Reviews (page 13 of 17)

All of the individual groups on this album are great. Take Phil Spector's name off of it and I would rate it higher.

A bunch of the classic Christmas songs I’ve heard over the years.

Heard it before: Yeah, I’ve heard most songs but not the record in entirety Enjoy it?: Yeah it’s hard to be critical of seasonal music that doesn’t age Favourite song: Track 11 (Darlene Love) - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

I took a day off the project for Christmas. Big mistake! There is nothing worse than being forced to listen to an entire album of Christmas music the day after Christmas. 😂

Maybe the best Christmas music album but still Christmas music

Much of this album has had an effect on the American Christmas for decades, popularizing Christmas pop music. Plenty of nostalgic Christmas cheer throughout. But can only really listen in December

This is sure to be good, I just can't bring myself to listen to Christmas music outside of December. Middle vote!

I guess you have to grudgingly admire the craft despite me preferring instead to hear a collection of TV themes and/or advertising jingles at least for variety at this point. Please never again...

Nices bands and artists from the 60's. Merry Christmas!

There are definitely worse Christmas albums. True nostalgia for our parents here

Not a Christmas music fan but if I had to listen to a Christmas album this one would be a top choice.

i did not listen to this on christmas lol

Festive as fuck, got this at the right time (23rd) but no chance I'll listen too again...

All the classic Christmas songs

-literally just a compilation of Christmas songs -no replay value except at Christmas, background for a get together or something -Frosty the Snowman version was in GoodFellas -cute, love the old school

Better than I thought, I guess I'd heard most of them anyway over the years. Wall of Sound or Hail of Bullets. Guy had talent back in the day.

This was a good Christmas album. Could use a remaster to get the quality up for me.

Meh. Phil Spector is even crazier than I knew (see wiki)

this has a very nice sound to it but it being a christmas album limits its appeal to me. i'd listen to a regular album from any of the artists featured on this compilation. "sleigh ride" is iconic and definitely lifts this up.

Impressive production. But it’s a Christmas album.

I have an aversion towards Christmas music, but I appreciate the tradition and nostalgia of the Ronettes. God do I love celebrating capitalism.

Dankjewel voor de kerstsfeer

Meest prima kerstalbum ever!!!

fun and festive. not my first choice for christmas music, but still very fun nonetheless! i prefer my xmas stuff less traditional, so i usually go for more alternative covers than these, but this collection is undeniably good and cheerful. i'm not gonna rate it higher than a 3 because it doesn't SUPER fit into the greater music cannon (aside from the artists and producers attached to the songs), but still a fun time and will be a seasonal revisit when i need to put on something that isn't weird

Kind of hard to rate a Christmas album. It was nice and obviously well timed.

Most Christmas music is basically the same songs by different people. Regardless, I still like them sometimes.

Will have to save for next year. No way I’m listening to a Christmas album now. Hoping I can change my placeholder 3 if needed.

Haven't heard this particular album before, most of the versions of the songs on here were decent ones but won't be coming back next Christmas to get this specific album. So overall fine.

There's not much to say about this, a Christmas album of mostly Christmas classics. The recordings sound pretty rough compared to modern standards. Everything is overplayed at this point so can't say I listened to the album properly.

My notes from listening. Castanets. Percussion and strings. Reverb. So big and crazy sounding. Drums sound like rain and thunder in the distance. All definition of stuff in mids is lost. Some times you just hear drums bells and vocals with a wompy bass. The drum fills at the end of the tunes are great. I like the time feel- like it’s pushing a lot of the time. As far as holiday albums go this is one of the best ones. Can I still enjoy his records knowing that Phil Spector was such a creep and a murderer? Tough one to rate…

Jolly Christmas collection, not the best I've heard (or the worst), nothing at all to make this one stand out

Nice tunes for Christmas baking

3.5 I mean, it’s Christmas music - you know what you’re getting into here. It’s fun to get into the festive mood around the holiday, not quite as much fun any other time of the year… like January when I’m listening right now (tbf this should have been rated and reviewed on or around Christmas so that’s on me). That all being said, if there’s any one Christmas album you should probably listen to outside of Elvis’ and Bing Crosby’s, it’s probably this one - It’s full of all-time Christmas classics that are much more fun and upbeat than a great deal of the more Jesus-focused stuff. The Ronettes are standouts here, and it’s no mystery why their songs are the ones we still commonly hear on contemporary Christmas radio today, though that being said, this collection does in fact contain my all-time favorite Christmas song in Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love - I bumped up to 3.5 from my initial 3 from the inclusion of that song alone. I would probably never put this on unless hosting a holiday party, but I can’t argue it’s definitely a good vibe for December, and yes, I’m in the camp of not wanting to hear any of this before Thanksgiving. Kinda interesting such a cheery record was released on the same day as the Kennedy assassination (also the same day as With the Beatles!), but that was probably an omen for the murderous piece of shit Phil Spector would become. Anyway, Merry Belated Christmas everyone! Favorite songs: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), Frosty the Snowman, Sleigh Ride, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

its Christmas

A better version of Christmas music including great performances by Darlene Love and Ronnie Spector

This one only took one listen to get. Fun versions of Christmas songs that sound like anything else Phil Spector produced during this period. This turning of classics into "modern" sounding songs might have been more fun when this came out if it wasn't the day JFK was assassinated.

Probably the best versions of most of these songs, but listening after Christmas, the charm is a little lessened

As far as Christmas music goes, not bad.

Beginning to think this isn't random

Low rating only due to Phil Spector's involvement, otherwise this is an incredible record.

I was prepared to not like this album, but in listening realized that the Spector Wall of Sound versions of these Christmas tunes are actually the ones I enjoy the most. So actually a pretty enjoyable listen.

Classic

This album is all Christmas songs sung by various artists. I enjoyed listening to it especially the Ronettes. The reason I gave it a 3 is because there is nothing that made the album amazing, It was very cheery and fun to listen to but nothing the really stood out.

a classic christmas album full of perfect christmas hits and it’s a must on any christmas radio. a bit crazy that a convicted murderer made such a cheery record.

Groovy 60s X-Mas! The ideal music for a Christmas cocktail party.

The best songs of the albums are by the ronettes, and christmas by darlene love its perfect

it is what it is

I was reading my colleagues review and they mentioned. "If I'd had to listen to this in July I can imagine it losing a star..." Well it's April for me and here I am listening to a Christmas Album from 1963. I must say as far as Christmas Albums goes this is pretty good so it's not going in the trashfire. But it's certainly not an album that's going on my listen to again list. No particular favourites, all well known tunes.

I don't have anything bad or good to say about this album. It's Christmassy songs. That's all there is to it, at least for me.

Nice sound even if christmas music is not my favorite. very influential sound indeed

Great holiday album. I feel like i've heard all these song before just from watching Home Alone and Home Alone 2.

sentimental nostalgia xmas tunes produced by a convicted murderer. pretty nice, but I was checking my watch by the latter half of this album.

I understand the importance of Christmas music in our culture... but I am not seeing what really stands out about this Christmas album specifically. This sounds nice but I wouldn't seek it out to listen to it. Favorites: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

received this on boxing day so the mood has passed a bit but good Christmas music, might come back to next year

A classic Christmas album, Phil Spector is unfortunate though…

Got this on Dec 24th. Perfect timing! Enjoyable album - nothing special about it, but sets the Xmas mood

It’s a fine Christmas album, but only a few tracks are the “definitive” versions that I would include on a playlist

Well, it's Christmas music. So I feel like you either like it or not. But the wall of sound does lend itself well to this genre. Love Darlene loves Christmas, but otherwise I'm not a huge fan of Xmas music so I probably won't listen to this album for another year. Also mixed feelings about how terrible of a person Phil spector was, so I guess there's that.

Good for christmas time.

I'm not usually a fan of Christmas records, though the Ventures and Los Straitjackets do a smash-up job with their instro-versions. That being said, I was skeptical and though some of the songs are a little too sappy for my taste, there are some great songs on here. A bonus star for the spoken-work message to end the record from producer/convicted murderer, Phil "the kill" Spector. Boy, have times changed!

Merry Christmas. It's a fine idea listening to these songs. Thank you.

Don't really know how to score this album. It was pretty good for a Christmas album, but I don't particularly like Christmas music. The last track with Phil Spector was creepy.

some great singers and well produced songs, but phil spector

merry chrysler

To all a good night....

24th December 2021 Listened in the morning while chilling in bed at Guy's! It's a classic Christmas album.

Got me into the Christmas spirit even though it is currently the end of March. 1RS

Probably the best sounding and arranged version of all of these songs. Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers is a weak song in general, even with the Phil Spector treatment. During the holiday season this is a 5, post holidays its a 3

I'm sure it's classic but I can't listen to Christmas music on January 4th. I'll come back to this next year XD

Better than what we listened during Xmas dinner

Ja gut, Phil Spector eben. Nie ganz schlecht.

Christmas tunes, they're always just fine

christmas music sucks but this was actually pretty enjoyable.

A nice little christmas album. I enjoyed most of the songs here with only a few of them being duds. I could see myself listening to this more often next holiday season, because I enjoyed these covers more than the versions of these songs I normally hear.

A classic Christmas album. Not bad for this old grouch.

Holds a lot of classic Christmas tunes. Good vibes for the holiday season

Pretty decent Christmas album. But wouldn't kill for it.

A very pleasant Christmas gift. A lot of the classics. Still a convicted murderer.

It's like a "best of" for all those 60's girl groups. The "Wall of Sound" over production got to be a little annoying by the end.

Nothing says Merry Christmas like an album from a convicted murderer! Well, he was good at what he did! It's a great sounding album.

This is a classic and has a lot of sentimental value for me and my family. A good listen every year at the holidays

Unoriginal

3.2 - it’s a Christmas album, a genre I’m not too big on. But it’s a solid one that I’ll be returning to on a likely annual basis.

Decent Christmas songs. Good mixing. Too bad he murdered someone.

Do I punish this album because of the serial abuser and murderer PS??? It’s a fine Christmas album full of fun boppy old time classics, and each of these artists deserve air time. I’ll be blocking Silent Night from any future plays.

Good rambunctious xmas music. Shame about Phil.

Classic Phil Spector sound. Certainly iconic, but I have a hard time separating the music from the man. In general I am not much of a pop christmas music fan. 3/5.

It's OK - an interesting artefact

Good but too familiar

I wonder if there will be more Christmas albums on Christmas day in the next few years, and I wonder what they would be. Pretty innovative, even though Phil Spector is terrible.

I'm starting to have doubts that the generator is as random as it says it is... I ain't gonna be no Scrooge McDuck about this album, it's good old-fashioned festive fun for all the family. A few of these recordings still seem to be the definitive versions that get played nowadays.

I was surprised a Christmas album was on here (though not surprised at the timing of its appearance). I guess it's got good energy, vocals, and musical arrangements. I've just never been much for Christmas music, even if tis the season. Bah humbug.

My overall reaction is that I'm not sure I needed to hear this before I die, but it's a good album. I decided to dig deeper and learn more about Phil Spector, both his career and his personal life. Here's yet another example where we have to ask the question, can you separate the art from the artist? The guy was a complete piece of shit and died in jail, convicted of killing a woman the same night he met her (he claimed it was an accident, but he had a history of brandishing guns at people). Does that change the music? The production quality and the innovative "Wall of Sound"? No, but it gives you pause. One other note - Clever move by the site organizer to make sure everyone gets this pick on Christmas. Send the guy some beer money for the holidays.

Nice compilation, mostly enjoyable christmas music.

Bit annoyed that I was trying to escape Christmas music and this came up but hey ho, would've been weird to get it in July I suppose. Almost offensively sweet and twee but pretty on trend.

Classic

twee dagen te laat!

I came to the 1001 Generator on this Christmas Eve seeking an escape from Christmas music. And what do I find? Christmas music!? This is not a randomly generated album! Sure, there are some classics here. And sure, there is the undoubtedly influential “Wall of Sound,” though I couldn’t tell you what it actually sounds like. But the spirit of the random generator has been violated! Bah humbug!

Listening to jaunty Christmas music in March (because I forgot to rate the album when it came up on Christmas) is weird. It is marginally less weird than the out of tune Christmas music that emanates from the run-down ice cream truck that rolls through my neighborhood on sunny days. Some of these (Christmas (Baby Please Come Home and Winter Wonderland) are the tracks that you hear ubiquitously as soon as Halloween is over and some I had never heard (and really never need to hear again). I will stick to listening to Christmas music during the month of December (except for the ice cream truck).

This is a really good Christmas album. There are fresh takes on some classics. But I really don’t want a Christmas gift from Phil Spector. Even before the murder of Lana Clarkson, he was a POS according to his ex-wives, ex-girlfriends, and children. Forgetting Phil Spector the person, I would not listen to this 11 months out of the year because, well, we need a break from Christmas. I’m happy to listen again in 11 months if somebody digs this up.

i mean it’s a christmas album so how good can it be…? but it was fun and good to listen to and not snooze worthy.

Phil Crowe’s Christmas staple. Played to death

Seasonal entertainment.

Didn't sound any different from the 'standard' Christmas stuff.

Bit too American and secular for my Christmas tastes and all these songs have been overused in films. But it's good

Christmas init

It's Christmas innit. Not even the best Christmas songs

Love Christmas music

Classic Christmas!

"A Christmas Gift For You" presented to you by a convicted murderer! Also, I find the lack of "Mele Kalikimaka" disturbing...

It's a fun Christmas album, but still a Christmas album. I'm not someone who listens to certain music in certain seasons, other than at Christmas of course. I knew the majority these songs, and they are Christmas classics. A really good Christmas album is still just a Christmas album. I would never have much use for it outside of the season. Due to this I can't really rate it highly, even though it does what it should really well.

Good albums with great songs. Poor timing, though.

The production is innovative and influential. It is not really a Christmas album but more of a 60's pop album. The famous wall of sound sounds today a bit too monochromatic .

Proper classic Christmas tunes. Brought us back from not feeling very Christmassy!

Do I want to listen to a Christmas album...hmmm...Probably not...I never really liked 'the wall of sound' thing...it feels like coercive control...it feels like control...YOU WILLL LISTEN TO THIS...I suppose...and then he went to jail for murder...charming

Gute Soul-Weihnachstplatte.

Perfectly pleasant, but, well, Christmas music. The talking part by Phil Spector 1) surprised me that he sounds like such a dweeb and 2) is painfully awkward.

Really not into Christmas music, but in general this was OK because of the motown vibe and talent behind the music.

Good for christmas

I reallt don't like christmas music, but that doesn't make it a bad album.

A Christmas album on Christmas. Some solid standards here, in spite of whose name in on it.

Better than most - where are the women who can sing like that today? Too many autotuned megastars, too few Darlene Love's or Aretha's

Well - it was painful but this IS the definitely Christmas album in my book. and the wall of sounds cuts through and it does have some personality - so while did not wholly enjoy it due to my disdain for Christmas songs - it does have substance in its own way

Its an Xmas album.

Nice one

Fine Christmas music compilation

Thanks Santa

A great selection of festive themed music, a little bit cheesy. Ideal for background music not something I would choose otherwise.

Classics performed well, I tolerate Christmas music, but I hated listening to album of them one after the other

Don't let Phil ruin Christmas for you, skip the last track. Lovely collection of songs, fantastic vocals and an amazing array of talent on display. It will be nice to get this on vinyl to play next Christmas. To its negative it is just a Christmas album so the appeal is limited. Spector has pulled out the stops with his wall of sound. In places it takes the songs to an amazing level, in others it sounds like a flat mess with the sounds cancelling each other out

Whimsy fun.

My years in retail mostly beat any affection for Christmas music out of me. But as these albums go, this is one of the best.

98. Phil Spector ***** up Christmas - Various Artists 13 tracks. When Phil came up with this idea, he should have immediately shelved it once it became known that he couldn't get Bing Crosby to sing White Christmas. It should be illegal for anyone other than him to sing it. He didn't even try to snooze us into thinking that Bing was on there and we had just missed it. He actually got someone else to sing it. (I feel sorry for poor Darlene Love). Phil is going straight to hell for that one. Picture it now. Christmas morning around an open fire. Kids are excitedly laughing and opening their present, Gran is telling everyone that it's never too early for a drink and the next thing you know someone other than Bing Crosby, (forgive me Father because Phil Sector did the sinning rather than me), is signing White Christmas. Now the kids are crying, Gran says she had more fun last Christmas when Grandad died of Covid on his own because that cunt Boris Johnson made us all isolate while he threw parties in Downing Street and the Mrs is giving me daggers and telling me should have left me long ago. Thanks Phil. Happy Fucking Christmas! 3/5

wow. much christmas very christmas

Definitely my favourite xmas album produced by a convicted murderer.

Un clásico

It's Christmas music. There's not much else to it.

Some nice versions of pop Christmas classics all with that distinctive Phil Specttor touch. Your Christmas celebration will be richer if this album is added to your holiday playlist

Was it deliberately seeded that this would be generated on Christmas Eve? Anyway. These are some of the best renditions of these classic Christmas songs ever recorded... but they're still just Christmas songs. Hard album to rank.

It was nice. But generic Christmas music, nothing really stood out.

A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector was a new album for me, although I have heard some of the individual tracks as part of the regular rotation on the radio stations playing Christmas music in December. The Ronettes might be the only artist on the album that I recognized by name. The album was okay, but I'm not sure what I would come back for, for a second listen.

Haha got this dec 25th! This most be planned by the creator, nice. Or else it's a crazy coincidence. No matter what I'm not about to give a five to a mediocre christmas compilation produced by a convicted murderer. But a 4 will do. Eh a 3

Normal Christmas stuff

had my fill of xmas music for a bit

honestly, i had no idea phil spector sounded so much like david sedaris. like...uncanny. anyway, buncha old-school christmas music. not bad at all - and certainly it's cool to hear a little more directly, as it were, from a person who had such an impact on literally decades' worth of music

Christmas songs

Pretty good Christmas album, lots of the classic hits you'd want to hear around Christmas. Not that remarkable for a standalone album

Good Christmas soundtrack but nothing special about it.

it is a christmas album

Cute! A classic Christmas album.

If it were still Christmas, i would give it three stars

Merry xmas

100% christmas

Julsång moment

Christmas songs with Phil Spector’s production. A very pleasant christmas gift

Lite utmattande men daskare

Christmas as we know it. Classy arrangements, bright harmonies, but is not my favorite music. (funny side note today is the 25.12.2021) (5/10) FT: White Christmas

Some nice versions of pop Christmas classics all with that distinctive Phil Specttor touch. Your Christmas celebration will be richer if this album is added to your holiday playlist

Who knew all these canonical versions came from a single compilation?

In a vaccuum this is a 4 star album; it has solid performances and a fun sound that holds up and doesn't overstay its welcome. However, two major things hold it back: Firstly, it is a Christmas album. I won't get any joy busting this bad boy out in February. Secondly, I don't want any Christmas gifts from such a raging, irredeemable asshole as Phil Spector.

Saved Prior: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Off Rip: Sleigh Ride, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Circling back to this one now that it's mid-December. Wall of Sound is definitely an apt description of this style of recording and music. Iconic. Weird dude Phil Spector, but highly influential and I gotta give him props for that. For me personally, I'll take Baby Please Come Home from this album and go.

Gezellig!🎅

6/10. Good Christmas music, but not a stand-out in my mind in any way.

Man bekommt vielstimmig, was man einstimmig erwartet. Einstimmig fantastische Songs sind Young mit „Helpless“, Opener „Carry on“ und Titelsong „Deja Vu“. Zeitlos 3.4

I’ll separate the music producer genius from the piece of shit here. There are only two Christmas albums that I can stand listening to, this one and Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas. I must say the Wall of Sound here is amazing. Reading Wiki its also incredible how many other artists that he influenced. I love Veronica Bennett’s (the Ronnettes) voice. This is a classic Christmas record for a reason, but I did get creeped out when we got a personal message from Spector at the end of the record though.

There's no way this was a coincidence right

See also : the Motown Christmas album

Very good christmas album. Darlene Love had probably the best tracks on it but it was good overall.

Didn't look at this until boxing day so not in a great place to give it my full attention. Also Phil Spector was an absolute nut case

Not sure I quite get why this is on the list. Influential I suppose. It's good... it's a Christmas album.

Nostalgic. Unfortunately I can't listen to it for more than 10 minutes before I want to throw it in the fireplace.

good christmas album

Decent.

Haha! Middle of the road for a Christmas album. 2.5/5.

Great and fun collection.

for the music alone im happy christmas is only 2 days a year. but its not that annoying

Julealbum, mange klassikere

So. Much. Woodblock. Pretty good for a Christmas album, if a bit uneven. Almost dropped it to a 2 because of the final track. Best track: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Not sure why this is here it’s a run of the mill Christmas album. Also getting it on Christmas makes the random aspect sus, unless it’s just holidays?

Classic Christmas album according to my pops

Dude, I'm not about to listen to a Christmas album in almost February. I'm sure it's good. The artists are legendary. So I'll give it a 6.5

December 25th. A Christmas album. Standout Tracks: The Bells of St. Mary, A Marshmallow World, Winter Wonderland, Here Comes Santa Claus, Silent Night

I generally detest Christmas music, but this was above average.

Very appropriate for a mid-February afternoon listening session! Joking aside, it's no Nat King Cole

I’m not really a Christmas music fan, and most of these aren’t the versions you typically hear, so it’s not something I’m really interested in to be honest.

A few classic Christmas songs quite nostalgic HATEEEEEE SILENT NIGHTTT JUST NO

Rating this low only because Christmas albums are always a cash in. There's a reason why thrift stores everywhere are always filled with christmas album vinyl. Even the people creating it know it's a paycheck. This has that Phil Spector sound you can hear that inspired Brian Wilson. I guess that is something to say about it.

Got it after Christmas, tough beat

Even on Christmas Day, which this very unrandomly is, I don’t want to listen to Christmas music.

good, not mine

This album must have killed it during its time just like Phil Spector did….

2/5. Good album, but major points taken away because this album didn’t age well (and so didn’t Phil Spektor).

Album No. 0104 on my list. Ho ho ho! There it is, the inevitable Christmas album on Christmas. I’m not really sure how to possibly rate this. For a start, this is an album nobody would ever listen to 11/12 months of every year. And in addition, well, it the main artist is one of the most important producers of all time, but also a murderer… then again… Phil Spector doesn’t even appear himself in the songs themselves (except on the last track)… Okay… anyway… this album contains a lot of Christmas classics in a very consistent early 60s style. I don’t particularly like that style, and not all songs are that great. I.e., for many of the songs there are versions that I like better. “Sleigh Ride” by the Ronettes is probably the song I’ve been most familiar with, but I don’t like the song that much. Instead, I’ll add “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” (again by the Ronettes), and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by the Crystals to my playlist. In essence, it’s two stars for me. Not a bad album, but also not a collection of super great Christmas songs, and the fact that it’s a Christmas album indeed leads to a somewhat lower rating for me. I get that the whole thing was very innovative at the time of release, I just don’t find it all that good. 2/5 stars.

I just hate Christmas music. It's astoundingly rare for me to enjoy any of it. I like Xmas things in general, especially the hokey old Rankin/Bass cartoons, and the songs in them. Some of this might be decent music, but I really had to skip through most of the songs, maybe halfway through. Also not a huge fan of pop, especially 50's and 60's pop. So, this is going to get a 2 because I know that while it's not for me, some people love both of those things. And it's not bad bad or anything. I just hate it. Happy holiday to you all, anyway!

Iconic classic band sound that has endured for decades but at the end of the day these songs are only good for a month and are about snowmen and reindeer.

I've got behind, and now I'm all Christmassed out, so I can't be arsed with this. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ❌️ Revisit ❌️ Default ★★☆☆☆ (4/10)

Darlene Love is great, and I'm glad I didn't have to listen to this at a different time of year, but it's still Christmas music

Basic Christmas album. Nothing exceptional so unclear why this is on the list.

It is not bad, but kt doesn't surpass the feelingvof mediocre Christmas music. Sure there are many worse Christmas songs than those on this album. But I don't think Phil Spector achieved what he wanted to acheive

I don't like Christmas music. I really don't like it after Christmas. At least it isn't terrible Christmas music.

How do you rate an album by a convicted killer? Funnily enough, the production is the weakest part: Darlene Love knocks it out of the park over & over and the Ronettes are on fire. Bob B. Soxx isn't that great, though. A strong three, but Spector's.. er .. spectre drags it down to a two.

I honestly hate Christmas music, so this was a struggle to get through.

Ludnica.

Listens: 1 Standout Tracks: None I could get behind the idea of the creator of this site manipulating the randomness of the List to feed me an album from the List when a musician died (like Ozzy Osbourne or Brian Wilson), but I am not going to listen to a Christmas-themed various artists album on Christmas Eve. I have been blasted by god-damned Christmas songs since the day after Thanksgiving and I am fucking done. I suppose it would be weird for this album to come up in July or March, but I honestly would rather that have been the case. Also, at least it's not Mariah Carey (but I am sure that will be the album next year or something like that). ~22 Hours Later: I reluctantly listened to this album today, not because I changed my mind on the quality and quantity of Christmas music I've heard over the past 40 days, but because I came here to listen to new music, and to be open to all music, even if I don't end up enjoying it. That being said, what I heard on this album was in no sense mind blowing or a revelation. Most of the tracks I have heard before: over the radio, through mall speakers and cheesy hallmark movies, etc. and for those songs I haven't heard, well, they were more or less the same as those I have.

Classic Christmas songs. Great, just what I need. At least these are slightly less annoying versions of the same junk. Still the same junk though.

This is a compilation album. Shouldn't be on the list but regardless of that there aren't many great christmas songs on this. It gets a 2 for the few that there is on it

Christmas

Secular Christmas songs produced well. It is a wall of sound though perhaps not fury produced by an idiot, signifying nothing. Surely a beloved classic of white baby boomers settling down for their seventh child's first Christmas, in their third house which they bought for $2000 at age 24. Merry Christmas!

Christmas music is fine

Sleigh Ride and 12 other songs. I'm not too fond of Phil Spector's wall of sound when it's not on George Harrison's music.

i don't feel a lot of festivity since i don't celebrate christmas so this album falls a little flat. good music though, homey and full of fluff.

Christmas, innit?

I hate Christmas

Christmas classic

All the holiday classics that you hear every year. Has a limited scope of when you can listen to this (on Christmas Day, like when I was generated this album). Ranking a little lower since its holiday specific music.

Typical Christmas music, but here it has the charm of dispelling gloom when the family is driving everyone crazy over Christmas.

mixed bag, not a fan

Lip Bozicni album, samo sto sam ja veliki grinch i ovo mi nije nikakav gust slusat Al pisme su dobro opjevane, neki Frank Sinatra njujorski Bozic, kuzim vajb, nije moj vibe

I hate Christmas music. No amount of talent in performance or production/engineering techniques will change this.

it’s a Christmas album, Mary what you want me to say

🥇frosty the snowman 🥈christmas (baby please come home) 🥉sleigh ride LOOK i just don’t like christmas songs…

Christmas music is something I rarely play voluntarily. Most of these songs and versions are well known and they are okay. Nothing more, nothing less.

i don’t love but also don’t hate christmas songs, so i don’t have a favourite really

Makes some of the generally awful Christmas standards relatively listenable to.

19. didnt like it didnt hate it

Man I wrote a whole review and saved it but for some reason when it reloaded it brought me back to the review I had written for my previous album. Not sure what’s up with that, but this is certainly not Ragged Glory by Neil Young so I’m gonna have to just re-write this as a summary: It’s a Christmas album produced by a murderer. The songs are all covers everyone knows by heart. It’s impossible to review this thing objectively. I am not inherently anti-Christmas music. Carol the Bells and Little Drummer Boy absolutely slap. Most of the hymns do as well. Even the more secular and contemporary stuff can be good. But god, hearing Phil Spector talk over Silent Night does not make me very holly jolly—nor does the obvious financial motivation behind this album. Darlene Love was the only good part. She has such an impressive voice. Sorry for the negativity, have a great Christmas.

These singers are wonderful - this is a cool choice for a Christmas record. But.... I guess for some people, no matter how many times they hear "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" in a given season they're still always filled with warm nostalgia for childhood Christmas mornings, and can't wait to hear it again. Aw, and now here's Frosty! They love that song! But honestly, me? I really would be glad to never hear about Frosty again. And now it's the end of the season, when I'm looking forward to not hearing any of it for another 11 months. (Plus, Phil Spector, eew.) They should have given me this record on December 1; I might have given it a 3 then. 2/5

Just fine.

Merry Xmas, peace and love to everyone. Except Phil Spector, he's on Santa's Naughty List.

- Classic songs, but most of them are in that nasal or yell-y high vocal register that sounds thin and bothers me. I definitely prefer other Christmas albums. - The majority of the artists, etc on this 1001 albums list are total creeps who I’ve boycotted (I can separate the artist from the music in terms of deciding if it’s good music or not/rating it for it’s musical appeal, but I can’t/won't separate the artist from the music in terms of supporting it), but this is especially egregious - a Christmas album from a psychopath with songs featuring the woman whose life he completely tried to ruin (I guess at least it didn’t include songs from the woman he murdered…)? Hard no.

74/1001 First listen. Haven’t ever heard a good Christmas album. If you’re going to listen to Christmas music, it’s gotta be a playlist. 4/10

Álbum navideño. No me llegó. 3/10

It's fine in the background at Xmas at a suitably low volume .

I don't really understand why this is in here. Even setting aside the fact that it's novelty music, it's just not that good. It doesn't make sense to me. Favorites: Sleight Ride, Winter Wonderland

Actually a good set of Christmas songs, but I hate Christmas music.

It's a Christmas album. It's fine, but nothing amazing.

What a killer collection of Christmas tunes! Spector certainly picked a bunch of quality tunes and artists to murder your eardrums with! In truth, it's a Christmas album, you've heard the songs before, they're fine. What more is there to say? Best songs: I mean, they're just going on in the background anyway, so is it worth picking favourites?

It was a Christmas album.

You can tell they're not smiling while they sing...not jolly at all. Were they okay?

1.5 (34:12, 13 tracks, 1963, N/A) Christmas OK this doesn't belong on this list for a lot of reasons 1.) It isn't all that great. As far as Christmas compilations go there are better. (Nonetheless Rolling Stones put it as the 142nd greatest album of all time? Compilation albums are barred from this list, if compilation albums are allowed I can think of 500 "greatest hits" albums that should be on this list (I realized this was released as an individual album but still - stretching it 3.) Phil Specter - eewww These aside Specter adds his 'wall of sound' to Christmas and I guess in 1963 THERE wasn't much better. People like this album. I don't see me returning to it. Best Christmas Album Vince Guaraldi Trio (A Charlie Brown Christmas)

I suppose it isn't surprising that I get a Christmas album on Christmas. What's more surprising, perhaps, is that this was on the list at all. It's well made, but it's still Christmas music, and therefore not essential listening for anyone. The singing is great, and the production is also great. However, I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music, and this is Christmas music made by a literal murderer. So I have to pass on this one.

160/1089 (xmas day 2025) i mean, nice xmas classics but rating a seasonal album/compilation like this is always kinda awkward bc ofc i like the songs but only in a specific context for a specific period of time… That said, the songs DO hold up and are pretty timeless

No thanks to Phil Spector. I do love the Ronnettes though.

Solid old school Christmas album.

Album goes hard 3 days a year

Eh. It's fine. Don't kill me Phil.

Bah, humbug. I did get through the whole thing at least, so go me. I'm now off to drown myself in black metal.

Some decent covers but this was just ok

There’s no reason why anyone should own this or ever want to put it on. Great production though.

Production's good, but vaguely sounds like a felony

It's March and I don't feel like listening to Christmas music.

I don't feel the jolly no more.

I feel like this was an overall solid cover of the classics, the production was not the best songs. There were multiple people choose different versions to listen to over this, I’ve given it.

Exactly what you'd expect.

Release too early to include the best Christmas songs, which as a genre peaked in 1973. Also Phil Spector killed someone, but then he isn’t the only person in this list who has. It’s fine.

Good enough for a Christmas album

I guess if there has to be a Christmas album, this one isn’t too bad. But it came on a bad year, where I’ve become more cynical about the holiday than ever.

Interesting history, but I really hate how many times I've heard these songs.

2,5 stars it's christmas songs, it's good, but can't give more

A Christmas Album

As I have a habit of saying, I don't really care.

It’s a compilation of covers !!!

No Compilation album will score higher than 2. No Christmas album will score higher than 2. Them's the brakes.
