This was good shit.
Very 50s had a couple surprising moments. Good overall. Enjoyable album
Took a couple of tracks for me to get into this but once I settled into it I really enjoyed it. As stated by other, it really is great fun, after around 500 albums it think this is the first one that made me lol out loud. Tell you what though, if he ever invites you round for meatballs DO NOT eat more than your allocated amount coz this guy can really hold a grudge.
Fantastic will listen again
"The Wildest" heralds from the distant haze of 1958- to this millennial, it might as well be a time wrapped in legend and myth, where "the wildest" anybody ever behaved was in blasts of saturated saxophones and gruff, rasping vocals and bursts of scat. Throughout the running time, Louis Prima comes swinging out of these songs with a swaggering, irresistible charm. He's deft, energetic and relentlessly upbeat. His ad-libs in "I Ain't Got Nobody", his responses to Keely Smith in "The Lip", his manic enthusisasm in "Jump, Jive and Wail", his brief steam train impression in "When It's Sleepy Time Down South", his unexpected tenderness in the lovely "Buona Sera". These are all great songs, but the real showstopper comes right out of the gate with "Just a Gigolo/Ain't Got Nobody". It's a magnificent showcase for Prima and his backing band, encapsulating the spirit the whole album has to offer. The moment it switches to the latter track, the energy kicks up a gear, the backing vocals swell underneath Prima, and the drummer (Bobby Morris) absolutely lets rip on the snare. You could just listen to this and not miss too much nuance from the other tracks, but the whole album is worth spending time with. There's some welcome variation in the rest of the album. Keely Smith is a welcome addition on vocals- she gives great performances in "(Nothing's Too Good) For My Baby" and "The Lip", with amusing interjections from Prima. "Body and Soul" and "Night Train" are two gloriously performed instrumentals, with real passion and panache from the whole band. Is "The Wildest" an all-out masterpiece? Probably not. But it's certainly the most fun I've had listening to any pre-60's album on the list so far- perhaps the earliest album I could put on at a party and know it would guarantee a good time for all.
Infectious attitude carries this album. The songs are pretty good too, but the best part was just the feeling of joy that permeated the whole thing.
Прослушано! Отличный ретро альбом с хорошей музыкой и тёплым вокалом.
9/10
How many times does he say baby? Will need to do a count later
I quite liked this album. The man can play some serious trumpet. Makes me want to watch Jungle Book again :) 4/5
Just super fun swing music. Hard not to tap your foot to the groove. Saxophone drives the rockin' album. Standouts are "Jump, Jive, An' Wail" and "Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody"
A really good listen. This isn't an album that you put on to just listen to. You put it on and let the music enhance the mood of the room.....if that makes sense.
very awesome
absolutely pleasant. 4.
Super fun album that somehow manages to be of its time and also timeless. Best track: Night Train
“Daddy is in the kitchen looking for a bottle of ale. Mama is in the backyard learning how to jive and wail.” You can’t beat that!
Sure it's repetitive and a little dated, but as a person of spaghetti heritage something about Louis Prima just kind of hits right.
This was a nice antidote to the last album. More energy and just a good time all around. I assume gigolo meant something different in the 1950’s? Also wonder if this was one Pops liked
Strong 4, high note grease
This was a fun experience from the beginning to the end. I might have heard of his name before but this definitely makes me eager to check out his other songs. I recognized "Buona Sera", but I'm not sure if it was from TV or movies or what.
Thoroughly enjoyed that, literally danced my way to work.
Hilarious, joyful, and great. 4/5
That was fun! I recognized a lot of the songs. Love "Just a Gigolo" especially.
I had never heard of Louis Prima, but his voice and several songs on this album were familiar to me. It's kinda impossible not to like this - this musicianship is amazing, the songs irresistibly upbeat, swingy, and fun.
This album was a lot more fun and free than I thought it was going to be. Pretty innovative for it's time.
Probably the old album that I still like. Good jazz.
I loved it! I’m slowly realizing I love oldies music.
I really liked this album. Would listen to it again. Had heard several songs before but didn’t know him as the original artist!
Very enjoyable and fun, sounds like they were having a blast while making it! Not really my kind of thing up to now, but maybe it should be!
This almost strikes me as a novelty record more about comedy than music. The songs are upbeat and fun. Prima’s raspy vocals are perfect for this. Jazz is such a broad term but this is probably as mainstream and accessible it can be.
I read on Wikipedia that the intention here was to preserve the feeling of his live Vegas show and I think they was done well. Louis Prima has a unique voice and is quite charming. Also, Jump, Jive, an’ Wail, gives us the bridge between big band era jazz and early rock and roll and shows us the similarities between them.
I have been listening to jazz quite a bit in the past few years and studying jazz as both a listener and beginner musician, and the more I explore it and learn about its roots and history, the more I love it. I had heard of Louis Prima by name but don't think I'd listened to him. This is great stuff! Love this era of jazz and the songs on this album help transport me to a time I never experienced. Really fun to time travel.
Fun album, high energy and easy listening.
Shockingly delightful! I tend to find the 50's crooners boring but this was so jazzy and fun!
Jump jive! Solid album, love Louis Prima's voice.
Awesome!
Hresst jive, mjög skemmtilegt.
Listened Before? N Holy wow! This was soo good! I love the swing style here and the band and singers are all top-notch. Another highly rated 50s album for me. Looks like I was missing out on a whole decade! Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Just a Gigilo, Jump, Jive and Wail
Fun album.
Retro. Se escucha lindo y es alegre, con buenos temas. Para poner un domingo al mediodía, de fondo.
Good classic jazz blues standards from the late 50’s
Not really my style of music, but a nice chill vybe
Classic
so may songs I didn't know I knew. great vibes. reminds me of many classic films
Vibey
So much fun.
Not my favourite flavour of jazz by quite a margin, but - This is very good jazz, delivered sublimely by an excellent voice. A bit of a heretical anecdote: I much prefer David Lee Roth's Just a Jigolo. Not that there's anything wrong with Prima's.
What a great album! I was pleasantly surprised. Really dug the trombone player's chops on "Body And Soul". So many great tunes. Found my toe tapping many times. Fun Fact: Keely Smith was Prima's then-wife. They eventually divorced. She had 4 husbands and many known affairs and boyfriends. Scandalous! :D
Perfect Monday tunes
A fun and enjoyable listen
This was a really fun listen. I have to admit I wasn’t immediately familiar with Louis Prima’s name, but I definitely recognized his voice and a lot of the songs. Jump Jive N Wail brought me back to that 18 month period in 7th/8th grade when everyone was briefly obsessed with swing dancing. I liked how many songs had jokes, like banana split for my baby. I also kept expecting to hear “Pennies from heaven” and I couldn’t figure out why. I looked it up after and that is another one of his songs.
I enjoyed this! Jump, Jive, An'Wail is a classic, I assume this may have been a cover? Not really sure, but I really enjoyed the opening track as well (Just a Gigolo). I don't normally listen to this genre but definitely added some new music to my rotation!
This is a lot of fun. I imagine sipping a pina colada on a beach with the cast of Goodfellas.
interesting album. I liked it and recognized some re-makes from later artists.
Fun!
oh, I never knew who sang "Just a Gigolo". This is kind of like the cuban big band stuff for me. It's raucous and fun. The musicians are legit. The sound is so big and brassy... and for some reason I never listen to it. I'm dumb.
I absolutely love bombastic electric jazzy big bands. Louis Prima "The Wildest!" fires on all cylinders to really energize.
Four stars for the abundance of great trombone solos
A joy to listen to. Highly recommended.
What an absolutely fantastic jazz album. Scats and hollers. Howls and jams in all the best ways. Prima is at his prime for sure. Such a great musical piece.
Prima living it the fuck up. I love this guys shit man.
I enjoyed this quite a bit more than I expected. I was thinking it would just be some nostalgic, dated bullshit, but it still sounds great. A rip roarin' good time. 4 stars.
Really enjoyed this great 50’s album from King Louie himself.
This album was certainly wild! I enjoyed it very much. Familiar songs in Just A Gigolo and Jump, Jive, and Wail. All the rest of the songs may have been new to me, but I enjoyed every minute of the album.
Liked this more than I expected. I think it's because of the goofiness. The lyrics were funny and engaging. 3.75/5
Some fun and catchy jazz with a lot of classics, enjoyed this quite a bit.
I only really knew Louis as King Louie, but hey, this is a lot of fun! I guess this is more of a greatest hits than a cohesive album, but that's fine, it lives up to the promise. B
Flott rödd og gott swing. What's not to like?
A great, fun album!
This is really great; I kind of know Louis Prima as a bit of a jokey guy, and this is ridiculous, but it's also really good.
Pretty good.
Lots of fun. Makes me want to dance
I love music like this and just a gigolo is great but this album got on the annoying side after a while with how high energy and busy some of the songs are. Not too annoying tho
made me laugh
This album is loads of fun...just like it's most famous tune....Just a Gigolo. 4 🌟
4.5. This is a fun album. Definitely didn't realize I knew this artist a little when it came up!
I could listen to this all day... and pretty much did.
Absolutely loved this album really enjoyed listening!! I have since gone back and re-listened to some of the songs and added them to playlists as well. I love this era/genre of music and I especially love the Jungle book soundtrack so it was fun to hear elements of that in these songs as well. I actually really love the 50s thing of combining two songs into one it's great!
C'est bien, c'Est comique et les standards de jazz sont bien exécuté. Je vais dire comme une autre critique sur ce site, c'est un bon album pour cuisiner et pour écoute ren background. Ca sonne bien. Franchement ahah 4.0
Really enjoyed this… upbeat and fun!
Good tunes. Sounds like they had the time of their lives making then.
Fun! I don't really see myself being in the mood for this on many occasions, but I did enjoy it and it would be really perfect for an old-timey themed party.
If you can't enjoy this album, there must be something wrong with you. A mix of jazz, swing, Jive and Blues. You can just hear these songs being played in a Tim Burton or John Hughes film when everyone is just enjoying life. And why shouldn't you once in a while? Best Tracks: Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody; Jump, Jive an' Wail; Buona Sera
'Just a Gigolo' è un classico, con un particolare stile che avrei ricondotto al periodo tra le guerre. (infatti è così) Bellissima anche "Oh marie"
A very fun, swinging 50s album that I will surely come back to!
I don't think I wanted to jump off that ride, but it was going so fast that in the end that matters not at all. Great to have a plain fun album again. Strong tunes, interesting vocal performance, great medley choices and a joke to top it off (until I get through the bonus tracks tomorrow).
Yep. It swings, hepcats. Really impressed by the production and how great the entire record sounds. Prima’s voice is one of a kind (just like Diamond Dave’s) and despite some of the weirder affectations he does with it I never grew annoyed or agitated by the performance (also, just like Diamond Dave’s). He clearly found a lane for himself and that voice and is just cruising with the top down, probably smoking like 90 cigarettes an hour. Thanks for the reminder, Craig. I just barely remember her in that movie but now I want to check out her solo stuff.
-He definitely be groovin' and jivin' on the sax and/or trumpet. Overall just a bunch of fun tracks with lots of energy -"(I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You" is pretty savage
Pretty good jazz
Reminds me of my days of playing Fall Out 3 and 4. Nostalgia and the fact that it’s pretty catchy give it a solid 4.5 for me.
Muy bueno
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Proper loves this!
Louis Prima is amazing! But ...Listen, would you mind explaining to me how the fuck this list does not contain any Chuck Berry or Louis Armstrong? How is that possible? (7/10) FT: Just a Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody (and Nobody Cares for Me), (I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You
Cool
This album is a great reminder on the impact that Louis Prima had on so many genres of music; storyteller, swing, jump blues, Orleans Jazz, pre-Rock and Roll. Most people would know his music by more recent versions by other artists, they likely would not recognize him as the voice of King Louie in the original Jungle Book and his great take on "I Wanna Be Like You". This is a compelling album and is easy to get hooked on, it puts a smile on your face and a jump in your step! Singer, songwriter, bandleader and trumpet player, he does it all. Hard to pick favorites but I will go with, "Just a Gigolo Medley", "Oh Marie", "Buena Sera", "Jump, Jive an Wail". 4 out of 5 stars
The Wildest! truly imparts Louis Prima's style onto a record, as the singer/trumpeter sounds like he's barely holding it together or about to burst out laughing with some of the lyrics he's squeezing into certain bars. I have a soft spot for this era, and Prima provides a nice combination of upbeat blues, jazz and early rock'n'roll. (Hats off to Louis and his band for adapting to the new rock style and not rejecting it). Fav Tracks: Just a Gigaloo/I Ain't Got Nobody, Oh Marie, Jump Jive an' Wail, (I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You, Buena Sera
This is precisely the kind of discovery I most appreciate about this exercise: a hidden gem I would have most likely never sought out otherwise. The Wildest! is a freewheelin' mish-mash of early rock, 50s jazz, soul, and a whole lot more shot through with exuberance. It's sounds like the best party you've never been to. Favourite tracks: Just a Gigalo/I Ain't Got Nobody; Jump, Jive, An' Wail; Bouna Sera
Infectious, light hearted, fun music with piano and brass, and Louis Prima’s mellow joy inspiring vocals. Tempted to give it 5 stars especially in context of 1956, but I think that might do a disservice to some of the deeper jazz that appeared in this era
Good fun album!
great songs great execution still swings after more than 60 years
I was surprised by a few things on this album: 1) How many of these songs I knew that other artists covered. 2) How many of them Prima put the accents on very different spots in the songs. It was a little jarring, but definitely intriguing. This was not a surprise, as I already liked Prima's work. I was surprised at how the album was considered so... eclectic in some ways. The mix is very appealing. Definitely something I will revisit.
Great energy on this album. And nice to discover that some of the songs were first recorded (or first gained traction) with Louis Prima (Jump, Jive, and Wail; Buona Sera). A fun, rocking blues/jazz/swing album. Great rendition of Just a Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody (far better than DLR and always a fun medley).
A fun swing album from start to finish. This is the first time I've listened to Louis and can definitely hear the influence on David Lee Roth. Favorite tracks: Just A Gigolo, Oh Marie, Buono Sera.
A pure delight of a record from a truly unique artist. This album is one of the best of its time and still is a joy to listen to today
This was very enjoyable and catchy. Favorites: Body and Soul; Jump, Jive an' Wail
A biased 4, this music just brings me a big smile!
Dope. Diverse and exciting track list.
Midway through it now, listening to "Body and Soul". While I haven't been loving or hating this album, I've gotta give this man his flowers for the trumpet work here. I used to play back in middle school and holy heck is he doing some wild stuff with that thang. Hahaha the banana split song is really fun, too. That one might be a keeper. I've actually been jamming to this way harder than previous albums on this list - my shoulders and feet keep grooving all on their own!
* Great tunes.swing music? Great remasters for songs recorded 56 years ago.
Great swing record, but easily remembered for Prima's vocal chops and energy more than anything else. Are there good solos on here? Sure. But there's also Prima's crazy scatting and that's the guy on the cover, so who are you really here for?
So wild! The Wildest!
Rimelig hyggeligt! :D
This was a lot of fun. I think I need more of this kind if music in my life. I can't give it a 5 but there's really not a bad song in here.
Cool to hear the originals to some classic songs. FUN, is the work I would use to describe this album. Music=Joy.
This is a really fun album. Love the classic jazzy pop sound of the sounds and the topics of the lyrics keep it an interesting listen. 7/10
I thoroughly enjoyed this album, but not sure whether I'd revisit a lot of these songs again.
What a fun album! I will listen to this again. Especially loved the Banana Split song.

Opens strong with a jazzy melodic surprisingly touching song about the intangible nature of youth and identity. From there the rest of the album is great Frankie and Bennies music. A lot more to this than most albums like this. The good: Just a gigolo, The Lip
Upbeat and fun. Quite liked this.
Sounds very experimental, some are nice some are roo experimental for me
Definitely not my go-to genre but the entire album was upbeat and fun to listen to. Glad I did.
Definitely a lot of fun. His live shows must have been insane - imagine a New Years Eve party with him. Prime Prima. Note: David Lee Roth's "Just a Gigolo" is a note-for-note, word-for-word, scat-for-scat copy of Louis Prima's original on this album.
Great to hear where all those songs everyone knows came from. I had no idea.
Fun. Baby hated it.
Very fun! Soundtrack to New York in ~the past~
Fun!
old and good music
Just good old time sound
Джаз, зашло, +трек в плейлист
Fun, but starts to feel a bit one note by the end
Made my Friday working session pretty enjoyable!
"Gimme a C, a bouncy C."
Bela amostra do swing dos anos 50.
4/5 you know what, this was a good one.
Fantastic. Origin of many familiars.
The album sounded like primo 1950s in a good way. I was surprised by how many songs I recognized but had heard performed by others.
good and goofy swing music, not extremely outstanding but it was nice to listen to and i really liked the harmonies on the first song. 8/10
8/10. Very energetic, lots of fun to listen to
It's a lot of fun! 8
Fills a very real need.
Timeless
Bello ma non il mio genere
Some great classics: Giggalo/I ain't got nobody, The Lip,k Jump Jive and Wail, You Rascal You...
Just a jigalo
How could you not like it?
listened to it before
Love the old school big band vibes
Fun, a bit formulaic, but fun.
This is a fun listen
Good fun
Love me some Louis Prima. Brings me back to weddings as a kid.
It was nice in the background but not my style and not something I would actively listen to
I love these 50’s jazzy pop albums! So good!
50s best decade. Fight me
Solid album, plenty fun to listen to.
Começa bastante bem, mas fica um pouco repetitivo, mas é bastante bom. Nota: 7/10
Better than expected
Big band! Just a jiggalo! Took some work to get this to play but it's pretty good. Fun.
I enjoy this a surprising amount, best album we've had on the list for a while.. Lighthearted fun, nice mix of jazzy backing and nonsense
I loved listening to this. Fun and upbeat from start to finish.
Aangenaam
Muziek om vrolijk van te worden. Maar naar het einde toe was het een beetje te veel van hetzelfde
Classic big band swing, cool endings to the tunes. Must've been very influential at the time. Blues meets rock and roll.
Ahh memories of the Reservoir Lounge. We would go there after squash league every week for a couple of years. Bradley and the Bouncers was the house band on the night we played. I got to know Bradley quite well. They always played "Just a Gigolo" and he would let me, and any other inebriated squash guy who was up for it, "help" sing the ``I ain't got nobody" line. I kept bugging Bradley to let me sing the "Babadebabadebabaduloop" part but he strictly followed the first rule of letting a patron sing. That rule is to hold the mic near the patron but NEVER NEVER let go of the mic. Needless to say my short singing career never did include singing the gibberish part of the tune. Bradley was a wise man. Buona Sera is another classic Louis P tune.. I had a soundtrack to the movie "The Big Night" which was about some Italians from the old country who had a restaurant in New York. The soundtrack was classic Italiano and included a few Louis P tunes including Buona Sera and Oh Marie. I can't go less than 4 given the great memories of the Res as well as the glory days of squash. Thanks in advance to Mike for keeping his views on our relative squash abilities to himself.
8/10
.
Surprisingly good. Voice of King Louis from the jungle book too. Perfect length, would have begun to grate if it was much longer I think
I'm so glad Louis made The List. They live on nowadays mostly being played over the house PA in Italian restaurant chains like Buca de Beppo, but damn they were a great band, and Louis a great bandleader. Reminds me of a little bit Satchmo, a little bit Count Basie. So many songs were covered later, right? "Just a Gigolo" by David Lee Roth (hit in the 80s). "Jump Jive and Wail" by Brian Setzer (late 90s/early-oughts). I always hated how in "It's a Wonderful Life", in the Good Side version of the Universe, Bedford Falls is all white bread and black people are hired help and Martini's is a quaint little Italian tavern playing lame music, while in the Dark Side version of the universe, Potterville, the streets are lined with bars blasting seriously great music, and Martini's is manifested as Nick's, where Louis Prima and his band would totally fill up the juke box.
Joined this group to find some new music. Glad I found this.
The old swing jazz thing can be a bit cheesy, but it's still really nice to listen to
Great fun
It was good fun. It will be good to have on when I have friends or family for dinner.
This was great. Some good jazz standards. Will listen to this again.
Fun album
A lot of fun
I felt like I traveled through time to a really fun club. I really enjoyed it. But I also don’t think I will listen to it over and over
Really liked this
Excellent, a good discovery I can see myself listening to this again in the future.
C’mon Lou!
Excellent to potter around the house to
Timeless. Not a bad track on it. Have added to my library. Take a point off for singing other peoples songs but other than that love his voice and the vibe of the thing. More of this. 4/5
Very cool. Works as background music and loud
Pretty good, reminds of Mafia soundtrack
Funny and fresh
Who knew that every song having "(feat. so-and-so)" was not invented recently! Lively, catchy music from a bygone era. Overall a solid listening experience. Makes me want to do swing dancing!
Excelente descubrimiento
No sabía que es el jump blues. No sabía que esa canción se llamaba Jump, Jive An' Wail y al parecer no sabía nada de la vida. Songs: Jump, Jive An' Wail; (I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You, The Lip, Oh Marie,
There’s a reason they call him king louie
Goofin and funnin
Loved it. Sounds of the 50s
Very fun record! I'm really enjoying this blast from the past.
Es un cuatro que debería ser cinco pero no me animé. Y es que está buenísimo, perfecto y todo, pero ¿lo escucharía cualquier día para pasar el rato? No lo sé. 4.99 por eso. Lo siento.
Good
Chulada papaw
Awesome
So GOOD
Brill, wanna be like you. Some classics.
Este disco ya era bien rockanrolero y jump jive es un claro ejemplo Había escuchado varias canciones pero no sabía de quieren eran. Supongo que era la música diabólica de sus tiempos
Loved it. Great album. Would listen to again.
Fun, enjoyable
ridiculous and old timey and la mf prima fav track: jump, jive an' wail
EXTREMELY fun to listen to!
Jazzy and fun.
unexpected bop
Good classic
Entertaining - good background music. 40s/50s lots of horns.
Really fun! More of a background music album than a deep-dive, but a few very fun big band classics along with some lovely jazz tunes.
Louis-esque jazz
fun oldies!
Reminds me of Mad Men and Fallout.
Primo dino 50's jazz. Jump, Jive, an Wail.
Classic oldies fifties plaatjes. Soms zeer typisch, soms zeer leuk.
quite good
I dug this one
Spotify. Fave Song - "(I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You" 4.25 fun listen.
7/10 F.t.: Just a gigolo
Kind of reminds me of christmas. I enjoyed it though
Simple fun
Lots of fun. The voice is so familiar just through pop culture references, like old cartoons 'n shit. Filled with innuendos. Old-timey music for people who are no longer with us.
very hard to overstate what a perfect little song I Ain't Got Nobody is. there is a thesis that lives at the heart of most live music performance that says it is easier to be lonely when you're together, when you can voice that loneliness in a room full of strangers that all feel the same way, and Louis Prima is operating on the same idea here. he stretches and tears at the songs title, chopping it up into bits to mull over, and then begins shouting it back and forth with his band, whipping himself up into giddy tongues, seeming to say how hard it was to feel this way, and how great it is that i don't anymore, or how exciting that i might not soon so. we love Louis Prima! that's established! he's so dynamic and funny and full of feeling - so man, where the fuck is he for so much of this record? after loving the first track, i was kind of bummed to find this to be, in large swathes, an instrumental record. even on tracks where Prima sings, it's often only a bit before taking a trumpet solo or letting the band pound out a chorus. everyone sounds warm and lovely and fun, and the duets with Keely Smith have a real sexy kind of charm to them, but it's hard to get over my expectations being set so high out the gate
Really enjoyed this. Still a breath of fresh air after all these years. The influence on Paolo Nutini pretty apparent to me also. Solid 3
Review - this is the sort of thing this list is great for. Immediately recognised this voice but never knew the name. Fun, big band jazz. Score - 6.5/10 Need to listen? YES
Good vibes, funky tunes und bisschen ridiculously funny Lyrics. I guess natürlich nicht alle selbst geschrieben, aber trotzdem gute collection von songs und gute Stimmung
Albümün neredeyse tamamını dinledim, hala dinliyorum. Şu an için bana hitap etmedi.
Started with a bang. Then it couldn't keep the pace.
Day 320 Don’t try the recipe in The Lip! Didn’t improve my trumpet playing at all, just shit myself inside out
Sont donc ben énarvés eux-autres. 3.49 étoiles
fav songs: just a gigolo / i ain't got nobody (nothing's too good) for my baby banana split for my baby playful, swing, BA DA BA DOP 60/100
some fun songs. very fallout-coded. 3/5.
These songs are the ones my Dad would sing whilst shaving in the bathroom next to my bedroom every morning. Don’t like them but love that the keep my memories of my Dad alive. 3/5 26/6/26
only had the chance to listen the album once, it got a kick to it
Fun album, not a perma vibe, but it's cool to just leave on and play something. 3/5
traditional
I don't really know enough about this kind of music to judge beyond "it's nice"/"it grates" or "trumpet fun"/"trumpet bad", but I enjoyed this. Playful songs and energetic vocals with that great King Louie rasp. Worth listening just for the line, "When you're dead and in your grave, no more ravioli will you crave." Trumpet fun :)
Doo ba doo ba doo ba doo ba doo ba doo …. Good fun but a bit too much scat for my liking
‘Just a Gigolo’ is incredible — the energy in the room, the whistles and cries that form into a call and response chorus, the wonderful delivery of ‘I ain’t so bad’ - Absolutely fantastic, listened to it four times already. On a second playthrough the whole thing actually massively grew on me - this dude is just so infectious, everyone seems to be having so much fun! He seems to just lose his mind halfway through ‘Basin Street Blues’ and the band know exactly how to respond! Man, I love this stuff. Also ‘I’ll be Glad When You’re Dead’ is a very strong title to close an album with.
Really fun
A few really fun songs but not sure how often I would think to listen to this
dost dobre rychle ale po chvili uz celkom splyvave
It was interesting
Just a gigolo: Oh it's just so groovy For my baby: vocals, bass, piano, and snare just hits so nicely, also they make silly noises The lip: fun story and funny noises! Body and soul: the horn was so good and then it got a bit faster! So good! Oh Marie: jumpy and fun are the two words that come to mind so far for this album, just a pleasant stroll is what it feels like. Basis/Sleepy: Just a great voice for this kind of music Jump, Jive and Wail: general note for the whole thing, whoever is playing the instruments is just having so much fun(at least it sounds like it) Buona Sera: cute little waltzy song night train: it's just exactly what it sounds like Banana Split: I laughed out loud
old mid
fun old-timey music 💥just a gigolo 💥jump jive n wail 💥oh marie
Quite good.
그냥 재즈
The Wildest! was definitely an interesting album. I was going into this album expecting it to be nothing more than just another jazz album from the 1950s but it shocked me in so many ways with it's sheer weirdness. I'd say the one thing that shocked me the most was how wild these lyrics could get especially with (I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You like god i was not expecting you to get so violent Louie. The instrumental stuff is fine but virtually unchanging throughout the entire album as it just seems to rely on the same stuff throughout but i will say that having mixed vocals is interesting for a jazz album. Pretty good but not amazing. Best Song: Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody Worst Song: Whistle Stop
Another journey back to the 50's. With the reasonable quality and low frequency of records from that decade, my account on here looks like I'm one of those guys that hangs out at retro diners. NO. I don't pine for the days of leather jackets and marketing picnics and cigarettes to lobotomized wives with closeted husbands. I do; however, enjoy this record. It really is wild! No, we're not listening to Louis murmur to himself while hanging from a chandelier, loaded to the gills on lead paint and bath salts. Nope. No need to call the mental health division of the cops in order to peel his down from there and take him screaming to the drunk tank. It's more wild in the way that we hear different vocalists, energetic singing, jazz passages and more zany zoot suit nonsense. I'm not writing the by-line for this record but you know what I mean. Solid album, and a further indictment of my music taste, as the 1950's creeps up in my favourite musical decade list. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: Daddy has a room we're not allowed to go into. What do you mean there are 7 missing women from this area?
Much more like the sort of jazz I can listen to, enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would
Had some excellent opening tracks but lost its way towards the end.
I like Louis Prima. Fun songs, distinctive voice...he's like jazzy Jerry Lee Lewis. Just A Gigolo is a good song, I like Diamond Dave's version too. It strikes me that Louis Prima's public persona at least is not dissimilar to his portrayal of King Louie from The Jungle Book...I hope he was really like that too. Keely Smith should have asked for higher billing on this album. This album feels like the goofball answer to Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald's work together. The Lip is too silly now, all this stupid chatter. Keely Smith even sounds kind of like Ella. All of his songs sound a little bit the same...hard to tell Oh, Marie apart from his Pennies from Heaven, lyrics aside. And the start of the Basin Street Blues medly I thought was the start of Just A Gigolo again. Jump, Jive, An' Wail, Oxford comma aside, is a great song. Again, great in the 50s by Louis Prima, great in the 80s, this time by Brian Setzer. (I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You is another good song. This is a fun album, if not a great one necessarily.
fun!
Just a gigolo est bien, c’est assez charmant cette chanson à moitié chant à moitié préformée Et après c’est du vieux jazz, plutôt charmant mais c’est pas ma came 6/10
This was alright but it didn't vibe with me in the same way that other albums within similar genres tend to.
For a crooner, Prima was too down-to-earth and too roguish; as a jazz trumpeter, he was overshadowed by Louis Armstrong and Harry James; and yet, with his Italian-American accent, Prima was a star, and *The Wildest!* brings together his best songs on one album: ‘You Rascal You’, ‘Buona sera’, ‘Jump, Jive, An’ Wail’ and, of course, ‘Just A Gigolo / I Ain’t Got Nobody’, which was covered note-for-note by David Lee Roth in the 1980s (including the scat sequences) and was to become his greatest hit as a solo artist. Of course, the album has acquired quite a bit of patina over the years, but you simply cannot resist the rousing wildness of Louis Prima and his excellent band.
I am never going to stop talking about Banana Split for My Baby that one really, really got me. Great album for making a spicy Italian meal.
Not my sort of thing, but gave it a listen and enjoyed it!
Couldn’t get into it but some of the songs were pretty good.
Helt ok faktiskt, det trodde jag inte innan jag började lyssna. Duktiga musiker och trallvänlig musik. Oförargligt, men den musiken behövs också. Nynnade med ett flertal gånger och det är ändå ett positivt betyg. Mysigt.
I’d never heard of Louis Prima but I discovered I’d heard quite a few of these songs. A nice reminder that rock and roll didn’t spring from nowhere.
-this is my first venture into swing music i believe. not really my thing as far as jazz goes, but it was cool getting to hear such an influential trumpeter at his craziest -a lot of it was very corny and overstimulating but that was clearly what the man was going for, good on him -Favorites: Jump, Jive, an’ Wail, Night Train
not bad
It’s good, but I would only listen as an old background music while taking a nap because it’s less my vibe.
So Paolo Nutini just ripped off this old Italian guy then? Fair enough
Nice and uplifting album. Favorite Songs: Just a gigolo
Body and Soul Jump, Jive, An’ Wail Just a Gigolo
Not my usual style but incredibly catchy
Quite enjoying this so far, it's a bit of fun. Realise it's probs pop jazz, but for my untrained ears it's bearable.
very interesting the first song i got jump and jive
- funky -not really my feel -rate it a 3/5
Good album. A bit repetitive, always that walking bassline, but it's a classic and it created a clichê. I'm just a gigolo is a great song
like it
perfectly serviceable swing jazz. nothing to write home about, but nothing to sour the mood either. would probably sound nice while eating at a fancy italian place. 6/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: NOTHING'S TOO GOOD (FOR MY BABY,) THE LIP, BUONA SERA, YOU RASCAL YOU LEAST FAVOURITE SONGS: OH MARIE
Impossible to hate. It’s a joyful type of music. An instant vibe. Completely inoffensive. But I wouldn’t want to slap it on the speakers very often.
I wanna be a man-cub.
Pretty good. Reminds me of a mix of Louis Armstrong with Frank Sinatra or something. Not bad though.
This is the spot on the Venn diagram where “Jazz” overlaps with “Fun”.
6/10 - nice blues jazz 50s music, upbeat and some funny lyrics at times
Nice classic italian-american vocals and hilariously aged topics, like the intro track being about a gigolo. Standouts are gigolo and (nothing’s too good) for my baby.
I had fun with this! it's a bit more bland than a lot of other music from this era and genre which i think comes from the fact that it's white people doing it lol. but it's cute. Fav tracks: Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody; The Lip; (I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal
I was not familiar with this artist, though I'd heard Brian Setzer's cover of "Jump, Jive, an' Wail." I found this album pretty fun. It's hard to sit still with this kind of jazz. I'll probably never again listen to the album, but I had a good time with it and now have slightly expanded my jazz knowledge.
Its an okay jazz album everything started meshing together to the point I couldnt tell wether a new song had started and this was not in a good way. everything basically sounds the same. I like variety. Some songs that I liked were Just a Gigolo and Basin street blues.
each man its own taste.
not wild enough 3.5/5
This shit would slap so hard if I was a Latin American immigrant in Miami during the 80s
Upbeat temp, jazz and trumpet heavy licks, classic mid-50s sound, surprisingly funny. Didn't realize Brian Setzer covered 'Jump Jive and Wail'
Fun!
It's sunny in New Orleans. I get wired from drinking some espresso wearing cat eye sunglasses with a parasol by my side. I wave hi to my neighbors. I take a little stroll around the park and hear someone playing these songs. "The Wildest! is the gem of Louis Prima's catalogue. None of his other efforts transcend its raunchy mix of demented gibberish, blaring sax, and explosive swing, which rocked as hard as anything released at the time." -- Wikipedia
I wish more contemporary music had horns. This is well done and both Mr. Prima and the female singer have great voices and sound awesome together. I have heard some of these songs before to include "Jump, Jive, and Wail." I like the version on this album much more than the 90s version as this sounds much more authentic and of its time.
Solid
yea i mean, i didn't really listen. it's good.
the wildest no se pero uno de los wilder seguro
Un toque muy cincuentero
Swingin grooves
not my type of album but i like it
Not bad!
Lindo me gustó
