Reviews (page 4 of 13)
Maybe a liiiiiitle more boring in places than I remember, but still a very pleasant listen. Probably more like a 3 1/2 star for me these days.
I like Norah Jones. Always have. I liked it when this came out and still do. Some people think it is too quiet, too kind of even keeled. but it depends on mood and what you are into on a given day. It IS quiet and under the radar. Not many drops and switch ups and random tweaks. Just a bluesy singer songwriter going at it and actually making it to commercial radio for a while. Good on her and good on us that we have this to listen to!
I’ve owned this CD since I was 12, but I’m not sure that I ever listened to the whole thing. I only knew 4 songs on it (Don’t Know Why, Seven Years, Come Away With Me, and Turn Me On). I used to like to sing all of those songs though. I definitely chose all the best songs on this album. None of the other songs really stood out to me.
Mother.
An album that was always on in my house growing up but I never heard the full thing until now. Its really good! The songs that were hits still hold up the other songs are wonderful as well. I especially like her version of "Cold Cold Heart." I feel like this would go best during a spring day while I'm relaxing on the porch so I tried to put my mind there while listening to it instead of the rainy morning commute I had while listening ing to it. If I could knock it for one thing its that it does get a bit one note at times but that is really my only complaint for what is a really great album. 4/5
я конечно не фанат такого, да и казалось местами душновато, но я представлял в моменты прослушивания как я со своей любимой гуляю по ночному городу, поэтому мне даже понравилось
3.5
Beautiful jazz/pop songs about love, loss and waiting, gorgeously sung and artfully crafted in every way.
Honestly great. It's smooth like silk and it makes me wanna watch rainfall with tea.
Wow what a voice really easy listen and very relaxing perfect for lazy Sunday mornings will listen to more
Not the most exciting, but still lovely.
7.0/10
Самое то для вечера
Basic bitch. but wholesome and cute. classy, even. themes and genre not familiar with.
Great album. Calm vibe, easiest of easy listening.
I enjoyed this! Kind of Fiona Apple-esque, kind of jazzy, reminds me somewhat of NFR! by Lana Del Rey. Those are both artists/albums that I would go to first for this style of music, but I certainly appreciate this album for what it is and certainly that it won Album of the Year at the Grammy's. I kind of wish an album with this much clear artistry could win again today. Favorites: Seven Years, Cold Cold Heart, I've Got To See You Again
Norah Jones' silky, smooth voice is entrancing. "Don't Know Why" is my favorite track, and when this album came out in the early 2000s, it brought some "supper club class" to the popular music scene. This a great album to play during an intimate dinner (plenty of references to love and passion), or even solo when just sipping some wine and enjoying quiet time.
Приятный и теплый альбом, шел, слушал и танцевал.
Love this smoove voiced wee legend
remembered her on the radio, but work enviroment little to loud to hear well.
Easy listening
Despite the fact that I went through a pretty intense phase a few years ago where I listened to maybe hundreds of records released by Blue Note, I never listened to this one. Which is a shame, because it's some of the best smooth vocal jazz I've ever heard in my life. Norah Jones doesn't just have a fantastic and smooth voice, but her band is on a whole different level. The arrangements are sharp, the delivery is soulful, and the entire record is a treat to listen to.
Fantastic. I remember when this came out, it was so different from pop but managed to attract a wide audience.
This was so comforting, will revisit for sure !
Intimate, soothing, and tender, Norah Jones has a voice that is full of soul and raw honesty. I was only familiar with the title song before this, but what a sweet treat this album is. Cold Cold Heart and I've Got To See You Again are my personal highlights.
Very gorgeous. Can effortlessly ease the mind. The tempo rarely changes so if you liked the first song, you’ll like them all. I’ve got to see you again might be the standout (Amy Winehouse vibes) but it’s a tough call, they’re all pretty strong
CLASSIC
14 straight bangers, no skips
Come Away with Me by Norah Jones is, for me, a fascinating contradiction. It’s undeniably beautiful, an exquisitely produced record with pristine sound quality, delicate arrangements, poetic lyrics, and truly impeccable vocals. Everything about it speaks of care, intimacy, and emotional intelligence. And yet, despite recognizing all of that, I couldn’t fully connect with it. And that, to me, is very interesting. I think a crucial part of this album is its emotional core. It’s a deeply romantic record, full of longing, tenderness, and emotional openness. And I have to be honest with myself, I’m not in that place right now. I’ve been single for a long time, and I’ve carried my share of disappointments. There’s a certain bitterness that settles in you after a while, a protective distance from the kind of vulnerability this album lives and breathes. So listening to it felt a bit like looking through a window at a life I’m not currently living. It wasn’t that I didn’t understand it. It was that I wasn’t feeling what she was feeling. Still, I can’t deny how brilliant it is. And because of that, I can’t give it a low rating. I’m not giving it five stars, because for me that rating implies not only admiration but emotional surrender. But four stars feels right. It honors the album’s quality, even if my heart wasn’t fully there. This experience also reinforced something I’ve been realizing throughout this listening journey, how much our emotional state shapes the way we receive music. When I listened to …And Justice for All by Metallica, it hit me perfectly because I was angry that day. I was furious, restless, and that harsh, aggressive sound made sense to me. It met me where I was. The same thing happened with Disintegration by The Cure. I was in a fragile, introspective state, and that album felt like it understood me. Even though it wasn’t the kind of music I would normally gravitate toward, emotionally, it fit. Music, I’m realizing, is as much about timing as it is about taste. From Come Away with Me, three songs stayed with me in a more personal way, Shoot the Moon, Nightingale, and The Nearness of You. These are beautiful, intimate moments that I know I’ll return to. So this is where I stand with this album today, four stars, admiration without full emotional connection. But who knows. Maybe one day I’ll fall in love again. Maybe I’ll return to this record with a softer heart, and the songs will open in ways they couldn’t today. Maybe I’ll discover nuances that right now feel just out of reach. Because sometimes, it’s not the album that changes. It’s us.
Highlights: Come Away with Me, Shoot the Moon, Turn Me On, Lonestar, One Flight Down, The Long Day is Over Lowlights: ------------------------------------ Great voice, very soothing instrumentation. Enjoyed it from cover to cover. Definitely sounded like a modern Joni Mitchell. Songs were a bit too samey for it to be a 5 but I was not disappointed in the slightest.
Sooooo relaxing, so nostalgic, and so peaceful. It’s nice to have some music you can just relax to.
very pleasant
Meget fint album.
I liked this album! I was a little surprised to hear some subtle jazz influence, reminiscent of the old Charlie Brown movies
I listened to this album while taking a slow walk around the campus where I work, losing track of time. I listened again while laying on the couch, waiting to go out for the night with friends. Yet another artist I had absolutely no familiarity with, I was surprised when Seth not only knew Norah Jones quite well, but in fact knew this album very well. I went in expecting the slow, guitar-or-piano driven pop music of the early 2000s, and I was mostly correct, though Nora sounds far jazzier than I expected. The slow and sparse instrumentation took me some time to appreciate; on a first listen, I kept thinking I was closer to the end of the album than I actually was, feeling like it was taking a long time to get there. But even then, I was appreciating Jones' smoky voice, which complimented and accentuated the gruffer bits of the instrumentals, grounding them in jazz sounds and preventimg them from feeling as weightless as a lot of other pop girls sounded in the 2000s. By the second listen I was on board, fully appreciating the beauty and sensuality of this album and the ease of Jones' performance, making such a laser-focused and and precise album sound effortless in execution. Highlights: Don't Know Why, Feelin' The Same Way, Come Away With Me, Turn Me On, I've Got To See You Again, One Flight Down, The Nearness Of You
Smooth, relaxing.
Herfst.
norah jones altijd goede tijd. 3 volumes is wel veel te veel dus ben ergens in vol. 2 afgehaakt
Beautiful voice, excellent production.
Her voice is so refreshing and soothing. When I listen to this album, I feel at peace. The instrumentals complement her voice so well, and I like the mix of different sounds on this album. There are songs with a laid back jazzy feel, but there are also songs that are more folky. Whatever the feel is, her voice and songwriting is the star of the show.
I remember listening to this on repeat in the 9th grade. Still hits
We liked this because she had a good voice. It was a vibe.
Great
Great Songs: Come Away with Me, Shoot the Moon, Turn Me On Good Songs: Don't Know Why, Seven Years, Cold Cold Heart, Feelin' the Same Way, Lonestar, Painter Song, One Flight Down, Nightingale, The Long Day Is Over, The Nearness of You Mid Songs: I've Got to See You Again Bad Songs:
The words 'Adult Contemporary' should inspire fear in the most steel-chested of men. And yet, putting on this album for a late-night clean-up of your adult living room with your adult glasses of wine with your contemporary art paintings bought at IKEA... life is good for a while.
Great album of smooth piano ballads and an enchanting voice. Hit on a perfect day when chill music was needed
We love Norah in this house. Minimum 4 for her.
Very smooth voice; starts off with a good song - Don't Know Why. This is very chill and nice to listen to.
Will admit I bought this when it came out. Norah Jones was EVERYWHERE for a while with this release. She has clearly got a great voice and these songs sound lovely when you're in a chilled mood (or need to chill out). Listening now, it's stood up, mainly because it's pretty timeless music. 4
Very soft kinda like a slow dance type song. I liked it a lot.
I genuinenly enjoy the softness of this album.
NORAH
very cute coffeehouse style album. reminds me of my uncle steve who used to listen to this kind of soft jazz
The 11 year old in me is enjoying the nostalgia trip. I can't find any fault with this album. Jones's voice is as smooth as butter, and she evokes the perfect dreamy summer day vibe.
Tracks I've heard before: None Top 3: Don't Know Why Feelin' The Same Way Nightingale Bottom 3: Cold Cold Heart Turn Me On The Long Day Is Over
Love her voice, nostalgic coffee shop vibes.
Smooth production and respectable instrumentation makes this remarkable
A really good jazz pop album, through and through. Love this kind of music, 4 stars, almost a 5
So so pretty
Cosy, and classy
Gillar denna mkt från förr, kommer ihåg när den kom
Norah Jones is always phenomenal. I should play her in my lineup more.
No private session used for Spotify. I have never sat down and listened to this album, I just knew several of the songs from it. The whole album is a buttery voiced delight. Enjoy in a jazz club, on a rainy night, pair it was a glass of merlot and someone you love.
I've heard people call this album boring, I've heard it called muzak, I've heard it called elevator music. I honestly think it's just a really solid old school pop album full of excellent musicians and good, well-performed songs by an excellent singer.
Oh man, It's Norah Jones from hit movie Ted. I want this to play while I sit at the window seat of a small cafe watching rain drops roll down the glass. Also I'm a woman in this scenario.
been relistening to getz/gilberto a lot recently (as we all should be tbh), which i think its fair to say is the absolute king of Background Music records...a whole different rubric of Ignorable As It Is Interesting then proposed by brian eno for ambient, a record that asks nothing of you but will reward you at all levels of listening. i think this record is another great example tbh...more folky loungey pop than vocal jazz, but still presenting rich and finely honed melodies and arrangements presented with very little Insistence...works as pleasant wallpaper, but there Is something musically deeper on the other side should you have the faith to make the leap. not everyone will make the leap, including im sure plenty of people who enjoy it even, but i rly enjoyed the musicianship, tunes, and especially the singing, and think all of it has some cool stuff to get stuck into. the title track especially is a marvel!
A good album, I liked Don't Know Why and I've Got To See You Again.
Okayyy, she got a beautiful voice, music is great but after listening whole album at once i was tired - again music is a little bit monotonic
Very cozy, awesome producing and great album all around!
Cool soft country
If you’re in the mood for sweet and mellow this is a great album.
Love Norah Jones
Yes its repetitive, yes its totally smooth without any edges, roughness or anything noteworthy. But technically its well made, and if you just want something to calm you down, this does the trick quite nicely. 3,5/5
Very pleasant. The definition of a "3.5" for me, in that there's nothing offensive, there's a few standouts (Shoot The Moon, Nightingale), but this isn't groundbreaking, doesn't resonate heavily in me. Pretty remarkable that an album half vocal jazz and half singer-songwriter folk sold like a trillion copies in the early 2000's when so much radio was abysmal.
Enjoyed this album
Album No. 0113 on my list. This is an album I had only ever heard of but never listened to. Which is somewhat surprising, because it has been sold a gazillion times. Anyway, I kinda get why that is. This is really smallest common denominator music. It’s the grilled cheese sandwich of music. This sounds like an insult, but it’s really not. I mean - who doesn’t like a grilled cheese? The biggest strength of this album is likely Norah Jones’ voice. So smooth! The music may be a bit boring and the lyrics a little mono thematic, but that doesn’t make the songs bad. I’ll add “Don’t Know Why”, “Come Away With Me”, and “Lonestar” to my playlist. Could have picked any other. No bad songs on this, but also nothing outstanding as well. 4/5 stars.
Feeling very middle aged based on how many of these tracks I added to my faves playlist.
This album feels like a slow Sunday morning with your lover or the end credits of a heartwarming 2000s movie Mellow mix classic
Just a smooth, calm album that does what it should do. Great opening track.
This was almost a five for me. I'd probably rate it 4.5 if the platform allowed. Her voice is resonant, soulful, and beautiful. Her performances nuanced and powerful. The the songs are kinda boring at times.
I mean it’s a classic, but — at the risk of being in a youthful mood — also dull as beans. Come snooze with me.
Beautiful album! Resonates with me so much right now in my current situation. Love it, will definitely listen to this more in the autumn season.
Didn't realize Norah Jones was on this list. Solid listen
Your mom’s favorite album! But really there’s nothing not to like here. Maybe you’re too cool for Norah Jones, but I wouldn’t turn it off. Very pleasant Christmas Eve day, Nancy Meyers listening experience.
It's gotta be a couple of decades since I listened to that album. It's aged quite well.
I love her voice and these songs
Awesome voice
9/10. A classic of the sad lady genre.
Ha ha, I felt so eclectic, so open-minded when I started listening to this album non-stop in 2002. It was very different from the music I had been listening to since basically childhood. It was a transitional time in my life in a lot of ways and I was broadening my horizons musically too. Norah is brilliant and this album is amazing.
Interesting
Zitten een paar goeie bangers tussen, sommige geven mij castlefest vibes.
Good vibes me like very kalm very nice good voice good instrument
Thought this was boring, easy listening background music at first, but after a few listens I could only have it in the forefront of my mind. Faves: Don't Know Why, Cold Cold Heart, One Flight Down
i’ve heard this one already!! really great album i love the keys favs: come away with me, i’ve got to see you again, painter song
Norah Jones voice is just incredible, beautiful, enticing, all the good adjectives. This album is one more Don’t Know Why quality song away from 5 stars. Even so, it works so well as a gorgeous mellow album. 4.5 if we had it.
A perfectly appropriate cold weather album, feels very cozy adhering to the stereotypical "coffee house" music with warm vocals and acoustic instrumentals. I made myself a cup of tea to accompany the album. I think my mom had this on CD at some point in my life so I tend to associate the album with "mom pop." Don't Know Why and Come Away With Me are great singles. The album as a whole becomes monotonous throughout though. Rounding up from 3.5 to 4 because I personally enjoyed the slow-paced wistful atmosphere the album creates.
Somewhere in my dad's months-long playlist was this Norah Jones' album, so most of the songs sound familiar. That being said, to be included in my dad's playlist actually biases me against it more than it biases me for out of some nostalgia, otherwise I'd be listening to showtunes before this and not modern ranchera. That being said, I really enjoyed this - relaxing and soft. It won't be played often since it has no edge whatsoever, but it's nice for a certain situation. 3.5 rounded ... up for jazz sake.
Loved it. It's very simple calm stuff. But it did great for me. A little monotonal, but easily earned 4.5 stars. Will round down this time though.
This is #day495 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I remember occasionally listening to Norah Jones at some point in my life. Those must have been my jazz-exploration days or whatever. While this record has little to do with jazz, leaning toward a folky, country-tinged sound, there are still dashes of jazz sprinkled in. I don't mind this music years later. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day496.
Come Away With Me is an audiophile classic for a reason. It is perfectly composed, arranged, recorded, and mastered. It is gentle and warm, easy to listen to, and it sounds beautiful. It was a huge hit when it came out and has since become a legendary recording. It seems like Jones and her team did everything they could to remove every edge from this record, and they were successful in that regard both for better and for worse. It is about as unoffensive as music can get. Every song is a lullaby. But this album is not just treacle; the musicality of Come Away With Me is fantastic as well. There is a lot here for both casual and obsessive music fans to enjoy. When listening to it, I find myself often closing my eyes and taking in the smoothness of it all. However, the lack of challenge means this record soothes me but doesn't move me. Except for "I've Got to See You Again," I have to force myself to listen closely because nothing here demands my attention. This album was wonderfully executed, but it could never be one of my favorites. Four stars.
The backlash around this album says more about the early-2000s cultural moment than it does about the music itself. Yes, it became shorthand for Starbucks culture and tasteful background listening, but that framing misses how genuinely enjoyable the record is. Taken on its own terms, Come Away With Me is warm, melodic, and beautifully put together. There’s an undeniable time-machine effect here. It immediately recalls the early 2000s, but it also avoids feeling dated in the way many albums from that era do. The songs are simple, but not careless. The arrangements are restrained, but thoughtful. Norah Jones’s voice is intimate without being precious, and the record understands exactly what kind of mood it wants to create. Is it safe? Probably. But there’s a difference between being calculated and being confident in restraint. Blue Note may have positioned her perfectly for this debut, but that doesn’t diminish the quiet beauty of what’s here. Not every album needs to challenge the listener to earn its place. Sometimes it’s enough to sound this good and mean it. A strong four stars. Comfortable, yes—but also sincere, well-crafted, and easy to return to.
Its ok
I know it's a poster child for "critics loved it, now no one cares", but it doesn't matter, I love its softness, I love Norah's voice, I love not having to think about what's cool and what's not
fall cozy cafe vibes i love
So good, super nostaglic
a gem
This was the album our son would calm down to as a toddler, and I haven't listened to it closely since then. Found a track on there (Nightingale) that I bumped up my song rating for on my itunes. Norah is the definition of a sultry silky voice.
Great record. Writing great music and arranging it with such elegance and grace is not a simple feat. The first half of the album is almost impeccable, then it loses something for me. Amazing cover selection as well. The singles are wonderful.
First and foremost, these are some of the most stunning vocals you will ever hear. The breathy tone, the smoky hiss, the rasp, the warmth. Genuinely beautiful. The album is a soft, mellow, jazz infused record. Brushed drums. Some acoustic moments. Some piano / double bass numbers. Easy easy listening. The tracks are for the most part quite minimalist and rightly rely heavily on the vocals, keeping them front and centre where they belong. A great listen for a quite, rainy morning. Favourite track - Dont Know Why. 8/10
Beautiful voice, greats hooks in Turn me on and Come away with me. Would relisten.
Really nice album. Enjoyed a lot of the songs on the album and was a nice chill listen while I was working. Very much enjoyed this one.
Was a really soothing listen. I don't think I would like this music everyday, very dependent on my mood. But a fun album overall.
really nice
Takes me back to seeing CDs at an overpriced coffee shop. Not an album I’d typically listen to. Beautiful silky voice. Opening track is damn good.
Great, good easy listening album
Great voice and style.

It is very relaxing but becomes a little repetitious as the album runs on. Come Away with Me the song elevates this album to a 4.
Always known Norah Jones has a beautiful voice. I did not know how much I'd enjoy all her songs. This album was such a treat to listen to. Starts off strong, with the great Don't Know Why. Cold Cold Heart has beautiful piano music. Come Away With Me and Shoot The Moon have some delightful guitar work. Turn Me On was really fun. I've Got To See You Again was smooth and a joy to hear, and the violin part was really nice. A good album with some nice easy listening songs. Loved it. Going into it, I was sure Don't Know Why was going to be my pick for best song. It's the only one I knew beforehand, and it's an amazing song. But then I heard I've Got To See You Again, and it blew me away. The back end of the album does start to drag a little, there's only so much easy listening I can hear in a row before it starts to wear thin. But overall it was very enjoyable. Best song: I've Got To See You Again
While I think “Don’t know why” is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, the rest of the album fails to capture that same magic for me. It’s a good album, just downhill after the first song.
Smooth and warm, jazzy singer songwriter music. Good for a rainy evening.
This album is like a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa on a cold, snowy evening. It wraps you up, slows your heartbeat, and soothes your mind into a peaceful state. I’ll die on the hill that Norah Jones is an unbelievable vocalist. I was fortunate enough to sit 4th row at one of her shows and I’ve never in my life seen someone emit the sultry sounds she is capable of producing with such ease. She barely opens her mouth and this powerful, yet controlled sound envelopes the room. The background music is extremely soulful powered by the piano and upright bass. This isn’t quite a 5 for me, but damn it’s close.
My wife played this a lot when it came out, so did everyone, it was massive, I found it bland, never paid attention after three tracks or so. Paying attention now, surprised to find I'm re-eavaluating, every song sounds perfect, just lovely. Still, too many of them in exactly the same vibe to pay attention to in one sitting, but maybe 3 or 4 at a time?
I’m fairly certain I’ve never intentionally listened to Norah Jones. I’m sure it’s been force fed to me in a coffee shop or something before. However, I probably didn’t really notice it since it’s meant to be more of a background music in those settings either way. I’ve heard people reference her as an artist many times. So I was familiar with her name. I found this album pleasant to listen too. She’s got a nice voice and makes for a great coffee shop vibe or a chill time.
I haven't listened to mich Norah Jones in the past. I really liked this album. I thought her voice is amazing and the instrumentation is simply and clean
Norah Jones sweeps in, grabs your hand, and says "Come away with me!" She tugs as she pulls you through a curtain onto a stage, you're blinded by the bright lights. You look to your left, Norah is sitting at the piano singing. On your right, a huge crowd in an underground speak easy, each table with a small candle lit. She then proceeds to sing this entire album. That's how I imagine this album was made. 7.5/10 very pleasant, very easy listening.
A lovely album from an artist with the most beautiful voice.
Solid 4, I can't listen to her voice all day but I appreciate a lot of the musical tendencies
everytime she sang I thought it was going to switch to christmas music
Really enjoyed listening to this. Nice, mellow, well-written songs.
Beautiful voice, excellent musicianship, good songs. It all became a bit sluggish for me though around the half way point. There’s nothing not to like here, just that it isn’t something that I’d revisit very often. Objectively it’s clearly a 5, but subjectively it’s a 4.
Bien
It’s a relaxing, we made album. It can get a little dull after awhile, but this isn’t going for a rock and roll vibe.
Imagine hating on Norah jones. Couldn’t be me.
Such a beautiful album.
I’ve been crushing on Norah Jones since the release of this album. Her whispery voice puts me ease. An accomplished musician in her own right, this album is stacked with session players that make her songs shine and run the gamut from jazz to Americana. This album is easy and accessible to all. Great listen
Nice voice, chill songs.
Love her voice and songs. Just a nice way to relax
Chill music and even though she gets away with it, I blame her for the husky, breathy singing voice becoming so popular among singer-songwriters.
Sehr schönes und gemütliches Album.
Schön abwechslungsreich ohne auszubrechen oder mit dem Stil zu brechen.
Don’t know why is probably top 100 song ever written. Rest of it is enjoyable, palatable soft jazz alternative. Really liked shoot the moon too. It gets a little samey but I will definitely add this to the list of albums I can listen to with my wife in the car that won’t anger her.
I've listened to it a bunch of times in the past. Great for when you light a candle in the apartment
Really like this album and see a ton of use cases for some of the tracks. The laid back jazzy type backing tracks and buttery vocals add a ton. 7/10
my mom listened to this all the time when i was a kid, i know at least 60% of this entire album like the back of my hand Don't Know Why - 5/5 Seven Years - 5/5 Cold Cold Heart - 4/5 Feelin' the Same Way - 4/5 Come Away With Me - 5/5 Shoot the Moon - 4/5 Turn Me On - 5/5 Lonestar - 5/5 I've Got to See You Again - 4/5 Painter Song - 3/5 One Flight Down - 4/5 Nightingale - 4/5 The Long Day Is Over - 3/5 The Nearness of You - 3/5 Average score: 4.1/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s a classic. She’s so smooth. Nice with your morning coffee.
did not age that well
Ooh, now we're talking. I have to admit i'd never heard of her, but that was very relaxing!
Her songs feel like a breeze of fresh air, loved the lyrics and the songs feel like they're crafted carefully. Loved it.
Really chill and zen and the production ruled. This is like the most easy listening music ever i gotta come back to it
Really nice! Some great great songs on here. Easy listening at its most chill and relaxing.
*Good soulful sound to her voice *Definitely sounds like a more contemporary Blue Note album *Too many slower/mid tempo songs to make a full 5, but a great album
Chill, pretty, sad, enjoyable. I'd buy this record.
Okay, so Norah Jones isn't just radio fodder she's a genuine artist. This is a stunning record, her voice is very special and the band is beautiful.
Great
Great album
I remember hearing this album a lot when it came out. I think every woman that I knew was into it. It’s a really good musical choice for mixed company. The songwriting is great. Her vocals are magically soothing and her band is tight. I would recommend this album to anyone who told me that they were into singer songwriters. I would give it more stars if it had more hot licks and bass solos. Also, she seems like a lovely person.
Despite my trauma response, I can’t honestly say this is a bad album. It’s lightweight but cool in its own way.
Belongs in the Hall of Very Good. 4.5 stars
Me sinto nas novelas de Manuel Carlos ouvindo Nirah Jones
i'm not sure if i liked this enough to genuinely give it a 4/5, but it made me so powerfully nostalgic for a simpler time when CDs were sold at starbucks that i have to hand it to her.
This isn't the music I'd normally reach for, but it's objectively good. Norah has a beautiful and expressive voice, the band is clearly talented, and the jazz/pop arrangements elevate this above standard singer-songwriter fare. my biggest gripe is that everything sounds the same, but it's a pleasant sound, so i don't mind too much. favorites: don't know why, seven years, come away with me, lonestar, the nearness of you
Really surprised by how good this album actually is. I’d only heard “Don’t Know Why” and had kind of written the whole album off as just kind of breathy/sappy pseudo jazz. Boy, was I wrong. Excellent songs, great vocals, understated production. Listening to the whole album was a pleasure.
Pop-jazz of it's time, but held my attention with some gorgeous lyrics
Soothing like a warm hug after a long day :)
This album finds power in simplicity. It's mostly just Norah over some simple, piano-heavy arrangements, but it works very well. The piano playing is so calming and beautiful and she is a very good singer. Kind of reminds me of Adele, but Adele is more of a powerful singer with strong presence whereas Norah is more gentle. I've got to see you Again is giving Amy Winehouse vibes. Painter Song feels like being in a cafe in Paris with some random dude playing jazz on the street. Good vibes. And Shoot the Moon is super underrated and a personal favorite. This is the ultimate comfort album to me.
I appreciate the piano, her voice and the comfort that this combination brings.
Very pleasant
A real surprise for me. I thought this record would bore me but I've replayed it a few times. It's just beautiful and immediately relaxes every part of your soul. Favourite track: Shoot The Moon
solid
Added straight to the “listen again” list. Very solid
- cozy autumn - parisian vibe - elegant - beautiful raspy voice simply produced, but very coherent - wasn‘t that abwechslungsreich
It took me years to get into this album. She's got this smooth, smokey, sultry voice that works great on its own, but the production includes a well played and minimally applied set of strings. Percussion is applied like a light seasoning. We're here for her voice, to hear the subtle emotional differences that build on the work of her pen. It's so delicate, it takes a genuine listen to feel it. That can take time, and right off the bat I remember how this might feel bland. It feels long but it works well in the background. Not personally ecstatic about the idea of an extended deluxe version right now. But it's a really good vocal appreciation project in its original tracklist. 3.5/5
She voice is just smooth. I remember when this came out and my dad of all people was enamored with it. Seems in his younger days he hung out in jazz clubs and lounges. Said her voice reminded him of those times in those clubs. It is a great relaxing album. I started to listen in the car but realized it had to wait. When I got home and after dinner I put on my headphones and listened. Perfect for an evening to chill with.
In an era when female pop stars were starting to become more about the image and marketability, there were concerns that raw talent was beginning to take a back seat. Thankfully, artists such as Norah Jones and Alicia Keys proved that the authenticity and uniqueness of female singers would not get lost in the turn of the millennium. Some may criticize Norah Jones for being a "nepo baby" [being the daughter of famed Indian composer Ravi Shankar], but she was estranged from her father at the time she entered the public consciousness with her debut album, 2002's 'Come Away With Me'. It's not her connections that drove this album's success, it was her voice. Jones' relaxed yet sincere voice makes this album such a serene blend of jazz, folk, country and blues. The big hits on this album, 'Don't Know Why', 'Come Away From Me' and 'Turn Me On', are the obvious highlights here, as they perfectly exemplify why Jones deservedly achieved critical acclaim in the early 00s: rich vocals soaring across jazzy slow jams. It's very much a New York sound, rooted in the city's strong jazz atmosphere. Jones is one of those rare artists who found their sound almost immediately, and while the slow-jazz ballads aren't really my thing, I can appreciate the beauty and delicate nature of her voice. She also did an album of folk covers with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong a decade after her debut, so that's pretty cool too! 4/5
I’ve heard this album plenty of times. I’ve never actually listened to it though. The album would be a shoe-in for the Sunday sessions at the mythical café Kelvinos if, firstly, it wasn’t such a clichéd choice, and secondly, if said mythical establishment didn’t pride itself on its exceptional taste and broader base of musical knowledge. It’s very, very listenable. It’s great at what it is, and I can understand why it was such a popular choice at other, less well curated, mythical purveyors of caffeinated beverages. Like a poorly described red wine with too much residual sugar content and oak which delivers a degree of popular appeal I’m sure plenty of people describe it as “smooth”.
Nora Jones makes jazz singing fresh, modern, and accessible. This is not the most amazing jazz performance of all time (the range is a bit limited), but few jazz singers of make their audience so hcomfortable. Her voice is a warm & fluffy blanket on a rainy day — listening is a joy. A 4.
It's been years since I've listened to this, and I was a little worried it would feel like an album that had served its purpose and was more a document than an experience. Well, it does feel of its time in places, but in others, Jones's thoughtful piano playing and probing voice still pulled me out of myself.
Aw hell, I just love this album. I don’t know if it belongs on this list but I’m not smart enough to know these things. I just remember when this album came out and NPR wags were all like, hey, it’s Ravi Shankar’s daughter, etc. This album hits me in my Eva Cassidy and Patsy Cline sweet spots.
My wife and I listened to this album a lot when we were first dating (at her behest.) It has a special place in my heart. Update: Been listening to this more lately and there are some choices Norah Makes with her vocal delivery that I find really stunning.
I don't really want to like this. It is the favourite album of my old Catholic school's head teacher. I feel like that should sum it up... It's very inoffensive... However... It's just really good isn't it. Really well played and catchy and the sounds are lovely. Damnit.
Almost feels like a Christmas album
Very relaxing 😌
It's a classic, and I really enjoy the production. The instrumentation is precise, making it a fantastic experience to listen to on headphones. At times, it's sweet and a bit corny, but that's part of its charm. Norah Jones' voice is lovely and calm; it helps me relax.
Norah Jones has a beautiful voice. this album reminds me of our family vacation in Oceanside. We rented someone's condo and they had this album, and I played it over and over. (This was way before Air bnb) Nostolgia aside, a lot of the songs sound the same and I found myself not really paying attention at some points.
This was a nice listen. Very easy listening. I’ve seen this record cover a million times. When I worked at a music store, there was a huge poster of this record on the wall. I never gave it a shot as it didn’t fit my wheelhouse of music at the time. It doesn’t really at this moment in time either but given this albums generator, what a better excuse to try new things? Despite the breathy vocals that kind of get tiresome, Norah Jones has a lovely jazzy voice. I’d listen to this again, more so as background music though. That’s not necessarily a bad thing either.
fire
A very sweet, soulful album filled with acoustic and piano melodies and wonderful vocals. Not the most energetic album, but wonderful to listen to while enjoying a coffee, sitting under a blanket, watching the rain.
It's aged quite well.
Fantastic
Amazing album. Every song is a banger! Perfect listen for moody days.
i dont think ive listened to anything this smooth since ever. even though this is mostly a cover album, these songs sounded like originals and at the same time a respectful reflection of the artists who spent time writing them.
Relaxing.
Refreshing change
Like time travelling back to the early noughties. Loved.
Riktigt bra grejer! Soft och småjazzigt. Väl ackompanjerat med stämningsfull sång. Skön groove i Hank Williamscovern Cold Cold Heart.
Sweet and soulful, if not a bit boring.
нормалек, претензий нет, слушать приятно.
Random thoughts: * I remember when this album came out and we all went crazy for this. As chill and jazzy as crazy can be considering the mood of this music. * This was like getting out an old cozy blanket. This just felt nice and amazing listening to these tunes again. * I also got to see Norah Jones live at the Beacon theatre during the time of this album's height. It was as chill and cool as you can imagine. * Norah has had moments since then but nothing really captured our attention like this first fresh album which holds up surprisingly well. * Top tracks here: "Don't Know Why", "Feelin The Same Way", "Come Away With Me", and "Turn Me On". * Solid listen that I need to remember when I need a chill listen for my mood.
Great album and just plain easy to listen to. Had no idea she was Ravi Shankar's kiddo?!
Magic.
Great album. I don’t know why I never listened to this before.
Breezy beautiful voice and music. Easy listening
Classic.
Just want to sit by the couch with a warm fire on and settle into a good book.
Sweet, breathy jazz pop.
Everyone always asks me if I named my kid after her. I didn’t. 🤪 But she’s got an amazing voice.
Before this, I could have sworn I e never listened to Norah Jones before. Some how I know that first song. I’m not mad about it. She’s got that sultry soul voice. Dang, I really am in my 30s.
3.5
4.5
4/5. There is a clear sense of inspiration Norah gets when singing these songs of jazz and pop, and she does a good job but it does feel at times more like a tribute album rather than a solo album. Even the original songs feel written by someone else, and it's not due to a lack of experience or age, but rather the feeling is not fully there. Reading the liner notes confirms my suspicions unfortunately, similar to Taylor Swift. I did still enjoy the album as a whole but I can't say it's perfect, as not all songs reach that level of passion needed for these lyrics. Granted, her songs she writes do stand out and her piano playing does bring out that passion when needed. I think this feels like an album that if waited a year, would have some covers but would mostly be self-written songs and it would be awesome. I'm giving it a 4/5 due to her singing alone but could definitely be better. Best Song: Come Away with Me, Nightingale, The Long Day Is Over
Listened to this while playing Voidfall. I won! I sat here listening to this album, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. This album is kind of great. Then I realized - I'm sitting here, playing a solo board game, listening to and enjoying Norah Jones - this is what being in your 40s is like.
Znamy, lubimy, ale wszystko w jednym tonie. 4/5
Loved it! So calm and cozy.
Lovely contemporary adult album. Ideal for rainy days with a warm mug of chamomile tea. Norah’s voice is as smooth as they come and her piano melodies are comforting. Classic coffeshopcore.
4 stars
Such a lovely album, soft jazz vibes with her incredible vocals make this album special. Great pick for the list.
Ainda não ouvi todo mas bop 100% pq Norah Jones
I used to call this boring. Now I just call it amazing chill.
Really smooth jazzy voice, perfect coffee shop vibes.
Dinnertime classic.
Sooooooo smooooooth
Some albums have a lock on a particular place / time. This one will always remind me of rainy mornings at the Village. It could not be further from the music I normally gravitate to, but it will always have a soft spot in my heart because of those memories.
jako lijepa album koji pokazuje svoju snagu ako ga pustiš točno u određeno vrijeme
Make fun all you want of the Dark Side of the Moon of CDs sold at Starbucks, but this is some smooth-ass shit and worthy of its accolades. Reminds me of a kinder, gentler nation.
Lots of conventional songs propped up by her singing. A few gems.
Despite being so popular, I had never given this album a real listen. The musicianship is obviously stellar. I’m excited to listen to her last 20+ years.
Pop-blues tranquil i emotiu. Té una veu preciosa. Molt bon disc
Really enjoyed this easy listening album.
Very easy and pretty listening. It had some variety on it that I enjoyed -- the flamenco-inspired "I've Got To See You Again", the more traditional jazz, bass-heavy "Cold Cold Heart", and country influenced "Lonestar" -- but by the end I felt like I wasn't really distinguishing between the songs so much. But I think this album is the kind of thing I'd put on in full to create a certain atmosphere and it certainly delivers on that front. I would love to learn a lot of these on piano though; I'm sure that would change my opinion on the distinctiveness of each track to see it broken down in that way. Fav tracks: Don't Know Why, Cold Cold Heart, I've Got To See You Again, Come Away With Me
Ne Stimme die wie warme Butter in die Ohren läuft. Sehr smooth und chillig
Das Album fühlt sich an wie eine kuschelige Decke im Wohnzimmer an einem regnerischen Herbsttag.
Kinda surprised how jazzy this turned out to be
Enjoyed listening to this album! Will definitely be looking to add to the collection.
This album is weighted so heavily to “Don’t Know Why” that one forgets the rest of the album is great too.
I thought I was gonna hear a Christian album. 8/10
What a soothing voice. Definitely added some time to my commute with how calm she made me. Hadn’t really heard her beyond the major hits. Liked the variety of sound. Energy was lower for most of it but rose in one song and it stood out. Could definitely see putting this on again in the right context.
Very nice
Bluesy good vocals
Yeah, this album isn't anything groundbreaking or super interesting but damn is it smooth and peaceful. It's such a relaxing album for me, I really enjoyed it. Not quite a 5 but it flows really well and I really enjoy the vocals. I think this thing gets more hate than it deserves, even if it is a bit basic. Standouts: Don't Know Why, Come Away With Me, Turn Me On, The Nearness of You Rating: 4.25/5
Vocals so smooth, soulful music, great listen.
This album is a very specific time in college- I love her voice. I just want to open a speakeasy/jazz club now.
Brought me many memories and made me sad.
Relajante, muy relajante, un alto en el camino antes de tomar desiciones.
Always have liked this album.. Bought CD for my mom back in the day..
A very soft start to a morning, but you have to be in the right mood for it
Classic. Makes me think of kaitlyn
I have liked this album for a long time. It’s one I never really think about, but everytime it comes up it’s always a great listen.
3.5/5
Quite enjoyed this. Very easy listening and mellow.
Truly peak coffee shop era. As I listened, I realized my favorite songs of hers are actually on her next album, Feels Like Home. All in all, a delightful winter album that had the misfortune of showing up on the solstice in a heatwave.
It's nice, well written and beautifully sung. which is more than allot of albums on this list. i Remember this album on commercials and remember the song "Come away with me". is this an album you need to hear, nah. but this list contains a huge amount of albums that you don't need to hear, so i'd rather hear this than the 30th elvis costello album that only die hard fans heard or an unknown synth pop or hardcore punk album. Considering all those types of albums this one is probably in the top 500 of this list which makes me Believe that there isn't 1001 albums worth hearing before you die
Loved it back in the day and loved it today
Best Song: Don't Know Why Norah Jones has a great voice. However, this type of music has a very limited relistening quality to it. Unless, of course, you run a speakeasy in 1930.
Undeniably beautiful and moving. I wanted to hate, but I left enchanted.
This is one of these "Fuck you, I liked it." albums. I was in a damn good mood.
Really nice
Type shi i would imagine they play in fancy bars of 100 floor buildings in nyc Type shi the main character in a romance movie busts out on a piano after getting his heart broke
3.5/5 Objectively good. Good for slow mornings, rainy days, coffee shops, and staring longingly out of a window
Lovely voice and the go to for mid 2000s dinner parties.
Glad to listen to this again. It’s been awhile since going in my classics playlist
Amazing! So lovely and tender. Beautiful voice and unpretentious songs
I think it's really great that many of the people who review this album give it rather poor reviews. I like the album. I like Norah Jones's voice. This isn't elevator music. (In any case, no one wants to listen to "Megadeth" or "Slipknot" in an elevator in an emergency.) That makes it very clear to me again that I don't have to follow average taste. And it makes it abundantly clear to me that I don't have to worry about my reviews of over hyped albums being so bad. I don't give a shit. But back to Norah Jones: She has an incredible voice, deep and ingratiating. This voice clearly dominates the album, and that's a good thing. "Come Away With Me" is great, a great song and a good album. "Lonestar," however, irritated me a bit. It has all the ingredients for country, and that's what it sounds like, which is absolutely unnecessary. Good album, "Lonestar," get rid of that.
So barnes and noble
Beautiful I will let this play on the records when I am old
Even and lowkey “lounge” music with diverse influences, including jazz, blues, country, and traditional pop. A really solid album that invites repeat listens. Best song: The Nearness of You
Is it a bit basic? Yeah, but maybe I'm a bit basic too.
Perfect music for like a dinner party or a date night. She has a lovely voice and the music is chill.
Beautiful but a little samey
Love this album! Just beautiful.
I've got to see you again
good but chill
I wasn’t familiar with this but it is a smooth and mellow listen. Best in class for the genre it is, great vocals and arrangements.
Respect to Norah for achieving peak coffee shop vibes. Good luck listening to this and not thinking about what flavored latte you want. Some great moments here but really drags on given the overall pace of these songs. Probably between a 3 and 4 for me, will give it the extra half point for being on the Mt Rushmore of artists like this.
Sleepy, yes...but also perfect for what it is. Amazing voice. Chill vibes. Great for a gloomy Monday. Or a hungover Sunday. 4/5
dobry
Great stuff, really mellow jazz without getting busy.
smooth music with a laid back vibe. norah jones has a gorgeous voice and it’s no wonder that this was such a huge debut album, eventually selling over 27 million copies worldwide. highlights: “don’t know why” “come away with me” “turn me on”
Takes me back to when this came out, listening to it with the wife. Perfect rainy day album.
voce molto bella. Canzoni rilassanti. Per ora non c'è nessuna canzone che mi abbia particolarmente colpito, però piacevole da ascoltare.
parabéns a nepo baby
So relaxing
So gentle. So wonderfully a mood.
Relaxing
This is very pretty, and it sounds great on my stereo system. A discovery of late, I didn't like it so much when it was released.
Unreal rainy day music
I could listen to this album all day. I love Norah’s voice and her music is very calming and beautiful to me. Her songs capture the raw and emotional feeling of falling and being in love with someone. I would definitely listen to this album again and recommend it to others!
sehr nice vibe so chli sad style. aber sehr soothing. would listen again. sochli joni mitchell style
Familiar favourite
One of the soundtracks of my childhood, spent many a Friday evening listening to this parental favorite. It's a bit too slow for my liking at times, and I felt there were some missed opportunities for harmonization. Hard to find many other faults though! Listened to: at 5MW. Favorite tracks: Seven Years, Shoot the Moon, Lonestar
soulsito bien fresco. mellow para estudiar.
I thought it was going to be less interesting, but I realized I feel this genre, and I like it, though songs like *Don’t Know Why* and the title track were far overused when this album came out. *Cold, Cold Heart* is one of my favourites now. The style is a bit like Hugh Laurie’s first album, and I like that too. Downside: from track 5, it starts getting a bit boring. Still, *I’ve Got to See You Again* is a masterpiece — and not just because of the violin.
Hellll yeah!! You know that’s right!! Already excited to hear the rest of the album (as in, the songs I haven’t heard yet), and to revisit some absolute gems that I’ve already loved for so long!! Let’s go! Let’s get into this!! :) So far—one One Flight Down now—I’d give it a solid 4 stars. I think it does what it set out to do very well.
Super relaxing
This is a very pretty sounding album. Every song is decent. I really liked a few songs. It's not particularly interesting to me tho, and definitely not groundbreaking. it's great for what it is. It has beautiful vocals and instrumentals.
Starke Sing/Songwriterin, easy anzuhören, gefällt.
