Reviews (page 12 of 14)
So much funky guitar on the first few, could listen to those forever. The ballads weren't my jam
The key changes and vocal production *chefs kiss* Hadn’t heard the non-singles before. 6.5/10, slightly better than ‘meh’, there’s better disco out there.
Meh, the two hits make it 3 star, would otherwise be 1 star
Super fun, funky and danceable.
Fun.
Album is quite a bop. The album started off with a banger with Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, very nostalgic. Reminds me of listening to Michael Jackson with my dad when I was small. I liked the chorus in Off the Wall, and many other songs. Cool effect with layered vocals. Also the whole disco (?) feel of the album. Very upbeat and fast pace of the songs. I like how boppy the slap bass is. I like this album. I feel like I would rate this album higher, but maybe I'm gravitating towards more pop/simple music now. But I can certainly see the appeal of this album.
Nice, funky, good deeper cuts
Opens up with 2 bangers, trails off a bit.
Thought I loved every song on this album but i didn’t. Still pretty pretty pretty darn good!
Good
Two songs are worth listening to
Only a few great hits. The rest I’m not sure.
Pretty cool to hear songs that I don't normally hear from Michael Jackson 3
Not listened in full to any of MJs albums before this - pretty decent but the hits are the best on the album by some way
I’ve wrestled with my thoughts on Michael Jackson for the whole of the 1001. But I’ve gotta finally review his three albums. Can they be separated from the complicated and controversial man? No. And they probably shouldn’t be. His life story, and the music industry’s role in it, is just as important to understand as the way he (and Quincy Jones) transformed pop and R&B music. I don’t want to blame everything on his father, or missing out on a normal childhood, or the pressure of stardom, or anything else. But it is important context to understand Jackson, and to understand his music too. The three albums on the list encompass the end of his childhood and emergence as a force not seen in pop music since The Beatles. “Off The Wall” begins with two hits, but after the first two classics it's a lot of unspectacular funk and disco influenced stuff. It was the end of an era for MJ and for 70s music, and he would follow it up with a decided pop turn on “Thriller.”
. This had zero redeeming qualities
Ranges from 2 star slow boring stuff to 5 star Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough. Ignore the Tom Waits review. Something’s up with the generator.
Awesome, but definitely less bangers than Bad, and not quite as distinct sounding
Still slaps .
Two absolute bangers. rest is ok. Minus points for having to think about Michael Jackson while listening to Michael Jackson.
I liked the first half. The second half was quite unpalatable for me.
Solid. Will definitely revisit several of the singles (Don't Stop, She's Out of My Life) but probably not the whole package.
Shows quite the effort as the first solo Jackson album departing from Motown Jackson 5 stuff. A landmark disco album to usher in the era. Obviously some very famous songs, but more interesting to me was who all contributed to write them.
Favourite songs: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Workin' Day and Night, Get On The Floor, Burn This Disco Out Least favourite songs: She's Out Of My Life, I Can't Help It 3/5
There's some big hits in here. The album in general is pretty nice, but it's not setting the world alight for me.
Pretty good great bass guitar and songs good not my thing really but I would listen to it again yeah
Ok pop
Its okay, it's catchy at times, it feels largely bland. It's not bad (pun intended) but just feels a bit safe and I can't ever think of a time where I will put this on again.
Classic Jackson
Sone good stuff here. Not a huge fan of disco. But when MJ does it, it does carry more weight. Overall all this is okay. I like some of the more pop stuff better.
Good but sort of overrated
Super well produced disco funk type album. That feels almost more like MJ finding his sound before Thriller/Bad. Not my usual haunt and a few misses for me but overall enjoyable
This is a pretty fun collection of dance music, the singles at the beginning are the best and it’s all pretty samey from there.
If you were hosting a dance party and could only play one album, this would be a pretty good choice. Unfortunately, I don't get invited to dance parties.
Not something I loved but it was a breath of fresh air after Daft Punk.
Album 117 of 1001 Michael Jackson - Off The Wall Favorite Track : Rock With You Rating : 3 / 5 Could go back and forth with this one. Could have gone with a ranking of 4 and lived with it. If I could do a 3.5, I would. There are some great songs on here and there are also some that are not so great. Hard to not compare it to what was to come next, for him. 5 of the 10 songs are worthy of a higher ranking but I'll stick with this for the album, overall. First couple of tracks do make one want to dance.
Funky and hard to predict the release date
Fun, king of pop...don't dance enough to listen to it all that regularly I think but enjoyed it.
Amazing production, but some of the songs and lead vocals is not as strong. Decent.
allegations aside, this album was fine. it's 70s/80s disco, which I'm somewhat lukewarm to overall, but I recognize the lasting contribution to American pop music that disco and MJ have had. favorites: rock with you, burn this disco out
Like most of MJ’s work it is well executed. Unfortunately, in this case, it’s just well-executed disco.
6/10
Classic bangers
Fun musically at times, some great tracks but never enough to displace uncomfortable thoughts about celebrating the music of the predatory nonce that he became. 3* for the music (let's face it, he's not the only musician on this list with a grim history).
I enjoyed the first and last funk numbers, but not so much the romantic soul. I can't reasonably drop my score below 3 stars because Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is so good. Well done, Quincy Jones.
Not the biggest fan but it was enjoyable. Pretty discoish and I knew a few songs.
Some good ones, some forgettable slow ones
I have listened to Off The Wall at least once before to see what else was on the album with "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough". There are a couple other tracks that I like ("Rock with You", "Girlfriend"), but not as much as "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough". Off The Wall has the same problem as Jackson's other albums - there are some weirdly sticky sweet "love" songs that I wouldn't chose to listen to. At best, Jackson gets an "okay" from me, even though there are a couple of tracks I'd be happy to hear again.
Not my favorite Jackson album, but still enjoyable.
There's some pretty fantastic writing here. Good songs. Not my bag, and not my favorite MJ album. It's difficult to just judge the music and ignore that he was a pederast.
Don't stop 'till you get enough" da 5! Come si fa a stare fermi ascoltandola! Il resto dell'album così così
Disco will never be my thing.
Nostalgia. Lots going on in this overproduced album.
Great start. Good reintroduction to the world. But most of the album was just ok.
Lots of forgettable songs, not the biggest MJ fan
Opening and closing tracks were the only two I really cared for. Everything in between felt like filler so I guess I’d just cal this MJ’s double stuffed Oreo album. 2.5 stars
Favorite Song: Girlfriend Solid album ofc, it’s Michael Jackson. Definitely not my type of music, but there’s a reason he’s famous lol. Honestly seemed like music that would be played in places people have to wait, but in a good way?
Album presented sufficient "hee-hee's"
Difficult to dis-associate the music from the nonce
It's ok. A coupte great songs ... but listening to this. I cant help but think of where he went after this.
всё ещё вообще не увлечена МДж
It's like, OK. Not a huge disco fan so I didn't love most of it.
Awesome bass lines, I wish the trumpets were real.
-S Tier- Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough Rock with You -A Tier- Get on the Floor I Can’t Help It -B Tier- Off the Wall -C Tier- Workin’ Day and Night It’s the Falling in Love -D Tier- Girlfriend Burn This Disco Out -F Tier- Out of My Life AVG SCORE: 2.7 / 5 Heavy funk and disco vibes on this one. Could have been a killer but for a few strange missteps (wtf was “Out of My Life” doing on this?).
This is better than Bad and not as good as Thriller.
Not a Thriller, not my kind of music, but I cannot deny this album offers notable qualities. And as a bonus, I'm assuming Jackson was more a victim than a perpetrator back when this album was made.
Off The Wall really set the sound and direction for the years to come in Michael Jackson's career. The production is great and it's a blend between disco, pop, funk and R&B. Even though it's good it's not on the same level as Thriller that came after this one. It's like the foundation was created with this album but Thriller built upon it and perfected it.
Some absolute bangers and some stuff that was to saccharine for me
Good but paedo
On the wall
Some great stuff here: "Don't Stop Till you get Enough", and "Rock with You"... It's not enough to give it 4 stars, though.
I'm not the biggest Michael Jackson fun, but this more disco like sound really works for me better than I expected Saved tracks: Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough, Workin' Day and Night, It's the Falling In Love
First Michael Jackson album I've heard all the way through. Don't stop till you get enough is the best song on the album but the vibe stays throughout the whole album
Favourite MJ album. Before here became king of pop, and weird. Here it is about funk and soul
Very listenable. Couple hits I knew. Couple songs I like now that I hadn’t heard before.
Not bad
It’s strange to listen to this album alone in an apartment. From the sound of it, it set the tone for the 80s and I’m sure it’s had a huge influence on pop. On its own though it didn’t quite hit the pleasure center in my brain that great pop should. Maybe I’d enjoy it more on the dance floor.
I WILL dance to off the wall if someone plays it. Mj definitely has a lot of bangers but some of the songs are just okay/decent 80s pop. 5 stars if I was watching the dancing at the same time
This album starts out very strong, but doesn't sustain that level all the way through. The second "side" isn't nearly as good and overall the ballads are eh. Would give it a 3.5 if possible, but rounding down given his personal failings.
I can't hear Don't Stop Till You Get Enough without it being autotune sung by Chris Tucker in Rush Hour and it cracks me up every time. Good stuff. Off The Wall is funky and peak pop disco from an artist who tended to know where to go to stay relevant even if it didn't always deliver excellence. This is really that; it's solid and occasionally historic with a couple of timeless tracks but earns a square 3/5 for managing to stick a simple landing to not fuck up. If only he'd have managed that in his life.
Going to try and play the ball and not the man here, so we'll focus on the music. It's nicely arranged, and his voice is obviously really good. But, it just feels like he's playing within himself here, it's all quite safe, disco pop without even the hint of any edge - even the most memorable songs feel like brain filler rather than anything that screams genius. I think I just don't really like disco, this one can get a 3/5 because it's good at what disco is, it just doesn't really do much for me.
This and thriller were Michael Jackson at his best, after that, in my opinion, he lost his way a bit and never really achieved the success that off the wall or thriller gave him. Off the wall is very much of its time though, having a disco influence, and Now in the 2020s is starting to show its age a little. Still a very listenable album but lacks punch
Hmm, separating art from artist, this record is decent. The first half of the album is loaded with lots of the classic disco hits, and it's hard not to bop to them. The album kind of loses momentum for me after the first five tracks or so. By the end, I was kind of wishing that I was listening to one of the later artists clearly inspired by this album (say, Thundercat or Louis Cole, both of which I played immediately after), but it was pretty cool hearing this in comparison.
This album is a bit less over the top than Thriller while still being creative and catchy.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would
Going to be real with y'all, I put this on as background music and it served its purpose well. Yeah I know he and this album are iconic, and Rock with You is a great song, but like...it was alright. Nothing stuck out to me, even though it was a good album overall. Also, mouth noises make me very uncomfortable, which I feel like he's really good at, so his intense panting and gasping in 'Workin' Day and Night' sparked a ferocity in me I didn't know existed. You better be thanking Jesus in your prayers tonight.
BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IM A MJ LOYALIST. I DONT BELIEVE THE RUMORS AND I FEEL BAD HOW THE LAST 25 YEARS OF HIS LIFE PLAYED OUT. HE SEEMED LIKE SUCH A GENTLE SOUL AND EVERYONE TRIED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE. BESIDES THAT THOUGH, THIS IS MY FAVORITE MJ ALBUM. THRILLER IS ALMOST PERFECT, BUT THIS HOLDS A MORE SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART. Smh, I remembered this being better. It was just okay at the end of the day. It’s a 3 for me.
Not a bad album, a couple funky tracks
It was fun. I wonder how this compares to his other albums?
Thought it started better than expected, the more upbeat disco tracks were pretty interesting. Got worse as it went on.
I wrote a bunch of stuff and forgot to save. First two songs are big hits. Love em. Some of the others just smack of seventies with no real hook. The percussion on the upbeat songs on this album is so dope though
Amazing until it hits Girlfriend. That one is alright, but I wanted to skip the next 3. Stuck it out, and it ended on a higher note with Burn This Disco Out. If the whole thing was like the first 5 songs, this would be a 9/10 album. As it is, it's like 6.5/10. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is the obvious highlight.
Disco! Tanssittava ja oikeasti hyvä. Hitit ja menomeininki taas tykitetty alkuun, vähän lätistyy loppua kohti. Vai pitäisikö kuunnella uudestaan.
A bit of a classic by the artist with possibly the most tainted reputation of all.
Mid saved by the first 2 tracks 3
Starts with some bangers but by the end was over it. Ends flat for me.
Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough.
Not really my cup of tea
I fw michael jackson’s best song but it’s still a weird vibe
Sitten muistin dynamiikan.. jota on paljon enemmän mikkelin albumissa. Siitä..mikelle iso käsi, ja melkeen 3 tähteä.. Kivahan välillä tällästä poppia kuunnella.. Muutamassa kohassa eih.. no annetaan kolme.. Shes out of my life.. hiljasempi biisi välissä.. se hyvä hyvä.....
upbeat and good energy but holy moly so sexual
3,5
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this, another solid 3.5. It’s definitely getting just a 3 though cos , ya know - he was a paedophile🤷🏻♂️
A few great songs but then it becomes a bit more of the same. Good disco vibes though.
Es el disco puente entre el Micheal de los Jackson5 y el que luego se convertiría en el Rey del Pop.
- Heard this before - First two tracks might be his best, rest is good but doesn't reach the same level - Fav songs: Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough, Rock With You, Burn This Disco Out
Setting forth the early promise, Jackson steps out of his sibling's shadow.
The guy certainly had a very distinctive sound and style. This is a pretty good album on it's own merit. But you can certainly hear how much he had matured, and taken more creative control, when you listen to Thriller. Too bad the guy ended up being such a colossal loon.
I really like the funky/disco-ish feel from this album. It has a cool theme on love and the transition from casualness to a stronger connection with a person. Very enjoyable listen, probably my favorite Michael album sound wise.
Ok. Not great.
Definitely his most fun album.
Thriller was better, maybe? I didn't hate the discoier tracks, but the signature 'hee-hee's got tiresome.
I get it, but it's not for me.
Despite the big name artist, I can't help but to feel indifferent to this album. While the songs are good, they all kinda sound very similar and make the album feel very long
There are some really sick beats at the beginning of this album, but it does fade out. Still a decent album.
Though there a clearly a few hits, i think the pop-disco-funk-70s esthetic is a bit too heavy for my taste, and then the slower songs just seem boring... particularly with pretty lightweight lyrics. A few background vocals even seem a bit off. Still the strength of a few tracks carries it to a 3.
Lepposa levy autonrattiin
Onhan tää klassikko, mut MJn laulu liian muniinpuhalteluu mun makuun. Myöhemmässä tuotannossa tulee vasta sitä asennetta
Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough is a good song, didn’t know it was by MJ, also didn’t know how long the song was, but it’s still good. Rock With You is another song that I know, but didn’t know was MJ, again, pretty good, like it a bit better than DSTYGE. Workin’ Day And Night was fine, although there was a really prominent high pitched click throughout the whole song which was annoying. Get On The Floor was again fine, was a big fan of the bass in the song. Off The Wall was again fine, nothing much to say. Girlfriend was again okay, nothing great, nothing bad. She’s Out Of My Life was actually surprisingly good, MJ’s emotion in the song was very well conveyed and it was a lot better than I expected. I Can’t Help It was far from my favourite song on the album so far, I can’t explain it, it just wasn’t my thing. It’s The Falling In Love was fine, just not the biggest MJ fan so kinda wanted the album to end. Burn This Disco out was again just fine, not his best, not his worst. Overall the album was fine, I’m not a fan of Michael Jackson so was trying not to be biased in any way, but it was a fine album. 3/5
MJ has a beautiful voice. Nice album to put on during the evening. It's okayyy, but nothing SPECIAL to me.
Classic MJ. Great songs, some questionable lyrics these days. But can’t really get over the tarnishing of his character tbh.
When it's got some insanely good ones and some realllllyyyy meh ones idk what to do. 3
Some good hits just not my style
Fun, groovy
No R, R or Kanye West rule.
I enjoyed it! Short and sweet. Funnily enough I found Off the Wall one of the weakest songs in the album.
Heard before: no (just a few songs) Quincy Jones' production is so recognisable. In fact, the grooves/lyrics would be too repetitive if not for the amazing production and arrangements. Great rhythm section, bass is good, horns are crisp, violins are smooth. Again, a little repetitive, but it's disco - it's for dancing. Favourite songs: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Off the Wall, Burn This Disco Out. Least favourite: Girlfriend
I know this is sacrilege but after the first track I just wasn't that interested.
This was very good, until it wasn’t. There are 10 songs so this is easy to rate. It kicks off with a bang with Don’t stop, and doesn’t let up with some great pop-funk for the next 5 songs. But then he falls off a Cliff with four maudlin saccharine coated dirges. He manages a slight redemption with the last song, Burn this Disco Out. It’s just too bad that he couldn’t maintain the quality of the first 6 songs.
Hele toffe nummers, afgewisseld met iets te zoetsappige nummers. En Michael zorgt inmiddels ook wel een beetje voor een wrange bijsmaak.
Ik laat de man zelf even buiten beschouwing. ‘Workin day and night’ is favoriet.
Enjoyed the start - it's familiar stuff, but the album ceased playing after about the half way point.
I Can't Help It). Don't Stop 'Tel You Cet Enough et Rock with You sont des incontournables à connaître.
Enough pep that it jolts off a mechanical whelk. Fairly certain he was a fiddler, so always conflicting to listen to MJ. A strong start that peters out a bit
Bra hits... men mycket känns som att det saknar något, trots att albumet alltid låter helt bra... kanske ja borde lyssna igen?
It's a kind of refreshing version. Faves: Don't Stop.., Off the Wall
Most of the songs feel like the one. I mean there's e difference between them. But still there are also some slow and simple melodies, and they are so pleasure for your ears.
I agree with the majority view here - 1st side of the album is incredible, 2nd half is awful!
Starts strong, but fades quickly. Still relatively enjoyable overall.
Starts with a bang. After that, not really his best stuff, but still pretty solid. I enjoyed it, but wasn't as blown away as I might have expected
On again, off again
Nice vibe, I love old Michael Stuff
Louis Johnson is a beast.
3.5
There were some comparisons of this album to Thriller, claiming it was as good or better, but I wouldn't agree. Couple of good songs, the rest just didn't cut it for me. 3
I wasn't a big Michael Jackson fan growing up, though I do love Thriller, how can you not. Some good songs and some not so good ones. I've listen a few times but outside of the big hits I don't love it.
Its just before he refined his pop into superstar status so Off The Wall keep some of its funk roots. But likewise, it sounds like the sort of thing you would get on Radio 4. A mixed bag
Ah oui la musique du loto
Je m'attendais à m'enjailler plus que ça !
Quincy and the musicians get a 5 for this record. The songwriting is… well, they’re disco songs, so a 2. Jackson’s vocals are fantastic but he was a creep, or became a creep and that’s hard to look past. Averaging all that out, including weighting the categories… carry the one, divide by the total…
(separating the artist from the art) First few songs are great. Starts off real strong, but the latter 2/3 is mediocre. It's listenable as background music, that's about it. Nothing particularly interesting.
1-5 were great. Could have done without 6-9. Burn This Disco Out sounded like it could be on a Bruno Mars album, which is a great thing.
This album feels like 2 different albums between the 1st and 2nd halves. The first half is iconic. The second.....is fine. I always have a bit of a gross feeling listening to MJ because the guy creeped me out.
Was pretty groovin until about halfway through, the songs lost me and it became something else.
First time listening to MJs music before it became ultra pop. Really enjoyed it, the music is so precise and matches his vocals in terms of ability. Some real bangers here, full of delightful bass lines and strings that ain't got no business being that infectious. The only thing for me is that a few tracks just fell off or missed the mark and became indistinct. Perhaps that is just me associating him with being the king of pop rather than a disco dynamo. Favorite track - Rock with you Least favorite - She's out of my life
Perfectly good pop/R&B/disco album, if very much of its time, that I wish I liked a bit better than I do. But Michael was undeniably respectable as the king of pop before he mutated into the king of WTF...
Not my style but an enjoyable classic
Would dance to some of, but generally slick and solipsistic
Some really good tunes on this album. but some meh ones. Dont sleep with kids
A very good disco album. Basically not a fan of disco, but Miacheal brings it across in an easy-going way. (6/10) FT: Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough, Rock with You
I liked the first half but the second half was kind of meh
The laddie can clearly sing, in whatever style he/his people want. Ranges from disco to balladry, with hints of funk and rock. First two tracks were the big singles, but she's out of my life and the title track were more enjoyable for me.
It's tough to separate the art from the artist. But he was only 20 when he made this, which is kind of incredible.
Besta plata MJ hands down. Ennþá nógu nálægt mowtown smooth fönki áður en maðurinn fór full on popp múzík
2022.01.24
Way more funky than I was expecting! Lots of great bass lines. Less Poppy than his more popular singles. Favorite Song: Get on the Floor
FUNKY!
Disco. Funky
This album showed signs of what Michael Jackson was about to be however some of the songs still showed him as a younger pop singer. This album is still good and it’s a more funky slow burn album. 7.1/10
Did I enjoy it? Yes. Would I listen to it again? Probably not. The story of Wacko Jacko is ultimately a very sad one. His huge wealth of talent was pushed forward by a work ethic probably quite literally beaten into him as a child. His music industry connections, the people who stood to make money from him, pushed that forward to his personal detriment. His internalised racism and disturbing, just plain wrong attitude toward and treatment of children may well have existed outside of his wealth. He may well have become a drug addict; so many Americans did through the mis-prescribing of opioids. But ultimately, one can't help but focus on the negative, even while enjoying the vast talent, enthusiasm and hard graft that went into Jackson's career. How much of his ouvre was his own talent and work? A lot of it. But the weaker tracks on this album show that it takes more than a talented front-man to make something great. The great tracks on album are great. But they're a combination of great talents in all aspects. A great front-man alone cannot compensate for mediocre material.
Few songs good.
Weinig die er uit springt. Luchtig popalbum
Fura se na weeknda lmaooo 💀
Taas kerran kiinnostava levy artistilta, johon olen tutustunut enimmäkseen hittibiisien perusteella. Jacksonilla olen normaalisti pitänyt eniten vähän rauhallisemmista kappaleista, joissa hieno lauluääni pääsee oikeuksiinsa. Valitettavasti tällä levyllä pääroolissa on juustoinen discofunkjumputus. Tämän levyn ennalta tutut hittibiisit (Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Rock With You) ovat hieman väljähtäneitä, ja oikeastaan kaikki nopeat biisit noudattavat samaa kaavaa. Kaunis "She's Out of My Life" erottuu joukosta positiivisesti, vaikkei sekään yllä Jacksonin hienoimpien slovarien tasolle. 2,5.
Thought this was fine but I liked this version of Jacko compared to when he gets into HEE HEE all the time
Never been a big fan of Michael's music, though I acknowledge that he was very talented. If I had to listen to one Michael Jackson album it would probably be this one. More of a Motown-y feel that some of his later work. 3 stars.
Its fun, some classic michael jackson. Not the disco I've most enjoyed on the list though
I’ve never listened to any non-top hits Michael tracks, and I guess this is why. Other than the first two tracks this was a fairly non descript soft disco album, which is fine but I was expecting a bit more wow factor. My top pick is of course ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’
Bops and weirdness because Michael Jackson.
Meh. Pop schmop.
It was alright, some famous songs I could remember
Classic disco tunes. Really upbeat great party album. Slows down second half, not a fan of the slower ballad. 3/5
Classic MJ album. Its got the hits and then some different jams I wasn't feeling
Listening to Off the Wall after Bad is... weird. There are some classic disco-adjacent jams on this record. More Quincy Jones magic. Again, the session players are top-notch.
it´s ok, but too much "hiehie". First song best by far.
3.5
Replete with violins. Kind of a wall of.sound,.pretty lush. High production values. Wouldn't pick it by choice.
7,5/10 Muito bom
Not super my thing. not a big fan of the more disco Michael Jackson. Don't stop till you enough is absolute classic though, same with rock with you. It's good.
A little disappointed. First two songs (the well known ones) are bangers. The album kind of never gets going after the strong start. Less end to end staying power than other MJ albums. 3/5
a couple bangers but generally just middling for me. not really my thing, funk/disco sound.
Pop em desenvolvimento
Pretty alright stuff. 2RS
Not MJs best but a good album
3/5, not for me, overproduced shit with random girly screams
looking at the tracklist, 'it's the falling in love' is a fave of mine and it has the least streams lol. i wonder if i've listened to all these songs on the radio or smth, let's see. never cared abt the first track. 'rock with me' is probably my favorite single of his. idt i've heard most tracks before. well i'm done, songs new to me were either meh or just fine, except 'i can't help it' which was really nice. fave songs: rock with you, i can't help it, it's the falling in love. idk i feel like it's really good but it didn't do that much for me.
Very good music
Not my fav Michael Jackson Album tbh
I definitely see the appeal, but it’s too pop-y for me. There aren’t any songs I’ll listen to again here.
An objectively good album, but not really my favorite vibe. Still gave some swank!
Just ok. No songs really stuck with me.
2 hits some filler and a lot doing random shit
Poppy Michael playing the mainstream. At his best when he lets himself go, some is a bit safe.
Bom. Descobri que I can't help it da Esperanza Spalding é um cover da música desse álbum.
Some classic MJ songs, some enjoyable light disco ish
Very polished, bouncy album.
Bailables y buena balada pero no lo tipo
Opening song is magnificent.
Can you seperate the art from the artist? Was he doing bad stuff at this point?
Soul, funky y disco. Música negra para un álbum luminoso e iniciático.
Was decent not his best work
3.5/5 nice sounds, I will have to relisten to judge it better
El único disco de Michael Jackson que tuvo mi padre, a él nunca le convenció para seguir explorando su discografía. A mi tampoco. Esta bien pero es muy irregular.
Hopefully i'll get thriller
I expected more but it was OK. Good for dancing.
Superior disco, really. Some tracks do transcend the genre, quite a few don't. Great if you like disco, otherwise it's merely okay. Starts brilliantly, ends on a high, it's the bit inbetween that's the issue.
Ok but not his best album. Some of this is good but also just too high pitched to understand.
Nice casual album to play in the background
1979, disco, funk, Pop, rnb, stabil, nichts zu krasses dabei
Pretty good, not his best though
nett - 3
A few bangers on here.
false
legendary groovin singles
the best from him
Absolute fire album. The first track is by one of the best intro to an album tracks of all time. Can't believe this guy released bangers pre-thriller but goddamn is this heat! But let's be real, it is a forgotten album amongst the ranks of MJ albums, can't even imagine amongst all pop albums. Solid 3/5.
I don’t really care about MJ
Was okay, not my type of music usually
First half was too much pop and tracks had similar beat and sound, I preferred the variety in the second half
Test for edit later.
Some solid bangers we all know High Energy fun album.
Deserves a 3.5; Very easy listening with some standout songs such as the opener, or 'Get on the Floor'.
Ehh not a hug MJ fan
The funk bangers are fantastic, but it's weighed down with too much pop schmaltz. 1 star deduction just for "She's Out Of My Life" - absolute fucking garbage.
Good although I prefer more of the upbeat funky stuff than the ballads
Clearly excellent, though not sure how often I would listen to it.
THE GOAT
have heard to much michael jackson so be impressed by something like this
Not MJ's best work - and I'm a bit lukewarm on that anyway...
Two good songs. The rest were fun to dance to
3.5
it's michael jackson, not a fan... 3 stars
Ganska härligt funkig och soulig jämfört med hans mer poppiga skivor. Working Day and Night och It's the falling in love är sköna!
Starts out strong with some decent pop music, some recognizable tunes. Then drops off with these slow r&b type crooner songs.
neither special nor enjoyable for anyone not born in the 1970s
Vähän sama ku Kanje Vesterisen kans, että pelle jätkä nii syö uskottavuutta. En tiiä helpottaako edesmenneisyys kritiikkiä, ehkä miedosti. Kovinkin klassikkolevy kuitenkin ja menevää buugia.
As always, some really iconic songs. Just hard to get past the pedophelia. Additionally, I don't love Michael Jackson enough to really ever want to listen to a full album. Everything starts to blur together. Favorite Songs: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Rock with You
Disco isn't really my thing
Jackson's breakthrough album with Quincy at the helm is a polished release that took disco mainstream with its inclusive mix of pop, funk and soft rock.
cool. aber auch nit soo cool.
Other than the hits, there wasn't a lot to particularly enjoy. Listening closely, even those hits sound tired.
Songs 1-5 are really good classics. 6-9 not so much. 10 is good
- on the dancefloor 😊
It’s fine. Obviously not his beat album. Honestly found it slightly annoying at times
Usually listen all the way through these albums, but I just couldn't manage it with this one. Extra star for Quincy tho.
Cheesy. Also, I'm sick of Michael Jackson, it makes me feel dumb listening to this list. I've always despised these kinds of artists. I don't want to change now. I prefer to live my life without listening to Michael Jackson. Give me Slayer, Discharge and Napalm Death and stop with this Michael Jackson thingy.
I didn't hate it, but it's also definitely not up my alley. Mostly I fear if I listen to it any more it might drive me to really boogie-hee-hee.
Disco plus sickly ballads, not for me. Two stars due to a couple of bangers, but lots of samey, mediocre songs.
Boring
It’s hard to separate the art from the artist with MJ. No denying it’s one of the greatest Pop voices of all time.
I understnad why people really like this record, but man did it drag for me. Few decent tracks but it felt like the same song every track.
No bangers, and his history/allegations affect my listening
the two radio hits are classics for a reason. the rest of the album? meh. it's fine. it doesn't come close to touching the sheer brilliance of _thriller_. i think this album is barely 3 stars, maybe just 2. we'll see how i feel tomorrow morning
Starts good and funky, ends rather flat. Other than a few good tracks, I found this album boring.
I’m mad about how good the first two tracks are—considering how much of an evil freak Michael Jackson was. The rest of the album is just Okay
All the weird tics and sounds are aggravating.
War mir zu funky.
-1 for the child abuse
Huft
ok
We all know that my inner demons create frictions with enjoying pop, both the musical and beverage variety.. Therefore, this album mostly annoyed me. I acknowledge that the music is uplifting and positive which I really appreciate, plus this sounds like 80s while being in the 70s which is impressive. So it gets a 2.5 ... but rounded down.
There's like one good song on this album (Don't Stop Til You Get Enough), but the rest of this thing was ultimately forgettable and just kind of exist. Overall, this was underwhelming given MJ's other work and I'm not sure it deserves a spot on this list.
Sensual, cocky, and sensitive. I understand why this album was so significant as a breakaway from his childhood career. I’ve never been the biggest fan of disco, but the roles it plays in this album are definitely lively and playful in a way I haven’t listened to for awhile. I’d heard “Rock With You” plenty before but little of the other songs of this album. As an album it flows very cohesively, classically from the more energetic to the soulful and slow. Micheal Jackson’s name kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth at the allegations he would later receive. I don’t know if I’ll find myself going back to this album a lot. In addition to his infamy, to me many of the aspects of this album feel a bit corny and unrelatable, the ‘moans’ and innuendo kind of just read as forced and uncomfortable! And the songs become a bit repetitive. But this is definitely a foundational one in pop history regardless of my own tastes, and I am grateful to be branching out and learning. Admittedly, the bounciness of many of these beats had me moving along in my seat, I’m only human. Listened to this album fully once while occupied and nearly halfway through while more focused on the music. Favorite song from this album was Get On The Floor. The funky bass and ‘silliness’ was fun and read as more natural in this song. And for some reason the way Jackson says “especially” is strangely cathartic and kinda funny to me. I love the way YOU shake that thing, girl. Especially!
Solo me gustaron dos canciones, el resto están buenas pero no me gustaron mucho :) Gracias por la recomendación
"Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" is a great song; I enjoyed that one. But issues with the problematic musician aside, a whole record of this kind of music doesn't work for me. I guess there's a reason that all the "Pop" subgenres are down in the basement in my summary bar graph. 2 stars
- Not really a Michael Jackson fan
Pop/rocky songs are nice, first two so gs are great. But the rest is just mid, and his ballads are terrible. You hear here that his voice is not that great.
Really,.
krasny album ale na mna je moc taky pomaly taky soft, moc chytlaveho som tam nic moc nenašla. 2/10
Oh not the M Jackson issue again. Music wise I was always more a Princess fan. Jackson musically is a shade too smooth, too much the production is king. This is the only album of his I ever have owned so have heard it, so after 2 songs today decided don’t need to hear again. See there’s a movie coming out, bet that’s all kinds of image scrubbing. It’s Jackson so ceiling on any score whatever the music, 2 Star
Funky & een paar klassiekers maar beetje eentonig.
As someone who finds disco music insufferable, I had a hard time getting through this. I'm fully aware of Michael Jackson's importance in the history of pop music, and I get why some people would love this record, but that doesn't make it easier to listen. Growing up in the 80s, I've already heard enough of him for a lifetime, and I really can’t get past his voice (which is probably what made me hate him in the first place). I’ll admit that Don’t Stop and Working Day & Night are groovy songs. But the rest is just typical disco nonsense - music for mindless late night dancing, sweating and mating with inebriated people. The slow ballads like She’s Out My Life are complete torture. Still, it's better than most of his later works - Michael Jackson had not yet turned into the crazy fame monster he would later become, and there are still trace elements of good Motown funk and soul here, making the whole thing a bit more listenable. 3/10
No es mi estilo
2 Stars (5/15)
I think it's beautifull, but is doesn't move me. Not my rhythm
Opening track is just class
Quincy Jones is a master, - 1st track "Don't Stop" what an opener! if you hear this in a night club environment and don't feel the need to move: man... there is clearly something wrong with you, arguably one of the most danceable rifts of all time. Next up "Rock You", taking it down a notch, but if it followed Don't Stop - Brother....you'd still stay on that dancefloor. "Workin' Day & night" and "Get on the Floor"- just album fillers really, then, despite being a slow burner the album track "Off the Wall" you'd be back on that floor as it becomes a bit of a toon! "Girlfriend" track is awful. "She's out of my life" next which is a beautiful heart-breaking classic - you can hear the emotional vulnerability in MJ's voice. The rest of the album is average in my view. As for MJ the man himself, it's a sad tail really how someone so talented, blessed and successful could leave such a sad, shady life & damage so many other people on the way.
Oof, MJ is a tragic figure and this one doesn't have any of my favorites.
Not a fan
Sorry Mikey, not really a fan of this, and why arent you pale yeat, stay on brand white boy tut tut tut.
I grew up in an anti-Michael Jackson household and didn’t really know any of his music until after he died, and even then have never really been a fan so this was interesting as it’s not one of his albums where I feel I know many of the songs. And I didn’t really enjoy it very much. After the first two tracks I found it quite dull and was relieved to get to the end. These songs didn’t feel like they had any of the features that make his hits so distinctive
So uhh pedophiles are in the news! How about one singing disco for three quarters of an hour? Can you send me these tracks in a redacted email. Redact all audio. Some topical commentary here at the page? What is this? Review Centre? Who cares. Of course this global child-abuse cabal will hold public interest until we discover a man on TikTok who says "orange" in a funny way or perhaps get behind a new dance craze called "ignoring the horrors" set to a hoppin' new groove from ohh I don't know, let's say SZA. She's due. While our heads are buried in the sand, lets go back in time to the near-abandoned roller rinks of yore. Request a funky deep cut, get a microwave slice of pizza and a blue raspberry slushie and start spinnin' pal. Aliens will find those items in your body in a thousand years, completely undigested and in their original form. Separate art from the artist they say. Me bobbing my head to some of this feels like nodding along to passages of "Mein Kampf." The head motions don't so much symbolize agreement, but rather recognize some fuckin' NASTY basslines. I am but another poor, naïve soul with a brain full of microplastics, and the attention span of a sick budgie in a hall of mirrors. Therefore, I rock pretty aggressively with like 2 of these songs. The rest suck, but still... This child molester really can sing and his enablers/backing band rock hard! 2-2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Rock With You, Workin' Day and Night
This album is like Thriller without that brief interlude with decent songs.
- i did not like this album at all - it does not align with my music taste - that said, if i did enjoy this genre of music, i would probably like the album - i can appreciate it for the work that went into it and understand my own bias enough to give it a 2
