Reviews (page 8 of 13)

🥱, it's fine elevator/shopping mall music, seriously unexciting but I don't dislike or hate it, so gets a ⭐⭐⭐, and my Mum loves it👍

Some nice songs in there but overall too slow for me. Don’t know why and Come Away With me the highlights.

Very chill album, but not always very fun.

Great, silky sultry voice. Super easy listening.

Another kinda boring with a great voice on it, though there's definitely some cool songwriting moments on here

cute album, amazing voice, a bit cheesy for moments

Fine background music

1st time listen, I think, left me a little underwhelmed, I know.

coffee shop and those early 2000's vibes

Cozy-sounding record with solid songwriting

Listens: 1 Standout Tracks: Not enough time spent listening. I didn't get enough time to listen to to this thoroughly. Nora has a nice voice, but I wasn't familiar with any of the tracks on the album. I've heard her before over the radio, but it must have been from songs are on other albums.

The one word I associated with Norah Jones before listening to this? 'Boring'. Afterwards? Still not my thing but I can appreciate the effort. It was listenable, and the musicianship was nice, and even Come Away With Me (which I associated with easy listening boredom) was quite enjoyable. Best song was I've Got to See You Again, largely because of t more interesting instrumentation and arrangement. Oddly I didn't really like the Painter but I liked how the vocals and guitar mixed in my headphones. Also why has nobody ever seemed to have commented that One Flight Down has clearly stolen from How Deep Is Your Love? Also, I also previously thought she was British.

A bit dynamically flat, Shoot the Moon is quite nice though

Unfortunately, Norah Jones was ruined for me by somebody from my past, but for the sake of this review let's ignore that, yeah? Cool. I challenged myself to listen to the 2.5-hour Super Deluxe Edition, because I'm a masochist, apparently. It was worthwhile, though not something I'd return to on my own accord. I liked a lot of this, though I will admit a lot of the singer-songwriter type of music tends to become background music for me while I work on other tasks; I don't find myself very engaged by it. However, I enjoyed the more jazz-influenced sound this album has more than the folksy projects in that same singer-songwriter realm that I've listened to before during this 1001 adventure. I had some favorites from this album: "Don't Know Why," of course, and "World of Trouble (Demo)," "Something is Calling You (First Sessions Outtake / Tabla Version)," and "Lonestar (First Sessions Demo)." Between this and the deluxe version of the The Verve project I listened to this past week as part of this journey, I'm noticing that springing the extra time on the deluxe versions pays off. Sometimes the demo or alternate take of a track has a unique twist on it that resonates more with me. Has been an interesting observation from this undertaking. Anyway, I enjoyed this, but I don't see myself intentionally returning to it often. It's great to have playing in the background while working on mundane tasks to lift your mood and spirits. Of course, Norah Jones has a gorgeous voice; that rasp is to die for. All in all, a good project and worthwhile listen, but not my speed or interests if I were going out of my way.

It’s chill and nice and coffee shop core but it’s just kind of fine!

this record was huge when it came out. i knew every song despite never intentionally listening to it.

Not for me but over all not bad

Very gorgeous songs, love the instrumental breaks that go wild throughout as well.

Beautiful voice but the music is boring

Genre: Jazz Pop Norah Jones kind of fucked the game up with this. The musical landscape was becoming dominated with electronic and hip hop sounds, but then here came Ravi Shankar’s daughter from the top ropes, with acoustic, jazzy ballads. This shit was everywhere. I can’t believe how many copies of this record have sold, it’s staggering, and listening to it nowadays…you really had to be there, I guess. Norah’s got a great voice, and the singles still hit like they did when I was a kid, but this album is pretty meh. Good for Norah, though. 3/5

Some genuine nostalgia fodder in here for me

It was good. Amy Winehouse without the flair. The instrumentation was good and the song writing was good. Not super memorable but I’ll probably go back to it

One great song, the rest serviceable.

Voix claire mais chaude - un album très mignon qui s'écoute tout seul. Sonne parfois un peu trop "noël" à mon goût, mais c'est un défaut du genre plus que de l'album.

Decent album, a bit too dull and lullaby like for my tastes, an easy listen though that would fit right in as background music in a lot of situations.

This album is definitely an album album if you know what I mean, it has the same feel throughout, so much that a lot of the songs definitely sound the same, other than a couple standouts. Definitely the kind of record you would stick on for lounging or to listen to on a solo road trip on an empty road or something. Not to take away from the artistic nature behind it or anything, it’s definitely meant to serve this purpose as she even described it so as a “moody” album. Mostly jazzy inspired pop with gentle acoustic guitar and piano with soft vocals with not much variety but still good except maybe too long as it doesn’t have enough ideas to justify the length. Overall, 6.5/10.

this was actually crazy that this was the album today bc caitlyn literally just recommended me to listen to it!! so i listened thinking of her and it’s not my typical vibe but it felt so peaceful and sweet to listen to

It's pleasant. Don't bother unless you have kids or are over 35 :)

Good songwriting. Wish the instrumentation was a bit more varied

Not a fan, music is nice but Norah's voice with almost no interesting inflections makes me want to stay away from her music

Don't Know Why - From someone who doesn't really listen to "Bossa Nova" all that much, this is a great gateway to what that genre is. Not a bad opening. 7/10 Seven Years - Will probably add this one to my acoustic playlist. Need something to calm you down after a long day's work? This will suffice nicely. 8/10 Cold Cold Heart - This wins the award for "Most likely to play at the end of the night at a jazz club as everyone leaves". Again, perfect for what it is. Not my personal go-to, but perfectly alright. 7/10 Feelin' The Same Way - Country-ish. Would play while driving down a road in the middle of the flatlands alone in the middle of the night. 7/10 Come Away With Me - Again, country-ish. Almost too slow for my liking, but if I ever needed a kid to go to sleep, I would probably have this, or something like this, at the ready. 6/10 Shoot The Moon - Is this a country album? Cause I think this is morphing into a country album. Similar to Come Away With Me, but I would probably pick this one if given the option because there's more stuff going on for me to get lost in. 7/10 Turn Me On - Sike, we're back to jazz. Hereby awarded "Most likely to be played at the wedding during the part towards the end when everyone slow dances with their partner after all the hype songs have already been played and everyone's sweaty and tired and ready to go home". PFWII(Perfect for what it is, thought I'd acronym it at this point). 7/10 Lonestar - Wait, actually sike again, we're back to country. A bit more on the basic side. Would probably skip this one the most. Still kinda decent, but, in my opinion, a bit more boring than what I've heard so far. 5/10 I've Got To See You Again - Back to jazz again. Love the risque, kinda suave feel of this one. Probably the most interesting listen so far. 8/10 Painter Song - Wins the "Most likely to be played by a guy sitting on his porch on the plains at night as he looks at the stars and reflects on his life". Also, a harmonica. Frick yeah. Paint analogy that is worded and blended into the song beautifully. Frickety frick yeah. Find me in 80 years playing this one on my old, worn-down guitar with my wife on harmonica on the plains of Wyoming. 8/10 One Flight Down - Back to jazz again. Kinda basic drum beat brings this one down a bit. Decent for what it is. 7/10 Nightingale - "Hey, drummer, give me your best groovy fill stuff". Heck. Yeah. Kept my attention more than any other song here. As a drummer myself, this is the most entertaining song on this album. 9/10 The Long Day Is Over - A bit too slow for my taste, but would probably play at the end of a long day(hence the name). 7/10 The Nearness of You - Piano's time to shine. Pretty nice ending. 7/10 Overall, 7.5/10. Not a bad one. As someone who isn't really into lighter, slower stuff, this was a pretty nice intro into the world of light, slow stuff. The mix of country and jazz throughout added some nice variety. Would probably put this one on one day if I need some help going to sleep or studying late at night.

It's fine! Why is it on this list? Most of these are perfectly adequate covers of standards.

I appreciate the global coffee house vibes, but it’s just not really my jam. 2.5 stars.

So, from an objective standpoint, I think this is a very good album. Norah's a great singer who has surrounded herself with good musicians and the songs are all fine. Still, there's something I don't quite like about it. It feels very safe. Movie people talk about films being Oscar bait a lot, and this feels like Grammy bait. Slightly jazzy, slightly bluesy ballads with pristine, timeless production. So, while I think it's good, I think it's also a little lacking in the excitement department and that holds me back a bit. Highlights for me are probably "Don't Know Why" and the title track. I also kind of appreciated the countryish "Lonestar" for bringing a different vibe to the album. 3.5 stars.

The ultimate coffee shop album. Very smooth, classy and unobtrusive and whilst it’s on is eminently warm and delicious. I’ve put this on at work maybe a hundred times but even now I can only recall Don’t Know Why and the title track as actual distinct songs so clearly not the most memorable opus ever written. 3.5 stars.

Such a time capsule album. It’s not my style but she’s damn talented.

Some good songs on there

Instrumentally it's a strong 4 but I am not a biggest fan of her voice.

I know almost nothing about Norah Jones or this album. I heard some very chill and laid-back jazz-adjacent music. She also has a very nice voice. Unfortunately, the overall effect is it sounds like a Starbucks' CD music sampler from 2002 or background music from an episode of Ally McBeal. Apparently this album was popular and critically acclaimed, but listening today it sounds generic and it is a little boring.

Difficile de dire que c'est un mauvais album mais ce n'est pas non plus un bon album.

It's a chill album. Maybe too calm for me.

Solid. Sweet relaxing Sunday morning music.

Another debut album here, though the first of the jazz genre. Beautiful melodious voice, great accompaniment, nice listening when the mood appropriately aligns. This is the only Norah Jones recording I have in my collection, so obviously I have an affinity for this album.

Very smooth. Too smooth in fact. "Don't Know Why" is a banger though. 3.4

Her voice is beautiful. The production is smooth and shiny. It’s a great record, with heavy late-90s “coffee house” vibes. That’s not an insult. It’s good. Just not something I need to listen to more than I already did back then.

Very soft and beautiful album. I always can appreciate a nice jazzy (but also very poppy) album on an overcast / slightly raining day. Just not enough to get a 4 tho

Fine just a lil slow for me

It's vanilla, but not too bad

Very relaxing and pretty vocals. Nothing that interesting but good vibes in general.

Pretty, wish it gave more

Classic

It was fine, I feel like singer songwriter stuff is very personal and and either hits or doesnt

Great voice and great recording

My Heart Is Drenched In Wine 1001 Albums Generator 87 (08/01/2025) Commercial performance is a funny thing. Norah Jones' debut studio album, Come Away With Me, is the highest selling solo debut album of the 21st Century and is one of the best selling albums of all time, but I have never even heard of it. I would describe the sound of this album as vaguely jazzy with strong pop sensibilities. The star of the show is of course Norah herself. Her vocals are beautifully sultry, giving off the vibe of being in a smoky lounge downtown somewhere. I don't know how many of the lyrics were written by her, but they are consistently beautiful and sentimental. The start of this album is also fantastic. Don't Know Why through Shoot The Moon is a wonderful mix of sounds. Seven Years and Feelin The Same Way showcase a folksy sound, while Cold Cold Heart and Come Away With Me sound more akin to classic jazz. There is also certainly a bit of blues influence in some of these songs as well (see Turn Me On). However, these diverse sounds are all through the lens of pop. I think that this restriction, while being the reason for the commercial success of this album, is also the reason why I just don't enjoy it too much. It is difficult for 14 extremely agreeable pop songs to stand out in any meaningful way, even when songs like Don't Know Why and I've Got To See You Again are wonderful on their own. I don't even know if the second half of this album is truly weaker or if I was just tired of it by the end. Regardless, I struggle to call this album "bad" or "good". It's just kind of there, with some good elements, but I have no desire to come back to it. Kind of the definition of 2.5/5, rounded up to a 3. Favs: Don't Know Why Cold Cold Heart I've Got To See You Again Least Fav: The Nearness Of You

Goes down easy!

Very slow and thoughtful, didn't listen to many of the lyrics. But was a solid listen, although it's not my vibe was solid.

Heavy on vibes, light on originality. But the vibes are great.

This is very pleasant background music. Put this on at a wine and cheese party and you're good to go.

The record is technically excellent. Great musicianship, arrangements, production. The vocals are smooth and pleasant. Not much emotion or urgency tho, especially with material like Cold Cold Heart and Turn me On

Is as if Houston's released a soundtrack for their restaurants in the early 00s

I just can’t bring myself to care about this kind of music. She has a beautiful voice but my god it’s so boring. ‘i’ve got to see you again’ was the only song that really stood out to me because it sounds a bit darker and used more interesting instrumentation. i think... fav tracks: i’ve got to see you again

Intiimi, herkkä, levee ja nostalginen.

As a metalhead from way back, you might think I’d cringe at having to listen to Norah Jones. However, as I’ve aged, my palate has expanded, and there was a period when I listened to this album for weeks on end. In fact, I was obsessed with Norah Jones. Listening to this album now, I still really like it, but I’m not in love with it anymore. The songs are still good and Jones' voice is top-notch, but musically, many of the songs bored me. As I told someone yesterday, I'm more likely to be able to whistle you a guitar solo by heart than recite song lyrics. But the two big hits, Don’t Know Why and Come Away with Me still do it for me and are perfect. They still give me chills, and I wonder someday if Ms. Jones will be the future ex-Mrs. Bratcher. The rest of the album didn’t hit me like Bowie's Station to Station. Maybe that’s it, it’s hard to follow Bowie. However, if you’ve never heard this album before, it’s definitely worth a listen and maybe worth a few weeks’ obsession.

Lyrics are good, nice voice. Songs all sound similar. Good music for a sad rainy day, but I'm not in the mood to be depressed. Mabel's ranking: 5 stars My ranking: 3 stars

A little too smooth for me

Bueno es un album que ya conocía, me encanta la voz de Norah Jones pero procedemos a ello. Su voz es preciosa y me lleva a un lugar tan concreto.. Lo estoy escuchando a primera hora de la mañana y me parece bastante oportuno. 1. Don´t know why: una cancion agradable pero quizas no reseñable. 2. Seven years: la instrumental tan sencilla te da espacio mental para mentalmente estar y la duración me parece perfecta. 3. Cold cold heart: ese bajooooo me encanta. Su sencillez es muy característica. "and so my hear is paying now for things i didn't do". "the more i learn to care for you the more we drift apart". Siento que canta de un proceso doloroso pero con esa melodía sencilla y luminosa que le da tanto aire y sirve como parachoque del daño. 4. Feelin' The Same Way: aaaaa la melodía vocal es perfecta, guardada. "So many times I wonder where I've gone And how I found my way back in I look around awhile for something lost Maybe I'll find it in the end" 5. Come Away With Me: "Come away where they can't tempt us With their lies". Es como si te llevara de la mano por sus pensamientos, sus deseos, su imaginario.. 6. Shoot the Moon: "The summer days are gone too soon You shoot the moon and miss completely And now you're left to face the gloom The empty room that once smelled sweetly" Vamos a ella la han dejado y ella le echa la culpa a la estacion del año jajajajaja que tía 7. Turn Me On: una de mis canciones favoritas de mi vida sin duda. Es perfecta me temo. "My hi-fi is waiting for a new tune My glass is waiting for some fresh ice cubes I'm just sitting here waiting for you To come on home and turn me on" 8. Lonestar: "Lonestar, where are you out tonight? This feeling I'm trying to fight It's dark and I think that I would give anything For you to shine down on me" Ya el album a estas alturas se empieza a hacer un poco monótono, pero al menos tiene una visión clara y redonda. 9. I’ve Got to See You Again: la instrumental aquí parece dar un giro, mientras su voz se mantiene en el mismo lugar pero con otro sentir. "I could almost go there Just to watch you be seen I could almost go there Just to live in a dream" ella persigue a toda costa a su crush vamos. 10. Painter Song: "If I were a painter I would paint my reverie If that's the only way for you to be with me We'd be there together Just like we used to be Underneath the swirling skies for all to see" no conocía esta canción y me ha encantado. 11. One Flight Down: la malodia con la que comienza me atrapó desde el primer instante. 12. Nightingale: se me hizo un poco pesada. Es como que despues de este aire en el album vuelve a sentirse algo denso. 13. The Long Day Is Over: expresa genial el titulo de la canción, solo que no parece acabar, ya estamos strugglin. 14. The Nearness of You: casi que se siente el llegar a la meta por fin. "I need no soft lights to enchant me If you will only grant me the right To hold you ever so tight And to feel in the night The nearness of you" Si te gustan las canciones tranquilas con alegorías a la naturaleza y el amor insistente a un amor idealizado, sin duda este es tu album. 6,5/10

Way too easy going for a working day. Her pronunciation of s & h is driving me mad. On musical terms this is perfectly executed and a gem. But not necessarily a top 1001.

Like everyone else in 2002, my dad had this CD, and it was on in the house all the time. Sure, it’s Starbucks music. Don’t Know Why was definitely on heavy rotation at the cafe I worked at. I would say this album both epitomized and solidified the template for coffee house soundtracks. As a result, I think Norah Jones elevated a lot of artists who happened to be making mellow singer-songwriter-y jazzy pop and pop/rock. But a lot of that music sucks, and this album doesn’t. She has a beautiful voice and the arrangements are soothing without being totally generic. There’s a warm heart to this record, and it’s not surprising literally everyone owned a copy. This album is relaxing and pleasant and I have few complaints about it. It does feel a little long, despite having a relatively short running time (45 mins). I think it’s because all the songs start to run together by the end and the album kind of peters out. I still like Don’t Know Why even though I heard it a million times on the job. Turn Me On is in a prominent scene in Love Actually - a movie so bad it’s good again - mostly this reminds me of watching it over and over again with my university hockey teammates-slash-roommates. Sometimes, things are ubiquitous because they’re nice. And okay, having your CDs prominently placed in Starbucks helps.

Lindo album, de vez en cuando lo escucho pero no es de mis must have.

Weirdly kinda dull, I've heard fantastic things about this but it just glossed over me

Heard Don't Know Why and kinda expected the whole album to be that good lol. The rest of it is fine and good for a relaxing morning, but didn't hit the same unfortunately.

Great voice, chill music, solid tracks, but the whole time through, I couldn't help but think Norah Jones is just some cheaper Joni Mitchell. Although nothing is wrong with 'Come Sail Away With Me', it misses a spark.

Pretty fantastic

It's inoffensive. Liked it a lot at first, then you bored by the end. Something I would play at certain times in certain circumstances and enjoy, but not my favorite.

Cool jazz from the early 2000’s

Very pleasant but unremarkable.

It's good! That's all I can say! It's good enough! Feels a bit like a hallmark movie in music form, but that's ok. She's got a good voice. 6/10

Chill and relaxing, nice mix of vocal jazz and singer songwriter. My only flaw with this is that it tends to be kind of 1 note. 7/10

Always really liked Don't Know Why, and she has a stonking voice. Great, intimate production. It's a cool record, but all quite similar, so nothing stood out especially.

Agreeable, but nothing special

The album never tries to do anything different with Norah Jones voice, atmosphere, or instrument. You’re stuck in this piano lounge until the album concludes. So finish a bottle of wine and cry into your napkin while Come Away With Me brings back all your life’s biggest regrets. If despondency had a greatest hits album. 5/5 if you’re in that mood but 3/5 for me on this particular day

Very nice

A good, solid album. Reminiscent of the best of the 1970s. A decent, atmosphere listen, but one that you have to be in the mood for.

She has a really nice voice

Cozy and charming, probably among the best of its genre of easy listening pop

Was fine. Why tho?

Beautiful voice and music. Maybe just a bit too similar songs, though, to listen to a whole album.

Listened in the car on the way home from work. Again, a little familiar with this, but mainly from the singles released. Norah has a beautiful voice but the whole thing washed over me a bit. I think it's probably just the wrong environment - I can imagine listening in a club, a couple of whiskeys down and enjoying, but I don't think it's made for being stuck in traffic on the M6. Highlight was a track called Nightingale, the rest blended into one a little. Genuinely beautiful voice though.

I know Norah Jones. Not a huge fan of her work, a bit too mellow and slow for me but I do respect her stuff.

I could see this hitting at the right moment

Good but not my thing

Soft vibes, something I'd listen to while sitting in a park or at a beach on a cool day.

I'd not heard this before and wasn't expecting much, but pleasantly surprised. The more bluesy numbers weren't bad. It probably won't be making a regular return to my playlist and I'm not sure it's strong or interesting enough to be making this list really, though

Very sweet, soothing and melodic. Unfortunately I do need a little bit more edge, guitar and speed to get going. Stand out songs: Turn Me On Nightingale

Starbucks music

Nice and mellow tunes for lounging around. Felt like something I'd hear in an old bookstore or a trendy coffee joint. As an album came off as one-note to me. It felt as if I could have dipped into any song and gotten roughly the same experience, barring the openings. However, it felt as if the emotional tones shifted from down to up between the first and the last songs, ending with epilogue vibes in 'The Nearness of You.' Casual observation: I think it was 'I've Got To See You Again' that layered her voice for an interesting effect.

good voice, but still it felt more like background music instead of something id listen to for a music experience

3/5 added a few songs was a nice change of pace from what I am used too

It's very okay

Best Song: Don't Know Why. The quintessential meet-cute song. Worst Song: The Long Day is Over. Ignoring the petty meta-textual reason not to like this song (why have a song called "The Long Day is Over" not be the final song in the album?) it's just the album at its most sleepiness when it could really use some pep. Overall: A lovely, quiet album. The vocals are obviously the star here, but the arrangements really help push the quality of her voice to the fore. That said, the album has a kind of sleepy sameness that makes it hard to stay excited about as it in the latter half as in the first. Still, good for quiet evenings.

какими-то интервалами приятно слушать но потом надоедает, не моё

Flojito al principio, despues se vuelve winehouse

I remember when this album came out, my senior year in high school. It was a rather big deal. Nora is a beautiful woman with an amazing voice. But just like 23 years ago, it is very slow and rather boring. The music is such a simple acoustic snooze fest that were made to let Nora's voice shine, but it adds a layer of elevator aura that is hard to get through. This album was born in a Starbuck and raised in an elevator by a dad in a fidora who no one knows his occupation is and a mother who sells thrifted dresses that she adds sunflower patches to. 6.0/10 78/1001

Jones voice always sounds nice. The album itself was a little one note to me- a lot of the songs sort of blend together. Still- pleasant enough and relaxing

And I am immediately back in college. I was never a Norah Jones fan, but I have enjoyed hearing the music. This was a very nice trip back in time. Apparently I have heard this album a lot which makes sense because of how popular it was. Nothing wrong with some pleasant piana music, but this album felt progressive with the way each song is a little similar and not changing much between songs. It was a pleasant trip.

Songs: Come Away With Me, Lonestar

Norah Jones has never crossed my radar. She's just not my musical taste. I knew I'd be in for a very relaxed, soothing listening experience. And that is exactly what I got. And it was kind of glorious. It put my 4 month old to sleep twice. Jones obviously has a really nice smooth voice, no denying that. This album was her debut and won Album of the Year, so, like, it clearly didn't fly under anyone else's radars. Instrumentally theres some nice loungy piano pieces with some guitars. It's very low key and bluesy. Standouts were "Don't Know Why," "Seven Years," "I've Got To See You Again" and "Nightingale" This is a 3/5 for me. Its just a little too chill to keep me engaged for a whole album unless I'm trying to fall asleep or something. I was a little bored by the time I hit the end of the album, but it's a nice one to wake up to in the morning or end your day with if you're trying to relax.

Симпатично, джазово, лайтово. Для тихонького, задумчивого вечерочка. Но в ней не хватает какого-то огонька будто, поэтому 3.

Naxi cafe radio core fazon pozadinske muzike. Spašava je nadprosječan glas, osim toga je sve prosječno i monotono.

Nice voice

Not my cup of tea but I understand why others really enjoy it.

wel leuk, ook wel erg soft

This is pleasant.

Okay so I really hate the song "Don't Know Why" and it could be because it was heavily overplayed when I was growing up... so when I got this album I wasn't excited at all. And... my reaction was right. She has a pretty voice but the songs are all so similar and boring and I was just waiting for it to be over. I didn't hate it, but I certainly didn't need to hear it before I die.

The majority of criticisms for this album seem to be that it's too safe and middle of the road - perfectly pleasant to listen to in the background, and that's about it. I'm afraid I can't even afford it that. Right out of the gate it's just so bland. It's perfectly well made, but it's so safe and boring that it just lacks any kind of soul. There are precisely zero edges to this. 2.5 rounded up.

Pretty solid easy jazzy debut. Norah Jones has a stellar voice but no track shines brighter than her mega hit “don’t know why”. The rest is kinda background fodder.

02/06/2025 She's got a good voice, it was just very boring and lethargic. It didn't tickle my pickle.

Was great by the pool on holiday. A little sad at times.

It was nice but somehow I feel like her voice and her style don’t match

Don’t know why is a banger and I’m not afraid to admit it. The rest of this is pretty meh. The kind of music that you’d hear at a coffee shop in Napa Valley where the lattes are $12 and the barista “can’t imagine living the city life.” If I was a 48 year old woman I would probably love this, if only life was so simple.

Haven’t heard this one in a while. Good stuff.

Too soft / relaxed for what I typically listen to, but not bad overall. Might be good studying or working music

Wonderful musicianship and singing. It didn’t grab me that I want to return. I might give another shot to be fair

A mix of songs you’d hear in a coffee shop or played live in a fancy restaurant. Easy listening, just nothing all that remarkable

I had already heard the opening song before. it is yummy yummy goodness, sound like the Toy Story, all packed into a sweet raspberry. everything is very well placed, with reason. I liked Don't know why the most but the rest of the songs were very nice. It's one of those ones where all the songs are all more or less equal to me, however at about a 7/10 id say. but very nice music, it sound like a darn Sunday morning.

Completely inoffensive pop music. Nothing really special but I appreciate its low-key tone, even if it’s just a more generic version of a Carole King or Fiona Apple. No denying she has a great voice though. Songs kind of blend into each other by the end of it. Best tracks: Don't know why, Seven Years, I've Got to See You Again

This album feels like something you might hear at a market or fair. Something that anyone can bob along with. Gentle instrumentation and Infectious chord progressions, with a hint of jazz continue the appeal. In my opinion a few songs felt like filler. Overall, a decent album, but nothing to write home about. Best track was "Turn Me On"

Album interessante com algumas canções que ficam no ouvido. Mas, por outro lado, a maior parte das canções são todas no mesmo tom, o que se torna um pouco aborrecido.

stunning voice!!

This album sounds so much like 2002 and I can’t explain it any better than that.

Had a lovely rest listening to this and can see myself using it for that again.

A bit boring, but soothing. 6/10

I like Norah Jones’ sensibilities and her voice, but this album is a bit too slick for me to really enjoy. Some of her later stuff I like a lot better.

Solid 3. She has a good voice and i like the minimal production. easy listen. doesnt touch eva cassidy though

It's all very lovely but not very exciting to me.

Apparently Norah Jones called this her moody little album. It's an apt description. In addition to being moody it's also gentle and sometimes lovely, but occasionally a little boring. Favorites: Shoot the Moon, I've Got to See You Again

A lovely album. Not enormous range, but everything is pleasant on its own terms. Would happily return to this any time.

Norah Jones always makes me thing of that iconic scene from Girls. Fave song: Don't Know Why

c: shoot the moon

Pov caminas solo por nothing hill Turn me on, muy bueno

A few standouts, but an album that felt like it should've been 15-20 shorter. 5/10

Its very smooth and a bit boring.

3 stars

Very nice. I would have probably have skipped this normally, but having just listened to the complexity of “The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady”, I felt in the mood for something a bit laid back. And it’s only 45 minutes long. This practically screams “laid back coffee shop vibes”. It shrieks, “chilled out bar cocktails”. It hollers, “Rom com Christmas coziness”. I didn’t mind it. It’s missing the sadness or anger or bitterness that it would need to really resonate with me. I guess that’s a psychological fault of mine. I’ll stick to Aimee Mann. But this was very nice. It’s probably a 3.5. But i’ll give it a three because I doubt I’ll ever listen to it again.

A nice and chilled album, classic early 2000s

Exactly what u expect. Slow xmassy jazz

Epitome of cafe music to me. Definitely felt very early to mid 2000s. It's has pleasant songs, but this album/style isn't my thing.

You know you're in for some easy listening when Norah Jones comes on. Still wildly impressive that this was her debut album. Sold like hotcakes and Jones sounded like she was ready for the moment too. That's a jazz vocalist right there. It's coffee shop jazz at its core (which apparently is a criticism based on most of the reviews...) with hints of folk & country, making this an easy and enjoyable listen. Maybe it doesn't have quite the reach and versatility that many were expecting, but it's safe/easy and that's fine. I've always been fond of the smash single "Don't Know Why", but Jones's covers of "Cold Cold Heart" and "Turn Me On" were also notable.

Lovely voice

Calming music and a nice voice. Nothing too deep but can suit the right mood.

Up and down

Pivoted from an eye-rolling "ugh, not this shit" 2 to a "nice, but not for me" 3 as I kept having to give Jones & Co. credit for their chops and admit that most of my immediate ire was more about the sort of open mic denizens who LOVE saying shit like "let's slow it down a little" (when they're already singing at a crawl!!) and not so much Norah herself. also, I just learned she's Ravi Shankar's nepo baby?? (I know from peeking that at least one of Shankar's LPs is on the list, which has got me wondering how many pairs of parent and child have at least one record each on the list).

Folk-ish vibes, it's nice and relaxing.

Good music, but reminds me too much of being in a Starbucks in 2003.

Ehhh, it’s fine. Perfectly good, mellow, coffee shop music. 2.5 ⭐️ rounding up because I like coffee ☕️

I don't know, it was fine. It just wasn't really what I wanted to be listening to this morning. I could see listening to this some other time though. As an aside, more than once (at least three), Spotify has gone from whatever the day's album is to ...Like Clockwork-era QOTSA and it's not even that much of a stretch. It happened today and it happened with Radiohead. Stop calling me out on albums I do like being kind of similar to albums I don't!

One of my wife’s favorites. I’m not crazy about it, but I’ve heard it enough that I don’t mind listening to it. I’ll say the higher end of 3 stars, but not quite enough to round up to 4.

Soothing. Recognized the first song. Did not finish.

My ex had Norah jones as his side girl's ring tone and I just can't listen to her without getting mad again. It's not Norah's fault he's a scumbag, but it is his fault I can't listen to Norah Jones without getting angry.

This album is peak Gilmore Girls vibes. Norah Jones has a beautiful voice and a knack for lyricism, and I think she’s a very talented artist. I did however find myself getting a little bored by halfway through this record, like the songs were all blending together into one gelatinous mass. It’s not a bad record, musically it’s really well done, and the production is fine, but I think it suffers from an overarching sameness. I actually struggle to rate this album, 2 seems too low, 3 seems too high, but I think 2 seems further away from the truth than 3. 3*

It feels like this album was absolutely everywhere for several years after it first came out, but i had never listened to it front to back. Norah Jones is one of those like, classic coffee shop artists. Like back when Starbucks used to sell CDs of the music they played because everyone was like wow, this cool relaxing artsy mix of singer songwriters is so novel and exciting. What a time. Anyway. This is a pretty album but it’s also… kinda monotonous and gets a bit boring after, i dunno, 5 or 6 songs. Which is a shame because the music doesn’t stop being good, but i had definitely lost focus by the second half. I was going to listen to it again to give it a fairer shot, but honestly i think i get it. Also, i always think it’s funny when an artist is known for being a singer/songwriter and, well, writing their own songs, but their most famous song is written by someone else. Such is the case with “Don’t Know Why”, which is far and away the best song on this album imo.

There are a couple decent songs but the jazz style songs simply bore me. 3 stars or C-.

-it was very chill background music -no complaints

I normally despise singer songwriters unless they come from a punk or emo background. This is more jazz infused and it works. She's got a great voice for this style. Nothing too special here other than the production and the accessibility.

The definitive Coffee House chill-out album and certainly not without its charms, but there is an overwhelming sameness here that makes the whole album blend into a pile of pleasant mush. Jones has a beautiful voice with terrific texture though, and there are a few tracks here I'd happily listen to again. But ultimately this winds up being boring and doesn't reward much from re-listening.

Okay, what is wrong with my reprieve album radar? I made the scientifically-backed, Nobel Peace Prize-winning claim that I, on average, get recommended an album which is easy to listen to once every 20 albums. However, I am now getting them once every... 10 albums. That's not as bad as I thought. I have so many albums in my backlog that it feels like these albums are way more common than they actually are. Nice album. I can't really ask for more than that when I'm contractually obligated to hear over 1000 of these doohickeys. This is also the only reprieve album to date that is reprieving to write about, as I don't have much to say about it. It's more of the same with every track and that same is fortunately pretty good. "Don't Know Why" is the only exception to the norm, as that track edges into very good territory. Norah Jones' voice is silky smooth and is paired well with those wonderfully intimate, longing instrumentals. I'm curious to see why this album is in the book - let's see. Sold well. Blend of Folk and Jazz. That's all you need sometimes. I won't knock the inclusion. I have about 20 minutes left on this baby, so I'm going to take it easy it the tub. Yes, I occasionally write these reviews while I'm taking a bath. The 1001 albums book describes this album as a "beautiful bubblebath of an album", so you're the weird one, actually.

So pleasant it becomes unpleasant

Fairly breezy poppy jazzy stuff, I remember this feeling like a slow burning yet ubiquitous album when it came out, it would eventually sell millions upon millions of copies and win Grammys for Album of the Year and Record of the Year so of course there has to be some weird retroactive backlash... I mean, it's not going to set the world on fire, but for 45 minutes Norah does take you away.

Not for me. Music to hear.

Kind of a nothingburger, just run-of-the-mill singer/songwriter to play in corporate cafes. Title track was the only one of note.

3/5 fine

Musical Xanex. Dentist office music. Decent singing. Very breathy.

I really liked the production and arrangement. I wasn’t a huge fan of the songwriting, but that wasn’t bad by any means. Definitely better than I expected. Choosing a favorite track is difficult because the tracks mostly sound pretty similar. Favorite Track: I’ve Got to See You Again

Good to hear this again.

Pleasant enough, but nothing outstanding

Nice and relaxing. Simpsons: No

she has a beautiful voice and this is beautiful music

I was disappointed when this popped up because I was sure I don't like Norah Jones. Do I know any Norah Jones songs? I do not. Not sure why I had the feeling that I dislike her. Maybe in my head I'm conflating her with Lana Del Rey, whom I also don't like and also can not name a single song. Anyway, first impressions are mixed, she has an amazing voice. The songs are approaching a sound that I would like, but then there's this weird undercurrent of country music that just pops in. Like a slide guitar, or a certain twang that just makes me start to squirm. For example, Come With Me, which is apparently her big hit, starts out with sort of a standard, smoky, jazz lounge sound, but then there's a guitar solo about halfway through that sounds like it could be on a Conway Twitty album. Have I ever heard a Conrad Twitty song? I have not, but that's not the point. Focus. The point is that I don't *hate* this album, but it's too close to country music for me to like it. Three stars because I like her voice.

My dog won't settle and it's 4am on a Saturday. I brought him down stairs for a chance to go outside, then some water. I find something on my phone to read and wait for my dog to fall asleep while my eyes burn from lack of sleep. There is a storm brewing outside but it's still far off. This record feels like that feeling. It wants to be a classy version of the end of a night of gambling. But it's just a tired Saturday morning with a sick dog.

Pleasant smooth listening but didn’t leave much of an impression.

Красиво поёт

Beklediğim hit cikmadi, hayal kirikligi :(

Very beautiful and obviously got a stunning voice. Do find it getting a bit dull at times but pretty certain that’s a me problem and my lyrical ineptitude.

Nice soft jazzy vocal album.

The album itself is a bit boring. But damn her voice.

This is fine. I want to know what confluence of perfect storm events led to this selling 26m records.

Lovely and chilled but very much the same throughout

This is a fine album. It certainly is not masterpiece, but it's pleasant nonetheless. But make no mistake, this isn't "Jazz". This is standard late-90's/early-00's singer-songwriter stuff with hints of Jazz. While there's nothing wrong with that, a clear distinction must be made. Also, I've never been to a Starbucks so I never had the opportunity to hear it in its natural setting, or get sick of it. Key tracks: Don't Know Why Come Away With Me

Really good singing and playing here just not my usual music genre.

she’s alright

Klinkt goed maar gewoon best saai

Doing a vocal jazz album (I know it's not exactly a jazz album) is a tall task. You don't have to just be a good singer you have to be captivating. Nothing less. Otherwise, you have a perfectly agreeable vocal jazz album. This is especially true when we're talking about covers. This is a truly bizarre sentence, but, unfortunately, Norah Jones is a good singer. I'm Really only like two degrees of Kevin Bacon away from Amy. But boy do those two Bacons count. The album tries to trick you into thinking its more than it is by mixing genres, but it fails to be outstanding in either melding or execution of a singular sound. It's like fireworks. You had my attention for a little, but once we're on minute 27 you gotta show me more. Someone very well may be along for the ride for the whole 40 min show, but that ain't my ass. I've seen fireworks before. No shade to Norah. She made an enjoyable album, which is better than most. However, I'm supposed to be putting this shit up against absolute bangers. Rating: 6.85 Favorite Song: Come Away with Me

Nothing says "hanging out in Starbucks in the early 00s" quite like this album.

This album feels soft, sultry, bluesy, nostalgic. 2002 was still riding the Lilith Fair train with female powerhouse singer/songwriters. I loved it then, but it’s not something I’d pick to put on. Very pleasant rainy day listen.

Falls firmly in the 'nice background music' category. Mellow and warm sound, would be good in a fancy restaurant or lounge bar.

Very 2000s, Malaysians on this app will be reminded of songs played in Kaison in the mid 2010s. Chilled stuff tho, good background music for reading/working but I wouldn't jump at listening to it again.

Another album featuring a very strong vocalist with subdued music supporting their vocals. I've heard a few of these songs before, but hearing the full album was definitely enjoyable. She's definitely got a strong voice, but I felt that the album lost steam as it neared the end, and I felt it could have likely had a few songs cut to make it a much better overall package.

Из того, что удалось послушать нравится всё, нежненькая, как Dido.

I like her voice

The Good: Norah Jones inviting you to go somewhere with her! The Bad: Once you get there, you find out that she didn’t invite you for that… The Ugly: Having to find your way home… Ahhh, Norah, what a treasure. From the same alma matter where I got my education… When the single of this album hit, I really liked it… then, one evening, I was invited to my brother’s house for dinner, and he had this album on as back ground music, and I found out that, though I do appreciate the effort, I find listening to the entire album near torture… Sadly, this means that I can’t give this album a higher rating than a 2* However, I do like 1 too many songs on this album… so I will just pretend like I appreciate torture, bumping the score to a 3*

Got this romantic album on Valentine’s Day. Maybe not a coincidence? Very pretty, low key. I would have liked some grit, which is really not present. There’s nothing really to object to, which I guess is what I object to!

++*: Don't Know Why ++: Cold Cold Heart, Feelin' the Same Way, Turn Me On, Painter Song +: Seven Years, Shoot the Moon, I've Got to See You Again, One Flight Down, The Nearness of You +-: Come Away with Me, Lodestar, Nightingale, The Long Day Is Over 7,0/10

Not a super intentional listen but a cool rock album. Nothing really hooked me personally but I think I get the appeal. Like spiders and vinegaroons. Solid rhythm guitar playing throughout. 3

Everything about this is pretty and smooth. It's soothing and melodic and it's a nice thing to listen to. Obviously talented, but this is not something that I am all that interested in.

Good music to play during work

I have tried to listen to this album a number of times over the years, but never made it past a few tracks until today. And had to take a number of timeouts to manage a couple of times. And.. It’s alright i guess, just so middle of the road, a little soporific, a bit dull, somewhat trite, repetitive, and in the end overall feel its just underlying boring. I don’t understand the love, the justification for millions of album sales, millions of listens on streaming. People with more experience in social and cultural trend analysis can tackle that conundrum. It’s well made, but that’s part of the problem too, it sounds so corporate, done by committee, by the numbers ending up being so Muzak, bland, inoffensive, innocuous, insipid - perhaps some partial reason for the mass appeal. It’s the poster child for background music, it is on but just don’t pay it too much attention. Because when I do Nothing stands out, the 1st track is ok and probably the reason I kept giving it a go, that is a nice enough sound with some nice melody, but then each song sounds like the last, nothing memorable to distinguish when it all is finished. It leans into that moody and (attempted) sultry shtick but sounds like the 20yr old she was, trying to channel her next 20 yrs of melancholy and future experiences?? Maybe she could rerecord now she has the life experience, but please don't. 3 Stars, was initially 2 but it isn’t shit and its actually not bad at what it does, but maintains the middle of the road throughout. There are much better albums of what this sort of tries to be. Many older than this list starting date, by people who brought more life and experience and moved it from that centre ground. I just want more from my music and I just don’t need or want to hear this, unless like many others have noted I'm in my corporate line awaiting my bland corporate product. Let the millions listen, I don’t and won’t be.

pretty good.

I actually really enjoyed this. It was super mellow and made great background music (definitely felt like I was sitting in a coffee shop while at work). Honestly I preferred this to the couple of Adele albums I've generated so far.

It’s a nice little album, but Norah’s voice is a bit too subdued for my liking, and all songs are pretty similar

You know, I liked this once. I don’t dislike it now but golly, it’s so anonymous

Her voice is amazing, but the music on this album isn't great. Good overall.

I didn't have particularly strong feelings about it, but I found some parts pleasant.

It does feel a bit soulless, it does feel a bit like if it was created in a lab, but it's pretty good at what it does. But can it be anything but background music?

Nice enough, a little bit dreary really. No offense, but it just felt like the same track on repeat. It would be a useful aid if you have insomnia or something like that.

Objectively, it's a really good album, good variety and songwriting. But it's not my style at all. Wouldn't listen again, but I can see why people like her.

6/10. Modern Jazz. I would listen to this while having a steak dinner on a date. I like it🤷🏼‍♂️

Very pleasant, smooth blues-pop album from the early 00s (which was quite a big hit back then). It's the perfect coffee house background music. It's not something I would actively search for to listen, but still it is a consistent and well made album that I enjoyed.

Not entirely my thing but I enjoyed it for what it was. Norah is a great signer and the guitar added a nice accompaniment. Felt like if one of the dixie chicks went solo. not bad but not gonna be a stand out

Definitely Starbucks music, and this is very relaxing if nothing else. Jones has a great voice and the performers play very competently. Easy listening doesn’t mean bad.

Classic smooth sounds. Great voice, but I find it a little bland for me. Too safe.

Boring, pleasant, she was in Ted.

Voice is beautiful but not my cup of tea. Early 2000’s coffee house vibe. Songs sound too similar to me.

A solid performance. Some really good stuff, but I’m always left wondering if she had enough life experience to back up that sound. Anyway, plenty nice!

Calm, nice for the background

fine as far as vocals go. dreadfully boring as far as the backing tracks are concerned

I do love Norah's voice, and there are some amazingly beautiful tracks on here. I just can't break the feeling though that I'm at a wedding when I hear her haha. Not a bad album, but not something I need to listen to on the regular.

Very pleasant, lovely voice

Had never checked them out even though I was familiar with the name. Nice and chill. Will check out more. I’d did give Christmas music in a department store vibes though.

Norah has a nice voice, it's a pleasant listen. Otherwise I find this genre of radio 2 friendly singer songwriter hard to be enthusiastic about, doesn't excite me at all. A song or two of this level on an album with some angry or genuinely sad moments is great but this feels designed to be background music, nothing too distracting. It is still nice and does have it's place but I'm not really a fan. 2.5.

There is not a single thing wrong with this album. Not a missed note or clunky line. Production is top class with some impeccable flourishes. Musicianship abounds. But I can't escape the face that the main emotion I feel is the overwhelming desire to have a dinner party. That being said- quite a voice exquisitely captured. A solid 3+

Norah Jones is the kinda artist where im never gonna be mad listening to her, it’s nice enough music and feels nostalgic. But im never really gonna reach for her.

Not bad

Wonderful voice. Album is a little dull otherwise.

It is kind of nice but also kind of boring.

Background music, repetitive songs and not very unique.

She good. But meh.

A real coffeehouse vibe of an album. She’s got a zone and she stays in it the entire album, for better or worse. It’s inoffensive and she has a nice raspy voice but it’s pretty one dimensional. Feels like taking painkillers

Feels too much like easy listening lounge music for my taste (which I guess is kinda her background). Similar to the lyrics -- felt very generically lounge-y. Her voice is beautiful though

C'est doux

Beautiful voice, some great songs, and nice piano work, but nothing Id search out

It was calming and a nice listen overall 3.5 stars close to 4.

Yawn. Lovely but a bit dull

Mejores discos ese 2002, que tampoco fue un año para tirar cohetes: Beck - Sea Change, Sigur Rós - ( ), Neko Case - Blacklisted, The Streets - Original Pirate Material, Boards of Canada - Geogaddi, Spoon - Kill The Moonlight, The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights, Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, David Bowie – Heathen, múm – Finally we are no one, Tom Waits: Alice / Blood Money, Queens Of The Stone Age: Songs For The Deaf, American IV: The Man Comes Around de Johnny Cash... También: Low: Trust, The Delgados: Hate, The Coral- The Coral, Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man: Out Of Season, Solomon Burke: Don’t Give Up On Me, Lambchop: Is A Woman,, Coldplay- A rush of blood to the head, Doves- Last Broadcast, Faultline: Your Love Means Everything, Death In Vegas: Scorpio Rising, Roddy Frame: Surf, Pet Shop Boys- Release, red Hot Chili Peppers- By the way, Neil Young- Are You Passionate?,

This album was super pleasant, definitely a more interesting genre fusion than I expected.

Siri, please choose me the musical definition of the word 'vanilla'. Of course, her voice is gorgeous and she doesn't feel the need to push it or shove it in your face but this album can fade so effortlessly into the background, even on repeat listens on headphones, that it may as well just stay there.

Chill jazz inspired pop

liked song: I've Got To See You Again It's good. A little slow, but I do like the chill bluesy vibes. Norah is very talented. 3

Obvi really good and beautiful voice and all but like so effing boring to me i can not

Beautiful voice and more tolerable as jazz goes.

iconic voice with a brilliant debut

I think my impression of Norah has been unfair. I can only picture gen-x women living peaceful lives when I think of this album, and really... that doesn't change, but it really is a pleasant record. Completely inoffensive but not devoid of interesting ideas. The major knock being that it starts with it's strongest single and tends to drag on without much else to note beyond it. 2.5/5

I sighed when I saw this album on the list, remembering when new Jazz pop was all the rage. Reading things like "WhY DoN't ThEy MaKe ReAl MuSiC LiKe ThIs AnYmOrE". This, Melody Gardot and the likes where really the bees knees for a while. Listening to it now, it is actually quite good. Maybe I've just gotten old and boring. "Don't know why" is a chill and good song. Otherwise I found "Come away with me" still a bit annoying, maybe teenage me is still hates it enough to filter through. There are good songs here and there but I wish for more variety. "I've Got to See you Again" is different from the rest and it is really good. I also wish there was more blues and edginess to the rest of the songs. This really shines through if you listen to the bonus CD (not taken in to account in the review) where her cover of "Hallelujah, I Love Him So" is really good. The whole bonus CD is good, leaning more to jazz with an unpolished, raw mixing, with session recordings and demos. The unpolishedness really elevates it, so does the solos. A very strong 3, probably a weak 4 but I would betray my old self. I think you should listen to the bonus CD and some of the singles. Honestly, this is one of the times where polish makes it worse.

Fine. Kind of boring but whatever. Idc.

Nice jazzy vibes 3.5

Nice but not for me

Beautiful, nostalgic, gets a little goopy at the end. Would still consider it a must-listen. (#43)

Snoozy but easy to listen. 3.

timeless classic sound, which comes with it never sounding terribly adventurous

Very Sunday morning vibes

Nice voice, but all the songs sounded the same. It just blended into one long coffee shop soundtrack Pleasant sounding though so it gets an alright rating 3 ⭐️

“Don’t know why”, sanfter Soul mit prägnanter Frauenstimme. Mal sind die Songs besser, mal was schlechter. Die zu starke Jazz Orientierung steht einer überdurchschnittlichen Bewertung entgegen.

Nice. If you're into John Mayer you might like this

Nice background music, a bit same-same after a bit

I still like Don't Know Why. The album as a whole is soft, warm, jazz for a mellow mood. It's perfectly alright.

Norah Jones' debut album was released on Blue Note, and features her elegant, smokey contralto and delicate pianisms backed by some pretty heavy hitters in the jazz scene at the time. half of these songs feature Brian Blade, who might be my favorite drummer on the planet! unfortunately, I think I set myself up for a slight bit of disappointment in that preliminary research process I take with all the albums on this list before pressing play. this is an extremely tranquil set of tracks, suited perfectly for the task of looking longingly out of your bedroom window with a cup of coffee. Jones and her band play very tastefully and unobstrusively; you could take the Terrence Fletcher route and deride this as "Starbucks jazz", but there's absolutely a place for this vibe in jazz. it's just not really what I go out of my way to look for as a jazz listener. I guess I was hoping for a little bit more musical excitement and interplay than what's actually here. it comes through every now and again, but I want much more of it! maybe if I had approached this with a slightly different mentality, I'd be able to appreciate it more for what it is, rather than what I might have wanted it to be. without question, I could definitely say I liked what I heard, but I think if I'm going to return to this, I need to be more prepared to listen to a pop album than a jazz one. decent 6/10.

pretty good, dripping in early 2000’s melancholy, a musical era i don’t want to forget. some of the songs and vocal style got redundant

why is it so damn long??? I like it better than the 1960s, but still not a fan of her voice

She’s got a good voice and the vibe is there. It does bug me when the majority of songs on an album aren’t written by the recording artist, I just think it depreciates the ‘must listen’ value. So I payed special attention to the ones she wrote… the title track, nightingale and the long day is over. Nightingale is also great! The long day is over is good and the title track is really great! Thought of the other tracks feeling the same way was good. But Yh not much else IMO. It’s not overly for me but not horrible 3/5

Really like her voice, decent

Enjoyable easy listening. Not much stuck in my head after one listen, but I wouldn't mind putting on again a few times

Although I'm not at all surprised to find this album in this collection, but I'll admit it's not at all a favorite of mine. There's nothing wrong with the album, the songs or Norah Jones' style, but every time I've heard this album (and I've heard it a few times, strangely), it just feels like there's nothing there. It seems like she assembled a good group of session musicians, and she clearly has musical talent, but there's little to no affect in her voice, even when she's singing about sadness or regret or even happiness or love. Too bad, since this is the only chance Norah Jones gets in this collection (unlike, say, Amy Winehouse, who was clearly still finding her way on "Frank" but then got into her groove with "Back to Black", and we get to give her a second chance).

Lovely album though Jones ties her voice down to such a limited range it's a little frustrating. Really liked "Feeling the same way..." and "Turn me on" as well as the title track.

Full disclosure, my wife picked the title track as our wedding dance song, so I'm predisposed to have a soft spot here. Ok, now that that's out of the way: she's a good singer with good arrangements and there's nothing here that really blows me away.

Nice album, good for background at a dinner party 6/10

Nothing wrong with it really, just very forgettable soft pop.

Somewhere at the center of soft pop, folk, and smooth vocal jazz. She has a tender, soothing voice that’s soft but emotional. The album feels like it should be played late night at a “jazz club” full of middle class middle aged white people or a pseudo-hipster coffee shop (and neither of those are slights). The instrumentalists backing her are talented but subtle and don’t get much room to shine here as Jones’ voice is the primary focal point. The moments they do aren’t tasteful. Not a lot of diversity (sound, pace, tone), so it all starts to blend together and get a bit repetitive. Not a highly memorable or impactful album, but some good songs and a pleasant voice.

It was nothing special, but soothing it was, and it was fine.

The playlist at every wedding in the early 2000s

Catchy but slick.

2.5 rounded up her voice is nice and all but in no way is this an essential listen. like be serious. highlights: feelin’ the same way, come away with me, nightingale (apr 28 2026)

Nothing special

This very much defined soft pop radio in the early aughts. Nice easy listening. Highlights: don’t know why

This is another one of those albums that struck a chord with the listening public as being something to put on if you were planning a cozy night in with your significant other. I’m not entirely sure quite how romantic the line about wanting to be turned on like a light bulb in a darkened room is though! It’s a nice easy listen though - a bit of piano, some folky guitar and smooth vocals from Norah herself. Not my usual cup of tea, but a solid 3 stars though.

Come Away with Me is the debut studio album by Norah Jones, originally released in 2002. This was ok. Kinda better than I was expecting. Sure, it's very Starbucks-core. But it hits in the fall months. This album legit sounds like a Hallmark movie. It can get boring at times. The instrumentation is very jazz-influenced and sparse. Mostly just acoustic guitar with jazzy drums. The songwriting is a bit weak but for a pop record it suffices. Apparently this was mad popular when it first came out and even won a Grammy. I guess that makes sense since I've heard this type of music playing in nearly every store ever. That might be the problem I have with this record. It seems very manufactured for that exact purpose.

Quite dull. Don’t like her tone of voice much.

I’m not into jazz at all but I prefer this kind of jazz
