Reviews (page 3 of 14)
My favourite Zeppelin record
Favorite Track: Whole Lotta Love
Better than their first- a great step on the road from bluesmen to rock deities.
The songs transport me into another world. Rey easy to lose one’s self into the album. A lot softer than I had originally thought Led Zeppelin to be. Very pleasantly surprised. Would consider owning this record.
A Classic!!!!!
Banger after banger. Cover to cover classic.
I read up on the cover design bc what else is to be said about this album besides that it is a magnificent nuclear-powered riff machine? "Ramble On" sounds like two of the best songs ever being played at the same time to make a Voltron of rock. One could make the best beat tape ever with just samples form "Moby Dick." From: https://www.tumblr.com/girlofthemoon75/185684110716/led-zeppelin-cover-artwork-part-2 Designer David Juniper says the flight crew was adapted from a shot of the Red Baron (removed) and his Flying Circus, airbrushed with beards and to include the band, Miles Davis and Mary Woronov. I'm betting that's Lemmy up top.
Great album. Favourite tracks were Ramble on and Mody Dick
Not a lot to say about this album. Defined music for a generation.
Hell yeah brother.
Love this one.
Surprised by how much I enjoyed it. A lot more funky than I was expecting
Really nice album, perfect length at 40 mins.. I kept going back and forth with my rating but ‘Ramble On’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ are really great songs so 5/5 today(also check out Rick Beato’s dissections on YouTube)
Super Dope
Brilliant. More a low 5, it wouldn't be a 10/10 but it is closer to a 5/5 than to a 4/5
The archetype of blues/metal! Party on Garth!
Absolute classic - would have been awesome to see live. Whole Lotta Love has such an epic guitar riff.
A great album. Perfectly crafted and yet it all comes across as very natural. It’s the little things that are somehow spectacular. Every drum beat, chord and word spoken feels like the cog of a perfectly functioning machine full of industrious energy. You could easily draw a parallel with a piece of classical music where the composer has painstakingly brought together a plethora of instruments - despite this being far simpler it’s a similar level of genius. Plenty of fun riffs to enjoy and the drums are a pleasure. Some of the solo instrumental sections maybe go on a bit long, but fine, nothing is perfect. But this is truly excellent.
A firm favorite of mine. It's a perfect assembly of musical talent and vocals. Legendary status for me and while I sadly have not seen the band live watching Boot Led Zep was amongst the best live musical experiences of my life too. I love the raw nature of the sound but they can also be subtle, or wander into interesting solos or even provide a church like atmosphere. Their rolling sound creates some kind of musical inertia as constantly draws your attention. Love it all.
Great album and, of course, a classic. Its that great rock sound that still remains true to its blues roots. Then the iconic vocals that cut through the meaty guitars: *Chefs kiss* An initially overlooked element of Led Zeppelin is the sophistication of the rhythms. I'm sure its been known by better students of music than me, but the drums are often slightly out of phase from the rhythm guitar and vocals and it gives a sense of urgency, like the music is tumbling out of the record. There are a couple of experimental moments that dip the vibes slightly here and there, which is my only criticism. But given it's context, age, and the fact they were breaking new ground, all is forgiven in this excellent album.
Fantastic record! I'll give it a 5 mainly because of John Bonham and Jimmy Page. I loved them on this. The riffs are amazing and the drums are freakin' A+. Starting a record with Whole Lotta Love in '69? You know it's gonna be great.
Zeppelin rocks.
Great album
Perfection.
Goat album. They really find their sound with this one. This album takes it up another level. Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heart Breaker, Ramble On. This album doesn’t miss. It’s hard to choose your favorite Zeppelin album but this is close to peak zeppelin for me.
I haven't thought of Led Zeppelin for ages. The last time I listened to this album, I was still in high school and I used to love hard rock back then. LZ II surely is not my favorite Led Zep album but still, I'm a bit surprised that I still like this despite all these years and my being tired about hard rock. A masterpiece a timeless masterpiece. Don't know how to evaluate an album like this...5/5?
I grew up on Zeppelin but had not listened to this album in a long time. I don't know if this is their peak, but if it isn't it is pretty damn close. I was not alive when the band was together but they were a staple of rock radio and one of my Dad's favorites. An excellent.album.by an excellemt.band.
Not going to think too hard about this one or add anything that hasn’t already been written about it. Take my 5 stars. I will add for the community that Becoming Led Zeppelin is a must-watch documentary for anyone interested. Play it loud!
One of my most listened to albums proffered thus far. A complete classic start to finish.
Top 10 of all time for me.
Obviously incredible, timeless, seminal, everything
i do really like it, even though it's heavier rock than i usually like very varied, i think that's what sets it apart
Wow. perfect
Tout à fait légendaire.
5 mega estrelas
Fantastic from start to finish, absolute classic. Favourite tracks: Heartbreaker, Ramble On & Moby Dick.
Nothing to add about this album, which has not been said before.
Clássico incontornável. Um dos meus álbuns favoritos.
I feel like I haven't met a Led Zeppelin fan that wasn't at somewhat annoying about it, but it's clear they tapped into something really groovy.
Turn it up...this album was made for that. So...TURN IT UP TO ELEVEN M'fers! 5 fricking stars.
No sophomore slump in sight. Classic.
Just an all time banger. No skips. Well maybe skip Moby Dick. But it's insane how good this record is
Strong opening, I like what is and never should be and how slow and pensive it is. I’ve always been a zepp fan, but I’ve never really sat through the old albums and just listened to greatest hits. Fake fan I guess, but colour me a real fan now. It's also quick and not overbloated. Quick and gets to the pointed. There's a reason why Jack Black calls them the GOAT
This is EXACTLY what a great rock album should sound like. Every single song contributing to a hard-core, feel-it-in-your-bones experience that whisks you away to a rocker's paradise. It includes some all-time classics, including one of Zeppelin's best, the ultimate 'Living Loving Maid', and there's somehow no filler. 'Heartbreaker' was an excellent discovery. Zero complaints, Zeppelin. Bravo. 👏
Maybe my second favourite of the 4 self titled albums
This is the record where the band stops hinting at greatness and just lays it out—track by track, member by member. It’s engineered almost like a showcase reel: Bonham’s drum groove on “Whole Lotta Love” and the “Moby Dick” solo, Page’s riffs and production quirks, Jones’ low-end architecture that quietly dictates the entire record’s swing, and Plant stepping fully into the swaggering frontman role. What makes it endure is how effortlessly it welds blues, proto-metal, psychedelia, and that signature Zeppelin heaviness into something that feels inevitable in retrospect. A chunk of the modern rock/metal vocabulary essentially takes root here. Several tracks aren’t just classics—they’re foundational. Easy 5/5.
This is the sound track of my youth. Not because I was alive when it came out, but because my dad loved rock and roll from the 60s. I love how the guitars just sing! I had a 6 month period in my 20s where I listened to Led Zeppelin exclusively- it was awesome!
An all time classic, so good
Absolutely fantastic. Every song is a classic
How could I rate this any lower? Plant's vocals are delivered incredibly and they're supported by some insane guitar and bass lines. Even Moby Dick, the instrumental track, has a legendary riff that many classic rock enjoyers will recognize even if they don't know the song. I'm gonna stop before I glaze this album so hard I glaze all over myself.
A stone cold classic Rock Album!!
Another perfectly timed banger for me in my time of need.
What can I say, this album freaking ruled. This album is pure Led Zeppelin with some of their greatest songs one after another. I very much enjoyed this album listen and I look forward to listening to more albums by them. There is a reason why they are one of the best rock bands of all time!
Just a great album
I mean, it's Zeppelin 2. There's no standout track when it's wall to wall bangers. Though the riffs in Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker, and that goddamn bassline in Ramble On. It's damn near perfect.
Honestly: every track hits, and I’m still a little in awe of it. Love it!
Yeah this slaps.
Now this is an album. Start it off on an iconic guitar riff, pack this sucker with hit after hit after hit, and have absolute masters of the craft just make some music. I might be biased, I love Zeppelin, but there is not a single skippable song on this thing. Just did a cursory search, only their second album, and released in the same year as their first?? WHAT?? It's hard to come across such immense talent in a group and folks were spoiled in the 60s and 70s. Doesn't beat this
10/10 A great album - such a high level of quality throughout.
One of the best albums ever. So different so unpredictable. Pure music energy filled with different genres. Beautiful
One of the easiest 5 stars given.
Led Zeppelin had a really difficult task of following up on their debut album and they accomplished that easily with this album. There really isn't a song on this album that isn't at least a 4/5 and most of them are easily 5/5. Favorites: Whole Lotta Love (duh) What Is And What Should Never Be The Lemon Song Ramble On (classic Zep LOTR references)
Solid. Lots of hits.
Good
Que decir de este clásico. Pues nada. A disfrutarlo. Me ha sorprendido mucho What Is and What Should Never Be con un punto psicodelico que desconocia en ellos. Thank you también.
great
What can be said about this album that hasn't been said? Well, not so much, so, then on a personal note, this album got me rocking for the last 40 years, Solid 5/5.
1-4 and physical graffiti are all 5 star albums.
Quintessential rock album. No skips!
Fui escutar pela primeira vez em mais de 10 anos já pronto pra não gostar; naquela má vontade de "música de adolescente rockeiro fedido". Infelizmente é bom pra caralho.
llllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove
This is pretty brilliant. I always think led zeppelin are generally over rated and I still think that is true, but it doesn't stop them being brilliant. Some of the riffs here are majestic and there are a number of classic moments that deserve high praise. Plants vocals are fascinating as he adjusts his vocal performance to match the songs really well and the drums and bass are spectacular. I think I want to dislike zeppelin more than I do.
Led Zepp? 5 stars easy..
Already loved it. So good.
I could go on and on about this album. I first heard when I was in middle school and I remember being surprised that it was 'Led Zeppelin' who I thought made really hard core music. I still felt like a badass listening though. I don't know what I'd call it but I love the build-ups where it kind of does a beat drop into the rocky part. So cool.
Incredible album! I sometimes forget just how much (relatively straight ahead) blues rock Zeppelin does. Bonham was one of the greats (and a personal fave).
Hard rock doesn’t get much better than this and this album must have blown people away in 1969. I think I bought it about 10 years later. I could listen to John Bonham drumming all day. Add to this the fluid bass lines of JPJ and it’s one of the great rhythm sections. The guitar break on Whole Lotta love never gets old.
Fire!
My favorite Lord of the Rings album ever. Would I listen to again? Hell yes.
All time hard rock classic.
All time great.
When "Ramble On" ended and I thought it was over until "Moby Dick" kicked in with that groove...
I mean, it's Led Zeppelin. It's great! Some of the best instrumentals in all of rock n roll
Led Zeppelin is #1
Gema
More or less impossible to not give this a five. Influential and a great listen.
What an incredible album. Every song a banger and a classic.
Great album of course! Listening to other 1001 suggestions makes me appreciate Led Zeppelin even more.
Just pure blues rock goodness
Peak Zeppelin, back when they were a rock band, before Plant's weird folk nonsense. At no point could anyone else listen to this and think "hmm, now maybe slow it down and add some mandolin."
I was stoked to see this pop up today. This one speaks for itself, but I'll throw down some light thoughts. Classic tracks: Whole Lotta Love & Ramble On Tracks I saved: What Is and What Should Never Be & Thank You I really enjoyed the heavy instrumental jamming in these songs. Great jam breaks in The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker (that end solo tho), Moby Dick, and Bring It on Home.
Do we even have to talk about this?
A classic rock album it brings me back to my childhood
Scott Dudek special right here. He would bop this album (CD version) in the ole blue Honda oddessey on the way to hoops practice back in the day. Heartbreaker was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar (yes I used to shred) and feel it is one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time. Tons of nostalgia here, hence it’s deserving of the first 5/5 score so far since beginning my 1001 album journey . Would give a 6-7/5 if I could.
Led Zeppelin saved my life 9 times. They also released 9 albums, coincidence? I think not!! This album is perfect from the first note to the last
Led Zeppelin II & IV had one of the biggest influences on my music taste
No notes necessary. This album has been in my collection for a long time, and I love it.
When I listen to Led Zeppelin, it's not this album. It's Physical Graffiti, III, IV, Houses of the Holy, some of their live stuff and I think Presence is a really underrated album. You won't catch me listening to In Through The Out Door, though. It's rare that I listen to this one and their first album not because I don't like them, but just because their catalog is so expansive and there's so much to pick from. To me, their other albums are vastly more interesting, complex and diverse. I've always felt that Led Zeppelin was the exceptionally rare band that could take risks, experiment with different genres of music and make it work. That's due to technical mastery...this band had an all-star at every position but also had exceptional chemistry. That said, this album is still great. And it's rare that I listen to it but when I do I'm reminded of how fantastic and flawless it is.
As a Zeppelin fan, I’m going to exaggerate everything about their impact, but I think the opening riff of this album is the very essence of rock music. Zeppelin embodied everything about their impact genre in ways that other bands, maybe better bands, did not or could not do. And their strength is that this is unarguably not even their best album.
The blues and heavy rock have been amped up thanks to this album. Every song has got that seriously loud and heavy , polished sound that just blows all other bands away so far they need a spacecraft to get back to earth and try to compete. It is a masterpiece of really awesome rock 'n roll.
Starting an album with “Whole Lotta Love” is genius, sets the tone brilliantly for what is to come: incredible guitar work from Paige, powerful vocals from Plant, and an energetic delivery from Bonham & JPJ. There isn't a single weak point on this album - it's classic Zeppelin all over.
Can a couple of horny English boys do a lil hard rocking blues.. 👉👈 mayhaps a sprinkling of lord of the rings. Baby baby baby baby
Another gimme. Although LZ IV is my favorite.
Starts as it means to go on and doesn't relent. Even the drum solo is tolerable.
I was happy to listen to this again and remember just how good it is. If there's a weak spot it's Moby Dick. Drum solos and rock climbing... Amazing album.
It's Led Zeppelin II.
classic. had to watch their first live show.
Great instrumental. Whole lotta love, heartbreaker (great guitar solo)and thank you might be my favorite ones
I meannnnnn. How can you argue with this?
I’m always struck by how balanced Jimmy Page’s guitar playing feels. Sometimes his guitar stays close to Robert Plant’s voice, gently supporting it; other times, it bursts forward with raw energy and takes the spotlight. But no matter what role he plays, the sense of balance in the whole song is always there. His guitar never feels out of place — it always fits into the bigger picture. In the Lemon Song, I really feel that his playing becomes a kind of conversation with Plant’s vocals. And underneath it all, I’m completely drawn in by John Paul Jones’s bass lines — groovy, fluid, and full of life. The way they all interact makes the whole track feel spontaneous yet so carefully built.
Fuck yeah! Just such a massive and epic album with banger after banger!
Probably a nostalgia 5 stars but I'm okay with that. I love this album and most everything Zep. There's just a rhythm to the whole thing that can't be found anywhere else. It's a weak 5 and not Led Zeppelin's best album, but still a pretty easy 5 for me to give - Let's go! First Zep. I'm pumped. Pretty sure this is 5 stars without even needing to listen - Whole Lotta Love is wildly trippy in the middle. A bit too psychedelic for my tastes... But Bonham still stars throughout. Somehow provides rhythmic grounding to some wacky stuff. Then they just fall right back into the power chord riff and regular song again - I think their strength is Robert Plant's incredible vocals and the rhythmic fluidity. It swings and rushes and lags but somehow remains smooth throughout. Robert Plant is the lead singer that SO many good rock bands are missing. And Bonham is so clearly irreplaceable - I don't think this is their best album. But it still slaps.
One of the 🐐
If the entire album was just whole lotta love it would still be 5 stars.
It's called classic rock for a reason.
Simply their best record imo. Unabashedly borrowing from blues standards and moulding them into a sonic world that only this group of performers could have created. The period from LZ 1-4 someone great rock era runs of records in only a few years. And with apologies to Physical Graffiti - great but bloated - they never made a better record afterwards
It's Led Zeppelin II.....it gets a 5.
I find it hard to give classics like this anything less then 5 stars. Who am I to argue with Led Zeppelin? But if they would ask me, maybe they could've done without Moby Dick
A classic for a reason. Don't have to say much. A visionary band at its peak of power. From Whole Lotta Love to What Is And What Should Never Be to The Lemon Song and on and on. No stinkers. 5/5
So many great riffs. Possibly their best album.
So much classic stuff. What is And What Should Never Be is so cool with the panned guitars. Lemon Song and Heartbreaker both have great riffs and baselines. The album starts with Whole Lotta Love, ffs!
No notes. I’m not worthy.
You wouldn't think the band that was so infamous, they have stories involving groupies and sharks that would make you toes curl could write one of the greatest love songs. Thank You is a way up there as a great song, it surpasses some of their greater well known songs which fill out this album smoothly. 5/5
Getting the led out! Love the drums throughout !
Top tier
Fantastic album. 9 songs in total, 8 songs you know for sure, and 1 other that’s still pretty good. Zero need to skip a song.
Probably my second favorite Led Zeppelin album behind IV, just a lot of really great songs. Not sure why Thank You has more streams than 1/2 the songs on this album though, it is my least favorite song on this album and I always forget it exists. Low 5.
How can one not love this record?
Yeah. It is.
An all time GOAT'd album.
I love reading the reviews here of original bands like Led Zep from young trendies who just go ‘yawn,.. oh! Bands from MY youth did it soooo much better’ or making pseudo-intellectual analyses of Plant’s sexuality. Led Zep did it first and with a rawness that the Cobains just imitated.
Whole album knocks.
One of the most guitarded records of all time. Listening to this today sent me right back to being thirteen, smoking weed for the first time and chilling in a Scarborough basement with my lifelong bros
Classic
All time favorite!
I gave Led Zeppelin I a "4" so this is a "5"
Absolutely brilliant album!
Raw and rocking. Garage rock at its best
Another Stella album. Thank you almost drops it down to a 4, but the rest of the album is up there with some of their best. Killer band with a killer run
I was surprised to realize I knew every song on this, it teleported me straight back to childhood, playing my DS in my dad’s car on long Sunday drives to my mom’s house. Nostalgia aside, the riffs and energy are still great.
This is what I think when I hear “Classic Rock”
pretty easy 5, love this one
I was going to say four stars but the audacity and execution on Moby Dick pushed this to a five star.
What a start to an album. No skips.
One of the best rock albuns of all times. Arguably the best rock band of all times.
Fantastic album.
I mean.. 5 obviously..
This is an iconic album even if the lyrics seem trite in today’s terms. This must have sounded so unbelievable in 1969. 5/5
It's Les Zeppelin, need I say more?
Great album from one of the best bands ever, I don't listen to them nearly enough. Lovely the blues vibe, solid riffs and it gives me the feeling that it's live when I listen to it! 5 stars all day.
Banger of the Album: Ramble On I mean, what is there to say...
Incredible album and probably Zeppelin's best.
Is there a Zeppelin album that isn't a five? And what's with Robert Plant's weird obsession with having his lemon squeezed? Take it easy, Robert. No one wants hear about the juice running down your leg. 5
5 stars despite having to picture "juice" running down Robert Plant's leg while he brings it on home. Thank You will forever be one of my favorite love songs ❤️
This rocks.
Zeppelin is one of those bands that I was very into as a kid but that has largely fallen off my radar... Revisiting Zeppelin II is a TREAT. Bonham and Jones are absolutely up there as one of the very best rhythm sections of all time. The "deeper" cuts are really resonating with me more, but even the "overplayed" songs are excellent. "Ramble On" is probably my favorite Zeppelin song of all.
Led Zeppelin II. Top Score! I mean, killer bass, awesome guitar, outstanding vocals, and then the outrageous drums! Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Moby Dick! What else is there to say!?!
God level.
I listened to this many times growing up. It was a great album to listen to through headphones after burning one. John Paul Jones doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarists ever. John Bonham was a wildman on the drums and percussion. I could do without Robert Plant's wank session vocalizations
Led Zeppelin lo mejor de la vida . Whota lotta love es mi espiritual
Amazing album from an amazing band. Bonham's drums are just fantastic. Not my favorite Zeppelin album though, probably not even top 3 zeppelin albums for me... which says a lot for how good they are.
Incredible. Possibly their best.
Man oh man. This album is just so IT. Each of the four members of the band are easily in the Top Five of musicians in their respective instruments and they are connected telepathically by black magic or something. I would have probably signed the devil's contract too if I could make songs like these.
What to say about this album and band that hasn’t been said 1000X already? Nothing really. Sometimes you go a bit without listening to them and forget just how amazing they are then when you do it’s just like “oh yeah, maybe they are the greatest of all time for a reason” 10/10
A stone-cold five star masterpiece 🤘🤘🤘
Just a fantastic album. I've listened to it so many times over the decades that it's hard to review, but almost every song is a classic.
also arrived last week in Vinyl. so don't mind giving this another spin. So much great material after their debut and my god, this would have sounded so foreign in 1969. Gems Whole lot of love and heartbreaker for me.
Amazing Awesome Excellent Excellence in Music
it’s perfect duh
Every song is gold. And god damn, John Paul Jones bass lines!!
A classic
The worst of Led Zeppelin is better than most bands' best. And this isn't the worst (looking at you, Coda). It's not Houses, it's not IV, and that's alright. It's the followup to the album that brought them to the world, and it kicks fucking ass.
Oh come on. It's incredible. This is almost like nothing else. Inventing the future. Whole Lotta Love. Moby Dick. Heartbreaker. Ramble On. Bring it on Home. Wooo.
Great album!
Led Zeppelin II is about as close to a perfect album as they come. The cymbals, the vocals, the screaming guitars…this album is loud yet impeccably clean. It’s not Houses of the Holy, but it’s something I like even better.
Незаконно хороший альбом, маю платівочку з ним
Всім альбомам ЛЗ (окрім коди) я по дефолту ставлю 5.
My thoughts remain the same ... there is not a single bad song on the first five Led Zeppelin records!
Class!
Best album on here
If I were ever abducted by aliens and was asked what Rock n Roll was I was play them Led Zeppelin II. Hard yet melodic. It’s also a master class by John Paul Jones.
Day590 - obviously an all time great
One of their best. The greatest rock band of all time.
Gives me more than Led Zeppelin I and less than IV, excited to get back to III and the rest through this list
209/1089 - Neat! I'm still in descending order for the numbered Zeppelin albums. I like this one a lot. Ramble On, Whole Lotta Love, and Moby Dick are awesome. The rest of the tracks are quality blues rock. Excellent musicianship.
Moby Dick is referenced by the character Lana on the animated show Archer. Then another character by the name of Krieger says Bonham was a pussy (Krieger is a massie Rush fan)
Lesser reviewers have convinced themselves this only deserves a 4. Oh ho, not so. Hating cliches have become cliche. Led Zep is such a behemoth that it fosters scorn. However, although it is not the band's best album, Led Zep II is still sensational. 5 STAR NEWMAN FIRE JOE MORGAN TRACK BY TRACK "Whole Lotta Love:" Operatic opener "What Is and What Should Never Be:" A timeless track that shows Led's range outside of rocking hard "The Lemon Song:" Simple and fun rocker "Thank You:" For this listen, I really tired to listen to the lesser known tracks and this was a standout. Great musicianship throughout. THANK YOU, LED ZEP. "Heartbreaker:" Outstanding "Living Loving Maid:" Fun, catchy rocker "Ramble On:" One of the weakest tracks, and overplayed, but still good "Moby Dick:" Solid drumming "Bring it on Home:" Slow, Robert Johnson-esque finish
Booya. thouroughly enjoyed this listen. each song had a unique riff that made the album not drag at all even though each song is kinda long, many of the songs have unusual form so it mixes things up.
Among the very, very best
Absolute classic. No skips. Chock full of iconic riffs. Drums are tight, vocals are raw. Energetic and subversive response to the flowery folk of the time.
“Bangers McGee” (9/10, 5/5 on this scale)
Good album but it's history makes it conflicting for me Fav track: Moby dick
One of the greatest albums, with arguably the best straight up rock and roll playing of any disc
It's just a great album of music that I have enjoyed since my high school days in the 70's.
Excellent album
Yes
Of course there's Zeppelin here. Widely recognized as groundbreakers and influencers, they're rock legends. Now, they've never really been one of my favorites even though I love rock, hard rock, metal, all of it. It's just that I wasn't there in their heyday when they were breaking ground. I was more excited by the 1st and 2nd generation bands that were influenced by them. These guys were older, radio staples and I thought they were OK. As I go older, I realized that they really were ground breaking and I can appreciate them more. Let's talk about this album in particular though. (It's so hard to listen to this with fresh ears because I've heard some of these songs like 1000 times on the radio.) Mostly, it's good. I wish the mix was better because everyone loves John Paul Jones' bass playing, but it's often lost in the mix. The rhythm section of him and Bonham is exceptional. Pocket Kings. Thank you and Ramble on, the least rocking of the songs, are the best of them somehow. While some folks blast Whole Lotta Love as noisy or indulgent, I think it's quite cool. They're doing things here that you weren't hearing anywhere else. And it's not noise for the sake of noise like that crap on the Velvet Underground album It's a classic and I won't turn the off if they come on the radio, but I also don't see myself firing it up to listen to the whole thing. Still giving it a 5 because of it's significance and even though it's not My favorite, I can sure understand why it is for a lot of people.
Absolute balls to the walls classic of rock/heavy metal/blues.
Same as I said of my review of LZ III "Not their best, but absolutely phenomenal in every aspect otherwise!”"
başyapıt 🙏🏻
There's not a bad song on this album. For me peak Led Zeppelin. Their ability to shift tone and tempo on this album is simply incredible. As enjoyable today as it was when I was 13 and first heard this album.
1. Ramble On 2. The Lemon Song 3. Whole Lotta Love
Everyone was dead set on Zep IV being the best but in my opinion II was always the best. Is JPJ the greatest rock bassist ever? Quite probably. Shall we throw a drum solo on this album? Why not. Shall we steal lots of music and not admit it? Yes, and that's probably the biggest bum note Zep pulled. Still I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
Classic led zeppelin album with pump up rock and insane guitar work
5/5 no further explanation needed
One of LZ’s best albums…not a bad song in the bunch. Could listen to over and over again!
A classic!
I'm not sure there's another album where a guitarist has this many all time classic riffs, Page and the rest of the band are on fire. 99.9% of bands don't have a greatest hits this good. Phenomenal record.
This band since the day the broke onto the scene in 1969, has clearly been established as one of the greatest RnR bands of all times. What they lacked in creativity in the creation of the their early album titles, they more than compensated for with the licks they laid with their music and vocals. We all have our favorite Led Zeppelin album, mine is the first album, but all they released during their early years of existence were five-star albums. Led Zeppelin II is no exception. My favorite cut is "Whole Lotta Love" that I believe would have been more fitting on Led Zeppelin I, but it matters not. This is a GREAT album! The music they are offering clearly established the first album was not a fluke, and served as a representative precursor to what would be coming in the future.
Excellent. What more to say? Oh yea, LOTR lyrics (awesome).
Amazing start to finish. I think I like IV a tad better but still an easy five.
Great Album
I’m convinced Led Zeppelin never made a bad song. Every one on here is a banger.
What’s to say that hasn’t already been said about this album. Classic zep
“Say the thing, Bart!” — 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳. La classe s’extase de joie, enivré par le son bouillonnant d’un des meilleurs album rock & roll coulant dans leurs veines auditives
Undeniably fantastic
Finally something really great after long line of rubbish rap and average rock
Great album
Epic!!
Totally a masterpiece. Greatest hits of music history :chef kiss
Goated album
the very definition of rock out with your cock out rock
5 Star. Nostalgic, but holds up. Sounds great even by today’s standards. Deserves the hype.
Overall: 10/10 It's hard for me to even give this a perfect rating because it deserves so much more than that. It's a classic in every single sense of the word. The songs on this album have made their way into pop culture and invaded our lives for over 50 years now and we're all better off because of it. I couldn't praise Jimmy's riffs, JPJ's low end, Bonham's incredible drumming or Plant's wailing vocals enough to give them justice. All around a perfect album. Fav Song: Ramble On Least Fav Song: What Is and What Should Never Be
This is the 165th album I’m rating. How much Led Zeppelin is on this list? The 3rd album I've gotten in 165. Adding to my Playlist - What is and what Should Never be, The Lemon Song, Thank You, and Bring it on Home. Not Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Already Added to my Playlist - Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman), Ramble On, and Moby Dick. Moby Dick - The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair is much better. All in all I liked 9/9 songs. I always thought Led Zeppelin was a singles band that had mostly shit on their albums but I guess not.
While these lads should have better credited the blues artists whose songs they drew their inspiration from, there can be no doubt that the result was an ABSOLUTELY ROCKIN' album showcasing extremely high levels of talent. This one is an all-timer. Whoever it was that first brought the blues across the pond and into Led Zeppelin's ears, thank you.
Hell yeah
One of the best albums of all time. 5/5
It’s Led Zeppelin, course it’s good
fantastic
Excellent
Classic. I can still hear my friends step dad singing “living loving maid” whenever he got in a fight with his mom.
Would be 5 stars for Ramble On alone, but overall a huge album in every way.
Richtig gut! Mag die Abwechslung, die Gitarre und den Gesang und allgemein die Musik, sehr catchy
Shit this might be tied for my favorite (Physical Graffiti of course) Whole Lotta Love, Thank you, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, and Moby Dick take the cake (I tried to pick a top 3 and simply cannot, sorry puta)
Absolute classic
Ooofff...this felt like getting punched in the face with the singing and the music, not subtle but I like it that way... pure rocking delightfulness
John Bonham’s playing Moby Dick for real
A total kick in the googlies!
Legendär das Album. Musikgeschichte.
Sophmore albums are often nothing but outtakes from the more excellent dbeut. Sometimes, they are a step toward the breakout album number three. These are pretty common patterns. As always, Led Zeppelin broke those patterns and produced a hit filled second album that was probably better than the debut but as good or better than the third album. Led Zeppelin II is full of now classic Zeppelin songs such as Heartbreaker, Whole Lotta Love, Living Loving Maid, and Ramble On. It is one of the defining albums of hard rock but will all the Blues that Led Zepplin was known for in thier first album. The Lemon Song, especially, is classic Blues (and very suggestive). If someone wants to explore Led Zeppelin for the first time, start here not with Led Zepplin IV. Both are great, but this is more honest and raw.
Light and Shade. A classic.
This one’s just full of hits but it’s also really well thought out in terms of the track order. The musicianship is also just insane
Iconic.
I probably can’t say anything about this album that hasn’t been said dozens of times. No lulls or dips throughout. This is probably the closest you can get to the definition of rock and roll
I like a good blues jam and The Lemon Song does that, vile and grimy in all the right ways. The whole album is Led Zep at their best, just squeezing out that guitar
A great classic rock album, probably my favorite of the LZ collection. LZ was and still is a band that has so much influence on the music to come, see Greta Van Fleet. Influence, originality, timeless - this has to be a 5 star album. 9.5/10 90/1001
Best
Maybe my favorite LZ record
Classic
It's mind boggling that we went from Meet the Beatles to this in five years while most popular pop, rock, and country today sounds like it could have come out in 1984. A veritable, dare I say, smorgasbord of iconic riffs, I basically learned to play both guitar and bass from this record.
Marvellous. Not perfect but so many bangers
Album from one of the best bands that ever lived.
Already one of my top 20 favorites
Baby, baby, BABY, baBe, 👶, babY, bAby, Babe, bb
Enorme fan van de mixing/(re)mastering op deze plaat. Voelt echt alsof je tussen ze in staat in de studio. Heerlijk... Persoonlijke favorieten: - Thank You (ooit ontdekt dankzij fenomenale Chris Cornell cover) - Heartbreaker into Living Loving Maid Extra bonuspunten omdat er in het dorp waar ik werk een man woont die toevallig ook Robert Plant heet
Can't you see by Marshall Tucker Band came on shuffle after and I was like damn this is a bop I didn't know this was Zeppelin?! Album was good vibes tho
This is maybe my 5th favorite Led Zeppelin album and still an easy 5. Not much to say here
This album always makes me think of one of the guests on the Bob & Tom Show trying to make a vibrator pulsate to the riff of Whole Lotta Love. Great fucking album. These guys made the same album seven times over seven years and they're all A+ All-Star efforts. Long Live John Bonham.
God damn, this album is two plates heavy. Sure, plenty of blues and some soft tones mixed in, but god damn
If their debut was reflective of their wholesale revision of blues rock, II showed they could come up with their own songs too, with a perfect blend of the blues that got them notoriety, the heavy riffs that made them huge, and the songwriting to come that would make them legends. In fact, the only real lowlights are the overlong and hacky blues medley “The Lemon Song” and the unnecessary if rock classic “Moby Dick”. Even then, this is the rocket launch showing one of the greatest bands to ever do it find their solid footing and punch a hole in the genre forever.
Classic. So good - all the jams.
Led Zeppelin is one of my favourite artists of all time, so this is an easy vote for me. That being said, I don't like Moby Dick. It kinda ruins the vibe a bit. Still, I'd put this in 3rd place of my LZ rankings
Just over 50 days in and I’m already on my 2nd album in the Top 20 for the site. It’s Led Zeppelin, dude. What is it that I could possibly say about them that hasn’t already been said 1 million times before? It’s almost flawless. It would be easier saying what I didn’t like about it. I am not the biggest fan of the weird drum solo filled song “Moby Dick”. Other than that, I’d be filling the rest of the review with my favorite songs. So I’ll just tell you my favorite song on this album is “Heartbreaker”. Every time I roll a Led Zeppelin album is going to be a special occasion but it also means one less Led Zeppelin album to look forward to later, so it’s a double edged sword really. I’m rolling heat in general this week and it’s only Tuesday, hoping to keep it up.
This album fucks. Seems like they were much less into Tolkien at the time.
Grea
Excellent
Gull. ALGJÖR KLASSÍK. Ekki einn veikur punktur.
Un real clásico.
This album absolutely rips. Lord of the Rings references.
Amazing album, all the way through. Dipped down with the very last song a little bit but not enough to stop this from being a solid 5 stars
Crazy guitar work. This album still feels very fresh this is definitely my first 5
Dude.
I knoooow
My dad bought me this album on vinyl when I was 14 because he wore it out when he was the same age. I've listened to it hundreds of time since and have gone through phases in my life where nearly every song on this album have been among my favourites. As a teen I loved the driving riff to Living Loving Maid, later became enamoured with the face melting solo on Heartbreaker. I used to listen to Bring It On Home on my iPod nano before bed because I thought the bluesy harmonica outro was calming. Even to this day you can find Ramble On on my Spotify most listened playlist. I could write pages about this album. Easiest 5 yet.
Mijn lievelingsalbum van Led Zeppelin! Heartbreaker blijft echt ongelooflijk geweldig. Geen woorden voor. En dan heb je nog Ramble On, Whole Lotta Love en de geweldige drum solo in Moby Dick. 5 sterren dus, zonder twijfel.
Led Zeppelin made a row of 5 star albums in their career, II is no exception, and is a fantastic follow up to their debut (which was released in the same year, it's mindblowing how they made two sch great albums within a year). It's an incredibly great hard rock album mixed with blues rock and early heavy metal. Whole Lotta Love is one of their greatest songs and I also love the softer, more folk-oriented songs, like Thank You.
This is a monster of an album, and really one of the first rock albums I leaned to love back when I was like 14. Really one of the first CDs I bought, after seeing kids with Led Zepellin t-shirts in the 90s. This is probably the most rocking, high energy of LZ's albums, with very few slow moments beyond maybe the Lemon Song. Even that is a chill blues song, just kind of overshadowed by the monster tracks around it. Whole Lotta Love and Livin' Lovin' Maid used to be my favourite tracks, though over time I've come to favor Ramble On and What is and What Should Never be. Easy 5/5.
Absolutely outstanding
One of the great albums of all time... no doubt... the critics didn't really like it or them... a lot of their musical peers talked them down... but... they are the PEOPLE'S CHAMP... lol... you could NOT argue with the sold out STADIUMS... the records that were broken all over the USA... for me, it was the perfect timing of hormones in my body, and "pheromones" in this monumental record... if you are a red blooded male, or female for that matter... then you literally, viscerally, felt this album... Led Zep's first record was GREAT... and their third and fourth are classic... but this is NUMERO UNO when it comes to what they and their sound was all about... the pounding of John Bonham... the classy versatility of John Paul Jones... the over the top front man with the frilly blouses and tight jeans, (who cared if he had all his teeth?), Bobby Plant... and the maestro, and band leader, the legendary Jimmy Page... they just popped you right in the mouth with "Whole Lotta Love"... that one song would put you in the RnR hall of fame... but when the following cuts are: "Thank You", "Heartbreaker" into "Livin' Lovin' Maid"... "The Lemon Song... "Ramble On" et al... then what you have is a true all timer that BELONGS on this list... and at the very top of it... FIVE STARS... Six if i was allowed.
Got a whole lotta love for this album. Lemon song is outrageous. Heartbreaker? A classic. Ramble on? Incredible. Nobody should be a talented as Jimmy Page, it's hardly fair!
Need louder headphones
Riffs galore
I…this album…you gotta…I…just…just listen to it.
Killer start. Played the start of this to CDM, realized it would be the same if mom and dad had spun up the best albums of 1931 when was a toddler. Very nearly all killer. Heartbreaker is used in TV/film more than I realized (at least lately,) but feels the most underrated track here.
Fantastic album. Worth my first 5* rating
Favorite Tracks: Whole Lotta Love Heartbreaker Ramble On
wow, three 5s in a row. What a run. This album is perfection.
Hard to be objective about this one. I love LZ, and love a lot of the songs on here already. That said, I've never listened to this as a whole album, so it was still a somewhat new experience. And as I expected, it was a great one; it's just rock and roll at its finest. Side 1 is fantastic. Every song is interesting and draws you in. The weakest part was "Thank You", but it worked well as a change of pace to the heavier tracks that came before it. The Lemon Song wasn't great lyrically, but still was a solid, rocking song. Side 2 was even better. It started off hot with Heartbreaker, which really showcased the guitar and vocal aspects of the group. It went right into another strong effort in Living Loving Maid, which had a more free and fun feel than some of the other tracks. Ramble On was also great, and maybe the best song on the entire album. The last two tracks are also good, but slightly less so than the ones before them. As a whole, the music is powerful and meaningful. All instruments contribute, but the guitar is the star of the show. And it really shines. The vocals are almost as much another instrument in the mix as they are telling a story; less important is what they say, and more important is how they say it. The parts all come together to make an awesome record so that you feel like you're enjoying one complete work instead of little pieces put in a row. For negatives, I think the album is a bit homogenous. LZ can definitely range more than they did on II. I actually love the sound and style, but they really didn't stray vary much outside of that lane other than with Thank You. I could see that detracting from the experience for some. Also, not all of the lyrical compositions are particularly strong. Plant's singing is perfect for the band, but some of the stuff he sings about can be inane. He can also have a way with imagery that is incredible, so it's disappointing when he instead gives you a weird sexual innuendo. Even with those detractions, this was an awesome album. I would definitely listen to the whole thing over and over, and may just do that again now. It was great as one work; each song is great on it's own; each part of each song is stimulating and enjoyable. This as good as a rock and roll record can be. Overall: 4.8/5
This will have been my third Led Zeppelin record on my journey after getting I and IV. While I will admit that IV had more dynamic scope in the songwriting and more refined production from Jimmy Page, that's not to say II isn't a banger record. From front to back, each of these songs that the band wrote and performed, both their original compositions and their interpolations of blues classics, is still enjoyable today. The opening riff of "Whole Lotta Love" gives way to Robert Plant's soaring vocals over an extended breakdown of overdubbed instruments. "What Is and Never Should Be" is an excellent quiet-loud-quiet composition with Plant's phased vocals. "The Lemon Song" is a creative spin on Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" with sexually charged lyrics. "Thank You" boasts a wonderful atmospheric build with John Paul Jones's Hammond organ playing in the background. "Heartbreaker" into "Living Loving Maid (Just a Woman)" is the one-two punch rocker emblematic of the group this early in their career. "Ramble On" is a classic folk rock ode to Tolkien's Middle-Earth that feels inspiring for the next adventure. "Moby Dick" has the luxury of containing the awe-strucking extended drum solo from John Bonham. Finally, the band closes with a cover of Sonny Boy Williamson II's "Bring It On Home" that starts and ends laid-back and reserved like the original while going full-on frontal assault in the middle. There ain't much else to say when II is a straightforward blues rock rager that marked improvement from their debut months earlier.
det räcker med introt av whole lotta love
As good as music gets for me.
I agree, this is worth listening... Long time ago... A template for rock albums to come. A bit of rocking tracks, ballads, blues references, pop/rock songs, drum solo !, amazing bass line in "the lemon song". (the standard for what a bass line should be) "What is and what should never be", superb ! "Moby Dick" superb ! "Ramble on", "Thank you", acoustic feely, but tight, and clear, great production... Influeces by Tolkien.. "Whole lotta love", a milestone in rock music. "Heartbreaker" , "Bring it on home".. inspired the careers of so many guitarrists..
Perfection. Best album of all time. No more comments.
I still hear these songs regularly on the radio so I would definitely say it should be in the list.
Something close to perfection.
