Reviews (page 5 of 14)
excellent all around, they rocked so hard and so early, every member goes all out
Haven't heard a bad song yet. Great album
This is awesome.
I love this album. I walked down the aisle to “Thank You” but every song is a phenomenon.
No list such as this one can omit at least four or even five of the "classic" albums recorded by Led Zeppelin during their heyday. *II* is not even my favourite LP by the legendary British rock band--I prefer the peaks of *III*, *IV* and *Physical Graffiti* to the high plateau of this one--but it's certainly the most cohesive offering of their career. Of course, the band pillaged the music and riffs of key bluesmen for this one, a form of cultural appropriation that would be viewed very suspiciously today, and rightly so. But even with that in mind you can't deny Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham's genius, as well as their stellar performing chops, along with the perfect production that was used to transcend the latter. Here lie the little details that can make the record sound fresh decades and decades after its release. There is something akin to a mystical atmosphere in the way those blues riffs come off here--and that mystic aura is nowhere as striking as it is in "Heartbreaker", where you start to suspect Page and Plant indeed have had some shady transactional dealings with "the man in black" so as to succeed in harnessing such a seductive devilry from start to finish. Which doesn't mean we should forget the other gems in the record. By the way, the production values also transcend other details not directly related to blues-rock or "hard-rock": One example among many: that elegiac organ in the airy yet impressive ballad / torch song "Thank You". Add a quite large array of styles to the mix--"The Lemon Song" and its unpredictable traps / rhythm changes / 180-degree turns, going from sleazy to hectic ; "Living Loving Maid" and its callback to the sixties upbeat British Invasion shenanigans the Yardbirds had popularized a few years back (with or without Page) ; the terrific "Ramble On", oscillating between incredibly catchy electric / electrified hooks and some more acoustic flavours foretelling the countryside wonders of *III* ; or the percussive and repetitive/obsessive extravaganza of "Moby Dick", which chases the most unbelievable Leviathan the rock idiom has ever known: a drum solo that can actually truly excite you instead of boring you to tears--and you end up with a masterpiece. Jimmy Page is a versatile guitarist, driven by a wild imagination that allows him to be everything at once: precise, messy, vituosistic, instinctive, highly harmonic, noisy, forceful, subtle... Robert Plant's high-pitched yet manly voice is haunted by all the devils of the Delta. John Bonham is not a drummer, he's a tornado. And John Paul Jones is the stable rock over which the whole endeavor stands (without his steady hand on the bass, all of this piling up of elements would crumble under its own ridiculous weight). Finally, *II* also harbors one of the most extraordinary killer LP openers of all time, "Whole Lotta Love"--whose cyclical and descending guitar licks, drug-addled, "psychedelic" middle section, and final guitar solo make the whole album worth a visit on their own. *Led Zeppelin* is obviously the epitome of "dad-rock" today (actually, more like *grandad rock*, even). It's the platonic ideal of what a blues-influenced, early hard-rock LP is. And yet sometimes Dad is not just an old fool, he sounds *damn* right as he elects to tell his truths to the young'uns. As in here. 5/5, what else? Number of albums left to review: 163 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 362 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 211 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 269
Baby, I'm not foolin' I need some coolin' after this solid first album.
Great album, Led Zeppelin rules, love the guitar-forward riff-based music.
This is probably my favorite Led Zeppelin album. They're all amazing, but I grew up with this one. Such great amazing songs, and they always have such a good mix of blues and rock.
Classic
This has to be the best Led Zeppelin album of all time. A perfect mix of hard rock, blues, and pop. Plus, it bows out before any one of their gimmicks becomes taxing. Lightning in a bottle.
I feel like this was Dad Rock even as it came out, but it is very good Dad Rock, with a lot of fun voice modulation and panning (though I was sick of that by the end of Ramble On), and a great rhythm section.
Such an influential classic. For me it holds up very well to a re-listen.
Impossible to say what is Led Zepplins best. So much great stuff and 4 incredibly talented dudes. Yeah this album is incredible. Love the moby dick right into bring it on home. Probably the greatest rock band ever.
Fire classic rock dad moment, ramble on indeed 👍
Listening to this album with fresh ears - my main take is - Damn this album sounds good. The beats make this album shine. The high points are so very high. Never liked Heartbreaker and still dont but everything else is a gem.
Masterpiece, duh...
I stand corrected. I had assumed (as I am not a huge "classic rock" fan) that Led Zeppelin IV was the cat's meow for this band. Nope. Turns out that (as I said, not a huge fan of the genre) pretty much Led Zeppelin is one of the best bands in existence and their catalog extends WAY past the "oldies" radio station playlist. Wow! Just WOW! This band IS seriously amazing... I think of some "supergroups" that emerge now and then, that perfect collision of great musicians coming together. But as great as most of the supergroups are, they are largely expected to be so and built on purpose for that effect. I think Led Zeppelin just "happened" naturally and that makes all the difference.
Fuck yes turn this shit up to 11 5/5
whole lotta love what is and what should never be heartbreaker living loving maid ramble on
Pure perfection.
One of my fav, the good old days
One of the best and most influential albums of all time. Incredible experience and this is one of the albums of my life which change my vision about how good can be the music.
An amazing track list. Amazing album, but the only thing holding it back is that I think The Lemon Song doesn’t really have as much to it than the other songs. Other than that, amazing record. A classic.
I went to sleep last night, I worked as hard as I can I bring home my money You take my money Give it to another man I should have quit you, baby Oh, such a long time ago I wouldn't be here with all my troubles Down on this killing floor Squeeze me, baby till the juice runs down my leg The way you squeeze my lemon I'm gonna fall right out of bed When I was 16, I would listen to this album at least 3 times a day. Amazingly, its STILL not played out and I still enjoy it. Its that good. 5/5
4.8/5 - classic. listened 4x to both remasters on spotify (2x each)
Good shtuff.
Fantastic album. I should have listened to more Zeppelin as a kid, liked them, but did not seek the music out.
Led Zeppelin is a classic. This album gives me memories of wrestling practice. Easy 5.
Nobody does it like Led Zeppelin. So much fun to listen to.
Just a solid album start to end.
Easy 5/5. I haven't gotten into the track "Thank You" yet, but everything else is gold. Whole Lotta Love and Ramble On have been played to death on classic rock stations, but there's plenty of other great stuff. Favorite track: Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid - I can't separate the two. Also, I think John Bonham is the best rock drummer. His groove just top notch.
There are no bad Led Zeppelin albums. This is the best though.
There's this line I remember hearing about sophmore albums. Essentially, they tend to be worse than first albums because it's on that first album where you have all of the ideas you've likely spent years and years toiling over. Meanwhile, your second probably has to be rushed out in a couple of months to capitalize on the first album—hence the "sophmore slump." It happens to even the best of 'em. Which makes it twice a miracle that LED ZEPPELIN is not only better than the first album, but in my eyes maybe the best album in their whole discography. I mean, not only did they release this album the same years as their debut, but they did it in-between tour stops. By all accounts, this should be a mess, but then they barge in here with "Whole Lotta Love", "Heartbreaker". "Thank You", "Ramble On", "Bring It On Home", "The Lemon Song", "Moby Dick", "What Is And What Should Never Be"... Even "Livin' Lovin' Maid"! From the moment you put the needle down on side one to the time it falls off side two, it's nothing but some of the best, stronger stuff they've ever done. And the most varied, too, until HOUSES OF THE HOLY. You just can't argue with riffs and melodies and a rhythm section like this. And seriously, "Thank You" might not be the first song most people think of when they think of favorite Zeppelin tunes, but it's **so high** up my list it might even be at the top, for serious. Like, if you can't tell, I don't even have anything insightful to say, really. It's just damn good stuff! Put it on! Jam out! I'unno, do **something** with it! Just don't listen to TRAIN DOES LED ZEPPELIN II. That's the worst thing you could do.
Led Zep almost never disappointed with their albums and how rockin' they were.
That’s a 10. I’m just glowing with praise, man; that’s a no-skip album from start to finish, with incredible energy throughout, a deeply captivating soundscape entirely anchored by a band working in genuinely perfect harmony. Led Zeppelin IV might have all the classics, but I think this album outshines it. I’m still just shell shocked and really struggling to find the words; all I know is that everyone has to hear this album, and that’s the most glowing praise I can give it. Absolutely spectacular, and one of the very best albums we’ve gotten so far. Wow, wow, wow.
Albums like this make me regret any other 5s I've given. Led Zeppelin is just on another level. All killer, no filler.
All time great. 5/5
Every Zeppelin album is such a good time. I thought this was my least favourite of the first 4 going into it but it may have jumped up the list. The 3 song stretch of Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, and Ramble On is as good as it gets.
4.8 Whole Lotta Wanking
Classic Zeppelin album. Just a fun all around listen. Don't need to skip a single track.
Rating: 10/10 One of the greatest rock albums of all time and maybe my favorite Led Zeppelin album. There is so much charisma on this album, every song has incredibly catchy melodies, amazing riffs, and fantastic drumming by John Bonham. Every member shines throughout to create a timeless classic. Favorite songs: pretty much all of them. Worst song: Thank You.
When I listen to an album in the car, I often turn the volume up when my favourite song comes on. When I listen to Led Zeppelin II in the car, I often turn the volume up 9 times by the end of my journey. It’s probably my favourite pure rock album of all time. I defy anyone to listen to the opening riff of Heartbreaker and not want to be Jimmy Page just for a few sweet moments.
This album kicks ass from start to finish.
It's alright.
Every note and drum hit is instant history of rock and roll that all that follow stand on.
Amazing
The ultimate classic hard rock album. 5.0/5.0: Iconic
The musicianship here is astounding. The influences from the blues. All of it. Magnetic.
If you’re going to listen to blues rock from this era, then it’s hard to beat this classic. It’s derivative, self-indulgent, and a good chunk of the songs are straight up stolen, but this is still a 5 star masterpiece. Maybe IV is the better album, but this is certainly the more fun one, and the easiest one to come back to. I rarely get excited by this period of music at this point in my life, I even groaned a little when I saw this one come across my feed, but those feelings never fail to disappear about a minute and a half into Whole Lotta Love. The production on this is simply fantastic. The way they pan the guitars and vocals back and forth between left and right is almost nauseating, in the best way possible. Still a lot of bite in this one, even if the genre as a whole is nothing but stale these days. Great record.
Absolute classic one of the reasons I got into rock music
Outwith Remasters this is the only "proper" Zeppelin album I actually own and it's a classic. Rightfully hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time.
Ooft
One of the best albums of all time. There isn’t a bad track on here - even Moby Dick which is just essentially a 4 minute drum solo is superb. Few albums can top this - apart from maybe Led Zep IV but it’s a close call.
When I was 14 and first heard this, I thought it was the greatest. Now that I am older, and listen to the musicianship, I know why.
Possibly their best album.
All time great. All Bangers.
Arguably the best Zep album. I can never not hear the kick pedal squeak in What Is and What Should Never Be, lol
File this one under “victory lap albums.” I’ve listened to this record a few times, and many of the songs on it individually many times. I know it, I love it, it’s Zeppelin. I love them. How can you not? But there were still some ones I gained a new appreciation for through this listen. “Thank You” is a real standout for me. “If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you/When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.” Hit me hard. There isn’t much that can be said about an album like this that hasn’t already been said, so I don’t feel compelled to say much here. The four members, when brought together, simply created magic. Almost every song on this is a standout track. I’ll leave it at that. 5 stars. Standout tracks: Whole Lotta Love, What is and What Should Never Be, Thank You, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Bring it On Home
YES!
I can’t help it. I love this. Even as overplayed and over exposed as it is.. I mean I still listen to the Beatles too. 5
The ultimate and greatest example of the British blues nerds supercharging the black music of America. But oh god Robert Plant's moaning and groaning on this is ridiculous. When I was a teen and discovered this amazing album I used to worry my mum would hear there was a Brummy man having an operatic orgasm in my room. Jeez Percy, pack it in. Not a fan of 'Whole lottta Love' for above mentioned issue and also instantly tired sounding cliched riff. They could do better and immediately prove that. As well as the Beavis and Butthead approved bluesy metal riffs juddering about all over this album there is a fair bit of light and shade, 'Thank you' is Beatlesesque and quite lovely really, prefiguring 'Stairway' and 'Rain song' on future albums. But to me the thing on this album is the energy, much as Plant's vocals and associated pillow-humping noises can grate, just listen to the end section of 'Heartbreaker' just after the frenetic guitar solo, the band stop for one final huge gulp of air before crashing into the main refrain, John-Paul Jones' seismic jelly wobble of a bass loosens your fillings ready for the last time Percy almost sings himself inside-out with the final "Go away heart breaker!" and his voice just slightly cracks in the middle. Holy smokes that's how you do it people. It is no wonder they became such a phenomenon following this.
A continued run of form that will never be matched. A stone cold classic from beginning to end. The energy and pacing has no rival.
One of the greatest albums of any decade
A triumph of bombast and fantasy.
Some utterly wonderful guitar and drums. Great vocals. Iconic and era defining to say the least!
Superb masterpiece..! One of r’n’r:s greatest album ever.
It's Zep. Of course it's a 5.
I listen to Zeppelin all the time but somehow missed out on this absolute gem of an album…bangers top to bottom (could’ve done without Moby Dick though) and so much energy and interest in every song. Definitely Zeppelin at its best
What can be said about this album that already hasn't been said? It is a masterpiece. Full force of Led Zeppelin. Everything was clicking with the band where they went to peak on Led Zeppelin 4, but, this album is close to the peak.
Rock n roll baby
GOAT
Classic
I mean, it's Zeppelin. Even if you don't like them you have to respect them. The musicianship is unparalleled and Bonzo on the drums is a god damn animal. The plagiarism may be strong with them which is shady and crappy, but the things they did with these songs are revolutionary. I try to separate the person from the music except in rare instances where it's absolutely fowl, so I stand by my rating. Absolute classic. Standout Tracks: Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Moby Dick
Led Zeppelin was one of the most influential rock bands, ever; they were the most dominant force in popular music of the 70s. This album, "II," is Zeppelin in their full, audacious swagger - Jimmy Page's guitar licks, and Robert Plant wailing. The band was famous from the start. This album made them international rock stars - arena shows...
Pretty spontaneous and eccentric, but always cohesive. The highs weren't crazy high but there were plenty of great moments.
This album was so good. Sobre usaron esa escala pentatonica pero da igual, es Led Zeppelin, a ellos se les pasa. Los solos de Jimmy Page simplemente son de otro mundo. Muy buen proyecto. 9/10
LO PREDIJEEEE
Not as good as zep 1 but still better than coda
Loved it. Reminiscent of my childhood but listening to it with a greater understanding and knowledge of Plant’s musical prowess has been a totally different experience.
There is not a universe in which I give an album featuring Bonham <5 stars - it just so happens that everything else about this album is a smash hit. LZ win points for being an authentic band too. Putting hurdles in their own way, never caving in to pressure from the industry, making music because they want to rather than chasing the dragon. Simply joyous
There is only so much room to wax poetic about Led Zeppelin’s opus. Simply put: “Ramble On” has always been one of my Top 3 favorite songs. “Thank You” was the recessional song at my wedding. “Killing Floor” was huge introduction to my love of blues, and I can’t say how many times I rewound “Whole Lot of Love” trying to figure out the reverb section (it was an overdubbing accident). This album should be listened to repeatedly on high volume preferably with headphones. An absolute classic!
This is my gateway Zeppelin album and probably was for others too. I found my dad’s album of this and was immediately hooked. Of course Whole Lotta Love was my favorite back then but as I've dug in further, I’m now solidly enamored with Bring It on Home, which is my current favorite Zepp tune. This album is stocked with bangers, What Is And What Should Never Be is a standout for me personally. And 4 minutes of Bonham on Moby Dick, yes please! If I had to drop a song it would be Lemon Song which say a lot about the quality of this album. Give me more of this!
One of my favorite records as a kid and it still holds up for me. Their playing is so great. Probably the best of this kind of blues rock genre and I don’t think any one else can quite pull off the amount of instrumental features on a rock album. Some weird stuff with the panning shifting that I never noticed before and is kind of distracting but other than that a great sounding album.
So sick, love the raw energy and sound of this album. The rhythm playing is cool, esp on heartbreaker, I really love the subtle variations and tone on the chunky rhythm part
Really loved this. Hated the end of Moby Dick.
There's nothing that I can add that hasn't been said...
Love me some Led Zeppelin
I seriously doubt these guys actually read Lord Of The Rings. Banger after banger.
I’ve had phases of my life when my favorite Led Zeppelin album was III, IV, Physical Graffiti, and (most recently) Houses of the Holy. But after relistening to Led Zeppelin II today, I think I might have a new favorite in town. “Whole Lotta Love,” “What Is And What Should Never Be,” and “Ramble On” are worth the price of admission alone, but this albums has some other great cuts: “Thank You,” “The Lemon Song,” “Moby Dick.” Really, it has no weak point. And JPJ absolutely kills it on this record. Damn, this is such a great album.
I know this one. I like it a lot.
Yes. Simply amazing. Don’t even need to listen but of course I will because it’s so amazing!
One of the quickest 5's I'll give. This is my favorite album from Zep. So raw and such great sequencing start to finish. Wastes no time getting into things with Whole Lotta Love. What a groovy interplay between the drum and guitar -- and of course Plant sells the bit with his commanding vocal performance. Side note: my kids love this song because of the funny man "shrieking" in the mid-section. One day, they'll understand this is only one of many on-stage orgasms that Plant had. Do love how the stereo mix of his vocals through that section completely distort space-time until Bonnham snaps everything back into reality with that staccato snare. Pure class, few better driving songs have been produced. Then we drop into What Is and What Should Never Be that is a ripper in its own right. Jazz-influenced song whose first half oscillates between laid back psychedelic segments that sound as if Plant is singing through a viscous membrane, and driven segments. The Lemon Song is one of my all time favorite Zeppelin songs. The gong opening is kind of silly, but otherwise, this one just fucking rips with fantastic service from all members. Just a lovely little hop of a jaunt with some meaty bass. Heartbreaker into Living Loving Maid is a classic transition. Ramble On is yet another classic jam, which is followed up by Moby Dick containing one of my favorite drum solos on record. Bring It on Home starts as a bluesy drawl, but taps that powderkeg of energy that Zeppelin is known for and truly brings the record on home. This is about as good as it gets for Zeppelin; love it all. 5 / 5.
no review needed
This album is classic Zeppelin. It gets weird, soft, hard, messy, and fun. I listened while blasting in the car so not many notes but a classic nonetheless. What Is and What Should Never Be is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs of all time.
I've got a whole lotta love for this album. In the words of Jack Black, sometimes you've just gotta let the Led out
5 AM - 10 PM
Obviously one of history's greatest pieces of art
Obviously.
It's always time to get to Led out
Solid through and through. Shout out to Willie Dixon
"If the sun refused to shine I would still be loving you. Moi.taims crumble to the sea There would still be you and me."
#158. Not a miss on here. This one's great start to finish. 5/5: fantastic
Ramble On. ATF.
Rocks like a motherfucker
Already heard. Awesome album. Next! :)
One of the best ever by the best band ever
So many incredible tracks on this album. But damn the second and third do absolutely nothing for me. Rounding up to a 5 because the others are so strong but yeah they don't belong on the record. Whole Lotta love, Heartbreaker, Ramble On and Moby Dick are unimpeachable
The band that got me interested in music! Even though some of the filler songs are average, whole lotta love, heartbreaker, or ramble on on their own would make this a five star album for me.
Any album that opens with one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time is an automatic 5.
Come on let's get the Led out! "Whole Lotta Love" has to be one of the greatest opening tracks on any rock album ever. What an exceptional song. Every member of this band is playing their asses off. Jimmy Page on "Heartbreaker", John Paul Jones on "Ramble On", John Bonham on 'Moby Dick", and Robert Plant on everything show why this is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. It just hits.
A great listen. I know it so well, of course, but sitting listening with headphones brought a big smile to my face. The bass! Fave tracks: whichever one I'm listening to at the time.
There are at least two Led Zeppelin albums I love even more but it's still a big 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ (5,8/6)
Certified classic.
One of their albums - one of many - that I could listen to any time. A little scattered in style.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Im not really into rock music, but the riffs and dynamics are excellent. Love how they strip things back to just drums and bass, never feeling like it’s straying into over-indulgence.
Ja annetaan olan takaa kerrassaan herkkua taas aijaijai.. Tänään oli viimeinen albumi jonka tulen arvostelemaan näiltä kavereilta. Packed with songs that define the Classic Rock genre
This is just top tier....even re-listening impartially. Easy 5 stars.
I see Zep, I give 5 stars
listened to this 100000 times now
This record is spotless. I keep starting to write which certain songs are incredible but honestly, it's all of them. I mean gtfo this is what I want all music to be like.
It's Led Zeppelin, I love them. They're one of the reasons I picked up a guitar.
9/10. Loved the pace change throughout the album. Instrumentally was awesome. Don’t love Robert Plant’s singing style over a full album or else it would have gotten 10/10.
My favorite LZ.
Yup
Inimitable
Ah! What a fine way to wake up on a Monday morning. I have too many memories tied to this album to give a fair assessment. For a long, long time, I would’ve told you there was no better album out there. This was my absolute favorite. And you know what, maybe it still is. It is today anyway. Everything hits just right here. Yes, there are blues ripoffs and yes, you can view all that as problematic. But here’s the truth - Howlin’ Wolf never did it as good as these guys.
They don’t make them—sequels—like they used to.
Love this album. Takes me back to many memories.
Hard to beat. I probably listened to this album 500 times in high school, so I'm biased. It's been a while, so I had forgotten about things that couldn't/shouldn't be said in 2024 (how do you get away with "She's Just a Woman" and "The Lemon Song" on the same album?), but these guys really were at their best here.
Great album. Couldn’t decide between 4 and 5 but ultimately went with 5. Only one or two songs I’d skip. Listened to a lot of zeppelin growing up. Love the combination of genres they were able to mix into their music. Classic.
Led Fucking Zeppelin. Great album. Great band.
A Monster classic from my youth! As a teen of the 70’s, this is what you blasted from your car Dolby stereo tape deck, or from your 3’ tall Speaker Lab 8’s in your dorm room! You had no chance of getting laid if you didn’t absolutely bow to this band. None. I’d love to ding this a star due to the plagiarism, their refusal to tour again, and The Lord of the Ring reference… but it’s too damn good! Dare I say it? Masterpiece? Hmmmmm.
Pretty amazing for the time. Very tight group of 4, who individually make so much noise.
Man...there's nothing else to say besides "What a band" Favorite track: What Is and What Should Never Be
One of the greatest albums ever
You know why
Can't sink the Zeppelin
This album is just perfect from top to bottom. Magical symbiosis of old American blues and heavy rock with a pinch of folky sounds. Whole Lotta Love and Ramble On are obvious hits but listening to the album now also made me rediscover brilliant songs like the blue-blooded Lemon Song (what a bassline) and Thank You (who knew they could do mellowy love songs too). It's just an absolute classic.
Well, hallelujah, it’s about time
Led Zeppelin's second album is more refined than their first but is still firmly set in the blues rock tradition. This album is notably heavier than their first, but also more dynamic. The musical range on this album is impressive, especially for a hard rock band. The most striking part of this album for me is the one, two, three punch of Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, and Ramble On. Those three songs really signal for me where the band is about to go with their more folk influenced Led Zeppelin III and blockbuster Led Zeppelin IV. The roots were present in their first album, but they really come into their own here.
Spotify put an ad between Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid. Splitting a double track is just wrong.
There's a reason these guys are so respected.
Absolute classic by one of the best to ever do it. The Mighty Guys absolutely tear it up; all four members at the height of their powers. If you had to play an alien one song to explain what rock’n’roll is, you could do far worse than Whole Lotta Love. Ramble On is one of my all-time favorites. I could mention every song on this classic.
Led Zeppelin II is such an epic album. I love "Thank you". 'It is a masterpiece, as all the band members can show their skills.
A damn classic. Not much I can say about this album that is already said.
Whole lotta love this album
Great
In pure Spinal Tap fashion, I once had an image in my mind of Zeppelin performing 'Ramble On' in an old auditorium with a toilet bolted to the center of the stage. ..Stay with me.. So the band starts playing. You can hear Rober Plant singing, but he can't be seen. It is later discovered that he is under the stage on a lift, which slowly pushes him up through a hole where the toilet sits. By the time the song is closing, Plant is singing "doo de doo de doo de" as his head is sticking out of the toilet. Despite the self-absorbed, hedonistic, butt rock and some questionable lyricism, I dig this album and I dig this band. The grooves and riffs are absolutely crushing. I really enjoyed coming back to this after some time.
My favorite 1001 so far!
01) Whole Lotta Love - 10,0 02) What Is and What Should Never Be - 10,0 03) The Lemon Song - 9,5 04) Thank You - 10,0 05) Heartbreaker - 9,5 06) Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman) - 9,0 07) Ramble On - 9,5 08) Moby Dick - 8,0 09) Bring It On Home - 9,0 TOTAL: 9,39 (94/100) Another five stars for Zeppelin. It seems I have a whole lotta love for them.
I'm familiar with this album already, and it's excellent. With LZ's first record, the band said, "Here's what we've got." With their sophomore record, the band said, "No, seriously. This is what we've got." And what they've got is absolutely legendary. Nine near-faultless hard-rock/blues tracks, performed with unparalleled energy and stadium-shaking riffs. Unlike their first record, this setlist works very well both as a live performing set and a high-production album showcase. All four musicians are working in sync with each other, the musical ideas (especially for 1969) are pretty groundbreaking, and the songs are incredibly catchy. Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker (paired with Living Loving Maid), Ramble On, The Lemon Song, Bring it On Home... I can't give enough positive feedback on these tracks. The weakest track, Moby Dick, is still a powerful, hard-hitting instrumental, with the low point being the slightly misguided drum solo that works better when performed live. The drums are so loud and solid that they sometimes audibly clip the sound. I'm guessing that was intentional, given how esteemed Page's production is.
Solid, probably only my 3rd favorite Zeppelin album, but far better then 90% of the other stuff we have seen from this list so far.
Not my favourite Zep album but it's still fantastic
One of the greatest hard rock albums.
Not my favorite Zeppelin album, but still an essential record.
Energy is killing
Well yeah, it's a masterpiece
Led Zeppelin is my favorite band and it’s justified. Their sound is so unique, they paved the way for what rock and roll is today Top tracks: Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Ramble On
OMG This the best Led Zepplin and I hadnt realized how old it is!
This brings back memories from my teen years, one of the best ever!
Fantastic.
BANGS!!
I bought this album 5 times, twice the lp (original release in 69 and again the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab edition. On 8 track and the original CD and the 2014 remastered CD.
I think IV is the best. But II has some ground shaking songs.
Blew my ass straight out
Fantastic album. Rocks so hard
Fantastic. Rocks hard
I liked this more as a whole then I thought. I know the classics, but damn solid album. I wouldn't call it perfect, but I cannot give it a 4/5
Bluesy Rock n Roll that demands to be turned up loud.
Top 10 album
One of my all timers.
moby dick siempre sera mi favorita de este allbum
Nothing but five-star bangers. Is this the best Zeppelin album?
My favorite Led Zeppelin album. Absolutely great!
It’s a classic - not much more to say!
Really enjoyed this album and would put it in again to cook/clean with and likely listen cover to cover. Didn’t realize who’s in the band.
Obra maestra!!
Listened - classic need to listen more often
This album is just classic songs up and down, not a bad song on this album. Whole lotta love opens the album with great guitars. The bass lines on What is and What Should Never Be are superb. Heartbreakers goes into Livin Lovin Maid so smoothly I previously thought it was all one song. Ramble On is another classic track with more Tolkien references, and Bring it on home is a great album finisher. Awesome
Absolute ripper
Incredible album and my first 5 stars given. Classics: Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Ramble On New Finds: What Is and What Should Never Be, Thank You, The Lemon Song
There's no argument: it's Led Zeppelin. The album combines blues, hard rock and folk, with a powerful, raw and experimental sound. Guitarist Jimmy Page shined with his memorable riffs, his virtuoso solos and his technical innovations, such as the use of the theremin or the violin bow. Singer Robert Plant demonstrated his expressive and versatile voice, with lyrics inspired by love, sex and literature. Bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham formed a solid and dynamic rhythmic foundation, which supported the complex song structures. It's one of my favorite groups
I've Listened to it, It's a Fantastic Album.
Top to bottom, phenomenal album. My favorite LZ album.
An absolute classic. A unique sound, masterful musicianship and creativity and it just rocks hard as hell. One of my favorites.
Best album ever! Every single song. Yowza.
I know this album like the back of my hand. It’s def a classic. Every song is perfect.
one of the greatest rock albums of all time. every track is a banger and it never loses its energy and artistic talent. Led Zeppelin will go down as the greatest rock band ever. 'nuff said
This album pretty much presents a relentless string of great music we may not need the drum solo in Moby Dick but it is a very small price to pay for everything that comes before it.
One of the best rock albums of all time, set the precedent for essentially every rock and metal album in existence after it. Jimmy Page's guitar work is imperious, Robert Plant's voice is as raw as ever and lyrically he's brilliant, Bonham's drumming is perfection, and John Paul Jones is metronomic as always. Has this live feel that I don't think many - if any - other albums can match. About as close to perfect as a rock album can be.
What can you say? Sometimes you have to get the Led out.
A classic.
Fun, upbeat music.
Favorite
Great stuff! One of my favorite bands
Only the best album ever recorded by the greatest band ever to play
Slow and chill. Good rock
1/5/24. There's not much to say, rock & roll perfection. Still sounds incredible to this day.
Excellent album - loved every song. I don’t know why Zep is so special, they just are. It’s not any one thing but everything on the album.
Great classic Rock album! Page is a master!
Fundamental e com a virtude máxima de se manter colossal.
Two thumbs up.
Smells of candle wax and bong water. Seminal guitar work and arrangements.
Great
Wow
Excellent album de Led Zeppelin, rien à redire.
A beautiful masterpiece of classic rock music from absolute legends of their era! Hit after hit after hit. The best!
Super gitarki. 5/5
100/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Led Zeppelin's entire discography is almost perfect. The people who did not give this 5 stars will be the first against the wall when my reign begins.
An absolute classic!
Its fantastic
Robert Plant’s penis so so big *how big is it?!* The other LED Zeppelin members used to use it to play double dutch
I've listened to this one a million times going all the way back to my sophomore year of high school when I first heard Led Zeppelin for the first time. By the next school year, Zeppelin became and continues to be my favorite musical act of all time. Listening to "Whole Lotta Love" for the first time while listening to headphones was a surreal experience.
Si this is really when Zeppelin becomes the band that takes over the world. The first album is just not quite as confident.
Those drums!
Man, I forgot how great this album is. Dare I say that I may even be my favorite Zeppelin record?
Third garbage album in a row! This is the first album I ever bought with my own money. Best $5.99 I ever spent. Never gets old. 10,000 out of five. Last thing: listen to Plant screaming \"GO AWAY HEARTBREAKERRRRR!\" at the end of that song, then we can talk about Robert Plant, okay?
I'll relisten to this in a bit but just to get it out of the way- WE LOVE YOU LED ZEPPELIN II!!! Singlehandedly got me through several months of high school. And college. And adult life. My favorites are Whole Lotta Love (duh), Heartbreaker (duh), Ramble On (duh), and Bring It On Home (that's MY song!!!!). The rest are all so good that it felt bad not including them. I will say that The Lemon Song is less appealing to me now that I'm 26 and not 15 but! Still hits. Sexy ass album. Sorry.
Bluesy, Rock, Surreal, Psychedelic? That's just Whole Lotta Love! It's full of changes, edge of the seat stuff. The guitar riffs *chef's kiss*. Self indulgent to the extreme
Rockin
Mitt stöff. Elska svona tónlist. Get hlustað endalaust á hana. Mér finnst aðrar Led Zeppelin plötur betri en þessi byrjar bara svo æðislega.
It took me longer to get into Led Zep 2 than any of their other albums, and I’ve never been entirely sure why. I love Led Zeppelin, I mean everyone does, but when I was growing up, my family had albums like Presence playing in the background all the time. That was the soundtrack to my childhood. But I never remember having listened to Led Zeppelin II before a few years ago when I first started getting into music actively. And as I said, it took me a while for it to click. But when it did… My god, this album is good. It is amazing how solid the band sounds, how foundational. It is an interpretation of the blues that is very rooted in Britain in the late 60’s, but it sounds as if it’s been around forever. Fuck Smoke on the Water, Whole Lotta Love is the first riff everyone should learn. There was a world without Whole Lotta Love at some point, I almost can’t believe it. I’m gushing, I’m sorry. And it’s only gonna get worse when I come to Zeppelin’s other albums, because I love those even more!
Easily a 5.
Whole fucking album is amazing!
My favorite Led Zeppelin album. Nothing has ever made me wish that I was a teenager in the 70s more than this album, except maybe for Dazed and Confused. Robert Plant’s voice is so soulful. The nerd in me always loved the Lord of the Rings reference in Ramble On. Thank you is such a great fucking ballad. I die.
Mostly anything Robert Plant touches is incredible. Ramble On is sublime.
get the led out!!!
Amazing, So many songs that I grew up listening to from my parents. I added many yo my standard playlist
I listened to this album 100x or more as a teenager. I don't listen to Zeppelin anymore, but it is still a great album.
Five stars, no doubt
Perfection
Didn't expect to get another Led Zeppelin album so soon after my first one on this list, and once again this album is absolutely fantastic. It is such a good showcase of the 4 members' skills and abilities.
Classic rock at it's finest.
Hot take: LZs II and III are better than I and IV
what can I even say about this album. the whole thing just goes from to back. I’m in love with the drums, how they fill up the space and provide each song with such heft and bounce. the mixing especially is so good. It is not clean, which I wouldn’t have preferred, it is raw and the guitars are distorted. It sound so big yet it keeps that it’s coming straight out of a small garage. I’ll also mention the bass on this album is fantastic. It’s a strong 4 to a 5. The only song I’m not too keen on is living loving maid. Favs are - the lemony song, thank you, heartbreaker
Brilliant album, loved it! Brought back some good memories too :)
Fantastic classic rock
Wat een riffs, wat een nummers, perfect album
Just pure excellence. Favorite track: Bring It On Home
Led me tell you my feelings I have for this album. I only have a Whole Lotta Love so Thank You for Bringing It On Home with this pick. Definitely not a Heartbreaker. I’ll just Ramble On now.
Hard to argue against any of this.
Heavy riff - Hey hey baby baby - Heavier riff - Unexpected love song - Really dirty riff - Drum solo?! Riff 5*
One of the best albums ever! 5/5
Truly a classic. There isn’t a bad song on the album.
Best Zeppelin album ever
Now I know that and LZ III are such classics
They’re one of the pillars of rock and roll for a reason, still holds up to this day. 5/5 (9/10)
Perfection
Top 3 Led Zeppelin albums. One of the best in rock
A classic
a classic that still holds up.
I was listening to this album so hard I forgot to form an opinion. 5 stars.
Game changer for the next ten years
Ran the loop in the fall woods with golden sun. Thought of my dad listening to them for the first time. Kept steps with the band. Happiness.
Great album. Great band.
When I was 7 my auntie emigrated to Australia and left me all her LPs. This and Abbey Road were my favourites. Quite simply one of the greatest in this genre. Unmatched in intensity or virtuousity.
Heerlijk.
John Bonam is awesome
I love this album so much. Perfect blend of blues and rock and it takes me right back to the 70s.
There's simply not a single bad song on this album. I don't even listen to Led Zeppelin much beyond the hits, and even then this is going to be the first 5 star rating I've given so far.
5 star hands down. Great mix of hard and acoustic rock. Bluesy and mellow, while fist-pumping and head banging.
Even with minor missteps like “Thank You”(lovely but inconsequential) or “Moby Dick” (excellent musicianship but lacking something without the visual element of Bonham attacking the kit), Led Zeppelin II proves that the group’s proto-metal bombast wasn’t just a fluke. Every element is harmonious and hard-hitting.
Vinilazo.
Thsi is one of the best albums in the history of rock. 5/5
If you ever wanted to hear a grown man get pegged in the ass after taking two tabs of acid, then I have a song for you- “Whole Lotta Love.” I got major whiplash going from the first song to the second. At times I felt like he was preaching to me about our lord and savior- baby Jesus. This was a perfect album to end the 60’s era with. Loved the drum solo in “Moby Dick.” I was really enjoying the trippy blues intro in “Bring It on Home” and then BAM!!!! Slapped me so hard across the face that Chris Rock shuttered to himself alone in his mansion. Overall 9/10, will listen to again.
Please join me in welcoming the newest fan of Led Zeppelin. “Whole Lotta Love” I started out jamming to but suddenly I was in a bad acid trip in the middle of the song (Remastered version). I guess that Pink Floyd style of random noises really was popular during this era. I found myself liking the (Rough Mix with vocal) version more. The opening bassline and harmonica in “Bring It on Home” was extremely pleasant to the ears. 9/10
Robert Plant sings from his balls. Whole lotta love goes from a nice rock song to acid trip real fast and back to rock song just as fast. The second song on the album that has a title that is too long to type out but by the point I have written this have written more words than the song title because I am just rambling on is a banger. The juxtaposition of the guitar solos being at a much faster tempo than the rest of the song on The Lemon Song was fantastic. Thank You is a fucking ballad banger. Ramble On is the best Lord of The Rings song ever created. Moby Dick has a drum solo that will edge you to completion. Bring It on Home brings it on home with a bluesy intro into a hard rock jam. I was hit with melancholic emotion every time a song ended because I wanted more. 10/10
I love most tracks. To me there are one or two duds, but overall rollicking good music.
A classic. Haven't listened to this in many years. I loved getting back into it
Rock on garth
One of the best heavy blues rock albums. Led Zepplin may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love 'em. Not my favorite of their stand-alone records, but this is still just wonderful to listen to.
No doubt this is in the top of all time. A band that borrowed the Blues, for sure, but made it great in this set of songs.
4.7.
right up there with top 20 albums of all time
I mean c'mon it's Zeppelin II.
Outstanding...one of the best rock albums of all time
A classic but not what I’m here for. Hoping for some undiscovered gems. No whammies no whammies no whammieeeeeees
Legendary.
A sexual experience (not gay)
Yeah, this shit rips. I’ve heard this album so many times over the years and the individual tracks played over and over my whole life, and it still rips. I think what really makes it hold up as a timeless classic is the swagger and confidence exuding from every instrument and vocal performance. They sell the hell out of every track with a huge, heavy sound. Thinking of this being recorded at the same time as Abbey Road is a lot of fun because it really drives home how this record really began as counterculture but was SO GOOD it just turned into the mainstream. Anyway, I’ve got lots of thoughts, long story short is this isn’t just great for the time but actually holds up and still sounds cool as hell. Four funky white boys playing the Blues, and they made it sound great. Fun to revisit!
Honestly, not my genre, but it’s such a great album for the time. It’s less interesting that Black Sabbath in my opinion, but it does exactly what it should and does it better than anyone else in the era could
Awesome….this is a classic album.
GOAT album
Iconic!! Whole Lotta Love for this album!
This experience went along something like this: “Oh thats what that song is called?” “Wow how do I know every song on here?” “How is this album going by so fast?”
Pleasant rock music, easy to listen to. Incredible guitar work!
I am familiar with this album.
Classic album
4.5
Pretty much perfect.
Do i really need to explcain why this album is a 5/5?
It doesn't get more classic than this.
6/9, 67%
I absolutely love this album. It’s been a long time since I listened to it. An all timer!
classic
Easy 5*, close second to IV. Timeless!
Great album
Just amazing start to finish
