Reviews (page 4 of 8)
Honestly man? This was a major vibe. Certainly my favorite electronica to date. On the one hand, this is absolutely music that I could expect to hear playing in a Gap in some mall in a suburb. Then again, there were times I was seriously grooving. I’ll take that as a win. Fave songs: - Valley of the Dolls - Sunworshipper - Drop the Pressure - Rikki - Otto’s Journey - Musclecar (Reform Reprise) - Zenophile - Need You Tonite - Emotion 98.6
I think we should keep rock and roll because this is not great
Within a few days I've listened to two albums that reference David Bowie, but they're Americans who pronounce it "boo-ie". The other was Mothership by Parliament, so they got away with it.
Decent electronic music that gets off to a good start and lost my interest in the back half
Dated and inconsistant but fun
I’ve heard the name before but never really listened to Mylo. I liked this.
Like air and led soundsystem had a bb
Enjoyed it more than i thought i would
It’s an okay album for a DJ style sampling album. Only one song that was offensive. Kind of hard to believe he came from Skye.
Wasn’t familiar with this one. I’m sure it’s probably very important, but it doesn’t stand out to me. I already like music like this, so I’ll just listen to that stuff instead. It's better. Plus, the song Destroy Rock & Roll is obnoxious as hell... It's not as good as Madvillainy.
Kind of a slow start and finish for me, but I loved the run of Drop The Pressure/In My Arms/Guilty Of Love. The samples are nothing groundbreaking, but I like them. Fun album, bit too long.
Kind of dog it
Nett. Aber mehr leider nicht.
Thanks, but I already have Moby on CD.
5/10 I don't have time for this groove. 9-17-2025
Some songs in here I would listen to as a part of my daily playlists. Would I listen to the whole album on repeat often? No
Fun listen, some throwback hits. Destroy Rock & Roll was a very annoying song though, to the extend that it loses a star for me. Good to know I now recognise the names of many rock and roll artists though, thanks in part to this list. 3.5*
I got moderate enjoyment out of this. For something to hear while doing computer work, which are the conditions I usually listen in, it's pretty good, but it's not mind-blowing or something I would actively listen to, except maybe the fun title track, making the most of its sample.
Correcto
girl idk like who gives a shit
Smooth and uncomplicated. Other than stopping the entire album to deliver a statement in the form of boring and repetitious vocals (not to mention the instrumental), this was mostly good. Musclecar Reform and Reprise has got some goofy lyrics though.
It’s all sounds. Good sounds, for the most part! Opener ‘Valley of the Dolls’ gives strong “My (insert gender)-friend says this is what they think being a (insert gender) sounds like!” Useless commentary on my part for sure, but the idea lived on in my mind. So the electronic style here leans much more towards dance floor accompaniment than overtly grabbing. I like it for the most part, but can’t help but feel some tracks could’ve been edited down. That’s my feeling though. If Mylo intended for the listener to dance with the beat or have it on in the background, then the extended length might not be a negative thing. As it stands though, I feel the tracks here walk a middle ground between ear catching and ear… nothing?, with certain examples leaning heavier in one camp than the other. Think I’ll save a couple of these tracks for a big “my playlist” playlist, but as an album this one narrowly scores a three for me. Much more of a 2.5, but this is a whole star kind of town.
I didn't think I would enjoy that as much as I did. The entire album was pretty great, especially Emotion 98.6.
For an album called "Destroy Rock & Roll" it doesn't exactly live up to the name. Low 3. Fave song: Otto's Journey
For someone who wants to destroy rock and roll, Mylo does a masterful job replicating its aesthetic in dance. A bit of a tribute to and a riffing on the 80s culture, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy here, whether it be through light admonishing or head-banging bliss. Come in skeptical and depart satisfied. Favorites: Valley of the Dolls, Sunworshipper, Muscle Cars, Drop the Pressure, Paris Four Hundred, Destroy Rock & Roll, Zenophile, Need You Tonite, Emotional 98.6.
Surprisingly full of hits. There’s snippets of what would become lo-fi in here, too. Some of it is generic and forgettable, but there’s enough good stuff to make it a worthwhile listen.
I think this is a fairly decent dance album other than the title track. "Destroy Rock and Roll" is exactly what people make fun of when they want to trash this type of music, and they're right to. Lets just sample some guy talking and throw a basic four/four beat. Then repeat one line over and over in the middle because that's the build up. Trash. The rest of it is fine, but pretty boring. Every remix of "Drop the Pressure" I've heard is better than the original. The samples are all there but they don't really add much to the music, "In My Arms" excluded because the whole thing uses the Bette Davis Eyes hook. Not a lot to say about this; maybe critics attached themselves to this because it was a bit more clever than the generic house and trance music that was widely prevalent at the time in the greater electronic music genre.
I knew Drop the Pressure! Really this album is far to chill to have the word "destroy" in the title. Bouncy and fun but is this really one of the best albums of all time?
Fun dance music. Good for background music. No strong feelings about this one. Best song: Otto's Journey Notable(s): None
Chill
More techno/house than I would typically go for, but not bad.
I mean it’s good at what it is, whether you like it or not is a different matter. Sounds like a 100 poolside and overpriced late night bars I’ve visited on expenses
It's EDM, which for me is fine as background music but rarely rises above that. This album is pleasant enough to listen to.
redelijk verrassend soms helaas te veel loop
Destroy EDM.
Didn’t white destroy rock and roll but certainly had a few good grooves. 3/5
Actually way less of a chore to listen to than any of the other purely electronica albums this site has given me to date! I don't think I love it, or that I'll ever listen to it again, but I do feel a bit silly for putting it off.
i appreciated the sampling and it was a decent time to listen to, but ultimately, i found this to be a bit dull. i wish it was more exciting. i saw a lot of people raving about this one online, about how it's one of the best electronic music albums of all time, but i couldn't help but feel like it was lacking a lot for me to enjoy it.
Solid house album that falters after the title track. Not as bad as people say it is, though.
Given the title of the record I was expecting something a little more aggressive, or at least controversial. Just more background ambiance music. Title track was pretty catchy.
EDM is just not my genre. It was pleasant enough, and more sonically interesting than many others. Liked how the preacher pronounced Cyndy Lauper as Looper
Really enjoyed the 80's synth sounds and samples and the song "Destroy Rock & Roll" with the role call of musical acts....but a little goes a long way and it became boring quickly. Still, a fun, listenable album from an artist I had never heard of before.
I liked this a lot, these felt a bit less ambient than other electronic albums we've heard so far, almost like lyricless versions of songs I would've heard on the radio when I was younger (Calvin Harris/David Guetta era pop) so it felt kind of nostalgic in that way. Fav tracks: Destroy Rock & Roll, Otto's Journey
Very vibey, listened to it while job searching at aleishas house.
Fun, unfortunately a little forgettable in the world of music. It just lacks that pizzazz, you know?
Great sampling. The combo of upbeat danceable and cocktail lounge is pleasing to my ear. Reminds me of daft punk, in a good way. Will listen again
Got going after the first few generic tracks. It’s hard for me to get in the right mood for EDM… this is meant for a club, not my house at 8am.
A solid, slick and extremely well produced album. Takes a little while to get going, but the singles kick the second half up a notch. The challenge with electronic music on this list, though, is they sound dated even just 20 years later.
cool electronic album, timeless in a way
I haven’t listen to it in maybe 20 years but it’s still not a bad record. Nothing very new but the way he uses well known samples is still amazing. The rest of the tracks are not that great though.
Ludique et créatif, mais les répétitions de motifs, surtout de paroles, et les «scratchs» simulés m'ont vraiment irritée
A decent album. Definitely not anything mind blowing for me, but it was decent background music and was inoffensive. Not bad but I probably won’t revisit this album anytime soon.
It's OK, some of the tunes are great and popular long standing songs. Not hugely my thing though, bit like a weaker daft punk.
3 stars I was skeptical when I saw this one. I knew nothing of it, but my experience with electronic/house music on here so far has been mid. But I was pleasantly surprised. The music is catchy and easy to listen to. There isn’t anything insufferable. And the tracks are brief. It doesn’t feel like a slog where all the tracks blend together. That being said, I don’t know if it’s a must listen before I die. But I’ll return to it as nice background/study music.
This was either lofi hip hop radio beats to relax/study to (shout out to the anime girl and her cat stuck in a time loop relaxing/studying forever), or one or two bpm faster than that but basically the same thing. I could hardly think of less essential listening, but I like this kind of thing fine, so ehh.
Mal öppis anders, mit dä Ziit aber ächli eintönig
soooo amazing
Enjoyed this more than I expected. Pretty lightweight. Not exactly groundbreaking, but pleasant background to working.
Didn’t listen to the whole thing but fw the vibe, sort of beachy
# Playlist Track - Drop the pressure # Notes - Most tracks are OK. There are groovi-ish beats and fun moments, but most samples with voices are just boring and overdone. If all speech samples were taken out, this would be a 4 stars pick. - The title track is especially boring and uninspired. - Rock & Roll is perfectly safe, but disco music might have just taken a hit from this one.
• 3/5 • it’s fine, but nothing that really stands out • curious why it made the list
I did enjoy the sermon sample lol
Solid electronic album with smooth vibes and a consistent mood. Not really into all the spoken-word samples. Best song: In My Arms
Music while driving
Really good beats here, but adding vocals detracted from most of the songs that had them. Might have rated this higher if it was all beats, but it was still good and enjoyable, just could have been better.
M,eh, ok dance I guess but boring
Feels familiar somehow. Kinda beach vibes, sunscreen type thing. Pretty chilled and mellow and feels a bit nostalgic. Seems to just be living off ‘Drop The Pressure’ and it’s a kinda good track but nothing amazing. Always thought it was Daft Punk! Is a daft punk vibe throughout, actually and quite a naughties nostalgia to it all. Nothing amazing, enjoyable enough (3.5)
a sign of a good artist is when 6 out of their top 10 most streamed songs on spotify are the same song song. drop the pressure far the best on this album how'd blow up so much? theres some cool stuff on here but its overall pretty unremarkable
good background music actually didnt drive me mentally insane like most electronic music does. AND SO I TOOK OFF ON MY BICYCLE
Strange, but enjoyable.
200s electronica. Remixes and samples old songs he liked. Easy to listen to but nothing special.
I didn’t dislike this, but even assuming the title is tongue in cheek, calling an album Destroy Rock & Roll raises your expectations for something more exciting than “all back to mine” post-club background music.
Funky and weird but I like it
instrumental, pleasant
As someone who enjoys this genre it was a fine album, but I couldn't in good faith include it on a must listen list before you die. As a fan of Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes" and Boy Meets Girl "To Catch a Falling Star", I really enjoyed "In My Arms", but the rest of the album just became a bit of a trivia quiz of trying to suss out which 70s and 80s classics were being mixed together for each track. I suspect Mylo is a big fan of Daft Punk.
Pretty enjoyable electronic/house album. I'm not a huge house fan, and that's pretty much all this album is, but it's ok. Not something I'll listen to again, but it was an ok experience.
Couple of good hits and good ambient album
Not a huge fan of atmospheric stuff, but this one I liked, nice chill vibe with a few fun samples peppered into it.
3-
Pleasantly surprised by this album. Definitely still has some lower EDM points, but the songs are all reasonably short unlike other electronic albums. A lot of the proto-lofi songs were very easy and relaxing to listen to. Would've been an incredible EP. Top tracks: Valley of the Dolls, Guilty of Love, Paris Four Hundred
This definitely didn’t destroy rock & roll. It is quite fun and great for playing in the background while you dance around the room though. Then why isn’t this a 4? I’ll tell you. I’m doing this list with a friend and Mylo decides to mention Pink Floyd but not R.E.M. on the title track. Giving my friend that kind of fuel won’t do Mylo any good as far as I’m concerned.
Liked it better than I expected, but not something I'll revisit.
I remember this being huge at the time but most of the tracks are very simplistic and repetative and it loses its way in the last third. It has some fun tracks though and a nice 80s vibe
Sorta generic? Although "Missing Persons, Duran Duran" may haunt me in my dreams. That being said, it wasn't bad enough to say I'll never listen again.
No me esperaba que este fuera el disco de "Turn me on" jajajaj. Varios temas suenan noventosos, otros medio relleno. Super olvidable. Nota: 2.7
this one was ok! i bobbed my head here and there
I grade these things on a curve. Legendary high budget albums I hold to a higher standard than lesser known artists. Also if I like an album from a genre I generally don't enjoy it gets more points for exceeding expectations. Is that the right way to do it? I don't really care! Preamble over, the vibes on this project are immaculate. It's mellow without droning, repetitive without overstaying its welcome and interesting without being abrasive. Running a 5k today that I did not prep for... this is going to be so perfect for my slow ass. Thanks Mylo! Update, too chill for running but I still enjoyed it.
Fun but won't listen again
Missing Persons Duran Duran
Decent electronic stuff but nothing special. I liked the “bike” track.
Interesting in parts
The aughts are my favorite decade of music (that I've lived through), so anytime an artist shows up who I've never heard before, I'm immediately skeptical. This is electronic music, so I already know it's going to get crapped on. And for some of it, deservedly so. Some of the tracks get SO repetitive with the vocals, "Sunworshipper" and the title track "Destroy Rock and Roll" in particular. But overall this was a bop. It reminded me of if The Avalanches (same era) had a handful of samples in a track instead of 100s. It's nothing remarkable, and wholly undeserving of being included in this list, but it was easy listening and something I can see myself returning to again. 3.5
2.75
Good for the afternoon
This seemed like average electronic music to me — nothing offensive to the ear but nothing really stood out as amazing. 3/5
I concur with the top comment: "There's no chance of this destroying rock & roll. It doesn't have the energy for that. It's just going to sit on the couch, baked out of its mind, and talk shit about rock & roll instead." Decent listen.
Reminded me a bit of daft punk but I liked this better.
Reminded me a bit of The Avalanches but nowhere near as inventive or interesting though pleasant enough dinner party background music.
Rock & Roll is safe… but as electronic jams go this was pretty chill and ok. I didnt hate it and might actually put it on if I’m stoned and need some background grooves.
From a genre that I don't care for and is not for me, this was enjoyable enough. Pleasant background music.
Enjoyable-enough background energy. When electronic albums could be clever, compact, and personality-driven instead of maximalist festival fuel. Zenophile.
I enjoyed a couple tracks like In My Arms and Guilty Of Love but I don't think this belongs on the list, as it's not super out of the ordinary or ahead of its time. At least it's better than Daft Punk though
Enjoyable despite being fairly repetitive.
Scottish. Fuck Electronica. Fuck Truth be said though, this isn't too terribly bad. I mean, it isn't great. It's like minimalist electronica. But I can tolerate it, unlike most Scottish music. Someone commented that this sounds like if Air and The Avalanches had a very uninteresting child, and I feel like that's exactly what this sounds like. Favorite songs: Drop the Pressure, Destroy Rock & Roll, Otto's Journey, Paris Four Hundred, In My Arms, Zenophile Least favorite songs: Guilty of Love 3/5
Tää oli aika kiva! Paikotellen tommosta vähän daft punkin mieleen tuovaa hommaa. Tasapainoinen ja ihan nastaa samplaamista. 3/5
I was excited bc the rolls haven't had a more recent dance album in a bit but idk i'm left kinda neutral on this. I'm not sure if it's a situation of this album not being as novel as it was when it released since there's so so many good sample-focused house records out there since its release and before too, it may have hit better if I found this earlier. I'm sure it had its moment, and there's some tracks that i'd be into hearing in a club, but overall few tracks stand out to me now. Still i might come back to the some songs i did like.
Initial impressions after first two tracks, this is very tame and easy listen, is the album title ironic or sarcastic? Was expecting something more biting who are the missing persons so repeated in the title track? lol Its a pretty chill album. Is it DEST ROYR OCK& ROLL or DROR EOCO SYKL TR&L? https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQc676lFJBfqmlQnJKCHXRja36BTxXtyv2a7lY6xq7dBiTRWilCeP-pT0I-mjMCSzHDoLE&usqp=CAU
For me Destroy Rock & Roll by Mylo lands bang in the middle. It’s an album that neither blows me away nor leaves me fuming. it’s just there, a middle-of-the-road kind of record. There are definite moments on this record that catch your ear. Mylo's production is crisp, and the electronic beats are punchy and inventive. Some tracks have this infectious energy that makes you want to nod along, and the overall sound is polished with a catchy vibe that fits neatly into the early 2000s electro scene. The album’s experimental edge shows a willingness to mix genres, and there are flashes of brilliance where the synth work and samples come together nicely. On the flip side, a lot of the album feels a bit generic and doesn't really push any boundaries. While the production is solid, it sometimes lacks that extra spark or distinct personality that would make it truly memorable. The hooks are serviceable but not outstanding, and by the end, you’re left feeling that it’s more of a background record than something you’d actively seek out. The overall vibe is pleasant enough, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impression. To be completely honest, there’s really nothing to love about Destroy Rock & Roll, but there’s also nothing to hate. It’s not the kind of album that will get you fired up, nor is it one that will make you want to hit the skip button immediately. I wouldn’t rush to turn it off, but I also wouldn’t go out of my way to put it on. It just sits in that comfortable middle ground. A decent listen if you're in the mood for something unobtrusive, but nothing that truly stands out in a crowded musical landscape. In my perspective, Destroy Rock & Roll by Mylo is a decent record that does its job. It’s well-produced and catchy enough to fill in the gaps, but it ultimately lacks the oomph to make it a standout album in my collection. For me, it scores a straightforward 3/5 stars. Perfectly average and perfectly unremarkable.
its okay there's other albums that are of the time, i'm being accosted by oomf for this. They're going to execute me on the eve of september 15th. Watch.
Nice bit of mellow house, like the piano’s involvement but think some tracks are too repetitive.
If I'm going to get through 1001 records in record time I need to execute swiftly and judiciously. It doesn't help to rumble across indeterminate territory traversing throwback mashups that evoke and eschew the entire electronic aesthetic from the last few decades. I get the sense that this guy Mylo sought to slag out the whole disco-Daft Punk loving world with a monolithic effigy, like telling your dog in a sweet, loving voice, "You m-f-ing little sh-it, etc..." I mean that's literally one of the songs. The judgement of the sacred fire, especially Cyndi Looper.
Pretty good electronic album. Not really what I'm into, but enjoyable none the less.
Feelin like dropping the pressure right about now
Fun music to listen to while you do homework or something!
Prima, als geheel niet heel bijzonder
Not bad electronic & sample based music. Didn’t grab me but didn’t mind it. Just alright.
Maybe I'm just feeling generous since the other electronic albums I've listened to for this project were just awful, but this wasn't too bad. It won't destroy rock & roll for sure, but at least it was somewhat enjoyable and didn't annoy the hell out of me. 3.5 stars
A few good tracks.
I like the more upbeat tracks, but when this moves towards downtempo, I think it is boring. 3 stars
Decently fun album
It was alright. Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Low 3
Heard someone describe this as dance music Ramones and I guess that kind of sums it up in a way though it's massive disservice to the Ramones. It's direct and to the point. Each song is an idea and a direction and i
Up in the clurb, we all fam.
I like having Electronic music albums on this list. This one is a bit too bland tho.
enjoyable listen, not what i would expect to receive from 1001 closing track was quite pretty he really did say "jack cougar mellencamp" huh
A fun album. It sounds good and has a nice production. Very creative to take inspiration as a keyboard inspired album.
Some of it was great. Some of it was grating and annoying. Much of it was in between.
Has a interesting sound but not for me mate.
probably should have liked this 20 years ago but missed it
As the person in our group who probably listens to the most music in this genre, I can say I genuinely enjoyed this. It’s definitely different from some of the dance/EDM music of more modern day but has a lot of the same ideas of using samples and edits to make ridiculous beats at a constant BPM that still flow like a song while also sounding entirely different. One of the problems with this genre is that it can come off as repetitive and while newer artists (Daft Punk among others in the more “EDM” space) have done a better job limiting the repetitiveness of it all while still maintaining the electronic dance beat throughout, I felt Mylo had some songs that were entirely repetitive (Destroy Rock & Roll and Muscle Car) and reminded me of something like Ready, Steady, Go by Paul Oakenfold (a great song but also insanely repetitive). That being said, for what this album is and what it does, I enjoyed it. Zenophile and Need You Tonite were fantastic and have added them both to my electronic playlists to listen to them again. In My Arms was pretty good too and is the most popular song from the album, but it sounds like something that would be on a video game loading screen so it loses a few point with me there. All in all a solid album for a genre that can be VERY hit or miss.
Enjoyed it. Boppy and funky
Interesting, not what I was expecting, but some of the songs were annoying too. Prolly a soild 3
At its best this is a nice of mixture of sounds, reminiscent of Moby on some tracks, Air on others. There are a couple of particularly memorable songs, Sunworshipper and the Judie Tzuke sampled Need You Tonight. In other places the music noodles along pleasantly enough without really hitting the spot
Could see me having this on in the background in the future. Wasn’t sure about the titular song though!
Very chill vibes would add to chill playlists easy listening
Mid. Inoffensive but unseasoned
Was not expecting dance album on this list and pleasantly surprised. A remix of muscle car has always been a guilt pleasure since I first heard so again, pleasantly surprised to hear the original and the songs it was originally packaged with. Fun album
Some of these tracks were fine, others straight obnoxious. In general, every track is one riff repeated over and over. I don't understand dance music.
I enjoyed this, but probably wouldn’t listen to again
Forgot about Drop the Pressure but overall found the album as a whole kind of medium but that may be due to the genre?
Not sure this one has the power to destroy rock &roll... Nevertheless, I didn't hate it, but I also wouldn't listen to this one again.
Trip hop meets easy listening. Elevators have never been so funky. Not really my bag, but good for what it is, I suppose.
Really thought I was gonna hate this after the first track but it turned around quickly. Glad to hear Weird Al mentioned
this one was in the older brother rotation as a kid and i certainly do enjoy the singles (in my arms is really killer) but yeaaa i dont think this one quite lived up to my memories!
I wouldn’t say this is “destroying” anything, but it’s fine. Not something I’d listen to on my own, and not something I “needed to listen to before I die”, but nice as background music.
Unique, funky, upbeat electronic record that's reminiscent of other electronic releases of this era. Haven't heard of this before, but it's decent.
Few good songs, lots of elevator music.
7/10 This list seems to have basic taste, I know a bit about electronic music and remember this one at the time. It is one of those albums that appeals to a pretty broad audience but has almost no edge or innovation. Don’t get me wrong: it’s nice, well put together, good samples, good influences, but it feels like he pulls a lot of punches. It almost never gets truly hard or aggressive. A lot of this feels deeply derivative of Royksopp - if they have nothing on this list then it’s a travesty that this is on instead
Kinda fresh but I got really annoyed at that one flute song halfway through
Not as bad as I expected.
This sort of album is over represented on the list if you ask me. It was fine. Last song was good.
It's a good electronic album and quite freaky, with some radio success which, by the way, aren't the best tracks the album offers. I think the album title is not suitable for rockers that want to get curious about electronic music.
Прикольно, но до конца я не дослушала
Honestly, this was better than I was expecting going into it.
This album sure is inconsistent, but damn when it gets going it like really gets going. There are many moments that are annoying and long, but they are mostly made up for by other moments that sound absolutely fantastic.
3.5
I enjoyed a lot of it, but there were parts that were annoying
Hm, interesting! A decent album to have on in the background for working and doing chores.
Some fun tracks on this. I still feel like the EDM music I enjoy has a little more energy or goes harder a bit. 3.5 goin down.
Interesting but not really for me
Mostly a chill lounge album which sometimes rises to be a bit more, but never quite becomes memorable. An enjoyable listen, but it leaves no lasting impression on me. I may remember 'Destroy Rock & Roll' for its use of the sermon Standouts Valley of the Dolls Destroy Rock & Roll 3/5
Alright to listen to while I worked - but I would query it's inclusion on this list. Not really groundbreaking and kind of forgettable
But I like rock and roll! I don't want to destroy it! Fortunately, this album was not responsible for the destruction of rock and roll. And why would it be? It's not like this album is good enough to do that, right? Well, it isn't. I'll say that. However, I don't hate this album. This Mylo album is FAR from the worst electronic album I've heard. I think that this album isn't bad and is, dare I say it, actually good. I don't love it, but I respect it. There really isn't much to focus on in writing, so I'll just talk about the sound. It's good. It grabbed some of my attention. I wasn't hooked on it for the whole 55 minutes, but I wasn't eagerly waiting for the album to end. The songs are alright. I guess that's what I'd call this album... alright. It's not my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal of this. Good job Mylo, you made an electronic album that I'm not upset by the inclusion of. I wouldn't include this on the list myself, but I'm not outraged like I was for something like Haunted Dancehall, because this album at least made me feel something. Light 3/5.
Drop the Pressure was great, the rest half decent.
Meh. Generic electronica.
Fun little album, a couple tidy tracks like Otto's Journey and In My Arms and always loved Drop the Pressure. Could use a length cut for some tracks where the spoken samples get trying.
Decent electronic music, not too repetitive. I don't know the context of the spoken word part of the title track, but based on the artists/bands, I can tell you exactly what year it was - 1984.
Great trashy fun. Cyndi Looper, David Booie, Bruce Springsteen et al. Not everything has to be deep and meaningful. Points for Judie Tzuke sample too. 3.5 really but not a four. Should it be on this list, possibly not and I am guessing there's some spitting the dummy over it. But I have to now listen to the Kings of Leon's second album on this list and that is two too many. So chill.
I like this. Good DJ vibes but also just interesting rock vibes. Sunworshipper was good and so were a few others. Listened to it twice. Worth another listen.
Middle of the road DJ stuff
Meh
Interesting. but not extremely good.
Drop The Pressure // In My Arms //
If you like well organized techno beats that include lists of vehicles and famous musicians, this might be for you. It occasionally for the foot tapping, but does not need to be listened to in full.
Not bad at all. This seemed somewhat irreverent and it definitely had my head bobbing. Solid, fun DJing.
Clean polished and a solid listen, only one track really stands out — drop the pressure . The sound is generally enjoyable just doesn’t offer standout in the 2024 climate it helped build
ok dance
Alright, it peaked in the middle, then faded to the end
Probably doesn’t deserve to be here, but it’s good for what it is.
After Frankie Goes to Hollywood.....this one wasn't so bad.
Bright ear candy out of the gate on Valley of the Dolls. Plays like music to take a stroll to -- both synth-poppy and bubblegum. Sunworshipper affects a dustier aura with some familiar downtempo drums + keys. Muscle Cars is an abrupt shift into more typical "techno" sounds -- Tron-like bleeps with a higher RPM high-hat/snare. Paris Four Hundred is a familiar, but very well-executed Autobahn-inspired jam -- hard not to enjoy its propulsiveness. The album's namesake is a simple exercise in boom-bap with a repeated vocal sample calling our inspirations. Otto's Journey taps into a Daft Punk aesthetic and does a great job of running with it. I found this to be an enjoyable enough listen that lacked umph to really command my attention. All of the songs were solid and concise, but rarely extended on a given concept. To summarize, fine but forgettable. Soft 3 / 5.
I've only heard Drop The Pressure from Parcels covering it. That was decent I had it on in the background while working and found myself jamming here and there, but a lot was just background music. Still fun.
3/5. I am a fan of electronic dance music but this wasn't anything crazy. It was fun but don't know if this will be a repeat listen for me. The samples and lyrics were arguably the best part, especially the one on Destroy Rock & Roll. Like these are good beats here and mostly not overcomplicated and straightforward, but I don't think there is enough diversity to not get repetitive sometimes. Still something I wouldn't skip if it came on. Best Song: Destroy Rock & Roll, Drop The Pressure, Musclecar (Reform Reprise)
Surprisingly decent. Only works as background music for me, but was fun.
3.5
Interesting music. I did like the preacher song saying the names of the bands/artists just a bit wrong. lol Nothing of this jumped out at me as particularly interesting or worth picking up frequently. It wasn't bad, just bland.
"Drop The Pressure" and "In My Arms" are definetly a blast from the past. Rest was allright but a tad boring
Sold mid 00s edm
Cool
remember this being good, haven't listened to it for years! Still pretty good, interesting samples and beats. Doesn't have enough for a whole classic album, but otherwise plenty of choice tracks scattered in there. 3.5
At first , I thought this was lo-fi. But now i think it’s techno. Some of it was good. Some of it was a little weird. Overall, I enjoyed it.
idk why you guys had such a viscerally negative reaction to this one, I thought it was fine? Not super exciting but made for decent background music while I did a fantasy football draft. Title track is hot ass though
I liked it but it’s not an essential album
Fun little album with some nice tracks. 'Drop the Pressure' felt somewhat familiar and 'In My Arms' was a nice use of an older popular song sample. Blends into the background a bit by the end, but had a good time listening.
I liked it! Some solid edm tunes here that are fun to listen.
Didn't hate it. How's that for a ringing endorsement?
Kinda not that interesting.
Ni fu ni fa
Diverting but inconsequential.
"Destroy Rock & Roll" is the first and only album by Scottish record producer Mylo (Myles MacInnes). The listed genres are house and electro pop. That'll work. The album notably samples many 1970 and 1980 soft rock samples. Commercially, it reached #26 in the UK. "Valley of the Dolls" opens the album with keyboards, a synth background and a dance beat. I believe the melody and vocals sample the Sandpipers' "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." This is definitely easy listening. The first single "Muscle Cars" also has a dance beat and a wobbly synth. The beats picks up to this catchy song. "Drop the Pressure" has a bouncey beat and a very 80's sounding beat. The entirety of the lyrics is a vocoder recording of Mylo saying "Motherfucker's gonna drop the pressure." Somehow, it works. "In My Arms" layers samples of Kim Carnes' "Better Davis Eyes" and Boy Meets Girl's "Waiting for a Star to Fall." The most interesting sampling was done in "Destroy Rock & Roll." It's a sample from a preacher of the New Age organization Church Universal and Triumphant who denounces essentially all pop artists from 1984 including Cindy Looper and Patt Smyth and Scandal. I almost wanted to put on "The Warrior." The music on this album is soft, easy, very pop sounding and also catchy. There's lots of synths and Mylo keeps the dance beats simple and different between songs. Most of these songs are very lightweight and rock & roll has no fear of being destroyed. I thought the last few songs were the most interesting and sounded more modern like Daft Punk. Overall, a fun listen once through.
Not iconic, original or influential. It’s not awful but I cannot understand why it’s here.
Never quite a classic imo but does stand up well. Still like it, still sounds clean
I've never heard of Mylo or this album before, but the description makes it sound like this is the type of album I'd enjoy, so I'm excited to give this a go. Overall, this album was fine. I liked what Mylo was trying to do, taking soft rock songs he liked as a kid and turning them into house music songs. I have a nostalgic feeling towards some of the same music, so the overall concept of the album was easy to relate to for me. I felt that the songs that stood out to me were really great: "Valley of the Dolls," "In My Arms," "Guilty of Love," and "Need You Tonite." I really enjoyed the way these songs utilized samples. These songs never felt like they were over reliant on the samples, and used them as another musical element. I'm a big sucker for "Bette Davis Eyes" and "Waiting For A Star to Fall," so "In My Arms" was far and away my favorite track on the album. The majority of the album though was just fine, and I didn't find anything particularly noteworthy about the songs that weren't my favorites. However, I do appreciate that the songs didn't meander along for a really long time. I did like the concept of the title track though; I thought it was a really unique idea to use a speech denouncing popular music to craft a song (who would denounce Weird Al?), and the end result was catchy and weirdly unsettling. Overall, this album was pretty middle of the road for me, and its inclusion on this list is a little bit of a head scratcher in my opinion.
Lo-fi and electronic music seems to be my flavor right now. Good first listen.
Yeah...nice enough background music for polite clubbing or one of those dinner parties where chaps think it's clever to talk smack about jazz and quote Anthony Wilson at you.
Background music
'In My Arms' was a massive hit back in the day. Though it's kind of feels lost to history now, it holds up surprisingly well. The rest of the album is decent with some occasional strong tracks. 'Drop the Pressure' and 'Paris Four Hundred' are fun and danceable. The title track reappropriates a fire and brimstone preacher by twisting his words into a celebration of popular music. Ultimately though, 'Destroy Rock & Roll' isn't particularly memorable as an album. Daft Punk does the style better. Fatboy Slim does humor better. Loads of artists do sampling better. Despite that, it's a decent album with a few highlights and one great song. But you probably didn't really need to hear it before you die.
60/100 This has some very strong Electro tracks but the quality is all over the place. It's a shame because some of the ideas here are great.
Bland but not bad.
Repetitive at times, but over decent. Good background music
Couple really good songs on here, but near the end it got boring. Shame.
Rating: 6.5/10 Good electronic album, a lot of songs are pretty meditative and laid back. Quite a few songs on this album sound like stereotypical electronic music but the highlights are quite good. Favorite songs: Valley of the Dolls, Sunworshipper, Muscle Cars, Drop the Pressure, Guilty of Love, Emotion 98.6. Worst song: Destroy Rock & Roll.
Not even a remotely important album, but it was an ok listen for a long drive running errands.
Never listened to this before, but I have heard of Mylo. Pretty good so far, nice chilled out electronica, á la Air, Lemon Jelly, or the Orb. Once I got to "Drop the Pressure", I realised why I recognized this; some of these songs were ubiquitous back in the day. I enjoy a good mash-up every now and then, and had a minor obsession with Girl Talk when I was in college. Some of this is really inventive. Sunworshiper and Musclecar have good instrumentals, while Drop the Pressure and In My Arms are real earworms. But overall it kind of feels like the musical equivalent of junk food - style over substance.
first listen couple of dope tracks, but not enough substance overall
It was fine
Electropop worth to listen once or twice.
Throwaway sample high DJ album. Like the Judy Tzuke one but then I liked the original. Ok
yeah whatever
A couple good dance-y electronic tracks
3.5. The first track is grating but it's a delightful Sunday afternoon listen
Mylo could be regarded as a forerunner of the Swedish artists that would dominate EDM/dance music in a few years’ time (such as Swedish House Mafia and the late Avicii). And in that sense he’s significant, but otherwise this is a fairly routine album with a few clever sample.
I bought the CD when it came out. It was a three star album then. Same now. Drop the pressure, sunworshipper and in my arms are pretty good tracks. The rest are ok.
Quite enjoyed this tbf, some bits I sort of recognised, but overall something nice to work to on a sunny day!
Hell of a title to be the savior of dance music. Drop the Pressure seems to be the highlight but it isn't the highlight at all. It's fun but nothing to revisit.
muzika za cekaonu osim one najpopularnije
Not for me but pretty good electronic music
A bit like the Throbbing Gristle album, but these guys went, "Hey, what if we made it good and fun?"
2.5/5
This album was interesting. Not something I would normally listen to but I enjoyed it.
5/10. Good beats. Fairly impressive for this type of music, but this type of music simply doesn’t hit me usually. I enjoyed some beats but prefer bands/instruments.
What a weird title for an album that more celebrates (soft) rock & roll than attempts to destroy it. I didn't know what to think about this album and I probably still do not. Very pleasant listen, the sort of album that you put in the background when doing work. I could have used more vocals on some of the songs, but overall an interesting listen. I tend to gravitate towards this type of laid-back electronica, so this is a sound that I am prone to enjoying. Do I wonder, yet again, why this album is in the book? Eh, probably. I am not complaining by any stretch of the imagination and though I think music like this works best on an EP. In fact, some of my favorite (what I call) beach electronica artists are best heard on EP. I don't know why that is, yet I prefer to hear the music in that format. Overall, a good listen and this is probably going on my list of electronic synth-heavy instrumentation I listen to.
Review to come
This list has been heavy on British electronic music that hasn’t resonated with me but this album was much more enjoyable. I am a fan of house music so despite the length, I enjoyed this quite a bit, especially though headphones. It’s not particularly groundbreaking, but it was a fun listen.
quite fresh, minimalistic, nice background music YNN
Mfr's going to talk under pressure
2.5
Honestly I enjoyed most of this album. I do like house music that dips into the ambient electronic side. However I did need to skip a few songs, the title track and Musclecar were unbearable. I might have given this 4 stars if not for those tracks.
I found myself grooving along at my desk and enjoyed most of the album. I admit I cut a couple tracks short when they got too repetitive (ex. title track).
Ok dance music. Not sure if i'd listen to it again.
Perfectly fine ambient music. Something I could probably program to. But not something I'd choose to listen to, at least not most days.
Better than I was expecting, but hardly inspiring.
This album will never be the destoyer of Rock n Roll. It does however contain some pretty melow sounds, think elevator or cafe background music. It would be good background music for a lazy weekend afternoon with a few beers 2.5
I mean people making fun of it for the title clearly didn't listen. its making fun of that sentiment. the music was just okay, chill stuff but nothing really significant
Very smooth and chill. Some tracks are very lo-fi, back before that was as well known as it is now. Most tracks, though, are more standard House-fare, but even those still have something distinct about them.
There was alot of beat which was fun for a run, but not as enjoyable for other settings. I liked the son where they just named a ton of musical artists the whole time. 2.5
typically speaking, I’m not big fan of electronic music, but this one was fun. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t very deep, nor do I think I’ll go back for another listen. 3/5
Solid electric. Clearly drawing a lot from Daft Punk, but reaches nowhere near the heights. Enjoyable 3.
Enjoyed at first. Too long and became repetitive.
Not sure how I have managed to hear a few of these before. Must have snuck into Napster/Limewire under different names. Not bad overall. Not essential, but not bad. The song Destroy Rock and Roll is a very clear reference to Daft Punk’s Homework. Not great. There are a few cute songs here. But most of this is pretty average. Not new or innovative. Too late in the game to be influential. It’s like easy-listening DJ music. If this intended to be the heir to Kraftwerk and 808 State, this is a poor example. This is fine, but there are better records that deserve this spot.

Never heard of Mylo. Overall some really great beats and vibes on this album, but nothing that really reached out and grabbed ahold of me. Cool album but ready to move on.
I was pleasantly surprised by this and particularly enjoyed Drop the Pressure and In My Arms. While nothing was too offensive, I didn’t care for Destroy Rock & Roll (the track); spoken word in music can be ok, but this was too repetitive and continuous.
Not bad, but not my typical kind of music
On paper, this sounded right up my alley. It didn't quite live up to my expectations, though, and I was left feeling kind of empty. Too bad.
I surprisingly enjoyed this album, being that it was a dance/electronic album. It was a good balance of keeping me engaged and enjoying what I was listening to Top tracks: Drop The Pressure, Need You Tonite
3. Some were okay, others too repetitive
I think the underlying music is great, however a lot of the vocal samples used are tedious or completely take away from the music itself. Overall it’s ok.
I felt that it had some good moments in here. Sometimes the voice track got a little repetitive during a song but it had a nice rhythm and it felt good.
Not bad for an electronica album; it's like a more sophisticated version of music made in Garage Band. The isolated electronic loops create a focused sound, like placing a single painting in a completely empty room. The way audio recordings are incorporated into the rhythm of the tracks is also interesting.
It's a "vibe". I'm not a big fan of spoken word over music so there are a few tracks I didn't enjoy, but overall there's something here. If you like chill hop or click hop and slower tempo electronics you'd probably enjoy this.
Solid stuff. A lot of songs I’d completely forgotten about snd s very good outro track.
Some not to bad tunes. Might actually reexplore in the future. 3/5
not my most preffered but I can see why people may love or hate it
Smack bang on 3. Pleasant but kinda pointless sounds.
Most of this felt like what they use these days to back certain kinds of mass produced "viral"-aspiring videos. Cooked down pop hooks. Nowhere has it been more apparent that this thing of using repeated spoken word bits as elements of composition is a dicey technique. It rarely works and usually detracts.
Nice

Wertung: 3/5
A couple of recognisable hits. Not bad really. A bit generic at times but it's 2004 so I'll let him off.
Beeps and whistles along, more interesting making LoFi sounds than up beat dance tracks which lack distinctiveness, not special enough.
its alright, some songs seem a bit pretentious on the whole destroy rock & roll theme but they are never bad
There's 4 or so pretty cool tracks here, the rest isn't my cup of tea but overall yea not bad. It does seem like I'm marking everything 3/5 though. Marks out of ten would definitely had allowed for more specific ratings.
Feels a bit dated now
Not a bad album, but not great either.
This was another very unique album that I found more interesting than enjoyable. The house beats and electronica sounds were fine but not mindblowing, but this album uses some of the oddest samples I've ever heard. The list of "deviant" bands on destroy rock and roll made sense thematically but the earlier one about some hippie that rode their bike to eureka california was just weird. It sort of worked with the song but it was just so goofy to me. I thought Otto's Journey was a nice bit of ambient music though.
Disco at 2am — very spacey
Overraskande bra
Nothing really wrong with this... I wouldn't mind listening to it, but it doesn't seem especially extraordinary to me. Maybe it was one of the first albums like this, but this kind of stuff is all over the place now.
Pretty good.
The Prince "EH" on Guilty of Love got an LOL out of me. Honestly up until that song I was bopping along pretty hard with this album. but this, Paris four hundred and the title track are hard duds. Oh my god what in the fuck the intro to Rikki made my ears feel super weird and idk if I like it or not? that was crazy. I'm probably not gonna add any of these songs but I'm glad I listened to it 1001 albums thanks. It reminded me of Kaytranada's 99.9% album so just for that it gets an average rating....
Tulee röyksopp mieleen. Tosi letkeetä, mut ehkä vähän hissimeno. Sillai piq persoonatonta. Mut ihan menevää.
Kam etwas schwer rein, wurde aber immer besser ab 9./10. Song, also vor den Remix Wdh.s
Mylo displays all the telltale signs of a man who doesn't quite know how to sneeze properly. This inconsistent record focuses too much on trying to look down its nose at those who like pop music and not enough time is spent trying to discover who Nigel Spackman really is.
well! mylo's destroy rock & roll was cool! i found it to be an interesting, creative album that worked to make the sampled songs different. it was quite easy to listen to, despite the variety between the original songs. because of the variety, the music wasn't boring. gosh, the title track tied the whole album together with the repeating holier-than-thou message from the church universal and triumphant. damn, mylo!
I liked the first couple songs because of their creative sample use but this album just got worse as it dragged on. 5/10
About time for a good album and I enjoyed this so 3 easy *
It was alright
Good house album, but wish it had more oomph behind it. Not something I'd put on when I want to listen to a album, but chill background noises while you do anything else
Good ideas and some memorable soundscapes, but not consistent enough to be an above average album in my eyes. 3.5
Rock & Roll can destroy itself just fine, thank you. It doesn't need help from middlebrow house music. Still, the album is not without merit.
Eerder ontspannende house-muziek. Ik zie het niet direct als dansbaar, maar als een roadtripplaatje
I remember this album existing, but wasn’t expecting to recognise so many tunes on it (three, I think!) Doubts kept creeping in while I listened, like ‘what exactly qualifies this as a must-hear?’ and ‘isn’t this exactly the kind of music I used to hate??’ But in the end, I actually ended up enjoying it. There are some pretty bangin’ grooves, and some pretty groovy bangers, and crucially they’re served with a large dollop of playfulness. The title track does make me smile.
