fav tracks: can you forgive her

Just not my thing, his voice grates on me

Was up and and down on this one 2.5

Hmmm I feel like after 3 songs I got the idea of the entire album. Not bad but got a bit boring. I feel like it’s a 2.5 but leaving 2

Boring music. Fades to the background quickly and all songs on the album sound like any other Pet Shop Boys song.

Cheesy and kind of annoying

This one took me by surprise; I wasn't expecting something so dance-oriented. Regardless, I didn't particularly care for it. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Giving it a 2, but let's call it a 2.5.

Strong two star. Nothing terribly memorable, but some interesting songs there.

Back in the early-mid 2000s I was given a burnt DVD containing (among other things) the entire catalogue of Pet Shop Boys releases. Everything, singles, albums, best of mixes - if it had been released, it was copied there in glorious 320kbps MP3. There were a LOT of Pet Shop Boys tracks - to the point where a random play of mp3s from my selection would pop up with one of them every four of five songs. And I'm afraid that this has rather polluted the Pet Shop Boys for me. They are an important act in the history of electronic music - but this selection is from 1993 when they had broken a not insubstantial amount of ground already. Saying that, I've tried to listen objectively. Is this a good album? No. Is it an important album? Also no. Why is it included on this list? Because Pet Shop Boys. It's the artist, not the album being honoured here. And that's a shame.

Good, not my thing

I feel like by 1993 it was long past time to evolve past this kind of sound

At the risk of sounding like an old fart, I much prefer their earlier work

I am happy to be done with this one, I hated it. I have no problem with pop or synth, they actually had some full instrumentals at times but man oh man this just didn’t click with me. I’m sure I’ve heard songs by the Pet Shop Boys before but I didn’t recognize any of these songs and the vocal delivery just bothered me. The lyrics were just as lame as the vocals. The only song I liked was Yesterday When I Was Mad, it sounds like an MGMT track so I don’t know maybe some of their other work is better than this album but this album get a 2 from me

Didn’t do much for me

Never really listened to this band before, but didn't hate it.

Pet shop boys of the 80s > 90s

Now that I think about it, I think I remember this coming out (sorta, I was 6 at the time) because my sister and aunt listened to “go west” and said something about their “new” stuff was good… well I cannot like this music, I hate the beat and the drums and the voice. The mentioned song is quite catchy but the record overall is lame.

favourite song: dreaming of the queen least favourite song: young offender boring drivel

Not a fan

The first four Pet Shop Boys albums are great, full of instant-classic singles. But the quality drop begins here. In my memory, Very was still a good album (4 stars) and listening to it again, the album still has its moments. But the songs are not so memorable and the production is pretty dated (unlike the previous four albums which still sound fresh).

Quite energetic albumn, very disco. Listened to it just before bed which was not the best idea because the energy transferred to me somewhat.

I think Very is an okay PSB release but it's definitely not my favorite nor their best. Confusing why this was part of the 1001 Albums list but whatever. I like the songs I've liked on here and everything else is pretty inessential for me.

not my jam

im not fan

The first few songs on this album had plenty of similarities to Postal Service. Wonder how much Pet Shop Boys influence their sound. There is some decent songwriting on this album but it is hidden by some pretty bland synth and drum machine combos that show their age. Hard to get beyond that so the album felt pretty monotone.

Not something I’d ever listen to again. Few fun dance songs though

Eesh, not a fan of the vocals at all. That along gives it's enjoyment to a 2 but it's "competent" in what it's doing, but... there are much better things out there. Feels like every song is a cartoon's montage.

Nothing really exciting couldn't really get into this.

Pet Shop Boys was a band that wasn't that good but they had a trendy sound.  For this album they decided they didn't want to have the trendy sound anymore so all that's left is a band that wasn't that good.

Yay..Pet shop boys, I rarely listen to any full album when it comes to this duo. Four songs in I remember why. This has not aged well. If I remember correctly I thought so when the album first came out as well.

really cheesy but in the bad way

A couple of cool tracks, not my favorite album of theirs though. A bit too "soft"

They were never my thing, still aren't my thing nearly 30 years later

Just didn't connect with it. All filler, no killer.

Cant get behind this one. Just a tough listen after about 3 songs.

Good listen, interesting instrumentals and arrangements. Don't know if I'd ever revisit but enjoyed it while it was on.

I didn’t mind the ‘Actually’ album, but I don’t know, this just did not do it for me

A lazy bloke has been breathing helium and seems to be deciding whether or not he can be bothered to say the lyrics while his mate plays about with a synth. Best Tracks: Can You Forgive Her?; I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing; Go West

It's too repetitive, there's no nuance in the sound or production. PSB is one of those \"just the hits\" kind of artists for me, no deep cut hidden gems here.

Love their 80s stuff but this did nowt for me

Not sure why this is on the list. Their other album was better.

Pretty catchy but not my thing

didn't particularly enjoy this one. feeling like it's in league with the other 2 star albums i've rated.

Pretty meh. Why is this on here? There have to be better albums in their discography but I’ll never know. Very repetitive and uninspired.

fucking hell. i bet this was sooo cutting edge back in the 90s. its dated about as well as wacko jacko being allowed his own theme park. fucking nonce.

Yes! Something from my ‘era’ that I could finally sink my teeth into...or so I thought. I’m a closet new wave fan but this album lacks a real killer punch. In fact it lacks the jabs and upper cuts too. Apart from a couple of released singles the rest of this album is very light on. Sadly, each track came and went until the end left me extremely unsatisfied. KAPOW! 2 Stars!

Had to turn this down to get through it. I find his voice very irritating.

Only alright

Fun little songs, but they can get busy at times with synths on beats on synths on synths. Combine that with songwriting that's hit or miss, and you have an album that didn't impress me as much as Actually, the earlier Pet Shop Boys album. Still a few bangers here though, just not consistently impressive. Disappointed :(

Well executed, but just not for me.

Boring 90s Pet Shop Poo

Not for me

This was a weird and very 90s album. Just kinda mixed all pop styles from then into one.

Not my cup of tea, but produced well!

Very samey

go west and can you forgive her are decent songs but the rest are just lesser variants of those. The album as a whole can be reduced to those 2 songs and it wouldnt hurt it

Everything I hate about 80s music

About as good as Robbie Williams

Bored by the third song

This is album 962 for me and if I ever have to listen to another Brit EDM record it will be too soon.

Smurf rave. No thanks

The album is called Very. If this is the Pet Shop Boys at their most, then they are very not for me. Deadpan vocals over what sounds like the demo presets on a cheap 80s Casio keyboard. Everything the same tempo, the same texture, the same emotional flatness. I understand this is intentional. I understand Tennant's monotone delivery is the style, not a limitation. I still spent most of this album checking how much was left. "Go West" is fine. I already knew "Go West." 1/5 — very.

This album is only good if you're listening to it as background music at Tunnel

Not my cup of tea

#403 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ❌ While I'v heard some of these songs, they could've been remixes or something, because I don't remember them being _this_ annoying. Because this was super annoying to listen to. Partly fun, party childish and fuckton annoying. Most of the songs I thought decent had a layer of useless instrumentation that just pissed me off. I think I said "WHY" out loud three times while listening to this one. No. Not for me. Just no. Unappealing 1/5

Fuck off

favs: i wouldn’t normally do this kind of thing dreaming of the queen one and one make five rating 1.3/5

DNF - ohhh I am so unpleased with myself but I cannot hide my true feelings. I struggle at the best of times with synth pop but I could not NOT laugh at the opening to every song I got through Jesus sorry team x

I can’t tolerate this cheap sounding disco music. To name a few, I hate the melody of “a different point of view”. And the sound effect on the chorus of “yesterday” is unbearably cheesy. But overallI can’t tolerate this cheap sounding disco sound. To name a few, I hate the melody of “a different point of view”. And the sound effect on the chorus of “yesterday” is unbearably cheesy. Overall, this album was not for me at all. I can see that some of the songwriting is pretty good and the contrast of the lyrics and the sound may interest some. But the lame disco sound was too overpowering.

Very is...well, very bad. Shitty 90s dance pop. Not a single song hit home. I was not impressed with their earlier album Actually but it was much better. This "coming out" record is lame and must make the list for the leads reveal. Cheesy dance music with the same beat and synths is weak so I can't get into it but this may have been the roots for other, later clubby crap and for that I don't thank the Pet Shop Boys. Amazingly, I would rather listen to Kollaps tear down a building, Beyonce banging Jay-Z, or an actual pet shop full of rowdy animals. 0.68 stars for this slop.

I'm starting to wonder why Pet Shop Boys are put in the upper pantheon of synth-pop artists. From the 2 albums I've heard so far there are certainly better options out there. "Very" as an album seems like it should be renamed "Very Redundant". It felt like they wrote 2 OK songs and then just tweaked them a tiny bit and threw 10 versions of those onto an album. The vocals were overall uninspired and forgettable. Not sure if this made more sense in the moment but during this listen I was severely underwhelmed. I can understand why people would have enjoyed the way Pet Shop Boys transitioned from some of their earlier subdued style to the much more upbeat dance style, but I still found the album lacking. I was surprised to see this was a #1 album and spawned 5 singles, but I guess if you find formula that kinda works and don't stray far from it the masses will respond. For my money, 1 maybe 2 songs would have been OK, but I certainly didn't need anywhere near an hour of this. Pet Shop Boys overall disappointing from 2 entries thus far. 1.46 stars

This stinks

I now understand why people perform self-immolation. I seriously considered it while listening to this album. To be fair, it’s not my jam but there are people out there that this speaks to. For me, I regretted that I had all my senses and privately wished I would become temporary deaf.

This kind of popmusic should be restricted to people who want to hear it and not be heard by anyone else...horrible.

Langweilig

I was tired when I came round to put this on and frankly, I wasn’t in the mood for it. I don’t really like Neil Tennnant’s voice and it’s a brand of synth pop I could live without so suffice to say, I didn’t need to hear this. I ended up listening to other music in between to get me through…I was almost prepared to 1 star this, in fact, I will because I had a terrible time.

Aint listening this not my type

It's dance? This is a dance album? Not good, it's a dance album

I genuinely don't get why this is on the list. As far as I know, the Pet Shop Boys had fallen out of relevance by the time this came out. It doesn't have any of their hits on it, either. Despite coming out in 1993, it's a very 80s sounding synthpop album. Lyrics are mostly standard love lyrics, albeit with a queer bent to them. The vocals are OK, but difficult to make out over the loud synth sounds that were dated even when the album was new. It's also too long for what it is, as it all kind of sounds the same. By 1993, the music world was past this kind of album. It bored me to tears and showed nothing of musical merit to keep me invested. I think it might legitimately be a 1, as much as I hate to say it.

Very artificial sounding, and I don't like it. 1 star

Y'all are reaching

Synth-pop des années 90, les bruitages m'insupportent...

This album made me angry, for some reason. Probably Neil Tennant's voice. No songs added to my faves. Really annoyed. 1/5

I'm a pretty relaxed guy. If we're in the car and you put on something I don't care for, whatever, that's fine. It doesn't hurt me to listen to music I dislike. I will make no comment. Usually. I think if someone put this one on, I'd politely ask them to change it to anything else. Maybe the Village People version of "Go West." That song slaps.

Not for me.

Yeah, I didn’t get it

Can you forgive her? - 3 I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing - 1 Liberation - 2 A different point of view - 1 Dreaming of the queen - 2 Yesterday when I was mad - 2 The theatre - 2 One and one make five - 1 To speak is a sin - 2 Young offender - 1 One in a million - 1 Go west - 3

mega to było średnie – bardzo nie w mój gust

How are there three Pet Shop Boys albums on this list? I have liked each album I’ve heard less than the last and this is no exception. I can’t stand this.

Honestly I did not enjoy this at all. The cheesy 80s beats, the affectation of the singer, the bad lyrics. No thanks.

I swear to god if I have to listen to that orchestral hit one more time, I go completely insane.

the pop form is neutral tending towards evil, some things shouldn’t be normalized

flojo flojo, romanticon, calmado, trompetas medio jazz tranquilo comercial, un rollo

What are … what are we doing here? No east end boys? No west end girls? Isn’t that their only song? Why are we being told we need to listen to an album that came out almost ten years after their only hit? A song I don’t even like?

I could have noticed at first glance that this wasn't my cup of tea. It looks like a bucket, says “trash” in bold letters, and inside is a steaming pile of shit. My cup of tea, on the other hand, is characterized by the fact that it is a cup with actual tea in it that says “Regulation Hottie.”

The music videos are creative I'll give them that

This does not deserve to be on the list. Home cooking again.

Quite boring pop form the 90s

God do I resent those guys with their cheap synths. New Order wannabes

As Brandon said it best on our last PSB album "Meep merp morp". I hate when I open up the website in the morning to see the album and am instantly pissed that it comes up with a third album from a band that I already don't like from starting this project. This album never got above slightly enjoyable at any point. Cheesiest of cheese. One and One Make Five really annoyed me. Far from the worst album that we have heard so I can't quite give it a 1 but this is the absolute lowest of 2s *****I finished writing this review before finishing the album. Now that I have listened to the last song with that horrible background singing it absolutely gets a 1.

3 Pet Shop Boys albums on here is a travesty. It's just the worst sounds of the 80's and 90's clashing and I hate it. I think I've found my least favorite band from doing this project so at least there's that.

Sounds like a worse version of the smiths

Not very good is it? I wasn’t a huge Pet Shop Boys fan at all. Didn’t hate them. Just wasn’t that interesting to me. Kind of like 90s easy listening music. This album was actually boring as fuck. Not a bad thing if you like your music to operate on a level where you can nod off for a bit and when you wake up you haven’t missed anything. Muzak of a particular generation. I bet the boomers still bounce to this. 1/5.

This was never going to go well. I don't like synth pop and can't stand Neil Tennant's delivery. I have a good friend who loves the Pet Shop Boys. We're still friends and I wish him well.

i could not have disliked this more

Awful to be honest and I love their first 3 albums. 90's boys is cheesy and lame.

It's bad. Overall boring and too repetitive. The lyrics were strange when they weren't sucking.

A lot of 90s UK pop clichés in this. I also struggle with the clipped, posh voice of the vocalist and always have. Found it a struggle to get through. I get that this may have some significance for some demographics but not at all for me.

I hear this music, and now suddenly a lot of the kitschy weird dance music from the late '80's and early '90's makes a lot more sense. It's still trash, but now I understand how it came to exist.

I hate disco. It’s muzak. I hate it more than grunge which at least tries not to be middle of the road muzak.

Normally with the worst albums I can critically listen and find some redeeming feature. On this nothing. Its a synth / club thing hugged in a commerical pop embrace. Its boring, repetitive and I cant even stand it as background. When you find music annoying in so many dimmensions it becomes lifeless and takes something away from you. Interesting as well it wasnt a slow death it was immediate for me I hated it from the minute it started.

This is the peak of tepid pop music and a real chore to sit through. To critique in some meaningful way, it has musical elements of some of the synth pop of the 80's. Somehow though, this seems lower energy, the synths feel less meaty, and the rhythms more basic and plodding. I can also hear some influences in bands like The lightning Seeds (although they have a far more convincing sound). I was never going to like this album, given the genre. Over-simplistic music, low energy vocals, boring and repetitive electronic percussion. On top of all of this, they throw in a track about "Lady Di" and it transcends from a shit album into a full on sick-in-my-mouth experience.

Fucking garbage. Still no Seger.

Not for me.

If never heard again, I’d be ok with that

There aren't many bands or albums that I find less interesting than this. 1 star or F.

Not very great. A less fun Chumbawumba. Mostly alternative sounding music but without the punch.

this sounds like late 90's era infomercial music with bad cgi. Also how do you make pop music boring?

Все що я не люблю з кінця 80х - початку 90х є в цьому альбомі. Плюс цей звук та його відголоски потім дуже перекочували в українську та іншу пострадянську поп-музику.

Really? A 90’s Pet Shop Boys album made the list!?!

I find most everything about this unbearable. It earns a single star in my book because I can acknowledge some moments of genuinely solid lyricism, but other than that, this production and overall style of music is so far removed from anything I find remotely enjoyable. Additionally, although I'm sure that Neil Tennant is a very nice, good man, his vocals have to be among my least favorite ever committed to tape. I did not need to hear this before I died, and I most certainly did not want to hear this before I died. 1/5

That was... painful. Sad dance music, if such thing was possible. Very polished and produced, the instrumental part is quite boring and lack of edges, progression, anything that could make it interesting. And the guy is just whinning on top of it with too much reverb on his voice. Ugh.

It’s the Shit Pop Boys. The name says it all

I just don't get the value of this music. I, a man of unbelievably limited musical talent, feel like I could cobble an album similar to this in like 6 months. This is the aspartame of music.

Thirty seconds in and this already sounds like every other Pet Shop Boys music ever made. The first song was bad and yet I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing is worse. This album is terrible, at least all of the other albums that are made up of industrial noise, found sound, screaming or gibberish words are trying something...something I don't like, but these guys are trying to make actual popular music and failing miserably. This is like the music from Barney for grown-ups. Kids in their room are creating better AI music than this right now. Closing with an eight minute song is not helping. This might not be the worst album on the list, at least it's "music", but it's close.

Could be a backdrop to a bad episode of Miami Vice. Flight of the Conchords does this style better - funnier, and not trying to be serious. Sorry guys if reading this, but this aged poorly.

It has what I consider a 80's sound, not a huge fan.

What in the James Blunt vocals? When this album appeared, I thought for a moment that this was the “Boom Boom Boom Boom” Vengaboys. Alas!

Couldn't make it past the second song. Not my vibe and just noooooo.

Sounds like a Lonely Island parody

more like very BAD (high fives, high fives)

The Album is too long, the voice is too annoying, the lyrics are too stupid, the backing music over produced and too repetitive.

The pet shop boys is a crap name for a band…and they make shite music too

Dreary

i wanna go to sleep. please pet shop boys. please.

The most soulless dance music I've possibly ever heard. Someone should have taught them to use the swing property of their quantization setting.

Those synth stabs on Can You Forgive Her are a bit much! There’s an identical sound on Mario Party on the snowboarding mini game. Maybe this was produced in association with Nintendo soundboards. Not a bad song but the drums and synths are far too overbearing. Liberation reminded me of Take That's - Pray. Hopeful, silky, but musically dull. A Different Point of View, The Theatre and One and One Make Five were just completely throwaway, pithy tracks with no substance. Is he suggesting Princess Diana is complicit in the act of him flashing the Queen. What is going on? Yesterday When I Was Mad at least made me think I was on the dodgems. As in it made me feel dizzy, sick and like I was in a park full of carnival folk. The delivery of “You’re younger than me. Obviously” is so lame, absolutely shocking. I Wouldn’t Normally, One In a Million and Go West are all so shamelessly similar in melody, rhythm, tempo, it made me angry. In their defence, I’m not the target audience for ultra-camp synth pop. However, I did like West End Girls, Suburbia and some other of their more somber and industrial sounding numbers. This just sounds like very amateurish synth production. It sounds like the stock synth instruments in Logic with whiny vocals and uninspiring lyrics clumsily plonked on top of it. I was open minded coming in to this listen, but I was perturbed by the end of it. If this was indeed regarded as their ‘coming out’ album, I’d have expected it to be a more vibrant and sonically impactful affair.

Hate them

more like Very Ass

Like what I would imagine is common among many people of my age, I know one song by this band AND it’s not on this album. That’s always good. I mean I can’t say I love that song anyway, but a little trip back behind the rainbow curtain after what was an eventful “gay week” no less than a month ago. Let’s get sickening, boys. You know. I hated this opening. I despised it. I got caught up thinking and then the song suddenly grew on me. It’s not bad. The lyrics are poignant and address doomed relationships built in the valley between insecurity and opportunity and the prospect of returning to that cycle as those two traits expand. Damn. I went to the Pet Shop for a hamster and some cricket chow, and I left with a clear eyed view of mistakes from the past. Bless you boys. Speaking of mistakes. What kind of thing don’t you normally do? Sing songs? Write songs? Compose effective melodies? I’d believe all of that from this disappointing sashay through the closing bubblegum shop. What the hell is going on. This just isn’t for me. There’s nothing happening. It’s so soft and sappy and the lyrics have lost all lustre. It’s sweet but puckeringly so. Next. Whoa. I’m at an arcade in Shinjuku once again. Let me play DDR17 and get absolutely mopped by some lifer with that’s been there for 4 days with Monster energy drinks and a a token on a string. Family channel elevator music hour rolls on with the revelation that no lovers are alive anymore. The PS Boiz killed all lovers. Sorry world. I have returned to the arcade. Club bangers abound here. These have all sucked by the way. When I start just doing dumb sentences, it means the songs are bad. Alright everybody, the roller rink you are now at has run out of orange crush meaning there is really no reason to be open any further. One last song before we close. The janitors are revving their mops at their stations awaiting the vacancy of the track smeared with sweat, aforementioned orange pop and blood. That’s their swan song. The grace of the mop obfuscating the unforgiving floor under the glow of a faded Pepsi scoreboard. Purity regained for at least another day. Close up shop weary sweep, for today has been rolled to its full potential. UH HUH UH HUH UH HUH. Not good. One and one make five. Whoa. New math invented too? These guys are on it. These beat actually goes so unbelievably hard. Well the stabs of whatever that instrument is are fantastic. The rest is mid. More like to sing is a sin!!!! If you’re uh singing in this ON this sin song. Fuck. Most charm is gone. This song is garbage. Holy shit this is the football chant. YOU’RE SHIT AND YOUR TEETH ARE BIG. Is it? Anyway. Go East. Go away from this song and towards the maritimes where things are nice. Well the mid song breakdown of this was pretty fucking sick. And now I’m waiting in the silence for the promised “hidden track.” Bless the Pet Shop Boys. At no point was I angry which I think is a huge win for this project. It was light and fluffy and really didn’t do much for me; however, it was interesting. It made me smile, brought forth an occasional chuckle and was a fun writing prompt. Isn’t that the reason we’re all here? No? It’s for the music? Well, then I feel I’ve wasted close to an hour. This is just not for me, the west end boys strayed further west as their song instructed and left me on the black rocks of Peggy’s Cove relieved to finally hear the crashing waves, over the glittery softness of what “Very” brings to the table. 1.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Can You Forgive Her?

Not my style at all, if I could've skipped I wouldve done it but I gotta listen to all 1001 albums

90s disco? A combination of dance and pop. It doesn’t work for me at all. 3.7/10

Being boring was a great opener once - became life‘s motto too fast

No thank you Neil

It’s a no for me dog.

This was absolutely awful

Didn't really like this one much, although it is a bit better than "Behaviour". Very little memorable about it other than the cover of Go West, which I have very negative feelings about due to its use in an annoying as for rice pudding about 15 years ago. Don't think these guys deserve multiple albums in the book.

Simply not for me on any level.

This was the first album I ever bought, because I liked their cover of "Go West". I remember finding their use of the word "naked" quite scandalous. I'm not sure how much I enjoyed listening to it then, but I find very little to like in it now. It is tolerable when it borrows sounds from acid techno (different point of view) but otherwise I can't see the value.

Wasn’t available in my region

Shit. Stuck in a wii menu that gets worse once the hook goes away. Don't

Imagine lying in your Dentist’s chair, semi delirious from the combination of novocaine, laughing gas, and pain. The dental dam makes it impossible to talk or swallow, and the jaw clamps are trying to tear your lips off. The Dentists appears, tools in hand, and adjusts the light to near blindness. Is he smiling behind his mask and spit shield? He mumbles, but you can’t understand. The high screech of the drill begins, growing louder as it goes to work. Is that smoke? You begin to squirm, and close your eyes. DON’T GO INTO THE LIGHT! Then you notice the office audio is playing Pet Shop Boys. Oh no, too late. You’re dead. Nightmare.

Didn’t like the Pet Shop Boys when I was younger, don’t really like them now either.

Absolute suffering

Generic music, grating lyrics

It's a bad sign if your best song on the album is a hidden cover.

Woof. Our third from Pet Shop Boys, and none with "West End Girls"? What the hell are we doing? The other two albums were fine, this one kinda sucked. Only one song I sort of liked, the rest was too waifish for me. Favorite tracks: A Different Point of View. Album art: Orange, with dots. What else to say? 1.5/5

It just reminds me too much of the pwl style production at the time.

50 minutes of an annoying voice singing over dance beats, strings and sometimes other weird effects too

I remember being in college and this girl that I really was digging said "Have you heard the new Pet Shop Boys album? It's really good." The next time I was at Plan 9, I found it, listened to it and immediately knew we had no future together. That's t

A month ago, on our third and final Pet Shop Boys album, I wrote that “We’re in the home stretch now, under 100 albums to go. And one thing I will be very thankful for at the conclusion is to not listen to any more 80s British synth pop.” Alas, I never wrote my review for “Very,” so there was yet more bad 80s British synth pop to struggle through. Neil Tennant’s vocals are make a strong case for my least favorite on this entire list. Another lousy 1993 album (and PSB’s 3rd overall) just gives me another chance to complain that Pearl Jam’s “Vs.” was left off the list. No, PSB, one and one do not make five. Gonna take more than Tennant and Chris Lowe to get to five. As PJ know, it's "one, two, three, four, five against one." "Very" is a 1, "Vs." is a 5.

Genuinely one of the most boring albums I've ever heard.

I've gone back in time to a 1990's gay steelworkers dance club.

Not really meins

Not their best - far from it! A bit too happy poppy this one.

I didn't like them in the 80s and I don't like them now. Just plastic pop at its worst.

Note: I'm listening to this with dodgey headphones that have to be in a VERY specific spot to play the sound in both ears (it infuriates me) so I might not have had the best listening experience. First song - It's really upbeat! And cheesy. The 'ask yourself now, can you forgive her?' is catchy lol I know it'll be stuck in my head at some point. Second song - These songs seem to just start right in the energetic parts of it without really building up. I think it's alright, just a bit strange at first. This sounds like some song you'd play for Year 5s at a shitty school disco. Third song - This has a little bit of a buildup so it doesn't sound as jarring at the beginning. This intro sounds nicer than the two other songs in their entirety. It feels a bit like a Vocaloid song, if that makes sense. I like the instrumental bit with the strings VST thing. Fourth song - Starts like a classic Vocaloid song lol. I like it so far, but the lyrics and vocal melody sound so boring. The song ended really weirdly and abruptly. Fifth song - This one is just boring. The 'visiting for tea' line is so... Cringey. I don't think his accent or voice fits this music much. And I say this as an English person as well. This song is the worst one so far lol. The constant drums are annoying. It'd be better if it started off with no drums, then they just started a bit later. This one was just generally droning and shit. Sixth song - At least they're trying to do something different with the spoken part in the beginning. But it's just so cheesy and SHIT! Those annoying droning melodies, oh my God, and the horrible shallow lyrics. It's annoying music 6 year olds like. The part where it slows down at the end is at least cool. Seventh song - This one's a little more bearable. I just realised that this is the type of music Mettaton would make haha. Just the most cheesy shit ever. Eighth song - idk how to spell 8th. Anyway I don't know why I keep subjecting my ears to this complete shit. I've never hated an album so strongly. Ninth song - I just want this to be over so badly it's all the exact same bullshit. His voice is pissing me off. I'll give it a 2/10 and leave it here. The 2 points are from some of the nicer instrumental bits.

Not for me.

Pet Shop Boys big respect but you're a Greatest Hits band for me

Something about Pet Shop Boys always feels like what a younger, more impressionable and maximalist producer like me in the 80’s with access to a Fairlight. It’s like looking through the distorted mirror of your worst self. So lots of projection in this review. Be warned! This is just cheese city. Sooooooo much Fairlight. I feel like in every song they are trying to go for broke, shoot for a hit. Every song. It makes the whole thing feel like wading through karaoke hit parade molasses. It’s weirdly monotonous. So there are no stakes, and there’s no reason for anything. Every choice feels at 85% energy, constantly, nothing above or below. A lot of shit thrown at all the songs. Even the orchestrations feel uninteresting, your ear is just getting all this other shit thrown at it! No! I must put my foot down. This is not good, it should not be on this list. I have to listen to our last PSB and see what the heck I liked about that one! Plenty to dislike here. I can’t think of anything that rolled off me this badly since that one Bee Gees concept album. These key changes kill me. Make me feel dirty. 1/5

... so Very underwhelming.

So soft and fluffy. Tepid beats and annoying synth sounds make this a slog to get through. Nearly fell asleep to this boring and utterly wasteful album.

This is like someone took 8-bit computer game music and tried to make something serious. It's terrible..

Very odd. Sounded like a second hand Wii party game with a British twink punching in vocals. Actually if you take those dance scenes from Balan Wonderworld and overlaid these songs it would fit perfectly (1.5/5)

Tô num azar com esse gerador. É um popzinho que eu sinto que até pra época devia ser mega genérico.

I was surprised how much I disliked this album. On paper it seems like it would be my kind of thing, but in reality I thought it was soooo annoying. I remember seeing this in the record store all the time, and being intrigued by its packaging. Turns out the lego case is the only interesting thing about it.

Too nasally. A lot of songs are lacking in bass, but that could just be the style of the time. Most songs feel like they are lacking in depth, or like when a kid finds the alternative settings on an electric keyboard and just presses random keys.

Hidden tracks...so '90s! Never been into this lot.

Terrible

This is not it

This is genuinely awful. It's one thing if it's a decent album but just not my cup of tea, this is just bad music. Incredibly cheesey, generic lyrics, overly synthed. I hope listening to this didnt affect my Spotify algorithm.

Only pain!

No thanks

What the hell is this?

Mierda

There were some songs that almost had moments of greatness…. Then dude sang. Wasn’t for me and nothing really on here.

monotonous 1/5

this is ruining my night. I rage quit the relaxing game I was playing because I couldn't, and didn't even want to, focus on anything because this music is so fucking stupid. It's going to be a struggle to finish this, worse than REM and The Cure certainly. Dreaming of the queen is listenable. to speak is a sin is fine when the singer isnt singing. Skimming through must because I just couldnt. 2 songs on the whole album that didn't make me want to run to the nearest living thing and kill it.

Whoever put this list together is in love with pet shop boys. This is the third one so far. They're not that important of a band, and this one isn't even that good.

I can’t believe I got Pet Shop Boys 2 days in a row. The lyrics and arrangement is even more cheesy than the last one (Behaviour). This reminds me of suburban malls in the early 90s but not in a good way. Go West is mildly anthemic so kind of ok I guess.

Man this is definitely not my type of music. I really don't think the instrumentation is good at all. Another reviewer described them as the "bridge between disco and house" and I guess that would be a pretty accurate description. It's definitely very poppy and reliant on electronic experimentation. Not my vibe at all.

Not for me.

Did not enjoy at all. Not my kinda jamz I guess.

Bad pop apart from the classic Go West

If you tried to listen and it was so bad you couldn’t listen is it a 1 ? Or did you not listen to it? - it’s a 1

Wouah putain quelle merde, On a la musique d'entrée qu'on mérite

lilting voices are terrible

I really cannot stand the music or the vocals. Make it stop.

Yeah nah. Limp wimpy wuss music. Gutless garbage.

I don't understand this website's fascination with this group. They aren't that great.

Two Pet Shop Boys albums on this list is a surprise - and not in a good way.

Very bad

His voice does my head in

It is quite possible that there are some decent songs on this album, but I simply could not get past the terrible overall sound and production to find out. Strong dislike.

This is like if the Pet Shop Boys gathered a bunch of royalty-free synth music, layered on a few instruments here & there, and wrote cheesy (but sometimes, cute) lyrics to match. It's generic, commercial, and very forgettable. There is a lot of good synth pop and new wave, but this is not part of that list.

orke ikkje

Cero interés en este disco, solo me suena "Go West". Madre mía qué peñazo de disco.

Fav Song: Liberation

Not this album - older are better

Not a fan.

why won't it end?? and then holy crap, Go West but it's 8 MINUTES LONG

Venga boys, is that you?

Ai että, toinen mokoma perään. Ei.

Very crappy Eurotekpop. No thanks.

No. Not my jam AT ALL.

Was not a Fan.

Don 't like the Pet Shop Boys.

бляяяять какая же параша блевотная вот пиздец просто я не представляю кто это на серьезке будет слушать.

I keep young boys as pets. Some in cages, some can wander freely in the yard. I have eleven pairs of pinking sheers and a nice smile. Today is my birthday. My best friend is named Martin Beresford. He has an older sister. I like baking cakes.

Not a fan

Can't get over the stock orchestra hits from a keyboard in the opening track. Not for me

I can't tell if this was made to be enjoyed. It's kind of a bit nothing, with a few hypo spots, be as it will. If there was ever an album that didn’t need a secret track to drag things out...

Not for me

Albums like this are make me going to quit this shit

Sooo 90s with digital everything. Not good.

Kinda boring...

The 90s were too good for this shit

kinda slaps for an early 90s UK boy band album tho
