Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Chaque album de Morrissey me semble un clone du précédent. J'ai l'impression d'écouter la même chanson en boucle. Ce n'est pas désagréable, mais ça m'ennuie un peu.
Twas okay. Something about this guy's voice bugs me so I couldn't make it through the whole thing. Not really my cup of tea.
Meh
Immediately forgettable.
Fácil de escuchar, aunque todas las canciones suenan prácticamente igual. Me gusta The Smiths, pero en solitario se me hace un poco aburrido
I didn't really like it, but I don't like the Smiths either, so it isn't very surprising.
Passable
I was going about my day and then I had to listen to a Morrissey album, heaven knows I'm miserable now
everyday is like sunday felt like a good song to be depressed to and i loved the strings in angel angel down we go together. i don't mind if you forget me was surprisingly boppy. overall though, peace and blessings ❤️ this emo phil collins vibe was not for me
naja?
Nah this music isn't for me at all. Nothing of this album appeals to me.
Meh.
ну.... не хуйня
I'd listen the hell out of an instrumental version of this, but Morris' lyrics and vocals make me wish I didn't understand English.
It’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be
Who knew that the hate he was talking about would turn out to be race hate
Me gustaba más la música que hacía con The Smiths. Album mediocre.
Like the opening and track 3. But otherwise not as impressive as The Smiths.
I got to give it to him, he really made a carrier of sounding totally bored and uninterested. Not unlistenable, just got bored by his monotone voice.
Ja dit was het, kon me niet overtuigen maar het was ook zeker niet slecht dikke 2.5
Meh this album has a few good points but then gets rather dull. Not sure we need this Morrissey album on the list, giveb3 smiths albums are on the list and 4 solo albums a few could be cut. This being one of them
Liked the two singles but found the rest of the album pretty tedious. The Smiths were way more listenable and as with his autobiography I wanted to bail really early on.
Man, I do not like Morrissey. I hadn’t really listened to him before this, but his voice is just so annoying. There wasn’t really a single song I really liked. They’re often made worse by his vocals. Not a fan at all, but not really terrible. Can’t really justify anything lower than 2 stars. 5/10 Top 1: 1. Angel Angel Down We Go Together
Morrissey and/or the Smith's just don't do it for me. Can't find much I enjoy about a significant portion of the music I've had to endure over the years. Maybe Frankly, Mr. Shankly but that because I love to hear "Shank." I am familiar with Suedehead and Every Day Is Sunday, but that because my Mindy and Luke enjoy a lot of this guy's music. The songs are ok and I guess if it brings them happiness, I'll refrain from ripping into his guy and just give this album a 2 and move on. One other song stood out to me. Margaret on the Guillotine, with the lines "When will you die" and "Please die" made my mind travel to a dark place and think of all those you would have eliminated right now, if I had the ability. I know it's dark but I smiled while I thought about it. Yea, I'm one sick dude, but ain't we all? And the album is called Viva Hate, so there ya go. 2
Viva MIDDDDDD: this was just so bleh. Icl I am a little bit sick of hearing the same old Morrissey shit. Each album sounds pretty much the same and I don't know how I feel about it. Like I don't hate the guitar or anything but it is so incredibly average and nothing special. Not that good at all.
Better then I expected, but nothing wowed me. Seems to be good to listen to when in a certain mood.
not terrible but pretty bland, got old and repetitive quickly. singing skill is there, but every song is entirely forgettable and they all sound the same
Every song is like Monday.
Meh. Nothing over the top spectacular. 2/5
Как смитс только хуйня 5/10
Morrissey needed Johnny Marr. The only song that gave me a strong Smith’s vibe was Suedehead and it seems like it’s his most played track by far as a result.
*yawn* more Morrissey.
Three songs in. Not hating it, but am kind of bored TBH. Okay, 3 more songs and I still don't care. This is the first album in a while where I really just can't wait for it to be over. Very few moments over the playtime that actually called out to me. Not a fan, but not outright awful. 2 / 5
Album started off enjoyable, but then got pretty exhausting to listen to the 80's jams over and over. If i were to show someone what 80s music sounds like this would be it. Nothing really stood out to me and it was difficult to have this on in the background
A bit boring. Some of the guitar and instrumental is good but also it's just 80s bullshit. Thank god cocaine was a thing back then. I did like Every Day is Like Sunday.
I find Morrissey unbearable to listen to. "Everyday is like Sunday" is a redeeming song, but I prefer almost anyone else singing it. It doesn't help that he has proven himself to be a fatuous twat.
The album is entirely unremarkable. I just listened to it and I cannot really recall anything good or bad about it. It is just there. I do not have a desire to listen to this album again. It is on par with the other Morrissey albums on this list.
Best Song: Margaret on the Guillotine. I just like the chorus of "When will you die?" Worst Song: Little Man, What Now? Whose idea was it to have a washing machine on in the background of the recording? Overall: An especially sleepy album from an already sleepy man. At times poetic, but mostly just emotionally overwrought.
When you have a song that's called "I Don't Mind If You Forget Me," that doesn't say much about the album, does it? It's just Morrissey being whiney Morrissey. At least it was short, and the band was semi-decent...
Meh - Suedehead and Everyday is like aside, feels like a pastiche of the Smiths...
Just not a fan
As a first-time listen, the singles and top-hits of this album (Everyday, Suedehead) really carry the water of this album. On a superficial level, this is not an album I would likely revisit. While I can appreciate some of the distinctive instrumentals of this album, this album helped me identify that the "mope rock" genre is not for me.
Fucking Morrissey, can’t believe I used to like his music. The last song slaps though. D
Can't stand Morrissey
Dull - dated
Was it still acceptable to like Mozza at this point? I lose track. Bengali in Platforms in a recruitment track for the Nazis, right? How the hell did he get away with this? The singles stand out. Suedehead floats from start to finish. It's close to the perfect Mozza track. Ditto for Every Day is Like Sunday. The rest of the album is still something of a climbdown from The Smiths - although they were well past their sell by date with Strangeways. Oh well. What a talent, what a waste.
If you were ever in doubt about whether Morrissey or Marr was the true genius in The Smiths. There are very few songs I love on Morrissey’s debut album, “Every Day Is Like Sunday” and “Angel Angel Down We Go Together”. The majority of the other songs I simply don’t care much about. But then there’s also absolute dog shit like “Little Man, What Now?” and “I Don’t Mind If You Forget Me”. Not a huge The Smiths fan; definitely not a Morrissey fan either.
Many Morrissey songs are now irrevocably tainted - Everyday is Like Sunday is not one of them. Suedehead and Maudlin Street are also very good. This isn't one of his albums that I actually listened to back then so even nostalgia can't come to the rescue, and songs like Bengali in Platforms - "life is hard enough when you belong here" - make me feel ick (I am so very sickened now?) I still like Vauxhall and I and rated that highly, but not this. Fair bit of late 80s production also here that jars with the Smiths in a bad way. A couple of songs have squalling, over the top guitar solos that feel horribly out of place, like someone scribbling in biro over a painting (Alsatian, Forget Me). The 2 classics - and even a song about decapitating Thatcher - aren't enough to redeem the album's many flaws as a whole.
It didn't keep my attention at all. I don't care for the Smiths and even less for Morrissey.
Not a bad album, shame he's such a shit. 2 stars.
80s pop. Kind of whiny
Except for the "Suedehead," which sounds like a Smiths song, this album does not deserve many more lines of commentary, especially considering Morrissey's personality.
Just don’t get him as an artist, odd song is ok but very whiny style really grates over a whole album
Morrissey takes whining to new heights. After leaving the Smiths, it was like the control rods cam out of the reactor and the proto-emo machine went into overdrive. This is the beginning of the whining, complaining, diva Morrissey we see today.
Morrissey is the lead singer from the Smiths, who had a solo career after the band broke up. His solo music is quite similar to the works of the Smiths, and is indie pop or kind of like early emo/goth rock. This is his first solo album. Morrissey's baritone, angst filled voice is very recognizable. His melancholic musical themes center around love, loss, divorce, depression, and teenage angst. I think Morrissey needs to cheer up a bit! Because of the dark and depressing moods created by the jangly guitars, and almost moaned lyrical delivery, it is very hard to digest this album all at once. It is a huge downer. Morrissey's lyrics are beautiful, but the odd way that he delivers them over weird time signatures is kind of jarring. Overall, not a bad album, but probably not one I will ever listen to again. I am not a fan of depressing music. Favourite songs: Everyday is Like Sunday, Angel Angel Down We Go Together, I Don't Mind if You Forget Me Least favourite songs: Dial-a-Cliche, Margaret on the Guillotine, Suedehead 2/5
Morriss-nej!
Varför!!!!!!!!!!!!! finns de så många trash morrissey album på listan och sen e smiths s/t inte med???????
i find this man so boring
This album is proof that Johnny Marr is the person that made The Smiths a great band.
too much of the same
racist.
Weird
Morrissey is fine. Doesnt evoke any emotions
paar gute songs, aber nicht so meins
Meh...Johnny made Moz
oh boy morrissey. 2 stars.
Bit dull.
what a cunt. love the smiths, hate morrissey.
very disenchanting, I like some of the songs, but its very mid.
I can safely say I'm not a big fan.
Kinda warbled love poetry, less melodic than the smiths stuff. Kinda liked some of the production. Incel vibe on some of the lyrics.
This is pretty meh. Very little is standing out and his voice is annoying. I did enjoy the sort of flamenco guitar at the end of Margaret on the Guillotine. I Don't Mind If You Forget Me was alright, but honestly, it's good that he doesn't mind because I probably will.
So I decided to listen to this album after all, including its most controversial song (now). Yes I think he clearly means it (possibly with some personal empathy, possibly with a resigned "realism", but with no hint of promoting the alternatives) when he says Bengali Oh, shelve your Western plans And understand That life is hard enough when you belong here. Yet at the time, the most controversial song was the dreamy acoustic-guitar-and-accordion "Margaret on the Guillotine"..."Kind people, do not shelter this dream, make it real". For this, he was investigated as a potential terrorist and had his house raided by the police. Does the one balance out the other, in some scale of morality or politics? No, but there is probably a conversation to be had about how "interpretable" songs like these are meant to be, or should be. Meanwhile, there are some interesting insights into the "older and wiser" Morrissey across this album, including rejection of the maudlin wallowing of earlier years (can't find the lyric now, but it's reflected in the music too). Having said all that, the music itself isn't to my taste, so no reason to come back to this album.
Beetje cheesy album. Niet echt mijn ding.
In this album, Morrissey asks the brave question "What if the Smiths were boring?" Nice one Steven, you fucking dickhead. The singles are genuinely good ("Everyday is Like Sunday" and "Suedehead") but this is, without a doubt, not an essential album. Just listen to the Smiths - all four albums are miles better than this. 9 hours later update: The Queen is dead, holy shit. On the day I get a Morrissey album. This is your fault, 1001 Albums Generator.
Disliked. Can't put my finger on why exactly, but it was consistent across the album. Not my style in any way, I guess.
This one wasn't it for me. Some good moments in there, Suedehead was pretty good I guess. 2/5
Enough already with the Morrissey
2.5 stars. Not a big fan of his voice on this, a little boring, no standout tracks. Liked the piano on "Late Night, Maudlin Street"
Very moody and I felt like it wasn’t very cohesive. Not really my cup of tea.
Vocals in some songs sound like the weird catholic song prayer
Painfully boring, I can't help but hear elevator music if you were to remove the vocals. He narrates like he is reading from a book and the flow of his story telling isn't smooth. I get this impression he has to keep adding details to convince the listener to be emotional because he hasn't yet convinced himself. I appreciate storytelling in music but this is poorly executed. The only thing I enjoyed about this album was when I heard certain parts that influenced modern artists.
Sounds like a lot of other British pop rock out of that time, nothing really caught my attention or made me want to relisten.
Meh. Isn’t he a fascist now, anyway?
He should have stuck with Johnny Marr
It's because of days like this that my streaming service thinks I actually like Morrissey's whiny voice.
I have come to learn that I am not a Morrisey fan. I’ve listened to three albums, have not found a single song that has drawn me in
I'm not a fan of Morrisey or the Smiths, but if I was I probably would enjoy this as it sounds very much like everything else he and they have done.
First 2 songs Felt overproduced, next 2 better, then got a bit too much Morrissey whining. His voice is difficult for an entire album. Unfortunately, I see there are more to come
never been a huge fan of the smiths and this solo album didn't garner any more goodwill for Morrissey from me. just as boring as most smiths music
Love Morrissey's voice but... this is pretty meh compared to any Smiths record. 5/10
Wow! That first song was so great! The guitar! So much promise! And so lackluster after that! The title! Hilarious he has a song named Maudlin Street, the second song in a row where he uses the phrase “I truly Love you”. (details may not be exactly right, I couldn’t go back and listen to it again) I agree with the Spin review: "without guitarist/composer Johnny Marr at his side, the mahatma of mope rock seems to have gone out for a nice depressing stroll without noticing that he didn't have a stitch to wear".
Morrissey without The Smiths, and it shows. Overwordy, underclever, not enough balance of singing and band. Much filler and idea (even lyric) rehash. Still good, but the cracks are showing.
Eh
Wie schon bei den Smiths Alben sehe ich gern funkelnde Pop Perlen hervorblitzen aus dem Dickicht eines mir recht egalen Rests. 1.7
Relativ langweilig.
Eh. I don't hate Morrissey, just not really my thing.
The singles carry at least one of these stars. Possibly two.
It's Morrissey, so it's good…I guess. this week has been tough picks for me and I don't have the headspace for a Morrissey album. But thanks for the reminder that Maggy is dead!
Just not The Smiths. A little more whiny vocally and less rhythmic and lyrical depth. Kind of wears on you. Suedehead, Late night
Not a big morrissey fan so it alittle better then expected
It's hard not to let thinking Morrisey is an idiot affect the rating here, but in the end I'm not sure what makes this so great it's like most other people's first solo albums after they left a group, a bit disappointing.
Eh. Not much to say. Boring. Couple decent songs.
Viva La Bam was better
Nothing stuck with me, but it wasn’t offensive. Unlike Morrissey
Jesus, imagine the amount of self-awareness you have to lack to write the non-conformist "Dial-a-Cliché" and then be so stereotypically British that you have one song about wanting Thatcher dead and another about how you don't want foreigners in your country. There's a lot of sad, horny British (in that order) wailing on this record, but it lacks Soul Mining's compelling sound or the bombastic energy that kept a handful of a-ha songs on my phone. Key Tracks: Alsatian Cousin, Little Man, What Now?, Break Up the Family
26th July 2021 Listened on my phone in the morning while getting ready for work. Finished on the Tuesday after choosing to read on the way to bowling with Andy. As Morrissey would say "I don't mind". I enjoy the down to earth, everyman that Morrissey can be but I'm not hugely sold. Never been a Smith's fan either.
Album is quite poor, but it has two best Morrissey's songs (Everyday is like Monday, Suedehead)
mopey bs. I do have a soft spot for Everyday Is Like Sunday, and there was a surprise guitar solo that i enjoyed.
It wasn't the worst thing i've heard
It's just a collection of subpar love songs. The vocals have a small range of 4 or 5 notes, the lyrics have next to no depth and always talk about someone else, and the background is the best part of every song. If you have to listen to this, just listen to the instruments because that's how you'll get the most out of this album. Favorite track: Everyday Is Like Sunday
Honestly just didn't enjoy it. I don't really know why.
An album filled with love and breakup songs. Personally not for me but a good album
The Smiths and Morrissey were part of the soundtrack of my college years. I didn't actively dislike their music; I just found them a bit dull for my ear. I'm also not a big fan of Steve Morrissey's voice. Like his music overall, it's not grating or terrible or anything like that. It's just not a voice I enjoy hearing. The guitar work on "Margaret on the Guillotine" is really nice (Vini Reilly played it), and on this one song Morrissey's voice sounds a little like Frank Orrall of Poi Dog Pondering (the song has an overall Poi Dog feel, too), and I love Frank Orrall's voice and Poi Dog Pondering's music, so I do like that song. Anyway, I know the music of The Smiths and Morrissey is an important part of the 80s -- not sure what the correct rock subgenre is, maybe "alternative," whatever that might mean -- scene, so I get why this on the list.
2.75,some decent songs. Easy to dislike this guy. Might appreciate more with more listens
Heel veel drama in een album gegoten. Ik vind het nogal zagerig en wat saai soms
AER: I didn't like this album. Morrissey: "Rejection is one thing, but rejection from a fool is cruel" C-
Hated this from the first note, dated bass line/guitar effect. The choices for instrumentation on the first half of this movie are questionable, e.g. synth strings on “Everyday is Sunday” are awful. Lots of shitty world music vibes there sounding dated as fuck. The strong vocal presence and lyrics of Morissey wasn’t enough to save it. I was ready to vote this a 1, but then heard the latter half of the album (4 songs) toned down songs were the only bright spot, “break up the family” “treat me like a human being” the songs that stick to the 80s rubric work. It’s like he was trying to cast off the 80s and join the 90s. The 90s was a mistake. Yuck. 2 stars.
Morrisseyn lauluäänestä huokuu karismaattisuus. Tuntuu, että biisejä kantaa pelkästään hyvin paljon laulu, vaikka peruskivoja melodioita levyltä löytyykin. Eniten fiilistelin hittibiiseistä Everyday Is Like Sundayta. Kokonaisuutena ei huono levy, mutta jätti jälkeensä kuitenkin vain hyvin haaleat fiilikset. Ehkä tämäkin levy tarvitsisi vain kuuntelukertoja
as i skipped through the tracks of Viva Hate I could not help but harken back to my days as a youth in Schlotzenberg. MY family and our adopted immigrant penguins would frolic in the summer sun as we played games of hide the cow tongue and shlemmel your sister suitor. One time Vincent could not completely hide the cow tongue and we mocked him to the point he swallowed the tongue. Such fond memories of those times. MOrrissey brought me back to those simpler times when my only worry was did I have enough sawdust to satisfy the local chieftain. Those really were simpler times back then. I give this album five schnazelbangers
Not wholly unenjoyable, but a little repetitive and there were a couple of songs that were as little cringey. I'll probably not come back to it any time soon. I'll stick with the Smiths
Emoji Monday: 😒
Not my musical taste
No likey
Not really for me.
Morrissey is extremely hit and miss for me. An entire album of his is a tough finish. It's just okay.
Not much without the expert melodies of the smiths
Not my jam
Lots of hit or miss, not my favorite. Shoulda stuck with his band
Послушал 4 трека. Он такой скучный
Liked the music, but singer not tp my taste.
Not my taste at all.
Yeesh. What an awful album.
Musically a good album...if you take away Morrissey himself. Still ruthless..."Morrissey is selling redesigned merchandise on his official UK online store that replaces "The Smiths" with his own name on classic album artwork." (Taken from today's headline 6/30/26)
Somehow for the 6th time, FFUUUUCK MORRISSEY
Awful in my opinion. Did not enjoy
This racist man. 0/5
will listen but i despise Morrisey
Fart
album #77 morrissey proving that there is actually no limit to how far up your own arse you can be. i viva hate you. p.s. this is, from a purely musical perspective, a load of steaming shite. ꩜ average track rating: 1/5 ꩜ album rating: ⯪☆☆☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,012 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 36 ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 15 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 62
Morrissey is horrible.
Fuck you Morrissey, I’m not listening to this.
Racist scum
I gave one track a go. Nah.
Another Morrisey that I wont listen to. Fuck this guy.
Barf
Shite as usual
Whiny and depressing seems a fair summary. I would single out ‘Treat me like a human being’ as a specific low, but it’s probably unfair given the rest is similarly dire. I did however enjoy ‘Suedehead’, but one song does not an album make
I did not enjoy this. I have an almost visceral reaction to his voice, the song which differentiated migrants from people who "belong" in the UK really annoyed me, and I think, particularly in current times, the guy's an absolute tosser. At least on The Smiths albums you get Johnny Marr. 1/5
On a plane well outside of reality, in a place where nothing much matters because a magic circle has been so firmly drawn around you to protect you from evil, you can finally say what you want to say and be who you really are. When you're there who or what do you imagine yourself to be? When you envision your greatest expression of self, is it black and white? Are things cast in such stark contrast that you can only see in binaries? Now imagine your success and fame has drawn that circle for you but in this world, how does it play out now? It seems this record's cover and title says it all for you these days. Everything's just black and white, us versus them, in or out. The longer any of us live the more tragedy we see; so it's fair to say that it's only a minor disappointment in life for me to know that when you entered the magic circle you found only hate and ressentiment in your heart. Maybe you weren't surprised, and maybe we shouldn't have been either. It's the classic lesson to not idolize another that plays out again and again.
Another confirmation that Johnny Marr is a saint for putting up with the Moz. This album isn’t great, it’s basically all the whining and none of the great music from the Smiths. #TeamMarrforever
Really didn't land at all for me. All the worst parts about Morrissey's music - theatrical maudlin whimpering. Really boring instrumentation. No atmosphere whatsoever.
Racist cunt with a shit voice.
This generator is really great at expanding your horizons. I knew almost nothing about Morrissey before - but thanks to the list, I have now found a whole new artist to hate ! This was insufferable. Having to listen to three more albums by this whiny manchild makes my skin crawl. 1/10
Well let's get the obvious out of the way. He is UK Kanye. Not Kid Rock, Kid Britpop. And miserable? Sad, morose, self loathing. Is there any reason why people would want to listen to this level of depressing? Here in Australia The Smiths and Morrisey didn't make a huge impression as far as I know. "How Soon is Now?" and "This Charming Man" were hipster fare, buy they were essentially niche. Too British, too introvert. Too miserable. Sure, the playing on this is impeccable. The musicians are top notch and giving it plenty. But the songs - the lyrics - are the sort of thing a self absorbed 16 year old might produce in order to come third at his school's Slam Poetry Competition. They thud out of the speakers like lead and just sit there, with a level off triteness and inconsequentiality that's extraordinary. Just appallingly badly written. And then there's Bengali in Platforms. As someone said in another review: "Fuck that Racist Shit!" It was bad anyway and the racism is the curdled cream on top.
Skipped all of it, depressing, soppy
Wow! Another plain brit pop album! This list has so few of these!
Fuck this whiner.
I have no idea why this is in the list - it was nothing special at all, and I really didn't enjoy it.
Literally nothing is worse than the thought that I currently have 3 more of his albums to listen to for this project. And one more The Smiths album
Sun is shining. Im about to have a couple of days of for eastern. I feel terrific. No way in hell im going to ruin that by listening to Morrisey.
Boy does he know how people feel about him. In his own language 'What A Fucking Wanker'. I fear that if I listen to more Morrissey it will start to tinge how I feel about the Smiths. Honestly did not like them much to begin with but Shoplifters Of The World Unite is such a great fucking song it will never fall from grace in my eyes because of Morrissey. Honestly I'm halfway through and it's not as bad as I was thinking but it's amazing how long his career has lasted. How long can you keep putting out albums that are just the same thing over and over again. The only song worth a shit on here is "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and "Margaret On The Guillotine" which is only there because Margaret Thatcher is worse than Morrissey. As I started this with I'm sure that Morrissey will outlive us all because he lives on how much hate people have for him so Viva Hate.
😧 again !?
First listen
Boring AF, I couldn't even finish
For the people in the back, who haven't heard me before...this pretentious full of himself @sshole is OVERRATED! Every album is the same, whiny voice, obvious overdone 80's emo music, with really basic lyrics. This could have been any random wanna be 80's band that didn't make it, but somehow this guy must have known the right person and they backed him and suddenly he became a thing. Albums like this make me truly believe its not always about talent but having the right media people, because he isn't special, he is mediocre at best and somehow has gone down as one of the greatest artists ever. This album's title really encompasses how I feel about this album and Morrisey overall. I am also starting to lose hope in this project....why is this racist, sexist, jerk on this list 7 times! One would have been semi-justified and MORE than enough of him.
Nope. No more Morrissey for me. He’s firmly in Bob Dylan territory now. This is just getting ridiculous. If it’s good or not, I just don’t care. This list is clearly from some boomer who only listens to corporate approved Rock or some pretentious music critic getting paid by corporate music. At this point, it’s almost like they’re daring you to tap out of this project.
Racista.
It’s pretty cool listening to this because of how much it sounds like a lot of the indie and alt stuff that’s coming out now. For example, "Late Night, Maudlin Street" sounds a lot like "In My Mind" by Amanda Palmer. Unfortunately Morrissey also sounds like shitty Bowie.
I got Eric Clapton earlier this week, and today Morrissey. Looks like it’s racist week on the ol’ 1001 Albums listening project. Viva Hate has some of Morrissey’s best solo output, particularly with “Suedehead”, but it also has the explicitly anti-immigrant “Bengali in Platforms”. With The Smiths he wrote some self-indulgent, sometimes downright terrible lyrics, but at his best he could be witty, even occasionally with some levity. That’s all gone here, replaced by performative moroseness and a sense of grievance. What an odious gasbag.
Bad album by a bad human.
more whiny men, i guess? where's the spunk. where's the creativity. get a grip Would I listen again: No Deserves to be on this list: Two songs have over 100 million streams and I couldn't tell you why. No. 1.3 (I wrote this review unaware of how much Jack Morrisey sucks on his own. My hate is now warranted)
Please let this be the last album by Morrissey that I have to listen to.
no
Dnf
Every whiny song sounded the same. Angel Angel We Go Down Together stood out. Just need a different voice singing it. 1/5
No.
Not for me.
Anything f*cking Morrissey album?!
This is the fourth (and hopefully final) Morrissey album I’ve got on this list. I’ve been patient, but I think now is the time to give this asshole the 1 star he deserves. While I’ve made an effort to separate the art from the artist, “Bengali in Platforms” and its not-so-subtle racism was the last straw for me. Even ignoring that song leaves nothing but a mediocre, down-tempo Smiths album where he meanders verse to verse without a hook or memorable line in sight. He somehow makes a song about killing Margaret Thatcher boring. Fuck this mopey, spinach eating prick.
meu deus que coisa horrorosa, pessima mix, pessimo tudo, parece uma demo de 40 minutos
he’s just so depressing! much more palatable with johnny marr’s
Shit
What a boring cunt
3 for being alright. -2 for being a Morrissey album.
Trash / 5 Viva La Hate, and I have a lot of it for this "music album". Yet another person who doesn't know anything about what can be accepted as music. Whoever put this on 1001's list was definitely lobotomized. Avoid at all costs, the only setting I can see myself listening to this is when I wanna invoke puking all over the place.
1/5
I could tolerate it. 1
This would have been better as an instrumental album.
This album infuriated me. Rhyme scheme be damned, this dude just said random things in a Brit pop voice. I almost gave it a 2 at one point but I wouldn’t ever put this back on.
Oui Morrissey est mon souffre-douleur. L'autre fois, je n'avais pas partagé ce potin avec Nick Cave mais là c'est plus fort que moi: Nick Cave has said that he turned down Morrissey’s request to appear on a new song in 2024, claiming that the former Smiths frontman wanted him to sing “an unnecessarily provocative and slightly silly anti-woke screed he had written”. C'est China qui m'informe sur les potins. (À noter que j'attends Michael Jackson de pied ferme; un fasciste et un pédophile)
Mostly depressing, but what really topped the cake was the last song ending with a lever being pulled, releasing the guillotine down on poor Margaret. I'm not okay.
viva: hated. (⌐■_■)
41/1089 second Morrissey album, and hopefully the last… he has a very obnoxious, self-important vibe and sound. And coming into these albums knowing his reputation hasn’t made it easier to withstand these for sure. The repeated percussive sound in Little Man, What Now is very annoying and overstimulating. He’s voice is the epitome of what i consider cringey, try-hard middle aged man music. Maybe it’s the over-pronounced style or “faux”-aloofness Bengali in Platforms is crazy… the gall… Maudlin street has a kinda nice instrumental part towards the end one saving grace being him asking when will the wicked witch die on the final track lmao 1 star (10/100) no faves and Bengali in Platforms is the definite least fave (but none are great imo)
more generic 80's . Who likes this stuff?
It was getting a 3, but these lyrics earned a 1.
Pretty mid. Outside of a couple decent songs it just feels like pure filler. This sucks. Lots of wailing, not much substance.
actually miserable
Jedinica iz principa. // Bila bi jedinica logično.
His vocals suck. Literally anyone else singing would make this at least a bit bearable. "Morrissey sucks, but he's soo talented!" I absolutely don't get the talented part...
I so can;'t be bothered listening to this.
Yeah, nice try, but I'm not committed enough to this list to put myself through listening to Morrissey. It's a guaranteed 1 star anyway (but only because zero isn't an option).
Utter fucking nonsense. What is this doing on here. I want the last 40 mins of my life back.
Don't have to listen to that, I know I'll hate it
Better than most of its ilk
Ugh that was a boring slog of an album. By time he was singing "When will you die?" I was thinking that sooner rather than later might be preferable as I pantomimed myself blowing my brains out onto the driver side window and then Imagining the cruise control taking my driverless car into the ditch and through a fence and out into a western South Dakota pasture.
Another whiny and pretentious man.
Tedious and charmless, just like Morrissey himself. This album is like “what if a bad Smiths cover band didn’t know any Smiths songs?”
I'm so sick and tired of Morrissey. Probably a 2 star, but its getting an aggregated 1 star. Good riddance!
I just can't with this guy. Did not listen.
Bengali in Platforms is about where the whole album lost the plot for me. I've always heard allegations about Morrissey, and I guess I see why. What do you even say about this album? If you ignore the lyricism, I guess the vocals are fine, but the tempo and music are so slow paced the whole album just drags. It made me think of the review for Spinal Taps Shark Sandwich.
Went into this with an open mind and can confirm I didn’t dislike it as much as I thought I would. If you took away his dreadful monotonous drone it might actually be ok.
May be fine. Not my style.
Morrissey sucks
Jao, ne mogu. 1/5, 2/10
Two days in a row of controversial artists. Unlike Ryan Adams, I've always struggled to like Morrissey so I have no problem giving this one star.
you can stick your gladioli up your...
Nah. No thank you. Another example of an individual’s actions overshadowing their art.
Meh
Album #13 - 1/5 Honestly, I love a whiney little bitch boy. You're allowed to be loudly sad. I like the sound of the album enough (nothing special)... But reading through the other ratings in here, I've learned that Morrissey is a piece of shit! No racists for me. <3 (Actual music/album is probably a 2.5.)
For Viva Hate I'll literally just quote what I said for the last Morrissey album we had. Every song sounds basically the same form of dull monotonous crap from a complete wanker of a human. Never liked The Smiths or his style, this isn't for me at all. 1.
Ugh, Morrissey again. Like the Smiths, hate Morrissey, and this began his Marr-less record string. This one was especially Morrissey-y - whiny and pretentious with a lot of bitterness. Plus it gets the Morrissey penalty of -1 points.
Not my style
You know what. I can't even be bothered.
Morrissey is a twat. I'm boycotting this album, because Morrissey is a twat. Now don't get me wrong, I like the Smiths, they had some belters, I've got a lot of time for them, but Morrissey was a twat then too. He had a couple of big hits off this effort, which are fine and do a good job, but at the end of the day, when all is said and done, Morrissey is a twat. I would give it three stars, but I'm knocking two of them off because, well, you know, Morrissey is a twat. #MorrisseyIsATwat
Absolute self indulgent rubbish. No stars if possible.
Morrissey can eat my dick. Too bad he’s a vegan and won’t shut the fuck up about it.
Eat a bag of dicks Morrissey
Meh
Morrissey is a pompous whining loser.
It's not clear to me exactly why I hate Morrissey, but it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. Ugh, just fucking stop.
fuck you morrissey
stop
I tried, i really did. This is my 3rd Morrissey album and i really hate the man, his voice, hit lyrics, his music and his politics. Im 300 albums in and ive genuinely listened to each one. After 2 tracks i realised that as much as i want to be disciplined in this process, there are better uses of my time than being tortured by this bigoted, self involved wanker.
Mais uma chance para reafirmar que o cara é chato pra caramba. Nem vou me desculpar.
Quite a fitting name for this album as I hate this piece of shit and his singing voice like nothing else
I never liked the Smiths because I found them depressing, and felt that Morrissey was pretentious twat. Musically this album is OK, but Morrissey's whining vocals, which seem to be for a different album, ruin it for me, heaven knows how miserable I felt while listening to this album.
In my mind a worried mix between industrial, synth-pop, brit-pop and some singer-songwriter. I didn't now Morrisey, and as I see, I don't miss a thing.
Just dogshit
I wanted to slit my wrists but I got too depressed to move.
Spare me.
Un pop-soul meloso y espantoso. Careta y superficial,
Racist
Morrissey is a butt
Was not a fan of the Smiths and i think i see why
If I could give a zero
What a wanker
*weary sigh* I only had The Smiths 2 days ago and had to reference what a total helmet Morrissey turned out to be. So more of the same but without Marr, Rourke and Joyce isn't what I needed right now. Still enjoyed Suedehead, but the rest? Shrug.
pass
Seichtester alternative Rock.
Not a Morrissey fan
I was just thinking this morning about how much of a shitbag Morrissey is, imagine that. Yeah I don't like this in the slightest. The Smiths have some lyrical powerhouses, but Johnny Marr's songwriting prowess is always what I came for in the end, and without that, even the best Morrissey lines fall flat over this dull 80s soft rock. Also, Everyday is Like Sunday gives me retail flashbacks, so it's all in the gutter for me.
Morrissey needed Johnny Marr’s jangly guitar in the Smiths to balance out his morose and “woe is me” lyrics. Now, post-Smiths Morrissey is just mopey and pretending to be spoken word poetry about death and sadness. Granted, he might have been a major influence on 90s/early 2000s emo, but at least they had the good sense to have actual melody. If you ever meet a diehard Morrissey fan, run.
That’s a no for me dawg. 1 star. I couldn’t get through it. Just felt so whiny- I hear babies crying enough during the day now, don’t want it on my music too. Ouch, burn, sorry Morrissey.
Bash the fash
I could not get past the monotonous voice and melancholy lyrics on this album.
1.5
Morrisey is a cunt, his voice appears way too much on this list
1/5. I don't care on a good day about the Smiths, hard to feel anything listening to this. It's boring at the best of times. There are some catchy beats and the guitar work is impressive in some songs but I can't get the hype about Morrissey. I wish I related more but I don't. The last song is funny though, but that's all I can credit it.
Meh
Meh
Can’t get into this. Just like the Smiths, it does not go well through my ears. Too soft, just not feeling it.
ugh. Its so melodramatic and emo, and he is SUCH an asshole. 1/5
NAHHHHH THIS AIN't it......
Not my style at all to say the least. 80s punk vocals mixed with cheesy radio lyrics. No Thanks.
Too much morrissey, couldn’t enjoy
Un tanto anodino. Muchas canciones iguales. No tiene mala voz, pero lo veo demasiado insulso
Never liked his solo stuff as much as the Smiths
Ouf J'aime pas le personnage. Trop à droite pour moi, j'ai juste entendu parler de lui pour ses positions politiques et ses annulations dernière minute... J'ai écouté la première face pis c'est pas bon
Mauvais. Il chante de façon désintéressée. Les chansons ne vont nul part.
cant do it fuck morrissey
You know, this probably isn't bad but... Morrissey is just such a cunt that it's pretty impossible to go into this with an open mind. Fuck off, Morrissey
Morrissey's preoccupation with a halcyon Britain largely of his own imagining was mildly disquieting even in the heyday of the Smiths - hinting at a social and political alignment at odds with that of many of his admirers. This album marks the point at which he started to say the quiet part out loud - as was obvious to many when it was released, despite the efforts of his apologists to explain away its questionable aspects. Whatever he intended with its title, it reads today as a declaration of intent. Yeah yeah yeah, but shouldn't we distinguish between the artist and his work? Fortunately we can sidestep that thorny issue, because this album, Mozza's first without the benefit of Marr's guitar, amounts to no more than a couple of lukewarm singles and a wodge of nondescript filler.
MEH
Ugh again?
Morrissey is an insufferable talentless cunt
Morrissey is one of those people I can't separate from the music. All I can think about when listening to him is how he sounds like a shitty version of The Cure mixed with Joy Division. The Smiths will always be what comes to mind when I hear the words "domestic abuser." Not that he's a domestic abuser, but if there were ever a soundtrack to domestic abuse, it would be The Smiths.
nope
don't like
I'm surprised Morrissey managed to keep his career afloat after recording this first solo album.
Meh, George Michael was better
Was let down after I realized Morrisey was not Van Morrison. I like one of those two and it isn't Morrisey.
Bad bad
