Fantasy hair rock! Yes please
Ashamed I haven't listened to this before. Incredible. Raw, awesome guitar riffs, killer metal combined with sublime musicality. Stunner.
What a band! Rock
Toll, eine andere und mir bisher unbekannte Seite von Queen!
Lo mejor hasta ahora
I have been exposed to Queen before with Bohemian Rhapsody and some other loosies. This album is different in some ways from their more popular mainstream music, and I like it a lot.
10/10 freddie te amo✨✨
Great music that I wasn't aware was even made by Queen.
A prime example of glam-meets-prog rock, performed with skill, passion, and a sense of adventure. An argument could easily be made that this is Queen's greatest and most ambitious album, surpassing even the heights of Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera. This album is also an example of how not to produce your album. The mixing is a little untidy at times, and it's very obvious when the guitar/drums max out their volume. Still, it gives the music a raw, fierce energy that doesn't really detriment from the sound. The "concept" of this album, featuring the "White" and "Black" sides (reflecting themes of reality and fantasy respectively), is really cool. The songs are wicked, particularly March of the Black Queen, which is one of Queen's best.
Wasn’t familiar with this album, though I love Queen. It might be their best one. It’s Soooo good. I listened to it 3 times.
Love queen - orchestral elements were very nice
Excellent!
Haven’t listened to all of Queen’s music. I really enjoyed this album. Freddie Mercury’s voice is something else. Good album.
Clasic
fun, deep, better than I expected
Starts with quiet rock ballads with an emphasis on vocal harmonies and transitions to a driving percussive rock with riffs and electric guitar solos throughout then back to rock ballads to finish the album.
A classic… I’m not a huge metal fan, but of course this one had some classic songs
Great introduction to glam rock! I've never known where to start with Queen, this was a good one.
I will love this masterpiece evermore.
My fave Queen album. I don't even like the first half very much, but the second half is SO GOOD and such a perfectly structured sequence of songs (I love how they all flow together, ending with Funny How Love Is, then having Seven Seas of Rhye as a palette cleanser). Totally packed with ideas and has the classic Queen sound. I'm also so used to albums giving you their best stuff early and then fizzling out, that having an album do the exact opposite is super refreshing. Love it!
“As Brian May later noted, Queen II certainly wasn’t a perfect album—but it was the single biggest step the band ever took.”
love these guys!
fantastic
Queen are basically 70’s rock gods.
Procession- 4/5 Father to Son- 5/5 White Queen (As It Began)- 4.6/5 Some Day One Day- 4.7/5 The Loser in the End- 5/5 Ogre Battle- 5/5 The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke- 5/5 Nevermore- 4.5/5 The March of the Black Queen- 5/5 Funny How Love Is- 4.2/5 Seven Seas of Rhye- 4.5/5 Total- 4.7/5
A queen album I hadn't listened to! It was very slay🌟. Expected nothing less from the Queen Freddie🌟🌟🫶
uninspiring album name lmao but its queen so i cannot fault them
Like many people, I basically grew up on Queen thanks to my father. I was already pretty familiar with this album but it was nice to revisit it. There are some GREAT tracks on here, and even the ones that aren’t necessarily to my usual taste are still pretty good. Best tracks: Father To Son, White Queen (As It Began), Nevermore, The March Of The Black Queen, Funny How Love Is, Seven Seas Of Rye Worst track: The Loser In The End
I love this album. Queen is an amazing band, and they really show their skills in this album. I love how songs transition from slow and quiet to fast and loud and back again without feeling jarring. I also love when albums seamlessly transition between songs. The only thing holding me back from giving this album a full 5/5 is The Loser In The End, which I didn't particularly enjoy. Every other song is great. 4.5/5 Favorite song: The March Of The Black Queen Worst song: The Loser In The End
Awesome heavy Queen album. 2 sides, for the white queen and the black. Favorite Track: March of the Black Queen
Melina and the girls are awesome. A real indicator of what is to come
Queen's proggy high water mark. After this they expanded their palette, becoming the eclectic, magnificent group that will always be my favourites. This is how prog should be: Freddie's imaginary fantasy world of Rhye is front and centre. He performs a song about a painting! We get chord and timing changes in abundance. Four superb musicians show us what they have. Yet it never falls into the twin prog evils - overly long songs and unnecessary (boring) solos. Brian is the greatest at playing solos that serve the song. If you want to see extended solos see them live. My favourite album by my favourite band but not my favourite of all time. People are strange.
Good
Never heard this album before!
Gotta give this a 5, Queens entire catalog is bangers
Amazing
Its Queen, what else do you expect
Rock classic
Fuck yeah.
Anything not sung by Freddy isn't the vibe. All vocals and guitar is godlike. 4.25? 4.5? Not a 5 since Freddy wasn't lead on all songs
Love it
Nobody gives those first two albums the love they deserve this was fantastic
Perfect, every song is good and flows well into the next.
Solid album from start to finish. The stretch of songs from Ogre Battle to The March of the Black Queen might be some of my new favorite Queen songs.
I hadn't heard a lot of these before but my god I wish I had. So distinctly Queen, Freddie M's vocals and Brian May's guitar playing is absolutely *chefs kiss*, loved this from start to finish
banger
Freddie and the boys rocking out. Gotta love it.
I’ve not heard any of these songs before. It sounds like quite typical Queen. I liked the production and I thought it was a fun album with lots of unexpected twists.
One of my favorite bands, and an incredible album.
Mid-70s high water mark. Really brought it with operatic bombast and the musicianship to back it up. Brian May's guitar and Freddie Mercury's vocals and piano make this a world. You have no choice but to immerse in it and hold on. Plus the riffs are metal as fuck. Gimme that pony curl rock.
When I fist looked at the track listing for this album I was surprised that there wasn't a single song that I had heard of. After listening to the whole thing, I have no idea as to why that is. Great album, top to bottom! I have always been a hits guy with Queen but after listening to this, I have to go back and listen to more albums instead of just songs.
Fantastic! This album felt like a full on opera or something, like it needs a whole stage play to it. The movement of the tracks makes pictures in the mind. The vocals are incredible. Start to end, felt like it took me for a ride.
I've never been much of a Queen fan. I like this album because there are no hits on it. Brian May is an outstanding guitar player.
an absolute favourite of mine. good pick!
Love Freddie! That’s all
Goats
Nevermore is what did it for me. You really grow a better appreciation for Queen outside of their hits
Absolutely love. Bands like Queen is what I subconsciously save my 5s for. No matter how popular or “underground” a by them is, it’s classic, and Id listen always. Love it.
Excellent
I am a little surprised at how much I enjoyed this album, given that I'd never heard any of it before. Maybe that's why. It seemed to flow theatrically and be a pretty amazing experience. It really felt like something new, fresh, and creative, and totally rockin'. I can't explain much better, but I felt what I felt.
Well, I only recognized one track, but the album didn't really throw me any curve balls from what I would expect from Queen. This album deserves some more attention from me for sure! It's fabulous!
Surprised to see an album from such a well known band without a single familiar title. But no worries --- this is quite comfortably Queeny. There are pre-echos of more familiar fare like our beloved Bohemian Rhapsody and the Flash Gordon soundtrack. Interesting to hear the difference between the white and black "sides" of the album and to hear other band members taking lead vocals from Freddy Mercury.
A Queen album I have never heard of with not a single familiar song? Hmmmm… what could this be? A dungeon crawl?! This may be my new favorite Queen album. Rock pageantry of the highest order brimming with 70’s fantasy & lore. A grand exotic journey that makes me feel like I’m just discovering Queen again for the first time. Fantastic!
My Mom had Queen records when I was a kid and listened to them to death. Unfortunately, she did not have this album. What a shame. This has so much fantasy stuff in it I would have gobbled it up wholesale. Queen II could easily become my favorite Queen album. I rank it up there with some of those other metal albums like Black Sabbath (even though it's not really metal). Can't wait to sit down with this and pull out the lyrics and get to know it even better.
Not their best work, in my opinion, but still better than most other bands! Really interesting to hear some of the deep cuts from their early years, including Brian and Roger taking a turn on lead vocals, as well as seven seas of Rhye, one of my favourite Queen tracks.
What an incredible album. I'm a big Queen fan but had never heard most of the songs on this album. Some of them are just the most wonderful Queen songs I've heard. It really justifies my plan to listen to all these albums!
One of the all time greatest albums of all time. This album has worlds in it. It has characters. It has melody and harmony. And rock. The faerie fellas master stroke, controlled insanity. Father to son with its beach boys harmonies. March of the black queen, with its six sections. Oh, did they do that type of thing again? And it’s an album. You start with procession, and you listen till seven seas of rhye fades out. I pity those who don’t get it. It’s its own universe. Walk in and let Freddie, Brian, Roger and John guide you through.
Rating: 9/10 Best songs: White queen, The fairy feller’s master-stroke, Nevermore, The march of the black queen
IT'S FUCKING GOOD
It was awesome
Queen’s biggest hits are so unique that I tend to think of them as a band without peers. But I enjoyed hearing them on this early album making music that sounds like the prog/folk/heavy metal mash-up that Led Zeppelin was doing around the same time. This whole album is new to me and it’s just killer top to bottom. They sound ferocious when they’re in hard rock mode! The epic “Father to Son” and the blues crunch of “The Loser in the End” are early favorites for me.
this album is exactly what i wanted to find when I started doing this. complete rock opera, fantastical, medieval, epic lol. its like almost nerdy in how hard it goes, and i love that. they created this whole other world here like this album needs a labyrinth style movie to go along with it. love it. favorite song is white queen but they all bang.
I'm more familiar with their later work. This has all the talent but less silly.
Every song is just a Queen song. (which is most definitely a compliment) Ogre Battle and The March Of The Black Queen were amazing tracks (alongside Seven Seas Of Rhye, which is definitely the best track on the album) There were a couple parts in songs that I thought dragged the track down for me but sooner rather than later it was back to hard hitting vocals or a sweet solo I think my real rating would be somewhere around 4.75, because it didnt WOW me like some other albums i've given 5 too, but in the same breath it was a constant stream of great music
WE FINALLY GOT SOME QUEEN!! This is my 2nd favourite Queen album (Night At The Opera can't be beaten, sorry not sorry) This album is pure joy for me, from start to finish. It really introduces what Queen will go on to become further in their career (and it does this way better than Queen I which is far less polished and cohesive imo) March of the Black Queen is such an underrated song, one of my favourites in their whole discography. Seven Seas of Rhye is one of my favourite Queen singles (love the piano). Love Roger and Brian's vocal tracks on this record You really get everything here, quality songwriting, huge Freddie vocals, killer Brian May guitar, big harmonies and well written, interesting music
5/5 queen slays I love them. queen will always hit
Ah Queen. My first favorite band. Queen has always been, and in many ways remains, extremely popular. Liking Queen is kind of like liking Star Wars. It doesn't make you cool or unique or nerdy. They're one of the biggest bands of all time. That being said, I feel like most of Queen's fame and notoriety comes from their middle years. The Stadium Rock Anthem belters, occasionally veering into weird artsy stuff. For as big of a band as they are, I feel like their early years and later years are underrated. Queen II is a Queen in transition. They are still finding out who they are, and that is Queen in a very interesting place. Queen II is a dark fantasy, something clearly created by young art students. Fairies! Ogres! Queens! They get a lot of their imagery and philosophies form the early days of prog rock, but their musical sensibility is much more hardcore than the boops and beeps of Yes. An early mantra for the band was "No synthesizers. Ever" (This lasted until Freddie changed his mind). You can hear the beginnings of their Rock Opera mentality in pieces like White Queen and The March of the Black Queen. They're almost the Queen everyone knows, but they're still trying on different outfits. I also REALLY enjoy the B-side of See What a Fool I've Been. We get a great glimpse into the "what if" or "sliding doors" scenario of a Queen that pulls more influence from Led Zeppelin (and Black American Blues music by extension). Anyway it's a perennial favorite.
Queen: Weirder than you thought. And that's a good thing.
Great album! It doesn't contain any of the major classics that everyone knows of Queen, but the music is still on point and just brilliant!
Unique songs and voices, good first album to listen to in this journal. Classic rhythms brought to life.
Queen is so flipping good. I hadn’t heard many songs on this album but I enjoyed all of them.
Mixing of styles, heard some prog rock influences which were very enjoyable. The march of the black queen remains one of my favourite underrated Queen songs.
Queen er Queen! Dette var riktignok et ukjent album for meg, og ikke så hyppig spilte sanger som de senere - men umiskjennelig Queen i vokal, gitarspill, instrumentalisering. Seven Seas of Rhye var en klar favoritt.
All Queen albums are amazing
Au début, je le trouvais plus sage que les albums de Queen que je connais. Mais finalement j’ai retrouvé les arrangements grandioses et théâtraux, l’omniprésence des guitares et des harmonies, les mélodies inattendues
I enjoyed every second of this album. Most of these songs aren’t their big hits so I was surprised by that
The best album of the best rock band
Tähän ei kyllästy koskaan.
Queen is my favourite band. I know every album and every song so it's going to be hard to say anything negative about them, especially for the Queen albums on this list since they are my favourites. I love Queen II since it improves significantly on the debut album and still has Queen in their prog-rocky/fantasy phase which disappears for the most part after this album. So much great stuff on this album but I have to say The March of the Black Queen is just such a fucking banger track and I wish Queen played more songs from this era later in their career since it was completely different from what came later.
Truly great
I love Queen. It reminds me of someone and it sort of pains me to hear it. Music makes me feel really nostalgic. I really enjoyed this album though. Ogre Battle was a trip and I loved The March of the Black Queen 10/10 okay next!
It's Queen!
I'd never heard this album before and I wasn't in the mood for Queen (or at least their single-type songs) this morning, but then Queen II just INSISTED UPON ITSELF. By 3 songs in I was hooked and now at the end I'm kicking myself for only hearing it for the first time at 38. I've always been 50/50 on Queen; I LOVE their prog/metal-type stuff and HATE their pop songs. I think Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best songs ever written and Bicycle Race one of the most overrated dog turds in existence. I'd always assumed their early stuff was the more pop end - totally wrong there. And I can't even say it's due to either Mercury or May being the main writer cause according to Wikipedia they basically went 50-50 with songwriting, and I loved the lot. Even though Queen isn't exactly wicked obscure underground, this is what I joined this project for: to stumble across albums I'd never heard but absolutely love. Gotta drive for 3 hours or so later today and Queen II will be on again for sure. 5/5 and going to tell all my mates to stop what they're doing and listen to it.
absolutely amazing
5.0
Wild that I've enjyoed Queen most of my life and knew ZERO of these songs. No major pop hits, but all awesome rock with fantasy themes, layered vocals, and Brian May's incredible guitar tone. Easy 5.
Thoroughly enjoyed. 5/5
Incredible. I have only listened to best of and the way this album is put together is so epic. Really glad I’ve now listened to a queen album all the way through. Loved it!
This album was spectacular. So many great songs. I listened to it again right after I listened to it a first time. Then I went back and listened to a couple of the songs again. For how good this album is I am surprised that more of the songs were not mega hits. I will definitely listen to it again. Also this album lead to a great Super Nintendo game Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen.
Lovely to hear some song so hadn’t heard before and some songs back to basics - not the crowd pleasers. Good to hear other voices on the recordings
This album was very important to me and the first Queen album I purchased way back when (I was 13). Audacious and far from perfect, it was, nonetheless, perfect to me at the time. While not everything works, it also clearly provides a roadmap for much what comes later for the band. There are vocal overdubs throughout. Procession introduces Brian May’s layered guitar sound. March of the Black Queen is a precursor to Bohemian Rhapsody type epic. Nevermore is a classic Freddie ballad. Loser in the End is a Roger Taylor pseudo-heavy metal contribution. The only thing missing is a John Deacon pop song. Lastly, the Mick Rock cover is a classic and was the basis for the Bohemian Rhapsody video two years later. I return to this release often.
on regular rotation for me
EL disc per connoisseurs de la banda. Enrevesat, contundent, inspirat.
Classic. Seven Seas of rye has d me ready to run through a wall
Procession is gold! They were still young and having a lot of fun with music...Can never resist all those baroque/classical chords and progression combined with pop and rock.
Sempre incrível!
Amei o começo de todas as músicas aqui. A teatralidade, o suspense, a emoção. É tudo perfeito, do começo ao fim. É a cara do Queen.
The world needs more Freddie mercury
Some new Queen for me, which I loved all of
couple of twee moments with the fairy fellows swanny whistle but some innovative sounds and structures
Amazing Band. Amazing Album. They rarely have bad songs.
Short and sweet album. Although Seven Seas Of Rhye is definitely the highlight, this album contains some great tracks, like March of the Black Queen and White Queen. The instruments are incredible throughout, and Freddie Mercury's vocals only make this album better.
Wonderful
It's Queen
queen rainha outra banddinhas nadinhaa
Listened 30/9/21
What an album! Started a little weak, not quite the oomph I'm used to from Queen. But man, did it pick up! Ogre Battle was epic, March of the Black Queen is amazing (very reminiscent of Bohemian Rhapsody), and of course Seven Seas of Rhye. Loved it!
Pleasantly surprised, was not expecting that.
No hace falta para saber que es uno de los mejores disco de todos los tiempos.
We. Will. Rock. You. Never gets old. I remember having to run laps in 7th grade and the PE Teacher put this song on to motivate us to run. But I couldn’t hear it if I was running on the other side of the field. So I pretended to twist my ankle so I could sit by the speaker and listen to the music. #genius and Freddy Mercury was #genius too. 💛
Great
It’s queen. Nuff said.
Really great album. Lots of really good songs
Una joya de disco
Queen was the first band I listened to abusively. But that album flew under my radar for some reason. It's progish and it's great.
7/10
Liked it more than I thought , was only familiar with March of the Black Queen and Seven seas of Rhye. Needs a few more listens. They almost sounded like Led Zeppelin in those days.
It's that Queen that's still a bit more leaning towards prog, especially with that opening track. Great album and one of their best.
I need to go back and give the other two Queen albums another listen. I enjoyed them but I wonder if listening to them more than twice would increase my enjoyment. I didn't love Queen II the first time I listened because the discussion of ogres, black/white queens, and a fairy-feller made me feel like this could be too "Lord of the Ring-ish" for me. I was incorrect though, because I liked Queen II. I liked the first half of this album more than the second half, which seems to put me in the minority since the second side has songs with more Spotify plays. My favorite songs: Father to Son Some Day One Day The Loser in the End Nevermore Funny How Love Is Seven Seas of Rhye
Yup, liked it. What’s not to like it’s queen, probably not their best though?
I think quietly underrated. I like this one
Não é o melhor álbum, mas é bom
Pretty good. I’ve only ever listened to the greatest hits album before, but I liked this.
Favourite Songs: The Loser In The End The March Of The Black Queen
Black side was crazy aggressive for a Queen album. Ogres, man. Who knew?!
Hard to hate on a Queen album because all of their work is good. But by comparison this one didn't feel as grandiose and showy and some of their other others
It's interesting to hear early Queen, still in search for direction, but with most of their trademarks already in place. A bit lacking in the songwriting department for my taste, but for me Queen always was a "greatest hits" band (of which they have plenty). Between 2 and 4 but there's Brian May, soooo...
me gustó jeje
It's Queen. It couldn't be that bad
Solid follow up to their debut. It’s a fun listen
When to listen: on a mythical quest. This album is so Queen, so fun. They are incredible musicians and I've always loved Seven Seas of Rhye.
Hardest album cover ever. Easily recreated with a torch in the window of a bowling alley (speaking from personal experience).
not my favorite queen album, but it's still queen !
Interesting, not in and of itself, but to hear a greater breadth of Queen's theatrics. There's more rock, more metal, and more fantasy themes than their bigger hits let on. Fairy Feller's Master Stroke is a good example, and musically fun too - upbeat, bit chaotic energy, with harpsichords to give it a fantasy feel. But more Enid Blyton than Tolkien. And the segue into Nevermore is lovely. Followed up by the epic March of the Black Queen Wait, this is a concept album with an actual fantasy story? There are no huge hits on this album so for me it's really about seeing the range of what Queen were doing. Best track - The Loser in the End, The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, The March of the Black Queen 4 stars - took a while for me to understand it with the lack of big Queen hits. But a theatrical fantasy rock concept album has to get a 4, and executed to perfection too.
Queen II was far more guitar-driven and heavier than I expected, and tracks like Father to Son, Ogre Battle, and The Loser in the End were easily my favorites. Brian May’s riffs and guitar work often sounded surprisingly close to early heavy metal, while the album’s more theatrical and choir-heavy side didn’t really connect with me. Still, I found it fascinating how Queen could move between heavy hard rock and theatricality within the same album. Few bands make me feel so divided from one track to another.
Chique
I think this might be my favorite Queen album. A bit proggier but with the same bombast and campy fun.
I like Queen. This wasn’t one of my favorite Queen album, but I liked it more than I remembered. Solid 4
Wow. I've slept on this. Want to go back to the new mix now. Definitely going to keep coming back to this album.
Cool album Nice diversity as some opera fragments and other parts are just rock Do recommend
Best yet!
fav song: the march of the black queen least fav song: ogre battle a nice album, i’m not really a fan of queen, but it was a good album for an evening.
Pretty cool, queen isn’t my favourite anymore but man this had some bangers
Honestly kept forgetting I was listening to Queen, then Freddie would manage to bring me back. So good
So many Queen songs I love, yet this is the third Queen album I've been assigned that has one or fewer songs on it that I know. Still, it's hard to argue against any Queen album's inclusion on this list. The guitar work is stellar, the vocals angelic, the fantasy tropes somehow work with rock and roll, and there's really nothing that sounds quite like this. Despite not knowing a single track on Queen II, listening to this went by in a breeze. I thought "Father to Son" and "The March of the Black Queen" were standout songs.
Was not expecting it to be that good Favs : The loser in the end, father to son
What a strange little collection of songs, very Queen.
Àmazing stuff. The sonic successors to the Beach Boys. The care that went into recording this is phenomenal. The vocal harmonies, Brian's patented harmonised guitars - all push boundaries. The songs are good too. I'm going to have to do a deep dive on this album as it is so bloody long.
Nice to listen to some “new” queen songs for me. Funny how love is getting added to the rotation
Underrated Queen album!
never actually heard this before but i thought it was really good, definitely will be listening again
Not their best but legends cant go lower
Yas queen
It was fun hearing Queen sing about ogres and fairies and stuff
Freddy's vocal is amazing!
Feels like the blueprint for later albums like A Night At The Opera. Not as varied as some of their albums - but the potential is certainly present.
Absolutely prog-tastic. Favorite Queen album to date. Every single track flows so beautifully to the next. It’s indicative of what the Queen sound would become, but I think it maintains a lot of the weirdness and creativity that their commercially successful songs sometimes lack. I’m shocked I had never heard any of the songs on this album. The songwriting isn’t as strong as the later records, but I really enjoyed this version of Queen. A very high 4/5.
It’s Queen, duh Standout: March of the Black Queen
Love this harder Queen sound. The flawless transition of Procession into Father To Son makes for a fantastic intro to this album.
What a wonderful album ! I'm not very familiar with early Queen, so I was not expecting this. Even though they hadn't yet strayed very far from the rock / glam template, it's already insanely creative, with brilliant musicians, electrifying hooks and flamboyant symphonic elements. A great prog rock record that has very little to envy to Led Zep and King Crimson, yet never takes itself too seriously, unashamedly reveling in dorky fantasy tropes. A couple of songs are a bit less interesting and slightly too pop-ish for me, but overall it was a very pleasant surprise. I'll certainly come back to it. 8/10
I love all Queen but this is my least favorite of their albums, so it gets a 4 instead of a 5.

Not a big Queen fan but this could’ve converted me if I didn’t know the other stuff they’d released
This was an odd listen as this was one of the albums that got me into music and collecting records as a young teen. I remember my mom bringing this back from a trip to Vancouver to our home in y the Yukon along with Kiss Dressed to Kill and Aerosmith Dream On. I loved these early Queen records and played them constantly until I discovered punk rock and Queen had evolved by that time into a sappy pop band. After that I never listened to those records again and certainly not a full playing of II since 1977. Perhaps its nostalgia, but some of the tracks very much have aged well even though the mix is a bit challenging with some muddy sections. This was the Queen recording I most enjoyed as it was heavier more art Rock and less pop oriented although it has the beginning explorations of what would be their signature sound with multi-layered vocals and instrumentation. My favorites in no particular order remain Father To Son, White Queen, Ogre Battle, Nevermore, March of the Black Queen and Seven Seas of Rhye. Solid record and for the most part as good as I remember it. 4/5
Kind of all over the place
An album that contains several of my fave song of all time <3
Faves: Some Day One Day (v zeppelin) The Loser in the End (also v zeppelin)
very awesome. can't believe i haven't listened to this yet it's incredible. long live queen and freddie mercury!
A bit different to what I would usually expect from Queen but this album had their stamp all over it
Great. A bit more rocky than their later more poppy albums. This is one of the first albums I bought, so very familiar. The Seven Seas of Rhye is a standout track, but there are others.
Geen hits, wel top!
Goeie koningin album, kende er geen enkel liedje van ma is wel gwn awesomeballs
noice
First time heard this one in full... not that i'm gonna want to give it another spin some time soon, but that was interesting to see how they were developing into a stadium band
One of the most underrated quern albums
That's a solid very thematic album, very fun to listen to.
“Hear me. You Lords and Lady Preachers. I descend upon your Earth from the skies!” -‘Seven Seas Of Rhye’ 🤘
Never heard any of these Queen songs, still enjoyed it a lot. 8/10
Medieval LARP but everyone is Henry Cavill. 4/5
I don't know what the consensus is among Queen fans, but I liked this a lot more than Sheer Heart Attack. They fully leaned into their theatricality on this one, and managed to back it up with some truly stunning, mystical arrangements. This feels much proggier than what they would do on later projects, and it makes for some of their most exciting songs. I didn't expect the heavy high-fantasy theme on this project, and while it sometimes veers into corniness, it mostly works perfectly with the glam-rock aesthetic they're going for. The first half is solid, but this album truly comes alive in the second, Freddie Mercury-penned half, where they fully commit to the fantasy themes in both the lyrics and the sound. The band really focuses on creating a continuous album experience on this, and the way the songs flow together is wonderful. The real crown jewel is the multi-phased epic the March of the Black Queen, which I highly recommend to those who love what they were doing on Bohemian Rhapsody. Highly evocative imagery, wild swings in mood and tempo that feel earned rather than jarring, and an excellent performance from Mercury.
so many songsss liked some, didnt like some much, loved some
It was pretty good
Queen II Awesome. Love. Freddie mercury voice of an angel.
I mean it’s queen Really good
Oh boy do I love me a good rock opera RIP Da goat Freddie Mercury you would've loved heated rivalry If you gotta make love do it everywhere!!!! Fav Tracks: White Queen (As It Began) Nevermore Seven Seas of Rhys
Interesting and fun. I like where Queen went from here more, but the musicianship was obviously there all along
Very undeniably queen
I struggled to break this one apart; Queen has a pretty distinct sound with Freddie's vocals and Brian's guitars, a sound which I have loved for decades. I suppose I'll just stamp this one with some favourite tracks and say that, compared to some other stuff Queen has done, it isn't quite as memorable. Despite that, the performances are tight and fun as they always are. I'm sure the Queen was at some point too, god rest her soul. Favourite tracks: "Father to Son", "Some Day One Day", "Loser in the End", "Nevermore", "The March of the Black Queen", "Seven Seas of Rhye".
More potential than anything else, but quite accomplished for a second album.
Queen, før de ble Queen.
Always nice to hear Queen songs that aren't just the same ten or so big hits.
Sinceramente achava que o álbum seria melhor, de 12 músicas 5 são relevantes e boas de escutar, o resto não fede nem cheira, parece a mesma música de visões diferentes.
I was surprised to find I didn't recognise the names of any of these songs except the last. There are some cool bits in the album - beginnings of the iconic queen electric guitar and Freddie Mercury's singing (which must surely have inspired Jeff Buckley). I think they are taking themselves a bit seriously here. I don't know how innovative it was at the time - probably very - but I honestly found it a bit boring. Later queen to me seems like they're willing to have more fun, be more silly and hence create exciting, unusual and fun songs. Like ABBA, I think queen might be more of a "greatest hits" band for me. Ok, that's a bit harsh. This album is cool and exciting, but the chorus of almost whiney voices obscures the music a bit for me. I think they cool off on this later with more of the clean bendy sounding guitar solos and the emotion-conveying piano. Top tracks: white queen (as it began), nevermore, seven seas of rhye
Loved the sound, it’s really weird listening to it as it’s certainly queen but you don’t know the songs
Fantastiskt förstås. Gillar den röda tråden i albumets låtar och hur allt hänger ihop. Mercurys röst är helt magisk. Jag tycker mig också höra likheter med Bohemian Rhapsody i några av låtarna, vilket är kul. The Loser in the end och The March of the Black Queen gillade jag mycket.
Nice sophomore album. A preview of what'll become one of the best bands of the 80's
White Queen was when I began to say "Okay this is what Queen sounds like". You can really tell this is their album where they establish their signature sound. I absolutely loved Ogre battle. It reminds me of the part of Bohemian Rhapsody where Brian May really gets to shine. Another really cool thing about this album is the way The March of the Black Queen antagonizes the first part of the album. After some reading this is supposed to be because there were two sides, White and Black. My only issue with this album is the beginning. It was too slow for me when I was wanting some rocking Queen. That is why 4 stars instead of 5.

Rock on. One of the best album covers ever. Instantly recognisable. Freddie Mercury has a great voice and almost operatic arrangements but this album lacks any of their big hits. Great listen without adding any songs to my playlists.
I’m a Queen fan but pretty much have heard their only radio hits/ Greatest Hits stuff. Didn’t have high hopes for this one when I checked out the song listing and saw I didn’t know any of these songs. I was pleasantly surprised, some great Queen flourishes scattered throughout.
Love it
Although I was a fan of Queen this was not my favorite album; however, there were some songs I really enjoyed.
A couple on here I really like.
Usually if they're not playing songs about wanting to ride a bike or large posteriors or Flash Gordon, I'm not interested. BUT! This was a good time and thankfully didn't have the hits.
idk if this is my favorite queen album but since its entirely a Deep Cuts Record its certainly one of the easiest to enjoy, seeing as how being the most overplayed band probably Ever is one of the main barriers. i dont even know how many of the individual songs are something i would count among my favorite tracks from the band, but they generally hit all the band's brash, theatrical notes in rockers and ballads and "epics" in forms that by default i am not sick to death of. that being said, this being their most """ambitious""" album is a potentially useful illustration of why queen just doesnt do much for me these days...i dont require some kind of big concept or meaningful content/context, but especially for something this ostentatious i rly do wish there was a bit more to grab onto. even as individual, self-contained sentiments, theyre often shot in the foot by the simple fact that queen lyrics are not worth much even in the best of times. idk, once the novelty of a queen track wears off, they just become kind of hard for me to latch onto as Art Objects, which i suppose is why the overplay is a truly dire issue for me. still, regardless of what i think, it is undeniably interesting that a band this confident and idiosyncratic just won over the public forever thru sheer force of will. and i Have always liked seven seas of rye.
Listen i like queen even if theyre not great
me gustó, canción agregada "Some day one day"
I love Queen but this album isn't my favourite. It was still enjoyable but felt like it was lacking something Iconic album cover though! 4 ⭐️
Widely considered their breakthrough and an important album in their development. I don't really listen to it often cause I reach for other Queen records that I know a lot better... I don't LOVE the prog period. I like their ROCKERS. I do, however, recognize a great record when I hear it. And this is a great record.
God bless Freddie Mercury
#915. Probably the first one on here somewhat far that doesn't have any of the artist's hits on it [god knows I've complained fortyleven times about others on here] that is still actually good. 4/5: queen.
Didn't know this side of Queen existed. It was lot better than I thought it was going to be. Sounds like a polished version of what all the British prog rock bands of 70s were trying to do. Solid 4. 👸
LOJAMOOO
It's good, but it didn't blow me out of the water.
I honestly don't think I've heard anything off of this album before today, which surprises me. A very solid rock album from a great band.
All hail the Queen! ★★★★
Was not feeling this on my first listen at all, but on my second listen where I was paying very very close attention I felt I was rewarded by the lush production and attention to detail. A weak 4 but I could see myself listening to this again.
Can a band transform into who we knew they would become in "real time" on an album? If so, this feels like the example of it. I liked the first half of the album but unless I heard Freddie's voice, I would have never known this was a Queen album. It was much more in The Who or a Zeppelin category. The switch, as it were, seems to flip and the band that is so ingrained in my imagination comes alive in the second half. Fascinating album. Exactly why I started this project.
Never listened to queen outside of the song bohemian rhapsody. this was much more palatable than I thought it would be. 1 or 2 songs were quite enjoyable too. Not perfect, but not bland. 4 stars.
Awesome II
Funny how this album came right after Meatloaf - I really wasn't a fan of the Meatloaf album because it felt overly theatrical and this Queen album, that I liked, was probably more theatrical than the Meatloaf album... I think what holds this together is how tight and impressive the band is. Brian May's overdriven guitar sound is top notch, and the layered recording technique they use for Freddie's voice is super well done. I feel like a couple of these songs go a little overboard, and if this was stripped down more I would probably like it even more, but still thought this was a pretty fun, well made and entertaining listen.

Creative, interesting, a bit repetitive.
Man what the hell why do they sound like that After the initial shock of the “We will rock you” guys putting together an album that’s somehow closer to Led Zeppelin then their later work, I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. I think it’s too easy to hate on them for being corny that you forget that Freddie Mercury’s still one of the most talented vocalists ever and Brian May’s a pretty remarkable guitarist, there were some great solos in there. March of the Black Queen was probably my favorite. I do think it’s definitely on the generic side and I’ve 100% heard better prog rock, I can see why it didn’t do great commercially. I also think they went a little too hard on the theming here and the lyrics and overall work suffer a bit It’s a really interesting album for sure, it lets you see how their sound evolved over the years and it just sound good so it gets my thumbs up
Alright, buckle up, cause this is gonna be a long one. I imagine it's very easy for a lot of people to think of Queen as only being a singles band (I’m looking at you dad). After all, I'm pretty sure their best selling album is their first greatest hits record, and I can't say I entirely blame them. I mean everyone knows Queen, right? We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Killer Queen, Another One Bites The Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody, Bicycle Race, Under Pressure, etc, an unbelievably strong stadium rock/pop catalog. People know Queen, even if they think they don’t. I don't think I'd blame anyone for not knowing that, way back in the day, Queen was honestly a really good album band. And no album better emphasizes that then their only one without hits (unless you live in Japan, they were strangely huge in Japan early on) Queen II. This, to me, is one of those albums where while it may not be their greatest album, it sure is in the lead for being their most important. I mean, you take a look back at their debut, and it's... good. Pretty good, all things considered. But it's incredibly low quality. It's Queen back when they weren't much more than a hard rock with some hints of prog and fantasy. You could honestly discuss them with bands such as Led Zeppelin or even The Who. It's kind of like early Rush, now that I’m thinking about it. If they'd kept on this route, they might've been remembered for a hit or two, but I don't think anyone would've been rushing to come back to their full albums. But with album 2, they introduced the secret sauce that caused Queen become their own thing. If you were to ask me what makes Queen who they are, it would be, 100%, the theatrics. Queen is a very theatrical band, even at their most hard rock or arena rock pop. Between Freddie's vocals and Brian May's near symphonic multi guitar arrangements... This album is where they first lean into it, and would only dive deeper until hitting a peak on their masterwork, A Night At The Opera. It truly needs to be appreciated for that. Even beyond any kind of historical significance, though... it's just a good album. My go to stretch of Queen studio albums starts here (and goes all the way to, honestly, A Day At The Races maybe even to Jazz). It's just one incredible song after another, from the live set favorite Father To Son, to the White Queen, to Ogre Battle, and all the way to the album's magnum opus, The March Of The Black Queen. Bar none, this is the best song on the album. It's practically a prototype Bohemian Rhapsody. It's an epic all unto itself, and apparently it was a hit in Japan? So says the 'Greatest Hits In Japan' compilation, anyway. (That comp also has a version of the song without the transition into "Funny How Love Is", if you ever wanna appreciate it on its own. though seriously, this album is such a strong listen, it's really better if you hear it and every other track in context.) And I'd be remiss to go this whole review without mentioning John Deacon and Roger Taylor, the backbone of the band. And arguably one of, if not the tightest rhythm section of all time. Deacon's really is something on the bass, and Taylor can pound his set when he wants to and his vocals aren't bad either. (When you have an incredibly unique voice and a nearly 5 octave range that rivals some of the best singers today, but you’re the drummer behind Freddie Mercury). Anyways, I could go on, but this review is already becoming way too long. I'm even surprised I managed to write this much, you know? Like, I knew I had a lot to say, but not this much… To wrap it up, if you're someone who only knows Queen as a singles band, I really recommend you give this album a listen. And of course the other two that're included on this list, but this one in particular is special. It’s not a cult favorite, you know? you can really appreciate just a little more what made Queen as incredible a band as they were and as they will later become.
Not my absolute favorite Queen albums but ranks up there and you can feel the direction the band was going from this point on.
I always forget how weird queen albums are.
8/10
A little T Rex, a little Who, a little Beach Boys, a little Sabbath. Too bad that terrible Freddie Mercury movie got made. This was an incredible talented and inventive band who had a style all their own and had to have an amazing creative collaborative approach that should've been documented better.
Classic Queen, a little less oddball than some of the other albums, but also not particularly exciting. Still super solid classic rock.
I mean, duh. Its QUEEN. In all seriousness I think this album is absolutely fantastic and the art for it is iconic for a reason.
Ok so Queen is my favorite band. thats just that. So I have just a teensy tiny bit of bias. BUTTTT admittedly I really only listen to their like 20 biggest hits? So seeing only Seven Seas of Rye the only song I recognize surprises me and makes me excited to try out new Queen music. Lets Go I honestly didn't care for the first few songs Some Day One Day is delightful?!?!?! Ogre Battle (this sounds like some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard shit but this was prob some of their inspo xD) March of the Black Queen Seven Seas of Rhye Obvi GG I have fun Queen is legendary, and this help cement their legend status. They are the GOATS Out of the regards that this isn't their best album I'll keep this as a 4 but it was very good.
Apparently even when I listened to a lot of Queen it was only in their middle years! I dig how theatrical this is. I've listened to "Bohemian Rhapsody" too many times and can't stand it now: this is like what if that, but not something you've heard three hundred times!
A great album and Queen in full on prog mode.
Well that was unexpectedly fun. Never heard Queen so heavy on Father to Son and Ogre battle. Rather entertaining playing with layered harmonies (Def Leppard must love this), especially on Black Queen. And Seven Sea obvs a great tune. Preferred this to other Queen albums, maybe it’s slightly less theatrics and ballads, and it just generally meatier and more obviously experimental. Low 4*.
god save the queen!!!!
4.5 love queen’s fantasy rock era
It's interesting for a band as iconic as Queen to have their sophomore album be a cult classic and not initially recieved well. I think it's because their later work and even their earlier singles from Queen I are way bigger than this. Depite that, it's a very fun record that shows that whatever you think Queen is, it's a little heavier and more prog and more weird than you remember/imagine.
Already sounding like the most spectacular band ever. Such a ridiculously overblown collection of songs for a second album, only Queen could get sway with it Father to Son showcases all the key elements that would remain throughout their long career, Brian’s virtuoso guitars, Roger and John’s driving rhythm section and Freddie's incomparable vocals. It also shows the layered vocals that they do so well. White Queen is s delicate beauty of a song. Ogre Battle is another of my favourite early Queen tracks, as is the March of the Black Queen. I love that like Queen I, this album closes with Seven Seas of Rhye. Now fully formed with a classic Freddie vocal and a snippet of ‘I do like to be byside the seaside’ Not their finest, but still takes some beating
It was a massive relief to see this pop up. Mostly because I started doing the 1001 Album Generator by myself and created a group after about 4 albums. I've been worrying for about a year that I accidentally set it up wrong and the rest of the group was never going to listen to, for example, another Bowie album I hated. But Queen II reappearing means success! I could listen to Freddie sing anything and have a reasonably good time. He had a great voice and the band as whole made the most beautiful vocal arrangements. The songs other band members take the lead on lack the magic a bit for me - I end up just waiting around for Freddie - so the a-side of this album is not my favourite. This is Queen being a bit Led Zeppelin, a bit prog, far less glorious-rock-pop than the sound that made them legends. That being said I do like the b-side quite a lot. I think this really should be a 3.5 for me but Funny How Love Is is bumping it up to a 4 (its Beach Boysesque sound is lovely). 4/5
Always great
So happy to get a queen album. This is an early one and it was such a fun listen. I loved hearing some favourites I hadn’t heard in a while or completely forgot. Freddie almost had a Bowie sound at times. Electric and weird and incredible. Love you Freddie miss, you daddy.
Nowadays, it's one of their lesser-known albums, but it still packs a fair punch. And rockier than their blockbusters.
This is one of Queen's more experimental albums, before their sound was fully discovered. Many of their songs around this time were based on fairy tales from lands Freddie Mercury and his sister had made up when they were younger, one of which was Rhye, mentioned in Seven Seas of Rhye. It wasn't until A Night At The Opera that their sound was discovered, and their fame was spread internationally. It was this album that solidified their name in the UK. I personally enjoy the later albums a bit more, but I do enjoy listening back to their experimental methods while making music earlier on. My only thought when it comes to Queen is that their hits are too spread out in a way. In many of their albums, there are only one or two well-known songs, and the rest just feel a bit 'meh', which is why I suppose they decided to make several Greatest Hits albums so all the hits were together. I usually prefer to listen to studio albums rather than compiled albums; however, in the case of Queen, I would have to say I have much more fun listening to the Greatest Hits than a studio album start to finish... That, however, does not mean I didn't enjoy this album, because I did, and I found some of the tracks brilliant. Favourite Tracks: White Queen (As It Began) The March Of The Black Queen Seven Seas Of Rhye
for me Queen have always been a singles band. but who knows that they actually makes decent albums? also why are people that could be nicknamed as "fred" or "freddy" changing my life? cause freddie mercury did it twice: the bohemian rhapsody biopic did it once and queen ii did it again. i even watched that really lame queen jukebox musical but indeed it have a terrible plot but its fun. 4/5 (the other alfred(o)/frederick/fred/freddy/freddies: weird al (alfred yankovic), alfred molina (originally an alfredo but anglicized his name, nicknamed fred), alfred hitchcock (with psycho), al pacino and other people.) also i just increased my dose of attention meds this morning so when im writing this my heart is beating 120bpm while sitting and im gonna die
Great album wtf am I supposed to do w a five star rating system 8/10
Iconic cover
Not a single song previously saved from this album! They may all be new to me. I don’t listen to Queen much but I have a soft spot via Crowley in the Bentley Nevermore v good More mellow than I expected?
A nod to how the sound would evolve in later years. Not my favourite Queen album, but still pretty good.
Has a lot of good and interesting elements and was fun to listen to. The second half suffered from what Bat Out of Hell suffered from - it just sounded like a musical with distorted guitars. Not my cup of tea. It's also lacking any ear worms, which is probably why there aren't any hits on this album. It's a solid album, but not one I feel would be necessary to have in my collection.
At one point, I had Queen’s entire discography loaded onto an iPod and somehow I’ve only heard one of these songs before.
I liked father to son and the overall vibes
Great album! Would definitely get the record. Only making it a 4 because it might not be an every day listen for me.
It was good to listen to a Queen album without being familiar with any of the tracks in advance. As a whole it stands up as a great rock record, bordering on the fantastical, with Freddie's vocals a little further back in the mix than on some of the better known Queen classics - not a bad thing as it let the music do more of the talking
- Nobody told me they did a piece with a sitar and microtonality like DAMN that shit was awesome. - Not me crying from the transition from Fairy Feller's Master Stroke to Nevermore. Goddamn. - March of the Black Queen was my favorite track for sure. A close second was Nevermore though. - What an experience. This is definitely a 7/10 at the very least for me. I am still a little on the fence about it as a whole, but this is objectively a good fucking album. This is objectively good music and goddamn do I appreciate it. I think my final score is 8/10, four stars.
somehow the first queen album i’ve ever heard, i didn’t think it had their bangers on it but i think it’s a really good album and im glad i heard it
Pummeling waves of grandeur, epic fantasy prog metal and unapologetic flamboyant ambition that is hindered only by the limits of early 70’s studio technology and a couple of non-Mercury-penned clunkers on side 1. Fascinating both for the hints of what is to come and the paths not taken on future records. It’s tempting to wonder what would have happened if Mercury had been fully in charge- as it is, the first half of this record is mostly mediocre. Side ‘Black’, on the other hand, 100% Mercury, is stunning, non-stop brilliance from track 6 onwards. Truly, if this album was only side 2, I’d probably rate it a flawless 5. Anxiously awaiting the 2026 remix and remaster which hopefully corrects some of the uber-multi-track muddiness and lack of separation. Favorite song: March of the Black Queen
loved the first three queen albums. great songs great atmosphere
This album was a fun listening experience. I like the second half better, which is describes as experimental and psychedelic. My favorite song was Funny How Love is.
Glorious and ridiculous everything you need out of a Queen album.
Nice album.
Not my favorite Queen album, but really solid listen. Honestly don't think I've ever listened to Queen II all the through.
Freddie. The world was better with him in it. What great memories here!

Ahh, Queen. One of the biggest rock bands ever to play a song, and yet I haven't heard a full album by them. I find it interesting that this album was chosen for inclusion when it lacks the hits. There are hints of the band most of us know Queen to be, but also some riffage that legitimately rivals Black Sabbath in its sheer heaviness. In fact, the heavy riffs take center stage here, while Queen's future arena bombast is only hinted at in some songs. Much like Led Zeppelin, the lyrics are heavily fantastical and nerdy. However, it has a character all its own, with many overlapping guitar parts you'd never hear with Zeppelin. A few different vocalists are given a chance to shine on this album, even though Freddie Mercury was a large part of how Queen became an enduring part of the pop culture firmament. "The Loser In The End" sounds like a straight-up Zeppelin ripoff, complete with imitation Robert Plant. Granted, it's immediately followed up with a straight-up thrash metal track in "Ogre Battle". Granted, the rest of the album is more its own thing, though far heavier than most Queen songs are. Ultimately, this album is an interesting and somewhat unknown footnote in Queen's musical evolution.
8/10
This album showed Queen to be as much a foundational metal band as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but with a more bombastic theatrical element. It's too bad they didn't continue in this style. In fact their later song Bohemian Rhapsody seems to be satirizing this style of theatrical metal.
(tips hat) ur majesty
Pretty good, though it pales in comparison with some of their later albums. The fairytale/sword and sorcery vibes here are awesome, though. favorites: white queen (as it began), ogre battle, the fairy feller's master-stroke, the march of the black queen
Low 4/high 3 slower start but you can hear a lot of the classic queen sounds here
Creative album. I love the grandiosity. Very fast-paced, you gotta relish in the upbeat atmosphere. It’s a real sense of energy mixed with the freshness of the production. I also love the echoing, almost ghostly vocals. A supremely fun album, much joy infused in the music. Faves: The March Of The Black Queen, Ogre Battle, Some Day Day One, Funny How Love Is, The Loser In The End, Nevermore
pretty good
If I am relating this to the music of the time, it is a cross between Yes, Led Zeppelin, Rush and…Queen? They’re unmistakable! But it is a true rock n roll record. Cool stuff! I first heard “Seven Seas of Rhye” during the Bohemian Rhapsody movie and it caught my ear - never heard anything like it!
I forgot how good this was…
Was not expecting this to go so hard! I can hear tons of influence from Zep to the Beach Boys. It is more hard rock and blues than I thought Queen played but you can hear the classic opera sound they are famous for starting to develop, especially on the second side. I was completely blown away by this album and will be adding it to the collection.
Every song is so bombastic, constantly keeping the energy high. The guitars go crazy, and the vocals are obviously great (it’s Queen). I liked this a ton.
yes
Really good! I knew I couldn't go wrong with Queen. I love The March Of The Black Queen. This is a good album. I can't help but feel like I didn't do it justice by listening to it with my earbuds, and this would be much more entrancing with proper speakers.
It's amazing how one can recognise it's them just by the way how a song is built.
Heavy
Another first time listen and I knew none of the songs going in. I'm not the hugest Queen fan, but I like them and found this to be a pretty solid early effort by them. Definitely heavier than expected at places reminding me more of Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath than Queen. I would like to own this one day, but I'm not rushing to get it either. Favorite Track - Ogre Battle Least Favorite Track - White Queen (As It Began) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
my second favourite queen album!!!
A fantastic album. Unique and enjoyable, even though the biggest Queen hits are not in this album, I did not feel the quality was any less.
8/10 20.02.2026
Fucking A, can Brian May play guitar! This is a great album so around. But mostly it's notable for being the album where Brian May way outshines Freddy Mercury.
Сначала не зашло. Было скучно. А потом я реально ахирела и поняла почему так любят квин. Одну песню добавила в любимое, 7/10
4/5
Why have I never heard this?? I admit I put off listening because I was like ‘it’s queen- I get it’ but there is more excitement here compared to their later albums. Love the guitar and mercury is on fire. They sound like a band about to hit their stride and unfettered by expectations.
