Reviews (page 4 of 14)

So lucky to have grown up with the Beatles and artistes of that generation, compared with the relative drivel of today. 18 when this was released just regret not being more into music at that time.

Total genius with just the right level of madness. Somehow presages everything that has happened in rock music since. Favourite track: Helter Skelter

Album 5/1001 Some of their most interesting work on here including my current favourite song of theirs, Happiness is a Warm Gun, which I'm embarrassed to say I only recently discovered a few months ago. So refreshing to hear a great Beatles track which hasn't been played to death already. ⬜️ Favourite song: Happiness is a Warm Gun 😊 ♨️🔫 Honourable mention: While My Guitar Gently Weeps 🎸😢 Helter Skelter (not for the same reasons as Charles Manson) 🧔 Dear Prudence ✍️ Long, Long, Long⏳️⏳️⏳️

I’m not the biggest Beatles fan, but this album is filled with gems. Incredibly expansive and really runs the gamut. Some real all time greats (“Dear Prudence”, “Blackbird”, “Helter Skelter”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” “Revolution” to name a few) Couple of silly clunkers (“Piggies” for example) that I don’t love, but on whole objectively hard to give this less than a 5. Glad to have listened to this one all the way the through.

It’s the Beatles. It’s a double album. It’s got some absolute all-timers on it. Think “Back in the USSR”, “Dear Prudence”, “Blackbird”, and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”.

Why not a triple album, boys? Come on! We want more!

I listened to this album the day my cat died. 10/10

This album is INSANE. It swings wildly from pop to acoustic, blues to folk, classic rock to experimental. Such great range and BIZARRE sense of humor. "Wild Honey Pie"?? "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Moneky"?????? Don't even get me started on "Revolution 9", I love when crazy stuff like that is peppered into an album. Wow, it's bonkers, and I love it.

It's the White Album, what else needs to be said?

My favourite Beatles Album

My third favourite Beatles album.

I wonder how would I look at Beatles, if they were a contemporary band. Would they be perceived as a boysband?

It's the Beatles. A great albim with songs that have influenced generations.

The Beatles! Seek no further.

Robust!

This album has some of the all time best Beatles' songs (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird), but also some of the worst (Bungalow Bill, Wild Honey Pie). Also I think this is the most experimental Beatles album despite not really having any complex string parts, backwards masking, or any crazy studio tricks. There are just so many different genres and styles, weird songs, and insane song writing. I am also a Revolution 9 defender, I just think it is a really cool sound scape. For a while, this used to be my favorite Beatles' album, but the length and the 2nd half of disc 2 do drag it down just a tad. (This is also my 3rd 5 in a row, something I haven't done since 500+ albums ago, so lets see what we get tomorrow) Mid 5.

Classic for a reason

Eclectic. Yes, there are weaker tracks but the good stuff is more than in most shorter albums.

Yeah just awesome

It's the fucking White Album! It's not their best, but I love it dearly. Fully half the songs I sing my toddler to help him sleep are from this album. I own an original US pressing from 1968 and this will always have a special place in my heart. Number 9 indeed!

# Album Name: White Album # Artist: Beatles # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Fantastic album. The range of styles is amazing. The track list, albeit never ending, is actually very strong. It does taper off on the 2nd disc but still its great. Biggest detractor for me is the length. # Top Tunes: Plenty of bangers # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Fantastisk album. Får fem stjerner fordi den har nok sterke låter til å forsvare det. Etter min smak burde albumet vært kortere og enkelte låter tatt bort. Favoritt låter er blant annet While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, I Will, Dear Prudence, Julia, Helter Skelter, Revolution 1, Back in the U.S.S.R

How can you rate an album with Back In The U.S.S.R, Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I Will, Julia, and Helter Skelter anything less than 5 stars? The White Album is a long stream of consciousness of an album that has everything from epic rock power, to delicate folk tunes, to silly ditties, to abstract sound collages. It doesn’t really have a flowing theme, but it contains some of the most creative work from the greatest band of all time. I even like Rocky Racoon!

I was honestly so excited to get this album today because I grew up on the Beatles and recognize them for their musical genius and sheer impact on the modern music world. However, I honestly tried to approach today's project as if I had never heard the Beatles before. I probably would have marveled at how different all of the songs on this massive album are. They honestly sound as if they have completely different personalities and styles and indeed they do, which is one great way to glimpse the individual personalities of the songwriters and singers. Yer Blues and Why Don't We Do It In the Road are two examples of their solid bluesy style , but then you get the honky-tonk piano of Rocky Raccoon, the bouncy, playful, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Harrison's wicked guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps along with its hypnotic sound and vibe, the simplicity and sheer beauty of Blackbird, and the sweeping orchestrations in many songs, especially evident in Good Night. Music critic I am not much to be said which I am missing here but this is when casual observers take on just how incredible this album is from start to finish. I would probably have also remarked that some of the stuff is just super weird, and I might have (accurately) guessed that there was a fair amount of drug-inspired/influenced content on this album. I might've remarked that in some ways, the album due to its track differences, lacks sheer coherence as an album, but further listens would prove to me to be quite wrong, and when taken as a whole, The White Album is a solid beginning-to-end coherent masterpiece. There's a reason these guys have been labeled musical geniuses and a reason they continue to impact artists today. Yes, they're worth all of the hype and this is the first album I have rated five stars in quite some time.

While not my favorite Beatles album it is undoubtedly a masterpiece.

Look I'm not the biggest Beatles fan, but I'm also not a psychopath to rate this anything less than 5. Obviously some classics on here, like Blackbird. Also enjoyed Back in the USSR and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. Generally enjoyed side 1 more than side 2.

The Beatles never clicked for me until the first time I listened to the White Album. It’s so musically disjointed in the best way. Blackbird is beautiful, Helter Skelter is rough and abrasive, yet it all somehow works together. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is my favorite Beatles songs and high up there for any artist.

A double album?!? Not a promising start. Back in the U.S.S.R. is a good start though. Every track on this album has its own Wikipedia page, that's insane. Dear Prudence is a good album track. Even as they were falling apart, they had some playful songs. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is my favorite Beatles song, I wonder if that has anything to do with Clapton on lead guitar? Happiness is a Warm Gun is another great song. I love Blackbird. Rocky Raccoon vacillates between goofy and melancholy and it works perfectly. Julia is a beautiful song. The album is good if a little uneven. Going from Julia to Birthday as someone changed the records must have been a shock. Helter Skelter is the most overrated Beatles song of all time which puts it in the running for most overrated songs ever. Revolution 1 is good, Revolution 9 is awful. I wonder how many bands that loved the Beatles turned to these stupid "found sound" songs/albums because of this song. Good Night is the totally incongruous end to a pretty incongruous album.

An iconic album, even with the mix of gems ("While my Guitar Gently Weeps," "I Will", "Good Night") and uneven songs ("Wild Honey Pie" and "Why Don't We Do it in the Road").

I mean .. it's The White Album

Brilliant album with such a wide diversity of styles

very nice

Classic - one of the top Beatles albums IMO

Stone-cold Beatles classics sit alongside novelties and avant-grade oddities to create one of the most eclectic albums ever produced by a mainstream group. Not every song here is a banger, but there’s so many to choose from that you’re bound to find something to love.

Yesss! Second Beatles album of the list. Back in the USSR: So FUN. Dear Prudence: Love the faraway feel of this, incl. the effect on the voice making it sound like a phone call. Glass Onion: Not bad - love the spooky strings at the end - sounds like a 50s horror film. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da: Reminds me of Castle Park. Sweet but too overplayed. (Always love the "ring!" and "sing!" ad libs though). The harmonies on "la la la la how the life goes on" are quite reggae which I'd never noticed before. Honey Pie: Listen I have my limits, even with the Beatles. Buffalo Bill: Fun - love the falsetto, and the way it ends so abruptly aka crashes into the next song. While My Guitar Gently Weeps: Incredible. Sounds like a mellow but vaguely ominous drug trip. Happiness Is A Warm Gun: The verse sounds bizarrely modern, like 2000s indie music - think Metric. Martha My Dear: One of my favourites of theirs - sometimes sweet, sometimes ominous as it switches so quickly between minor and major chords - so many cool key changes too. Love the timings - so unusual. Love the strings. A masterpiece. I'm So Tired: Nice - always wished it stayed with the dreamy nature of the start though. Blackbird: Never liked this as much as the rest of the world. Hard to pinpoint why. Same whimsical tune as 'I Will' yet it doesn't impact me emotionally in the same way at all. I like the tune and harder sound of the "into the light of the dark black night" bit and the instrumental guitar that follows it (and the blackbird itself singing). Piggies: So much fun. Love the harpsichord and Kinks-esque ironic tone to his voice. Rocky Raccoon: Great - reminds me of Jack of Hearts in terms of western story-telling songs. Love when it speeds up suddenly and the honky tonk piano kicks in. Don't Pass Me By: Don't remember this one - it is fairly forgettable, to be honest. Why Don't We Do It In The Road: I mean what is there to say. At least they're having fun. I WIll: One of my favourites. So sweet but such an unusual tune. Julia: Sweet. Poignant guitar. Love the unexpected timing change kicking off the final refrains, and the odd final chord. Birthday: CLASSIC. WE WHACK IT OUT FOR EVERY BIRTHDAY WE HAVE. Some Lyla-level relentless drumming! Yer Blues: Don't remember this one either. It's fun, which is surprising as I usuall have no time for the blues. Love the timing on "girl you know the reason why" and the rhythm change that starts at about 2:10. Mother Nature's Son: So incredible good. Wistful and sweet. Love the unexpected bluesy last line and unexpected ending chord. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except For Me and My Monkey: Fun. Sexy Sadie: Cool tune. Helter Skelter: Fun. Love the drumming leading in to the chorus. Forgot about the premature fade out before the end. "I'VE GOT BLISTAS ON MY FINGAS!" - classic ad lib. Long, Long, Long: Gorgeous and dreamy. Revolution 1: Very good. Honey Pie: Love the 40s sound to this. Savoy Truffle: Fun, especially the harmonies. Similar timing in parts to The Word. Cry Baby Cry: Sweet. Didn't remember this one, ESPECIALLY the pivot in genre at the end! Very cool - would have liked a whole song in that style. Revolution 9: I sat through this once on my quest to listen to every Beatles song released and once is enough. Good Night: So sweet and old-fashioned. A great end to the album.

Not the best album by the Beatles, but definitely five stars.

What to say about this one that hasn’t been said. What does it lack? Hits? Musicianship? Lyrics? Production? A variety of song styles. Nope, it has it all.

Genre: Pop Rock In all my years of being a fan of the Beatles, there’s only one album that speaks to the true capacity of their talents and efforts, in my view: The White Album. An all-encompassing, all-you-can-eat style record that was the first of its kind. Albums had more than just “songs” on it up to this point in music history. In fact, The Beatles were forerunners in terms of changing what an “album” was, even going as far to create an entire new concept band in Sgt. Pepper’s. But then, they changed the form again. Within the contents lie a true mixed bag of Beatles sorts. You have every flavor imaginable: Paul’s granny songs, John’s psych rock, George’s emotion bombs, even a couple solid Ringo joints, including his first solo song credit, Don’t Pass Me By. You get it all, and most of the time it’s amongst their all time best. Dear Prudence and Happiness Is a Warm Gun are two of John’s best ever, as are Paul’s Martha My Dear and Helter Skelter. George comes in swinging as well with While My Guitar Gently Weeps, probably the albums most famous song, a classic in every sense of the word. An album that wears its faults on its sleeves, only for it to show that what’s surrounding it is some of the best music the 60s has to offer. A great fucking album. 5/5

Fucking great from beginning to end. Glad to listen to it all in one go. Such a good album.

Probably my personal favorite Beatles record. It shows them at their most whimsical and creative.

Cover 5 My favorite. Great. Nuff said.

I’m from Liverpool so I might be biased but the Beatles are the most impotent band of all time and the white album shows why.

Nothing to be said other than hasn't already been said

Obviously AMAZING!!!

This is the first Beatles album I really fell in love with as a kid. I liked the Breeders' cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun and went through my dad's records to find the original, and pretty much the entire album resonated with me. It's not perfect, there's definitely several tracks that I will skip through, but aside from those few this album just kicks ass. 4.5/5

Really is something truly special

Great songs! Some clunkers. Still sounds great.

Kanske inte deras tightaste album med tanke på antalet låtar, men imponerande hög medelnivå och många riktiga klassiker!

This is one of my favorite Beatles albums. I love so many of the songs on this album.

Absolutely brilliant. 5/5. Number 9, Number 9, Number 9.... Ok that one, Revolution 9, has always been a bit odd, but I've grown to love it. The whole album is classic - full of amazing songs.

Probably their most diverse record musically. It’s a classic for a reason.

I had a CD of Beatles 1 when I was a kid, and didn’t really think much about the Beatles in general, I figured I’d heard the hits and didn’t need to delve any deeper. That is, until I heard this record. It’s the first Beatles record I really connected with, and it’s still my favorite. It’s got it all really. It’s got songs you feel like you’ve known all your life, like “Birthday” and “Rocky Raccoon”, then there’s weird stuff like “Savoy Truffle” (this George song is about Eric Clapton hating the dentist but loving sweets) and “Long, Long, Long”, you’ve got Paul at his most Pop radio with “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da” and “I Will”, and John at his most raucous with “Yer Blues” and “I’m So Tired”. This is The Beatles trying to shake things up, just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. The experiments mostly pay off, like “Happiness is a Warm Gun” and “Piggies”, but then there’s “Revolution 9” which isn’t really anything resembling a song, but I guess that’s the point. My favorite records tend to be the ones with many small parts that make up a whole. I’m also a sucker for the double album as an art form (See my Blonde on Blonde review). I also love how some records are full of songs that all sound different, but they form a cohesive whole because of the little world that the album creates. This ticks all the boxes for me. It’s great. Oh, and did I mention that “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is here?

No hace falta ni comentarlo. El disco al que le tengo más cariño de The Beatles.

Good Night is the greatest album closing song of all time

My second favourite Beatles record, after Abbey Road. Some of the songs are very experimental, some are just classic Beatles. But it's a very well put together album.

This album is too long but it is still an all time classic. 5 stars very enthusiastically.

can't be unbiased about this one. i adore this album, even with all of its quirks and bizarre choices and its notorious musique concrete behemoth. as a huge beatles fan, this album has always fascinated me. it is a fascinating look at a band that is starting to fracture. john and paul aren't really working with one another anymore and it's plain to see here: there's not a lot of co-mingling in their songwriting and there's a lot of "solo" work here, production and performance-wise too. ringo quits the band. george martin leaves abruptly on vacation. john is like, doing heroin and stuff. yoko is here and the other beatles don't really like it. they just got back from a crazy meditation trip to india. this album is hell for the beatles and it sounds like it. but that's why i love it. it's not a perfect album. it's quirky. it's weird. but that's what makes it great to me. the world's best band making a fractured all over the place album. there is no other album like it.

Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine

ja krasser scheiß. Sehr abwechslungsreich und cool und ja. Super Sache.

I want to ding it points for how not cohesive it is, but honestly that lack of cohesion almost IS the cohesion for this album. Plus, it just has so many insanely classic songs. I can't help but love it.

One of my favourite albums. This is the result of a band who's given complete freedom in the studio, and decide to pursue whatever they wanted musically whether as a band or not. So you can hear the tracks which are basically McCartney solo tracks, Lennon solo tracks, Harrison solo tracks. So in a way you can also hear the beginning of the end of The Beatles as a unit.

Their ninth album. I am actually emotional writing this. The White Album ! A collection of different styles of song, wonderful poetic lyrics, sounds that were grounbreaking at the time and a production from George Martin that is flawless. This is an example of a perfect album. Too many amazing tracks to write about here. I'll never tire of this album. It's as magical now in 2025 as when I heard it years ago as a child. Best album thus far !

Duh, but MAN is disc 1 better than disc 2

If this Album i wouldn't have been here i would question this list. It is a historical album but for me it really is underwhelming. it is well written and a important part of music history but the only tracks i remember are the hits. it is interesting that an album with like 2-3 real big hits has such a enormous impact. It don't feel that accessible.

One of my faves!!

A wide-ranging album, with so many sounds explored. A bit weird that their songs are so isolated from each other, but it really shows where each of their mindsets were musically at the time.

The only double album that ever needed to exist and even then, it's only 75% great.

Yes, it is a VERY long album, but the truly amazing part is how the time flies while listening to this record. There are so many incredible songs on this double LP that the few (possible) missteps can be easily forgiven. Not just an album you must hear before you die - this is an album you must own before you die. 5.0/5.0: Iconic

not the best beatles album by a long shot but still better than 85% of the albums on this list. this album has some of the best individual tracks by the beatles but they are brought down by the filler songs that inflated the album length. the filler songs aren't even bad, but we didnt really need bungalow bill with while my guitar gently weeps right after it. this is an incredible album buried inside a good, very long one.

4.5 stars Finally got a Beatles album. And what an album! An album that is used as a reference point whenever a band experiments with different styles. But the reason it is known for that is because it is perfect at being that. This isn’t random shit thrown together for the hell of it, this is separate wonderful bits put together into something that should work but somehow still does. It’s not actually perfect- how many times can one listen to “Revolution 9” in its entirety? But its imperfection is kind of what makes it perfect.

Really shows how acid can positively transform people.

I’ve lived with this album for so long that it’s hard to even think about it clearly sometimes. It’s like an old friend who’s weird, unpredictable, sometimes a bit much, but always welcome. I don’t listen to The White Album for consistency or flow. I listen to it because it’s one of those albums I know that actually feels like real life. It’s messy. It’s brilliant. It has dead-ends and detours and moments of beauty that sneak up on you. I used to skip certain songs when I was younger, but I’ve grown into most of them. It’s that kind of album — one that shifts with you over time. I’ve always loved how this record refuses to be one thing. One minute you’re in the middle of something as beautiful as Blackbird or Dear Prudence, and the next you’re thrown into chaos with Helter Skelter or Yer Blues. It doesn’t care if you’re ready or not. That’s part of the charm for me. It’s like the Beatles opened up all the doors in their heads and just let everything pour out. Some of it’s nonsense, some of it’s genius, some of it is both at once. I find something new to like almost every time I put it on. The songs I didn’t understand as a teenager like Long, Long, Long, Mother Nature’s Son, even Revolution 9 (ok maybe not that one ) but they have grown into more listenable favourites along the way and time. If I’m really honest, I think this Beatles album is the least controlled and it's one of the things that makes it such a good album. It feels human but in away where the seams are showing, but that just makes it more real. You can hear them pulling in different directions, filled with idea after idea in multiple genres and somehow it still works. I love how it doesn’t try to be perfect but somehow just is. It just throws everything at the wall and lets you decide what sticks and then after maybe a few listens or a few years you notice everythings stuck to the wall. I’ll always be grateful for how generous this album is how much it gives you to dive into. It’s long, it’s flawed, but it’s alive and there's a lot of artists who could still learn a lot from this album about keeping things organic and gimmick free and let your music do the talking for you. No flashy cover, no massive pile of story led lore or mysterious personnel. just 4 lads a bunch of instruments and the ability to write catchy interesting songs...

yeah it was pretty good very long though but yes you know it is very good as i expected my favourite songs were:while my guitar gently weeps, happiness is a warm gun, i will, and long long long.

I don't listen to this album as much as other Beatles records because it's so long, but what a listen. Such a diverse album and so many good deep cuts too.

They almost split making this too bad they didn’t. 😔

I mean it's one of the greats isn't it. Rocky Raccoon top 5 Beatle song

Are there words that can describe The White Album?

this album is so complex and beautiful - so many famous hits and such diverse styles of music. It's really a pinnacle album.

The GOAT!

A classic!

C’mon, it’s the bloody White Album.

I already loved this album but great excuse to listen again.

C’mon

Aqui é possível entender a definição de clássico: como um álbum desses ainda tem tanto a falar...perfeito!

5/5. I kind of go on stretches of listening to music all by one band and then move on. So the White Album is something that just mixes in with my Beatles discography listening experience so it kind blends in with the other albums. Listening to it solo, without the context of the Beatles in general, it really is crazy this album was released. Like sure, the Beatles were influential, but it feels like they invented like 10 genres here. It's not even that the songs are all good, it's just impressive that they were able to throw all these ideas together. It does feel like a series of throwaways made into an album so it can be a little much after some time of okay songs, especially near the end of the album. Although as a whole album, I don't think this is the Beatles' best or even one I would recommend, but it is just a wholly influential album on every level that it is hard to deny its importance. Best Song: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Rocky Raccoon, Back In The U.S.S.R., Blackbird

This was the Beatles animal phase.

4.6 2x+ listened a few times while in Las Vegas, going through Red Rock Canyon and others. catch up 12/11

Not even my favourite Beatles record but nonetheless an essential part of the Western pop canon. So much has been written about this album that it's like pouring water into the ocean to join in. However, here are some notes about the album that you should consider: This is a double album. It sags much less than when other bands attempt them, but settle in. These guys were basically a boy band when they broke out in (arguably) February of 1963 -- only five years before this album was released. That they played their own instruments was not even a given at the time (singers fully in the pocket of the record industry have been around forever) but the stylistic restlessness that they exhibited in their short career (1960-1970) demonstrates not just a phenomenal musical curiousity but also an immense talent for digesting genre music. On top of that, the Beatles remain profoundly musical and enjoyable throughout their various genre dalliances and they may be what convinced rock musicians that rock & roll could subsume any influence. They must also have been terribly aware of what was happening in diverse other musical scenes because they aped everything going in The White Album. The Beatles were so taken with Pet Sounds that they felt themselves in direct competition, artistically, with the Beach Boys at this point. You can hear the direct reference on Back In The USSR. This album was disruptive. Helter Skelter is one of the many, diffuse roots of punk rock, nine years later. Watch Peter Jackson's documentary about their last sessions. They're busy trying to record Let It Be, but you get an impression of how disorganized and shambolic they could be in the studio, despite how polished they are often perceived to be in retrospect. Also, the amount of times that one of these guys (mostly John) would hum a half-finished idea for Paul and then McCartney would extrapolate it into something beautiful boggles the mind. This isn't a masterwork in the sense that it's an incomparably polished monolith of craftsmanship beyond mortal reckoning. It's an essential classic because it represents a feverish and wild creativity that forever marked Western popular music. Much like The Beatles themselves, this is just a whorl of concentrated magic in the great, smooth continuum of sorcery that is music. Also, the guitars sound absolutely great. Buy a Vox AC30.

Amazing songs, but the album is like a mixtape, or a radio. 5 stars.

144/1089 - So much variety with a faint underlying eerieness connecting everything together. I think of the stupider songs as pallete cleansers (Wild Honey Pie into While My Guitar Gently Weeps) but I honestly enjoy them too.

Easily one of my top albums all time

GOAT. Enough said!

Uhh... what do I even say? Well, I guess this would be a good take to start: I don't think The White Album is the greatest Beatles work. It's a mess, but even a mess from The Beatles is a sample of genius, it's undeniable. I much prefer Abbey Road as a whole album, but here we have The Beatles as the confusion they were in their final years - raw and sincere, and yet, they are able to come up with While My Guitar Gently Weeps! Do you see what I'm saying? While My Guitar Gently Weeps! Sacou o que estou tentando dizer?

One of my all time favorites

I don't think this is as good an album as Abbey Road, but it is a more definitive showcase of why the Four are as Fab as they are. Eccentric lyrics compliment the group's legendary songwriting, and the production still sounds fresh almost 60 years later. if you don't like revolution 9 we can't be friends Favorite tracks: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Dear Prudence, Rocky Raccoon, Revolution 9

9/10. Não é o melhor deles, porém tem algumas das melhores músicas. Álbum clássico, bem dançante.

unquestionably one of the greatest double albums of all time. this one still holds up.

All time classic

Ah I’ve been waiting for this. Looking forward to listening despite the fact the previous Beatles records I listened to did nothing to change the fact that they really do nothing for me. Revolution 9 was a waste of 8 minutes. That all said I really dug this one. Like really dug it. Can I say I understand their brilliance now? No. Loads of great songs and the songwriting spoke to me this time. Based on my enjoyment and the legacy, this is 5 stars. Amazing it’s sandwiched between two other legendary records.

Planting the seeds for the future of music

The walrus was Paul

1968. One of the most gorgeous albums ever from a sound engineering standpoint. There is a sinister nature to this album. There's playfulness, there's a mean aggression, there's true delusion as well. It can be somewhat dissociative and maddening. It's perfect like that. It feels like being lost, it feels like a dream. You close your eyes and wake up in a new time, a new area, surrounded by weird characters, blink again, wash rinse repeat and you're in front of Rocky mothafuckin' Racoon. Its magic. It's a perfect, haunting, fucked up trip that takes you by the shoulders and rattles you the fuck around like some kind of dumb lost kid. The rock songs are impeccable on all fronts. The 'pretty' songs are truly pretty in an idealistic utopian way, like a lot of beatles songs you know. The skies are perhaps too fine, too blue. Butterflies abound. Maybe that's just the effectiveness of writing truly happy songs though, and that happiness can feel pretty damn surreal and freakish at times. What a trip. After many decades, this album is still so strange and other-wordly. The magic schizo Son of my other favorite beatles album, Sgt. Pepper. You like drugs? Bang bang shoot shoot. Goodnight. Life is but a dream?

It is my favorite Beatles Album

i get it now!

Overall, this a great album. There is so much to choose from and, while some songs are stronger than others, it really is a great collection of songs. I did not care for "Revolution 9" - too avant garde for me.

- ..... really? -

I wish I could give it a 6!

It's the "White Album". Nuff said.

When the world started transitioning from LP's to CD's, this was the first CD I ever purchased. I recall balking at the price of CD's at the time so this was a safe buy since I already knew that I loved it. This could very well be my favorite Beatles album and if not that, it's definitely in my top 2 or 3. Maybe it's because it reflects more of who the Beatles were as individuals more so than as a collaborative unit even though the songs were performed as a band. This album has one of my favorite song transitions of all time, the transition from Bungalow Bill to While My Guitar Gently Weeps. This is a great album and an easy 5.

While this is not my favorite Beatles album it is fantastic none the less. The eclectic nature of the songs presented here highlights the fact that the band was coming apart. It is collection of songs that the members were working on individually but they were still able to produce an excellent album supporting each others music.

One of the CDs we had in our car in HS so has a special place with me.

Classic for a reason. So many brilliant tracks. Just beloved.

Assuming the lead vocalist is the principal songwriter, this album clearly shows how much better John Lennon was than Paul McCartney as a songwriter/artist. Back in the USSR, Blackbird, I Will (sorta), Mother Nature’s Son, Helter Skelter, were good but the rest of McCartney’s compositions were pap. Compare his output to Dear Prudence, Glass Onion, Happiness Is a Warm Gun, I’m So Tired, Yer Blues, Everybody’s Got Something to Hide, Sexy Sadie, and Revolution 1, and it’s no contest. McCartney was good at novelty and a catchy tune and that added to the Beatles popularity and influence. But Lennon made the Beatles transcendent. Even the two song where Lennon and McCartney share lead vocals – both of which are very good – Birthday [McCartney with Lennon] and Cry Baby Cry [Lennon with McCartney] reveal Lennon’s superior talent. Hell, on this album Harrison’s contributions were more significant than McCartney’s.

The White Album... Ohhh the White Album. How can you rate something you have listened to 1000+ times? This is the first Beatles album that has been served to me, so I should at least try to be objective, right?? Truth is... I can't. I love the White Album, flaws and all. Sure I frequently skip songs like Piggies and Revolution 9. Sure it is criminal that Not Guilty and Sour Milk Sea weren't included on the final track list. But hey, that is what the deluxe remaster is for! All in all this double album highlights all facets of Beatles music, from the grunge Helter Skelter and Happiness is a Warm Gun, the ridiculous Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, the loving I Will and Julia, and everything in between. The White Album has something for everyone and will continue to be a timeless hit for me. There is more I can write, but nothing else that hasn't already been said by someone else. 4.5/5 stars!!

Should have put something on the cover tbh

I mean…it’s the White Album

Top 5 Beatles Album

One of their greatest!

Objectively probably not 5, but I just really like listening to it

Wat een album 30 liedjes waarvan misschien wel 8 bekend zijn en super goed zoals: Back in the USSR Obladi Oblada I'm so tired Blackbird I will Helter Skelter etc.

OVERALL: First Beatles album I've heard (unless Band on the Run counts). This is long, really long. It's not the longest album I've listened to, probably not even in the top 10, but it probably has the most tracks. Disc 1 has very high highs, but is otherwise consistently good (outside of Why Don't We Do It In The Road?). Back In The U.S.S.R., Dear Prudence, Glass Onion, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Blackbird, I Will, and Julia are the standouts from Disc 1 in my opinion, but the rest are fine. As for Disc 2, it's much more consistent outside of the clear bad songs. Helter Skelter is the clear best from Disc 2, but Revolution 1 is pretty good too. I prefer Disc 1 due to the higher highs, although I feel like Disc 2's consistency is a lot better than Disc 1's. The problem with this comes from the lack of a connected idea throughout this album, but I don't really mind it. The OTHER problem are the warcrimes known as Revolution 9, Wild Honey Pie, and Why Don't We Do It In The Road?. Also, some songs should not have been placed next to each other. I see why this is so praised, and I do love it, but it is flawed. Still a 5 though. SONG AVG: 8.1224/10 PERSONAL RATING: 8.75/10 Back In The U.S.S.R.: It's way too short for how good it is. It's just really good at everything it tries to do, although the airplane sounds are pretty weird. 9.5/10 Dear Prudence: I really like the bass on this song for some reason. It's defninitely worse than Back In The U.S.S.R., but not by much. I only kinda don't like the main guitar. 9/10 Glass Onion: It's so good and then the recorder comes in and its so goofy. Pretty solid, although there are some awkward parts (especially the end). 8.75/10 Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da: I think the first time I've heard of this song was on the worst songs Wikipedia page. It isn't bad, but it's not close to the level of quality of the previous songs. There are some parts that feel kinda stupid, but it sounds good overall, I like the brass instrument. 7.75/10 Wild Honey Pie: nope. doesn't count. (if it did it would be a 1.5/10) INTERLUDE/10 The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill: Pretty catchy. The tempo changes are a bit jarring, and the other voices aren't that good, but it is fine. It's pretty childish and I dislike the ending, but it's also very catchy. 7/10 While My Guitar Gently Weeps: Eric Clapton is so good. Great songwriting, incredible melodies and just absolutely fantastic in every way. Except for the fade out outro I guess. 11/10 Happiness Is A Warm Gun: WAY too short for a three part song with much more key changes. No flaws with this one other than the last part maybe. 10/10 Martha My Dear: This is about a dog? Pretty charming and overall quite good, although it is a bit generic. 8.75/10 I'm So Tired: PLEASE make these songs longer, this is practically an interlude. Pretty good, although a bit underwhelming compared to the previous tracks, but way too short. Barely over 2 minutes. 8/10 Blackbird: I thought this song was longer. Great messaging, and pretty catchy. The instrumental is pretty, but also not really that interesting. The bird noises are certainly a choice. Other than that, way to objectively good to be less than a 9/10. 9.25/10 Piggies: Once again, way too short. Great instrumental break, and the message is pretty solid, but it feels like this should be way longer. 9/10 Rocky Raccoon: Kinda goofy, but I guess it's good? The story is fine, but the vocals are definitely questionable. Good instrumentals. 7.5/10 Don't Pass Me By: Good, but not great. I have the same birthday as Ringo, and I can see why people think he's the worst Beatle. Pretty good, but not at the same level as most of the other songs written by the others. 8/10 Why Don't We Do It In The Road?: Nope, but this time it's an actual song. This was inspired by monkeys having sex, and the lyrics are just the title a bunch of times. Unfortunately, it sounds good enough to be given a not horrible score. 3.75/10 I Will: Very beautiful, very short. DEFINITELY should have been longer, barely 1:45. It's so good, incredible melodies. 9.5/10 Julia: Very sad, I'm sure I would like it a lot more if I knew someone well that died. Even then, it's really good at everything it does. Great outro to disc 1. 9.5/10 Birthday: WHY IS THIS RIGHT AFTER JULIA??????? Also, not that good. Very high energy, I like the main riff, and the break is nice, but the vocals and lyrics aren't for me. The outro is pretty cool. 6.75/10 Yer Blues: This is nice. Above average all around. 8/10 Mother Nature's Son: Beautiful, great atmosphere. The horns are a great addition. Very dreamy. 9.25/10 Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey: Long title name, very raw playing. Such a banger, great bass. It is pretty simple, though. 9/10 Sexy Sadie: Insane that this is a diss track to the fucking Maharashi. Really good, great guitar. 9.25/10 Helter Skelter: The way this song sounds does not look like how a helter skelter looks like. I did not expect to hear metal(?) on this album, especially considering the only metal album I've heard I didn't like, but I really like this one. Goes pretty hard. I GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS 9.8/10 Long, Long, Long: Why is this right after Helter Skelter? I feel like the random drum fills shouldn't work, but they do. The instrumental is fantastic. How are there 6 more songs on this god damn album. The outro is weird as hell. 9.5/10 Revolution 1: I've heard horrible things about Revolution 9, but this is good. This is probably what I expected from a Beatles album, good in about everything despite dragging on for a bit. I can't really think of any flaws except for the shoop-dee-doo-wops. 9/10 Honey Pie: This is really good background music. It definitely is "granny music", but it is pretty good. 8/10 Savoy Truffle: Carried so hard by the guitar, nothing else really notable other than that this is about Eric Clapton. The lyrics are funny I guess. 6/10 Cry Baby Cry: Really decent. That's it. Can You Take Me Back is cool I guess, but this is just a fine song. 5/10 Revolution 9: Oh no. I listened to this with headphones to really understand the praise behind this album, and was fearing this song to see what everyone was so scared of. What the Yoko Ono Frank Zappa is this? Why did they do this? How do I even talk about this musically? I've heard MUCH better sampling from rap producers like Kanye West, MF DOOM, The Avalanches, and more, so I guess I can say that. I can't think of anything good about this, honestly. 0/10 Good Night: I don't know if this is as good as I think it is or if it's just because it's right after Revolution 9. Great lullaby, Ringo's vocals are great. So ethereal and dreamy. 9.75/10

This album is eclectic. It's like you threw the Beatles in a lab and said go play and this is the result. I think it doesn't actually work as an album. It's more a collection of individual songs, but I guess they're so disconnected it actually works as a cohesive incohesive work. Does that make sense??? Liked Songs Added: The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill Happiness Is A Warm Gun I'm So Tired Blackbird Why Don't We Do It In The Road? I Will Yer Blues Mother Nature's Son

Starting to like these guys

they was fucking great when they're fighting

A joy to experience.

What probably is my fav beatle album at this monent just because of the range and versatility they display. Heavy rock, ballards, country western, electronic expeimentation, pop, blues, absolutely everything you can want. Its so unpredictable that it can be listened to in any order of the 3 Vinyls. Its 3 records in one. Revolution, happyness, rocky raccon and my guitar gently weeps. This is a must listen and own for every human being alive. This has to be one of the top 10 finalist for best album ever recorded. To me its a top 3

I didn't get to bed last night I started to listening to this. Endless listens. Yeah okay I learned later how they were fighting terribly and playing was weird, but I was on my own (well with my friend and fellow Beatles obsessor Steve) for all the repeat listening without tv or music press, so it was just a Beatles album for us, every note inscribed on the brain before too long. Okay to be honest we skipped Revolution #9 many but not all times. Yeah we thought the album was weird, different, but brilliant weird different. Yeah they were on their way out but even on their way out they are better than every other band ever. Ever.

One of the few vinyl records that I've owned multiple copies due to being played all the time.

I love this album. Always have. For a band whose creative arc went from "I Want To Hold Your Hand" to "Come Together" in a mere six years, it's hard to call out anything as specifically "experimental" as their entire career was an exploration of songwriting, production, and recording experimentation (not to mention religion, drugs, etc.). Yet, I'm inclined to call this the band's "experimental" album because of the sprawling, intimate, "small" production elements that make it sound unlike anything else in the band's catalog — it's a true outlier. Everything McCartney brings to this album is incredible, from the simple, beautiful "Blackbird," "I Will," and "Mother Nature's Son" to the careening "Helter Skelter" and evocative "Do It In The Road" ... and I'm leaving a half dozen classics off the list. This is my favorite of Harrison's offerings — "Savoy Truffle" and "Piggies" (brilliant!) are among my favorite of his songs. Ringo's drumming on "Dear Prudence" is so unexpected — he does the same in "Long, Long, Long" ... fantastic. And I can remember the feeling I had the first time I heard "Dear Prudence," it gave me chills back then as it does now. The sequencing of this record, the odd twists and turns, fucking "Revolution 9" turn me on dead man... I want to go on, but I think you get it. Perfect? Nope. But fearless and strange and such a statement about where the band was at the time it was recorded. Relationships strained, band in turmoil, lost and found in India ... I love this album.

Yesterday we had Rumours. Today we have this. I'm sensing a theme. Not sure what I can add to the conversation except to say that this is the best-sequenced album ever. Every song perfectly flows into the next, which shouldn't be possible given how disparate and wacky these tunes are. The less-good songs work like pillars holding the loftier tunes up to the heavens. It's perfect, but if any song were displaced it would bring the whole thing crumbling down. Oh, and let me make the case for Revolution 9. I love this song. I think it's incredible. It's not noise, it's music. There are motifs and themes and callbacks. There is structure and dynamics, and the energy ebbs and flows. It's practically hummable, and it always thrills. And I love how much of disc two feels like it's leading you there, with songs that deconstruct themselves (Helter Skelter, Yer Blues, Long Long Long and the snippet Can You Take Me Back Where I Came From). And not only is Rev 9 so great and so inevitable, but then they follow that up with the catharsis of Good Night, which again is such perfect sequencing, but in hindsight makes you wonder how they could have pulled off such a magic trick. [Also, be sure to check out Revolution (Take 20) to hear where so many of the elements of Revolution 9 came from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku6HXL9RqHQ ] I know I said that Revolver is my favorite, but sometimes this one is because there's so much to enjoy, and I'm always discovering new things. (Today's discovery was the delicious anti-solo on Yer Blues.)

An album that grows with you. What a wild experience it is to grow old with The Beatles. I feel sorry for people that go through life not having these lads through all their eras. Now that I learned Martha My Dear is about Paul's English Sheepdog, my beloved Tophee has a new tune that follows her around on our walks. I remember so vividly walking down worn stone steps near the Bremen cathedral in West Germany as Blackbird played on my Sony Walkman. A more profound listen smacked me hard when my kids were babies and I nursed them to sleep with Blackbird playing in my head and whispering out my lips as I inhaled their heads. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill was a goofy tune I didn't pay much attention to in my youth but in adulthood remember Michaela telling me how Soen was obsessed with the song. Tragically, the sexiness of Happiness is a Warm Gun quickly turned unfathomable to imagine after John's murder. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da was a college singalong once upon a time but now I laugh so hard remembering Adler as a toddler having a complete freakout in the car repeating over and over again his request for the tune. Revolution 1 still gives me the same goosebumps and amazingly I remember all the lyrics and sounds to Revolution 9 (so happy I listened to that on my headphones this morning). Brilliant move to open with Back in the USSR and close with Good Night. Every song tells so many stories that change over time and perspective. Brilliant. Thank you, lads. Indeed the gift has served me well.

Fantastisk album. Får fem stjerner fordi den har nok sterke låter til å forsvare det. Etter min smak burde albumet vært kortere og enkelte låter tatt bort. Favoritt låter er blant annet While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, I Will, Dear Prudence, Julia, Helter Skelter, Revolution 1, Back in the U.S.S.R

I’ve always loved everything about this album.

Bungalow Bill? Rocky Raccoon? Even Maxwell?* I love these funky guys. Album good for other reasons too. Cannot stand Revolution 9, even if I appreciate the skill involved. Bleh. *not this album but still true

Great album. Did not listen but have heard it a million tines

Not much to say about how great this album is that hasn’t already been said.

banging, veel muziek. soms begint het als een kinderliedje en dan wordt het ineens leipe shit

This is (I think?) only the second time I've sat down and listened to the full album in one sitting, the first time being at least 3-4 years ago. It's truly a beast of an album... a product that could only have come out of the turbulent factors shaping the band in the late 60s (Yoko's presence, India excursions, massive drug use, the overarching political & social climate, etc.) It's genuinely wild just how many genres they managed to pack into this release - from songs sounding like the Beatles of old, to classic blues, acoustic folk, and elements of psychedelia that must have blown listeners' minds in the 60s (unfortunately, one of them being Charles Manson).

I mean it's the motherfucking White Album

I definitely had to strap in for this one as it was a whopping 1 hr and 33 min compilation album by only the best, the Beatles. Good thing I was taking a 2 hour journey each way to the rmv on a foggy warm rainy day. This album was an experience. The shear range from the Beatles never fails to impress just based on who’s singing and the vibe they go for. There’s rock, acoustics, psych, and straight up weird. I got through the whole Revolution 9 without dying. I was excited to get a Beatles album in this process and this definitely did not disappoint.

I love every album made by the Beatles from 1965 to 1969 (Not a fan of "Let It Be"). Every song on it is a treat, even "Revolution 9"!. "Helter Skelter" might be my favourite song from the album. All four of the Beatles did a fantastic performance. What a perfect way to end the week. 5 stars for "The White Album".

I mean, it's a classic!

Super Dope

The Beatles’ magnum opus, arguably. One of the best and most influential albums of all time. I’ve listened to the Beatles all my life but even I forgot just how damn good they are.

I think this is my least favourite Beatles album*. But it’s got some bangers on it. And the worst things the Beatles ever did would have been the best thing if a million other bands. So it gets an easy 1000 but that’s less than the others. Also I love the fact the cover was designed to ensure that everybody’s album was truly personalised. *excluding bootlegs and stuff like magical mystery tour and yellow submarine.

Solid album

As a Beatles nerd, I’ve read a lot of people saying this would have been better as a single album, but I’ve never seen a track list I was fully onboard with. That suggests to me that a) one person’s filler is another person’s underrated gem and b) this album works so well because it’s a weird and wonderful collection, full of fascinating bits and bobs along with the undeniable classics.

a classic for a reason! a great mix of moods, arrangements, and sonic palates

The sheer breadth of this album, from the Ska rock of Ob-La-Di, to the folk style of Blackbird, to the Ragtime influenced Martha My Dear, to whatever the hell Revolution 9 is, give it a place among the greatest Beatles projects and among the greatest albums of all time. Favorite Track: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Magical and complex, weird and edgy. Feels like they got real free and amped up the tunes. Play it loud!

No words neeeeedd

Amazing

good job

Plus impressionnant que les pyramides d'Égypte.

Sure, it's all over the place, with a few lesser songs. But there are still more than enough absolute gems on this to merit five stars. Listening to this reminded me how good George's writing could be; I really love Long Long Long.

This is a top 5 Beatles album and therefore one of the best albums ever made, but more importantly it created a whole new type of pop record that countless artists have followed in the tradition of. I’m referring to the stylistically diverse and adventurous double LP (often with an understated album cover). So many great bands have their own White Album, but none are as impactful and iconic as the OG by the greatest rock band ever…THE White Album. Truly magical stuff.

Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9

One of the best in history

Timeless exceptional good!

Does serious and silly both incredibly well — no small feat. The breadth of approaches to songwriting and instrumentation are wildly impressive. There are some swings in here that don’t quite land, but the gems that DO result from the risk-taking are top notch. You can’t genre-band without breaking a few eggs. While this isn’t my favorite Beatles era, it’s undoubtedly earned its flowers. Listened to: walking around Brooklyn. Favorite tracks: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, Helter Skelter

An amazing double album from The Beatles whom need no introduction. 90 minutes of some of the catchiest and well written songs The Beatles have made 9/10 Favourite: Helter Skelter Least Favourite: Piggies

cinco diez mil estrellas

One of the most experimental and influential albums of all time. Great hits and good efforts all around

Masterpiece.

It’s perfection. I have heard every song on this album at some point in my life but I don’t think I have ever listen to it all the way through. It’s so lovely.

Another Monday, another Beatles album. You know, they were actually pretty good. But I refuse to take anyone who actually enjoys Revolution 9 seriously. Stop being pretentious. 5 Stars.

This album was in constant rotation in my early high school days when all I wore were classic rock band t-shirts from previous generations. I really haven’t revisited it much since that time because I overplayed it so much, but this is undoubtedly a masterpiece of an album. And screw the haters, Revolution 9 is magnificent! Favourite song(s): Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Blackbird, Rocky Raccoon, Yer Blues, Everyone’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey, Helter Skelter

An amazing album. And one I don't listen to often enough! 5 stars from me ... more if I had them!

Lots of genres All quality songs Some misses but that’s dependent on genre Great hits and genre creating tracks

This record is not brilliant in spite of being absolutely crackers and way too long. It's brilliant absolutely because it's bonkers and overlong, and it doesn't give a hoot. I keep wanting to mark The Beatles down for something, then I sit through another of their records and I absolutely have to hand it to them. This is the sound of an apex predator of bands, at the point in their development where they stopped caring what anyone else thought and just went gonzo. The idea-tap completely wide-open. Crazy good. Often, fame and money seem to dull artists in some way, shutting them off from the world, or limiting the creative spark that brought them to prominence in the first place. By some mad alchemy, these guys passed through that veil with the accumulated wisdom of a bunch of 60 year old veterans, while still being in their mid 20s and full of energy and appetite for risk. Hardened but not jaded (well, ok, maybe just the odd wee bit). Absolutely mind boggling. Track after track etched into your mind and barely a bum note. I am grateful for the existence of these lads.

Not listened in full for ages. Some stinkers but I still maintain that a single disc White Album would be arguably their best. This would be my track listing: Side 1: Back in the USSR Dear Prudence While my guitar gently weeps Happiness is a Warm Gun I’m so tired Blackbird Rocky Raccoon Side 2: Why don’t we do it in the road? Julia Sexy Sadie Helter skelter Revolution 1 Revolution 9 (has to be included!)

C’mon, like I’d give this any other rating.

Though it’s a bit all over the map and lacks album level cohesiveness there’s a ton of really great, hooky songs in here. My favorites include: While my guitar gently weeps Happiness is a warm gun Blackbird Rocky raccoon Helped shelter Revolution 1

I frequently question how many of the albums I’ve listened to made it to this list. But!… This album absolutely belongs on the list. Arguably one of best albums by The Beatles. Revolution 9 baffles me to this day. Don’t know what that’s supposed to be about! Could do without that song and Good Night.

I can only imagine how much this album freaked people out when it was released. It's a brilliant mish-mosh with absurd continuity that somehow works so very well. At this point it is so ingrained in to my brain that it feels like an old friend when I listen. It's got "Dear Prudence" for god's sake, how could it be anything but 5 stars?

Beatles always 5 stars

This one is my favourite Beatles album

Album 731 of 1001 Beatles - The White Album (1968) Rating : 5 / 5 I cheered in delight when I saw this was my album today. Top notch from beginning to end. Some feel it is all over the place but that is a big part of its appeal. Today I was really noticing Paul's bass throughout. Melodic, inventive, and deeply integrated with the songs, ranging from understated to explosive while acting as the song's backbone, in many cases. That was today's listen. Next time, I'm sure I'll notice something different. Certainly in contention for overall favorite. If, by chance, you haven't heard this album, take a moment and change that.

banger

Finally gave me the excuse to listen to this all the way through that I've been meaning to for the last few years. Back in the USSR and Helter Skelter are two of my favourite Beatles songs, so I had good hopes going into the album. It's clear when listening to it how influential its been, every song reminds you of something else. Even the experimental soundscape at the end was reminiscent of early industrial. Honestly, enjoyed the album, a bit too long for me, but lots of good songs in there.

It’s crazy that I know the songs but never heard them in context of an album. This is fantastic and inspiring. I’ve never heard “don’t pass me by” and I definitely missed out. Great song. I definitely don’t know the second disc as well as the first disc. Is there a modern Beatles? And not just writing songs but these sounds. They pushed the clarity of recordings. I just love “revolution 1”.

A real musical potpourri. Classic

The original untitled double album to knock your socks off.

Great John, Paul, George and Ringo album. Have long debated whether this gets a perfect score or not. So many amazing tunes but also a handful of major duds.

Julia made me stop and just watch the horizon. I have two options, I change my name to Julia or I fall in love with one. Whichever comes first

the track listing on this is completely deranged . I will after why don’t we do it in the road ?? Paul your silence on this is deafening

So many classic and very recognizable songs, so it's hard make any knocks against this album.

Fine, really good and what not, NEXT

Every song here remains a banger (except Number 9, eff that). Doesn't feel like the 2 disc set it is, although I could do without Yoko screaming.

I have to admit, I don’t often listen to enough of this album to get to disc 2. However, this is a double album that merits its length. It’s hard to imagine the following 50 years of rock/pop music without both discs. Good stuff.

C’mon, like I’d give this any other rating.

Chock full of great songs. The only misstep is Revolution 9. But as this is a double album, one song is not enough to drag it down.

the best album from the beatles i'm not lying

It's my favourite album by the Beatles for a reason, an amazingly creative album with so many different genres packed into it, and a mix of classic pop and rock songs plus avant garde tracks makes this an album well worth replaying

Probably one of the greatest albums ever made. So stylistically diverse, and a full gauntlet of emotions. Every time I listen I'm reminded of a new reason to like so many of the songs. A near perfect balance of everything you could want in an album

It's easy I'll give a 5 for every Beatles album heare. I now It's not considered a perfect album but it's perfect for me, as it is. And it contains some of the most best songs of all time.

There won’t be another album on this list that has as many bangers as this one does, albeit helped by the length. Pretty much the entirety of sides 1 and 2 are 10/10. Yes, sides 3 and 4 get a little more experimental, which is challenging for some. But where would we be if the Beatles didn’t do a little experimentation? It’s not quite Abbey Road in my opinion, but literally nothing is. Lacks the sheer perfection from start to finish that AR manages. But it’s certainly got a good claim for the #2 Beatles spot. Simpsons: Obvs

I came into this expecting to give it a low score, I'd listened to it a few times in the past and had written it off as interesting but not necessarily good. Listening this time I was waiting to get annoyed by it at some point but it never came. Revolution 9 isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but it did feel unnecessarily long. It's a good album, nothing felt like filler, and it's pretty influential. You get five stars, definitely belongs on this list.

Excellent album with a good variety of tracks. McCartney is exellent in this album, creating cute little ballads such as Martha My Dear and Honey Pie, but also some stomping tracks like Back in the USSR and Ob-La-Di. Harrison has always been my favourite Beatle, and it's nice to see him finally get (nearly) his fair share of the limelight in this album, with possibly the best song to ever come out of the Beatles, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, appearing on this album. Lennon's songs are nothing short of groundbreaking, as well. Happiness is a Warm Gun is a pocket symphony to rival the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations", while the tongue-in-cheek jab at ham-fisted blues artists, "Yer Blues" adds to the album's already colourful canvas. Revolution 9 is peak.

iconic

All over the shop. Not everything’s great, but the best bits put this to a 5 for me.

I always dock a star for double albums. Unless it's this or The Wall.

Even with some filler on it this is by far the Beatles most interesting album. Some absolute classics here. I could make some minor critiques for why its not perfect but it's much closer to a 5 than a 4.

Great!

One of my besties asked me what Beatles album do I like, then bought this album as my 14th birthday’s gift. And I’m soon going to be 16. memories. And man what can I say this is the best album that the beatles created in their whole career. 5/5

Come on now…

I imprinted on the Beatles as a kid, long after they had broken up. It was "Beatles VI", "Rubber Soul", and check this out: my cousin gave me "Sgt Peppers" by hiding in a bush on an Easter egg hunt. My name's still written on it in her girlish font. The White Album has occasionally been my favorite album. I used to assess my record collection annually, you see. This record topped the list a couple of times and has never been out of the top 25. Look, these days I could do without "Rocky Raccoon", "Revolution 9" and "Good Night", and "Don't Pass Me By" should be half its length. But my god, for a double album to have 26-1/2 tracks that I'm still not sick of after a ton of listens? Incredible. But, I'm biased. As I like to do, after I'm done writing and done listening I go check out other reviews. Everyone's entitled to their opinions of course, but some are seeing this record as only having a couple of good songs. To me, that's just plain nuts. Let's see: USSR, Ob-La-Di, Gently Weeps, Revolution, Dear Prudence, Blackbird, Birthday, all bona-fine pop-rock huge hit classics. Martha My Dear, Glass Onion, Mother Nature's Son, Long Long Long, Warm Gun, So Tired, Yer Blues, all revered. Helter Skelter is a candidate for the birth of heavy metal. Certainly it can be hard to take it all in at once, I guess. It's overwhelming. But still!

I mean, it's the White Album. I would feel bad for anything less than: 5⭐️

Already familiar with the album.

No one else could really do this, no point in saying anything having had this as long as I can actually remember. 5 Stars

the best beatles album

Genial con alguna canción discordante.

Just listened to this last week, but I'll gladly listen again. Only 3 throwaway tracks here (obviously Revolution 9, plus Obla Di and Piggies). Any Beatles album other than Yellow Submarine gets 5 stars from me.

Why are there so many Paul haters here? A stellar album that feels chaotic at times but it’s amazing journey.

9/10 Not being the best Beatles album is not a sin, still near perfect with some added weirdness. 2-27-2025

Absolutely stellar. The Beatles at the top of their game. Bloated, for sure, but even the bloat is good enough that I don’t mind. Better use of Stereo than most of their discography, though I still prefer the mono mix. Have always adored the bird field recordings on Blackbird.

Damn it

Classic

I have listened to this hundreds of times in my life, it is my best known Beatles album and it has so much to offer. Easy 5.

5.0 Ive said it before and I will say it again, who am I to critique the Beatles. This is my favorite Beatles album though. I just like how there are a few of some of the best songs ever written, and then some weirder tunes that are still wonderfully written.

Finally, some good fucking music While there are a few misses (Wild Honey Pie, Revolution 9) this album has so many amazing songs, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Rocky Raccoon, Yer Blues, Long, Long, Long and of course Blackbird

Certainly the Beatles strangest album yet it at the same time encapsulated everything they were about. Not my favourite Beatles album but still a classic 5*

Always a pleasure to listen to this album. I usually go straight to Abbey Road or Rubber Soul but often forget how diverse and sometimes even quite avant garde the White Album is.

Not just an album...an art event. Seems like it might be too long...but if you tried to eliminate anything, it wouldn't be the same. Just amazing songwriting.

I confess I didn't have time to listen to the whole thing today, but I filled in the gaps in my memory, and even allowing for side 4 it's still totally solid

It's a photograph of four friends going their own ways, some more willingly than others. It's also an album, a damn good one, the first Beatles album I fell in love with and the first record I bought on my own. It's a total mess. I love it.

Beatles

Too long but still The Beatles best album. First disc is especially impressive. Dear Prudence and While my Guitar Gently Weeps are both extraordinary

I really do think it deserves a 5. From the more popular songs to Wild Honey Pie and Revolution #9. It was groundbreaking for its time and today provides insight into the band's experimentation and creative processes.

Great album. One.of.there best.

A monument to creativity! Charles Manson

I have been big fan of the Beatles for the majority of my life. Accordingly, I’m coming at this review already biased. If I wasn’t listening for the first time, I think I would like these songs: Back In the USSR, O Bla Di O Bla Da, I Will, Martha My Dear, (all the Paul songs??), Blackbird, Birthday, Sexy Sadie If I didn’t love the Beatles, I would be rolling my eyes at and skipping these songs: Happiness is a Warm Gun, Why Don’t We Do It In the Road, Rocky Raccoon; Wild Honey Pie, Revolution 9, Everybody’s Got Something… Thoughts (trying to view this through a different lense): the range of the Beatles creativity is incredible. To think they arrived in America only 4 years previously (1964) singing Please Please Me and She Loves You (yeah yeah yeah). The shift, expansion, development in their artistry, dynamic, lyrics, music is incredible. That being said. I don’t think the White Album is a good introductory album to the band. Some of the songs get a little strange, alternative and perhaps, “something only a mother could love”. The mother in this case = those who love out-of-the-box stuff or love anything touched by John, Paul, George, and Ringo. I like that there is a broad variety of songs. You get Back in the USSR and Birthday but you also get Savoy Truffle and Long Long Long. The transition between songs as you listen to the full album is just lovely. As a Beatles fan forever (I certainly would have been one of those screaming girls with tears rolling down my cheek) I enjoy each song on the album, but these in particular: Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, While My Guitar, Martha My Dear, Rocky Raccoon, O Bla Di, I Will, Honey Pie, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Piggies, Blackbird. And all the rest of them!

You could cut 25% of it and still have two 5 star albums. USSR, helter Skelter, yer blues, me and my monkey, birthday - all monsters. While my guitar, mother natures son, blackbird, cry baby cry. Even all the silly McCartney story songs are enjoyable interludes. Didn’t wanna just blindly give the Beatles 5 stars every time, but…

I love the way the daft songs (Piggies, Rocky Raccoon, I'm So Tired) are sinister or have a sinister subject matter; the way it lacks the psychedelia of yesteryear but still sounds weird as fuck (maybe more so); it's sheer variety of music and genres; that it's a generous double album; the tales of the stormy atmosphere at some of the sessions; the mix of loud and quiet songs; the mix of silliness and seriousness; that it's a bunch of songs that sounds like it was recorded by grown ups. And I love the way it ends with a sinister nursery rhyme (Cry Baby Cry) followed by musique concrete (Revolution #9) followed by a lullaby (Goodnight); the abrasive Revolution makes the lullaby Goodnight all the more lovely. Revolver might be the best Beatles album on a song per song basis, but this is my favourite and my desert island Beatles choice. It's so different to anything else on so many levels and I never get sick of it. Single album? Pah, should have made it a triple and added some of the outtakes!

Great stuff

What an album

Just a phenomenal piece of work. Nothing is 100% perfect, but to have such a range of musical styles and so many songs that land so well in there is outstanding. Plus it always takes me back to a certain time and place in my childhood.

I own this on vinyl and love it. There are some tracks that are meh (eg. Revolution 9), but the vast majority of this album is absolutely perfect and I love it so much. Five stars, easily.

Day400 - a milestone album on a milestone day

Fav: Helter Skelter Least Fav: Revolution 9 Helter Skelter is the best Beatles song imo

maybe not my fave beatles by as great of a distance as i expected, but that was entirely a result of connecting so strongly w/ abbey road again...push comes to shove, this is still my queen. my rediscovery that this is not just exactly as good as i remember but having experiences Even Better then the ones i had as a teen thanks to the 2018 mix was unbelievable. this and revolver are The records that set the tone for my attraction to eclecticism, theres a straight line between these albums kicking my head open and pretty much anyone since ive ever considered to be my "favorite artist" (bjork, ween, devin,). but the white album in particular remains potent and engrossing for its perfectly orchestrated disharmony...while revolver's various styles are anchored by the band operating as a joyful unit, the white album manages the magic trick of stringing together clashing egos with a nearly subconscious dream logic that can only be articulated after a million listens but is dictating ur experience from the very first time. perhaps the best argument in history that in the world of albums, u hear the Structure before u actually hear any of the songs. and really, in the world of music, or art, or perception of the universe At All, every moment is enabled by every previous moment. something endlessly and eternally vital to my view of art and life in here. the watusi. the twist.

Even though there are some songs here that I don't care for, It is still undoubtably a 5 star or A album for me.

Un capolavoro

Odd and beautiful and fun. All the things that made The Beatles great

A ton of bangers that make up for some odder, yet comforting songs like Piggies.

имба.

Insert Tim Face

Probably one of my favourite albums of all time! Just way ahead of its time! Too many classics to name- although side 2 is phenomenal- I will, Blackbird, Rocky Racoon. I am guessing there will be more Beatles albums on the list…

This album was a fun surprise. I have always loved the song Blackbird, but I have actively sought out anything further. I personally loved the uniqueness of each song, and I downloaded both Piggies and Happiness Is a Warm Gun.

Have listened many times

While not my favourite Beatles album (this week), I love the White Album. Been a while since I listened to it from start to finish - it is a cornucopia of different styles and is therefore a little disjointed, but it is great to dive into - I even enjoyed "Rocky Raccoon" and "Revolution Nr 9" this time, and that's not always the case. There are some truly exceptional, wonderful songs here which come close to their best; the rest are rarely less than really good although it is true that by this time The Beatles were really operating as individuals, with little real collaboration in the songwriting. Things were starting to fragment, the indicators to their subsequent solo careers are evident, but what a soundtrack the breakup had.

Sometimes I'm glad I was a teenager when CD's became a big thing. For the first time they gave us the capability of instantly skipping certain songs without lifting a needle or awkwardly pressing FF/Stop/Play over and over until you got it right. If you're familiar with this album at all I'm sure you know what song on this one I'm glad I can instantly skip. Despite the presence of this one "song", this is still an amazing album.

Going strictly by number of bangers, this is the best album ever made

a game i like to play with double albums: cut it down and resequence it to 45 minutes. any singles, demos, outtakes from the recording sessions are fair game. here's my tracklist for the white album: 1. Glass Onion 2. Martha My Dear 3. I'm So Tired 4. Sexy Sadie 5. Don't Pass Me By 6. Julia 7. Revolution 9 8. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me & My Monkey 9. I Will 10. Cry Baby Cry 11. Why Don't We Do It In the Road 12. Happiness is a Warm Gun 13. Long, Long, Long 14. Hey Jude alternatively cut "revolution 9" into a few short tracks and put it in between tracks, rap skit-style. if you won't let me have "hey jude," replace it with "rocky raccoon" 3 times.

Classic. Incredible. How do you write so many good songs in so many genres. Top marks.

A disjointed cacophony but still One of my faves.

One of the best albums The Beatles ever put out, but still bogged down by some significant bloat. That’s not surprising since it’s their first double LP, but songs like Revolution 9 are enough to drop this a point or two. 9/10

I like all the tracks except the 2nd to last on disk 2, Revolution 9.

It’s The Beatles White Album.

Best double album PERIODT xx but the first side is significantly better than the second.. whatever they’re still good

Amazing album. Favourite songs: Glass onion, Happiness is a warm gun, I’m so tired, Piggies, Julia, Everybody’s got something to hide except for me and my monkey, Sexy Sadie. 5 stars

First, we have to acknowledge that the Beatles aren’t four lads from Liverpool, but four aliens sent here to enlighten us with their music. How else to explain the way they changed the world in seven short years? And it’s as if they were gonna show all the musical ways they had changed the direction of music through their previous ten albums in one sprawling, messy, gumbo slop of a double album. I do think it may have benefitted from some editing to make it a tighter single disc…maybe. While there’s clearly no singular theme with just about every musical genre represented in some form or fashion, the songs from all four songwriters (go Ringo!) are just so good. Except for number 9; I’ve tried to dig into its avant garde vision but I can’t do it. Though my favorite three Beatles’ albums can change daily, The White Album is always in the mix. The easiest of five stars yet.

Veel geweldige nummers, maar te lang en een paar mindere nummers.

Masterpiece.

One of my favs from one of the best bands of all time!

Itsarightinnit

Give this a 6. It's the Beatles init and anyone who says they don't like the Beatles is a crab. Blackbird is probably my favourite song ever, between that and yesterday anyway because they were the first songs I properly leant on guitar. After listening to the Beatles anthologys it gave me a new respect for some of the lesser tracks on here. This is a beast, inject it into my veins high 5.

Now we're talking. Don't even know where to start with this as it's just ridic the amount of invention and absolute bangers on this album. Songs were pouring out of them at this point to the point where quite a few sound like ditties or unfinished gems. Part of the charm of this album is the chaos that comes from it, especially the John songs. Standouts: Too many to mention but... USSR Dear Prudance While My Guitar Gently Weeps Happiness is a Warm Gun I'm So Tired Blackbird Monkey Helter Skelter Revolution 1 Lowlights: Revolution 9 is nonsense. The last few tracks on Side 2 don't offer much tbf As high a 5 as you'll get from me. Even with the silly nonsense, it's an insanely great album.

Double album 1968 (last one by the Beatles) Back in the USSR Obladi oblada Bungalow Bill While My Guitar Gently Weeps Blackbird Rocky Raccoon (6 of 17 tracks on disc 1) Birthday Sexy Sadie Helter Skelter (3 of 13 tracks on disc 2)

Such variety, such masterful songwriting. Even songs that are considered amongst The Beatles’ worst are still fascinating to listen to and lend to the album’s enigmatic quality.

Deeply emotional, made me think of a number of later musicians, has much love within, perfect guitar compositions as well and experimental and psychedelic stuff. The Beatles do amaze me, a remarkable masterpiece to embark on my musical journey.

I don’t have much to add for this album that hasn’t already been said the past almost 60 years, but I’ve long thought that if you just take John Lennon’s songs from this (maybe give or take Revolution 9) and put them on separate album it’d be one of the greatest albums of all time. The fact that all of John’s songs are surrounded by so many great Paul and George songs is insane. It’s not a perfect album by any stretch, there are possibly more skippable songs on the White Album than any other Beatles album on the back half of their discography. But the messiness is part of the fun and part of what makes it such an standout album in rock history.

Love this record! It has so many ebbs and flows but it ultimately makes the time pass while imagining this wonderful world that John, Paul, George and Ringo have created! It definitely has many classics such as while my guitar gently weeps, dear prudence, back in the USSR, revolution and many more! Love this, highly recommend being. Little stoned it makes the music flow very nicely 😋

Always a favorite. Never get tired of a good ol’ listen to this one.

Classic!

Most influential album of all time?

If they took the 10-12 best songs from this package and made one record, it would be an all time best selling classic. As it is it’s merely excellent, a showcase of their individual incredible talents.

Still sounds fresh every single time I hear it. Even some of the lesser songs add to the surreal vibes of the album as a whole. I’m always blown away by how perfectly it flows from song to song, always throwing something new at you, always staying fresh. 30 songs, many of which have a claim of being some of the best rock and pop songs ever written. God it’s so good.

I am a 1965 Beatles all the way, but it is so amazing to hear and enjoy their music and sound evolution on the later records.

Tremendous

This is a great album, even if it isn't my favorite Beatles album. The length isn't that bad, especially since there are a lot of good songs on here, but there are a few songs that could definitely have been left off (looking at you Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da and Why Don't We Do It in the Road). My favorite songs by side. This was hard because the best songs are on the first two sides. Side One: While My Guitar Gently Weeps Side Two: Blackbird Side Three: Birthday Side Four: Revolution 1

Good vibing album with some classics. Its not perfect – around 4.5, but it is above a 4 so I'm giving it a 5.

This has long been my favorite Beatles record. As I get older, it definitely loses its luster but I still love it. There are some incredibly weak tracks on here, and honestly a fun project is to re-sequence this record to make one really great LP rather than a double album with several peaks and valleys. Overall brilliant but not perfect by any means.

Barely went with a 5 on this one. It has some great songs but as a double album there are quite a few songs that distract from them.

Listened to this one so many times…hundreds, maybe. 5/5

Possibly my favourite Beatles album. It's incredibly eclectic and features some of the highest of high points and some real low ones (looking at you, Obladiblada). But the greatness of the great songs and the general feeling of a selection box of treats makes up for any possible faults.

In my view. The best album from this four pack.

Uneven as far as Beatles albums go...still a worthwhile listen. Dear Prudence and Blackbird are highlights. 5/5

An all time favorite

One of the greatest
