Reviews (page 12 of 17)

I didn’t realise how old these Christmas classics were.

Well done but I'd settle for never listening to any of these ever again.

Should have listened to it a month ago I guess 😅

kinda funny. probably has some of the most wifey heard songs on here. it obviously is a needed classic and hard to rate within this context.

Phil's magic at Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!! I woke up this morning intrigued to see if I would get a Christmas themed album. Lo and behold, I was right. And in terms of Christmas songs, this has just about everything. This is a bit hard to review for me though. Because although this helped me get into the spirit a lot, and has pretty much every classic and essential Christmas song you can imagine on it, I still want to look at it as objectively as possible. And objectively, this isn’t bad, but I’m also not listening to it any other time of the year except for the week of Christmas. So it’s the best album per se, but it is a good collection of fun songs that fits the season. Since this is basically a compilation album, there is a variety of different artists on here. And the best songs are the ones that were made by The Ronettes and Darlene Love. Pretty much every song sounds the same, but these two particular artists have the best singers, who both also sound very similar, which puts them above the other two groups. Rating: 5/10

Serves a purpose. I listened a week after Christmas which may have hurt the rating.

All great Christmas staples, obviously only will listen to around Christmas, but when you do they’re fantastic. 3.3

Look lads, I don't have it in me for another set of christmas songs. Can we just leave it at 3 stars and call it even? thanks.

Ho ho ho.

It's a little cheesy especially with the spoken word bit at the end, but the production is nice and all the performances are good. Only problem is obviously you'll only want to listen to it in a period of about 2 weeks all year, but for what it is it's good.

This is the type of Christmas music I feel os stereotypical and therefore good

It's Christmas so I'm being VERY generous by giving this a 3 star rating. I would have preferred it without the creepy message at the end or some of the less well known songs replaced.

Definitely a Christmas album

Phil Spector is an utterly repugnant human being but the music is really good. So the marking is right down the middle. Merry Christmas.

Great Christmas music. A gift it is. From a Phil Spector. Great producer. Don't Google him though.

Most know selected tunes. Listening to them in the length of an album they don't make much sense as a collection. Just to similar in its Spector sound. OK but not on my list of great Christmas albums.

It’s fun that this was generated today for everyone, but the actually good Christmas album I discovered this season is Ho! Ho! Hoey! by Gary Hoey

Phil Spector is a fucking scumbag, Darlene Love is a national treasure! It's funky ass Christmas music, that SOB could really make great music, also, fuck that guy!

How do you judge this kinda music? You'll hear it every year whether you want to or not.

Great Xmas tunes

Nice collection of Holliday songs compiled by PS. A little old school for me but good. 3

Powerful Christmas album Phil really knew how to blaze a tune

It was just another Christmas album

As good a Christmas album as there is. That said, this is still a Christmas album and it involves one of the creepiest dudes to work in the music industry, so, yeah, not my favorite thing. I’ll listen to it next year around this time, probably, but definitely not adding to my non Christmas playlist.

phil spector killed - in both this album and in 2003

5/10 - These songs are overplayed and I would rather listen to like anything else but the songs are not bad. I like sleigh ride but other versions of it.

Better than most Christmas stuff, but generic 6/10, 7.5/10 on Christmas

Christmas songs for christmas!

Mirdy Crossbluss

Not into xmas music, but 60s/Motown versions make it fun. Maybe worth a spin on future holidays. 3.2

Not into Christmas music, but this is a good collection

Got some classic Christmas song on but some are not so good

It's Christmas! Didnt know anything about Phil Spector, that's kind of crazy. The music is pretty good for Christmas music, don't know if I'll add any of this to my main rotation since it's seasonal, however.

2.5 - Christmas song innit. I do think it would be higher if I’d listened on Christmas

I don't really like Christmas music, but I love The Wall of Sound. Tough call, but I'll settle on a 3.

3/5 I guess It's Christmas music

A kind of strange thing to exist but performances are strong. The outro voice over has a strange energy that I'd expect from Phil Spector.

Great production a couple of good versions. I'm more of a Bing Crosby Christmas album fan

The obvious issues with Phil Spector aside, this is a solid, albeit cheesy, Christmas album.

Nice Xmas album but nothing special. 2.8/5

If you want a classic Christmas album, this is the one 3.9

Pretty good as Christmas albums go. Darlene Love is the star.

A classic production sound with some even more classic songs. I will say though, being that this is Brian Wilson’s favorite album, it’s obvious it was more groundbreaking at the time it came out

Enjoyable because it’s all songs I know. The Ronettes are great.

Enjoyable Christmas music, I liked the Ronettes the most. 3.5

🎄 🕺🏻

its christmas music, also phil spector is a convicted murderer apparently idc that much ab christmas music, its fine 3/5

Some classic Christmas songs on here. Not my favorite of the Christmas song styles but always a joy.

Schlechter Sound, dürftige Interpreten

Ganz nett.

Didn't know all of the songs. Not a fan of all of them but nice compilation.

Nice old school Christmas album

Classic collection of Christmas songs. However holds no meaning to me because I don't celebrate Christmas and see it as an enjoyable day.

Good X-mas album. Enjoyed it

Not too much into Xmas songs but those were pretty cool…

Christmas songs. Okay…

Love the sound. Spector was maybe crazy. But he knew how to record great records.

Part of my next Christmas. Check.

Gute Xmas album

Cooles Konzept.

🎄🎅

Ziemlich oldschool. Aber: Echtes Weihnachtsfeeling.

The pure essence and magic of Christmas, with the amazing production of Phil Spector

Ok for the season.

Interesting….

A christmas album which is actually listenable! A rare, but welcome listen.

Merry Christmas!

A bunch of classics in . I appreciated that most of the songs were secular. It’s crazy how so many of these songs are still listened to regularly even though the recording and production quality is so bad.

Good selection of Christmas songs, short and sweet and all you need. Shame about Phil Spector though

Probably the best Christmas album I've heard.

A very enjoyable Christmas album, would definitely play this yearly. I can't rate xmas songs higher, but this is about perfect for what it is.

Absolute classic Christmas compilation - definitely should have listened on time

Not a fan of “the wall of sound” - it’s just too much, sounds washed out, and drowns the vocals. As far as a Christmas album, meh!

Actual good Christmas bg music

All American XMAS feeling <3

It do be a Christmas album.

Darlene is good, this is the perfect background Christmas album that requires little focus

Better than most versions of these songs but that's a pretty low bar to clear. Phil congratulating himself on the only track about Jesus seems pretty on brand.

Not really sure how to rate this one. Great Christmas classics, but how does one rate this against other non-holiday albums?

Some real Christmas bangers on here

I probably should have listened to this about a month ago during the full swing of Christmas spirit. But anyway, this would be a fine listen for the month of December. Nothing special, nothing bad. It's Christmas music, whaddya want.

It's a christmas album

this was a good xmas day spin

A solid Christmas album.

🎅🏿

Great Christmas album. Includes a few songs I consider the definitive versions like I Saw Mommy Kissing SC and Frosty the Snowman. Enjoyed it.

There is quite the story with this cat. Odd stuff.

A Classic

Solid Christmas album

Where da HoHoHoes at?!

joululaului lol :D

Average Christmas album

Pretty classic, well made

Refreshing to hear some of the older songs as we are constantly barraged by current day Christmas

yeah fine whatever

This sounds great throughout. Love that wall of sound from the murderin' hair guy. I think a season album like this has limited upside, though. It's hard to really get behind something that I can only listen to one month out of the year. (The idea of Brian Wilson listening to this, his favorite album, in the middle of a balmy May day, is true psycho shit.)

Great album, horrible man. But hey can you rate someone based on their past work while forgiving their transgressions? Probably not. It hurts having to listen to magical songs knowing the man behind it was going to break down.

It's a good Christmas album with timeless arrangements, but I've had enough of Christmas music. NO MORE!

ok for a christmas album

Not bad. The Phil Spector spoken word thing at the end is... ironic? Cool Christmas album for Christmas day! Some really fun uptempo high-energy stuff, lacking in sentimentalism, which I appreciate in a Christmas album.

classic Christmas tracks for the few days a year I’m in the mood for Xmas music

Christmas, Christmas, and more Christmas. Swingin holiday sounds from the 60s with such soul. Very quality Xmas album.

It was okay.

Great collection of Christmas classics. I could do without the Silent Night voice over but overall it's good for what it is.

7/10 White Christmass - 10/10 Frosty the Snow Man - 7/10 The Bells of St. Mary - 7/10 Santa Claus is Coming to Town - 7/10 Sleigh Ride - 8/10 A Marshmallow World - 6/10 I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - 7/10 Rudolph to Red-Nosed Reindeer - 7/10 Winter Wonderland - 8/10 Parade of the Wooden Soldiers - 7/10 Christmass (Baby Please Come Home) - 10/10 Here Comes Santa Claus - 6/10 Silent Night - 1/10

I’m not going to listen to this, it’s January’s

To me Phil Spector's wall of sound always sounds a little shrill. So much great Christmas music. This is pretty average.

Really solid Christmas album.

Pretty nice for a Christmas album. Also, mercifully short.

- It's a bit too sugary. Might be great for american tastes, but I prefer less industrialized, pasteurized, over-sweetened albums.

All classics, and the “wall of sound” has been a massive influence. Still, I can’t give too many stars to an album that’s all retreads of popular songs.

Ooh sweet! I get a Christmas gift from Phil Spector. I wonder what it could be! Anyways, all Phil Spector jokes aside, A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector is all and all, a pretty good Christmas album. The vocals from every band in this album did a really good job singing. I did feel that the drums were utilized a little too heavily. Aside from that slight blunder. I feel that these songs are really iconic for a reason. Best Song: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Worst Song: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

I will play this during Christmas.

Merry Christmas! Learned Phil Spector is a murderer so that last track was very weird to listen to. Otherwise a nice album

I hate Christmas songs lol. But these songs are actually ok

Nice. Lots of classics. Only good at Christmas though

Enjoyable Christmas classics.

3/5. Really neat kind of compilation album of many famous Christmas songs performed by notable artists. The famous Sleigh Ride was included in this album.

It's Christmas songs, it's Christmas - it's OK. I have no desire to run across it again, but it passed the time while cooking the dinner

White Christmas- 3.8/5 Frosty the Snowman- 4.3/5 The Bells of St. Mary- 3.1/5 Santa Claus Is Coming to Town- 3.4/5 Sleigh Ride- 5/5 Marshmallow World- 2.5/5 I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus- 4.1/5 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer- 2.1/5 Winter Wonderland- 3.3/5 Parade of the Wooden Soldiers- 2.7/5 Christmas (Baby Please Come Home- 3.9/5 Here Comes Santa Claus- 3.1/5 Silent Night- 0/5 (Phil Spector) Total- 3.2/5

Some very nice performances of Christmas songs, but not much more

As good as Christmas songs get

Yep. Christmas.

How appropriate for this time of year (Christmas if you couldn't tell), A Christmas Gift For You is a decent compilation album that has the majority of the Christmas classics, including White Christmas, Santa Clause Is Coming To Town and Winter Wonderland. Although Phil Spector is not really one to idolise, there are none actually sung by Spector himself, just a thank you track to background music of Silent Night. There were only a couple of Christmas tunes I hadn't heard of that didn't manage to catch on to be a part of regular Christmas rotation. Best: Santa Clause Is Coming To Town Worst: Silent Night 3.5 stars

Did not listen, too much Christmas 🤶

Classic Christmas songs. Fine.

Not my jam

I’m Jewish albums generator

It's a Christmas album ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Best Song: The Bells of St. Mary Worst Song: Parade of the Wooden Soldiers

Classic carols wrapped up my Christmas on a nyc train ride back home.

nice and oldie christmas songs

I like the album but I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music so 3 stars.

Some good Christmas songs here,

Some classic Christmas songs. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) is best song on the album. Nothing special but enjoyable during the holidays

As far as Christmas albums goes this one was very enjoyable. Phil spectors iconic "wall of sound" worked surprisingly well for music that can be bare bones with a focus on the vocals. I'm not overly huge on Christmas albums, I tend to put on random music for a few days a year, but I think this is one I'll come back to! Fav songs: sleigh ride, Christmas (baby please come home)

It's a great Christmas album but I can't give an album that has a shelf life of like, 2 weeks a year more than a 3, even if it has one of the best Christmas songs of all time on it.

look, I'm not a huge Christmas music fan or anything but I can't pretend this isn't without its high points (e.g. the definitive version of "Sleigh Ride"). that being said: what the fuck is going on with the horrifically plodding version of "Frosty the Snowman" on this thing

A nice listen whilst making Christmas dinner. Knocked off a star coz Phil Spector is a murderer

A gift? For me? Phil Spector you shouldn’t have 🥹

As far as Christmas albums go, this is a good one, but that doesn’t negate the fact that it’s a Christmas album

¡Feliz Navidad! (Escuchado el 3 de enero)

Decent variations of many Christmas classics, however, I’m so personally sick of Christmas classics. I’d rather listen to mediocre Christmas original songs, than great versions of these classic songs.

hal blaine geile siech

It was fun

AWWWW CUTE -- im like not really interested in christmas music tho i can't lie

It's nice for a Xmas album.

Thanks for the gift Phil, but I forgot to listen to this and it's February now and I don't feel that christmasy. However this is a great collection of good versions of christmas classics

Known Before: Standouts: 5.0

Sounded like Christmas music to me. I don’t know what else to say, except that I might have enjoyed it more if I’d listened to it the week before Christmas and not the week after.

I love the Christmas songs chosen for this album. I’m just not a big fan of Christmas music. Or Christmas.

Enjoyable Christmas album

It's Christmas music.

White Christmas - 3 Frosty the Snowman - 3 The Bells of St. Mary - 3 Santa Claus is Coming to Town - 3 Sleight Ride - 3 Marshmallow World - 3 I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - 3 Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - 3 Winter Wonderland - 3 Parade of the Wooden Soldiers - 3 Christmas - 3 Silent Night - 1 Painful.

This is an album I can appreciate for the production. I mean it’s a collection of classic Christmas songs, so it’s not really gonna be bad. No love no hate. But I did try to pay attention for the wall of sound and I can say it’s there. The layers of instruments, percussion and even backing vocals make a very full sound. It’s cool to hear how multiple instruments overlayed can create a unique sound. It lead my down a rabbit hole of researching the wall of sound technique. Probably worth a relisten with high quality headphones

Good songs I don’t usually hear. Good till he came on at the end and said how wonderful it was.

That was certainly christmas music. Good for what it was.

Not listening to this right now respectfully

Merry Christmas

I loved this album and it dropped at just the right time. He may have a thing for gunplay and occasionally accidentally murder romantic partners, despite this he certainly knows how to produce a record. What an awful human being. My three stars are for the performers on this album.

Some classics on this album and just in time for Christmas! I’m guessing the generator is not so random after all 😉 I think this is the only compilation style album we’ve seen so far on this challenge? Putting aside for a moment that Phil Spector was an abusive murdering piece of sh*t - this has some fun and frivolous holiday music with some excellent 60s vibes! Not the type of music I tend to listen to at Christmas (many years of being indoctrinated has left me a very traditional carols, hymns and Handel’s messiah sort of gal - I wish I was cool & hip, but alas I am not!) But I’ll be adding this one into the Xmas mix for next year - it certainly beats the music my S.O. plays at Christmas! It would be 4 stars (and I’m sorry to all the fabulous musicians!!!) but minus a star for Spector being a bit of a c**t

Christmas is stressful, frantic, loud and chaotic. Things can become repetitive yet there are absolutes that cannot be questioned. It gives me a headache. As does this album all in one go.

Phil Spector was undoubtedly a great music producer, but also seems to have been a crappy human being. Long before he killed Lana Clarkson, he imprisoned his wife for two years and sexually assaulted at least one of his children, allegedly. Still, the music on this album is very good and we shouldn't hold the producer's indiscretions against the musician's performance.

Expected Lorenzo rating: 3

It was a good Christmas album.

The most disingenuous thing I can do is adjust my rating just because it’s Christmas and this is a Christmas album. Imagine if i just ripped a 1/5 though. Also he invented the 2014 Forest Hills Drive album closer style with this one, just doing a spoken narrative thank you

It’s still just Christmas music

Merry chrysler

Some of my favorite versions but also some versions I didn't like. Very festive either way

I dreaded listening to this because of a lifelong detestation of christmas music, but it was surprisingly good. I appreciated, but will never return. Favorite moment has got to be during the acknowledgments at the end, when Phil says: 'as of this moment I am very proud of all the contributors' which to me implies a future possibility of no longer being proud of them. Not how I would have done it but you do you Phil.

merry chrimus

what a gift

Some great talent on the record, and good versions of classic songs I never really liked. Bah humbug. Happy Christmas.

murders notwithstanding, i liked this collection. we alternated between this and the sufjan stevens xmas playlist on youtube for our family get-together

Decent Christmas music, which is not my favorite. 3 stars for the timing.

I made the mistake of waiting until after Christmas to listen to it. Wasn’t really into it. Phil Spector is a monster.

Good Christmas songs, I’m not really a fan of Christmas music but I guess if I had to listen this would be a good choice.

Very well performed, nice Christmas tunes expertly produced by a monster. Minus one star for murder.

Solid Christmas album

A classic sound. You can’t hate on it in any way, it’s Phil Spector and it’s Christmas. 🎅🏻 🎄🍻

nice, an album full of classic christmas songs. yes, phil spector is the worst, but he only appears at the end of the album so it's easier to listen to these other songs as they are. some true classic versions of songs here, sleigh ride being my favorite. probably not going to listen to this year-round and again, there is the whole specter of spector lingering over this, so... three stars? favorites: white christmas, santa claus is coming to town, sleigh ride, christmas baby please come home

Was a bunch of Christmas classics. Most of them are way overplayed however it fit the season.

It was fine. Christmas.

A Christmas album packed with some of the most popular Christmas songs. There are quite a few of these song versions that are still played a lot on radio today, like 'Sleigh Ride', 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" etc, so by those measurements it must be regarded as a success. Still, there are quite a few Christmas songs I listen to that are not on this particular album. And for some reason I feel that Christmas music plays in a different league than "regular" music, so it's hard for me to compare this to ordinary albums. I think a dead on 3 feels reasonable.

So that's a Christmas music album. It's properly christmasy and doesn't make my ears bleed, so it's good. I can probably listen to it once a year.

As far as Christmas albums go, it's certainly tolerable. Listening to this a couple days after Christmas is not as tolerable. Not a slight on the album, just an unfortunate byproduct of being sick of Christmas music a few weeks ago. For Phil Spector being Phil Spector, and having to hear this after Christmas, I'm tempted to give it a 2 as I don't rate based on objectivity, I rate on how an album makes me feel, and this was mostly anger. On the real actually a pretty solid collection of Chrissy tracks. Solid 3/5 Fav track: Marshmallow Man or I saw Mommy kissing Santa

Equal parts terrifying and fun - some classic and unadulterated Christmas cheer mixed with whatever energy it is that Phil Spector emits. Honestly this is a pretty decent record overall, and an easy one to put on over the holidays. Despite the spoken word elements, the singalongs are all a pretty good time. Fave track: Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)

This was next in the queue while I catch up on backlog of albums on November 20 2025. I am also writing in Christmas cards so it was timely.

Very familiar arrangements of secular Christmas carols

Nice generic Christmas album - probably would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't listening to it on Jan 8th...

- Should not have waited til after Christmas to listen to this - Good songs but they're mostly not the original versions (or the Eagles) so eh

I guess it's Christmas in July. I'm not a fan of holiday music in general, but this one has some goodies... rock and roll holiday... If I were to hear one of these during the holiday, I wouldn't be too pissed. Not bad.

It's decent Christmas music but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it again.

Phil Spector is interessant.

A festive album, which although was released 60 years ago, it still has a number of staple christmas classics on it. Many of the tracks have been re-recorded to a better standard than this release, but they still manage to evoke that christmas warth inside.

Christmassy!

Sounds like a Phil Spector album

tired classics

Who knew all these canonical versions came from a single compilation?

Great Christmas album

Great renditions of classic songs

Not sure why I expected anything else than a Christmas record today. Anyway, still gonna give this a spin! I like it for what it is, some nice songs for the Christmas days, but yeah, I could do without this record. However the project was a cool idea, and while I don’t like the mixing, the assembly of artists is good! 6 out of 10

fun album! sleigh ride lowkey was the easy best

Festive, but not my thing

chrimstas

Thanks for Christmas mood

Merry xmassss

i mean, it's a solid xmas album

A pretty good Christmas album, it hits the high points

So let's address the psychotic elephant in the room first. The history of the music industry is full of assholes who produced great music. Phil Spector had talent producing good music. Phil Spector was an asshole to say the least. This album is full of stereotypical mid-century Christmas songs. Some have become classic performances in themselves, some mediocre or even questionable interpretations. They combine to form an album that is a snapshot of the music of its time. The whole thing is a very slick and commercial package. I wouldn't be surprised to find that there is a correlation between the release of this album and the start of complaints of over-commercialization of Christmas. But does that make it a must hear album? There are other noteworthy Christmas albums. Bing Crosby's White Christmas is far richer in tone and tradition. It evokes images of your grandparents' youth at Christmas. There is also 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians which has the absolute best rendition of Jingle Bells ever recorded. So while A Christmas Gift for You is good, it does not have any characteristics that merit it being added to the 1001 list. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - I enjoyed listening to it but wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.

Very fun to listen to, great holiday spirit. Merry Christmas!

The Wall of Sound style is interesting but I never enjoyed Christmas music.

It's a fine Christmas album but it's the same music you hear ever holiday. It would have been nice to feature more artists, or done more "non standard" songs.

This came up exactly on Christmas day! I love this!

Sounds too happy tadada

Favourite song: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

This is actually great for what it is, but what it is is a Christmas album, bound to be heard once or twice a year.

christmas, phil, murder, wall of sound. its xma smusic tho. its got all those instruments smashed up. yeah. cool. fine. dont shoot someone, kids.

Phil Spector was an arse but damn did he produce some great shit. Especially love the Ronettes cuts on here.

Helemaal kerst man

What a festive album to get on Christmas Day. I am familiar with a few of these renditions of some Christmas classics, but not all of them. Phil Spector was known for his production style known as the "wall of sound" which was an "unusually dense orchestral aesthetic that came across well through radios and jukeboxes of the era." Later, in the 2000's, he would become well known as a murderer too, so there's that. All said and done though, this is a great compilation of classic 60's artists (The Ronettes, The Crystals, Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans, and Darlene Love). Darlene Love, Mariah Carey, and many others have been in a constant feud every year over who Queen of Christmas is, and in my mind, it's no comparison, Darlene Love is amazing, I hate Mariah Carey's poppy Christmas garbage. I especially love Darlene's original Christmas classic: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) which reminds me of the movie The Night Before now every time I hear it. Overall, a warm, festive listen today! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! Favourite song: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Least favourite songs: The Bells of St. Mary, Parade of the Wooden Soldiers 3/5

Really good holiday album. Great classics. 3, prolly not adding seasonal or holiday music to the playlist.

Iconic Christmas album. There's nothing like Phil Spector's sound, uncompromising, full-figured, encapsulating. This album is jangly and about as good as a Christmas album can be, which is a pretty low bar all truth told. Very serviceable album, one of the coolest options for the festive period. Is it a great album in it's own right? Perhaps not quite

Did this album make it onto the list due to the irony of a convicted murderer helping create such a joyous Christmas album? The songs are good because they're Christmas classics, but I can't say I'm a fan of the production - even knowing that there was a deliberate attempt to make it sound the way it does. Also, maybe it's a culture thing & an age thing but I don't consider these to be the definitive versions of most of these songs. Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) slaps, though.

Honestly some of the definitive versions of Christmas songs all on one track very impressive influentially.

Generally only listen to this genre one twelfth of the year. The songs are solid and the production has a classic sound that feels timeless and nostalgic. I'm not sure if using multiple artists is cheating, but it sorta feels like cheating. There are a lot of hits on this album, even if people only listen to them in December. They all start to sound the same halfway through and then it's a bit of a chore to get through. 3/5

Okay, first off, almost every review for this album is from December, usually on or after the 25th. The generator must save this as a Christmas gift every year or something, which would make sense. Fine by me! I don't hate Christmas music like some people do. I like some of it very much. This album was alright. Didn't particularly stand out to me, but I liked it. It's nice. It had a few of my favourite Christmas songs on it, and a couple that I hadn't ever heard before. My favourite songs were Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Here Comes Santa Claus, and Sleigh Ride.

3 stars, definite classics. Phil spector's sound is extremely recognizable.

I absolutely adore Darlene Love's voice, it's magnificent, and I assume that's why of all the songs on here, hers are the ones I know the best. Sadly I'm not as crazy for the rest of the album. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), specifically this version, is one of my favorite songs. It's a shame it's produced by a murderer, but considering he doesn't actually sing in any of these (although he does talk like a weasel near the end) and it doesn't detract from the album. I think I would've adored this with just Love, but instead we'll have to keep it in the middle. Still pretty good for a Christmas album, I'd say. Also, again, very funny, giving this on Christmas. It's like the Queen Is Dead all over again.

I really don't like Christmas music, but this album is an acceptable collection I would willingly listen to on Christmas Eve.

All the classics you grew up with

Would probably have earned a 4 if not for the Phil Spector of it all. Still, the vocal harmonies are very pretty and the arrangements suitably peppy.

Wow, Phil really KILLED it with this one! It absolutely MURDERS all of it's competition! All Jokes aside, I listened to it on shuffle and I haven't finished it (I think). I think it's solid for what it's supposed to be, though it leaves a bad aftertaste in the mouth. 3/5

3.5/5. No way this is a random generator If I’m getting this album on Christmas Day.

It's a Christmas album, full of Christmas songs bu famous artists. There's not much to be said. Overall a decent Christmas compilation.

Not the Christmas bangers I’m used to

I'm not a fan of Christmas songs, but these ones are really well executed, so the final project is quite interesting.

Great Christmas album from a murder

I literally was just listening to this. The production is a bit fuzzy which is a testament to the time period. Not a big fan of the singing. It isn't particularly notable. But definitely a great mood booster for the festive time of year. I didn't really celebrate Christmas growing up because I wasn't allowed to. But I try to make the most of it now. It really is a happy day if you make it that way, celebrate it with people you love or just yourself, and just make it a good time. I don't mind Christmas music, it makes me emotional. Highlights: Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland

Sigh. Of course this website does this to me. I really don't enjoy Christmas music or Christmas in general. Eh. Obviously a sound album and I'm sure a beloved one for most. Great line up of artists here etc etc. Still I'm not gonna put myself through this sorry!

All the songs on this album just come at you like a wave of echoey voices, surfing on another wave of additional choirs, bells, string quartets, horn sections on top of another wave of perfectly aligned maracas and other percussion shaking and rattling underneath. Because where in these days Phil Spectors multi-layered, orchestrated, muddy wall of sounds just tires me out, it really did work well on these old mono recordings with the 1960's girl groups where the songs were the focus, not the musicians. This makes this album quite a joy to listen to and is justifiably regarded as the best Christmas album of all time. And the only album I would put on if I absolutely had to listen to any of its music during it.

Just like I do for some of the presents loved ones or family members give you for Christmas every year, I politely thank the 1001 Albums app for this nice gesture. December 25th is the right time to receive gifts, is it not? But to be fair, and all politeness aside, every year *some* of the gifts I receive stay untouched, or they are put in the back of cupboard shelves, never to be seen again. A Phil-Spector-curated compilation from the early sixties featuring The Ronettes, Darlene Love and other similar acts is still miles better than anything Mariah Carey ever pulled off afterwards to ruin your ears every late December (I won't be polite at all if I receive *that* gift next year). The thing is, if really I wanted to have a great example of the Wall-Of-Sound aesthetics in my record collection, I'd rather go to a *regular* album by The Ronettes or by any other act that Spector produced around the same time (long before he became the troubled criminal he is today--but that's a christmas yarn for another time, kiddies...). Besides, being stuck with the same cheesy theme for the course of a whole album is just exhausting, even when it's the right time of the year. If really I had to play a X-mas record to set everyone around me in the right mood on that very day, I think Frank Sinatra's similarly-themed LPs would be more efficient and less obnoxious choices than this, as clichéed and potententially tiring as the latter are themselves... Number of albums left to review: 696 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 149 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 71 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 85 (including this one)

Hey, I get the appeal. It’s a collection of what are now considered classic renditions of Christmas songs, perfectly capturing the sound of the 60’s.

This has a lot of the Christmas hits you already know and hear every year. It's pretty timeless but you're limited to just December on this one.

Ugh. So much Christmas

Helemaal kerst man

Makes me feel nostalgia for an era of hip hop I wasn’t even around for. Lots of energy, lots of ‘yeaaa boiiiiii’s from flava flav which is exactly what I needed. 3.7/5

These are Christmas songs made by a murderer. Good family fun.

Thank you for this Christmas gift Phil 🎁

A perfectly enjoyable Christmas album based in that 60’s sound, despite being involved with Phil Spector. It’s the sort of must listen for people into music, not for everyone.

Pretty solid and fun Christmas album.

Definitely super fun album and nostalgic for anyone who is over 45 in 2022. I was kind of mad when I saw this on the list, but it was quite ok in the narrow retro girl band holiday songs produced by a murderer genre.

Waited a year to give this one a 3

Completely pleasant motown stylings of the christmas classics. What you would expect.

Not that great. Dated production. I hate Christmas songs.

3.5. Wall of Sound omg. Still Christmas music though

great album, perfect for the season! can see this growing on me on multiple listens :)

What a great Christmas album! The 60's Wall of Sound arrives just in time for the holidays! All tracks are great (except Spector's creepy Silent Night wish, of course...insert eye roll emoji here), but that Darlene Love is truly special, isn't she? I didn't know this album existed, so thank you, 1001albums, for the gift. A great way to add depth, diversity and punctuation to your Christmas mix, which can tend to grow stale with the same old same old if you let it. It will be prominent in my Christmas mix for this year and many years to come. Merry Christmas, all!

it's good but also a christmas album

How dare you give me a Christmas album on Christmas.

One of the best Burzum albums ever.

Kai nää on kummiskin niitä klassikoimpia

A collection of extremely famous Christmas songs. Darlene Love stand out the most.

Hard to seperate from the man.
