Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Det finns bra Country och det finns dålig Country.

Good for expanding my music taste, enjoyed the good instrumentals. Not the biggest country and/or folk here but was a good album, based on my subjective preference, it would be a solid 6/10.✌🏻

nanci griffith has such a nice voice. liked the folksy bits, but wasnt blown away by anything in this album. keen to relisten even though 2 stars

Had to tap out after like 6 songs. I get it, it’s fine, but it’s not for me.

The whole thing just kinda puts you to sleep, doesn't it? I can't hate it too much, Nanci's voice is actually quite pleasant. It’s appalling, though, that Montreal’s first mention on this list comes in a song about how much she would rather be in the US than here. Heartbreaking.

Perfectly solid country album that is not my thing at all. Not too much variety here and it is a little too 70s soft rock for me. It felt much, much longer than it actually is.

One of the most pleasant voices but the album dragged. The range is so compact it becomes dull by song two.

Rating 2.5 Country is not really my music but the lyrics are good

Album 862 of 1089 Nanci Griffith - The Last Of The True Believers (1986) Rating : 1.5 / 5 There’s a lot of country I enjoy, but this one just isn’t it for me. It’s well done for what it is — polished, heartfelt, and I can see how it could be a great soundtrack for two-stepping at a country bar. But I don’t do that either. So, maybe for thee, but not for me. Still, I can respect the craft even if it’s not going in my personal rotation.

Just another Country album, not something that moved me.

Not my style of music. It was ok.

Not my style per se.

Seems good, but not for me

I’m not generally much of a country fan but this was just alright. I do like her voice and some of the lyrics in parts but it’s not something I’m likely to go back to. Not knowing anything about her or the context I’m struggling to see why this should be deemed essential listening?

im sure this went crazy in 86. 40 years later though? turn it off

Dit is weer een schijf waar ik moeilijk doorheen kom. Man wat duren de minuten lang zo... typisch Amerikaans geknauw van deze dame. Dit is halverwege de jaren '80 toch niet vernieuwend?

Music for nobody

Is it country? Is it proto-90's folk? Is it a throw-back to '60's western folk? I don't know. Lots of mixed sounds here. Definitely better than a lot of what passes for "country" nowadays. That said, it doesn't do much for me. I think my wife would like this though, so I'll give it a bump for that. Anything is worth it if it keeps the Mrs. happy. Another review said it's feminine country for middle aged white women to go camping, drink wine, and get a little rowdy and a little sad to, and I believe that's probably about as an accurate assessment is available for this.

Professionalismia koristeltuna tyydyttävillä hetkillä. Miksikäs ei.

Little boring, like fleetwood mac but not as good.

About the other side of the spectrum of my taste in music. Objectively it’s fine but personally it’s like listening to paint dry (2.5/5)

I was not familiar with the artist or album before it came up. I could tell from the cover this was going to be a country album. It is a country album. Nothing objectionable but for someone who doesn't normally listen to this, it is not my cup of tea and not something I would listen to again.

Meh, not my thing

Not my style

Yep, still not a massive fan of country. Lovely voice, good instruments, but an experience that just leaves me cold.

It's fine, nothing wrong with it at all. Just not my thing/would probably never put it on myself.

Really didn’t jam with it

Overall: 3/10 Sadly, this is the type of country music that I really don't enjoy. You have to have a truly special voice for me to like country and Nanci just doesn't have a voice that stands out enough for me. That's not to say I hated the entire thing though. There were some songs that caught me off guard. More Than a Whisper is a beautiful song with great instrumentation. If the whole album made me feel the way that song does then it would have been much better. Also, this album flys by very quickly which is a very good thing. Fav Song: More Than a Whisper Least Fav Song: The Last of the True Believers

Another time I wish I could give 2.5 stars. Nothing wrong with the album, just not really my taste. Felt like a more country Carole King, perfect for my mother-in-law — not so much for me. The more uptempo songs were the bigger hits for me (Album name, Fly By Night), while slower love songs always just feel a bit boring.

I really don't like country style music, so whatever the merits of this album (and from reading the Wikipedia article I guess there are), they are lost on me.

I was not a true believer

Very light and feminine(?) country. Nothing especially memorable, but pleasant to listen to

Always a pang of hope when you see the name of an artist you've never heard of before. Always a pang of disappointment when you realise it's a pretty unremarkable cookie-cutter country album.

Not a country fan and doubt this will ever change my mind.

Listened to this album on the A6 from Derry to Antrim. It was an absolutely beautiful journey, chilled out with an easy beauty around every corner. Sweeping vistas of desolate upland and some pretty farmland. The quiet majesty of the Sperrin hills followed by the impressive expanse of Lough Neagh... Oh the album's finished. It was fine.

Not a big fan of country...I mean I've heard worse and it was pleasant at times. 4/10

I don’t mind a bit of country but this is a bit too far into western for my taste I’m afraid.

It's fine. Doesn't grab me as much as some other female country stars like Emmylou Harris. Wrecking Ball better damn well be on this list.

Had not heard of this album or artist. Not my thing - too country / folksy

One day I’ll find a country album I enjoy. Not this one.

80s country. meh.

Lowkey was good for a country album. I gotta be rly in the mood to like these songs but Nanci’s vocals were amazing I just don’t like country very much. Made me feel like I was on a farm in the middle of nowhere but like it did bore me out mid way thru cuz there rly wasn’t no variation. But the last 3 songs were amazing. Favourites were Loves Found a Should and Fly By Night. 5.1/10 2.5/5

A bit generic - I struggle to pay attention for the whole time to be honest

Não que seja de todo ruim, mas acho que só não é pra mim mesmo. Toda vez que resolvo ouvir country é geralmente alguma coisa menos "pop" e sempre rola um estranhamento quando ouço algo do gênero

old school C&W with one of those clear country voices telling tales of downtrodden sad lives, for background music in cowboy bar scenes. Not my thing

Haven't heard of her before. Can't say I know a lot about country but it was a pleasant album 2/5

Eh 2/5

Not sure what the significance of this album is. Seems like a pretty generic country album. My internet search didn't turn up much either. It isn't an early album either, so i doubt that it's an influential one. It isn't entirely awful, which is probably high praise for a country album from me.

I personally don’t pick up on the appeal of this album. It’s not horribly bad, but it sits just below middle of the road mediocre for me. There’s an element in this type of country that I just find irritating. Within the first 30 seconds, I already knew I was in for a grueling 35 minutes. Either way, I’ll definitely never go back to this album.

Some good songs but I’m still not a huge country fan.

A fine but forgettable country album. The singing is good, but I find little that impacted me or made much impression of me. It’s all totally fine and good enough…I didn’t dislike it. I just wouldn’t care if I never heard or thought about it again. I don’t have many words to get into detail because it just didn’t grab my attention that way. But at least it’s a pretty classic, good sounding county as opposed to the more annoying sound of country.

Another almost country album that I cannot say I didn't enjoy a tiny bit, but it is also one of those I'll forget before lunch

I'm sorry I just can't stand country music. I'm also not really sure why this album was picked, it is pretty average for country and it seems like she only had a handful of minor hits. This album is more boring than it is unlistenable. This is also the longest 36 minute long album of all time. Low 2.

First listen. Meh.

Ok, but not for me really 2/5

Not as good as the Beatles

I’m sure it’s a good example of its genre, but it’s absolutely not for me.

Too much cowboys

I don't like most country music, and this isn't an exception. I like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, that sort of thing, but when it gets too twangy, I'm out. I'll give it two stars because it isn't objectively bad, but this just isn't something that I would listen to again, ever.

Good folk singer. Good songs, voice.

Not a preferred listen by any stretch.

This is the third new album overall but the first new artist. I had never heard of Nanci Griffith before now and unfortunately I can't say I'm much of fan. This is a passable country album, I'd even go as far as to say that this is an above-average country album. But even then it's still just kinda ok. Favorite track: More Than A Whisper

Now That's What I Call Generic and Boring Country Music.

musicsong

Any Country is a hard pass from me. Not good!

This sound is not for me.

enjoyable, nothing special

Joni Mitchell ripoff trash

hmmmm 80s country...I don't like country. Sorry Nanci I have to cut you short. Not my jam. 2 stars.

Not my speed. My mom would like it.

nothing personal nanci but you can go fuck right off.

Not my vibe.

If it wasn't November 6th 2024 this morning as I listen to this is could be a bit more objective. So while not terrible it loses a star because I feel terrible about the country/world being doomed

I still don't like country/folk, although this was sweet. Rating: 2

Plage meg at ho uttale St. Olavs gate på engelsk

I'm not a big fan of country, therefore, I'm not a fan of this. Not that it was bad, I'm just a hater.

Ich werde mit Country nicht warm und auch nicht mit dieser Pop-Variante.

It's fine, nothing really stuck out to me about this album

Nancy has a great voice and she knows how to use it, but the music is, you know, way country. I'd prefer her more folk iterations.

194 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑

Another one where I am not sure what I am getting in to, but I am not using a private spotify session. A bold move, I know. Country, country fried country. I respect it for what it is, not for me.

"Why yes, I think I WILL purchase some of your scented candles, soaps and potpourri packets."

Some decent songs, but I'm not feeling the arrangements at all.

I believe this album is not for me.

Another Country & Western album.

One of the most celebrated singer/songwriters of her generation. ai onko... onko? ONKO?????????? PUHUTKO TOTUUTTA???????????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! 80 luku kantri ei ole edes sitä vanhanajan herttaisuutta joka pelastaisi tämän. incredibly saccharine..... vähän liian sakkariinia meikäpokolle..... 1986 the day the music died......... daddys little grrl singsongin'.. proud of you.... proud...... crazy kidz...... SAKKARIINIPASKAA. banks of the pontchartrain

See you tomorrow

Mellow, sweet singer-songwriter country. Too boring and monotonous for me, but at least not annoying.

No problem listening to it, but not my kind of music and will instantly be forgotten.

The album is fine. however, nothing wowed me and it won't be getting a second listen!

Nice voice but music is a bit shit

Forgettable soft country

Hooray! It ended!

No está mal

Very country sounding not my style

Wow, that was dreary. I didn’t really listen to the lyrics much, but I got the strong impression I was meant to cry more than I actually did. (Random side note. It also struck me that this album didn’t sound like it came from the mid 80s. Was country music immune to the general awfulness of that era?)

Country…nothing special

Didn’t like this one very much, my country phase seems to be over.

Not for me, too winey and country

Not the worst country, but still absolutely terrible. At least this was a quick listen/skip. 1.5*

Beautifully bad, unequivocally boring. Too American for my uneducated ears.

Who? A US country artist that didn't make it across the pond. Quite pleasant for country music, but ultimately boring.

Country really isn't my thing.

I didn’t mind it - I’m on my country journey - but it didn’t land as much as other albums. Still a nice time though.

She has a lovely voice, but I already don't like country very much, and this was incredibly generic.

Easy to listen to. Nice hippy vibes.

Didn’t like the country but it could’ve grown on me but sadly it didn’t.

Sincere and heartening music, just not my style at all. Could almost hear the vocals fitting in in Irish/Nova Scotian music, but the twangy guitar and strings are undeniably American Country.

I kind of liked 'Lookin' for the Time (Workin' Girl)' but this was mostly forgettable country that sounds like someone's mom's favorite album.

Not too great of an album, but there are moments when the singer sounds just like Stevie Nicks which is nice.

Not for this list

Yeah, this was one of the country albums I have ever listened to.

It was a bit like cowbells in the distance on a Swiss hillside. Pleasant enough but makes no impact to my life. Really like the cover though. Makes me nostalgic for the now obsolete Woolworth’s.

Not a bad country album. She has a wonderful voice and I enjoy the production and full band, but just a little too vanilla.

A good country song can be...maybe even should be simple. Its about texture mostly. That being said, a good country song ought to have 1 or 2 interesting, clever, or innovative melodic ideas, lyrical ideas, rhythmic ideas, or some combination. I cant do it on elegance and prettiness alone. Alls that to say I didnt hate this one. But only two songs in the 35 min runtime are anything that I think fit that criteria. Ive heard other NG songs that I like...but they arent on this here record. Faves: the title track and Fly By Night Meh: the rest

Not terrible, but not a Genre for me

Country-folk de altura en la voz dulce y cristalina de Nanci Griffith destacando el tema que abre y da nombre al disco, "The Last of the True Believers", "el último de los verdaderos creyentes". También me gusta la irónica canción de amor "Looking for the Time (Workin' Girl)".

It's not my thing but I don't think it's objectively bad like most country is. She has a good voice and when it pushes more into folk territory I start to enjoy myself more. I just wish the lyrics were less cliche.

Boring.

Your average contemporary country album no one asked for.

meh Amusing note that the album is top 1001 but the plays on youtube are sub 1million, and some sub 10k

She has a good voice but I can't say much positive about this album because I've found it just not interesting enough, it's just boring and bland.

If I were to walk into a bar in Nashville and she was singing, it would be an awesome night....otherwise this music style just does not fit in my listening life.

The Last of the True Believers is the fourth album by American singer-songwriter Nanci Griffith. This is a country album that performed a lot better critically than her previous album - which was her first to transition away from folk to country. It was nominated for a few awards but didn't win them, and the album never charted either. This is a collection of classic country tunes from famous Nanci Griffth. Although I'm no big country music fan, this was a fun album to listen to and I think there's others who will enjoy it too.

Kantri albumi joka haluaa sinun PÄÄSI.. Ja varmaan joudut antamaan sen jos kantri likeille olet herkkä.. tulet menemään SEKAISIN tämän albumi tunnekuohusta.. heh..

this didn’t grab me but it didn’t piss me off or anything

oh god, tiring

I audibly sighed after the first vocal twang. Her voice is incredible but country remains squarely not for me.

New album for me. A couple of good songs and a great album cover, but the majority of this album is competent yet rather unremarkable country music, and I would not listen to the album again.

Kuuntelin yhen biisin samalta artistilta. Sydämen asialla tunnari 🤌🏼 Oli ihan kiva kyllä, 3/5, en tunnistanut sydämen asialla biisiä vaikka faija on sarjaa katsonutkin, O. Eka biisi oli tarttuva, meni listoille. 2/5

Blind album and artist. There are better folk/country singers. This was slow, at times, uninteresting, and makes me sleepy in a bad way.

Country tenyit de folk, amb una veu colpidora i bones melodies. Agradable de sentir, poca cosa més

For a country album, it was pretty good

A bit whingy.

Not my style.

A fine country/folk album. Great vocals and some nice songwriting, but the albums as a whole didn’t do much for me. Felt a little bland and lifeless at times.

2/5 Very non interesting country music

A folk writer does country. Decent singing, decently strong writing, some varied instrumentation. 80s production gives it a spacious feel. But it's boring and songs repeat themselves without evolving much. Instruments often feel like they're ornamenting her singing, but end up forced and flat, and the writing is not as engaging, losing my interest. Several tracks have stuff going for them, especially in the first half. But the vast majority are quite forgettable and only for fans of this type of music and in the mood. Favorites: Love at the Five & Dime, More Than a Whisper

This seems like competent small-town country music storytelling, but after track 2 I found myself losing interest pretty quickly. Seeing Woolworth's front and centre of the generator website was a nice and unexpected dose of nostalgia though.

Blehh, country is so god damn boring and annoying. No more please... Obviously some country is good, but this album is nothing to me. I was just waiting for it to be over. My favourite song was The Last of the True Believers, I guess.

Nice enough Country singer songwriter fare. Didn't grab me. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Love At The Five & Dime Date listened: 13/11/23

Country meh

канннтри нет

Pretty generic C&W. 2.5 stars.

It's nice, but really faded into background noise for me. Clearly a good songwriter and lyricist, but just in such a trad vein that it didn't give me much to care about.

listened over breakfast at parents in Cumming. nice easy folk/country listening, but nothing special. 2.4/5

I don’t like country

Country is not my thing

2/5 naaah, too calmy

I can see why people like this album, I It wasn’t a bad album, just not my type of music. I like folk and blue grass, but this was a little too country for my tastes.

- definitely not my genre - at least relaxed - pretty monotonous maybe a 2/5 for me

1980s Taylor Swift with a country vibe. Very lovey lovey- but not my cup of tea.

Classic country. A bit too naive

Perfectly pleasant I guess, listened to on a run round Kenilworth and it accompanied quite well. But I found it samey and it left little impression on me

Not my style.

Not too country for me. Singing is clear, but just not my taste.

Inoffensive and unmemorable country pop. It was decent enough but not my thing at all, the only highlight for me was Goin Gone

I never heard of Nancy Griffiths or this album before - Not great, but not terrible either. Its nice for like one listen, but nothing sticks and its kinda monotone. That said, Nancy has a good voice, but the album as a whole is a 2. 2/5

Best Song: One Of These Days. Something about the simplicity of the storytelling worked best in this one. Worst Song: Love At The Five & Dime. Budget Dolly Parton singing cliches. Overall: It's not unpleasant but it's also not for me. Relatively one-note. I felt like I'd heard the general gist of the album after the first few songs.

Nogal eenzijdig. Wel mooie stem

Ehh, it was average.

Putting it simply... I don't think this album belongs on the list.

Folky stuff, a bit too bland for my liking.

A pleasant listen, but so unmemorable it left my brain by the time I was 30 minutes out from the last track.

I think I just wasn't in the mood for country music today

Me: *looks at the genre* The genre: country folk Me: *sighs* oh boy *makes the sign of the cross*

Generic country warbling shite

BL: this is another bond listen. Never heard of Nanci Griffith because I’m not a massive country head. We’ll see what I think AL: the album wasn’t bad it just felt incredibly one note. Most of the songs sounded the same, and nothing massively stood out to me. This more reflects that I have an implicit bias towards country but I’m trying my best to work through it. It’s definitely good for easy listening but not for much else. FT: “love at the five and dime 2/5

Just some female-fronted radio friendly country music. Not sure what the justification is for considering this a must-hear album before you die. It's not painful to listen to, but I could very well have died without hearing it.

Serviceable.

The small southern town vibes just create a feeling of being trapped for some reason. Nanci Griffith does have a beautiful voice, though.

Bland, not sure what this offers compared to say Dolly Parton

Pretty good but not standout to my taste

Another country album

Another one that just ain't my thing! In this case, I didn't really find a ton that got me over my general aversion to the genre past some nice turns of phrase and harmonies. Won't be revisiting but if it's your thing I'm sure it's a good version! Rad album cover. Two and a half. Fave track: Fly By Night

At long last a record by a woman - I can’t say I actually connected all that much with this one. Some alright country sounds but nothing all that special. And some cute lyrical storytelling but a bit too syrupy for me. Two and a half stars for this one - hopefully some more albums to come that break the pattern of men with guitars. Favourite track was Fly By Night.

Extremely average, generic-sounding country. Unsure between 1 or 2 stars.

Is this the chick that tried to steal Homer away from Marge? It's worth it to read up on Woolworth's and Five & Dime while listening to this to give it some grounding, as the music on it's own isn't that interesting. https://la.eater.com/2018/4/11/17225594/woolworth-bakersfield-luncheonette-history-antique-mall-open Two artery clogging cheeseburgers out of five. Mmmm... cheeeeeseeebuuuurgeerrr... agghhh... 🍔🍔

Easy listening country, but not really anything standing out. Gets boring after some songs

They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that seems like a really dumb rule when you can pick an album like this down to the finest detail just by looking at it. As the cover suggests, it's folky country americana nonsense. Sooooo fuckin' twangy. By about halfway through I was really hitting my limit for it. Gotta give it credit for being unapologetically itself, but ahh... it's a 2/5.

Not unlistenable.

Meh, aika kädenlämpöiseksi jäi. Working girl ihan hauska biisi, muuten ei kovinkaan kiinnostavaa. 2/5.

Pretty sure I don't like country, this didn't prove me wrong.

Demasiado country para mí gusto personal, no entiendo porque es uno de los mejores porque para mí suena todo como la misma canción típica de country, no por desmerecer, solo mí opinión desde el desconocimiento del género y escuchar el álbum por primera vez

Nope - do not see what is special about this album

Inoffensive but a bit dull.

A fine MOR country album. Nicely played, every song seems to be about prostitution. While not actively bad, nothing about this album particularly held my attention.

She has a nice voice but these songs were highly annoying. It’s probably because I am not American, but this kind of Americana folk is so grating.

Not really a twang fan

I'm not a true believer in country music. I find it generally ultra basic harmonically, plodding basslines vamping to simple drums and twangy guitars. And songs about missing dogs. Occasionally some annoying fiddler's fiddling too. I didn't pick up any missing dog references in this album, but ticked all the other boxes.

A little too country

Before I even listen I have to say...Mom sewed me that same dress for a middle school orchestra concert. I also had one of the same pattern in a turquoise and pink flower print. Anyway... I got annoyed about halfway through. Objectively great, I just don't like country. Maybe I would enjoy her earlier, folksier stuff? I sure want to.

Nice but not my thing.

This all sounded the same to me. I'm not a country fan so maybe that is an issue. But this also didn't change my opinion about country music.

Ok country album. Couldn't get into it but listened through the whole thing.

country

The Last Of The True Believers is a meandering country-style album that doesn't offend but doesn't impress. 2.

Sounds quite pretty, but it's pretty bland and doesn't evoke much emotion. A 36 minute album shouldn't drag, but this one did. 2/5.

I don't like country, and I'll never listen to this again, but it was easy enough to have on in the background.

It was ok... I BEAT P5

Spotify reactivated autoplay without permission, and it took me a solid hour to notice the album was done with.

Not the worst example of a pretty unappealing (to me) genre.

Trevligt & lite tråkigt

Folk uit de jaren tachtig. Het moet niet gekker worden. Maar niet voor mij.

Kom op zeg, is dit ineens veranderd in 'de 1001 COUNTRY albums generator'?

A smooth county folk vibe that has echos of future acts like The Chicks. The stories are sweet, and the harmonies are warm.

Talented artist but not my thing. Better than some of the other records we’ve listened too so far

Who? There are so many better country music female vocalists we could be celebrating on this list.

she had a very nice voice and i liked one of the songs but this kind of country music reminds me of very early childhood which is kind of triggering

Lets go med country, følsomt, melankolsk, stille og roligt

Not bad, but stylistically just not my thing.

Didnt finish but not for me. Also not bad music

Standouts: Love at the Five and Dime The album seems fine. Never heard of her before and I've listened to Country music from time-to-time throughout my 55 years... 2.5

This just irritates me. I put on some beach boys to clean out my ears.

Malo mi je falilo neke inspiracije u albumu. Ima taj yeehaw šarm al nema jos nest uz to

I guess i should return to this one at some point. It was fine, but I didn't pick up on what makes it exceptional or noteworthy.

She would have a pretty voice, but it's a little too trilly and thin. The tunes themselves are pleasant but not particularly memorable.

Expertly played, but corny as a corn dog.

Country. Inte bra men inte vedervärdigt

Made Shannah sad. (2/5) Bill says she got better. (2.5/5) Conor thought it was ok. (2.5/5) (2.3/5)

It's a very country & western sound with some folky influences. With the flutes, violin, slide guitar, banjo it has quite a slick Americana sound. The songwriting certainly isn't bad, but this really isn't for me. It's foundation is too much of the twangy country sound.

Hi- Goin' Gone, Fly By Night I didn't like country before I listened, but while this is DEFINITELY Country, it is not unpleasant, reminds me of Karen Carpenter, Joni Mitchell, and Natalie Merchant, with a country twang.

First time hear the album. Heard the name before. Of course, I knew Goin' Gone before hearing the rest of the album, but that was it. The album is good. Not a lot really stood out as amazing, but on the whole, it was a good listen and enjoyable. Other songs: The Last of the True Believers. Love at the Five and Dime. I think with more listens this album will get stronger. 2.5/5

Politely & with all respect, no thanks

Country, 45 eme album =>1/5 Très mauvais week-end cette semaine ...

Not really my cup of tea. I couldn't get into this one.

not even trying to be a ‘i listen to everything but country’ guy but i dont like country music

I just can’t with country music.

Real bad.

County fair bandstand filler. Awful.

this was pretty boring

Nope. Simply not for me, sorry, nope :-(

I'm probably not American enough to fully appreciate this. It belongs to a subculture I know little about, can't relate to and don't really care for. Nanci Griffith has a very nice voice and I'm sure she's good in her own field, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't get into slow country. This was almost painful to listen for me, it's so sickly sweet that it gives me heartburns. I had to fraction it into smaller bites to finish it. 2/10

Nice voice, 2 sweet songs. That’s about all.

Awful cliché country pop music with awful cliché lyrics.

Muy country para mi gusto

The last of the music I would want to listen to. If you asked me to judge one of these songs in isolation, I would likely say: “This song is fine, but I’m glad it will end and that other, completely different songs will play in the sonic space it occupied, for which it barely earned its welcome.” That’s how I usually talk at parties. But together? How many songs do you want me to listen to with instruments that sound like they’re made of used tin cans? And backing harmonies featuring the bus driver from the Simpsons? Nah.

Nah that’s not for me

🤨 what are we doing here

i don't like country

An agonizingly generic effort that epitomizes the stagnation of the country-folk genre. Despite a "clean" production, the album offers zero technical challenge, relying on rudimentary song structures and uninspired lyrical themes. For a listener seeking complexity, dynamic range, or sonic innovation, this record is a hollow experience, proving that a polished mix cannot compensate for a total lack of artistic depth

This album has a single song with over a million streams on Spotify. All other songs are under 600k streams. Not sure how it can be influential when no one wants to listen? And after listening to it yesterday I don't think I will ever listen again either.

I see a lot of people complaining about albums they hate from this project on reddit and the answer is always "the whole point of doing this is expose yourself to new music! Be open-minded!" Well, I have been very open-minded and have discovered lots of new music that I've enjoyed, even loved. That's all to say that this album sucked so bad. I want those 36 minutes back.

I hate Country & Western

I will forget about this one Will I listen to again: 0%

I really can’t get away with the country music. The female singer is definitely a lot nicer to listen to if it’s country that’s on, that’s for sure. I think the album cover is really cool, it’s raw & unique. I promise I try to get into these it’s just something that isn’t for me I’m afraid, I’m sure it’s someone’s somewhere favourite album, but it’s just something I can’t get into. That being said, she has a nice voice. Favourite tracks are: ‘More Than A Whisper’.

Not my style—at all. ★

Listen, the good news is the album is a merciful 36 minutes long. The bad news is it seems you have failed to listen to 1001 albums in time, have died, and gone to music hell.

This album did nothing for me. There wasn’t a song that stood out from the rest. The whole album sounds so homogenous and boring. I know that country music tends to be that way. But you can get more variety out of the sound if you take some bold risks. But this album does not do that. I listened to it in its entirety 2 times and I still didn’t save any tracks.

Yee Haw (Derogatory)

Yanks love to moan in the comment section about there being too many British bands but we have to listen to album after album of the most homogeneous twee shite recorded.

Really, why was this album chosen to be on here? I don't really like country in general, but this is not even a good country album. The voice is too nasal for my liking and the songs are very unremarkable. It was short, but still too long. 1/5

Inside that Woolworths store on the cover of this album, are generic plain wrap items. This album would be a plain wrap album labeled generic country music. No buyer would be disappointed. Unless you don't like generic country music. Thus the star

1 star i just generally enjoy heavier sound and also thus genre ain't for me ig

Barf. Nope. Nice voice, but so generic. I'll say deserving of a 1.

All the country music is dragging my average down, but country music is an abomination and this album is no different.

Did nothing for me. The album felt like a generic slice of country-folk, with predictable melodies, overly sentimental lyrics, and a sound that never strayed from safe territory. Griffith’s voice, while technically fine, lacked emotional depth or grit. The production was polished to the point of blandness, and none of the songs stood out or made me feel anything. If this is considered a classic, it only reinforces why I don’t connect with country music.

This sucks big time

simplemente no es lo mío 1/5

Reeeeeally very uninterested.

Nope... Not liking that Folk

nope, couldn't finish

not really into country so it is a miss for me however the songwriting is quality

And I thought I kinda liked her. Total shite!

Not for me.

Going into this album, I had never heard of The Last of the True Believers or Nanci Griffith, so I approached it with an open mind and no expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t resonate with me. The album leans heavily into whimsical, folk-inspired melodies, paired with a generally upbeat tone and optimistic lyrics. While I can appreciate the craftsmanship and charm that others might enjoy, it simply wasn’t to my taste. Favourite track: I couldn’t single one out. Least favourite: The entire album didn’t connect with me personally. Album artwork: The cover is nicely done—pleasant and fitting for the genre. In the end, while this album clearly has a warm spirit and strong folk roots, it's just not my style.

I am just glad it is over

I tried. I really tried.

I do NOT like this kinda music

it's country. what can i say

No, thanks.

It's country. What else can I say? Yikes.

I can't stand male country singers, am I supposed to like female singers? Nope, nope, nope! Just sweet, wimpy crap. Hey, and listen to this too; country singers' voices sound really similar. Nanci Griffith, never heard of her and I won't listen to her either. I skipped through the record and that's it. Yes, you can find something like that at Woolworth's. As far as I can remember, it was a junk shop here in Germany, and "The Last True Believer" definitely belongs there.

Yeah… it’s really not for me. This is the type of country I do not like

This list has turned my ambivalence about country into active dislike. Great, thanks a lot for that.

I hated the first 5 seconds instantly. Blooming country music. After ten minutes every song is blurring into the previous one. Listening to the lyrics is like being stuck on the seat behind some loud teenage girl on public transport.

Not my thing

Utterly forgettable country songs. Belee Dat.
