Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Has some of the feel of mid-period Roxy Music but less cheesy and significantly more weird, and instead of Bryan Ferry on vocals it's... Kate Bush, I guess.

I always feel bad that I don't like Kate Bush more. 😞

This album is hit and miss compared to Kick Inside and Hounds of Love. Overall it is a good album but it just didn't capture my heart

Pleasant. Interesting lyrics on “Deeper Understanding.” This is the same woman who wrote a song about having sex with a snowman.

Solid 3.5/5. I’ve not listened to any Kate Bush outside of Stranger Things last summer. I’ve loaded up Hounds of Love (1985) to check out next.

Hmmm, so Kate Bush bias made me start at 4 but actually it sounded quite similar (and similar to Hounds of Love) with no stand out tracks, apart from the last one

6/10. Not entirely sure what to think about it. I could see myself liking it more if I heard it again

Found this okay, made for nice bg listening, enjoyed Love and Anger the most.

Meh, decent enough but nowhere near as good compared to hounds of love

Solid 3.5 stars for this one -- definitely want to give it another listen, sounds way ahead of it's time with some 80's undertones but a lot else going on. Pleasant surprise!

It’s fine. A few good tracks. 3/5 Standout: This Women’s Work

2 this is a little boring A womans work is really great though 3

Its got "this womans work" on it, and thats a song that everyone should experience. Other than that, though, meh. 3/5

Mi piace molto 'Deeper Understanding' il resto mi pare molto Cyndi Lauper

Very pretty but def needs another listen to get into it. Vibes: 2 Voice: 5 Vibration (music/instrumental): 3

It’s fine

This wasn't what I was expecting the album to sound like going into it, but it's okay. I like some of the themes and ideas that the songs tackle. The problem is I like these ideas more than I like the sound of the song. My favourite song was This Woman's Work. Almost every other song kind of sounded the same.

uno de los disco esencia de kate bush y muy importante para la continuidad del art pop fav songs: the fog this woman's work 3 sinceramente no me vuela y medio me irrita la voz

There's a lots of Celtic influences here by this time but I miss the raw passion and inventiveness in her early work. It's too assured and well produced with a host of 'guest appearances' from famous friends. It's like a cosy little club but there's no pressure. It's good but bland apart from This Woman's work.

Sounds very like Lorde, which they would probably both be happy with! Not especially catchy, but very pleasant and atmospheric

Was good. I only like the first track tho.

Not bad. Didn’t love it.

How lucky are we to be on our third KB album! I'd say she is one of the big wins of this thing, I barely knew about her prior and know I have a list of my favorite songs. Some more coming from this album including Reaching Out. She really is a fantastic artist. You can see her style on every album but each feels different in its own way.

First real time listening to Kate Bush, other than Running Up That Hill. I had read somewhere that you either love or hate Kate Bush. I’m not sure I’d go that strong either way, but I could probably leave her based on this.

Love Kate Bush, hadn't listened to this album before. It was very 80's, even for her! Still loved the instrumental flourishes here and there. Very solid album.

This is the third Kate Bush album I've gotten on here and I've grown to appreciate her. I'm not a huge fan or anything, but you have to admit that she's incredibly unique in both instruments, vocals, and lyrics. I really enjoyed the chorus of backing vocals on two of the tracks. Favorite tracks: "Love and Anger", "Deeper Understanding"

Hits: Love the pace and beat of Love and Anger. Her voice on Reaching Out is so powerful. Shits: The Fog. Blahhh to just slow, boring, and creepy with the "you're all grown up now" repeating. I just hate it. First half of this album is way better than the back 9. Vibe: I'd like to explore more of what she's done. She clearly deserves a closer look. Cool that stranger things is giving her a second life, especially since Madonna has eschewed her throne and transformed into a greasy alien blowup doll.

Decent Not much variety

This was definitely in my parent's CD collection but it didn't seem to get much of a spin, unlike other Kate Bush albums. I guess it's because, outside of the heavenly This Woman's Work, there isn't anything really outstanding on here. I enjoyed it though. The title track, Rocket's Tail and Walk Straight Down The Middle all caught my attention, while Deeper Understanding seems to be about forming an emotional dependence on computers - how very ahead of its time.

It might need more listens, but that isn't going to happen

This was alright. It was kind of boring and repetitive, but it was not terrible.

Wasn’t great.

There's a lot of pretty pleasant music here, but it much of the beginning of the album seems somewhat listless. It isn't until the end, Never Be Mine and Rocket's Tail that it amps up with passion and energy. This Woman's Work is strong as well.

Didn't click with me as strongly as Hounds of Love. Still pretty good. Might need a few more listens. 6/10

I found Kate Bush’s “The Sensual World” pretty tolerable. I point this out because I found “The Dreaming” pretty intolerable and didn’t really like “Hounds of Love” either. Maybe I was just in a sensual mood? “This Woman’s Work” was the best song on the album, but in general it seems like the music may have fit Bush’s high-pitched vocals that I didn’t care for on the other albums. So I’ll say “The Sensual World” is Bush’s best, and belongs on the list, but I still think “The Dreaming” should be replaced by Tori Amos.

Overall a very grandiose record, especially with the string sections throughout and Kate's ethereal voice. The title track was a little hot & heavy to be listening to at work, but the subject matter of the rest of the album twists and transforms, never really knowing what you'll get next. I can see how Kate Bush was popular, but its not something that I'd reach out to listen to on the regular. Best: Love and Anger Worst: Between a Man and a Woman

ehhh it was okay? i don’t have much to comment on it lolol it was just totally meh? she has ok voice and ok music.

My first experience with Kate Bush was her cover of "Rocket Man" for the Elton John tribute album. This kind of turned me off to her. So going in, I felt her voice was a little too... breath-y? I don't know if that really bes describes it, but that's where I was. That really is best heard in the title track. But as the album went on, I began to appreciate her vocal more and more. The instrumentation really helped as well (Karn's bass work was solid throughout). By the time I got to the last track, the piano / vocals really worked. I'm still not a huge fan, but I liked the album for what it was.

Ah yes, Kate Bush - that annoying voice singing Don't Give Up in the Peter Gabriel duet. Feels like such an 80's thing to promote or adore females artists with unique high-pitched voices - Bush, Bjork, even Cyndi Lauper. I actually enjoyed the album more than I thought I would. She's a pretty good lyricist. The musical accompaniment was sometimes good sometimes not. Love and Anger, Reaching Out, Deeper Understanding, Never Be Mine, and This Woman's Work (my favorite) were particularly memorable or captivating. So all the even-numbered songs. I guess the first song (title track) was memorable but I didn't like it as much as the other five. I feel like I was creeping up to 3.5 but couldn't get over the hump.

Rating: 6/10

Strange choice, not even in the top 3 Kate Bush albums

A lot of people whose tastes I generally trust are way into Kate Bush. Idk if I'm sold yet. This was pretty good, maybe a bit slower than 80s music I normally like

not bad bushy kate

I liked this. There seemed like a lot more substance to the songs compared to the other previous Kate Bush album we had. Probably need to hear it a few times to really click

Not one of the best Kate Bush's albums, but it is still nice.

Its a nice enough Album and Kate always has a lovely voice but there is nothing stand out her.

Pop tranquilo con buena voz aguda. Intimista.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. A bit slow, but "Rocket Tail" was a bop!

I never got the buzz about this album. I adore The Kick Inside (1978), The Dreaming (1982) and Hounds of Love (1985), but this is just a bit mediocre to me. Kate Bush standards of course. The songs are ok to good, but the performance and production is uninteresting. "This Woman's Work" is nothing on this album while the Maxwell cover of this song is one of the best song covers ever.

Some are kinda weird. Some are sweet. I don't really feel strongly either way. (A shocker, I'm sure by this point)

Pop suavecín. Ni fu ni fa.

the fog is a decent track, vocals seem far back, might be how they sound on the ssp, bit flat on the HD559 as expected. This womens work is a nice track, great piano backing to very strong vocals 5/10

Not a bad album but not my fave Kate Bush album.

Less than the sum of its parts. You could cherry pick the better songs but as a whole it disappoints.

not my style, but I can see why people could enjoy it

didn't like

Very eclectic production. I love the opening/title track (though I’ve always been a sucker for bag pipes), followed by heavy metal guitar in the second track. The Trio Bulgarka are a nice addition to the songs they appear in and Kate isn’t afraid to use all of her voice. The production of the more up-tempo numbers has aged a bit. I don't find the the song writing as strong as Hounds of Love, or maybe it just lacks a blockbuster hit.

Not bad, probably wouldn't listen again

Alright as background music

Not one of my favs of hers. Too AC maybe?

Gaat een beetje langs me heen.

very good mix between the 80's and the tribal touch. but not my style

Album cover is very 80’s and she looks like Liza Minnelli. It’s a shittier version of that Pat Benatar song for the second track. After listening further, the violins and piano are pretty cool and it serves as good background music.

interesting eclectic sound. Enjoyable and can appreciate her impact.

Ganz cool, aber mir bissel zu eso…

trim your bush everyone! also this was whatever album

Fine, but not for me

Not a bad listen and maybe better the second time. Broad emotional range but less vocal variety. Needs to be listened to loud to catch the lyrics. This woman’s work, love and anger and let’s of Rockets tail are highlights.

good, not the most exciting

I really wanted to like this album more. I like Kate Bush's hits, love her whack sense of well everything, but this just didn't come together for me. It all seemed to drone on the same.

Some amazing songs (Sensual World, This Woman's Work) and other interesting Bush songs.

80's kitch mixed with amazing, lavish and self indulgent production. Enjoyed the listen but probably won't revisit.

I liked this album a lot more than i thought I would. It's definitely epic and beautiful. I could find her voice a little annoying at times.

Breathy pop with orchestral aspirations. Kate Bush has a lovely voice, and I have friends who sing her praises, but just not my cup of tea.

I think this album was Ok, but I was pretty bored. I might like it more after multiple listens

2nd Kate Bush album in 3 days. This was much better than The Dreaming, but that's not saying much since I absolutely abhorred The Dreaming. So this was a breath of fresh air when it comes to Kate Bush albums. Still not my cup of tea, but at least it was listenable.

I'm pretty sure Björk listened to a lot of Kate Bush before her debut. The lilting of Kate's voice the sparse and strange electronic production, even early mentions of computers. It's not Hounds of love though. This album doesn't have much beyond "This is Woman's Work" which is a great track. But it comes too late.

Powerful lyrics and a powerful voice. This woman knows how to rock a song and rock a crowd. She would be incredible live!

this was a nice change. once again, not a huuuge fan of her work, but the title track in particular was really surprising. i liked it, but i was also ready for it to be over when it ended.

I was waiting the Kate Bush album. This one was not for me.

I want to like Kate Bush more than I do, and I have tried to get into her music in the past. It just doesn't stick to me, like I can't relate or something. I do appreciate the uniqueness of the music here though, the experimental nature of the vocals and instrumentation.

achei a sonoridade legal mas a voz enjoa

Never Be Mine is really good

Again, I wanna like Kate Bush more than I do. A few nice tracks on here but... I wish I liked it more.

Sounds very of its time

very cool record.

Weird vibes forsure, took too long to review it and dont remember much. Had 0 expectations though and I feel like it surpassed them.

Okay listening, not for me though

Very ethereal, but none of her best songs are here.

I checked my phone without my glasses and thought the song Reaching Out was called Researching Owl. Strange name for a song but remember, this is the artist that barked for most of the song Hounds of Love, so who knows. I propose on the next edition of the book, give one or two of Kate Bush's three slots to Sarah McLachlan. Similar-ish enough and it would save all of our ears some wear and tear.

Wish I could give it 2.5 but i was just straight up not interested in this. Sounded like a 41 min long song so points for continuity

This one was a miss for me.

Talented as she may be, this album is missing the fun of her earlier more eager to experiment albums leaving us with nothing but well constructed adult contemporary boredom.

sounds so old and unique you can just feel the old vibe omdsss, the sensual worlddddd

I really didn't like this!

I’m really not sure about this album, no real highlights here for me, a bit boring

Not for me

its really dreamy but not really my shit

Dosta loš album meni osobno, iako volim nju inače. Definitivno not her best work. 2/5, 3/10

Not very good. Her voice is not my cuppa.

Another one that just washed over me unfortunately.

Rating: ★★ It's alright. not my style of music. random AH mention for some reason. otherwise, just some 80s piano pop that I find a little too slow for it to catch my attention in a way that makes me want to listen. she has an interesting way of singing.

now why in the world would this be the kate bush album on the list ??

Music for grown ups. That's equally a compliment and an insult

I can get behind the musical talent. But also garbage to me

Oh no. More Kate Bush. No. This is as painful as I feared. Reaching out… for that star that explodes… and ends this. God, that would have prevented Heads We’re Dancing. Man, so much talent, so much productive effort, such a voice, and a result that…is awful. I mean I should give it a 3 for effort… but I don’t want to. Unless something better happens this gets a 2. And at the end the best thing I can say about it is that it did, in fact, end. Boolean: no. One Kate Bush album is enough representation. I believe there are three. No. No.

Meh. Not my bag.

I’ve tried, but I really don’t like Kate Bush and this is the worst of the lot. I really don’t like her over the top vocals. However, she is doing something different than a lot of the rest of her contemporaries which is a plus in her column.

1. uuorld - 2 2. anger -1 3. fog - 2 4. out - 2 5. dancing - 1 6. deeper - 2 7. man - 2 8. never - 2 9. tail - 2 10. uuork - 2

I dont get it

Pretty boring.

I think I heard Wuthering Heights when I was a kid and thought Kate Bush was the worse singer I'd heard (sorry Bjork). Then, Stranger Things came along and I got to hear it all again. This one wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. She had some good moments earlier in the album. But by the end of it... I wasn't THAT impressed. You lose your title that 12 year old me handed out. 2 Stars L

Just not for me. She is very talented, but just sings music I don't enjoy much. 2/5 Won't listen again

A better version of Madonna's Ray of Light, which I hated. Lacking some running up hills

sensual baby voice kills me. I understand it's a coming-of-age album but for having no bangers, no levity, and no growth its a 2 star for me dawg.

On paper I should love it : an angelic voice, innovative music that experiments with all kinds of arrangements, a creative artist who writes her own texts and music, an interesting guestlist... But for some reason I can't explain, it always feels a bit off, like it's constantly hovering on the edge of greatness without ever taking the last step. There's a lot of good ideas and elements here, but the music never fully coalesces into something that transcends the sum of its parts. Maybe it's still too close to 80s pop music, too quiet, not wild enough to really excite me. I was curious for a couple of songs, then I started losing interest, and by the end of the album I was mostly bored. Rocket's Tail is pretty much the only song I loved, but it was too little, too late - and it was immediately followed by the kind of song I typically have zero interest in. I tried to find reasons to bump it to a 3*, but I'm pretty sure I'll never listen to this again. 4/10

Sorry, Dad - this wasn’t doing it for me

Goes alright. Quite the iconic sound here, and no doubt significantly influential. High 2s.

One thing I have learnt from this project is that I am very particular with Bush. This Bush was not for me.

I think Kate Bush is America’s Bjork. If that makes sense. Sort of all over the place vocals, general ethereal pop stuff going on. Nothing really grabbed me, unfortunately. It wasn’t overly bad and it’s a competently made album. Just wasn’t my taste.

I preferred the Hounds of Love over this one. It probably has a lot to do with the production which is the worst of 80s era in my opinion.

Næææ

Her voice is a little annoying for me i’m sorry.

Been a while since I spun some Kate Bush…I still like it but it’s just not hitting like it used to…mood has a big effect on listening . This would have been a solid 3-3.5 before

I'm sorry Kate, I really like a lot of Hounds of Love, but I found this album to be generally uninteresting with a really flat mix that did not emphasize any particular instrument/vocal. The resulting music just sounded compressed and very stagnant. Some good moments and I love her voice, but overall not impressed. 2.4/5 -> 2/5

Yeah, it was just okay. Good sound and whatever, but all the songs kind of blended together for me. I'm on the second song of the second playthrough and didn't even realize it started over.

No thanks

Pretty rough one, definitely did not get it

These are decent pop songs and she can certainly sing very well. I understand the appeal, but like I've said before, it's just not really my wheelhouse.

4/10… sophisty pop / witchy / *1989

I get why people would like it, but this is just not for me, barely a 2.

Everything sounds so weird and echoey, I respect the solidarity but it's not for me

My god, right off the bat the title track sucks. This album is terrible. Stranger Things got this one wrong. If Kate Bush was messing around on her computer in 1989 she was either a huge nerd, a total perv or one of the richest kings of Europe. This album is terrible, every song sounds just different enough to remind you how terrible all the other ones were. And her voice is so distinctive it actually plays against her because it makes everything sound like "Generic Kate Bush Song". I will give her credit, the album ends on the two best songs.

I only know her from Stranger Things. Not my kind of music, but big ups to her!

Cool arrangements, I like the Celtic fusion. Her voice don't really do it for me though. Decent as an art piece, insofar as any creative endeavour constitutes "art". It's no Sistine Chapel.

Reaching Out kind of slaps. Otherwise, too mellow for me.

The album creates an interesting soundscape that I think may make it works as an ambient, mediative album, and Ms. Bush has a pleasant voice. For lack of a better description, the little vocal trills she does are cute and distinctive. I'd like to give ithe album at least a three for quality, but unfortunately I don't see myself ever returning to this album because as a whole I don't find it that interesting or moving.

Honestly? I did not like this and it was a struggle to get through. This particular brand of weird and airy and meandering did not work for me. There's certainly talent there and I get how this could be a 5 for some people...but it ain't for me. 1.8

A bit boring until the amazing closer.

I was previously only familiar with Kate Bush through her association with David Gilmour, and not with any of her material. Sure enough, Gilmour plays guitar on two tracks of this album. Honestly, I did not really care for this. His guitar parts, minimal as they are, are the most redeeming part of this album for me. I find her voice to be very whiny and I don't really care for the arrangements of most of the songs. I was glad to hear Gilmour's guitar parts, but don't intend to listen to this album again.

Not for me. 80s tropes dripping with “sensuality.”

Another mediocre entry by our girl Kate. Can't knock her for having a distinct sound, but I can knock her for have a lackluster sound. I feel like all of her albums have had one bright spot. Rocket's Tail might have been the best song here. Maybe her best album of the 3 that we have had.

Went 2.5 years without getting a Kate Bush album, thought we were free but alas she sneaks up on us again with only 30 albums to go. This is pretty much status quo for Kate Bush, her high pitch singing is pretty brutal on the ears at some points. I think this is probably her best of the 3 albums on here because it was at least normal music. In no way is it a 3 but probably a mid to high 2

I was really not loving Love and Anger and then the end just blended super well together. The Fog is a strange one, but the strings are pretty nice. Beginning of Rocket's Tail was a lot and then it dropped into a sick David Gilmour solo. Lot of meh here with some solid moments. High 2 debated going 3.

Not our bag, baby

2.5 - interesting album but got tired of it by the end

my dog understands the high pitched drone better than I do. never really saw the appeal..the kick and lionheart were ok but ........

Didn't care for this one

Kate Bush made a lot of iconic songs, none of which are on this album...

Not my favorite. No really stand out songs for me, and very same same.

Kate Bush is a bit like David Bowie - massively respected, but I just don’t get why and cannot enjoy their music. She has done the odd good tune, Wuthering Heights, Man With A Child In His Eyes for example, but there is nothing on this album (no, not even This Woman’s Work) and if given the choice of listening to this or nothing, I’ll take nothing, thanks.

Doesn't appeal much to me - her voice is pretty but the songs feel a bit disconnected

Not my vibe. I won’t be rushing to listen to the album again, but I didn’t hate it.

Not for me.

Anytime I hear something from Kate Bush, it seems like it was written for a movie of TV show. It's like she's begging to feel emotion in her songs, but unfortunately, I don't really feel it listening to her music. I think the first songs were good but then I zoned out until my favorite song on the album and last one, This Woman's Work. I think she has a great voice and at times I thought she sounded like Cindi Lauper. I do like more than a few tunes by Cindi, so that's a good thing. If anything, listening to this album last couple times and letting the genre play, I've gain more appreciation for The Sugarcubes album. OK, but a little slow and boring for this listener. 2.5

I didn’t listen closely enough to determine whether this was bad enough to be a 1 but what I did hear sounded pretty bad.

1.8 There cant be 1 kid nowadays that would listen to this and really get into it.

Das ist mir zu langatmig.

Not my jam

Boring

Not for me

This was mostly uneventful. It just played in the background while I worked. Nothing moved me to pull it up and see what was playing, except for Rocket's Tail. 2.5

No standouts

Dramatic synth

# Playlist Track - The Sensual World # Notes - Kate Bush's vocals are pretty great, but the tracks on this one are not. Couple of cool tracks, plus a few forgettable ones and one or two bad ones. Go listen to something else.

It's not even on this album

I didn't do this album justice and literally skimmed the tracks because I ran out of patience. I appreciate her sound, but you really need to be in that mood to enjoy it.

Not something I'd seek out, but I didn't mind listening through once

2.5 out of 5 I’ve always liked Kate Bush. The lyrics and tone, the music and themes. I think if she sang a cappella I’d hate it but who knows. This was a decent album with cool synthwave vibes that didn’t drown it in “80s”. I like Kate for about 5 minutes. This was more than 5 minutes.

Is this a British list of the Top 1001? This would never make an American T1001. One "big" hit with "This Woman's Work" which is more of an anthem and a well covered song than an actual hit. It never made much of an impact on 1989 US radio. This was drivel, not my thing, overly theatrical and drowning in unnecessary string arrangements and wispy fairy vocals. I actually hated it. It sounds like music from a original cast Broadway production more than a pop album. Is it conceptual? I missed the message and couldn't get past the boredom of these wandering nothing songs. I literally couldn't finish a single song. Every song has well over 1M listens with "TWW" clocking in with 75M, so someone is gobbling this crap up. 2 stars and I'm being kind.

Not for me. Sorry Kate.

Felt like this whole album was on the verge of being a hit but just nothing landed.

I have never really got the Kate Bush thing.

Assorted noise. Not for me.

It was fine. I knew A Woman’s Work. I like her weird voice.

When your pop music is too boring just call it Art and Voilà, a masterpiece. Everyone who disagrees is just uneducated in the fine arts. it's not unlistenable but boring background music that sound similar from start to finish. At least Gilmour saves a bit of it with his solos

it doesn't hit for me, but i can tell this is good

Lovely instrumentation-wise, but a little too …,strange? … for me.

Great voice, but wandering and a bit boring overall.

Great singer, but the album is not very good. Her other work is much better

Not a bad album it’s just nothing really stood out for me.

Glad Kate Bush is there for the people who really love her. I am not one of them.

Didn't vibe with it, just felt really cringe-y.

Musically, there are some interesting instrumental passages here and there but no single song could truly be called compelling. The record loads on layers of orchestration but all of the instrumental color can't compensate for the unfocused, meandering material. Also, Bush's thin, airy voice generally needs as much production help as possible to have an impact, but the weird mix on this record goes in the other direction, practically disconnecting her voice from the instrumental backing.

She’s got the voice. Glad her world is sensual. For me… shes more of a cold shower.

2+ Stars (6/15)

Personally, as someone who has never listened to a full album of hers, I thought her music leaned into the new wave era of the eighties. However, to my disappointment, this album pushed against my assumptions and made an artisty pop album. While the album is quite beautiful and captures her vibe well, god, it's dull. I can see why someone would be interested in this album, but not for me!

Hard to get into this one. Nothing really stuck. Unfortunately, not for me.

boring

no es mi estilo musical favorito

# 550 : The Sensual World by Kate Bush: The Sensual World – Sensual, Sure. But Mostly Snoozy. Kate Bush returns with another dreamy 80s soundscape that’s relaxing, charming, and creative… which is a polite way of saying “a bit boring.” It’s extremely of its time and extremely Kate Bush—which isn’t a crime, just not five-star material. “The Fog” is the best track, but even that feels like it’s trying to remember what excitement sounds like. The whole album is pleasant enough, but if this is essential listening, then maybe the bar for “essential” needs a serious review. Verdict: Not bad, just not all that. Sensual? Maybe. Memorable? Not really. If you have to listen to this, look out for: The Fog Listened: 21/08/2025

First half was hard on the ears. Some redeeming melodies in the second half kept this from getting 1 star

Two Kate Bush albums within a couple weeks. Starting to lose faith in the random generator.

I always want to like Kate Bush, but then I listen and I just don’t.

Kate Bush’s music isn’t for me.

It’s not for me, this.

A little Kate Bush goes a long way.

Boring. Stopped listening after 3 or 4 tracks. Don’t drag the eighties out more than necessary

Very 1980s sounding. A lot of separation between tracks. Peter Gabriel vibe. She has a great voice but it gets buried in the mix too much. Glad I listened. Probably wouldn’t again.

Interesting in spots but just doesn’t have anything memorable about any particular track. 2/5

Did not like this. Would not buy for house.

Not into this. Too breathy. Too 80s. And Deeper Understanding - awful. Listened through 1.5 times and couldn't take it any more.

Not really a fan.

¡Sonaste!

She still has a great voice and some of the songs were good. Never saw the plot twist coming that Hitler was a good dancer 🤷

Not really my type of music either

I know she influenced Tori Amos, but at least Tori added melody. The breathy vocals and general sheen of pretentiousness are not working for me. Deeper Understanding was ahead of its time though. But it’s still not GOOD. And then it surprises me with This Woman’s Work which I actually know and sort of like. 2 stars.

kate bush from the 80s. Not really my thing

Meh, definitely not the Bush we heard in Hounds Of Love. It wasnt terrible, but I didnt appreciate the theme/concept most of the time. The 80sness of it really ruins it for me. Genesis style drums 😆 I liked the uplifting Love and Anger tune and that was about it.

I know nothing about Kate Bush and almost nothing about her music. After listening to this, the vibe I get from her is that she was that quirky, odd, theater arts type girl from your high school class who was kind of a loner and passionate about music but somehow heard and experienced music differently than most people. She ended up following her passion and made it a career. It's not music that I enjoy but good for her.

I'm glad the world has room for art pop musicians like Kate Bush who are out there being their weird, interesting selves. Also glad I don't need to hear it again.

Didn’t really click for me.

Weird and not really my thing

Maybe the least bad Kate Bush album I've had, out of the way too many Kate Bush albums on this list. But there's just no set of circumstances that would lead me to put this on for even the most casual and unfocused listen ever again.

sin mas

Yeah, I get Kate Bush is a darling to those of the hippier set thanks to Stranger Things, but this album is a huuuuuge stretch. 2/5

One word - aimless. Another word - bland. I wasn't expecting much and, in an an attempt to be fair and not go in with pre-conceived opinions, I decided I would listen to at least half of the album before making any decisions. Pretty soon I found myself counting down the tracks until I reached #6. Then I turned it off. This isn't for me at all. In fairness I could have listened to the whole album so it probably deserves a pair of stars.

I liked 'Heads we're Dancing'. Some Kate Bush songs have hooks and melodies. Not these ones.

I saw a few reviews comparing this to Bjork in some ways and I can kind of see it. She's got a great voice but this album feels loose. The instrumentals aren't doing a lot to elevate her sound. There are some good elements but this feels like far more missteps vs hits. Would love to hear what I'm missing and why this is on the list. Her other album was fine to have on. This Woman's Work is a good song.

This is not a good start for me. A scramble of imitation world music muzak. She is an interesting vocalist, but the instrumentation on this doesn't hold up. This is the third Kate Bush album on here and it seems unnecessary. The song Woman's Work... works since it doesn't have the cacophony of noise the rest of the tracks do.

I've came to the conclusion that Kate Bush's music is actually kinda obnoxious ("Hounds of Love" was a singularity.)

I feel like this is an album and artist that people say they like in order to sound intelligent and high-brow… but to me it was meh poetry sung by an irritating voice. This Woman’s Work was the only real standout, and even that was only “good”because I recognized it from use in tv / movies / dance, not because I actually liked it.

Im not a fan and was kind pf ok with her being forgotten. Damnstranger things. Still music is good but her voice is simply annoying to me

I don't want to beat around the bush so: I don't like Kate's Music! 1 extra star for not having "up that hill" on this album

ok, not my thing

I didn’t think Kate Bush would have a recommended album outside of the album that Running up that Hill would be on. I doubt it’s worth a listen. Let’s take a deeper look, shall we? The music is good, the vocals though vocally sound are weakened by the way she sings. It’s another trip down that Joni Mitchell road. I’m ok with female singers but there has to be something in it and like Enya, Joni and now Kate, they don’t have it. I don’t even think I can struggle through this album. It would have been better as an instrumental and if you’ve been following along, I don’t like instrumental albums either. It’s a lose lose with this one.

Kate should keep running up that hill until no one can hear her anymore.

I weep thinking about the artists who were left off of the list so that we could have a second 80’s-pop-disasterpiece from Kate Bush. The only enjoyable part for me was imagining all of the bad frizzy permed past the shoulder mullets in the studio. Ignoring the pop-du-jour production cliches here, her style of songwriting, like Carol Kings, just doesn’t do it for me. Melody and harmonic progression is an afterthought: write the poems, vocalize emotively, rinse, repeat.

I didn't really care for it. Ethereal pop is not really something I'm looking for. It's boring.

I was pleasantly surprised by Hounds of Love but this album reminded me why I don't really like Kate Bush.

Unknown artist for me. Not a bad album but I got tired of the style.

Kate Bush the music too wabbly. Music very 80’s synth sound dated, not for me, no joy.

Respekt.

Not a fan of Kate Bush and The Sensual World doesn't change that opinion. I'll never been drawn in by her voice or her vocal style, so it's hard to get past it and to be fair it's difficult to be objective about the record. For the most part it was listenable, but there is so much other music out there that deserves a place in my mind, heart and ears. Bush clearly has an audience, a very dedicated and passionate fan base, I'm just not one of them.

A bit too ethereal for me, her voice can be difficult to discern at times and I’m not crazy about the repeated lyrical structures. The instrumentation is oft airy and creative but not particularly what I enjoy. The weirder stuff (deeper understanding) is more fun than the poppy stuff. Listened to: walking through prospect park. Favorite tracks: Love and Anger, Rocket’s Tail, This Woman’s Work

This was honestly really boring to me. I don't know what it was about it but it seemed to be more or less the same song over and over again.

I may not be sensual enough to fully comprehend this one

I am not convinced as with The Dreaming or Hounds of Love. Bombastic? Yes! But is there something outstanding or just simply one well some Kate Bush record?

Don't really like it. A few songs are fine, but over time it is more of the same.

This Woman's Work was the best song on this album and almost made it worth having to listen to the whole thing to find it. Almost.

She's talented, just not my thing. 2/5

I respect Kate Bush as an artist who certainly has a vision and absolutely sees it through. It's a pity I really have no idea how to like her music more than I do.

I can't imagine a situation where I would want to hear this album. Maybe if I needed to get someone to leave, but there are more annoying records. I just can't imagine ever thinking that I'd like to hear this. At first, I really liked it but that was because I had Def Leppard in my queue from yesterday's album and so thought it was Kate Bush, which blew my mind for a few seconds. Then I realized my error.

I don’t feel anything when listening to this.

This is not for me. It's kinda like a mashup of Enya and Bjork and something else. Maybe Linda Rhondstat? I dunno. I want to like it, but it's just a little too off-putting for me. She has an interesting quaver to her voice, but it's not enough hook me. Sorry Kate. You're cute, and you have an awesome voice, but it's not for me. My Rating: 2/5

Osa toimii; suurempi osa valuuu ohitse.

Idk if Kate Bush is for me. Not bad, but it just went on forever and all sounded the same. 2* Last night I watched the Sopranos episode where Christopher’s girlfriend was trying to get some band signed onto a label and the sound guy was like “where’s the chorus?” This is what that was like.

I am not a fan of her vocal style. This album wasn’t so much "Sensual" as it was “whispering”.

I enjoyed the vocals. Overall the tempo was a little slow for me and it was kind of forgettable.

Liked the last song, almost put me to sleep while driving though

2 stars

I learned that I need a whole season of stranger things to enjoy a kate bush song. An entire album - no thank you

I'm down with Hounds of Love. This mostly slightly annoyed me.

Kate Bush was the musical guest on SNL in 1978, and I remember that she was not memorable. She always has been popular in the UK and Australia but never was a big hit here. Most of the songs on this album feature her teenage girl voice, although she was more rock and roll on “Rocket Tail”. Her message on “Deeper Understanding” certainly is relatable, and back then it was just tv and computers.

I thought being older and wiser and much more open in my taste. that I would get it. didn’t like you in th 80’s and I didn’t really like now. Sorry. I’m sure you’re a lovely person

This was ok. I liked some of it, but it didn't really grab me. I had a hard time getting into it.

She should stick to running up some hills. Just didn’t hit with me.

Very... 80s... not a huge fan of this

I'm learning I really don't like 80s pop. Slightly less grating than Cyndi Lauper so it gets a 2.

Kinda boring to me and not a huge fan of her voice. 2/5

Kate Bush's voice irks me Songs were crap too, and then I heard a lyric about Hitler and that just sealed the deal for me 2 ⭐️

I didn’t like this album as much as “Hounds of Love”, but I found it to be unique and creative. For some reason, I wasn’t very compelled by it. Can we classify that one song as tin-whistle bossanova? Not something I needed.

She's clearly talented, but just not my bag.

With Kate Bush's ethereal singing, 80s synths, and backing singers that sound like children singing in the playground, this is something I knew I would hate from the first couple of tracks. I struggled to find anything to enjoy here; it seems like mood music for a film that I wouldn't like. All the "songs" sounded the same, to the point where I had to check to see if we were actually still on the first track when I was halfway through. A desultory 2 stars.

Really don’t like this.
