Reviews (page 10 of 13)
This is 80 minutes, and it is a lot of jamming. I got pretty bored. 3/5
Het wordt een beetje veel en duurt allemaal wel lang maar zo als achtergrondmuziekje kon ik het best hebben.
Good album even in the mood.
This mostly isn't my music but damned if that epic version whipping post didn't astonish me.
Fun bluesey jam marathons - some insane guitar chops, especially for a live album. Not sure I'll listen again though
Very interesting album. It was my first experience with The Allman Brothers Band. I think that the lack of previous knowledge about this group bring the enjoyment down couple levels. This is the last Live album with the original lineup, also with a different arrangement to songs than on studio albums. I can understand the appeal to this record by fans of the band, but for neutral fans, like myself, this album was just a nice listen, but nothing more than that. Probably won't reach for this album anytime soon.
I misremembered again - I had listened to this album fully before several times *and* enjoyed the latter half (tracks 5-7). I've never cared much for the first half and its boogie rhythms, which almost always sound too static, sluggish and predictable. The latter half, on the other hand, is much more to my liking - jam rock music that's not quite jazz (at least harmonically) but not blues either (I have to be in a specific mood for endless blues rock guitar solos of the late 60's to early 70's). It's closer to some of Santana's music (which is what I like even more). Even though the songs are technically longer in the latter half, because they are much more volatile and constantly in flux, they remain engaging throughout, even transporting. It's the kind of music you can get lost in and come out at the other end feeling satisfied and smiling.
One good song in the middle
It's an easy listen, listen to it while doing other things. I can't really say what song is my favorite since they all kind of blend together but they are jamming for sure.
Statesboro tem um riff no começo bem legal. Músicas para WCS
I love the blues and I've never given the Allman Brothers much of a listen beyond the standards. Sweet Melissa being my favorite. This Album was good, It would have been great to see them live but man, jam sessions are exhausting.
Really groovy, great guitar work, a little long for my personal tastes though
Not the biggest fan of jam bands, but there were some good grooves and I understand why people enjoy it so much.
Excellent Live Album. Felt like I was at the show, and liked the overall vibes. Probably can't remember specific songs but doesn't really matter all that much.
Some standout moments, however overall a bit too much guitar wankery at points that kinda loses its momentum.
I should probably like this more than I did - but just seemed like background. Never once engaged me on a conscious level.
Fantastic musicianship. Enjoyed the jazzy elements in some of the jams. Will come back to a few tracks on here for sure. Can't see myself re visiting the whole thing.
It is an hour and twenty jam session. None of the songs sounded familiar and I couldn't tell you that you need to listen to a particular song. The album is just alright.
i hate jam
Ágætis blúsrokk. Væri alveg til í svona tónleika, sitja við borð úti í horni með góðan drykk í glasi og dilla höfðinu í takt við tónlistina.
Not a band I'd ever really listened to before, but yeah, this sounds good on first listen. I am inclined to add it to my playlist and investigate more of their stuff.
Enjoyable guitar based live album. My Allman Brothers knowledge previous to listening to this was just of the classic track “Jessica”. Fav track on this love album was the great closer Whipping Post. Overall I find constant soloing less interesting than dynamic song structures, but impressive playing nonetheless. Won’t be returning for many repeat listens. 2 1/2 stars
Ehhh…I wanted to like this because I dig this type of music in principle, but the prolonged jamming doesn’t do it for me. The whole thing really dragged for me, and I started to lose my patience. This album is probably something that is better enjoyed live. Technically-speaking however, it’s a great album.
Texhnically good, but i cant concentrate on so much guitar for so long.
Честно говоря, кроме последнего трека и трека посередине альбом не запомнился, но понял, что ребята очень талантливые.
Genre: Blues Rock 3/5 As much talent as The Allman Brothers Band clearly possesses, and as much fun as they're clearly having throughout these live performances, this one turned into one big, long guitar bend for me. At Fillmore East is a decent live album, but this is noodling at its most obvious. Again, there's plenty of talent necessary to keep up a 22-minute long blues jam, but if I'm not there to appreciate the performance with my eyeballs as well as my ears, then I'm just listening to some guys play music. I've never been a big "jam band" guy, and this album did little to persuade me otherwise. Duane Allman can play, and he can play lots of notes, and he can string them all together for quite some time, and boy does it feel neverending sometimes. On the longer tracks here, with each solo we're gifted with 10+ minutes of improv that feel very long, and don't do all that much in terms of interesting, or experimental, tones and shifts. This is a dude who has played blues guitar for years, mastered the craft to a high degree, and can lick his way through basic chord progressions until his fingertips bleed. The passion is felt, but I couldn't really get into these longwinded jams as much as I'm sure others can.
Incredible jams
Whipping post is a 4.5 on its own
Listened to this album yesterday. What a coincidence! Particularly enjoyed the one-two punch of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post" at the end. Brothers at their best. Will give the first half another listen today.
Really good
Do you like pasta? If so, you might enjoy all the noodling here.
Really good.
I really like the groove of the songs.
Great one!
Enjoyable but nothing would drag me back.
Highly enjoyable and great rhythm though out. Could easily give a 4 but just don't think it's got the appeal for regular listening.
Great blue country rock album or is it country blues rock or rock blues country?
Whipping Post ended like 5 times.
Long. But good. 3/5
This is a nice live album. Very good recording. A great album for a summer barbeque.
This should be a good time! Oof. Might have been great if you were there. But its a bit jammy for a home based listen. Good, great in parts, but not wonderful as an album.
Some absolutely brilliant bibs (Statesboro Blues) early on in the set, but getting slowly off peak towards the back end, which was a shame - 5 stars for the first half, 2 stars for the second half
C'est pas dur le Blues: Tu t'mets dans un champ, tu cries. Pref: In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Moins pref: Whipping Post (deuxième moitié)
3.5
Enjoyed this one, but i will say the longer ones got a bit boring by the end.
I mean look, these guys are very good at what they do. But Statesboro Blues was the only song I had a passing familiarity of and even that one was pretty noodly. I hung with it for a few songs, but it fell into the background never to return.
I really like this overall, but it's without question a lot to take in. I'm not at all prone to enjoy extended jams, but there's a moment in one of those 20 minute songs where they transition into the main melody of "Joy to the World," and - just for a second there - I was like, "Oh wow. That was nice. Maybe this is what people get out of the whole jam band experience?" Who knows? I'm not gonna invest too much (or any) energy to really find out. Anyway, some solid classic tunes throughout and really stellar guitar work. But absolutely something you gotta be in the mood for. And to play catch up, I will take this hands down over that Drive By Truckers record. My brother gave me that on CD years ago when it was first garnering praise, but I just can't with that one dude's voice. You know who I'm talking about. The main singer and the one who says Neil Young's name the most. I'll allow that there's something cool about a southern set concept album of sorts and I like the music well enough. But give me a different singer and different lyrics or I'm out. Emerson Lake & Palmer. I didn't mind, didn't love. Scratches an itch for me that's in the same wheelhouse as classic Yes, but not nearly as satisfying. To be fair, very little is in this space! Is it possible we'll get some Skynyrd, Alabama, and the Oak Ridge Boys this week?? Let's keep that Southern Rock thang going until we get some Mountain, please.
Feels like it has a heavy Jimi Hendrix influence which I guess isn't a bad thing and as live albums go this is actually OK.
Hard to know how to rate this - they are good musicians but this album is more jamming than actual songs.
langweilig, weiß mit pferden
Not bad! Better than I was expecting
Easy listenin'. The album plays like you're sitting in a jam session with the band since the songs kind of just goooooo. Overall pretty cool, but nothing crazy. 5/10
I accidently clicked on some super deluxe version which goes for 6 hours and five minutes but luckily found the original 78 minute version. Even on the original version, the songs go forever but nice guitars. I think I would have liked this a teenager.
This album sounds like the lead-up to a BIG hangover.
Blues, lembra Elvis
ja weer tof maar niets speciaal
Another live album which I agree makes a good case for having live albums included in the list. Yet at the same time I never manage to sit this album out in one go - a bit too much blues and too little rock for me.
Live album. Pretty decent blues rock, but I found the endless guitar solos and improvisations rather tedious.
Was expecting this to be lame but it was kinda dope
ihan ok meininki ja kitarajamittelua jota jakso jopa kuunnellakki.
Huh, mitä jamittelua, nautin. Jos tästä ois leikannu 45 min levyn parhailla biiseillä, ois 4/5. Nyt auttamatta vähän liikaa samaa.
kunnon tiluttelua. Hot 'Lanta ainakin hyvää jamikamaa.
I like some of Allman Brothers' work -- 'Blue Sky' is a great song - but overall, I don't ever listen to them. I get how strange it is for someone like me who listens to a ton of live recordings from Dead shows not to be into the Allmans, but I'm just not. I get bored.
Not for me but good
Loved it. Clearly some talented musos on display here. Esp considering it's a live recording.
Quite chilled background and some great drum/guitar riffs
Mildly entertaining, but it does drag on a bit.
I woke up this morning, I had them Allman Brother Blues I woke up this morning, I had them long guitar solo blues Well, I played this album, baby And it seemed to have them too
It was pleasant, wasnt really into it
Too generic
Good jammin' Highlight Tracks: The short ones
3 Stars. I want to like this more than I do. Great if you are in the mood for some southern blues rock, but not my favorite. Sounds great though - can hardly tell that it's live.
Southern rock classic. Whipping Post is incredible. 7/10
Just not really my thing
Decent, enjoyable. Bluesy rock. 19 minute songs ain't never gonna be my bag though but still a solid 3.
Average album
they're great guitarists, and they get incredible sound from them. i've liked a lot of their stuff, and whipping post is on that list, for sure. and seriously, that gentle fuzz on the guitars is just soothing to hear. but this album just missed me. i quite liked stormy monday, and sure, it's fun to hear them rock out on the last 2 tracks, but overall, this just didn't grab me - which is a shame, because i always kinda thought if i just sat down and gave them a serious listen, i'd really love these guys. maybe it'll happen on another album.
If it helps, imagine they're playing at your college campus. Now that would be impressive. Allman Brothers is known for their hits "Midnight Rider" and "Ramblin Man," although "Jessica" is just as amazing (I blame it being a long instrumental). They're a jam band appealing to hippies all over the country, and this album is the equivalent of Grateful Dead's Live/Dead... except less folk and a lot more blues. In fact, they were both filmed in Bill Graham's venues, just on opposite corners of the country. The album starts off a little weak, but this might just be getting people comfortable while others are still coming in. It is a live performance after all. Second track has some nice instrumentals here and there. Third track is mellow and helps compliments surrounding tracks. Instruments start to get real crazy with "You Don't Love Me," and that energy to carried to the very end. "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" is a jazzy piece that starts mellow but really picks up about a third in. Love it. And then finally there's the best track: "Whipping Post." For a live album, it's really good. I'd love to see them perform live. It's the improv that keeps each performance new and exciting. But the lengths do not translate well when it's just your ears and a computer. Maybe if you saw an accompanying video it would help. But it's not just that. None of them really hold up in a studio album standard. The songwriting is poor, the vocals only work well in "Whipping Post," and it's the crazy improv instruments that people are engaging for. There are things I can point out that I like about each of the tracks. But again, besides "Whipping Post," I can't say any of them are spectacular standalone pieces. Only in the context of a jam.
A great display of skill, but far too long. This feels like an album for fans only. Whipping Post made me uncomfortable.
Allman Brothers are clearly talented, but long guitar-jams typically don't do much for me. Which is sort of odd, since long Jazz performances of synthesizer instrumentals can be interesting to me, it might just be there's only so much guitar wankery I can take. However, I was listening to this while working and I did not mind it as background music.
sounds like a really good jam sesh that i'm not emotionally invested in
Enjoyed this alot more than i thought i wouldsome high some lows but kept my interest throughout
Jazz rock. Good, but not quite the style of music that I like most.
Nothing says Allman Brothers like crunchy nuts. This played much dirtier than I thought it might, but then I realized I was thinking of the Smother's Brothers. Turns out there's a few 'brothers' bands and they don't at all resemble each other. Dust Brothers Avett Brothers Brothers McMullen Righteous Brothers Wright Brothers Isley Brothers Boner Brothers Flying Burrito Brothers Jungle Brothes Big Brother
There’s a lot I like on this album. I like the songs. I even like most of the jamming believe it or not, but it gets out of control near the end of the album.
6/10 fav track: in memory of Elizabeth reed
Ehh. The instrumentals got pretty overwhelming and started to sounds bad after about 10 minutes of each long song. But the boys with vocals were nice. 6
Het is meer een soort achtergrond muziek
I listened to this back in the day. If you went to a party and they had this album it elevated the party's cool status. Back then I didn't fully appreciate how great Greg Allman was at playing guitar. He is up there among the best. The harp on Done Somebody Wrong is stellar; just slightly better than Dylan's harp playing, lol. Brother D also throws in some excellent organ. The sub 10 minute songs are great. The album would be so much better if the two long songs were shortened substantially. The guitar playing in You Don't Love Me that is truly solo - ie playing when no other instruments are present- is as boring as drum solos are. Whipping Post is such a great song. This version is amazing for the first 10 min but the next 12 minutes are painful. If this were a single album with both the big boys limited to 10 minutes each it would be a 5.
I've always had a bee in my bonnet about this album. I had purchased and played to death their 1969 debut album, but whenever I've read AB reviews, that album is always considered an hors d'eurves for this one, which I had heard and didn't like as much, due to the jams that take up entire album sides, which I guess was the thing to do in 1971. So listening again, more closely 50 years later, the blues covers are great, the guitar playing is great and Duane Allman has got one of the best blues growls of all time. I deduct points because they were good song-writers and there's not much original material here, since half the tracks are covers, and while I like the originals, the 2 signature tunes showed up on their LPs a year or two earlier and I didn't need a 23 minute version of Whipping Post.
I’m not a huge fan of blues, but when combined with rock like this its much more accessible to me. This must have been a legendary concert to see live with those long guitar jam sessions but when listening to it at low volume at home while reading the Saturday paper I think most of it got lost in translation. I’m sure this is a you had to be there situation.
it was ok
Very bluesy. Always cool to hear a live album and great performances.
dirty, bluesy, live, but somehow crisp. nice lazy arvo soundtrack
I'm really not a fan of Live albums
1971: You Don't Love Me
Easy listening
Solos de guitarra ao vivo impressionantes
legal
Me gustan los Allman Brothers, pero demasiada música instrumental.
Classic boomer music
Great if you like blues jams.
"At Fillmore East" is the first live album by American rock band the Allman Brothers Band. This album was released in July 1971 (a mere 3 months before the tragic motorcycle death of brother rocker Duane Allman) and falls under the following genres: blues, rock, country, and jazz. This jam album is 76 minutes long (that's two albums!) and features the following track list: Statesboro Blues Done Somebody Wrong Stormy Monday You Don't Love Me Hot 'Lanta In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Whipping Post "Statesboro Blues" opens up this jam fest with a cheering audience and a rockin' fun guitar. I see pool halls filled with cigarette smoke and I can smell the scent of tepid Budweiser on tap when I hear this song. It's fun, jammy, and unapologetically Americana. Track 2 is "Done Somebody Wrong," and features more of the beloved Americana rockin' tunage. Per Wikipedia: Thom Doucette takes a solo on blues harp, and by the end of the song, the band breaks out of the shuffle and builds up to a dual-lead guitar, triplet-based crescendo on this track. It's rockin'! "Stormy Monday" is next up on this album. This song was written by American blues electric guitar pioneer T-Bone Walker in 1948. The Allman Brothers make this song their own, with their strong guitar work and bluesy/rocky style. The next track, "You Don't Love Me," is 19 minutes long and is a cover of a 1960 release from Willie Cobbs, which was adapted from Bo Diddley's 1955 song "She's Fine She's Mine." Per Wikipedia: Duane Allman chose "You Don't Love Me" to create a special tribute to recently slain R&B saxophonist King Curtis, interweaving Curtis' signature "Soul Serenade" into a rendition of the song played at a band show at the Academy of Music in Manhattan on August 15, 1971. This track is fun and rockin' and makes me want to go for a long drive down a country road. "Hot 'Lanta," is the next track on this live album. It's a 5-minute instrumental piece that contains elements of progressive rock, jazz, and blues. It's full of energy, with heavy guitar, drum, bass, organ, and timpani [kettle drum]. It has a wonderful crescendo buildup near the end of the song. "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" comes next. This track is another instrumental track with co-writing credits to the Allman Brothers' backup guitarist Dickey Betts. Betts named it after a headstone he saw in Rose Hill Cemetery in the band's hometown of Macon, Georgia. The song is smooth and jazzy with cool guitar work throughout. There's a segment at 2 minutes and 40 seconds that reminds me of the Wii Shop Channel, and I'm not sure why that is. It reappears at 12:30. "Whipping Post," is the final track on this live album, and at 22 minutes and 40 seconds, it's undeniably the longest. This song launched the brothers into the airwaves, as it was a popular track to play to ensure DJs had ample bathroom time. Per wikipedia: ...as The Rolling Stone Record Guide wrote in 1979, "no wasted notes, no pointless jams, no half-realized vocals--everything counts." And per VH1, "an endless climb of heightening drama staked out by the twin-guitar exorcisms of Duane and Dickey Betts and the cool, measured, almost jazz-like response of the rhythm section." This track truly has a life/energy of its own. I enjoyed listening to this album, despite its length. It serves as great background noise for work, and allows the listener to periodically daydream about summertime in America. Favorite track: In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Honorable mention: Whipping Post
I'm not into live albums
I usually don’t like Live albums, but I actually enjoyed this one!
It was good but all the songs kind of blended into one by the end.
Bluesy jams - decent enough not life changing
Not bad
Just never gonna be my cup of tea, but the skill is definitely apparent
Country music!!!! Excelent!
Decent album, probably better as a live show
This is a very good live album, but it's still a live album and I prefer studios over it. Reading the Wikipedia link, I understood the reasons for a live album, but I still prefer the studio versions
Didn't listen this time but I have before - a good album
I am sure it was cool to see it live, but a song is a song and a jam is a jam.
Anooother live album
Blues more than rock. Well done but hardly inventive, progressive, novel etc...
My worst nightmare: a live album with only 7 songs clocking in at over an hour!!! Not terrible, just interminable. 2.5 rounded up.
All the guitar solos
Pretty good live album, haven't heard Allman Brothers Band too much to comment on how it compares to their studio albums.
Good life concerts, with style. It doesn't convince me, way too long and similar. It is good for some groove though.
Cool guitar but otherwise nothing too special
Their guitar playing is on point for sure. I'm still not sold on them entirely though.
Good live album. Would have loved to see them live but for an album it goes on a bit.
Hip!
Jam band with great sound.
Good rock even though long live songs like this are better appreciated live.
Too much noodling. Their studio work is far better
boring not at all my style
still not a fan of live albums. while the Allman Brothers are a classic this album is not. much better choices exist than this album. but then I have a severe anti-live album bias.
Boomer Bend: The Musical
Good riffs and shredding.
Country jazz
Whipping post will always be one of my all time favorite songs. This specific live album was a bit ....Click to Read More...
Another live album on the list, get this shit outta here
Another blues rock jam band from the '70s? Please, sir, I'd like some less
What I like about this challenge is that it’s making me consume music in a different way. I would never usually listen to a ten minute song that is mostly guitar. Historically I’ll find a song I like and repeat it again and again; preferring the predictably exciting over letting an album play in its entirety and following it through its ebbs and flows. Listening to an album as an ambient experience makes sense with albums like this, but I’m not really used to it, having grown up with an ipod that I can cherry pick the songs I like on. I don’t know why I’ve said all of this but I hope I can be more open minded to all different genres and eras of music in the future. It’s one thing to WANT to like new music but obviously what we actually DO like is shaped by everything we’ve heard before and the way we’ve heard it, to a certain extent. Anyway, all of this is to say that this is a 2 for now, but maybe not forever.
Sicher ein gutes Live Album aber nicht mein Geschmack
Enjoyable to work to but not a huge stand out for me
Pretty dull and samey
Boring not my type at all. Very bluesy.
Yet more jam band dross, yet another live album filled with noodling. I can hear the talent from outer space and I don’t mind the lack of structure but I do mind the unending public masturbation.
I did not get it. Too bland?
Just end the damn song...
I don’t like live albums and I don’t like jam bands. This is unfortunately both. To top it all off, it’s also very long. There’s great talent on display, but I get no real enjoyment from it. Because I have to listen to a minutes long section of a 18 minute song with tiny guitar licks and nothing else. And all I can think during this is that this is on the list when so many other amazing albums aren’t. It could be transcendent for some, but for me it was just a struggle.
Meh.
Viimeseen asti revittelyä ja fiilistelyä soittimilla. Biisit voi olla yli 20 minuuttisia. Sopii varmaan jonku tekemisen taustameluksi. Ei täysin mun musaa.
Esse tipo de blues rock não é para mim. É muito chato esse troço.
Guitar go burr wang Wong
Prefer the whipping post tbh.
I have 1000000 different options to choose from if I want to listen to something like this.
I made it like two songs in and technically speaking it’s really good I was just really not in the headspace for over an hour of this
They're really good, and I don't know if they've written a bad song, but none of their best stuff is here. The stuff that is all feels a bit forgettable.
this is long and bluesy. As a blues man its a bit too much for me and its long as heck. 22 minutes for Whipping post? come on man.
An hour and eighteen minutes of bluesy guitar solos. Not for me at all but I get why folks would dig it. I could handle about 15 minutes total
20 minute songs are absolutely outragous
**An ok album, very blusy
Too crunchy
track 1 : 3.5/5 track 2: 3.5/5 track 3: 5/5 (fav) track 4: 2.5/5 track 5: 4.5/5 track 6: 5/5 track 7: 4.2/5
Southern. Meh.
I can respect this but it's all a bit polished for my tastes. I like my blues to sound like it's being played by a virtuoso who is a dozen beers and bottle of rye deep and he's had to tape his guitar back together because a good old boy thought he looked at his woman the wrong way - it's held together now by rage, torment and gorilla tape and damn it sounds good. This is not that. They don't sound like they made a bargain with the devil. They sound like they practised for thousands of hours, dialling their tone, their rhythm, their cohesiveness. And, as I said, I can respect that, but it's not what I like in the blues. After the first few tracks it turns very jam-band. Again, I'm not opposed to jam music but I feel there are two styles - this is the "let's vibe on this for a while before resolving back to the original song" style jam. It's wandering, noodly, and it creates a vibe but doesn't tell a story. I prefer the jam that is telling the story - think some of the stuff on the Elder album Dead Roots Stirring, or maybe Hendrix (or even better - Uluru Rock by Earthless). Jams that are telling the tale - they feel free form but they have a structure: an escalation, a variation, a climax, then a resolution. One is saying "we're having fun, let's just hang out for a while longer" while the other is actively moving the story forward. Both have a place, but only one of them do I actually enjoy.
I feel like live albums are never a good idea. There are more people that don't have a good time than people that do from listening to live albums. Think about it. If you know the songs, you likely know them played a particular way. Live albums don't guarantee you that. Or if you don't know the songs, like me here, you can't learn to like them properly. Or you can't join the experience of the band and audience as the concert took place, because you're always left wondering what's next. My first decree as Dictator shall be to politely ask all bands to rerecord their live albums as studio albums.
#16 A live album of long blues rock jams. None of these songs did anything for me. I wouldn't say it's bad, it just feels long-winded and aimless.
Sweaty, white-guy blues.
nie mój styl
A live blues jam album. It’s not good is it
While this album is sonically and technically lovely, every song sounds the same, and the entire album ends up feeling very unimpressive and “fine”. I shudder to imagine the boredom I would get from being sat in the audience as this set was played at me, as I simply would have had to locate the fusebox, and jammed my finger into an open socket to shorten the thing for the greater good. Don’t worry, I’m sure another rock album will be given to me next, to add to the growing plethora that seems to make up this entire list!
Kinda just the definition of mid
I don't like blues and I don't like live albums, so this isnt for me. In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed grew on me, but the rest was rather forgettable.
meh
I don't like guitar solos and here we have a fine example of how awful they can be. Self indulgent egotistical noise. Santana it ain't.
I’m not opposed to this style of 70s hard Southern rock. In fact, it’s something I’ll occasionally put on. This was just ludicrously long and self-indulgent, though. Had it been 30 minutes shorter, I’d have given it a much more favourable review.
Not for me. Feels too much directionless noodling to me. Fav track: Stormy Monday
more blues
Not for me.
I am not a big fan of southern rock.
I found it real boring. The track I liked the most I guess was In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed
Segt i längden
Var säkert kul att vara där och höra det på plats, men som album kändes det bara alldeles för utdraget.
Jazz isn't my style but I liked some of the songs
Dull.
boogie woogie
ok if you enjoy guitar drifts. Otherwise I'd say you can skip it
My appreciation for the Allman Brothers meets my dislike for jam bands, and my dislike for jam bands wins out.
no es mi estilo
would much rather listen to the Quicksilver Messenger Service album at the Filmore that I gave 2 stars. psychedelic way better than blues. the more you can 'boogie' to a jam band the worse the music is
What’s the baby boomer equivalent of Cheugy? Is it Square? Maybe. This is music for squares. Maybe someone gets excited when they go to a show and it opens with a prolonged Blues Jam, but not me.
Honestly don't know what to think of this. Music seems good but more as a collection of sounds then an album in the traditional sense. Something I would probably enjoy live but I wouldn't enjoy listening at home.
Good live rock and roll. Entertaining, but felt a bit empty. Only moment in certain songs got me excited.
A blues jam album that I'm really not into.
Probably too much electric guitar for a knucklehead like me
ok
A great band playing boring music.
Rough listen, couldn't stick with it. Might have to revisit it sometime later, but it might be a bit of burnout from blues.
I mean I get it, they’re good at what they do. They know how to jam but seriously, it’s interesting for the first two songs and that’s it. Another hour with screams and yapping thrown in between, was not necessary.
Less blues, more greeny-purple.
Fine as background fodder, bit too long and the guitar solo on the final track was pure overindulgence
To release a live album it needs to be exceptional - this isn't
Audio equivalent of giving yourself a pat on the back, very technically impressive but as a collection of songs… decent at best
If I lived through the 70s, all the white man blues might have ruined ripping endless white rails.
ehhh
2/5
Damn I really disliked listening to this. One long noodly electric blues-rock guitar solo drilling into my brain. I felt like I was sitting in a gentrified BBQ restaurant for 75 minutes. I'm assured this is an important/influential album for many later improv-based bands -- sure, fine.
I am aware of some excellent Allman Brotherds songs; unfortunately, none are on this live album. It’s mostly long blues meanderings with moments of fusion sprinkled here and there.
fine but i just don't enjoy jamming that much...2 stars since i don't think i would ever return to this
Enjoyed the guitar work on it, but I found the extensive jam aspect to it to overstay it's welcome, just not to my taste
Most the songs are VERYYY LONG, like 18 minutes is insane and mostly purely instrumental but very jammy instrumental so one can appreciate!! It’s not necessarily my thing so can’t say I see myself rushing back to it but the beat is good I enjoyed it and the guys voice is very satisfying just not necessarily my thing but nothing wrong with it ! I am a lyric enjoyer and these songs like precisely that but could be a good listen when im reading or something and lyrics are distracting! Though when there is lyrics in the songs I did enjoy them.
Don’t you just love it when things go on and on and on and you never know when they’re gonna stop and you can’t wait until they do?
meh
Álbum en vivo. Estilo rock/blues. La música en sí es buena, podría ser algo que suene en la casa de mi papá tranquilamente. Pero en sí, se me hace muy largo (temas de 18 min y más) y bastante repetitivo. Not my kind of music.
I agree with other reviewers. There's just nothing compelling about this album.
This was better than I expected. I like a lot of classic rock bands but not a fan of the more overtly bluesy ones. It certainly felt like it was a bit more accessible but I still can't get on board with songs of 23 mins though.
This was not fun to get through. Only 8 songs on the album and three of them over 15 minutes is not great. "Statesboro Blues" and "Hot'Lanta" were fine
There were some ok tracks on here but mostly this was just BORING. Like 20 minutes of guitar noodling boring. Who would willingly pay to listen to this, let alone go see it live?
As a guitarist, I’ve always felt like I ought to love the Allman Brothers… but this endless faffing about over standard blues patterns does little to maintain my interest. At times, it seemed like it would never end. Some say they’re still playing “Whipping Post” to this day.
Jam bands with 20 minute tracks are not it.
Talented, but live rock albums just aren’t my thing, and going on 1 ½ hours didn’t help this one. I need to either have attended or watched a video of the concert. Just listening to an album without seeing it first never really does it for me. 2.25 / 5
4/10
Holy shit this album is long. 50 minutes for an album sometimes feels like a chore to sit through, but 78 minutes is just straight torture. The music is pretty good, it really is, but if a song is 20+ minutes and I'm constantly waiting to see if it's close to ending, then it's not something I'm EVER going to even consider listening to again. I will not rate this album a one star only because I know there's going to be something later in this entire experience that I'll absolutely despise, and I don't think a one star rating would be very fair.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZ the same song played for 1 hour 18 minutes ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Instrumental Forgettable 2/5
4/10 - I am not a jam band guy. I like more structure and less length to my albums and songs. I’m sure these guys are very technically talented, but it did not hold my interest.
Not a huge fan of this kind of jam band music. It's not offensive but it's not something I would want to listen to again. 4/10
Not bad music by any means, they have a pretty good blues sound going but it feels very unremarkable.
On Harry Styles release weekend? I have better things to be listening to. (I’m starting to think that live albums shouldn’t be included in this exercise 🤔)
These guys could play their instruments well and they certainly ‘jammed’ but my life is no better for having heard this.
This was just ok
A decent start, but this soon got into noodling territory. I’m sure that air guitar wankers would enjoy it. Too long, too little impact.
There’s no reason this record should be preserved and honored. They’re not even a “band who jams.” This was unbearable after 10 minutes. Live albums shouldn’t be on this list anyway.
I didn’t mind it at first but then it went on… and on… and on.
I didn't think that was ever going to end. Holy crap.
I have a suspicion I will not like this. "Extended jams". Yup. More white blues covers that never end yet never get interesting. 2.5 rounded down Heard before? No Owned: No 48/214 (22%) Will I get: No
Blues band with lots of heavy guitar solos .barely barable
Soft Rock, ok
thought this album was short and sweet HOW WRONG I WAS when every track was like 8 minutes. it is just a standard blues album nothing stands out to me and other people have done it better. wont be revisiting. found it boring
Man, I don't have time for jam rock
Not really for me. I get the skills but just sounded like one long jam session.
They've got the blues. Now I have.
eh fine
Not my kind of thing … too long and rambling
Quietly flowing music. An average of 11 minutes per song.
my issue with a jam album like this is that i feel like it's pointless to package into an album? i don't think i feel like this about live albums in general because i think different performances of a song can have a lot of artistic merit. an album like this though feels meandering and unfocused. it feels like background noise. to me the primary value as jamming for an audience is the experience of *feeling* live music in a way that you fundamentally cannot get while sitting at home. it's not even that any of this outright sounds bad to my ear and more that it feels like nothing.
Its a live double album with a song over 20 minutes long on it. Any good part of this is buried under the noodling and jam-session versions of songs that I'm sure sounded great live in person with the atmosphere, but sitting at home and just listening to feels like someone riffing for far too long. Its well recorded, and the structured parts do really work and sound great, I just think this being the live album actually hinders it so much then it helps.
tight, but closer to elevator music than to any kind of statement
The guitars really carry this album haha. It’s a live album, which I don’t have a problem with, but for me personally the songs are maybe a little boring. Cool guitar skills, tho.
Not another live album. And a double album nonetheless. First LP consists only of covers, while the second one bloats the studio version of a song (5 minutes) to a 22 minutes monster. Those are jam sessions. While I do like some improvs or extended solos, this is way to much. And definitely nothing I nead to hear before I die.
As a drummer, I detest bands with two drummers. If you really want that sound, pipe your drummer through a chorus plugin or some shit. Sounds sloppy.
Impressive playing, but it all pretty much just blended into one long song after a while
I don't like blues rock, but this album wasn't that bad. Found one song that I really enjoyed, the rest was just a little bit boring.
#263/1001. To quote Stevie Ray Vaughan: "I might be white, but I ain't stupid". I ain't stupid enough to like white man's blues. All blues songs sound like they didn't wake up this morning.
Ramblin' Men playing THE BLUES .... sigh ... 2/5
честно я старался прочувствовать эту атмосферу но мне не зашло(
This is the type of shit that will play while Stephen Seagal beats up a bunch of hicks in a bar -- but there's no Seagal nor barfight in this album, so it's boring and pointless.
Meh not for me
I was surprised by this! This album had a lot of things against it. Jam band, live album, BUT the first few songs were such sweaty authentic blues rock that I was pleasantly surprised and excited to listen to more! Okay and then after the first few tracks it dissolved into the nonsense jam band live album snoozefest. Based on this album, if I'm rating jam bands: Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Phish. In that order.
The more blues rock sound in the beginning is a lot better than the rest of the jam band crap
There's little I dread so much in this challenge as the words "live jam band double album". I mean, look, it's impressive. It popularized jam bands. It sounds like a blast to have seen *live*. But listening at home, this is a chore. There are some brilliant moments but there's a lot of slog to get through in between. I can also understand that the blend of genres is innovative, but let's not overstate it. This is 99% southern rock jam sessions with a bit of jazz in the mix. I don't begrudge anyone for loving this though. I get it and I'm glad you enjoy. But for me, both the songs and the album just dragged in far too long.
I understand this album is held in high regard, but I am not a fan of indulgent 20 and 30 minute long jam sessions...I don't care who the band is. This is just not for me.
Siting in a nice shady bar having a few beers I probably would have a nice evening with those guys… sitting on my couch completely sober this really becomes boring very fastly…
Statesboro Blues 5/5 Done Something Wrong 3/5 Stormy Monday 2/5 You Don't Love Me 1/5 Hot'Lanta 2/5 In Memory of Elizabeth Reed 1/5 Whipping Post 1/5 Overall Album 2.14
Bit too bluesy for my taste. And yet another live album.
Meandering... but good
not my thing

Not bad, just not really for me
Objectively, they are extremely talented musicians. Clearly pioneered jam music in a lot of ways and I can respect that. As an album, it was just so long and the instrumental periods were felt so long. Was ready for it to end and unlikely to relisten.
First two songs were good but the rest of the album was boring.
tooo long, good instrumentals tho!
Live rock gave a sense of what it was like to be there!
A excepcion de la Freak on the Leash y Got the Life que son bangers esto es puro griterio con algunas canciones q son bastante flojardas
I don't know these guys, but this wasn't a bad album. However, I'm not sure why it's on this list.
Not a big fan of live albums.
it's blues rock, it's ok, but i'm not a fan of live albums and also i really don't like 20 minutes long tracks with just guitar rambling
Don't like live albums by anyone.
This is almost like hearing Mariah Carey sing: Highly technical and well performed, but it can definetly be too much. Listening to this jam session gets very tedious in the long run, and I had to do stuff on the side to get through it. My favourite experience of todays challenge was reading reviews of the album. Some of them are hilarious!
Music like this is the artistic equivalent of photorealistic pencil drawings of celebrities to me. There’s nothing interesting going on here any more than watching somebody solve a Rubik’s Cube. I get it. You can play guitar. Whatever
Generic slog of a live album
The gold standard in southern blues rock, the Allman Bros Band is awesome, but good lord some of these songs go on forever on this record. If I were seeing them perform this live, would probably be great. But the overly indulgent jams are too much on a recording. Just a bit tedious. Also, TOO much organ.
The beastie boys are an original rap group. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t an over the top enjoyment.
doceniam, ale styl muzyczny jest zbyt blusowy
Not a fan of live albums and while it started of great 35min of guitar solos is a bit much
I’m sure this was awesome to see live, but I don’t care for the recording.
Impressive at times, but drawn out.
Listening to this, I was astounded at the leads and how the songs all melted together. I looked up and it was the last track. Honestly, this is why I'm not in love with some blues and this album has some highs but it's too repetitive for me.
Good sound. Songs couldn't be longer than 10min though. Especially 3 of them on one album.
Okay I think I have a mixed relationship with this one because on the one hand I do really like the music and vibes and I loved the first song but I feel like my preference for albums with vocals over just instrumentals makes it a bit less appealing to me. Plus there are some LONG songs where it's just like instruments playing for 10-25 minutes so I'm not particularly inclined to revisit or care for it.
Meh. That’s all I can muster for this.
Plenty of Allmam I like. The record with songs like Jessica is great. This though have been little difficult for me to grasp, although great live recording. It feels like a recording filled with boomer bends, and nothing else.
Jam band, Live album. Hard to like unless you're a fan from prior releases.
Uhh... sure. Maybe I'll revisit when I'm older and wiser.
Not really my jam.
Not my style
It's rare I'll ever love a live album and this record is no different. There's no doubt it's a strong live performance and I enjoyed some of the songs, especially as this was my first time listening to anything at all from Allman Brothers Band. However, live music should only be enjoyed in person, and I found myself getting tired of this album past half way.
Ploddy noddy dad music
Meh..
Ok. Blues / bluegrass, but not my thing
7 songs. 78 minutes. 😅 Well, the first song is Statesborough Blues which is a classic bluesy sound. Generic, but it bops. Stormy Monday is mellower, but still rooted in the Blues. When they are playing proper tunes they're interesting, but some of the solos are just odd. The longer songs have these sections that just are a bit pretentious. Plock plock plock...shut the fuck up. Jazz Wankery.
I just simply don't like jam bands, but I can behind some good blues. But I can't take this much of it
Definite sounds of the 70's. It's not bad; it just doesn't stand out to me. The kind of 70's music I've heard most of my life and would be ok not hearing again. The self-indulgent length of some of these songs without ever actually going anywhere makes it apparent why punk music became necessary.
