hell yeah its another jazz banger. and this ones silky smooth. it feels very modern somehow, not what i expected at all for a 1969 release. miles davis was really cooking with this one. i still havent figured out how to talk about jazz properly but i really enjoy the mellow vibe on this album. as always i fuck with the electric organ incredibly and davis' trumpet is sounding crazy soulful. i especially love how it gets borderline ambient midway through, stripped down to just the guitar, electric piano and a little soft & delicate trumpet all vibing out in the reverb. this is it...... the sound im here for......... i'm already on my like 6th or 7th listen so u know it's getting a 5. this whips. i love music.....

Likely all the Miles albums are going to be 5s for me. Haven’t listened to this one in awhile. Yeah, it’s a 5. So beautiful. Just two tracks. Miles was a genius. 5 Boolean: true, one great thing about this exercise is it’s getting me to really listen to and think about jazz in a way I haven’t in years

Miles Davis was a gift. He was not afraid to always experiment and grow. That's why he is the best trumpet player. I like this album more than "Bitches Brew," but "Kind of Blue" will forever be my favorite.

10 Stars

We're going to get high and listen to Miles. Listening to In a Silent Way feels like stepping into a different world. The whole record is deeply dreamy and hypnotic. I found myself completely lost in those two 20-minute movements. It’s fascinating to hear electric guitar, bass, and piano at the centre of a Miles Davis album. There is a clear foundation of modal jazz but it's shifting away into what will become jazz fusion. The two tracks both have a cyclical, developmental nature which moves through evolving tensions. The hi-hats drive a lot of the momentum and give an anchor point away from the bass as a rhythmic centre, like time ticking as everything floats around it. I was also intrigued by the editing. There are some strange, noticable cuts throughout the tracks, and I expect there was a lot more I couldn't hear. This, along with some other layering and looping, makes it clear how much composition was done post-recording. I also wonder if the hi-hats are looped because they just keep going for 18 minutes each track. I’m not sure if this was a purely experimental choice for 1969, but it feels surprisingly modern. In a way, it’s not much different from how music is sliced, rearranged, or looped in a modern DAW. Overall I really enjoyed exploring this record. It's moody, atmospheric, and is an important step in the development of jazz. As an existing fan I'll no doubt listen again. 5/5

I love this shit. Miles just had innovation in his bones. This album is like two matrices of sounds, with instruments painting interpretations and flourishes over the dots and lines of the drum patterns. Very futuristic and relentlessly groovy.

90/100. Stillness is often mistaken for emptiness. Yet some of the richest experiences arise when movement slows enough for subtler forms of perception to emerge. This album feels less like something you listen to and more like something you sink into. Miles Davis is remarkably restrained here, often using the trumpet sparingly and focusing instead on atmosphere, texture and flow. The transitions are seamless, the grooves drift naturally from one idea to the next, and the music seems to float rather than move. It is dreamy, hypnotic, and incredibly calming. I got a strong evening vibe from it, the kind of record that feels made for watching the world slow down after sunset. Yet I listened to it in the morning and it worked just as well. The electric pianos sound fantastic, adding warmth and atmosphere without ever demanding attention. Combined with the repetitive structures and gentle improvisation, they create a sound that feels modern. In many ways, the album anticipates ambient music years before the genre fully emerged. There is very little urgency here. Instead, the focus is on creating a space for the listener to exist within. The music slowly washes over you until you stop analyzing it and simply experience it.

miles music is so fascinating to listen to. just so vibrant and expressive i love it so much

Sometimes this list throws real duds at you... But then they throw in Miles Davis, who is in a complete other league. Funny how it works.

Great album. The medium of today doesn’t do it justice since there’s two 20 minute tracks and that’s it. Makes it hard to listen to in the car. But this is a great album.

i think over all it s a good album ? i'm saying this not because i liked it as an individual but because of the historical impact. I have a hard time relating to the music or understanding what it wants me to feel. I get a general sense of confusion, which i am sure is intentional on his part. The first song i just really didnt like, i had a really hard time with it, but second one especially around 15:40 i really loved. The guitar is really smooth, its absolutely enchanting, kinda like remembering a magic childhood memory that shaped you into who you are today. It's so simple yet so impactful. I really like the end of the second track. I wish he would just slice the songs more to have more tracks :( i'm just not the audience i think --- Having sat with it now the whole night, i really changed my opinion on it, or at least for the second track. The guitar at the beginning is so soft but evocatif, I cried while listening to it. It s hard to put into words why it hit me so hard but it did. Even now I get emotional thinking about the beginning of that piece. I like the middle way more too, I'm starting to understand the jazz feel of it. I can t say I understand these tracks but I am starting to appreciate them more. ---- This is a master piece, magic in musical form

Davis assembles a who’s who of up and coming talent to dip a toe into rock - yielding wonderfully enjoyable results.

probably his best. quiet, spiritual, yet grips you tight for your attention and never lets go. some of the greatest guitar work on a jazz album i have ever heard (not surprisingly)

One of my favorite jazz records. The sounds and vibes are just phenomenal. Extremely good musicality from excellent musicians. 5/5

This was exquisite from start to finish. First record I've played back to back instantly. I don't know jazz or the history of jazz. But what I know is how it made me feel. And it was warm, rich, sad, happy, beautiful and real.

two tracks hell yeah incredible. even tho it only has one track per side, you could still hear distinct sections within each--especially on the second side. the ability for a few--what, five?--musicians to just play something this flawless astounds me. 5/5

Phenomenal

This is beautiful, adventurous and mind expanding. It blends electric with analog instruments and creates something that goes beyond the standard definitions of jazz. It's transcendental space music destined to aliens. Brilliant stuff.

Richtig gut anzuhören

Phänomenal

This is tasty. Side 2 is a vibe.

Maybe it’s cause I’m watching twin peaks right now but this album fits that mood perfectly - mysterious, kind of weird, but deeply pulling and attentive. I felt very focused listening to this. May have to keep it for a study session.

Hermoso álbum, son solo 2 temas de 30 minutos y la verdad lo voy escuchando en el bus a ramcagua viendo el sol del amanecer. Muy poético el pana miles

A very solid ambient, atmospheric jazz record. Miles never misses. 5/5

If you actually like music, not just pop/rock/hip-hop you will love this album.

ля какой ляяя джаз

sublime

A masterpiece indeed

HELL YEAH I LIKE THIS A LOT

Shhhhhh

I wanted to give it a 4, but the album consists of only two tracks — honestly, I wish more albums were like that. Jokes aside, the second song is 10/10 — so many layers in one piece, and it all sounds absolutely magnificent. The first song feels more like a typical jam session — maybe I'll come to appreciate it over time

The album feature was amazing. It was an incredible journey. Low key made me a fan of Jazz. It was amazing to hear it was a controversial release in it's day. I suppose people were averse to the idea of mixing rock elements into jazz. They were fools.

Miles Davis, absolutely beautiful. What can I say more?

I loved it!

A really phenomenal listen. Gave this a shot during an early sunny morning and it was soooo damn gooooood! waaahaaaaaaahooooo!

chill. this is the good stuff.

Insane jarvis

============================================== ============================================== ============================================== ============================================== MILES DAVIS - IN A SILENT WAY (1969) ============================================== ============================================== CALIFICACIÓN ★★★★★ ============================================== ============================================== ============================================== ============================================== Antes de este había escuchado "Are You Experienced", y la verdad que esto me pareció una especie de fusión, entre el jazz y el rock psicodélico, y la verdad que lo terminé escuchando dos veces seguidas sin fricción, disfrutable de principio a fin...

I'm far from an expert, but for my money, this is the best jazz has ever sounded. Genuine perfection. I obviously love music, but I very rarely feel music as much as I do while listening to this masterpiece.

One of like 70 perfect Miles records. A big step toward the unknown that he further explores on Bitches Brew.

OHHH MY GOD one of the greatest artists oat and v excited to get to his other albums in this list highlights: shhh / peaceful, in a silent way 4.5/5

It was very good

Spacey fusion — inspired Grateful Dead & they played together at the Fillmore in 1970

Fantastic listen. I prefer this to Bitches Brew.

Loved it. Listened to other Miles Davis afterwards

Very glad to discover this album. It truly is a diamond. Moody and imaginative.

Favorite Track: In a Silent Way Least Favorite Track: Shhh / Peaceful

BUENISIMO AL FIN UN 5 ESTRELLAS Me hizo acordar un poco a la canción de coraline en el jardín Hermoso Muy original el formato

The best jazz album ever. An older example of what would later become ambient. Atmosphere here is unmatched, instrumentation is top tier, there is literally nothing I could bring against this album. Beautifully made.

Good Jazz

Gave me TPAB vibes!! Loved the psychedelic sound of the record and the sounds panning from one ear to another.

This is a classic!!! The start of the electric Miles!!! Three of the greatest ever on keys - Hancock, Corea, and Zawinal!!! Tony Williams in drums, McLaughlin on guitar, Shorter on sax!!! Wow, every note from everyone is pure gold!!

milles viaja muito na maionese, muito bom pra escrever enquanto fuma um cigarro na cozinha. 10/10

ho ascoltato questo calmo album in 4/14/2026 la sera della laurea di francesco.

It’s not really my thing, but five stars on the merits.

the Joni Mitchell’s Blue of copying and pasting as a compositional masterstroke

Two incredible records in two days. We are on a streak here.

love miles

This was neat. Really enjoyed it, liked the way it flowed. I really don't know enough about jazz to give a better review. Nice palette cleanser.

Wow! Like wow and wow and wow

Wow this was fucking good. I've always been a huge fan of blues and psychedelic rock, and this album generator has made me realize that I'm kind of a fan of jazz as well. This album was like a perfect mix of the 3 genres, It blew me away. Reading the reviews is hilarious. Great reminder of how polarizing music can be, especially jazz specifically.

I almost never listen to jazz but when I hear Miles Davis it just fills me up. I love it, I wonder what else I am missing in this genre

……………………………………………………….🤩

Amazing

First class

FUCK I love Miles Davis

2 songs. over 40 mins. oh HELL yess its a jazzternoon.

When you think of jazz ,one of the all-time greats is Miles. Artists still use him as a template for great jazz music, today. Never gets old listening to his music.

Jazz is exploration into the limits of music. The best jazz artists shatter those limits. Miles Davis made a career pushing the boundaries of music. He could have settled in and kept making "Kind of Blue" but he didn't. That's only part of the reason that Miles Davis is one of the most important American musicians ever.

This was my first time experience with Miles Davis and I loved it!

Magical. This record was sitting in my brain as some faded memory. I cannot lie that the length of this record felt a little daunting at first (just two songs- yikes!!!!)- but it was so impressively beautiful. Is this a divisive Miles Davis pick and the beginning of his electro era? Sure- but I was so on board in the first two minutes. LOVE! IT!

Miles Davis always deliver good music, good album.

Grandisimas perlas del jazz, esta sacado el negro. Shh/Peacefull es un temazo para escuchar en loop

😻 EXCITING! I was sooo excited when I saw that this was today's album. 😅 I didn't know that this was what started Miles' fusion era and....I LOVE IT! 🌟 I fell in love with "Kind of Blue" earlier this year. I've listened to it closely enough to be able to appreciate what's similar and different about this album. 🎺 This album is a fantastic example of what I truly L-O-V-E about jazz. I would need to listen a bunch more times but I am sooo glad this came up today. I was as excited at the prospect as am at the actual exercise.

Holy moly this is so good. I could listen to this daily for the rest of my life on not tire of it. In fact I might just do that. 5.0/5.0 Best Song: both of them

Genius, sort of transcends anything else we have listened to so far, just absolutely incredible music, so atmospheric and moody and dramatic. Miles was the cooest man of all time

I'd not listened to this before - given it's two long tracks I suspect this doesn't make its way onto many playlists or lists. But I really, really liked this. Brings in more modern stuff (like keyboard), hugely enjoyable listen. Five stars, would buy the album.

Miles Davis – In a Silent Way (1969) On Day 96, I found an absolute masterpiece. "Shhh/Peaceful" perfectly showcases the fusion between jazz and rock at times, it feels more like a rock track than jazz, but then Miles brings in his signature trumpet for a chef’s kiss performance. The title track, "In a Silent Way/It's About That Time," is on another level. For the first four minutes, I felt like I was literally levitating. The moody vibes and the 19-minute journey were incredible, honestly some of the best minutes of my life. The production and immaculate soul of this record created a 100/5-level experience that is easily the highlight of the challenge so far. A definitive 5/5.

Another slice of genius from Miles Davis (and Teo Macero) - glorious, deep, warm music that ripples and shifts slowly, like sunlight on a river 5 stars

I remain not qualified to speak on jazz really but I liked this.

The fact that Miles puts together some of the craziest bands and then sits back is wild. Tony Williams is on fire on this album.

Will probably now be listened to 100s of times in my life as it gets added into the retinue of albums to listen to at work, alongside Animals by Pink Floyd and basically the whole discography of Aphex Twin

yep it's Miles, it's good

2 track album. Boss move. I feel like a young Jim Morrison had this on repeat. Have added do favourites. That ending!

Great one, fun to listen to :3

I avoid making meta comments too, but I'll make the (current) 2nd highest comment's words my own and hope his thoughtful analysis surpasses the ignorant and narrow-minded top review.

Jazz fusion. Incredible stuff

On the surface, it doesn't seem like much but after time, I've found this album holds some unique subtlety. An intense brewing that when the band is in full, it's very satisfying. And what a powerhouse of players on this record, all showcasing an unusual amount of restraint.

This might be a wildly off-base take but: I think Miles Davis was a talented and charismatic eccentric. So much so that normie-ostracized, nerdy white guys took his musings and made it technical and complicated and derivative, kinda like what Zuck did with human interaction. If you just don't think about it, you end up discovering how truly impressive this work is.

This is my favourite Miles Davis album, shoot me

we are not worthy

Wowzers! This is incredibly!

phenomenal instrumentals loving listening to this in the bath

That rocked.

Really dig this album. It’s fun, accessible and musically interesting. 4.7.

Dammit, jam bands are just jazz, aren’t they? Jokes aside, this was great, I was really grooving. Sub-note: The “joke” above was my own, but I went to Claude to see if it could come up with anything funnier. My favorite: “I don’t like jazz. I just like 20-minute improvisations over modal harmony with extended grooves. Totally different.” I realized I didn’t know what “modal harmony” meant. So I asked! > Modal harmony is when music is built around a mode (a type of scale) rather than around chord progressions that pull you toward a home key. In traditional jazz or pop, chords create tension and resolution — you feel that pull toward the “one,” the home chord. Modal harmony sits in a scale and just lives there, creating atmosphere and color instead of that constant push-pull. > In a Silent Way is a perfect example. Instead of cycling through chord changes, the music hangs on one or two chords for long stretches, and the musicians improvise using the notes of a mode over that static foundation. It’s what gives the album that floating, hypnotic quality. This is actually a big part of why it connects to what you already love in jam bands. When Goose locks into a long jam and the harmonic movement slows way down while the band explores texture and rhythm — that’s essentially modal playing. Miles (along with guys like John Coltrane) pioneered that approach in the late ’50s and ’60s, and it filtered directly into the improvisation-heavy music that came after, from fusion to funk to jam bands. > So your quip is more literally true than you probably meant it to be. Apparently Miles Davis is going to be my next deep dive. 9/10. Actually, no, fuck it, this gets my first 10/10. 10/10 Godlike

I am not a fan of instrumental Jazz but I know that any greatest hits list of the 70s will always include this gentleman’s Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew so was interested. This was absolutely beautiful. It was like sparkling rain on my head tempered with rolling thunder. Never has a trumpet sounded so yearning. It made me happy in a way I can’t explain and I can only imagine that when I eventually get (I hope) his two greatest albums my head will explode with the sheer immensity of his work.

Excellent jazz. I understand why he is such a legend

Love this - all all his Fusion period.

Spacey-fusion Miles is mijn favoriete Miles. Deze is een stuk toegankelijker dan Bitches Brew maar je hoort al heel goed welke kant het de jaren erna op zal gaan. Misschien wel de perfecte balans zo.

Ya like Jazz?

Flying with Miles

Real music!

Very relaxing

2 songs, one jazz album Shhh/Peaceful: This song is unassuming. It begins off as great background ambiance and as soothing jazz that I personally think is easy to listen to but it is not slow. it keeps a steady upbeat rhythm, easy to not bore the listener. toward the end, it rises and crescendos in a way that the previous composition didn't hint at. the instruments begin to dance with each other in an amazed bacchic celebration that i only wish i could have witnessed in person. it is the type of all encompassing emotional swell that fills the soul deeply to replenish and further soar only to be calmed down again by the soft retire of the day. i enjoyed all 18 minutes and 18 seconds of this jazz ensemble and if it comes on again while doing my homework, i will be sure not to skip. In a Silent Way: This one is an interesting one. (To me all jazz is interesting so it doesn't surprise me). This feels like walking through the busy life of a city musician and all he wants more than anything, is to be able to live in a silent way. Just for a moment. To me, that respite is the end of the song. A calm moment where his energy can recharge, he can take in life in around him, and he's living it not letting life happen.

In a Silent Way is wonderful, sounding at once like an ambient lullaby, a jazz-space rock exploration, and a timeless meditation. The keyboards from Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Joe Zawinul, who wrote the title composition, add layers of mystery and intrigue. They’re like beds for the splotches of texture, rhythm and melody supplied by the rest of the band. It takes you to some faraway places.

I relistened to the album today on a nice walk around my neighborhood. I thought this album was great months ago when I first heard it and I still thought it was great today. Bring on more of the jazz random album generator!

Well, I honesty don’t know how to feel about getting this recommended to me; I have this one on vinyl, and adore it to pieces, and I’ll get to that in a second, but I would hope to get more new albums in a second. Like wouldn’t it be so cool to get like a kinks album recommended? The typa stuff I wouldn’t normally listen to. This… I’ve already heard. Whatever though. I got like more than 900 albums still to go. Something like 986 I wanna say? One day at a time. But anyway this album is flawless. Shhh/peaceful is one of the most masterful pieces of jazz I’ve ever heard in my life, what with the way the guitars and organ interact in the track pan… I fell in love with music production because of that. And in a silent way is one of the most beautiful pieces of ambient-jazz type music I’ve ever, and probably single-handedly invented nu jazz. And it’s about that time… I mean have you heard that trumpet riff at around 13 minutes in?? It takes a titan to do something like that. And that’s what Miles Davis was, a titan. Uhh I don’t really got much more to say. This is like maybe the best jazz album ever though so it’s got that going for it 10/10

Acogedor, muy agradable de oir.

Now this is real music. What a dream, what a journey. Loved every minute.

Hell yeah

Loved this album. It's calm but driving

This album still sounds way ahead of its time, so much so that I still can’t imagine how amazing it must have been to hear this back when it came out at that time. It’s unfortunate that only this and Bitches Brew are the late representations of Miles Davis on this list because all the albums after those are absolutely mind blowing. I mean come on, how can you leave On The Corner off this list! Also the two long pieces on Get Up With It are two of the greatest examples of not just experimental music but all music ever made in the whole history of music!! The more I get through this list, the more I see how badly it was made but that just makes me realize that I just need to make my own list!

Late night magic

lo escuche mientras caminaba y fue una experiencia increíble

My second Miles Davis album was amazing, Birth Of The Cool and all was nice but this was a lot better. This one is a lot more focused on slower paced songs and more atmospheric than Birth Of The Cool. I love the first minute or two of the two songs, especially the title track, the first minute or two is totally feels comforting, and I feel completely at peace; all worry gone, just for the moment. The ambience a bit afterwards continues the peacefulness. Whilst the first track is kind of similar with it feeling a tad bit less comforting, though it has Miles and the band a bit more rowdy to make up for it. Really enjoyed this one, definitely an album I needed to hear before I died. Highlight Song/s: "In A Silent Way"

I really loved this jazz album and the use of the different instruments was beautiful

Love this one. Next to Sketches of Spain probably my favorite Miles Davis record. Love the ambient touches.

My favourite jazz record - absolutely incredible

10/10 perfect no notes Easily one of the greatest albums ever made of all time. It speaks for itself.

The jazz everybody tells me to listen to is too erratic for me...but this! Gorgeous tracks - very relaxing!

PEAK, thats all i gotta say. Just pure PEAK. Two songs with an ensemble of incredible musicians. Basically the Jazz Avengers on one album. Fav Song: In A Silent Way

This is one of those albums that I was preparing for when I started this challenge and it did not disappoint. In a Silent Way was released between two eras of Miles Davis' music. Not quite the standard but amazingly performed jazz that made him famous, and not yet in fully in his revolutionary era that truly began with Bitches Brew. As such, the album mixes both the jazz and jazz-fusion of both eras, stripping back the instrumentation that was normal for jazz albums in a way that is very daring even now to really question what jazz can be and do. That may be boring for some, of course. After all the two songs on the album, Shh/Peaceful and In a Silent Way/It's About That Time are so stripped back that if you aren't ready for it, or if you don't care for jazz at all, will sound like the hold music your internet provider puts on to try and subtly convince you that you can't do better. And, to be frank, I'm not a jazz connoisseur, so it risked that for me as well. But as I kept listening to the album, and played it again and again, the genius of Davis' decisions becomes more and more apparent. Stripping back the arrangements and focusing on the rock influences that Davis became enamoured with emphasizes the key parts of the songs in a way that jazz rarely does, and in a form that jazz had barely began to dream about. It is truly engaging listen. If you do decide to listen to this album, let me give you one piece of advice: listen to it more than once. That may be a tall order for an album that is essentially two 20 minute songs of experimentation, but it is worth it. While this is certainly not my favourite jazz album (I'm more partial to hard bop a la Art Blakey, an artist that should have been included in this list either for Moanin' or Ugetsu), it is an engaging album of someone who is figuring out where he wants to go. In this album we see the beginning of a turn that would be fully committed to in his next album, and it is a very rare thing to see an artist fully progress in a singular album. If you're into jazz and it's history, listen to it. If you are interested in experimentation in different genres, listen to it. And if you aren't into jazz at all, or want to start to listen to it... don't. Or not yet if you're the latter. The album is two 20 minute songs of experimental jazz after all, so it's not exactly the most listener friendly of albums. Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, or the works of John Coltrane, Bill Evans and Art Blakey are a much better place to start. But if you're up to the challenge, and have at least listened to a few jazz albums, this is a fantastic listen that will stay with you (and me) for a long time. Highlights include the whole album (two songs will do that for a highlight list).

What a journey! I don't know or really care how this recorded, although it sounds very cool and would likely only increase my appreciation for this album, but the music is just captivating and is incredibly interesting and rewarding the more you listen. The last 4 minutes of In A Silent Way are transcendent.

Príjemný jazz. Tento štýl mám rád, s chuťou som si to vypočul.

That’s a 5 from me, dawg

It's just....... captivating. Somehow it makes 2 15 minute adventures feel like one 5 minute song. Can definitely feel the Wayne shorter vibes as they start exploring a bit more free jazz-fusion type ideas.

This album is really amazing, with such two great songs, so delicately composed. I mean, it is so perfect as it is... It's a very pleasant listening, and one album that flows really well and quick. It feels it makes me want more. I'm really amazed about this one.

B A N G E R

Amazing!

Loved everything about this honestly.

Is the Mona Lisa good? How about The Godfather? Hamlet? They mean different things to different people, but there is little doubt that every member of a Western society (and many who are not) benefits from engaging with them. It is not hyperbole to list Miles Davis's best records with the greatest artistic achievements of the past. We can debate endlessly about the value and meaning of these albums, but I don't think it is productive to discuss whether they are essential. They are an important part of mid-to-late 20th Century American cultural heritage, truly "Albums You Must Hear Before You Die." As much as I enjoy Miles Davis's music, especially Kind of Blue, I don't revisit In a Silent Way often, so I was thankful for an excuse to do so yesterday and today. Simply speaking, it is a masterpiece with value for all music fans, even those who don't connect with it personally. It may not have the immediate impact of Kind of Blue, but it is not a lesser session, just a more subtle one. It requires more focus, but rewards every iota of additional attention the listener can give it. Every moment winds and grooves; every instrument is perfectly placed; every note is both perfect and spontaneous. The playing on this record sets a high standard for musicianship. It's the kind of music that shapes how you listen to other artists, expanding your sense of what is possible. I don't have the time, the expertise, or the words to give this album the review it deserves. In a Silent Way doesn't need a rating from me anyway. Records like this make me feel that our OAD project may need a separate "essential masterpiece" or "culturally significant" modifier in addition to the rating system. Five stars.

Honestly, pretty sweet. So peaceful and easy to listen to. This isn't bitches brew. I could really relax to this. I think this one is going to become a go-to. I don't know shit about Jazz, but this is a 5

Очень мягкий и органичный джаз, плавно перетекающий от блюза к свингу и даже в рок. Прекрасный альбом!

VIBEZZZZZ

Magische jazz

one of the all time jazz fusion albums. when 'in a silent way' hits 13 minutes, good god. i dont throw the word genius around lightly but miles was one of them

Don't normally queue up Miles looking for great guitar work. This has it in spades. Wonderful listen throughout

Say yes to jazz

Probably my favorite Miles Davis album. Several of the greatest jazz musicians of all time playing off each other and pioneering a new sub-genre as they go. Credit is also due to Teo Macero for editing several takes together into a cohesive whole. The “Compete Sessions” box set is worth a listen to hear the alternate takes and unused pieces.

So good! Love Miles Davis

This album is a masterpiece. It’s considered to be the beginning of Davis’s shift to jazz fusion and his ‘electric’ era. Jazz is not my favorite genre, but this album is absolutely captivating. It’s ambient, has just the right amount of tension, and sounds so fresh for an album from 1969.

It's jazz, It's Miles Davis, It's wonderful

Jazz has been one of the genres I've failed to appreciate, but this proect has opened my eyes to. Magical

East 10

좋네요. 옛날 노래가 아닌 줄 알았어요

Miles has so many incredible records I've been listening to him since high school and somehow completely skipped this one. What an amazing sound world he created here. Somehow groovy and ambient at the same time. A new favorite.

5/5 This album feels timeless. It's so chock full of artistry and skill, and Miles Davis has managed to completely blow me away, even though I never really delved into his work before. This album both soothed and surprised me. Wonderful experience.

Miles!

What a magnificent album. I’ve loved it for years and it is still always a good listen. It’s interesting hearing other acts trying recreate similar atmospheres and failing badly. I would have loved to have been there when this came out - when any of his 70s albums came out - just to feel the impact and for some, shock. That aside, this is an original and unique record that is appealing to enthusiasts of all music. I never really get bored of it. If it isn’t in my Miles top five, then it definitely makes the top ten.

Super good jazz fusion I hadn’t heard before. Every college kid got Kind of Blue. It’s the standard for good reason. But this is more modern. It’s jazz fusion. It’s like Herbie Hancock but it’s Miles muthaf***in Davis. Rock needs funk meets jazz. Glad to have just met it.

Kinda a proto krautrock album…

A great album to just have a sit down, relax and fully embrace. Such a clean tempo throughout and throws just about enough new stuff in throughout to keep you interested. Listening to this after a long day at work helped a lot.

Floating, patient, and quietly revolutionary. Rating: 4.7/5 Short Review: This album feels like drifting through space with your thoughts turned all the way up. It is soft, slow, and endlessly influential without ever needing to announce itself. Favorite Track: Shhh / Peaceful. Long, hypnotic, and impossibly cool.

Oh ah! Jedna z najlepszych płyt jazzowych w historii.

Who knew an album with 2 songs can be so profound and structured

Listening to this I was just blown away. This album is gorgeous. Out of all the albums I've discovered via this list so far this is likely my favourite. 5/5

Very calm and relaxing. A good sunday afternoon album.

Two long tracks isn't how I expect an album to be structured, but this is great. I've had it on repeat for hours now.

in a silent way can bring a grown man to tears 😭😭😭😭 certainly brought me to it and then it brought me to a steady groove thank you miles davis

Very nice jazz with hints of rock.

Topzera. Primeira experiência e foi a melhor possível.

Master piexe

A great jazz fusion album, but jazz fusion isn't my preferred style of jazz. Guitar-led jazz generally isn't my preference, but this album really comes together as such a unique and conceptual project. I'll throw a 5

Yeah this is dope. I don't really understand why it's awesome. I don't typically get crazy about jazz. but I feel like I should reward what feels like the best jazz I've heard here, so why not. 5 stars.

Phantastisch! Auch heute noch!

miles davis i can stomach is quite a treat Would I listen again? Yes Deserves to be on this list? Yes 4.6

Spaced out jazz that sounds like Davis' answer to what was going on in rock in the late 60s. He still comes off sounding super unique and fresh here, almost astral. Truly far out. 5/5

Gggooodddd

This is why album recommendations are amazing. I normally don't enjoy jazz. I've never listened to Charlie Parker before. How could the trumpet possibly lead a band and create something awesome. But it's soo oooo good. I walked the dog on the beach on new years day listening to this masterpiece. Possible the start of a whole new genre for me. Outstanding

Maybe my favourite jazz album, on some days. Has a lot of Miles to fight for the top spot though! A masterpiece of performance, restraint and editing. "The Complete In a Silent Way sessions" is worth a crack too if you want 3+ hrs of the same vibe...

A classic

Hmm modal Parallelism

So calm. I really liked it

Is this music coming from under my skin? Sometimes it makes me uncomfortable and sometimes super joyful.

FUCK yes my favorite Miles Davis album! it's patchwork and abandons convention but i find it so so satisfying. the way the first third or so is repeated to make the last third is a really weird, yet ultimately beneficial choice. very ambient too. Davis had a good ear for sound design. deserves to be one of the 1001? yes! and tbh we can bump his list entries up to 5. gimme On The Corner

Here, we listen to Mr. Miles Davis invent fusion, ambient music, and probably a couple other things too. We are not surprised, because he's also previously invented cool jazz. And modal jazz. And... Utterly transfixing with, yet again, a top-to-bottom hall of fame octet that brings it all together. This album is relentlessly, hypnotically, incredibly, beautiful.

A very, very pleasant album. I'll come back to this whenever I need to kick back

I really love this album, first track right away captured me, I absolutely want this on vinyl.

Music doesn’t get much more beautiful than this.

Wow, cool! I think a fusion between psychedelic rock and a jazz is an apt descriptor. I think I liked the second song, "A Silent Way" a lot more than "Peaceful".

Loved how soft it was and how heartfelt it was.

gosh..... this is so calming and to listen all these tones..... amazing

It’s 5/5

I thought it was very unique sounding. I loved the jazz feel to it

Miles Davis' first excursion into jazz fusion. It's a delightful listen, filled with a little tension and the effortlessly cool tone Davis was known for. Very easy listen and one I often point to for anyone looking to explore jazz as a genre.

Beautifully calm, serene soundscape of jazz. Listened to it in the morning

If you thought this was boring, you're just admitting you don't play music.

Felt like I was floating in another dimension

Striking use of background organ and piano under jazz solos at the start of the album - often discordant at several points, making the otherwise repeating/simple elements of the music still seem fresh. I also enjoyed the repeating, fast paced elements in the tracks, especially the drums and bass. I know such repetition is not exceptional in the genre, but I really enjoyed its execution in this particular album. The use of guitar throughout is very pretty. It conveyed tone in a very sweet way. infact, all of the songs' intros were very pretty, I think mainly due to the way slow pace and not over-the-top improvisation. this style was best seen in the concluding song of the album, I think. the xylophone was also really nice sounding as well. im not that familiar with jazz, but from what ive heard of the genre the album doesn't seem that innovative (other than its use of electric instruments, which was probs unique in its time). however, that's not necessarily a bad thing, as what the album does do it does very well. The songs flow together and convey emotion very well, at times being fast/exciting and other times very peaceful. overall, i really enjoyed the album, and think of it very highly.

Yeah, it's good! I actually don't really know what I'm looking for between a good and "bad" jazz album. With most genres I've heard some of the absolute worst and some of the best, so I have good perspective on the line between them. Jazz though? I've mostly only heard the greats so differentiating between "good" and "great" is really hard for me. Well, that's not changing anytime soon because I know this was great! Just on a purely listening experience, this was a nice calm vibe that felt like it was just the right length for me. The way the album shifts towards increasingly relaxed vibes as it goes on with moments of dramatic shifts and great release, makes the entire album feel very cohesive. I definitely got the fusion vibes, but considering how much I read about how Jazz was apprehensive to the shift, I was expecting it to lean harder into the fusion. That's not a fault though, as I feel it's perfectly balanced for the music that is being presented. Would love to listen to this again in a car on a dark, quiet night.

Good company on my walk to the train station that takes as long as the first track

First listen to this album and it was a perfect album for the overcast and foggy day!

Impossible to have a favourite Miles album but this one is up there.

Invokes a mood that is hard to describe.

Not first listen; 5; I really love this album. For an instrumental jazz record, there's a lot of memorable riffs, hooks, and sections. Parts are very lush and dreamy, but then other parts are frantic with instruments all over the place. I've listened to this album plenty and will in the future, and I'm glad that it's on this list.

love it

Yesssss that's my boy

Excellent recording. Ideal for a winter evening. Encouraged me to study more closely the work of Miles Davis

Wow You're making it harder for me with all this incredible albums. I want to look like a tougher guy. Like that I can't, because this record absolutely melts me... It's a masterpiece. Enough people wrote it before me, so I don't need to elaborate. Enjoy another 5.

Classic Miles Davis

A while back I was complaining that I'd had too many poor albums in a row. Now I feel like I'm being spoiled. It's probably just two sides of the same coin though. A fantastic album, so easy to listen to, it felt like it was over in 5 minutes though.

Miles Davis es de otro nivel musical. No tiene nada que ver con el pop y el rock de mucha más fácil escucha. Merece la pena este lp y otros muchos suyos.

good evening listening

My Miles fandom is limited to a few very cherry-picked albums. This was not one I’d been introduced to before, but the musician lineup is incredible. And it really blew me away. It will be getting a lot more time in my earholes for sure.

Strongly recommend getting some big headphones, putting this on, and walking round the city watching people go about their day. It’s like being transported into a movie.

Genius

Brilliant artist and album

long songs but chill

2 songs. Fantastic. 70s movie soundtrack vibes with a tinge of avant garde. Loved it.

Duro pra caralho. Escutar este sabendo no que ele culminaria um ano depois torna a experiência ainda melhor.

I loved this. The music was seamless as it transitioned from movement to movement. This was a solid groove.

Don’t need to listen again, this is a perfect album

che dire

Very relaxing and cool jazz. Certainly influential and excellent.

What can we say, Miles Davis, essential, perfect, necessary

It's funny to know this is Miles' first all out fusion album since there's lots of electric but so little rock about it compared to what was to come. Gorgeous playing in every direction. Nearly every musician went on to play huge roles in fusion jazz for the next 10 to 20 years - Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Herbie Hancock being everything everywhere.

Read my lips: masterpiece.

Immaculate ambient album Excited to get into Miles Davis Aoty score 89/100 My score 90/100

Superb

A deep musical conversation. Sometimes they're talking about things beyond my comprehension, but I'm very glad to get to listen in.

Miles👅Davis 🤤

Beautiful

Muito bom

a real easy listen in 2025. nowhere near as challenging as bitches brew, but just as enjoyable.

Behagelig og perfekt ts morgenkaffen

Gorgeous smooth and soulful.

Man, Miles Davis. He made me envision a world where jazz rules. It’s the late 50s and Jazz manages to stave off rock’n’roll as the dominant genre of music, with Davis and Coltrane and Mingus and Evans et al percolating into the popular psyche to dominate in place of the Beatles and Stones and Queen and Eagles et al. Not just musical styles but fashion and attitudes and ways of interacting are informed by Jazz from then until now. No Rolling Stone magazine, but instead Flowing Stream magazine; no punk, instead modal jazz; no singer songwriters, but ensembles and group improvisation; suits and ties, not mohawks and shredded denim. Im not saying it’s have been better, just different in the multiverse way of being different. But I can say that Miles Davis would’ve been the patron saint of that potential future.

One of the all time great jazz albums. Learning that there was a lot of overdubbing and editing really opened my eyes- it sounded spontaneous and live while still deliberately using the studio to make it something even greater. Many years later My Bloody Valentine and Talk Talk would use the studio in much the same way. Beautiful album and I have to say I prefer this to bitches brew.

The warm up to bitches brew.

Beautiful. Two sides doing different things. Miles Davis' playing is unreal in its gorgeousness as ever. I love the antsyness in the drums and swirly intense Hammond on Shhh / Peaceful. Miles weaving through it and then leaving and returning. In a Silent Way is so beautiful, gentle and then not. Surprising and steady and full of gorgeous melody. I hadn't heard this one before and I can tell I will return to it again and again.

No clue about Jazz but still

Awesome

Not the biggest jazz fan but Miles Davis just hits. Not even close to my favorite album but still so good. I feel like his music just puts me in a trance.

Vilka musiker! Knappast hissmusik. Femma

All cards on the table, this is my personal favorite album from Miles Davis. This is from his early jazz-fusion days and I believe the first album he did alongside John McLaughlin -- a fruitful collaboration that would also bear the fruit of with two side-long expositions that are brBitches Brew, A Tribute to Jack Johnson, among others. This album is short and sweet with two sidelong tracks broken out into thematic sections. Simple, but iconic album artwork paired with some of Davis' best (imo) atmospheric and loose work. The first side, Shhh / Peaceful, is underpinned by a simple and repetitive two note bass line that (while expanded upon at various points) never fails to deliver on that down note. Add to that some distant organ, skittering high-hat, and some cleaner electric piano wandering up front in the mix, and it makes for a tense sort of backdrop that feels like it has the potential to explode at any moment. On top of that Miles and McLaughlin take turns vocally; McLaughlin noodling about with one of the tastier guitar tones I can think of and Miles piercing through with his characteristically expressive style. The song ends without ever exploding or really climaxing -- just sort of fades away. Side two is dedicated to the album namesake, which is broken into three distinct movements. Whenever I hear the opening of In a Silent Way an image of slowly emerging from dense tree cover into a sunlit field comes to mind. I can't explain why, but the aural atmosphere of the bass with the twinkling keys and wandering guitar fill me with a sense of beauty and hope. Things wander in this hopeful way for a while before getting lower to the ground and more driven around the 4 minute mark as we enter the "It's About That Time" section. This builds around a theme initially introduced by the piano into a climax before receding back into that original blissful state to the close. I first heard It's About That Time when Umphrey's covered it at All Good in 2010 -- a bit of a heavier interpretation, but always fun (crap recording here: https://archive.org/details/umphreysmcgee2010-07-09.akg463s.naiant.flac24/umphreysmcgee2010-07-09t07.flac). Easy 5 / 5 for me.

Incredibly soothing with the horns, chimes, and bass line going. The horns sometimes sounded like some military WW2 horns that you hear on soundtracks for Saving Private Ryan. There was probably a lot more going on in this album that I didn't fully pay attention to but it was excellent to have on while working.

Never heard this one but absolutely loving it 4 minutes in. That was an incredible ride. Like Kind of Blue that had it all. Loved it and added to my library.

So good, a master of mood.

He was brilliant.

A stunner. Its hypnotic, dream-like qualities instill calmness in my mind regardless of what mood I'm in prior. It's relatively basic compositionally compared to his subsequent works - "Shh / Peaceful" is essentially one chord locking in a groove, but the trumpet and electric piano/organ work somehow opens up an entire universe within a track. Not a half bad collection of musicians who performed on this one either - Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin. Simply untouchable.

Таинственное путешествие.

I thought I already had this one but I like Miles Davis

What’s not to love about jazz. I just love instrumental music

An album of Miles Davis jazz fusion? Niiiiiiice. With only two side long tracks? Grrrreat. 5 stars. Naturally.

When those drums kick in at the 2/3 point of the title track, I do a little freaky dance.

number 1 guy I wish wasn’t an abuser

Excellent listen.

I know jazz is not to everyone's taste, but this record is sublime. I didn't expect to say that of a two-track, 40 minute album but there you go. There's such a warm tone to Miles Davis' trumpet and the whole thing is an absolute pleasure.

Classic previously unknown to me. Will return!

Now here we go.

A work of absolute genius, still fresh, still relevant, still mind-blowing.

It's Miles Davis,of course it's a masterpiece

Means a lot that two records by Miles are 5 stars.

Awesome

Fusion, groovy

The first Miles Davis record I ever bought. It was a used copy from 1977 and still sounds great. Arguably the beginning of a new experimental phase for Miles that would last for years. REALLY cool to hear how that evolves from this early non-traditional (now) classic. I love this album!

Super Dope

Genius.

Disjointed but beautiful, complex in arrangement but simple in melodies. Pleasant arrangement

Man kan ikke gå galt i byen med Miles Davis. Fantastisk jazz album.

This album is fantastic!! Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, and Herbie Hancock all on the same record with Miles Davis. This is so good.

I love jazz and will revisit this one often

Damn, that was just about the best vibe. My car journey in had large periods where I suddenly went... "Oh, what I'm here already?" I got so entranced by the music. Very rarely do I replay an album later that day from this list. This time however I nearly went for a third.

Lovely, the sound felt so beautiful- magical almost

Beautiful. Probably my favourite Miles Davis album. One million stars.

Pleasurable pace. Right up there with he's best

Radical, groundbreaking, and understated. Do yourself a favor and fully commit to the ride.

one of my favorite vibes

Day 43 First listen- UGH i love Miles Davis's albums! They touch your heart in a way no other musician can! Profound (5/5)

Amazing. I’ll be searching for the LP

I'd never heard this really early Miles Davis before, but I'm really familiar with Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, etc. This was really matching my mood today but was too short! Overall 5 stars for sure

What a ridiculously stacked band. I have loved this album since I first heard it about 20 years ago. It is definitely not going to be for everyone. Too static and rock/funk-ish for many bebop heads, and too weird, obscure, avant garde for many rockers. For me, it falls right into the perfect intersection of jazz, rock, funk, ambient. The two side-long tracks are like collective meditations. 5 stars

I only heared Bitches Brew before (15 years ago), and it annoyed the hell out of me. Either, this is so much better/different or I have became older smarter enough. I enjoyed all of this album. Sorry Miles, I don't hate you anymore

Absolutely the top of the list for random horn honks

Miles is the GOAT. Nuff said.

Learning more about myself, wasn't expecting to like jazz. Did not overstay its welcome, felt like it found all sorts of ways to keep things interesting while listening. May come back to this later.

It's Miles. Miles always gets 5 stars from me.

Sonic world peace. The man can do no wrong.

I will always love Miles Davis

Miles Davis going into a new Jazz sound. Wild this was recorded the way it was.

I had this on cassette years ago. It was perfect personal stereo headphones on staring into a rain lashed train window on a long journey by night music. Then I had it on CD and lay in bed hungover on Sunday with it on. Now I have a vinyl copy and look out at the foliage of all the back gardens and the abandoned caravan park I can see out of my window typing this.

Es Miles Davis Intimo, melancolico, y particularmente experimental Me atrevo a decir que es un 9/10, pero tiremos para arriba la nota

nice and minimal

Exactly what I expected. Magnificent. The quality of the musicianship on this album is probably close to perfection as you can get: Herbie Hancock and John McCloughin add a depth of musicality that is transcendental.
