Reviews (page 7 of 12)

Now I really like The Who but this is a weird inclusion on the list. Lots of good songs, and longer unique versions of them here, but wouldn't pick to listen to this over the album releases. The live factor is also mixed, it gets kind of racist at one point.

That’ll do, Who. Saved a song: N RYM: Y (#723)

Solid but not the best live album

I get why it’s important. I know people love The Who, but this just doesn’t do much for me.

The Who is fine, but I didn’t need to listen to this live album. It’s not bad I just don’t know why this is on here

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ihan hyvä kuuntelu! Jopa hymyilytti kun kukaan ei tuohon aikaan osannut sanoa Keith Moonille että joskus less is more.

Used to listen to this puppy all the time in highschool

I actually do like live albums but this one is a bit meh. I really like the bass lines though

oude gitaarrock

What's the point of including a concert recording in a 1001 albums of all time? Fave track: Substitute

Fine. A concert cut to 37 minutes with much of it crashing guitars and rock. Didn’t love or dislike it.

Cool — after The Kinks earlier this week, yet another band I’ve always meant to explore more seriously. It’s a bit of a shame that this pick is a live album; that’s always a slightly awkward entry point. On the other hand, it’s probably a pretty good overview of the band up to that moment. The cover is great — looks intentionally like an unofficial bootleg. As I’m writing this, I’m wondering whether I actually know any Who songs by heart… “My Generation”? Is that them? Nice bit of noise. And of course “Who Are You?" — which I mainly remember from a scene in Louis C.K.’s brilliant show Louie, with his daughters cringing in the back seat. Oh boy: I just opened the Apple Music version — 33 tracks, two hours. A double? Triple album? Not only is the whole thing long, but so are the individual songs; quite a few stretch past the ten-minute mark. Here we go: nice, glorious noise. I probably like this. I jumped ahead to a song that sounded familiar — “Pinball Wizard,” of course. Very good. But damn: I just don’t have time for a triple album right now. I’ll give it a provisional three stars and keep it on my list for later.

Listenable.

I'm not sure the Live gimmick was necessary here, but it is always fun to hear bands interacting with an enthusiastic audience.

I was surprised to see a live album here. I am further surprised by how good it is. The music quality is amazing, and the vocals are a bit rougher in the live performances, which I really enjoy. I've always enjoyed the political side of The Who and this has some stellar examples. I only knew "Shakin' All Over" and "My Generation" from this, and they are, of course, outstanding live. "I Can't Explain", "Tattoo", "Young Man Blues", "Amazing Journey/Stellar" stick out.

I dont get the fascination with the authors love of live albums but this one was alright. Still prefer studio versions of these songs, even though I'm not much of a Who guy anyway. Just good classic rock, nothing more nothing less, and they do a good job engaging the crowd.

Normally live albums are terrible but this one is fine. The banter between songs was fun and the band sounds good. No Boris the Spider though so who cares ultimately

Really not a fan of live albums. I really thought I liked The Who more than I apparently do, because I haven't given any of their albums here more than a 3. I think they just have some REALLY good songs that I love, but they also have a lot of filler that doesn't really stand out. Young Man Blues - 4 Substitute - 3 Summertime Blues - 3 Shakin' All Over - 3.5 My Generation - 3.5 (I love this song, but less so live, and it just goes on for way too long) Magic Bus - 2.8 3.2

Halfway through this album, I was thinking 2 stars and would have described this as it sounds like Led Zeppelin forgot how to write songs and morphed into a jam band. But by the time I got to the extended version of My Generation, I found there's more to like. It's a magisterial live performance, full of energy with an amazing ability to ride a knife's edge that feels like at any moment could devolve into chaos and yet holds together--in large part thanks to Moon's excellent drumming. And yet it still feels more documentary than musical statement. I may play this a few more times, the better to grasp the influence The Who had on so much of what was to come--Led Zeppelin included. But it's not an album, and the individual songs are largely forgettable.

Generally not a fan of live albums, but this was fine.

The Who sound pretty great live. 3.5/5

I just dont care for the who I think. Nothing song wise grabbed me in any compacity. My generation is still a good song but its a long drawn out 20 minute version and I cant stand that. Im much more interested in the recording. The playing on this is actually great. They synch up super well and are just all good musicians. The vocals could be better in that front. Its ok but maybe I just dont normally gel with that aspect of this band. The in-between of songs is the best part. I loved the audience chiming in and just hearing the bands thoughts and descriptions of what they were about to play. That stuff is the lifeblood of a live recording to me. And I might not love the music itself but this recording is excellent. It feels so intimate. Like its a bar show with 100 people. As much as I didnt like the songs that type of stuff bumps it up considerably for me. Like a gold standard for this type of album. Yet the music.

Pretty chill

This is one of those live albums that I feel like you need to already be massive fan of the band to really enjoy. I like the Who and all but I think I would rather just listen to one of their studio albums from this era. Favorite track: My Generation / Medley

Not my favorite band, but one can not deny the raw raw energy of this recording.

Better than studio Who but still not my bag

Not a big fan of live albums usually, but The Who sounded pretty good with a real tight sound from all members.

This comes out the gate storming. The percussion from Moon is unreal, the bass is so tight. I am not sure how I feel about live albums unless they're as good/cohesive/themed as folsom prison. But that being said this absolutely rips. Being in the crowd must have been insane

The music sounds pretty good. On the other hand, I’d prefer their studio album vs their live. Too much talking (lol) prior to every song. The band is before my time, so I don’t think I have as much appreciation for the live concert as some of my elders who grew up listening to The Who

Fine but live albums don't belong on this list

I didn’t like how it started, but I enjoyed the rest. It’s got that Who energy, but I do feel some of the production value is missing. The talent is still there though.

First off, it's a long album, but it's fun listen to since you get to experience what a Who concert would've been like. I enjoyed it and have listened to it several times in the past.

I mean The Who is a great band but why are there so many live albums. Especially a band like this has enough great studio albums for this list so a bit disappointed by this entry. Still, this is really good, obviously.

This album is like your dad telling you about his experiences travelling when he was about your age. They are cool stories, and you’re happy to see his face lighting up as he tells them to you. But at the same time, it’s hard to feel a connection to events that you weren’t there for.

Nice with a proper live album filled with classic rock. Often heralded as the greatest live album of all times. Not sure I agree. But, The Who delivers, especially towards the end. Great musicians, weirdly low mixed talk between the tracks, good stuff.

Greit og enkelt. Men kommer neppe til å.høre igjen...

I’ve always been indifferent about The Who. This record shows what a great live band they were. This sounds like a proper live album as well, doesn’t sound like they messed with it in post at all. Pretty good record, but I’m still not crazy about The Who.

This is just good classic rock. Exactly what you would expect from the genre, and that's not a bad thing. My Generation, right at the end had some really interesting instrumentation that I was not expecting. Very cool.

A lot better than "My Generation". Surprising amount of covers. Maybe that was just how things were done back in the day?

Great album, I imagine a stunner for avid The Who fans. As a hobbiest, didn't blow me away

Love the energy, but don't really love alot of the songs. My Generation was great.

I’m not wowed but I’m not a lover of live albums. A 3/5 for me.

Not a Who fan, don't get the hype. Musically it sounds great in places. Vocals are rubbish

Y'know, at first I was like "Why on earth is this live album on here." But then as they were playing, I sort of forgot it was a live album. The band sounds really sharp. And the songs are good. So, like... okay!

01) Young Man Blues - 7,0 02) Substitute - 7,5 03) Summertime Blues - 7,5 04) Shakin' All Over - 7,5 05) My Generation - 6,0 06) Magic Bus - 7,0 TOTAL: 7,08 (71/100) Current ranking: 387/705

Tie pakalbėjimai per pertraukas buvo per tylūs man išgirsti, įsivaizduoju, kad daug priduotų. O šiaip ok dainos.

Lets make some controversy… my generation is one if the most overrated hits of all time, and the who have some good things going but aren’t nearly as good as any classic band??? It’s serviceable

Kind of an odd "Live" LP. I have it. Saw the Who many times in the 60's.

The Who…Maximum R&B. The covers make this album a good one.

Pretty good for a live album

Righteous rock and roll. Sounds really good, but doesn't do anything at all to overcome my general disinterest in live albums. 3/5.

Another live album? Another Brit band? The Brit bias keeps shining through all these picks. Having said that, this didn’t suck. I liked it more than most normal Who stuff. They sound great live.

They sound great on this but at the end of the day it's a live album so not going higher than 3.

6/10 Can't think of any justification for why this should be on the list. It was alright. Highlights: Magic Bus A Quick One, While He's Away Tattoo My Generation

🤷🏼‍♂️

Hard to know how to rate this album. I owned the original on vinyl and that version is horrible. The sound quality was atrocious, and it was 37 minutes long. That version deserves 1-star. The Deluxe version(s) significantly clean up the sound which better showcases the musicianship of Moon and Entwistle. They also include a few additional songs to get the album to a reasonable length (although I'd remove the complete performance of Tommy from any that include it).

I don’t know what I was expecting… I think I was in a bad mood when I started this album, so all I can say is it was better and different than what I expected and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

It’s one of those must haves on vinyl. It’s fun to look at all the different inlays. Oh yeah… the music is good too

The best Who live album.

It's The Who, but it ain't Who's Next. Also could only find Deluxe version which was a bit long and had some chaff

Enjoyable listen, not sure if I'll really be revisiting live albums but it captured the live energy well

one of the top classic rock bands, but I don't listen to albums for solos idk

I really hate live albums, and I’m ambivalent about The Who, but this was pretty decent. Recorded really beautifully for the time, and a couple songs I’d never heard before surprised me. Would listen again, maybe.

I enjoyed it, but it did not motivate me to listen to more of The Who. ★★★

It was OK but I'm not a fan of live albums even if I saw The Who live in 82.

The Who had some good stuff, but it didn't fee like this album really hit those notes. This did feel like it was more of a forced live album than a serendipitous live album. Meh.

Just ok...definitely not their best work.

Wasn't looking forward to listening to this but it was better than I expected. I stuck to the original 6 track LP but also listened to some of the expanded version.

kinda neat idk

Always happy to listen to The Who.

good album but i hate these live ones

Good Songs: I Can’t Explain, Fortune Teller, Young Man Blues, Substitute, Happy Jack, A Quick One While He’s Away, Overture, 1921, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Christmas, The Acid Queen, Pinball Wizard, Fiddle About, Go To The Mirror!, Smash The Mirror, Sally Simpson, I’m Free, Tommy’s Holiday Camp, We’re Not Gonna Take It, Summertime Blues, Shakin’ All Over, My Generation, Magic Bus Mid Songs: Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, I’m A Boy, It’s A Boy, Eyesight To The Blind, Do You Think It’s Alright?, Tommy Can You Hear Me?, There’s A Doctor, Miracle Cure, Bad Songs:

Great album very unique connection between band and audience. Guitar playing is understated but bombastic at the same time. Came away with the feeling I’ve underrated him as a guitarist a lot. He’s doing so much but playing so little at points it jarring.

classic jams by a classic band.

Fine album, but why live?

solid 3.5

Strong, but I just never really clicked with The Who. I see what they did for rock music, and I tried to like it, but it just never really worked for me.

solid, live albums always go harder

Not my favorite The Who era.

Decent

It’s fine, it’s a live Who album. Though I will say, I’ve been listening to a lot of these songs for almost 50 years and it’s something else entirely to take a moment and think about the idea that this wasn’t ’classic rock’ in 1970! This was contemporary, current music and pretty wild stuff, so impressive in that sense.

Definitely one of the slightly better live albums I've heard, it actually feels like this concert was genuinely really good worthy of being made into its own album.

The Who was a great live band, and this is an example of that. (I could listen to Keith Moon play all day.) I have trouble grading live albums on the same scale as studio albums, however. They're totally different creatures. So, I think it's gonna be 2's and 3's for me for live albums from here on. 3 if I enjoyed listening to it, 2 if it felt like a chore.

What a good time. Being a live gig, there's an added dimension of personality here that takes the music - already vibrant and characterful - to another, more intimate level. Any questions I might have had as to the point of this live album was eradicated by A Quick One While He's Away - it's a stunning rendition that could only work in this format. I'm glad the people of Leeds were able to catch a glimpse of culture if only for one evening and pray they were able to take a piece of it home with them.

Listened to the original record and not the expanded version as i want the authentic listening experience. Another 70s rock album that sounds like every other 70s rock album. Nothing discerns this from any other album. Yes, Pete Townsend is an excellent guitarist and you can hear it in here but its that wanky rock style i just dont like. Substitute was good. My generation was about 12 minutes too long. It was ok to listen to, but nothing amazing. And i agree live albums should not be on here. 3 stars

the genre is tolerable, i didn't enjoy this though. It's fine as background music

Started off being impressed with the live musicianship here, from all members of the band. However, I soon tired of Keith's incessant, manic banging of the drums - calm down Keith, calm down! Didn't appreciate the 'comedy' about the girl guide. Won't listen again.

3 out of 5. It was good but it's another live album, another subset that could be reduced to give way to other albums that don't potentially have doubles of songs found elsewhere on this list.

Kind of repetitive, live music isn't really my thing

Моя проблема с этим лайвом в том, что я никогда не был большим ценителем группы Зе Ху. Хороший альбом. Лучшая песня - My Generation.

Boring and mostly just Who stuff that appears in other albums on this list. Waste of a space and I didn't want to listen to the whole thing so I'm giving it the consensus score.

A very good album, and one of the first Live Rock albums to make an impact. The Deluxe version adds volume, but the basic LP version is shorter and more impactful. Well worth a listen.

adding to the live album pile on!! enough!!

I didn't love it, and I like the Who a lot. I've seen them live twice and both were better than this.

Never been a fan of The Who and this didn't turn me into one. I appreciate their talent and place in music history, but just not for me.

already heard this, it's ok

I only had 40 minutes this morning, so I listened to the original version. Probably a mistake, because it meant cutting most of the songs I already cared about! Anyway, their performance is really good, especially if you love distortion in your music. I've never considered them an essential band, personally, but this one is still a fun listen in the right mood.

I mean, it's a live album. Was probably really cool for folks who got to go. 3/5

Solid rock n roll

A short album, only 6 songs, half of them covers, although the medley in the extended version of _My Generation_ contains several others. I’ve never seen the band live but this would appear to capture the energy of their live performances very well. I’ve heard it said though that live albums are “the worst of both worlds”, and this falls into that category for me. I’d at least rather watch a recording so I can see the band, as part of the performance is in the visual. Failing that, I’d rather listen to a studio album. So this is fine but I can’t imagine a scenario where I’d listen to it again.

Compared to some of the other live albums I've been served from this list, this was actually produced pretty well. Feels like a good document of The Who's hard rock sound with the energy of a live performance, though I was a bit surprised by how many of the tracks are covers. Otherwise a decent live album, not sure it quite earns its spot on the list (or indeed the claim it's one of the greatest live albums of all time)

Not too bad.

Lively! The Who kicked ass live, even with the obligatory 1979-era 15-minute tracks.

are 90% of the albums in this list just 70s hard rock because it's getting harder to differentiate them.

Álbum ao vivo divertido. TRN VX PRO+.

As expected. Poor sound quality live album

Fine. Good Who.

I feel the same way about The Who as I do about Queen, i love the hits and maybe one album but never done a deep dive, so i didnt know a good few of these. I did do a project about Tommy being the first rock opera when I was in middle school, but the reason why really escapes me. Anyway. Always blown away by Keith Moon's percussion. I'd never thought this before, but it seems that Roger Daltry is a huge vocal inspiration for Robert Pollard, its uncanny on some songs, like Tattoo. Honestly would prefer a studio recording, some live albums really work for me but this one often doesnt. Occasionally a very entertaining listen, but i found it uneven and not very engaging, felt more like you had to be there

3 1/2 stars I’m not the biggest The Who fan and live albums aren’t my favorite but this was very good. I will definitely listen to it again.

I love The Who but I feel like this live show as an album falls flat. probably was great in person

Only a live album available, wasn’t my taste

Don’t love the who

Already reviewed

Maybe I didn’t have the patience for this one today. I listened to the short version which includes three covers over six songs. The live element was at times quite raw, without much crowd noise, so I didn’t feel it added very much. Ultimately it still scores ok because of the talent of the band. 3/5

Of course I wasn’t there, but a great live album will make you feel like you were. It connects you to the artist at that snapshot in time in a way a studio album can’t quite. They are excellent musicians. They bring the hits. And the little comic asides from the band remind you of a certain type of sense of British humour which feels lost to history.

High 3 for me today, never listened to The Who, this has whetted my appetite for a couple of full studio LPs which i’m sure we’ll get (Tommy, Quadrophenia)

Overall, quite a strong Live performance from The Who. The entire album was vibey with a lot of musicality on display on the instruments. Some standout songs personally were Young Man Blues and My Generation. As an album this will receive a 3.5/5 but will be bumped down to 3 as it didn't quite hit enough to be bumped to a 4 with others.

Listened to the original tracklist not the extended. Is this a album that needs to be listened to before you die? I don't think so. If this is considered one of the greatest live albums of all time then live albums aren't my thing. 2.5/5. Raising to a 3.

I agree with the other reviewer- why are live albums on this list? Another meh from me. Again, if it was playing at a barbecue I wouldn't be writhing in my skin. But nothing is standing out or catching my interest 2.5

Gran directo de una gran banda. Directos forever!

kinda meh 3/5

Fav: Magic Bus - Live Least Fav: Summertime Blues - Live

No doubt that this was the band at the height of their powers. One of the great live albums

Min slags rock.

As far as live albums go this one isn't horrible. Music is okay - I'm familiar with The Who but wouldn't call myself a fan.

I love The Who, but wish this live album didn't make the cut for this 1001 albums list. It features classic songs from their other albums that I am sure are on this list. They do rock hard in their live stuff but it doesn't really sound great. Don't get the rationale... Ok so it's the only live album they ever recorded, but like, I enjoy their regular albums way more. Giving this one a 3. Gonna throw on one of their actual albums and give it a review...

Kind of annoying that the original version doesn't exist on Spotify. Not that I mind 77 minutes of The Who rocking out, but I'm more curious how this sounded in its original condensed 37 minute format. In any event, I'm too lazy to manually seek, so I'm reviewing the Expanded Edition. Some solid riffing on Heaven and Hell -- not familiar with the song otherwise. Things sort of come apart a bit on I Can't Explain -- for some reason, the drums sound a bit out of alignment (slow at some times, faster at others). First time hearing Young Man Blues. Clear to see why this was the opener on their original cut. The whole band is going off here; great energy. Not usually a big fan of Tommy era Who, but Amazing Journey / Sparks jams hard through the back half and I'm here for it. Nice sprawling rendition of My Generation followed up by an equally enjoyable take on Magic Bus. Very solid live album that does a good job of capturing The Who's energy in that environment. For me this is on the 3/4 borderline. There were moments that were highly enjoyable, but I can't see myself coming back immediately.

Solid, but nothing special here. High side of 3, but I don't feel like I needed to sit through this whole thing. Some of the interludes were pretty funny and the songs were perfectly good.

The original track listing for this is so confusing - like, it’s barely any actual Who songs? It’s mostly covers? But the original performance, they did a ton of Who songs! But you didn’t get those until the remastered version in 2011??? Anyways, not great. I feel like I say I love The Who, but have been mostly disappointed somehow with their albums included on this list. Are they not as good as I remember? Weird!

Muito longo

Super long album

Pretty good as far as live albums go. There is a slight creepy vibe sometimes. I agree with one of the other reviews, it is great how Keith Moon and John Entwhistle float around, and are anchored by Pete Townshend rather than the other way around.

better than most of their studio albums

Fun album. I enjoyed the guitars more than the singing. My favorite tracks were "I can't explain", "young man blues", and "summertime blues". I feel like this album is something that can be in a racing video-game. Glad to hear it for the first time.

Hyvä livelevy, vaikka spotifyn expanded edition onkin täynnä turhaa tauhkaa.

моё почтение и любовь всем кто слушают лайвы любимых групп, но для меня с нейтральными ху это мало что даёт)

I quite enjoyed this album, which surprised me because I’m not a massive ‘The Who’ fan. Just a solid British rock album. Live albums can be a bit average, this one is good. Not great.

Live album that isn't horrible

Remarkably lacking in energy for a band known for theirs.

I really do enjoy the live albums but I can’t say anything really popped out at me about this one

I enjoyed it, but I don't get why it is on the list.

I like the who as much as the next guy but this was a lot

Good live band aren't they, songs not so compelling on the whole though.

decent album

The Who are the band equivalent of the 98 lb weaklings who get picked on and then they go into body building and learn Karate. Awkward, violent, prep school boys, with something to prove. Unfortunately, they’re enmeshed in the system they’re trying to rebel against— prey in the spider’s web. They’re the kind of boys who are sad and isolated and who take it out on the nearest stray cat. Which is not to say I don’t like The Who — I do. Pete Townsend & Keith Moon dominate the speakers with unmatched rhythmic intensity. They sound great. But the lyrics and song structure — awkward, striving to be the bad boys, but using the language and manners of middle class British Society. God save the queen! Once, this would have been a 4 or 5 for me, now it’s a solid 3.

Keith Moon vild nok!

Jam band shit men godt jam band shit

adri: 7'5, suena a blues rock, suena a proto hard rock y suena a the who. Está bien, pero faltan canciones de mis favoritas posteriores. Lo de alargar las canciones entre 4 y 6 minutos más, criminal. Ta bien. mar: 6, al principio bien luego pesadito la verdad

Büro, Heidenheim, Deutschland Joa, The Who halt…

some good tunes. some 'interesting' banter from the band. Get the feeling it was better there than on the record

If YT Music had the original 6 track version, I might have given it a higher rating. But instead, it was the 25th anniversary one, with double the tracks.

This just rolls forward! Great musicianship an performance

6/10… brit rock

Fine music, too much chatting.

I love The Who but I dislike live albums. Nobody needs a 15-minute version of My Generation! That said, the medley rocked, and this sounded great. 3.5 stars, but rounded down cuz I'll never listen to it again.

Hailed as the greatest live rock album of all time? Hmmm, I’m not too sure about that one. Perhaps for the time this was but I’ve listened to a few that are better. I’m a big fan of ‘The Who’ though so as expected the instrumentation and vocals are on point. Townshend’s guitar sounds dirty and sharp, that was a dream to listen to.

Slaps, not hard enough 2.5

I always liked the Who alright. Never been a super fan, but loved the hits. This record feels like it’s somehow avoided most of those hits. It’s not bad, but it’s easy to lose focus. I am gaining more awareness and appreciation for John Entwistle’s bass lines, which come through the mix pretty clearly. Keith Moon is a beast. Townsend is great. Still kinda bored though. Don’t hate it, probably a hard 3, but will likely never revisit just cause if I need to listen to the Who, I’ll find a different studio record or something.

Live albums are only fun to me if it was a concert I was at or if there was a special version of a song. Kinda 0/2 … but all together not bad

Never knew they sounded so much like Zeppelin

If you buy your jeans at Costco and wear white socks with sandals, this album is for you.

This was…ok.

Have the vinyl of this, so it gets a 3

I think the live version of Summertime Blues might be the best version of the song period. Lots of energy and decent set list.

Nothing special tbh but I still like The Who every now and then

I didn't know what to make of this at first. Live albums aren't really for me, and the first track didn't sound great, but it grew on me. The Who is my favorite band and there were a couple great interpretations on here, and the remastering really captures Entwistle's bass which I always appreciate, and Keith was ON FIRE for this set. That said: eh.

Exhausting. I like The Who but there’s no need for this live album on the list.

I get why people like the WHO, some catchy and classic tracks, but not really my jam.

***An ok album

Tried to listen to and like the Who, only really even got the Whos next album, otherwise feel they are not actually the sum of their parts. Bit meh. 3 Star

Not a big fan of the who, but I see the appeal.

live record -3 but it's The Who so +1

Not a huge fan of live album, but this one is a classic

Feels very standard for a rock performance, it’s nothing too crazy but I think it is still solid.

What makes an exemplary live album? I'd say that good production is key, such as Stop Making Sense. And a unique selection of songs, presented in a unique way, such as Third Day's Offerings. Sometimes a setting provides an additional layer of meaning and theme, such as Johnny Cash's Prison albums. In light of some of the greatest live albums Live at leeds is a rockin' set, but distinctly middle of the road. I generally would prefer to listen to studio recordings of the same songs. 3.5/5

Expected to like it more than I did

Why are there live albums on this list

Buenos temas pero no me pareció muy memorable la verdad.

Good drumming

I live at Ely but I wouldn't record an album about it.

Idk why but these guys are lame

Not sure live albums should be in top album lists.

obligatory 3 star rating for all live albums

Young Man Blues is a decent rock song albeit a bit sloppy live. Summertime Blues is pretty good. My Generation has some good guitar. The Magic Bus is pretty good too; very hippie. Much better than The Who Sells Out garbage. Not really my thing, two The Who albums in (within 5 albums of each other which sucks and is foreboding for the rest of the list) and I'm not sold yet.

Most of the songs are from albums already on the list. I like the studio versions better. Favorite song: I Can't Explain.

Solid live album but nothing to make you really wish you were there

Overall: 6/10 I like The Who, but I didn't really love this. Live albums are so hit or miss for me already, but then half of the album is cover songs? They had 4 acclaimed albums at this point to choose from and they chose to cover Summertime Blues. I just find that kind of lame personally. Good performace from the band otherwise. Fav Song: My Generation Medley Least Fav Song: Summertime Blues

Yeah it's the Who. But live. They do all the classics. Nothing too out there honestly, just solid tunes.

Good but I'm not seeing the same thing that people who label this a classic are, low 3.5*

Cool live album, enjoyed listening to this show!

not my fav

This is my first album from The Who on here and it’s a fucking live album. Look, it’s The Who. The music’s fine and represents everything the band is, and it’s not the worst live album. Probably because it’s just south of 40 minutes. But like, do I really need to hear them sing songs that aren’t even their own? And when they do sing their songs, they are stretched to high hell. Because everyone knows My Generation sounds better when it’s literally five times as long thanks to the band slapping a medley in it. If I was at that concert, drugged out my mind and surrounded by other Who fans, then maybe that would be fine. Otherwise, just give me the fucking studio album. Give me any studio album, please! Favorite track: Magic Bus, I guess Other hits: the parts of My Generation that were My Generation

This is fine. If I was a Who-head, maybe this would be amazing, but to me it’s just a live rock concert.

Ya had to be there, I guess. Good music with surprisingly subpar recording quality and WAY too much talking. In the words of another live album, shut up and play the hits! Judging on the original songs, this is a solid album. The problem is the reissue. The best songs were picked for the OG album. All the others do what was heretofore considered impossible (at least while Keith Moon was alive) - they make The Who boring.

Im not a very big fan of live albums. Good listen though.

The Who at there best.

Live albums are always fun, especially when the part of the recordings include the band interacting with the audience and speaking on some of their inspirations of their setlist. They had quite the set list for this album, none of the songs were something I was particularly familiar with as I (sadly) only know The Who through CSI: Miami (don’t judge me!) but I was definitely excited to explore this live album knowing I was already familiar with them through my childhood. Though I understand this album to be one of the greatest live albums recorded to date, I do agree with some that have already stated that it’s a bit dated. I can appreciate what this album was and what it meant for its time; however it didn’t impact me in that same magnetic way as many critics described it. Overall, I found this album to be a good live experience of The Who even if it was a bit long and repetitive, I still really liked a large majority of the live record. Standout Tracks: “Amazing Journey/Sparks Live - Medley”, “Shaking All Over”, “Young Man Blues”, “I Can’t Explain”, “My Generation”, and “Magic Bus”

Live At Leeds (free pass ‘cause it’s a live album - although this is far from a greatest hits tour compilation.) Had it on vinyl at 4Ex, but it didn’t get much play. It was only about a half hour long, B Side had two cuts; My Generation and Magic Bus. The studio version of both were much better than the L@L versions, so we only listened to this side a couple times. Side A got some play because of Summertime Blues and Shakin’ All Over. Didn’t realize til this listen that Entwhistle and Moon stole the show. Hard to believe The Who is still a band without those two guys, even harder to believe that they’re still on tour 55 years later. The Song IS Over. (3.4*s - original vinyl version) Long live rock, be it dead or alive!

Not a bad performance, a lot of it just blended together and I can't tell how much of that is because of the Live performance structure and how much of that is just The Who's sound. I'm really not a fan of these live albums that don't really capture the atmosphere of the event. Maybe they might have some appreciation from hard-core fans of a performer or people who are into music history but most live albums that follow this trend just feel like poorly recorded iterations of their studio verions

Live album, Rock. First song is excellent (but it's just rock nothing very unique). Enjoyed young man blues very much Regular degular rock just live. 6.2/10

In deze OG-samenstelling is the Who wel echt goud. Tegelijk merk ik dat ik steeds meer weerzin voel bij de stem van Roger Daltry. Dat is waarom ik toch the Who niet heel vaak meer aanzet. Toch wel jammer, maarja, die stem is er altijd. 7,5/10 Highlights A Quick One, While He's Away Young Man Blues My Generation

I wish The Who had 1001 albums and this list only had The Who on it. Or The Who and Bob Dylan.

Thought I would love this one, but man, it kinda felt like a long soundcheck. It droned more than it roared, then all the sudden they remembered people were watching. Not terrible, just not as electric as you'd hope. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions: - A Quick One, While He's Awaly - Shakin' All Over - Magic Bus

I expected better

The Who play good, but this is just such a weird selection of songs, cut out from a much longer setlist.

“You know what people crave after having listened to Tommy? Our most bluesy songs!” The songs on this live album are such a weird selection - especially Magic Bus; a song I never truly understood. The My Generation / medley is great and of course The Who manages to once again show their exceptional musicianship, but it’s not entirely enough.

It was okay. Clearly this band at their best in their pre synthesizer days. But I’m rating it 3 because I think that a live album can be 2 things: 1) a display of a band in their prime 2) a new sound from a band or artist that is worth capturing in that moment. While there is merit to idea 1 (they sound so good and young here!), it doesn’t really move the needle for me and I prefer their later work.

I liked it but I didn't really connect with it because I haven't really listened to their actual music. So I think I might return to this when I've explored their music more.

Was OK to listen to once, but I don't think I'd choose to listen to it again. Not entirely my type of music.

I figured that, if this was amazing, I would go back and listen to the extended play version. I didn't listen to the extended play version.

This "album" seems to be a live performance by The Who at Leeds if I am not mistaken. The music has aged, and it shines through each song. And I wouldn't say it has particularly aged like wine. I enjoyed it, fell asleep in the middle of the album even and had to finish it later in the day. It was nice to listen to, but nothing life changing. This being my first introduction to the band seems to be unfair, and I would have rather liked to have listened to something more cohesive as a project. The band might have some really unique sound when it comes to the hard rock genre, but I lacked to witness it here. It is very well possible that the lack occurs due to my blindness towards the legacy and history behind this project, but I am hopeful that I will be able to see it more clearly in the future if I ever get the chance of coming across another one of their albums. The final rating completely based on my current music taste : 5.5/10. - 18 April 2025

The first live album, and the first Who album so far. Decent, but short (only 5 songs? really?). It's right before their peak, so a lot of their really great songs aren't included.

Pretty average live rock though there are some bangers here

I guess this was fine and most of the songs rocked pretty hard, but I’m not the biggest fan of live albums or The Who. Surely there must have been some studio albums that could have been on here instead of this.

Een live album? Ok, I guess? FAVO: Heaven and Hell, Shakin all over,

I typically despise live albums, but I will admit that this one was better than average. I'm not a huge Who fan, but I do like pretty much all of their bigger hits -- a lot of which were on this album. I skipped most of the intros and talking between songs, but I still found this album to be too long for my tastes. Overall, I was glad that I listened to it, but I don't expect that I'll listen again. Three stars.

Not my cup of tea, did't like the live aspect Vibes- classic rock, nice instrument on the back Really like the guitar Fav song - Summertime Blues 3/5

I wish Spotify would put up the original versions of these albums if they're going to also include extended versions, I got to Young Man Blues thinking it was nearly done but that's actually the start of the album and there's tons of extras in between the original tracks, pain in the arse Agree with some people about live albums being included, I'm a bit iffy on it. They probably shouldn't be unless they're really revolutionary/influentual in some way like At Folsom Prison or Nirvana's but oh well The rhythm section are excellent as expected, I'm not that well versed in The Who but I always thought Keith Moon and John Entwistle were the best parts about them. I like the extended version of My Generation, thankfully they show restraint on most the rest of the album as that style of extended jamming can get tiring quickly It's cool enough, I would've enjoyed seeing a show like this but it doesn't feel special enough to be on here. It should be a compliment, but it sounds good enough that I sometimes kind forgot it was a live album but for me that actually takes away from the concept, it doesn't really capture that live energy or vibe that the best live albums do A fun listen, but not something I'll be really keen to return to Highlights: My Generation

Got through this album and didnt once stop to see the name of a song, good thing it bad thing?

I'm not normally a fan of The Who or live albums, but this was surprisingly listenable.

Tired boomer rock, but Live!

I dont have any interest in live albums being on the list. It's fine

Live albums are usually not my thing. This one didn’t change that.

It was fun to hear the back and forth banter between the band and their songs. The speaking portions were quite soft and juxtaposed their rock playing style. It was slower paced than the Thin Lizzy live album but overall fine. I like the slightly more raw sound than their studio recordings but the slow pace didn't add much for me.

I really enjoyed the album. Good banter between John and Pete throughout, I still prefer the studio versions of most songs but it was a fun listen.

This must have been a big deal when it came out for some reason but whatever it was, it's not a big deal anymore.

Great but I prefer their studio stuff. But would relisten

The Who were awesome

It's nothing against The Who, but I really just do not like having live albums on here. 95% of them are just not deserving of a spot on the list.

It must've been a fun show to be at.

Loud - check. Crazy loud - check. Not just a reproduction of previously recorded music - check. Live crowd sounds - check. As a way of getting an idea of what a live Who concert is like, it's not bad. But in terms of overall quality of music, interesting variations on songs, technical skills in a live stage show, nothing that grand. A nice piece of history nonetheless.

The Who are my least favorite of all the major British bands of their time. They're just not my cup of tea.

The Who are alright. Just not fond of what was on this album I guess.

It's all right, but I'd prefer the studio album tbh.

This was a fine live rock album.

Real “Ship of Theseus” situation here, as only expanded versions of this are available on streaming. You can find the original tracklist fairly easily, but is it really the same as it was in 1970? Anyway, this does an admirable job of capturing the band’s energy, something that’s conspicuously muted on many of their studio albums.

I'm 4 songs in and this album feels very much like just generic rock and all very samey-same to me. Perhaps this was a great show in 1970 in its own context and time. Young Man Blues is pretty good and is the first song that sounds like its own song. All of the previous tracks sounded like one long song. Moving into the stuff from Tommy makes the album more enjoyable for me Overall, a pretty meh and disappointing album from a band I like

I always love the who though i'm not a fan for live albums in general, i mean i love when the recording is done in one take or saveral takes rather than in the combination of different takes on different tracks(if you know what i mean) but there's a certain atomosphere at live the recording just simply can't capture. this is a great live album, for sure, just, for some unknow reason, the recording itself still sounds a bit off to me, especially you can compair the songs to the album version, i have to say i still prefer the studio version.

Live at Leeds is often called the greatest live rock album of all time, and while I get why some fans feel that way, it just didn’t blow me away. The energy is raw, the playing is tight, and The Who definitely bring some fire to the stage. You can hear how much fun they’re having with the extended jams and the heavier, rougher versions of their studio tracks. But for someone who isn’t a massive Who fan, it didn’t quite hit the same. It’s not bad by any means—it’s a solid live album with some standout moments—but overall, it just felt like a decent recording of a good show. Not quite legendary status in my book, but I can respect why it’s so highly regarded.

Pretty solid

This audio was kinda off for the first songs, right? Also, what is the real track list of the album? On Wikipedia it says the album is like 20 minutes. A Quick One is my fave Who song but I think I like a different recording. The My Generation medley was pretty good but my socks stayed FIRMLY on. Magic Bus is fun

Of the great rock groups, I’ve always found the who to be a bit underwhelming. This album helped dispel that notion in some ways but backed it in others. The music was good, especially toward the end of the show, though it started slow imo (I also agree with Peter that the recording quality was kind of bad at the beginning). I did find the crowd interaction to be a bit uninspiring. I’m not sure if this is a recording issue (definitely at some points) or if they just didn’t have it that night. Overall, a solid listen but still not one that is making me rush back for more who. 7/10

Favorite track: shaking all over. Overall score: 5.5/10

Solid no adds. Little too british rock and roll for me

Never really been a The Who fan, but this is pretty awesome. Just don't care for all the various Tommy rock opera stuff.

Good stuff here. I'm not a Who fan but I can the musicality and the cohesion across the songs. Probably wont seek this out but if its on, I wont hate it.

Sounds amazing. Definitely understand why the production is so influential, especially the drums. Not a huge fan of The Who though so many of the songs aren’t my thing.

-1 for nonce

You’re typical we extend hits by 10 minutes jams. Moon and Entwistle do kick some ass though.

Low 3 The Who have a lot of great songs and yet I have trouble listening to their whole album (except Who's Next). Townsend guitar's great though

2/17/25. Enjoyable live album, not a huge The Who fan personally but did like each song performed. A lot of energy.

14/02/25

Not a fan of live albums but do like the who

the who had some great riffs and a unique sound but a lot of filler especially some of those rock “opera” tracks, ugh

Supposedly the best live album ever, but I wasn't impressed. It isn't bad or anything, I just expected more than generic 70s rock. My favorite live albums usually have extended solos, unique sound mixes, and an unpolished feel to them in general that this mostly lacks. I listened to the original six track album instead of any of the super long expanded or deluxe versions.

Not a huge fan of The Who and this is way before any of the songs I actually know and like. I’ve only really listened to their big hits and Quadrophenia. As far as live records go this isn’t particularly bad, but I still don’t really like it. They did a good job of “Fortune Teller”, otherwise I don’t see why a live record needs to be on here.

favorite songs: heaven and hell, fortune teller, tattoo, i’m a boy, amazing journey/sparks

I would personally avoid live albums on this list. This is fine. By the end it's just self indulgent and you want it to end

Liked it less than I expected. It was fine.

Not my favorite live album or favorite the who album

Pretty standard live stuff. You do get to hear Keith Moon go gonzo on the drums especially on the extended My Generation and Magic Bus.

Started out thinking it was a three, then a four, then that one song went on forever, so now I’m back to a three.

Álbum en vivo sin más. Le salva del 2 que sea The Who y haya canciones chulas. Canción destacada: My Generation

This was a bit of a curveball, I was actually dreading this one after three Who albums in the past 166 days that were so indulgently long and a complete slog. Maybe the under forty minute length helps but I honestly wouldn't mind listening to an hour and a half of this. It didn't like make me a diehard Who fan but it's truly a solid live record. Definitely better than the studio albums I've listened to so far. Pretty cool.

It's okay. I think you had to be there. I did enjoy the album. It had a good sound overall.

3.0 2x

Didn't really love the live aspect, but I did enjoy learning more about the Who.

The sound quality of this album is ass. I don't think it's necessary. 2.8.

Old but not quite gold, its okay.

60's like rock

This makes me get The Who more than anything I've listened to before. Live they showcase their talents and energy better than in the studio.

good rock and roll but a bit generic by age

I have heard this described as the greatest live album of all time. Apparently this really blew people away when it came out, but I don’t get it. It’s pretty good. Rocks pretty hard, I suppose, but nothing life changing. A totally decent live album by a totally decent band.

I liked the live aspect. The music itself was ok. Once again, rock isn't really my thing. Can't say anything stood out to me about this album. Ehh.

Actually quite like live albums, love hearing the artist speak to the audience etc.

Pretty standard live performance tbh
