British "hip-hop" is so bad. So many other hip-hop records deserve a space on this list over this. That said, it was better than The Streets, so it has that going for it.

Do not like rap

What an annoying sounding rapper. I think the problem is his delivery. Most songs also had very annoying bass sounds. The best song by far was Do It! followed by Jezebel.

# 442 : 24/03/2025 : Can't listen to it, don't like it, - must be a Rap thing. Repetitive and annoying with zero edge. Some songs In the middle were a bit better but still awful. I can't comprehend how people would pay money for this and even harder to believe that someone paid for it to be made. Another album which makes you reconsider whether there are as many as 1,001 albums you must listen to before you die.

Can't stand grime at all A couple of tracks were ok, but everything else was pure shite

This just isn’t something I’d listen to.

Argh, this was really annoying to listen to

The very simple and repetitive electronic beats made this very difficult to listen to.

Not for me

Nah…

Just have to skip it when anything rap or hip hop pops up and unfortunately they pop up too often. Starting to think that this site might be bot generated 🤔 because I fail to see why these pop up so much when thinking about all the great albums that have been made. Don't get it. So wish there was a zero starred rating but as there isn't that option, reluctantly it gets one 😕

Rap In Da Yookay

no, tyvm. i hate being dizzy and i’m def not a rascal.

The Good: Nice album art! The Bad: Grime… The Ugly: Still not understanding how to get rid of grime… WTF? The bad string of luck of the past week continues, worse, I am now on a 3-day run of 1* albums… How I wish that this app would stick to the original 1001 list which ran through the 1990’s and doesn’t include this modern crap. Also, I feel bad about my snobbery, as I fully understand that the young kids these days eat this shit up… Still… 1*

Noooooooo, por favor. Eso NO es MUSICA, digan lo que quieran, pero eso es ...

The Brits do it again by needlessly slaughtering another beloved genre.

Yeah no

Truly might be one of the most godawful things I have ever heard in my whole entire life. Terrible, grating beats, with the worst flow and lyrics. If this isn't one of the lowest rated albums on this list I will be pissed.

One good track, another fair track, mostly annoying - 1.5 stars

Hahhahaahah what is this crap? Sorry, dude, it's fine if you push the mediocre British pop rock bands on us, but this is, what do you English call it? SHITE. Listen to US rap more and you'll see why this is a complete joke. 0/5, even the god awful Krautrock was better than this.

ok, stay where you are and don't disturb my circles.

Garbage.

This was terrible. I suffered through 5 songs before I gave up though. Hot garbage!

Terrible.

Nope, rap is not music. 1/5 It may be poetry but I don’t enjoy listening to poetry

I liked one song

Utter garbage

More Hip Hop Trash. 1/5

heinous

Geistesgestörtes Geheule aus UK mit unverständlichen Rap und Hip Hop Elementen. Dies ist keine Musik, das war Folter und verstösst gegen die Charta der Menchenrechte.

Couldn’t make it through this one. Too much EDM combined with bad rhymes.

Whatever this was I hated it.

Got through maybe 2 songs. Maybe the rest were bangers?

Would like to try some of what the Mercury Prize panel were smoking in 2003

I never listen to hip hop. But through this initiative I have discovered some albums and songs that are worth it. They have some melodic rhythm and lyrics that are important. I am not a hip hop historian, but this is where everything went wrong in my opinion - around this time. This is an atrocity. I managed to finish it, but it was horrible.

not my thing

not my thing didnt like the beats, the flow, nothing really.

nah sorry echt nit..

An hour of grime. Yaaaaay. Doesn't even have Bonkers on it.

#398. This is the second British rap album I've listened to on this list [and the second British rap album I've listened to in my life] and they've both been shit. At least the Little Simz one made me laugh, this one just makes me wish I was deaf. 1/5: leave the rap to the Americans, the British just don't know how to do it.

Oh my god this is awful. This sounds like a YouTube rapper. The rap acts that aren't in this list is astonishing, but Dizzee Rascal makes the cut. This is like a cross between Azalea Banks and The Streets, both of whom are probably in the list too. The beat is distracting, the accent is annoying and seems almost comical when you think about British gangsters meeting up with, as Easy put it, Real Muthaphuckin' Gs. The voice distortion effects turn this from bad to bad and ridiculous. The delivery is so terrible. I bet MIA loves this album. This is considered "the greatest British hip hop record of all time", that's insane. They should stick to rock and roll. Jus' a Rascal is the best song except for the chorus. This is one of the worst rap albums I've ever heard. The robot filter on the vocals makes it sound like EV-99 from Jabba's palace is on the album. This is also a very long album. The UK bias of the editors are on full display with this absolutely terrible addition.

The sound that emanates from the windows (down of course to share) of a teenage dirtbag in his first car, 4am on a thursday.

Not sure how this made it on the list. Not one good track here.

I recently heard that musical genres have a 40 lifespan (rock: 1955-95; Jazz: 1925-65; etc). I felt like I was listening to the death rattle of rap here. First, I couldn’t understand what the fuck saying; and after reading the lyrics I quickly learned I didn’t care. Maybe I’m too biased having grown up in the Golden Age of Rap/Hip-Hop. The background beats/sounds became annoying enough to cause involuntarily spasms to the skip arrows and uncontrollable rocking and drooling in hopes the change of stimuli would make things better. It didn’t. Englishmen/women elevated rock; complimented blues; made some kick ass Indie/alt. But I have yet to hear British Rap that wasn’t an insult to the genre. Like Ariana Grande to every man ever: Thank You…Next!

noise: /noiz/ noun - a sound, especially one that is loud or unpleasant or that causes disturbance.

Not trying to gatekeep all things music, but I will definitely come down on anyone that thinks there is some sort of music in this. 1/5

Where is the possibility to give a negative rating? Or at least a zero? Anything less than 1 would make me happy. What a terrible, terrible album!

"one of the most acclaimed records of 2003 and went on to win the Mercury Prize for best album from the UK and Ireland". ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME .... It was painful , and NO ONE MUST HEAR this. STOP DAT!

Riding 'round in a Rover If I see opps then it's over I'll send man straight to Jehovah When I take shots like M. Sharapova Doing up tennis Call man Dennis, I'm a Menace Doing up olives in Venice Big man ting, I'm bigger than Ben-is

Sorry but no, thanks anyway

Maybe I've just watched too much of Da Ali G show, but I cannot take this album seriously. Dizzee's name, voice, and lyrics all sound absolutely ridiculous, but it seems that he takes himself entirely seriously. Several times while listening to this album I started wondering if it's some kind of comedy or parody album, because surely no one would actually put this into the world thinking it's good. I think I might just have a major issue with a British accent in hip-hop, but I really just cannot get into this album at all.

I couldn't even finish this one. Not a fan of this music at all.

Grime is one of the worst musical gifts that England has given to, well, just England as none of this travels for obvious reasons. A mildly popular sub genre that gets far far far too much media attention. This is slightly interesting but no more.

Cool to hear a genre I probably haven't encountered before, but I don't enjoy this sound and I don't think it's for me.

He needs to stay in the corner and think about what he did.

Annoying voice and beats. Couldnt wait for it to end.

That was repetitive and annoying as hell. I had to cut some tracks short the bleep bloops were so annoying.

Can’t listen to garbage like this

It's nearly impossible to hear Dizzee Rascal rapping over the music; it's so poorly mixed. A lot of it is painful to listen to. The refrains are bad. Like, really bad. The verses are fine, but the refrains should be a rest from the verses. But when they're this bad, they aren't a rest, and I'm just exhausted trying to listen to this. At least it's recognizable as music. Favorite Song(s): Jus' a Rascal

No thank you.

Another one I couldn’t finish. Sorry rap

Being given shit like this makes me wonder if it’s worth carrying on

It made me appreciate music more and I'm not even being sarcastic. Listen to a few songs and then put one you really like. The difference is like burnt food and good food. Not my thing for sure.

Rap, 2003, sehr nervig -> 1

I really struggled with this one, had to skip about 1/2 the songs, I guess I could see the appeal in a few tracks but overall this pretty bad.

Not a fan. A genre I'm not inclined to write, with annoying production, and a voice I can't understand, partially because of accent, partially because of sayings, and partially because I just don't think it's that good. Might deserve a spot on the list as an example of a rap subgenre, but I didn't need to hear it.

The British have a mixed record with interpreting American forms of music. Rhythm and blues? Imperfect, but pretty great. Jazz? Not much to talk about, but inoffensive. Rap? An assault on the ears. Best song: Fix Up, Look Sharp

0/15 honestly. Couldn’t get into it and it was just all over the place tbh. Not a good one.

People really like listening to this? Why? Which part? Goddamn this is really unpleasant in absolutely every way.

Sucks balls. 0 stars if I could.

Low 2or1

Imposible escucharlo.

Quit after track 3🤢

Er so å høre på en 5åring spille på et piano for første gang

british rap roadman

p892. 2003. 1 star. Rap/grime, so wrong audience. It's tedious beyond belief, and the Cockney accent makes this almost unbearable. Difficult to give any stars to someone who thinks it's OK to assault women.

Crap rap

This is my 423rd album, and I feel like the best days are behind me. The entire week I've been served with albums I did not like, in genres I do not enjoy. Add Dizzee Rascal to the list, who made me feel dizzy indeed. Incomprehensible lyrics, annoying and repetitive beats, ugh. I can at least appreciate hip hop when it's good, but this was NOT. I could not wait for it to be over

Gonna be honest, listened to one song and was like... yeah nah... skipped. not my thing

Not a fan. Shouldn’t be on this list.

I like quite a lot of oldschool rap and hip-hop but this was almost unbearable to listen to, especially the first half. Perhaps the lyrics are great, I don't know, I don't listen to such fast rapping carefully as a non native speaker, but musically this album was repetititve, boring and annoying at times. Once I would someone to sit down with me and explain why this album has such great critical acclaim and why was it so successful....I don't get it now.

Really not for me. Can’t stand the accents.

Absolute dogshit

nigdy nie kumalem jego fenomenu, mial jeden hit ktory robila muzyka a nie jego seplenienie

What in the 2003? This was unlistenable at times. The aggressiveness of this man’s accent comes through so frighteningly strong. I couldn’t understand what he was so angry about for 90% of what was said. Combined with the…interesting choices in the backing tracks and I just really didn’t connect with this album. I wanted it to end multiple times. But it was an hour long. So it felt like it was never going to. This might be a masterpiece and I’m a fool. But I really don’t think so. I just didn’t enjoy it. 1 star.

A bunch of pointless noise. Didn't like it at all.

Not my cup of tea I get the cultural context of rap, but I still don't really like how the lyrics are all about "I am so great" and "fuck X", or "pussy" in some cases. Specially since I feel the lyrics are the point of them

I found this thoroughly unenjoyable and often entirely unintelligible. I am willing to admit that it is perhaps that I just don't "get it" but nonetheless I won't be listening again.

Buf! Cansadoto ya de rap. El rap es una expresión artística, no lo dudo. Pero no es música...

Highly recommend this of you like mindless noise.

Listened Before? N What the hell? No. Just no. Awful. Songs added to playlist: Fix Up, Look Sharp

So tacky and derivative. Not too fan of this :(

Nope, not British rap please

could i write poetry to this? n

I sometimes get Dizee Rascal confused with Rascal Flatts.

Didn't finish, I found the rhymes and beats to just be grating

0.5 no one with this thick a British accent should be allowed to rap

There is something worse than gangsta rap. Gangsta rap with a cockney accent. This was hilariously cliched and stunningly bad.

If I made a list a list of 2001 albums I needed to hear before I died, this wouldn’t be on the list.

not capable of listening to british rap

Schrecklich. Das war kaum zum Aushalten. Das mag ich mir nicht noch einmal anhören.

Not for me.

this is hot fire, burns up into a crisp after the 1st track. nothing else is worth mentioning.

Outro disco de hiphop, né? Até tenta soar como trip-hop, mas fica cansativo.

I started on one. Skipped through seven more. Then cleaned my ears and brain out with Boston and Deep Purple. 1 star.

Garbage

0 completely a shit album

My god. This needs to stop. It was such a chore to listen to this drivel.

Not my thing

I FF’d/listened to about 8 of the 15 tracks. A couple of the songs were better than I expected… especially the one with… Billy Squier!… but still, not very listenable to me. Most of the tracks are just repetitive rap. Don’t think I’ll listen to this one through. I will never fully get nor appreciate this genre. But that’s on me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just don't think this would be on the list of an American wrote this list. I feel there are better rappers in America. I know I'm probably biased though. Probably a cultural thing...

Rap is not my thing.

Beats sounded like a kid on an ipad made them. Most was unlistenable.

Not for me. Got about 1/2-way through.

Would not listen again.

Couldn't finish this. Maybe it's my own deficiency but I've yet to hear a grime song I genuinely enjoy

Oooooh my god, I hated every second I could handle. Did not finish.

There is a track called Hold Ya Mouf, which I assume means Hold Your Mouth. Should’ve taken his own advice.

I have seen Mr Rascal on the BBC version of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and been very impressed. And the fact that I have just listened to the whole of this album goes a long way to demonstrate just how much I wanted to find something positive to say about it. And like a toothless parrot I did succeed. There were some interesting sounds used in some of these tracks, unfortunately on the whole it just epitomised the whole of this genre that is the only word I know of that begins with a silent 'c'. Yes this was definitely crap. Would give it 0 if I could.

Dreadful init

Initially I started listening to this on laptop speakers, then I thought better of it, assuming "it'll sound much better in headphones". I am here to tell you it sounds the same. There seems to be exactly nothing beneath the surface here. I'll admit there's some cool stuff rhythmically here and there. I did listen to the whole thing, but by halfway through I couldn't wait for this album to be over.

Just couldn't get into it.

Those were definitely some sounds.

Rap and EDM fusion should have been enough to sell this to me but it turned out it took two parts of both genres that I am not a fan of

Sorry I don't know if it was my mood or what but I could not stand this mans voice. Didn't make it past the second song

Imposible escucharlo. 1

Ok, I suspect this was a seminal album with nothing ever like it being heard before but it's really not my music. Whilst I appreciate the vocal talent Dizzee has (had?), I didn't find the music that surrounded his voice to be particularly well produced or inspiring. I guess this is all about the tempo, the 'bristishness', and the particular street/urban/alienated community experience. I get it, I understand why it woudl be so ground breaking and popular, but it's not my music.

Not really my cup of tea. Since it's my birthday I'm going to skip over this one and play yesterday's album again instead.

It was a bit refreshing to hear British rap. It's not something I have ever listened to before. However, the Grime music genre isn't for me.

Just a Rascal is alright, but possibly just for nostalgia reasons. The rest is very dated and Jezebel just made me angry.

The kind of music that someone with a lobotomy couldn't even have liked. I cannot stress enough the utter garbage this album was. And what's more insulting, yes... insulting, is that this made the 1001 list but not other 90s hip hop classics. I'm seriously thinking that this is the worst album I've heard yet, and I'm 700+ albums deep at the time of writing. 0/10.

I'm sorry I cannot take British rap / grime music seriously

Couldn't finish it. Not for me

Grime ain't for me!

not a fan.

I’m impressed he was able to get so much time in the spotlight with such retarded raps and truly fucking horrible beats.

This is definitely not my thing. Nothing against the artist. I'm sure he makes good music, it's just that this isn't my preferable type of hip hop or rap. And since English isn't my first language it is really hard to hear what he is singing

Like dizzee but not the album

20 years ago I used to hate this type of music but thought I'd give it a chance as your music taste can change over time and boy was I wrong. It's even worse than I originally thought. Absolute fucking dog shit and that "accent". Fuck me.

I hate this. It's god awful. Stay in the corner!

Absolutely hated it.

One of the worst things I’ve listen to, I can get behind some grime but this is horrific. Boring lyrically and musically, even the production is bad it just sounds horrible. Mind opening how bad this is.

Fifty-seven minutes and eight seconds of my life that I will never get back.

No me gusta el g{enero de este album

I listened to part of it but it’s just so repetitive that I had to stop.

I hate the London rap accent so much. Also these beats are so horribly cheap sounding. Really monotonous. I want to support UK hip hop, but not this.

I just don’t get it ! Eventually the tracks all start to sound the same, then just get annoying. 1 or 2*

Not a big fan. There was the odd song toward the end that was interesting.

Sorry, but I find this music unlistenable.

This is not for me. I disliked every second of that album.

Goofiest album of all time. This feels like an internet shitpost. Something you'd hear on an ironic Youtube video about the "Top 10 Hottest Anime Characters" that's just a Windows Movie Maker slideshow with really blurry images. Cockney rappers are the funniest shit ever. I think I understood like 3 words this guy said. My ears feel sore now.

I tried. Honestly, I didn't really enjoy this from the beginning but for a little while I was gonna give it some credit for the production and for his interesting flow. But somewhere around Jus' a Rascal I really began to hate this. Sorry Dizzee.

should not be on this list

Not good, some might say this is shit... Its me ill say its shit. Not sure what his target was but he missed it.

Not my kind of music

Not for me

I thought it was kind of bland and couldn't really focus on it.

2/10. I won't say this has no musical value, and for a bit during "I Luv U" my Stockholm syndrome built up enough to convince me parts of it sounded cool, but otherwise I fucking hated this shit, it was so damn annoying and I just wanted it to end, which it thankfully has now done.

The nicest thing I can say about this album is it certainly sounds different, but that still isn't a compliment. It sounds like they took all the Samsung ringtones no one ueses because they sound weird and made beats out of them, but squeaker and more repetitive.

Gruwelijk kutte drill-rap ofzo, 0/5

No I just couldn’t get through this. I think this is my new least favourite genre from today

Garbage

There has been some bad shit on this list, but there’s ranks with the worst of them. Unintelligible noise, i cannot describe it as music. Cover art 4/5

album's trash plus he's an abuser, BIG L

Repetitive

I didn’t think there’d be another British rap album to rival that streets album but here we are. This grime album was just as hard to listen to despite being slightly better with flows and production. I would even go so far as to say I luv u is an alright song but the rest is ass

No thank you. Really difficult to listen to. It’s a jumbled mess that manages to essentially sound the same throughout. And that’s not a good thing.

Rubbish.

Just like Showtime this DR album gets a bit on my nerves and hard to listen to in one go.

Definitely not my cup of tea. Wonky beats, odd tone. Just unpleasant to listen to.

Every single song is a 3-4 second loop that repeats for 3-4 minutes

no no no

This turned out to be the long-awaited so-bad-it's-good album. It's audacious; That's a word. The sounds of grime are clearly present, and I'm intrigued by the production if nothing else. That's mostly it: Few of the lyrics grabbed me, making me feel the need for a trim. But the minimal beats require the kind of exposition we get. The two halves never come together, and the effect is jarring and less than pleasant. To enjoy this I need it to be shorter or I need to listen to it a dozen more times. That latter shot is long.

I used to listen to this in College and didn't love it. Even harder for me to understand now. All I can really hear are the cuss words.

Made me feel nervous and stressed. I liked some of the instrumentation and the lyrics of the first song.

04/16/2022 Really bad, loud noise. Filled with random electronic sounds and brash clanging. Didn't bother exploring pas track 4... it's nonsense.

Pure garbage.

Album is well produced and the combination of electronic and rap is interesting, but it's not my type of rap. Disliked a lot the vocals.

Hundleiðinleg plata. Mæli ekki með.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Jus' a Rascal Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: I don't skip songs on the first listen for this list but this was the hardest test of that rule yet. Lyrics and the performances are decent but good LORD is the production horrifically abrasive and shotgun blasts (given the album's origin a better phrase would be shanks) almost any enjoyment I would've had.

Der größte Dünnschiss, den ich seit langem gehört habe. Und in dieser Liste war schon einiger Schrott dabei. Unerträglich.

Не моё

Could not finish this one.

Rap is my least favorite genre of music, I don’t have any critical comments to make but I did not enjoy listening to this.

I fuckin' hate Dizzee. This is not music, it's a festering hive of scum and villainy, like your mum's flaming cunt.

Awful. Jezebel lyrics are interesting & I guess the albums’ an insight into a violent loser culture I’lol never understand

Imposible escucharlo. 1

No me gusta ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not into rap
