Masterpiece.

Beautiful music and I never think to listen to just John Lennon so this was wonderful!

This album deserve his classic status just by having Imagine and Jealous Guy on it, but I think the rest of the album is really strong too and gets kind of overlooked in a way. To me it feels like a natural bridge between the more primal aspect of Plastic Ono Band and the more tender/dreamy side of Lennon that we all love. One of the best solo albums from a Beatle, that's for sure.

What is a classic if that album isn't one? What I especially love about Lennon's Imagine album is that he goes to both extremes between the abrasive Lennon (Gimme Some Truth, How, How Do You Sleep, Cripple Inside) and the soft, vulnerable and dreamy Lennon (Oh My Love, Jealous Guy, Imagine, Oh Yoko). But you know, I'm a die-hard fan.

One of my favourite solo albums, both within the Beatles world and outside of. It’s just so ridiculously good. John was as essential to the Beatles as the other 3. But to hear him branch out through his solo albums is very cool! Sometimes I dream of an alternate timeline where John would still makes music today and maybe, just maybe they would someday reunite the Beatles. But that’s not in the cards, luckily we all have their wonderful music they continue to give us. 9 out of 10

Classic Lennon, it doesn't really age

Didn’t have to think too hard about this one. Classic John Lennon at his John Lennoniest. You have calls for peace, vicious attacks, vulnerable introspection, and declarations of love for Yoko Ono all within the same album. If this doesn’t represent the complete John Lennon package then I don’t know what would. Honestly though, Jealous Guy is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Solid classic. Imagine has to be one of the best songs ever written.

More nostalgia

Top 3: #8 #10 #1

album tri bom, pra além do hit "imagine"

Awesome album! I wasn't aware of the partnership dissolution with McCartney. Iconic front cover

The GOAT for a reason

Love John Lennon

Macht gute Stimmung.

Great album. Could definitely hear a lot of different influences from track to track.

Awsome

Very rock and roll. Anti establishment, threatening the American way of life just as the Beatles have always done. Hidden behind the most American sounds with ragtime piano, twangy guitars, and sauntering blues riffs. With some of that experimentation that can bring a childish, playful vibe , or could add nothing at all but the presence of what could be considered a gimmick for a track or two. Perfectly concise to the point where when it’s over you’ll have gotten just enough, but wishing you could have just a little more.

It’s a classic. One of the greastest Albums of all time. I love the Song „Jealous Guy“. Very emotional Song. Among other songs, a good companion on darker days. Personal Top3 in no order: „Imagine“, „Jealous guy“ and „How?“.

Sehr cool! Abwechslungsreiche und aussagekräftige Songs. 9.3/10

Other than the ubiquitous title track, I'd not heard any of this before. Nothing particularly unexpected but all good.

I have never listened to this album before, but of course know every note of Imagine. Listening with fresh ears I realize how I have taken this amazing song for granted. It’s no wonder it is still ubiquitous today. The rest of this album is also quite impressive. While I still am not a Lennon fanatic, this album is filled with a variety of really great songs and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. I’m glad this project has pushed me to listen to something that I should have listened to years ago.

What can I say about this beautiful album. Some of John Lennon's finest work with so many great tracks: "Imagine", "Crippled Inside", and "Jealous Guy" are the stand-out tracks, but let's not forget "I Don't Want to Be a Soldier", "Gimme Some Truth", "Oh My Love", and "How Do You Sleep?".

Been a big Beatles fan since I was young (thanks mom), but never really explored much of their solo works. Of course knew the Imagine song, but the rest felt like unearthing some extra bonus Beatles track. Really enjoyed. Favorite track: Oh My Love.

Fantastic, if not shambolic album of some of Lennon's best solo material.

Great album!

I was going to give this 4/5 originally based just on the music, but with all the asshat haters out there, I’m bumping it up to 5. Fuck the haters.

This is such a good Album for John. I'm a bigger fan of his Plastic Ono Band but this is really great. Imagine is overplayed now but what a nice song for the time.

already listened

Got some good ones on it.

With songs like Imagine and Jealous Guy it's simply possible impossible to give anything but five stars.

Venga, un 5 por la canción de Imagine. El resto del disco, agradable sin más.

Visionary songwriting, iconic music, and some great, bitter sniping about Paul McCartney placed alongside some sincere ditties about yoko which feel sweet and universal. I absolutely love John Lennon. Simple clean melodies, meaningful concise lyrics, bursting with grandiosity as well as humility - flippancy alongside purpose. His vulnerability, anger and self-importance laid out for all to see in a way I find completely appealing and relatable.

Top 5: Imagine, Jealous Guy, Gimme Some Truth, How Do You Sleep (best song) and How. His first album is better but this is a close 2nd.

This album... is amazing. It doesn't get better than the song "Imagine" but the quality just keeps coming despite starting at such a high point. The 1-2-3 of "Imagine" "Crippled Inside" and "Jealous Guy" hit me super hard. I admire his songwriting skill, and his willingness to say what he means in such clear and powerful ways. "How Do You Sleep" is another standout, and rather shocking how scathing an attack it is on Paul - I want back and listened to the Ram tracks of Paul's that John was reacting to, and they are much more veiled. In any case, lots of great tracks here - I will refrain from listing all of them - and they hold together as an album. A remarkable work by a legend.

For "Imagine" alone this gets 5 stars. I can't think of a more iconic, timeless anthem in all of rock music. A beautiful plea for optimism and faith in humanity. Pair it with "Gimme Some Truth" or "How Do You Sleep?" and you get the flipside to that coin. Here the venom flows. And it's this dual nature in John that I love so much.

It’s good.Of course it’s good John Lennon was a beatle. He wrote happiness is a warm gun.Nothing on this album is like super groundbreaking musically but all the songs are good.Obviously imagine is outstanding evh if it’s legacy has been tarnished by stupid celebrities.but cripples inside and jealous guy are also great.Gimme some truth is kinda weird but I like it along with how do you sleep.Good album

Eternally awesome

4.6 Just banger after banger with enough variety to keep you on your toes, obviously not as good as Beatle era stuff but it's pretty damn good. Fave songs: How do you sleep? (AKA McCartney diss track), Oh my love, I don't wanna be a soldier mama

Imagine gets 3 stars by itself. I was surprised by the quality of the rest of the tracks. One of the GOATs for a reason. How Do You Sleep? - elite song

I never got to fully listen to this one all the way through, so this is a nice opportunity. Also, I got Plastic Ono Band like five days ago, so I got both Lennon albums super close together. Neat, I suppose! I'm gonna end up running out of Beatles things to look forward to on here soon. It's easy to think of the overplayed titular track and dismiss it, but there's some lovely stuff that I kick myself for forgetting about. My favourite songs were Oh My Love, How Do You Sleep?, and How?

How Do You Sleep is really cool. Always loved Jealous Guy.

Loved. No notes.

Legendary album.

Love this album. Love John.

A classic, fore good reason. Title track is not my favourite, but lots of other good songs. How do you sleep is probably the one I like best, like a diss track in the style of Lynyrd Skynyrd channeling Oasis.

This was such a great album. Obviously everyone knows "Imagine" but "Jealous Guy" and "Gimme Some Truth" are both excellent too, even "How Do You Sleep". Nice and easy listen and strong all throughout, except maybe "Oh Yoko!" for obvious reasons. 9/10.

5 sterren.

I'm a huge Beatles fan as well as being keen on all members solo careers. I must have listened to this album 50 times already, and to me, it hasn't lost its charm I enjoy every track for different reasons. Perhaps the only track that could be below par is 'I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier Mana I Don't Wanna Die', but to me that song is just peak John Lennon weirdness, even if it becomes rather repetitive at times. And yes, the obvious criticism when it comes to this album is the hypocrisy of the title track. To me, musicians and artists are more often than not just workers applying their trade. Sometimes, due to the content of their songs, their image becomes representative of something that isn't actually symbolic of their life, views or personality. This is something that many artists have struggled with (Dylan comes to mind as a prime example). 'Imagine' is an absolute anthem of a song, a really stand out track. Yes, John Lennon lived in a mansion, and maybe he wasn't the perfect image of peace when it comes to his personal life, but the song is still good, and has a good message. The rest of the album is filled with tracks that range from good to incredible. The musicians used for this album include George Harrison, Nicky Hopkins, Alan White and Jim Keltner. Its a pretty star lineup and the musicianship is very good. Lennon's vocals are on point. I think this album is not as good as 'Plastic Ono Band' but it is still a very good album and one I highly recommend. 4.75/5

I did not expect to like this album so much! I have always been a little meh about the Beatles, like I think they are fine but a lot of songs I have just heard so, so many times. I had heard the title track "Imagine" before, of course. I actually do like it, despite having heard it used in such cheesy ways. But then the rest of the album was also good!! Bluesy, vulnerable, just good. Lyrically and musically. Worth the hubbub. Favourites: "Crippled Inside," "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama"

Yes I know he was a bad guy but I think this album is good. Lots of strong songs

This guy's got promise

Absolute classic

Probably my favorite Lennon album, and definitely a top tier Beatle solo album. Very raw and yet very crisply produced. The title track gets hate now but if you strip away the cynicism it’s as beautiful as you once thought. Jealous Guy is one of my favorite John songs but it could do without the Spector strings (same goes for How?) Really enjoyed I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier Mama this time around. Really really love Oh Yoko! Just such an utterly John Lennon project.

I absolutely adore the lyrics and instrumentation

One of the great solo beatle albums.

One of those songs that will be around forever for good reason.

excellent!

I sleep well

His best work post Beatles. A little too self important but how could that much fame not go to one's head?

Great great album This is what the list should be full of Cover art 4/5

The title song has become so familiar it’s easy to forget what a blinder it is. And balls to those who say he can’t sing about this kind of stuff cos he was a millionaire. There’s a clarity of sentiment and a simplicity that hits you regardless of whether it was composed in a mansion or a bungalow. Anyway, that aside, this is one of the most consistently brilliant albums of this Beatle I reckon. Love it love it love it.

Of course amazing

Landmark

This is arguably the best of John Lennon's solo albums. It's certainly the one I would point to as being most representative of his work. If you want a sense of who John Lennon was as an artist, it's pretty much all on this album. The disarmingly direct lyricism, the acid-tinged vocal, the offbeat pop sensibility, the fondness for roots rhythm and blues, it's all here. The title song is massive, of course. It looms over the rest of the album more than it should. Part of that is less about the song "Imagine" itself, and more about how the song has been appropriated in various ways over the years. It's probably one of the most well known, well-loved, and overplayed songs of its time, but there's a reason for that. It's an absolutely lovely, perfectly crafted song, delivering a universal sentiment both sweetly and plainspokenly. It's incredibly rare for a song to have such broad appeal that spans across decades. It's Lennon's triumph as a solo songwriter. The range of the other songs is broad, touching on themes personal and political. The tone can be playful and jaunty, intimate and introspective, strident and biting. I don't know about other people, but I feel like I know a little more about John Lennon every time I hear this album. Not a single bad song on here, a real pleasure. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Imagine, How?, Oh My Love, Jealous Guy, It's So Hard, How Do You Sleep?, Oh Yoko!, Crippled Inside, Gimme Some Truth, I Don't Want To Be A Soldier

this album is almost whisky in the way it sounds, i think that just sort of comes with john lennons voice tho. overall i liked it a lot, definitely will listen again

Ah, it's been a long time since I listened to this. I was always more partial to John's rawer, grittier Plastic Ono Band album that preceded this, but listening with fresh ears this really is a classic. Just a beautiful album with some tender, confessional songs mixed in with some edgier tunes. Imagine is of course one of the greatest songs ever written. How Do You Sleep just blows me away - as a Beatles fanatic the lyrics are fun to analyze, but musically it's also a classic song. Jealous Guy is also an amazing song. Really not a bad song in the bunch. 5 stars.

Yeah this guy knows what he's doing

👍 proper classic

Imagino sim

It was great to revisit this album which is so wrapped up in Lennon’s charisma and my memory of listening to it as a teen.

I love John Lennon.

Classic album right after the Beatles split

Epic start with Imagine. 2 Paul diss songs (Crippled Inside and How do you sleep?). LOVE How? Jealous Guy, Gimme Some Truth, and It's So Hard. And Oh, Yoko is just plain fun. "In the middle of a shave, in the middle of a shave, I call your name, Oh, Yoko... My love will turn you on." Although, I prefer the Plastic Ono album.

What a glorious album. Like most people, I was only familiar with the title track - which may have been overplayed at this point. But the rest of the album is perfect, track after track. Really worth your time. Added, with pleasure.

Absolute classic

Incredible

One of my all-time favorite albums.

How timely for this album to come up today? Yesterday, I was listening to two radio stations both of which had segments of peace songs. And on both stations, the first song they played was "Imagine." There are two other anti-war/political songs, "I Don't Want Be A Soldier Mama" and "Gimme Some Truth," but really this album is a collection of songs, mostly great ones. One connective thread is that most of these songs sound very personal, although more loosely personal than his first album, "Plastic Ono Band" (where Yoko and his primal scream therapy strongly influenced). The songs were written from 1968 to 1971 with three written during the "Let It Be" Sessions. The album seems to go back and forth between piano (softer) and guitar-driven ( more rockin) songs. Four are love songs highlighted by the incredible "Jealous Guy." There is an anti-Paul song with whom John was feuding with at the time. John also delivers a stunning vocal performance, along with George Harrison's slide guitar, on " Gimme Some Truth," probably the highlight of the album for me (title song excluded).

There’s still a hint of the sadness that permeates deep within his first solo album, but there’s also some hope and sweetness here too. “How Do You Sleep?” still makes me sad even if it is a banger musically.

Classic Album. Classic songs. Classic Rating: 5. Very interesting to hear "Give Me Some Truth" in the Get Back documentary.

Venga, un 5 por la canción de Imagine. El resto del disco, agradable sin más.

It's a good one for sure, imagine is obviously the best song of the album, but the other songs ain't too bad either.

50 years later, you can hear the genius shining through each song.

Great album. John was always my favorite Beatle, especially lyrically. Some absolutely great songs on this one, especially the title track.

9/10 everyone should hear this album at least once it’s got a few moments that are a little awkward but for the most part it’s amazing

Really really good. Oh Yoko and I Don’t Wanna be a Soldier were a bit too repetitive for me, and I’ve heard Imagine so many times I could scream, but I gotta give it up because it’s a great song.

Amazing, one of my favorites

Great album

Volver a escuchar

weirdly surprised by this. I think because I don’t like the Beatles much, I assumed I wouldn’t like this guy. but his voice is pretty and talented and songs like “How Do You Sleep?” are just really great. this guy clearly knew what he was doing.

pretty cool and funkyyyyyy

It’s not quite the magic of the Beatles, but it’s a solid solo album. I do like John Lennon’s voice and there’s a good amount of variety between tracks

Great album- is missing that spark that the Lennon-McCartney tension brought to the table.

Pop, Rock, 1971 -> 4

Elaborate sound How Jealous guy

Overall really solid. Imagine is still one of the most overrated songs ever

And so, I spent this Sunday as I do so many - thinking about John Lennon. And actually, not everything about this album is positive. A lot of it is, but perhaps we'll focus on the buts first. There are a few songs on here that veer between self-pity and plain mean. How is the former - have your feelings been denied John? Or have they perhaps been indulged beyond all comprehension? And then How Do You Sleep is plain mean. The older I get, the more I come to love Paul, and his work ethic, and his vibe, and his genius. I used to find How Do You Sleep funny and pointed and 'arch' from John. But I think I've grown up and it's a shame that he didn't reconsider it. But anyway, that's a little detour into the fallibility of John, who is - of course! - probably the most significant person in my life that I've never met. There's plenty on here to outline his genius. Jealous Guy, needless to say, is beautiful, Gimme Some Truth is John at his soapbox best and Oh Yoko is a great example of his most unique skill - combining the totally personal and intimate into something supremely universal and relatable. It's a really simple but affecting song. And then there's the title track, which gets a bad rep, but is - y'know - Imagine by John Lennon. Side note: I've probably seen this album cover in the 1000s of times, and this is the first time that I've noticed that it's really, really good.

Essential. Sort of. Not the full on essential a lot of people suggest it merits. Essential - adjacent.

A couple of ridiculously good standouts, but the rest is just alright. Favorite Songs: “Imagine”, “Gimme Some Truth”, “Oh My Love” Least Favorite Song: “Oh Yoko!” Low 4.

John lennon :)

Beautiful

No grand concept or bigger ideas, just a collection of great song after great song. Sometimes that's really all you need, something simple and straightforward, and Lennon here is a master at that. The title track is, of course, overplayed and honestly a bit corny, but I can't help but love it, still. Key tracks: Imagine Jealous Guy Give Me Some Truth Oh My Love

A real classic and some great songs besides the titular song on the record.

Oh This guy really can't sing, he sounds like a duck with a cold.

Oh man I really enjoyed this one. I favorited 2 of the tracks that were somewhat new to me. Is "How Do You Sleep" the first and best diss track?

Oddly my first playthrough of this was an instrumental only version. Having listened to it with vocals as well now, I feel I can appreciate both the music and the lyrics.

yes, its good

4 sterne

I enjoyed the album but not my fav from a Beatle.

There’s something so satisfying about his voice. Songs and lyrics are cute, Imagine the song is fantastic and everything else lies somewhere in between so overall digged this Lennon album.

A bit too mean-spirited at times, but a great record nonetheless.

Imagine

Jealous Guy's pretty cool. Oh My Love is a criminally underrated track. The album, mostly but not wholly feels very soothing, Gimme Some Truth is the outlier here but it's not a bad track by any means. How Do You Sleep? aka Fuck You Paul is interesting to listen to. It's so full of anger and jealously and sounds funny in an album that features Imagine. Speaking of which, no words necessary. Hard to rate the album featuring one of the greatest songs of all time lover than 4.

Probably John’s best individual song. The album is good, not great. Makes you realize how much better the Beatles were together.

Just about every song is a Classic for John Lennon and personal at same time

Gal Gadot was in the IDF and continues to be one of Israel’s biggest voices. She has also committed atrocities with her acting. But still probably the worst thing she ever did was that Imagine video during Covid

Familiar with about half of the songs, but I hadn't heard it all through before. It's good, but not Beatles caliber, solid songs, but not surprising or remarkably compelling. Some great songs, "Jealous Guy" especially, and none that are especially weak. "How Do You Sleep?" is a good tune with pretty lame lyrics; where "Positively 4th Street" is sharp and rooted, it's just mean and "WTF? yeah, Paul McCartney is not a loser like you're making him out to be, John." Does it belong on the list of 1000 must-listens? It does fill in a post-Beatles biographical details, if that's something you need before you die, but, on it's own, I'm not so sure. Really good, pretty enjoyable album, important historically, but probably not musically. 4/5.

I'm glad I heard it. He was a good musician and a tortured soul.

It's got some good songs on and overall I enjoy it, just not as much as the Beatles.

Enjoyed this much more than expected, excellent musicianship. “How Do You Sleep?” might be the biggest middle finger ever given to an ex-bandmate.

I like john lennon. I didnt grt a chance to finish this album

The success of the titular track making it pervade my entire life shouldn't detract from the album. I'm glad I listened to the rest. I really enjoyed Crippled Inside and Gimme Some Truth. Don't have any issues with it being on the list.

lovely album. Jealous Guy is the star. I still like Paul better.

I’m in the John camp. But I do think he did better with band mates who restrained his more self-indulgent side. The song “Imagine” is absolutely a classic. I added “Oh My Love” to my playlist because I hear it so much less often.

It's hard to imagine anyone not having heard the song "Imagine", but this is my first time listening to the full album. Imagine is a beautiful song that asks listeners to not only open their mind to a world without violence, but also a world without "isms" and divisions. How Do You Sleep is such a heavy groove vibe. It's also a diss track at Paul McCartney. But apparently McCartney started it. Regardless it has great slow groove. Some songs seems very personal and come from a place of vulnerability : How? and Jealous Guy. Cripple Inside has a honky tonk feel w blunt social commentary. Gimmie Some Truth is a pretty great social protest song about being sick of the fucking bullshit! Still sounds good today! "I'm sick and tired of hearing things From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics... Ive had enough of reading things By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians" YES! Oh My Love is a tender song that has a bit of the old Beatles feel. It's So Hard - I really dig the way John Lennon does the blues. This one rocks me.

Very good.

how do you sleep is such a grooovy sexy track man. even if john probably looked like the ragebaited furious soyjack while writing it

you can tell this was made by one of the beatles, enjoyable

Actually pretty decent for the most part. No Beatles tho.

I would describe this as an old-fashioned rock and roll album with plenty of blues influences and a few beautiful piano-infused ballads ("Imagine", "Oh My Love", "How"). It's pretty groovy for the most part, especially the Paul McCartney diss track, "How Do You Sleep?". There's even a fun little pop number on here that I enjoyed, "Oh Yoko!". I would say the album is a good mix of fun and introspective songs. This is pretty solid.

Just Imagine.

At least three great songs: "Imagine" (yes, we've all heard this song too many times, but the point is that it's a great song), "Jealous Guy", and "Gimme some truth" (my favourite). Only based on those songs, this is at least 4 stars. Do we have enough further material to reach 5 stars? "How do you sleep?" or "I Don't Wanna be a Soldier Mama" are also very good. "Oh my love" and "How?" are pretty good. I think "Crippled inside", "It's so Hard", and Oh Yoko!" are ok. So, overall, a very good album, with some excellent songs, but I'd say this is more in the 4-star range.

I haven’t listened to some of these songs. He’s magic. I like the song with crippled in the title.

Imagine is S+ tier timeless song.

Great I love it

decent album, Imagine my fav by a long way

Wow, fantastic. I knew the big songs but the whole album is really good.

Solid album front to back. Own.

Of course it’s amazing. I think it’s much sloppier than most beatles records, but he’s an amazing sonwriter, sven if the album as a whole and it’s sound doesn’t follow the cohesion i like. I dont want to be a soldier is one of the best beatle songs ever in my opinion. It’s so damn groovy and sounds soo good on the remaster. Loved it very much but i think i’m gonna give it a super strong 4 instead of a 5

Such a diverse set of music!

Some good songs on this album. Surprised!

Quality

Pretty good

In reality, this album's probably more of a 3, but had to give another star for the title track. It's been on at least one of my playlists since I first heard it, and I have a line of it tattooed on my body, so... gotta be a 4.

Good stuff

Pretty good

I thought I was going to the this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Dreamy

Imagine ansaitsee 5 tähteä. Kaikki muu 3-4. Eli kokonaisuudessaan 4/5.

Opening tracks don't get much bigger than this one. Huge footsteps for the rest of the album to try and fill but the rest of the album is enjoyable. A cool collection of styles including "I Don't Want to Be a Soldier Mama" which sounds like it was plucked from the early 80s. This is my first solo album from a Beatles member in this experience so I am excited to see how the rest compare. 3.5 rounded up to a 4/5

same thing as in a lot of older albums - couple bangers and some fillers that make a nice album, inconsistent. 7/10 Will I add this album to my library? maybe

While Lennon's personal life is complicated, it's no secret that this is a pretty good album. 4.5 bumped down to 4.

PEAKKKKKKK

Some good songs, high quality production. But also you can see how an album was missing Paul. 7/10

A bit basic but good.

It’s a damn good album. Top 10 Beatles solo easily. Maybe top five. Plastic Ono Band edges it for John.

Oh yoko

Cool, his artistic vision I think only exists with yoko!!!

I know nothing about this man other than his membership with the Beatles, his death, and his music production bus that gave us fergie. This album has great hits that are popular for a good reason and catchy melodies that gets stuck in your head. If not for this album, we would not have gems such as Millie Bobby brown’s rendition or the celebrity covid lockdown’s rendition of imagine, both of them I revisited while listening to this album.

Man I do like this album. I know the title song is real cringe hours or whatever we're calling it now but I could not believe how much I enjoyed it the first time I listened. I think he does a good job mixing grooves, intense tunes and the softer stuff as opposed to later in his career when he got a little TOO into Yoko.

Good but I still prefer G.H. solo career

He's no George Harrison...

Great album. John was a bit of a cry baby at times, How do you sleep still pmo tbh

Insanely strong wistful starting song into hiding hurt, justifying jealousy, nvm just kinda falls off from there until the end 5, 3.5, 4.5, 3.5, 2.5, 3 (ODD), 4, 2, 4

Very good post-Beatles music. Clearly he was still angry at Paul. Didn't know that Phil Spector produced this. Of course, every likes Imagine, probably the song Lennon is most closely associated with, but my favorite on here is Jealous Guy.

An album of high highs and low lows. John Lennon was a very complicated person and the gulf between the aspirational and tender "imagine", the vulnerable "jealous guy" and the straight up bullying and meanness on display in "how do you sleep" is pretty jarring to hear in one place. As brutal as the lyrics towards Paul in "how do you sleep" are to hear, for me the most haunting part is hearing George play the guitar solo. Apparently Ringo was also present for some of the recording of this song and told John that he'd gone far enough. What a heartbreaking piece of music. Fortunately we do end with the contented and sweet "Oh Yoko" which i've always liked.

Another impossible album to review because of its myth. I love Lennon’s post Beatles output and this is a beautiful album, very nostalgic sounding with some great songs like Oh Yoko, Oh My Love and How. Got some fillers so only four stars. And yeah the title track I’m not sure how this atheist communist manifesto got to be a popular anthem but that’s funny.

high 4, maybe 5. maybe i’m saving the lennon 5 for plastic ono. really good album.

El vocalista principal de los beatles, i love the beatles but a diferencia del grupo musical, como solista este albúm tiene un estilo muy sureño, tipo baquero que no me molesta pero no me mata tampoco.

Liked it, but not as consistent or amazing as other Beatles projects post Beatles. I think I need to come back to this again to embrace it more

How can we go forward when we don’t know which way to turn - DAMNN okej, trebalo mi je ovo.

Jealous Guy is the jam.

Some absolutely classics, a bit genre-bending.

Imagine being John Lennon. You grow up in a broken home in working class, post war Britain, with no father, being shunted around, you have learning disabilities, trauma and huge amounts of rage, resentment and confusion. You then, in your early twenties, are catapulted into unimaginable fame and adoration. You are hailed as a hero, a legend, a genius. Women hurl themselves at you, and literally millions of people hang on your every word. Imagine what that would do to your already fragile ego? Then imagine you spend the last decade of your life devoting yourself to the messy and painful and imperfect world of figuring your shit out. You read, you listen, you do the therapy, you open yourself up. You fuck up, you apologise, you repeat. You try, in your way, to find make a positive impact, and to find peace. You are murdered, barely 40. Then imagine that for the rest of time chuds on the internet can't stop making asinine comments ala HE SAID IMAGINE NO MONEY BUT HE'S RICH! HE MUST HAVE BEEN SPEAKING COMPLETELY LITERALLY! FUCK HIM AND FUCK YOU I'M SO ANGRY AND COOL There are plenty of other piece of shit rock stars who beat their wives and abandoned their kids, but none of them could write songs like this.

I actually assumed I wouldn't be that arsed with this but it's quite a diverse album. The title track is probably the weakest in the album

Does the egomania completely deflate the idealism? The album ending where it does certainly makes it feel that way to me.

Great album, first time.

Pretty good. Oh Yoko is a banger. Not the best Beatles solo stuff but a solid effort.

i really like the album.. songs like i don't wanna be a soldier mama are so my thingy.. the subtle sorrow in voice hooks me up

Imagine is a bit overplayed as a song, isn't it. Seems more trite as the years go by. I must have heard this album before but don't recall it, and on the back of Imagine the song I was anticipating not enjoying it. But, the title track is probably the weakest song in this record. The whole album is, I guess, a fairly logical follow-on from late Beatles rather than a follow up to his debut? Less interesting that that (due to less Yoko involvement?), but a lot of solid tunes here. How Do You Sleep really points to Lennon's later brief work with Bowie, I reckon. An unexpected 4?

still light a candle for him in December...

Some classics

Did not expect the Paul McCartney diss song.

Iwie meh erwarted vo sim ‚beste Solo Album,

Imagine so en banger

The title song is legendary, some other very good pieces on this as well. Last song is cringe, sadly

wow. today is certainally a big day for ethic polices so that they can say "john lennon is a scumbag! he should be cancelled!" and legitly rate this a 1. like dude hes already dead for fourty tears. anyway firstly, i dont think imagine (the song) is overrated. yes its quite hypocritical considering john is super rich and we need to do things instead of just daydreaming, but -- BUT -- detatching all the context and just looking at the lyrics, the prerequisite of being morivated to build a better future is to imagine it first. or else how do you create a better future without knowing what it may look like at first. you are just hating this song cause its overplayed. just like what you feel towards stairway to heaven. or bohemian rhapsody. or even mr. brightside! also i confess that i was once an mindless paul mccartney glazer. so the concept of listening to how do you sleep when youve grown out from the phase is the funniest thing ever: once the first note played im laughing hysterically like im gonna die. but generally imagine have a run of lennon's best songs and its lyrics are so personal taht sometimes i could feel myself in it. dude jealous guy really made me feel things. 4/5

Maybe it's just me or maybe this has been well documented elsewhere, but this frequently feels very derivative of existing Beatles songs, to the point where it almost feels like Lennon was 'reclaiming' ideas he thinks didn't hit their potential with the band. - Crippled Inside sounds fresh off the white album (Don't Pass Me By). - Jealous Guy actually reminds me of Maybe I'm Amazed, which was already a McCartney solo number by the time this album came out. - It's So Hard could be Revolution 1.2. - Oh My Love also has white album vibes, specifically Julia (also a solo Lennon number itself). - How Do You Sleep, quite unashamedly Lennon's diss track at McCartney, has strong shades of other bluesy white album cuts, such as Happiness is a Warm Gun, while its self-referential lyrics made me think of Glass Onion. Its central riff is infectious and brilliant though. - How? somehow reminds me of A Day In The Life. I don't think I'm saying this as a dig; not really a shock that Lennon would be using similar ideas on his solo album to the ones he'd recorded a couple of years previously with The Beatles, just an observation and something that tempered my enjoyment of this one. Still a good album but it all felt strangely familiar. Obviously there's Imagine, which is a classic, and Gimme Some Truth has also been a favourite since I first heard a cover of it as a b-side to an early Ash single, randomly enough. Gave it a spooky, spacey feel that really works. The intangible Lennon stardust is sprinkled throughout, so it's highly listenable, and his songwriting is always fascinating and unpredictable.

It’s on here for a reason.

I previously heard some songs from this album, but never the album in whole. This was a solid album, but I feel like this isn't his best.

Probably his best album. Some classics, fun to listen.

A bit uneven, but the highs are really high.

Great, some bangers. Personal fav How do you sleep?

That's a Lennon. Favorite Track: To be fair, none of these are particular faves of mine. I guess Imagine for its cultural weight, but Jealous Guy has a great melody, too.

Devastating to find out I like John Lennon

there are some skips, but overall it is sadly a still relevant record about war

Man people on here seem to HATE Lennon. Anyhow, as an album I think it's a, but it is all about the title track. I honestly believe that "Imagine" changed the way that many people perceived the world, in mostly a positive and less violent and open hearted way. I also like "Oh Yoko." Too bad he's still bitter about Paul at this point in 1971.

This album was awesome If John Lennonhad more time he could’ve been there even bigger artist than he was. Although this album is similar in a few songs to what he didn’t the Beatles is like you can truly see who he was as a musician, not just who he was as part of the Beatles.

imagine by john lenon was a very calming and beatiful album for me it surprised me alot as im not a oldschool music type of guy but this mightve changed my mind

John lennon: imagine Overall great album, innovative, creative, and very fun sounding. Stand out is definitely Imagine and Jealous guy, a very thoughtful album by John Lennon, however some tracks do drag a little. Scoring below: Imagine: 4.5 Talks about peace, inspiring Crippled inside: 3.8 Talks about hypocricsy, catchy. Jealous guy: 4.4 Very vulnerable, Lennon opens up about his relationships and him being possessive Its so hard: 3.3 This track feels too blue and rock for my liking, doesnt fit in this record I Dont wanna be: 3 Drags on too long, weird vocals Gimme some truth: 3.9 protest against governmental dishonesty, good message Oh my love: 4.1 Great vocals, beautiful gentle love song How do you sleep: 4.15 Riff is catchy and cool as well as the topic him and the Beatles seperating, great track How??- 4 Loved the calm vocals, reflective track Oh Yoko!-3.6 Very joyful seems to be dedicated to someone called Yoko, not for me though Average: 3.88/5 so a 4/5

A lovely album with some great song writing, though I found the music itself to be nothing too different from other soft pop songs of the time. Imagine and Oh My Love were my favourites.

fav songs: imagine crippled inside jealous guy it’s so hard gimme some truth oh my love how do you sleep? how? oh yoko! melodic, biting, george 85/100

i have some complicated and conflicting feelings about John Lennon as i’m sure most do. there are some absolute bops on this album including but not limited to the communist anthem that is the title track. is this his best work? probably not. but you can hear and feel how soul bearing this is to him and that you have to admire. also some downright fantastic sax solos for a rock album

Favorite Track: Imagine

John Lennon is extremely talented and you can hear the important piece he was to the Beatles in this album. Imagine, the single, is the most recognizable song in this collection as it has been performed by many artists on many different stages since it was released. There is no doubting its importance in history due to its lyrics and request for global peace. While the rest of the album pales in comparison to this single, it’s impossible to not give the appropriate credit to such a masterful song.

Beautiful tracks. Break through but simple vocals.

I didn't know people were still doing that John Lennon edgy hate thing. More surprised than when I was looking at the hateful "reviews" of Morrissey's albums (they're grest albums btw, but he IS a bit of a cunt isn't he?) Imagine making an album that's really honest and raw and people thinking it's pretentious? -spoiler I'm thinking that's gonna be my review when I get to the plastic ono band! This one, I don't love as much, but it's still great! Fav: Imagine Jealous Guy How do you Sleep? Oh Yoko!

Suosikkini niistä kahdesta kuuntelemastani Lennonin soololevystä. Paljon hienoja biisejä, mutta toinen puolisko on selvästi parempi. Usealla raidalla soittaa entinen yhtyetoveri George Harrison.

Hippy peace

1/10 bekannt 7,5/10 Beste Songs: Imagine, oh Yoko, oh my love

The moods I am in when I am listening to these entries influence the grades. Fact. Today? It's Lennon. It's day 6 of another fucking war. So the feels are feeling. Except for the Oh Yoko entry, this album sings to me and plucks my heartstrings. The orchestral arrangements are brilliant. The vocals that we should have been blessed with for so much longer... Imagine.

I had a lot of feelings.

Fantastic sound and songwriting. I liked this more than any of the stuff I’ve heard the Beatles record together.

I can’t assess this music objectively. That might sound like the setup for a 5 review, but it’s actually just a constant argument in my head between two people saying, “Wow, John Lennon was a genius” and “Wow, John Lennon was full of shit.” And they both feel very personally about it and they are both me. There’s also a kind of nebbishy fellow saying, “But if this album wasn’t by John Lennon and if you weren’t thinking about all the things you know about him, wouldn’t you be giving it a 5 just for the music?” I don’t even know anymore, man. I love “Jealous Guy” and I’ve heard plenty of abusers say all those things. I dig “How Do You Sleep?” and can’t imagine Paul deserved any of that. And this will probably go around in my head until I die. But I want to write for a minute about “Imagine” the song. I am unreservedly pro-“Imagine” regardless of whatever kind of person John Lennon was. And the reason why is in the title itself. He isn’t telling you what to believe. He’s inviting you to imagine what you believe in response to his statements. I read a while back in a book about the Beatles that John was interviewed by a very accomplished anti-war journalist who was unimpressed by his peace activism. And in his John way he told her she was right, he didn’t know anything about foreign policy or brokering cease-fires — but nevertheless, marchers in the street were still singing “Give Peace a Chance.” I think that’s because of the subtle way he frames his demand rather than insisting “Peace Now!” or “Out of Vietnam!” No, just give peace a chance. Let it in and it will do the rest. Well “Imagine” is that on a whole other level, the level of all human political and religious aspiration. But instead of saying there is no God or that capitalism must be destroyed, he just asks us to imagine a better world. And it’s in the nature of imagination that you get to fill in the blanks. To me, “no religion” is certainly not the atheism of Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens, though in many ways our (non)beliefs are indistinguishable. It’s Lennon’s focus on the dreams and the sharing and the sky, all the great things we get to do when we’re free from fighting about whose side God is on. Maybe we finally figured out he’s on everybody’s instead of nobody’s. The great thing is that we don’t have to perfectly figure it out. I’ve been on the Buddhist path for a little while and what finally made me start walking is realizing I didn’t have to figure out belief, just practice. I don’t know that there was such a person as the Buddha, and it doesn’t actually matter — what I imagine about him helps me be a better person. And I believe that John’s “Imagine” still gets people out of bed and into the streets and fighting for a better world, because it kindly reminds you that you’re not the only one. Anyway, the album may be a 4 or a 5 or a yellow matter custard, but the song itself is eternal, one of the best there is. P.S. - here’s just one little picture of the song’s impact from a classic episode of “Quantum Leap” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIKtuY667J0

Großartiges Album: Songs mit Message (Imagine), Balladen (Jealous Guy, Oh My Love) und Catchy tunes (Damn you, Yoko!).

Of course I knew the first song, but really enjoyed this whole album

a lot of rockabilly vibes here

- What if you 'imagined' some bitches - God the bass on crippled inside is so jangly i love it - I love when John goes full blues its so funny - Wow the drums on i don't wanna be a soldier (and the sax woah) - Gimme some truth gotta flow on it - Yoko was a baddie, I said it - Just found out "How Do You Sleep?" is about Paul - "the sound you make is muzak to my ears" Jesus - Oh Yoko! is so cute - Honestly theirs some duds on here, not necessarily bad but not something I'd return to in full Favorites: Imagine, Crippled Inside, Gimme Some Truth, Oh Yoko! Least Favorite: Jealous Guy

muy bueno, entretenido. Letras muy buenas otras polemicas. Sonidos divertidos

I don't remember if I bought this cd or I got it for free, I just know it's great!! (Yes, the point of this sentence is to flex that I have this on cd - although it costs like 2 dollars to buy. I just needed to include it so I remember I have it, obviously!) I quite hate how so many people in the reviews praise only the title-track. It kind of alludes that listening to the rest of the album was pointless. I think their reviews are pointless.

I enjoyed this one. There were some musical elements that dated it for me but I enjoyed the album.

Ok, this is my second solo album from an ex-Beatle after All Things Must Pass. Immediately, he wants me to imagine what is essentially a communist utopia in the title track. Apparently, he's also a very jealous person, which immediately contradicts the title track's promise of equality and unity. Granted, I have to give him chops for his songwriting, which is as good as you'd expect from a Beatle. Though his beliefs are questionable(read: very close to being socialist if not downright communist), he can write a good song. Maybe even an album of good songs. And that's ultimately what this whole project is about: songs. Not politics, not the divisive legacy of an artist, but songs. Though politics play a large role in this record's content, it's still a good, easily listenable record. It's not a masterpiece by any means, and it's nowhere close to peak Beatles, but it's not completely terrible.

At first, I didn't know how an album full of "Imagines" would sound like but... It's not that album, and with just one Imagine is beautiful enough to also let other sounds integrate such an interesting and enjoyable record. Most of the songs here are great, and, the album itself is too. I've loved this.

It is a classic, probably the 2nd or 3rd best beatles solo project after all things must pass and maybe band on the run. The title track is great even if the modern use is a bit cringe. Oh Yoko is a great song.

Not my favourite Lennon album. It's really only here because of Imagine, which is a fine song but not a great one. Other than that there's some really good songs and a few mediocre ones

Big Beatles fan, but have never listened to this album in full until now. John covers a wide range of emotions with great results. Not a bad track to be found.

Imagine is obviously an iconic song. Rest of the album is just so-so. 2/27/26 (10 songs, 39 mins)

Have obviously heard of Lennon, as well as the title track of this album. Never heard anything else from it tho as far as I know. Title track is a banger. All time classic. Great writing. Awesome but simple piano. Super catchy. Crippled inside is not as good but still really well written. Very 70s. Elton John vibes. Kanye/pusha sample on “jealous guy”. Like this version better tbh. What a song. He’s an outstanding song writer. A lot of variety on this album. It’s so hard is something like I’ve never heard before. Love the piano on I don’t wanna be. Really cool production all around. Not as catchy. Sax solo🔥🔥. This song musically is the best so far. Gimme some truth is more what I was expecting. Sounds like a Beatles song. Good not great. Oh my love is too slow for me but again shows the range. No one song sounds the same which I love. Production on how do you sleep is so good. Cool guitar riff, awesome strings. Songwriting good as always. How is fin. Nothing special. Oh took is really goofy. I get it’s supposed to be a “love” song but it doesn’t hold up. Don’t think it ruins the whole album tho. A lot of good elements, just goofy lyrics. Overall it’s a really fun album with a ton of range. Some absolute classics. 3.6 stars.

Good but I think I'm too familiar with this sound.

First half was pretty awful, but the last few were amazing enough to make this 4 stars.

This was better than I expected. Imagine is his signature song and Jealous Guy was reminiscent of A Day in the Life. I felt like I Don’t Want to be a Soldier Mama was almost proto-grunge. But the highlight was How Do You Sleep? Liked the varying styles of the songs even though some didn’t quite hit for me.

I was at a Paul McCartney show recently and even though I was in awe on the way home I was thinking would I have liked John Lennon more if it would have been him I just saw? After listening to this album, I know that answer is a resounding yes. John wrote all my favorite Beatles songs and brings that weird yet so cool style to this album. Imagine is one of my all time favorite songs. It was great to see John use other instruments his band never went into much such as the sax and harmonica.

Great and boring at the same time

Lacks the punch that his better albums have but still he's John Lennon for a reason. 7/10

Gimme Some Truth is a banger.

Very nice, John, thank you 👍 How do you sleep is sick

Loved it

One of the great personalities in music history. Much humour, much heart, great music.

4. seems weird not giving it .

it's interesting the way that the figure of John Lennon has such an importance in the pop culture of the last century, that even today it has circled back to being despised for many things (pretentious, wife beater, said the n word, hippie, etc). But beyond all these stuff that mostly gets relegated to memes and chit-chat, i find interesting the picture that is painted when you really take the time to listen to his stuff. More than the Beatles, i feel that all the trajectory and events that lead him to his music feel in certain way that's only possible in a peculiarly organic way or a construed myth. I don't know which, but nonetheless, i'm intrigued by it, and listening to this album only empowers that feeling. I think that for such a depressing and personal album, ending it with a dedicatory song to his wife, says a lot. ¿Was he true in his words or it was just posturing? It doesn't matter really, as what's relevant it's the question and the discussion in itself

Timeless

3.6/5 (4/5)

Good album

Easy to listen to.

listened to before it is one of the greats

Classic

A legendary singer/songwriter with an unbelievable repertoire of classic songs. Great album.

4.5 stars. I prefer the “primal scream” qualities (lyrically and musically) of his first solo record to the polish of this one, but his highs are high.

Alltså, Imagine, Jealous Guy. Klassiker. Men resten håller inte för mer

i love you john every song except imagine (lol) is great 😚

Solid album overall, but how do you rate an album with a world-changing, once in a generation moment defining song like 'imagine'?

John Lennon is my third favorite Beatle. In retrospect, his reputation gets tarnished much more quickly through modern sensibilities, but judging the art and not the artist, this is probably his most important solo work and should be included on this list. Its not incredibly cohesive, more of a collection of songs that somewhat with some pretty loose thematic elements. The incredibly bitchy "How Do You Sleep?" is interesting from the interpersonal drama around the Beatles break up, and ironically serves as an unintentional criticism of how highly John Lennon regarded his own artistic abilities compared to Paul McCartney.

Album #2 that I own since starting this. So if course I love it. Classic record. Great tunes.

Easy listen for a Friday. The big hits 'Imagine' and 'Jealous Guy' are of course familiar, being so woven into the fabric of pop culture, but other tracks are much more interesting to me. Particularly like the depth of the arrangements on some of the tracks rather than the song writing particularly. The diss track 'How Do You Sleep?' stands out on today's merry-go-round. The mix with the bass right in the front and the vocal a little bit back in the mix. Funky drums - the offbeat in the chorus, with the guitar doubling the bass line. Cool pace. Cool orchestration. I like the really clean guitar and keys solos too. Other stand out tracks... 5: I don't wanna be a soldier mama - has a similar vibe here, which comes to the fore a few listens through. A bit brisker pace, but still the washy sounds of piano and rhythm guitar right in the back and funky drum and awesome bass line. It even has sax that's ok. Happy to skip over 10 'Oh Yoko!'. 4 has become my 'yeah' number. Total tracks 10 Fave track: #8 How Do You Sleep? Others: 5: I don't want to be a soldier mama. 4: It's so hard.

Ahh, lovely. It's not the Plastic Ono Band, but a strong second release in Lennon's solo repertoire. The title song is of course a classic. I love the oomph in John's voice in Gimme Some Truth, but I really love the final song, Oh Yoko! It's just so damn sweet

How Do You Sleep? is my favorite track. Nothing against McCartney but what a dis-track. Beautifully done...Kendrick and Drake got nothing on this. Rest of the album...well it sounds like John Lennon. I know that sounds silly but lets be honest...you know what I mean by saying that haha

Great album 4/5

7.5/10

(6/7) If this album isn't proof that therapy works, I dont know what is.

Great record. Lennon on his own. Great songwriting

i like i wanna listen some more

Lennon's finest solo album and it did'nt change my opinion on listening again after probably 10 years. Classic songs with classic arrangements.

How did I not listen to this before??

Jealous Guy is a masterpiece, but Donny Hathaway sung it better.

This album is really good. I understand why people hate John Lennon he was not a great person but if you hated the music of everyone who wasn't a good person you wouldn't listen to half of music anymore. Obviously this is a very politically charged album but there are some quality songs here. Imagine obviously, crippled inside is another good one, and some others. There were bluesy notes throughout the album that I enjoyed.

Thanks to the list I've listened to post-Beatles albums from George Harrison (All Things Must Pass), Paul McCartney (McCartney), and now John Lennon. Of the three, this is definitely the best. I'm still humming some of the songs in my head a couple hours after listening. While John Lennon was certainly not the greatest human being, he was definitely a f'ing musical genius. Great album by a generational talent.

Starts off with the wonderful Imagine, always loved this song. Crippled Inside was pretty fun, as was It's So Hard. Jealous Guy was smooth and a pleasure to listen to, as was How Do You Sleep, which had really good guitar work. Oh Yoko was pretty nice, as was Oh My Love. All in all a fun listen. Definitely like this better than the Beatles albums. Best song: Imagine

Imagine is, of course, amazing. The rest? Meh.

I really like this album for the most part. There are a couple songs that don’t work for me but the ones I do like oh yoko and imagine are so great that the others can feel like background noise.

favorites: all except tracks 8 through 10

I loved it

Eh, fine a little boring. 7.3/10
