I actually got this album at Christmas time and I still hate it. Surely one of the worst genres.
A little weird and offputting hearing Phil Spector's message at the end of what was otherwise an incredible Christmas album
A rare example of a compilation on this challenge, though it could be thought of as a Phil Spector album, given his heavy involvement and his name on the title. This album is at once a showcase of his "wall of sound" recording style, an extremely modern sound for the time of its release in 1963, and contains a number of songs still held up as modern Christmas classics. Given what Phil Spector would later become, it feels odd to associate him with the holiday. But honestly, it's hard to think of a more iconic Christmas collection than this one.

Most know selected tunes. Listening to them in the length of an album they don't make much sense as a collection. Just to similar in its Spector sound. OK but not on my list of great Christmas albums.

Generated on Xmas day but I actually am listening to this on 15 January. It’s a great Christmas album but … the final track with the murderer speaking and thanking us for listening is not exactly merry! Considering he not only murdered one woman but also imprisoned and psychologically tortured his wife, and facilitating the sexual abuse of his children …… Well, it makes me glad he’s dead so I can listen to this album without worrying about finding someone as evil as that. Could be 5 stars in another world but in this one I just can’t give that to him.
It’s fun that this was generated today for everyone, but the actually good Christmas album I discovered this season is Ho! Ho! Hoey! by Gary Hoey
The production is really nice and full. It’s just hard to enjoy because these songs are overplayed to death every single year. I cannot escape them, so why would I want to listen to them by choice?
The sound was good considering it was the early 1960s and Phil Spector produced it but these songs were wayyy too kitsch for me, even if I usually love listening to Christmas songs. As a European I can't stand this sort of kitsch.

This combines two of my least favorite things: Christmas Songs and Phil Spector's Wall of Sound. I did my best, and it's most saving grace is being relatively short, but this provokes such a negative visceral response in me.

Even outside the season, this is still a wonder. All classics, lightning in a bottle.
If I didn't work in retail, and have to hear these songs several times a night in the run up to Christmas, I may have been more generous. But probably not.

As good a Christmas album as there is. That said, this is still a Christmas album and it involves one of the creepiest dudes to work in the music industry, so, yeah, not my favorite thing. I’ll listen to it next year around this time, probably, but definitely not adding to my non Christmas playlist.

Lots of great versions of classic songs here. This version of 'Sleigh Ride' took the original Leroy Anderson piece to the next level. Phil Spector himself is undeniably deranged but the quality of the music is irrefutable.

This would be great in a Christmas setting, but not optimal to listen to back to back by yourself. I enjoyed the songs I recognized, the rest sounded pretty similar given the theme.

Maybe it’s the Buck’s Fizz talking but I’ve really loved this! Phil Spector produced some absolute bangers! Like he wrote the Christmas style I feel. Loved the album and it’s being played every year! Ending on was just a lovely way to the album. Another 10/10

It's Christmas! Didnt know anything about Phil Spector, that's kind of crazy. The music is pretty good for Christmas music, don't know if I'll add any of this to my main rotation since it's seasonal, however.

Probably the best a Christmas album can be, and the best representation of Phil Spector’s “Wall of sound” production style. Every song sounds full which is perfect for the holiday. Christmas(Baby Please Come Home) is an all time great Christmas song.

A lesson for all mixers and producers
Theres a cynical trend of hating christmas music that seems to come around every year, but i think its wonderful to have a canon of songs everyone knows and can sing together during a time when its important to connect to each other beyond the superficial. Traditions and rituals are largely lost to us as a society, but christmas songs are perhaps one of the last vestiges of that. That being said this has the definitive renditions of so many of these that youre never going to be amiss putting this on at a holiday party. The one original is a banger as well and has since become a classic in its own right, something many christmas albums fail to do so on that alone i must commend it. Merry christmas to all and to all a good night

I was kind of shy about giving this one a 5, but its kind of a 5 right? The best Christmas album of all time? I mean a new Christmas tradition was born for me.

shout out to the horses whinnying at the beginning of "Sleigh Ride" i'm a fan of this style of musical production, but not a fan of christmas music, so i'm having a hard time figuring out how to rate this. it's all quite familiar, in a way that makes me feel like i'm in a mall in december, and its odd hearing such talented vocalists singing such dirt-simple songs as "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer." but in terms of christmas music, it could be much, much worse. i'm rating this before the album is finished and i'm not going to make myself listen to the rest.

Phil Spector sucks obviously. (which is an understatement), but this album is a classic! I associate the music on here with so many good memories, and it has so many talented singers and musicians. -1 star for the track of Phil Spector speaking.
Yeah! Ok! I think a lot of Christmas music doesn't sound like fully produced music and this was consistently fun, well done, and had good soulful vocals.
A lot of Christmas albums are just not that good, but this one is solid all the way through. Spector does a great job of combining his distinct sound and 1960s modern flair to Christmas classics. It's what the Beach Boys wanted to do with their album, maybe.
I can say I listened to at least one xmas album by a murderer I guess. as a holiday themed album its pretty lame, Christmas Interpretations by Boyz II Men is one of only a handful of good choices for the genre.

I don’t have a lot of patience for Christmas music, but this did sound pleasant in a Spector-doing-his-thing way, and my kids did have a fun time dancing around to it, so I guess it did its job. Not bad!
A kind of strange thing to exist but performances are strong. The outro voice over has a strange energy that I'd expect from Phil Spector.

Everything was technically good, I just wasn’t too into it. I would give it a 5/10, but I’m going to remove a point solely because it was made by a convicted murderer. Такая сладкая подборочка песен, все классические, все позитивные... причём несмотря на то, что всё это исполнения разных групп - звучит очень однородно. Возможно стоит рассматривать этот сборник, как такой "трушный" американский голубой огонёк? За песни 5, за нахождение в этом списке пожалуй 1.

Interesting….
Listening to this while waiting for the train after a Christmas shift is something that I'm sure will become a nice memory somewhere in the not-too-distant future. To my non-American musical sensibilities, however, I must admit that I find the songs on here to be about as unsynonymous with the holiday season as humanly possible. What really offends is how indistinguishable the vocals and instrumentals are between songs, save for some of the hookier parts of the choruses. This album screams 'produced' to me more than any other album I've heard, with how little of a vision there is and how corporate the nature of it's existence is. Can't say I agree with the decision to lump this in with many of the greatest albums ever made sheerly for the modicum of cultural relevance that it has. ==================== Edit (8th of July, 2025): Okay, I was a little grinchy with my initial assessment of this album. It's perfectly fine. I just hadn't considered how long the 1-star list would be on my summary page if I rated every album that didn't interest me one star. While I enjoyed the timing of this coming up, it feels like a strange inclusion for the list. Are there really many people who die without having heard this dozen or so schmaltzy Christmas standards? It’s essentially the 1960s edition of Now That’s What I Call Christmas so of course it contains all the festive classics but it feels out of place in the project for me. The narrated final track ruins Silent Night as well, sadly, and has me reaching for Simon & Garfunkel’s version to cleanse my palate. Roll on, Boxing Day. 2/1001

A bunch of classics in . I appreciated that most of the songs were secular. It’s crazy how so many of these songs are still listened to regularly even though the recording and production quality is so bad.

I missed rating this on Christmas and decided to return to it on October 29th for some reason. It's Christmas music so I mean, how can you really critique it? We all know these songs but outside of the Christmas season nobody is listening to this. An album of Christmas music really should not be included in this list of albums to listen to before you die and on that basis alone I'm giving this 1 star.
It’s always fun to hear Christmas songs in a difficult genre, unfortunately this is a genre that I kind of detest.

Some of these songs have been covered tens of thousands of times and the versions of them on this album are some of the best ever done, if not the best. This is an absolute monster of an album. The only downsides are 1) they’re Christmas songs and so you can only listen to them a few weeks a year and 2) Phil Spector being a murderer. Other than that, a perfect album.

It's the same eight songs covered by 93,765 artists -- most songs sound the same, though some artists want to put their own "spin" on the song. I'm not sure which strategy is more annoying. I don't particularly like 50s pop. This album is filled with, what I presume to be, big-time 50s pop stars. The Ronettes & Darlene Love do most of the lifting here, and it's...sigh. Look, I don't want to give it one star, but there's nothing here for me. I don't know who these artists are, and the songs I do know I've heard a million times, and most of these songs are essentially indistinguishable from anything I've ever heard before. I'll give it 2 stars because I feel guilty giving it 1 star, but, yeah.
Refreshing to hear some of the older songs as we are constantly barraged by current day Christmas
It was pretty fitting that I got this album on Christmas. I recognized quite a few of these songs from this season listening to the radio. Very golden time of Christmas nostalgia. I got to sit and listen to this entire album while driving and it was a very pleasant end to the Christmas season.

This is a bunch of Christmas songs that everyone knows. All of them are secular and make no mention whatsoever to Christ. And almost all of them were written by Jews. Huh, what a coincidence. I'm sure they made a lot of money off this album.

This sounds great throughout. Love that wall of sound from the murderin' hair guy. I think a season album like this has limited upside, though. It's hard to really get behind something that I can only listen to one month out of the year. (The idea of Brian Wilson listening to this, his favorite album, in the middle of a balmy May day, is true psycho shit.)

Great album, horrible man. But hey can you rate someone based on their past work while forgiving their transgressions? Probably not. It hurts having to listen to magical songs knowing the man behind it was going to break down.
Christmassy
Ignoring the spectre of Spector, this album is pretty phenomenal. The quintessential version of that Christmas classic that you’ve got in your head? It’s on this album. Every single track. But Spector … yikes.

Not bad. The Phil Spector spoken word thing at the end is... ironic? Cool Christmas album for Christmas day! Some really fun uptempo high-energy stuff, lacking in sentimentalism, which I appreciate in a Christmas album.
The production on this still holds up great; it's no wonder many of these have become classics and are played year after year.
Lots of classic Christmas tunes I'd hear in the radio during the holidays. Didn't know these were all tied to Phil Spector. A bit of a Motown flavor.

I wish I would have known that this app sends you a Christmas album on Christmas, as I would have popped back in here to see what it was and make it a part of my holiday. Especially when it's going to recommend a classic such as this! Wasn't familiar with this album but I'm always welcoming of classic xmas tracks that aren't annoying new pop-remakes. Will certainly be in rotation next Christmas! Was kinda weird listening to this January 3rd but that's ok.
