feels like iggy pop is spitting these songs out 2 inches from my face. a blast to listen to

This album is amazing, with fast songs, remembering a bit of punk energy and rock aggression, with nice riffs and great lyrics.

This is the blueprint for everything punk that came after. It out-rocked anything else at the time and still holds up. A true classic.

Among the guitar production (Search & Destroy features fuzzy leads over overdriven rhythm), the throwback song structures (fairly short, punchy, blues-based, verse/chorus structures), Iggy Pop's vocal delivery (usually smooth, occasionally raw shouting) and the themes of alienation from mainstream society, this is the punk template -- just as much as Jonathan Richman's Roadrunner. At the same time, this album sounds just as vital today (2023, as I write this) -- thanks in part to its profound influence and also in part to the garage revival at the millennium's turn. It's also of its time: there's a sort of acoustic number (Gimme Danger) and Penetration plays a sort of glockenspiel-like keys lick on repeat, giving the song a clear Doors connection. Of course, Iggy also makes angry cat noises through the whole of Penetration, just to remind you that they're still weird. This doesn't sound 50 years old (unless you're a real nerd; some instruments have a beautiful vintage sound and the production techniques have some pre-Loudness Wars, pre-synth tells).

Two five stars in a row? What can I say, this really did it for me today. I love the primal aggression on this album, how Iggy and the boys knew this was it, so they might as well go all out. It absolutely stands up to the best of punk. A

iggy rules. on this album. not a bad song. so many hard hitting riffs. shake appeal is the best. cant get enough of that song. little moments like sneaky keys and hidden basslines. iggys growl works here. get this album. get it plz. all energy and all fun.

Many I have heard before but never in completion. Truly a punk masterpiece!

Most accurate album title of all time Favourite songs: Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, Your Pretty Face…, Raw Power, Shake Appeal

Great gitar solos, amazing singer and just an overal great album.

As the first full-length Stooges album I've listened to, this was no doubt some of the greatest 34-minutes ever. The band was fantastic, the solos & riffs just oozed of cool, and Iggy has what a frontman needs to have, presence and character. Everybody complains about the mixes, but they only bothered me on the first couple of listens. Other than that, this is essential listening right here. Highlights: If I had to give a top 3, I loved the solo in "Gimme Danger", and "Death Trip" and "I Need Somebody" were my other favorites, though every song was fantastic Faults: Can't think of anything that affected me personally

Punk-rock de Iggy Pop. Vinilo.

Rating: 10/10

The best record for everyone who is into punk music. I could listen to it every day

Raw power... indeed. This album is viscerally raw and riveting to listen to. This is meaner, grittier and heavier than just about anything that came after it, with a performance by Iggy Pop that just drips with dark, menacing charisma. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, I Need Somebody, Shake Appeal, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell, Penetration, Raw Power, Death Trip

I love this album. It’s greasy dirty and so fun.

album title says it all

The Godfather. Raw Power, raw energy, raw anger.

Sweet classic!

So, what's your choice? Bowie's mix at the time this album came out? Or Iggy's during the nineties? As far as I'm concerned my preference goes to Iggy's mix overall, even though I prefer Bowie's work for the slow-burner "I Need Somebody" and the devilish boogie of "Shake Appeal". Yet as great as those two cuts are, they're not exactly not the one that made this record legendary anyway. The legendary cuts are "Search And Destroy", "Gimme Danger", "Penetration", the title-track and "Death Trip". And only Iggy's mix can enhance how wild those songs (and The Stooges' performance for them) are. The mere fact that some "audiophiles" complained about the levels of distortion triggered by that new mix tells you everything you need to know about the people who don't really get what "punk" means. And, in this case at least, what it all means is that good art must be f*cking *unreasonable* to make an effect sometimes. If you're not getting that, why should you be interested in the Stooges in the first place? I mean, *seriously*?!! True, the Asheton brothers also said that they prefered David Bowie's original mix over Iggy's rework (and given that Ron Asheton hated Bowie's guts, you can't blame him from letting personal feelings get in the way). I would tend to think that years of substance abuse might have damaged the two brothers' minds, but what do I know? Not that it matters much. This incredible third LP by "Iggy And The Stooges" is the magnum opus of James Williamson anyway, at least musically speaking. The man had followed Iggy to England, and stolen the guitarist position from Ron (who took over bass himself following David Alexander's demise). So you just can't expect said Ron to have a clear view about this LP given the circumstances. Whatever happened behind the scenes, nothing changes the fact that this record is fantastic. The Stooges' debut was great garage rock harbouring a string of timeless songs ("I Wanna Be Your Dog", "1969", "No Fun"...), and *Funhouse* was a hectic exercise in channelling free form and chaotic impulses to create relevant art. Nevertheless, "Raw Power" is even better than those two gems. Its proto-punk/hard rock sound, the catchiness of its varied tracklisting, and the sexual angst it conveys make it a essential album if there is one, period. And once again, Iggy's mix enhances such aggressive qualities to make it pack a punch across the ages. In the case of "Gimme Danger", it's not even a mere remix of the same original tape tracks. The song's climax--along with Iggy's crooning between two yelps--are actually different from one version to the next. And it took me this app to pay attention to such details, as I compared the two versions. Not that the original mix was bad per se, it was just a little "thin". Bowie's heart was in the right place, he wanted to streamline the whole thing to make it fit with the commercial success of that glam-rock scene he was a part of. But only Iggy could truly understand what those songs really meant, and this beyond past and future trends. Hence why he found and used other vocal tracks, probably dismissed at the time (along with some other guitar tracks?), so that the song soars just as it was supposed to when it was originally recorded. Rarely has hard rock or punk felt so... traumatic. And also *romantic*, in the original sense of the word. Rarely has an acoustic guitar (the one opening this tune) sounded so much like a damn barbed wire. And rarely has a plea to your lover felt so orgasmic... And this is just one cut from this terrific record I'm talking about here. You also have "Search And Destroy"'s iconic and thunderous guitar riff, "Penetration"'s sleaze (plus its sly celesta emphasizing Iggy's lurid words with a sonic wink to the audience, just as the latter states that he's the one being symbolically penetrated here, and not the other way around), along with "Raw Power"'s violent urges and "Death Trip"'s apocalypse. With such gems, this record is probably as important as The Velvet Underground's debut or anything by that punk scene the band inspired years later. I'm short on time to properly finish this review (more on that later on), so for once I'm gonna copy-and-paste something found online: the "Legacy" chapter from the album's wikipedia page... ' Raw Power has been credited by many sources for pioneering punk rock, although Paste magazine's Lizzie Manno adds that it has "also been cited as a major influence on heavy metal and hard rock". According to Ted Maider of Consequence of Sound, Raw Power is "by far the most important punk record ever", while Diffuser.fm writer James Stafford said, "One can make a reasonable argument for whether Raw Power or its predecessor, Fun House, lays claim to 'first punk record' status." DIY's Jonathan Hatchman wrote, "Above all, the reason that Raw Power should be regarded as, at least, one of the greatest punk albums of all time, is the influence it has provided. Without it, punk may have never even happened." Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols once claimed that he learned to play guitar by taking speed and playing along to Raw Power. Johnny Marr of The Smiths cited it as his all-time favorite record: "It gave me a path to follow as a guitar player. It was an opening into a world of rock & roll, sleaze, sexuality, drugs, violence and danger. That's a hard combination to beat". He has also commented on James Williamson's guitar playing on the album: "I'm his biggest fan. He has the technical ability of Jimmy Page without being as studious, and the swagger of Keith Richards without being sloppy. He's both demonic and intellectual, almost how you would imagine Darth Vader to sound if he was in a band." Talking more about the album, Marr considered Iggy Pop "as the greatest rock'n'roll singer of all time". Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth said that it was one of the albums that shaped his life and music: "that record sliced my head off. The aggression and psychosexual imagery were really mysterious and alluring. In a way, it brought me into all those other aspects of music and literature that were really intriguing, like William S. Burroughs and the Beat Generation." Singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain of the band Nirvana wrote in his Journals numerous times that Raw Power was his favorite album of all time. In his list of the top 50 albums he thought were most influential to Nirvana's sound entered in his journal in 1993, Raw Power appears in the number one slot. Henry Rollins of Black Flag has "Search & Destroy" tattooed across his shoulder blades. He has said that Raw Power is his second favorite Stooges album (after Fun House), calling it "America's greatest contribution to the hard rock scene", to compete with the "Stones, Zeppelins and the Deep Purples". Former Smiths frontman Morrissey once described "Search and Destroy" as "great" and "a very LA song". Mötley Crüe founder Nikki Sixx has cited it as a major influence: "When I was fifteen years old, I remember Iggy and the Stooges' song 'Search and Destroy' reaching out from my speakers to me like my own personal anthem." "I got into the heavier guitar stuff I was going through that adolescent anger thing. It’s a common story but mine was also fuelled by a father and a mother that were gone, and not really knowing where I fit into society. That song really connected with me". Guitarist John Frusciante of Red Hot Chili Peppers also praised the record: “when you think about all the ways bands these days try and expand rock and roll, most of them look pretty silly next to Raw Power. That is a definitive statement". CeeLo Green cited Raw Power as one of his favorite albums, stating that it "seems like it's all done in one take. 'Let's do that one, leave it, just try something else'. With his energy on stage, it seems as if the studio was just destroyed after that album – or at least you'd like to believe that". ' As I said before, I'm short on time and must call it quits now. Believe it or not, just as I was listening to *Raw Power*, a huge storm occurred and lightning struck, triggering a power failure. The blackout has lasted for hours now, so I had to switch from a hi-fi system to my phone so as to finish listening to the album. And now I'm almost out of battery... This is what this album does to me. It's as intense as lightning and it can drain me until I can't go on anymore. Call it a sign. I'm out now. 5/5, of course. Number of albums left to review: 524 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 228 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 110 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 139

I can see how this influenced bands like Nirvana. 'Raw Power' & 'I Need Somebody' stood but overall solid album.

Five stars

Literal raw power with that Bowie tune up.

Ontzettende meevaller.

Really the best of Iggy, and it happened to be remastered for Atmos.

Searching and destroy!

Top notch. As Bowie said of the album he produced it's "a hallmark roots sound for what was later to become punk." Good enough for me. Not a duff track on here and a great mix of straight-ahead rockers and ballads. A timeless classic.

Yes! Favourite tracks: 'Search and Destroy', ' Gimme Danger', 'Raw Power'. 5/5

yaaassssssss

Loved it - the pulsing energy on "Search and Destroy" was infectious and didn't let up. I had never listened to Iggy Pop before, but wow his voice just exudes a constant energy and I love it.

Un de mes albums préférés, que j’ai écouté tellement souvent!

This was damn good. Didn’t expect to like it so much but I get it now. I get it.

raw power is really accurate. its angry, violent, horny, and rusty. i sat here listening to this instead of doing any work so i would say. yes it is one of those albums. also, the album art is giving gender. go iggy

Fucking incredible! Raw, dark, twisted, emotive, but also vulnerable and aching at times too. This is the absolute best of The Stooges. Unforgettable, groundbreaking punk rock for the ages.

Sequência magnética com a fusão da pegada punk, guitarras hard, melodias envolventes e a potência do vocal.

This was my first foray into Iggy Pop and The Stooges, and I still love it.

Blistering ROCK. Love it.

10/10 one of my favorite punk albums while I love their first album, they definitely made a huge improvement with this one

Raw Power not only marks the beginning of David Bowie and Iggy Pop’s incredibly fruitful collaborations, but a more streamlined and powerful vision for the Stooges. Each song hits with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, all crunchy guitars and nasty attitude-just as the purest punk should be.

What an energy. What a raw power. What great riffs. What an absolute legendary album.

Top notch - not heard this before but it sounded nostalgic

Possibly the best punk record of all time. Every song is so direct, powerful and ridiculously catchy, with really interesting and sometimes eerie background instrumentation giving some additional spice

I really did not discover this record until the late 70’s, when punk exploded on the scene. It was then I fell in love with the first 3 Stooges albums, particularly this one. Read Danny Sugarman’s Wonderland Avenue to find out what a crazy bastard Iggy was in the late 60’s/early 70’s. No doubt Bowie’s remixing and James Williamson’s addition to the band played a big part in the beauty of this record. The Vietnam war was still raging & Search & Destroy is as good an opening track as you would hear in 1973. And, except for the more subdued pace of I Need Somebody, it’s full steam ahead for the rest of the record. Gimme Danger, Search & Destroy & the title track are highlights for me. My favourite Stooges.

I'm a bit late putting my review in today, so I did something I don't normally do, and had a squizz at what other members of my group had already said. I confess, I had expected Shawn would be thinking "what is it this week with all of these noisy records? Does nobody know how to play their instruments properly any more? This is not to my taste". How wrong I was! He dug it, and I feel chastised for my lack of faith. I love the Stooges. "I wanna be your dog" was probably the cover my old band played more than any other. Our attitude and stagecraft had a fair amount of Stooges in it (not to the point of cutting ourselves with broken glass and smearing our chests with peanut butter, but there were quite a few on-stage fist fights, and lots of altercations with the audience). This album is classic, classic Stooges, and, probably has some of the best written songs in their oeuvre. The attitude is fast and loose, and they are rocking out fiercely, but there are proper songs in there under the sneer and fuzz. Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, and Shake Appeal are probably my favourite tracks. Love this record. Man, I should go play it again, really loud, right now!

Aptly named!

sonzao

Kurt Cobain's favourite album. In my top 50. 5/5.

The album title says it all.

Solid damn proto pu k with a mean damn edge to it.

This is the ultimate protopunk album. Iggy shouted the lyrics to a mic hanging close the the ceiling. The production is a great mess with all instruments affecting the recordings of the other instruments. Iggy thought Bowie f**cked up, but from the original tapes nothing better can be recovered and it should not. This is the ultimate pre-punk statement in music, lyrics and production: mess, agression, dispair. Just the way we like it and it should be!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Best Tracks: Search and Destroy; Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell; Raw Power

the name is very appropriate, raw, sexy

I love this album. Just a great rock album. Some of the best songs The Stooges/Iggy would ever put out. Dirty, primal energy in spades.

Very rae

Iggy is a legend. Love this sound

Raw Power is the perfect title for this aggressive, bullish and frankly excellent piece of glam rock meets punk. Loud, brash and on the verge of some sort of breakdown.

This hits every note. A Classic

I listened to the 1997 Iggy Pop remix and the Bowie mix. The Bowie mix certainly hides how loose some of the performances are but the Pop mix is the superior mix. As for the album, appropriately named and exciting to listen to. Worth the time of any guitar rock lover.

The boys from Ann Arbor showing us that they know how to ROCK. No complaints, no fat. Just good fucking jams.

Iggy Pop was the best unrestrained junkie frontman ever. This album is so unhinged for its time. "Raw Power" is an anthem. Standout tracks for me are "Penetration" and "Death Trip".

This week has been intense - great album after great album - I cannot keep up. Another of my all time favourites - blisteringly violent, sexy, cool, with Iggy's infinite swagger, and the Stooges' perfect magic in a bottle proto-punk. I don't think the essence of this record can ever be replicated by anyone except alas the original members together in the same room. All three original Stooges albums are perfection personified.

Najviše punk od prva tri stoogesa. Pogotovo u ovom iggyevon agresivnom miksu.

An all time fave.

Love it

As relevant and raw as it always was.

Raw Power is right, holy shit. A diesel engine. I know this is an intense thing to say, but this sound is so damn good, it's almost like, how can anyone hope to top it?

I think I prefer the Iggy Pop Mixes over Bowie, at least on Spotify. For an album called Raw Power, having it heavily clipped thematically just makes it feel more appropriate to the material in my opinion, but maybe with a good setup the dynamics of the Bowie mix are better, but there is some major ducking on Search and Destroy that is distracting. Regardless, the album is as advertised. Search and Destroy and Gimme Danger are awesome. The album just makes me wanna fuck shit up, destroy a park, drink a ton, and... you get the idea. I can see how influential this album was for punk for sure. Probably a 4 overall in listening enjoyment since the later tracks fall off a bit, but a 5 for importance.

i swear to god this is one my favroite 70s album 5/5

Truly raw.

Search and Destroy get's it a 5 star. I think Fun house is bit more edgy and raw. It boggles my mind all the time what these guys were doing in the late 60/early 70's.

Brilliant. This along with Kill City are my favorite Stooges albums.

Yup. been thur done dat

Punk-rock de Iggy Pop. Vinilo.

I wasn't expecting this - it's brilliant! The title track owes a lot to white light/white heat, but wow! If you're in the mood for energy, the album title is about as descriptive as it gets. Iggy's bonkers but I love it. Compare this to yesterday's terrible Minor Threat album, why are they both on the list? The guitar is sensational throughout, way ahead of its time and very obviously influential. Why isn't James Williamson better known? This blows any punk album out of the water - and they got there first. Amazing. Note: play the Iggy 'violent' mix- Bowie's earlier mix sounds muffled and though still great, the Iggy mix is much rawer and more powerful.

It is so badass and thats that

Seldom an album title was so appropriate. This is raw and powerful start to finish, and it's loud AF; Even if you tried to lower the volume (although I see no reason to do such a thing) it still sounds loud, especially in the Iggy Pop mix. It was also ahead of its time, in the sense that almost none of the proto-punk albums showcase a fully formed punk sound as Raw Power does. For me, an absolute keeper.

Instantly loved this and it didn't let up until the end.

Has never been surpassed, all guitar bands since is copyists

Look at him though. He doesn't have any raw power. Absolute weakling. Pussy.

What you've done wrong here lads is that you've written an album called Raw Power and not a single song is about SHACK. Massive oversight.

A weird, spidery album that delves further into the late-night freakiness that Lou Reed initially tapped. Love it.

loved every second of it

Easily one of my favorite albums of all time every single song rules I would love to have seen them live during this time period. Funhouse is also a masterpiece and a classic. 5/5

Love this album. Already owned it.

Two Iggy albums in my first 15! And both 5 stars for me. Raw Power grabs you by the ears from the first song and never lets go.

I often think of GG Allin as the poor man's Iggy Pop (and the musician's Stefan Sagmeister). Search and Destroy is soooo good, and track two 'Gimme Danger' has too much cowbell at the beginning (thankfully it subsides halfway through). The dirty blues of I Need Somebody is great and the general sound of Raw Power is unique. Tho GG is dead, Iggy lives on. Would be great to see him perform.

"Raw Power" is about as apt a name for an album as you can get here with The Stooges. I'm giving each of The Stooges albums 4 stars, each one just barely missing the mark for me in one way or another. But the band is one of my favorite discoveries in the 1001. I knew who Iggy Pop was, and knew the name The Stooges, but couldn't identify any of their songs 5 years ago (well, maybe "I Wanna Be Your Dog"). I can now fully appreciate their trailblazing sound and vast influence, and for that we'll tack an extra star on "Raw Power."

Been playing the Iggy mix for years, never heard the Bowie mix until now. The Iggy mix pips it for me, just gels with the sleazy, dangerous vibe of the songs a bit more for me.

Brilliant, just brilliant. The opening line of the first song wins stars and that's before you even get into the totally in your face production, or the awesome collection of songs on here.

Fantastic album. Raw Power is the perfect description. Punk with talent. Amazing.

primitive and ferocious, muddy and brutal - a great album

Not a huge fan, to be honest

Search And Destroy’s “I’m a streetwalking cheetah with a hide full of napalm, I’m a runaway son of a nuclear A-bomb” may be the best opening couplet of any first track from the 70's. I love every song on this record and consider it one of the most influential albums of my youth. It should have sold a trillion copies...

Absolutely raw and powerful. Punk at its best.

Love this

So good

A more polished Stooges

Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell. Mood: si fuera música para hacer el aseo, termino rompiendo todos mis muebles.

5. aus Prinzip und weil er geholfen hat, die 60er zu beenden

Such a great album. Shake Appeal is one of my favorite songs!

Proto punk, hard rock classic. Search and Destroy is practically a perfect rock song. 9-10/10

Big fan

Iggy Pop and the Stooges are awesome. This album just cements that. Favorite tracks: "Search and Destroy", "I Need Somebody"

What else is there to say about Raw Power except that it’s fucking awesome?

Dirty dirty dirty. Just the way you want it.

Oh, this guy again. Ok, this is more like it. I expected an education on why Pop is considered the godfather of punk and "The Idiot" did not deliver. This does. I kinda' like it.

I always get so confused when I hear Iggy Pop. This is a guy who auditioned to be the new singer of the doors when Jim Morrison died. I just always wonder how that would have went. Well, anyways, my only big gripe with this album is the sound quality. The vocals are too high. It makes the speaker sound blown. I get it, it’s punk and it’s raw. But man I could have used a crisper sound. If only they re-recorded the album like Taylor Swift did with hers. Not that hers sounded any different because the original and the new aren’t that many years apart. You get the point right? This album goes down with the other Stooges albums I have heard. Meaning, they are good and I am left wondering why I don’t listen to more. Choice cut: Search and Destroy

Best prima. Leuker dan gedacht

my 2nd favourite stooges album, I enjoy the loudness of it. solid 8/10. First listen tracklist ranking: 1. Search and Destroy 2. Raw Power 3. Gimme Danger 4. Shake Appeal 5. Penetration 6. Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell 7. I Need Somebody

yeah this is pretty solid. the sound is a fair bit harder than i expected for an early 70s release? i enjoy the raw sound on show in tracks like "search and destroy" and "your pretty face is going to hell", and i'm into the real fucked sounding guitar shredding, with "death trip" maybe being the best example. my favourite track is probably "penetration", which has all of the above as well as what sounds like iggy pop painfully transforming into a cat 2/3 of the way through, rounding it out with lyrics that could either be about shooting up or pegging. being who i am, i'm choosing to believe it's the latter :O3 it's short, but i can respect an album that shoots its shot then fucks off, yknow? it's a pretty good way to spend 34 minutes, even if it's not the best.

Encore une fois, la gang à Bowie, Iggy Pop, c'est pas mon préféré, mais j'ai préféré lui à Funhouse. J'ai aimé l'énergie punk et le son un peu 'the doors'

I was in the mood for some fast, hard hitting punk this morning, and this fit the bill. This is probably my favorite Stooges album and Search And Destroy is one of my favorite tracks. Raw Power and Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell are also pretty killer.

Iggy Pop! Another one that I hadn't really heard before, it's brilliant hearing more if these albums and Iggy didn't disappoint.

Literally does what it says on the tin.

I've spent a long time underestimating and dismissing the Stooges, but apparently I was mistaken. Iggy, Asheton brothers and James, I salute you all.

Punk, rock n roll, diversão e sujeira. GK Kunten.

This was really good. Not much to say other than that lol

Getting into this with "Search and Destroy" I found myself really disappointed when Iggy started singing like that, I couldn't bear that delivery and i honestly think this is one of the worst Stooges songs. Nevertheless the record picked up its pace really quickly with the really well sung "Gimme Danger", this was the Iggy Pop I knew all along, we then proceed with the guitar-heavy "Your Pretty Face...": Almost an introduction to what will be the mood of the rest of the album. Overall a super solid record, I guess I was disappointed by the first track since it was the most streamed on the album, also expected a more "Iggy Pop solo-album" vibe but got something rather more chaotic and (obviously) raw.

stop aruing about the mix you fucking nerds grandpa punk is on

This rocks. Ashamed to say I haven't heard it before. This is what I'm here for

Not my favourite Stooges LP but still good. Roll on when Fun House gets generated!

The Stooges hit with a sound out of time, a tuneful messy punk that could have slotted right in with 1981’s The Decline of Western Civilisation. Search and Destroy has to be one of the all time great album openers

Another stepping stone on the way to punk, although less compelling than the earlier The Stooges album.

So the only song that I didn’t like was penetration. I’m not sure if my knowledge of how creepy and depraved Iggy pop can be ruined my enjoyment of that song, but I will say it’s legitimately the only skip on the album for me. Iconic album cover, insanely good energy on the album. I just sorta got put off by the one track and it made me remember that Iggy as a person is an annoying sex pest. Seriously though this is probably one of the most important albums of all time when it comes to influencing punk and unground music for generations.

Lives up to its name

choosing to blame my dislike of this from when i first listened a while ago on hearing the wrong mix. because like. that's gotta be the explanation right? this is pretty great! it's what Jack White thinks his music is. sounds like a bunch of maniacs. deserves to be one of the 1001? yah but i wouldn't be upset if you cut it and just left Fun House on

FUCK YEAH!

harder

Iggys udgave: 4 stjerner Bowies udgave: 3 stjerner Samlet: 3.5

Enjoyed the raw emotion and heavy guitar

I've heard some songs from it before and knew I like them but wow listening to the whole album was so crazy? Something clicked really hard in my brain. This is such an amazing album. I knew Stooges made bangers but wow 4/5

Awesome rock music

fav songs: your pretty face is going to hell raw power shake appeal raw, influential, visceral 70/100

An absolute stunner out of the gate. Ironically, by the end it suffers from precisely the kind of bloated self-indulgence that we all worshipped the Ramones for deflating. But when it comes into focus, it’s stunning; literally as well as figuratively.

Pretty solid rock/proto-punk. Can't say I'll remember much about it, but I also can't really fault it for anything. Good album.

Lo disfruté mucho. No sé si lo volvería a escuchar recurrentemente, pero es un muy buen álbum. Por alguna razón Iggy Pop me hotea mucho.

lekkaaaah

Um pouco mais meu estilo, a cultura punk é muito interessante.

Listened to both the Bowie and Iggy mixes for posterity, even though i've listened to this album multiple times before. Iggy's mix is just categorically worse. I wrote an essay on the Loudness War back in uni and this was one of the albums I used - Iggy just sat on the mixing desk until it was 10 on every dial. Bowie's version has it's faults - it doesn't quite ever get the power side of the album, and you can barely hear the bass at any point, but at least it has dynamics that aren't just make it louder. I love this album despite the engineering issues, despite both productions being inadequate, but tell me you don't go for it when Search and Destroy comes on and I'll call you a liar.

4.5, and really close to a 5. I just need to calm down a bit. An extraordinary proto-punk record from the kings. Long live Iggy!

No where as hard as I expected

Nothing that I didn't like. 4.2/5

My first reaction when this got recommended was "Hell Yeah!", but with more listens, the less excited I feel about it. While this is a very fun album, what I'm missing here that was on "Fun House" is its echoic sound that made it feel so big. This project might be as incredibly distorted, even more than "Fun House", depending on the version, but still misses that sensation of being in a concert from hell. Talking about versions, I need to clarify that this review is based on the Iggy's Mix, which is louder and rawer than Bowie's one. So as I was saying, I think this album is not as powerful as "Fun House". It has some really fun guitar riffs, but I don't think they sound as amusing or striking. What I can say about this album is that there is more variety in the sound. Starting with Iggy's voice, in songs like "Search and Destroy" and "Raw Power" he sounds very young, while in "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell", "Penetration" and "Death Trip" his singing becomes incredibly raspy. Even when singing in different styles, his singing always shows a lot of character. In terms of instrumentation, the album does also offer more than than super distorted rock riffs and solos on top. "Gimme Danger" features an acoustic and a piano that add a nice touch, "Penetration" has a cool sounding celesta and "I Need Somebody" has a very bluesy tone. Overall, I think the album is super fun and has a lot of power, despite me not being able to avoid feeling a bit underwhelmed when compared to "Fun House".

And with this, we have reached the final album from Iggy Pop and/or the Stooges for this project! Pretty cool, right? Anyway, this album's cool. At this point, I'd be surprised if it wasn't. Raw Power might be one of the top contenders for the winner of the "Album Name that is Most Accurate to the Album in Question" award. This album sure is raw and powerful. Iggy's showmanship is as strong as ever and the addition of James Williamson on guitar is very welcome in giving these songs a greater melodic strength. Songs like the opening tracks "Search and Destroy" and "Gimme Danger" are made very memorable by the guitar parts. The writing is just as debaucherous as you'd expect. Rather shockingly, the biggest source of controversy among this album actually has nothing to do with the lyrical contents of the songs. No, Raw Power's biggest source of debate is actually in the album mixing, or rather the various mixings that have been released over the years. I am, by no means, a music production expert, so I don't think I can comment that much on the mixing debate, but here's what I will say. I did listen to the Bowie mixing for the full album listen as it's closer to the original album, but I have heard a few of the album's songs through the Iggy mixing, so I can give thoughts on both versions. I think I prefer Bowie's version, but I can see why some might prefer Iggy's version. At the end of the day, regardless of which mixing you listen to, Raw Power is still the same album, and said album is pretty freakin' great. High 4/5.

Seek & Destroy is literally one of the best songs of this era. This album itself is raw, it's early punk, and it's everything it was supposed to be.

really upbeat, and quintessential Iggy/Stooges

It sounded alright, it came out in the early 70’s so I think it must have been a phenomenon in early punk music.

I have no idea why people complain about the production of this album. It's nasty, dirty and filthy, just how I'd expect a proper punk and rock album to sound like. If anything, I wish it'd be even noisier, more similar to Fun House. That's really the only reason why I'm dropping one point from a perfect score.

Great punk, high energy music

It’s super good!!! I feel on the right speakers and the right environment this is a perfect album

Energetic and raw are the only words for this

Badass rock record, would probably never have listened if it didnt pop up here. Almost makes me nostalgic for a time 20 years before I was born. Gritty, unpolished, fun. Favorite Songs: Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, Death Trip

Raw, gritty, dirty, primitive, visceral, raucous, rock. I love this album.

Best first lyric in all of rock and roll. Another record that launched so many more.

I have so many drug fueled memories wrapped up in this album that sometimes I struggle to hear the difference between the good and and not so good parts of this album.

Too front loaded to be a five... And Iggy's mix is great but some guitar leads get buried in the mix which is a shame.

Another punk album! Not super familiar with The Stooges work but enjoyed listening to this album while working on Friday. Raw Power was a stand out for me. Happy listening all!

Like a punch to the face

Una vuelta a las bases donde no hay trucos digitales, solo el sonido crudo, visceral y orgánico de los instrumentos chocando entre sí.

Proto-punk. Evidently one of my favorite genres.

A classic punk inspiring album, with catchy tracks to boot. What's not to like? Iggy gets into the high and low registers, so it's got that charm to go along with the raw energy.

I think this is the best pre punk album ever made. Just so good on so many levels. Search and Destroy is INCREDIBLE. My biggest challenge is the production. I think David Bowie is HANDS DOWN the worst producer of all time, and it's not even close. Just terrible. It's a shame he produced albums for The Stooges, Mott the Hoople, MC5, makes powerful bands sound like they recorded in their mom's basements.

Des musiques très intéressantes, notamment Your pretty face is going to hell et Gimme danger

Hardcore garage rock, they took rockabilly and made it hard. Punk before punk existed. It has some killer rock and rolls songs but the mix is not great and it has a really muddled sound.

Enjoyed it. Was interesting to hear what Iggy used to sound like

This is honestly a very impressive project, it sounds fresh enough to come out today, while punching all the classic punk-stops. The influence here, this being an album from 1973, feels immense when you tie all the pieces together. It's a solid effort on its own, front to back, though I can argue personally that not a lot of the lyrics stick with me, but the details in the composition can be memorable. Maybe after a few more listens I'll readjust my opinion, but the melodic aspect of the vocals wasn't terribly impressive to me. It's got stunning album art, that with the historic significance would make this a potential buy when crate digging. There's nothing to hate on, either. The vocal aggression is perfect for this type of rock, the guitars definitely know what they're doing, and the drums are cementing punk DNA into basically every second of the record. I'd appreciate a song or two that felt like they carried the weight of the project, because it feels like a solid album with no singles. 3.5/5

Iggy! Short and sweet

Never have previously listened to this album. Was quite impressed. It needs a few more extra listens.

Raw and powerful

ABSOLUTE POWERRRRRR

- very 1970s rock/punk, something very different than what I listen to - I didn't know which version to review, the Iggy Mix or the bowie mix, so I just listened to the Iggy version - Favourite songs would probably be Gimme danger and Search and destroy - sounds like ive been transported to the 1970s and im a junior/senior in high school listening to this album on a car radio with my friends - not something I would listen to daily, but definitely something that I wouldn't mind listening to if it come on my playlist! - 4/5

not bad. overall a 3.6

This album is very ronchy.amost fells like a old horror movie.

A great album from the Stooges. It’s a classic for a reason. Iggy Pop is great in this.

Just sheer & utter filth. Just Filthy. I love it!

A glorious noise - tight and dirty. Fundamental. Favourite tracks: Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger (fuck yeah)

temores la verdad muy buen album que suena bastante contemporáneo para ser del 73

Raw, fun and powerful

Seems like a bit of a power move to put yourself on the album cover, shirtless, for a group act.

8.5/10

Buen disco con algunos temas míticos

It's objectively a mess, but it's rad so I don't care.

Tough as fuck!!!

- A banger but I can't go over a 4 because both mixes suck and, dispute it if you like, that DOES take away from what otherwise would be a perfect album. Calling it Punk doesn't excuse bad decision making or presentation. It's a hill I'll die on. -

I liked this a lot more than the Iggy solo album I had earlier. What a response to hippie culture this must've been. Very raw and powerful.

This album was the start of the punk rock movement and it still absolutely rips 53 years after its release. Iggy Pop will forever be a punk icon.

An influential record that still manages to sound menacing and vibrant 50 years later. Now we're talking. Here's the thing: I still vastly prefer the bands that came after, but this is still listenable. You can hear where this goes in the future, but it's still a self contained thing. Kinda makes me want to take some unidentified pills, punch somebody and get an STD (complimentary).

how fitting that we go from gimme shelter right to gimme danger lmao. this kicks mick jagger's ass

This is what I thought the Rolling Stones would sound like. Love it.

raw power

Excellent proto garage rock. I am not quite sure how I have never listened to this before.

Catchy - thx

Ta guapo

This keeps growing on me. On first listen, I was like this is good, but also nothing groundbreaking. Which is true listening to it so many years later. But there's actually a lot more texture, even nuance, to the songs, and with ~four listens now, I'm growing to like it a lot.

Badass. Hearing Search and Destroy live a couple years ago was fantastic.

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/iggy-and-the-stooges/raw-power/ Cool stuff. I can usually only take so much of the proto-punk screaming the same line over and over again over increasing noise thing, so it’s good this album 1) has plenty variety still and 2) is not too long.

I just found out how much I love the Stooges a few years ago. I'm not sure how I missed them in my younger years. This album has so much energy. I think 'Fun House' was a stronger album.

scho bitz mit den augen gerollt woni gseh ha dases NOMEL es stooges album het aber ich han gad seeeehr spass a dem. sie sind huuere wild und tight und punky und hässig und relaxed glichzitig. würkli geil.

It's good but I think the wildness of Fun House is more appealing. I could do with a bit more noise. 8/10

Each song has this raw feeling. It’s definitely a good rock/punk album. His rough voice makes a nice addition to the album. The album is also very loud. The name fits the album. Favorite song: Search and Destroy

Gotta love it when an album's title is a perfect match with the album's music. Pure energy bursting at the seams with this one. Good tunes all around.

Notable Textzeile: I move to master my machine And I will not stand in line Sick boy, sick boy, going wrong Memory losing grip Energie, Energie, Energie.

This felt so grimy and disgusting, I loved it. Especially after reading about the live shows where Iggy Pop would cut himself with glass and smear various fluids on himself before crowd-surfing. This does significantly reduce the "would I go to this concert" rating, however.

Iggy version > bowie version

This album is perfectly described by its title alone. Raw Power is loud, aggressive and hands down one of the best punk rock albums ever. 4.8/5

chansons préférées : Gimme Danger, I Need Somebody

I recall purchasing the single of "Give it Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Search and Destroy was the b-side to the single. I never knew it was a cover of a Stooges song. This is essentially a grunge album. I thought that Neil Young was the forbearer of grunge, and I think he probably is in some aspects, but Raw Power is very obviously influential in the sound many of the bands considered "grunge." I think I enjoyed Iggy Pop's solo work a bit more than this one. At least, I enjoyed Lust for Life more than Raw Power. Otherwise, this is a fun album because it feels like a forebearer to so much of the grunge/garage rock sound that was popularized later in the 1970's and the early 90's. Raw Power sounded almost exactly like what I had anticipated a Stooges album would sound like. My favorite tracks: Search and Destroy Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell Raw Power Death Trip

Somehow the Stooges and Iggy didn't make it onto my radar in my teenage years. Listening to them in retrospect I can feel the that basic rock n roll groove. Their guitarist sounds very good and of course Iggy is a great frontman. Way before their time and influential on that mid-late 70s punk rock scene in New York and London.

Very good and early punk stuff. The Stooges were so extremely ahead of their time and this album has nothing but great stuff

I think that I like the Iggy version better than the Bowie mix Best Song: Search and Destroy Rating: 7.0/10 Stars: 4

Generally a huge fan of Iggy and the Stooges but I prefer the earlier albums.

Personal Fav, love the outlandish performance of Iggy. hedonism, sadism pulse through the veins of this album in a way that sonically if not spiritually keeps this album perennially fresh

Hugely influential and ahead of its time

At first, I thought this sounded like a bunch of high school boys and their band practicing in a garage, but I came around and ended up really liking this album. Solid rock and roll! No standout songs on this album, but I enjoyed it throughout. (4)

This album was a lot of fun

Een aangename kennismaking met de jonge Iggy Pop

Really like this album. I love Iggy's version of punk, but this album goes even beyond that.

Pretty excellent punk album, great energy

This is #day572 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… yet another artist is getting ticked off today as this is my third and my final record by the Stooges. As the title suggests, it's raw, powerful, and uncompromising. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day573.

Muy bueno

Good rock - short but sweet, fairly samey though. Quite like the colouring of the cover. Specific rating - 3.9 Fav song- search and destroy Least fav- your pretty face is going to hell

Title says it all!

Man, Iggy Pop really fell off in the late 70s. This is so much better than Lust for Life. Fun fact, it was also Kurt Cobain's favorite album. I can certainly say I see where he's coming from, even if I wouldn't call it my favorite. When he's making punk-before-punk and not singing about 16-year-old girls, Iggy Pop is a pretty fun songwriter. It's pretty hardcore for the early 70s and it's pretty easy to hear how this album influenced damn-near everybody in the 80s and 90s.

La cabra haciendo lo que la cabra mejor sabe hacer. No trates de entenderlo, disfrutalo. Increíblemente me gusta más el mix de Iggy de los 90s que el que salió de Bowie 20 años antes. De un modo u otro, obra maestra. 8/10

Really really fun album. I feel like I can hear bits and pieces of newer types of rock and metal in their songs. Some songs drag a bit, other songs hit like a lighting strike. Everything is so fun to listen to.

i liked gimme danger and overall enjoyed the vibes

Awesome! Super raw, gritty punk rock

I liked it, sounded really nice.

Loud and filthy, it feels like the studio is about to explode. Iggy sounds possessed and unhinged. Undeniable energy and attitude, I really enjoyed this. Best song: Search And Destroy Worst song: Shake Appeal Cover check: Creepy Iggy

Not much to say about this except I really enjoyed it and want to listen again.

Apparently I just don’t care for punk adjacent stuff UNLESS it’s from Michigan, then I reeeaally fuck with it. Not as consistently as the white stripes or Mc5, but I might just need to relisten.

An unexpected good album

This album is full of punk goodness. I can hear this bands influence on many bands and punk as a whole. Iggy is a legend and this album is shining moment for him.

I listened to the Bowie mix and was blown away by the album. The guitars are very good, heavy and intense with a definite punk sound. Layer on Iggy's voice and you have a genre setting punk rock sound. Great album

This album is probably the best Stooges/Iggy Pop album, but I dunno, I might not be the biggest Iggy Pop fan. It's a fun album but nothing really reached out and grabbed me, y'know? Still good though.

Powerhouses of punk, rock and pop. Raw indeed.

The first half of this album fucking rocks - prefer Iggys mix to Bowies

Search and destroy - 5 Gimme danger - 4 Your pretty face is going to hell - 3 Penetration - 4 Raw power - 4 I need somebody - 4 Snake appeal - 3 Death trip - 3

7/10 Weirdly mixed? I'm no expert, but the edge of the guitars seems to be pushed back, whereas I'd like them to be folront and central. But some good songs

I relate because I too am a street walkin' cheetah with a heart full of napalm.

Loved it

So I clearly listened to the Bowie Mix. Awful. The Iggy mix is wildly better. Great sound and raw energy.

Enjoyed this one, never listened to it straight through

Great songs on this record. But beyond the 3-5 legendary songs, the rest is mostly filler.

7/10 Favorite: Search and Destroy

Ferocious music loaded with rebel energy. Simultaneously shocks and entertains. I added “I Need Somebody”, which is nice and bluesy, to my Generator playlist.

This is the first time I've ever heard a full LP from the Stooges OR Iggy Pop, so you could say the stakes were high – if I hated Raw Power, I'd likely be dreading listening to the next four Book Albums that Pop worked on. Fortunately, I found Raw Power to be a pretty good one! I love the punk energy on show here – it comes through both the vocals and the instrumentals exceptionally well. Most of the songs ended up being highlights for me and even the ones that weren't had something to offer (usually in the form of some impressive guitar work). Pop has some really memorable vocal inflections on this album as well, like when he says "JUST LIKE YEWWWR" on "I Need Somebody" or (what sounds like) "SHAG A BEATLE" on "Shake Appeal" – it's all pretty amusing and certainly adds to the LP's memorability! I'll also note that I enjoyed Raw Power enough to listen to both the Iggy and Bowie mixes of the album. I definitely preferred the Iggy version (which also seems to be the opinion of the general public these days), but I appreciated that both versions were readily available to stream! It'd be cool if more artists released alternative versions of their albums mixed by different engineers for different sets of ears. Highlights: Search and Destroy, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell, Penetration, Raw Power, I Need Somebody, Death Trip

My second Stooges album, I definitely liked this a lot more than their self-titled one. And it's this album where I hear a lot more clearly of their heavy influence on punk. Like the title track sounds like something the Clash would probably do. It seems to me that the Stooges first three records are like the equivalent of Black Sabbath's first three, in which they are insanely ahead of the curve and are blueprints to the entire respective genre. Iggy's vocals on this one are way less erratic compared to their debut, and are more melodic than I'd think they'd ever be. The trademarked sloppy guitar work returns, and is even better than their debut. Have I said this is better than their debut album yet? Honestly solid album, and can see why punks worshipped and will worship the Stooges. Highlight Song/s: "Search and Destroy" and "Raw Power"

The stooges lit the touch paper

really enjoyed this album

This is the kind of album I'm looking for with this list. Historic, dirty, heavy riffs, groundbreaking. Raw Power indeed. One of the rawest.

A proto punk classic! I really appreciate Iggy's energy and vibe. My taste runs more toward a bit more refinement. But this was really fun!

Great Little Rock album

Apt title for this protopunk milestone album. Full of primal energy. 4

Vocals:8/10 Lyrics:7/10 Instruments: 9/10 Listen again: 8/10 Overall" 9/10

Filthy.. Makes me want to kick a trash can.

Not listened to much of The Stooges but I liked this a lot!

When they called this Raw Power, they weren't joking. Not sure which mix was on the original release, but I think I go with Iggy.

i love izzy’s mix

Heard Before? Once or twice, many years ago. Notes: - Pleasantly surprised at the variety here, as I incorrectly remembered everything sounding like the opener. - Even Iggy stretches himself in an array of vocal styles. - "Penetration" is a real creepshow. - For me, the muddy production blunts the impact. Verdict: Shirts are for losers, makeup is for the bold. Listen Again? Unlikely, but you never know.

Rating: 8/10 As a piece of rock history, I have to say this album is just really good. As far as the 2023 remasters go, Iggy mix is actually superior I think because it brings the raw punk sound a lot better. Vulgar, sexual, and rebellious lyrics present with all these early hard rock bands would be a lot cooler if it wasn’t for the fact that they were definitely all doing horrible shit during drug benders with underage groupies. Well, as far as a piece of music goes it’s really quite good and influential.

It's a raw display of a legendary album, with punk and rock elements that transcend time. Awesome to listen to, it's paced well and will keep it in rotation.

Raw-dirty-protopunk-rocknroll. Though I did think it went a bit Stones there for a bit.

Listened to both mixes. Traditionalists be damned. The Iggy 1997 mix is so much better. Sorry Bowie. Kicks ass and is short. Shame The Stooges were such a mess. Search and Destroy will always be sick.

Jaaaa, det var väl bra och så och nice vibe men lite WEIRD saker. Dock så är väl musik så (men Fyfan vad cringe det här blev)

Nasty, loud, and unsparing, and that’s just the production. Iggy went into a studio with David Bowie, revisited the mix later and managed to put out the ur-punk album, even when the Stooges had already approximated it in 1969 and 1970. A lot of bands try to claim the mantle of proto-punk but The Stooges really did it. The results are messy, the sound is terrible and Bowie’s mix is way to treble forward to capture the beat. But by god there’s some all timers here. Great record but flawed as hell.

January 16

Raw Power was pretty awesome album! It’s literally in the name, it’s pure raw power. Early punk, rock & roll and elements of blues wrap up into one. Iggy Pop has a presence even on record, great album!

The Bowie mix is too clean and trebly. The Iggy mix is messy, but feels more like what the band was going for.

3.6 Loved the stooges as a teenager, but always felt this was the weakest of the three. Listening back I think I was correct. It starts pretty strong but soon runs out of steam. I think what really doesn't help it is the mixing. The CD as I remember it appears to be the Bowie mix. There's now the Iggy mix on Spotify, which feels bassier yet somehow sounds even worse. I think with a perfect mix this could be rated a lot higher. As it is it sounds a bit underwater. Disappointing.

Loved the beginning- got a little bit too intense for me at the end but still loved it

Blind album and artist. Interesting gritty tone and style that I like but can't compare to some other bands. This is like a blend between punk, garage, and glam. I hear how David Bowie helped produce this.

Great album, raw power is correct!

Yeah, this one slapped.

186/1001 The Stooges - Raw Power Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ One of my favourites from Iggy Pop and his output. I always wonder how mad a gig of theirs would have been at the time. Brilliant stuff.

4/5. One of those albums where I’m just impressed that it released when it did. you can hear the blue-prints of a ton of punk and hard rock music that would rise with the late 70’s and 80’s here. perhaps it is a bit primitive, and with two separate mixes of the album on streaming it can be a bit confusing to get into, but definitely a good listen. (I listened to the Iggy Mix.)

Good raw punk. I wasn't aware this had a billion different mixes, but judging from one song (raw power), I prefer Iggy's mix to Bowie's.

Love Iggy, love The Stooges. They sound more like my platonic ideal of punk than the Ramones or the Sex Pistols. "Search and Destroy" is one of my go-to tracks from them but I've listened to this album less than the first two. I love how much of The Doors I hear in it plus James Williamson's guitar. Always leaves me happy and energized. Why not give it five stars? It's honestly just because I feel self-conscious of how many fives I've given out so far! We'll see how that holds up as the project proceeds.

they punk rocked out before punk rocking out was a thing

Quite literally does what it says on the tin

Solid punk album

Great album, probably my favourite Stooges.

Not the most chaotic Stooges album, but definitely the loudest, provided you're listening to Iggy's superior mix. There's a real classic rock feel to this given some of the riffs - especially the one on the title track - and choices like the slower, crooning "I Need Somebody." But at the same time one of the guitars is just doing whatever the hell it wants, providing a noisy, always invigorating sound. "Search and Destroy" is of course a classic, but I may prefer "Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell" because of how off-the-rails it is. The slower tracks like "I Need Somebody" and "Penetration" provide a nice respite from the noise, and the album being only 33 minutes long helps as the sound is a bit played out by the end. Still, this is a really fun album that sounds better and more exciting than much of the punk it inspired.

Great album, every song is engaging. Proto punk energy fueled by Iggy Pop’s vocal delivery. Great raunchy guitar tones. Favorite tracks are Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, Raw Power.

It is one of Rock’s great paradoxes: an album can be historically "perfect" and ticking all your favourite boxes, yet still fail to truly "click." This friction is what I feel listening to "Raw Power". It is a record that should, by all logic, be right up my Strasse, yet it remains an object of curiosity rather than obsession. For many, "Raw Power" is the Big Bang of punk rock, and I can hear that to some extent. Despite the band's legendary status, there is a certain something about Iggy and the Stooges that doesn't always translate into an immediate desire to listen to their discography. That said, "Raw Power" is a very good album, but not one I am going to reach for on many occasions beyond this exercise. There are two mixes of the album: 1. The 1973 David Bowie Mix: Brash, thin, and dominated by treble. 2. The 1997 Iggy Pop Mix: A bit easier on the ear and fuller in the low end, but arguably less impactful because it loses some of that original, jagged edge. Ultimately, neither mix provides the "magic key" to unlock the album for me. The Bowie mix is the punkier of the two! I have to mention the cover art - Mick Rock’s stunning photograph is so definitive that the absence of a band name or an album title only adds to its impact. I respect "Raw Power" and consider it a very good album, but I don't quite love it. I recognize its importance, individual tracks like "Search and Destroy" are undeniably influential, and I enjoy the listen, yet the tracks don't hit home enough to make it an essential part of my regular listening or even my collection. For me, it remains a four-star record that I admire from a distance. Side one 1 "Search and Destroy" (4/5) 2 "Gimme Danger" (4/5) 3 "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell" (3/5) 4 "Penetration" (4/5) Side two 5 "Raw Power" (4/5) 6 "I Need Somebody" (4/5) 7 "Shake Appeal" (3/5) 8 "Death Trip" (3/5) Total - 29 Average - 3.63 195/1001 109/195 albums reviewed were new to me.
