Reviews (page 7 of 7)
I find this album rather irritating, in a listening to R.E.M. kind of way.
I don't know much Hüsker Dü, which I guess is a sin since I live in MN. Regardless, this alt-rock sound does nothing for me, it's there and inoffensive but it doesn't move me in any way. Sounds like they were originally more of a punk/hardcore band so if those albums come up I may be into that more.
This is fine. The guitar tone doesn't cut at all, so the sound seems a little too round for the style. Their sound is really reminiscent of a lot of bands, especially the vocal tone. Some of these songs I think could be really good, but the overly compressed sound and poor dynamic choices really hamstring this album's impact. Tell You Why Tomorrow is a perfect example.
Nothing impressed me with this album. I felt like the singing was often overwhelmed by the music and all you could hear was the title phrase being repeated over and over
I thought it was fine, pretty bland though.
I can definitely hear their influence on other bands. But I didn't like this very much
Ugh. I was in college when they were pushing this as college rock. I just can't. His voice grates on me.
This was a strangely underwhelming record given that you can clearly hear Hüsker Dü’s influence on so many later post-punk and pop-punk artists. I didn’t enjoy it very much, but it probably deserves to be on this list.
I can't really say that this album did anything for me. It all kind of sounded the same and I didn't feel much of a connection to any of it. I guess I can see why the band opted to call it quits after this.
2.8 - I just hear a group of awkward suburban dads who decided to relive their glory days gigging in bands - listen closely and you can hear the gurgling beer bellies and flapping double chins.
It doesn’t start that bad and props for being different in the era of horrible music but it just drags a lot.
It wasn't quite so bad that I had to skip songs halfway through, but I'm quitting the album after 7 tracks. It's too distracting and frankly, pretty annoying. I quite dislike the tinny-sounding production and the chaotic vibes of the album.
Interesting to hear this, and it feels like it influenced bands and a sound. As an album it's too long and pointless.
not for me
Why is it so damn long. Also it's just kinda boring you know, but at the same time so noisy. Maybe I want something without a guitar for once.
Not my speed
So much noise
Nope
Why did this have to be so long? Listening to this was like being tied to a chair while your house was burning down. Favourite Track(s): Too Much Spice, She Floated Away Least Favourite Track(s): Actual Condition
Boring
To be perfectly honest, I find the album — and the band's entire sound — awful. 'Four chords that made a million' (if there are even four). There's not much more boring than American indie rock with a punk attitude — maybe British indie rock is a little worse, but only maybe. I thought Hüsker Dü were awful back then, even when all my friends were raving about them. And if it didn’t appeal to the ‘rebel’ in me back then, it certainly won’t now. Of course, I know that behind the band’s raucous sound there are two clever minds, and that the band had a lot to say through their lyrics, but for me, unfortunately, it's not much more than 70 minutes wasted. I just can't get the message.
Personally, not for me. Every song felt the same to me. Sorry to this man. Friend You’ve Got to Fall isn’t too bad though.
Boring instrumentals, nothing lyrics, and far too long. The only thing Hüsker Dü is put me to sleep.
Nope.
Unlistenable. Everything sounds the same and forcing myself to listen to this feels like the reverse of that scene from A Clockwork Orange.
One more case of "I'd heard of this artist/band, but never actually listened to them". And I'm thankful this is a closed gap now. That's all I have to say about this.
😧Would’ve given two stars, but one hour plus of this shit…fuck you
my biggest gripe is that every song sounds so identical. if you skip half way into almost every track, its damn near the same tempo, distortion guitar, and the drum track may as well just be a metronome. It was a chore to get through this one.
zzzzzzz
Too much background noise.
Album 111. Warehouse: Songs And Stories (https://open.spotify.com/album/1By3l3EcAlNZXJvSOHFJ98?si=fZxT9fnOSrOfBMLXlvIipg) — Hüsker Dü (1987) It's boring, shitty rock, ooops. It's such a default and tasteless rock like stock photos. Very long album, like an eternity, but a hell of an eternity. I feel like I listened to the same song 20 times for 70 minutes. Crap 1/5 No liked songs
This is such nothing music. Like the soundtrack to a forgettable 90s film.
Shittiest REM cover band.
a whole lot of nothing and repetitive songs

Q: What do you get if you strip The Wedding Present of all their charm and wit A: Husker Du
Cool, an album that the artists themselves didn't like. Why is this on here?
I can almost explain why I don’t like this but it’s gonna take too much effort and I just wanna move on.
if REM decided to make the worst punk album you’ve ever heard.
Het kost me teveel kruim.
It started out ok, the first few tracks reminded me of Green Day, in a very remote way. It just got worse with each track after that, and I had to turn it off about halfway through.
Listening to this album is like listening to my mother telling a story. Goes on and on and on and on and on. Doesn't really say anything, just talks. Eventually your eyes glaze over and it all turns into background noise. Every now and then there is a pause, and you get excited...phew it's over...but nope they pick right back up and continue to ramble on until mercifuly it's over. Initially I thought this album was a weak 3/strong 2. It was generic rock, pretty mundane but not bad, but after 30 minutes it actually got annoying. I asked myself, is there not one person in this band that realizes every song sounds exactly the same?!?! Rating moved to a 2...leaning towards a weak 2. After 45 minutes I started getting upset. It felt like being at the golden coral. They know the food is bad, you know the food is bad but you go because its all you can eat and cheap. Music is terrible, but you bought the album so you're getting value. Rating is weak 2, moving towards a strong 1 After an hour I was legit mad, convinced I'm being punked. The album is a test to see how many times they can feed you the same damn song until you turn it off. Rating is a low 1, and a long winded review that doesn't really say anything about the music other than it's terrible.
Below average rock album. Nothing interesting musically. I would have given it a 2, but over an hour of this is just begging for a 1. This is not one of the 1001 albums I needed to listen to before I died, although it might have given me less time on this floating space rock to get through the rest of the list.
This is a tough one. Each song sounds the same...and I can see why this was their last album before disbanding. Doesn't seem like they put any effort. Also, 20 songs and they all sound similar? Big yikes. Update: I can't finish this album. This is a BIG no from me.
I thought the first song was the Friends soundtrack. Other songs give Counting Crows or Spin Doctors. 1/5
Not for me
An hour of this? Annoying rock with terrible vocals, and one of the worst looking album covers I’ve ever seen
Still not as good as REM
I personally think some of these albums would receive higher ratings if they were not on back to back days of each other. I feel I should just copy and paste my last review because it’s the same sentiment - no variety within the album or songs. What I enjoy more about the EELS album is a mixup of tempo - like give me a few slow songs on this album and rating would skyrocket. Alas, I’m not seeing much difference here with this boi. Album art is dope as hell tho - would rather sit in silence for 1 hour looking at this album cover then actually listen to it again. What language was the last song in - like alien?
Listened to the first six songs and gave up. Also AN HOUR AND NINE MINUTES??? Nah fam
Couldn’t get through this album, this was background music to me and I don’t care to go back, too damn long
I’m aware of Hüsker Dü, but never listened before today. So far I don’t see the draw. It’s raw and fuzzy. I’m going to try to get past me being an audio snob and listen to the “songs” here.
a long album of not great music, no thanks
I absolutely hated listening to this album. Sounded like a shit version of REM. awful cover and the album was way too long. Hüsker Dü, you got me on the wrong day.
I'd rather work in a warehouse than listen to an hour of a dollar store Punk Rock version of R.E.M. Favorite Track: "Standing In The Rain", I guess...it sure as hell has been raining quite a bit this Summer.
couldnt do it. Didnt sound interesting or unique. another pop album passing as indie.
While I appreciate seeing a band from my neck of the woods on the list, Hüsker Dü is not good. This isn't even a good Hüsker Dü album as far as Hüsker Dü albums go. Even if the songs were good, the production on this album is terrible - it just sounds bad, like they recorded it from the opposite end of the warehouse. I can't explain why this album is on the list and I am worse off for having heard it. I award no stars and am reconsidering this 1001 albums thing.
Tough. Every time I had to stop and revisit the album to listen to the rest it was a struggle. Super boring. I saw someone else write “Husker Don’t” on their review and I have to agree.
Badly performed, terribly produced and mixed, awfully repetitive. One of the worst things I’ve come across on this project so far.
i- noup. just no. no.
well i don't understand it at all, in a bad way. this actually sounds like shit and a long one too, i just can't handle it
Another case of - why is this on here?
Gear: Grado Hemp Artwork: 🪴💈🟥 Production: 🔪👂🩸 Music: 😱😖💩 Rating: 💆♂️/5
2/10…punk / rock
punk underground duro
Unsurprisingly quite shit. Spend the whole 1 HR and 9 min shit talking in my head. You've heard it all before and it all sounds the same, honestly could not really tell songs apart
Changing to the next song and yay! It's the same song again!
Dreary
This sounds like it was recorded using a tin can.
i don't know about this one. it's all fine but it's all starting to sound the same.
So... uh... I guess I needed to hear this before I died... at least, that's what I've been told... There wasn't a single thing about this that was particularly enjoyable, interesting, or revolutionary. Plus, it ran way too long. If this had been consolidated into 30 minutes (with ANY variety), I MIGHT have given it a 2 for being considerate of my time, but as it is: Crap x 2 = 1 Pile of Shit.
Didn't know the band. After a few tracks, I realized that they pretty much all sounded the same. Too much noise, fair vocal and in the end, annoying.
Nah

shit from butt
Horrible. Cannot suffer through for a complete first listen.
Having worked in different warehouses for years, I can ascertain that this is the kind of awful that your coworkers would put on the AUX speaker system for everyone to dread through
Not a fan
Well it wasn't what I expected with the heavy use of umlauts, but I didn't enjoy it much, either. Double albums are a slog when nothing really grabs you
forse a 15 anni si
Didn’t finish. Didn’t enjoy. Sounded too 80s for my taste and that’s just not my marmalade
Nothing new here
Once again punk, rock? Not great music.
Yelling and thrashing.
Too much rock in this list. Boring.
Nothing to hear here.
nah
I didn't really understand why this album was on the list. Personally found it to be a complete nothing of an album. I don't HATE it or anything but it's so unremarkable it might be worse than hating it.
This is the first album that I have not been able to finish. Like holy shit that production, like what am I meant to be hearing? It sounds like it was recorded in a crisp packet. Sometimes the music can save shit production, but this is not the case. Whiny bar chords and weak vocals. But then I started to look up the context behind this, and how they basically hated each other at the time of the album and I think one of them never even listened to it. I do find it interesting listening to an album with that kinda history and seeing if you can find the signs of tension or apathy in the music. I've never heard another Husker Du song, so maybe the shitness of the album is because they did not wanna be in the recording studio together. Still... 1 / 10
Punk my favorite music genre NOT. Highly irritating noise.
Boooo I like the album cover though
Hmmm. I don't have much to say about this one. I slogged through it and found regrettable at best. No water in the well for me here.
Could not finish this album. Every song sounds exactly the same, with poor mixing and ass vocals. Not to mention the 70 minute length. Hard pass. I'd heard everything this album has to offer after listening to three songs, and it's not much.
Horrendously overrated band and album that couldn't end fast enough. This was a painful listen.
I had to take a break half way through, and listened to Everything Falls Apart as a palate cleanser.
I know this is classic, but it's not for my taste
I’m aware of HD. I never heard their music(?) before today. My family, friends, coworkers, colleagues, the entire world, et al…. NO ONE ever recommended them to me.
Mmh
I like Husker Du but this album isn't it.
Noooooooooo! Not for me.
One of the most boring, generic, and souless rock albums I have ever heard. I have a rule I call the "generic rule", where if an album is not actively awful, but is super generic and uninteresting I give it a 2. But this album gets a 1 for not only being generic, but also for being over an hour, and having some of the shittest production I have ever heard in my life.
Just your average rock album. Nothing special
VITTU VELKAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! HUSKERI VITTU DUULLE!!!!! NOH KÄÄNTÄKÄÄS NE TASKUT NURIN PÄIN JA PULITTAKAA VITTU NIITÄ KOLIKEITA HUSKERILLE!!!! VITTU MAAILMAN SUURIN, MAAILMAN HIENOIN, MAAILMAN PARAS BÄNDI JOKA ON KOSKAAN OLLUT TAI TULEE KOSKAAN OLEMAAN.. HUSKERIII!!!!!!!! the glazing is crazy ice cold ice
nah didn't like this one.
Before this, I had only heard of Husker Du. I really didn’t like it at all
truly sounds like an average bar band to me? feel like a dick and know people love em, but et
Not for me
More like Husker don’t
Sooo boring, every song sounds the same. Couldnt finish. Sucks.
The only way I can see being inspired by this would be to learn what not to do
Not great...
Ja echt super kut
Tja, ich finde es schrecklich
Green Days trucho
Dull, basic, middle of the road and frankly boring American rock music. Wikipedia says they are a punk band which is utter nonsense.
Didn’t really grab me. Guess I’m not a fan of 80s alternative?
A bad day to have ears
I hate this. I can turn it really far down in the background and it's kind of like a sound machine. I can imagine loving it if I were twenty in '86 and dancing drunk in a sneezy basement club. On some good uppers. But this sound that feels like it defined a certain kind of angsty Gen X eighties alt rock is something I do not like. Makes one yearn for the wrecking ball of grunge and rap 'round the corner.
I'm aware that this influenced bands that I enjoy, but I didn't particularly like this and I didn't find it interesting. 1 because it's a five point scale.
I'm now about halfway through this album whilst writing this, and I have to say, this is incredibly "nothing" music. It's like R.E.M, but far less interesting and notable. Every song comes in one ear and out the other, to the point of being tedious. We'll see if it does better in the back half, but if it doesn't, I can see this being a one star just for wasting my time. Yep, this was a waste of time. I mean, why bother with a double album if nothing is gonna change in the whole runtime? Perhaps not a one star on a song by song basis, but as an album, this is pointless.
Not even heroin could save this band
Not really my style. Never heard of this band before and it's pretty forgettable
Up there with the worst of the worst
Every track sounded the same..
First listen Saved 2/20 Top track: Ice Cold Ice
Super boring. Were they really under the impression these were different songs? I couldn't finish it.
sounds like the type of person who would listen to this only drinks pbr & jameson and says "you're just too young, you wouldn't get it" about literally anything you disagree with them about, including this album.
To twangi for me
6 songs in, did not finish.
After the first few songs I keep hearing the friends' theme, also big head Todd and the Monsters. Not going to finish,
What in the overtly used reverb fuck was that. This must be on this list as a prank.
Not good
Bad. Bad album, not fun to listen to. Annoying, repetitive sound. Bad bad.
