Reviews (page 3 of 13)

Another album I’m familiar with. Haven’t listened to it front to back in a while though. Kind of the quintessential classic rock album. That hard rock sound that Zeppelin helped define, with some of their biggest songs. Arguably Led Zeppelin’s greatest album. It’s filled with great songs. Stairway to Heaven never gets old. Love there’s still an element of that lighter folk-ish sound with Battle of Evermore and Going to California. A really great classic rock album. One of my favorites and an easy re-listen. 5/5

Great!

Black Dog, When the levee breaks, Stairway to heaven is enough to give this album 5 stars but then all the other songs are varied, either rocking hard or delightful. Also going to California needs to be in more of there best song conversations it's so good. The fact this is not fighting for the top spot on the list is insane.

One of the best classic rock albums

I listened to this album while digging out a chunk in Minecraft and when one of the songs started I was like "Hey I've heard this one before" and I checked Spotify and it was Stairway to Heaven lmao. I wish I had heard the rest of the album before as well.

👍 It's Led Zepplin. Need I say more?

Excellent from start to finish, an incredible diversity of styles and sounds

no puedo creer lo que estoy escuchando puta que vale la pena estar viva uuuuu makes me wonder ლ(^o^ლ)

So many songs I didn't know were by them lol

This album broke the levee in my heart and let the water that are my emotions flood my body and soul.

Certified absolute banger (and mash). Easy 5 stars. Love this album.

One of the greatest and most iconic albums of all time, it would be a disservice to rate this below a 5. Just brilliant

The finest gift the British have ever given to the world.

One of the greatest albums of all time. Robert Plant’s genius as a vocalist can’t ever be overstated.

Hard to deny this is one of the best albums ever. Most of side 2 and all of side 1 are epic songs.

I know "Stairway to Heaven" is the song everyone points out as Led Zeppelin's masterpiece, but "When the Levee Breaks" is what really stands out on this album for me. "Rock and Roll" is really good, too. Great record start to finish, though.

Brilliant album, but I am biased and love almost everything they did. I have no opinion on which is their best album, but I can see why the list includes this one. The build up to each song, Page's brilliant guitars, Bonham and Jones with the most solid rhythm section, and Plant's irreplaceable vocals. Man, it's good.

In my high school days in the late 80s this is one of the rare albums that the rockers, jocks, preppies, and us weird alt kids, could all agree that is great. I haven't listened to this in 30 years and yup, still great. Five stars. Perhaps for nostalgia more than anything.

Classic album … not a huge fan but can’t really fault it

*listened before the project* I have nothing else to claim ^^

Such a good album! Not a single bad song! My favorites are obviously “Stairway to Heaven”, “Going to California”, and “Black Dog”.

AAAAAHHHH - stairway to heaven and going to california are some of the greatest songs ever - les guitar riffs, le range vocal de Robert Plant, les lyrics, l’aesthetic, tout y est - pas considéré un masterpiece pour rien

I’m not even a big Zeppelin fan, but this is a perfect album

The battle of evermore le poulet Gg

Imagine having Going to California, Stairway to Heaven and The battle of Evermore on the same record. Entirely made of amazing songs (except four sticks). First album I had already listened to, kinda want to put 4 (IV) but too good for that 4.75/5

The only track I didn’t recognize was Four Sticks. Everything else was classic after classic.

classic album enough said

Educated !

Most of the album is still in regular radio rotation and for good reason.

Liked some but got really repetitive Didn’t finish whole thing

Led Zeppelin's best!

Royalty

Geez Louise.

I mean, what is there to say. It's really good.

Day 143 Superb album 10/10 Highlights Stairway to Heaven Misty Mountain Hop When the Levee Breaks

Very likely the greatest album of all time.

There's not much you can really say about a classic of this magnitude that hasn't already been said. Say what you will about Zeppelin being "music thieves", this album shows them at their most versatile and adventurous. Even the standard rock numbers are excellent, and the ballads are peerless, including the monolithic "Stairway to Heaven". The more blues-inflected second side is earth-rattlingly heavy, yet manages to sound excellent. Simply a perfect album.

No words needed

Led Zeppelin is the best

Hell yeah

Truly incredible.

Ahhh my childhood

Great album!

Pretty incredible. Bold, energetic and pretty original songs that would pave the way for so many other legends. Production wasn't as perfect as some of the other all time great albums but also there is some unreal production (e.g. the Levee drums).

I just can't rate ANY Led Zeppelin album less than 5 stars, sorry, but not sorry...5/5

the fact that half of this album is still played in modern media today shows how fitting it is for a myriad of emotions and generations of people. I'm also convinced Greta Van Fleet is the only band to ever come close to this sound again and if you don't agree you can fight me.

10/5 You don't know zepp? Best album by them, hands down

Stairway to Heaven is one of those songs that can carry an album. I think I've outgrown Stairway to Heaven, but there are some still great other songs in there, and Led Zeppelin manages to never keep it too boring or noisy like in the other albums.

A classic album, every song just hits right. No bad tracks on the album, and some have ascended to legendary status (and infamy in guitar stores). Either way, what a crazy album to start with, one of my favorite bands still.

Legendary

o que falar sobre a minha banda favorita? o meu segundo álbum favorito deles (perdendo somente para physical graffiti). para mim, não tem uma música ruim, realmente o álbum é impecável.

One of the best albums I've heard about!

Classic album filled with great songs. If Stairway to Heaven wasn't enough on its own you have Black Dog, Rock & Roll and Going To California. When The Levee Breaks is also on here. Four Sticks, Battle of Evermore and Misty Mountain Hop probably star on other albums but here they are almost like fillers.

Awesome

Not my go-to band, but I can definitely appreciate the album’s value. Once I caught the wave and fully immersed myself in the music, being mindful of the era, it really grew on me.

I try to be critical of these albums where I can, but LZ4 really has no blindspots, and its runtime passes in the blink of an eye. 5/5

How have I already gotten two Led Zeppelin albums. LZ4 is obviously iconic, with their greatest song of all time. It’s hard to rank their albums for me. But this is a very close to perfect album. With ‘Black Dog’, ‘Stairway to Heaven’, ‘Misty Mountain Hop’, and ‘Going to California’. There are zero misses on this album.

shiii when the levee breaks brought me back to life.. and all the other goodies

Perfection, obviously.

Massive commercial and critical success. Deserves the endless, effusive praise it continually earns as successive generations of music lovers discover this classic. This album also introduced the band's now-iconic four emblems to the world, a decision led by art school dropout Jimmy Page. Each band member chose (or designed in Jimmy's and Robert's case) a symbol they felt represented them, a unique and fitting nod to their obsession with folklore and mythology that continued their use of striking visuals meant to evoke the mystical origins their music draws deep inspiration from. It was also an attempt at maintaining some semblance of anonymity that they surely struggled to uphold as their superstar status continually reinforced itself.

Led Zeppelin’s most iconic album and for good reason. Stairway to heaven AND going to California in one album?! Banger.

This is one of the first albums dad bought when we got a family CD player way back in 1995. I've heard it in-full many times since then and it still takes me back to my childhood, especially considering dad's all-time favourite song is Stairway. He would play it on repeat, revelling in joy and turning up the volume the moment it reached its epic hard-rock finale. There are many happy musical memories here. Family connection aside, it's just one of the all-time classics, isn't it? I can't fault it. This whole production is rock perfection.

Don't know whether this is their *masterpiece* or not, but it is certainly an all-timer. This is another of their albums that gets a little too Tolkein-brained for my taste, but I can overcome that because it just rocks so hard. In some ways, "Black Dog" and "Rock and Roll" almost feel like the same song or variations on a theme, but what a theme. "Stairway to Heaven" is played out, sure, but that solo and breakdown is so, so good. "When the Levee Breaks" is probably my favorite Zep song. The thunderous, driving drums, the feeling of looming catastrophe. There's no way they could have known it was the drum beat that would make a thousand samples decades later, but it's just perfect for it. The highs on this album (all the tracks except "The Battle of Evermore" and "Four Sticks") so massively outweigh the lows (the aforementioned tracks) that this a five-star for me.

An album I’m familiar with but still found songs I hadn’t heard. Great drums and vocals. Classic

Stone wall classic

The iconic LZIV—stairway to heaven was the first song I learned on any instrument and I share many special memories listening to it with friends and family. I’ve spent days at a time studying and experiencing songs like ‘When the Levee Breaks’, and I’ve spent months or even years looking at other songs and am still just outright confused at how something like this could ever be possible—such as songs like Going to California—that if I listen to with my eyes closed and really focus, I can pretend that I’m in a cabin in the poconos learning double drop d for the first time. Perfect album, one of the best of all time.

“Black Dog” is the best opening song in the Led Zeppelin catalog. Prove me wrong. This is the best Led Zeppelin album without question. The sequencing is unreal and the range is insane. You get raw, heavy rock like “Black Dog” and “Rock and Roll,” then it pivots into something more restrained but still intense with “The Battle of Evermore,” and of course the crown jewel, “Stairway to Heaven.” That song alone would cement the album’s legacy. Not everything lands perfectly for me. “Misty Mountain Hop” has great moments, but Plant’s vocals drift into whiny territory and pull me out of it at times. “Four Sticks” feels a bit generic by Zeppelin standards, especially surrounded by songs this strong. That said, the highs are so high they almost erase the flaws. The first half of the album is absolute perfection. The second half dips slightly, but never enough to derail the record. A timeless album that still sounds massive and confident decades later. It would be a perfect score if not for that small drop in the back half. 9.5 out of 10.

Le 3ème plus grand album de Led Zep, c'est pas rien.

The quintessential rock album of the 70’s. Perfection, from start to end. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Never been a fan. I am now. This is amazing.

Come on, who doesn’t love this album?!

Excellent album, and one of my favourites from Led Zeppelin.

The best! one of my all time favorites!

Banger after banger. Stairway to Heaven is for sure overplayed. But it got that reputation for a reason. I way over listened to that song in high school. But it has probably been over a decade since I have listened to it in full. And man, after such a long break it really hits again.

I mean what can I really say that hasn't already been said? This album has some of the best classic rock songs of all time. Both Black Dog and Rock and Roll are great jams, while Stairway to Heaven always gives me tingles. And the rest of the songs round everything out beautifully.

There's not much to say that hasn't already been said. It's pretty much a perfect album. Definitely in my top 5 if not the best.

Recent issues with lyrics and age old issues of mediocre reinterpretation not withstanding, it’s still a top album.

This one is a classic

I know it'd be sacrilege in some quarters not to give this a 5, and it is full of cracking rock tunes from start to finish, but I... actually do you know what? Five stars!

Perfect rock.

An album that became a turning point in my musical taste and in how I discover music. I will not add much to the endless commentary already written about Led Zeppelin IV, but it was a defining moment for me and one of those records that quietly reshapes how you listen.

It's Led Zeppelin IV, what more is there to say. This album was probably the gateway drug to a whole new type of music for millions of people over the decades. I know it was for me. MuchMusic (MTV but Canadian) used to play classic music videos after their Top 10 countdown every day. And on occasion they would play the Stairway to Heaven footage from Earl's Court 1975. Let me tell you, Robert Plant in that video was very impactful on teenage me's taste in men. I didn't really discover, and fall in love with, Led Zeppelin's discography for another decade, but the Golden God in a paisley blouse and tight jeans was seared into my memory. I also burst into tears when I heard Robert Plant perform When the Levee Breaks live in 2024. It's just so fucking cool.

loved it

I mean really how can it get much better. Just gets better and better with phenomenal tracks throughout.

Every teenage boy who doesn’t have a girlfriend yet discovers this album. Does it hold up years later? Absolutely. The medieval, renaissance fair, etc nonsense doesn’t hit anymore. But the music continues to be amazing. Sure Stairway is a cliche now, but it’s famous because it is so good.

One of the greatest Zeppelin albums. A force of nature indeed.

Killer rock album mixed with Lord of the Rings references in multiple songs. Good times.

Yes, it's a perfect record. Yes, it's got arguably the greatest song ever written on it. This record is absolutely essential listening for all. It has influenced everything since and will influence everything until the end of time. If you don't like this record, I don't know how to help you. And help you probably need.

Amazing classic. This is the kind of stuff my dad had showed me if he dared.

Another album I had already listened all the way through, and for good reason. This is a goddamn perfect classic album in every sense of the world Black dog and rock and roll are just absolute bangers to get you moving and dancing and grooving Battle of evermore has big fantasy hobbit vibes (“pick up your sword and ride” “the dark lord rides in force tonight”) One of my favorites on the album and his Rowling vocals on the end is so good Stairway to heaven is just stairway to heaven I don’t know what else to add to this absolute epic and grand song that has garnered enough attention and admiration to feel like a great tale passed down Misty mountain hop and four sticks are hidden bangers that aren’t talked about as much but it by no means feels like filler. The album closes with the poignant going to California and the blustering blues of when the levee breaks. Five stars all around, as perfect as you can get for an album

Love all Zeppelin albums. 3 & 4 are just Rock & Roll royalty. I mean I've probably listened to this one a thousand times and it never seizes to amaze.

Good (pretty) old rock. I guess it's energetic too. 5/5

I've heard this album so many times in my life, but for 1001 I decided to go in with no bias. Still a 5.

A classic.

I’m not the biggest Led Zeppelin fan, but this album definitely lives up to the hype.

There's been enough said about how great this record is, so I'll share a random thought I had while listening: It's INSANE how they pull off the jump between Stairway and Misty Mountain Hop. The tonal shift is extraordinarily jarring, but somehow it works. I imagine the experience was different back in the day because you'd have to flip the record over. But hearing those tracks back to back on streaming is wild.

What can you say about this record? It has to be on most people's top 10 ever.

classic blah blah blah, but I want to point out that When The Levee Breaks is one of the greatest songs of all time. pure drumming bliss

Best Song: Misty Mountain Hop When it comes to Led Zeppelin, their albums are a bit of an enigma. Each one is very different from the others and they are all out of this world. This is no exception, even though, of the Zeppelin catalogue, this is the one that is the most overplayed. But that isn't the fault of the band or the album. Every song is incredible and the entire album is a classic. 5/5.

yep it's great

Epic.timeless album that first time had guest musicians, and also had one cover.Let alone the famous ''Joni Mitchel' song.So many artists influenced by this one.If IV wasn't on this list then what?? Favourites: The Battle Of Evermore. This and Stairway To Heaven were the reasons i found out about this album back then.In this song we have guest singing by folk rock singer Sandy Denny(lead singer of Fairport Convention, and briefly of Fotheringay and also a solo artist). What a genius move. And what a band to write such a beautiful song.Time travells you in a medieval castle fighting against the Orcs. Stairway To Heaven. What more to say for their emblemating song?Guitar, flute everything about it is just magical. The sensivity in Robert Plant's singing is phenomenal for a guy with such loud range. And his lyrics..almost makes you cry.Epic. Four Sticks.'Till this very day i haven't heard anything like this. Going to California is a clear Joni Mitchell reference song as Plant had a huge crush on her.He wrote the lyrics to express his admiration, referring to her with lines like "a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair". He also included a clear reference to her song "I Had a King" in the line, "To find a queen without a king".Genius.The guitar and mandolin playing is alike with JM's.For the record she acknoledged this and she was touched by their public admiration, as they were among the few male artists to publicly express appreciation for her work at a time when it was often dismissed as a "women's artist" issue. When The Levee Breaks is a magnificent hard rock re-interpretation cover of the Memphis Minnie blues song.wow.Now i see Beastie Boys drumming influences and of so many other bands.Phenomenal.Watch out at the end for those reversed guitar fxs,so ahead of their time. Man i would have given 5 stars for the two big hits of this album alone, but i so loved it as a whole. As it should. 5/5

When I was younger, I used to say I didn't trust anyone who said they didn't like Led Zeppelin. I might have been right.

Brilliant!

Duh. This is the first Zeppelin album I owned and I listened to side 1 a million times. Took me a while to realize side 2 was also great!

Great Rock album with amazing depth and general sound. I love this album and I loved listening to it once again.

Black Dog and Rock & Roll are my two favourite Zeppelin songs so this kinda has to be a 5.

Rock ‘n Roll Gods

This album has a Sandy Denny (a huge loss) appearance. I am a big big fan of Fairport. Of course, growing up in the 70s, I've always loved Led Zeppelin. So that combo was made in heaven. Just a highlight of a great album. Has there been an easier rating? 5 infinity stones....

Going to California alone makes this a 5 for me

Amazing classixs

The result when four GOATs come together to make an album that would top the charts of Middle-Earth. Without a doubt one of the greatest albums of all time.

Classic! I had it on vinyl in the 70’s and just a few years ago I bought it on vinyl again when I started collecting vinyl again! I was right about to give up doing this daily listening if I got one more; proto-punk, punk, post- punk, pre-punk, punk-punk album! Sick of listen to records made by people who proudly didn’t bother to learn how to play their instruments! Then this came along —— the 1001 list gets a reprieve and lives another day!!! 5 stars

hard to review this one other than to say it is great. The main hits are great, but some of the lesser played songs (Going to California) are also quite fun

Not much to say about this one that hasn't been said, but a classic in every sense of the word. Each song (except for maybe Four Sticks) is timeless in its own right. Plant wailing, Page shredding, Bonham playing the ever-loving crap out of the drums, JPJ being the underrated glue guy holding it all together. Opens with an iconic acapella verse and ends with an iconic song that starts with one of the greatest and best-sounding drum beats ever. And a little song called Stairway to Heaven in the middle that is still great despite being played to death to the point it almost became a meme (thanks Wayne's World). One of the best albums ever.

YAAAAAASSSSS \m/

So many Great memories from my teenage years surrounding this amazing LP!

A classic. It’s on this list for a reason. May even be the #1. We will see!

It's excellent. There's no point going on about it because everything that needs to be said has already been said. Banging.

An all-time great.

Just a banger after banger. Great start to an album. Third track dragged a bit but not a bad recovery to have stairway to heaven in your back pocket!! I hope there is just one person in this project that has not heard that song before. What a beaut! And just a great album overall. Great flow, variety and feel. Does it get the illusion 5*?!

Absolutely can’t argue with the selection of vintage classic rock tracks on offer here.

My first album. Much love

Classic rock

Another one of the best

I don't think I've ever listened to Led Zeppelin IV front-to-back despite knowing songs from it, but it's pretty great from start to finish.

It just doesn't get much better than this. The best drumming you'll ever hear in rock music.

*excited noises* generally peak but there's one to one and a half songs that are not that good 5/5

Classic. Some epics sounds and a great blend of the heavy, the melodic, and the intricate.

Great band. One of the greats of rock and roll. Great songs.

1971. Zeplin will always be a power house of rock! This is their most withstanding and strong album. Powerful and emotional.

What is there to say that hasn't been said already? Take a band that's already one of the biggest acts in the world, with three near-perfect albums under their belt already. The year 1971, with some of the steepest competition of any point in musical history. And Led Zeppelin, man, they do it again. Eight banging tracks, most of which boast a general consensus of being essential classics in hard rock. Black Dog has that iconic opening line in the vocals, followed by one of the greatest riffs of all time, no exaggeration. It's fun to try and count out the time signature with the drums that don't quite match the guitar, an idea the band would revisit in Kashmir a few years later. The effect this song has on me is indescribable, but safe to say it's one of my all-time top head-bangers. Walking down the street with Black Dog in your headphones is a surefire way to give you some swagger. I have a fond memory from 10th grade music class, where I had to select a classic blues track to analyse. My dad suggested Rock and Roll (and rather urgently), but I stupidly rejected the idea after hearing it once. I was unhappy with how extended the 12-bar progression was. Only now do I understand its genius. Sure, it's not your typical blues track, but only because it takes the genre to an entirely new level. And it jams like nobody's business. One of Robert Plant's finest vocal performances, too. There are some fantastic live versions of Rock and Roll with an extended drum outro. God, I wish I was alive in the 70s. Stairway to Heaven needs no introduction. It's an incredible track (though not Led Zeppelin's best. In fact, it's not even the best on the album, since Black Dog exists). Going To California might be the most vulnerable the band gets with their sound, rivalled only by Thank You and The Rain Song. It's one of their simpler tracks musically, though the acoustic guitar part is by no means easy to perform. The "seems that the wrath of the gods" section is maybe a tad jarring on a first listen, but man, it's so emotionally charged. Keeps you paying attention, too. When The Levee Breaks is defined by its thunderous drum part, and it's, well, excellent. Conjures some imagery of broken dams and death and destruction. Even the intermediary tracks are some of Led Zeppelin's finest. The Battle of Evermore is insanely good, and a bit of a grower track. The combo of acoustic guitar and mandolin creates a sort of "fairylike" atmosphere. Plant's angelic, echoey singing does wonders. Misty Mountain Hop and Four Sticks are known primarily for their riffs and (in the latter's case) 5/4 time signature. Just great, classic Led Zep. They'd easily be highlights of most other bands' discographies. And yet it's debateable whether this even top's Led Zeppelin's own repertoire. LZ1, 2, 3, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti all have strong cases for them topping the list. Holy heck, this band is good. 5/5 Key tracks: Black Dog, Rock and Roll, The Battle of Evermore, Stairway To Heaven, Going To California, When The Levee Breaks

this is THE definitive rock & roll album

No controversy or prolonged decision making here. Not my favorite album of theirs but deserving of top marks all the same. 5/5

Classic album, every song is a banger

Not much to say, a fkn masterpiece!

This is easily one of the greatest records I have ever listened to. This album, especially given the context and time period under which it was written, is one of the most pronounced demonstrations of sheer musicianship that Led Zeppelin, and quite frankly, any other rock band of its kind had ever produced. This record is also such a pillar for the rock music we continue to enjoy today. An absolute gem.

absolute goat rock album. every song was thoroughly enjoyable in its own way. there's a reason these songs are still so well known over 50 years later. standout tracks: the battle of evermore, stairway to heaven, four sticks

Masterpiece, favorite heavy metal Black dog Rock and roll Stairway to heaven

As the proud companion of a black dog this is as rock as it gets.

A near perfect album and one of my all time faves. It hits all the right spots for me...perfect length focusing on quality of track over quantity, no one track drags down the rest of the album, a beautiful flow from track to track...this album is just a template for what rock albums should be.

...I mean, I DO think Stairway is extremely overrated, but in fairness to it, it would be pretty much impossible for ANYTHING to live up to THAT much hype. In a vacuum it's still a banger. Every song on here is a banger to at least some degree. Shoutout to Misty Mountain Hop for being the namesake of one of my family's dogs (we didn't name her that, she was called Misty before we got ahold of her) (still one of my favorite Zeppelin tracks) (entirely unrelated to the dog though. tbh I'm not that big of a dog person and I don't live at the family home anymore anyway). Shoutout to this whole album for being great for blasting on repeat above the background noise of industrial machinery (very long day in the lab yesterday, much improved by having something fun to listen to). 👍

Masterpiece!

That was honestly a fucking masterpiece of an album, I can't fault it. Stairway to heaven, however mainstream, was is and will be one of my favourite songs of all time. What an album... what an album... 4.9

If I could give this a 10 out of 5 stars I would. And if you don’t get why, then I have to say you probably don’t like Rock N Roll!

I mean what even is there to say? From the opening seconds this is one of the greatest albums of all time. And I say that as somewhat of a Zeppelin hater. Also, at 42 minutes not a second is wasted. Best tracks: Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, When the Levee Breaks

One of my all time favorites, beautiful record.

If you look up the definition of "stone cold classic", you'd find this album cover there as an example.

Classic. If I was a drummer, this might be the Holy Grail.

Fantastic.

GOAT rock album

There really isn't any need for me to listen to this album. It has been part of my life for more than 40 years. I will, though. 5/5

What a start.

Five for lord of the rings references

album still goes crazy every listen through

This is one we have on CD, and I used to listen to it while driving (back when cars had CD players). There are a couple tracks that are boring to me but overall it’s very good. This was rather hard rock for its time, though hearing it now it doesn’t seem that way. Widely considered the best Led Zeppelin album. An album with no title -rather unusual.

Excellent,Excellent. Listened to going to California before but the entire album is just perfection

This is the greatest album ever made.

Classic album. Every song a masterpiece!

First 5 star rating and well deserved. Classic after classic on this album. It’s overplayed but only because it should be. I’ll listen to this one many more times. Best song: Stairway to Heaven

Levee gon break

Classic. Reminds me of growing up

Does anything need to be said? A classic through and through.

Maybe the strongest finish to an album ever

Still remember the first time I heard "Black Dog". Still rocks

Best rock n roll album ever made

Album 30/1001 Led Zeppelin at the absolute peak of their powers, demonstrating here that they were masters of pretty much all forms of rock: hard, blues, mythic, folk, celtic, progressive, epic. Kudos, lads. 👏 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Favourite song: When the Levee Breaks 🌊 (best drum work and song intro ever?) Honourable mention: Stairway to Heaven 📶☁️ (best guitar solo ever?) Black Dog ◼️🐶 Rock and Roll 🎸🥁 Misty Mountain Hop 🌫🏔🤾‍♂️ Going to California 🛫🏖🌴

Have there ever been 8 better tracks put together? I don't think so. Easily one of the best albums ever made.

It's a fucking masterpiece. If you don't like this, rock music probably isn't your thing. It's Abbey Road or Dark Side Of The Moon gigantic in the culture. Required listening unless you hate rock music. 5/5

I will never tire of listening to Rock and Roll. Kicking things off with the drums and then the guitars sweeping in. Just perfection. Same goes for When the Levee Breaks. I think either of these songs could have been a better start to the album. The rest of the tracks are all solid don't get me wrong, but those two really stand out. And Stairway is... Stairway.

Classic

An incredible album from the start to the finish. I like pretty much all of the tracks on this record. Led Zeppelin 4 holds up to being one of the greatest rock albums in history. Easily a 5.

It's Zeppelin IV. Flawless no notes.

Great album so many classics and more diversity than their previous work

This is album is amazing because of how well all the songs flow together. Perfect combo of bluesy rock and progressive songwriting. The intro to Stairway kind of gets on my nerves though. Favorite songs: Black Dog, Battle of Evermore.

Hey hey momma, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove. It's at that point you're led into a masterpiece of 70s stadium rock. The album is varied and layered in dynamics and style. Musicianship is on point. There's really no lull throughout. Definitely my favorite Zeppelin album by far.

Top track: Battle Of Evermore (and Stairway, obviously!)

Before: I knew a lot of these songs individually. Black dog, rock and roll, going to California. But I've never heard them all together as an album. Looking forward to it. After: Yeah this album is great. Each track brings something totally new to the album and they all work together so well. This feels like such a huge moment in Rock and roll history.

If you play Stairway to Heaven backwards there is a satanic message that says this album deserves 5 stars.

There's quite a few 5 star albums, but there aren't a lot of perfect albums. This is a perfect album. LOL I had this downloaded to my phone already and could have wrote the review without listening to it today, but I love this album so much that I was stoked to give it another spin. I don't even know where to start.. what makes it perfect? Its probably the mix of super smart and creative songwriting, a British take on the delta blues, dark rock (pre metal) elements in the production. I love that take Tolkien lore and sing it with the blues, I love that when they do it, it create a world within each song. I love that somehow this can feel American and also old English medieval at the same time. I can listen to this at any time and I'll pick up on something else. I love that despite cool songwriting, world building, etc, they somehow threw in a Chuck Berry cover (Rock and Roll) that just makes perfect sense on the record. I was introduced to this record in probably 11th Grade? Its when I started playing the mandolin and someone told me about all of the cool mandolin tracks that Led played. (Battle of Evermore, Going to California.) I pretty hooked on it from that angle. I love Battle of Evermore because its straight out of Lord of the Rings. And then Going to California almost makes me cry. When Meg and I first started dating, I had just gone through a break up and Meg and I drove to California. So I always think about that when I listen to this song. Rock and Roll is such a fun cover, I used to listen to that when I started a skate session. And I still do listen to it when I hit up the pump track in my neighborhood. Black Dog, Four Sticks and When the Levee Breaks all just melt my brain. How do they get the blues so heavy?? Its loud and quite and sad and happy. Its every feeling in the entire world in those songs and they're all so fun. I lump them together because they're similar, but they're also extremely unique and nuanced from each other. Misty Mountain Hop -I listened to this a lot when I was backpacking through Iceland. All the Tolkien stuff just got me stoked to be in those mythical mountains. Stairway to Heaven?? Its a perfect song. Its one of the greatest songs ever written. Top 3 guitar solos of all time. Its perfect. I know I'm fan girl-ing this record hard now, but its just so good. I love this one. We're lucky to have it.

Zeppelin's best, which is a high bar to clear.

"Another no brainer Five star album... when i was 8 years old or so... i would hear the song "Black Dog" on the radio... and, to my young ears it was such a cool song... in my mind, i pictured an old, black (african-american), blues man... MUCH to my surprise, Led Zeppelin came to Tampa Stadium... touring the "Houses of the Holy" album, that came out a couple years later... the guy singing was... BLONDE... lol... up until then, Led Zeppelin, was Robert Johnson to me... hahaha... anyway, as i came of age, this was the band that really spoke to the testosterone raging within me... been a long time since i... Rock and Roll(ed) was blasting through the radio... this old black man was ON FIRE... lol... all the songs on this album are classics... especially "Going To California"... and "When The Levee Breaks"... but, the most unique song my young ears had ever heard on the radio, "Stairway To Heaven".... to hear it now, it's a bit of a bombastic, overplayed song... but at the time... it was the definition of EPIC... the way it started out, was unlike other hits on the radio... and as it continued into the epic jam at the end, it may have been the first extended jam, a very young yours truly had ever really heard on the radio... this song, and album... were best experienced then... unfortunatly for those who weren't there... fortunately though... this record exists, and is available for anyone from any era to listen... and they should... FIVE STARS..."

The last of the truly great Led Zeppelin albums. Once they started naming them, it seems like their mojo drained a bit on the next one. Or more probably, it has to do with Robert Plant losing his voice after IV. Basically everything on here is flawless or near flawless. Overtime I've grown to appreciate some of the deeper cuts more than the obvious hits like Stairway and Black Dog. And Rock n Roll was always one of their more average tracks for me. Misty Mountain Hop is amazing. Battle of Evermore. Four Sticks. Going to California. Clear 5/5. I just learned that Battle of Evermore's background female singer is from Fairport Convetion, which I discovered on this list. Just when you thought you knew everything about this album.

Esse aqui não tem nem oq falar, clássico, lendário

This is the album I put on when I need to feel like a badass. It's going on my wall btw.

A Black Dog 4 Rock And Roll 4 The Battle Of Evermore 5 Stairway To Heaven 5 Misty Mountain Hop 4 Four Sticks 3 Going To California 5 When The Levee Breaks 5 Maturing is realizing Zep 4 is their best album. You may go through a Zep 1 phase, a Zep 3 phase, maybe even Physical Graffiti when times really get tough. But eventually, you’ll come back to the best. Because it’s the best for a reason. When The Levee Breaks still my all time fave Zep song.

is this my favorite led zeppelin album? maybe, probably not, but maybe. is it the best led zeppelin album? yeah. i love led zeppelin, their music means a hell of a lot to me, and this is their pinnacle. i could be pretentious, but goddamn, this album is running on all cylinders. all 4 of them are churning unlike they ever have or ever will. the songs are killer. it's just a fucking great album. i mean the worst thing you could say is 3/8ths of this album is merely great, but not amazing. but the other 5/8ths are some of the best rock music put to tape.

5/5 was great

Not my favorite Zeppelin record but every track is incredible. The soundtrack of my high school years

Legendary album. No notes.

And the 5s have it

Love this album!

I think this is as close as Zeppelin gets to a perfect album. That doesn't make it their favorite album of mine, but damn. Still remember playing Stairway backwards on vinyl, shit gave me goosebumps.

One of the easier 5s I’ve given

One of the greatest albums of all time. Amazing drums, iconic guitar riffs. I always tell myself Stairway to Heaven is overrated, but then I listen to it again. Nope. It’s unbelievably good. Not only is there not a bad song on here, there isn’t a bad moment.

I’d give it ten stars. Not a bad song on the album.

Interesting to have listened to back to back with III. You can really hear the change in the music from a more folky bluesy sort of sound to a much harder rock. This style of rock was never my favourite, but I can appreciate the talent and influence of the band. Another album with not a bad track on it.

flawless

LZ1 was my very first album reviewed in this project. I’ve been waiting over 500 days for this one. Was it worth the wait? Ask the virgins that on their wedding night. Finally, yes! It’s in the running for greatest album of all time. Every song is perfect.

Easy 5

Led Zeppelin never made a bad album.

What can be said that hasn’t already been written. It’s widely considered Zeppelin’s masterpiece, regarding for its influence, range, and significance in popular and music culture and history. And it’s every bit as warranted. Landmark, masterpiece album.

If I don't give this fiver stars the my father in law will kill me. Jokes aside, not every song was my taste, but there are GOATs on here

Legendary album from a legendary band.

10/10/10

Amazing album. There's riffs, there's drum grooves, there's soaring vocals. It made me cry, it made me dance. Zeppelin at their best!

I get major nostalgic feelings when I listen to Stairway to Heaven. I still remember my dad showing it to me on a roadtrip to Georgia when I was 13. He raved about how it transitions mid-song from a 70s folk ballad to a true rock song with one of the best solos out there. I'll never forget him saying "these guys were considered pretty heavy rock for my day," which is a hilarious statement in retrospect. And you know what? I'm in my early 30s and I still think STH is a top 10 all-time song. That's saying something. This album is just one of the absolute classics: high and low dynamics, philosophical lyrics, and a combination of sounds and production styles that launched a thousand imitators. Pretty easy 5 for me.

Poco hay que decir de este disco. Todo en él es mítico. La cara A es inigualable, de principio a fin. La B, menos conocida, es de enorme calidad también. Amos del mundo y con toda la razón. De ahí no se puede subir más...

Classic - easy 5. Fav track When the Levee Breaks.

This feels like a collection of the ultimate blues-rock riffs. The quality is endless, the songs compact, the band tight. The fantastic but underrated Sandy Denny features. There's not a dud here. It's a seamless blues-rock, folk mash-up. I struggle to think of an album where every song is so well suited to the album, so compact and so to the point.

Great music

Oh such a fantastic album lol it's a classic for a reason!

I mean, come on. Every song a hit. One of the greatest albums of all time, with signature Zeppelin sound but not afraid to experiment a bit. Nothing but love for this album.

A classic!

Amazing album from start to finish. Hairway to Steven aw yeah. Love me some Zeppelin big dog.

A classic for a reason. A band while sure of themselves.

-----------------------------------------

Fantastic album....lots of folk and blues elements

This challenge has exposed me to a lot of Led Zeppelin. Now listening to my fifth and final one, I had to definitely admit that they were an incredible band (questionable personal lives aside...). This one didn't initially grab me in the same way as the others. I know "Black Dog" is one of their most famous and I get it but the disjointed nature of the song isn't my favorite. Compare it to something like "Immigrant Song" that knocks you out immediately. But boy does the album pick up from there. Plenty has been written about the individual songs but I'll focus only on the most well-known and the centerpiece of the entire album. "Stairway to Heaven" is often noted for it's length but this misses the point. There are plenty of long rock songs out there, but few manage to hold the listeners attention so perfectly. The movements are timed exactly right, the contrast of styles fits together, from Tolkien-esque to rock ballad to its massive rock n roll climax. It's no wonder it's so universally loved. I'm between 4 and 5 stars but that song alone is enough to tip the balance.

more of this, please

I owe it to my late father in law to give this 5 stars - it was one of his favourite albums of all time, so much so that "When the Levee Breaks" played at his funeral.

I was only four when Led Zeppelin IV first thundered into the world in 1971, but it found its way into my life through a reissue in 1981—one of the very first rock albums I ever bought. From the moment I dropped the needle on Black Dog, I was hooked. That slithering riff, Plant’s call-and-response vocals, and Bonham’s punchy groove felt like a jolt of electricity. It wasn’t just music—it was a revelation. Then came The Battle of Evermore, and Sandy Denny’s ethereal voice cast a spell. Her duet with Plant felt like stepping into a mythic world, ancient and mysterious. I remember being captivated by the contrast between the delicate mandolin and the haunting vocal interplay—it was unlike anything I’d heard before. Of course, Stairway to Heaven was the centerpiece. I pawed over the lyrics, line by line, determined to learn them by heart. It wasn’t just about memorizing words—it was about understanding the journey, the imagery, the emotion. That slow build to the explosive solo still gives me chills. And then When the Levee Breaks. Bonham’s drum sound—massive, cavernous, elemental—was like the heartbeat of the apocalypse. It’s still one of the most iconic drum recordings ever captured, and it closes the album with a sense of weight and finality that’s hard to shake. Even now, decades later, Led Zeppelin IV remains a cornerstone of my musical life. It’s not just a classic—it’s a part of my story. The album didn’t just introduce me to Led Zeppelin; it introduced me to the power of rock music as art, mythology, and raw emotion.

It's a 5/5 album. Don't know what else to say. Arguably a 6/5. One of the best albums of all-time. If not for Stairway to Heaven, it also has Going to California, and Black Dog, and Rock and Roll, and When the Levee Breaks, and Misty Mountain Hop, and Four Sticks, and Battle for Evermore.... That's the whole tracklist. Elite.

About as classic as it gets.

Is this the best album of all time? I don't know, but it's certainly in my top 5. What a thing of beauty. Everything that could be said about this album has already been said, there's not much for me to add. Just going to say that I absolutely love this album.

Don't have anything new to say. I sometimes get a little bored with led zep, but they're probably at their best here and ths songs are all undeniably classics.

10 out of 5.

Can't not give it a 5, if only for Stairway to Heaven. Yes we've all heard it so many times but it is an absolute highlight of rock music - almost a little symphony rather than a song. The other songs on the album are also perfectly decent. Nice and bluesy at times, full of energy, signature vocals and guitar.

Genius, if overplayed. An essential component of any collection. Play this music loud.

This is my favorite Led Zeppelin album. My ex had it; it was one of the only albums he owned that I would listen to all the way through. Battle of Evermore and Going to California are my favorites.

This is my favorite Led Zeppelin album. Not a bad song on the whole thing. However. “Stairway to Heaven” might be one of the most overplayed songs in the history of rock radio, but I digress. This albums shreds from beginning to end.

Zeppelin. Zeppelin IV. Say no more.

There is precisely one valid rating for this album

One of the best LZ albums

A genuine masterpiece.

It has it all

Definitely my favourite Zeppelin album, has a bit of all their best styles, class arrangements and just ludicrous performances. Going To California the highlight, and Misty Mountain Hop and Levee Breaks.ind hearing the latter in Niall Mcgarrigles house when I was 17, game changer. Amazing drum sound.

Classic

One of the best ever. Absolute classic in every way. Rock & Roll one of my favourite Zeppelin songs, and the rest of the album is a masterpiece.

Amazing!!

Peak rock n roll. Enough said

do you ever imagine what lord of the rings would have been like with this as a soundtrack?

Not as perfect as it may seem, but perfect for me.

One of the greatest albums of all time. Every song is a 5 out of 5 and the album flows perfectly.

Awesome!

Capolavoro assoluto.

If jet fuel became music… earth-shattering

All timer. Zeppelin's best record and the definitive 70's hard rock record.

Best rock drums

Classic.

Day605 - easily my favorite led zeppelin album stairway to heaven and going to california are two songs i just never get tired of

Before listening, this was already one of my favorite albums of all time. Going to California and When the Levee Breaks are all-time faves. Fun re-listen.

I had so much fun with this today. Jimmy page is a talented guy. I always heard people say that and I figured that they were talking about twiddling solo stuff that I'm not so crazy about, but he has really incredible aesthetic sensibilities. He just makes a ton of good choices throughout AND he groves with things incredible rhythm section. There are more hooks here than three (my favourite led zep) and it feels heavier and riffier. But the whole spectrum of led zep still seems to be on display. And Sandy deny! Who knew!

Love this album

As soon as I saw this, I knew it would be an easy 5 star. Stairway is a classic, and it's not even the best song on the album

So much has been said about this album, so I’ll keep it brief. I love it!

Finally a good eat

Damn fine album. I actually had it arrive on Vinyl this week! Not much else to say. Classic. How good is Robert Plant?!

One of the all times, a classic that never gets old

5/5. i’ve already listened to this album in its entirety, but it’s iconic so i’m not complaining. jimmy page killed it. favorite song: when the levee breaks

Has anyone ever rated this poorly? Led zeppelin is a drama queen, long build ups with fantastic pay offs in legendary rifts. 8 songs for 42 minutes? Basically a jam band of jam bands actually rocked.

Not much to say, some of the foundations of rock as we know it. And this is the first one I already had on vinyl! It got cranked.

Didn't think I was a Zeppelin fan. I have never listened to one of their albums from start to finish. This album was a revelation, strong tracks from start to end. Best ....Stairway to heaven ... .When the levee breaks .. .The battle of Evermore (Sandy Denny guesting on vocals and an acoustic guitar, a grat recipe for success)

This is all very good - writing, vocals, brilliant guitar work. "Staircase" alone is worthy of a five.

Couple of duds on here, but Black Dog, Rock and Roll, and obviously Stairway to Heaven more than make up for that!

Fair play. Tunes don’t get much bigger than Stairway to Heaven tbf. And the rest doesn’t disappoint. Simpsons: Yes

Easy 5. Great tunes.

A classic of my youth. I've listened to so many times in my life that it's hard to fully appreciate it anew, but still undeniable. Stairway and Black Dog were naturally some of the first songs I learned on guitar. Going to California still slays. Side B kind of slows down for me, and Houses of the Holy is still my favorite album to get the Led out, but c'mon people Stairway alone makes this a five-star album.

Brilliant

My least favorite of theirs (for obvious reasons) but a classic.

one of the best albums of all time!

All fun and no games

Led has been let, many times. Short and sweet

Likely the epitome of classic hard rock

How am I supposed to review this? More precisely, who am I to review this? I am but a mortal. Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. Seriously, it's like being asked to review a monolith. Did Moses review Mount Sinai afterwards? Do people review Uluru? 'Cause Uluru don't give a shit about your review, man, just like Page and Plant and Jones and Ghost Bonham don't give a shit, they don't have to, they already made their monument. Where were you when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? I mean, I guess the answer is wherever you are when you hear any of these eight tracks, so iconic that the band's shirts just list all the tracks in order on the back.

This album is as magnificent as the first time. From the nasty blues of “Black Dog” sending us up to the stratosphere, those vocals from Plant are amazing. The continued energy of “Rock And Roll” is great as well, the drums in particular are excellent. The next track is “Battle Of Evermore” - one thing I’ve always loved about Zeppelin is the mythological and fantastical elements in many of their songs - this one is one of the most overtly of that nature and the vocals are amazing and Page’s guitar sounds excellent. Then of course there’s Stairway. Look I genuinely couldn’t give less of a fuck, “oh Stairway’s overplayed” oh “stairway is overrated” I just don’t care this song has its reputation for a reason and I will stand on it being this record’s finest moment. How moves from this beautiful folk rock opening to an acoustic track and finally into bombarding hard rock makes it one of rock’s most true epics. That moment when the drums come in followed by Plant’s next verse is just heavenly, and that solo oh my god that solo. Side two opens with the electronic tinged and fantastical “Misty Mountain Hop” another great track. “Four Sticks” isn’t super good but the drum work is amazing and fully redeem the track. “Going To California” has the mystical vibe and is one of the most gorgeous vocals of Plant’s career. Then of course there’s “When The Levee Breaks” and excellent piece of epic blues rock, again huge praise for Plant’s voice Page’s guitar Bonham’s drums JPJ’s bass, honestly it’s hard to say something else here, this is an amazing album amazingly crafted and written by four amazing musicians at arguably the peak of their powers. This album’s reputation is fully earned

Classic - nothing more to say

An all-time great. Packed with great songs from beginning to end. The album has two main types of songs, hard rockers and slower, beautiful songs. They surprisingly don’t clash too much, and Stairway to Heaven combines both styles masterfully. Even though Stairway is overplayed and overrated, that doesn’t stop it from being amazing. My only complaint about Stairway is the penultimate line, “to be a rock and not to roll”, apparently it’s an ancient proverb, but it’s obviously because Zeppelin is a rock and roll band and they were trying to make it sound profound, but to me it just sounds stupid. Robert Plant’s delivery saves it, however. All 4 members play incredibly and the songwriting is consistently strong throughout. 5/5

I mean it is Led Zep IV.

An all time classic, there are weaker tracks but the good ones are timeless

Favourite tracks - Rock and Roll, Stairway to Heaven, When the Levee Breaks

Led Zeppelin have perfected an art of placing a beautiful pearl in the middle of their gritty hard rock oyster.

So this is obviously a five star album, no question about it, and maybe I should stop there. But... Maybe I've listened to this too many times now, but I rarely, if ever feel the need to listen to any of the songs from this album. This is definitely a good thing, as even Stairway to Heaven sounded relatively fresh when I played it today. However, it leaves me wondering why none of these tracks are ever on rotation. This is also that rare thing, an album with no filler, all eight tracks are superb played individually, and sit well next to each other without sounding too alike. But, for some reason, I wouldn't consider this as an album in my top ten, or even my top twenty for that matter.

16 year old me has to give this the rare elusive 5. It just wouldn't feel right not to. At this point in my life I don't listen to often, but there was a point where this was my life.

what is there even to say about this idk we should let more mordor fairies have instruments
