Of all the double albums on this list, this is a rare one that isn't too long
I've loved this album since 1979. Still to this day it makes me wish I was young enough to dance around or smash some furniture. A+
Banger. With larger albums like this it's harder to say "no skips", but the ratio of good to bad is heavily in good's favor. Punk, Rockabilly, Ska, they nail all of it.
Exceptional example of the original and best punk rock.
Oh, I love this song. I don’t think I know anything else on the record offhand, but I’ll get out my headphones for this one. Looking at the track list, I also know guns of brixton. I’m loving some of these songs, but don’t know if I’d listen to this album straight through again. I’ve always loved this album cover.
Kinda rare to have a double album where every song goes this hard. First time I ever listened to London Calling was pretty mind blowing
Goated versatile tracklist
Amazing
The word that came to mind when listening to 'London Calling' was: slick. The songwriting, the album cover, the instrumentation - everything is purposeful and immaculate, which is quite a feat when we consider how ramshackle it is designed to sound. 'Professional punk' feels like a misnomer, so maybe this isn't punk. Sure, it's satirical, but it isn't anarchic, bratty or even angry really. But it really is banger after banger. The first twelve (twelve!?) in particular are astonishing and it finds time to pick up again towards the end. The hooks are inescapable, the grooves are infectious and the energy makes you just wanna get involved. So could it be, that the word we should be using, really, is: pop?
Bangers
Sann klassiker!
Turn it up and let the neighbors listen along!
I love this record. Yes, there are a couple tracks that probably could have been cut. But there are so many great songs that brilliantly mix a variety of styles and wrap it in a punk attitude.
I really like this record. It's been on heavy rotation several times.
This is an amazing album and the mix of styles, especially reggae into the punk aesthetic really work. No wonder a 3rd wave ska guy like me likes this one so much, too.
there's something very apt about the fact that I listened to this album whilst prepping my new platform Docs to wear
One of the greatest.
I've long been a fan of The Clash. This is one of their best efforts. Sprawling, eclectic, and note perfect throughout. I can see an argument for maybe editing it down a bit, but for me it's perfect the way it is.
My favorite Clash album.
okay what the hell this album is SO GOOD ALREADY I LOVE brand new Cadillac, great guitar part British people make me happy in general a very bouncy album I must say
I love it 4.5
Such an important album. Thank god it's good. The songs individually probably aren't that great, but the sum is greater than the individual parts.
Classic, so fun, nothing else to add
After hearing about this album and its legacy for so long and finally going through it, I only have one thing to say: I get it. This is a serious contender for being the best punk album of all time. It certainly might be the best double album of all time. There was no point of fatigue. None. Do you know how many fucking double albums I tapped out on mentally? It’s long, but my god it never overstays its welcome. For a punk album, it’s incredibly diverse stylistically. The punk part is really coming from the themes. It’s kind of crazy how the Clash can keep a razor edge perceptive of the world and its issues and still make some damn catchy tunes without losing any integrity. I have nothing more to add to this. Like I said above: I get it. Favorite track: Lost in the Supermarket Other hits: London Calling, Hateful, Spanish Bombs, Jimmy Jazz, Rudie Can’t Fail, Wrong ‘Em Boyo, Death or Glory, Lover’s Rock, The Card Cheat, Train in Vain (Stand By Me)
Cool
Two hit songs bookend this album. In the middle I found some really interesting melodies and great performances.
One of the best albums ever
Its so, so rare to find a double album that wouldn't have been better as a single, but ai think this manages. Keeps its punk centre while adding dub, rock n roll and multiple other influences. At least four or five songs that immediately reach classic status, and not a single one i'd call filler. The Sex Pistols might have got the tabloid attention, but The Clash were the ones with depth and meaning. 5*, essential listen.
I bought this the day it came out. I was initially disappointed because it didn't sound like Give 'Em Enough Rope (and because some of the songs weren't "rock"). For the first time, the production doesn't stifle the band. The band sounds alive and full of purpose. There's a couple of dud songs but these are offset by the shout along anthems. This record represents the band at its peak from which it came down rather quickly. Happens to the best of us.
Cmon.
Greatest album ever made.
My wife says this is a classic album with no bad songs.
Simply the best next to the Ramones.
This is what a punk album should be. This is one of my favorite genres and this album is now one of my favorites. Most songs are amazing and maybe the two best are the first and last tracks. It did go on for a long time and got maybe a little boring near the end, but still, altogether this is a near perfect album. I have never been a huge fan of The Clash, especially not their self-titled, but this is a huge improvement and worthy of 5 stars.
I really liked this actually lol. It's very clear that this is an influential album, I could hear a lot of sonic elements that I've seen other bands replicate. big ska vibes which I loved (I'm assuming this predates ska but I'm more familiar with that genre). and it's dang good too. 5 stars!
9,5/10
Not only a classic but an excellent album.
Great
A stone classic, even if I think Give Em Enough Rope is their better album
I think tbh here’s like one song too many, but I also don’t know which one I’d cut because they’re all incredibly good.
You wouldn't give notes to the fucking Mona Lisa, would you?
One of the best punk albums ever.
i heard this at least partially already, but i'll give it a proper rating now that it's come up and it's been a while since I've listened London Calling - 5/5 Brand New Cadillac - 4/5 Jimmy Jazz - 3/5 Hateful - 4/5 Rudie Can't Fail - 5/5 Spanish Bombs - 5/5 The Right Profile - 4/5 Lost in the Supermarket - 5/5 Clampdown - 4/5 The Guns of Brixton - 5/5 Wrong 'Em Boyo - 5/5 Death or Glory - 5/5 Koka Kola - 4/5 The Card Cheat - 3/5 Lover's Rock - 5/5 Four Horsemen - 4/5 I'm Not Down - 4/5 Revolution Rock - 5/5 Train in Vain - 4/5 Average score: 4.3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the best of their albums i've heard so far. personally, i'm a sucker for ska and two-tone, so i loved the tracks that featured that kind of inspired sound
Excellent for its era, excellent even now. What a cracking album.
зачет! сначала думала, что он будет очень длинным и повторяющимся, но под конец прям зашло, аж на пять звездочек натянули
The Clash's best record demonstrating their transition from punk to ska. London Calling, Spanish Bombs, Clampdown so many good songs. If you want to get into the Clash this would be a good start.
This is one of the best rock albums ever recorded. So many tracks and all are great. The Clash can still do the classical punk thing, but most tracks have lot more interesting elements to it. These guys are/were real musicians who could compose tunes that really take you there and yet give you more to think about. "Lost in the supermarket" is such an example for political conscious lyrics although they are not on the nose. Great stuff!
I already love this record!
The title track and “Train in Vain” are essential. And the rest of the album is dang solid from start to finish. Punk yet melodic, New Wave yet thoughtful, hard-rocking yet warm. It’s downright amazing that a double album could be so dud-free. Easily a five-star album! A classic.
Punk attitude with catchy melodies - just a classic
Easiest 5 every track is great
It's London.
Un disco histórico desde la portada hasta la última canción. Te pude gustar más o menos, pero es evidente que London Calling. Spanish bomb, Lost in the supermarket, The guns of Brixton o Train in vain son iconos de la música.
The sheer amount of great songs on this thing is so impressive. Incredibly influential on punk and punk-adjacent genres for decades following its release. Hard to find hour-long projects this re-listenable, well-conceptualized, and universally likable. Part of the reason why it's so strong throughout is that the Clash are so deft at switching between genres. New Wave, Ska, Reggae, Punk, maybe a mixture of a couple or even all of those? They make all of them sound good.
London Calling is an album I've never fully checked out until now and today I learned that was a big mistake. London Calling is very versatile and yet so very punk, so experimental yet so catchy. A double LP that never bores!
Oh wow, I know every song already because I've been listening to this album for years. There's really no bad songs. I'll listen to every single one and be happy about it the whole time.
Awesome album. Despite the long run time there’s plenty of variety across the track list. So many cool influences contributing to this foundational punk record.
An all time classic
Best album of all time
I definitely understand why this is highest rated punk album on here. Its very accessible but also of quality. Almost 20 songs yet it manages to stay fresh throughout. A classic in just about every sense. Even the album cover is fucking legendary. One of my personal top five album covers I think. It was really hard to pick a favorite from this album. Usually I would say "Lost in the Supermarket" but recently I've been more into "Death or Glory". Also the title track is worth mentioning. Overall this is a genre defining album that I always look forward to revisiting. Favorite track: Death or Glory 4.5/5
My favorite punk album ever
every song on here is good
Every song is great, and while their punk rock sound from earlier records is still there, the experimentation and willing to expand their repertoire adds depth to their writing and overall sound.
The Clash are in my top five favourite bands so this is an easy one. Pure, evolved punk rock perfection. The chemistry this band is special and rare. Paul Simonon might be one of the most underrated bassists out there. Big in small circles, but the groove that guy brings is fucking massive. I could listen to this every day.
Easy 5 stars.
For a long time I refused to listen to this album on the basis that I don’t like the song London Calling. However, I forced myself to listen one day not so long ago, and found that the praise that this album gets is actually deserved. The Clash are an intelligent punk band that can play their instruments and write decent songs. Their ability to blend different genres of music, while still sounding punk is remarkable. They never loosen the sound, never let up on the bite of their lyrics. It comes at your right from the opening note and doesn’t let go till the last note. This album is a gobby narrative of life in late 70s United Kingdom and sounds as relevant today as it did then. I still don’t particularly like the song London Calling, but I do appreciate the vibe, the strength and the quality of this album. Classic.
I remember buying "The Story of The Clash, Volume 1" on a school trip in 8th grade after reading so much about them and listening to it and liking it but thinking "THESE guys are considered punk?" I finally bought this one in high school and wore it out. My family must have been so sick of it. For me this album is the audio version of the sensation of watching The Graduate and realizing how many movies that came after it referenced it in some way or used something from it. So many of the artists I loved in the '80s and '90s wished they were The Clash/Strummer. I have this entire album committed to memory to the point that I don't really even need to listen to it anymore, but I still get goosebumps when "London Calling" begins...
Makes me feel like i’m the coolest person on the street
Joe Strummer's lazy, breathy way of singing is just the epitome of cool. The songs are varied and catchy. Blends world music with 2 tone and punk rock. It may not be direct and refined enough for punk purists, but genre is descriptive not prescriptive. It's more post-punk or new wave, but I'm not gonna wag my finger at anyone calling this their favorite punk album. Hard to pick between 4 and 5 stars for this. To me it's a 5 star album, but it hasn't fully emerged as an all-time favorite for me despite years of listening to it. Many parts of it, like "Hateful", is on constant rotation for me. I don't have any critiques against it.
Fuck that guy's teacher. What an absolute melt.
Ohhh, i loved this one. Pretty much perfect double album. I was pleasently surprised that there are some bangers other than London Calling
4.5
*London Calling* I honestly have not heard this album since I was in high school. One of my friends had the album and we played it a couple of times I don't remember it being an album we used to play all the time. To be honest I'm not much of a clash fan but I do love this era of the Clash, *London Calling* and *Combat Rock*, when they were more postponed than they were Punk. They were definitely ahead of the curve at this point. This was actually a really nice revisit and I really ought to get a copy of this album (9.8) ★★★★½
Before starting this project, this is one of the albums I thought could potentially top the whole list for me. It's long been among my favorite all time albums, and for my tastes, it's my idealized version of a rock album. It's a punk album at heart, but the band really transcends the genre, incorporating new wave, rockabilly, ska, and reggae on top of their existing punk style. It sort of serves as a blueprint for what would become alternative rock. The band also bucks the notion that punks were talentless hacks. The songs are all extremely well-crafted, and the musicianship is excellent, with the band adding piano, organ, and horns to their standard guitar/bass/drums instrumentation. Highlights for me are the title track, "Hateful", "Rudie Can't Fail", "Spanish Bombs", "Lost in the Supermarket", "Death or Glory", "I'm Not Down", and "Train in Vain", but truth be told, every song is a highlight here. It's perfect. 5 stars.
good
a personal favorite
Great
After listening to this album many times im still not sure what I actually think of it. All i know is that there's some dang good music on here and that for some reason it keeps dragging at me to listen to it one more time
Punks aren't supposed to be able to actually play. Punks aren't supposed to be able to actually write. Punks aren't supposed to be able to play in multiple genres and actually hang. Nominal punk music isn't supposed to have this kind of emotional range - tender and hurt and empathetic and hopeful in addition to the usual punk anger. Old-fashioned rock and roll isn't supposed to still sound vital. Isn't it refreshing to encounter something that's *better* than it's supposed to be? I can't remember the last time it happened, honestly.
Would this be an easy 5 if I didn't know it so well? Maybe not, but who cares. The definition of British punk being better. They knew how to make music and make a statement and Strummer is a legend. So much variation and so many interesting tracks. How many albums start as well as this too?
Tardé años en apreciar este disco. Me parecía largo y desconectado. Pero con los años cada vez me parece más natural su conjunto de canciones. El sonido es excelente y la paleta de estilos es muy meritoria. Como siempre, vincular este disco a momentos vitales importantes fue la clave.
Incredible album. Quintessential punk rock record with no wasted motion.
Classic.
i mean like wow
A ripping album. A double album that doesn't feel overly indulgent.
One of the best. Such and interesting blend of genres and sounds. Still very much holds up today.
Varied, creative, never boring, never repetitive. Plus it's great fun
Yeah brother fuck yeah punk motherfuckers
The best punk album ever made.
Punk? Ja. Rock? Ja. Pop? Ja. Ska? Ja. Klasse? Ja!
Ce n'est pas un album parfait, il est trop long. Mais les moments forts sont si forts que ça éclipse beaucoup des défauts.
This is one of those albums that I have heard it drips and drabs, some songs more than others, but never in its entirety all at once. What an awesome experience that lived up to the hype.
hell yes -- love the Clash! excited for this, as i know ta lot of these songs on this album.
Top to bottom an absolute classic! One of the best albums of all time in my mind. Catchy hooks, great lyrics. Love the ska forays. Not a bad song in the album and tons of hits too. My personal faves: “London Calling”, “Rudy can’t fail”, “clampdown”, “train in vain”
!!!
1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die [in random order]: 14. THE CLASH: London Calling (1979) The best punk rock album ever made? 'London Calling' has a very strong case. The punk explosion of the late 1970s was starting to peter out somewhat by 1979, with the Sex Pistols no more, Sid Vicious dead and the remaining first-wave punk bands [Ramones, The Damned, Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Stranglers etc.] diversifying their sound further to stay relevant heading into the 1980s, alongside a few new, moodier players [Joy Division, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees]. But The Clash were heads and shoulders above the rest at this point, striking solid gold in the dying months of '79 with the brilliant 'London Calling'. Branching out from traditional punk rock to include elements of ska, reggae, jazz and rockabilly, 'London Calling' took plenty of risks musically, and where many of their contemporaries failed, The Clash passed with flying colours. With Joe Strummer's world-weariness ['London Calling', 'Spanish Bombs', 'Revolution Rock'], Mick Jones' growing confidence as a pop songwriter and frontman ['Lost in the Supermarket', 'I'm Not Down', 'Train in Vain'] and even a rare Paul Simonon-led song [the riot-worthy 'The Guns of Brixton'], this album is The Clash firing on all cylinders. There's not a dull moment in 'London Calling's' 65-minute run time. So many bands post-1979 [Green Day, Rancid, The Pogues, U2, any 80s/90s ska punk band] owe so much to The Clash, and in particular 'London Calling', as it was the first punk record that dared to branch out, and is all the more better for it. 'London Calling' blew me away when I first heard it as a 16-17 year old moving deeper down the alternative/punk rabbit hole, and it still blows me away to this day. The world would be a poorer place without this record. My Picks: THE ENTIRE RECORD! Not one bad song on it! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 [I'd give it 6 if I could!]
Holy shit! Amazing. Punk, reggae, roots, rock, ska, pop spiked with numerous kick ass gorgeous classics: London Calling, Guns of Brixton, Lost in the Supermarket, Spanish Bombs, Clampdown, Death and Glory, the secret hidden last track. Crushes.
Absolute favorite. Pick up nuances ever time I hear it. Would be on my desert island jukebox.
The record that matters most from the only band that matters
My fave punk album. To borrow an Adam Scott/"U Talkin' U2 to Me" phrase, this is a stone cold classic filled with some of the Only Band that Matter's best tracks. I appreciate the Clash's commitment to try different things and even in the lesser tracks--"Brand New Cadillac," "Jimmy Jazz"--I find something to like. Top tracks: "Spanish Bombs," "Clampdown," "London Calling," Lost in the Supermarket," "The Guns of Brixton"
--London Calling...great opener --Brand New Cadillac...love the guitar --Jimmy Jazz...no thanks --Hateful...this kicks --Rudie Can't Fail...love that groove --Spanish Bombs...keeps the groove going --The Right Profile...I like the horns but not a great song --Lost in the Supermarket...great pop punk --Clampdown...thumbs up --The Guns of Brixton...great bass line. Other than that, meh --Wrong 'Em Boyo...this is fun --Death or Glory...great track --Koka Kola...the fun continues --The Card Cheat...something a little more epic. that trumpet! that piano! --Lover's Rock...a fun change of pace. the piano and bass excel here --Four Horseman...good initial drive then kind of meanders its way out --I'm Not Down...love that bass --Revolution Rock...love that reggae beat! love those horns! --Train on Vain...is this the greatest "hidden" track of all time? Yes. Yes it is.
Love The Clash! This is a great album!
C’est un album absolument légendaire.
Pure Perfection. The way they fuse different elements of genres without compromising their original punk sound is something that should be taught in schools. Legitimately perhaps the best album on this entire list. There's a reason people rate this as the pinnacle of a genre. And quite frankly, it deserves it. Nothing else to say that hasn't already been said 1000X. Sounds even better on vinyl. 10/10
The classics are classics for a reason
Listened twice on accident, classic
Wildly tight, dancy percussion, fun horns and political commentary. Feels fresh, while deeply rooted in the basics of ska, soul, blues. All this, and never once gave me the Skip Button Itch. I couldn’t ask for much more. Made in a lab to play in the background of your favorite crowded bar. Highlights: hateful, lost in the supermarket, guns of brixton, koka kola
En av tiderna bästa skiva. Älskar the Clash.
An absolute classic and full of hits. It's actually a really good to listen to from start to end. Stylistically they really achieved quite some variety here.
❤️🔥❤️🔥🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Best album so far All songs full of energy Didn't know the clash had ska like songs Some really catchy bass lines to a lot of the songs too
Been there done that. Great album still
71/1001 The Clash - London Calling Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ In spite of it clocking in at an hour and five minutes, this never feels like a slog. The variety on display in the sound makes this such a special record. Melding the punk sensibilities with ska, reggae and rockabilly, it all just works. It has to be in conversation with the best punk record of all time.
I mean I love it.
Great
Great album. Amazing lyrics and a variety of musical styles
9/10
Amazing - superb from start to finish
Классика)
London Calling is the rare double album that's all killer and no filler. The title track may be overplayed (thanks unimaginative directors who don't trust viewers to know when something is set in London), but if you're bored of that, there's always The Card Cheat, Death or Glory, Lost in the Supermarket, Rudie Can't Fail and so many other songs that would have been most other bands’ classic hit single.
Always good to see a classic pop up and ashamed to say I have never listened all the way through before… Such a classic opener and surprised to see over one hour, for a short, sharp punk band. Good groove, feel and variety. Nice detour to ‘Jimmy Jazz’, before the familiar ‘Hateful’. Keeps me engaged and great variety of rhythms and style - reggae, jazz, punk. Did Pulp rip off ‘Lost in the Supermarket’?! SO many good tracks on this album and keep getting hit by the variety, but keep the quality in each. Ridiculous. Are we getting close to a 5*?! How do I choose a favourite track from this?!
It was really surprising! The mix of styles, all done really well. The Clash is so much more than the title track. It'll definitely go on the longer rotation
The Clash, to me, both defined punk (certainly later 70s-80s) but also were always something a little different (and a little more?). Everyone sings "Lost in the Supermarket" when they go to the grocery store, right?
The greatest album of all time!
It can't be even defined in one genre in my opinion, not even in 3 if you want, 100/100 A bit bloated in the second B-side but it's incredible, the best album of the late seventies by a mile ⭐️Brand New Cadillac, Lost in the Supermarket, Train in Vain, Wrong 'em Boyo
One of my favorite albums, 10/10
One of the best rock albums of all time 10/10
Weird I listened to this album yesterday just because I enjoy it. That's twice this has happened. I think the list is stalking me. I enjoy this album. I wonder how they are punk but eh. From start to finish it's solid, good music, good lyrics, fun album. I can go into depth but a LOT of other reviewers have done that. Give it a listen. It's one of those great time and place albums.
5 out of 5, and probably the easiest five I'll ever give on this list. Personally this is a top album, one I'd be happy stranded on a deserted island with. London Calling saw The Clash reach their highest point and truly is an album which sounds like they can do anything musically.
This is the two hundred fourth album I’m rating. I’ve heard many say this is the best album ever but I’ve never heard a song. Adding to my Playlist - London Calling, Brand New Cadillac, Jimmy Jazz, Hateful, Rudie Can’t Fail, Spanish Bombs, The Right Profile, Lost in the Supermarket, Clampdown, The Guns of Brixton, Wrong ‘Em Boyo, Death or Glory, Koka Kola, The Card Cheat, Lover’s Rock, Four Horsemen, I’m not Down, Revolution Rock, and Train in Vain. Not Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. All in all I liked 19/19 songs. Hyper eclectic and very good.
Finally, the pinnacle of British punk. This album transcends punk and ventures into many genres but maintains that "I don't give a shit" socially charged attitude. London Calling is a damn fine album. All the instruments hit and are so well played. Strummer's vocals are iconic. Standouts on this listen were "London Calling," "Rudie Can't Fail," "The Card Cheat," and "Train In Vain" - one of my favorite songs just in general This album has such good replayability too, either as a whole or with individual songs. Its fun, it's jammable, its top notch. It's gotta be 5/5
Wow this album is actually flawless, annoying it took me this long to hear it for the first time. My usual complaint with double albums is that they are usually too long for what they are but this doesn’t have that issue, genuinely every dong was great. Incredibly varied as well, many influences taken from different genres but they did well to incorporate this without losing their distinct punk style, it all flows together so well also, there’s no merging of songs or anything but it just fits despite each song being unique which is a crazy feat for 19 songs. Also, for London calling to be probably my least favourite song on the album shows how good this lineup of songs are. I do think it may be a bit of a stretch to call this a punk album though even though it still contains punk elements and is made by the clash. Favourites: all. Overall, 10/10.
There is nothing I can say.
Increíble
One of the best of all time
Brilliant punk album
An outstanding foray into rock, covering everything from rockabilly to punk and back. Few records have ever maintained the musicality and social commentary that this record does and for that it is a perfect record
Long album. Seemed to be boring in the beginning, but it gained momentum with good mixing and tasteful instrumentation adding lots of texture.
THE best thing to come out of London
I adore this album! One of the greatest punk/ska albums ever and a hugely influential album in the development of my musical identity.
Thought I would enjoy. Blew me away. So good - all very listenable. Hard to believe it was 1979. Year of Disco and Disco Sux movements. Thoughtful lyrics, great variety, yet distinctively The Clash. Moves furthest up my list as far as great albums of anything else I have heard, by FAR, on this list. 9.2
The ultimate punk album
5/5 no notes
I didn’t like them back in the day but it gets better with age still vital
Phenomenal album! No bad song on this album and there's something for everybody. A CLASSIC!
Seminal album by one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. Varying influences throughout and a must have record. Def a dessert island disc. The greatest rock and roll picture on the cover.
A seminal punk and new wave release. The best thing the clash ever did.
How good is this album?? Again, I personally don’t like very long albums, I get tired of the same vibe quickly. But this had good switch ups to keep it interesting and every song had its original vibe. It made me feel like I’m running in the park, all careless and happy. Didn’t expect to like it this much!!
Lost in the Supermarket is the perfect embodiment of lifestyle, capitalism and Strummer's sarcasm.
THIS JS GREAT OMG I LOVE IT YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS
Liked this one
Punk music that grew up. It showed that punk didn’t have to be a one trick pony, but to harness the energy into different genres instead. Musically I love the bass guitar that was steady but still melodic. It has a great tone with just the right amount of bite. The power of a P Bass!
Classic album, one of the best ever!
Another classic, I’ve been on a bit of a five star run with this album generator these last few days. I purchased this on vinyl not long after its release and still have it pride of place at the front of my collection.
Simply brilliant. The best ‘punk’ album.
One of the handful of albums on this list I've heard before. Tune after tune. The first half is better but still a great listen. Highlights: London Calling Hateful Rudie Can't Fail Clampdown Train in Vain
Yeah, classic album, I had id when it first came out
It's a nice break to get something I already know well. This album is understandably heralded as a classic, because it is one. Particularly the first half has a wealth of some of the Clash's best songs. This album is so great, in fact, one of their most well-known songs was buried at the end and not included on the track listing, according to Wikipedia. Even its slower moments are better than other album's better songs. London Calling (the song and the album) rules.
Yeah, this is just great to listen to all the way through
this album is a banger. quite a long album, 19 songs long but all 19 songs are amazing, all u pique form each other and has their own strengths. the first track really sets the tone for the album, and it only keeps at that as the album goes on, absolutely no skips. this might well be one of the best albums of all time. 5/5, amazing
This iconic and timeless record is one of those albums that rightly appears near the top of the pile on these lists. It's a cool blend of instantly likeable punk and new wave styles, full of energy and passion yet thoughtful enough to resonate deeper meaning. Superb in all departments and housed in a memorable cover, this is a true classic.
Flawless
Brought a tear to my eye music genius, spanish bombs, guns of Brixton, lost in the supermarket and london calling to name but a few of the blockbuster hits on this divine album.
Quite possibly one of the best albums of all time.
I picked up this on CD in the mid-90s, (not previously knowing much about The Clash), I had it on constant repeat for months! I listened to it twice yesterday!
God damn it, his album is absolutely legendary and punk at its best! It is a classic that will transcend time itself. I also think that the Clash is probably the greatest punk band in history because of an album like London Calling. Between the iconic cover based off of Elvis Presley's self-titled album (also on this list as well), to the amazing instrumentation and lyricism, this album is everything that perfect punk album should be. I just love almost everything about this album from front to back, it doesn't really get boring to listen to it. People like Joe Strummer were ahead of their time, I feel would be very disappointed if he saw how much injustice exists in this world today if he were still alive. While there are people who hail the Sex Pistols as being one of the first punk bands and even calling Never Mind the Bollocks the greatest punk album ever, I point this album to you. I feel that if you want rage and anger of punk but it being musically creative and lyrically deep, this album is for you. Favorite Tracks: London Calling, Brand New Cadillac, Spanish Bombs, Clampdown, Train in Vain (Stand by Me) Rating: 5/5
One of the greatest double albums ever every song hits so hard
Brutal!
Yeah, easily one of my top 5 favorite albums. Everyone should own a copy of London Calling. The entire album is fucking brilliant, but The Guns of Brixton, I'm Not Down and Train In Vain are exceptional.
So important, sounds so much more modern to me.
What a banger! I wouldn’t call it punk anymore but it’s a perfect new wave record.
funny, but because of Elvis Presley album I got in here, I also listened to this album because of the album cover resemblance. Liked this album then, but lets go once again. london calling – great song. rudie can't fail – looove it. i also like spanish bombs haha
The album where The Clash transcended (or betrayed according to some) their punk origins and became “the only band that matters” although in truth the myriad influences had been there along, going back to Strummer’s 101er days, Mick’s love of guitar heroes and Topper’s jazz drumming. Anyway, it is one of my favourite albums of all time, the depth and range of material astounding. No two songs sound alike; the styles jump from straight rock, new wave, to reggae and ska, to rockabilly and rock and roll, to northern soul, sometimes in the same song. And yet all of this seems effortless and never stops sounding like The Clash. All this variety wasn’t the band showing off, “look, we can do this too…” rather an explosion of ideas, overflowing creativity. The songs are excellent, the band becoming bigger than life, the self-mythologising increasing. The anger and power of punk rock was still there, the politics and social commentary, but there were love songs too, moments of tenderness. I love this album. I hear something new every time I listen to it. This time it was a new appreciation of how good a song “The Card Cheat” is, the futility and regret of someone near the end, the echoes of history, all set to a horn driven, Phil Spector Wall of Sound, “Be My Baby” backing. One of the greatest albums of all time.
The first few bars of London Calling are amongst the best in rock/pop music history. Everything about this album is absorbing. The switches in influence, bass lines that have been sampled, even an iconic album cover. To call this punk misses everything about it. A band in West London taking on all the musical influences around them and producing a double album where there is barely a weakness.
It's one of the best, if not the best punk albums ever - upon relistening it to again after a few years I didn't remember it had so many other influences, for example ska and rockabilly. It's an excellently written and played album, I like the tightness and how punchy it is - but playful at the same time. His voice is not my favorite and it's the only criticism of the otherwise stellar album.
One of my top 10 albums. An amazing record that stretches the boundaries of punk rock. It has so much more depth and breadth records put out by many of their peers. So many great songs: London Calling, Spanish Bombs, Train in Vain, Clampdown, Rudie Can't Fail.
I once heard London Calling described as the one that The Clash put out after they learned how to play their instruments. I don’t know about that but I will say that this album is absolutely perfect in every way. Every song is great, it encompasses so many styles of music and mixes them together flawlessly. It never suffers from the “sameness syndrome” where you can’t really tell the songs apart. They are all memorable and filled with just great moments that transcend a pigeonholed genre of “Punk” that is usually assigned to The Clash. It is so much more than that musically and lyrically. Even the album cover is a brilliant nod to Elvis Presley’s debut album with the color and placement of the lettering. I always saw the photo of Paul Simonon smashing his bass as symbolic of them breaking the concept of what we think of as rock and roll - they are redefining music as we know it with London Calling. This is easily a top 10 album for me. On my last.fm stats it’s ranked at #5 in terms of overall songs played from it but I think if I spent some more time cleaning up and consolidating the scrobbles (yes autocorrect, I meant scrobbles, not scribbles!) from the various reissues and deluxe versions it would eek out a higher spot. I was asked to create playlists for various birthday parties (mom’s 70th and dad’s 80th) and I absolutely, with no regrets, added “Lost in the Supermarket” to each of them. I mean, “I wasn’t born so much as I fell out” seems like a perfect lyric for the occasion. As I was listening last night and thinking of what song to share with my blog post review I would think I had one but then I’d look at the upcoming tracks and find something else equally as worthy. This album is just that good. It is essential for every collection and deserves every bit of acclaim it has ever received.
Awesome
London calling is a classic album. Transformative, experimental and was ahead of its time.
London is calling, I’m answering
Overall: 10/10 This was one of the first albums I ever bought on CD and I only bought it cause it had 19 songs and it was on sale so it seemed like a good use of my money. Thankfully, I was right! I didn't love it as much at the time as I do now though, I think almost every song on this one rips. I love the amount of different genres that they pulled from to craft these songs. I hear influence from ska, 50s rock, surf rock, classic punk and even some pop music! The fact that it all works is a testament to how talented these guys were. They were much more than a punk band. Fav Song: Rudie Can't Fail Least Fav Song: Lover's Rock
Favorite songs: Train in Vain (Stand By Me), London Calling, Brand New Cadillac, Revolution Rock, Clampdown, Hateful, Rudie Can't Fail, Spanish Bombs, The Right Profile, The Guns of Brixton, Wrong 'Em Boyo, Death or Glory Least favorite songs: Lost in the Supermarket 5/5
BANGER! Did not realize how much ska is on this record. 5/5
I knew The Clash evolved their sound over the years, but was surprised by how little of this particular album sounded like 'punk'. The pent-up tension of the title track actually seems like a bit of an outlier on the record (and in general, really - nobody's recorded a song *quite* like it), both musically and lyrically. Still, whatever styles they used, the first disc slaps - it's a 5* collection of bangers. The second half isn't quite as strong, but it does seem to be growing on me (and Train in Vain is a corking closer). I definitely understand the amount praise for this album, even if it's not for the exact reasons I was expecting. 4.5
Great album. Has my favorite song by The Clash. I forgot until the very last track. What a great way to end an album!
I had never really listened much to The Clash - this was surprisingly good and not exactly what I expected.
Who doesn't love this album or the Clash in general? Listening to this as an adult is such a different experience. The richness and variation, skill and expertise I never could've noticed as a young teenager. Epic record from start to finish
Perfection.
Best clash album!
Classic. I've been familiar with this album for more than 25 years now. On a careful relisten, I'm just realizing how standout the bass lines actually are.
Iconic
Ah, a classic! London Calling is arguable the greatest punk album ever. One thing I've always appreciated is the length. Most punk album are pretty short. This one is willing to take around an hour which is fun. It's great 97/100
Three cheers! One of my all-time favs!!!! 5/5 #albumsky #musicsky #musicchallenge
Lots of variety and a strong message. The Clampdown is more relevant than ever as the US slides into fascism which of course is sad.
Låten death and glory gav denna en automatisk femma. Jävlar vad bra varierande album!!!
Terrific
It doesn’t get much better than this. The Clash remind people that punk is a spirit, mindset, and way of living and seeing the world; not a sound. They play a bit of everything here and every member has their standout moments. The music is egalitarian as are the lyrics. Their punk, new wave, post-punk, pop rock, reggae, rock n roll music provides the backdrop for stories and character studies largely focused around struggle - class, race, urban, capitalist, consumerist, liberation, internal. Keep fighting it.
4.6 top 5 punk albums for sure faves: london calling, spanish bombs, lost in the supermarket
Classic cover. Strummer is an amazing singer and a totally iconic band.
Very well paced double album with a lot of bangers. There are no skips. My favorite tracks are London Calling, Rudie Can't Fail, Spanish Bombs, Lost in the Supermarket, Clampdown, and Death or Glory.
Epic opening. Love this album, always have. My spouse gave up on this project a while back ("on a break!") but before he did he heard this album for the first time; he didn't know about The Clash. It blew his mind. I love this for us.
heard before. starting out with a classic i see. great album.
This is one of those bands that I know of, but never know anything specific about them. Now I understand why they are so well regarded. This is one of the best albums I've heard in a very long time. Upbeat punk-lite music that goes just hard enough to be enjoyable, but not too hard as to be off-putting. All the songs were great, but the one that will make the playlist will be, "London Calling" I could have picked about 10 songs from this album. Songs like "Revolution Rock" with it's reggae feel is right up my alley. I just think the London Calling is more of what The Clash represent. You know what, there's been a few albums I didn't add any songs from, so I'll add Revolution Rock as a bonus track. My list, my rules. lol 5 Stars, and quite possibly the best album on this list that I've seen to date.
Classic
Awesome album. I found some new faves on here that I wasn't familiar with! Lost in the supermarket has been a long time favorite - but somehow has never picked up on how awesome Hateful is.
Best punk album because it’s so much more. Lyrically and musically. The Clash can do the rebellious attitude with the best of them, but few others could do the variation, such as the gentle poignant pop soul isolation shown in Lost in the Supermarket. There’s Classic rock, rockabilly and reggae, the covers are A1, and it’s all tied together by Strummers vocal great style and the homage to the Elvis cover. There is a reason it’s remains in top lists it’s a great record, 5 Star
Die Iran die!!
I have lost count of how many times I have listened to this album, it is absolutely one of my all-time favorites.
We already know it’s perfect cmon
Iconic. One of the greatest albums ever made. Possibly the best double album of all time. Not a single miss. Unique and original, great production, writing, lyrics, instrumentation, vocals, energy. It’s all there. It’s all perfect. Flawless. If you don’t love The Clash, I don’t know how to help you. I love it. 5/5
Amazing album
I had this at 3 initially. After several relistens - it's not always perfect but even the weak stuff is brimming with personality and has such incredible highs. Also worth noting that c. 50% of the album is comprised of practically perfect tracks. A record with just the first disc would be a 10/10 record but it's still a 9/10 based on the strength of these and many other top-notch tracks. The theming and political messaging is fantastic, it feels like a hopeful record despite the apocalyptic feel at times. It has a beautiful vision of the UK as a great melting pot from the sounds and influences. (list of my favourites below - 10/10 single album for sure): 1. London Calling 2. Jimmy Jazz 3. Rudie Can't Fail 4. Spanish Bombs 5. Lost in the Supermarket 6. Clampdown 7. Wrong 'Em Boyo 8. Death or Glory 9. Train in Vain
Perhaps one of the best albums ever. So diverse musically. Tons of bangers. The title track might be my least favorite song on this, and it's still pretty good!
9/10 Joe Strummer's been dead for too damn long And now we’re all just numb to what they’ve done You give an inch, and they'll just take your arm No, we don’t fight We don't riot Even when the war's outside our door 6-13-2025
Kicked off a weekend of punk rock and protests. No Kings 2025!
Another greatest of all time contender. This is punk but it’s also so much beyond that. A double album where I couldn’t think of a single song to cut. Just perfect.
146/1089 - I wasn't originally a fan of the voices but they work really well with everything and the melodies are very catchy. Very good playing from all members and cool stylistic differences between all of the songs.
This album seriously has everything. Not just your straightforward punk album, it has elements of ska, post-punk and new wave wrapped all into one delightful package. Absolute masterpiece. These bois are my favourite champagne socialists, who cares if Joe Strummer was born middle class? Dude approached socialism from a humanitarian standpoint and fought to keep tickets to their concerts cheap among other things.
3.5
5/5
One of the best albums of all time, 10/10. Such a delicious spread of genre bending tunes that all hit in different yet equally satisfying ways - no notes.
Som at være ung igen. Frem med bannerne og ud at demonstrere.
THE punk album. Also has a lot of ska. Insanely cool, defiant, and thoughtful at the same time.
The Clash lay down their manifesto at the height of their power. The best album of the '80's. Also maybe the 1st hidden track accidentally?
Love this album
What more can be said about this album? It's iconic, it holds up, it's still relevant. "The Guns of Brixton" still feel ominous. "Train In Vain" is perpetually danceable. "Hateful" will be stuck in my head for days. The album's long, but none of the tracks feel like filler. They are each unique, catchy, edgy without feeling pretentious or overdone. Strummer and Jones are at the pinnacle of song-writing talents. It's arguably the best album of its era and genre.
Day519 - a masterpiece from the only band that matters
Epochal
One of my early items sold on Amazon. A woman was buying it for her teenage soon for Xmas and wanted an original issue. Cost her $30. Another album (Like Physical Graffiti) that I thought would be better pared down to a single disc. Nope, steadily good stuff throughout. Lyrics are easy to follow with the vocals and have some interesting subjects. The band is tight from start to finish. A winner.
Pre listen: Oh man. Will this be a 4 or a 5? I love basically the first 12 songs, but then I usually skip to Train in Vain. Been a long time since I’ve listened to tracks 13-18. Also, the most iconic cover in rock: Elvis reference subverted, incredible picture. In high school, we had a spirit week theme day called “clash day.” Most people wore stripes with polka dots or orange with red. The coolest guy in band class wore a shirt that said “Rudie Can’t Fail.” Perfect. No notes. Listening: everyone says this, but it’s amazing how many genres are represented on this album. Nearly every song is a different style. I’ve owned this album for 25 years and I genuinely have no memory of ever listening to “I’m Not Down.” So, I think I’m going with 5. It remains my opinion that tracks 13-18 are “filler,” but I still like them, if that makes sense. It’s four-star filler. There are a dozen-ish classics on this album and I don’t care to penalize it for being ever so slightly bloated. Train in Vain, Rudie, Clampdown, Supermarket, Death or Glory, and London Calling all on one album can persuade me to forgive all sorts of things. Also, I listened to a remastered version and I noticed a couple small differences. There’s a little guitar lick around 2:17 of Rudie that I hadn’t heard before, and I swear the vocals on Train in Vain are pushed more forward in the mix than previously, which gives it a more vulnerable sound. I think in other places it’s less muddy too. Fun little details.
This is definitely the punk album of all time, nothing beats it. I already listened to this one way before I got it on this list and loved it from the start.
Absolutely a "desert island" record--The Clash are one of the all-time greatest rock bands, in large part because of this album. A tour de force of styles and genres and angry politics, every song is a keeper and the sum total works as well as each individual song.
rock and rolllll
Dang, this is still so good. I went through a phase around 2001/2002 where I listened to this on regular basis. Maybe this album is one of my all time favs? Top 50? Top 25?
I said this about Songs in the Key of Life, but it’s true here as well: maybe the most perfect double album. Not a skippable track, just perfect.
I’m not sure why it’s been so long since I’ve listened to this. It’s as fantastic as I remember. Zero skips. No notes. It won’t end up being my favorite from this project, but it’ll certainly be up there.
Great energy from start to finish.
Tolles Album mit gleichnamige Mega Hit. Auch die übrigen Songs lassen sich teilweise mit Ska- und Punkelementen in ein Gesamtwerk ein, dass öfters gehört werden sollte.
I wish British people were still this cool
Just about a perfect album. It's political. It's fun. It's punk. It's rock. It's ska. It's excellent. If you're listening and loving it but need a break , you can skip out on "Lover's Rock" the only real dud here. The rest of it though is amazing. Top tier.
Without question my desert island disc. An incredibly diverse album that effortlessly traverses an absolutely wild range of musical styles. Six stars if I could.
Fav album of all time
Awesome!
Repeat listen
"it generated an urgency and vitality and ambition (that Elvis P. cover!) which overwhelmed the pessimism of its leftist world-view."
Really really good. The classics but also some amazing album tracks. Best one yet?
Album was a lot of fun and sounds like they had fun making it too
Klassikko, sellainen tämä ehdottomasti on. Tätä tuli jo nuorempana kuunneltua aika paljon. Todella omaperäinen saavutus.
10/10 punk perfection
Lost In The Supermarket... Guns Of Brixton... Spanish Bombs!!!
It’s London Calling, volumes have already written about this masterpiece, that there’s nothing I can add.
Hadn’t heard any of the Clash other than one or two big hits, and I was pleasantly surprised by this album. There was so much variety, and it was really interesting hearing 70s punk music and learning the band’s history. Definitely going to check out more of The Clash in the future.
Honestly, 10/10, beautifully fitting well together with hits like clampdown and the title track, this album is a 10/10.
Very eclectic sound that I appreciated. I always thought this album was just straight up punk, but it only has this punk element woven throughout the album's songs. Very, very good. Might even listen again
Good Album. Glad to have listened to it
Such a great album from start to finish. Not a weak song on it.
Absolute classic album. So many brilliant songs on here
The Clash is one of the best to ever set foot on stage and London Calling is their Magnum Opus. Everything that they are distilled down to a double album that is at the top of its era.
The album that tricked me into thinking that I liked punk, when what I liked was The Clash.
Wow. Theoretically, this isn't the most innovative, out there, or the most emotionally powerful album, it's arguably not even that punk stylistically. But I certainly felt some of that same raw, incredibly human energy that punk should give, this is an incredibly energetic and powerful album with a lot of range and depth, even if I'm broadly not as into the more upbeat reggae stuff. I don't know if I've heard an album that's held up this well over 60+ minutes. One thing that stands out with this album is a strong streak of arrogance (or at the least ambition) that should be off-putting, but it's just not. I didn't make London Calling, these guys did. Maybe their music *can* change the world or something. (Rather less cynical than the phony Beatles they shout about on the opener, funnily enough)
Expected sex pistols part 2. It was not that.
Incredible album. So influential on the music I grew up on. The Clash’s first two albums are good punk records, but they really expanded their vision here. Packed with great tracks with different vibes. From ”Rudie can’t fail” to ”Lost in the supermarket” to ”the guns of Brixton”. Love Strummer as a singer.
Très bon à réécouter
Really enjoyed this. I love all the different rhythms of the songs, and their is a lot of style to the songwriting!
Listening it to the first time in years. Honestly when of the greatest albums ever made and I am not that big of a punk fan.
Love every second. Great classic punk album.
The Good: A city having figured out how to make a phone call! The Bad: The city being London… The Ugly: The need for a double album to convey London’s message… I know that The Clash are viewed as Punk royalty… but this here album, for me, has got nothing to do with punk music… but that is me, and I am an ignorant bastard at times. What is there to say about this album which other people have not voiced more eloquently? It is a double album that makes time fly by… the tunes are almost all great, the freakin’ thing starts off with one of the most familiar songs in Rock’s history… Color me happy… and will dish out a 5*
I bought a copy of London Calling after seeing it listed in the original 1001 Albums book. I think I may have only listened to it in its entirety one time, but I’ve listened to “Train In Vain” more times than I can count. I enjoyed the first Clash album, so I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy revisiting London Calling today. I gotta be honest, I went into this with pretty muted expectations. When I first listened to this album so many years ago, I think I went into it with the expectation that it was going to sound like their version of “I Fought The Law;” I expected just blistering guitars and drums, punctuated by sneering vocals. And this album isn’t that, but it’s all the better because it’s not. I was afraid that this was going to be another one of those ‘I should love this album, but I just can’t get into it’ experiences, but thankfully it wasn’t. I fully understand now why London Calling is in the conversation for the best album of all time. The whole album sounds great, and I love how it embraces the ska roots of punk music. The songwriting is great, and I love the social and political commentary that’s woven throughout the album. The Clash really show off their skills as musicians, and there’s a wide variety of sounds on this sprawling album, but everything still feels cohesive, and each thread wonderfully connects to each other. The rhythms and bass playing really stood out to me, but I really loved how this album was punctuated by great organ and piano playing, some fantastic horns, and some wonderful harmonica on “Train in Vain.” There were so many songs that I loved throughout the album: -I loved the ska roots of “Rudie Can’t Fail” -“Spanish Bombs” proves that you can indeed have some fun with the Spanish Civil War -The saxophone on “The Right Profile” was great, and gave the song a really fun sound -“Lost in the Supermarket” was one of my favorite songs on the album. The guitar tones were awesome, the bass playing was outstanding, and the critiques of consumerism were great -“Clampdown” had some of my favorite drumming on the album, and I really loved the growly vocals too. -“The Card Cheat” was a great piece of storytelling, and I loved the ragtime feel of the piano and horns. Great bass playing too. -“Train In Vain” is such a fun bop, and it’s still my favorite song on the album. The harmonica gives it a great rockabilly feel, and I love the lyrics too. London Calling is fantastic from start to finish, and while it might be a bit to sprawling to work its way into my regular listening rotation, I still think it’s fantastic. Revisiting this today was certainly a treat.
A classic! Punk gained a lot of respect with this record. 4.5/5 Album 39/1001
I don’t really like The Clash but I love this album. When I was a teenager there were too many middle-aged old farts going on about the Clash as if they were never coming and I never saw it myself. But I tried. I listened to a few albums. Weirdly, this one is perfect and the rest I don’t really care about. So there you go. Five stars!
I love The Clash, and London Calling, their third album, is easily one of the greatest records of all time. At its core, it’s punk at its best, full of raw energy, but played by proper musicians with real range. What makes this album stand out is that it goes far beyond punk. Across its 19 tracks, it blends genres effortlessly, moving through punk, pop, reggae, and ska without ever losing its identity. The band push into new territory while keeping that edge, which is what makes it feel so timeless. The title track London Calling is an explosive opener, driven by an unforgettable riff and urgent, powerful lyrics that set the tone perfectly. At the other end, Train in Vain closes the album as a personal favourite, catchy, emotional, and slightly unexpected. Favourite tracks: London Calling and Train in Vain Least favourite tracks: None, every song earns its place on the album Album artwork: Absolutely iconic, with Paul Simonon smashing his bass, one of the most memorable covers in music history
One of my ALL TIME records. 11/10 Has a song with my name on it. THE song
Ten days in and we have our first five star album. Makes me more glad that I didn’t use five stars for any other albums where I considered it, this is a cut above. Rudy Can’t Fail, Spanish Bombs and Lost in the Supermarket stood out of this listen through. Makes the 72 minutes wasted on the Marshall Mathers LP seem even worse when compared. Unlike John Lennon’s Imagine, this showed so much imagination. Really another level.
Obviously
I've never been a fan of The Clash, but I'd be crazy if I said that this wasn't a masterpiece of Punk Rock. It was where the genre found its peak. It's musically very rich, full of hits, great instrumentals, good vocals... anyway, it's a very fun album, and although it's not to my taste, it's undoubtedly a 5-star album!
One of my favourite albums
preslušo već, preepik
5/5
It's a great album.
Every song could be the lead single from its own album. Brilliant
The right profile. Heard my brother talk about this song for two hours. So impressed with album.
Chef’s kiss seminal rock album. 18 fuckinh songs and not one is a turd. Start with London Claling and end with Train in Vain. The audacity!
Love this album! Not a huge fan of Reggae but it works splendidly on this album. 5++++
Such a classic album. First time truely listening to it straight through and it did not disappoint . ‘Clampdown’ and ‘Dead and Glory’ are bangers.
The Clash was my introduction to punk rock. I didn't understand any of the history about punk - and especially its relation to Jamaican music, which I have always been obsessed with, to the extent that it meant I moved to Jamaica for four years. White folks who are obsessed with Jamaica and move to Jamaica are a bit of a tired trope at this point. Thanks to Jamaica, I have a range of wonderful friends and a whole different way of thinking about the world, but I have yet to have done something as cool as write songs as good as what is on this album. It's really spectacular, though probably because the band was getting all the good stuff from JA.
This is what I call, a perfect record. Lyrically, musically, everything is perfect. Numerous themes of songs. Read that recording was painful for the band but, it turns out their best record and one of the greatest albums.
Have on vinyl: Yesx2 Fav Song: Lost in the Supermarket Notes: All timer
This is a top 10 album for me. Bangers all the way through, it never gets old, sounds fantastic. Guns of Brixton still gets me fired up.
This album gathers rock, punk, ska and delivers some high quality stuff. Singing might be a bit annoying, but that's the whole purpose of punk, right? 9/10
This finally ended an extended streak of mediocre albums with a bang! What a great album! The Clash were musically savvy in a way that really allowed them to transcend normal genre expectations. At their heart, they're still pretty straight up punk, but man you get some reggae, some funk, some good classic rock, and one heck of an enjoyable album.
bombetta
Really liked this album
I dont like calling albums perfect, but this has no major flaws. Versatile album with memorable songs exclusively. Gets better every time I listen to it.
For me the best album EVER. SOOOOOO much more than Punk Rock! A true classic!
A classic ska adjacent album.
I tried to listen to this a very long time ago, and I had to turn it off and listen to something else. If me now was there I would have slapped myself in the face and forced myself to put it back on. I quite like the more punk ones, as obviously that's what this band is and was more before this. But I think the thing that's obviously revolutionary about this album specifically is their influences from reggae and not punk music I guess. I think that most of these songs are much more influential to 'modern' rock than people think, as they sound incredibly ahead of their time. Instrumentally is obviously great, and vocally works perfectly. Favourite songs: nearly all, except Jimmy Jazz and wrong 'em boyo, these aren't even that bad by any means. Overall around 9/10
Fantastic, I love this album
Ah yes the greatest album of all time
If you don't give this a 5, you need to get your ears checked and then come back.
