Reviews (page 3 of 11)
West coast hip hop gangsta rap. In the most positive way, this is the stereotypical west coast hip hop ever. It's got sexism, racism, homophobia, it's all about money and sex and drugs. But my god is it fun. The beats are way more intricate and layered than they need to be, every song is just so laid back and full of memorable lines. It's full of little skits and I am usually not into those, but here it just fits. Snoops sense of humor, his flow, and even just his voice are all so perfect it's a shame he never repeated the success of this album. Every song is great, it's just an overall super fun album, just don't go in expecting anything introspective or humble. Would love to listen again, wish I could cut out the skits. 4.5/5
The very definition of G-Funk, gangster rap. Hip hop at it's finest.
Unapologetically dumb. Unapologetically awesome.
Great album. Loved it. Beautiful Dr. Dre production, love snoop dogg, just love love. Love the radio station in the album, think it's hilarious. Murder was the case and Gz and Hustlas have been added to liked songs although that could've been the whole album. 5 stars.
Hell yeah this some real west coast gangster raps
Listened Before? Y Oh yes. This is a g-funk, gangsta rap time capsule. What an awesome album. Basically snoop's big debut solo album after he exploded on the scene on Dr. Dre's The Chronic. Absolute smoke, fire, and flow from beginning to end. Excellent writing and delivery, and actually somewhat of a concept album (at least the beginning). This is one of those rare albums I want to listen to again immediately after the first time. Awesome. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Murder Was The Case, Doggy Dogg World
One of my favorite rap albums of all time. Solid 5/5
Very good, really makes you feel like a gangsta Gin and juice goes hard
Bathtub was a weird way to start an album but then launched right into it with G funk intro which started the album off really strongly. Gin and juice was then SUPER catchy and ran into the shiznit in a wacky manner. The album then just kept coming and every track was equally interesting and enjoyable with stuff like murder was the case and Lodi Dodi. It seemed that a lot of fun was had making this album and it definitely shows. Awesome listen
I’m not a music nerd but the tracks were absolute ring dingers.
Remarkably definitive for a genre and a career. Unsure if Snoop ever reached this peak again.
Awesome and historic
solid shit, dawg. 5 stars.
Takes me back to my teenage days. A classic amongst drunk, partying tweeners! 5/5
Pretty solid album overall.
Hilarious, bizarre, catchy, original. Absolutely incredible album from start to finish. Nothing feels like filler either. Some hidden gems that get overshadowed by the bigger songs too
Classique parmi les classiques
Great vocals throughout.
fire asf wtf i love snoopp cant believe this is his first album
One of the hreats
5/5
Classic, Yes!
Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay.
favourite: gin and juice, gz and hustlas least favourite: classic mayb 9-10/10
Certified banger.
This album was a lot of fun. Many well known songs. There isn't a bad song on the album. I would definitely listen to it again.
Perfection
I love Snoop
Easy 5 starts from me
Big up Bernie Worrell
An absolute classic!
Some classic tracks that hold up, and crisp flows with complex but generally pretty clear to follow. Crazy to think this guy is selling home goods with Martha Stewart now and has a line of red wines.
I veered between a 4 and a 5.. I nearly knocked a point for it being a bit childish but settled on a 5 The highlight are the beats - Dre is in his absolute pomp as a producer. Pretty much any of the backing tracks could be a highlight on another album, they're that good Snoops rapping is completely effortless and although the drug and penis references are almost too much, his laid back style and sense of fun was so distinctive it created a real brand that's lasted to the present day. There are also some great hooks that give this mass appeal which is not always the case for gangster rap
I had this CD in highschool. Iconic! The George Clinton spoken intro is perfection. I love that Lady of Rage is actually the first one to drop bars on this album, and she destroys the G Funk Intro. Snoop just has the perfect voice for this, his flow sounds like tendrils of blunt smoke personified- so easy and smooth coasting along Dre's absolutely outrageous funky beats. Gin and Juice is a classic for a reason, this song is awesome. The Shiznit is such a crazy song - like there is jazz flute here, and the bass and drum are so huge. The Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick cover/tribute Lodi Dodi is hilarious - would've been funny if Dre tried to beat box, but instead he just supplies another eeeeezy beat. Murder Was The Case is so good. And then into Serial Killa bringing in the Dogg Pound - simply too hard. And then it's the single, Snoop Doggy Dooooooooogggg. The Atomic Dog bit, the insane bass, the unforgettable jingle. NINE TRIZZAY'S THE YIZZEAR. For All My N****z & My Bitches, is the Dogg Pound at it again, mostly Kurupt tearing it up here. Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None) features Nate Dogg singing about getting his balls licked. When I saw Snoop Dogg perform live, it was shortly after Nate Dogg died and they included this in a medley dedicated to him. People went nuts. Warren G just has the cutest voice, "just start juggling" makes me laugh every time. Chronic break - jokes, bong rips, Snoop's friend laughing his ass off. Doggy Dogg World - "You'se a flea, and I'm the Big Dogg/ I'll scratch you off my balls with my motherfuckin' paws" - Snoop's delivery never fails. The classroom intro to Gz and Hustlas, lol - and then that huge beat drop, so good. This beat gives me frisson, absolute banger. The original song the sample is taken from is "Haboglabotribin" by Bernard Wright - listen and marvel at how Dre turned that into this. Pump Pump is an odd closer - the chorus is lifted straight from a Dr Dre song and Mr Malik actually has the last verse on the album. It's still got a fat g-funk beat so it's fun to listen to. This album rules. I was worried that it wasn't going to hold up, but there were fewer skits than I remembered and content-wise it's pretty tame compared to some shit I've heard. Mostly, it's just Snoop and his crew smoking weed and talking shit with mad skill over some absolutely bruising beats.
Classic G-Funk, an all-time debut album.
Basically perfectly executed. 90s west coast hiphop at its smoothest.
G funky
Heerlijke 90s sound.
snoop's debut album and quite the debut at that. this dude was only 19 years old!! and here he is laying some ultra smooth rhythmic rhymes that's perfect for bumpin at a party or blasting in your car. i ain't even high. completely sober! and yet i feel that buzzzzzz. this album is the shiz. nit.
Good stuff
One of the calssic hip-hop albums,
Amazing album and can't believe this was his debut album. Classic Cali rap beats that is such a damn good listen.
Classic
Its iconic and I love it through and through. Peeking the 90's rap scene and establishing G Funk
Beat selection and production is immaculate - classic beats in pretty much every song. Snoop’s flow is so infectious but he’s akin to Brock Purdy for some of the songs - he is really good but the production is the real star; though he’s more than good enough to where he doesn’t detract from any of the other elements of the music. He’s perfect on Tha Shiznit though so I guess it’s more accurate to question his consistency more than anything else although he is far from even mediocre on any of the songs. Ain’t No Fun is so good Jesus. The back half of the album is fucking insane Will relisten but right now it’s a very strong 4.5/5 (if not a 5/5)- this is clearly a classic album and holds up extremely well today in terms of listen ability not so much for depth or lyrics (iykyk). I could replay every song at any time; there are absolutely no bad songs or anything other than great songs through this album.
Ziemlich funny
I love the G-funk sound and Snoop is so smooth. It's a classic of the genre. The lyrics are what they are. They don't bother me but I can see why others might object. This is an emphatic 5 from me.
One of the OG's! brought me back to the good days!
So good. A classic.
A masterpiece for the old style hip-hop, well documenting the vibe at the time.
Even the skits were relatively unobtrusive
Great
Listened Before? Yes Thankfully Snoop dropped the NFT nonsense and this is available again on Spotify. Classic hip-hop album from one of the most influential artists to enter the West Coast scene. Album takes its time getting started -- first with a skit, then a song called G Funk Intro that pulls in a smattering of supporting members over a stanky G-Funk beat. 4 minutes later we get into the meat with Gin and Juice, a certified banger fit for sing-alongs. Tha Shiznit opens with a pseudo radio-show interlude (W-BALZ) and drops right back into a meaty G-Funk sway. Peak Snoop on display with his distinctively effortless and buttery flow. He gets memed a lot these days for his association with weed, but songs like these remind how ruthless he was. Lodi Dodi is another classic track that affects a twisted whimsical beat and internally references the magic mirror from Snow White. Lots of little skits on here, but they really don't detract from the play IMO. Murder Was The Case is straight West Coast Gangsta rap. Serial Killa brings in the first credited support to the album. This is a posse cut for the Tha Dogpound and a pretty straight shooter of a track. Who Am I (What's My Name) is yet another rap classic. Dre, on the boards and playing some vocal support with an infectious bass-lead bet and otherwise beautiful production. This one plays much more as an anthem than Gin and Juice, and pales in comparison. Pump Pump is one of my favorites on here. Can't help but nod along. Love the skit into beat drop followed by silk smooth flow. This album rips front to back. Great classic west coast rap goodness from Snoop at his prime. Hard not to enjoy this one. Great for any setting: sanding drywall, backyard summer BBQ, baby shower, bris... the possibilities are endless. If I could give this a 4.5 I would, but instead it will get the nudge. Added to Library? Yes Songs added to playlists: - Gin and Juice (Sunny-vibes, Driving, Skate Mix)
The switch-up from Joan Baez to this is hilarious. Listened to this album so much growing up it'll probably be hard not to be biased. Really shows what Snoop can do even though I don't think he's come out with any album that comes close to this in terms of greatness. Definitely an album you should listen to the lyrics. Man is a brilliant story teller. Gin and Juice is a classic and sounds so much better listening like this instead of out in the world. Tha Shiznit has some bomb flow from Snoop. Definitely one of my favorites from this album. G's up Hoe's down. Lodi Dodi is a great story with great production. Murder Was the Case is probably my favorite song on here. Shit goes hard and is another example of hit story telling. Gz and Hustlas has some incredible production and beat. Honestly from Gin and Juice --> Pump Pump is full of straight up bangers. Shame that the start doesn't live up but gotta give a 5 with how solidly this mfer flows from front to back. Production on this album also hits so well. Has that deep fuzzy sound that is kinda brown-noiseish. But it adds to that gangsta sound.
Gin and Juice was much different than I remember it being. Lots of great songs on here surpisingly many of the ones I knew had less plays than others on the album that I didn't.
Generally not a super big fan of hip-hop/rap but this is peak Snoop Dogg. 5/5.
The obe the only snoop. I've been exposed to a handful of his peers on here and he is a standout
Listened
Laid back beats and vocal delivery with hardcore lyrics. Classic west coast debut from snoop.
Classic west coast shiiiii
YES!!! A top all time favorite!
This is such a good album. Yes, the lyrics are juvenile but they're also really funny. The beats and hooks are some of the best there're been. And to this day I refer to gin & OJ as "Snoop juice". Tha Shiznit.
Fucking. Classic. All-time banger. Put this shit in a time capsule and future generations will know EXACTLY what 90s rap was all about. The incomparable Snoop D.O. Double G!
One of the all-time great hip hop albums. I have listened to this more times than I can count.
One of the best 90s rap albums. It holds up super well. Enjoy the realism of it mixed with the great production
fuck it, deze gaat gewoon kkstupid dankzij dre
Oh yes, massive smile on my face when this came up and easiest 5 i've ever given, was one of my entry drugs into hip hip and still love it to this day, just fun bouncy music with personality. Snoop himself has never matched this. Yes it has 90's skits and gangsta posturing but the talent on display here shines through so strongly, this is a classic from any time period.
Great fun
Lots of hits
Listen Date: 12/6/23; Overall Score was 87/100. Overall Thoughts: - absolutely fantastic basslines throughout this album - it's crazy to see how much of his music was about violence and sex - lots of fun instruments throughout - weird synths; acid bass; strings; piano; guitar; harpsichord; flute - very well produced album with a lot of unique elements that has staying power
Pretty stellar, still my favorite of all the west coast gangster albums.
Classic hip hop album
SNOOOOOOOOP!
Lyrics are really cheesy by the todays standards but Snoop Dogg is a brand and he is selling the well crafted and maintained story. If you think about this as a concept album with GTA Vice City radio vibes, this is genius. I assume that this had to be game changing at the time of the release for some people and basically become staple piece from then.
I hope Snoop understands I'm not a weed man at all. Shrooms are more my thing. Of course Snoop would totally understand. He also wouldn't give a fuck. Which is totally the point.
Bathtub- 5/5 G Funk Intro- 4.5/5 Gin and Juice- 5/5 Tha Shiznit- 4.7/5 Lodi Dodi- 5/5 Murder Was the Case- 4.9/5 Serial Killa- 5/5 Who Am I (What's My Name)?- 5/5 For All My Niggaz & Bitches- 4.4/5 Aint No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None)- 4.7/5 Doggy Dogg World- 4.3/5 Gz and Hustlas- 4.6/5 Pump Pump- 4.5/5 Total- 4.7/5
These are some unbelievable beats, skits and rhymes here
G Funk classic, with banger after banger after banger. Great production and flow. I know lyricism is a huge part of rap, but I've heard more cringey lyrics from many other artists. Snoop and Dre made something special. Best Songs: G Funk Intro, Gin and Juice, Who Am I, Doggy Dogg World Worst Songs: Serial Killa
I got bitches in the living room gettin' it on And, they ain't leavin til' six in the mornin' So, what you wanna do? Shit, I got a pocket full of rubbers and my homeboys do too So turn off the lights and close the doors But (but what?) we don't love them hoes So we gonna smoke a ounce to this G's up, hoes down, while you motherfuckers bounce to this 5/5
Classic great album
holy shit
Fire from front to back! Classic Hip Hop album. I've heard it a hundred times and I'll listen 100 more.
Fucking classic joints of CLASSIC joints. LaDiDaDi. Come on
My childhood said heyyyyy. Love this album!
Amazing from beginning to end

A hip-hop classic!
Bad ass
Solid. This holds up so well.
I listen to this and have a bunch of good songs with amazing beasts. One of the best from Snoop just joking it is his best
Love this album, I've had a copy for years.
An all time classic that might have some questionable content but is an absolute banger
Another easy 5. Snoop came in straight out the gates after being the highlight of The Chronic to make a classic album. Backed up by Dr Dre's best production until 2001, there isn't a single song on here that doesn't have my head bobbing the whole way through. Sure you can complain about the lyrics, they really aren't saying anything insightful, but for me this album is all about the flow, the attitude and the incredible g-funk production.
One of my fav albums from when I was a teenager. Superb album
Snoop is breakin it damn!!!
One of the greatest hip hop albums ever. Fantastic debut for Snoop and it's smooth AF from start to finish. Incredible vocals and g funk beats all throughout. "Gin & Juice" among others as well. 10/10.
Endless funk. Fun to learn more about the certified legend that is Snoop D O doubleG.
Snoop doggy dogggg
Five stizzles 👍🏾
A g-Funk staple, but the abuse of skits does make it a lower 5 for me.
Baita fado
So good
Trop bon cet album. 5 G funk
Ooooooof doggystyle, me fooking favourite. What a stupendous thud of a record. A total thunderclap of humour and beats. An urgent surging in my pants. Suck my nob, nana xxx
Iconic. One of the best of all time
Me first 5/5, no filler.
Classic album, amazing production. Literally never gets old.
On the scale of 1 to 5, this album is at least an 11. Joking aside, one of my favorite albums ever. Never gets old...
Didn't realise this album was so old, I thought this was from closer to 2000 honestly. Really sounds like it too. I can't really get on with gangsta rap all that much, but there's usually some great beats behind the rapping. This was no exception, I think the backing beats slapped on this. And I feel like Snoop Dogg's rapping is smoother and less in-your-face that other artists in that era such as Ice Cube, so this was all-round a more listenable album, and without a doubt an influential album for hip-hop as a whole. Favourite: Who Am I (What's My Name?)
3.50000000000… sterne
Holy fupping groovy. You know it’s funky when the bass just sounds like a fart. I downloaded the album as I will happily listen again.
Snoop! Snoop a loop!
Insane how well developed his style is for a debut album. Some lyrics have not aged well but the flow is butter.
fun album, 3.5 (rounding up)
Gaz and hustlas : excellent évidemment 8/10
I just enjoy the hell out of most of this, always have. Without endorsing the obvious misogyny (I have no problem with the anti-cop sentiment tho,) this thing is funky as hell. I mean, it basically invented the G-Funk subgenre. No denying that it is often really stupid, especially the sketches and Lodi Dodi, which keeps me from 5 stars. Top tier production from Dr Dre, especially love What's My Name. A shame Snoop just became a brand like a lot of rappers of the era.
Good shit but a bit cringe
It's easy to forget how good of an artist Snoop used to be
Pleasant surprise. Had this sort of Halloween sound to it without being weird. It worked. Will listen again
This was a good vibe, listened into work and put me in a great mood stomping in the sunshine. Also re-listened at the gym and was good for a workout
Not as good as celebrated. Snoop was always overrated and his best work was done as features (of which he has too many). Still, a good debut.
Current Snoop is an odd figure. I remember encountering his cook books at a Barnes and Noble a few years back. And it reminded me of a kinda awesome bluegrass cover of gin and juice I had heard. I’ve actually heard many “indie” covers of gin and juice over the years. It always reminds me that Snoop was always a character, really, almost being parodied by himself for commercial gain from jump. Doggystyle was ALWAYS absurd. Intentionally so. And honestly much better done than Dre’s Chronic. The disses against Eazy are so much subtler and under the radar, yet no less biting. And man, the beats, the hooks, the straight up theft. It’s done so well. Thanks to this exercise I am truly getting schooled in this sub-genre. And I can’t say I am sorry. 4 These albums are too long. Boolean: True
Räptiä niinkuin räptin pitäisi olla. Kesäpäivänä autolla hissukseen kotiopäin ajellessa toimi varsin hyvin
A classic hip hop debut alongside Dre’s The Chronic introducing the world to west coast rap
Learned some new lyrics and sang some familiar ones. Solid 4, Snoop!
Because of Dre’s involvement and Gin and Juice this merits a four. Starts strong, but the latter third is a bit weak. And as you know, I hate interludes. Plus a very nice surround sound mix on Apple Music.
Great album. Snoops blend of funk and rap creates a unique sound. His delivery and his beats are super smooth. This record takes you straight to the club. Minus one for the sexism.
groovy
I liked it, my first time properly listening to snoop, was good at the start but fell off a lil towards the end, still a good album especially for a debut project of its time
Love it how the build in skits make it same like you are on the streets listening to some a golden mixtape you found in your local recordstore between the shitty ones. After the halfway mark it feels a bit repetitive, but overall a really good album!
Fun rapping and decent beats. Need to see if those lyrics are really just about sex or actually more
IMPRESIONANTE.
A classic, and a beaut Made me wish I had a convertible lowrider so I could cruise around town blasting this... ...but I'm a middle aged nerd from the midlands, so I'll just enjoy it while updating my spreadsheets
Gin and Juice and so many other hits
First of all, it was just a relief to have an album of a sensible length after three days of endless slogging. That is where the sensibleness ends though, and to be fair, that's a compliment. Snoop, that lover of the winter olympics and dressage, serves up really high quality nonsense, with peerless vibes. The lyrics are, natch, either horrible or puerile, but the backing and the overall feel is bang on the money.
All time Classic. Probably offends today’s crowd. Released while I was in college, we listened to this one from start to finish 1000 times. The real start of the G Funk era. Dre kicked it off, but it became much clearer with this release.
Not my type of music, but enjoyed it!
I really like g funk tbf
This one is, for better or worse, an origin point album. It's the rare kind of release where one can pinpoint the before-and-after point of everything about a genre changing. Though others came first, no one did it with quite so much suave charm as Snoop. The lyrics are a big subject of scrutiny here, and basically every negative, guns-bitches-and-money stereotype of mainstream hip-hop is popularized here (check some of the lyrics from "Ain't No Fun...") Sound-wise this album is just BEGGING to be blasted from the speakers of someone's low rider on a bright sunny day (I guess you could say this is a very GTA coded album, or rather, that GTA is a very Doggystyle-coded game series.) The central performance of course is Snoop Dogg's own, and it's a relatively introverted performance compared to the relative bombast and unsubtle instrumentation that surrounds him. It's actually an unusual contrast that stands out among his peers even today. There's moments like on "Tha Shiznit" where those whistling G-funk synth lines basically drown him out, yet Snoop maintains that same monotone drawl. It certainly sets him apart from a lot of the rappers of this era, and even today, but in some places it makes him come off as unamused, which is a problem that persisted in his do-anything-for-a-paycheque approach to music 30 years on. Despite all that, Snoop has never sounded quite so hungry, and his performance here would never quite be equaled. Snoop Dogg is more of a rootless, catch-all "celebrity" these days, but this album gives you a glimpse into what G-funk was and is, and its wide ranging influence despite only a brief appearance in the spotlight. Really puts into perspective personality that went from being a murder suspect in the 90s to appearing on daytime cooking shows. Truly a one of a kind career.
Alors là qu'est-ce qu'on attend ?
I see where Tyler the Creator comes from...
Fun, new genre I haven't listened to very much before. Will listen again
wild, ho amato
Crass and lyrically extreme, this record is also absolutely infectious and marked by the quality of vocal performances and sampling work throughout. Snoop's flow was exceptional (and versatile!) at 22 when this was released and the singers and guest rappers on this release are all at the top of their game. I'm given to understand that a great deal of the samples are drawn from funk classics (especially P-Funk) and it really shows. It finishes very strong with 'Gz and Hustlas'. On the other hand, you really can't escape the casual, light misogyny throughout (especially brutal in 'Ain't No Fun'). As with a whole lot of hip-hop of the era, Snoop wants you do know all about his heroic sex life. Also his athletic consumption of cannabis. It's hyperbolic, sure, but I wouldn't skip this comment with anyone else. It's very good, it's highly influential and it's probably about as likely to make uninitiated listeners uncomfortable as ever. It's almost certainly worth a listen. 4/5
For me the biggest star on this album is the production. It's got pinnacle 90s hip hop beats, and they quite frankly outshine even Snoop's best lyrics on the album. Not to say that his rapping is bad, though. If you like 90s rap this a great one for you.
pretty funnnn and kinda gross at times. but mostly fun <3 Fav tracks: Gin and Juice; Lodi Dodi; Gz and Hustlas
Another top ten no skip album
I get the hype
Not enough Warren G.
The production on this is just still so fucking cool. Insane hooks and beats throughout.
#17 A solid west-coast rap album that shows its age. The G-Funk beats are smooth as hell, Snoop's flow is great, and there are a few classics on the tracklist. The first half of the album outshines the latter half. The lyrics leave much to be be desired; balls are mentioned a lot...
Holy shizit! The samples, the flow, the swing!
A lot of the written lyrics are pretty forgettable, but Snoop 's rapping still sticks the landing, and the Dre production on this album is insanely good and what saves this album overall. "Murder Was the Case" is the real standout here for me. 8/10.
7/10 The beats are nice and catchy, but the lyrics are misogynistic and just lazy a lot of the time. Definitely a product of its time.
Maybe the most "visual" hip-hop record? No reason for videos on this as Dre and Snoop paint a masterpiece here. The P-Funk integration on this album is perfection. Of course the misogyny is awful, but that goes with the territory.
murda was the case 10/10
Ooowwwweeeeeeooooooooo oooo oooo. Oooooweeeeeeooooo
Lots of catchy songs!
Quintessential west coast 1900s rap. Great for a summer hangout or just blazing up a fat one. Top tracks: "Who Am I? (What's My Name?)," "Gin and Juice," "Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None)," "G Funk Intro," "Tha Shiznit"
90 hip hop fucking rules. This is a classic of the genre.
Legend
pior q é bom
Fun listen.
It’s crass, bombastic, distasteful at times. It’s also funny, style-defining in terms of production and Snoop’s hazy West Coast flow is unmatched. The reveal that the pouring sound at the start of Gin & Juice is preceded by someone going “Man, I got to piss” in G Funk Intro, brilliant. It’s not without the misogynistic posturing that characterized rap in this era, which listening in 2026 does make for some uncomfortable moments.
4.7
Very much a product of its time. So 90s in the best and worst ways. It’s also hilarious how Snoop Dogg’s reputation has basically done a complete 180. He used to be an actual gangster and spent time in jail and now he’s hosting stuff at the olympics and has a kids youtube channel
Did people that Snoop had beef with just have to pretend not to like this??
fav track: ain't no fun (if the homies can't have none) i honestly can adore how cohesive and creative this album is and the funk vibe to the rap is incredible but i personally am not a huge fan of the vulgarity here like wdym gin and juice starts with a sound bite of a man pissing (i realize aint no fun is very vulgar but its also a banger . so)
Great beats and flow. Never listened to this one all the way through, just the "singles". Will put this into my rotation.
Snoop mola. Fact.
A great, vibe-filled album, a true classic
Classic album that helped launch & cement careers. I didn't realize they set it up as flippin through the radio stations kinda like Frank Ocean's 'channel ORANGE' and others. Some of the funniest & most offensive music ever made, by a funny & sometimes offensive person.
I’d actually listened to this recently doing a deep dive into rappers whose discography I’d never properly explored, just listened to singles. So I knew I’d like this and I did, I’d definitely say this is a must listen because, it’s excellent, but also it’s clearly influenced a lottttt of other rappers and other artists of varying genres. Like the ‘follow me follow me follow me’ from ‘Who am I (What’s my name)?’ immediately made me think of Nelly Furtado ‘Turn off the Light’!
Musically top tier, lyrically pretty good as long as you are ok with nsfw language. Overall this album wasn't for me, but i'd play an instrumental on repeat.
Smooth, classic G-Funk sound. Keeps you swaying back and forth like a low rider.
I didn’t realize I fucked with Snoop like that
I still struggle with these 90's rap albums that have way too many skits but I'm giving a pass here. This album turned a 19 year old Snoop into a worldwide star. There are some classic songs here with great production and a killer vibe even if the lyrical content leaves a bit to be disired.
Buenardo
it's vulgar, shallow, sexist, raunchy, offensive, primarily about sex and drugs. none of the lyrics make me think, did i mention how ragingly misogynistic the album is yet? 4 stars.
The mix and production are superb but the lyrics are cringe and even the ones that aren't are pretty uncomfortable
Good stuff
I didn't listen to this much back in the day because I didn't care for the hardcore 'gangsta rap'. Yes the lyrics are juvenile, but he was basically a kid when he put this out, plus it was the '90s so things have changed since then. I never did, and still don't, care for the skits in the middle of the album, those can just be dropped. Great album otherwise
Guardado
I enjoyed this more than expected. Definitely a good album and worthy of a listen or 2. I mean I am not sure when that will be but I won't turn it off during a random-listen night. Thanks for the enlightenment. 4 "happily surprised" stars.
A classic...you cant hate on the g funk
A very solid album showcasing West Coast rap. Snoop is at the top of his game. Gin and Juice is a must listen to for any serious music appreciator.
So good. Would be 5 stars of not for all the skits.
feels exactly like rollin down the street smoking indo sippin on gin and juice
Très bonne surprise !
I sighed after seeing the album cover but consistent flow throughout the album.
Revolutionary album.
West Coast stays winning. How can you fault the coast that produced Snoop Dogg and G-funk?
super fun upbeat nasty early west coast rap. No songs stand out in particular. One for the ages
Dr. Dre has three records that are, imo, unfuckwitable, as the Lady of Rage might say. Straight Outta Compton, The Chronic, and this one. Tbh this is my least favorite of the three, but still a classic of its genre. It's tough to beat Gin&Juice as a killer summer bop. Lots of good guest spots here as well. The skits, not my thing, but more tolerable than many records of the era. Take a trip back to the early 90s with this record, some bubonic chronic, and a bottle of Tanquerey
funky and fun :)
While I don't think that Mr. Dogg has the most progressive views of the fairer sex, I can't deny that this kinda slapped while I was walking through New Cross today. Puts a spring in your step, makes you think, maybe I could smoke a pound of bubonic chronic every day? Once again, this list delivers a deeply problematic but quite good record.
Good vibrs
4.5
straight off the street realness. Some great tracks. Enjoyed
Classic 90s rap. Obsessed with sex and violence in a self-gratifying way. But very catchy, great beats, I was grooving most of the time I was listening.
I wish this album was more of Snoop Dogg rapping and less exposition and features. The highs are high enough for me to give it a 4.
Really cool album, not my favorite type of rap but it's definitely packed with style. Gin and Juice is a classic but I like Who Am I and Ain't No Fun a lot as well. It feels like a lot of these songs are almost comical exaggerations, except they're the OG (I think, who knows, '93 was a long time ago) and everything else copied its homework, which goes to show how influential this album is 7.2/10
I think I'm stuck in another run of "everything gets a 4" as a really good but not-quite-masterpiece album. Toyed with giving this a 5 due to its influence, but probably held back by some of the dated lyrical content and too many skits???! Some absolute classics here and basically launched G funk into the stratosphere (after The Chronic had already set things on their way). Dre's sonic palette is just great here, from party bangers to menacing almost horrorcore (Murder Was the Case). Snoop's flow is so unique and really sets him apart from other rappers of the era (and probably ever). A classic but not quite an all-time great album for me.
Snoop hits the sweet spot between cool and hungry, good vibes!
Watch out 80’s rap guys, it’s the 90’s rap guys! This album was a must listen as a teen, despite being white and not American the music always seemed to resonate for some reason. Anyway, cool listening to it again now
This is REALLY good. The entire album is strong and feels very unserious. I feel like there aren't many major hits here, but overall this album is really good. The transitions between albums are smooth too. Actual rating...4.5 Liked Songs: "G Funk Intro" , "Gin and Juice" , "The Shiznit" , "Murder Was The Case" , "Serial Killa" , "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" , "For All My..." , "Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None)" , "Doggy Dogg World" , "Gz and Hustlas" , "Pump Pump"
A hip-hop classic. Snoop never made an album better than this one. However, it still suffers from too many awful skits - the bane of many a hip-hop album. No one likes skits, why they were on so many albums is a mystery to me. Anyway, G-Funk production, killer flow and fairly dated rhymes. Should it be on the list? Yes. Is it as good as everyone says it is? Maybe. Best Tracks: Gin and Juice; Who Am I (What's My Name?); Gz and Hustlas
Bitches & hoes, sex and weed. Yeah yeah we get it, it’s “of its time”.. can’t help but feel for an entire generation of women- the platform fuels misogyny whether he meant it or not. That being said, snoop inserted a style to hip hop that was completely unique- soft spoken lyrics without the ferocity. Art seperated from the artist and all.
It's dated now but this was important & super influential at the time it truly set a new sound into motion. First step in a long career. Without Dr. Dre this is just another rap album. "Gin & Juice" (543M listens) is the centerpiece, followed closely by "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" - two hip hop Mt. Rushmore classics. No song on the album has fewer than 10M listens, most are around 50M, this is a seriously popular release. "The Shiznit" is an underrated song, "Murder Was The Case", "Pump Pump", "Doggy Dog World" (most of it) and "Ain't No Fun" are pretty classic tracks. It sounds a bit juvenile today but the beats and the old school vibe can still be appreciated. It beats the mumble rap, no beat nonsense being churned out today. 4 stars mainly due to influence but also for including two of the most well known hip hop songs of all time.
Rules.
Snoop makes it seem effortless. guy knew what was up early -- he turned 22 a month before this album dropped. I enjoy the G-funk production and sound, tho I needed some variety by the time I got to the end of the album. generally I felt like most of these songs would hit harder if they were 30-60 seconds shorter. gotta make space for those guests I guess.
This dude loves spelling his name. Love the vibe on this. Probably helped that I listened to it in the car with the windows down on a beautiful day. Sounded great when I had the headphones on later that night. I gave up mind-altering substances for Lent, so I’m gonna revisit this one for sure in a few days. 4.5
Its fun with sick beats and flow but man those lyeics
classic
good, chill, cool
Early-ish West Coast gangsta rap. Mellow soul/funk loops with dense rhymes. And those glissando wide range synth sounds. Even some actual singing in choruses. Odd key changes or something in Tha Shiznit. Quite disorienting the first listen. Snoop doesn't have the tightest rhymes but is it deliberate or just early-ish rap. Kurupt has very good flow. Strong female vocals in Lodi Dodi. Ain't No Fun is interesting. It's built like a classic funk song but lyrics are classic explicit gangsta rap. I still don't understand if this stuff is documentary, tongue-in-cheek, aspirational. Doesn't matter too much as the final project is so well-crafted. Gz and Hustlas has fun bassy funk piano hook. Best track - Gin and Juice, Murder Was The Case, Serial Killa, Who Am I, Ain't No Fun, Gz and Hustlas 4 stars - classic sound done to perfection
BIOTCH.
Perfectly vulgar, had fun, would do again...
This record is an undeniable classic. The raps are good-to-great. I wish it had none of the foolish skits, quite honestly. Still... Snoop and Dre changed the game.
Set the tone for hip-hop/rap to come. a great listen
Tuffness
Snoop Dogg might, unironically, be the most chill person in existence
Okay to be fair this one also disrespects women deeply BUT!! To be fair it's stanky as hell (positive) and really funny to listen to. Thank you doggy doggy dogg
Onhan tässä.
Classic rap
2026.03.16
4 being back funky hiphop
This is some puerile, offensive, intimidating, lowest common denominator music, but it’s such a ball-licking fun listen.
Im split on this one. Beat wise its a revelation. Now and when it came out. Pace in snoops singing is so unique.
The bops go hard, but the misogyny does as well. So many killer tracks and important messages, but unfortunately Snoop's particular takes on women pull this back from being the best it could be. 3.5/5 -> 4/5
Wild to hear this in 2026 now that Snoop is an avuncular caricature of himself who goes to Olympic events and hangs out with Martha Stewart. But the beats are good and Snoop's flow is unmistakeable. A classic West Coast rap album.
-such a 90s sound, almost sounds like a mix between Fresh Prince of BelAir and Eminem -really fun and funky sound Easy favorite is Lodi Dodi it’s a BOP
I don't belive it's the first album, sound like it dropped tomorrow
Gangsta rap opera, tends to be boring at the moments, but overall good.
Pleide å spille den på gitar back in the days.
Peak hip hop 1993
some god-level production, but the texts are HELLA misogynistic 4.5
Yes, this is absurdly misogynistic, and Snoop is a apparently a MAGA nutter now, and I’m not here to defend any of that. All I’m saying is that Doggystyle more than deserves it’s spot as a hip-hop classic.
grata sorpresa
Musically, it does a great job. Top tunes throughout. Lyrically, either very funny or wholly unacceptable
Fun album. The production quality is top notch and it's full of really catchy songs. Now, on the other hand, it's really raunchy and I don't really care much for the lyrics, but at the same time it's not aiming to be deep or anything, and it's just having fun, so I can't hold it too much against snoop. It had been a while since I listened to a hip-hop album and this one got really close to hitting the spot, specially because the beats and production is top notch. If I could, I'd give it a 3.5, but since I can't I'm closer to giving it a 4.
Look, the misogyny is exhausting, but the grooves are legendary. I can't quiiiiite give it 5, but I refuse to go lower than 4.
Snoop Dogg seems, more than his peers, to be playing a part. Nobody is this cool in the face of hard drugs and extreme violence. It's a refresher from the neurotic, overcaffenated reality of my own self, melting down because I'm five minutes late for work. The record's a sort of phantasmigorical mess. We're at a house party, but also we're listening to the radio? Then we're in the afterlife for a bit, then back at the party? But it works. I have a working theory that the west coast rappers of the 90s were the prototype of the MCU (though sticklers could argue the Marvel comics were that). Hearing some of the older albums like this and Dr. Dre's first, I can see how cross referential they are with the later ones, which adds a bit of Easter-egg spotting.
good ol' raunchy Snoop before he became a paid MAGA supporter.
I listened to it as I did my kind of routine wake n bake and I can say it def set the vibe. This album did numbers like it did for a reason because it truly aced the test of time.
# Album Name: Doggystyle # Artist: Snoop Dogg # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: Its snoop dogg, what did ya expect? Of course the lyrics are going to be crude. That aside, there were some good solid beats. I would agree, the rap is trash. Low 4 # Top Tunes: Gin and juice / who am i / Gz and hustlas # Would I listen to it again? Maybe
Buen disco.
very solid and funky. wish there was less misogyny
I'm def not the target audience. Really a vibe but more applicable to and filled with culture that I'm not really involved in... Still, can't fény it having artistic merit to a degree
Good
Со строчки «doggy doggy doggy can’t you see somehow your words just hypnotize me” вынесло.
One for the money, two for the bitchez
Just realized that Snoop Dogg raps a lot like Eazy-E. Must be something in the jheri curls. Anyway this was a fire album and I saved most of the songs.
I had never listened to this album before. Gin and Juice was everywhere in 1993, of course, and I love the Gourds' version of the song, but that was as far as I'd ever listened to, really, anything by Snoop Dogg. I was surprised just how darn good this is! I mean, the casual misogyny is as troubling here as everywhere else it appears in popular culture, but it's leavened by a heavy dose of hilarity. I sort of think that some of the skits on here are the actually funny, actually effective skits that Dr. Octagon was aiming for and failing to hit. Anyway, great flow, great beats. This is a 4.
Yeah his lyrics are redundant, and sometimes offensive to the mind and to the ears, but frankly I don't really care. This was one of the most fun albums I've listened to on this project. The production is incredible, the flow is incredible, and his voice and delivery is incredible. Flawed, but fun and nice to listen to.
Some great beats in here and collabs.
3.8 2x classic for good reason
I was always dismissive of this. I probably unfairly compared it to The Chronic. It’s entirely possible that I was wrong. Snoop is somehow sinister and smooth and menacing at the same time. I still like The Chronic better but this comes in a close second. James Hetfeild wishes he could flow like this.
Despite the age this album holds up and unlike some older rap especially the true gangster rap it doesn’t make you completely cringe in relistening
3.7 ok
hell yeah
Nice old school hip hop
Good but too many skits on it for my tastes.
All these Karen's giving one-star reviews would shit their pants if Eazy-E ever made it on this list. He walked so Dre and Snoop could fly. Yes, it's all a little trite with its flows of drugs and sexual conquest. But it's funky and it's fun, and I completely missed the gangsta rap train in my Gen X youth, so I'm glad to be making up for it.
Stone Cold Classic
I already had gin and juice-hella good song
Absolute peak snoop doggy dogg
i love the album cover , comic book style is so peak honestly i could listen to all of these songs they are all quite peak i like the instrumentals in the back its like the aliens snoop doggy dog 7/13 added
It was cool
w beats
Need to be reading about these puppies
D O double G. Classic
banger rap
Heater of an album here. Close to a 5 but not quite there for me.
Absolute bangers, amazing groove, iconic, hilarious. 5 stars minus 1 for the misogyny on Ain't No Fun & throughout
A little sexual- now I kniw where the term beeatch came from. Can tell parliament is a big influence. Good beats and stories, but not really my scene
I’ve never thought of this album as being a top tier hip hop record, but its significance is definite. Snoop Dogg has such an iconic flow, sound, and approach to hip hop. This and the Chronic both were the genesis that led to Snoop becoming more of a product than an artist. Despite his capitalistic future, this album is the sound of a young, hungry artist ready to show the world his talent. It’s a classic record with tons of great flows, samples, g funk beats, and prototypical skits.
You don’t love me. You just love my…
A landmark record. Some benchmark beats / lyrics / flow / sketches etc. Quiiiite disrespectful lyrical content but hey what ya gonna do. Repetitive nature of the backing tracks gets a bit annoying.
Definitely see why many consider this one a classic
