Reviews (page 8 of 12)

I mean yeah, it's a kick ass rock 'n roll album. But live albums just shouldn't be on this list unless they are olde tyme or displaying new material that isn't available in studio album form.

Solid live album

3.5 too much (the magic bus) Enjoyable

the classic rock n roll is good but it’s very instrumentally focused and I found myself waiting for my generation and magic bus to start. the vocals are great so its a shame that its limited here

I don't think live albums belong on this list but it was definitely a hell of a lot better than Tommy. Favorites: Heaven and Hell, I Can't Explain, My Generation Medley Least Favorites: A Quick One While He's Away

liked the song about tattoos

Cool drumming. Not that interested in a live album. The Spotify ‘extended’ version is a very different thing to the original release

Awesome performance, love the theatrical influence. The drama and character is whimsical and exciting. While not consistently captivating, I think a who fan would enjoy the album throughout.

A lot of the reviews here argue against LIVE album inclusion, which I get. BUT - this really showcases how talented and insane The Who really were. Drums and bass all over the place, but the melodies and musicianship are amazing. Some of their classics feel fresh in this setting. A great idea to follow up Tommy with this.

A lot of power and excitement, but also kind of highlights the sloppiness and limitations of The Who as a live act. I’m especially thinking the long drawn-out jams where Roger Daltry yelps out horribly improvised vocal riffs.

Not for me.

Hmmm ... "The Who" certainly is a great band in the history of rock/pop but I never really found a connection to them. The album should probably be a 5 if you count in the importance of most of their albums . But, sorry, for me it is only a 3.

I went with the 6 songs of the original release. I read somewhere that the Who have the longest career with the least amount of original music.

I mean it’s alright, like

Technically good but dull

I will always take a studio album over a live album. This was a fun listen as expected, includes all the early Who hits you would expect and some cool extended medleys, but I could have done without the talking breaks that come with a live album like this.

Neesmu īpašs The Who fans, tāpēc šis live albums tika noklausīts 1x un noglabāts manās atmiņās. :D Is it good?

Had this album back in high school. It’s not my favorite Who album - would prefer the originals

Enjoyed it 3/5

Maybe a handful of “live” albums deserve to be on this list, this album is not one of them.

Live albums shouldn't be on here, and half of the tracks weren't even written by The Who either, so why bother. Should be replaced by some other Who albums or album from other act altogether. I don't think I need a 15 minute version of My Generation - unless I'm actually at a Who concert, that is. 3/5

I'm not a huge live album fan, but this one is decent, it feels a lot more intimate than other live albums. I love The Who and all of their early singles are done well here. Again, not an album everyone should hear before they die, I'd say other Who albums are more vital than this. 3/5

Moon etal in their prime….

aight.

Loved it. Great classic rock.

Am I crazy, or should they not be called “The Whom”? Merry Christmas and happy holidays everybody

Another rather average album by The Who. Not really impressed by their solos or improv ability. Live version didn't change much. The conclusion remains the same - I like few of The Who's biggest hits, but all the rest is more than forgettable.

The Who live goes harder than I anticipated

My second time having a live album from a musician i have never listened to, oh so fun so joyus!!!1

The live storytelling was nice, but for listening purposes I would have preferred a studio version. Otherwise, a good band to have playing in the background during the day, always bopped my head to the beat.

Enjoyable, good rock, great in the background, but I don't think it's anything special. Maybe at the time it was. Wish I gave it another listen, but then, I don't think my opinion would have changed to a 5. Solid 3-4 though.

it's ok

I'm not a really big fan of classic rock, so this album didn't do really anything for me. The only thing I can say is that everything sounds very clear, and they play really good, but I felt bored overall. Also, I mistakenly listened to the extended version, which didn't helped.

3 - I liked parts, but just live albums really have to be special to be included and it just wasn't. The whole girl guides thing was weird

Just sounds like a live classic rock album. Nothing negative to say.

The who 🥰

Solid rock with so much baked in charm.

This was a good live album. Not exceptional, but it did everything a live album should do. 3

Wie im Hangout besprochen. Verstehe das es Legenden sind, aber das Live-Album hat mich jetzt nicht vom Hocker gerissen. 3 Gitarren

The Who really just do nothing for me, and neither do live albums. Not bad at all but not what I want to listen to.

is this list like obsessed with the who or something mustve been amazing in person but doesnt necessarily translate!

Ik wou dat ik live albums kon skippen, maar dan is mijn lijst 'incompleet'. Ja, what can i say, goed I guess? Maar dit ga ik nooit beluisteren. Er zijn maar een aantal live albums die hierop passen en dat zijn de live albums waar er nieuwe nummers op staan of bekende versies van nummers opstaan (zoals de MTV unplugged series). 2.5 dan maar

pretty good album.

Understand why it's here but very underwhelming. Latter quarter saved the rest. I reckon you'd love it if you like the rock opera side of the band. Unfortunately I don't

Although I’ve become quite the fan of The Who over the past months, I didn’t think this live album was as breathtaking as it’s put out to be. It’s ok, but in my opinion, certainly not “one the greatest live albums and rock recordings of all time” as claimed in Wikipedia.

Remarkably boring

Not a fan of live albums. It’s fine for what it is.

Started off pretty boring but damn those last few songs man

The drumming is relentless. Not sure if that's a good thing, there's no nuance, no subtlety. Sometimes it's more about what you don't play. I guess I can forgive that cos it's live and certainly full of energy. Not sure if The Who had that many great songs and they aren't on display here. Is this album's reputation deserved, I'd say no. Maybe fifty years ago. It's even got a blue plaque.

I like The Who and this is solid enough but found myself skipping a few towards the end of the album Killer no filler score: 3/5

Good band, good music

Good for a live album but live albums don't always mean much unless you are already a huge fan.

The Who is a very good live band. This is a very good live album. I don't understand why it's essential listening.

good fun

Classic. Minus one star for being a live album.

I love going to concerts...but I don't love live albums. Call me weird. 3/5

I generally feel that live albums should only be on this list if the artist is known as a live artist and if it comes from a legendary live show. This one checks both those boxes. Unfortunately early Who isn't great. The medleys are particularly good highlighted by the awesome Spark melody and some good imitations of Hendrix and Zeppelin. Other than that only the I Can't Explain hit for me and there's a bad stretch in the middle

There is such a thing as 'too much Keith Moon.'

Excellently sounding and played rock music. The live version of my generation is rich and filling, damn good. What took me out though is the downright porno-esque "a quick one while he's away". Its sound arrangement and style does not fit the rest of the setlist, no matter what your opinion on the subject matter in the lyrics is.

It was good.

I’ve never really gotten the Who, but respect their talent

Impartial, nothing bad to say, nothing good to say :P bit of a shit review this one HAHA idrk, this just didnt click with me today

Since I like The Who, I enjoy most songs on the album, but my criteria for live albums, especially on Election Day(let's go Democrats), is I need to feel like I'm immersed in the concert, and this sounded more like a studio album than a concert. Favorite Song: "Magic Bus".

Rock - I like the second half of the album a lot more than the first half

A notable live album (one of the best in history by many). Unfortunately I am not a great fan of The Who.

A quick aside, I hate when there's only the Deluxe editions of albums available on Spotify, this one's "expanded edition" doubles the size of the album and rearranges the tracks. I found the original on Youtube. Anyway, I think the set is fine, I don't really think live albums should be on the list, I'll likely have a higher opinion of a straight up album of the Who.

Liked it but i think their later work was a bit better, and its a live album so thats a plus from my side

Pretty good. The Who is great, and they have multiple albums that deserve to be on this list, but I have my doubts about this live album deserving to be on this list. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: a live album needs to have something really special to make it on this list. This live album doesn’t have it. Well, on second thought, this album’s version of A Quick One is pretty darn good and might just tip those scales. “CELLO CELLO CELLO CELLO CELLO CELLO CELLO CELLO”

Another live album where it would have been cool to be there. I overall like The Who. I bet I could make a one or two hour playlist of their songs and have a blast listening to it. Some of their stuff, though, is not for me. This was fine, but I didn’t need to hear it.

Still a bit disappointed after hearing so much that it was one of the best live albums ever. The Doors or Joy Division have done better.

More interesting than impactful. I feel a live album should be incredible to make the list, and this didn’t really do it for me

Average 3,4

I like the style, i wanted to give 4 stars, but i feel it could be more

I feel evil for giving 3 stars to a band that people like so much

Solid album

Solid 3 for me.

Why was this live? I want to like The Who so bad. So bad. I’ve listened before. They’re not bad but I just can’t get into them.

I liked this. It seemed like a smaller venue so it was more intimate with the audience. I would go for this again, even if I didn’t know most of the tracks.

I think that this album helps me to better understand the influence The Who had in the 60s and 70s, and seeing them play live would have been a lot of fun. That being said, I still don’t find it to be all that great, but would be good background music.

Wasn't sure at first, but great album! Classic Who stuff, brilliant performances, they're funny when.jot singing

once again the curse of not having the original release on streaming and plaguing me with unneeded bonus tracks

They’ve never been a band I’ve been interested in, but this is my favorite of what I have heard. Give me some good old fashioned rock n roll over the theatrics any day!

Once upon a time, my general take on live albums were that they were a waste of time. If a band had put time and effort into making their songs sound as perfect as possible, why would I want to hear the rough version? That changed with Cheap Trick’s Live At Budokan which rocked my sock. A few other live album have gone on to impress me, but I can’t shake the wariness. This album by The Who is a fun listen, but I’d tend to find myself more taken with the crowd banter and the charm of Roger Daltry than the music itself. Overall, this was a fine album, but I’d definitely pick a live album of their’s over this any day.

3/5 it's alright

3- Stars (7/15)

Ehh. This album was so long. I couldn't finish it even with 3 days to. There were some tracks I like but most of them just blended into eachother as they all sounded the same. It's not really my style.

hard rock isnt so much my thing but man has this been good so far, the energy of the performance is stunning from the outset, replete with some killer bass licks its just a pretty cool album

The original track listing vs what is on the streaming versions of this album is very very different- regardless it's The Who recorded live so no surprises here.

Meh, it’s a live album. It’s good but it’s just a live album. Don’t cut your teeth on The Who via this album.

Not my favorite but good.

Not for me, again... Quite the dry streak at the moment... It's the Who, it ain't bad, but it's too old school for me, nothing to latch onto... Still OK

The link takes you to the 'Expanded Edition' which is pretty bloated. Pare this down to the original 6 tracks and it's decent, bluesy guitar-based rock. Never been a big fan but I liked this

Great album, never realized how good these guys actually were.

I listened to the tracklist listed on Wikipedia and that was enough for me. It would be a great show to see live, but I don't really care for it as an album. Favorites: "Summertime Blues", "My Generation / Medley"

I only listened to the original track list, the extended I think would be too long. This album wasn't bad, but I'm not usually a fan of live albums.

Here's the thing about The Who - the gap between their best and their worst is absolutely massive. On this live album, you get the absolute high of Substitute alongside an 11 minute farce about a grown man and a girl guide, which I reckon even a 1970 audience is wincing at a fair bit. Regardless, hearing this live did remind you that even though they're annoying and stupid a lot of the time, they can't half play. Just lose about a third of the songs and all the talking and it's a good album.

Not a huge fan of live albums The Who sounded very good though, and the songs were good! I just couldn't click with this for some reason I think maybe some of the songs were just a bit too long and repetitive 3 ⭐️

I'm with a lot of other reviewers on the skepticism of live albums' inclusion. The Who, however, are particularly predisposed to releasing a good live album based on their nature alone. They were rocking out! Like, the way The Who went in an out of medleys like it was a game to them! I don't even know all of their material, but what I recognized was great. Also, Pete Townshend on the guitar was amazing. Based on the original pressing's track list, I had mediocre feelings until the extended version of "My Generation." Additional releases had more live tracks, which I tended to enjoy more, though I don't feel it's fair to factor that into my rating and review.

I typically don't like when live albums appear on this project, as they tend to not really add anything of substance that a studio album wouldn't. Still though, I try to look for possibilities. One thing I will say about "Live At Leeds" is that this particular live album gives them a little bit more wiggle room to just do some unadulterated hard rock jamming. And I will say, they're good at doing that. It's raw and yet expertly executed. I wasn't blown away by this, and I still don't know that I care enough about what is mentioned above to prioritize this album on this project, but it was enjoyable enough.

Not a massive fan of live albums.

Keith Moon is an absolute monster. Songwriting leaves a ton to be desired but the guitar solos are sick. Also appreciate how authentic the live experience is. Crazy good energy. Fav Track - My Generation / Medley

Maybe it's just the version I listened to but this would have been better if it had featured the crowd more. I mean, it's a live album. I want to hear the them go crazy. I want to hear the band's repartee with the audience. I want to be warned that the brown acid is specifically not good. I want my clothes and hair to reek of weed and sweat when it's all over. And I want to be there when they come back on stage for their third encore. Music was good. Album production was not up to the same standard.

I was ready to give this one a 4, maybe even a 5 because it slapped but I really have to take issue with the fact that the order of the songs when you stream it is not the same order that they were played in when the performance was recorded live. And look, yeah if I hadn't read up about this album I'd have been none the wiser, but honestly what is the point of re-issuing a LIVE album if you're not retaining the original performance????

Classic Rock

Fun live album!

Honestly not really my thing. I don’t think the live aspect added much and I might just not be a The Who fan. There is some good guitar work, but I just don’t click with it

On one hand, thanks to this project I’m just now getting into The Who; but on the other hand, I’ve never enjoyed live albums. Split the difference?

Didn’t think I liked the who but really enjoyed this

I am not a big fan of live albums, but I enjoyed this - it was a nice introduction to The Who While I enjoyed the songs, I can’t imagine myself returning to this album, and it’s not my top musical priority to listen to any more of their stuff. Also what the fuck is with a quick one, while he’s away? The crowd sounded feral, would not liked to have been there 👍🏽 Oh and another thing, LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS

Pretty good for a live concert, but i'm not a massive fan of The Who so I didn't really enjoy it that much. I can certainly respect it tho!

they jammin jammin 3.5

A great live album that grew in stature the longer it went on. I think The Who are at their best during longer songs where they're able to jam a bit more. A lot of the songs on this album are quick 2-3 minute songs, especially the first half of the album, which isn't as resonating. 6.5/10 (3.25/5)

good. not the tops

I’m not typically a fan of live albums and really don’t think there are too many live albums that warrant needing to listen to before I die! With that said, I enjoyed this album for the band banter. Solid recording and worth a listen.

Never thought I liked The Who, but I enjoyed this.

fehlten noch ein paar Kracher, aber schon gut unterwegs

Who #5

Classic Who but generally prefer studio albums to live.

Está bien, no estaba la canción esta de CSI :(

Not bad for a live album

Weiß nicht, was man dazu sonst sagen soll 3,25/5

Day245 - do i need a live album of songs that are on studio albums already on this list? i don’t think so

Wasn’t bad but didn’t blow me away as it’s a live album with none of their mega hits on it. Seeing it 50 years ago would have been cool I guess

This one deserved more of my attention. I need to revisit it another day.

The Who used to be one of my favorite bands. I still love their music but I don't find myself listening too much any more. If I were to be jonesing for some Who, I would not choose this album. For me I think Tommy and Quadrophenia have more staying power for me now. This live album is interesting since its about 1/2 covers of rock standards. I've always loved the song Summertime Blues and their version which I've heard before. The medley of their popular songs is OK but it leaves me wanting. Substitute is great. Its a great example of their concerts for which they were famous. You can feel the loud hard rock energy and edge. Overall it feels like a very interesting museum piece at this point. 3.4

It was solid but I couldn’t STAND each of those individual audience members that wouldn’t shut their fat little faces

I really like The Who but I didn’t need this album.

It was good. Live albums aren’t as good to me as non-live

Really good

I thought this was okay. I don't understand why people think this is one of the best live albums.

Curse of the live album embellishments.

An average live recording.

Not as good as I thought it would be

Ai Menor .. Vai Tomar No Cu Em Partes… Ate Que Eh Legalzinho kk.

For as much as I love going to see live music performed, I just don't prefer live albums. And I'm not a huge The Who fan. But this was better than some of their studio albums and a great production for a live album.

Correcto

Again, it’s fine. Didn’t hate it like I thought I would so hey that’s something. Decent stuff.

Too much yakety yak.

I feel like my patience with this project is slowly slipping away. There are 5 The Who albums. Have people not made more interesting and significant music in the past 65 or so years? The redundancy. But okay, Live At Leeds. When this rocks, it rocks alright and I can hear how it might be one of the better live albums. Is all I can be arsed to say.

The front half of this record was okay. Kind of cheesy with some cool sections here and there. Then we had the really weird opera about engine driver Irvins which I did not like. After the weird opera though.... things got really good. Amazing Journey / Sparks to My Generation was sooooo good.

Cool album that definitely grows and gets better. I didn't love the first half, it kind of felt boring or repetitive. The second half though, was killer. Amazing Journey - Magic Bus were just fantastic. What I've always loved about The Who is how much energy the have in their sound. They're kind of like the pioneers of chuggy power chords mixed with blues licks. TBH not my favorite album by The Who, but I love the energy in the second half and love how they extend songs and combine with others.

A bit raw but a good listen

Before Baba O'Reily, lotta covers nothing super special here

This got better towards the end, but I found the beginning kind of dull.

I hate the amount of live albums on this project. I'm sure this would have been fucking awesome to attend, but 55 years later, it doesn't have a wow factor and just seems like a collection of random Who songs.

This has its moments (a quick one while he’s away) but I fundamentally don’t really think of The Who as a band I need to hear live recordings of.

10/10 band, live albums just aren't my thing

Hard rock de The Who. Pero no me ha gustado el directo... Ni fu ni fa.

Would have been a good concert to see

Yeah it's pretty good, good fun. But probably wouldn't keep listening too it over and over.

Well executed live album but not a huge Who fan

3.3 Not my favorite collection of Who songs, but Entwistle, Moon and Townsend sure are ripping

This was fine. I like The Who, but why was *this album* on this list? Seems unnecessary.

Great guitar, voice, and drums, but I can't remember any of the songs by name, and find live music difficult to listen to. Other then that there was a good flow in the song, and none of them were to long or short. I wouldn't listen to the album a second time.

Not my style, and being live recordings really detracts from an otherwise decent album. Not sure why this is required listening. My life would not have been ant worse for not hearing it. Album :3 Live:-1 Art:1

This is definitely cool to listen to, although live albums have only really stood out to me if I knew the band already.

Good but too long. You're here Keith Moon really giving up exceptional performance

I don't love live albums by bands I don't absolutely adore. The upside is that it's basically a greatest hits for that era. It was perfectly fine, but I think I'd rather just listen to a Who album

I am already so tired of live rock albums. They’re never really good or really bad. They just ARE.

Heard of them. Don't know these songs. I'm familiar with Rock Opera Tommy.

Not a big fan of Live Abums. Stars are for the band and songs not the album.

Insanely energetic live album by one of the heaviest bands to reach the mainstream at that time. Even today, Live at Leeds sounds almost like proto-punk given how energetic and unhinged the performances are, yet the musicians' technical proficiency make up for an ability to extend out silly songs to their absolute limits. I just think that this is not a record that has aged the best given how much crazier rock would have gotten down the road, the novelty wears off after you listen to hardcore punk and thrash live stuff. It kind of feels like a relic, a time capsule of that early stadium concert experience, with some very simplistic blues tunes being performed with a stunning level of energy.

I don't like most live albums. This album is good and it seems to me that the band had fun. It wasn't particularly challenging to listen to the album. However, there was no track that I absolutely have to listen to again. 3/5

I do enjoy these boys. Live albums are always a bit "meh" to me. Sure, it's kinda fun to listen to Pete wheedly-wheedle while Mr. Moon smashes the drums into submission, but listening to a show like this makes you realize that you weren't there, and there's something missing. Is it, as the Wiki says, "Widely considered to be the finest live album of all time?" Hard to say. It's good -- but I'd rather listen to studio stuff.

It's the Who

they sound great live

How long is this album, sheesh

Hmmm...not very exciting for me. I really didn't get that "live" energy that I have from some of the other live albums we have listened to. And, the jams were just okay for me.

I started off feeling a little underwhelmed by this album - the live sound was just not as appealing to me as the studio recordings by The Who. Although I warmed up to this a bit and did enjoy the occasional witty patter, I’ll still go for the studio albums over this.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Who but this is a good album.

A nice classic hard rock album. Live.

I like the style of music, it's quite playful. I liked Heaven And Hell, Happy Jack and I'm A Boy.

The usual comments about live albums are still true here. They are usually for the fans and I feel while I enjoyed it since I really like The Who, it won't change peoples' minds. It felt like a greatest hits album sometimes and the medley was cool with parts of "Tommy" in it. Not a fan of not having any audience sound in the mix, felt a bit like a studio session at times. Solid album but as a new listener maybe find a greatest hits instead.

Some hit in there, but mostly not. OK I guess.

Pretty cool but still hard to understand why this is on here

Falta mais da energia que eu esperava de uma gravação ao vivo.

Sounds like The Who but worse because it's another live album. Who prefers this format to a polished, studio album? Not us.

Is a live recording of a gig an album? A carefully curated document of a band's being that marks many, many hours of toil and craft? Sure, a gig represents a lot of that ... but it's more visceral, and real time. It's cool to hear, and this one absolutely kicks ... but it's not an album.

Only rating 3 stars because listening to live albums it's not my kind of thing! About the band and their music, nothing to say: absolute classics ;-)

Not the best live album. Not sure if it wants to be Tommy live.

Yeah, this was a fun live record for sure. Favourite tracks: Heaven And Hell, I Can't Explain, Tattoo.

Good album. Well recorded for a live show

Great sound quality for a live album. I think I prefer the earlier Who work to this, but the "My Generation" medley was a standout for me.

The Who are OK.

Fuck Leeds up the saints

This was a good album with a few very nice guitar solos, but because it is recorded live, it is pretty bad quality (not audio-wise). Overall, a bit meh.

I can never decide if I agree with what others have said about this list including live albums. I mean there are some absolutely amazing live albums out there that everyone should hear. So far I have not come across any of those on this list. This one included. I mean it's a good record - fun to listen to, well played, lots of energy. But especially the original version being 6 songs and 37 minutes, that's barely enough to get an idea of what a band would be like live. And this album has been released in so many different versions it kind of seems like a cash grab. I don't know, I'm kind of conflicted about it. A solid album but I wouldn't ever buy it. And as a live album, if you had never heard The Who before I can't imagine this would make you want to go and explore their catalogue more. 2.75/5 which is a shame.

Realmente, é um bom álbum ao vivo (diferente de 90% deles), não sei dizer se é o melhor deles, mas de qualquer forma não acho que justifique entrar na lista dos melhores álbuns.

A quite frustrating album to rate, as it’s a live recording on only 6 songs (3 of which are covers). The covers are actually pretty good with Moon’s frenetic drumming consistently being a highlight, and the extended version of My Generation works surprisingly well (extending a sub-3-minute banger into a 15 minute jam/medley). Magic Bus is a quite underwhelming closer, itself lasting about 7 minutes but by far the least energetic performance on the record, and stops this one from being a 4

I was surprised to hear banter from The Who.

A good flow to the set list. Palatable background music. Kept me awake and my head bobbin so there’s that much

Live album, skipped

I love the Who but didn’t like all the talking…they have much better albums than this one!!

It was ok, but admittedly a bit underwhelming. My Generation always holds up. Substitute was a new one for me and probably my favorite of the songs I hadn't heard.

Most of the reviews here are complaining about live albums being on the list at all. Couldn't disagree more. There are way too few lives, DJ mixes, compilations, demos, special releases etc. in this book. Live albums are a specific format/artform which gets slander for no real reason. So many bands sound incredible live and dull on the studio releases. The raw energy of the real show cannot be fully encapsulated by an mp3 (or flac or wav or whatever), but it can get you close the original experience. And that's assuming the live album is a 1:1 mapping of the live show to audio, which often isn't the case. Sometimes you have recordings from more than 1 show, sometimes the recordings are altered (to have a better sounding release), sometimes it's a special performance designed for live audience and the live album is the only way to listen to it (by design). Numerous other examples, but you get the point - live album is a slightly different, but equally valid artform. Now after this defense of the live album format™, let's talk about Live in Leeds. Spoiler alert: it's not among the best live albums out there. I'm a moderate The Who fan, love a lot of their songs (especially early ones), but they have only 1 album worth listening to all the way through (Who's Next), and even that one has some filler. However, they're a very good live band. The rawness and the jam/improvisational feel elevate most of the songs here. It's still an inconsistent release, but there's a lot to like here. Young Man Blues has never sounded better, Summertime Blues cover doesn't even have an official studio release (I think?), 15-minute My Generation medley rips. Substitute is my fave song here, it's one of their best tracks. Keith Moon's thunderous drumming is the highlight, he's free to do as he pleases in this live setting and it makes for some of the best drumming you'll hear. Overall, well worth a listen, but not essential imo.

Es gibt wenige Live Alben, die mir gefallen. The Who geht manchmal, dann wieder viel zu langatmig.

Balladen sind wunderbar Die Rockigen Stücke mag ich nicht so gern

I really struggle with The Who. Despite the fact Entwhistle is probably one of, if not the best bass players ever and Moon is a great foil. I just really dislike Daltrey’s delivery and Townsend’s guitar style. So this is probably my ‘favourite’ Who album given there are more rock out moments/sections where you can really feel a great live performance, but you have to sit through so much filler parts and songs to get there (Happy Jack ffs).

Sounds like a great gig, not sure if you would get away with the girl guide/engine driver ditty nowadays. Bass and drums keep it chugging along but points lost for operatic nonsense.

It’s good but it’s live

6.5/10

Energetic. Lots of good tracks

It’s a good album, but sort of a compilation. I don’t generally rate live albums as highly. They have to really blow me away. This one is certainly entertaining, if you are a Who fan. It’s not my favorite listen, though. I rate it 3rd of the 3 Who albums so far.

I liked it overall, a mix of songs I knew and didn’t. I dug the longer/ improved ones

The original track listing is not very interesting. Three covers and a whole side of guitar solos.

It was good, a little unnecessary, but good.

Don't love live albums. This was pretty good though, even though I'm not a 15-minute song person. Favorite Track: Young Man Blues

Ja, The Who sind eine Bank. Aber das Album ist für mich eher Durchschnitt. Es tröpfelt so vor sich hin.

I'm not usually a fan of live albums, but I do really enjoy the energy in this one. It makes sense that so many people consider this to be the 'definitive' live rock album. This has some really great songs on it, definitely one that has me reconsidering my take on live albums, but also not one that I'm likely to revisit a ton. 3/5

Idk how many stars I can give a live album… but this was great for one of those!

Kinda weird

As far as Live albums go, this is pretty good.

Rocky and rolly

Liked it 7/10

This is fine, not as boring as I thought it would be. Not sure why it made the list though.

Love The Who, not a big fan of Live albums

It was all just fine, not really my thing and no standout songs for me.

I much prefer who’s next but the band, especially Keith, sound amazing on here.

I think this isn't my genre Fav songs: tatoo :->

Longest album ever. Okay stuff.

I enjoy live albums, but I am surprised that they are included on top 1000 list. Almost all of these songs are from a studio album. Overall, a solid live album.

Very rarely are live albums better than studio albums, and this is an example.

Alright, wish it wasn’t a live album though

yes they are a talented band, but don't think a live album needs to be on here. especially with the super long tracks. I'm happy to listen to a handful of Who songs, but this was about 30 minutes too long. 2.5

Well it’s just a typical live album, just like the rest of them. Obviously this was supposed to be one of the first live albums to come it, which was groundbreaking for its time, but other than that, it’s definitely good music, you can’t go wrong with The Who.

Moon killing it on the drums. John Entwistle's bass is sounding beefy. Fun stuff here. I find myself also in the camp that live albums seem like an odd choice for a list of albums you need to hear. I liked this and it was a fun experience, but I'd probably seek out the studio versions more often than not.

It's a lot. Live albums are hit or miss. Solid album(s) but bordered on overkill.

Ok not the best who songs and of course live recording has a different quality

Ich mag the Who

I would feature other songs on a live album.

Young Man Blues Amazing Journey / Sparks

Erm, like 3. Nice live album but i wasn’t wowed

Not a Who fan but I remember this one being really popular back in the day.

Studio versions probably better

Second half was best half

It's rare that a live album truly captures what it would've been like to see a show first-hand, or to sound any good at all, to be honest. It happens, but not often. Live at Leeds had some of those moments where you feel like you're listening to a really cool jam session, but they're not enough to warrant five stars. Maybe if it was a studio recording, but not for a live album.

Love The Who, but good gravy, I hate listening to live albums.

etwas zu metallisch rockig

Great music for a live album. Not sure any version of My Generation needs to be that long, but the album rocks!

English rockers play blues rock

I listened to the full extended edition, all ~77 minutes of it, and I have to say, while I appreciate the brevity of the original release, it feels insane that they chose Substitute over Tattoo or Happy Jack, for example. Also, I'll say it: you don't need a 15 minute version of My Generation. Half that would have been plenty.

I love The Who. Had not heard this specific live album. A little long for listening and some songs ok. Still think they are good live though.

Didn't really feel it

Bri’ish people making great music= 3 Bri’ish people playing great music LIVE= 3.5 Young Man Blues slaps

Some when I listen to the Who for a long time it all sounds the same. I do really like them but it can be a bit much after a while. And Chole's right, A Quick One, Whilst He's Away is mad and creepy.

It was a decent listen but don’t get the hype. Rating: 3.0

live albums are the perfect background music but would never choose to listen to this over literally any of their other albums ... still really enjoyed solid 7/10

It aight. Had some good moments and some ok moments. Also why it gotta be live? - 6/10

everything sounded the same to me… fine not bad but unexciting 6/10

Usually I like live albums, but their energy-free talking between tracks killed the vibe for me. It’s extra disappointing because the individual songs were pretty good. 7.5/10 for the songs, 5/10 for the album

5/10 - It was definitely an album. It was so mid but it seems like there were some songs that were medleys or crossovers of different songs so it being live was important. I bet if I knew more The Who songs I would love the medleys.

Generally not a fan of live music, I like some of the songs but the studio versions are better in my opinion 6/10

Pretty solid as far as old rock, but I don't understand why this list has so many live albums that just don't need to be here. 6.5/10

Fun, but not super fun.

Favourite song - Substitute

I don't really want a live album.

Fine but I don’t think I’d put it on again. I like My Generation though.

Pretty good live album. I guess I need more context on why it's amazing.

Nice solid live album. No socks blown off, but wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers as long as it brought enough to share.

I know I am in the minority, but I am not a big Who fan. I appreciate the musicality and really like some of their songs, but they are really not for me.

Good recordings. But don’t love the super long tracks

pleasantly surprised, i actually really liked this

the who live album. Good stuff. 3

I mean it is a good album, and sounds great, but I'm on the fence about live albums being included on the list. Having read the history and the purpose of the album I can understand this one a bit more, but even so. My Generation was notably good, 2.5 stars.

I don't really get the inclusion of this. It isn't bad at all, but it's just a live set. By all means include multiple the who albums, but nothing here seems to make it worthy of being on the list. 3

i don't really like live albums, don't know why this is here but it's fine i guess (?). i think that someone that has actually studied music can enjoy to the fullest the live performances from the musicians, maybe i'll change my mind.

A cleaner sound than I would have expected for how I understand live shows from The Who to be. I enjoyed it, fondly remembering how silly some of their songs are.

No está mal, pero no me evoca nada

Eh, not really my jam. Classic for sure, but not my cup of tea.

I like the Who well enough, but not live albums. I tried, but this was a meh

I like The Who as much as the next guy but this hardly feels like their best album. Putting it in context, it seems like it was probably a return to form after 'Tommy'. And maybe for 1970, it was a particularly impressive live rock album. By today's standards, it sounds fine but I'd take a studio album over this any day.

Not really sure what every ones problem with live albums seems to be, especially when the mix very good like this one is. I have not listened to much of the Who, but I like the energy on this album more than studio stuff from what I remember. A few luls, and some strong points, good drumming throughout. Will I listen to again: 30%

Personal rule of thumb: I'm not inclined to include any live album, as good as it is, in my own list of 1001 "essential" albums. There are already too many stellar and important LPs missing in Robert Dimery's list, so I think you should leave some precious room for those instead. Besides, more than half of the songs in the original version of *Life At Leeds* are covers, and covers are certainly not the sort of thing The Who are remembered for today, as hectic as the performance for those covers is. That said, I *might* break my own rule of thumb for a couple of "particular" and unmistakably iconic live albums such as Nirvana's *Unplugged In New York* or Johnny Cash's *At Folsom Prison*. As hard as you try to follow rules, in the end, music appreciation will always be a subjective business, right? 😉 8/10 for this live album (5 + *3*). Number of albums left to review: 313 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 308 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 168 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many other records are more important to me): 224 (including this one)

Nice but don't great. May be in that moment of music history was great, right now for me it's not.

I think I like their stuff better on studio recorded albums.

Gran Album, producido de una forma bastante peculiar ya que el sonido es directo y si bien es mucho más limpio la interacción con el público no se siente tan vívida. Aunque eso complementa un poco cuando Roger habla al final de algunas canciones.

Very long. Some decent jams, probably would’ve been fun to have been there live, but ultimately I don’t need to listen to that much of The Who consecutively.

Never wrote a review for this one my first time listening to it, but finally came back after a few hundred albums and needed to bump it down a bit. There are some really fantastic live albums out there, and this one does not hit any of the same highs as those.

I’ll admit that I can’t really rate this since I was in and out of it on a work site. Seems like it has a lot of character with their little quips betwixt songs. Who doesn’t love The Who.
