Reviews (page 7 of 7)

I like Kate Bush but I was disappointed by this album. I found it all a bit insipid. Nothing memorable.

Sorry Kate. I’m bored

Initially very excited by the album, I was let down by a piece of work that didn't feel that well produced. None of the songs really stuck with with me and it felt kind of empty and soulless. She has many great albums, but this one didn't do it for me. I'll just put on the Kick Inside and drift off into the fog.

Not my cup of tea.....

ehhh. different

She’s talented and creative but I don’t really get a ton of that here. Kinda whatever

Not sure what all the hubub is about

The longer that went on the lower and lower the score got. What an annoying grating voice. I’ll give it a 2 because I almost managed to finish it, but that last track was like nails on a chalk board.

Doing this project, I’ve discovered that I’m not a fan of Kate Bush. Her music is boring.

I like Kate Bush. But I like cool synth pop Kate Bush. Not lame, world music, Peter Gabriel-wannabe, songs about dancing with Hitler Kate Bush. Also, how bad was the lighting in this dancing establishment? Hitler is a pretty distinctive looking dude, and given that he was on the front page of the paper the next day, was pretty well known when this story takes place. So some little weirdo comes up to you yelling in German about flipping a coin and dancing and you look at him and he’s got a stupid Hitler mustache and you’re in Berlin or wherever in ‘39 and don’t think to yourself “wait a minute this guy might be Hitler”? I think this is on you lady.

Didn't enjoy this one much.

My senses did not like this. It's a very ethereal and floaty, but that gives it a lot of uncertainty and lack of stability. Her voice is interesting, but it's also all over the place. I just could never feel comfortable listening to this. Favorite Song(s): Reaching Out

if you need music to get ready for the ren faire

For a Kate Bush record, this one is kinda boring. Not that I need songs to have a good hook, but there were none here and meandering felt aimless and uninteresting.

I like the bells at the start of this album - promising and atmospheric. But the track that follows is pretty dreadful: a mish-mash of sounds, with a godawful drum beat throughout. Also, Kate's voice - what happened? So oddly polished. Anyway, the next track is also pretty awful. And so it goes on. Reaching Out made me want to stop listening there and then - so so bad. The only track that stopped this being a one star album is This Woman's Work - although it's not a great version. Disappointing.

A testament to how much sound design can influence the outcome of an album. Feels like Kate Bush was held back by the technical aspects of the recordings. Hopefully some of her classic albums come up later :)

Didn’t really enjoy this. Production was too over-the-top-80s. She’s a good singer but I found her wailing style a bit tiring after a few songs. Not my thing.

The Sensual World Love and Anger This Woman's Work

That is one beautiful and pure voice, and quite boring. I need more than a voice, great though it may be. Not my genre, but must be wonderful for those who are move by it.

No sorry

Having listened to two of her albums in a short span, I can say that her music doesn't work for me. It might be objectively good and beautiful with lush instrumentation and feminine poetry, but that kind of experience doesn't interests me. Here too, the songs are at no fault objectively (except the thin production and the too drowned out vocals on some tracks), but they don't appeal to my sense of beauty like Kate Bush's face does. Liked: The Sensual World, Reaching out, Rocket's tail.

This woman's work is a great song, but I prefer the Maxwell cover. The rest is not really my vibe.

So her voice is mysterious and pretty. I think maybe I just associate it with adult things I didn’t want to understand from the 80s? Like how mauve was a popular color?

People like Kat bush more than I do

Not my thing. It was nice, but i wouldnt listen again

Congealed and monotonous

Try as I might...just don't get Kate Bush. 2/5

Although the singing is of typically high quality the material is just aimless and meandering. Let's the whole thing down and there is better out there. 2.5*

Almost as bad a Bjork, but not as Bjorky.

I dunno it just go meandering all over the place, not being able to tie in pleasant (sometimes) passages together at all. And its evidently not her best album either. Ao eh? NNN

Given enough money and fame, artists tend toward fart sniffing.

Nearly every song sounds identical.

Mostly relaxing, nothing too standout. Has a good transitional 80-90's sound

Her voice lowkey gets kinda annoying. It's very shrill. Not to my taste ngl.

Yes oh yes, having a Molly Bloom, Song of Solomon moment to start things off. Sensual world yes indeed. It has a late 80s bigness to it. It has some moments, but not enough of them to my tastes. I don't ever get a chance to get hold of things.

I’m not sure how I could love Kate Bush and dislike this album so much, but here it is. I disliked everything except the song ‘This Woman’s Work’, which is fantastic.

Ни рыба ни мясо

I thought the Maxwell version of This Woman's Work was the original. Either way, this was a dreary slog, tedious. Hard to review - This Woman's Work is brilliant, but the rest feels like an empty repeat of her previous work. The Hounds of Love album, just a few years prior, is brilliant. Just scrapes a 1.5.

Developed a bit of a thing for Kate Bush during my PhD years, thanks in part to Luke so was looking forward to this.... Was pretty disappointed though :( Too artsy for me and none of the hits I wanted to hear. I see a public review called what Kate has here "bjorkitis" or something which is accurate. 2, but I'm sure we will have better Kate Bush albums coming. Sorry Kate This woman's work was the best track

Was ok.

Nope. Really didn't have to listen to this before I die.

You really have to be in the mood for Kate Bush or else she sounds horrible. Wasn’t in the mood today :( The maximalist yet abrasive sound is just too much

The Sensual World (track) is an interesting song that uses some egyptian sounding scales. Rocket's Tail has some nice singing and guitar solo. Overall a pretty dreary album I couldn't get into.

This is the third Kate Bush album on this list. It is a weird album. I didn't really care for it and no song stood out in particular.

listened 2x on 4/15/24. reminds me of Tori Amos / Bjork but not as good. 1.8/5

They can’t all be winners. This album I found pretty boring. Most of the songs sounded very similar and while I appreciate her vocal range, it just did not move the needle.

I'm really just waiting for the album to end. It's kind of terrible.

Very chaotic in a boring way. 2/5

Unique voice but not my jam.

honestly just can't remember it anymore and that's ok by me. Nothing bad to say, but nothing great either really Will I listen to again: 0%

The Sensual World This Woman's Work

it's very new wave the sensual world love and anger heads we're dancing

I had to get up multiple times to make sure my cats were okay. Nope, just Kate Bush singing

I wanted to like this album but none of the songs really did anything for me. Overly meandering and operatic.

Warbler, boring

This album felt like music played in the background of an early 90's cd-rom of a slideshow featuring grainy landscape photos. So you can imagine my surprise and laughter when Kate tells us how to operate a computer in Deeper Understanding. This album is just plain boring and keeps the same droning energy throughout.

Maybe I’m just in a bad mood but I did not enjoy this album. The song about the computer was very dated and I enjoyed that. But otherwise this one was a bit of a dud

Previously rated: The Dreaming (2/5) *********************** Sorry, Kate. I still can't get into your music. I think this one was more straight-forward then The Dreaming, but I still couldn't connect to it in any way. I started zoning out after a while. I barely remember anything about it after listening to it yesterday.

Not for me

Am not super familiar with Kate Bush despite the recent renaissance in her pop culture relevancy. She seems great, but is just not for me.

There are Kate Bush songs that I really like, but non if them are on this album. It was very whiney.

This is the second Kate Bush album in like two weeks (after "Hounds of Love"). I was iffy on HoL, but liked it more after a couple listens. Might be the same with this album, but... I only listened once. Not really my cup of tea. She has a good voice, but it's just a bit too 80s, too theatrical, not enough hooks for me.

I liked "Love and Anger" (hello, David Gilmour!) Unfortunately, the rest of it just didn't hold my attention. I imagine that we will see "Hounds of Love" at some point, and I will feel the exact same way.

Maybe I wasn't in the proper mood for this, but I did not enjoy anything about it. Possibly multiple listens would change my opinion, but I struggled to get through it once.

ik ben niet zo van de etherisch achtige muziek van deze meid

Not gonna lie, this was kind of a slog to get through. Some of the instrumentation was nice in certain parts but that’s all I really enjoyed. Can anyone else understand a word she’s saying?? It’s like every word is whispered. Say it with your chest lady!! But alas, probably should just be remembered as a one hit wonder. If I want to listen to some 80s power ballads I think I’ll look elsewhere.

Sounded very experimental and all over the place. Leading with the title song is always interesting to me, because it would be like starting a movie with the climax. Kate Bush hit a lot of different sounds on the album, but to me it feels like something of its own time. I imagine it was quite groundbreaking when it came out, but so was the Atari. With that in mind, I’m not going to go out of my way to play an Atari.

I knew Kate Bush’s music was experimental but I didn’t know it was this far out there. Every song seems to be different and the only thing that remains the same is the 80s sound. Each song tells a story so it’s great for those that pay attention to lyrics. All that being said, I don’t know if I’ll go searching for more Kate Bush music after this, except for Runnin Up That Hill. Solid songs were Love and Anger, Never Be Mine, the breakdown on Rocket’s Tail, and This Woman’s Work. This album is a two in my personal opinion, but I could be swayed to a one or a three based on the argument.

I am a huge Kate Bush fan! That is as long as she is singing a song that has recently regained popularity for being a major plot point in a prestige TV show that is heavily nostalgic for the 80's. Outside of that, I'm not really a Kate Bush fan.

I may have been overloaded with Running Up That Hill in recent times - it’s been less than 24 hours since I listened and I couldn’t tell you anything about its contents, spare from the cover art looking like Liza Minelli

80s synth pop with airy vocals. Not my jam, but I get it's popularity

Not for me

Please make the Kate Bush albums stop.

Not the worst, but pretty boring for me. Sorry kids.

A little too sweet and sickly for my liking.

Most of the songs sound the same. Great singing voice but it all bleeds together. Someone else reviewed that she just sings aimlessly and there's no hooks or melody, and that's spot on. Overall a rough listen, not a 1 star solely because she has a good voice

It’s ok

I really don’t “get” Kate Bush. She has a ton of critical acclaim and success, but just doesn’t click with me. I’m not the biggest fan of her singing voice. The production and instrumentals, however, were lush and divine. Reminded me of Pink Floyd in some spots.

Honestly a bit one note and 80’s to a fault

Not her best album, not a genre best album, not a decade best album. Had a few interesting backing tracks, but doesn't elevate it.

instrumental was good but lyrics were weird and bad

Not a big fan, fantastic singer, but the music itself wasn’t up my alley.

probably wont listen again but one song was pretty good. think it was the 3rd

I actually quite like Kate Bush - the theatrical flourishes combined with the quality of her voice and the strong lyrics are a really good combination in theory. And when it works, it works really well - This Woman's Work is a great example of that on this album. But it doesn't work often enough; this album probably has a bit too much going on in terms of instrumentals and backing vocal tracks, and the weird squeaking noises she makes all too often put me off a bit. This album is decent at the beginning, better at the end, and not good at all in the middle. A high 2, doesn't quite deserve a 3.

Again background music, boring and just not for me

The Sensual World is the sixth album by the English art rock singer Kate Bush. This poppy art rock album has been certified platinum in the UK and gold in the US. It performed well commercially and critically. I like Kate Bush's singing voice, but this album did not do it for me. Nothing grabbed my attention and the album ended up being background noise while I got work done. Not sure why this Kate Bush album wasn't as good as the last one I listened to, but oh well. You can't create masterpieces every time.

I tried. I really love her voice, but this was such late 80's production drivel, I can't.

Het is gewoon niet mijn ding, niets aan te doen.

Too haunted and arty

It's fine, I felt like I was in Scotland but I find Kate a bit to much like a fairy for me to relate to

Despite how quirky, unique, iconic and influential she maybe be, I find the music pretty boring. At some point this album went from background indifference to active annoyance, so 2 stars it is.

This is our second Kate Bush album, and it appears she's not for me.

от Кейт Буш у меня к сожалению детская травма, не уверена что могла бы её оценить при любых обстоятельствах сейчас

Nothing interesting here for me. The lyrics are meh, and there's very little vocal range shown. Instrumentals nothing to write home about either. Just background music mostly. Favorite track: The Fog

Now I know where in the '80s did Taylor Swift got those atmospheric pop thingy stuffs. Still, this album is as fuzzy and boring as an '80s pop album can be. Not a fan of Kate Bush and listening to two of her most influential albums didn't change my mind.

Zawiedziony jestem.

I came into this not expecting to like this. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the various interesting instruments she used; sometimes I felt like it was an imaginary soundtrack that played along as I was riding a white horse in the Scottish Highlands and so that was kind of cool. But that's about all that I found enjoyable in this album. I couldn't get past the very dated-sounding '80s production and her breathy, odd voice. She tends to go on these weird, warbling runs, and it sounds very unpleasant to my ears. For someone who likes this type of music, I am sure this is a very enjoyable album.

Extremely 80s. Kate Bush singing is dreamy and very artsy. I have a hard time enjoying this and it's the same issue as with Björk. I do like some Kate Bush songs but this album was a miss for me.

not my style

I never really listened to her and only recently heard a good bit of her music thanks to the use of her song "Running up that Hill" on the show "Stranger Things". It's a nice album. I don't love the overall sound though. The blend of her voice's tonal qualities, performances, with the music behind her is just alright to me. I think this is a 2/5 for me.

Ze zingt niet slecht en de muziek is ook prima om te luisteren. Helaas gaat mij dat hoge toontje (van de stem van Kate) snel vervelen. **

Don't know if it's just my mood but this doesn't really vibe with me at all.

Didn't do much for me. Not even worth a relisten.

Tylsä

Not really my bag, baby. Too much dream-, not enough -pop.

Not my vibe but can see it as being ahead of it's time, perhaps.

I only just recently heard of Kate Bush after she became famous again for her song Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) being used in the Netflix series Stranger Things. That song is a weird 80's pop song, so I assumed this album would be similar. I was correct. Kate Bush is like if Madonna was a much less sexual, artsy hipster who wrote shitty poetry that requires an engineering degree to comprehend and has no discernable rhyming scheme, then paired it up to very bland, 80's pop music that it doesn't mesh with. There are so many layers of sound and shit going on on this album, that for the whole album, I had to read her lyrics because I could barely hear and discern them behind the noise of the backing music. For example, I mostly heard moaning in the song The Sensual World until she started talking about her breasts for some reason. Since her lyrics are so confusing, here's what I gathered from some of the songs on this album: In the song Heads We're Dancing, Hitler told her he was flipping a coin, and if it landed on heads, they were dancing... In the song Deeper Understanding she became obsessed with her computer because it showed her the "love and deeper understanding" which she wasn't getting from people. It became so bad, people had to intervene... I think in the song Rocket's Tail, she dresses up like a rocket, jumps off of a bridge, and kills herself?!?.... Fucked if I know....here are some of the lyrics from that song: I put on my cloudiest suit Size 5 lightning boots, too 'cause I am a rocket On fire Look at me go, with my tail on fire This Woman's Work is actually a heartbreaking song about watching a loved one die, the first song on this album to actually have a clear direction and theme. She took to making bird calls in the song Walk Straight Down The Middle for some fucking reason. Overall, a very weird album. Not something I will ever listen to again, but points for her voice, it is actually beautiful. And the music, even though it didn't jive with the lyrics at all, was decent as well. Favourite song: Rocket's Tail, This Woman's Work Least favourite songs: The Sensual World, Love and Anger, Reaching Out, Never Be Mine, Walk Straight Down the Middle 2/5

2.5 really

Kate Bush's music seems to suffer from the "you've heard one, you've heard them all" syndrome. That's fine if you're a fan of the music she makes. If you're not a fan, it's easy to get bored and tune out. The dreamy, ethereal quality of her songs can be really compelling, but it also has great potential in putting you to sleep. That said, I did enjoy Heads We're Dancing.

Good voice, but for me it has nothing special. The album stays quitte the same.

Listened Before? N These Kate Bush albums are sooooo depressing and boring. I get it, she was a pioneer (of sorts). I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tori Amos may have stolen her style but she did it better and still does. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: This Woman's Work

Just the other day I told my project buddy that I'd rather kiss Steve Harvey on the mouth than listen to Kate Bush. The universe was listening, so I got this album. Musically and lyrically, she's great. Her voice, however, is like watching interpretive dancers being strangled. I will admit, I take back what I said about Steve. But that's not because I changed my mind about Kate Bush, ! just really hate Steve Harvey.

weak sauce. Didn’t age well

Couldn't vibe with it.

It’s not cloud busting Cover art 3/5

I will say I probably rated the first late bush album too low. Running up the hill is a great song and it should’ve been more so 3 stars. But this one was pretty average pop all around. She has a great singing voice and none of the songs were that weird this time but I found it pretty easy to listen to but nothing too exciting on it. 4.0/10

Marginally better than the last Kate Bush album I got. Not a direct assault on my ears, but a boring background music that irritated me.

What is sensual is so personal that it is easier to come off as cheesy or spacey than meeting the moment. I don't know if she is off vibe or I am. Either way, I could not connect with this album until midway through. I really like the power in Kate Bush's voice. At her best on this album, she's a fusion between Tori Amos and Cyndi Lauper with powerful songwriting. There are just not enough of those moments to really power the full flight.

Not for me

Running up that hill has been getting all the attention, but it isn't even on this album. Anyone remember the Seinfeld episode with the soft talker? That's what Kate Bush reminds me of. She may as well be singing in a different language.

Entirely forgettable. I don’t remember one thing about this album and I just listened to it a couple hours ago.

wasn't as crazy as I expected, went by quite unnoticed

It’s not bad, but overall kind of meh

3/29/22

I can kind of appreciate Kate Bush, but it's not my thing.

Not really a fan but can see why people would like it. 5/10.

Escuché otro disco de ella y me gustó bastante más. No es malo, pero no me dice nada. Prescindible.

Didnt enjoy anything in the album.A very repetitive and lazy record. The Contents were almost the same though out the end. Also too much reverb. without reading the lyrics I wouldn't understand a word. Two stars just for the voice.

Esperava mais pelo título.

Nothing extremely memorable here - several tracks felt on the verge of taking off, but stayed at frustratingly mid-tempo paces. Lots of delivery with little payoff

Eh. Not a huge fan. Some of it felt like tv music some felt like 80s sex music but all of it had pretty lame vocals

Distinctively Kate Bush. Unique, restful and spacey, but not really my cup of tea, except for the album closer, 'This Woman's Work', which is ace. 2/5

Not her best effort

Always enjoyed a bit of Bush, however this was not for me.

Not great

Je j’ai pas vraiment aime et je ne me souviens d’aucune chnaon lemlendemain. 2.75

I enjoyed Hounds of Love, but this one, not so much...

Heads we're dancing sympa! Chiant dans l'ensemble mais artiste très respectable

I didn't really like this one. I just couldn't get down with the style that this album was going for. I also really just did not like Kate Bush's voice. To me, the best song was the last one. Compared to the rest of the album, I really liked it's more straightforward approach and production, if that's the right word.

too ethereal for me.

Couldn’t get into in.

Second Listen. It's funny because I like Kate Bush. This album doesn't do it for me except one song: This Woman's Work. Reminds of the end of the movie: She's Having a Baby. Great. Standouts: This Woman's Work.

First Listen. Couple classics. nice album.

Viel me tegen, ik had er wel meer van verwacht.

Overall eclectic and not really my style, but very well-produced. Some tracks like "This Woman's Work" are moving, others are honestly just grating.

No thank you

I guess this world is not for me.

It's tough I listened to this three times and admittedly didn't give it undivided attention but it just didn't grab me. Cool sound, but that's about all it did for me Saved: The Fog*

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: The Sensual World, The Fog, Heads We're Dancing Cutting Edge: This Woman's Work Overall Notes: Some cool songwriting but it didn't really click for me as a full project. I'm afraid that I'm a simple man who wants some kind of hook. 2.5 rounded down but I'm still excited to hear more from her later in the list.

not as good as her debut

Give me Kate bush bangers

Not a fan! Don't get it!

seichter 80/90er Pop...

Interesting but not for me

I really wanted to like this album, but I just couldn’t get into it. Her vocals were good, but the overall sound of the album just didn’t quite work for me.

Good album to throw on when the mood calls for it.

Not much for me here. Breathy vocals and an ethereal sound, but the stories being told were not very interesting for me. Deeper Understanding stands out as particularly odd, apparently to make a phone call you have to 'press execute' hahaha

Was okay but felt kinda bored

Meh. Overwrought

It’s broadly fine, but bar the odd moment or two I found it pretty tedious and unremarkable. Can’t see myself going back to it for another listen so it’s a 2/5 for me.

Buena paranoia. Si fiera rapero samplearía cosillas

Can’t be having her - barely made it through

I love Kate Bush, but this album is just boring!

Breathy, dreamy and slightly odd. Just what would be expected from a Kate Bush album. Best Tracks: The Sensual World, Love and Anger, Heads We're Dancing

Not for me. Better than Kraftwerk.

Didn’t love it. A few good songs.

Just not my jam, although I think I am far from the target audience

to me, generic female solo 80s album. no skips or offense, but likely will forget this by tomorrow and won't listen to again.

I can understand the importance of this album or even the importance of Kate Bush, but her songs are absolutely not for me....anything between an elevator song and strange 70's rock. Sounds like a bad flashback playlist.

The question is...have I had enough Bush? Somehow the answer is Yes :) I sampled each song enough to be affirmed that I'm much more of a chest man.

Okay, I really liked Hounds of Love, but this album is not *nearly* as enjoyable. Two albums deep into the Bush, I think I can safely say that I love Kate when she's being WEIRD, and that I cannot stand her when she is playing by the numbers. I think about 80% of this album is by the numbers. The standout exceptions are The Fog and Deeper Understanding. The Fog features some frantic rhythms and fun soundbites. Deeper Understanding is WEIRD and FUN. I love the story of Kate falling in love with a computer. Extremely prescient for 1989. Probably won't ever listen to this again until I literally die

Forgettable will-o-wisp pop.

Lame af

This wasn't terrible, but her voice did get to me after a while.

not for me

Not as 'sensual' as I thought it would be. The singing is whisper soft while the instrumentals seem to crowd over them. The title track is good but I found most almost too hard to get into(at least lyrically) due to the soft singing.

Not bad in the background

Ok, Kate Bush! 2 Sterne.

I think I really liked every other song

Rating this as a 2 is a bit of a breakthrough. Growing up I hated Kate Bush so much just the mere mention of her name would elicit groans from me. This album isn't horrible, surprisingly. It's not really my kind of thing, but it's listenable and there are some really interesting things happening in the music and arrangements. I don't hate it.

Meh. I didn’t like this as much as I thought I would.

This Woman’s Work is an absolute banger. Apart from that she kinda drones on.

Sleep and boring. Not my jam

Forgot most of it by the time I'm writing this review so that says most of it. The Fog was memorable and enjoyable, the rest of the record not so much.

A couple of the songs aren't too bad tbh but it's also full of whimsical artsy stuff that leaves me cold. Sometimes you can hear her lips smack cause the mic is so close to her mouth to pick up the waifier moments... ew. Styles itself as high art because the lyrics are based on penguin classics etc. Not my thing but it also comes across as a total labour of love. 2/5.

I always feel like I should like Kate Bush, but then I listen and there’s just too much pointless warbling.

Terrible voice. Melodies sound like they’re being made up on the spot. Instrumentation is trash and lacks tonality.

This had me running down that hill.

I don’t know where to begin. Even if you can get past the feigned vocal morphing to hide an absence of range or get past the 90s teen-pop-star-esque lyrics, play the last 20 seconds of ‘Love And Anger’ into the first 20 seconds of ‘The Fog’ and please explain to me how this is an artist that takes their craft seriously.

This sounds like it was made for middle aged women on a retreat to regain their sexuality

Painful to listen to. I think I managed to listen most of it though

I don't like Kate Bush.

Really not my cup of tea

1.6/5 Not really for me

why she so sensual wit it Lowk listened to two songs

I dunno not for me. I mean yeah Bush is an incredible vocalist I just find the music uninteresting even though it seems like it tries to be interesting. Two stars I guess? Maybe just one? Eh.

Fuck off

Not my thing at all

Not mine

Don’t get me wrong I quite like Kate Bush. I even own this LP on vinyl. But it’s rubbish. She’s done the late 80’s thing of getting big name musicians in - Alan Stivel, Mick Karn, the Bulgarian Voices. And some of the performances are good. But it results in an incoherent mush with Kate wailing above.

Okay, not my thing.

Not for me.

lol no

Screeching.

Warbling of the lowest order

Bordel que c'était nul à chier par terre.

There are so many boring songs on this album.

This album is from when she had started making music to please herself, and not the buying public. And why shouldn't she. In essence that is what all musicians should do. And it's where Kurt Cobain fell down. But it means your left with an album that is all filler, no thriller. Earlier albums all had a couple of hit singles on them, this has nothing. Why should it? If that is what she wants then why not, but in all honesty I can't give it higher than a 1. For me this has nothing going for it.

Surprised how much I disliked this album. Felt very unsatisfying, and a lot of songs were lacking any real sound depth or counter-melodies in lower voices. There is also a register that Kate Bush hits at least once a song that I find very grating.

It's not often I'm left scratching my head asking "Who is this for, exactly?", but that is exactly what happened by the time I'd reached track three of "The Sensual World." If you told me that the people of East Berlin tore the Berlin Wall down to get away from a Soviet-attendance-mandated Kate Bush concert in 1989 I would believe you, no questions. "This Woman's Work" is the only tolerable song on this album. It has been put to good use in charity appeal commercials over the years.

Bit shit innit? 1 star.

Mostly weird. Didn't enjoy it really.

Progressive Pop with a vocalists which wander aimlessly, rarely, if ever, approaching anything resembling a melody, let alone a legitimate hook while loosing me exhausted by trying to follow.

Can't do it. I have tried enough times over the decades (even went to her concert) and have had to surmise that there’s really no depth to about 90% of her meandering soft focus new age depresso-pop. Others will disagree vehemently, but for me there is only one worthy listen on this album and it is This Woman's Work.

Just does nothing for me.

All the songs sounded the same - high pitched and a little warbly, very 80s. I'm not personally a fan.

Not my thing at all, last song is okay! 1.5

Not my kind of music

Unlistenable.

There are two types of people in the world - people who hate Kate Bush and absolutely insane that need to have a CAT scan.

Just not a fan of Kate Bush. I really don't get what makes her special for folks.

I didn’t know Bush’s music beyond her Wuthering Heights hit til i listened to bit of this album. It doesn’t mean much, her songs, just cute pop music. Meh.

Another Kate Bush….geez…..ugh…..

Sigh, I already feel uneasy about listening to this album. It's probably the hardest listen so far of this challenge. This Woman's work was my only highlight, solely because they used it in an It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode. 1/10

English Yoko Ono. Interesting instrumentation and presentation but it just comes out as "Tears for Fears but worse". Fav Track: Between a Man and a Woman (I guess)

Not working

This shit sucks

If I was sitting down when I was listening to this I would've fallen asleep.

This album comes across very dated and I hated the mixing, it sounded like she was really far away. Far too New Wavey sounding for me.

She's got a distinct sound, style, vocal, and musical arrangement that just isn't similar to anyone else. It is unclear to me how Kate Bush can have more than one album in the 1001 collection when they all sound the same.

really not my favorite.

Running up that Hill seems to be her only good song.

Nothing here I could really say Id want to listen to again.

I respect Kate Bush as an artist but I do not like this album. She has some much better work. Some of this borders on unlistenable for me. 'This Woman's Work' is almost a song I really like.

Not my style

I didn't like the first Kate Bush album we had to listen to, and I like this one less. Like a lot less. This annoyed the crap out of me. Her voice is just so annoying.

That was a struggle. Her voice was grating, there were weird string accompaniments that felt really outta place. Even the hit "This Woman's Work" seemed really abbreviated. I like to think I have a somewhat wide taste in music as far at least tolerating different varieties but this one was testing that.

Fuck off Kate Bush.

Stop that whining please

fucking hell, how many kate bush albums are there?

After eating a whole head of human shit for brunch, I wasn't in the mood to listen to this wretched record, which has more in common with a lost amazonian tribe that it does with modern music. An exceptional waste of time and effort.

HEATHCLIFF! IT'S ME, I'M CATHY. I'VE COME HOOOOMMME! If that's not on this, I'm not interested.

Couldn’t make it through this one

Couldn'y really get into it. The music felt a little to all over the place. And I kept hearing instruments sounding either off tune or out of sync with the rest of the band. I'm sure it was styled that way, but just didn't sound right to me.

I do like Kate's voice.....in 1-2 song increments. But the songs themselves were not that good. It's almost like they just slapped together some music and figured that nobody would notice because of her voice. Honestly, except for "This Woman's Work", it sounded like she was singing the same tune just with different backing tracks.

This reminded me of everything I hated about 80s pop. I delayed it all day until I was cleaning the house. I put it on all the speakers in the background, and it still managed to ruin housecleaning.

No thanks

In that section of the world of arts where things are weird seemingly deliberately, "The Sensual World" is right at home. Kate Bush seems to sing from the back of her throat, very rarely belting out lyrics from her whole being. The title track paints a desperate overly saturated picture of a romance novel's cover art, heavily implicating that maybe this album is not just by a woman, but perhaps even for women. In the world of 1989 finding love in a computer from a program ordered from a magazine is either super weird or remarkably prescient, or both. "Deeper Understanding" could have been a metaphor in 1989, but today a person might hear the song and wish for a voice console that meets intimate needs. The addictive properties of personal computing that current (2022) society deals with compared to how it was in 1989 is largely amplified to include the need for family interventions. As the song progresses, even the lyrics break down into the broken brevity of computed language. As far as an opinion on the album, at least this is slightly better than Suzanne Vega anything, and that's generous.

this is effing boring

Yeah this one is a big NOPE from me. Couldn't wait for it to be over.

Really not good. 0 recognized songs

Not my style except the classic “this woman’s work” for the culture

I thought there wasn’t a contender to Janet Jackson. Boy was I wrong this is infinitely worse. Who rated this album? Someone obviously had tinnitus from a young age which has muffled their hearing

Must have got this album mixed up with the 1001 worst albums of all time! Absolutely awful.

A voz da senhora é insuportável, é tao esganiçada, os instrumentos também não ajudam, parecem ter uma sonoridade opressora, e juntando com esta voz só peço socorro. Nota:2/10

Terrible

Hm, känns verkligen som något typ Kristian Luuk älskar. För mig, inte så vidare värst bra. Nej, gillar inte soundet helt enkelt.

I don't know what the odds are but I am disappointed i got two kate bush albums in a row. As I said in my last review I really don't like her style, so I didn't even listen to the album. The first 2 songs were listenable but not enjoyable didn't even go any further. 1/5 ):

I don't find her shake-voice compelling or pleasant to listen to. She should have been a poet. Best track: This Woman's Work
