Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Waaay too country. Good voice, but sometimes tries to imitate Bob Dylan.

It is a good album. The reason for my low rating is simply that it is not at all my style. I found that the topic of songs was heavily concentrated around family, which was nice, but also infidelity. I understand that it may be her way of navigating through these complex feelings; however, the way it was sung about did not leave me very comfortable. Otherwise, her voice is beautiful, songs are lyrical, but also quite similar to one another, which I think was another reason that prevented me from loving the album to its entirety.

Fine but not my type. 2/5

Not bad for a country album, Travelling Man made me chuckle.

sorry dolly

I listened to the album 2 minutes ago and I couldn’t tell you how any of these songs go. 5/10

I'm not a fan of country music, but it was okay. There was something about her voice that was bothering me throughout the album that I couldn't figure out. It might have been her microphone, the way it was mixed, or maybe it was just clipping (she was kinda shouting). But there was something about her voice that wasn't meshing well with the instruments. I'm just glad it's short. High 2.

Sorry, Dolly. I love you so much but did not love this album.

Was hoping for better. Some decent songwriting, but most of the subject matter wasn’t that appealing. Plus, I generally don’t think of her voice being that warbly.

It’s fine

Respect to Dolly but this hit far too many religious themes.

A 2.5, some good country, some stereotypical boring country. Would listen again.

Great voice, very talented. One decent song on the album. Will not be going into my collection.

216/1001

Classic old style country fare... if you like that stuff

un country un pò lento..

Country das antigas. Legalzinho

Not my jam

Lovely album. Not for me. Other than the title track, nothing stood out.

Country is so polarising for me, and unfortunately this ended up on the wrong side of it. Not feeling this at all. It sounds like any other country music I've heard.

Just not feeling it. I enjoy oldie time C&W butt for some reason she is just grinding on me... .

I understand and accept that Dolly Parton is a wonderful example of a human being. Thoroughly decent, deeps her private life private and is an exemplar in her chosen art. Unfortunately, her chosen art is country music, which I really can't stand. The less egregiously country tracks (Here I am and a better place to live, notably) are sufficiently free of steel guitars, slide guitars and jew's harps that I can actually listen to them without pangs of genuine discomfort, and in these tracks I can see that Parton has an earnest, pure and powerful voice that would do so much better in literally any other kind of music. Star added for Dolly being wonderful.

Not really my bag, enjoyed Traveling Man but the rest didn’t grab me

Never heard this before. I was hoping for something much better. I'm not a fan of the production choices. I've got issues with the mix throughout, and the arrangements don't maximize the impact of the songs. In particular, Dolly's voice doesn't sound that great. She just doesn't sound up to the level of the great female C&W singers that came before her like Loretta Lynn. There's a lot of better traditional country albums out there. Not sure why this one was included in this list.

Nothing for me. I know Dolly and a few of her songs but none on this album.

Really showcases her voice. Not my typical style but may be a couple I go back and listen to.

I was hoping this would be a “slay” from Queen Dolly but it’s a nay for me 😭 My fave is “ she never met a man “ because it’s a cutthroat diss track far ahead of its time for 1971

Ur-country. Mysigt? Javisst! Kul och spännande? Nej. Lite för kristet och sockersött. Som hur vacker kärlek beskrivs som "a butterfly that has a million colors" i 'The Way I See You'. Ibland fantastiskt historieberättande, i 'Traveling Man' och huvudattraktionen 'Coat of Many Colors'. Bästa låt: Traveling Man.

It was alright, not really my style of music

Too bland and country

I listened to this in the background. Maybe that's why it didn't keep my attention. I have not listened to a lot of Dolly Parton but I am aware of her contributions to country music.

I'm not a big country person, but that said, this album had some highlights. It helps that it's short, so I can quickly move on from the stuff I really don't like.

Coat of Many Colours

Always found country hard to enjoy, and this is no exception. Dolly's voice is quite annoying, but it has a couple of cute songs.

These are not my words. They are a review from another person from 2021. However, they perfectly describe how I feel about this album, and Dolly's music overall. "Full disclosure: I've never much cared for Dolly Parton's voice. I don't care for the way she uses vibrato and her voice is so sharp it could cut through steel. Which is not to say that she's a bad singer--her interpretative skills and phrasing are better than most and her pitch is dead on. It's really just a matter of personal preference, purely subjective. On Coat of Many Colors, while there is a fair amount of variety within the rubric of mainstream country (ballads, country-rock, etc.) it's all very generic, if well played but what I would guess are a bunch of Nashville studio cats. The melodies are nothing special either. The one area that Parton excels in is narrative songwriting. The opening two tracks, Coat of Many Colors and Traveling Man, are superb--I'd stack them up against the best of the giants of country music, like Hank Williams Sr., Lefty Frizzell, etc. Seemingly without effort, Dolly manages to cram in character writing, narrative, local color, comedy, and earned sentiment into three minutes or less! That's a rare talent and a golden ticket in popular music. Unfortunately, not all of the other songs she pens on the album are as magnificent. There's a nice ode to meeting God in the wonders of nature (Early Morning Breeze), but the rest of her lyrics could have come from a dozen other artists. To sum up, the terrific lyrics of the opening two songs overcome the bland music (although admittedly it might have sounded fresher back in 1971) and Dolly's voice (YMMV), but the rest of the album pretty much goes in one ear and out the other, not leaving much of a trace. Pleasant enough, but really slight."

Entirely underwhelming throughout. Would never play again, though nothing too offensive.

Coat Of Many Colors

Not a fan

Ni si ni no

Ok..but not really my genre

I found a positive… great bass playing on so many tracks really stood out for me, but not enough to distract me from the rest of it. I guess it’s as good an example as you’ll find from an absolutely terrible genre. 2 stars for that.

I know that Dolly Parton is a global superstar and an American national treasure but American country music is not my thing at all. Which is odd because I do like English folk music. Probably because I’m English dohh! I don’t mind Bob Dylan’s early stuff which is if I’m not mistaken is American folk music. Is there a difference between country and folk music? I must find out. A bit later…… “ Folk songs use acoustic instruments. They often rely on found instruments to establish a beat. These might include sticks, spoons, washboards, food stamps, handclaps, and finger snaps. Additionally, folk songs change from generation to generation largely because they were passed on orally. Other key sounds of note: Folk songs have several verses with an easy-to-remember chorus sung between each. Aptly, folk songs were written for the common folk. Country music may have a story to tell but it is less likely to be a protest. Country music often consists of ballads and Texas two-step and line-dance tunes. The harmony is simple and the sounds often include banjos, electric guitars, steel guitars, acoustic guitars, fiddles, dobros and even harmonicas and Irish whistles. Tunes can range from haunting to sprightly” There we are then. But wait! The article I copied mentioned Taylor Swift and I’ve recently began to listen and like her. But I still don’t like Dolly as wonderful she is. 2/5 8/7/24

Appreciate Dolly Parton, but not even she's gonna make me enjoy country music.

Not for me.

I’m good on this. No more!

meh. country

I didn't mind this. Country is not my things but I could appreciate this album. Unlikely to listen again but I do get Dolly.

Am I the only one thinking those lyrics are so sad?

I am not a fan of country music at all, even though it seems to be the thing for 2024. That said this album was an easy and nice listen with some good songs on it. the songs are country with a hint of pop, fun and engaging. I doubt ill listen to it again but I enjoyed. Favourite song: Travelling man and the way I see you. Least favourite: There is not a bad song on the album. Album artwork: Not one to hang up on the wall at home

I'm not a huge fan of country music. That probably explains why I don't like this album. I can understand why people think it's good, but personally I don't get it.

joa, ganz nett

I'm not too familiar with Dolly Parton's oeuvre as we say but Nashville is my favorite movie of all time and I actually listen to its soundtrack as if those were "real" songs, meaning I actually enjoy the inanity of lines like "we must be doing something right to last 200 years." So when the title song to this album started I immediately turned to the track list of Nashville to figure out which song was imitating this one, and then as her album progressed and as I kept looking at the Nashville listing, I realized how beautifully they align. I'm listening to The Mystery of the Mystery right now, and well, I think the title speaks for itself. Honestly, I think Nashville's better because it's got two bonus tracks: It don't worry me and I'm easy. I'm sure Dolly has great songs and albums but I don't think this is one of them. Early Morning Breeze is the only standout (which aligns with Bluebird on Nashville, fyi). Tell me that A Better Place to Live is not Keep a-Going.

I like Dolly as a person and celeb, but not much of a fan of her music.

Not really for me

Another country album...

The lyrics to me are a bit cheesy and over the top. Unfortunately, I don't see the beauty but the attempt to give them meaning and weight by painting bigger pictures or asking philosophical questions without looking for answers. Regarding love and her relationship with men, she shows vulnerability and fears of losing someone. While these feelings are universally relatable, I'm still not fond of the execution. It feels like she doesn't see her worth and needs to persuade her crush or lover that she'd be the superior or less flawed choice compared to someone else. I wish she would reveal a more confident side of herself as well. Other than that she has a nice voice and the album is well-produced. I don't really dig the music though.

Passed me by, nice enough. Dolly is great but this isn't really my thing.

Plussat: Dolly on ihana Miinukset: kantri on kamalaa

Great the 2 things I despise the most in a single song. Country and religious brainwashing. And here I sat thinking I hated Bob Dylan. As much as I dislike country music and aleluya god is strong and helps me lyrics, I will let that slide with Dolly Parton cause in a world full of trumptards be a Dolly and make this shitty world a better place and help as many as you can. My respect for Dolly as a human being is far greater than my dislike for her genere. I find her voice to be beautiful and soothing and kind of mesmerizing at the same time. She sound like southern comfort and it helped me go through most of the album. I just dont like country music overall

Dolly is lovely, and she has a great voice. But I really don't like this type of Country music, so on balance it's a 2

1971 country music.

Great voice. Just not my thing. Every song sounds the same.

Dolly is cool. However, listening to the entire album, that voice does irritate.

Some good songs

song rating: -coat of many colors 5/10 -travelling man 8/10 -my blue tears 3/10 notes: whole song was plop end was a lil better -If I lose my mind 2/10 notes: so fucking boring could use electric guitar -the mystery of the mystery 4/10 notes: every song sounds like the last in a bad way chorus was pretty chill tho -she never met a man 3/10 notes: I fucking hate dolly Parton #certifiedDollyPartonHater -early morning breeze 8/10 notes: instrumental fucking awesome dude -The way I see you 4/10 notes:below average -here I am 8/10 notes: pretty good could use a carti feature and for whitearmour to produce it tho -A Better Place To Live 3/10 notes: slop af album genuinely better without this Overall: 4/10 Dolly Parton should never drop again

dont like her voice so -4 from all ratings for a comparitive rating. rating on a scale from 1-10 for a COUNTRY song (kanye would solo all dolly's songs bru) skipped the first half of the album 2. Travelling Man - best song on album, groovy fast paced good 9.3/10 7. early morning breeze is kinda fire when the climax blows everywhere, "morning breeze" lyric go hard - 5.9/10 8. The way I see you - instrumentation is scrummy 7.1/10 9. Here I Am - drake snake would go hard for a verse here 6/10 10. A Better Place To Live - this is the song i imagine the normal 9-5 worker would sing while driving in their deisel-guzzling car in the 70's. Overall kinda slop its like dua lipa but for 60's bitches. Only redeemable part is the groovy ass guitar and instrumentals. 3/10 final rating.

Cornball Americana.

Not bad. I am not a country fan but I like this better than rap and some of the other albums I’ve heard. I will give this 2.5 stars.

Lala-Musik.

I am not a Nashville "pick up truck and a dog" fan. To me this is cookie cutter bland Nashville. Lots of mountain nostalgia. There is some good pedal steel buried in there.

never much of a fan to be honest.

Dolly is a legend. She has a beautiful country voice. But almost every song sounds just the same. And I’ve never heard someone sing about their momma so much. Just not my style / thing.

She’s fantastic. And these songs are probably awesome one at a time. But as an album, rough. But talent!

Okay, no bangers and not my kind of country but enjoyable

Okay country

Huge respect for the icon, but this is really not my vibe.

Dolly Parton, what else can I say? Not my kind of music

Expected this one to be more upbeat, but it didn't capture my attention like I thought it would - maybe because I was doing things while it was on, but it didn't make me want to stop and listen.

Quite boring, all just blends into a hillbilly jingle jangle!

Not a country fan but not a bad album. 2

seeing how much good dolly parton has done for the world, and hearing just how good she is at singing, i feel that i want to enjoy her music more but i am just bored. the emotional lyrics don't affect me at all, but at least i can smile at the comedy lyrics.

6/10 not really my cup of tea because i’m generally not into the genre. but it was definitely not utterly terrible or unlistenable and that’s for sure. + i know this is dolly’s thing or whatever haha but i don’t particularly enjoy her vocals/singing style and all that. it’s just personal taste and again if i liked the genre i would most certainly enjoy this record better but i wouldn’t say it’s excessively bad either, that’s what i’m trying to say.

Not a fan of this kind of country music

only the first song was okay, everything else is a very basic country song

Well, it’s country with a noisy voice. 2 stars

As an entertainer, I like Dolly Parton. This album - not a fan.

Favorite Song: Coat of Many Colors Album Notes: I'm just not a huge fan of her voice. The melodies are good, but this isn't my favorite.

Never would have listened to this album outside this project, but I'm glad I gave it a listen. The guitar instrumentation is great, my favorite part. Dolly's distinctive vobrato is grating on me.

- Okay wow this is insane they gave us this after her halftime show - 10 songs 27 minutes is the perfect album length - Sorry Dolly did not vibe with this too hard - Traveling Man was good but the rest was eh - 2.5

Not bad but not for me.

Country music just isn't for me, I tried it in its modern take, and it just sucks with its lyrics about trucks and beer. Dolly Parton, however, is a treasure of a human and her voice is lovely. It's a 2* for me. Lyrics a little saccharine at times. Song highlights: Coat of Many Colors

I HATTTTTTTEEEEE WITH A STRONG PASSION COUNTRY MUSIC: This is the biggest bullshit of an albumj bc Dolly Parton doesn't produce anything notable other than like three songs. It's all just drivel which I have no clue why anyone has any interest in listening. BAD.

It's nothing wrong with Dolly, I just have a strong aversion to country.

No thanks

This rating is purely based on personal preference. For what it is, it's good, but it's not my jam.

Early Morning Breeze is a beautiful song. It was nice to hear a Dolly album, but I am not inspired to look further and I don't see myself returning.

Jolene is an absolute banger but no other songs caught my ear.

This is probably a 5-star if you're into country. Nice to hear some Dolly that isn't 9-5 or Joline and there were a couple tracks I somewhat enjoyed, but over all it's just not for me.

Sorry, I found this very boring. Simply not my kind of music, I guess.

The lyrics are interesting but whatever lyrics don't matter anyway. I guess this sorta country isn't really my thing for now. Country Roads is kinda nice but 30 minutes of it... not so much.

Not my cup of tea, but Dolly's voice is truly great. "Here I am" is a good song. 2/5 Would not listen again.

Not a fan of Dolly. 2/5

Definitely not my vibe

This is way to American for me, sorry…

no strong feelings.dollys fine but not for me.

eh country, the trad kind, not feeling it

Great voice, crap tunes

not my kind of thing

Due respect and admiration but I wouldn't listen to this storytelling album by choice... Although I can appreciate its significance.

Dolly Parton is an excellent individual, surely being one of the most likeable still-living celebrities, but at the end of the day her music is still my least favorite major genre of country. There are some things here that are interesting to listen to, from her mom stealing her boyfriend from under her nose to a good ol' cucking (who the fuck makes a song about cucking?), but the music is so repetitive and boring that I hardly want to listen to it. It isn't offensive musically as a lot of country tunes are nowadays, but it still isn't that great or anything.

I understand that it an amazing album, pero no es la música que me gusta

Not even going to listen to this. Hate Dolly Parton. 4/10.

Love Dolly Parton as a person, but her music is kinda bland.

I highly respect Dolly Parton for her humanitarianism and she seems like an outstanding person. But, this didn’t work for me. To country for this rocker.

I'm all for Dolly outside of music. She sounds awesome. This album ain't it tho. Not for me thanks.

Eh. The title track was definitely my favorite. Thought her vocal performance was great throughout, but ended up pretty bored by the end, even though it’s less than 30 minutes.

Her vocals are great, but the lyrics don't rhyme and she just rambles about God a lot.

kill kill kill

Dolly is an iconic figure, and much loved in her genre. But that's where it stops for me. It s nice record, typical Dolly, beautifully sung simple country tunes.

A beautiful voice (I mean obviously, it's Dolly Parton) but it just unfortunately isn't my style or anything I enjoy. Though I do see the appeal and why she is so beloved. It just isn't for me

Extremely average country album imo

2/5 - good album, lack of spark/fire of sole sort

I respect dolly as both a musician and a person but country is not my jam. A few nice instrumentals but other than that nothing here for me.

Ugh, this is the sort of country music that encourages the perception that country music is all melancholy and emo. Not Dolly's best work.

lacking in jolene or 9 to 5. still pretty good for the genre

Not my piece of cake

Not bad, but not my thing. I started to really get into this era of country 5 or 6 years ago. Most of it isn’t interesting to me now. Give me Willie, Merle and Glen. Leave the rest. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding

Meh. I still don't like country

Second time I listened to this now. Don’t really think it got much better for me. Not really my thing.

Ugh, we have a small dilemma in here. Dolly Parton is truly a wonderful human being. She is one of the few celebrities, that actually has some kind of code of honour, but also is using her influence to make a lot of good things. Her approach to the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is also very admirable. Unfortunately, if we have to talk about her music, it's not as positive as her private life. Dolly Parton has an amazing voice, but the type of country music she is playing and recording is certainly not for everyone, and especially not for people from different parts of the World than USA. I really dislike country in general, and the more "pure" it is, the worse my reception of it. And Dolly recorded a quintessential country album in the form of "Coat of Many Colors". There was only one song that slightly broke the scheme of out of the mill country music, and it was the track with a little more rock influence in it, I don't recall which one it was, but probably "Traveling Man". I think in general I would give a lowest note possible for the album, but it would be an evil act against Dolly, so just this time, a 2 star rating for non-musical influence.

Fine if you like that kind of thing

Liked #7 Early Morning Breeze

Not the Dolly I know and like 1.6

I like Dolly Parton - but this record is quite tedious. Besides the opener and a couple of other songs i could wait for it to end.

Meh? Kind of all runs together, not a lot variety of key/etc. Vibrato's over the top.

Nice voice and nice sonorities. I think I like the country vibe, but I have to admit that the album is a bit on the slower side and I think that in chill context it would be a better fit. Anyway nothing bad here but nothing stunning either !

I’m not really a country person. I think the appeal of these songs are in the lyrics, and I’m not a lyrics person either, so not much here for me.

I like the songwriting on this one it gets kinda funny at times. As with all albums where I only praise the songwriting this one gets a 2

Your ma this your ma that.

Even at 27 minutes long, this was too long for me. I like bluegrass but I am unable to appreciate country.

Generic country music. Not to long

Meni aika huomaamatta läpi. Ei jäänyt mieleen eikä oikeastaan kiinnosta edes ottaa toista kierrosta.

Dollyn kantria kuuntelee jo huomattavasti mieluummin, mut aika basic settiä siitä huolimatta

I usually like country but this wasn’t really clicking with me for some reason. A lot of the songs were a bit too short for my taste and nothing stuck out to me in the songs. A lot of the tracks ended up blending together to me and there weren’t a lot of interesting moments instrumentally for me. A lot of the songs are also a bit too slow for my taste. Overall pretty boring in my honest opinion. I don’t really have much else to say. Coat of Many Colors, Traveling Man, Early Morning Breeze, and Here I am are the only tracks that I paid total attention to because I got bored of the other ones quite quickly.

not unpleasant and some solid tunes but not my thing.

I could not be listening to this at a worse time. Because my reaction is “Dolly, you are singing about some bullshit in such a kind southern wink of a way and you know it. Quit couching toxic behavior in blessings. Being poor fucking suck. Damn that coat.”

Not a fan of country, but this was pleasant enough.

The vibrato thing she does kind of freaks me out. I think she's probably a good person, but not much here for me. 2 stars, mostly because of the bassist being funkier than he had any business being on a pop-country album.

As far as country goes it was good. 2/5

I really liked some of the songs but I would never probably listen to this again.

Too old school for my liking

Really not my thing

Best Song: Early Morning Breeze. The deep, strolling bass serves as a nice contrast to Parton's high and floaty voice. Hearing this song, it strikes me that she needed more of this contrast throughout the album. Worst Song: The Mystery of the Mystery. Classically cheeseball religious lyrics that come off as particularly vacuous while trying to seem deep. Overall: Very much not my type of music. The slight warble that she puts on man of her notes is off-putting. Lyrically it is nice, and Dolly Parton seems like a lovely person, but this isn't my style.

She's a wonderful human being but I do not like her voice.

Early Morning Breeze and The Way I See You are kind of nice. But where is Jolene?

Look it's Dolly, who has a good, occasionally poignant voice and an expressive sense of humor. And it's country music, my #1 all-time hate. I couldn't help thinking for much of the album that she'd sound so good singing in a different genre. But then she wouldn't be Dolly.

Fine, a bit twee for me, and I love a bit of country. The tracks Spotify played after the album are more fun.

Not a particular fan of country music but not entirely disinterested in what is clearly an important country album.

Not a terrible album, I’m just not into country music.

For the most part, not a fan of country music. Also not a fan of biblical lyrics. This had both and I didn't listen to the whole album. Probably a classic w/r/t songwriting and just not to my liking.

Traveling Man vitun kova! Todella tiukka bassolinja. Muuten aika perus huttucountrya. 2/5

Meh.

I wasn't entirely sure how to feel when I was assigned this album; I don't like country music, but I like Dolly Parton. I don't know anything about her from a musical standpoint, but she is a saint of a human being, and I she gets royalties from this expedition I took on Spotify for this review. So apparently this album shares the name with a TV drama based on Dolly Parton's life, which lead me to believe that the album would play like a soundtrack of sorts; plotting the highs and lows of the story with slide guitar and banjo and Dolly Parton's gently husky voice. While I perhaps wished for too much, I enjoyed the tracks for a once through listen; the title track was a moving narrative about a mother's love and DIY ethic before it was cool. Waltz-y tracks like She Never Met A Man and is contrasted with more upbeat tracks like Traveling Man (A lot of Men in this album!). It runs the albeit limited gamut of country music's range of dynamics and instrumentation, and while it isn't something I'd listen to ever, it is this writer's opinion that Dolly Parton is as good a place to start as any for anyone delving into country music for the first time. Enjoy my Spotify cents, Ms Parton!

Nice storytelling mostly about her momma (making her coats and her stealing men) as well as a Pre-curser to Jolene. No real standouts.

I think I've had my fill of country recently. It wasn't bad if you like that Dolly Parton story story telling style

Allegro e divertente, ma è sempre country

Ummmmmm……. I mean it’s not bad. But like idk how you can listen to this around other people. This is 100% headphone music not speaker music. I had it playing on my speakers and my roommate looked at me like I was insane.

I bet those boobs have been coated in all sorts of colours over the years

If you like this sort of thing this is probably good. I really don’t.

I admire her but I’m not into her music

Country is not really my style, but Dolly Parton is a legend. This just wasn't what I would go out of my way to listen to.

As much as I want to like this album, because Dolly Parton is objectively great, it's still a country album. It's a country album released in the early 70s. It is great for some folks, but not for me. 2 stars is as much as I can give it.

I find it difficult to get excited about most country music. This album was no exception. meh at best

i dislike country

I dont enjoy country music, went into this knowing I wouldn't enjoy it. However, it's no where near as obnoxious as I thought

// Favs: - Score: Decent 2

Dolly's nice and old but I can't get into this classic country. 4/10.

I have literally 0 expectations going into this album - but the cover is really good regardless of genre, it´s genuinely a good painting! Yeah, upon listening, this genre honestly isn´t for me. I´m sorry, Dolly sang her lungs out, but the genre itself just doesn´t interest me. I wouldn´t mind it in a movie or something, but that´s about it. I won´t revisit this, sorry.

Definitely not my thing. Her voice is pretty annoying, and she goes from preaching a poor bible life to slut shaming pretty quickly. Songs get catchier towards the end of the album, but still not much of a fan

cero mi estilo, muy tranquilas y pues me dio sueño jajaj

sounds like a screeching violin with a horrible attempt at country music in the background

No me gustó, solo la segunda pieza estaba buena

I like Dolly Parton, but I don’t like her voice on this album. It’s Bob Dylan level of annoying.

Really not my vibe

I do not like country bruh

Sorry, but it's just boring to me. Dolly is gonna have to get another 1 star from me. The instrumentation is the only thing keeping me alive while listening to this album.

Damn, not into Country music at all. I feel like this is a very important artist for the genre and time period, but it's just not my style. I was considering between a 1 and 2 Star review because a few songs surprised me, but it's not enough to get it to a 2 star. Sorry if I'm offending a Country fan, just being honest here.

It's nota my tipe of músic

Sappy americana lol, but pleasant

Extremely dull. Didn’t even finish it because it made me so miserable

oh this is NOT for me sorry dolly ily

Country is not fo rme

Esto no es lo tuyo Guari! Sorry por los damnificades

if u like in country side and have farm u would like it wait till i hit my 80s and then show me this, maybe i would like it

Dolly Parton, her voice isn't my thing. Country music isn't my thing. The album isn't my thing. Sorry, I really don't need any more of this.

Feels like Texas roundhouse type of music, lowkey painful

it’s a no from me sorry dolly xxx

Country and me don't get along, sorry Dolly

Hillbilly nonsense

I know she’s like the nicest person ever, but I do not care for Country & Western music. Bailed after 4 songs.

I love and appreciate Dolly as an exemplary human. But country music makes my Black immigrant skin crawl. The bassist on this is 🔥, though.

too country for me. thankful it was only 27 mins

No. Not today. Not ever.

Phew...old, dusty and boring.

Not my jam

Not a big country music fan

Just not doing this...

Southern hell. Even though I love country music, I wouldn't rescue any song from this album. 1.5/5

Yeah nah. Not an album nor genre I consider essential.

Country, 19eme album => 1/5

First two tracks were good but rest of album was a very generic. Highlights: Coat of Many Colors, Runaway Man Unlikely to return.

Forgive my ignorance, but before even listening, I was surprised to read Dolly had done eight studio albums by 1971 - I didn't realise she was so active during the 60s. I've had KD Lang, Sarah Vaughan and now this on the bounce - girl power! As much as this list would like me to, I just can't warm to country music though - at least not at it's most formulaic, as this, sadly, is. Occasional more rock-orientated elements lift some of the tracks - the funky bass work on Early Morning Breeze steals the spotlight right off Dolly, for instance - but more often than not it's pedal steel, predictable stum-along chords and tales of growing up in poverty, running away with travellers and harping on to your "mama" about what a rotten time you've been having. Ultimately, just not a fan of her voice either. There'd better be no effing Kenny Rogers on this list...

I lied guys, maybe I don’t listen to all the genres of music

I don`t like Country-Music!

Very country, very American. Not bad but not for me. Here I am is probably my favourite if I had to pick one.

findi scho schön dasd dolly so freud ah ihrem coat hett nevertheless hani aber nöd so freud ah dem album gha, ckkkköntry isch halt eifach de schlager vo americkkkka und das chani eifach nöd abha leudeeee dolly isch aber no sömpa hani ghört, freu mich scho uf de vickkkkky ihri gschichtsstund (wenn sies schafft, sie isch ebe in paris gsi übers weekend und ezt chrank... ai caramber)

what’s up youtube! welcome to my speedrun attempt of coat of many colors by dolly parton! here we go… and done. oh wow I almost beat the record, but I don‘t want to go through it all over again. bye folks, leave a like, subscribe and smash that like button

not a country fan ;(

1 star

it was hard to listen to this album till the end. The vocal of singer is great but I just don't like how it sounds. It's not my type of music

This is the 5th album I’m rating. I have not heard of this album until now but I’m excited to listen to a full country album for the first time. Coat of Many Colors - Adding to my Playlist. Not the biggest fan of the vocals but it’s good enough. Traveling Man - Not Adding to my Playlist. This had a bad second half. My Blue Tears - Adding to my Playlist. A little better than Coat of Many Colors. If I Lose My Mind - Not Adding to my Playlist. Some pretty cool lyrics but it’s pretty boring. The Mystery of the Mystery - Not Adding to my Playlist. The singing is a bit annoying. She Never Met a Man (She Didn’t Like) - Not Adding to my Playlist. I didn’t like the vocals. Early Morning Breeze - Adding to my Playlist. This song sounds really good and peaceful. Best song so far. The Way I See You - Not Adding to my Playlist. The instrumentals are a bit repetitive and annoying. Here I Am - Adding to my Playlist. Kinda boring but it’s fine. A Better Place to Live - Adding to my Playlist. The opening of this song made me smile. All in all I liked 5/10 of the songs. It was pretty good for my first ever country album and there are no songs that I actually dislike.

Coat of many pains

1/5. Bad. :yawn_emoji:

YIPPEE KI-YAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

awful depressing whine. Not her best work

Lo mejor es que es corto

She’s an icon and an American treasure. I hope I never have to hear this album again.

Twanged out

No words

Sorry Dolly, this doesn't work for me.

There is only one country song: Dead Flowers by Townes Van Zandt. Dead Flowers by Townes Van Zandt covers all the bases of country. Dead Flowers by Townes Van Zandt says everything. Dead Flowers by Townes Van Zandt was, is and will be inevitable. This album is 10 pre-emptive covers of Dead Flowers by Townes Van Zandt.

1. coat - 1.5 2. traveling man - 1 3. blue tearz - 1.5 4. my mind - 1 5. myztery - 0 6. man - 1 7. breeze - 1 8. zee you - 1 9. here i am - 1 10. live - 1

Can't really understand why this is here. Ms Parton is a very talented lady, but this is just ordinary country fare, and quite boring. I'm sure she must have done better. I really want to rate her higher, but not for this piece of work.

The best thing about this album is that is is only 27 minutes long. I still think that it is too long by 1620 seconds. Some things should never exist, like Nashville, it would make a great nuclear test site. I hate everything else about it from the cover artwork to the dreadful songs. Line up all the musicians and their stetson wearing freaky line dancers and shoot them all. The world would be a better place.

Too old

Sorry, aber das ist einfach nicht meins!

es country no puedo perdon

Yeah...no.

Meh. Not a fan.

As much as I admire Dolly Parton as a person, I just don't like country music.

Did not listen

torture

Musste das leider nach drei Liedern skippen

You have to really like Dolly's wobbly voice and steel guitars to get through this one with a smile on your face. Far too American, far too boring, and only trace amounts of musicality. Lovely bass though.

Mal wieder Folk - könnte vermutlich auch ohne überleben.

This is terribly whiny.

Left me in a worse mood than before I started listening

I refuse to even listen to this.

Terrible, congratulations.

Not good

If you like traditional Country and Western then this is for you….. I don’t

I dislike country music, and while I can appreciate the clarity and rhythm of the singing, I wouldn't add this to my streaming library and nor am I likely to play this again. Not to my taste.

i don't like country music

I know it has become extremely popular to adore Parton, and I'm thankful for her investments in mRNA vaccinations, but I just don't like this music.

Way to warbly

Worst thing I’ve heard in ages, why does she basically exclusively sing about her mum.

I just don't like C&W

Classic country, not for me.

I am sorry but I just can’t deal with country music

This is one of those 1-star albums that isn't inherently bad, but it's just not clicking for me, and try as I may, I can't find anything that would earn it a second star. Also, I can't quite explain it, but Dolly's voice sounds weak and fragile here, and not in a good way.
