Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Equal parts fun and chill, very easy to listen to and likely I'll revisit it

I love this album like a Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan movie. It's pure schmaltz, with jazz musicians in the background as invisible and talented and as obviously there as Spielberg. It's an indulgent weepy raise-a-ghettoblaster-above-your-head indulgence that I am 100% there for. You are welcome to disagree because it doesn't meet your rebellious agro-punk credentials, it's not cool and not alternative, but I have a soft spot for this album so there.

Definitely not an album I would have normally listened to, but it was lovely. One of those albums you just sit around the house to

The Starbuck soundtrack

Starbuck's jokes aside, I really did dig this album. Norah's voice is just so damn silky smooth. Each track more relaxing and comforting than the last. Probably helped that I had a gentle snow fall happening outside while listening, but I stand by the rating

Liked this more than I expected! Was nice chill background music for a Sunday in the kitchen.

Nice record to start the year. Not totally my style, but I still enjoyed listening to it and can see myself giving it a spin in the future.

Listened Before? N Incredible voice. She (and this album) is a real gem. The mood and arrangements are well done, and there's not a bad song on this one. It's perfect for this cold, gloomy winter day too. Good stuff. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Don't Know Why, I've Got To See You Again

Don’t Know Why, Come Away with Me, and Turn Me On are all classics. Very accessible pop jazz. Really relaxing too. Liked this album since I was a kid

Nice, gentle, and elegant. The guitar solos were all very tasteful.

Sounds like a snowy night

im really liking the sound of this. has a chill from the old jazz tunes of the 50s and early 60s while showing a modern production with distinguished instruments and arrangements. feel like listening to it for a whole lot more, but for now its a 4 and i think it will remain like that.

69. An angel - melodic voice, die covers and originals. A staple and enjoyable when you want some nice mellow sounds. Worth the listen

Classic jazz sound, it was refreshing

I melt every time I hear her voice.

Sicko voice, what a cool lady

smooth

Great jazzy chill music with lovely vocals. Can start sunday morning with that, or have an evening reading a book or having a dinner.

There's nothing wrong with guilty pleasures. This'll do just fine.

Very pretty, but also pretty low energy.

I saw what the album was and thought oh this one might be a five and then I relistened and it is the BEST background music and i give her five stars in life for making piano bar music so popular because honestly that’s a feat. But it’s still not a five. But I like it a lot.

Norah Jones uses Come Away With Me to showcase her enticing voice. The folksy, jazz infused pop music melts into the background while her hints of raspiness invite the listener to snuggle up on a couch next to the fire. I feel comforted listening to this album.

Excellent. Need to be in the mood for softer tunes but very good

Quality vocalist

3.8/5 Best track: I've Got To See You Again

Chill but great

Masterful debut album from Norah Jones. Although I haven't cared much about her follow up albums, this one is definitely a ground-breaking project that continued opening doors - like Esperanza Spalding and Samara Joy - for music fans to fall in love with jazz music.

I thought she had a really beautiful voice

Idyllic. A lovely place to be…

I loved hearing the songs that made everyone love Norah Jones, like Don’t Know Why and Come Away With Me, but was bummed the in betweens of the album were kind of boring.

Kamot. Fein. Gfallt mir. 4.1

Great singer, not really my jam

Very nice back ground music. A true classic voice. Remind me if the old crooners

I have not heard the album, so I can rate only based on reviews, sorry

damnthat was way better than I expected.

Her voice is superb. I could listen to her sing all day. Come Away with Me and Don't Know Why were huge hits at the time. This album was always playing when it came out. The bluesy jazzy tone on these songs is just great. She's a great singer, great artist. This album still holds up.

What a voice - very much just have to stop what you're doing and listen. Very high 4 stars

It kinda reminds me of Starbucks in the 00s, but I like it anyway.

I vibed with this significantly more than I thought I would.

Who doesn't love some Norah Jones, right?!

I was torn between 4 and 5 stars on this album, but I’m gonna have to give it a 4 because the songs are all a little “samesy.” If it’s not broke, don’t fix it, and Norah Jones definitely isn’t broke — by any definition of the word.

she was young and wrote a good album, now a little repetitive

Beautiful booming vocals paired with a soft backdrop of piano, acoustic guitar, and light drums. It is warm, soothing, and uplifting. This is not the type of music I normally go for but I couldn't help but find myself entranced. I was working out while listening and still really enjoyed this album (it is by no means workout music).

This grew on me and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Very peaceful and relaxing album. I don't normally like jazz but this is a vibe, subtle and chilled. Great voice.

very relaxing sound

finally a change in genres Don't Know Why - it's like jazz with a country twang. i like it. (4/5 i don't wanna get my hopes too high) Seven Years - i can totally see why she's grouped up with Jack Johnson. Very easy jazzy sound. it's pleasant :) (5/5) Cold Cold Heart - jazz in Bikini Bottom. (5/5) Feelin' The Same Way - we're back to the country sound. the kind of thing i remember hearing when i was a kid. (5/5 it's giving Oren Lavie vibes) Come Away With Me - this is what i imagine what falling in love in the rain in like New York during a Hallmark film sounds like (3/5) Shoot the Moon - don't do that >:( (1/5) Turn Me On - i don't know what it is but powerful femme vocals like that are great every time (4/5) Lonestar - the country side of this is really growing on me. (3/5 i'm getting bored of this album. this is not my pace of music) I've Got To See You Again - this is the James Bond seductress from our gay cowboy story! (5/5 drama!) Painter Song - "If you want to destroy my painter/Hold the thread as I walk away." (1/5 got weezer'd) One Flight Down - is this what they play on Delilah? (4/5 "Easy Jazz hits to wind down your Thursday evening.") Nightingale - this was a very pleasant listen (4/5) The Long Day Is Over - this feels a little bit more church music to me. (3/5) The Nearness of You - a fitting outro. (3/5) i have to be fair and give it a 4/5 because the talent is there, i just can't get behind slow country/jazz sound for very long unless i'm trying to go to sleep. it objectively is good, just not for me.

Not always in the mood for such chill vibes, but it's a good album!

Couple songs icon, rest not my thing

Solid album. Have listened to it many times. Great for a cozy and peaceful afternoon, reading something with a cup of tea.

This is a solid and enjoyable album. I enjoyed every minute.

It's been years since I listened to this album, and I—ahem—don't know why. It was a great album then, and it is a great album now! Smooth and relaxing, Norah's breathy, soulful vocals round this out to an all-around superb listening experience. Obviously Don't Know Why is a stand out track since it is basically her signature, breakout song, but after this listening, I am really digging a number I had no memory of: I've Got to See You Again. It starts with a bluesey piano and sorrowful fiddle, priming your brain as such, but that bass line is too... upbeat. Something doesn't seem quite right. Then a few moments later as she moves into the chorus, we hear the first key change, the bass drops, there's a little flourish on the ivories, and it all makes sense: this song is a tango! It's a beautiful, delicately balanced dichotomy between the sadness of the unobtainable and the erotic of the possibile.

It's hard to beat this in terms of chill background music to bring my stress level down. This wasn't mind-blowing, but it was consistently good and the vibe was enough for me to bookmark Norah Jones for the next time I want music to chill me the F out. I didn't realize until today that she's continued to make music for the past 20 years; hopefully the later stuff is good.

Lovely voice, pleasant listening.

Timelessly beautiful. It as nice to visit with an old favorite and I hope we aren't strangers in the future. However, it is not a go to genre for me.

very mellow but could get boring if i wasnt on the right mood! It was good no bad song but also nothing that had me shooked.

I really don't know what to say about this album. Musically, there's not much here. However, the album isn't trying to do anything innovative musically, it's trying to feature her voice. That it does well. Her voice is ethereal on this album. The music compliments perfectly and gives it a timeless quality. I rarely give good ratings to albums just for being beautiful, but it would be dishonest to give this album a mediocre rating simply because it wasn't pushing the boundaries. I really enjoy listening to her 4/5

Great voice matches the music.

Easy listening. Lovely voice.

This is the music of long drives on a spring or early fall day. Top or windows down, wind blowing through your hair. The sky is blue, and the sun is shining bright. Or maybe sitting on a porch watching people go by. Or background music as you sip wine and hold deep conversation with a lover or partner while curled up on a couch together. Just carefree.

Though a bit predictable at times, this album is perfectly captures an array of styles and emotions under Norah's wonderful voice. It's excellently inoffensive. A creative blend of genres that will certainly weather the test of time.

Very good. A few radio recognizable songs and a bunch of other good ones. Enjoyed it

Beautiful jazzy masterpiece. Good for that type of mood, heavily weighted towards the front end of album but they are all good. Best would be Seven Years and Painter Song.

Can totally see why she blew up. Get very Continuum vibes actually (please don’t kill me), very etherial and easy-peasy flow. 4 stars because it’s not my cup of tea but I’ll drink it most days of the week.

This is not a Jazz album in any way shape or form. People seem to be tricked by Jones’ voice and the inclusion of The Nearness of You, but Jones could have released an entire album of standards in this style, and it still wouldn’t be Jazz. Come Away With Me is Country through and through, from the pedal steels to the corny lyrics to the obligatory Hank Williams cover. All this is to say, if we judge Come Away With Me as Jazz, then it doesn’t work. It ain’t got that swing, and it doesn’t quite have the same emotional range as the great late night heartbreak records that Jazz has. It’s too refined, too respectable. The thing about good Jazz is that even the slow stiff has grit. If we judge it as Singer-Songwriter Folk-Country album though it is infinitely better. The respectability makes more sense, as does the slide guitar. This is a very good piece of music, well written, well arranged, well played. Norah Jones has one of the great voices of the early 20th century. As a piece of music, this is fantastic. I really am just continually surprised that this seems to be what people regard as Jazz. Dislike it all you want, but dislike it as Country

Cannot deny this record. A debut fitting for the Artist. There is reassurance in this record knowing what wonderful creations she will make in the very near future post 2002. Peter Malik, Little Willies, and all of the other collaborations she will offer for our listening pleasure. True Talent!

Jazzy but accessible. 4.2

Favorite Tracks: Don't Know Why, Feelin' The Same Way, Come Away With Me, Turn Me On, Lonestar, Painter Song, The Nearness Of You

So rich and human. What a voice too. Fantastic

Don't Know Why- 4.4/5 Seven Years- 3.5/5 Cold Cold Heart- 4/5 Feelin' the Same Way- 4.2/5 Come Away With Me- 5/5 Shoot the Moon- 4.6/5 Turn Me On- 5/5 Lonestar- 3.5/5 I've Got to See You Again- 4.1/5 Painter Song- 3.6/5 One Flight Down- 3.5/5 Nightingale- 3.2/5 The Long Day Is Over- 3.5/5 The Nearness of You- 4.6/5 Total- 4.1/5

Very pleasant singing and acoustic guitar with a piano. I really wish I was listening to this album while just chilling in a hammock or chair out by the water. Not my normal type of music I would go to but I really enjoyed this album.

Beautiful voice, good solid album, distinct songs that aren’t all over the place.

I liked this now!

Excellent. Great chill album, iconic.

I love this album. Norah has a great voice and I really enjoy listening to this recording.

It’s a great rainy day listen.

Yeah, she's the real deal. Certainly not an album for every occasion, but then again, what is? On this rainy Monday morning, this landed. She's got a beautiful voice, the arrangements were spot-on. Somewhere between jazz and ... what? Singer/songwriter? I'm not sure I've got that sussed, but that's hardly important. It's good stuff.

I appreciated and welcomed this vibe on a rainy Sunday. She's a real musician and I love when someone can command such feeling with soft gentleness.

Very nice

A vibe if an album, equally great for a morning with coffee or a light night. Excellent musicianship and production.

I've listened to Come Away With Me prior to this recommendation at least a couple of times, but it has been while. I checked out the album because I was curious about Norah Jones after she released her first single or two. It was good to hear the album again. On the album Jones's voice sounds young and new, but the music has an old feeling to it. Covering "Cold Cold Heart" adds to the sense of looking back with the style of music. Come Away With Me is a solid album. The title track might be my favorite, because of an extra warmth in the vocals and music. This album doesn't immediately draw me back to a re-listen (as evidenced by the decade plus gap since the last time I listened to it), but I could easily listen to the album again.

I feel sorry for the people who have given this album a bad review. Not liking this album must mean you're cynical and jaded and that you've lost any sense of romance that you had in your body. It's a beautiful album. Beautiful songs, well produced, and Norah's voice? What can you say about that other than it's a thing of beauty. Interesting that she is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, whose album I just had about a week ago. I'm glad she chose to become a singer of these type of songs rather than following in the footsteps of her father and becoming a sitar player. Not that playing the sitar isn't cool as well. 4 stars.

Not my thing, but can understand why it's in the list as she's a superb voice.

A warm hug of an album and one that I remember fondly. Such an impressive voice and a modern-day Billie Holiday to my ear. I'll now go off and search out some more of Jones' albums as I don't think I've heard some of the more recent ones.

Love it when every single other track on an album is better than the one you've heard before

Fine first track.

Ms. Jones comes out swinging with some top tier jazz pop. Put this one on with a good cocktail on a lazy Sunday light and get swept away in the vibes.

Lovely voice but all sad songs is tedious

Wonderful album. Beautiful songs, perfectly executed and produced. My only issue is that Jones' vocals have not really won me over.

Just to float on that voice ..

Extremely charming and calm. Soothing, excellent voice.

Decent jazz

Sometimes loungey, sometimes folky singer songwriting. Very easy listening.

I'm surprised to see so many low reviews of Norah Jones' 'Come Away with Me'. There must be some confusion and that might be due to how this album skyrocketed Jones to popularity overnight. This is not a Pop, AOR, or smooth rock album. This is a Jazz album and for a Jazz vocal album to gain the traction and popularity this did says something about a cross-genre hit. 4/5.

If you're just listening by yourself 3/5. Not a ton of substance here but the tracks are nice to listen to. Listening with your SO on a rainy Sunday morning 5/5. Norah Jones knows her audience and the context in which they will listen to it. No better album in this context.

I didn't think I would like it this much. I forgot just how influential she was.

This was really nice

These images of a woman pining for a man seem more than old-fashioned, but the immaculate beauty of the songs themselves is hard to resist.

I love her a bunch and this is a pretty great album.

Perfect album for our early morning drive from Copenhagen to Sweden. Love her sound.

je me suis endormie dans le métro à 17h30 tu trouves ca drole norah ??

Gewoon een heel goed album. Niet het meest experimentele of vooruitstrevende.

Simple calm music with a beautiful voice, perfect for a cafe

Lovely voice

There's a reason this is one of the best selling albums of all time. But it's also the case, as one reviewer wrote, "the mood of this record stagnates after a few songs". 4 stars

Sultry and pleasant voice. Not my number one choice but well done for this style of music.

a nice album to chill to. beautiful voice. Although is it really an album I have to hear before I die? It's not memorable. btw, I love a review I saw today "I appear to have wandered into a Starbucks."

Soul food. The lyrics have so much depth and her singing really fits this style well.

When I started university, I remember listening to a good amount of Norah Jones. I remember thinking her songs were the sexiest, most romantic music I've ever heard. I still kind of think that. This collection of both covers and originals prove that. She's a fantastic pianist, but her gorgeous voice shines brightest here. A perfect soundtrack for rainy days in bed, but I could have this on in almost any context and feel at peace. I've heard criticisms that she sounds too "Starbucks", or isn't original among so many singer-songwriters. But she just does it so, so well...especially for 22.

Forgot about “The Long Day is Over.” Goosebumps.

Hyllystä löytyy. Aurinkoiseen kesään tai sateiseen sunnuntaihin. Helposti 4/5

like if fiona apple was happy

Norah Jones' debut album is a rather respectable album that doesn't quite scratch the jazz itch but it makes its presence felt in other, more appropriate genres. There is a reason why many went crazy for this album back when it came out and it is due to Norah's beyond obvious talent that stood out amongst what was coming down the conveyor belt at the time. A bit of a tough act to follow, if you ask me. Favorites: Seven Years, Cold Cold Heart, Feelin' the Same Way, Come Away With Me, Shoot the Moon, Turn Me On, I've Got to See You Again, One Flight Down, Nightingale.

This CD never left my wife's car when we were first dating and will forever remind me of rainy day drives. I can see myself pulling this out and putting it on from time to time. 3.5

Essential. An instant classic upon its release.

This album sounds so acoustic, and Jones's voice is "rawer" than I think, plus the production is more "lo-fi" than other Blue Note records I've known, thus leverages the intimacy & emphasize the sincerity. Jones and her music really wants to befriend with you - the listeners, and invite people to come away with her. Of course I'll join, how am I able to refuse this devotional delivery, huh? Fav Track: Seven Years

this album was actually a very enjoyable listen. i was expecting an r&b album, and while i feel like this is far from that, it still incapsulated many other genres. For example, you could hear folk pop and little jazz fusion in majority of the songs. when i hear the words jazz fusion my mind goes straight to when the pawn" by fiona apple. however this is different compared to that album. especially in the pacing. come away with me has a lot of slow love songs with good lyricism. when i first listened to the album, i felt like some of the songs sounds very similar and kinda were forgetful. however, i think that the b side of this album lowkey carries. some of my favorite tracks were "feelin the same way", "lonestar", "i've got to see you again" (might be my fav), and "painter song". other songs that stood out to be were one flight dream and the long day is over. the song "the long day is over" resonated with me because its daylight savings and im constantly tired but i have sm work to do and no time to actually do it. overall, i think i would give this album 4 stars. im honestly between giving it 3.5 but the best songs on this album are very strong and good so i think that it deserves 4 stars. will def be listening to this numerous times in the future.

Chill, smooth and comforting. Definitely music to relax to and possibly only suitable for certain moods but I really enjoyed this.

It's jazzy, so it was always going to get a decent score. I definitely liked the jazzy parts more than the parts that leaned more towards a folky, country sound. Still, pretty good. Perhaps a light 4, but still a 4. My favourite song was I've Got To See You Again.

Jones is a delight in her debut album, and fond memories of early married life are always conjured for me when I hear this album.

The charges of it being middle of the road and too Starbucks-y are all fair and understandable. But those are too easy criticisms: there is craft and nuance and subtlety here in the music making. Indeed, the playing is polished and understated (if unobtrusive) and lovely. The songs are fine, though the Hank Williams cover could be said to be ill-chosen or not memorably interpreted or both. The vocals are not overdone and are more consistently more mellifluous and appropriate than not. And certainly it’s a pleasure to listen to. Perhaps not multiple Grammies worth, perhaps not meriting 27 million in sales, but a pleasure nonetheless. All one has to do is simply listen to what’s here, not what’s not here or obsess about where one might hear it or who else might like it. Perhaps the reason it’s not exactly challenging is that it didn’t set out to be. It’s near perfect for what it aims to be (which is not challenging or jazz for that matter).

Heerlijke zachte, zoete troostmuziek.

7/10 relaxing, well performed but not riveting.

Norah Jones is Ravi Shankar’s daughter!!???? Pleasantly listenable but not a lot of substance, I guess it’s fine for a 2002 inclusion to the book. 7/10

Smokey

Takes me back. Great album capturing a sense of the era

2/2/23 4/5 Favorite song: don’t know why This album is the soundtrack of all of my favorite 00s rom coms and the perfect soundtrack for a snow day

I was calm afterwards I’m old enough to remember when this swept the Grammys seemingly out of know where. Thus I think I’ve heard most of this album in the ensuing 20 years from how much it was played specifically at Chapters.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. The great vocals were a given but the arrangements were constantly changing and kept things interesting, and production was on point. Good stuff.

Who doesn’t love her??

So so smooth, and expertly produced and arranged. A beautiful album.

Never thought I'd listen to this album, mostly because the singles were so prominent back in the day. Pleasantly surprised.

Silky voice

Beautiful album, I want to marry Norah Jones.

I liked this on the whole far more than I expected to.

It’s a strong album and hit SO big when it came out

So soft and cozy

Lounge music at its best. She has an incredible voice and writes songs that take full advantege of this. However it is not something that I am going to add to my playlists, as it really is not my style and it does tend towards 'sameness'.

Perfectly fine, but a little too saccharine for me. Not back background music for a miserable morning.

Not my style at all but she is just so damn talented. Great background work music too.

Honestly I really liked this album. I think she has a beautiful voice. This type of music is never really my style because it’s very calm and sad but it was soothing. She had a really good voice and executed well.

Didn't really love the laconic lead single when it came out so my enthusiasm was a bit tepid upon playing this ... But I'm glad I stuck with it - it's a nice easy-listening album but not without complexity. As is often the case, the single is the least-interesting song on the album. Probably what I appreciate most is the space within the album. One can easily envision themselves in a very small club listening to the band perform these tracks as is. The tracks are tight in an intimate way; raw yet still polished but not overly smooth. Again - picture a very small stage with 4 musicians playing to a late-night Sunday gathering. Highlight of the album is "Nightingale" - a great example of taking a simple 3 chord progression and turning it into something special, both in vocals and instrumentation (n.b. especially outstanding drumming). Although i can't necessarily see myself always in the mood for it it's just a real nice album for a quiet night. 7/10 4 stars.

She has a fantastic voice. Even though all of these songs are slow, I really liked this record. Don't know why was a great song. Same with come away with me. I would like to see what she could do on a more upbeat track. This was really good though!! 7/10

Who doesn’t love this mellifluous voice?

So fitting with a mild autumn day

Better than I remembered. Jazzy with a touch of country.

Very good!

Caldo, avvolgente, rilassante.

Lovely and comforting.

What a voice, like pure velvet! Really nice, enjoyable album.

I used to be one of the bros you see on here snarking about Starbucks, but a fresh listen won me over. Great voice, great tunes. Best track: Lonestar

Staple of 00's coffee shop music. Makes me nostalgic. "Don't Know Why" is a modern day jazz standard, which is a testament to the longevity of that tune and this album.

I liked this :)

It's a little poppy, sure, but that's what I like about it. Super easy listening, very pretty, and engaging. Not for every day, but in the right situations, its the album you want to put on.

I could have rated this album without listening to it as I have it memorized since my sister and I used to listen to it over and over in high school (but I did for pure enjoyment). Norah Jones has the perfect voice for this genre of music and her lyrics are poetic

Wow, a meaty chime of relaxation. Perfect dinner music when stressed. No real standouts, but all over Rancho Relaxo

Love the small combo and the simplicity of the arrangements which allows her breathy delivery to shine.

I liked this when it came out, but haven’t listened to it in many, many years. It feels like I’ve just come in from the cold to listen to it now. Norah Jones has such a warm voice… takes everything down a few notches and makes me want to drink hot cocoa. Really nice.

Jazzy, Norah's got a nice voice.

Very nice Jazz tunes!

Love it

Hade gärna följt med Norah i natten.

Great voice. Good songwriting. Just a little too mellow.

We did Don't Know Why in jazz band

I liked this one more than I expected. Very soothing, fantastic for the background while working.

Boller

I love ”Jazz”. Very pretty and deceptively simple

Baskare

20th July 2022 Listened on the drive back from London having been in the office. Seb round in the evening to stay, chilled rose. Really lovely, chilled album with Norah Jones’ amazing silky, husky voice.

Very lovely and soothing but super middle of the road. I could maybe stretch to 5 stars if she had a couple more of her original compositions on there.

Easy effortless and charming. Wil list to again

Norah Jones is a peaceful angel

Whenever I listen to Norah I feel like an adult listening to music for adults. Maybe it’s been the string of bad albums lately but ima give this a 4 (Note: I’ve been traveling and not had reliable internet. I happened to have this and Hail to the Thief on my iPod already. Will have to fill in some gaps in a few days)

Easy listening at it's best?

A childhood album and family favourite. While a bit long a run time given the slow tempo of the songs, her voice perfectly blends to each composition and brings the emotion of them to life. Not a genre defining album, but one of those great surprises at a time when music lost authenticity.

I simply love this album

This album was absolutely inescapable for a time, so enjoys a significant nostalgia bump. It's chilled and it's mellow and it brings back good memories! Fave track - "Don't Know Why"

Beautiful and stunning debut album. Not a weak track on it

One of the finest voices here... what happened to her? Is she alive?

Great voice

This album was a very pleasant listening experience. It was the type of sad, wistful romance stuff that you'd hear in like 2000s dramedys or something but its still good on its own.

I have a soft spot for Norah Jones, and "Don't Know Why" is one of my favorite songs of hers. But she's borderline soft rock, and I just can't take it in large batches.

On regarde la pochette et on essaie de rester neutre. Toute neutralité s’évapore quand Norah commence à chanter. Norah, je t’aime.

Sparser than I remember, so sweet

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Feelin the same way, Don’t know why

She has a nice soothing voice. Easy music to relax and listen to. Enjoyed this album.

Lovely album. One for a nice sunny day.

Very pleasant listening, Great voice.

She has a beautiful voice. One song at a time I love Norah Jones. This entire album at once became a bit boring. Not enough diversity to keep me interested the whole way through.

Nice and bluesy. Jones' vocals are smooth as butter. The jazzy textures on Cold Cold Heart are really cool. Album feels like a warm blanket, would return to this for sure in the right mood.

I unironically love smooth jazz like Norah Jones writes here. It’s beautiful Melodie’s combined with very heartfelt lyrics. I could understand why some folks may not really appreciate this music, but I don’t think there’s anything to not like here.

A beautiful voice on a record where all the songs sound the same. Title track's still a standout after all these years, though.

Мило и нежно.

Quite a pleasant sound throughout. I had heard the first song, but I enjoy the overall texture of her work a lot.

Though it does have a yuppie coffee shop vibe, it is still pretty cool and the bass lines and groove is better than expected. I get a hip daughter of jackson browne feel. enjoyable.

Lindo álbum, la voz de Norah Jones siempre me ha gustado, pero nunca me había detenido a escuchar un disco completo de ella. Para un momento tranquilo, todo en calma, "chillin'". 8/10

I thought this would be bland Starbucks music, but Norah won me over with her charm. Her voice is great and I found this album to be really calming. Still, I never want to hear "Don't Know Why" again since it was SO overplayed when this album came out.

Lovely chilled out tunes that just waft over the soul. She has a great voice that’s very versatile, mellow and smooth, you almost get drawn in whilst listening to her. Would listen to again and again

skroz solidno, poslusala sam prvo slucajno live verziju i zenska piva identicno, bas wow, 4

I've never heard this album but the songs here are nostalgically familliar. Wonderful and soothing voice pairs perfectly with the acoustic accompaniment. Sooo 2002 A lot of the songs on this 14 track, to my ear, sound very similar. That could be because this isn't a genre for me but it's worth noting the high volume and low diversity

I was in my early 30s when this album was released, and it was everywhere. I did like it when I first heard it, and, sure, it was played so often on the airwaves and elsewhere that I grew tired of it, but giving it another listen all the way through for the first time in probably 15 or more years, and well past the context now of that time when it got played too often so it was all-too-easily mocked, I think it's great. She's a solid songwriter, assembled some fantastic musicians, and it all coalesces nicely around her gorgeous voice. I would love to hear her take on some real bluesy, dark jazz (she very well might have; I haven't looked into it).

It’s fine

Entspannt und nett

Okay, I feel like a barista working on a rainy day

it's not the type of music I usually listen but this is exactly what I like about this platform I never thought I'll ever listen to this album on my own despite it being this great and a really emotional experience this woman's voice and songwriting gives me chills I just know whoever get her on the studio and recorded this knew what they were doing with their investment Also this was her debut and till this day it is the most praised work of hers which is rare in my opinion imagine ur on ur peak of career on ur debut??? a well deserved album to be on this list

It's kind of the same thing over and over again, but there's a certain charm to these songs and I think they have a time and place. 6/10

Nice jazzy voice and good musicians. cockatail or scotch ?

I know I’m getting old because I can enjoy listening to this. Nice for a relaxing morning

Good voice boring songwriting

Not my thing, but real solid voice

langweilig aber coherent! und kranke vox!

Overall nice sound. Only a couple catchy songs though.

I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. Nice and calming

Great voice, very smooth. Great lounge and swanky restaurant music....like at The Earle in Ann Arbor.

I’d never heard of her before seeing this come up, but what a great suggestion. Her voice is so rich and beautiful, certain inflections she does on these songs really elevate them. The songwriting also very strong, definitely very personal while also being very applicable to points in my and others lives. The instruments are played very elegantly (really using my thesaurus here), the piano definitely carries a lot of these tunes but the guitar strings on ‘Nightingale’ aren’t to be passed by. I do think that this album suffers from how slow each of the songs are, while they’re sung very well, some songs do feel a bit ‘samey’ and definitely blends the album too much into one style and topic. Sadly don’t think I’ll be returning too much to this but it was still a very pleasant listen and would still recommend for anyone who loves summer walks with mild temperatures.

Coffee shop-core reminiscent of early 70s singer-songwriters. Feels like sipping a cup in the early morning before the rush (3-3.5)

Musicas boas para cortar a unha

Set off a movement of soft sunset smoothness, & not surprising with a voice like that. Easy listening, but a good kind.

- great performance, no criticisms: smooth vocals without dramatic straining during high notes, no excessive vibrato, just straight warmth and tone. I'd venture that you'd have to be borderline psychopathic to actively dislike or hate this album - her voice and style remind me a lot of a relatively unknown singer-songwriter I enjoyed a lot as a tween, so it's clear where that artist found her inspiration. always interesting when you hear the influenced music before the influencer and things suddenly make sense

Very pleasant music and relaxing

Fave song: Don't know why, Lonestar is also pretty good, I've got to see you again is also good.

She’s a great singer and the album is smooth and jazzy. Not my flavor but I respect it

This is an incredibly pleasant sounding record. Norah Jones has a very impressive and soothing voice, and the music is very warm and easy to listen to. Ultimately the album lacks variety though and I found myself counting down the songs by about the half way point. Honestly this album felt much longer than it's ~45 minute run time.

Музыка для лифтов. Но хорошая

Rustgevend om te luisteren, maar eentonig

все таки не моя музыка, хоть и звучит от общего приятно - 3

I don't mind this too much. I always thought Norah had a voice like honey, and if she sang the phone book it would sound amazing. I don't seek this out, but don't blatantly hate it.

Beautiful but boring background ballads bereft of bops. B-

Smooth, but not really my style.

Pleasant enough.

I was surprised how light this album was. Really short. Whatever you know it it’s beautiful and all that.

She is so hotel... uh!

All of the songs sounded pretty much the same, so there's not really any need for a song-by-song. All of them did remind of a peaceful afternoon with my lover. And all of them were really good. 6,6/10

Most relaxing album I’ve heard in a long time. Almost sent me to sleep in the office.

Pleasant. Bit same-y after a while

This albums fine but I do not understand how it's one of the best selling of all time?

"Don't Know Why" is a great classic I haven't heard in a while. Overall, just a nice calm album to have on in the background while working.

don’t know why: this is the biggest song from the record? that's crazy. was this played everywhere in 2002? i would think so, because that's the only way she won so big at the grammy’s. not a bad song at all, but eh, slightly underwhelmed. seven years: easily one of my favourite songs from the album, it also reminds me of another song and i LOVE IT! "she'll sing a song to anyone that comes along." cold cold heart: always fascinated when artistes use a cover of a song in their album. i like this cover, and i will always like this song, "the more I learn to care for you. the more we drift apart..." past trauma is real and really shapes our experiences in love and life. feelin’ the same way: ooh, interesting intro! i like that it is a quick intro. i like it, but not something that stands out. i see why people would listen to this as background music. but i like the lyrics, will help when i doubt myself. come away with me: i'd probably dance to this in the kitchen with a hypothetical lover. "come away with me on a bus, come away where they can't tempt us with their lies." easily one of my favourite songs from the record, but i still think a lot of it sounds the same. shoot the moon: "the summer days are gone too soon, you shoot the moon and miss completely, and now you're left to face the gloom" beauutiful lyrics by jesse harris, definitely a song i will listen to in september/october to get over the blues. a nice melodic, breezy, comfy song. turn me on: damn, that "like a flower" was v cool, but not my kinda song. i don't dance, but if i would ever need music to dance in the living room to with a potential lover, this would be on there! lonestar: "i would give anything for you to shine down on me." yes! i’ve got to see you again: LOVELY! haunting and absolutely riveting. i love the amy winehouse-yness of this song. there’s desperation and a breathiness that makes it feel like a hug. “i could almost go there, just to watch you be seen.” DAMN. painter song: i definitely like the second half of the album more, and all of these songs much more than don’t know why. so comforting, and the piano before “and i…” is awesome. “i’d climb inside the skies to be with you.” one flight down: not a bad song at all, but it reminds me of elevator music/bookstore music? and that’s usually a good thing, but i might not listen to this as much. love the instrumentals though! nightingale: cute song. i still think it’s wonderful how somebody so young made such a mature sounding album-absolutely commendable! the drum beat after “nightingale” around the 1 minute is v cool, and nice lyrics also. will listen again, for sure. the long day is over: different vibe to the intro. the kind of song i would listen to before bed, when my back is hurting and my body is breaking. i am not sure if i like the even breathier backing vocals though. not my favourite. the nearness of you: not my jam. again, there’s nothing wrong with it, but lacks the oomph factor for me + i like jazzy piano, but then there’s not much else? probably won’t listen to this again/won’t remember. overall: not the kind of music i usually listen to it, but i still understand the appeal. it's genuinely remarkable to have a 22-23 year old produce something like this! i love the jazzy piano and the clear inspiration drawn from nina simone, miles davis, billie holiday etc. maybe, when i am in my 40s, i will come to appreciate this more, especially over dinner parties.

This is a good album to sip milk to.

Caught me in a good spot. Just finished my lab report so feeling good. Her voice is really good and it’s just quite a vibe honestly. Good laundry folding tunes

I have a natural aversion to albums that are mostly not originals/written by the artist. Sadly, even Ravi Shankar's daughter is not immune to this aversion. That said, I did enjoy this album. The tracks Nightingale and Shoot The Moon particularly spoke to me. Even if the instrumentation is a little more sparse than I tend to prefer, the lush production makes up for it. Her vocals are GORGEOUS and I only wish the songs/instrumentation were up to that impossible standard. While I am unlikely to revisit this a tonne, I will be playing this over dinner with Ariel with GREAT regularity. Standout Tracks: Seven Years, Cold Cold Heart, Shoot The Moon, Nightingale Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely album, not quite my bag but good.

Norah has a great voice and Come Away With Me and Don't Know Why are great songs, but overall this is a 3 for me. The album would definitely benefit from being a few songs shorter and outside of the two hit singles the rest of the songs on the album sound incredibly similar. As many others have mentioned this album feels tailor made to be played on repeat in a coffee shop.

Such a gorgeous voice. It might just be that I listened to this at 5am because I couldn't sleep, despite being sleepy, but it completely felt like the right album for the right moment. It was such a gentle, relaxing listen. I knew a few of the singles but nothing else and I enjoyed it all. Not sure it's something I'd regularly listen to, but it was perfectly pleasant while it happened. 3/5

Nice enough but a bit too MOR for me. Turn Me On was a very good track.

Great singer, perfect fancy restaurant background music, but too slow for me to actively listen to.

Nancy Myers-ass music for coastal grandma vibes. Pair with a nice Pinot Grigio and a 5000sf summer cottage at Newport.

Get old half way through.

Beautiful😊Nice and smooth, great for reading📖Thank you 💙💙💙💙

I really don’t like this kind of chamber pop jazz whatever, and especially I really don’t like this kind of showy vocal in combination with that pop jazz whatever. But I will admit production wise it’s fine.

pleasant enough background music

Great album

Pleasant enough but completely and utterly inoffensive. The definition of a high 5 or low 6/10.

I’m sick so I’m grateful that this was actually very pleasant to listen to. Nothing super special to write home about (how did this get so popular?!) but it was pleasant.

Really quite surprised how much i liked this one. Wasn't expecting it tbh. Pretty good instrumentation and vocal melodies. Reminds me alot of John Mayers more mellow stuff. Wasn't blown away but enjoyed listening.

Great voice, great instrumentation, fantastic recording. I have a soft spot for female jazz vocals, so this does land within my taste profile. I haven't ever listen to this album, but I have heard a couple of cuts. I never went back for the whole thing until now. I don't see myself coming back to this very often, but this does have a rainy day, staring out the window vibe, so maybe as an accompaniment to that activity? Kind of wild she's Ravi Shankar's daughter. Never would have known unless I read her parents names on Wikipedia. Maybe that says something about her; that she wasn't riding coattails to get where she is. Or maybe it says something about people's awareness of Ravi Shankar, or perhaps that his coattails weren't big enough to ride? Not sure. See you on the next rainy day, Norah Jones ⭐⭐⭐.49999999999

First Listen: Already familiar with Don't Know Why. I love how the song trots along, with Norah's vocals sitting perfect in the mix. Her voice is full, but floats through the track. I love the guitar harmonics in Seven Years. I really like Feelin' The Same Way. Has that sort of car ride song vibe that I really enjoy. The layers of guitars, piano, and percussion create a super warm track. Wasn't loving Lonestar but those harmonies at the end are gorgeous. There was another song earlier that had some real nice harmonies on it as well. I've Got To See You Again has a nice Latin flair to it. A little bit moodier cut, I think Norah sells being horny way better on this compared to Turn Me On. Love the violin. Painter Song has a nice autumn feel to it. The guitar intro was a nice quiet before the full band came in, and I loved the inclusion of accordion. The Nearness of You is a beautiful closer. OVERALL: Norah has the same sort of effect Adele has for me, where I'm never not going to enjoy her music. Her voice is warm and inviting, and the musicians on these songs are obviously all very talented. I don't think musical boundaries were pushed, or any massive risks were taken, but I also don't think that's necessary when Norah's formula of 'good voice, good music, good song', works so consistently for her and the audience. 7/10 T3: Feelin' The Same Way, Painter Song, The Nearness of You

Beautiful voice and nice lazy vibe. However this is just background music. I can see why it was popular but it's hardly earth shattering. Does it deserve a place on this list. Probably not

nothing against norah or this style of jazz, i did like this, but as a lot of the reviews before mine have said this is coffee shop music. not that that alone should count against it but i did feel that this album never quite got anywhere

I was hoping I'd like this a bit more and there is certainly a distinct time and place where this hits but I do find everything about it just kind of ....... fine. But that's OK! IT"S GOOD!!!

Very pleasant old school sound. Breezy listen.

Tasteful, super competent musicianship; easygoing and charming arrangements; rock solid choice of standards and covers; her voice is just right, like mama bear's porridge. Is there such thing as apex-level pleasantness and agreeability? Exponentially acceptable.

Velvety and deep tones, but there is something a little bit one-note about the album.

Parfois folk parfois jazzy mais globalement boring, je n’ai malheureusement pas accroché

Boring but unique

It's ok.

It’s logical that this (debut) album is on the list since it is the third highest selling album of the century. The music is blues-based with a touch of country, and is reminiscent of female singers of the 1950s. The wispy singing gets to be boring for me after a few songs, so the album drags towards the end. 3.5 stars.

Not what I typically listen to but very enjoyable

I liked it 👍

Super pleasant and listenable with terrific production and great performance by Norah and her band. That said, it's a bit lightweight and unambitious in its approach. Nice enough, but not something I'd call a great artistic statement.

The definition of "easy listening", sounds like something you'd hear playing on loop at a JC Pennys. Objectively good music, just a little too easy and low energy in my opinion. No songs really stand out from the rest, if you like one song you'd likely like all of them. It does remind me of a female version of John Mayer's vocals and music style, minus Mayer's guitar skills. overall decent, but I will probably not seek this one out again

Loving that there is a deep, potent and evil connection that people have with this and Starbucks

Liked this, not in exciting way but in a it’s nice kind of way.

Beautiful album, chill vibes and great vocals. Definitely worth a listen. 3 trending towards 4.

Not quite bubble gum pop, and signified the alternative artsy person of the time. Much of the album is very melancholic but I've got to give a special shout-out to Don't Kny Why. That song is awesome

Meh. But pleasant meh.

Not really my thing but she's got a lovely voice and it's really easy to work to

Enjoyable and well performed if abit samey

Ideal music for an easy Sunday morning.

a VERY relaxing lobotomy.

convencida de que para disfrutar norah jones hay que tener 30 años de edad mínimo

Pretty chill album, I really dig her vocals, though in all honesty I'd rather be listening to Back to Black 😥

Muy bonito y tal, pero tampoco me ha impactado demasiado. Me lo voy a quedar cerquita, porque a veces apetece algo así ligero y simple, con una voz hermosa

It's hard to divorce this from what it ultimately became - the soundtrack to every Starbucks on the planet - but when this came out it was lovely, chill accessible light jazz that was great to throw on in the background. Nothing groundbreaking, but like Jack Johnson and Coldplay, there's little here that will upset anyone. It's extremely palatable without being controversial or boundary pushing. The only reason it bears mentioning is Jones' voice, which is unique and compelling - I only wish the music was a little less middle of the road.
