Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Možda upravo zato nisam shvatio viziju i prosvetljeničku moć ovog albuma. Staviću nulu kao ocenu za ovaj album. Aaaalii umesto ovog sam slušao goatmare & the hellspades i to je već 5/5

Like a lot of desert blues, it’s too twangy and does not have enough variation or build in the songs.

WTF? I need English please.

1/5 Was so close to being great, but I just didn’t really vibe with the singing.

I can hear the musicality but not one for me, a little bored to be honest

Found this really boring

Not for me.

Just not for me. I couldn’t get through it.

Savane by Ali Farka Touré is a beautifully crafted album, but I have to admit I found it quite boring. There’s no denying the musical quality here, it's rich, warm, and full of gorgeous interplay between guitar lines and traditional instruments. The sound is unique and undeniably atmospheric. But that atmosphere drifts into the background far too easily. Before long, the album becomes something you forget is even playing, and despite the beauty, it just never held my attention. I found myself waiting for it to end, and I can’t see myself returning to it. Favourite track: Soya is a lovely, gentle highlight. Least favourite track: The title track Savane felt particularly dull. Album artwork: A fitting cover that sets the tone for the music inside.

Not my thing.

I guess if you're looking for a mid 2000's blues album sung in a language you don't speak...

Not for me. 1/5

Not sure I understand why it is on the list

I've never heard of him. I don't know the context and I don't want to know the context. I mean, ok there's an interesting mix of influences for whatever it is supposed to be, but it just reeks of a nice snooze on Saturday afternoon at Womadelaide. I'll never listen to this again.

Not for me

Just really boring and didn't keep my attention, instruments sounded weird and didn't match each other well

African Blues is worse than American Blues, one song is all it takes for me to know that is true. This is truly like if blues and traditional African/Middle Eastern music had a baby. This is the kind of music you'd find on in a West African restaurant where only rich white people who are looking for "authenticity" eat. There's nothing wrong with the music, it's just more like something decent to have on in the background rather than an album I want to listen to all the way through. The mores blues driven songs are much better. That's not a very high bar to cross though. N'jarou is probably the best song on the album.

Not for me. I could only get thru 5 songs.

I’m sue this is skillfully crafted music but I didn’t understand or relate to it at all

Nah. Not for me.

NPR world-beat wankery.

To be perfectly candid: This music has never been my jam. I can see why people may like it and at some points it was very relaxing, but in general not for me.

Not a fan.

Each song is kind of the same droning guitar riff over and over and over and over and over and then there’s some western African singing over top of that. It’s not like… awful to listen to. It’s good for when I’m working or something. Or if you were running you could keep a good pace with the tempo of the songs. But nothing really stuck with me. And I feel like this album is only on this list because it’s a very influential artist. The album itself didn’t really feel like anything all that magnificent. 1 ⭐️

Not my type of genre

Apparently, this guy is "the African John Lee Hooker." I could kinda hear it but also not for me

Not really my style. Didn't really care for it.

No clue what was even being said half the time but I’m sure it’s decent if u can understand it

Für mich unhörbar.

Seriously ...

Too bad, I thought I would hear new blues for myself. There were also a few good approaches. Nevertheless, it did not meet my taste at any point. More and more the music got on my nerves. When I jumped for minutes in individual pieces and didn't notice any change, I stopped the album. 1/5

Why this? It is soooo boring

Going in, I already know that blues is something I do not vibe with at all, so just going with the flow of the music is hardly an option for me. Flow, to me, feels like something to groove to, perhaps even dance a little, but this album suffers heavily from seemingly having nothing going on. Perhaps lyrically it is more investible, or maybe I should be blown away by the guitar picking, which I can admit is technically quality, but is incredibly dull, and the appearance of minimal percussion as well as rarely a brass or woodwind instrument, just leaves the album feeling barren. Not in a personal nor gripping way, but rather something to understand as its bare minimum the moment you hear it. Once you hear the first track, that't it, you are not getting something deeper here. It won't have a shocking twist track, it won't courtesy you and change to something more interesting, and even if you are a person only here for the "vibe," its hour long runtime only aims to make every track even more repetitive. I was sick of the songs here, ten minutes in, so another forty-five only lead to pure annoyance. It never dives into something offensive, and maybe you'll find yourself getting it more than me and be pleased by the overloaded tracks, but I find this to be a pretty obvious case of an album receiving more praise due to its creator sadly passing away before it release, and while that is a shame, and I mean that, I do not see anything truly remarkable about the music. Add in the fact that this from 2006, and I fail to see why this would be any more essential than any other blues record, and the genre crossover of Songhai music does nothing to the blues presented other than making something more dry a little more humid, and that isn't really a good thing, I feel. Tedious, and due to its length, annoying.

There were some cool sounds from a large variety of instruments, I wouldn't say it was bad but I did not really enjoy it. Music didn't really go anywhere

Too much happening musically

Did not listen

Not for me.

I have started listening to all albums twice, when I have the time (no, not the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), because I’ve found that getting more familiar with the album and knowing more what to expect, mostly impacts rating positively. This time, I only got more annoyed and took it down one star. That’s how little I like this album

In some places early on in Savane, it really reminded me of southern Italian folk music from the 50s and 60s. There were some ok sounds and motifs throughout, yet after about halfway though the album, as I had no connection to anything, I wanted nothing more than to tune right out and pretty much turn it off. Almost pushing 1 hour is too long. Best: Yer Bounda Fara Worst: Gambari Didi

Maybe, if I understood the lyrics, it might be ok……….oh, who am I kidding, this is awful. Pretty sure AI is picking these albums and laughing at the inferior humans.

Not my favorite

I found this incredibly boring

i wonder if the book contains any insight into why albums like this are chosen

boring, so monotonous

Not my type of genre

Musically sound and I’m sure there is great talent there, but the music was not to my taste.

This is just an album I can’t really understand and it falls short on my musical knowledge. It sounded fine but this is in a category of music that I have little knowledge of and don’t really enjoy. Not gonna revisit this one. 2.0/10

not bad music! just not something I would typically listen to

Wow. That sucked about as much as something can suck. Never again.

This shit was sum ass. It’s some foreign chanting and folk guitar man this sounds like a whole lot of world music

African blues sound like country and just didn't get on with it.

I dont like african country

seemed promising but i don’t like it sorry. not very fun

No no, de binguna manera.

Not really my thing

Not for me.

Het turkse muziekinstrument klinkt wel grappig, maar de muziek zelf is wat rommelig. Ik vind het niks eigenlijk. De Arabische spraak vind ik ook niet lekker klinken in deze muziek. *

I did not enjoy this album.

Not my thing but I appreciate the effort.

Not my thing

No me gusta nada la música africana

I'm sure this is an amazing album for a lot of people but it just didn't do it for me. The title track, Savane, was probably my favorite.

Wasn't my jam, couldn't get into the messy sounding music.

Cover vibes: thousand starts Actual content: 1 little star :(

Foreign language, strange melody. Didn't like it.

Vestafrikansk, c2c-sample, god vokal
