Kinda liked it
Prett good
Hadn't really listened to anything but a few songs from this album before. Pleasantly surprised at how good it was
I wasn't familiar with this album (save for the singles) but I will definitely revisit it for a long, long time! A solid line-up with some real gems such as the toe-tapping I Know But I Don't Know. Will Anything Happen has that sound that some indie rock bands try to emulate to this day. Edgier than your typical new wave and just as refreshing today as (I assume) it was back then, despite being almost 45 years old! A very strong 4.
Always seems like a “Best Of” album. Superb pop music.
This album exceeded my expectations. I always saw Blondie as a band with just a handful of hits, but imagine my surprise that all of those hits are on the same album.
liked it
Great start with some all time classics. Couple of duds but overall a great album
Not a big fan but there are some classic songs.
Loads of classic tunes.
Such iconic songs. As a complete album, there are small amounts of filler, so not quite the full 5 stars. Would give it 4.5 if I could.
Listened before, own in my collection
I liked the deep cuts better than the known hits
A classic album that I’m glad to have finally heard all the way through. Heart of glass is a top 10 song (and the Miley Cyrus cover is pretty great too) and I also like one way or another (with a good 1D cover). I can’t quite give this a 5 but I liked it a lot
More punk than I thought. Heart of glass is the worst song on here.
Call Me
4,5/5
Classic
first song slaps. everything slaps. i love it
good
I've sometimes heard about "Blondie" in the past but never tried to listen to a complete album. However, listening to it, I know these songs: from movies, from the radio, from my childhood memory, from somewhere that I don't remember, but I know I've already listened to them. I think that even though not being exactly my cup of tea, these songs are the definition of classical songs. They keep in our memories even if we aren't aware of them.
I love Blondie - however they are one of those bands that write singles so well that they dwarf the record they are on - even though the album is a good one - you expect an ‘Heart of Glass’ and ‘Hanging on the Telephone’ at every turn. Amazing singles, Great Band, Ok Record.
New wave pop
Cool, 1st album came out when I was 3. 1st track is 'hanging on the telephone' - pretty much what I expected, Debby Harris' signature voice print, early 80's vibe to it. I'll give it a chance. finished the album, quite a nice feeling afterwards - notable tracks: one way or another, picture this, i'm gonna love you too.
Knew the big hits, but enjoyed the other tracks as well. Something I should come back to and listen to more.
massa o rockzao, tem uns clássicos até
a very catchy pop/rock album, with 2 bangers and the rest of the songs is alright
Great album. It inspired me to listen to their other early albums.
This was a fun one. I really enjoyed this. Not my usual genre but great listen top to bottom.
super fun album overall. I love the drive of the music, some iconic songs mixed with some unknown gems.
Good driving rock and roll, great vocals, some disco vibes at times too. Loved it.
epic
Pop rock
Pop Blondie is pop but good and fun and damned if you aren’t singing Heart of Glass for two hours after this
Such a great collection of songs
Swaaaaaaag
Just kind of a new wave classic…
Hååååårt pop-album
Just a wonderful album full of great songs. Energetic and memorable.
What a banger. More pop than i expected, with an occasional flair of punk and rock, but very smooth music and melodies. Easy and enjoyable listen... deborah harry's voice is great.
Good wibes. <3 blondie. Highlight: One way or another obviously.
Fun, upbeat, and easy to listen to. Nothing too daring or unique, but quite enjoyable.
Love the guitar and production
Good, couple popular, like the reggae track
1979 - 40 mins. Classics like Hanging on The Telephone, One Way Or Another, Sunday Girl, Heart of Glass. Other tracks had some nice guitars and vocals. Wasn't a big fan of I Know But I Don't Know.
i know one song
I actually loved it - pretty strong from start to finish with two big hits: "Heart of Glass" and "One Way or Another". 8/10.
Great pop vibe, mixed with the classic rock loved by many
first listen issss a bop
Classics and some lesser known surprises
Pop-rock. 2 megahits. Un 4.
Incredible punk/new wave. Love it
pretty solid power pop. at its best when it was more guitar heavy rock
Some fantastic hits on this album elevate it.
fun and vibrant. A much better experience than expected.
Goddamn, I knew Blondie had a few bangers but I didn't know they were so densely packed onto this one album.

One Way Or Another
So many classic songs on here.
1978. One Way Or Another, Heart Of Glass, Hanging On The Telephone
This is a great album that brings together numerous elements of popular genres and makes something entirely unique and special, from parts and pieces of things we've all heard before. Topping it all off is Debby Harry, a powerful and charismatic front woman, which even 40+ years later are still far too few and far between due primarily to the endemically flawed nature of both the music industry and how popularity works in our society. And yet, fortunately for all of us, all of these unlikely pieces fell into place. This album has a couple of new wave classics in "One Way Or Another" and "Heart Of Glass". I also enjoyed the tracks that veered from the formula of those hit tracks, specifically the darker vibe on the track "Fade Away And Radiate" and the ensemble rock sound of "I Know But I Don't Know".
Very good
I enjoyed this album more than I expected I would. I'd been familiar with the hits from this album and liked them, but I was never interested enough to give this or any of their albums a full listen all the way through. It's a really solid album. Made me realize (or re-realize?) just how darn good Debbie Harry's voice is. Wow. Oh, and Robert Fripp's guitar work is excellent on "Fade Away And Radiate". Glad this showed up. Great listen.
Good alt rock album
classic!
This was a really good album, many of the songs I recognized and didn't really notice any "bad" songs. Enjoyed it the whole way through and never felt like I was forcing myself to listen to them. Favourite Songs: One Way Or Another, Heart Of Glass,
Another one of those 'I grew up with this' albums.
Pretty great. Full of bangers.
I Thought this would be more pop than punk. Was pleasantly surprised. Favourites: "One Way Or Another", "Picture This", "I'm Gonna Love You Too"
Absolute classic new wave album. Super solid from start to finish. I love Debbie Harry's growly voice, instantly recognizable. The play between the synths and the punk guitar riffs give these songs a really catchy feel, and the energy here is contagious. I had no idea that Hanging on the Telephone was a cover - neat discovery from this session. Favourite tracks: Hanging on the Telephone, One Way or Another, Heart of Glass and Fade Away and Radiate
Very good album, Blondie's voice is very similar to Lady Gaga in some of the songs. Enjoyed this!
Listened Before? N This was a great listen! Debbie Harry had great range on this album. Everything from sugar-coated pop, to lounge-singer sultry, to punk rocker aggressive! I highly enjoyed it. Added to Library? Y Songs added to Playlist: Picture This, Heart of Glass
I liked this album. I was only mildly familiar with Blondie aside from the big hits. Listening to this was fun, probably would be better if it was at a party etc.
Pop music has never sounded so good, so cohesive, so danceable, and so consistent! I knew about the legacy of this record long before now, but actually having listened to it I know fully understand what makes it have such legendary status. Great listen. 4.5/5
Super stabiles New Wave Album. Einfach viele Hits, angenehmer Vibe, gutes Songwriting.
Great rock album! Big hits, great sound and energy, overall fun.
Blonde came out of the CBGB scene in New York City and as such this album reflects the pop rock and nascent New Wave influences of that time. This album is packed full of memorable songs driven by Debbie Harry’s powerful voice. The guitar and synth are both memorable and the melodies are great.
Hey, this was fun. Good tunes, not totally dated, cross between 70s punk and pop with a disco tune (which is the most dated song).
Feisty 80s pop-rock with a definite punk flavour. Some classic dancy hits here to grace any indie disco
Quite good. Actually heard of some of the songs. Good vibes
Toch wel een paar hits op dit album. Leuke pop met een rock-saus
Slaps hard
Délice Prefs: Hanging on the Telephone, One Way or Another, Picture This, Fade Away and Radiate, 11:59, Sunday Girl, Heart of Glass Moins pref: I Know But I Don't Know
When you're bored of Blondie you're bored of life.
Such tunes I didn't realize I loved Blondie this much! Gone down to a 4 as there were a couple of songs that I really didn't get on with, very close to giving this a 5
A great first two tracks had me excited to hear what else this album had. I got a little bored and lost in the middle. The hits I already knew are the only ones that resonated with me - Hanging On The Telephone, One Way Or Another, Sunday Girl, Heart Of Glass.
Sounds like a movie soundtrack :) Didn't know "one way or another" was their song!
It's an almost perfect pop album and personally I think Blondies best. With so many known songs songs it's almost a best-off album, and marks the moment where Blondie switched from their punkier side (still to be heard in Hanging On The Telephone) to their poppier side (One Way Or Another) to later do some more disco-ish sounds (Heart Of Glass) Unique pop album that captures the times well.
Schon geil, hat aber paar schwächere Lieder in der Mitte.
"One Way Or Another" the song that really defined this band is here. While this is definitely catchy and has been the theme song for many a brand commercial, listeners would benefit from giving this Blondie album a little more than a nod to pop culture. "Fade Away and Radiate" has a grittiness to it that serves as an artistic contrast to the aggressive angst of "One Way Or Another". The intro seems like something you'd hear if they had done the soundtrack to David Lynch's Dune, but then the lyrics are softly sung almost depressively, and the electric guitar is hauntingly matched to it. From this point forward, Blondie's sound turns gritty yet fun. They are rocking it out, and that's great. The album is strong and straight forward, yet also familiar. While not prevalent, it is noticeable that the guitars have 'djent' (not a reference to the debatble sub-genre, but the sound only) compositions, something more discussed in the 21st century than in the 20th. "I Know But I Don't Know" and "Will Anything Happen" are two of the best examples. Inevitably, we reach "Heart of Glass" and the song sings for itself. The album finishes strong with "I'm Gonna Love You Too" a song no one would be surprised if it had ever been covered by No Doubt, but then it gently fizzles away with "Just Go Away". The interesting thing about Parallel Lines is that we hear a lot of the modern sounds in this 1978 album, but the caffeine and cocaine riddled electronic synth-wave of the 80s made us forget. All that to say, the album ages well.
Fun, uneven, snapping and poppy. The singles on this album dominated the radio in the late 70s and they leave a fun impression. Some of the other songs are a little harder to deal with, but there are at least a couple of others that could have been singles.
Has the two hits, Heart of Glass and One Way Or Another. Other than that, nothing grabbed me. Decent.
Listening to a full Blondie record (something I've never done) really allows you to get past the weight of their massive hits and appreciate how fun and tight this band was. The guitar playing on this record is really great. I'm always a fan of a guitarist that can be playing melodies behind the vocals without competing with the main attraction: Debbie Harry. She's the bees knees. As far as single go, I love "Hearth of Glass." But "One Way or Another" is take-it-or-leave-it song for me. So, this record is mixed. But, I really would have liked to be alive in the late 70s when this record and so many other great records from Blondie, Talking Heads, and Bowie were happening. What a moment.
Great new wave album.
Dit album had ik (blijkbaar) nog geen persoonlijke beoordeling gegeven. Het album is lekker up-tempo en klinkt meteen vrolijk. Daarnaast staan er enkele bekende hits op. Leuk! ****
14th December 2021 Listened on the morning in the vancouver flat before sorting the flights out to LA to see Guy for Christmas and going to capilana Suspension Bridge! Blondie are the coolest lame band ever.
The definitively Blondie album.
I love Blondie. I find it hard to deny that Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are geniuses, however while there are many classics on this album there are a few songs that kind of plod along. Which had me struggling between giving this 3 or 4 stars. It's highlights are new wave at its finest
Good song writing is good song writing. Post Punk, pre pop, whatever. Like the real thing, not a pain in the ass.
Phew! Don't leave anyone hanging on the telephone with this one. Corker of an album!
Really enjoyable, even outside the hits.
Not quite as good as I remember, still some class
Great stuff
It's very good
Blondie is so cool Queen of cheerful angst
Great album - full of their classics, but also some new songs I hadn't heard before - the Buddy Holly cover towards the end is great!
8/10. Great pop rock with iconic vocals. The main thing that keeps this from a higher rating is quite a few of the hooks fall flat- they don't catch in the way that the singles do and they don't stick in my head the way I want a pop song to.
8/10. I forgot how much I liked "Heart of Glass" which is definitely a standout in this otherwise pretty solid album. Stand-out among the tracks I hadn't heard was "Just Go Away"
Lots of hits. 8/10
Cool
Fun pop-rock! Still feels good 40+ years later! Several hits I knew but didn't totally realize were Blondie before.
Not bad not bad
good one blondie, good one!
Solid album!

Surprised me in a good way. Very few swinging strikes, lots of doubles in the gap and homers. Best track: One Way or Another
Oh I know some Blondie. Oh, I know lots of Blondie. Oh, actually they are REALLY good. What an album. Would give 4.5. Listened through twice, will listen again many times. This is what albums are for. Could also be a Best Of album!
Super fun pop
About half of this album Is on the Best of Blondie CD I have, and it’s easy to see why. A lot of great tunes here. So I was familiar with the majority of the album. I knew Robert Fripp’s had played on a track, and it wasn’t even a “hit.” Really good stuff, but the filler is indeed filler…
Blondie is way better than I thought; I've told myself this a few times over the last year as I listened to more of their songs (going down different rabbit holes). Case in point, the lyrics to Heart of Glass are really good but I always thought it was just a fun disco-fused tune. Check out the Toadies version of it (acoustic and all the disco stripped out) and the words really resonate. And while I may dislike a lot of pop and new wave that was inspired by Blondie, this album is great. Nothing remarkable about their musical chops but the arrangements are fun and catchy and well put together. And Debbie Harris is a commanding presence on vocals of course (cliche maybe but she is just amazing on One Way or Another). They kind of ran out of gas on the last track (Just Go Away). All in all the album still holds up.
I've know the singles off of this album for years and there's no disputing how good they are. This is the first time I've actually given the album a listen. It's a strong pop, new wave album from start to finish. A fun rocker but intelligent with well-written songs. Deborah Harry's voice is really strong from start to finish. Fripp's guitar on "Fade Away and Radiate' does add some nice color to an already interesting ballad although I did find the bass a little too staccato at times on that track. Even "Pretty baby" (which ironically has the least plays off of the album on Spotify) is a great track!.
As I'm listening I'm realising more and more how fabulous her voice is and how suited to the genre. She is truly inspiring. The album is so catchy with star hits all over it.
8/10
legendary and catchy rock
This was solid, some great hits and have a soft spot for blondie anyways
The pop rock style of this albums isn't usually really my cup of tea. But Blondie seem to just do it really well and are on top of the game on this very enjoyable album. I knew One Way Or Another and am pretty sure Heart Of Glass sounds familiar to me. But I didn't know it was by Blondie.
I liked it a lot. Pure bangers
Grande disco, tra i migliori dell'era new wave.
Way way ahead of their time.
Loads of classic tracks
surprised how many well know 'hits' were on this albulm, refreshing to hear Blondie on some of the lesser known tracks, you could sense some of those post punk influences
It grew on me by the end. Definitely will give it more listens. Of course I thought One way or another, and Heart of glass were already bangers.
Nostalgic, fun, warm. Great for driving when it’s sunny.
Great album! I wish we could hear Heart Of Glass the way originally intended it to sound. Clem is one of the best drummers out there.
Classic big bad blondie hits
Loved all the hits, and I really enjoy the singer's voice. It was more lively than I expected. There were a couple of songs in there that I didn't enjoy as much, which dropped it from a 5.
Great album, knew many of the songs but some were a nice surprise. Great start.
Several hits are on this album. Other songs I had not heard before and they were also good.
Really good album with a couple of hits. I’ll definitely listen to this again. It had a perfect vibe for driving in the summer.
Heard most of these songs before. The ones I had not heard we're just ok.
clásicos... muchas canciones las había escuchado en mi vida pero no sabia de quien eran
A primeira parte é chatissima mas depois comecei a gostar
Zeitloser Klassiker
A lot of fun!
Među najboljim opening songs ikad - Hanging on a Telephone. I upravo sad pročitao da je to cover, sheeesh. Playful album sa odličnim vokalom Debbie. Naravno na albumu su jako poznati hitovi kao One Way or Another i Heart of Glass. Preporuka svi koji vole New Wave/Power Pop žanr, fin album.
UUUUUUUUU one way or another u driveru pffffff
Great album. Peak Blondie.
Banger after banger. No idea they made the I'm gonna getcha getcha song
Brilliant! Took me back to the punk era! Not so keen on some of the remixes
Listening through the whole album made favorites of mine such as Heart of Glass and One Way or Another seem even better. Some other good songs too like Sunday Girl and Pretty Baby.
Loved this album-great group
fun
Some bangers
That was really good but not great
Delightful Punk pop from one of acts that defined the genre. Starts strong, definitely drops off a little and then picks right back from track 9 onward. 4/5 as the good bits are bloody great.
From 78 and not sounding old. Some hits. Voice with style
Lo logró esa banda
Ótimo Álbum, New Wave bom pra quem tem preconceito começar a ouvir.
Fun album! A couple of hits along with some new ones that I liked as well. One Way or Another and Heart of Glass are both fantastic classics and I enjoyed Sunday Girl as well. After yesterday, this was a welcome change of pace and I'm digging the album cover as well! A beautiful lady surrounded by many similar looking white men. Look at all the parallel lines!
How do you turn off One Way or Another and a Heart of Glass? Though a lot more of the album just sort of passes me by.
Not bad, has a couple of great songs.
Good solid album. Knew i'd like it and i did. It's a good un'
I once saw Blondie live, I thought It would be interesting but wasn't expecting to know most of the songs and for it to rock as hard as it did... this is a great and entretaining album that slaps
4 - Ein Traum, würd eigtl ne 5 geben, aber 5er sehe ich nur bei Ausnahmealben. Trooootzdem so nice. Auch das One Direction cover geht ins ohr.
Na endlich mal ein Album, das man auch kennt. "One Way Or Another" oft schon mitgesungen. Auch wenns einige leidige Coverversionen gibt. "I Know, But I Don't Know" gibt mir auch etwas. "Will anything happen" beschreibt oft mein Gefühl für diverse Alben, die hier schon rezensiert werden mussten. Aber es passiert irgendwie nicht so viel. Alles in allem: Würd ich mir wohl schon nochmal anhören, aber haut mich auch nicht von den Socken.
This was REALLY good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Classic pop rock I reckon. I think the hits (and there were many on this album) are the hits for a reason... but other other songs were still fun, but didn't necessarily stick with me
I liked this more than Tracy Chapman, and One Way or Another still goes so hard. Did find one or two I really enjoyed.
I mean, it's the best Blondie album. Call Me?!
Love the vocals. Really good new wave music. Lots of classic songs.
Classic Blondie's best songs
Lots of greats
Damn, these guitar sounds sound fresh. Love her expressive vocals. "11:59" sounded like a deleted scene from Grease. Largely really liked this - more than enough to make me want to listen to more Blondie. That alternate version of Heart of Glass (Once I Had Love) was freaking dope.
much wow
Fun pop album with some rock vibes
I don’t have a ton to say about this one, probably should have paid closer attention to it, but a good listen, wouldn’t mind coming back to it.
Kule trommer, mye mer punk enn jeg trodde. Raspete stemme
C'mon, it's Blondie! This is the kind of power pop with emotion, and a very distinct voice that I feel deserves it's place on so many record shelves to this day. Favorite song, Heart of Glass.
Why don't people put Blondie on the same type of pedestal they put Madonna? I'm disappointed this was not the album with Rapture. Heart of Glass is the best of the album.
The album that bridged power pop and CBGBs for the masses. Had two huge hits on it and was solidly produced. The instrumentation on this album is really good for music of this type. Blondie is always really good to come back to at any time. Favorite song: Heart of Glass Least favorite song: Sunday Girl
Good upbeat sound
Nice guitar tone, good melodies, nice lines sung, kept it on repeat.
Pretty great album, some great summer tappers on there. Check it out for some songs to play in the sun
It's a banger that's for sure
Pretty great rock+punk (and slightly new wave) sound. I enjoyed this album quite a bit, but not quite enough to give it 5 stars.
Excellent pop/rock record. Fantastic melodies and hooks, and the band is superb - really cool guitar parts set against a super tight rhythm section. A classic that still sounds great today.
I don't have a lot to say about his album either, but it's just really solid. Just when I start to feel like it's bogging down, they drop Heart of Glass, and it's amazing. This album doesn't really feel that dated either. If I didn't know who it was and you told me it was from the 80s or 90s, I would completely believe it.
Enjoyable for the most, especially some old favourites. 4.2/5.
Really dig the last portion of the album
You know, this was surprisingly enjoyable. Not what I expected. It rides the edge of punk without ever quite getting there but it's entertaining not the less.
Got better as the album went on. Some really good melodies in there.
Fun pop album. I gotta say I like new wave Blondie better.
Pleasant. Upbeat. Perfect for a roadtrip. 7.5/10 F.T : Hanging on the Telephone
Three and half stars
Quality pop
This is up there in the pantheons of pop rock... ace record!
long overdue for a blondie re-assessment. this is a good late 70's new wave artifact. enjoyable.
Creo que está adelantada para su época. Tiene temones y es muy fácil de escuchar. Ideal roadtrip o para prepararte antes de salir. No le noto ninguna actuación descomunal en los instrumentos. Ella es la lider!
There are some absolute classics on this album
Fantastic album with a lot of unmemorable songs and a few phenomenal jams that even out to a near 4 star album. It’s really good, but the songs that stand out, notably “One Way Or Another” and “Heart Of Glass” are so many miles above the rest of the album that it’s hard to say this is a low 4. I don’t know, it’s close. Blondie is a really fun singer, but none of these songs particularly blow me away. Now, don’t get me wrong, I freaking LOVE Debbie Harry, the lead singer. Some of her other songs that aren’t even on this album like “Rapture” and “Call Me” have been stuck in my head since the moment I heard them. However, much like Bowie, there’s a lot of filler to get to the good stuff. Noted, it’s pretty good filler, but it’s largely just set dressing for the better songs on the album. I really do feel guilty giving this 3 stars, and I may come back to it later to adjust it to a low 4. Upon further review, unfortunately I’m going to keep it as a 3. There’s just not enough bangers to warrant putting it any higher. Again, don’t get it mistaken, I still love Blondie, and this album didn’t even remotely disappoint me. It just isn’t really a banger from top to bottom, and it needs to be to have a higher rating. Still though, I wouldn’t really skip any of these songs. They’re all good, and from song to song the variety is also quite good and varied. There are a lot of different blended genres here, and for better and worse, they make the album very unique and fun. My personal favorite of the bunch is obviously going to have to be “One Way Or Another”. What a classic. Easily stuck in my head and will remain stuck in my head until I hear another certified banger classic at some point during this project. Could that be tomorrow?? We’ll see. For now, this is a really good, charming, fun album, and I wish I could give it a higher rating. If the site had more than just 1-5 stars, this would be a 3.9, and I’d feel a whole lot less guilty about only giving it a 3.
Heavy three stars
Really fun. Very enjoyable.
Favourite Songs: One Way Or Another Heart Of Glass
Nunca había escuchado a Blondie además de las dos canciones más populares en este albúm. ¡Me ha gustado mucho! Destaco mucho su voz y sus letras. :)
This album was like whipped cream for me. It’s fun, light, and tasty; I could probably eat a lot more of it, but no matter how much I eat, it’s not going to provide a substantial meal for me. I don’t hate whipped cream, but I want a proper meal when I’m hungry.
Enjoyed a few of the singles. Didn’t hate it.
1ST
Yleensä nää discoilut toimii mulle hyvin, mutta tämä nyt kuitenkaan ei. Siitä puuttui semmonen jalan alle menevä juttu. Ei kuitenkaan mikään huono.
Heart of Glass is the obvious star of the album. Let this one play aloud as I did tasks and it all sounded pretty similar. Will have to revisit in the future out of respect for Debbie Harry.
Fun, but not really anything special?
The album was alright, couple of classic rock hits. Some surf influence was fun. Didn't do much for me overall though. 3/5-
I didn't love every song on this album but I've loved Heart of Glass since high school... it's very nostalgic to me now and I still love it so much. The sounds of this album really remind me of Rocky Horror Picture show and sound like they'd be good in a halloween movie LOL.
el pop de toda la vida
first blondie album! favourite song (other than heart of glass): will anything happen
Not my taste but good!
If I could, I’d rate this one a 3.5 / 5. I’m not a huge Blondie fan but I quite liked the album altogether, was pretty good to listen to. I wouldn’t say no to listening to it again but I’m not in a rush to either
I could do a lot worse than Blondie on a Monday. However, I wanted to like this album more than I did. Maybe I overhyped what my first Blondie album experience would be like. "One Way or Another" and "Heart of Glass" are fantastic but I found that the other songs were just ok (with the exception of the last 2). 3/5
Enjoyable to listen to the *other* songs on this album, i.e. the ones that aren't One Way Or Another or Heart of Glass.
i lowkey thought this came out in the 2000s like what the hell do you mean 1978 DAMN Hanging on the Telephone - 5/5 One Way or Another - 4/5 Picture This - 3/5 Fad Away and Radiate - 1/5 Pretty Baby - 2/5 I Know but I Don't Know - 1/5 11:59 - 2/5 Will Anything Happen - 3/5 Sunday Girl - 3/5 Heart of Glass - 4/5 (okay never mind this is so 70-80's) I'm Gonna Love You Too - 1/5 Just Go Away - 4/5 Once I Had a Love (AKA the Disco Song) - 1/5 Bang a Gong (live) - 2/5 I Know but I Don't Know (live) - 1/5 Hanging On the Telephone (live) - 5/5 42/80 = 3/5
This album sounds like a summer day at the water park. I like that a lot. Melodies are earworms for sure, but I'm not sure why. The chorus for Pretty Baby, for example, is SO annoying, but I'm singing it hours after listening to it. The simplicity maybe? There are a lot of chanters but that's not a bad thing. I dunno. I do like the album overall. Hey, y'know? Uh I- I dunno. 3.
Hade sina hits men jag längtade lite tills albumet var slut så att jag kunde lyssna på musik jag faktiskt tycker om. En trea, inte särskilt stark.
It was okay. “One Way Or Another”, “Heart Of Glass”, and “Hanging On The Telephone” are really good. The rest of the songs were there to fill out the running time.
josh stop being dramatic its not that bad
One definite banger, rest ok
Singles were solid, the rest felt disjointed
Mmkay
This is just plain good-spirited music. She can sing and most of the songs make a good feel. Unfortunately though a song played at the end, and I thought "hey this is their best one yet" but it was actually a diff artist (Hole).
I liked it. It’s crazy that blondie is just five of the same man and Debbie Harry. I’d listen again 👍
the album had nice punk-pop upbeat energy, but the white girl music in it was more then prominent. in my opinion, its a great album with interesting ideas that can appeal both to great audience through the pop influences and also demanding listeners, through its tasteful blend of pop and punk the album is not for my casual listening but i can see myself listening to it on a 80s party
"purring like a kitten and then building to a mean growl"
This album was fine, but it feels like it's supposed to be enjoyed while on cocaine at a disco.
Not bad, I guess.
nice groove
Me gustan las versiones en vivo.
Another album that seems to date from a time when record producers were saying, you have a couple amazing singles, let's just go ahead and put out a whole album! I mean to kick off with "Hanging on the Telephone" and "One Way or Another" is amazing and it's understandably difficult to maintain that level of pop nirvana. By the third song we're rhyming "wallet" with "solid" and "December" with "weather" and I'm starting to feel that disappointment kick in. The hits are terrific. The rest of this is just rushed nonsense that should never have been committed to vinyl.
It gets points for being one of the pioneers in the whole pop rock/power pop sound, and it certainly has the energy, but this is just another example for me that just confirms the notion of "just because you were the first doesn't mean you're the best". I can just think of more modern bands that take inspiration from the best parts of this and do it way better. Still though, it's enjoyable enough. 3/5
I'd bet that someone is going to make a Blondie musical at some point
Memorable songs but not really my era.
Can see how it is influential and how it should be viewed as a product of the time it was recorded. The foundations of so much rock and punk that later came along. That said, not my jam. Can’t explain why.
Fade Away and Radiate! Heart of Glass! Would go with 3.5 but I can't do that with this site.
Uhhgh Stand-outs - One Way Or Another - Heart Of Glass
pretty good I see myself listening to some songs again. No notes except I guess some of the songs are a little samey but I don't think there's any skips per say, 6.5/10
3/5 - a lot of the songs on here remind me of a worse version of bruce springsteen. heart of glass is so above the rest it’s actually crazy.
This is a high 3 for me with Heart of Glass being a particular household favourite
great vocals! nice blend of influences and cultures. 3.5 stars
Good poppy album. Singles are the standouts.
Obviously iconic, and Debbie Harry’s voice is so awesome. But who did the mixing on these songs? I feel like I’m constantly straining to hear them. Is there a remastering I should be listening to?
The great songs are, well…great. The rest of the album is decent, but pales in comparison.
A classic rock/pop album a great album of its time.
I assumed I would like it less than I did because I’m not a huge fan of the big singles from the album. But tracks like Fade Away and Radiate and 11:59 were quite good. There’s something extra nostalgic about Blondie’s sound.
The lyrics for the first two songs are kind of aggro. Guitars are reminiscent of a great day on the Banzai Pipeline. Favorite song on this album was Fade Away and Radiate, feels kind of like being high. Just Go Away is hilarious.
Some hits. Album tunes not too bad
It's aight
I really expected a lot more out of this. Decent vibe, some bangers, but just not all the way there for me.
I've never liked the two big hits from this album (One Way or Another especially gets under my skin) but the rest is pretty decent
3/5
3.1 2x
liked this overall but I thought the most well known songs from it were the best, not a ton here for me in terms of deeper cuts worth going back to
Fun but probably not something I’d return to
A poptimist and a punk walk into a bar. on karaoke night. The second that the punk, sitting alone, hears that timeless drum beat, he finishes his heavy-handed gulp of Yeungling and lets out the type of groan that pains you and everyone around you, as he willed it into existence. This catches the attention of the poptimist, who wonders how someone could be so aggrevated at such a timeless song. "Oh gee I don’t know. Maybe because it’s because these fucking dopes thought. Oh you know what would be funny? What if we opened our pseudo-punk masterpiece with the corniest CR-78 pattern ever??? It’s an emblem of the rain of shit that would cloud the 80s. Punks thinking they’re too good. So they put on a suit. Tale as old as time and call it “pop.” And Blondie, they were the first. The Poptimist does not know what a Roland CR-78 drum machine is, or that it was set to the "samba" preset. "These fucking-" says the punk, about to invole the Unholy Word, revealing more veins than Chapter 7 in an BIO 201 textbook, "SELLOUTS" "WOAH WOAH WOAH" "ITS TRUE!! They tried so hard to write a hit, and every time time they failed, they album suffered. If you’re a punk, you can get away with writing a shit song because at least you’ll be still be saying SOMETHING" The Poptimist, sipping his Negroni served out of a coupe glass, replies "Did I just hear a punk complaining about a band not being Album-oriented-" "Don’t twist my words. Over half of Parallel Lines FAILED! One of the five good songs is a COVER!!!! Of a REAL-" Both men are shouting at each other so loudly that not a single person in the bar can hear that I haven’t hit a single note. It is barely the third verse. "This album is supposed to be a $3 steal in the discount bins at the local record store, but because they used to play at CBGB, they’re rock fucking royalty." "OH SO WHAT ABOUT THE RAMONES THEN?!! THEY MIGHT AS WELL HAVE THE LETTERS OMFUG TATTOOED ON THEIR COCKS!! DID THEY HAVE MUCH OF SUBSTANCE TO SAY?!" "THE RAMONES HAD THE RAUCOUS PUNK ATTITUDE TO BACK UP THEIR POP-" "AND THEY STILL SUCK" “ROBERT FRIPP PLAYED ON THE ALBUM FOR CHRIST SAKE!! THAT SHOULD BE PROOF ENOUGH-“ Both of these men have been going to the same bar for 40 years. It never occurs to them that they are both incredibly gay and desperately want to have sex with each other.
the singles are great, obviously. enjoyed a few of the others, especially 'picture this,' which reminded me of an elvis costello song, but the second half fell a bit flat. 3.5
Through this project, I’ve learned that it’s sometimes hard to tell whether an album is truly influential or just generic—especially when it comes to eras I don’t remember. Technically, it’s the editor’s job to make that call. But after 250 albums, I can say that he’s only done a limited job of it. Let’s move on to today’s candidate: Blondie with “Parallel Lines.” This is exactly how I imagine late ’70s pop-rock—somewhere in the no-man’s-land between traditional dance music, NDW, and New Wave. Kind of nice, but way too tame for my taste. The best part of the version linked on Spotify are the live recordings, which actually don’t belong to “Parallel Lines.” Yes, “Parallel Lines” probably has to be on a list like this, but I find it mediocre.
Incredible vocal performances. Great mix for the time. Timeless songwriting and sound, feels nostalgic at times but not old and dusty at all. Great energy even in the slower paced songs. Some of the songs are a little too sparkly/happy-go-lucky for my personal taste, but overall it is still a great album with a lot of hits (one of them being the evergreen Heart of Glass of course). Also, it is interesting to hear their punk roots come through in some songs as well.
solid not fully for me 3/5
The album is getting a mixed review. The songs that rock are great and the songs have a 50s and 60s pop and aren't that good. But it's Deborah Harry! ☺️ The guitar player, Frank Infante is good.
was decent, obvs there’s some classics on there “heart of glass” not the best tho, last song was good end
I have 6 liked songs by Blondie prior to this - with 2 of them from this album - the radio songs "One Way or Another", and "Heart of Glass". I don't think I've ever done a deep dive on this though. I just liked the songs I knew. After 3 listens... "Hanging on the Telephone" - oh yeah, I remember this one too - pretty good song. "Picture This" - pretty cool "Fade Away and Radiate" - interesting because it has a more unique sound, both musically and vocally, compared to the other songs on this album. Perhaps the addition of Robert Fripp on guitar contributed to this. I think this is my favorite song on this album. "I Know, But I Don't Know" - also a bit different than the other songs on this album - in a good way. "Sunday Girl" - fun song, even cooler that it's about their cat that ran away I ended up liking the 5 songs mentioned above, in addition to the 2 I already liked. Solid album - will like hearing these songs pop up on my playlists. Liked songs on Spotify: 7/12 Rating: 3/5
7/10 Best songs: Hanging On The Telephone, Heart of Glass, I'm Gonna Love You Too Good rock music. Diverse yet cohesive album. But... I'm not really feeling it for some reason. It just doesn't go there enough for me.
3,3/5
been very tired of 70s 80s pop my whole life but damn theres some bangers along with some catchy songs I saved for later. probably wont listen again but maybe ill really fall in love with the songs I did like, this album snuck up on me
A great example of how silly the 80s was.
Really solid song structures all around, and strong performances from Debbie and the band. I feel like besides the heavy hitters (“One Way or Another,” “Heart of Glass”) the songs are just Alright
4/9/26 Listened while guilty gearing with kenneth. I liked Hanging on the telephone, One way, Sunday girl, picture this. First daily album
Three great singles that got radio airplay and put Blondie on the map. The rest of the album was just okay.
very nice album. I listened it while cleaning my room and it was actually fire. I enjoyed basically all the songs.
Great Songs: Hanging on the Telephone, Sunday Girl, Heart of Glass Good Songs: One Way or Another, Fade Away and Radiate, I Know but I Don't Know, 11:59, I'm Gonna Love You Too, Just Go Away Mid Songs: Picture This, Pretty Baby, Will Anything Happen Bad Songs:
Solid album, lots of classics. 3/5
I only knew 2 songs, it could've been better
A couple really catchy songs, a few decent ones and several meh songs. A fun listen but overall, not an album I’ll likely go back to.
One Way or Another is, of course, a classic, and a couple were pretty good towards the end, but I didn't care for most of it. Only giving it 3 because of the OWOA
I expect a bit more, but this was a standard, although fun, pop rock classic.
I enjoyed this a lot. I was sleeping on Blondie. The whole band sounds amazing here
album 1 out of 1001 hanging on the telephone: what an opener! 4,5/5 one way or another: classic, i remember how i firstly heard cover by one direction and discovered blondie at the age of 14, 5/5 easy picture this: 5/5 i really enjoyed the chorus + i liked how slowly mood of the album started to change on this track fade away and radiate: 3,5/5 great track, but not as the others for me, still very beautiful song pretty baby: 3/5 2000’s romcom vibe i know but i don’t know: 2,5/5 didn’t feel it also i think from this song album started to sound a little bit boring for me 11:59: 3/5 i loved instrumentals tho will anything happen: 3/5 2000’s romcom vibe again. loveee instrumentals sunday girl: 2/5 heart of glass: undeniable 1000/10 i’m gonna love you: 3/5 fun just go away: 4/5 i liked how album ended with this song especially. great song order! average score: 3,3/5
I knew and like a couple of songs on this album.
Decent songwriting and vocals. The whole thing showcases Debbie’s vocals very well. Instrumentation is sounds locked in the 70s with highlights of disco, early punk and rock. Not a bad album. Heart of Glass is a classic. 3.2/5.0
Some classics on here, but the rest doesn’t stand out all that much
There are four songs on here that really stand out for me, and the album starts strong and ends strong with two of those songs. That being said, aside from the four standout songs, the rest of the songs kind of blur inbetween with forgettable melodies and weak vocals (sorry Debbie). I appreciate that Debbie Harry is iconic and paved the way for our 80s, 90s and 00s pop stars - for example you can see a LOT of Blondie influence in Madonna's early work. I also prefer the songs with Debbie where she's not trying so hard and she almost talking-singing with a deeper voice - suits her better in my own untrained and untalented opinion (how easy it is to critique others when I myself cannot sing). I want to give this album 3.5 stars but can't. I'm not sure if it deserves 4 stars, because I probably wouldn't listen to this album again (that's my own criteria for 4 stars). It deserves 3.5, but I can only rate it 3 due to the system limitations. Good album, some solid tracks on here.
Very good
Hitsen är oantastliga, högeffektiva, ja kanske t.o.m. tidlösa. Och dom är många, en hel handfull faktiskt, (Hanging on the telephone, Picture this, Heart of glass, One way or another, Sunday girl), nästan halvan skivan alltså.
Kul post-punk.
I like one way or another and Hanging on the telephone, I am not able to like many songs here, will just skip this album.
Mi favorita es Heart Of Glass claramente, ME ENCANTA! (y ya la conozco bastante). De las demás, me gustó mucho Picture This. Después también están buenas 11:59 y Sunday Girl.
Knew the two hits but I like them already, rest unremarkable, might be higher rated if I hadn’t heard hits. M’s dont go away mad is a lyric from this.
Im prety sure ive seen this cover before. Sounds like nice pop rock. Its fun. Heart of glass is a great song obvioualy. Easily the highlight. Its good, id give it a 3.5 if I could.
The album has some classic songs like hanging on the telephone but also the more experimental songs of which I am not a big fan.
3.5/5
