Somehow I think the randomizer was not so random today. I'll probably get this again next year near this day too. "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector" is an album of Christmas songs treated to Phil Spector's wall of sound, produced by Spector and recorded by Spectors' regular artists (Darlene Love, The Ronnettes, The Crystals and Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans). The album was originally named "A Christmas Gift for You by Philles Records." It was released on the day JFK was assassinated and initially did very poorly commercially. Since then, there have been multiple, multiple re-repressings and reissues. Interestingly, an original vinyl pressing can go upwards of $400-$500. Some of thee song versions are iconic and the versions we think of today. A number of these song versions have been covered by other artists. All these songs sounded great with the production. Darlene Love starts things off with "White Christmas." Her fantastic voice. It's got a groove. The strings. The backing vocals. The bells. The Crystals deliver along with the horns on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." Continued great production on "Sleigh Ride" performed by The Ronnettes. Great vocals. Bells. Bass. The Groove. And horse sounds! The Ronnettes' vocals are outstanding on "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Strings add to the song. OK, Darlene Love, you might just have sung the best version of "Winter Wonderland" I've heard. And she keeps it going with the fantastic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." Obviously, Bono was listening...I didn't need to say that. The album ends with "Silent Night" where Spector thanks everyone and wishes everyone a Merry Christmas. Fading strings and backing vocals conclude the song. If you're not a holiday mood, this is the record to listen to. Far and away, the best Christmas collection of songs I've heard. And, it is an album with the production connecting the songs. I don't typically buy a lot of Christmas albums/music but this is one I'd buy right now. Maybe, Santa will bring me that $400 to $500???

I very much dislike Christmas music and I don’t care who produces it. It grates my ears and my head hurts at the thought. That said this was well produced even if the songs gave me a migraine.

I have an aversion towards Christmas music, but I appreciate the tradition and nostalgia of the Ronettes. God do I love celebrating capitalism.

I actually hate Christmas music. Call me a cynic, but it’s boring and all the music is just repeated year after year. Nobody can write a modern day Christmas song without making it sexual (I’m looking at you Justin Bieber). This is well deserved as my first 2 star. The songs are good and I can’t hate on the Ronettes, but goddamnit, I’m sick of it.

Wow perfect timing for this, holy shi*. This is my all time favorite Christmas album. Fun fact: Phil Spector murdered one of his wives. He also produced Let it Be, and Paul hated it so much that decades later he made Let it Be… Naked, which is honestly better. Also, Spector married one of the women on this album, I think the lead singer of the Ronettes. She wasn’t the one who got murdered tho. Anyways, preemptive 4. Update: Michael Buble can leave his pasty ass by the fire, he ain’t got nothin on this.

Wow, maybe my favorite Christmas album I’ve ever heard? I didn’t just have a good time… I had a Great Time. Phil Spektor in his prime! The Ronnettes with their most Brooklyn accents! Lots of fun sound effects and orchestral stuff. Always fun, never too jaded-commercial, always having-a-good-time-with-it-commercial. I gained a new appreciation for songs I’d heard before, it helped fill out the missing pieces of the puzzle for me with these Christmas songs I’ve no doubt heard in countless shopping experiences. 4 stars! I have been gifted.

fun and festive. not my first choice for christmas music, but still very fun nonetheless! i prefer my xmas stuff less traditional, so i usually go for more alternative covers than these, but this collection is undeniably good and cheerful. i'm not gonna rate it higher than a 3 because it doesn't SUPER fit into the greater music cannon (aside from the artists and producers attached to the songs), but still a fun time and will be a seasonal revisit when i need to put on something that isn't weird

Natuurlijk lastig om buiten het seizoen alsnog een kerstplaat te gaan luisteren. Maar ik weet niet of ik hier in december heel veel meer van had genoten. Sterker nog, het werd het langste half uurtje van de week. Alle clichésongs achter elkaar, met alle clichés in de tekst, op een bedje van Motown- en Beach boys-achtige klanken, een geluid dat je niet gauw met de kerst associeert. Als piek op de boom nog een knullige monoloog aan het eind met een strijkersversie van Stille Nacht eronder. Ik krijg van de weeromstuit zin om heel veel vuurwerk af te steken na het aanhoren van deze geglazuurde kitsch.

Tja...een kerstalbum...An sich een hele aparte muzieksoort om toe te voegen. Maar laten we zeggen: niet mijn favoriete genre. Dit album lijkt me vooral een geintje. Moet ik het echt raten? Het is een verzameling covers door verschillende artiesten. Niet perse de beste versies die ik ken...Het is het 'feel good' idee, dus ik knal er een bonus ster tegen aan.

Most Christmas music is basically the same songs by different people. Regardless, I still like them sometimes.

Whilst I am catching up and cannot crying myself to listen to this album outside the festive period, most of the album is full of classics that are quality Christmas songs. I have listened to 80% of these songs during December.

Big fan of Christmas songs usually, but most of these were pretty flat. A few exceptions but I dont even have the enthusiasm to remind myself and type them here. If Phil gifted this to me, I’d probably regift it next year.

Haven't heard this particular album before, most of the versions of the songs on here were decent ones but won't be coming back next Christmas to get this specific album. So overall fine.

I prefer other versions of almost every song. The Wall of Sound effect doesn't help. +1 bump for bad behaviour.

There's not much to say about this, a Christmas album of mostly Christmas classics. The recordings sound pretty rough compared to modern standards. Everything is overplayed at this point so can't say I listened to the album properly.

My notes from listening. Castanets. Percussion and strings. Reverb. So big and crazy sounding. Drums sound like rain and thunder in the distance. All definition of stuff in mids is lost. Some times you just hear drums bells and vocals with a wompy bass. The drum fills at the end of the tunes are great. I like the time feel- like it’s pushing a lot of the time. As far as holiday albums go this is one of the best ones. Can I still enjoy his records knowing that Phil Spector was such a creep and a murderer? Tough one to rate…

Hard to rate a Christmas album but I used to really like this one. Really gotta separate art from artist here, but his arrangements and sound are pretty amazing.

A timely Christmas gift from the 1001 random album generator. I'm a sucker for any Christmas music.

Best Christmas album of all time. One of best uses of wall of sound ever. Classics yet fresh. Probably should be minus five for Phil Spector.

Jolly Christmas collection, not the best I've heard (or the worst), nothing at all to make this one stand out

I love Phil, and it is intriguing to hear the Gold Star wall of sound brought to bear on a Chrissie album. Sleigh Ride kinda works, but no this is not good.

Several of these tracks are well known to me, not least because they're on Natalie's 37 hour "Legendary Christmas" Spotify playlist. I can get into the mood for them one at a time. But a whole album is way too much!

Brilliantly conceived by one of rock’s greatest innovators, who died as a convicted murderer. I remember some of these tracks being played at xmas in the early 60’s. And there’s been a tv commercial running for at least the last month that uses a large chunk of The Ronettes doing Sleigh Ride. Much credit must go to arranger Jack Nitzsche. Darlene Love steals the show - she’s listed as performing 4 tracks but you can bet Spector used her on more than that. The way he thwarted her career is one of his earlier crimes. She’s terrific here, as usual. Ronnie Spector’s unique vocals also shine on the three Ronette’s tracks. I’ve had the vinyl for over 40 years and spin it every December, religiously. It used to make us all piss ourselves when we got to the last track to hear Phil’s whiney voice as he pretended to be normal. Now it’s just creepy.

And we're back to the question of how we measure the actions of the artist against the art... Phil Spector, was a misogynist, bully, and convicted murderer. And this album is clearly his brain child, and in many ways, the pinnacle of his producing career. As he mostly concentrated on singles, this is certainly the most greatest _album_ he ever produced. I own a couple of different pressings of this album, because you always need one on hand in December. And it sounds great. The full wall of sound, the best of his stable of talent (Darlene Love and Ronnie Spector are MVPs here), and the amazing orchestra. We listen to this album obsessively every Christmas season. It is the greatest Christmas album of all time, and a pivotal text of rock and roll. People still try to emulate that sound. But I never listen to the Christmas message from Phil. It's just too creepy. While I do not want to hear a message of goodwill from a misogynist, bully and convicted murderer, I won't let Phil's sins deprive me of the glory that is Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector, and the wonderful group of singers who really lift this album. Without them, this album would not be the wonder that it is. My favourite moment is Ronnie Spector's broad New York accent when she sings the word "Frosty" in Frosty The Snowman. I love it every time I hear it.

Acknowledging the elephant in the room. Spector’s personal life was dubious to say the least. Abhorrent! Grotesque! All that and more. Putting aside the private man and the fact that the message at the end is infused with creepy overtones, he was undoubtedly a genius producer and these are superb songs. If you can’t appreciate a fabulous Christmas tune on Christmas Eve Eve, then you might as well go and clank chains with Jacob Marley.

My feelings on Phil Spector aside, this is a great collection of Christmas songs, mostly because it doesn't come across as a Christmas collection. The artists and production treat this like a bona fide "standard" record, the arrangements are grand, the performances are heartfelt, and the songs themselves are winners (mostly). Apparently this was released the day before Kennedy was assassinated, so Spector pulled it off the market upon release, killing the mojo it might have had in sales and in the collective consciousness; but Bruce Springsteen certainly heard it, as this seems to be the version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" he worked off to create his own classic rendition — sax solo and all. And give me this version of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" over the Jackson 5's every single time.

Even a Christmas Grinch like me loves this album. Most of these versions are definitive. Minus one star for Phil being a murderer.

3.5 I mean, it’s Christmas music - you know what you’re getting into here. It’s fun to get into the festive mood around the holiday, not quite as much fun any other time of the year… like January when I’m listening right now (tbf this should have been rated and reviewed on or around Christmas so that’s on me). That all being said, if there’s any one Christmas album you should probably listen to outside of Elvis’ and Bing Crosby’s, it’s probably this one - It’s full of all-time Christmas classics that are much more fun and upbeat than a great deal of the more Jesus-focused stuff. The Ronettes are standouts here, and it’s no mystery why their songs are the ones we still commonly hear on contemporary Christmas radio today, though that being said, this collection does in fact contain my all-time favorite Christmas song in Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love - I bumped up to 3.5 from my initial 3 from the inclusion of that song alone. I would probably never put this on unless hosting a holiday party, but I can’t argue it’s definitely a good vibe for December, and yes, I’m in the camp of not wanting to hear any of this before Thanksgiving. Kinda interesting such a cheery record was released on the same day as the Kennedy assassination (also the same day as With the Beatles!), but that was probably an omen for the murderous piece of shit Phil Spector would become. After I separate Artist from the Art; this is Phil Spector at the height of his genius. This is the only Christmas music I like, keep Mariah and Elvis, give me Darlene Love and The Ronettes. Classic.

Surprisingly good for a Christmas album. At least one song ended up being the definitive version that we all still hear every year, to this day, which earns an extra star in my book.

This one only took one listen to get. Fun versions of Christmas songs that sound like anything else Phil Spector produced during this period. This turning of classics into "modern" sounding songs might have been more fun when this came out if it wasn't the day JFK was assassinated.

I wouldn't be upset if a lot of these became the go-to standards.

I was hoping we’d get a Christmas album on this list! This is my favorite Christmas album and I’m very happy to see it here. I love the drummer on this album. On some of these songs, I wonder if anybody told him what song he was playing. He goes so hard. Listen to his drum fills on “Frosty the Snowman” — he’s so intense! I love that. Really ups the energy. Great selection of songs, all beautifully arranged and produced (many of them are over the top but just so good). A bunch of these are among the best versions of these songs. A+ all around. ❄️🎄⛄️💯

This is Gab and I's favorite Christmas album! I also think this is maybe the 3rd album on this list that is a contender for 10 favorite albums for me. (Others- Nirvana Unplugged, Bruce - Nebraska). Gab had a vinyl copy of this (that I think was from her grandmother) that had a wonderful warble to it on a few songs and we 100% hear those warbles when we listen to them out in the wild, like on the radio. We love it and have since gotten a new copy of the vinyl but definitely still love the warbly flaws. I always think about Phil Spector when I hear this album- how pivotal he was to pushing the limits of modern recording technology and how so much of current recording trends are because of him; but at the same time he's a murderer. Yikes. Regardless, this is a 5/5 for me.

I was prepared to not like this album, but in listening realized that the Spector Wall of Sound versions of these Christmas tunes are actually the ones I enjoy the most. So actually a pretty enjoyable listen.

Phil Spector's style of direction and production is easily recognizable here, which makes it a different, pleasant and truly charming Christmas album.

themed albums don't seem to make this 1001 albums list very often, based on my experience from the last 235 albums. most of these songs have become, since their release in 1963, the definitive version! to me, that knowledge solidified this album's importance, even if it was produced by phil spector. his idea of using a handful of musical acts to sing several classic songs is so simple, yet it worked brilliantly. each group sings in such a charming way; it's hard not to smile when listening. a lovely christmas treat, even if the "random" generator stopped functioning properly on december 23rd.

Thanks, algorithm, for delivering this to me on Christmas Eve Eve! I’m definitely more likely to give it a fair shake during the actual season. I wasn’t familiar with this album as a whole, but when it got to going, I was surprised at how many of these individual renditions I knew. So many of these versions are absolutely iconic and permeate the holiday season. I had not heard of the “wall of sound” before, either, but after reading about it, I recognize this effect — it is certainly an iconic one! I love Christmas music, and I typically have a type that I gravitate towards — this album is not that typical type. But hearing all of this together on this album is most certainly like a warm holiday hug, and I loved every minute of it.

THE Christmas album. From the time before Phil Spector was stomping all over The Beatles and also ended up in jail. This is perfect pop music and worth all of the control freakery in the studio. I dig this out every Christmas and give it a good few spins. There is nothing that I don't love about this album, even (not so) old Phil at the end wishing everyone a very Merry. Brilliant.

This album is all Christmas songs sung by various artists. I enjoyed listening to it especially the Ronettes. The reason I gave it a 3 is because there is nothing that made the album amazing, It was very cheery and fun to listen to but nothing the really stood out.

The pure nostalgic joy washes over you as your transported to a northern winter wonderland replete with backing foley of bells and clopping horses, sure very seasonal but it is a must listen every christmas season. Favourite tracks are the classics The Ronettes - Sleigh Ride and Darlene Love - Christmas.

The 2nd best Christmas album of all time and one I listen every year. To me this is the best example of Phil Spector's influential wall of sound production. I definitely see how it influenced Brian Wilson and how It's considered a classic to this day. This album contains the definitive versions of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and "Christmas". Holiday classic. 9/10

Solid Christmas album that influenced every other Christmas album. Quintessential Spector production & arrangement. Sounds played out in the 21st century, but this was the pioneer of modern pop production. Translates well to Christmas music. Fun vocals and high energy throughout 3.75/5

I was reading my colleagues review and they mentioned. "If I'd had to listen to this in July I can imagine it losing a star..." Well it's April for me and here I am listening to a Christmas Album from 1963. I must say as far as Christmas Albums goes this is pretty good so it's not going in the trashfire. But it's certainly not an album that's going on my listen to again list. No particular favourites, all well known tunes.

12/23/2021 Today's Album: "A Christmas Gift for You" by Phil Spector - I have to temporarily get myself back in the Christmas spirit for this one so please pardon any lapses in judgement. This is most likely the best Christmas album ever made. Pretty much every track on here is an incredibly recognizable holiday tune performed by some of the best talent of the late 50s/early 60s. It has some of the most classic iterations of these songs that you hear everywhere during December. Overall, a Christmas staple with amazing versions of the best Christmas classics. Score: 8/10 There's a time and place for this one, but it's really that good Highlights: *List of all 13 of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time*

Nunca se me hubiera ocurrido que un álbum navideño estuviera en esta lista, pero este tiene mucho sentido. Creo que nunca había escuchado ninguna de estas canciones, pero tienen ese sonido particular (que identifico ahora que leí el artículo de Wikipedia) de Phil Spector. Me gustó mucho el twist que le dieron a estas canciones , una gran adición a la lista.

Meh, quizá si lo hubiera oído el día que tocaba me hubiera caído mejor, o si no tuviera asociado el nombe de Phil Spector. A decir verdad, son las versiones de estas canciones navideñas que están ya guardadas en el inconsciente colectivo gracias a las películas y de hecho me sorprendió que vengan todas ellas en el mismo disco y de la misma producción. Por otro lado, no soy fan the la Wall of Sound y aquí es obvio que era parte del punto.

I don't have anything bad or good to say about this album. It's Christmassy songs. That's all there is to it, at least for me.

The best Christmas album ever? Great Mo-town versions of Christmas standards. I can see myself putting this on again next Christmas, but certainly not until then.

My timing may have been off since this queued up for me weeks after Christmas Day, so I was not in a festive frame of mind. But trying this out off-season I get it there's the corny Christmas songs, Phil Spector style, and a record that might be a big hit at a party next December.

A festive 1963 album geared toward christmas pop. The coherency and technicality in its production, which is the highlight of the album, puts on display Phil Spector's ability to innovate music production norms as early as the 1960s. While impressive namely on tracks like 'White Christmas' and 'Marshmallow World', it requires backing from artists like Darlene Love to render certain tracks memorable as some fall short of that criteria.

Great festive album with all the favourites

As interesting as it is to listen to an album by the acclaimed music producer Phil Spector, remembering half way though the album that he was a convicted murderer really put a damper on the Christmas spirit he is trying to convey here. Musically I though the sound was a bit to muddy for my taste although that might be due to streaming the album. Either way I will not be playing this to get me in the mood for Christmas next year.

I understand the importance of Christmas music in our culture... but I am not seeing what really stands out about this Christmas album specifically. This sounds nice but I wouldn't seek it out to listen to it. Favorites: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Not a fan of Christmas music and I would never pick any of these renditions if I was choosing to play Christmas songs. The Phil Spector “thank you” at the end is the worst producer tag of all time. Don’t see myself hitting “play” on this again

Very fitting for today (Christmas Eve), I guess it's done that way on purpose. These are all the classic songs we've heard many times before. I don't really care for most Christmas songs, but these are produced and performed really well.

Well, it's Christmas music. So I feel like you either like it or not. But the wall of sound does lend itself well to this genre. Love Darlene loves Christmas, but otherwise I'm not a huge fan of Xmas music so I probably won't listen to this album for another year. Also mixed feelings about how terrible of a person Phil spector was, so I guess there's that.

Weirdly, it's been ages since I actually enjoyed a good Christmas album. Especially one I haven't heard before. Sure, some of the tracks are cheesy, but in an enjoyable way. I have to give this album props for hitting the nostalgia for me, which is a real accomplishment for an album I don't think I ever heard as a kid. Fave track: Silent night

Amazing X-mas songs!

As great as a Christmas album can get. There are so many classics here that I had no idea came from the same album/producer. While Phil Spector is definitely not someone to idolize (that's an understatement), it is hard to deny the impact he had on music production which is just as evident here as it is anywhere else. The joy, warmth, and fun of Christmas is felt throughout this entire record, and many of these songs are THE definitive versions of these holiday classics. There is also an original song (Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)) that has gone on to become a staple in itself and is the strongest song on the whole album IMO. I am thankful that they assigned this one to me during the holiday season, but I think I would have enjoyed this at any point in the year. This is a difficult one to rank due to it being a compilation of artists and specific to a certain season, but I would definitely throw this one again next Christmas. 4/5.

Murder connection aside, this is a good collection

Good for christmas time.

Christmas albums are usually par for the course barring some weird deviation from tradition. While not weird, the chaotic elements of drumming with heavy tambourines seem to make the album feel rushed, with each carol feeling laborious as a result. This compilation is par for the course. It is not special, and honestly it seems to be giving something it does not have, and that is heart, until we get to "Sleigh Ride" a near instant recognizability given how ubiquitous this version of the song has become in modern pop culture. Eventually, we reach the second most popular song on the album, another pop staple in "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Two out of thirteen songs on a compilation album should be an accomplishment, maybe? Either way, there is much to be thankful for in this album and being part of the Christmas rotation (if not just the two aforementioned songs) is encouraged.

I'm not usually a fan of Christmas records, though the Ventures and Los Straitjackets do a smash-up job with their instro-versions. That being said, I was skeptical and though some of the songs are a little too sappy for my taste, there are some great songs on here. A bonus star for the spoken-work message to end the record from producer/convicted murderer, Phil "the kill" Spector. Boy, have times changed!

Don't really know how to score this album. It was pretty good for a Christmas album, but I don't particularly like Christmas music. The last track with Phil Spector was creepy.

It's easy to be cynical about Christmas music. Some music fans, with a wave of the hand, may claim it is pumped down our ears every year by retailers to sell products, or mined by the film and TV industry as a lazy shortcut to elicit emotion. It's also a well-known truth that Michael Buble is leading a fascist regime to placate the masses and brainwash us all with his colourless, dishwater festivities. But this album? For me, it's THE essential Christmas record, the one I'll happily make a tradition out of every December. All the vocalists here are at their peak and deliver exceptional renditions, but Darlene Love is the star at the top of the tree. Hearing "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" in its home setting, a lone original in a sea of reworked standards, is electrifying: E even amongst some of the most famous pre-1960 Christmas standards of all time, it still shines as a powerhouse number. Bob B Soxx and the Blue Jeans have perhaps the least to offer of all the artists featured, but the production and festivities help to tie it all together and the roster of artists participating keep it fresh. Spector's wall-of-sound arrangements are undeniably world-class. Every detail is immaculately constructed and presented. Some highlights: the Ronettes doing a "Be My Baby" on "Frosty the Snowman"; the irresistible backing vocals in "Sleigh Ride; chimes and bells EVERYWHERE; the glockenspiel in "Marshmallow World"... so much more besides. We're left with an album that, in little over half an hour, seems to perfectly capture the spirit and excitement of Christmas- even the clear commercial and corporate appeal shouldn't sully the huge talent on show. As delightfully jolly as it all is, I'm going to round down from a 4.5 to a 4. Why? Because it's not appropriate for at least 50 weeks of the year and it's also the brainchild of a murdering maniac. But damn... arrangements from a killer's head never sounded so... Christmassy.

Not a fan of Christmas music, but this wasn't bad at all. I liked White Christmas, Sleigh Ride and Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home) in particular. It does get boring as it goes on though. I was also happy Spector's Wall of Sound made these songs more lively and listenable as an album itself.

We don't start Christmas in our house until at least 21st December. This is always the first Christmas music played.

Like many people, I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas music and how you can't escape it in the holiday season. With that said, this album was a pleasant surprise. I feel like I must have heard most of these versions in supermarkets or retailers, but it all sounded like brand new versions of songs I was familiar with and they were all produced very well. The amount of character and the "wall of sound" style really lends well here. Darlene Love in particular was a standout, she killed it on each of her tracks. Would definitely make this my definitive Christmas album.

How awesome to get this album on Christmas, I can't imagine giving a different review in August, but you need a certain environment to listen to this album. A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector by Various Artists is on heavy rotation in my house during the holidays and it's easy to separate the genius from the malcontent. Spector was a handful always, but he nailed the recipe with the wall of sound and his eye for talent in Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector and the rest make everything he touched perfect. 4.5/5

Phil Spector's album of Christmas songs may be the most famous Christmas album there is. In recent years around the holidays, this album always makes an appearance on the charts. And on lists of best Christmas albums, this album is always near the top. The songs "Marshmallow World," "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," "Sleigh Ride," and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" are iconic from this album and have become tradition. Other songs like "Frosty the Snowman" and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" are also almost as popular. Normally I don't go out of my way to listen to holiday music even at Christmas, but I do agree this might be the best album for this music.

This was a very nice Christmas gift to listen to. Discover the life history of Phil Spector was a nice bonus (I never heard about him before), but the songs themselves were a great payoff. I hope to keep this project alive in my 2022 to-do list and these songs were a breath to get the greatest albums from the project and also to "enjoy" the worst ones which I'll never understand why they are here. Christmas songs always give me some type of hope and this album was a great piece of Christmas songs

This is one of the best albums that I've ever heard, despite the Christmas theme. Just about every song is recognizable and excellent. This has got to be the GOAT Christmas album. 10/10.

I was going to give this 5 stars for the serendipity of getting it on Christmas Eve, but when I saw my wife had the same album I had to rate it honestly. It’s got some classics on it and I will listen again, but not for a good 11 months, thanks.

Well, clearly I made an error when I put this album off until after Christmas, since I sure as fuck don't want to listen to Christmas music in January. On the other hand, despite the fact that he is mentally unhinged murderer, Phil Spector could produce the hell out of an album. Even with slightly subpar recording quality, the strength of the music is undeniable. There's a reason why several songs off this album are among the most popular version 5/5
