Intergalactic beastie boys meets Charlie's angels fight scenes

At least ‘dance’ electronic has something to it

Dammit if I didn't really like this album of groovy beats and smooth sounds. Nothing to write home about but it was chill with my coffee on a Saturday morning

And so I took off on my bicycle, well, to solve all my problems, to get out drugs, cause I had enough of that, I've had the college, I've had the earing the money, and the material trip, I just decided I was going to find a new way of life

I thought this was a really good electronic album well beyond it's time by an artist I'd never listened to. Nice to get something like this because it's so interesting to know that there are still new things out there. Guilty of Love was the low water mark and this one was terrible. Muscle Cars was the best. Light and fluffy.

Hmmm... It's kinda amazing how paper thin old electronic music is. This really doesn't hold up in 2024. Perhaps it's the straight repetition without variation. I think his transitions rely too heavily on fades in and out. Or perhaps it's the evolution of sound that sets this stuff apart when it's first introduced. Something gains earworm quality when there's a little snippet of something that you've never heard before, maybe it's a new instrument, maybe it's a series of quirky chirps but that unique morsel sets the artistry alive and makes an impression. This is the first time I've heard Mylo and 2004 was 20 years ago. There's nothing here that's eluded me. So, it's quite possible that this was revolutionary when it was released, but it is less so today.

I immediately pre-judged this electronic music I'd never heard of for it's "Destroy Rock & Roll" title. I like a lot of electronic music, but predictions of the demise of rock music have always been overstated and thus I was wary. Luckily, Mylo doesn't seem to have a destructive agenda of his own. The title track, with it's backing vocal from a fundamentalist Christian sermon was brilliantly paired and quite catchy, but overall a lot of the album fell flat. It opens with two good songs that are atmospheric and enveloping, but those are followed by a series of fairly boring house tracks before "Destroy Rock & Roll" tries to get things back on track. "Musclecar" tried for a repeat of the spoken word and beats pairing but was not as successful, but the album picks back up at the end, especially with "Emotion 98.6." If the vibes created by the start and end of the album were sustained throughout, it would make for a much more satisfying listen. Like with last week's Black Sabbath, the preacher's rundown of all the corrupting acts in rock and roll reminded me how tame much of what induced pearl-clutching in previous generations seems in the 21st century.

Semantic satiation is a phenomenon whereby the uninterrupted repetition of a word eventually leads to a sense that the word has lost its meaning. Halfway through drop the pressure Mylo says morherfucker’s so many times it loses all meaning. Not only are the lyrics repetitive, the repetition of the same sounds renders this album nothing more than background music.

I did not have nearly enough ecstasy in my body (read: any) to properly enjoy this album, but I like it would have been pretty good if I did.

I believe I purchased this album back in the day after hearing "Drop the Pressure". I really wanted to love it but found myself only kind of liking it. While it's creative in places, it tends to feel pretty repetitive and synthetically anodyne in others. It might be a product of the genre or the era, but I had a hard time getting back into this album. It does carry some sentimental nostalgia value for me so I'll round up my 2.5 to a 3.

Given that there are so many more adventurous electronic dance albums around, I am not sure why this rather straightforward album is in the list. The hits Drop The Pressure and In My Arms are OK, just like several of the other songs. Hearing the title song (some kind of Negativland cover) once seems enough. On a side note, a remix version of one of the songs is much better than its original: the Étienne de Crécy remix of Paris 400. The unremixed version is nice, but the remix is great and beats every track on Destroy R&R.

Quite acceptable, occassionally compelling, dance music.

Pretty cool sound. Laid back and fun electronic music befitting of a warm summer day. Sort of Daft Punky at times too (in "Drop The Pressure"). I liked it and I think it's a nice 3/5. Sometimes this kind of music gets a little too repetitive for me. It's not really a fault of the music itself though, as sometimes music is written specifically to be groovin to and with any kind of drastic change there it's going to mess with the dancing. Can't have that.

For such a confrontational name, the music sure is inoffensive

Trevligt

Not bad, pretty bouncy

In My Arms slaps with the force of 15 bricks in a burlap sack.

I enjoyed this as background music - I guess the groundbreaking part of this album was the use of rock & roll music from Mylo's upbringing, but not knowing any of those songs means that it didn't really mean anything to me. With that said this was enjoyable, easily digestible house music from the early 2000s.

Good beats but a bit boring to listen to all in a row. Good background music for a drone tour of a city or something

3/5 Best: Paris Four Hundred Worst: Destroy Rock & Roll

Interessant

Pretty much dead-on average

Good sound.

This was a decent house album. At first I wasn't that impressed but as it went on I really liked some of the songs and specifically the samples he was including. Not sure that I'll ever come back to this one but it's not bad at all. Standout Tracks: Drop the Pressure, Paris Four Hundred, Destroy Rock & Roll, Rikki, Need You Tonite

This was a fun album. Good beats and samples.

A decent version of the French electro style, but really nothing more

A few classics, that I had no idea Mylo was responsible for

This album is a solid effort that showcases the Scottish producer's talent for crafting catchy, danceable electronic music. The album is full of upbeat tracks with infectious melodies and beats, and I do appreciate some nice breezy music once in a while. Mylo shows a knack for incorporating elements of other genres into his music, such as rock, pop, and hip hop. However, one of the album's biggest weaknesses is its reliance on samples. While some of the samples are used effectively, others feel overused and uninspired. In My Arms works for me but the eponymous track is particularly annoying. 3.5 rounding down because I don't think I actually did need to hear it.

2nd time hearing this one. It has impressed me. I thought I was going to hate it, but it isn’t bad at all. Some songs are much better than others and there is kind of a boring feel at times but overall, I enjoyed it. Standouts: Sunworshipper, Drop the Pressure, In My Arms, Destroy Rock and Roll, Others: Guilty of Love, Otto’s Journey, Musclecar, Doctor Pressure. Rating: 3.5

Some interesting melodies and decent background music

strange

Mf really thought THIS album could destroy rock and roll? 😂 It’s probably one of the better examples of its genre. Enjoyable at parts. I don’t like the vocal samples common to this genre.

Overraskande bra

bien tranku 7/10

“The most laid back HOUSE album I’ve ever heard” he said, while yawning. I think Rock and Roll is safe…. While it isn't much of a 'HOUSE' album, I think it is really good. I hate the mispronounced names in the song listing all the 80's music stars. Seriously? Jack Coogar Mellencamp, Cyndi Looper....ridiculous. That aside, the album is quite enjoyable in it's own way. At the start of the day I was thinking this was a 2/5 at best, now after listening to it all day, I'm at 3.5.

You're not destroying anything with this soft and fluffy item.

all the best hooks are taken

3.5 - More hotel lobby music but this time it’s for a hotel you actually want to be at. Whereas other electronic records may be suitable for the business hotel off the airport, this one’s for an upscale beachside hotel.

Good hang out at the house techno. Mellow, with a variety of genres to keep it interesting.

Dollar Store Daft Punk

Not bad for background music, stands the test of time within its genre, but definitely forgettable. Does not destroy rock n roll, that’s for sure.

Not as bad as expected based on the genre but ultimately of course nothing really worthwile

I’m indifferent

Smooth AF. Not a lot of lyrics, good background jam. Some can be a little too much or repetitive, mostly all fun. 3/5

Surprisingly not as bad as I thought. Some tracks have a cool proto-lofi hip hop sound to them.

A bit of electro house for you. It starts out as a mellow instrumental jam that starts to ramp up with the fourth track. This peaks with the title track, which has a rambling of "rock & roll" bands and artists, not unsimilar to Daft Punk's Teachers. Not every song is a winner but albums like this were meant for mixing in the DJ booth for the club, not really for a sit-down listen at home. In full honesty this album needs to be waited out for it to truly get good.

Trying to come up with a better descriptor than "simple," but that's all I got.

It kinda alternates between entertaining and mildly irritating and headache inducing

Kind of interesting as background music. I really don't mind the repitiveness and looped samples...In My Arms, in particular is one enjoyed. I could maybe see coming back to this, but not super often. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding

legal o fadinho eletrônico

Quite liked this, but nothing that exciting

Mylo is a low GI snack. The title wasn't really indicative of the content.

Some okay ambience for the afternoon, but largely forgettable

Kinda cool. I don't usually dig this genre but this wasn't bad. Nothing too great but I like it more than a lot of other electronic music. A pity this is the only album they put out.

Really cool dance Album. Mylo really had some heaters. Fave track - Drop The Pressure

Here's one that speaks to state of mind and environment and their effects on my experience with an album. I was enjoying this just fine as I listened and jogged in the cool afternoon yesterday. I found the monologue-on-repeat about the druggie cyclist sort of annoying but it fit the vibe and had a payoff of sorts, so... OK. I was enamored with the title track, finding the preacher's (or whoever that idiot is) mispronunciations funny and loving that they looped Missing Persons and Duran Duran as that was in heavy rotation in my high school days. I related. There was a track that jarred me out of enjoyment —maybe Musclecar, maybe Zenophile, and maybe neither of those was on the original release (2005 remixes) — so should they count? I don't know. Listened again this morning over coffee as I got the day started and liked what I was hearing a whole lot less. Totally over the cyclist. Had to turn it off as I was finding it distracting and not promoting a good mood. So a 3. Sometimes, it's right. Other times, it ain't. Spotify with these multiple versions of albums... not always the bonus it presents itself as.

I was not familiar with Mylo. I really like this kind of dance/techno/electronica. I put this kind of music on when I'm cooking alone in the kitchen and pretend I'm in the club with Keith.

One great song and a few OK ones

Pretty fun. Not obsessed but dont hate it.

Surprisingly better than I’d hoped for

Curious inclusion on the list - maybe this was ground-breaking at the time, but it just comes across as tame "producer" music in this day and age.

I enjoyed these rhythmic grooves more than I expected to.

I fucking love random European electronic music, gotta be one of my favorite genders

Heavily influced by Daft Punk, but not as versatile. 3/5

fav sunworshipper guilty of love paris four hundred zenophile emotion 98.6 least fav drop the pressure feel like I might appreciate this more if I recognized/had a connection to the samples

favourite song: sunworshipper least favourite song: in my arms pretty solid just a few fairly annoying bits

Another electronic album... this one seems a bit more modern than the last one we listened to, however, it has the same issues. A lot of these songs aren't very engaging, though there are a couple that are just great... Paris Four Hundred and Otto's Journey.

What's this? A British electronic album that didn't last two hours? It's pretty catchy and kept my interest the whole way, very chill and nice stuff. I particularly enjoyed Sunworshipper

Before Calvin Harris we had Mylo... Definitely vibes of 2-4-1 Becks on a Monday night, but enjoyed parts of this. Mainly the album tracks and In My Arms, but not bad at all! Guilty of Love a highlight

Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected when I heard the first track, each one was decent but seemed to be missing an extra riff or part that would make it stand out. Really good as far as house music goes!

Not sure it destroyed rock and roll but I didn't mind it. Easy to listen to in the background.. Inoffensive electronic music. Probably wont go back in the future though

Not the biggest fan, but not bad.

It's possible that I've heard music from Mylo before, but I can't say for sure. Destroy Rock & Roll was all new music for me. Sometimes I listen to some generic synthwave music to play as background noise to get me through the work day. This album felt very synthwave, and relatively generic. Most of the album was okay, but around the title track my individual track ratings were dipping in to the 2 star range. I did mark the opening and closing tracks ("Valley of the Dolls" and "Emotion 98.6") as tracks to come back to. I'll let the start and end keep the album afloat in the 3 star range (after rounding).

Pleasant easy listening electro dance. Samples Betty Davis Eyes and Gloria Estefan, so bonus point!

Jakby Daft Punk zgubił pomysł na piosenkę w połowie

Feels like the most bumpin' hold music

Solid electronic music. I liked the choice of samples, especially Bette Davis Eyes. Will have to listen to his BBC Essential Mix.

Not too bad. Would’ve liked it more lo-fi.

I'm surprised just how much I like this. I normally despise house music. This is just chill enough for me, probably those soft rock samples. Like most house music it does have really good bass synths they manage to not be overwhelming which tends to be a rarity in house. The rest of the synths find a somewhat peaceful balance too, again a rarity. It is a very very rare day when something listed as house or electronica gets higher than a two from me. The titular track is just weird, funny but very weird. Quite a few good names there (though some pronounced horribly wrong). Not sure I love that with the title itself makes me concerned. Though after reading the Wiki page about the song those both make so much more sense. But anytime you name drop my hometowns most famous band I'll like it. I have to be an REO fan by law. Though this being on the list and none of theirs being here should be against that law.

It's definitely a House album

bad title, fine grooves

It's got a good beat and you can dance to it I guess. Mostly generic club music (this coming from someone who hasn't set foot in a dance club since, I don't know, the mid 90s?) and that's fine but not always my thing. I like the songs with the fundamentalist Christian fascist guy rattling off the 80s musical artists and the woman naming cars, respectfully. Other than the occasional sample I recognize, nothing really stands out here.

Album was pretty hit or miss, some tracks were super boring, some were jams.

I liked it

Decent background music, really, really retarded title.

To me, DJ Music always seems so... light and inconsequential. I put it on and listen to the whole album, and not even notice when it's over. There's nothing ever profound there. It's music to take some E to, get out on the dance floor and have a good time. Like, who cares if it's the UK version of the album or not, where they had to re-record tracks because of sampling? No one goes to a rave and listens THAT closely. "Ohhhhh, listen to the beat, they used THIS kind of drum machine instead of THIS kind." You're listening for that BOOM BOOM BOOM to bump and grind, get blitzed to and have some kind of communal, dance experience. So deep listening to this is almost impossible. And giving it a high rating is almost impossible too. It's the fast food of music, it will satisfy, but will you really remember it afterwards?

eletronic gostosa, 3/5

Good, soothing ambient music.

Feel like I've heard these songs in some shape or form over the years. Really love Sunworshipper which I first heard on a Ministry of Sound Chillout Sessions album in 2007.

Some super grooves. Occasionally too much repetition in the vocals.

Destroy rock and roll? With this? Bwahahahahahahehehehohohoahhurgh... *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough*

Some interesting jams but overall doesn't go into a direction beyond fun dancey tunes. Definitely a vibe better suited for the dance floor than an album listening experience.

This is the first and only album from DJ Mylo. It's house music that DJ Mylo made by sampling soft rock songs from his childhood in the 70's and 80's. Because of this, it's a unique album that many people liked. This album was fun to listen to, but I wouldn't say the title is correct - it didn't destroy rock & roll.

Again, hats off to this project for introducing me to music I'd otherwise never hear. This one is quite a departure from most of the music I've listened to, and I really enjoyed it. I don't know much about this genre and how the production process works to make it, but the end result is engaging and catchy. Some really great beats throughout. Fun stuff.

Not bad bit of sample, remix, and dance. Groovy and was a lovely soundtrack to my yoof.

Seems like it’s desperate for a rap track. Some solid grooves. Still, I’m waiting for more impressive electronic albums.

Really enjoyed listening to this in the car, put me in a bit of a trance. Enjoyable

Quite fun

Surprisingly chill given its name. I liked it mostly.

Did not destroy rock and roll but it's not bad

I guess this was cool in 2004? I dunno, feels pretty middle of the road

Not bad, chill electronica

A pioneer in the field of bedroom electronica. An album that will inspire many other electro artists. Quite funny to listen to. (5/10) FT: In My Arms, Drop the Pressure

I didn't really like it all that much, apart from a couple of songs that had famous samples of songs I do love. And the title track, that was very interesting. Might be one of the most interesting songs I've come across in a long time.

Some standout hooks and beats, and nice steady flow in the mid-tempo range, but like much else in this genre, it gets a little samey and stale, and the tech sounds dated.

Hele fijne afwisseling.

This album is bookended by some very nice songs, but in the middle Mylo disappears up his own asshole. Good for making playlists, but not for sitting down and listening for an hour, as that's liable to drive one insane. Best track: Emotion 98.6

Скука

Loved this when it first came out. Thought I still would be sounding a little bit dated now tbh. Still passable but maybe not 'classic'

Pretty good, but it doesn't do anything special. Favorite track is Otto's Journey.

there were some for sure vibes

Okay? Essential? No.

Catchy dance beats. Lots of repetitious sampling in some tracks.

This is ahead of its time and the apt evolution of pop music skewing away from rock. It’s sad in retrospect but these beats are the start of edm.

Fácil de escuchar. Ambiente medio electrónico. Buenas melodías

Liked it overall. I notch up from "background music" for the energy and it was mostly engaging. There were a couple of really solid tracks but I also didn't care for the ones with the vocal clips looped on them. Art, I guess. 3.5 though

3, it's fine for background music. Pronouncing Bowie as "Booie" in Destroy Rock & Roll annoyed me.

Not much of a house guy, but this was great background music for work

Yeah I like this . 3 stars 🌟

Better than I expected actually. Some songs I might come back too.

56. Adoro tudo! Estou a dizer-lhe, Msr. MotA: Sunworshipper

beep boop beep boop it ok

Ministry of sound sort of sound. Not bad, no good. Drop the Pressure is clearly stand out.

überraschend gut

Inoffensive dance music - compared to the likes of Justice and Daft Punk it ain't as catchy / experimental but it ain't bad

It's nice, very pleasent electronic music, but a lot of it seems relatively simple -"Drop The Pressure" was the first track to stand out -"Destroy Rock & Roll" is cool

Electronic. Not my fave.

i like electronic music but this is nothing speciall at all, it doesnt even sound like an album. Ill give it a 3 only for the nostalgy that drop the pressure gave me

I didn't love this, but I didn't mind it, either. I listened to it all the way through.

I really enjoyed this album. I don't know what genre this music falls into but it was interesting and served the purpose of good driving music.

vibey for the most part, although i really didn't like the title song not much i would recognise if i heard it again - not particularly memorable great background music flowed well

Nice tunes to relax and study to. Kinda forget I'm listening to it.

I am not a fan of Techno/House music. Overall a great album if you are in the club! But not something I would put on to jam out in the car or hanging around the house. 1) Valley Of The Dolls 2* 2) Sunworshipper 3* Defintly a song I could see sitting on the beach laid back with a drink in hand enjoying the sun. 3) Muscle Cars 3* 4) Drop The Pressure 4* Reminds me of 80's new wave mixed with Under Pressure by Queen 5) In My Arms 3* 6) Guilty Of Love 3* very jazzy feel. 7) Paris Four Hundred 3* 8) Destroy Rock & Roll 3* 9) Rikki 3* 10) Otto's Journey 4* only because it reminds me of late 80's and early 90's Hip Hop 11) Musclecar 3* 12) Zenophile 2* 13) Need You Tonite 2* Chill relaxing 14) Emotion 98.6 2*

Enjoyed it. Nice reference to Big Country.

In 2009 I spent a decent amount of musical bandwidth trying to understand electronic music.I especially wanted to "get" techno and tap into the weird joy that stoic Germans experience after dancing for 2 days straight in an abandoned East Berlin factory, but I never got in. House music, though, was much easier to feel. I loved today's album. It's fun as hell. Not at all challenging. Very standing desk dancable. Production is bright and welcoming. It's easy to anticipate the loud-soft transitions - you already know where each track is going even when hearing it for the first time. It all seems very connected to some natural inner programming. Does a truly great album have to challenge the listener? Can consistent good vibes dance music be considered great? Why the hell not. B+

Wasn't sure about this one at first but it grew on me. Knew 2 or 3 songs which turned out to be my least favourites. Prefer the more chilled ones towards the back end.

+ Valley of the Dolls, Drop the Pressure, In My Arms, Guilty of Love - Sunworshipper, Destroy Rock & Roll Chill and suave, relaxing, good for concentration, until it isn't...Some of the tracks feature spoken samples that are repeated OVER AND OVER ("Missing Persons, Duran Duran")...This might be acceptable in early electronic music where voice samples were a novelty, but this album is from 2004 where they have no excuse for it.

Instrumental, electronic and great

Never heard this before. Interesting. Might be worth a second listen.

I lost interest halfway through.

Disco. Alguna melodía interesante.

I recognise the song "In your arms" but the first couple are pretty good too

I was not excited when I learned it was electronic, but it wasn't bad. smoothish. Maybe too long.

this was some interesting music, not my particular cup of tea, but i could dig it as background/work noise.

I'm digging this. Chill as fuck

funky cool but also fairly bland

Good beat, no words

A misleading name, more downtempo than destructive. An enjoyable listen, even though I slightly question whether this deserves to make the cut of this type of list. "Rikki" and ""Paris Four Hundred" stood out as my favourites. Probably a 2.5, but will round up after just listening to the "Doctor Pressure" mashup.

Hey it's that period of "nordic and britain not following the trends" and doing pretty chill electronic music. Drop The Pressure is a classic.

Decent

not bad at all, I liked it

I typically like house stuff, and this one is... OK. Would listen again, but wouldn't be able to identify it if you put it in a lineup. 3 stars.

Not a fan of a lot of the spoken word samples laid over the top of some tracks, but otherwise a really nice record. Lots of great synth sounds, basslines, production. From the good old days before popular electronic music got all samey.

Very forward thinking- lil bit of lofi and lots of jams

Drop the pressure

Boring at times, but some groovy beats and stuff.

This was a grower. I started off not really feeling it, but towards the end, either the songs got better or I got more into the zone. I especially liked the last three tracks. Still, not quite sure if it gets a 4 from me. 3.5.

So far cruisy house kinda music? I'm not that with electronic genres (boom, it was!). Not awful, and it's pleasant enough for 4am easy listening, but it gets a bit long in the second half. 3/5.

I bought this on release and listened to it with my then girlfriend and now wife on a driving/walking holiday around the NW of Scotland (way before middle-class VW campervan fannies branded it the NC500). At the time I liked it, though there are few slower or less interesting tracks on it. Re-listening recently I found the album quite tedious, tracks over-long and lacking any drive. I found the same today.

Not a fan of music made this way. Grew bored very quickly.

This lowkey feels like elevator music.

Endtroducing..... but boring

J’ai pas trop aimé

2.3 The samples of 80's hits turned me off a bit, they felt a bit lazy. Some parts reminded me of Chromeo, who I think are wildly more entertaining.

Oh my god it's so dull There's no substance here The only thing this album is destroying is my good day

Listened Before? N TechNOPE. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Sunworshipper

This album dragged along, except for a brief interlude when Mylo sampled Kim Carnes' "Betty Davis Eyes".

*49 Jeg tror, rock and roll overlever lidt endnu.

It’s fine. I thought it was fine at first, but it wore out its welcome. Robert Dimery just really needed to pad out the list with any half-decent early 21st century album from the British Isles. 2/5

High tempo, sample-heavy, synth disco pop. Sounds like it should be good but it is not. If this album had a colour it would be beige

rubbish

regardless of the quality of the music, Mylo has succeeded based on the rockists on this page getting mad at him for making electronic music. as if this is literally any less artificial in the grand scheme of things than Led Zeppelin, for example. if you're gonna dismiss this, why not go whole hog and consider electric guitars the downfall of "real" music? but to be fair i think this isn't great. it's so.. mellow? and in the world of 2000s electro house groove is sacrificed for intensity. fine! good! there's a lot of great music in this vein. but this doesn't hit. it fades into the background too easily. [which is a large complaint i have with this list. few of the dance music picks are actually fun to dance to]. deserves to be one of the 1001? mmmm well. ok. house music should be represented on here and i'm loathe to kick off one of the few picks. but. it's also not as notable as some of the snubs (Soulwax, Digitalism, Mr Oizo, Vitalic), so i'm in a weird spot on this. i say keep it for now but barely. if you wanna slot in Lambs Anger opt for that one instead

Not what I was expecting

An album with this title is likely starting in a hole for me. And this didn’t really escape. Not as terrible as other stuff we’ve had in this genre, but really not all that interesting or enjoyable for me. 1.5 and flipped a coin to go up or down…Mylo lucked out this time.

Alright

Very suitable as background music. No real highlights, but also no big no-nos. Just plain mediocrity. Feels AI-generated sometimes, and a few songs at the beginning have this lo-fi vibe that you can find en masse on YouTube. So, I guess you can say this album is kinda a pioneer? Congratz. In the early 2000s, I was playing with Magix Music Maker, where I grabbed and mindlessly arranged various samples to create "music". This album very much reminds me of that approach.

Can't say much about this. This is okay, as far as Electronic Dance music goes. Unfortunately, this kind of music doesn't go very far for me... It started okay with the first two tracks in more Downtempo like style but switched quickly to a boring House party which felt quite uninspired most of the time. Give me some Rock'n'Roll instead... 2/5 - below average

How come every generic electronic/house album has to be an hour long? I got the point of it in the first couple of minutes, did we really need to drag it out? This is fine. I would never seek this out again, but it made perfectly fine background music while I focused on anything that wasn't this album. There were a couple of vocal loops that I found annoying though. High 2.

483/1089 - Sounds like average house music.

Removed

This sounds like weather channel music

Seemed cool at first until I had the sinking feeling of “oh no this is the WHOLE album isn’t it…” 2.5/5

This album came out about a week after I graduated college. I've never heard of the artist. I didn't love it because this isn't really my genre but I will give it an extra star because some of the beats/synth sounded like the soundtrack to the Streets of Rage video game series which I love.

1.75 - I swear, "Guilt of Love" sounds like it's sampling music from a Mario game. Some decent songs, some (like the title track) that grate on my nerves. I'm really not sure why so much music like this has been deemed essential.

You will never destroy rock and roll, especially not with this. Can't really call many of the title track people listed rock and roll anyway. And who are David Boo-ie and Cyndi Looper?! Some of this is absolutely dreadful: that bicycle 'song' is the lamest thing I've ever heard. I've heard it on Smooth Chill radio before and think it's stupid. In My Arms is like a broken record, and a broken CD in one. The rest of this serves as boring background music, not detestable, but pretty crap.

Najgorszy rodzaj elektroniki. Bez serc, bez ducha to szkieletów ludy. 4/10.

Electronic, lots of voice samples/ talking

This album- and perhaps most electropop releases- is a reminder that despite the wealth of technology available, artists usually end up making boring music. Overall: 3/10

Destroy Rock & Roll is yet another electronic album I had never heard of prior to starting the 1001 albums to hear before you die list, and after going through this album I really struggled to find what made this so much more special than some of my personal picks for a list like this. I am not going to say Mylo makes a bad album here by any means, but this is some of the most aggressively safe Downtempo/Electro House music I have heard in a minute. It is so safe that it gets to a point where you wonder if this album even tried taking any risks or if it was an entirely phoned in 54 minute experience. There is nothing notable to talk about here as each track feels without any sort of life to it, just a solid shell with next to no flavor to it all. The entire time I was waiting for it to really pop out and surprise me and yet that never came. This album is a bit of a nothing burger, but also not one that I would consider bad, just deeply underwhelming.

No. No, not at all.

With a name like “destroy rock and roll” I don’t know what to expect. I love this first track. Sun worshiper gets monotonous. Same spoken track over and over over. Ok. It started to get boring for a bit. Then track 5 came on. I like this one. This album is up and down for me. It’s good and mediocre. I’m glad this is near the end. I would probably enjoy this at a club. Last track is great. Overall I think this is a 2 or a 3 star. I don’t hate it, but it’s not that great either.

I like some of the tracks, they're easygoing and the samples are slick sometimes. I've just been in a really lousy mood for weeks. Sorry Mylo. I'm sure I'd enjoy this more if I was happier.

What is this? Why on earth is this on this list? Decent background working music but I don't think that makes this something any NEEDS to listen to. Some of the songs were super repetitive and annoying. What talent is this showcasing specifically? I am unclear.

Dabbles in electronica and pop. Has made me want to listen to rock and roll more than ever.

This is not good.

Not familiar with this DJ at all but it seems this is the only album they made. I thought it was some pretty good house music and made a nice listen. Some good experiments and mixes too.

Tydeligvis vanskelig å lage noe bra electronica..

⭐️⭐️ nothing really memorable here, but it's also not the most difficult to sit through. makes decent background music at best. i think 2 stars is an appropriate score

Nice elevator music, definitely not destroying rock and roll anytime soon

Let me make sure I understand… Drop the Pressure is this guy’s standout single?!? WTF. I genuinely don’t understand. This album definitely does not belong on this list. In addition, the repetitiveness of this album is extremely grating. There are some good beats though, so… (2)

slightly-more-tolerable-than-usual dance music

It’s not my kinda music. But I didn’t hate it as much as the rest of the 1 stars. Rock and roll survives this one

A little Yaz feeling but kit as good. Random names as lyrics....

Netter Discomix

cool dance album but forgettable

Well… this album sounds like 2004. I get what they were trying to do, but MGMT did it better. 4/10

Just not my thing

Never heard of him and originally thought it was an American band but he is Scottish which probably accounts for the shout out to Big Country. This is just meaningless electrosynth rubbish. In fact, I was listening to this on YouTube and kept thinking an advert had come on such is the banality of the tunes.

Not terrible or annoying, but a really boring and unnecessary album. If you feel like listening to French house, there's no reason to choose a cheap copy like this.

I thought I liked a few songs but it's been an afternoon and I already forgot everything.

As ive gone thru this list, I’ve grown fonder for electronic projects. This almost made me start to hate them again

Retail music - upbeat uptempo bright and breezy synth pop electronica. At best it's like an optimistic Boards of Canada but for the most part it's like an own brand Daft Punk.

just not that interesting and the vocals are annoying as hell especially the title track

Apparently, this album is inspired by young Mylo growing up on the Isle of Skye listening to Atlantic 252. An Irish radio station that had a big foot print. I spent the summer holidays of 1992 doing a data input job at the Isle of Man Airport. The radio was tuned to Atlantic 252. They had about 20 records. This record, although not bad, draws from a similarly limited sonic palette.

It's not a bad background noise to put on while you're doing chores, but life-changing? I've had cups of coffee that were more life-changing than "Destroy Rock & Roll" by Mylo. The beats are mostly pleasant, and I can't say that I wasn't nodding my head and even shaking my little white ass at times. But there's also nothing original or phenomenal about this record, at least as far as I could tell (electronic is, as you might have gathered, far from my genre of choice). The most interesting part of the record is the vocal samples, which are only, I'd say, mildly interesting.

A few songs were decent, but I found that a majority of them were annoying and repetitive. And I fell asleep while listening to it.

Sounds like if Daft Punk decided to make their own "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts". I could maybe see putting the title track on a mixtape but other than that nothing here really that I'd go out of my way to listen to again.

Do I really need to listen to this album before I die? Probably not. It definitely didn't destroy rock and roll. And I could see how it would be transformative in the 80's or 90's. But having it come out in 2004.. there's so many better albums I could be listening to.

Felt a bit cheesy for me… couldn’t really get into it.

This seems like standard inoffensive loungey beep boops. I don't hate it, but, per usual, don't really feel anything about it at all.

Pretty tame and not too inspiring. I love EMD but this feels super bland and some ridiculous lyrical work (the song naming all of the 80s artists?) just ok....like a 2.4 or so. Not great. “Destroy Rock and Roll" has a few flashes of charm and a few infectious grooves, but the album never quite finds its footing. It’s a clever idea in search of a stronger pulse, leaving you wishing its best moments showed up more often. The album feels more like a promising sketchbook than a finished statement. Pleasant enough, just not the knockout it wants to be.

Meh. Helt ok, ga meg lite.

Brave naming this album Destroy Rock & Roll. More like idle threats to Rock & Roll or Mild shoving and pushing Rock & Roll. I'm not a big dance music fan but this is mid tier dance music. 2 out of 5 stars

It's okay. Some of the songs are passable and at least it was upbeat. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again

Not horrible but not interesting enough to make me want to come back.

Pleasent, but hardly essential. Mostly background music

Difficult to see why "Drop the Pressure" was such a big hit. It's annoying and by far the worst song on an album that is mostly yawn-inducing. 1.5/5.0: Bad

someone said this is a remix of wii music i would like to add theres some layerzs of elevator music in here as well i wanna understand where the album name came from sunworshiper lyrics are annoying. hope he crashed his bicycle in my arms is REALLY annoying w those skips lofi beats ahh album "cindy looper" im sorry?? nah too many skips in the songs. would be a whole star better if they werent there favorite song: emotion 98.6

Before: Another one I don't have a clue about. I'm guessing maybe it's not rock. Maybe something from the jazz or rap realm? During: My first thought after the first 30 seconds is "techno background music". Seeing how this was released in 20024, it's rather recent. I'm wondering now if any of my favorite albums from 2004 are on this list. 1. The Fiery Furnaces, Blueberry Boat - nope, nothing at all from them 2. Destroyer, Your Blues - nothing at all from him 3. Flotation Toy Warning, Bluffer's guide to the flight deck - nothing at from them 4. New Buffalo, The Last Beautiful Day - nothing at all from her 5. The Divine Comedy, Absent Friends - well, not this one but there are 2 other albums from them on the list - guess what, they're Britpop On the fourth track now. You've got to be kidding me. WTH is this album on this list? I can see putting one example of this style of music on the list but it should be one of the best. I wouldn't know but I'm pretty sure this is isn't. By the 10th track I have to start skipping through. I'm considering changing my rating system now. Heretofore, I've been rating based solely on my own personal opinion of the music but I'm thinking now I'll also consider my onion of whether or not it should be on this list, and my opinion of the significance of the album at the time it was released. Lets try it out. After: 2 - my personal rating 1 - suitability for this list 2 - relevance ------------------------------ 2 - composite rating

ca va pour de l'éléctro

Best Song: Guilty of Love Might be ok if on molly at a rave, otherwise, it sucks. 2/5.

An aptly entitled album because if I wanted to destroy Rock and roll, I would definitely put this album on. Just because you can work a computer program and put a bunch of samples together does not make you a musician. I guess it's pleasant enough to listen to but what's the point?

Why is this on the list? It's not even good within it's genre.

Favourite Songs: Muscle Cars

#279/1001. Do you destroy rock and roll with mostly boring electronic music? I don't think so. There are others who did it much better in the IDM/ ambient/experimental electronic genre, and electronic artists who make you dance better. A 2 only because it is not rock.

Fluffy electronic music with cute remixes. Still feels like some of your friends are messing with you dj equipment.

For brief bursts, this is alright to be honest, but it's really relentless and basically brainless. I suppose I don't see why this is better, worse or the same as millions of songs that millions of people could make on a computer really? I do like the one where they name all the people, and like I say, for a little burst it's fine, but it's not really for me.

Was okay but a bit background music-y.

Wow! No! Best Song: Drop the Pressure Rating: 2.5/10 Stars: 2/5

This album was a real stinker. Super bland and generic, sounded like background noise, not something special. The title is all hype, as the music is lifeless, boring, repetitive house beat that gets annoying fast. The whole vibe is weak, and with no catchy tunes, 55 minutes felt like forever. The worst part is how it messes with good samples. Songs like "In My Arms" and "Drop the Pressure" have cool 80s vibes, but they get lost in a boring structure. It's a bummer to hear stuff from Kim Carnes or Boy Meets Girl ruined like that. Honestly, it's an old-fashioned piece of 2000s UK electronica that doesn't belong on a "1001 Albums" list but somewhere a music journalist most likely declared this the future of music and it was forgotten inside of a week.

I enjoyed some of this. I had to skim through some of the songs with repetitious clips of people talking. Otherwise, not awful during my workout and at times pleasant.

Could be worse.

What is the good of dance music if it doesn’t make you feel like dancing? This felt like an art project gone awry. Not a fan. Added “Valley of the Dolls” to the Generator playlist. At least that one doesn’t have the same spoken words over and over in a loop.

Started out fine but ultimately devolved into repetitive blahness. If it were just the first 3-5 tracks, it would’ve been a great album.

I sort of have a soft spot for dance music like this but after listening to all of that, all I can say is that I’m extremely bored of hearing the same thing again and again with these artists. This is definitely an album I could do without listening to before I die. Be more creative please

I dug the first two tracks well enough, especially the downtempo “Sunworshipper”. That one and “Guilty of Love” actually attempt to do something interesting arrangement-wise. Past that, it drifts very much into something I don't enjoy. “Musclecar” in particular was a chore to sit through. 2/5

The cover of this album looks familiar to me, but the rest does not, which is unsurprising for this genre. Here goes... This sounds like background music from a video game. I didn't hate it but it's not my genre.

not my thing tbh

Did I really need to hear this album before I die? Nope.

Didn't destroy rock & roll, just any good impression I might have of the album.

It started all right, with a couple of tracks that sounded like they could be abstract hip-hop. Unfortunately it quickly devolved into a boring dance / house mix that was already irrelevant in 2004. There's nothing original or innovative here ; it's good clubbing music, but not much else. Maybe I'd listen while painting my garage. Easy to listen, but ultimately a bit pointless. The only reason I didn't give it a 1* is because it didn't actively annoy me. There is so much great electronic music out there, why pick this snoozefest instead ?... 3/10

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would

hm maybe in a certain time, or in a certain place, or under the influence of a certain set of substances. But otherwise hard to take a full album of this.

some bopping, some boring

lol MOTHER FUCKERS MOTHER FUCKERS MOTHER FUCKERS GONNA DROP THE PRESSURE HAHAHAHAHA This is a silly and 8-bit like album and it was fun. 2.5

The title does not get my attention. News flash: Rock n' Roll is alive and well. Good for club dancing, maybe? Not my cup of tea.

This was like daft punk sounds without the songs. Sometimes there'd be a promising lick and it would then just repeat ad-finitum until it had become truly boring. The overall sound felt like that generic well produced dance music that is a bit less nauseating than some, but without the tunes and hooks to bring it round it never really became good, this was exacerbated by the mash up cover thing of Bette Davis eyes and in my arms where I knew what the hooks were but neither arrived and what was left was a good riff that got played so.much it stopped being good. It's not exactly a 2, but it's a low 3. Having said that I don't need to ever hear it again. I'll go high 2.

In no way has this destroyed rock and roll or influenced anything to destroy rock and roll. There were aspects of this album that felt super bland and there were aspects that I was grooving to. The fact that this is a 2004 record and isn't really anything interesting makes me really dislike that it's on this list. There are so many better albums out there, this really doesn't sound like it should have been on here.

Another uninspired electronic album from the early 2000s

Mainstream Rock & Roll died in the 2000's but I don't think Mylo gets the kill count for it. The songs worked well enough as background music but weren't really enough to sustain or reward a more attentive listening session. Has it's place I guess, wouldn't really say it is essential, but that goes for the majority of 2004 albums on this list. Namedropping a bunch of Muscle cars or better musicians also doesn't make for great lyricism.

Favorite track(s): all pretty milquetoast except for the title track and Musclecar Reform Reprise which are absolutely infuriating

Why are electronica albums so repetitive and so long?

2.5. Decent background music

I thought I was stroking out at different points

Do I need this record in my life? Absolutely not, that’s for sure. But was it unpleasant to listen to? No definitely not as well. I therefore cannot give it a 1 star review. But it would have been a killer album on the list ‘1001 albums with unremarkable background music you should listen to before you die’. Because it does that really well. 2/5

tastes like pink artificial sweetner

Lite weird men inte tillräckligt... En tvåa
