As much as I like jazz, I can't do a whole album of improvisational jazz. Tastes like capers.

I tried but I'm really not into jazz.

Some good riffs and fun pieces of the songs, but not really my style of music.

Første låta starter fint den. Jeg tenkte at kanskje dette var ei jazzplate jeg kunne, om ikke like, så ihvertfall tolerere. Men neida. Det er jo så alt for mye! Og alle soloene!? Hva er greia? Jada, dere er så flinke til å spille atte, men det er jo dritkjedelig når alle skal spille hver sin solo i hver eneste føkkings låt! 2/10

The authors of this book have an uncanny ability to find a legendary artist with dozens of albums - only one of which they'll put on this list. And the one they choose is just okay. Pretty impressive how they can do that.

Growing up loving Chet Baker and John Coltrane, I'm finding it difficult to bridge the gap between that and this record. I mean, reading reviews here that describe these tracks as "tasty" or "fun" or non-ironically comparing them to Super Mario (!) makes me feel like I'm missing the frequency everyone else is tuned into

He's obviously a very skilled musician but god is he boring, music's answer to Frank Pickle.

Felt like I was Carrie Bradshaw’s boyfriend that was obsessed with jazz. Not for me. Too chaotic.

Not for me

This is fine. I like the Hammond B3 in it. Nope. This is just not my jam. The screechy saxophone solo on Minawa is hard for my untrained ear to distinguish from someone who just picked up the instrument. This is a long album of what basically amounts to one long song. Parts of this album feel like a Bitches Brew knock off. Nomali is my favorite song from this album. Ends with the worst song on the album.

The algorithm is giving me a lot of jazz lately, and I'll be so happy when we move on to something else. Jazz is not my thing. Sure, there are skilled musicians doing their best work on this album, but it is just not for me.

I had a hard time getting through this one, but I wont say it doesn't have its merits just isn't for me. Kind of reminded me of Snoopy lol.

I learned something over the past few weeks. I really don’t like jazz. This album didn’t change that opinion. This was a struggle to even get through. Masekela may be a master of his art, but not for me.

I'm not a Jazz man

Too jazzy for me this time. Some other time this would have been three stars, but not now. Didn't even have stamina to listen it through.

Couldn't listen to this during the day, however it was relaxing while cooking dinner. Overall, not what I'm looking for out of the this list.

Funky jazz. For the duration of each track, a singular musical idea is flogged until it is lying at the side of the track as buckets of cold water are thrown over it and veterinary staff scramble to erect screens around it. Inoffensive and perfectly pleasant, it just does nothing for me - I'm sure this improvisational noodling is a real treat to those who love the genre. At best, background music with some occasional funky action.

76 minutes of music to wait on hold to while a city natural gas clerk takes a nap.

It starts off well, but at a certain point it becomes tiring to listen to. Hugh Masekela's refined sound no longer seems as appealing as it initially was. And so you lose interest in an album that sounds incredible (but only sounds like it).

What’s the point of this? Just gross.

This one is tricky, I mean, its jazz. I love jazz, but I haven't heard a jazz album outside of anything by Cortex, Piero Piccioni, or Archie Shepp that has necessarily moved me. While this album is good, it doesn't feature any tracks that made my eyebrows raise or my ears perk up. I wouldn't listen to this again, but that doesn't mean it's bad, just that its not for me. It got to the point where everything started to sound the exact same where the drums would crash really hard and Hugh would be playing in a super similar way, and a whole hour of that is not what I want to hear, ever. Definitely an album picked to seem deep, but it's just...jazz.

The sax on the first track set the early, agonizing pace... and it was all downhill from there... Seriously, trumpets are the Devil... But at least there weren't any drum solo - - - ugh... And unholy Hell were these songs long and rambling... Definite contender for worst album yet...

This wasn't the worst jazz album but it also wasn't memorable, nothing stood out to me but jazz isn't my thing (yet). There's some rolling drum fills that are entertaining but they're scattered amongst a very long, very schmaltzy hour of music for grandparents. I don't see anything that makes this worthy of the list. The best song was the last one because the album was finally over, jk, I liked the tribal drums and chanting. 1.20 for Hugh and his horn.

Not really that enjoyable. Bunch of squeaking and honking. "Blues for Huey" sounded like the drummer was wrapping up the song the whole time. Prob heard this over at nan and gramps at some point. I could skip the jazz era and not feel like I missed out on anything...9.75.

I would have considered myself somewhat of a jazz fan, but as more entries end up on this list it is becoming clear how hard it is to appreciate in anything other than small bites. I was somewhat into this jazz fusion album for a little while, but I definitely didn't need 70+ minutes of it. 3, maybe 4 songs of this would have been fine. Unfortunately the long playtime and a couple really bad songs at the tail end dragged down what would have otherwise been an OK listen. Hard not to pass on Home Is Where the Music Is as a result. Cut this album into a third and it likely picks up a couple full points. 1.27 stars

I just kept feeling like I was in a super dark jazz club the entire time and I was BORED. Of course I need to preface that jazz has never been of interest to me simply because it feels very one layered to me, and this confirmed my boredom and disapproval.

I couldn't finish the thing. I lasted a couple of tracks before realising this just isn't for me at all. I am not a fan of music that has no discernible melody or rhythm, it puts me on edge and makes me anxious.

I gave up barely into track 2.

Too long and boring, I was rather pleased when it was done. It was completely innofensive, but it still gets a 1 for being over an hour.

"Home Is Where the Music Is is a 1972 jazz and Afrobeat double LP". Oh. Great. A mashup of my least favourite genres, from my most despised decade of music, and it's a double helping? Pure cacophony. If you're going to play instruments, at least adhere to a structure. I don't even want to think of the wankers who hear this and give it a 5.

Just miserable

Before listening: I don't know who this is but I'm worried he's some third tear Marvin Gaye or Al Green, two artists I don't even like. I think we're in for a doozy. After listening: This might've been an instrumental so I ran for my life. Don't know if there were words and I didn't bother to wait. Sorry Hugh.

Hin und wieder habe ich mit dem Kopf bei "Part of a whole" etwas mitgewippt. Ich bin kein riesiger Trompeten- bzw. Blasinstrument-Fan. Für nebenbei etwas zu komplex. Fürs aufmerksam Hören zu wenig für mich persönlich.

Not my cup of Jazz

While i believe this gentleman is very talented, instrumentals are just not for me. I was reminded of music played during corporate happy hour or a hotel lobby. Not bad - just not what I’d gravitate towards in most scenarios. Truth be told, did not complete the full album.

Because I’m not a fan of jazz, can’t really rate this album any higher. It’s not an album I’d actively seek out and listen to again.

Not the biggest jazz fan. I want to get into it, and I like a particular sound, but I don’t know enough of it yet to figure out what it is. This was aight tho, stand outs were tracks 3-5. Also liked the drum solo on track 7. Also confirmed this is the father of Sal Masekela. Shout out Sal.

I'm sorry, but this was a gigantic waste of my time. I've been slowly warming up to jazz music throughout this musical journey, but this subgenre of boring elevator music that is essentially just one guy playing random piano notes for 76(!!!) minutes, is something I will probably never understand. I can't give this anything but a 1/5. I apologize for my ignorance, but this was basically the musical equivalent of watching paint dry.

I’ve been trying to avoid giving jazz albums 1s because I don’t like giving genres I just don’t get low scores, but I really did not like this.

Hepsini dinlemeye sabrım yetmedi gerçekten. Jazz'la bir sorunum yok, hatta arka plan müziği olarak gayet hoşuma da gider ama bu albümü dinleyemedim. Parçaların hepsi 7 dakika ve üzeri olunca sıkılıyorum ve Minawa parçasında çıkan tuhaf sesler sonrasında dinleme yeteneğimi ve sabrımı da kaybettim.

Not a jazz instrumentals guy. Plus, most of the songs are unavailable on spotify.

I hate Jazz, but the Afrobeat side of it was not too bad though. I just got listening fatigue way too early and I just did not like it. Might be a little unfair giving it a 1, but that is just how I feel right now.

Overkill! Na Miles nog een hele plaat met toeters is toch teveel van het goede.

Wat hebben we gedaan dat we 2 dagen op rij zenuwslopende toeter-jazz voorgeschoteld krijgen? Echt niet te doen.
