Reviews (page 2 of 13)
It's alright.
Does anything more need to be said about this album? Every instrument is played masterfully, Zeppelin combine their love of blues, folk and Tolkien and end up with one of the most beloved albums of all time. There's not a wasted second on here and there isn't anything that I would changed. It might get tiring to hear this get mentioned in the greatest album ever conversation along with other records like Dark Side Of The Moon, Abbey Road and Rumours, but it is really that good.
Is there even a question? Easily one of the greatest rock albums of all time. It’s as perfect as it gets. There’s not much more to say.
Always been a favourite! 1-4 by Zeppelin are all 5 stars in my opinion
easily one of the best albums from them. I have not heard many others, but here are Stairway to Heaven and Black Dog. And beside them, I find it so engaging how each song has something interesting to say musically: the groove, the melody, the concept. I find each of them remarkable in some way
The height of their mastery puts us on the stairway to heaven
Favorite Track: Stairway to Heaven
My dad said it was their best album and I can believe him even without hearing anything else from Led Zeppelin
Knew this would be a 5 before even listening. Incredible how many jams are on here
I’ll be so honest. This album has stairway to heaven on it. If it was that and then 2 hours of fart sounds it would still be 5 stars. The others songs are good too tho, doesn’t go above five tho unfortunately.
You could certainly argue that Led Zep have too many albums in here too but if you asked most people, I think this would be the one that they would choose, as it's generally considered their best. I'm fairly new to the band, other than a few of their hits. It wasn't until 2014-2015, when I started collecting vinyl and very quickly found their first 3 albums on vinyl. It wasn't until 2023 when I bought this and over time, it's slowly becoming one of my faves of their's too. Just 8 great songs, all killer, no filler!
If, by committing to this project and getting this far in your life that you're listening and writing reviews for albums, you have not heard THIS ALBUM yet, you need to reevaluate your life choices. Everyone who is enthusiastic about music will have heard and know at the very minimum the hits from this album, if not every single track. I played this album almost every day one summer as I found it in my dad's record collection, and probably wore the vinyl out. It's that good. It never ages. It's a classic for a reason. My rating: 5/5
Emotional das Beste. Wenn dieses eine Lied nicht wäre. deshalb nur 5/5
Well, I really dont have anything bad to say about this one. At one point I thought it might go a little glam-rocky, but I'm happy that it did not. Solid 5 probably
Ok…. HELL YEAH
Ledddddddd Zeppelin!! Fuck yeah. Music worthy of a list, and more importantly music worthy of your mind and soul’s time.
i meannn, perfect, nothing else to say, theres so many lefendary songs on here
Probably my least favorite of the good Zeppelin albums, and still a pretty easy 5.
Absolute masterpiece. Thought not even their best.
Their best album, just a beautiful and epic portrayal of life in a fantastical way, at least thats what i get from it. Standouts are Stairway to Heaven (obviously), Misty Mountain Hop and When The Levee Breaks.
This might be the easiest 5* on the list. Eight songs, eight massive hits, eight musical masterpieces, eight wildly different styles, and eight songs I'd listen to on infinite loop.
BEST ALBUM EVERRR
What a vibe! All good songs.
I think this is my own POP's favorite Zep album and is certainly in his top 5 all time albums. I heard it so many times growing up that there really was no moment I can recall where I "discovered" Led Zeppelin, they were always already there. We know that some things lose their luster with time. They no longer shimmer in the light like they once did and whatever strong feelings they once evoked have dulled. Sometimes I feel this way about the band overall, like they just don't have the punch they once did. And how do I feel about this album now that I've heard more clarified and powerful examples of all of the kinds of songs you can get from this record: rock and roll, blues, hard rock, fairy folk, etc.? It's the broadest and best of Zep with a good range of styles across its 8 songs / 43 mins and yet, and yet, picking it up again today I felt like I had to clean something off, a crust of cultural production, polish it up with a bit of listening effort (and more volume). Black Dog didn't immediately grab me by the collar like it had in the past. Here we could spend more bits and bytes reacting to the record but suffice it to say that there is something at the intersection of the listener and the sound wave — a special ZoSo magick — that keeps many of us coming back whether it sparks brightly on its own or needs a little dusting off at times. Stars: a four today, a five tomorrow? The sky is filled with good and bad / Mortals never know...
Strong contender for "best Led Zeppelin album". There isn't much to say - almost every song is a classic. Every time I listen to this album, I'm surprised by how well it withstood the test of time, even for songs that have been overplayed to death like Stairway To Heaven. It's hard to imagine this was released 55 years ago. I don't listen to this as much as I used to, but it remains an era-defining album. The magic still works for me, at least. 9/10
So much to say, such little time. One of my favourite and even the somewhat cheesy/ too easy Stairway to Heaven is a masterpiece of gradual build up. The legendary when the levee breaks and its iconic drum recording with loop effect in the hall of the castle where they wre recording... Good times indeed.
The definitive Led Zeppelin album: exciting, strangely joyful, and totally universal. Yet the cover, or songs like “The Battle of Evermore,” give it something strangely intimate too. It’s massive, but it still feels alive and fun. Hard to argue with this one.
“Zep time 4: led zep fury road” So I took February and March off from thinking about Led Zeppelin at all, because I wasn’t going to be listening to ROBERT PLANT’S voice during BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH. Then in April I wrote a really great review of this album but it was deleted because the site reloaded before I could save it. Discouraged, I took a month and a half off from any Led Zeppelin related stuff. And then I got this album for the “1001 Albums You Must Listen To Before You Die” album generator, and I, not wanting to break the run of Zep time reviews, rushed to the RYM review box to review this project. And lemme just say, this is their first genuinely great album, hands down. “Black Dog” is a great opener. Though I prefer “2122,” which is the opener off of Geese’s 3D Country and is directly derived from “Black Dog,” it’s still an incredible opener and a great way to start off this album. I mean, Plant’s vocals are the best they’ve ever been!! And I mean that! Then we have “Rock and Roll,” which, obviously, slaps SO hard. The rawness of the guitars and the vocals is great, and it’s just a driving song that really provides some serious momentum. After that is “The Battle of Evermore” which is a pretty underrated song that actually has some awesome melodies and vocal passages. I love the end of that song too, it’s super intense in a really great way. And then comes what’s arguably the best song on this album the legendary “Stairway to Heaven.” Iconic, every second. The intro, the vocals, the strummy riff, when the drums come in, everything is insanely good. It’s a simply unbelievable song and it takes the A-side to the next fucking level. Opening up the B-side is “Misty Mountain Hop,” which while being one of the less favorable songs on the album, is still respectable and great. Just kinda basic and not at all memorable and uhh… worst vocals on the album. But then we have “Four Sticks,”which is also kinda memorable except for IT’S IN MY FAVORITE TIME SIGNATURE!!! Ily 5/4 you make everything okay 🥰 then is “Going to California” which is a really pretty, sweet little folksong that Plant sings bearably, which is impressive for him. It’s pretty. It fills time well. And then is “When The Levee Breaks,” which is the best “cover” zep ever, EVER did. When you hear those drums… it’s like everything stops, and the song washes over you. It’s genuinely a transcendental experience of a song. And seven whole minutes! It’s ridiculous. Ridiculous and incredible and the perfect end to this album. So, I do indeed love this album. Easily the best Zep album so far, and one of the highest 9s I’ve ever given. Like, the sequencing? And the vocals? The guitar tones? The DRUM TONES???? Duuuuude don’t even play. This album is ridiculous and deserves pretty much all the praise it gets. 9.7/10
This is a vinyl I already owned, so I threw it on for a fresh listen Going in, I expected to see this album as pretty average - yes Stairway to heaven is an incredible track, but so much of Zeppelin's music feels old and stale. Glad that a fresh listen proved me wrong While hearing the first few tracks, I was reminded of why I ever bought the vinyl in the first place - this album and these tracks are ultimate comfort. Hearing that famous opening riff on black dog, hearing the ongoing cacophonous drum beat of rock and roll, hearing the smooth, mellow slide guitar against the screeching harmonica on when the levee breaks feels so familiar, yet so calming. I've heard these tracks (among many other zeppelin tracks) hundreds of times, yet I know and recognize the intricacies of each as if they're the back of my hand. In between the known tracks, the (relatively) calmer, lesser known tracks provide an excellent buffer to bring me back down to earth. Going to California feels like longing to drop everything and move across the country. Misty mountain hop feels like spending a Sunday afternoon together with close friends. Battle of evermore feels like a ballad which could have been the groups defining track. That brings me to the core of this album, what would actually become the groups defining track and a defining track of early-to-mid era rock and roll, stairway to heaven. Similar to the hits of this album, I've heard it hundreds of times before. However, hearing the first few faint guitar plucks, hearing the backing woodwind section, hearing Robert plant sing the first few lyrics, all feels like I'm listening to it again for the first time. Each of the major parts of the song feels like I'm a kid again - hearing the guitar give off more of an electric sound, hearing the drums crash in, hearing the riff which signals the transition between smooth, classic beats and a legendary guitar solo all feels familiar, yet gives me the sense of getting to enjoy it for the first time. This album is truly special. There's a reason people are still listening to it 50+ years later, and it's because led Zeppelin created a goddamn masterpiece
This project really has some surprising aspects. On the one hand, I’m discovering new music that makes me wonder why I didn’t listen to it much earlier. Then I listen to albums where I don’t understand why they’re supposed to be special. With Led Zeppelin, the thing is, I’ve always enjoyed listening to the band, but it’s only now that I’ve realized I’ve been a fan for a long time. I didn’t own this album myself until much later, but I listened to it often at friends’ houses when I was younger. I can’t figure out why I didn’t spend my allowance on this record. An all-around great album that I love listening to over and over again. 5/5
first of all, you gotta play it loud. second, this album suffers from success, and most notably from it's use in car commercials. Like The College Dropout, this is one of the first albums I remember listening to. One of the CDs I co'opted from dad I guess. I had kinda grown tired, maybe even dismissive of it because I had listened to it so much over the years. But I cannot deny that it's a fantastic album. This is the sound that defined rock and roll for me. I don't really care if they're stealing from what came before. The sound is incredible. This is my favorite LZ material because it combines folk fantasy and distorted guitars. It's fantastical rock music like Fleet Foxes and I haven't found much else like it. The more acoustic songs are beautiful and welcome contrast to the ruckus. Plant's vocals also sound better than they ever did. I think they're being layered a lot of the time and the effects are excellent. I must reiterate, it won't sound good if it's too quiet.
How can I praise this album in a way I haven't before? ... uh, let's see ... Straight bangers, back to back!
I mean, is there any other rating to give this?
It's not an album that I'm going to revisit much, but what else can you give this album. Also, Going to California is my favorite Led Zeppelin song, along with Bron-Yr-Aur.
My reaction on seeing the album come up: “Oh, sure, Zep 4, easy 5 rating. Wait, I forgot Black Dog *and* Rock and Roll are on this one. Can I go higher than 5?” Such a pleasure to listen to it start to end. I thought long ago that I'd filled my lifetime Stairway quota, but that was apparently wrong. It deserves every bit of its overplay during the album rock FM years of my youth, and every one of its 1.3 billion plays on Spotify, and whatever other airing it gets. Every other song on IV is a classic too. This isn't even my favorite Zeppelin album (that would be Physical Graffiti, and yes I'll be pissed off if that's not on this list) but it's perfect.
5/5 - The most classic of classic rock albums? Probably. My nostalgia for the album is endless, but I'd still listen to it any day. From the opening call of Black Dog to the relentless pounding of When the Levee Breaks, this is great.
First Led album I bought, listened to over and over, great time to blast. Truly a band that gets better with volume, as high as tolerable for best results. They were pretty transcendent here.
Might even be better than Zeppelin 3 but either way, both 5 stars
fuckin wild that you could put the songs on this in any order and it would still be ☆☆☆☆☆ the drums on"when the levee breaks" deserve a nobel, a Ramon Magsaysay,a Victoria cross, and fields medal.
It’s amazing and everyone knows it.
The Battle of Evermore и Going to California очень понравились. Бриты сверхлюди.
несмотря на главный хит, который слушать у меня уже нет сил, проходных песен на альбоме для меня нет, все очень хорошо, еще одна 5ка, просто рад был в очередной раз переслушать шедевр
My favorite of their albums. Probably their best.
This album is an all-timer for a reason. Every song an anthem, not a single misstep.
Like a good friend, this album is always there for you
Very Nice album!
Glorious
Really good album. All killer, no filler
Near prefect, Zepplin 4 is just hit after heavy hit
yeah, 5/5. Easily. Some amazing reviews in here, nothing to add for me.
Great album, not my fave led Zep but still a classic
Every song is incredible. I think the one I liked the least is Four Sticks. There’s something about it that doesn’t hit me like the others do but it’s still a masterful piece of music. Great album. Great band.
10/10
When you put aside all the 'greatest ever' nonsense that surrounds both the band and this album, this is a really good record. Yes, I occasionally get a little tired of some of the songs, and Stairway is over-praised and over-played, but when the guitar solo in that song starts, or the first drum hit thunders on When The Levee Breaks, or the Jew's harp opening to the album leads into "Hey Hey Mama" on Black Dog, it can still raise the pulse. The album is never less than good, sometimes overblown, sometimes exactly what is required. Today I noticed just how idiotic the lyrics in 'Misty Mountain Hop' are, but how wonderful the guitars under the OOO-OOH fade out are.
It’s become fashionable to bash Led Zeppelin, this album, and “Stairway to Heaven“. After all, much of the punk ethos of the mid-70s was a backlash to the bloated excesses of multiple performers (sometimes including Led Zep themselves) trying to copy/re-create/outdo this album. But forget all that. This is just a great album. Led Zeppelin sets out to make a rock tour de force as in “we’re going to show you how to play rock ‘n’ roll” and then does exactly that. The blues-based call and response of “Black Dog” opens the album, followed by the loud/fast warping of Chuck Berry that is “Rock and Roll”. Next comes the medieval/fantasy “Battle of Evermore” with its delicate guitar/mandolin sound. The side ends with “Stairway”, which comes across as a suite, with its opening acoustic section, a different middle, and then ending with a hard rock coda. For better or worse, “Bohemian Rhapsody“ doesn’t exist without this one showing the way. Side two opens with the iconic riff of “Misty Mountain Hop” while Robert Plant sings us a funny story about a riot. This is followed by the ultra heavy riff of “Four Sticks” (so named because John Bonham was bashing his kit with two mallets in each hand) with Plant wailing over the top of it. The mood lightens with the next song, the acoustic hippie anthem “Going to California” with its delicate acoustic guitar. The album closer “When the Levee Breaks” opens with a wailing harmonica over another heavy blues riff. This song sounds absolutely apocalyptic, like the world might actually end TOMORROW. This is right up there with Hendrix’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” for implied menace. Easy five stars.
Amazing album!
Overall: 10/10 I would love to write some big long review for this, but I also have absolutely nothing new or original to add to the conversation so...... Classic. Fav Song: When the Levee Breaks
ja dizia jeff buckley: "My main music influences? Love, anger, depression, joy... And Zeppelin totally."
é tipo dizer que o seu é azul
Zeitlos, geht für mich fast immer.
Masterpiece. Such diverse sounds. No two songs are alike and there are zero skips.
Oh, I could try to be contrarian. But why bother?
I know this album inside out. I haven’t listened for years because I over did it. A couple years ago I finally learned to play black dog correctly. Led Zeppelin II will always be my favorite. I will be skipping Stairway. No desire to hear that again. 😂 This album is a masterpiece. I will never understand how they used odd times, and traditional instruments and made the rock album that’s everyone’s reference point. The sound and grooves of “when the levee breaks” are just legendary.
(6 estrellas)
Great album, some of their best work. Couple of averageish songs but the rest more than make up for them
Listened to the 180g vinyl reissue. So far ahead of its time compared to everything else I’ve heard from the list around then. Great drum mix, stellar songs.
Can't deny that this is great rock and roll. If you were ever a teenage boy (I was) there may be a specific kind of hard wiring of this music in your brain. There is a reason classic rock stations have played the shit out of this for FIFTY years.
Loistava levy kuten olettaa saattaa. Ei kuitenkaan Zeppelinin paras. 4,75/5.
personal rating: 9/10
I really like the first 4 songs but I fell asleep because i barely got any sleep the album was really nice other than that so I'm giving this a five stars
Sometimes you dont feel like Led Zep but when you do nothing hits quite like it.
I feel as though whether you love or hate Led Zeppelin or not hinges greatly on whether you love or can't stand Plant's voice. Thankfully, I love it; it accentuates the the rock and roll feel that Led Zeppelin helped push into the future with this album. Seeing that this was released in 1971, it is years ahead of it's time, making the rock scene of the 80s look like a cheap imitation. My musical vocabulary in still in the gutter, so unfortunately cannot begin, with any tact, to describe what I loved so much about this album and each of it's songs. "Black Dog", "Stairway to Heaven" and "Going to California" were my favourites here. Simply an incredible and important rock album.
Amazing album, I feel like Stairway to Heaven is THE rock song when you think about rock songs. I also love that Robert Plant is a Tolkien nerd.
This isn't my favorite Zeppelin album, and I am a victim of too much Stairway to Heaven as a teenager, but it's still a perfect album. Genre hoping, acoustic prowess, hard as shit rock and roll, and Tolkien, glorious Tolkien references abound. Ending with When the Levee Breaks is so badass.
LMFAO Led Zeppelin 2 days in a row, what are the odds (approximately 0.001%, I should buy a lottery ticket). Sorry folks, I hope I am wrong but I historically do not like Led Zeppelin as much as mos of you do. Led_Zeppelin_apology_form.pdf Yeah this rips, its really, really, good. I am so happy to be proven wrong. For whatever reason this is the first Zeppelin album I've listened to where Plant's voice doesn't make me want to punch my eardrums out. 5/5
Led Zeppelin V
Even if Stairway is overrated, this is still the best Zep album.
Masterpiece
Perfect, brilliant, magnificent rock.
Lowkey mythological.
Definitely a 5 for me.
I went through a HUGE Zeppelin phase back in college and ended up kind of burning myself out on them, so it's tough to try and listen to this with fresh ears, but even so, it's insane how stacked this album is. An easy 5/5.
A classic from beginning to end. First Zeppelin album I bought, still play it endlessly now.
Iconic band, iconic record. Four Sticks is the worst song & it's a banger. 1000/5
Epic
One of the easiest 5 star ratings out there. A stone cold classic full of stone cold classics.
Deserves this rating for stairway to heaven alone
Buddy in college got a record player and the first 3 albums he had were Rumors, The Chronic and Led Zeppelin IV. This one got a lot of run time (they all did to be fair). When the Levee Breaks is arguably my favorite Zeppelin song.
We're not worthy!!! No skip, even the non-big hits are still fantastic.
I wonder if these guys knew they were cooking when they made this. Immaculate tracks, immaculate track order.
Z E P P E L I N
I already know I love this album so easy *****
Fantastic album, not a single song I'd remove. Almost every song on this album is still well known today
Easy 5 star album, their best of the original run. Possibly their best album, I need to go listen to the rest of discography
Klasyk
Amazing front to back no skips
Just wonderful
I mean, c’mon.
Perfect album
Just classic. Know these tunes too well to not respect everything they have done for music.
One of the best albums ever made. From the opening "Black Dog" to the closing "When the Levee Breaks", this album is full of greatness. For people of my generation, there's the obvious anthem "Stairway to Heaven", but let's not forget "Rock and Roll", and "Going to California", plus "The Battle of Evermore" with Sandy Denny's beautiful vocals. My only question is why wasn't this in the top 1001?
Classic, forgot how good it was
Has my favorite LZ song, The Battle of Evermore.
An absolute masterpiece and it’s hard to argue otherwise. So many huge hits including Black Dog, Levee, and possibly one of the greatest songs ever written- Stairway to Heaven. A true must listen. Brilliance.
more legendary songs than not
One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite bands, and containing two of my favorite songs by them? Yeah, this is going to be up there. The two songs I am referring to are Going to California and When the Levee Breaks. They close out the album together and showcase one of the reasons it's so good: they are incredibly different in tone, content, feel, and composition. That trend is prevalent on the album; there are the hard rockers (Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Four Sticks, Levee), a folky epic (Battle of Evermore, though Levee fits this a bit too), a poppier groove track (Misty Mountain Hop), the soft, lamenting ballad (Going to California), and, of course, the track that contains pretty much all of those genres in one song (Stairway to Heaven). The listen is a journey, and Led Zeppelin is the unmistakable guide. From the start, the album grabs your attention. The intro to Black Dog barrels in like a freight train. Before you can know what hit you, Rock and Roll starts and gets your feet tapping. Things slow down with Evermore, then slowly build and build back to ramped up by the end of Stairway. Somehow, side one is now over, and you are greeted by the fun that comes from Misty Mountain Hop. Four Sticks comes back with musical force, then we get to the end songs I mentioned as my favorites. What a way to end an album. The powerful drums on Levee stay with you long after the music stops playing. That isn't to say this album doesn't have flaws. I don't really love Evermore as a song, and it's my least favorite track on the album. Rock and Roll is OK at best to me. I also don't think this album shows Plant at his most effective as a vocalist. And, as much as I love Levee, I can't give the band full credit when it's really only their rock rendition of an older blues song. Other than those minor qualms, though, I feel like most criticism I see for LZIV stems from just how much love and attention this album (and it's songs) get more than it actually lacking in quality. Obviously, I'm a bit biased. I have this album on vinyl and made sure to listen to it that way when I saw it come up on here. I feel like I could add so much more than I have, but I've typed a book already. Simply put, this is an all-time great album. Overall: 4.9/5
I don't know what the highest rated album on here is but this is so far above the average. If I had to guess, I'd say the average rating is just below 2.5
No skips
I wouldn’t say rock is a genre I normally gravitate to, but this was extremely listenable. I enjoyed all the different moods. I really physically felt the performances through my headphones in a way that I don’t think I’ve felt with other music before. I’m not sure what the term is for that, if it’s the production or the mix or what, but it was awesome. 4.5/5
I will never stop loving rock music. Discovered When the Levee Breaks and I am obsessed with the sound.
What can you say? One of the greatest rock albums of all time.
What can you say that hasn't already been said.
1971. Their best selling album. Inner sleeve has 4 hand drawn symbols that each represent a band member.
Somehow better than I remember
more led zeppelin! these guys wanna let the music speak for itself, and simply put this album is probably their greatest. this album is great. it has every sample of the rock music spectrum in one record. every minute, every second of this album is crafted and performed in such a way that no other person could probably ever match again. it's one of those rock albums where anyone could turn it on and enjoy it... at least if you're not a bible-thumper that thinks "stairway to heaven" is actually a gateway for demons to come out of the speakers.
О!!! Так))) Без коментарів)))
Pointless writing much about this one as I don't really have any unique insights to give. It's all been said before. There's a reason why it's considered a classic - because it's bloody good!
Better than coldplAy
Favorite Zep album. I can’t say anything that hasn’t been said.
El mejor disco de led zeppelin
All time faves. It's perfectly balanced, for every stairway to heaven you get a black dog. Everywhere you look is a new Lord of the rings reference. Every song is unique. It's impeccable
This is an all time classic rock album. One of the rare legendary rock albums that lives up to its reputation. When I first listened to it in high school, I was all about side one. Side two seemed much less interesting. Now, I don't want to listen to this album very much, but Black Dog holds up as an excellent song of its kind. And Rock n Roll is still exciting. But the songs I still really enjoy are Going to California and most of all, When the Levee Breaks. That one is still a truly great song for me. On Apple music, and presumably also on Spotify, there is a deluxe edition with one alternate version of each song. They're pretty good and worth a listen.
Led Zeppelin IV... Stairway to Heaven. The song that must have been meaningful to slow-dancing kids at middle school prom at some point--maybe just a few years before I was wishing I was slow dancing at my middle school prom. An embarrassing song, just a few years later; and a few years after that, a rock and roll banger, once you got past the whole acoustic intro. Which lasted stupid long. Jack White did shots of Zeppelin before writing most of his early White Stripes stuff. And more power to him. Greta Van Fleet put Zeppelin in their AI Magic 8-Ball, shook it up, and plopped out some near copies of the masters' work. Zeppelin had enough energy and innovation to power three big bands, and countless smaller ones. "When The Levee Breaks" is still a giant, serpentine OM for my suburban heart. I crank it up and let the electricity burn off my anxiety. I still feel that Zeppelin channeled an archetypal masculinity that forms a priceless whole-body Elusinian Mystery for the young soul... if you can love this fierce, bellowing energy, can you ride this energy, and let it burn away all your quibbles and cynicism? Can you let it ride you? It's not just the braying of some pre-feminist, mildly white supremist assholes. Its much bigger than that, and way more fun. Zeppelin soars above all the rivals of their day, and all of the pretenders of our era. Zeppelin IV is truly one of the greatest rock/pop albums of all time.
I'm absolutely shocked that I love this album as much as I did. I've never really been into Led Zeppelin but this really resonated with me and fit perfectly with my mood. I love how each song sounds so different but still carries their sound. This had me wishing I had a much better way to listen to music other than a Bluetooth speaker for my phone.
Classic!
What can you say, seminal but in my opinion the best was yet to come.
As near to a perfect hard rock album as you can get. No notes. Favorite track: When the Levee Breaks
Love the guitar work, the blues influence that permeates, and the unusual chords that you don't often hear in imitators. The soft songs are also great, folksy and bluesy. Just all-around incredible.
Pretty hard to argue with this absolute banger.
I mean, HE'S iconic, this ALBUM'S iconic, STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN is iconic, I feel like a can't not give it a five.
Hard rock, folk, blues rock.
Pretty bulletproof collection of songs I like all of them there’s a reason why this is always cranked on classic rock radio because it rocks dude
One of the best albums ever. I Listened to it again with good headphones just like I did as a teenager. Loud!
FUCK YEAH
Forgot how good this one was
There are so many classic songs on here, it's hard to say I don't like it. I think they're a little overplayed, but they still hit the same. Going to California has a special place in my heart, though.
It is the quintessential rock 'n' roll album
9.5/10
A low 5 for me. Some massive hits - great track to finish on.
Classic for a reason
Classic album with some big hitters
I think Led Zep IV is a solid 5, i’m glad i got into this as a teen as it remains completely iconic to me even in a genre that’s not often my bag
📀
A classic from one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Not much else to say!
I mean it’s Led Zeppelin iv
An overheard classic, but it still deserves its 5
Led Zeppelin IV is the definition of a legendary rock album. We just can't doubt that.
"Oh, it's cliche and overplayed." Yeah, it's cliche because everybody under the sun copied it and it's overplayed because it's fucking awesome.
Standouts Black Dog Rock and Roll The Battle of Evermore Stairway to Heaven Misty Mountain Hop Going to California When the Levee Breaks
Yeah!!!!!
This is the second most played Led Zeppelin album on my record player. Great album with no skips. Love it!
4.5
Still crazy good. Absolute hit after hit.
This has got to be the #2 album on this list (after Abbey Road), right? This is Zeppelin's best album and I love it.
un álbum increíble, de los mejores que escuché y capas el mejor de rock, no falla en ninguna canción. jimmy Page es un animal con la guitarra
Led Zeppelin just rocks. 5/5
it'd be silly not to give this anything but a 5. Its awesome all the way through.
Not a single bad song. 5 stars
Unbelievably iconic, full of hits, and just plain badass. Anything this jam-packed with so many chart-toppers and this relevant decades later is worth five stars!
Vraiment incroyable, et Stairway to Heaven n’est pas surcôtée quoi qu’en disent les mécréants
Rock and roll baby
Seldom a record with one of the best songs to be written to fail to overshadow the rest, So seldom that this is the only record I can think of such an occurrence.
Do you really need me to glaze this album? Do you have functioning ears? Easy 5/5. If you think otherwise, I'm sorry your dad didn't raise you on rock n' roll. Side Note: The first time I ate Magic Mushrooms, I put The Song Remains the Same on the TV and cranked the volume to max and had an AMAZING time. 10/10 would trip again.
Amazing. The purest rock version
This may have been my first Zep album and it's a classic! I'm always amused at memories of when Stairway To Heaven was played at high school dances. Slow dances were often the highlight of the night for teens hungry for the touch of whomever was the object of their affection. The song started out as a great slow dance but as the song progressed, it just kept getting faster and harder leaving the dancers with the dilemma of what to do. Break apart at some point? Stay the course and tough it through? "I wonder what he/she wants to do?" This is easily one of Led Zeppelin's best if not THE best album.
Ultimate. Top of the heap. Unimpeachable. Just flat-out great. It’s absolute kismet that this is my 1089th album. I’ve waited so long to get here.
Houses of the Holy is still their best album
Absolute classic! This album is packed with hits, amazing melodies, memorable guitar riffs, great bass lines and incredible drums. Everyone was at their peak on this record. Jimmy Page had some of the best and most memorable solos ever, John Paul Jones just dug into that bass, John Bonham was pounding those drums - god he is an insane drummer, one of the best ever when it comes to techinque - and Robert Plant is just out of this world. This is probably the best classic rock album of all time!
The best!
Soooo fucking goooood!!!!
I didn’t want to give this 5 stars but I’m gonna have to, damn
Classic, some songs too known, almost corny, but overall whoaa
I was never much of a Zep fan growing up but if anything deserves 5 stars and to be on this list, it’s this album. Some great songs, a terrific mix of styles and tempos, and some excellent playing.
A triumphant, monumental classic rock album. Led Zeppelin IV takes all of the sounds from the band's first 3 albums and combines them into 8 masterful tracks. You probably have heard many of these songs but even the lesser known tracks like Four Sticks are incredible. Album goes from hard rock to LOTR-inspired mandolin ballads to stadium anthems seamlessly. The album ends with When the Levee Breaks which might be Zeppelin's best song. Favorite tracks: Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, Going to California, When the Levee Breaks.
Is it in my own "desert island" Top 10 list. No, not really. Does it deserve to be in the Top 10 ever - yeah, I think it does. So good, I listened to it twice back-to-back. I can only imagine how much the world changed purely from 5:50 onwards in Stairway to Heaven.........
Like, it's Led Zeppelin IV. Easily one of the greatest albums of all time. The only thing I can add to the discussion is that nobody ever talks about how well this album flows. Song order is really a lost art.
What can I say? It’s trash
Great album. Love even Four Sticks
The greatest
Culte
When the Levee Breaks is also a masterpiece...
It has been said many a time that this album is the greatest rock album of all time. True or not, this is at least Led Zeppelin at their very best. It rolls seamlessly from harder rock songs ("Black Dog"), to epics ("Stairway to Heaven") to the introspective "Going to California". Not much else needs to be said...
Masterpiece
This is the rock album I judge all other rock albums by.
Excellent
5
Yeah okay this is an amazing album Fav songs: The Battle of Evermore, Stairway to Heaven, Rock and Roll
Instant classic
great album
a classic
If I gave this under a five, I would have never been born. Spins: All Day Playlist Additions: - All The Songs
Nydelig album, må vende seg litt til de låtene som ikke er så kjente, men når det først er gjort…
Listens: 5 Standout Tracks: Black Dog, Stairway To Heaven, Going To California Waffling between a 4 and a 5. It's short. It's really sweet. Stairway To Heaven is a complete face-melter and still especially excellent. I think the thing that surprised me was how mellow and chill the album can be, and at the same time, extra heavy at certain parts. I think like Ozzy's Paranoid is an apt comparison. Paranoid into Planet Caravan into Iron Man for example. There's a lot of that going on in Led Zeppelin IV. Even in just Stairway To Heaven you've got the three "acts" with each subsequent act being more and more high energy. And then, whenever I do actually listen to Stairway To Heaven, I eventually need to switch over to Tenacious D's Tribute, to give tribute to the greatest song ever made.
I grew up in the '70s. Led Zeppelin and all the other hard rock classic rock bands are ingrained in my DNA. So much so that I'm completely sick of it and never ever reach for a classic rock album. But then I find myself pressing play on led Zeppelin IV because it's part of my journey on this 1001 album project. And I can't fucking stop listening. I thought I was sick of every note of this album, but I can't deny that I love every note of it.
It has excellent variety, riffs and melody. I am particularly fond of the Battle of Evermore, Black Dog, and When the Levee Breaks. Stairway to Heaven is clearly fantastic, even if it has been lessened by ubiquity.
Massively overplayed but my god, the drums are so in your face across every single song, I’m hard pressed to name an album that showcases the power of them better. The battle of evermore is a wonderful celebration of the mandolin as an instrument that rarely gets the kudos it deserves, whilst having the storytelling of plant wailing behind it. I’m sure the vocals would put people off (it does border on a bit too much at times) but somehow doesn’t overshadow the instrumentation. ‘When the levee’ breaks is what blues could be, and is where this takes its inspiration from unabashed, yet adds this dynamism that traditional blues music can’t carry.
god i fucking love this album. what a damn classic. every single song no skip and they're all so dynamically different just an incredible album. RIP Bonham
Going to California must be one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs
Iconic.
259/1001 :: Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV Heard before? ✅ Would I revisit? ✅ Rating: 9 Listen before you die: Uh Yeah It's literally one of the most important albums in rock n roll history. Overplayed, maybe but don't let that fool you... If this isn't 5 stars I don't know what is. Should also be noted it has When The Levee Breaks and Going to California. So, yeah it's damn good...
Okay, I’m not a Zep fan but this album objectively whips ass.
I mean come one. What else is there to say. The best, most iconic album by arguably the best, most iconic band of all time. There has already been countless real and virtual ink spilled by countless people more informed and better written then anything I could write. Just add this to the pile. One of the easiest 10/10s here
Amo cada musica, mas me arrepio sempre com Stairway to Heaven e When the Leeve Breaks 5/5
Gold 5/5!
I was pretty harsh on Led Zeppelin I, and said at the time that it didn't hold up to III and IV. I wasn't wrong. At the risk of sounding like an lame old Dad or something, Led Zeppelin IV has to be one of the greatest albums ever made. It's just genuinely good, start to finish. I tend to think of it as old and boring, and think that I'm sick of hearing it... until I put it on - and then boy does it hold up.
A classic. Always good to listen again.
Das isch no Musig gsi!
So many great songs here.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Hands down.
Probably has a claim on being the best album ever. Absolutely classic.
Does this album even need a review? With the possible exception of Sabbath's 'Paranoid', this album probably inspired more heavy metal bands than any other. Led Zeppelin were at the top of their game at this point. They had already released three albums that are generally considered to be among the best that rock music has to offer, so it was no surprise that this one was an absolute smash. What their fourth release did was take the heavy blues of their first two and mix it with the folk influences of their third, creating one of their most unique and diverse outputs yet. You've got your hard rockers like the classic "Black Dog" and "Rock and Roll", the thundering heavy blues of "When the Levee Breaks", and the softer folk music of "The Battle of Evermore" and "Going to California". Of course this album is probably best known for the epic "Stairway to Heaven", which has become one of the most revered and overplayed rock songs ever created (look at any "best rock songs" list and it'll usually be at or near the top). "Misty Mountain Hop" and "Four Sticks" fill out the rest of the album, and they might actually be two of my favorites as they're not brought up quite as much as the others, particularly the latter with its somewhat raga rock inspired sound. Some albums out there that get this much reverence come off as a bit overrated, but this one deserves all the love that it gets. Led Zeppelin truly were one of the most diverse and original sounding bands out there, and 'IV' is an absolute masterpiece.
Loved this album. How many hits can come from one album?!
This record feels baked into the sounds of rock and roll for the last 50 years. Canon.
One the greatest ever!
Absolute classic
Fuck. Yes. Really good stuff here. Don't really have much to say about this one. 5/5
This is Zeppelin at their best.
💛💛💛💛💛
Not the biggest Zeppelin guy, but I do own a copy of this masterpiece. The pinnacle of 70’s classic rock. All killer. No filler.
Clássico do começo ao fim. Uma ode ao rock!!!
This was a fun one. I have never listened to this all the way through and I really liked it. Stairway to Heaven and Going to California are obviously masterpieces and it was a treat to listen to them. No wonder these guys are considered to be one of the greats. Big fan
Probably my favourite Led Zeppelin album, simply because it has so many of their hits. "Going To California" is a little less well-known than some of the other songs on Led Zeppelin IV, but one of the best. Interesting reflection on chasing dreams and one's expectations.
I feel like I have no choice but to give this a 5/5. It may not be my personal favourite rock album, but it is objectively one of the best of all time. All of the tracks are pretty excellent. My faves are Stairway to Heaven, Going to California, and Misty Mountain Hop.
Solid as hell, unsure where it stands next to Zeppelin 2, I think i might have enjoyed that one overall slightly more? Hard to say though will have to go re-listen. Song 2 and 5 were not great if im being honest (Rock n Roll, and Misty Mountain Hop) they felt like kinda generic rock songs that didnt have anything special going for them. However the rest of the songs did. Especially Stairway... love that song, how it builds is just so pleasing. Rest of the album is perfect... Im gonna round up to 5 stars just for stairway to heaven, but Id give it a 4.5/5 due to the album dropping off (for me personally) for a quarter of the album. 8.5/10
Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background I first listened to this on my first out of state trip without the family....to California no less. Launched a love of Zeppelin and was a foundational pillar of my developing musical tastes as a teenager.
Très bon album, du plaisir pris sur chaque titre. En revanche Stairway... surcoté ?
such an epic album man there’s nothing like it
I've listened to this album so many times, and it's still great. I know everyone else is tired of Stairway to Heaven, but it's such a spectacular song and was a big part of my childhood (it was played at every school dance). But my favorite from the album is their rendition of Memphis Minnie's "When the Levee Breaks." The composition of the song, from the drums to the bass and guitar and Plant's singing make this a true gem. Play it LOUD for best effect.
9 - EXCELLENT
Great album. Interesting how each song has its own identity. From blues rock, to folk, hard rock,... A classic album by one of the most influential bands in rock history.
Top 3: 1. Stairway to Heaven 2. The Battle of Evermore 3. When the Levee Breaks
Fantastico! Simply a masterpiece of course and one of the best albums ever. Just banger after banger and was glad to listen to it again.
42 minutes of my life i would happily relive, there wasn't a track I didn't like
heavenly
Almost the definition of a classic album but for good reason. Stairway is still a great track and the sheer musicianship shines through, especially John Bonham’s drumming.
Шедевр
can this really be rated lower than 5?
Banger
Esse foi um dos primeiros álbuns de rock que eu ouvi e simplesmente me apaixonei. Comprei o cd e é incrível a experiência de ouvir este álbum.
Den ultimata rockskivan. Spännande och drivande trummor, variationsrik bas, helt otroliga gitarrer, akustiska och elektriska, vackra och hårda. Kanske världens bästa rockröst. En femma!
Discazo!
Did not expect that I would enjoy heavy metal and heavy rock this much. Might try other albums and artists from these genres
Você sabia: essa é a primeira vez que eu escuto um disco do Led???? Muito legal, entendi por quê vocês gostam tanto!
Classic. No notes.
5.5 - Legendary
Great album. Been listening to it all the way through for decades now. Worth it every time. I know it's cliche, but "Stairway" will forever be the favorite.
Masterpiece including the greatest song in the world
What is there to say that hasn't been said
Man that first half is just heavenly. And it doesn't really let up after that, but it is just impossible to beat the first half. Two of those first halves would have made it a 6/5, now it is just stuck at the perfect mark. 5/5
Can't overthink this too much here. It's a no skip album with one great track after another. One of my personal favorites to put on and listen to from start to end. A masterpiece through and through.
Even the weaker tracks on side 2 are great, would listen to any and all of this again quite happily
I consider this to be the greatest album of all time. Even The Battle of Evermore and Four Sticks, while not bangers give a good transition to tee up the greatness of the songs that follow. It is the gold standard.
(100/100)
Amazing album, Easy 5 star. Top 10 of all popular music.
Legendary + LOTR!
Top 3 Led Zeppelin, only behind Physical Graffiti and their debut. The best song here for me is When the Levee Breaks, with honestly the best drum sound of all time. Of course Stairway to Heaven is an amazing song with an outstanding guitar solo and the hits here are also great but other songs like Battle of Evermore and Misty Mountain Hop are extremely overlooked. This album is produced much more cleanly than the rest of their stuff they released and it's definitely a good change. It's their most "produced" album up to this point you could say which does make it more interesting and extremely enjoyable. There's really no misses on this album either. It has just as good instrumentation as any of their other works as well.
Flawless classic, debatable if it’s the best or my favorite led zep album. No deep cuts to be found, 8 huge songs. Hard to find albums of this caliber
What do you want say here about this album, which has not been said before. Everybody interested in music, who did not know the album, will find it extremely interesting - even if they won't like it. It's one of those albums which must be on this list - at least if you want to see this list as something meaningful about the history of pop/rock.
Gargantuan record. I feel like Black Dog fizzles out quickly after the opener, and Rock N Roll is relatively tame. Battle of Evermore is underrated, but its Stairway to Heaven that is justifiably the big draw for the album. I really don't think it's a stretch to say it's arguably one of the best songs ever created. This side A alone justifies inclusion on the list - this is a must listen to fully understand rock history. Side B is weaker, but Going to California is very strong. When the Levee Breaks is the other big draw, but feels a bit hollow when stripped from its original context and the direct influence of the 1927 flood to which the song is attributed.
There are only a handful of albums greater than Zepp IV, and no band greater than Led Zeppelin. From the groovines of Four Sticks and tenderness of Going to California, all the way to the raw power of When the Levee Breaks, this album has it all. Absolute masterpiece, singular presence in the world of rock and roll. Giants.
I'm not the biggest Zep fan but IV is a humongous record. It cannot be denied.
Does it take its time? Yes. Is it loosely a concept record? Kinda. Does it extend Led Zeppelin's penchant for colonizing blues? Sure, but less so than how it started, which is now well documented in its theft of material. What's inarguable is the quality of the arrangements and performances across the album. The Bonham drums are ferocious. The Jones bass is rock solid. The Plant vocal is soaring. The Page riffs are ringing. Also, one of the absolute best track sequences. Side A starts hot with odd rhythms, rides an arc, and finishes smooth. Side B starts hot with odd rhythms again, rides an arc, and finishes strong. Listening to just a couple tracks on their own misses the point.
This is the 2nd Led Zeppelin album I’ve had on the list, last time it was Led Zeppelin II which I ended up rounding up 4 stars but I don’t recall enjoying it as much as I had expected to, and perhaps that feeling is compounded by the fact I forgot that had listened to it, thinking this was the first album the list had dealt to me. Those lofty expectations weren’t met that day, but today, they absolutely were! For a first listen, a lot here was familiar, particularly Black Dog and Stairway to Heaven, but also I knew Battle of Evermore, covered on the Singles OST, and Going to California, for which LZ clearly used a time machine to rip off Given to Fly by Pearl Jam. In fact, I remember Jimmy Page giving an interview about how similar they were and he was so cool about it, no accusations of plagiarism at all, which seems refreshing. The album blends styles that sit together perfectly, occasioning blues, folk, metal and of course, rock. I’m having trouble picking my favourites, I could happily list half the album.
Insanely good immediately wanted to replay
The absolute best Zeppelin album. I didn't even need to relisten to know this is a 5, but I'll never pass up another excuse to do so Favorite Songs: Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, When the Levee Breaks
It has it all. 4 songs deep you have started on a heavy riff, then the fast pace of rock and roll then you get transported to a mystical land with its intricate plucking and haunting vocals. Then you land on Stairway to heaven for god's sake. It's ridiculous. Nothing weak on this album. It changes at just the right times to maximise engagement from start to finish. "Going to California" is an excellent example where they softly pluck plot their finale exit. The final song then ripples out in a focused roll of sound to close it out. Excellent in all regards.
What else is there to add to the narrative of one the best albums produced by one of the biggest rock bands ever? It's a great record that contains all of the quintessential elements of Led Zep; complex rhythms, catchy riffs, the classic vocals. To top it all off, this album contains one of the best songs ever recorded in popular music. Recent listening ranks this just a shade below Led Zeppelin II (even though this one has Sandy Denny) but it still stands a head and shoulders above most albums in this list.
Does anyone belt out “Baby” better than Robert Plant? I open to a fiery conversation with anyone who disagrees. This not only a fantastic rock album, it very well may be THE rock album. I’m not saying it’s my favourite album but holy shit does this rock. There is not miss here in the 43 minutes. Banger after banger, fantastic riffs, vocal shrills, rollicking drums, it’s pure and I really wish I was around to experience this live. I really do appreciate the inclusion of Going to California as well, it slows the mood a bit and is a beautiful song. Today was a good day, I ran thru this 3 times and I’m glad. 5 stars
Not the best the Zeppelin record but still great
Anyone reading the 1001 albums book has heard this album many times. This one is in the top few greatest, most important albums of all time.
It's like the album generator knew it had to reel me back after yesterday. This is one of the most without-a-doubt 5-star albums I've come across so far. If it wasn't for the slight hiccup on the first side with The Battle of Evermore, it would probably go down as the best side one of all time. And even still it's probably in the conversation. I'm not going to act like I know how influential the music is, or how masterful the lyrics are, but what I do know is every song had me singing along or banging my head or both, and if that's not an absolute win then I don't know what is. Highlights: Black Dog Rock and Roll Stairway to Heaven
actual magic
Love this album. Have it in my collection. Everything from straight up rock to folk and mysticism. Solid 5 stars. Fave track - Going to California, but could have been any of the others.
5/5
The greatest rock album of all time.
Great classic album
9/10
Masterpiece
I am here for hobbit rock
Not much to say here. The best album by one of the top 5 rock bands of all time with the most iconic rock song of all time.
This is a tough one. 4 or 5 stars? I mean it’s legendary, but I prefer other led zep records. I think it was just overplayed. Also it th biggest fan of battle of evermore. But then I got to the end and heard when the levee breaks. What a song. Thinking about all the shitty record that got threes this is absolutely a 5.
9.7/10
It's Led Zeppelin IV, Zoso, the symbols album, the one with "Stairway" on it. If there is one album that perfectly embodies the excesses and successes of bombastic '70s classic rock, this is the one, the last self-titled release by Led Zeppelin, a bold exclamation mark at the end of the first era of one of the biggest bands of all time. A brief note about mastering. Please try to seek out the files for the original CD pressing. The dynamic range is very different, and the resulting experience is significantly affected. This is how we hear the massive reverb in "The Battle of Evermore" and the warm organ and the space between the acoustic guitar layers in "Stairway." My favorite part of this remaster is how much easier it is to hear John Paul Jones's playing and the texture in bass tone. I have listened to this album hundreds of times, but this version noticeably improved my appreciation of the production details. Led Zeppelin III is my favorite of these early albums, but IV is still probably the best. It's epic and defies my attempts to describe it. These guys went hard and created a singular statement that could only be imitated from here on out. Five stars.
One of the best lyrical albums of it's time
9.5 / 10
This is real 5* album. Even if there wasn't Stairway to Heaven, which is absolute masterpiece and iconic song, love every second of it, it wolud be that perfect. The Battle of Evermore and Going to California are big standouts for me and to open album with Black dog and close it with When the Levee Breaks... It's just perfection.
The standard
Classic Rock & Roll album! Not a bad song on it. Stairway To Heaven, Rock and Roll, Black Dog, The Battle of Evermore and When The Levee Breaks lead the way.
CLASSIQUE 5/5
biennn
If you haven’t heard it yet, and you’re waffling on it, you might as well just listen to it so you can see what it’s like to live after you’ve heard Zeppelin IV
Great album. Have listened to it many times
17-yr-old Amber was blown away by this album and 40-yr-old Amber asserts confidently that it is one of humanity’s greatest artistic achievements. If you disagree, you should listen to it five more times.
One of the best albums of all time Need I say more
This album was a blast all the way through! Vocals, instrumentals, all of it was so great!
Each track just plays well. Black Dog really gives you a good idea of the type of album this is. STAIRWAY is the best song no doubt, it closes out the first half perfectly. Levee a California are some of the best songs Zep put out, Levee being I believe Bonzo’s best piece, with California being Jones best finger work. Plant really peaks on this album. I used to listen to this when I got my first record player back in sophomore year of high school, so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
Biased from the start, but this is one the great albums. Every song is not only widely popular, but personally resonant and fits in with Led Zeppelin’s overall tone. Beautiful, haunting, and catchy.
