Reviews (page 15 of 17)

This saccharine overdose has me reaching for the insulin. The vocalists all deliver brilliant performances, the melodic phrasing remains surprisingly fresh despite the saturation of these songs, and the hit machine soul side of the production/arrangements (horns, swinging rhythms) is in full effect. But I can't stand these damn strings all over every track and, going full Grinch-mode, the songs are truly grating at this point.

It's a Christmas Album. 5/10

not a big christmas fan

The production is really nice and full. It’s just hard to enjoy because these songs are overplayed to death every single year. I cannot escape them, so why would I want to listen to them by choice?

The sound was good considering it was the early 1960s and Phil Spector produced it but these songs were wayyy too kitsch for me, even if I usually love listening to Christmas songs. As a European I can't stand this sort of kitsch.

Thats simply X mas

I didn’t listen to this one

I had it on while we were doing Christmas stuff so I wasn’t focused on it, but it didn’t really register as unique in any way.

Didn’t want any Christmas music 😂

Phil absolutely killed it with this one! However Christmas music is not necessary.

shout out to the horses whinnying at the beginning of "Sleigh Ride" i'm a fan of this style of musical production, but not a fan of christmas music, so i'm having a hard time figuring out how to rate this. it's all quite familiar, in a way that makes me feel like i'm in a mall in december, and its odd hearing such talented vocalists singing such dirt-simple songs as "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer." but in terms of christmas music, it could be much, much worse. i'm rating this before the album is finished and i'm not going to make myself listen to the rest.

A completely fine and inoffensive Christmas album punctuated by a weird spoken word greeting from a convicted murderer

I don’t have a lot of patience for Christmas music, but this did sound pleasant in a Spector-doing-his-thing way, and my kids did have a fun time dancing around to it, so I guess it did its job. Not bad!

Christmas music isn’t really my thing. As well, I’m listening to this two days after Christmas, so I guess it doesn’t really feel right anyway. Everything was technically good, I just wasn’t too into it. I would give it a 5/10, but I’m going to remove a point solely because it was made by a convicted murderer. Also because of that, the final track makes me uncomfortable! 4/10 Top 1: 1. The Bells of St. Mary

Ihan ok joululaululevyksi

Unnecessary self congratulations

What the hell is this? A compilation album of Christmas songs. On a list of albums you need to listen to? The only reason this should even be considered is if it was the first album like this ever released.

I've already heard this album 1001 times so I am indeed ready to die. The covers are good but it's still Christmas music, which means it feels forced and loud and toxically positive to a degree.

OK, between De 23 and 25.

Too xmassy

Who the fuck like christmas

Yes, I know it’s the wall of sound, but for me the songs sound all the same.

Nicht meine Richtung

Interessante Versionen, aber etwas einseitig.

Ich habs befürchtet 😱 - Weihnachtsmusik!

Nice Christmas album, but for my taste a little bit too vintage from a sound point of view. I more prefer current versions of older songs.

Listening to this while waiting for the train after a Christmas shift is something that I'm sure will become a nice memory somewhere in the not-too-distant future. To my non-American musical sensibilities, however, I must admit that I find the songs on here to be about as unsynonymous with the holiday season as humanly possible. What really offends is how indistinguishable the vocals and instrumentals are between songs, save for some of the hookier parts of the choruses. This album screams 'produced' to me more than any other album I've heard, with how little of a vision there is and how corporate the nature of it's existence is. Can't say I agree with the decision to lump this in with many of the greatest albums ever made sheerly for the modicum of cultural relevance that it has. ==================== Edit (8th of July, 2025): Okay, I was a little grinchy with my initial assessment of this album. It's perfectly fine. I just hadn't considered how long the 1-star list would be on my summary page if I rated every album that didn't interest me one star. Original rating: 1 star Amended rating: 2 stars

While I enjoyed the timing of this coming up, it feels like a strange inclusion for the list. Are there really many people who die without having heard this dozen or so schmaltzy Christmas standards? It’s essentially the 1960s edition of Now That’s What I Call Christmas so of course it contains all the festive classics but it feels out of place in the project for me. The narrated final track ruins Silent Night as well, sadly, and has me reaching for Simon & Garfunkel’s version to cleanse my palate. Roll on, Boxing Day. 2/1001

What a BLAST...

It’s always fun to hear Christmas songs in a difficult genre, unfortunately this is a genre that I kind of detest.

This album would get a higher rating had I not been so overwhelmed by Christmas music. Its a "the best of" Christmas album given on Christmas day, what other rating would be expected?

It’s Christmas!!!

Apologies in advance for what is going to be a very "Bah Humbug!" review. I don't particularly like Christmas music. It's the same eight songs covered by 93,765 artists -- most songs sound the same, though some artists want to put their own "spin" on the song. I'm not sure which strategy is more annoying. I don't particularly like 50s pop. This album is filled with, what I presume to be, big-time 50s pop stars. The Ronettes & Darlene Love do most of the lifting here, and it's...sigh. Look, I don't want to give it one star, but there's nothing here for me. I don't know who these artists are, and the songs I do know I've heard a million times, and most of these songs are essentially indistinguishable from anything I've ever heard before. I'll give it 2 stars because I feel guilty giving it 1 star, but, yeah.

This is a bunch of Christmas songs that everyone knows. All of them are secular and make no mention whatsoever to Christ. And almost all of them were written by Jews. Huh, what a coincidence. I'm sure they made a lot of money off this album.

Christmassy

Best Songs: Sleigh Ride, A Marshmallow World, Christmas Listen Again: Once a Year

Wall of Sound! I'll remember this for next Christmas.

I mean. It's Christmas music. Good for you popping up on Christmas, but still

It has some all-time great Christmas songs on it, but feels especially grimy with Spector's name all over it. It's clearly just another way of downplaying the acts and performers he used, in order to keep them reliant on him.

Christmas compilation album :/

need to listen next year

The 1001 site had the nice idea of making this album a Christmas day selection (I suspect for many of us). The problem is that these aren't particularly good holiday songs, even if you account for Spector's famous "Wall of Sound".

einmal mehr: weihnachtssongs

Nett, aber halt Weihnachtslieder. Hmnaja

Must you listen to Christmas music before you die? Yes. Must you listen to this Christmas album before you die? Ummm...is it the first if it's kind or something? I can name several other Christmas albums that are musts over this and they all don't have munk in the name I swear. It does put you in the spirit though but won't be an annual must for me...2.1stars cause I'm feeling grinchy.

Never been a fan of the Wall of Sound, and found it all a bit samey and shouty. Bah humbug.

Genre: Christmas Instruments: 3/5 Modern Translation: 4/5 Dance Potential: 1/5 Listening Location: woodworking in the garage Favourite Song: A Marshmallow World Made me feel: wanting more (base/commitment to the music). Don’t think the instrumental translated very well?

If I'm going to listen to 50s pop/rock, this album wouldn't be it.

It's a really, really good Christmas album, but it's a Christmas album for crying out loud!

One or two jams, the rest… meh

Ugh idk chas ned fair bewerte will eif kei bock uf wiehnachtlieder tbh drum chani scho etz sege dass ich das album ned ganz lose wird.. soery

The Christmas songs we know and errr....love? I guess? nothing special here no idea why it's on the list it's not like this particular production is amazing.

Pretty standard Christmas music

Nu pas geluisterd. Was kerst ja. Maar dat was t ook wel

How do you rate Christmas music? I appreciate the enthusiasm?

Had listened to too much Christmas music before coming into this

gut weihnachtslieder, aber phil spector anscheinend ganz mieser kerl

Christmas albums are low hanging fruits. They are okay, but they are there only to fulfill one single objective. All artists have one album, everybody likes them because it's always the same damn songs. Let's be real here, there's a factor of execution; but it doesn't require any originality or effort. I guess this album is okay, it has all the classics performed by several artists. It is a good compilation, but I can not give it a high rating. Expected Marc rating: 3

Not bad for a Christmas album but still a Christmas album

Nice album for Christmas morning, was a nice surprise. High 2.

I think I recognized the version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town. The rest were unfamiliar, though the general sound was familiar. On the whole, this felt like an old-timey album and I have no real desire to hear it again.

I am become Grinch, destroyer of Christmas.

White Christmas - i don't do christmas music at all but i think it's funny i'm listening to this 4 days late on top of it. (3/5 not my favorite christmas song) Frosty the Snowman - i really don't like this christmas song. man i'm in hell with these albums again. (1/5 i hate this song actually. i hate this side of 60s "groovy music") The Bells of St. Mary - my "ex-"catholic partner loves this song. time to see if this version fucks. (3/5 i don't think i can vibe with christmas music) S.C.I.C.T - the one thing i do appreciate, christmas songs tend to be pretty short. (4/5 okay i like this version with all the brass) Sleigh Ride - the retail version! (1/5 flashbacks honestly) A Marshmallow World - eh (3/5 it's not bad but i don't like it. it's not so CHRISTMAS about itself) I.S.M.K.S.C - i just don't like this sound. i think it's why i can't listen to Amy Winehouse. (2/5 probably the better version of this song that i've heard) R.R-N.R - oh i hate this so much (1/5 i never really cared for this one either) Winter Wonderland - i can finally type out the entire title. i'm surprised i have not heard this version in retail. (4/5 i would have listened to this at my grandparent's house and been okay with it) P.O.T.W.S - prisoners of the war santa something something. (2/5 i'm glad i've never heard this before. wish i could go back) Christmas - i don't care for the longing christmas songs either. (2/5 it sounded okay, but i hate the lyrics) Here Comes Santa Clause - :| (2/5 i don't like this song either god damn it. i didn't listen to the lyrics before. that was awful) Silent Night - oh bad bad bad bad. okay so i hate christmas music. i didn't realize how much i didn't like it. wow how awful. anway bringing the stats down 2/5

Kind of bland Christmas music, all similar sounding and rather noisy. Also tarnished by reading more about Phil Spector and his messed up life and life choices. I think the Ronettes stood out as the best of this album. I absolutely love Christmas music and question the value or importance of this album when compared to many, many others of supreme quality (see Nat King Cole specifically). Two stars.

I don't think I'm being extra judgemental because this is Christmas music, there's just many other versions of each of these songs I would much rather listen to. So, I'm going to pass on listening to this again.

It was well recorded and a nice break, but my tolerance for Christmas music is about 15 hours per annum.

I did listen to this after Christmas and wasn't feeling very Christmassy. But it just didn't seem that good or interesting.

BL: Spector is arguably the best producer of all time, and this compilation of his takes on some Christmas classics will be interesting to hear, even if I don’t particularly like Christmas music. AL: fascinating album. You just know this solidified Spector as one of music productions greats. In terms of the music. I hate Christmas music, so it was a hard listen. There is one song on here I do love though which is so good it subverts my hatred for Christmas music, “Baby Please Come Home” by Darlene Love. What a soulful and beautiful track. FT: “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” 2/5

Don't really enjoy listening to Christmas music at the best of times. Some nice renditions. Fave track: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

I guess you could do worse for Christmas music but you could also not listen to Christmas music by choice. Especially on or around Christmas where you will frequently hear it not by choice.

"Let's take classical Christmas songs and put a fuck ton of noise in the background" - Phil Spector, convicted murderer.

Old timey christmas music, fun but not exactly groundbreaking stuff

It's fine as Christmas albums go... but there's far too many generic Christmas songs out there and I don't need to spend 1 month every year being bombarded with them. I don't listen to sickly sweet songs filled with sleigh bells the rest of the year... because it's not a good sound. The talking at the end was cringey and unnecessary. Waiting until January to listen to it probably didn't help.

It’s a Christmas album, it’s only viable 4 weeks of the year. This should be on the list of albums of songs you’ll hear a 1001 times before you die.

I wish I had a sob story to justify not reviewing this earlier, but initially I didn't listen to this because I didn't want to be a Grinch, and then I just forgot. Well, it's lunar new year now, close enough. It's easy to listen to when it's not christmas. Actually, someone should listen to this album during every holiday and make a top-10 list of holidays this album goes best with.

Christmas time music. Probably would have enjoyed more if I had listened during the holidays. Missed opp.

It's not Christmas time, so feels weird to listen to Christmas songs

Don't even bother if you don't like Christmas music

It’s probably fine for what it is but I can’t stand Christmas music

Pretty cheery standard Christmas music. Gotta dodge the Ronettes the whole album because I hate that woman’s voice more than life itself. Pretty same-y, which is a product of the Christmas music but still makes this pretty boring in the grand scheme of things.

Ugh I love Phil Spector's wall of sound but I hate Christmas music....I'm so conflicted.

Yuck i really dont enjoy christmas music that much

Just another Xmas album

Lol, no

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Sleigh Ride (5) 2 - Winter Wonderland (9) 3 - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (7)

I'm going to spoil Christmas spirit for a bit. I'm not a fan of Christmas Carol's, especially those americanised versions. It's really nice to listen to once per lifetime, but those songs are being spoon-fed into you for few months every year. It is extremely hard to try being objective about this album. Music, or the vocals, are in 60s funky, rock style, which probably was pretty original at the time, but I'm afraid, quite unlistenable for me now. Merry Christmas!

I thought we weren't doing compilation albums on here?

I love Christmas albums but this one did not work for me. The Phil Spector sound just didn't seem right in this context.

Quite a lot of highlights, but in the end, even at just over 30 minutes it's a bit too much. Like working in a supermarket

Too much … wrong end of Christmas day No more mince pies

Wall of sound

I like my christmas albums served with a dash of murder

Idk it’s Christmas music and it was fine. Merry chrimbas

Yep, this was Christmas music alright

Tuttuja joululauluja, ei voi vihata.

Ei ylitä käyttötarkoitustaan.

I don't like christmas songs at all, but there are worst ones

Who knew there was a whole wall of sound Christmas album? It's February, not really feeling the Christmas vibe.

joyeux noël à tous

Nice songs and nice vocals. I shouldn't lower score due to overplaying, however each of these songs now are just nothing but background music as they get played every single year so I have to rate based on how much fun I had listening and that's not a lot at all.

Thank you Phil! I'll try not to regift.

Good singing. It's a Christmas album. what else to say

No me gusta

I mean it's pretty obvious what to expect from this album.... 2,5

Chrismas

This is a compilation of good versions of Christmas songs with a weird outro track by Phil Spector, which kind of puts a weird taint on the album as a whole. These are great covers of these Christmas songs but I don’t see myself coming back to this album to listen to it as a whole. No specific standout tracks because they’re all good versions and I didn’t dislike any except that last track, which is just Spector talking.

Bore off mate

Sugary and Twee in a way that only a combination of Christmas songs and the early 60's can deliver. I've never been one for Christmas songs, and that's not something that listening to this collection of (admittedly iconic) songs is going to change unfortunately. I know a lot of people love this kind of thing but I just cant buy into it, its just far too cutesy and sentimental for me. There is however some great vocals and musicianship on show here. And it is a curiosity because of the Wall of Sound production style being applied to these songs. Definitely a little bit interesting, just really really not for me.

A Christmas Gift For You From Convicted Murderer Phil Spector is an anthology of Christmas songs. As is evidenced in the title it is produced by Phil Spector who is not to be celebrated. And yet, this record was made before the murders and performed by artists who also very likely find Phil's later life to be a tragedy all the way around. If Christmas is your thing, it's a great collection of holiday songs—many of which have become classics. So, 5 Stars for the music minus 3 stars for Phil Spector spoiling this album's legacy.

I don't like christmas music. At least it's classics and not also modern stuff...

Old timey Xmas music. Too jangly for me

Some good songs, but only when in Christmas mood

I don't like listening to Christmas records, even at Christmas, so this is rather wasted on me. Have to admit I do like Santa Claus is Coming to Town, but otherwise I will pass if that's all the same to you

I pulled some tracks from here for another playlist.

I can't stand Christmas music, but if I am going to listen to it, this is probably the best of it.

Me aburren los discos de navidad

Not interesting

I very much dislike Christmas music and I don’t care who produces it. It grates my ears and my head hurts at the thought. That said this was well produced even if the songs gave me a migraine.

I don’t like Christmas albums 😭

Superstore christmas music

Fine Christmas album and could hear the wall of sound. Spector was an awful person.

It’s fine it’sa Christmas album

I actually hate Christmas music. Call me a cynic, but it’s boring and all the music is just repeated year after year. Nobody can write a modern day Christmas song without making it sexual (I’m looking at you Justin Bieber). This is well deserved as my first 2 star. The songs are good and I can’t hate on the Ronettes, but goddamnit, I’m sick of it.

Christmas music sucks and I refuse to celebrate a bastardized holiday of another religion... I'm no idolator. But +1 stars bc philly specs was Jewish and making a profit off of another religion is kinda cool

Darlene love carried xoxo

idk dude it’s fine for a christmas album, but there are plenty of better ones out there and it really doesn’t stand on its own any other time of the year

i don’t personally enjoy christmas music but people love it so whatever

hope he kept the receipt

Yeah . . . naw.

ho ho ho

Big fan of Christmas songs usually, but most of these were pretty flat. A few exceptions but I dont even have the enthusiasm to remind myself and type them here. If Phil gifted this to me, I’d probably regift it next year.

I prefer other versions of almost every song. The Wall of Sound effect doesn't help. +1 bump for bad behaviour.

Gunshot from Phil spector

As a christmas album it's quite ok, but since I like to listen to christmas music only one week a year, I can't give it more stars.

As far as Christmas albums go this wasn't terrible

god jul

Several of these tracks are well known to me, not least because they're on Natalie's 37 hour "Legendary Christmas" Spotify playlist. I can get into the mood for them one at a time. But a whole album is way too much!

I just can't help but imagine that Phil Spector held a gun to all of these artist's heads while they sang christmas carols. 2

I didn't need to hear this before i died. I hear it yearly

I’m not a Christmas music person at all.

There's too much joy in this. I prefer sad Christmas music and crooner vibes.

I hate Christmas. I hate Christmas music. This isn't going to go vry well, is it? I tried to listen this through the prism of the production alone. The way the sounds attacks you like a tidal wave is fantastic. But they're singing about Christmas. I hate Christmas. I hate Christmas songs.

Don't like

Bit shit

Merry chrysler

Christmas in July.. Uhmmm it's not bad but why is on the list?

My timing may have been off since this queued up for me weeks after Christmas Day, so I was not in a festive frame of mind. But trying this out off-season I get it there's the corny Christmas songs, Phil Spector style, and a record that might be a big hit at a party next December.

Ugh

Awfull

As interesting as it is to listen to an album by the acclaimed music producer Phil Spector, remembering half way though the album that he was a convicted murderer really put a damper on the Christmas spirit he is trying to convey here. Musically I though the sound was a bit to muddy for my taste although that might be due to streaming the album. Either way I will not be playing this to get me in the mood for Christmas next year.

Best Song: Sleigh Ride. Feels like the distillation of a Christmas movie montage. Worst Song: Frosty the Snowman. I think I just find this song obnoxious, regardless of version. Overall: Well-produced Christmas music, but still just Christmas music.

standard geld jólaplata

Seriously? Boh, non male, ma boh.

Very fitting for today (Christmas Eve), I guess it's done that way on purpose. These are all the classic songs we've heard many times before. I don't really care for most Christmas songs, but these are produced and performed really well.

Would rather the originals.

Christmas albums are usually par for the course barring some weird deviation from tradition. While not weird, the chaotic elements of drumming with heavy tambourines seem to make the album feel rushed, with each carol feeling laborious as a result. This compilation is par for the course. It is not special, and honestly it seems to be giving something it does not have, and that is heart, until we get to "Sleigh Ride" a near instant recognizability given how ubiquitous this version of the song has become in modern pop culture. Eventually, we reach the second most popular song on the album, another pop staple in "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Two out of thirteen songs on a compilation album should be an accomplishment, maybe? Either way, there is much to be thankful for in this album and being part of the Christmas rotation (if not just the two aforementioned songs) is encouraged.

fuck phil spector

Not sure why I'm listening to Xmas music in the spring but I guess it doesn't matter. Nothing particularly new or exciting here but that's the point.

Bah humbug. Doesn't even have the best Xmas song, Santa Baby

Would be good to have on in the background of a holiday party with coworkers and acquaintances. Very cheery, but I like my Christmas music with a little more, how you say, soul.

pretty good christmas album as far as they go, it's not Shatner Claus though

I'm skipping this because I'm a week behind, it's now January 3rd, and I can't take anymore Christmas music. Still - I can honestly say that I heard every song on this album at least once over Christmas break. I listened to them individually and mostly on purpose. They are Christmas classics, one and all. White Christmas by Irving Berlin and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love are my favorite on the list. Blue Christmas by Elvis, Please Come Home for Christmas by the Eagles, This Christmas by Donny Hathaway, and Back Door Santa by Clarence Carter are the notable snubs (granted, these wouldn't fit the "classic" genre as well). But - as a "Top 1001" album? No. No compilations. I could make a compilation of the greatest songs ever - it would still have no place on this list.

Spector was a madman. I don't much like his 'wall of sound' and the music is all pure pop - fine for supermarkets and children, but gives the serious listener nothing worth keeping - except the occasional earworm. I've got Frostie the Snowman stuck in my head which is very annoying..

There are two types of people - those that love Christmas music, and those who loathe to hear it. I fall into the latter camp. Love the holidays, hate the music. No thanks.

Got this on Boxing Day, so the theme fit. Other than that, why is this on the list?

I mean… for Christmas music, you could do worse.

How very festive.

I'm sick of this shit being played everywhere for the whole fucking December. And "White Christmas" sung by a woman? The craziest thing in the whole history of music.

Points go the Ronettes and Darlene's "Baby Please Come Home." The Bob B Soxx tracks are noisy and busy, my least favorite. Darlene is ok, she has a great voice and I like her style shifts within the tracks. Her songs are the most original, and "Baby Please Come Home" is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Her other songs get a little cheesy here and there. The Crystals are decent; I love them most for their "Then He Kissed Me" hit. They're clear and harmonious, with a great jazz solo, incorporating the Christmas sound well into R&B, but otherwise the most forgettable. I don't think any of the tracks are remarkably special, although it's great for upbeat Christmas celebration, cheery and pure. The Ronettes are by far my favorite. I love Veronica's voice and the harmonious back vocals. I can tell who Winehouse's #1 inspiration was. I thought "Frosty the Snowman" was perfect, "Sleigh Ride" has a bit of an annoying side but very traditional pop-like, and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" had the most attractive vocals. My only complaint is that I don't find the instrumentals to be very interesting, kinda generic.

It’s a Christmas album. It’s enjoyable and some of the songs are better renditions than other peoples. 5.0/10

Remember that 1960’s Christmas song? You know the one? It’s on this album.

its Christmas songs from a bunch of Motown era artists 2.5

As the world’s most famous celebrant of Festivus, the holiday for the rest of us, I’d like to say I’ve been tired of Christmas songs forcibly drilled into my head long before the cheap trick of being pushed on with this album on Christmas Day.

2/5 nothing much

This opened the floodgates for so much Christmas music by popular musicians, which isn't a good thing. Annoying to listen to as an album, even on Christmas. 4/10

forcing me to listen to christmas music on christmas. good selection but i’m not a fan

I really really really dislike Christmas music, but a lot of classics here and I know it's not bad, but it's a 2 from me dawg.

I hate Christmas songs.

Oh well, timing is all.

Not my style.

Parempiakin versioita löytyy

Not the best versions of these Christmas songs.

So its thing is that it kinda sounds like Pet Sounds but without any edge at all? Add to that that I'm already ambivalent on Christmas music and am listening to this in February. Pretty neat that it's had such an impact on how pop Christmas tunes are arranged. And it does sound nice.

1963. Key Songs: Frosty the Snowman

Not really my vibe

It’s a Christmas album

I really tried to listen to the album .. But i'd rather get into a fist fight with an Elve on Christmas Eve ..

Every old Christmas song I've heard every year the whole of my life. It was like torture to hear them all at once. But I did try and listen with a fresh approach and not just as background music wherever you go from December onwards. Overplayed and not really anything more than a bunch of gimmicky songs. Production not for me, very indistinct instruments, apart from the sleigh bell sounds and brass. Silent night is truly awful, can do without the message thanks.

It’s sodding January.

Terrible!

Naaaaaa

It's a collection of annoying Christmas songs that I never want to listen to again.

Call me a Scrooge but I just don't like Christmas music, and the fantastic artists here don't redeem that preference. I suppose if I had to put on Christmas music, it would be something like this. However this is getting downgraded because fuck Phil Spector.

No way I'm going to listen to Christmas songs, I thought. Then I decided to try. But I failed. It's unbearable.

Why is a Christmas compilation on a list of albums I need to hear? Full disclosure, I don't like Christmas music. That said, this was a pretty good album for what it was. The singing was pleasant and cheerful, the music fit the vibe, and it felt well-done as a whole. I didn't hate it, which is a big win for any Christmas album. Even so, I can't rate this highly. I just don't agree that an album of holiday songs is a must-listen. There's nothing special about a compilation of music like this. Overall: 1.5/5

Hahah nice

While do respect people who think separating art from the artist and agree to disagree, i personally think an art in any form is representative of a person and that person's cumulative experiences, emotions and characteristics through life. And this album, despite being labeled as "THE christmas album" by many, including myself, does not deserve a penny or recognition. There are millions of songs out there that one can focus their attention to, and a murderer's isn't one of them.

Christmas music is created by the devil himself, and I refuse to suffer through this. Would rather listen to another album by Elvis Costello, the muppet.

Wasn't Phil Spector a diddler? Or was it murderer?

Its fricken Christmas music. Im a grinch. A scrooge. Its not my favorite thing at all. Its wild that we listen to these same songs for 3 months a year every year until our great great great grandchildren die. Thats my biggest problem woth this stuff. Its just beyond old at this point. Id take any kind of real mixup. Something. Anything. I will give this collection props on not being the defacto versions of all of these songs. Some toward the second half seem like it but the first half is all versions of the same old songs I haven't heard before. I get Elf vibes. Like the movie. None of these are in there but I could see it. Im jot into it at all bit at least ive crossed this off and I hope that I dont have to hear this type of stuff next year on Xmas. I can hope at least

Don’t make me listen to the gift from the killer.

I hate christmas music

Did not listen. I don't like Christmas and I don't particularly like men who kill women.

Classic but a bit boring

It's definitely Christmas music. 5 star Easter egg. 5 star Christmas album? 1 star album any other day of the year. Bah! Humbug!

Did not listen to it. Don't care much for Christmas songs

i don't celebrate Christmas.

This was always gonna rate low I can't lie, fuck christmas songs no shade to the talent😭 lowk Darlene popped off w white Christmas

Tja tis kerstmuziek

I hate Christmas music.

Natal fodase

I really, really don't like Christmas songs. I really don't.

It’s christmas and this is a christmas album.

No thanks

Aaaaaaaaaaaas

#41 Working in retail during the holiday season over 10 years ago has killed any love for Christmas songs

Hard pass

Sorry Phil

not a fan of the style

Range of artists on this album is limited, although they are good. There are much better Christmas albums out there, even for that era. Especially ones that don't feature the elephant in the room.

Christmas songs are the lowest form of music.

Nope! Next...

I'm not the Grinch. This probably doesn't deserve a low rating, but I simply don't like Christmas music. Huge respect to the artists who participated in the album, though. The production is good too.

Grauenhaft!

Deplorable

I don't celebrate Christmas and Phil Spector is a murderer. Never cared for Christmas music as a result. Pass.

TIL Phil Spector is a murderer

Nein, geht gar nicht.

When I started this I gave myself a ten skip limit, and I believe I’ve only used one so far. Well this year for Christmas I decided to gift myself one additional skip which I’ll be using right now! Seriously, it’s not even about Phil Spector being a murderer. That obviously sucks, I just really hate Christmas music. I’m still giving star ratings, based on how I think I’d like the albums I skip. I know there is a button to click specifically for albums we didn’t listen to, but I’m not using it.

Did not listen, not interested in Spector nor Christmas songs!

Didn’t listen, didn’t care

Yowza wowza! A christmas gift from my favorite murderer of all time? Gee golly, I sure do love christmas music!

Fucking christmas music...

This is a mess. From start to finish a cash in with barely any charm. This is an unwanted morass

I write this on 12/26, completely Christmased out. Also, Phil Spector is a wanker and a ghoul.

I got two songs in. Just no.

Phil absolutely slaughtered this production. Too bad he killed a girl. 1/5

Okay, it's a Christmas album, so what what makes this any different from any of a thousand other Christmas albums?

I work in a grocery store. This crap is all I hear all December. This is not enjoyable for me. Makes me want to rip my hair out. I hate christmas music.

Blah ! Blah ! BLAH !

The same Phil Spector who went to jail for second degree murder of Lana Clarkson, and has a history of violence with guns and women. Judging from the dates of reviews, this album has been shoved under peoples noses since 2020 on or around Christmas day. Some people should be erased from glorification, not from history, so 1001 deems it fit to shove a woman killer and hater under your nose on Christmas day. Fuck you 1001.

...Will we be alive to receive it?

Phil Spector – A Christmas Gift For You erschien 1963 und wurde in den Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles aufgenommen.

No good reviews for misogynist murderers.

i hate christmas and hate christmas music even more

I didn't listen to it but fuck Phil Spector on principle

All songs sound the same, and Brian Wilson did the wall of sound technique a lot better. Spector wishing me a merry Christmas on Silent Night is macabre.

No me gustó.

It might be Christmas day but I really don't like Christmas music

Put this on the upstairs speakers during the morning in Christmas. Very pleasant time. It is Christmas music though and Christmas music does suck unless it’s Nate cole so 1/5

idk bro

Lots of classic Christmas songs, but none of them are 1st 2nd or even 3rd preferred versions of the songs

This is either 2 stars or 4 stars no in between

Undeniable talent on these songs, but I despise Christmas Music.

i dont want to listen to this i dont like christmas music i know these songs

Murderer!

impossible to talk about this album without talking about phil spector who is A Right Bastard. just like, WOW, is he awful. i loosely knew of him prior to listening but i didn't appreciate the intensity of *how* evil the guy was, so of course he's widely influential on the development of pop because he figured out how to sell records. "what if we made the record sound like dogshit because we're targeting car radios" is maddening that it was effective because frequently people think louder = better, and boy is this loud!!! it's exhausting. it's quite literally wrong to listen to this on headphones, but either way it's an acoustic brick being thrown at mach 10 at your head. the frustrating thing to me about a cruel tyrant like spector is that i do not believe for a second that his sociopathic torturing of musicians was meritful to the creative or financial success of records he produced. it's all smoke and mirrors in purpose of mythmaking about his supposed 'genius' and the false necessity of suffering to produce great art. merry christmas.

I hate holiday music. Also, this has no effect on my rating, but does the creator know how funny it is that his Christmas "gift" to us is making us listen to an album produced by a psychopathic murderer?

Phil Spector is a convicted murderer

Killer arrangements. Get this off the list. 0/5

I dislike Christmas songs because of the way they are incessantly played in so many places I go to from early November each year. The 'original' songs are bad enough, but re-writes (usually American) that try to improve on the originals and then fail are worse still. I don't care if it's Phil Spector's Wall of Sound - all the fancy production techniques in the world can't improve the content. Bah Humbug!

Umm excuse me Mr 1001 albums where was my Hanukkah album? Not essential.

1. I don’t really need to hear a collection of christmas music before I die. It’s christmas music. I’ve heard it 2. and there’s a reason we quarantine it to a specific time of the year 3. we particularly do not need a standards compilation “gifted” to us by an abusive murderer, we can grapple with his involvement in other better albums but i respect myself too much to do that for fuckin christmas music this rating is in no way a slight to the musicians and entirely about the existence of christmas music on this album list
