28/1089 2.4443 It's a Christmas album from 60 years ago.

Bah Humbug

Anyone else not a big fan of Christmas songs? At least they are more interesting than newer ines

I hate Christmas music but these are the best ones

Classic christmas songs everybody has at least heard 100 times

I don't really care for Christmas music as it mostly doesn't do stuff outside of declaring it's Christmas

I've never been too fond of Christmas songs unfortunately.

I mean it's a Christmas album. It doesn't sound particularly innovative to me but maybe it was the first of it's kind idk.

Rating: 5/10 A collection of rockin’ classic Christmas song renditions. Heard these version of the big hits too many times to count on Christmas radio. 1001 Essential albums, nah.

I hate Christmas Carols. These sound marginally better than supermarket muzak.

Spent Christmas at Nate’s and he had one playlist on repeat which featured many songs from this. To then have to listen to those songs again was not ideal.

It's a christmas album. Went on a bit long for my tastes but fine, just fine.

I mean, this sure is a Christmas album.

Christmas deez nutz

Ahh, the Christmas spirit! What could be more pure and innocent than an album of timeless holiday classics? Can’t you just picture it? Recorded in the sweltering heat of a Los Angeles August by a domineering megalomaniac who yelled, screamed and cursed his way through the sessions, making everyone involved completely miserable. When he wasn’t screaming orders, this married man was trying to shag one of the female vocalists, so he gave her all the solos and best songs, which pissed all the other artists off. By the way, he was also Jewish, so perhaps he was not the obvious choice for a quintessential Christmas album. Ah, Phil Spector… the man, the myth, the murderer of a woman that he shot in the face because she wouldn’t have sex with him. It’s like a holiday carol come to life! The result of this Yuletide madness is a buffet of force-fed Christmas standards. Much like the holidays themselves, this amounts to a thinly veiled respite from the reality of what is really important and meaningful to real people in their daily lives. Enjoy the mirage and roast those chestnuts, bioch.

appropriate for the time of year.

Besis.

Welp, standard mainstream Christmas music. Really nothing special about that tbh. I personally rather listen to the really classic stuff from Boney M. or a good Xmas Rock/Metal playlist instead.

I'm getting crucified for this one. Here goes nothing. My problem with most Christmas music is that it all sounds the same and the same 15 songs are played eternally for 1-3 months (depending on the person) every year. I find most of it completely insufferable, and most of this is the same. When I listen to it, I usually listen to more of the niche stuff (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, even Christmas Truce by Sabaton). None of this corporate pop crap that gives me homicidal ideations. The music itself is fine, and I know a lot of the most overplayed Christmas music is inspired by this album specifically. What I look for in my holiday music is anything that helps me appreciate everything that I have in life and remind me to help others enjoy the holiday as much as I do. Musically, this album is fine. There's nothing inherently wrong with it. Practically, this album just reflects the ideals that have taken over the Western Christmas season: commercialization, always wanting more than you have. I'm perfectly content enjoying what I have and spending time with the most important people in my life.

Probably not best to listen to this just after Christmas. Nothing revolutionary here.

I could probably be reluctantly persuaded to listen to this once a year before swiftly moving on with my life

If you like holiday music but not creepy convicted murderers, I recommend listening to It's a Holiday Soul Party by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings instead.

What a totally random coincidence that this came up on Christmas! Phil Spector's wall-of-sound production really lends itself well to Christmas music. I'll have to add this to the Christmas music rotation (if I remember it a year from now). If I were rating this album on a scale of Christmas music, it would get a 4 or maybe even a 5. But I'm not. And I'm not gonna be spinning this in July.

Some of these are classics. (Mainly the Ronettes) but not the best Christmas album I’ve ever heard. Not even close

2 songs that are good + Christmas music = a rating of 2

Pretty good for a Christmas album. But it's still a Christmas album

Bah-humbug ... I was hoping to get through this holiday season without hearing any traditional Christmas songs. This is as bad as putting an album of covers on this list ... oh wait, this is an album of covers! Sorry, I know people love it, but Christmas music is just not my thing.

I enjoy Christmas, but these songs never really did it for me

Didn't really listen sorry

Christmas music.

I guess this was a very popular album at the time? But these are definitely not the best versions of these songs...none of them make the cut for my Christmas playlists.

It's Christmas music, and it's not Vince Guaraldi.

It is Christmas music what you see is what you get. Not a fan of the genre after hearing it nonstop while working in retail. Did not listen one star

Imo, I feel like we shouldn’t be adding Christmas albums to a list like this

I just don't like Christmas music that much. Plus...you know, it's Phil Spector. Giving an extra star for the talented vocalists.

So so.

Very Christmassy

I don’t really like Christmas songs and this album did little to change this. Nice vocals and the wall of sound is iconic but not for me.

This is cute, but in no world am I going to be rating a Christmas album highly. I know all these songs. I can't stand most of them. Call me a Scrooge I guess.

Holiday

I don’t get the love for Christmas music.

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background I know this is highly rated on various Christmas albums, but I'm not sure why. The Wall of Sound Phil Spector sound might have been great at the time but sounds rather dated to me now. I'd reach for other christmas albums before spinning this one. Don't hate it, but I'm not vibing with it.

No, just no... I do not like Christmas songs during Christmas, why would I listen to them during the year?

I chuckled a little when I saw this one pop up today. Well maybe I just breathed a little harder out of my nose. I suppose if there has to be a Christmas album on the list, today is the day for it. Insert joke about Phil Spector killing it with this album here. Then insert second joke about Phil Spector’s hair. That’s the real joke. Murder isnt funny. So Christmas music is not something I ever listen to on purpose. Even at Christmas. This album could be good or bad because of that. It’s sappy Christmas music that I hate but I suppose it serves a purpose. Not really being a Christmas celebrator I kind of wish I had a real album today though. 2/5

maybe i’m a bit of a scrooge, but christmas music has never done it for me. the tunes from the ronettes and darlene love got me into the holiday spirit just a bit, but the grandiose production from phil spector quickly wore away at me, and made this a bit of a slog to get through.

Personally don’t like Christmas music

I love the vocals but man I hate Christmas music. Also fuck Phil Spector.

Classic Christmas playlist

It's a Christmas album, so I am not gonna rate it high. Musically it's good, all of the songs could be used to represent their respective versions. It's just not my thing and it probably never will be.

I think I knew two songs on there.

I didn't like it

Widely regarded as one of the greatest Christmas albums, only one or two of the songs make it into my annual rotation of Christmas favorites. I prefer much different styles, and while the music was decent for background holiday listening, I wouldn’t normally choose to listen to it.

Yeah fine, nothing special, just your basic overplayed Christmas music.

DNF - not my jam

Just Christmas Music. Not enjoyable

I don’t celebrate Christmas so this was lowkey boring ashellll for me

It was ok

Liked a few songs on there…. Lowkey a bit sick of Xmas music as I’ve listened to so much recently. A lot of the songs I like other covers…. But I did already know and prefer these covers: - sleigh ride - Christmas (baby please come home)

not sure why this is on the list other than it's a phil spector album

christmas 👍

This album feels like Christmas but ironically I don’t know what Christmas feels like

2.3/5 This was mid as hell.

i appreciate the christmas gift!

As someone who does not celebrate Christmas, never have I thought I'd willingly put on a Christmas album. But hey, I'm committed to the challenge. It's clear this album is very well made, it sounds great and has a very cozy atmosphere. That said, I'm sure I would've enjoyed it much more if I was in the Christmas spirit, or if it was snowing instead of an occasional drizzle where I live. Regardless, my point is that it's a nice album that doesn't hold much outside of Christmas.

Not a fan of Xmas music and Spector is, yeah, but this sounds fucking gorgeous, even if I'll never listen to it again. Cheers.

The generator with a holy grail pull for Christmas. Kind of rolled my eyes when this came up but quickly decided to stop being a Grinch and get my spirit on. This is how all carols should sound, and I feel pretty strongly about that take. Soul-driven, nostalgic, and imperfect - love it. The Ronnettes are fire, Darlene Love’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ is an obscene classic, and Phil Spectors ‘Silent Night’ outro was a cool touch. Whole thing just feels like an 80’s American Christmas and that might be the most ideal holiday atmosphere for me.

Good covers of the songs , I love how their voices sounded back then also how back then instruments were clearer and louder. Not what I’d typically go for

Not a big fan of Christmas but better than most albums

christmas songs are not my thing AT ALL

Sigh... Merry Christmas everyone.

it’s a christmas classic et on est le 25 décembre, i get it, mais les albums de Noel c’est pas trop ma tasse de thé

I don’t know who Phil Spector is, but I know Christmas songs cuz who doesn’t 🤷‍♀️ It was cool to hear the songs from the 60s and to be able to hear that 60s sound through the songs. I liked the Ronettes songs the most 😛 Then again, they are just Christmas songs, so they’re not my fave to begin with, but still a decent Christmas album 🤷‍♀️ ⭐️⭐️.5 / 5

Really not my thing. I don’t care for Christmas music and tbh I skimmed this album. I get that it’s a classic but I’m more than likely not coming back to it.

im Turkish and we never rlly had celebrations abt christmas till i was like 17 so christmas doesnt really invoke anything special to me

CHRISTMAS!

Not much of a Christmas Music appreciator. I can tolerate it on Christmas Day. Had to end a few of these before listening fully once I’d gotten the idea. Ending with the message from Phil Spector just left a bad taste in my mouth. Generous extra star for getting this on the 25th of December.

silent night is so freakyyyy 2/5

It's Christmas music. Hip hip hooray.

i didn't want christmaas music...

I typically don’t care much for holiday music but this album does it well. I was already a fan of The Ronettes, I enjoyed the other groups as well.

If there is a thing I really dislike, it's Christmas songs.

Oh well, whatever!

Great bands and an insane producer, I’m over Christmas music.

Ok fir a Christmas album

Xmas album

This is these songs at their best, but they’re still Christmas songs. I don’t really want to hear them, even on Christmas

Great if you like Christmas songs. Horrible otherwise

Do we fucking have to RYM: N Saved a song: N

Ehhh, I wasn't really into it. It was fine I guess.

Hate christmas music

Pretty much as good as a Christmas album can get, which is to say the peak of mediocrity. Not a bad listen overall but nothing I've ever come back to outside of of this particular holiday week. There's just something too sappy, too inauthentic, too uninspired by the modern era of Christmas music that traded worship songs for smybols and commercialism. Fav tracks: Sleigh Ride

Xmas sung by a murderer

Poi ascoltarlo fuori tempo massimo male male

Brecht said something along the lines of this: there is no good or bad art, only correct or false art. Almost all festive pop music is false, recorded in the summer with an eye on Q4. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard, at least, acknowledges its purpose with the cash register ding that opens the song. Fairytale of New York is honest and artful in its depictions and is dragged into the circle of commerce only because there is nowhere else for pop music to go. Phil Spector’s Christmas gift, however, is not a gift at all. It is all about commerce. He expects you to pay for it and that is hardly in the spirit of the season, is it. As far as I can hear, this record has nothing to do with Christmas at all. And, yet, it has greater longevity than any other Spector album - as opposed to single - precisely because it is a seasonal product. Indeed, are there other Spector albums rather than albums by artists he produced? This is Spector’s gift to himself, knowing that it will have more windows in which to sell than the usual pop single’s shelf life. The slimy eye of the producer was not just on Q4 1963, but every Q4 hereafter. Canny, but hardly an act of goodwill. 1.5 I hate Phil Spector’s production. Apart from that this wasn’t terrible. It enjoyed the advantage of being listened to on Christmas Day. 2/5

I like Christmas music. These are largely not arrangements that speak to me. Sleigh Ride was great, The Ronettes were the most consistent. Parade of the Wooden Soldiers is new to me but fun. I enjoyed how the message at the end was presented sonically. Best: sleigh ride, winter wonderland, parade of the wooden soldiers, here comes santa claus, silent night

Just a very standard Christmas album

It's ...a pop Christmas album.

I’m going to be a bit harsh, I just don’t like listening to Christmas music. Every rendition just kinda flattens out to the same, and this album just blends with the others. Nothing really stuck out to me, especially to a point that I would save this rendition of the songs over others.

dolce ascoltarlo l’undici gennaio

Kitsch

Phil Spector was a genius producer at a time when most releases were likely single. Compiled all in one album all the songs sound pretty much the same and the “wall of sound” becomes tiresome.

umm don’t care

I love the creepy Phil Spector speech on the last track. The rest, not so much.

5/10 - A Christmas album that’s probably as good as a Christmas album can be.

A fairly fun, middle of the road Christmas record. Don't really want to rate a holiday album out of 10.

0 songs added to my favorites. Hate christmas music, still, this is the best I ever heard.

Yeah nah, miss me with the Christmas music However the background and production style of this record is interesting. Whole thing is in mono. If there’s such thing as anti-transparency this is it. Good luck hearing the difference between each instrument easily. A huge ass wash of sound and diffusion. The wall of sound technique tied to Phil Spector is worth looking into. Pretty interesting stuff. Not sure that I like it but creates an undeniably unique sound which no doubt created a niche and success. That takes on the classics are unique and fun. It’s just fuck Christmas music, I hope you understand

it's a Christmas album

Holiday albums aint it

Christmas music - whatever

Impeccable timing with the album but a little too old-sounding. Not the biggest fan of US-christmas songs.

Very confused when Phil started speaking in the last track. Not my thing but interesting to hear lots of supposedly different groups all with the same sound created by one man.

fine Christmas songs, nothing offensively bad

That was a Christmas album

Meh. Jula er over for lenge siden.

I'm sorry ladies, you all seem great, I'm just really not a fan of Christmas music. This wasn't Different enough from what's played in every convenience store in 2025 to be memorable to me :/

En tiiä mitä joululaulut ol ennen tätä levyä, mut kauhee vouhaus tän ympärillä on.

Not really my favorite era of Christmas music (2.5)

Super tired of Christmas music right now. But it's cool they did something special today

i love christmas music, and i feel like every single one of these versions of songs were worse than what you would hear normally.

It does what it says on the tin.

I was ready to love this - but honestly it was a collection of not favourite versions of my not favourite Christmas songs.

A lorra, lorra Kristmas klassics but I’m too bored to finish my thought

ANNIVERSARY EVENT TRAUMA RESPONSE ACTIVATED. 🚨

for the album cover

Welll... it's Christmas and this is a Christmas album. Was it so cheesey when it was released?

⭐️⭐️

First off, I have a low ceiling for Christmas albums. Christmas music as a genre is something that generally I will grin and bear as a necessary part of the festive season, but wouldn't listen to by choice. This album mainly served as a reminder of just how old and tired some of the classics are starting to sound. This probably sounded fresh and exciting in the sixties, but half a century later and we haven't really come up with anything better. I guess I can say that this is probably the best Christmas album that I have ever listened to.

Mainstream Christmas classics like these tend to fill me with dread when I hear them during the holiday season. I hear them as saccharine, almost pharmacological reminders that I should, despite the shortening daylight hours, many year-end work deadlines, pressures to buy gifts, and hectic entertainment obligations, feel So! Much! Joy! Maybe my real issue is with Christmas itself, but I’d be OK not ever hearing some of these shopworn songs ever again no matter who performs them, even though The Ronettes, Darlene Love et al. do a fine enough job with them.

Surely there are other phil spector Wall of sound LPs on the list so we dont have to sit thru another recording of Rudolph? Harmless but unessential.

christmas (baby please come home) might be the only song that doesn't sound horribly outdated

I mean, it’s Christmas songs done well….but they’re still Christmas songs and therefore are fucking shit.

too chrismansy

Better than other Christmas albums/songs that are out there, but still just okay to me.

I'm sick of the so called "genius" wall of sound. This man was no genius, he was a psycopath. The lady singers were talented for real.

Well Xmas stuff I guess

Fun themed album and good to have in the library to put on on a Christmas but nothing special musically

worst producer in history. best shot in the west however

Very generic Christmas album

This record was first added to my list literally just after I returned from the Christmas holiday last year, and I was very much over Christmas music, which would have been unfair. So I ignored it for 11 months, and now I'm finally ready for Christmas music again. So, the record. It's secular Christmas standards performed by R&B acts signed to Spector, produced in his signature "Wall of Sound" style. Spector's production overall sounds very stale right now due to the previous couple decades beating any dynamics out of mainstream music. Spector was very much making music based on the "limitations" of the available recording formats and the speakers people would consume it through. I think it's important to remember that what what is now the limitations of the past was high fidelity at the time, and the "Wall of Sound" was a way to make it sound good on vinyl through a jukebox, not digitally through home speakers or quality headphones. Also, I'd argue that Spector was an early pioneer that better artists were able to use as a creative tool instead of a marketing tool. That noted, the recordings are pretty... fine. They're good singers, it's well produced, but we're at the point of anyone who is considered a "good singer" having a Christmas album. Outside the history, this blends into the background of Christmas music. The performances are fine, but they're, let's be honest, pretty boring songs that are mostly relevant because of the perpetual cycle of Boomer nostalgia. There's not anything to hate, but I really can't endorse this particular collection of secular Christmas standards over any other competent performance of the past half century.

I respect the individual artists a lot, but just dislike Christmas music. Tough to rate.

Why is this one of Brian Wilson's favorite albums? Did they just have a lot less music back then?

I'm more of a Kevin's Kristmas kinda guy.

It´s just a nice christmas compilation. I wonder why it is on the list? 2,5

Didn’t really enjoy it

2.5 it’s Christmas songs

Seasonal at best.

Realmente no me interesa.

This was Christmas alright

It’s easily the best Christmas album ever but I’m not listening to an album at Christmas I’m listening to a best hits thing, it’s 2024. I appreciate what it does it’s very good music making. But not listenable now I don’t think

0005 / 25.12.2024 It started off really sweet but it got very boring very quickly. I think I heard this exact version of Here Comes Santa Claus so that's cool I guess. I don't feel like listening to this ever again, so I finished it despite being bored by it so that I don't need to later because I'd have to at some point to hear all the 1001+ albums. Despite Phil Spector being a very shitty person, the ending was actually kinda cute Choruses - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ Mixing - ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ Lyrics - ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ Vocals - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ Instrumentation - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ Rating: 55 Highlights: Frosty the Snowman; Sleigh Ride; Here Comes Santa Claus Lowlights: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

I couldn’t care less about Christmas music. Fav: Sleigh Ride

On the war on Christmas I am on the side of those who are against xmas.

boooo it's better than regular Christmas music but that's a low bar

Bro wieso ist das hier, Wallah ich will wieder gute musik Was soll ich mit dieser rotzigen musik Niemals ist n kosumeristisches Album in der 1001 wichtigsten

Great artists. Hate Phil Spector

Kindly GFY, I'm not listening to this. Respectfully.

Good if you like Christmas music, I don’t. Even listening to this on Christmas morning was a chore but the rest of the house liked it.

Just another Christmas album, and nothing special. I do not understand what is it in the 1001 albums for...

Music sounded good, but ultimately it was still Christmas music and only want it once and don't really pay attention to it.

It's cute that I got this on Christmas. A perfectly fine collection of Christmas standards. I'm not particularly fond of Christmas music, but as far as holiday songs go, this was a nice representation.

I've heard enough Christmas songs over the past month Pissing me off Merry Christmas fuckers

I don’t mind Christmas songs per se but a whole album of them?! Nah

I am thinking that the generator may not be entirely random on this occasion. In reality this is probably a low 3 rather thana high 2 on sound, but I would never willingly listen to any Christmas songs other than the Disney one we had as kids.

V Phil Spectorish.

I suppose there are other albums on this list which are collections of songs about a solitary subject matter (for that matter, I didn’t rate Murder Ballads that highly either). However, I think it’s unfair to include a collection whose subject matter is season-specific for most listeners, and for others would alienate them completely. That being said, is this somehow an especially extraordinary Christmas song collection? Nope. Good performers, but I’d 100% prefer hearing them sing other material. There are a few very unusual song selections on here, but instead of arguing that these songs have been mistakenly left out of the canon, they highlight precisely why they have been.

bro killed someone, album had some christmas classics but christmas songs are cheesy anyway

Ist doch irgendwie alles gleich arrangiert.

Strange but I actually like this. Sounds like a nightclub theme I'd actually enjoy visiting.

Christmasy

The random generator probably didn't pick this album at random today, on Boxing Day. And that's the only reason I listened to it at all. It suited the mood quite well. I wouldn't have listened to it at any other time. And despite it being Christmas time, the music got on my nerves after a while. Because it's Christmas: 🎅🏽 2/5

This is a whimsical Christmas record featuring mostly standard & inoffensive covers. However, Sleigh Ride wormed its way into my brain as a high schooler in band and this classic version of it sparks very little joy at this point. The last track features a corny spiel by Phil Spector that destroys Silent Night and is something I hate. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) is a standout.

Craziest Wikipedia section

I don't frequently listen to Christmas music, but when I do I prefer it to not be produced by a murderer.

Christmas albums is not my cup of tea

Sorry, what? Not sure this is something for this list.

The original formulaic Christmas record. Plus cheesy spoken words from Spector himself. It's all a bit much.

Jeez. Like a bad christmas cookie. Just sugar no actual taste.

The guy in the last two sounds very trustworthy. Too cheesy for my taste.

No thanks to Christmas albums. 2 stars or D-.

I'm not into Christmas music at all, but this is a lot of fun! The cheesy introductory message from Spector cracked me up.

merry christmas, chucklenuts

A gift Lana Clarkson and family would be hesitant to open. Too bad artistic genius so often comes with irreconcilable madness. As for this album, I have to say that I try to avoid Christmas music almost as much as pop country and for a lot of the same reasons.

So so unbelievably cruel for this to come up on the 26th of December. I find it had to rate christmas music like this on its merits because all of these songs are well known and widely produced, so once you have your set favourite version of a song you stick with it for life really, and on this album there were only two songs that i consider *the* songs, being Baby Please Come Home and Sleigh Ride. for that i cant really rate it higher than a 2.

Just relentless Christmas music. Stop.

I’m not that big into Christmas music. Fine songs, not something I’d put on unless it’s December 24 or 25.

50s/60s bands singing Christmas songs - they all had something unique about them, but they were not my favorite style

navidad flojita

It is a Christmas album and while there are a few classics in there, it didn’t move the needle.

By the book xmas songs is how my better half described it, and he's not wrong. Maybe if I liked xmas I'd rate it higher. Quite possibly something I'll look back up when the time comes to put up the tree next year.

Eh, Christmas music.

Good holiday album

Just a bunch of Christmas songs. I listened to it on Christmas Day. This album wasn't one of the highlights of that day. This record is only on this list because it featured the pioneering "wall of sound" technique. Otherwise, it would just be an album with songs played on the radio every December. 2 stars for "A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector".

Christmas music is not something I'm a big fan of. I understand why people like it, but this is not the reason I started this project.

Not sure how to rate this. Christmas albums are gimmicky in my opinion. I feel like to be consistent with my other ratings I'd have to base my rating on how much I'd enjoy listening to this album at a random time of year. Sleigh ride is a classic for a reason, the rest I could take or leave

Cute but nothing special

Very wall of soundy!

IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!!!! sorry if i sound like the grinch but i dont really like christmas songs i think sean ruined them for me completely freshman year between watching home alone every night and him playing christmas music whether it was september or april.... these queens knew what they were doin in 1963 so good on them. If I HAD to listen to a christmas album (like i am rn) this one isnt so bad and I find it fascinating how christmas music has barely changed in the last what? 70-80 years???

Lovely Christmas album. All songs have been done many times but I like the sound of the Ronettes, Darlene Love and the Crystals. Some songs have been murdered by my favourite choir so are winceable! This includes the original song on the record so that is where the rating comes from. Made me want to look up the originals - lots of country - and think about what it would be like to hear Christmas songs for the very first time.

I refuse to listen to a Christmas album.

Christmas music isn't really my thing from a lyrical perspective. That being said, I do enjoy that classic 50s style pop that Christmas music usually provides.

It was just christmas, I can't stand crissytunes, even the best ones are just barely tolerable, let alone listenable, so I'm not listening to this. I'll give it and extra star for the performers, that it's Spector production, that it's proper music and not low effort cash grab (I think).

As a retail worker, I’m considering this hateful I am receiving this album on Xmas day. Outside of the holiday I might be more forgiving, and give this a shot. I didn’t go through 2 months of cheerful, joyful noise pollution to have it intercept my one day of peace.

Ugh. It was fine. And I even enjoyed the Motown vibe but I don't understand how this is influencial... Maybe it spawned everyone making Christmas albums... If that's the case it might not be a "good" influence. Lol

Can we just cancel Phil Spector. The talent on this album deserves to have his name removed permanently.

It's a Christmas album. I can tell that a lot of the songs here have had major influence on later versions of the same songs, which is neat. 2

Han das Album recht schnell geskippt, will wiehnachtsmusig mine öhrli chli schmerzt.

Definitely not my cup of tea.

It’s a Christmas album - filled with variations of songs with alternate versions which I prefer and (presumably) American tunes I have no desire to add to the repertoire of an already tired musical time of year.

Of all the Christmas albums I've ever listened to, this is definitely one of them. I spent far too many years working full-time in retail to ever really enjoy Christmas music, but I also don't hate it. This would be a great album to put on in the background while you open gifts on Xmas morning, but I can't imagine bopping to it mid-summer

I think given it's a Christmas album, I'll review it with context that it is always Christmas time when I listen to this. I think it's only fair. I mean... I guess it's a collection of songs I've heard a billion times. Very traditional sound, very traditional songs, great for Christmas morning with the family, but otherwise I'd pass. But also, what's with Phil Spector's monologue in Silent Night? So strange.

It’s a Christmas album

Not so good if you listen to it a week after Christmas

Thank fuck this was only 30 minutes. I fucking hate Christmas. Though this wasn't too bad, I've definitely heard worse Christmas music. Still, I hate Christmas music regardless of how good or bad it is. I hope this is the only Christmas album on this list or I am going to be a very unhappy boy in a years time.

Phil Spector murdered women. That's not very Christmassy.

Great album for any retail store from Nov. 1 until Dec. 24th. I don't like Christmas music though, even on Christmas.

I don’t like this kind of Christmas music. It’s kinda creepy.

Uncomfortable, felt like christmas at gunpoint.

I work retail, so I’m not interested in anymore Christmas music. That said it is a little better than the Christmas music I hear in the mall all winter, so 2 stars I guess.

Darlene Love's voice! Minus 1 star for the convicted murderer's production role, and the Silent Night signoff.

This may be one of the best Christmas albums in existence. Unfortunately, it’s still a Christmas album

Merry Christmas- brought to you by a convicted murderer 🤷‍♀️

Lovely versions, but why is this on here?

It's not really my cup of tea, to say the least; I tend to despise Christmas songs. The artists are good nonetheless, so at least there is that.

Album art: 1

Very dated - incredibly cheesy - not my cup of tea but YMMV

Thanks Phil, is this gift returnable? These are the classic Christmas songs we grew up with and now sound dated. A compilation of Christmas songs from artists that were popular at the time seems like a cheap way to get on the 1001 list so I guess we’ll go with “the wall of sound “. L = (2.75*s) J = (2.4*s)

Especially nice when you get that album at the beginning of january

Tja t is kerst muziek

Not bad but there definitely are Christmas Albums I love better.

Samey classic Christmas songs

It was a Christmas album. Some good ones, some I didn't care for.

If you like the 60s sound of “Dirty Dancing”, this is the right Christmas album for you. But unfortunately not for me.

Ganz nette Produktion.

Certainly a festive selection to listen to today! But this is a weird one. Will I ever consciously return to this album? No. Is it a decent recording of Christmas songs? Sure. It does the job it sets out to do. But I’m not amazed at the production. 2.5/5

It’s a Christmas album.

I grew up on bing crosby🤷🏽‍♂️

I don’t really know the whole shindig about Phil Spector being a murderer, but this album slaps. -2 points for the accusations. 2.7/5 Favorite: “Frosty The Snowman” Least Favorite: “The Bells of St. Mary”

Helt bra, julmusik e int kanske min genre

Merry Merry Christmas produced by a murderer! I fucking hate Christmas music. I understand the exact appeal and atmosphere it is trying to build and its just a mental high i cant maintain past a couple minutes of Christmas cheer, at least without a break. Nonetheless, this album gets points for being one of strikingly many worked on by the infamous Phil Spector. The groups in the line up arent bad at all, i just dont enjoy Christmassy music as a genre :)

It was OK. Not really my style of music.

Not what I want to listen to the day after Christmas. Maybe if this had been put before me on Christmas Eve or earlier, it would have been appreciated. Being given this as exactly the wrong time, I must give it a 2.

Bah humbug

I could really do without the spoken interludes on a couple of these songs. Phil Spector talking all over "Silent Night" knocked a full star off of this thing. Darlene Love has an incredible voice. I had never heard "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" before and, after listening, I understand why. Overall, this is a nice gift from Phil Second Degree Murder Spector. His "Wall of Sound" approach makes for exciting, stirring moments, and also for some muddiness and lack of clarity, sometimes on the same song. It's not my favorite Christmas album and sounds very dated to my ears, but I bet this went off in the early 60s. Highlights: Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

syrupy

nostalgia. not for me ta.

Christmas innit

I get that its a classic, but I don't know if it really deserves to be among all these greats... holiday music will always be low hanging fruit to me.

Soul fueled Christmas and it came at a nice time.

A good Christmas album. It’s hard to rate this because after having lived through 40+ Christmases and working in retail for some of those years and restaurants in others, not really able to have an unbiased new opinion of these songs that get forced down my throat every December. They’re good, well recorded and produced for the era, but not making my socks roll up and down with excitement. Solid 2.5⭐️s.

Rating: 5/10 It's alright, good performances but I hate Christmas music so I'll never return to this.

For Christmas some songs

Murderer is hard to ignore. Wall of sound redeems a little

5/10 Highlights: Sleigh Ride

Not bad for Christmas music.

It’s a good Christmas album. 2 stars

Highlights: The Bells of St Mary. Issued on a hot Christmas Day. Well played, Album Generator. Overall: 4/10

36/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 I'm torn. On the one hand, I dislike Christmas music, but on the other hand, there is some legitimately good vocal work on this album. Strong 2 stars.

Is it a gun Phil? Did you get me a gun?

This would automatically get a 1 from me because it's a Christmas album, but there is a terrific amount of talent behind this. Shame it's wasted on a Christmas album. Christmas (Baby Come Home) is one of the five Christmas tracks or so that I actually enjoy

Phil Spector is a trash human… album is good for the holidays though!

As a Christmas album it's listenable. Why it ended up on this list I'm not sure.

Prefer ‘now that’s what I call Christmas’ 1.5

Uninspiring Christmas collection.

A collection of classic Christmas songs. If this is your kind of thing, I’d imagine it is great. I don’t really care for Christmas music, so I was not really interested in the album. 2/5 Wouldn’t listen again, although will probably here all these songs anyway around the holidays
