Reviews (page 7 of 7)
she had a very nice voice and i liked one of the songs but this kind of country music reminds me of very early childhood which is kind of triggering
Lets go med country, følsomt, melankolsk, stille og roligt
Not bad, but stylistically just not my thing.
Didnt finish but not for me. Also not bad music
Standouts: Love at the Five and Dime The album seems fine. Never heard of her before and I've listened to Country music from time-to-time throughout my 55 years... 2.5
This just irritates me. I put on some beach boys to clean out my ears.
Malo mi je falilo neke inspiracije u albumu. Ima taj yeehaw šarm al nema jos nest uz to
I guess i should return to this one at some point. It was fine, but I didn't pick up on what makes it exceptional or noteworthy.
She would have a pretty voice, but it's a little too trilly and thin. The tunes themselves are pleasant but not particularly memorable.
Expertly played, but corny as a corn dog.
Country. Inte bra men inte vedervärdigt
Made Shannah sad. (2/5) Bill says she got better. (2.5/5) Conor thought it was ok. (2.5/5) (2.3/5)
It's a very country & western sound with some folky influences. With the flutes, violin, slide guitar, banjo it has quite a slick Americana sound. The songwriting certainly isn't bad, but this really isn't for me. It's foundation is too much of the twangy country sound.
Hi- Goin' Gone, Fly By Night I didn't like country before I listened, but while this is DEFINITELY Country, it is not unpleasant, reminds me of Karen Carpenter, Joni Mitchell, and Natalie Merchant, with a country twang.
First time hear the album. Heard the name before. Of course, I knew Goin' Gone before hearing the rest of the album, but that was it. The album is good. Not a lot really stood out as amazing, but on the whole, it was a good listen and enjoyable. Other songs: The Last of the True Believers. Love at the Five and Dime. I think with more listens this album will get stronger. 2.5/5
Stop giving me this god awful country music. If I listened to this a second time I would die of boredom.
Not good. Not good at all. Boring AF.
I’m sure if you like this type of music it’s awesome. Alas..
GODDAMN COUNTRY MUSIC Whiny and intolerable as usual
Politely & with all respect, no thanks
My review for "a rush of blood to the head" by coldplay got lost, so here that goes for posterity: That was a 5/5 for me because I love early coldplay and there are so many iconic songs in this album. I loved how layered their songs get based on simple riffs. A melancholy album. Highlights: clocks, the scientist, in my place, warning sign The last of the true believers is, however, a country album. I deeply dislike country, and this album is not the exception.
Country, 45 eme album =>1/5 Très mauvais week-end cette semaine ...
Not really my cup of tea. I couldn't get into this one.
not even trying to be a ‘i listen to everything but country’ guy but i dont like country music
I just can’t with country music.
Real bad.
County fair bandstand filler. Awful.
this was pretty boring
Nope. Simply not for me, sorry, nope :-(
I'm probably not American enough to fully appreciate this. It belongs to a subculture I know little about, can't relate to and don't really care for. Nanci Griffith has a very nice voice and I'm sure she's good in her own field, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't get into slow country. This was almost painful to listen for me, it's so sickly sweet that it gives me heartburns. I had to fraction it into smaller bites to finish it. 2/10
Nice voice, 2 sweet songs. That’s about all.
Awful cliché country pop music with awful cliché lyrics.
Muy country para mi gusto
The last of the music I would want to listen to. If you asked me to judge one of these songs in isolation, I would likely say: “This song is fine, but I’m glad it will end and that other, completely different songs will play in the sonic space it occupied, for which it barely earned its welcome.” That’s how I usually talk at parties. But together? How many songs do you want me to listen to with instruments that sound like they’re made of used tin cans? And backing harmonies featuring the bus driver from the Simpsons? Nah.
Nah that’s not for me
🤨 what are we doing here
i don't like country
An agonizingly generic effort that epitomizes the stagnation of the country-folk genre. Despite a "clean" production, the album offers zero technical challenge, relying on rudimentary song structures and uninspired lyrical themes. For a listener seeking complexity, dynamic range, or sonic innovation, this record is a hollow experience, proving that a polished mix cannot compensate for a total lack of artistic depth
This album has a single song with over a million streams on Spotify. All other songs are under 600k streams. Not sure how it can be influential when no one wants to listen? And after listening to it yesterday I don't think I will ever listen again either.
I see a lot of people complaining about albums they hate from this project on reddit and the answer is always "the whole point of doing this is expose yourself to new music! Be open-minded!" Well, I have been very open-minded and have discovered lots of new music that I've enjoyed, even loved. That's all to say that this album sucked so bad. I want those 36 minutes back.
I hate Country & Western
I will forget about this one Will I listen to again: 0%
I really can’t get away with the country music. The female singer is definitely a lot nicer to listen to if it’s country that’s on, that’s for sure. I think the album cover is really cool, it’s raw & unique. I promise I try to get into these it’s just something that isn’t for me I’m afraid, I’m sure it’s someone’s somewhere favourite album, but it’s just something I can’t get into. That being said, she has a nice voice. Favourite tracks are: ‘More Than A Whisper’.
Not my style—at all. ★
Listen, the good news is the album is a merciful 36 minutes long. The bad news is it seems you have failed to listen to 1001 albums in time, have died, and gone to music hell.
This album did nothing for me. There wasn’t a song that stood out from the rest. The whole album sounds so homogenous and boring. I know that country music tends to be that way. But you can get more variety out of the sound if you take some bold risks. But this album does not do that. I listened to it in its entirety 2 times and I still didn’t save any tracks.
Yee Haw (Derogatory)
Yanks love to moan in the comment section about there being too many British bands but we have to listen to album after album of the most homogeneous twee shite recorded.
Really, why was this album chosen to be on here? I don't really like country in general, but this is not even a good country album. The voice is too nasal for my liking and the songs are very unremarkable. It was short, but still too long. 1/5
Inside that Woolworths store on the cover of this album, are generic plain wrap items. This album would be a plain wrap album labeled generic country music. No buyer would be disappointed. Unless you don't like generic country music. Thus the star
1 star i just generally enjoy heavier sound and also thus genre ain't for me ig
Barf. Nope. Nice voice, but so generic. I'll say deserving of a 1.
All the country music is dragging my average down, but country music is an abomination and this album is no different.
Did nothing for me. The album felt like a generic slice of country-folk, with predictable melodies, overly sentimental lyrics, and a sound that never strayed from safe territory. Griffith’s voice, while technically fine, lacked emotional depth or grit. The production was polished to the point of blandness, and none of the songs stood out or made me feel anything. If this is considered a classic, it only reinforces why I don’t connect with country music.
This sucks big time
simplemente no es lo mío 1/5
Reeeeeally very uninterested.
Nope... Not liking that Folk
nope, couldn't finish
not really into country so it is a miss for me however the songwriting is quality
And I thought I kinda liked her. Total shite!
Not for me.
Going into this album, I had never heard of The Last of the True Believers or Nanci Griffith, so I approached it with an open mind and no expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t resonate with me. The album leans heavily into whimsical, folk-inspired melodies, paired with a generally upbeat tone and optimistic lyrics. While I can appreciate the craftsmanship and charm that others might enjoy, it simply wasn’t to my taste. Favourite track: I couldn’t single one out. Least favourite: The entire album didn’t connect with me personally. Album artwork: The cover is nicely done—pleasant and fitting for the genre. In the end, while this album clearly has a warm spirit and strong folk roots, it's just not my style.
I am just glad it is over
I tried. I really tried.
I do NOT like this kinda music
Dirge
it's country. what can i say
No, thanks.
It's country. What else can I say? Yikes.
I can't stand male country singers, am I supposed to like female singers? Nope, nope, nope! Just sweet, wimpy crap. Hey, and listen to this too; country singers' voices sound really similar. Nanci Griffith, never heard of her and I won't listen to her either. I skipped through the record and that's it. Yes, you can find something like that at Woolworth's. As far as I can remember, it was a junk shop here in Germany, and "The Last True Believer" definitely belongs there.
Yeah… it’s really not for me. This is the type of country I do not like

Booooooooooo
This list has turned my ambivalence about country into active dislike. Great, thanks a lot for that.
I hated the first 5 seconds instantly. Blooming country music. After ten minutes every song is blurring into the previous one. Listening to the lyrics is like being stuck on the seat behind some loud teenage girl on public transport.
Not my thing
Utterly forgettable country songs. Belee Dat.
Odd.
It's way too "jodel-didodel" for me. And in my ear every songs sounds kind of the same. Also not a huge fan of country, so not my cup of tea, sorry.
This album enraged several people in the flat. Don’t think we made it to the end. Not a great genre imho.
This was actually one I couldn’t make it to the end of. Not my fave genre and unfortunately each song felt like Groundhog Day 🥲
难听疯了,这张是真的没听完
Oof. wouldn't listen to anything on this again.
Saai, raakte er geïrriteerd door.
I thought the opening track wasn't bad and she has a good voice. But it descended into the usual country rubbish
I really don't like country music.
Nooopeee, don't enjoy country and especially not this kinda country, my bad.
Not much of a country music fan and this did nothing to change my mind.
No.
Country.... nicht mein Ding
This album served one purpose only. To reinforce my view that Country is literally the most regressive, pathetic and offensive music known to humankind. This is literally what Cancer would record if it was let into Abbey Road.
Good voice. Just not my shit
I tried, this was sleep inducing.
The Woolworth's in the background of the album cover is the only place she could convince to play this driveling wannabe-sixties-country-folk pablum. 1.0/5.0: Embarrassing
oh god what have I done in my life to deserve this
The dance floor will shake at a barn dance in Texas. I am not a Texan and I wouldn't visit such an event. I don't like American-Texan folk music any more than I like German Schlager. I can't get anything out of the music. 1/5
No va.
Just a bit saccharine for me, there's way better country albums out there.
Not my thing at all. Really boring country Americana singer songwriter love songs. So cheesy and sincere. Eurgh x
Whilst I like English folk music and always receptive to listening to it I’ve never quite got American country music. Whilst Nancy has a lovely voice I just do not like the accompanying countyfide instrumentation. Woolworths on the other hand I did love. Bought many a good album on vinyl and CD there and the pic’n’mix was to die for. Never had a Luncheonette there though. Sadly Nancy and Woolworths are no longer with us so will have to wallow in the nostalgia of Woolworths and I’m sure that the millions of Nancy fans will play her music evermore but I’m not one of them. 1/5 30/3/24
This is disturbingly like cuntry music. It isn't as objectionable as most, but it still lunches on truck nuts and domestic abuse.
Can't imagine something much more boring than this
Not really a fan of country music
Nope
18/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 This app thinks I dislike folk music. That's not really true; I just disliked what it showed me so far. However, I have very little patience for most country music (though I think Brad Paisley plays a mean guitar). Combining country music with this saccharine vocal style is enough to make me quite cross. The few points it managed to earn were from some of the short instrumental passages.
I tried, but I couldn't get into this. Definitely talented, but I'm not super into certain kinds of folky stuff and unfortunately this fell into that category.
No.
First track then I put it off, not for me....
I you look up the top 100 albums for 1986... shock horror... not a mention of this album or artist... so why does this site think this americana country shite is something I need to hear or that its worthy of the top 1001albums of all time!!! Skipped through the whole thing. Cant be arsed with it, Nothing to like.
Just not my thing at all
Awful
Not a country fan.
This aint it
Given there so few country music albums here (don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining), I do wonder what qualifies this album over the rest of them when it came to inclusion in this list here.
Nope
Not good.
no
Probably good for a country album, but not good to my ears. 1.5/5
This album is the part of country music that I don't like. It's cute, it competent, but ultimately not my taste. Listening to it was a fun insight into a part of music I've never really interacted with, but that doesn't make it a better album. Probably wouldn't listen to it again 1.5 ish
Very average country. sounds like a painfully average jewel.
Ei tää country edelleenkään uppoa. 1/5
nice folk
I’m sure it’s someone’s, but not my cup of tea.
Neejoh
no thanks.
Hairspray rock, jazz-fusion, country music. 3 albums I do not want to hear in a run. Just no.
Thanks. I hate it. 👎
Not really my style. Would be better live.
Her voice does not speak to me, nor does her music. For me, it lacks something, maybe real emotion, real feeling. I thought it would be different, for lack of a better word. Wouldn’t recommend it. Just listen to “Fly By Night”, and the job is done.
No something I would chose to listen to.
So boring!!
Would you @SHACK?
I'm sure she is loved by many, just not me.
Yeehaw
1986. Love At The Five And Dime
