Trash / 5 Viva La Hate, and I have a lot of it for this "music album". Yet another person who doesn't know anything about what can be accepted as music. Whoever put this on 1001's list was definitely lobotomized. Avoid at all costs, the only setting I can see myself listening to this is when I wanna invoke puking all over the place.

This album infuriated me. Rhyme scheme be damned, this dude just said random things in a Brit pop voice. I almost gave it a 2 at one point but I wouldn’t ever put this back on.

Oui Morrissey est mon souffre-douleur. L'autre fois, je n'avais pas partagé ce potin avec Nick Cave mais là c'est plus fort que moi: Nick Cave has said that he turned down Morrissey’s request to appear on a new song in 2024, claiming that the former Smiths frontman wanted him to sing “an unnecessarily provocative and slightly silly anti-woke screed he had written”. Mostly depressing, but what really topped the cake was the last song ending with a lever being pulled, releasing the guillotine down on poor Margaret. I'm not okay.

41/1089 second Morrissey album, and hopefully the last… he has a very obnoxious, self-important vibe and sound. And coming into these albums knowing his reputation hasn’t made it easier to withstand these for sure. The repeated percussive sound in Little Man, What Now is very annoying and overstimulating. He’s voice is the epitome of what i consider cringey, try-hard middle aged man music. Maybe it’s the over-pronounced style or “faux”-aloofness Bengali in Platforms is crazy… the gall… Maudlin street has a kinda nice instrumental part towards the end one saving grace being him asking when will the wicked witch die on the final track lmao 1 star (10/100) no faves and Bengali in Platforms is the definite least fave (but none are great imo)

Ugh that was a boring slog of an album. By time he was singing "When will you die?" I was thinking that sooner rather than later might be preferable as I pantomimed myself blowing my brains out onto the driver side window and then Imagining the cruise control taking my driverless car into the ditch and through a fence and out into a western South Dakota pasture.

Bengali in Platforms is about where the whole album lost the plot for me. I've always heard allegations about Morrissey, and I guess I see why. What do you even say about this album? If you ignore the lyricism, I guess the vocals are fine, but the tempo and music are so slow paced the whole album just drags. It made me think of the review for Spinal Taps Shark Sandwich.

Went into this with an open mind and can confirm I didn’t dislike it as much as I thought I would. If you took away his dreadful monotonous drone it might actually be ok.

Album #13 - 1/5 Honestly, I love a whiney little bitch boy. You're allowed to be loudly sad. I like the sound of the album enough (nothing special)... But reading through the other ratings in here, I've learned that Morrissey is a piece of shit! No racists for me. <3 (Actual music/album is probably a 2.5.)

For Viva Hate I'll literally just quote what I said for the last Morrissey album we had. Every song sounds basically the same form of dull monotonous crap from a complete wanker of a human. Never liked The Smiths or his style, this isn't for me at all. 1.

Ugh, Morrissey again. Like the Smiths, hate Morrissey, and this began his Marr-less record string. This one was especially Morrissey-y - whiny and pretentious with a lot of bitterness. Plus it gets the Morrissey penalty of -1 points.

I tried, i really did. This is my 3rd Morrissey album and i really hate the man, his voice, hit lyrics, his music and his politics. Im 300 albums in and ive genuinely listened to each one. After 2 tracks i realised that as much as i want to be disciplined in this process, there are better uses of my time than being tortured by this bigoted, self involved wanker.

I never liked the Smiths because I found them depressing, and felt that Morrissey was pretentious twat. Musically this album is OK, but Morrissey's whining vocals, which seem to be for a different album, ruin it for me, heaven knows how miserable I felt while listening to this album.

In my mind a worried mix between industrial, synth-pop, brit-pop and some singer-songwriter. I didn't now Morrisey, and as I see, I don't miss a thing.

Not a Morrissey fan

I was just thinking this morning about how much of a shitbag Morrissey is, imagine that. Yeah I don't like this in the slightest. The Smiths have some lyrical powerhouses, but Johnny Marr's songwriting prowess is always what I came for in the end, and without that, even the best Morrissey lines fall flat over this dull 80s soft rock. Also, Everyday is Like Sunday gives me retail flashbacks, so it's all in the gutter for me.

Morrissey needed Johnny Marr’s jangly guitar in the Smiths to balance out his morose and “woe is me” lyrics. Now, post-Smiths Morrissey is just mopey and pretending to be spoken word poetry about death and sadness. Granted, he might have been a major influence on 90s/early 2000s emo, but at least they had the good sense to have actual melody. If you ever meet a diehard Morrissey fan, run.

That’s a no for me dawg. 1 star. I couldn’t get through it. Just felt so whiny- I hear babies crying enough during the day now, don’t want it on my music too. Ouch, burn, sorry Morrissey.

1/5. I don't care on a good day about the Smiths, hard to feel anything listening to this. It's boring at the best of times. There are some catchy beats and the guitar work is impressive in some songs but I can't get the hype about Morrissey. I wish I related more but I don't. The last song is funny though, but that's all I can credit it.

This album marks the point at which he started to say the quiet part out loud - as was obvious to many when it was released, despite the efforts of his apologists to explain away its questionable aspects. Whatever he intended with its title, it reads today as a declaration of intent. Yeah yeah yeah, but shouldn't we distinguish between the artist and his work? Fortunately we can sidestep that thorny issue, because this album, Mozza's first without the benefit of Marr's guitar, amounts to no more than a couple of lukewarm singles and a wodge of nondescript filler.

Morrissey is one of those people I can't separate from the music. All I can think about when listening to him is how he sounds like a shitty version of The Cure mixed with Joy Division. The Smiths will always be what comes to mind when I hear the words "domestic abuser." Not that he's a domestic abuser, but if there were ever a soundtrack to domestic abuse, it would be The Smiths.
