Great, really lovely. Chilled as fuck

Beautiful sleepy crooner jazz. This is the perfect album when I just need to relax and not do anything productive. 4/5

Norah Jones almost cannot be topped in termsnof a warm, comforting delivery and sound. She could sing any song from any genre and you would feel better after hearing it.

Pretty nice and chill album, compared to some of the weird ones that we've had on here. I enjoyed having this in the background, it had a "live performance at a restaurant" vibe where the music is nice and chill but you're mainly focusing on doing other things. This was released in 2002 but it has a much earlier vibe.

really nice, enjoyed more than i thought I would

She has a very pretty voice, but this album was just a little too slow for me. I'm sure I would enjoy it more if I was trying to be calm. I need music that energizes me when I work though or else my ADHD takes over lol I have for sure heard don't know why before

I love Norah Jones's voice. The winners here are huge; some of the others are a little more "meh."

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones feels like falling into love for the first time…soft, a little shy, but full of hope. It’s got that cozy, late-night vibe where everything’s quiet except your thoughts and that person you’re thinking about. There’s this sense of maybe this could be something real running through it. Notable standouts: Don’t know why, Come away with me, Shoot the Moon, One Fight Down and The Nearness of You.

Album feels like the final plea of hope and commitment between old lovers. Delicate guitar riffs and piano capture the eternity that passes when you’re trying to find the right words to say goodbye. Standouts: don’t know why, cold cold heart, come away with me, shoot the moon, turn me on, the long day is over

The perfect voice for an album as tender and romantic as this one. The standout songs for me were Don’t Know Why, Come Away With Me, Turn Me On, and Painter Song. I wish there was a bit more variety and range in the songs, but it’s a solid album overall.

Relaxing and pleasant but boring, low 4

One of my favorite finds when it came out.

Okay. 4/5

If you love Norah’s voice on this one but want something a little more engaging, try her 2011 release Little Broken Hearts with Danger Mouse on production. While it can still have that dreamy vibe there’s a little more of a beat centric approach. Still I do love this album for its vocal performance and subtle musicality that results from musicians knowing how to do what’s right for the song and not their ego.

Really nice album, great background music to listen too.

Calming and relaxing music. Pretty good, just not really my thing. Still, I'll give it 4/5

Super smooth and silky. Great easy listening

reminds me of my mom

Fine like Summer wine.

Great nice soothing voice and relaxing album

fantastic voice. great relaxing vie-piano & guitar are great accompaniment to her vocals. 4.5 stars

The perfect voice for an album as tender and romantic as this one. The standout songs for me were Don’t Know Why, Come Away With Me, Turn Me On, and Painter Song. I wish there was a bit more variety and range in the songs, but it’s a solid album overall.

Diana gave this a 5

A classic - not no skip though

Very good album, a bit outside of what I normally listen to

Very torch song-y. Her vocals worked for me, very effective for this style. Of course the "hit" comes first. But frankly, the other songs stood on their own for me. They were pretty much of the same quality. Nice jazzy change of pace for me. Dug it a lot. Top tracks: "Come Away With Me," "The Nearness Of You," "I've Got To See You Again," "Lonestar," "DOn't Know Why"

So, new jazz? Same as the old jazz in that it doesn't quite speak to me. Still, this is a slick album. Very jazz bar feel - slow and groovy. I very much remember when this album came out but I did not know Norah Jones was Ravi Shankar's daughter. Very cool. Her voice is very good and she sings with a nice tempo; varies it from song to song. The band that accompanies her is very good too, but I really enjoyed the jazzy piano. And that is Jones herself. So kudos. I was never a big fan of the two big hits, the title song and Don't Know Why. I much prefer Seven Years, Shoot the Moon, One Flight Down, Nightingale, and The Long Day is Over. So also kudos to Jesse Harris and Lee Alexander, her bandmates who wrote those songs except for the last two, which Jones composed (with Harris on the last one). Solid album.

Great voice, jazzy vibes, hopeful and easy listening. Nothing shocking here, nothing offensive. Don't let the ties to Starbucks influence your opinion of poor Norah. She's doing her best and it's pretty great.

Favorite Track: Come Away With Me

Interesting

A gentle beautiful tjing

A very good debut album. 20+ years on, the songs sound like standards. Lacks the variety that NJ gains with each passing entry into her discography.

What will be the case for many artists on this list, this is my introduction to Norah Jones. Her voice is so great to me it will be what carries the score to what it is. I enjoyed my time with this album and look forward to exploring her music further. Favorite Song: Don't Know Why / Turn Me On

8.5/10 A terrific album. Norah is one of the greats of this genre. I teetered between 8.5/9 but ultimately didn’t have enough of a cohesive feel to get me to a 9. Favorite Song: don’t know why

An old favorite. A real singer, singing real songs, and accompanied by real musicians. What's not to love?

I remember this fondly when she debuted with it. Sultry voice, jazz-country piano, solid backup band, cool dad, beautiful. And it holds up - nothing groundbreaking, but worth a listen now and then. 3.5 -> 4.

Beautiful album that reminds me of the optimism of my mid 20s and the early 2000s. Beautiful voice and an album I still revisit.

Fave Songs: - Feelin' The Same Way - Shoot The Moon - Lonestar - I've Got To See You Again (best song) - One Flight Down - Nightingale Honourable Mentions - Turn Me On (her voice is so groovy) A very chill and soft opening. A refreshing change where we finally have a female artist and we're back in the millennium! What a new and interesting artist to add to my list. Sonically, the album is very lovely and easy to listen to. I do feel like im on the spring of 2000s, as the sun begins to set perhaps at the aftermath of a barbecue. The acoustic chords were familiar but also new. I'm not a slow song enthusiast by any means but I enjoyed this album. Norah's voice is just wonderful, sets your body lighter. I don't think I'd listen to the album again unless I was feeling sad because it feels like upbringing. Some tracks wasnt anything to wrote home about i feel, a lot of the songs individually could have been swapped and rearranged. I'd give it a 3.5 but it'll be a low 4 as I'd listen to it again but the fave songs really stood out the most to me.

Well that was pretty damn great. I didn't listen to the Super Deluxe Edition because it's like 3 times longer and I cba. Personal favourites were Don't Know Why, Feelin' the Same Way, and Turn Me On. I liked probably 10/14 so I think I'll be generous and give it a 4/5

Enjoyable but a bit boring

Banger

Hella pleasant and listenable. A bit more jazzy could've made it a little better but actually a very timeless and classic debut. 7/10

Love Norah Jones. Probably listened to this too many times ages ago, but I still like it and it holds up.

Love Norah. Makes me wanna sip a martini in a smoky bar. I like this album but I think she's only gotten better and more experimental overtime.

A modern classic. One of the golden voices of contemporary jazz. Don't Know Why and Come Away With Me are pure delights to listen to.

Simple, elegant, not quiet but at the same time not energetic. Very long album, many short tracks

Princess Diaries <3 Helt ok, ikke dritbra, men likte viben

I love Norah Jones.

Longtime favorite.

Norah Jones is marvelous to listen to. She has a great, smooth and sultry voice, and her music has a nostalgic vibe that draws you in and makes you feel like you've been listening to her for years. I can't name a single song, but I am happy to listen again and again.

like a warm cup of coffee at panera bread in 2004

Very pleasant music to put on in the background and half listen to. Dragged on a bit, could've used some variety

Very good, not her best album.

Muy agradables canciones en un gran debut.

Beautiful romantic album

Nice album. Great voice, very mellow. Played a couple times so m just be good.

# Album Name: Come away with me # Artist: Norah Jones # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: Low 4 for me. Norah has a wondeful voice. Theres 3 great tracks and 11 OK tracks on this album. Its quite a mellow listen. Rather nice. But not great. # Top Tunes: Come away with me / Dont know why / Turn on me # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Lovely stuff

Beautiful album. Norah's vocals range from delicate to raw.

Lovely voice

Album 658 of 1001 Norah Jones - Come Away With Me (2002) Rating : 4 / 5 Great debut album. Very relaxed vibe. A bit of a mix of jazz, pop, and country. Awesome piano skills and voice. Can't get much more "easy listening" than this.

Yes, this album has a bit of Hallmark flavor to it...but the musicianship and production are top of the line. And that's just my kind of music. Playlist adds - Cold Cold Heart, Feelin' The Same Way, One Flight Down, Nightingale

Nora Jones comes from a musical background, after all her dad was Ravi Shankar! But she started out like any other, playing Mon nights at the Metropolitan cafè on 1st Ave btw 52 and 53rd - I lived upstairs - NOT ONCE did I see her, in all the times that I went there, damn!! Gorgeous not from this time voice, soothing, creamy dreamy velvety. She was a breath of fresh air whoooosh right into this genre. Great listen for a cloudy cold Sunday while you read the 480 sections of the NYTimes

• 4/5 • Lovely blend of jazz, country, folk, and pop delivered with a torch singer aesthetic

Good voice over good instrumentals, what's not to like

Laid back..and awesome

Y2K nostalgia blast of listening to Sunday morning radio. Sweet and soulful vocals from Ms. Jones accompanied by quality musicianship.

Good album. I don't have the energy for proper prose right now so this should be a placeholder for future edits. Fav tracks: Lonestar 4/5

Took a second listen but actually quite enjoyed this one.

It's a very sweet-sounding album. Easily palatable. Nothing jumping out as extreme or risky. You could easily have this one on in the background for pretty much anything casual. Guests over? Check. Working in the office? Check. TJ Maxx? Check. Norah's voice is beautiful from front to back on this one and accompanies the instruments perfectly. I think it would just be dishonest to not admit that this is a good album, despite it not being edgy or progressive. I can see why she won multiple grammy's from this.

One of the best things about playing music with your friends is picking up on each others musical tendencies and preferences, even ones they aren't aware of themselves, so that, over time, your sensibilities sort of meld together. As Palantoni (sunshine and silliness) and Sean or anyone else whose ever played in a band with me knows, I've never heard a twinkly, jangly bluesy piano line I didn't like and then immediately demand to hear more of. So while this album is, as most of us have pointed out, pretty sanitized, a little repetitive and boring - there's something about the way Norah plays piano that speaks to something deep within me. Don't ask me why. You might say, I don't know why.

The absolute pinnacle of coffee shop jazz pop, in the best way. First half of the album is much stronger. Such a beautiful voice and cool compositions. And a Shankar! Was close to giving this a three but it’s just too nice of an album. Venti iced latte with extra foam please. Plug for another more contemporary album in this mellow acoustic wheelhouse: Joan Shelly - Like the River Loves the Sea.

Really solid jazz-esque pop album. Favourite tracks: "Painter Song", "The Nearness of You"

it’s so… 2002

This album felt like a warm hig.

Cool and soothing.

Beautiful

Fantastic classic album.

Misschien wel de zachtste stem in de muziekwereld. Come Away With Me is het album bij uitstek die ik uitkies voor een gezellig streepje muziek bij het eten. 4.1

Very mellow, but interesting for an easy-listening piece. Reminds me of the Wicklow Mountains and my father, who loves this album. Recorded in NYC by an Indian-American!

This album really is the most sugary type of cafee jazz you can get, with some smooth butter on top. Marvin Gaye probably is the most stereotypical "love song" artist, but this album might just claim the title as the ultimate love album. At least that's the feeling I get when listening to it. Overall I think this is a great album. 'Come Away With Me' has been played loads of times, but it still is a great song. My favourite song of the album probably is 'Shoot The Moon' though, such a nice song. Got a touch of melancholy to it that hits different. I only knew 'Come Away With Me' when starting out, but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this whole album. It gets a bit samey at times, but all songs are just very good. I think it deserves a strong 4!

Heavenly perfection.

I probably enjoyed this album more than its worth, but I just had a slipknot album yesterday and this feels like a girl you fall in love with after you just get out of a toxic relationship all because she asked you how your day was.

One of those “I get it” albums but not really something I’d toss on. I do feel like it deserves its place on the list - first song has had the airwaves in a chokehold for 20 years and there’s no denying the influence even though I never listened to her knowingly before. It all sounds wonderful.

I forgot about her sadly. What a romantic soul. She can sing to me any day.

Good musician and song writer. A little after a few songs. Good music though.

Beautiful voice. The tracks are so simple but each instrument is perfectly placed and mixed. Something about the simplicity of it all and the way her voice comes through makes it such a memorable record

很喜歡歌手的聲音,專輯的第一首「Don't Know Why」特別溫暖抒情,很有冬日坐在火爐前的那種感覺。另一首是「Lonestar」的舒服愜意。

Classic

Ravi’s daughter is one talented singer / pianist. Smooth music for a mellow vibe.

Det helt gode søndagsalbum, gør ikke en flue fortræd

Hard to get bored of her vocals throughout this album.

sophisticated, but absolutely heart-felt. wonderful version of Cold, Cold, Heart

Perfect in the cold weather!

S M O O T H Norah Jones does what she does extremely well - airy vocals + great piano playing.

Easy to listen to. Easy to forget also

Actually good

Pretty cool!

Hella good. Nice wind down drive album on frida

Norah has a great voice, and this is a nice relaxing mellow jazz record. I enjoyed it.

You go Norah Jones.

underrated by starbucks haters good album! jazz/pop fusion isnt something very common to me but i liked it as a pop un-enjoyer

I remember listening to this in the car with my mom as a kid in the morning on the way to school, so the nostalgia makes this album so much sweeter. I love her voice, and the chill vibes.

This is an old favourite of mine, from back when I first started trying to branch out from my teenage grunge/metal tastes. I still find it really easy, chill album to listen to, without it getting boring. Love Norah's voice.

For a long time I couldn't listen to this album. I found it boring, way too calm to my taste. Then I saw her live 15 years ago, and it started to change my impression of her and her music. Sure, it's very calm, but the music is actually nice and she's a great singer. I'm not a huge fan, but I don't run away from it anymore.

Lovely listen. Perfect for a walk home

I feel like this is really what I needed to hear today. I briefly considered giving this a 5.

Gripped me from the start, she’s got a great voice with emotion behind each lyric.

Come Away with Me has a nice guitar solo. Shoot The Moon is pleasant. I've Got to See You Again is a good one with some violin. Painter Song has accordion including a solo so that's cool, very old time beach vibe. Overall a very chill and laid back album, kind of bluesy/jazzy/soul with solid vocals.

very good album, enjoyed it quite a bit, hadn't heard anything from her, but she is very talented!

Vibing hard, unexpectedly horny lyrics

listened to again like a warm hug

An excellent fusion of pop and jazz. Norah's voice fits the production of the album so well as she reinforces the softness and gentleness of the record. Additionally, she brings spectacular songwriting to this project. Some of the songs kind of blend together, making the album dry at some points, yet, some songs on this project are just amazing. Favorite song: Painter Song --> The writing of this track is so well done, painting (no pun intended) a poignant and vivid image in the listeners mind.

Beautiful. Not usually what I listen to, but it sets the tone for the evening.

"Don't Know", "Come Away", "Shoot the Moon"... sometimes jazzy/bluesy songs and sometimes country... with the breathy voice that was in vogue in the late 90s to mid 00s, like a feminine Coldplay singing jazz club tunes

Not really anything I am interested in in any way but it is very well out together.

Classy

It's nice to get a chill album every now and then.

Her soft delivering but also raspy voice perfectly fits the smooth melody of the jazz/blues instrumentals

the og coffeehouse rock

This is an album with just a girl and her piano, about as well as it can be done. It’s not the most interesting music in the world, but it is really nice on the ears. Norah Jones reminds me of my mom’s van. And for that I have to give it 4 stars.

super mellow

I've never had had sex to this album, 4*.

The small amount of sex that I managed to have in the early 2000s was soundtracked by this album. Or the first 90 seconds of it at least

Her calming and powerful voice made it a pleasant listen all throughout

Nice relaxing Pop Bar Jazz

Beautiful album. Good background music and some great guitar work in there, not really my style though

Lots of nostalgia. Very chilled album. 7.5/10

people keep calling this starbucks music in the reviews here. this is true, but not in the way they mean. to me it's the starbucks of my childhood. hot chocolate in december, before knowing the evils of the company or the poor quality of the drink. a warm blanket of an album.

This album is my comfort music. It may not be particularly innovative or groundbreaking, but it's so pleasant to listen to while you're wrapped up in a blanket on a chilly evening. And her vocals are amazing! 4 stars

Don’t Know Why I Didn’t Come Away With Turn Me On (threefer) and 2002 album of the year gets you on the 1001 list. This album makes me want to go out for a high end dinner at a classy cocktail lounge and listen to Nora’s smooth, schmaltzy voice. Even a coffee house will do (4.4*s)

I get that this album isn't for everyone but I've always enjoyed Norah Jones. Her voice is soft and unique and the blend of jazz and pop here is quite successful (walk into any coffee shop and prove me wrong). Light piano melodies, lullaby quality, relaxing vibe. Just add some rain outside and a good cocktail, I don't think you can go wrong here (+ Ravi Shankar) = 3.95.

This album makes me feel like I'm getting stood up at a bar during a rainy night in New York City. Unmatched Vibes.

Norah Jones, daughter of Ravi Shankar, was just 22 years old when she released this debut album to mass acclaim. I’d heard much murmuring about it as some landmark of modern jazz, but had never sought it out until now. After multiple listens, I’m ready to confirm that “Come Away With Me” is two things: absolutely lovely, and absolutely terrifying. It’s lovely because of the atmosphere instilled by every one of these tracks: calming, lazy and hazy. It’s casually erotic and nonchalantly dreamy. I’m particularly drawn to the warmth of “Feelin’ the Same Way”, the mass appeal of the title track, and the gorgeously lethargic “The Long Day Is Over”. Special praise goes to Jones’ vocals: a little breathy, but very rich, soulful, and incredibly self-assured. The instrumentalists do a very good job, adding splashes of colour without becoming too indulgent or distracting. Tasteful slide guitar in “Seven Years” and “Lonestar” gives a country twang. Then there’s the jazzy bouncy double bass and twinkling piano in “Cold Cold Heart”, and several delightful acoustic and electric guitar solos throughout. So there it is: absolutely lovely. But “Come Away With Me” is also terrifying, and that’s because it’s triggering some kind of late-20’s existential crisis in me. Here’s the thing: I would never have gone near this stuff ten years ago. I would have found it incredibly bland, dull, shapeless, faceless. So now, as a twenty-eight year old… why don’t I still object to this music on impulse? Why do I find it lovely, laidback and comforting? Why am I giving it four stars where I gave fearless, envelope pushing artists like Big Black or Throbbing Gristle just one? Why don’t I look to be challenged any more? What happened to my superiority complex? Where is my sense of adventure? When did I last write a song? When did I last learn a knotty guitar solo? When did I last have an exciting dream? Why do I work in finance, and wear plain shirts to the office now? When did it become important to wipe down the windows after every shower, or keep a record of energy bills, or do a big shop on a Monday? Why was my last purchase a set of five pairs of socks? Am I bound to waste away in coffee shops and offices? Will I ever make anyone laugh again? Will “Come Away With Me” lull me into a comatose life? Will it be playing in purgatory? Will it be the hold music while I wait in line for all the promises life made to me as a child? The questions are terrifying, and thus so is the music. It turns over in my mind, beautiful and horrific, as I become numbed into my thirties and beyond. No alarms and no surprises, please.

Ok, so this also seems like vocal jazz, but I like this better. Maybe it is more singer/songwriter? This is a good album. It’s a chill record. Like a relaxing Saturday record.

Very nice, nepo babies never sounded so good.

This was a fun album to listen to and will be favorited. Got it downloaded for my flight back to the US and looking forward to listening to it.

Super glad this was on here as I probably would never have gone back to it without it. Just real solid music. Kind of poppy, singer songwriter, jazz, a few country ish songs. I’m not surprised this is one of the top selling albums of all time cuz I feel like this was everywhere. On the radio, every Starbucks, and everyone’s iTunes.

A perfect album for a rainy morning listen. I had forgotten about Norah Jones, so this was a pleasant reminder that I need to keep her in the rotation.

Whatever happened to Norah Jones? Enchanting voice, beautiful songs. I actually have this album. Not played it in years.

This album is a lovely calm listen, the mastering is sublime, it sounds amazing. This was so close to being a 5 but the last song just lets it down a bit. Shame.

This album is nearly perfect.

Wow she's so pretty! What a unique voice. There are so many of these songs that are way overplayed. But I do like the sound. Her music makes me want to be in a coffee shop while it's full on fall outside. I'll give this one a 4

Really like her and the mood of the music. Easy to listen to and enjoyed the whole thing.

It only took me a year, but finally summoned the granular capabilities to listen to this. My sister listened to this upwards of 5 times each day, frequently the same four seconds looped... Anyway, detaching from that, pretty good honestly. Not the most eventful, but not unpleasant (particularly heard in full lol)

Very nostalgic.

Pleasant

Great voice, great phrasing

Cool guitar and voice. Nice lyrics as well. Can feel a bit same-y though.

Personal favourite, so it's hard to be unbiased. Her voice is soothing and beautiful. Admittedly, there's little in the way of daring or interesting, hence the four, and not five, stars. Still love it.

Relaxing listening that I remember in high school that we would listen to in art class.

Loved this record when it first came out. It was my jazzy fase. Still like it very much but don't listen to it as much as I did once.

I remember when this won album of the year at the Grammys. I was in high school, and I remember thinking it was super lame that an album like this won. I was young and stupid of course, it’s a gorgeous album. Don’t Know Why is an all time great vocal jazz song, what a masterpiece that track is. The title track is fantastic too. The album maybe runs a little longer than it needed to, but it’s one of those albums that is perfect in the background in the right scenario, like a rainy Sunday morning.

Achieves epic levels of pleasantness

Not a heavy rotation but solid soulful melody and voice.

This is the first time I have listened to this album. I thought of picking it up several times in the past but never got around to it. Smooth and soulful with beautiful, intimate instrumentation and an amazing voice. It is worth the listen. A little too mellow to be in my regular playlist but it is a definite listen for when you want a relaxing experience.

I enjoy this as much as the first time that I heard morsels of the album while in the south of France on vacation. Just so very enjoyable.

It's hard to separate the music from the good memories associated with this album.

Not something I would normally listen to. Beautiful voice...strong album.

So we got the Shankar's daughter today! She's a great singer and this is a really good album! 4 stars.

ITS A VIBE OKAY

I had first heard of Norah Jones a while back when my parents had gone to her concert. I looked up this album and turns out it swept the Grammys, which is kind of crazy. The album seemed pretty simple, and was nice to listen to. Some songs were kind of boring but nice vibes. Low 4.

A few really good songs and a bunch of solid ones

Oh wow, I'm a sucker for a beautiful female voice and jazzy melodies, aren't I?

**Album Review: *Come Away With Me* by Norah Jones** Norah Jones’ debut album, *Come Away With Me*, released in 2002, stands as a seminal work that blends jazz, folk, soul, and pop in a way that has resonated with listeners across generations. The album, which won eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, introduced Jones as a major new voice in contemporary music. This review delves into the album’s lyrical content, musical composition, production quality, thematic elements, and its lasting influence on the music industry, while also providing a balanced assessment of its strengths and weaknesses. ### **Lyrical Content** The lyrics of *Come Away With Me* are characterized by their introspective and often understated nature. Jones, along with other contributors like Jesse Harris and Lee Alexander, crafts songs that are deeply personal yet universally relatable. The lyrics frequently explore themes of love, longing, and melancholy, but do so in a way that avoids melodrama. Instead, there is a quiet, reflective quality to the words, making them feel genuine and heartfelt. For instance, in the title track "Come Away With Me," Jones sings, "Come away with me in the night / Come away with me and I will write you a song." These lyrics capture a sense of intimate invitation and romantic escapism, wrapped in a gentle simplicity that is both evocative and tender. Similarly, "Don't Know Why," one of the album’s standout tracks, explores feelings of regret and confusion with lines like, "I waited 'til I saw the sun / I don't know why I didn't come." The straightforwardness of the lyrics belies the complexity of the emotions they convey. One of the strengths of the album’s lyrical content is its ability to evoke strong emotional responses without resorting to overly complex or obscure language. The simplicity of the lyrics allows listeners to project their own experiences onto the songs, making the album feel personal and accessible. However, some might argue that this simplicity can sometimes border on being too simplistic, lacking the poetic depth or narrative complexity found in other genres or works. While the lyrics are effective, they occasionally risk being seen as too safe or predictable. ### **Musical Composition** Musically, *Come Away With Me* is a masterclass in subtlety and restraint. The album’s sound is a seamless fusion of jazz, blues, country, and folk, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements Jones’ smoky, understated vocals. The arrangements are sparse but richly textured, allowing the music to breathe and giving each instrument space to shine. The instrumentation on the album is predominantly acoustic, with piano, guitar, double bass, and drums forming the core of the sound. The use of these instruments is meticulous, with each note and chord carefully placed to enhance the mood of the songs. For example, the gentle piano on "Don't Know Why" is both haunting and soothing, perfectly complementing the melancholic tone of the lyrics. Similarly, the slide guitar on "Cold Cold Heart," a Hank Williams cover, adds a touch of country blues to the mix, highlighting Jones’ ability to navigate different musical genres with ease. The album’s melodic structure is another strong point. The melodies are memorable without being overly catchy, which suits the reflective nature of the songs. Tracks like "Turn Me On" and "The Nearness of You" are prime examples of this, with their lush, jazz-inflected melodies lingering in the listener’s mind long after the album has finished playing. However, the album’s reliance on mellow, mid-tempo tracks can also be seen as a limitation. While the consistency of the sound is one of the album’s strengths, it can also lead to a sense of monotony for some listeners. There is little variation in tempo or intensity, which might leave those looking for more dynamic shifts feeling underwhelmed. ### **Production Quality** The production on *Come Away With Me*, handled by Arif Mardin along with Craig Street and Jay Newland, is nothing short of exceptional. The album has a warm, organic sound that enhances its intimate feel. The production is clean and uncluttered, with a focus on clarity and balance that allows the nuances of the performances to shine through. One of the standout aspects of the production is its emphasis on Jones’ voice. Her vocals are placed front and center in the mix, with the instrumentation serving as a delicate backdrop. This approach works well given the nature of the material, as it allows the emotional subtleties of her performance to be fully appreciated. On tracks like "Seven Years" and "Lonestar," the intimate production draws the listener in, making them feel as though Jones is singing directly to them. The album’s production also reflects a high level of attention to detail. The placement of instruments in the stereo field, the use of reverb, and the balance between the different elements are all carefully considered, creating a cohesive and immersive listening experience. For example, the subtle use of reverb on Jones’ vocals adds a sense of space and depth, without ever feeling overpowering or artificial. However, some might argue that the production is almost too polished. While the clarity and warmth of the sound are commendable, there is a certain level of risk aversion in the production choices. The album is impeccably produced, but it rarely ventures into more experimental or raw territory, which could have added an additional layer of emotional intensity or unpredictability to the music. ### **Thematic Elements** *Come Away With Me* is thematically rich, with recurring motifs of love, loss, and longing woven throughout the album. The songs often explore the complexities of relationships, from the joy of new love to the pain of heartbreak and the bittersweet nature of memory. One of the central themes of the album is escapism, as evidenced by the title track "Come Away With Me." This song, along with others like "Shoot the Moon" and "Nightingale," speaks to a desire to retreat from the world, whether into the arms of a lover or into the solace of nature. There is a sense of seeking refuge from the harshness of reality, a theme that resonates with many listeners. Another prevalent theme is introspection. Many of the songs on the album, such as "Feelin' the Same Way" and "Painter Song," reflect on personal experiences and emotions, often with a sense of quiet resignation or acceptance. The lyrics and music work together to create a mood of contemplation, inviting the listener to reflect on their own experiences and feelings. The theme of nostalgia also runs through the album, particularly in tracks like "The Nearness of You" and "Turn Me On," both of which are covers of classic songs. These tracks, along with the overall vintage feel of the album, evoke a sense of longing for a simpler, more romantic past. This sense of nostalgia is further reinforced by the album’s jazz and blues influences, which harken back to earlier eras of music. However, while the album’s themes are relatable and effectively conveyed, they can also be seen as somewhat limited in scope. The focus on love and introspection, while beautifully executed, leaves little room for exploration of other topics or more complex emotional landscapes. As a result, some listeners might find the album’s thematic content to be a bit narrow or repetitive. ### **Influence and Legacy** *Come Away With Me* has had a profound influence on the music industry, both in terms of its commercial success and its impact on subsequent artists. The album’s blend of jazz, folk, and pop helped to pave the way for a resurgence of interest in these genres, particularly among younger audiences. Its success demonstrated that there was a market for music that was understated, soulful, and rooted in classic traditions, at a time when the music industry was dominated by more commercial, pop-oriented sounds. The album’s influence can be seen in the work of many artists who have emerged in the years since its release. Musicians like Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae, and even some aspects of Taylor Swift's work can be traced back to the style and approach that Jones popularized with *Come Away With Me*. The album’s emphasis on authenticity, emotional honesty, and musical craftsmanship has inspired a generation of singer-songwriters to pursue a similar path. Moreover, *Come Away With Me* has also had a lasting impact on the recording industry itself. The album’s success helped to shift the focus away from heavily produced, radio-friendly singles toward more organic, album-oriented projects. It also proved that there was still a place for jazz-influenced music in the mainstream, leading to a renewed interest in the genre among both artists and listeners. However, while the album’s influence is undeniable, it can also be argued that it set a standard that has been difficult to match. The sheer success of *Come Away With Me* created high expectations for both Jones and other artists in the genre, and not all have been able to live up to the bar it set. Additionally, the album’s smooth, polished sound has been both a blessing and a curse, as it has sometimes been associated with a trend toward more conservative, less adventurous music in the singer-songwriter genre. ### **Pros and Cons** **Pros:** - **Lyrical Simplicity:** The lyrics are introspective and relatable, allowing listeners to connect with the songs on a personal level. - **Musical Composition:** The album’s blend of jazz, folk, and blues creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that complements Jones’ voice. - **Production Quality:** The production is clean, warm, and detailed, enhancing the intimate feel of the album. - **Thematic Consistency:** The album’s exploration of love, longing, and introspection is both effective and emotionally resonant. - **Influence:** The album has had a significant impact on the music industry, inspiring a new generation of artists and helping to revive interest in jazz and folk music. **Cons:** - **Lyrical Simplicity:** While the lyrics are relatable, they can sometimes feel too simplistic or safe, lacking in depth or complexity. - **Musical Monotony:** The album’s consistent mid-tempo, mellow sound can lead to a sense of monotony, with little variation in tempo or intensity. - **Production Safety:** The production, while excellent, is almost too polished, avoiding any risks or experimentation that could have added more emotional intensity. - **Thematic Narrowness:** The album’s focus on love and introspection, while well-executed, leaves little room for exploration of other themes or emotions. - **High Expectations:** The album’s success set a high standard that has been difficult for both Jones and others in the genre to match. ### **Conclusion** *Come Away With Me* is a remarkable debut that has left an indelible mark on the music industry. Its blend of jazz, folk, and pop, coupled with Norah Jones’ distinctive voice and the album’s understated production, has made it a timeless classic. While it may have some limitations in terms of lyrical depth and musical variety, its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. The album’s influence continues to be felt, and its themes of love, longing, and introspection remain as resonant today as they were upon its release. In summary, *Come Away With Me* is a masterfully crafted album that offers a rich, emotional listening experience. Its success is a testament to the power of simplicity, authenticity, and musicality in a world that often values flash over substance.

Nice way to start the day

really good, could be a 5 but Fiona better so we'll go 4, even though that's an awful way of doing these rankings

The authentic Starbucks sound

I like her voice. Great style. Very soothing

Ah yes the music that made me think "maybe I'd like jazz" because I liked the four ripped songs I had and did not yet know the wide scope of what people call "jazz" Don't really like jazz, do kinda like this album. Have listened to it before and will again. 3.5

I thought I only knew the singles, but apparently I've listened to it more than a few times because I know most of the other songs. As someone wrote in the comments, when you are 20 years old you feel that this is boring, lounge music, but when you are approaching fifty you suddenly realize that you like Norah Jones and her silky voice. Maybe this is elevator music, but it fits so damn well on a hot summer August evening...

Really good. This album could do with a bit more of the variety featured in later albums (“Little Broken Hearts” is my favorite of hers), but there isn’t a bad track.

Pretty, silky jazz pop. Definitely exceeded my expectations when I thought this thing was just gonna be another early 00’s pop album

Beautiful silky voice, and chill yet sophisticated music that doesn’t overpower. I remember when this came out, and I didn’t give it much of a chance.. still not my favorite but enjoyed more than I thought. Standout songs ‘Don’t Know Why’, title track ‘Come Away With Me’, ‘Turn Me On’ 4/5

I get it - it's a bit boring. But I enjoyed it, and in the end, I'm the dictator of these ratings...

Quite moody but I liked the vibe. Nice to listen while making coffee in the morning in a rainy day

Nice and relaxing, i could sleep ...ehm... work to this!

Quite a pleasant voice. Really chill in the background

I never knew who Norah Jones was admittedly but this was quite lovely to have on. Her voice is very soothing and the instrumentals are good. It’s obviously not rock or upbeat in anyway so reviews comparing it to that are way off base. Songs like the long day is over are very emotional! It’s good

Listen more

Nice easy album to go away with Norah. Nothing to really hate and she has a real nice voice and some van maur moods. Rounding up

Smooth song stylings of a honeyed voiced vocalist. Shoot The Moon is a great track.

This is not the style of music I usually listen to, but it's very well produced - much more sparse and subtle than I'm used to, but it works. Jones' voice is beautiful, and very different in a good way. Liked songs added: - Don't Know Why - Nightingale

Nice vocals

slow and relaxing nice album to let your mind wander

Love this album (I own it) her voice is so amazing and sensuous...

I like Nora Jones's vocals, chilled, uplifting. Positive dinner party music.

It was just nice

Pleasant

While not something I’d normally listen to, this is a solid album. Pleasant relaxing mood for evenings or anytime you want to take a break from your day.

Even though Don't Know Why was played to death on the radio and in 2002 I was subject to my parents playing the radio all the time, I did always like this song and I still think it's a beautiful song. I had never listened to the rest of this album. This record was so wonderful and easy to listen to. I loved several tracks. Turn Me On really caught my attention. It has a really similar chord progression, and vibe to It Hurts Me too. Could be a fun song mashup haha. Nightingale had a really great jammy sounding bit that also caught my attention.

This album is incredible. I want to say its overlooked and underrated, but then it did win Album of the Year in 2003. And honestly, it deserved it! The blues, jazz, folk, all around Americana elements of this record are brilliant. Great song writing, great composition, great instrumentation. I love when an artist creates exactly what they want and it gets recognized. Which is probably why I think this record is overlooked. It got a lot of buzz, and acclaim in 2003 and then everyone kind of moved on. It never really fit in the indie rock / indie folk genre and its not really a pop album. Norah just made a record that absolutely crushes and she made it for herself. It reminds me a lot of John Baptiste. Incredible musician, incredible songwriter carrying on an American tradition of music making.

Nice laid back. Not complicated music here, but great musicianship, and strong vocal performance by Norah. A lot of talent shown here

Her best album for sure. A little slow overall for me, but very good.

beautiful

Didn't listen all the way but what I did hear was beautiful

nice and relaxing. let norah jones set you right nolan

Not anything I would normally listen to. Beautiful voice...great album.

Gem of an album, just a joy to listen to.

This is THE Brunch album. It's quiet, gentle, pop-jazzy. Perfect for its time, but definitely got played out. "Come Away With Me" is a beautiful song - I just can't stand listening to it anymore! (Which is sad)

Typically not my vibe but her voice is wonderful and the energy on this album is surprisingly fun. Will definitely come back to this one

An album full of love songs. Very mellow listening. Good for listening to on a quiet morning. Great voice and emotional songs.

Enjoyable listen. Norah's voice is beautiful and emotive. The band lets her run with it. Just a timeless sound. This album would be just as successful if it came out today as it was 22 years ago.

heel chill

Some great interpretation of standards and originals.

On the one hand, it's kind of sweet pabulum. On the other hand, it's great for what it is.

Relentlessly pleasant and easy to listen to, but not exactly challenging and not jazz. The playing is thoughtful and genteel and wispily light-touch, almost impeccable. The breathy vocals seem just about right and suit the production, instrumentation and material just about perfectly – a bit anodyne, yes, but perfectly pleasant (that word again). Perhaps the Hank Williams cover is a little ill-conceived, being the opposite of dark or haunting. There’s a reason everyone liked this record, and it was played ubiquitous in the early aughts. That mass popularity and accolades – which seemed to surprise the artist as much as anyone, she who seemed to just want to play music – is exactly what gave the record a bad name with critics. That she seems to have been widely ignored ever since seems appropriate punishment for such success. To be clear: it holds up, however is reluctant to admit liking it in certain company. One wouldn’t mind hearing her do some Shankaresque ragas some day.

A really pleasant listen. The band backing Jones is very tight and allow the vocals to shine. I was only really familiar with 'Don't Know Why' but there are a few standouts on the album, though that song is still my favorite. I think this is a good background album. Its completely inoffensive and harmless. Nice to listen too. That being said, its also not the greatest album of all time. Nothing too mind-blowing, just nice. FAVORITE SONGS - Don't Know Why - I've Got To See You Again 4/5

Soft Jazz, Country, 2002 -> 4

Norah Jones deserves to be on this list with this album. Come Away With Me is an important album and probably one of the best albums of the 00's. She has a new take on jazz, soul and does something groundbreaking: she has hits in the zeroes with simple songs (with instruments and her voice). This album does feel a little bit outdated though and it does not click enough for me, so that's why I give 4 insteds of 5 stars. My 11th album

Beautiful voice real soothing to listen 2

Песни немного однотипные, но тембр и владение голосом прям нравится

I wonder what the reception to this album would have been had it come out after Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" instead of four years earlier. I'm not certain the reception would have been quite as rapturous. But make no mistake, this is a lovely jazz vocal album. If she'd come along later -- I can hear tracks on here that likely would have been pushed in an alt-country direction. As it is, it's a really nice listen.

For those of us who remember “Don’t Know Why” being everywhere back in the day, the rest of the album proves that Norah Jones earned her accolades. Silky smooth and reminiscent of gentle summer rain.

Pretty good.

Love her sound, so easy.

Sweet and gentle.

Fourah Jones. Does what it says on the tin.

Really surprised by and loved this. I thought I didn't like lounge or lounge-adjacent sounds, but I was wrong. Lots of good songs on this record and the instrumentation is stunning. The arrangements were wild. I forget which one, but towards the end there's a guitar panned right with a quarter-note delay that's panned left and it's doing some Garcia-like shit. Very inspiring and did a huge lift for the song with something really simple. Fan.

What a crooner! Lovely voice and dreamt music

Beautiful voice and good music.

Beautiful singing paired with interesting instrumentals

Pretty damn good. Some songs kinda lag on, but there's a few bangers on here. Great voice, great song writing.

Good enough, hot

It's feel good music. It's not revolutionary or mind-blowing, but it is good, very good. and that's why it's on this list.

I knew some of these songs from various movies and radio stations from a while ago but this is my first time really listening to Nora Jones. Phenomenal singer and the music is easy listening. It tends to be generic love songs which was my problem with some other pop singers like Frank Sinatra, but overall it's a good sound. Don't Know Why, Feelin' The Same Way, and Painter Song were my favorites here.

I don't understand the comments about this being "Starbucks music." Then again, I've never been to a Starbucks, so take that as you will. To me, to wit: this is fine easy listening/adult contemporary music - jazzy, with hints of western and blues. Incredibly smooth and easy on the ears, almost to a fault, but Jones's voice is flawless. It's slow, but not lifeless.

Damn, this album brings me back to childhood.

Cosy music. Easy listening most enjoyable

Relaxing

Tres relax.

I like Norah

Norah Jones played on repeat in the dining room of the kitchen I used to work at in high school. 4/5 for nostalgia.

Such a mood.

Beautiful but not the best workout music.

Amazing voice. In a vacuum these songs are all 5s. But as a collection, maybe not quite enough variety.

Already knew how much I loved her voice, which is the standout of every track. Musically not that complex and a few of the top tracks are covers, but I could listen to this all day long. Again, easy listening is a positive!

Very nice

Can’t deny I have a soft spot for Nora Jones voice. Was between a 3 and 4 here. The review that said “Starbucks created this album in a test tube” made me laugh. No ignoring this album’s mild mannered coffee house vibe that defined a moment in the early 2000s. But it is well produced and I always find it listenable.

I'm not a wine drinking suburban housewife, but there is no denying the excellence of this.music. Really a beautiful album.

falls off towards the end. First half of the album is genius it just starts to sound similar after awhile. Favorite track: Don't Know Why, Shoot the Moon

the songs in this album all sound the same sleepy rhythm

Excellent album! Amazing, sparse arrangements to accompany a beautiful and well-trained voice. Not really my style but excellent background music for relaxation. 9/10. Heard before: ‘Don’t Know Why’, ‘Cold Cold Heart’, ‘Come Away With Me’, ‘Turn Me On’

Perfect rainy day music. Not something I'd necessarily go back to, but it was a pleasant listen and Norah Jones has a lovely voice. 3.5 rounding up to a 4. Not my favorite version of The Nearness of You, though (Steve Buscemi's is still my pick for that).

It's a good start for her career, but she has gotten even better over the years.

I liked this much more than I thought I would.

so chill and easy to listen to, though the songs sound similar. I'd never listened to a full Norah Jones album before and this was a pleasant surprise.

אלבום מאוד מרגיע, אחד שנותן הרגשה כל כל טובה. נורה חוזרת אל היסודות של מוזיקה שכבר פחות עושים בתקופה שהאלבום יצאה. אלבום כל כך כיף.

I only got the chance to listen to it once, but I want to listen again because I really liked a couple of the songs. (standout songs so far: feeling the same way, seven years)

Perfect Sunday morning type of singer — wish I would’ve saved it for then instead of Friday

A few months ago I would have dismissed this album as probably good but not for me. However, firstly I’ve recently begun to become interested in jazz largely has a result of listening to artists like Melanie De Biasio and streaming algorithms pointing me in the direction of Norah Jones. Secondly, I spend a lot of time searching out second hand CD’s in charity shops and the like. You can almost guarantee that this album will be on the shelves of every charity shop selling for pennies. So having bought it I learnt that it was an excellent album ideal for quiet listening with a glass or two. Very relaxing but also a beautifully made album showcasing her enormous talents. I have now began collecting all of Norah’s albums which are very varied in musical content as she has developed but this album remains my favourite. I can only assume that because this album sold in astronomical numbers is the reason why it is so common in charity shops but the album is worth tons more than for what it sells for and is a bargain.

Quintessential Norah Jones. Overall great tunes, although some are not that special. Highlights: Turn Me On, Don't Know Why, Come Away With Me

"Don't Know Why" is already in my favorited songs playlist. Happy to see what else is on this album!

Oh lovely

Really nice and soulful music for calm down moments or just to chill

beautiful voice! amazing

Wonder what it feels like to have a voice like that

Ja, jeugd sentiment. Haar stem is echt fantastisch. Heerlijk rustig, soms een beetje repetitief, maar alsnog errrrug goed

A good voice and good music.

Great adult contemporary record. Love love Norah Jones' voice — so soothing and so smooth, accompanied by great musicians, who were just as much of a treat to listen to.

great stuff. especially on a rainy day

Erg mooi maar beetje te rustig en slaap verwekkend. Maar er zijn zeker momenten wanneer ik hier erg graag naar luister

Pretty good when you’re in the mood for something mellow

7/10 - 4/5 Really pleasant listen. Very well made, soothing, lightly sensual. Not my usual style, but very enjoyable.

Great artist Great voice. Has developed into a terrific star. Pop, jazz, contemporary, she does it all.

Beautiful but melancholy

Good but overplayed unfortunately

This is one of the cutest albums ever, so much joy and tenderness.

Mellow, very laid back. Beautiful voice. Perfect soundtrack for making French toast on a Sunday morning.

Nice and calm. Acoustic pop/jazz. Nothing too fancy or exciting, just lovely music and lovely singing

I had written off Norah Jones as something you would hear in the background of a coffee shop, so I was surprised to like this album as much as I did. A lot more depth than I expected.

Excellent singer/songwriter/musician. Sleepy-time music though

This caught me at the perfect time: a snowy day spent relaxing at home

Such a beautiful record, and I shamefully have to admit to never hear anything from here, besides her hits. But, this was remarkably good! Very good written songs, with a great focus on musicality, but her voice also stands out very much! This is just great music to put on in the back and ease out to. Standout tracks: Don’t Know Why, Cold Cold Heart, Come Away With Me, Shoot The Moon, Lonestar, I’ve Got To See You Again, One Flight Down, Nightingale, The Long Day Is Gone, 8,5 out of 10

Very good album to listen while working or studying, Norah Jones voice is calm and relaxing

Solid chill

great vibes for Figaro on a sleepy sunday!

A nice really chill album. I've heard only one song by Norah but with this I am a fan. A really nice voice couples with an excellent blend of genres makes it cozy music to just have hot chocolate with. 9/10

Her voice already deserves my 4-star rating; even so, this is very far from her more recent releases.

Enjoyable but very slow. I got halfway through and had to take a nap. Norah's voice is orgasmic.

I used to listen to Norah Jones 15 years ago, this brings back memories. Such a beautiful voice and delicate songwriting.

I don't think this is a 3 but I don't think it's a 4 either. Very good album though. I'll go with 4. Good job me.

I like it, it is clearly very good, I just can never picture myself in the mood for this kind of thing. Which is funny because I'd be really into just hearing the backing band for a whole record.

I'm not much of a fan of jazz vocalists, but Norah Jones REALLY knocked it out of the park with this album. She seamlessly merges several different musical genres in several of her songs, with great arrangements and her unique bluesy voice.

A soothing pleasure from tip to toe, every time I listen I forget my troubles and just be.

Nice to listen in a soft mood
