I was hopeful for a minute or two that it was going to be better than I feared. The album drained all of that hope out of me.
This was a refreshing change. Much better than I remember when it originally came out.
Easiest 5 I'll ever give. More than an album - this one's history.

Joplin's voice *chef's kiss*
A pleasant surprise.
One song sounds like the Only Fools & Horses theme
A bit meh, until A Forest. Lovely bass
Just a good album. Nothing special
Great start and finish. Bit samey in the middle.
Goodbye Mr McKenzie was a better album...
Not my favourite ES album
Could be phenomenal with a bit of quality control and a single album
Utter pish. If no stars was an option it would still be too many.
A real disappointment other than the classic title track. Mostly covers.
Shades of The Stranglers, The Replacements, The Beatles, Graham Parker. I like it.
Please make it stop
Not aged well
I'm sure I shouldn't say this about Sinatra, but this one just felt like elevator music. An effort to stay until the end.

I don't understand why someone would do this.
This was a refreshing change. Much better than I remember when it originally came out.
A handful of decent tracks, but a lot of dull fillers.
Good enough for Rod Stewart to steal
This came so close to being my first hard pass on the list. Two and a half songs in I had to switch it off. I came back to it and managed to listen to it all in stages. I won't be listening to it again but I can see why it's on the list so on that basis will give it a neutral 3 stars.
In 1993 alternative music had gone a little bit stale. The Stone Roses had disappeared off the face of the earth, and the highs of 1991 couldn't be maintained. In the midst of all this The Boo Radleys burst from their shoegazing origins and unleashed angels and demons alike in a whirl of horns, dub-reggae, jazz, Beatlesesque melodies, and harmonies to die for. The album might be called Giant Steps but the Boo Radleys dared to fly.
Much better than I expected
Talihina Sky was a pleasant surprise at the end. I played this to death when it came out, but my copy must have been missing the extra track at the end.
Favourite track could be Badlands or Candy's Room but the piano in Something in the Night maybe just edges that one for me.
So many questions about this one. Why are all the songs so short? Why do most of them sound Beatlesque - except the one that sounds like Status Quo?
There's no reason for this to be so long. It was heading for a three star rating, but eight minutes of Sir Psycho Sexy is taking that down to a two.
Improved as it went on.

Better than I feared it was going to be
I bought this album on CD at the same time as XO by Elliott Smith. Both were purchased purely on recommendations and reviews - in those days you didn't have direct access to whatever music you liked, whenever you wanted to hear it. One of my best days ever for music buying. I still listen to this regularly and love it as much as the first time I heard it. If you find yourself stuck in traffic, pop it on and let the wave of calm just wash over you.
Easiest 5 I'll ever give. More than an album - this one's history.
Far too many songs but Headache is a an absolute banger.
