Reviews (page 4 of 7)

Yes I said yes I will yes! Some solid tracks, especially the brilliant closer "This Woman's Work", but uneven compared to her stunning previous album Hounds of Love.

Me cuesta entrar en los discos de Kate Bush, pero después de varias escuchas finalmente hacen click

Very 80s, very Kate Bush. Pretty good though, with a kinda mysterious air about it. Nothing really stood out to me on the first play, but I sense that this is an album I'll like more with a deeper dive and a more focused listen. Favourite: Deeper Understanding

7/10 I like it!

Either I’m coming around or Bush’s style changed a lot. Probably both. The guitar in Love And Anger was great and a few other songs were pretty good. 7/10

-Fitting that I’d get at least one album from Kate Bush in the *Year of Bush* (a phrase that I will not use again). -The music occasionally has an ambient element, which may frustrate listeners searching for a pop hook/structure, but the way the album carefully weaves between those songs, and more urgent-sounding ones like “Rocket’s Tail”, meant that each individual song felt like a movement in a symphony. -I found out why track 9 sounded Pink Floyd-y. David Gilmour guests on that (and “The Fog”). HL: “The Fog”, “Heads We’re Dancing”, “Deeper Understanding”, also a continuing appreciation of Uileann pipes as heard in the title track November 18, 2022

She has her own sound and evolves all the time. So few artists truly achieve that and she deserves the recognition she’s been getting of late. Such a great sense of composition, melody, and performance. Great stuff.

Not her best album but I fell in love with her in 1979

As Kate Bush albums go, this isn't particularly one of my favorites, but it's still leagues beyond much of the musical landscape in 1989. Her sound is a bit more restrained and accessible than in her earlier works, with rich arrangements and Bush's trademark ethereal vocals. It's a less-is-more approach from an artist we know has the capability to go for something much more extravagant. And it works. Fave Songs: This Woman's Work, Love and Anger, Rocket's Tail, The Fog, Heads We're Dancing, Never Be Mine

3-4, but the last three songs of the album are the bomb

Yeah, nice album, particularly liked This Woman's Work. Her voice is very atmospheric and enjoyable. I prefer it to The Hounds of Love definitely.

It was very Kate Bush-y.

It's Kate Bush. It's just not as immediately catchy as her earlier work. The late 80s instrumentation is a little bit soft for me but there are many layers of experimentation hidden in this well produced pop album. (4.0)

For as modern as the arrangements of this album are, Kate Bush’s voice retains its timeless otherworldly quality. She has a clear vision of what she wants this record to be, an intimidate understanding of what women endure.

Number three from Kate Bush. It's my least favorite of the three but dammit it's still great. Something about her voice, and just the eclectic instrumentation, you never know what's coming around the corner. This one's a lot less experimental than The Dreaming, and it lacks the dreamy pop grandeur of Hounds of Love, but it's still very enjoyable, with plenty of melodies and hits that I'll come back to. Special shoutout to "Deeper Understanding," where she croons about treating the computer as a friend as she installs a new program. Hilarious. So far, Kate Bush has been one of my favorite discoveries from this list, even with all the Stranger Things tik tok stuff going around. I'll take as many albums from her as they want to throw at us. Favorite tracks: Reaching Out, Love and Anger, Heads We're Dancing, Deeper Understanding, Never Be Mine, Rocket's Tail, The Woman's Work. Album art: Frankly, weaker than the other two as well. Pretty basic portrait shot with little intrigue. Not much to say here, wish it was more enticing. 4/5

4.1⭐️

Absolutely Ethereal. Which I think is just very much Her vibe. I'm glad people are finding about her, she fucking deserves more.

Is Kate Bush always this prog? It's great!

Kate Bush is such a weirdo I love it. Fave song: Rocket’s Tail.

I was pleasantly surprised with this album. Quality songs, cool orchestration mixed with classic 80s synth sounds. Flavors of Stevie Nicks with complex vocal arrangements. Musical influences from around the world-- Sensual indeed! I appreciate the non traditional song structures. Favorite tracks: The Fog , Heads We're Dancing, Between a Man and a Woman, Never Be Mine I liked almost every song

Supreme

Kate Bush is sexy. Standout tracks were the title track, Deeper Understanding, and Rocket's Tail.

So what this is telling me is that St. Vincent owes a lot to Kate Bush. Everything I like about St. Vincent is here in this album, it seems like, though I don't have that one song that gets stuck in my head, like 'New York'. But that's neither here nor there. I've listened to other Kate Bush work before but it never grabbed my attention like this one. And this is lesser Kate Bush? Fantastic.

Already own this album, and I have to admit - after The Kick Inside, this one took a while to grow on me. But grow it did! Kate Bush's lush soundscapes are augmented with prominent use of synthesised sounds, including what I take to be a Fairlight - and it works. Yes, it's a sleeker proposition than many of the preceding albums. That works for me! Hell, there's even a Mick Karn bass line on 'Heads We're Dancing'. Bush's singing is every bit as characterful as it ever was, and on this release seems to find new depths of feeling. Am I off-base by suggesting that this is Bush's most overtly feminist collection to date? Regardless, it's indebtedness to New Wave aside, The Sensual World is a peculiar, original, lovely creation.

I’m the clear Kate Bush newbie here, it seems. Shame on me. I liked this a lot! Definitely liked it more than Bush. (The band and the Presidents.) The sound of this record won me over pretty much from the word go. Beautiful sounds, colorful voice. I dig it. And now I’m wondering if there’s gonna be a Bush record on this list. I mean, probably. Ah hell.

I’ve have never really gave Kate Bush much time, as the little I knew of her work didn’t really appeal to me back in the day. Now that my exposure to her work has been expanded, I do have appreciation for it…although I struggled to connect to all of this album. Repeated listens did help, and there are a few tracks that I really love!

After the incredible success of her prior album, Hounds of Love, Kate Bush effectively had total artistic freedom. She had proven herself as being a pop virtuoso, being skilled in songwriting, production, and performance. Kate Bush was untouchable, and could do whatever the hell she wanted. The Sensual World comes across as her most mature and subtle work to date. Instead of big bombastic vocal performances, Bush lets the instruments tell their story while blending in her voice which results in a more polished, appreciated product. Admittedly, I enjoy this a lot more than her previous works (though nothing will ever top the song Running Up That Hill). Really just a wonderful release from the pop queen. I expect nothing less.

I wasn't super into this one until the second half, which was excellent!

Don't know if I'm starting to grow a vagina or what. But, I found this album enjoyable.

Another great Kate Bush album. Gorgeous production to match her beautiful voice. Not quite as good as Hounds of Love or The Kick Inside but still a great album. 4 🌟

The voice. The mysterious yet uplifting atmosphere. These are things that sit right up front and center for any Kate Bush record. I'm not as familiar with this particular one but it doesn't disappoint. If there's any negative there's definitely no escaping some of the 80s feel to it (e.g. chorus, gated drums)...but honestly somehow it's rarely distracting I think because the music itself is so interesting. There's often much going on and yet not so much as to be distracting or anything approaching a wall of sound. Her arrangements are always impeccable in terms of instrumentation within a song. Highlights: "Love and Anger" (with notable guitar from David Gilmour) "Reaching Out" and "This Woman's Work" 7/10 4 stars.

What a romp!

I remember thinking that Kate Bush wasn't angry enough when I was in high school and now I feel like she is jus the right amount of angry. Her intensity is captivating.

Precious

3 1/2.. kanske t om 4 pga This womans work

I hadn’t heard this before and it didn’t have an immediate great number like Hounds of Love or Wuthering Heights, but on second and third listens it reveals itself as a wonderful, coherent piece. Four stars, and can see it gathering the fifth after more listens.

Jag ämnar inte ljuga, jag började lyssna på detta å sen kom de gäster å de va på i bakgrunden så ja fick int lyssnat ordentligt,,,, det får ändå en 4 dock ty kate bush LOL🌅

Kate Bush = epic, simple as

Last few songs were great, but overall not as good as some of her other albums

Aujourd'hui j'ai appris que j'aimais bien Kate Bush

She has a different sound. I was always a fan of 'Wuthering Heights' but had never listened to any of her other albums.

Pretty cool, I enjoyed this one. More of a 3.5, but rounding up because of how consistent the high quality of this album was.

enjoyed this much more than i thought i would. waves of lush instrumentation and Bush's unique voice all add up to something that is wonderful rather than weird

Ok...Love and Anger is an all time favorite I like the rest of the album too. Yes, she goes "out there" because she was more performance artist then musician. I forgive the kooky so I can enjoy the good stuff

muito belo e intrigante curti bastante a atmosfera

Not her best album, or even her second best imo, but still bloody good.

it as OK - I listened to It while I was falling asleep for a na

A bit too much going on at times but it is still a KB record.

This was the first time listening the album which is consistently strong collection of songs. The range is there, the intricacies but it is missing something.

yes nice

Reminded me of Kimbra and Kate Miller-Heidke.

Sounds like nightrider. Gentle could drift to bed to this.

Super Album bei dem die Kälte schon wieder emotional ist

Very awesome. First time listening to Kate bush. Love it. Kind of like st. Vincent but from the 80s

This is an album from 1989. It sounds like 1989. I can hear where other artists have emulated Kate.

A couple of super excellent tracks on this- the instrumentation is so beautiful and at times like nothing I have ever heard before. Her voice is soo unique as well and the approach to a lot of the songs is genius. Love this woman and her work :’)

Eccentric in all the right places with the added bonus of 'This woman's work' being one of my favourite songs

Hier en daar enkele eigenaardig opgebouwde nummers, maar wel een goed album

Big fan, not an artist I have dug into before.

Only ever listened to a few tracks before, its good

Like it - pleasantly surprising that Kate Bush was such a popular artist. She is so strange and interesting. All very dramatic - Really like the strings, not so keen on that 80's guitar. I was really digging Rocket's Tail until that bloody guitar... Still a cool song. Liked the last few songs the most

A sensational art pop record for all times and ages

Maybe a 5?

This was my first listen. How remarkable, I need to remember to go back for more Kate Bush

Almost a 5. Such impeccable compositions and production.

Lots of variety, great vocals,

Always a fan of her unique expression. I feel like I need to listen to her more.

Really enjoyed this. Kate bush is great but she has better albums.

Deeper understanding is a disturbingly accurate depiction of today. Rocket Tail is my highlight.

Solid album. She was way ahead of her time.

really surprisingly enjoyed 80s Mick Karn on bass

i have listened to kate bush before but not this album, i'll probably like it post listen: nice

4/26 Certainly a more personal, divine feminine type album, she does it well and she's got a great, very expressive voice. Standout Tracks: The Sensual World, The Fog, Between A Man And A Woman, Rocket's Tail (For Rocket)

Pretty good!

Sensual music in a sensual world. Bush doing what she does best here!

It was nice having Dave Gilmour on the guitars here, but this was ultimately a shrug of the shoulders follow up to a classic. I like the strings all over here, but the album is very generic in comparison to Hounds.

Don’t love it, it isn’t bad though!

Love and Anger is her best track, and the others on this album don’t disappoint. What would we do without you?

i have no particular skin in the game when it comes to Bush. She seems fine and i enjoyed her more famous album, however another seems overkill. This passed by with her usual vocal charm bur it didnt have the hooks to raise this beyond average.

Listening session: july 9th, while getting ready in the morning Listened to before: no Thoughts: I find Kate Bushes music always a bit weird, but not in an unpleasant way. Not something I would come back to regularly, but from time to time this is nice Favourite tracks: Love And Anger, Reaching Out & Never Be Mine

Good, but nothing can top Hounds of Love.

I know that Kate Bush is very important in the music industry but listening to it nowadays is just not THAT enjoyable. I assume it was a lot more exciting back in the day. Overall, it's okay having it in the background.

This was merely fine. Not her best stuff

You ready for some blasphemy? Some of this stuff is so just kinda boring

Pretty good! Loved the 80s vibes and Kate Bush is always so whimsical sounding. Fave on album was Rocket's Tail.

Kate Bush has a beautiful voice, and the piano playing on here is quite good. I appreciate some of the eclectic sounds found on here, but I'm not hearing any memorable melodic hooks, rather melodies seem to meander. This was nice but not something I’ll come back around to.

It's good, not great, kind of what I expected

Great album flow. Not my favorite Kate Bush album.

Banqué, especialmente “love and anger” el resto bien, pero no me llegó a convencer mucho el disco. Quizá lo volvería a escuchar, pero no creo.

Such an interesting sound; I know she’s divisive. I like the tone of her voice but somehow there’s something that happens with some of her consonants that sounds, I don’t know, wet? It gives me the cringe the way I might when someone is eating and talking at the same time. Feels bad to focus on this, but I had trouble getting past it in certain songs. If it weren’t for this, I’d probably have given this a 4.

its nice and calm but it was hard to find anything memorable in this album.

I didn't connect with this album. It was fine. Just not my bag really.

I'm getting a bit of a phil collins vibe here and quite enjoying it. Especially from "Heads we're Dancing". Then you get to "Deeper Understanding" and that song is very poignant in the age of AI. I shall continue to listen and see where the rest of the album takes me. Ended up being quite an enjoyable album. I'm surprised to have not heard any of it before.

Kate Bush is an otherworldly fae cryptid and this album is a ritualistic rite. Those are the vibes I get anyway.

Not bad, but just not for me.

I really enjoyed this. The instrumentation was varied and Kate's vocals are unique. 3.5/5.

I need to spend more time with this one. I know she is a deep and thoughtful in her music. I give it a three until I can listen to it more. Someone like this you can't go in blind listening too. there just isnt enough time in the day to grasp this one.

Kate Bush is certainly a trailblazer; a legend... but her music isn't quite my cup of tea.

Not my cup of tea but not bad

It’s ok. Her other album on here is better.

No running up any hills, but this was still a decent album

Not my favorite Kate Bush album, there are better. This Woman's Work is an all time great though. Deserves closer to a 4, but there was some mid songs on this one

This album was piano-driven, soulful-sounding music that at times had a power-pop '80s sound. At other times, it was atmospheric and moody. It wasn't bad (I more enjoyed the darker songs on the second half), but I couldn't immerse myself in it. The '80s vibes are just not something I like very much. But Kate Bush does have a certain appealing charm somehow.

Compared to the last two albums i heard, The Sensual World was certainly heaven. The only song i was really familiar with from Kate Bush prior to listening to this is Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) (and also her collabing with Peter Gabriel on Don't Give Up) but i'm honestly surprised to see that this music feels like the same kind of music that Bjork would go on to make. I can definitely admit that there are some moments of absolute brilliance on this album but i did feel like the album was too airy (for lack of a better word) and ended up being a bit forgettable. It still is definitely a solid listen, just not a great one. Best Song: This Woman's World Worst Song: The Sensual World

I like Kate Bush and I love when she plays silly buggers which she does a lot but there’s something about her. I’d rather listen to someone else sometimes? Where’s Sinead O’Connor? Will she be on this list?

Great artist overall, but far from my fav album.

Two Kate Bush albums so close to each other? Just like the last one - one great song and the rest are okay.

The vocalscalist is quite skilled and I like a couple songs, some guitar riffs, but there isn't much variety in Ms. Bush's music.

I gave "Hounds of Love" a 4 and "The Dreaming" a 2. This album is in between. 3/5

I still haven’t fully figured out Kate Bush. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 is clearly thoughtful and carefully put together, but it never completely draws me in. The vocals, the arrangements, the whole atmosphere — it all feels very specific to her world, which I can appreciate more than I actually connect with. There are definitely moments that stand out, but as a whole it still keeps me at a bit of a distance.

Pretty good

this was fine, not sure i will revisit

nice singing, cool instruments used

Wasn't sure if I'd recognize anything on this album, but I'm fairly certain I've heard "The Fog" before. It's terrific, brooding, haunting. I love the strings. Beyond that, it is the sort of maudlin pop that I don't mind, but wouldn't seek out. Great singer, obviously talented songwriter, but not my genre.

It was nice

I was definitely disappointed by this album but I think that’s just because I ADORED the dreaming. This album just isn’t the dreaming, unfortunately. I did however really like the songs “love and anger”, “reaching out”, and “deeper understanding”. Just didn’t hold a candle to her other album I liked more but I still enjoyed it.

Kate Bush at her medium.

Very nice but not exceptional.

The first track sounds a lot like the Mario 64 underwater level music and that's a good thing.

This album is like having a glass of wine after the big family lunch on Christmas Day. You're a bit tipsy by now, and all the formalities of the family Christmas lunch are done. Now you are chilling in a relaxed environment talking to your whimsical aunt. She has always been a bit flighty, but you have always got on well with her. She is giving you relationship advice while also laughing about how that last glass of champagne means she won't be able to drive anywhere. You're pretty sure your uncle is also quite drunk, so you're not sure how that situation is going to sort itself out. Oh well, not yours to worry about. You ask your aunt if you can bum a cigarette and she happily obliges.

Kate Bush is someone history kinda forgot about until her running up that hill song took off again due to Stranger Things. This album, which does not feature that tune, stated well but hen just drifted into background music with nothing special standing out. Its. It wasnt offensive or bad in anyway, but id describe it as boring.

It's okay

Not great, not terrible.

Solid album, but nothing that really stood out.

Listenable even today.

The musical theatre is still in the words, but it has all but disappeared from the vocalisation and orchestration. This Woman's Work is the only real earworm on the album, but a poor Kate Bush album trumps a good album from most other artists.

Good vocals, alt-rock

Other than that Stranger Things kid running up a hill to tell the evil mutants he's gay I'm truly a tabula rasa with Kate Bush. Coming to this by way of the Cocteau Twins album means we're primed to also tell the evil mutants that we're a little curious too. I'm probably really late to the party but between the Cocteau Twins, Enya, and Kate Bush the the late eighties were a hell of a time for unbelievable female vocals.

With guests like Alan Stivell and David Gilmour, her voice still holding strong, a Celtic-rock blend and some genuinely inspired instrumentation at times, this is very solid for an 80s record. Kate Bush avoids the usual glossy, synthetic shortcuts, and the result has aged quite well except on few tracks such like Heads we’re dancing. Overall a decent record to me, a bit flat at times, but with some very nice highs like Rocket’s tail.

3.5 stars

I had pretty high expectations for this after Hounds of Love in 1985. This was her next album but it was a 4 year wait. This one didn’t quite do it for me. The title track is great and This Woman’s Work grabs me every time it comes on in the background in a movie or TV show. Her next one, The Red Shoes, is better. Weirdly, this album isn’t listed in the quick link I use to see how many albums an artist has in the 1,001. Must be an addition in a later edition. https://www.listchallenges.com/1001-albums-you-must-hear-before-you-die-2021/list/26

I love “this woman’s work.” And there are other songs on this album too.

Сара 3.5 Марко 3.5

Love And Anger

Fairly decent Kate Bush album

This is another '80s album that didn't hold up as well as I thought it would.

Not really notable? It was alright.

Kate Bush’s The Sensual World finds the art-pop icon leaning even further into her idiosyncrasies—lush Celtic textures, theatrical vocals, and a rhythmic sensibility that seems to follow only her own compass. It’s a record full of intricate ideas and emotional nuance, though Bush’s singular delivery can be an acquired taste, and not every experiment lands with the same weight. Still, there’s plenty to admire: the title track opens the album with shimmering pipes and a vocal approach that feels like a proto–Tori Amos invocation; “The Fog” drapes its melody in somber strings that evoke storm clouds gathering; and “Never Be Mine” brings the Celtic instrumentation back for one of the album’s most quietly infectious moments. She closes with “This Woman’s Work,” a stripped-down piano ballad that stands among her most affecting pieces. And with “Deeper Understanding,” Bush pens a surprisingly prescient meditation on human–computer relationships—nearly a decade before OK Computer would make digital alienation a global talking point.

Correcto

Not quite as good as the last Kate Bush album we rated. Very, very 80s sounding, and that is among my very least favorite sounds, but there's some interesting songs on here that I found enjoyable.

Same as the previous Kate album: one track I love -- Love and Anger -- and a bunch of diverse semi-experimental stuff I don't like as much.

3/5 - Listening to Love and Anger really brings back a 1990 nostalgia rush to a very particular time for me, but that's about the extent of my connection here. I think that's probably what Kate Bush does best though. Very particular music that can either make a strong connection or else just leave you wondering what the hell?

i’m a big fan of just about everything kate bush has made but this one i love just a little less. some of her drama and weirdness feels slightly smoothed out in this album, except for the closing two tracks which i love.

Fin. Blir litt for mye kvining.

Høydepunkt: This Woman's Work.

The Sensual World reaches for the same places as Hounds of Love, but it just doesn’t quite get a full grasp.

This grew on me on the second spin. I don’t hate it.

I think this was good... unfortunately I didn't give it my whole attention until near the end so I may like it more if I would give it a full listen. It definitely didn't grab me though.

Not as strong as hounds of love, but pleasant enough.

Uniek, origineel, maar ook irritant om naar te luisteren

good but not for me, great vocals of course. no stand-out song

I had a pretty good time with this one but nothing particularly stood out to me. I did really enjoy the last track, This Woman's Work.

I loved the album "Hounds Of Love". This one, which was published four years later is by far not as interesting. Kate Bush of course still has her magical way of singing but there is too little new in the music.

Some of the earlier songs lean too much into the quiet and intimate singing, making it pretty hard to hear. This isn't as much of an issue later, although I found a lot of the tracks pretty boring and repetitive. I could see how this is a good album, but it really wasn't my cup of tea.

Really sleepy whimsical pop music. I can see the beauty in it but not really my jam.

The very soft tone throughout many of the songs renders it hard to hear the vocals clearly at times; however, I think that is part of the purpose, as it serves the themes of woman-hood and lost loves

Speaking about similar style, I prefer Tori Amos' music way more.

#884. I guess she was quite popular in the UK, but I had personally never once heard her name before that one song was on Thinger Strangs. I don't know, but I suppose that like with all pop music, you really had to've been there at the time to really appreciate it. I dig her voice, but I didn't really find myself caring about any of the songs. 3/5: good

3.5 , This Woman’s Work a 5 star track on its own

Honestly it was fine. She's talented but I can't say I enjoyed much of the album.

This is bit too 80's MOR for me. Some nice moments but the glossy 80's sheen prevents me from getting under the skin of it. The only exception is This Woman’s Work which is a classic and a song I like to play to Lizzie whenever she is having a go at me for being useless. She loves it. Never gets old.

Having a hard time rating this one. On the one hand I really like some of the songs like Reaching Out and This Woman’s Work. It’s also unarguable that Kate Bush has an amazing voice. BUT three times I’ve listened to this and three times I’ve fallen asleep. And I’m fine with that if that’s the vibe of the album 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kate Bush has a real vibe. Enjoyed but nothing in particular stood out as a repeat listen.

5.0/10

Well written and well arranged, but Bush's whimsical and frequently childlike affectations in the vocals drag it down. She's got a great voice but the baby talk singing makes me cringe.

It was perfectly fine .. but not the best Bush.

I love Kate Bush, but this isn’t a must listen. It’s just not.

Love listening to female artists always. This one didn’t quite hit for me but still a good album and I can see why it’s on here.

Okei, ehkä vähän siedettävämpi Kate Bush levy. Rokimpaa ja tosi vahva kasari soundi tässä kitarasooloineen. Okei tää on kyllä hyvä levy. Parhaat: Love And Anger, Between A Man And Women, Rocket's Tail

Nifty, erotic.

This one didn't grab me as much as "Hounds of Love." I had it on in the background and gave it two listens. I enjoyed what I was hearing but "Hounds of Love" had an edge and some quirkiness that really jumped out at me. This one felt a little more straightforward. I'll come back to "Hounds of Love" but I didn't add this one to my library. 2.50 stars, rounding up to 3.

My rating 3.2

I don't really like her voice or that the songs are very monotone but it's creative

Creative and exciting and... boring at the same time? I don't think I remember a single chorus or repeated melody from the whole thing. I love her voice, and it's produced well and sounds nice... but I don't think I'll ever put this on again. Happy for the 1 listen.

Interesting, not my favorite of her work

Not a personal favorite but it isn’t terrible. Sometimes I don’t think the music meshes with her vocals

Not as great as Bush's other stuff but Hounds of love is top-tier

I'm getting a more serious Cyndi Lauper vibe to her voice, maybe some Pat Bennatar too. The quiver in Bush's voice is slightly off putting at first but she does use it to her advantage. The 80s sound or aspect is very prevalent but it can't help that it's from the 80s. I don't like this style of music but it's ok.

After listening to this, I now have a Deeper Understanding of The Sensual World.

Nowhere in the world do I find anything sensual about this album so titled. Couple tracks would be ok if there was no vocal. Album cover gets a half star for giving me Prince eyes vibes. ⭐⭐⭐

Not particularly interesting.

Not as good as the other Kate Bush albums on this list. This one drags a bit, but her usual creativity is there. 3.0/5.0: Good

this album felt so much longer than it actually was. she has a great voice but only about half of the songs hit the mark. the other half are fine but not something i would really want to hear again

The title track sounds like it’s from the soundtrack of a soft porn flick. A couple of these songs I really liked, a couple I really disliked (see title track), and the rest were fair to middling for me. It boils down to another three or star album for me.

I've never really understood the love around Kate Bush. I don't think she is bad by any means, her music just doesn't do anything for me. This album is fine and has some good moments, but it is not something that I think I would ever really return to. High 3.

I’m finally free of Kate Bush. This is the third and final Kate Bush album I’ve rolled for this project after giving her other 2 albums both a 2 star review. Surely, this one is similar to her other albums I didn’t care for, right?? Well, actually, hold on now. You’re going to think I’m joking, but I somehow kind of really liked this album. Words I never in a million years thought I would say about The Sensual World after listening to her other 2 albums on here. I stated after the last one that I was convinced this would be more of the same. To tell you why I liked this one so much requires a bit of backtracking to explain why I didn’t love the other ones. So, her other 2 albums have unique aspects to them that, and while I’m glad they exist for the sole purpose of being able to tell so easily that she’s just genuinely having fun with it the entire time, are not something I want to hear on an album personally. Every song she’s either making weird animal noises, sometimes actually barking, or doing weird throat things that just sound too experimental for my liking. Again, they’re fun, maybe a bit pretentious as an art form, but very goofy. Bad, yes, but also somehow true to her character and genuine sounding. If that even makes sense, glaring contradiction included. They made me want a Kate Bush album where she’s just singing normally. I figured she had it in her but wasn’t convinced I was ever going to get it. Ladies and gentlemen, this is that album. I gotta tell you, she’s got a great voice when she chooses to use it, and songs like “Heads We’re Dancing”, and my favorite song on the album “Rocket’s Tail” are proof of that. Let me be absolutely clear, this is still very much a Kate Bush album. She’s still very expressive and pitchy with her vocals. She will still occasionally do a random vocal stim out of nowhere. But it’s not as annoyingly breathy or just plain random and dog barky. It’s more contained and guided properly. And for that reason, you know what, this album truly surprised me. Not in a way where I thought it was barely tolerable, but in a way where I truly enjoyed it all the way through. I personally believe this is her best album, and now I’m glad the bot decided to save it for last. By the grace of God, I’ve found a Kate Bush album I enjoyed. Weird and unexpected times for sure. But I’m not complaining at all. “Rocket’s Tail” just rocks unnecessarily hard for no reason, and I thought it was awesome. Great job Kate. I like this one. You finally got me. Third time really is the charm for Kate Bush.

Me cuesta mucho trabajo Kate Bush. Por supuesto amo Running Up That Hill y este disco trae un par de canciones que me gustaron, pero su estilo experimental y sus momentos de voz agudísima me cansan. Seguro no es mal disco, pero me costó un poco.

A continuing theme as of late -- I listened to this about 3 times, but was never able to give it a ton of focus. General impressions are on the positive side. I enjoyed the orchestral suite on The Fog -- felt a bit Bjork-y. Also enjoyed Heads We're Dancing. Otherwise on a quick scan back through I think the songs are okay, but sometimes err a little on the pretentious side. But the sounds are clean and for the most part pleasant. For that I'll go with a noncommittal 3

So moody. I'll guess I can point to this album for anyone that is going through a bad breakup?

Nice art pop with great production, arrangements and singing. But this style of melancholic art pop gives me anxiety, rather than reliving sadness. I prefer earlier Kate when she was more cheerful, joyful and playful.

i appreciate this album but i also expected a bit more :( or maybe because in general im not the biggest fan of art rock or art pop. still, there are a few tracks that i liked a lot more than others.

Reading the negative reviews here, I expected some warbling mess of experimental sounds and nonsensical lyrics. Instead what I got was an early predecessor of Tori Amos, hauntingly beautiful and lyrically stunning. This Woman’s Work - WOW, adding that to my favourites

Hounds of Love is the best but this is still good

A bit repetitive

3 Kate Bush albums seems excessive

I love Kate Bush but to me this doesn't really stand out massively as an album, does have some good songs on it though

art pop rock, 1989 -> 3

NOTE: Listening and rating to this on Apr 21 2026. Now for review. Does not seem to contain tracks nearly as memorable as in Hounds of Love. However it's not bad at all, I liked This Woman's Work and possibly "Never be mine". Dead in the center with 3 stars.

The albums on here fascinate me. I liked this more than I thought I would. But it gets hard for me to listen to her voice after a while.

Good melodies, and a bit more restraint in her vocals lead to a pleasant listen.

Nice enough. ★★★

Wonderful woman, Ok album

Kate Bush is weird. But I liked this one better than the last one. 3.5

I find Bush's more accessible pop sound more enjoyable.

My bar was set high with Hounds of Love where I became a fan of Kate Bush. This album being the followup, I was curious how it would compare. Its a good album, and as I have learned with Kate Bush, this is going to take a few listens to grasp it all.

ethereal

Kinda interesting, very 80s, solidly 'okay' for me

Kate bush is ok

3.5 Not gonna lie, I was probably a little too harsh on Kate Bush’s last album. At the time, I lived with a roommate who blasted her music constantly, and Stranger Things had, ironically, taken her iconic song Running Up That Hill and ran it into the ground. Now, I live alone, and the popular Netflix series has concluded (three years later), so I think I can view her music a bit more objectively. And, honestly, it’s really not that bad. Kate Bush has such a unique voice that has just now finally started growing on me, and while it did remind me a bit Cyndi Lauper and Björk at times, I would say her delivery has a touch more charm in comparison (not trying to throw shade, but both have a tendency to way overdo it). Though, Kate certainly isn’t infallible - the opening of Rocket’s Tail was borderline grating. Fortunately, everything else is pretty good, and the production, in particular, is fantastic - thinking about it now, the one word that jumps out to me is “soundscape”. This album does a fantastic job of sucking you into the world it creates and taking you on a sort of spiritual journey, making it feel much more like a sci-fi epic than it does a simple pop album about love - in hindsight, I can definitely see why her music made its way into Stranger Things. Whatever kind of love Kate is experiencing, it must be pretty damn good considering the climactic nature to so many of these songs. That said, this is also very same-y. It feels weird to say that because I wouldn’t say that every song SOUNDS the same per se, but they all do the same sort of thing, thematically and sonically. It doesn’t really allow for a lot of highlights, and looking at the tracklist now after four listens, I still couldn’t really point out any one song over another. Per my earlier analogy, you could certainly say that this album is much more about the journey than the destination, but for as cool as it sounds, I’m just not sure there’s a lot of substance - it’s almost like I had a cathartic itch I was never quite able to scratch. This definitely helped expand my appreciation for Kate a bit, to the point that I’m even willing to concede Running Up That Hill is a pretty good song, but I can’t say it turned me into any sort of diehard fan of hers. I’m glad to have been exposed to this album, but I don’t think I’m likely to frequent it.

More of the same from Bush really. Not my thing but can admire some of the musicality.

Pretty good stuff, got bored near the end.

Nice Beats, Okay lyrics.Pleasant

This is #day485 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's my first Kate Bush album experience, and the first of three of her records on the list. Something tells me this isn't the right one to get familiar with her work. Had Hounds of Love been first, I might have had a better impression. Yeah, it's progressive pop, late '80s, but… I don't know. That said, the lyrics of "Deeper Understanding" made my eyebrows raise: "As the people here grow colder, I turn to my computer, and spend my evenings with it like a friend." Pretty much a description of today’s lifestyle from the perspective of 1989. Let it be a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day486.

I enjoyed this album for the most part. It did get a bit repetitive at times where the songs started to mesh together. But, overall it's a solid work. I recommend a listen to everyone before they die. 3.4 / 5 stars

Kate Bush perfectly straddles the line between utter genius and completely unbearable. Her songwriting is phenomenal, but the arrangement and vocals are a struggle for me. She's a bit of an enigma for me in that sense... Somehow I'm simultaneously glad "Wuthering Heights" wasn't on this album and wishing that "Running Up That Hill" was. Yes, those are the two Kate Bush songs I can name, what of it?

Interesting voice, but not much heart here...obviously influenced by Peter Gabriel

Not her best

Unique voice! An album that is between dark and full of pathos, with deep lyrics and some climaxes. Nevertheless, I was not very much involved in this certain atmosphere

I liked some of the weird things I haven't heard before. Things such as Celtic instruments being used to play stereotypical sounding Arabian melodies on tracks like 'The Sensual World'. But most of the time it was a little too artsy and while kind of cool sometimes I just don't see myself returning to this album again Standouts The Sensual World Rocket's Tail 3/5

Sure, this is fine, just not, like, amazing

No es mi favorito de Kate Bush, y me suena claramente ochentero pero de un modo que no termina de ser un "clásico". Convencida de que otra vez nos encontramos ante "el cupo de mujer" de la semana.

Kate bush is super talented. Someone should go back and remix about of her songs with better beats haha

I’m partial to a bit of Kate Bush (and will be giving 5 stars to one album), but this felt a bit too undefined, ethereal and wishy washy. Not the same bite as some of her earlier tracks.

Not much of a Kate Bush fan it seems.

Languorous

This was closer to 3.5, yesterday's more of a 2.5 but same score.

Huch. Fand ich ganz gut. Hätte ich irgendwie anders erwartet.

The music is average, but man what a voice

Its okay. Shes great but all the songs spund the same

About what I expected. Not my favorite genre but a fine album.

Enjoyed listening might listen again see if I like it any better

It was pretty but it’s not something I’d reach for probably. Not as gut wrenching as some of her other stuff because of the 80s-ish gloss over it. It was kind of leaning too Peter Gabriel for me but she gives a great vocal performance.

The only song I already knew from this album was This Woman’s Work - which I really liked. I expected to enjoy the rest of the album but it just wasn’t really my thing. Might partly be because I was expecting something different. I love her voice, I just didn’t really vibe with the album. Fav song: This Woman’s Work Least fav: The Fog

Some of the warbling weirdness ventured a little too far into the strange (and annoying...) for me. But there were some songs I really liked! Favourite song: This Women's Work (also really liked Love And Anger) Least: Rocket's Tail

Very 80's, vocals were weird but somehow didn't bother me nearly as much as if the same vocals were from a male singer. Bjork-like? The instrumentation almost reminded me of Phil Collins in a way, emphasis on the drums and driving guitar. Not bad!

Ethereally beautiful , it’s fucking Kate Bush, do I really have to say more??

Kate Bush was a huge blind spot for me until Stranger Things. I had heard her name but could not have told you a single thing about her or her music. I blame MTV, lol. I like this. It sounds like the '80s, but not in a cheesy, commercial way. While listening to these 1001 albums I've often wondered how different my musical taste would have been if I had been born ten years earlier. Coming of age and actually being in college when "college rock" was first becoming a thing. I feel like Kate Bush would have been a favorite of mine in that alternate reality. I like what I hear from her now, but it can't "grab" me like I think it would have if I had first listened to it as a teenager.

An apt name for this one! Personally I wouldn’t consider this a must listen before you die, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Kate Bush's voice and artistry are as inimitable as ever, but the musical worlds she inhabits here do little to arouse my senses.

I get why people love Kate Bush, but I don’t get Kate Bush. It’s a little too woowoo for me, ya know?

Niceness

Quite beautiful and ethereal. 3.5

(67/100)

It's fine but not great. David Gilmour's guitar work is the highlight of the album. Kate Bush can be too weird at times but her weirdness can also be charming at times.

This was pleasant but made me want to listen to Hounds of Love mostly

A lot of lush layers and ideas in the instrumentation. The melodies are kind of hookless though which makes it tend to become background music.

Distinctly Kate Bush, I guess maybe that should have been obvious but if you have heard her music you know she has a distinct style and this album explores exactly that. It fits in that pattern of songwriting and singing, kind of hard to describe but I don't mean it in a bad way. That is just her style and she is good at it. Not bad but for me I don't think I would listen to it very often, there are just options I prefer in this genre.

I'm not a big Kate Bush guy. She has a flair for the dramatic in a way I find sort of annoying. But I liked the instrumentation on this album, and when she's not being shrieky her voice is quite nice

Second Kate Bush album. This list really has been busting out blasts from the past lately. This is yet another artist whose last album I listened to was over 200 albums ago. I didn't like The Dreaming and I haven't at all felt compelled to relisten to it in the time since first hearing it, though I'm always one to extend a second chance. Or a third. Or a fourth. I don't know, I just like listening to music. Yep. More Kate Bush, alright. The first two tracks bug the hell out of me, though the album recovers quite nicely afterwards when the Bush-iness has been more thoughtfully pruned. The sampling of world music creates an interesting bit of variety, and I'm a fan of the heavy production on the instrumentals. I'm not sold on this album yet and I have a good feeling that this music isn't for me, though there's a good chance I could come around to this album with a few more listens. The title track is solid. The instrumental is pretty interesting, though the vocals are a bit of a mixed bag. They firmly land in the center between being annoying and pleasing. The song isn't all that sensual, either. "Love and Anger" has a solid instrumental. The guitar riffs are pleasing and I like the piano bits which occasionally dip in. Again, it's just the vocals. They're too menopausal for me. Between Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and a dozen other artists that I don't know of and have little interest in knowing, what is it about these kinds of people which possesses them to sing like warbling harpies? "The Fog" is a recovery from the previous two tracks. I am ostensibly not a fan of Indian music, but the atmosphere works quite well here with how heavy the production is. Big fan of the string sections which appear midway through the track, too. Kate's vocals are much better. They scratch an itch which had built up over the previous tracks, especially since they have an actual melody to em. "Heads We're Dancing" has a pretty funky bassline, and I am once again a fan of the heavy production. The song is avant-garde to the point where it wraps around to sounding like a conventional 90s dance song at points, which is funny. Book time. A whole lotta nothin' in there beyond this album being the one where Kate Bush matures as an artist. This album was pretty out there and unusual with more than a few moments I enjoyed, so I don't need much more than that, really. I cosign this inclusion.

It's a great album, but she has 3 on the list, this is not the best one, it doesn't have any of her big hit songs, so I don't think this needs to be there.

Unique and influential sound that inspired many modern artists I enjoy; I felt almost something.

She’s an amazing singer with incredible range and emotion in her voice. I’m just not a big fan of the progressive rock style, which makes it a bit less enjoyable for me. I could sit and listen to Kate Bush just singing for hours though.

Enjoyed most of it, I like the style of the album

The thing about Kate Bush is that she's a great singer, songwriter and everything, nothing actually wrong with her music. I just don't like it but it still deserves a high rating. Just struggle to get into it. But as I listen it growing on me, like 'Love and Anger' probs the guitar that does it for me. But still a bit samey. The guitar work kinda wins it for the album 'Rocket's Tail' is a cool song.

I respect what Kate Bush is doing here — the production is lush and thoughtful — but it mostly washes over me. It’s artful and layered, yet feels detached, more like atmosphere than something I emotionally connect with. I know I’m supposed to be swept away, but it just never quite grabs me.

one strange bitch!!!!

Hounds of Love was better

I respect this but holy shit this is unlistenable at some parts. 3/5

Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Love A Woman’s Work.

Pioneer. Genius.

Very interesting. I mainly enjoyed the ethereal aspect of it. It was fun to listen to.

The clear highlight here is “This Woman’s Work.” Beyond that, the rest of the album is just fine.

This although released at the end of the 80s is a very dated album. Kate bush' voice is one ive found deeply troubling, veering in and out of being tuneful. This woman's work is an absolute work of art though, the rest fairly mundane.

I've loved this album, then I've neglected this album and forgotten about it. It starts off well, sensual world is one of her best opening tracks, then it sort of loses the plot a bit, then "this woman's work" hits and makes it noticeable again. Then it's pretty much over. Not at good as the Dreaming, or Hounds of Love, despite David Gilmour adding a certain flair to it.

Not bad but not great. 3.5

This is my second Kate Bush album. I like this album but it lacks strangeness and beauty that I loved about Hounds of Love. The computer song and "Woman's Work" are the only examples of both to me on this album.

Not more Bush

Pretty good pop album, again some songs were a bit hit or miss for me

01) The Sensual World - 7,5 02) Love and Anger - 7,0 03) The Fog - 6,5 04) Reaching Out - 7,0 05) Heads We're Dancing - 7,0 06) Deeper Understanding - 7,5 07) Between a Man and a Woman - 7,0 08) Never Be Mine - 6,5 09) Rocket's Tail - 6,5 10) This Woman's Work - 7,5 11) Walk Straight Down The Middle - 6,5 TOTAL: 6,95 (70/100) Current ranking: 403/671

This Woman’s Work is a banger but I don’t love the rest of the album all that much. Sorry Kate

3.5 Maybe a 4 with repeated listens

The Sensual World 3 Love and Anger 2.9 The Fog 3.1 Reaching Out 3.3 Heads We're Dancing 3 Deeper Understanding 2.7 Between a Man and a Woman 2.8 Never Be Mine 2.8 Rocket's Tail 2.6 This Woman's Work 2.4 Score: 2.86

Cover 5 I only found out about her because of Stranger Things. Growing up, I only had the radio for music. So, if it didn't play on the radio, I was less likely to know our hear new music or learn about new artists. I'm jealous of people who had older siblings or other family or friends that could introduce them to underground or music not otherwise on the radio. Anyway, Kate Bush never made it to the radio waves where I grew up, so she remained unknown until I was in my thirties, and even then I only knew her name from passing conversations. Not until Stranger Things (in my late forties) did I actually hear anything from her. There are some songs that I like and maybe some day I'll look more into hey catalog. This album, though, didn't entice me to do that today. It's ok. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it either. They're we're one of two that I liked.

Music that inspired the”Twilight” books.

I feel like Kate bush is really mid except every once in a while she’ll accidentally make a really good song. This album lacked good songs

Just over 3 weeks on this album project and I just realized how few female artists I've been served and how I'm mostly awarding my 4/5 star reviews to them. Well today is a good day for another one of the best to ever do it. Kate Bush's legend is legendary in itself. Though outside of the big songs, I'm not familiar with her albums. And that's about to change with immediate effect! This album is very horny. Lots of groans and whispers. I imagine many babies were made to this album. Though it closes with This Woman's Work which is a big, aching ballad that almost doesn't fit here. I'm quite sure she has at least 5 albums that are better than this one.

Sounds both ahead of its time and completely of its time. Some of the songs did not click for me, though.

Didn’t realize she was the original artist of “This Woman’s Work,” another reason why I should know her music much more than I do.

sensual world- 6 or 7 love and anger- 6 the fog- 6 reaching out- 6 or 7 heads we're dancing- 5 deeper understanding- 5 or 6 between a man and woman- 6 never be mine- 5 rockets tail- 5 this womans work- 5 a little to slow for me but i love kate bush

Not the best Kate Bush album but still some interesting songs. I hope this isn't the only Kate Bush album on this because that would be a shame.

I thought this was catchy the first time I listened. Subsequent listens were overly dramatic. Strange but calming voice. She is not pop. She is not rock. She is not alternative. Indont know what she is.

I don’t mind a bit of Kate Bush, but I do really struggle with a whole album. There are moments on here that I really enjoyed, and others than just didn’t work for me. Some of this is well crafted and a bit folkie, other parts a bit hard on the ears, and Rocket’s Tail was too out there and Floydian for me. This Woman’s Work is THE standout track, powerful, painful and has such a beautiful tone

Late 80s Kate Bush. Interesting and floaty. New wave.

I know of her other album but not this one. She's not my style of music to listen to but I do respect what she brings.

Ugh. I LOOVED hounds of love, but this album seems to be rehashing a lot of the sound on that album without the immediacy of that album. The last two songs are perfection, but it was a bit of a slog to get there.
