Reviews (page 7 of 13)

Not something I'd seek out but it was pleasant

Oude vrouwen wijn neuk muziek

this album is controversial because it reflects the peace and calmness of the elders while the youth labels it as "boring", older souls see it as relaxing to enjoy listening you have to free yourself from the daily rush

Just not my jam. I recognize she has a good voice but I just don’t dig it.

Chill mais un peu boring

Somehow familiar

I understand why its here after seeing how succesfull it is but i dont understand why it did that amazingly. Its ok dont get me wrong but its quite limited imo. Might do it for you if its your things but found it restricting

If this was playing live in a cafe I'd really like it. However, the slower numbers are not very interesting to me, although they arent bad

This definitely does evoke drinking red wine in a bar in the and I’m wearing a really thin sparkly scarf and I work at a local newspaper - it pays well obviously it’s 2004 or something - and I’m on a date with a handsome man also wearing a thin scarf (stripy) and we’re having a nice indulgent laugh about something. This is bland early 00s bar music and also I was a child then so this is all fiction and if I was a an adult during those times I still wouldn’t like this music sorry Norah, I’d be seeing broadcast live.

Reminds me of high school! Such a unique sound at the time, but an old sound at the same time.

Very chill. Norah Jones has a lovely voice, but I think I'd have to be in a very particular mood to enjoy this album without getting a little bored. It's nice in small doses, but just got a bit boring after a while

6/10 some good songs some songs r just sound

Norah Jones has some great vocals and most of her songs are pleasant to listen to. A good album.

A nice little album with a jazzy, classy, mellow sound, it was a decent listen. I think due to the album’s mood and similar sounding songs it can make the listen a little bit boring in parts. Still good music and I would definitely listen to individual songs again, but I don’t know about the whole album, it just didn’t inspire me lots to push this into a higher category above 3. Nevertheless, I still think this is a nice album and worthy of a good 3 stars, I would be interested to see what else she has to offer.

Relaxing dinner music. Liked this.

Very pleasant. I imagine this would be playing in the background at Dignitas while you have your last cocktail.

I get the comments about cafe shop music cos it was exactly that when the album came out. Good though

So, i listened to this while doing groceries and weirdly, it fit perfectly. This is perfectly decent, inoffensive background music. It’s pleasant enough to listen to but nothing really stands out.

Very talented but I'm not a big fan

I never would have considered listening to this album of my own accord. Norah Jones’ music always seemed to be music for your mother, so I never got curious. This is actually a really good album, very chilled out, good background music. Maybe mum was onto something afterall

It sounds great, but it all sounds the same.

This album was The Big News when it came out, and I was intrigued...so, dear reader, I bought it. Wondrously crafted, impeccably smooth, slightly country-ish and perfect for late night conversations with your beloved. But, like an over-retouched photograph of a past-it film actress, it's more about the craft of the musicians, engineers, producers, knob-twiddlers and sound-tweakers than the craft of Nora herself. TwentyFour years on...yup. Still think the same.

I’m surprised but a couple things. First off, I’m genuinely shocked Norah Jones is from Brooklyn and not somewhere in England. Secondly, I’m surprised I didn’t hate this. I recalled the album cover from my teenage years, I always saw it by the 5 disk CD player in the living room, scattered with The Tragically Hip, Van Morrison, Eagles but I didn’t recognize any tracks aside from the opener. It’s entirely possible that I don’t recall the tracks because it’s fairly unremarkable. The soft jazz and Jones’ vocals blend fairly well and it’s not bad, it’s a good background dinner album I suppose. I didn’t hate it, it’s just not my thing. 3 stars

The rating system for this project does not account for my mood while listening. I listen to all of these during my first hour on the job, and this particular hour I am tired after a bad night's sleep. This is an album to be listened to with a glass of wine while watching the sunset. Perhaps I'd like it more on a different day. 3 stars.

norah my love this was very sweet, no big complaints, just not quite a 4

Very nice but a bit slow for my taste

Norah Jones is one of those artists that continues to make interesting music despite coming hot right out of the gate. But she seems like a musician's musician; the kind of artist who gets together with others for the simple act of making music without an agenda. This is a great debut album but it's success put too high of expectations on follow up projects. She and this whole album deserve more than a Starbucks audience.

Sometimes her whisper-singing gets a little tiresome but her music seemed to reinvigorate vocal jazz standards in the culturally barren wastland that was the 2000s.

Silky, coffee shop jazz for lawn dress wearers.

It can feel a little monotone at times but I like it it’s pretty chill

liked a few tracks. overall, its a good mood.

Always liked Don’t Know Why and she’s got a good voice but nothing groundbreaking

The only think remarkable about this album is hoe quickly it became background noise and made no impact on me whatsoever. Completely inoffensive, but not bad. Mid 3.

2.75 If I were hosting a classy grown up dinner party with cocktails and cheese, I would definitely put this on as background music.

Great voice and some classic songs here. Not really my thing but no denying her smooth jazz vocals.

3 - Her voice is amazing. It makes me feel unsophisticated that I don't like this more.

This was a good album to wake up to. Nice and chill.

6/10 'Don't Know Why' is a stand out here. I like the super clean production and Norah's warm vocals. It's very much playing in the background at a cafe music, which is fine. It's just not overly interesting or profound. Best track: Don't Know Why Will I revisit: No

Sorry Norah… I like a few but I do feel like I’m always being lulled to sleep.

6.5/10

lovely bit of pop jazz

Destaques: Don't know why, Feelin' The Same Way

Not my thing but a standout album.

Great voice. Great album to listen to on a sleepy summer afternoon. Doesn’t inspire me much but in the right situation could be good.

A melancholic, mysterious album—I find it pleasant to listen to when it's raining, not when you're sick

Very chill — pretty, but perhaps a bit too relaxed for me.

Good musicianship and singing

Norah Jones does have an incredible and unique voice, and the session band is amazing. This is really nice album to listen to. A good mix of jazz/blues/folk genres. I will say that this album could easily pass me by in a day and just simply become background noise if I'm not in the right mood. I did catch it in the right mood today (a great soundtrack for a sunny, early spring day), so I was able to enjoy it for what it is. Top songs: 1. I've got to see you again (really cool tension in this song, that the rest of the album doesn't really have.) 2. Cold Cold heart (great Hank Williams song, and well covered) 3. Come away with me (the only one she wrote)

Sleep Away With Me

Very calm and peaceful. I really enjoy her voice. Don't Know Why and Painter's Song were my favorites. Fun to walk and ride the train to. 6.9/10.

Good coffee-shop singer-songwriter music. Nothing groundbreaking in my opinion. Lyrics and instrumentation are alright. Jones has a nice enough voice. There's a couple jazz and blues elements carried throughout the album that I enjoyed. I liked "Cold Cold Heart."

Like the Brit’s and britpop - when you grew up a certain time this album was just inescapable. The hits are absolutely incredible, but the rest of the album feels like sleepy filler just to get to the radio hits

Don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to this all the way through but often wanted to so here we go! It’s a pleasant enough easy listening/jazz album, but other than the singles, I’m not as taken as I thought I would be. Feel a little clean and standard, with little that particularly grabs or engaging me. Maybe quintessential background/coffee shop music. But maybe that does her a disservice 🤷🏻‍♂️ Think it’s an okay enough, middle of the road, not bad 3.5*

Good album, good singer, same song repeated for whole

Perfectly Cromulent

It was kind of a blues, kind of a country, kind of an alternative album. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite click with me.

Not my kind of music.

This is lovely isn't it. Coffee shop music but Norah has a great voice. Theres a reason why this is still played, still regarded, and why Norah Jones is still beloved. I wish there was more experimentation on this, but I'm not complaining. It's lovely.

nice but a bit forgettable for me. her voice was veering on cursive occasionally which was making my eye twitch but it wasn't bad enough to knock off another point.

Yeah it was good. Not really a lot of stand out moments for me. But pretty voice, pretty piano, pretty songs

Aivan mukavaa pehmyttä poppia/rokkia kovinkin hyvin laulettuna.

This album was inescapable at the time, and listening back you can see why - there was a shortage of genuinely capable, jazzy singers in pop, and Norah and Amy Winehouse filled those gaps. Compared to Amy, this is capable but sometimes bland. It's undeniably nice, but lacks the bite of a Tori Amos or Fiona Apple. Can't hate it, but no real desire to go back, and this definitely did not need a 3 volume 'every single outtake' version like you find on Tidal. Straight 3.

Fine. Killer voice.

Kind of interesting I just didn’t really get into it

Maybe a little too mellow at times for me but a good album overall.

I am very familiar with this album as I have listened to it for years. It's smooth and a solid listen for a low key environment. I love Norah's raspy voice but I didn't remember this last listen being as impactful as when I was younger. I think this go round I would give it a 3.5 but will give it a 3 for the app.

An album suited for background music, when one is studying, cooking, etc., it has a lot of jazz and folk elements.

She had a great voice but I could personally care less about this style of music. A lot of soft music with vocals leading. Very soft overall.

Idk it's fine, but early 00s white mom music doesn't really do it for me. It was calm at least, but meh

Exemplary 2000's soft rock, with instruments that almost aren't even there and a not-too-generic and also sorta bluesy white female vocalist. What a head trip it is to establish some of my earliest memories in elementary school listening to Norah Jones CDs in the classroom while performing constructive learning exercises, to now listening to the same album while I squander away the prime of my life 20 years later toiling away at my professional job in a sterile office space. My thanks to Norah for the nostalgia and the existential dread.

3/5. It's really good, well produced soft pop. It can be sophisticated, thoughtful, refined, raw, and still be identifiable with the rest of the album. It's impressive how the composers/arrangers manage to incorporate dissonance and jazz influences in a way that doesn't distract or disarm the songs. On the whole however, it's just sorta boring and lacks anything that makes it extremely unique. Case in point: I thought I knew who Norah Jones was and was excited because I thought I had several songs of hers already saved. Turns out there are other singers who fit this bill *so perfectly* that differentiating them takes effort. That would probably less so the case if Norah wrote her own songs, but most of them here are written by others. A bit sad when you find out that she's the daughter of musical legend Ravi Shankar. There's a bit of cosmic humor there — the world's foremost sitar player who changed the arc of Western music through his influence has a daughter who puts out some of the most generic sounding soul-pop out there. But it's still good soul-pop.

The title track came to mind as soon as I saw the album, and this was a recognizable name, but not one I’d necessarily say I’m a fan of. Much slower than what I’d normally seek out and quite frankly, boring.

It's mellow and smooth, that I cannot deny. But it makes me feel like it's time for a nap rather than listening to an album.

Like the voice. Sparse instrumentation means everything rests upon that voice. Still I am left wanting for a little more hook and variation.

Strong opening with Dont Know Why, setting the scene for a bluesy, jazzy, late night, laid back vibe Never heard the whole album until now, but I like about half of what I'm hearing

Was every song used to score a movie? Vibes that lean soulful, jazz?, country twang? Everything feels like a coffee shop hit! Solid album just starts to run together. I believe we get a violin in I’ve Got To See You Again. Do love the cord scratching in Lonestar. Don’t Know Why obviously a hit.

Would be good if you were sitting at a coffee shop somewhere. Pretty average. 6/10 Top songs: Don't know why Lonestar Come away with me Nightengale

A well played, well written album. Lacks replay value for my personal test but would still thoroughly recommend.

Favorite track(s): Don't Know Why, Come Away With Me, I've Got to See You Again

Pretty sleepy, which is maybe not what I needed today, but it's still good.

Se nota que fue un buen disco. No envejeció bien, medio aburrido

Come Away With Me 2002 erschien. Bekannte Titel wie „Don’t Know Why“, „Come Away With Me“ und „Turn Me On“ prägten den zurückhaltenden, bandorientierten Klang. Klavier, dezente Rhythmusgruppe und eine unaufdringliche Produktion auf Blue Note Records sorgen für eine intime Atmosphäre ohne technische Effekte in den Vordergrund zu stellen. Das Album wirkt geschlossen und ruhig, stellenweise fast konventionell, trägt aber durch die Stimme und das Songmaterial. Insgesamt ein stimmiges Debüt mit klarer Handschrift.

not my typical vibe has a few bops some of which i already knew. would listen to again if im in a coffee shop

Sounds nice. Smooth.

A master of her form, Norah Jones's jazzy tunes evoke all kinds of warmth: a family gathered round the fireplace at the holidays, or enjoying a crisp glass of wine with a lover on a summer evening. This album is kind of one-note, and when that note hits, it really hits ("Don't Know Why" and the title track, especially), but Norah can't sustain those highs over an entire record---few could. Much of the album blends together for me, and it is ultimately more of a 40-minute mood evoker than a great LP packed with memorable songs. This is generally how I feel about artists whose main contribution is the mastery of a vintage form. Beyond the beautiful performance of the 50s jazz style, what else is there here?

Feels like early 2000s Panera.

Day 2 — Norah Jones — Come Away With Me (2002) Listened: Feb 24, 2026 Genre: Jazz-Pop / Soft Soul / Adult Contemporary Vibe: Bluesy, jazzy, dreamy, soothing soul with a little country Highlights: • Don’t Know Why • Cold Cold Heart • Feelin’ The Same Way • Turn Me On Impression: Very dreamy, soothing vibe combining many favorite genres with the perfect voice for the overall vibe. Rating: 2.9/5 Keep songs? Yes Revisit album? Yes

I like her voice and production

This is smooth and for lack of a better word 'nice'. That isn't a bad thing. It's not exactly breaking ground or pushing any envelopes, but it is calming and has some gentle soul. Does not really make me feel very much beyond vaguely pleasant

Never heard of her. Don’t Know Why: 5/10 Seven Years: 5/10 Cold Cold Heart: 4/10 Feeling the Same Way: 5/10 Come away with me: 5/10 Shoot the moon: 5.5/10 Turn me on: 5.5/10 Lone star: 6/10 I’ve got to see you again: 5/10 Painter song: 5/10 One flight down: 5/10 Nightingale: 5/10 The Long Day is Over: 4/10 The nearness of you:5/10

She has such a great voice, and the arrangements are smartly (and beautifully) spare to let it shine. Unfairly gets a bad rap as Starbucks music, but this is a very nice easy listening record. It's one-note, sure, but that one note is cozy and warm.

Chill Sunday vibe I like it - vinyl cop

This an artist I've been aware of but couldn't have told you anything they sang. I quite enjoyed listening through this one, it's got a real dream-like quality to it. This would be a fun one to pick up on vinyl.

Liked it more than I thought I would while going on a walk. I remembered it being kind of slow, monotonous, and boring, but the voice really carries it.

This is a very good record. Not great, but very good. Nice background music for a dinner party or just lazing around the house

Listening session: february 20th, while going for a walk Listened to before: listened to a few songs before Thoughts: I love Norah Jones’ voice and this album is really relaxing but I wouldn’t see myself listening to this other than on the background Favourite tracks: Don’t Know Why, Come Away With Me & The Nearness Of You

cozy jazzy pop for a rainy day

5.5/10 the nostalgia was nostalgic but not really for me. Very nice though!

Beautiful voice but the album kind of lost me halfway through. Don’t Know Why is one of my favorite songs but after that in the lead off spot I found myself losing focus. A couple of beautiful songs but as a full project I’m not super convinced.

2026.02.17.

Helt greit.

Kunne særligt godt lide: - Come away with me - Cold cold heart

This album balances beauty and boredom in equal measure. While it has its moments of brilliance, it falls way short, succumbing to the curse of mediocrity towards the end. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Seven Years - Come Away With Me - Turn Me On

Middle of the road stuff easy listening, good background music. Nothing to get excited about, but I didn't hate it. Need get a bit bored by the end.

I really like 'Painter Song' and 'Nightingale'. Very relaxing and the melodies were very sweet. Norah Jones's vocals are beautiful.

The singles are great, the rest is pretty boring unfortunately. Super chill but pretty forgettable.

It’s easy listening but it’s honestly quite good. Her voice works so well with the instrumentation.

easy on the ears

Good album. Solid compositions and production. Nothing terribly exciting, but not every album needs to be a revolution. Sit and relax...

Top tier starbucks music

Very talented and the first album is great but the outtake stuff was just filler

I'm so sorry Norah. Great voice, very soothing, very chill, but this is background music in a restaurant at best. I really wanted to love it, but yeah... This does nothing for me at all

Well-made album, but I fear it's a bit too slow for my personal liking.

Beautiful voice; not my usual style. Would give 3.5 if possible.

Not really my thing but some nostalgia points

Strong contender for 4 stars, but couldnT because of my lack of engagement with it. An easy, enjoyable listen, but not more than that

Chill coffee shop vibes. I enjoyed it and had a nice, mellow morning.

Pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed this

this is such middle aged woman antique shop owner core. this album would go hard at simply perfect pieces

my mom loves this and I love her so. it’s hard

I like Norah jones but a full album of her slow ass music makes me want to kill myself

Lite kluven.

I don't want to sound harsh in any review unless it's truly warranted, but this truly feels like the textbook definition of "background music." It feels simplistic and cookie-cutter. Now the cool thing is, is that can be a positive thing or a negative thing depending on the person who listens to this. Unfortunately in my case, it's just not what I'm looking for in the project. I understand the demographic of the average person enjoying this and buying it to have in their CD collection, but third-best selling album of the 21st century is crazy to me. I'm sure if she pushed the envelope more in genre in any other albums, I'd be interested, because she clearly has the talent to do so if she wanted to.

Nothing really memorable. It's more something to background.

It's easy to hear why this was such a massive hit. And also easy to understand why it's not really an album that comes readily to mind after over two decades. On other reviews, I've mentioned how disturbingly common big albums by beautiful women with tremendous voices who later seemed to become largely forgotten are. Unfortunately, Norah seems to fit in that category. Beautiful songs, simply arranged and wonderfully performed, but certainly nothing to challenge your perceptions of what is musically possible. Best just to mellow out, listen, enjoy . . . and pretty immediately forget.

Very easy, a little too easy. I hear this and I have sense memories of Starbucks, scented candles, beige, Oprah, khakis, etc Don’t now why is a modern American standard I’ll give it that

no my tempo

I’m new to vocal jazz so it’ll probably grow on me

Her voice sounds like it’s always going to be a Christmas album

Pretty music. Pretty voice. Pretty dull.

☕️

Good smooth album but not the best she did from my point of view. Song I like: Don’t know why

i like the music and the rhythm of the songs. it sounds modern and gives off "falling" vibes. very cute

I liked this more than I expected to, given my memories of the singles as being bland radio play. She’s better than the singles would suggest. I like the Smokey jazz lounge vibes. My main critique: the album contains too many tracks and would benefit from some trimming.

Don’t know why was definitely the stand out, overall it had a nice feeling of early 2000s nostalgia

I had the idea this was a jazz album. There is some jazz on it but also blues and country. Overall it is a very pleasant set of easy listening songs, nothing challenging here.

I'm struggling to understand how I've never heard of Norah Jones before. It's not my favorite kind of music, but reading into who she is, the successes she's had, and from what time period she had it, it's strange that this is my introduction. But outside of that -- It seems a purposeful and soulful record. She's certainly a good singer, though I must admit the vocal style seems like a precursor to cursive singing. It's not all the way there so it's fine, but there are elements. I think the instrumental is kinda lack luster. It could do a lot more to accompany the melody on a lot of these songs. It only does just barely enough to make a place for a melody to go, which is okay but I wish it did more. It seems like a catalogue of first dance songs, which maybe was the goal, but 14 consecutive love songs was quite a bit too much for me. Not a dynamic album. It's sweet and nice and that's about it for all 45 minutes. It think Nightingale is the best of what this album does. The backing track does like 25% more and makes the song much more of an experience than most of the album. 2.9/5

Leuk. Deftig en charmant.

Nice and relaxing music. Beautiful vocals!

Singing is good, production is awesome with really warm sounds of piano and double bass. The songs are diverse, but all of them are so mellow and it feels that dynamics of music haven't changed throughout the whole thing, so it was tiring listen.

The earliest edition of the book is showing its age here. At the time, this kind of piano singer-songwriter stuff like Alicia Keys and Ben Folds was the primo-deluxe shit, but now it's very much just a trend of the early 00s that came and went. The songs on this are nice and relaxing, but not really anything all that good. I think it's more interesting how this album won 5 Grammys, yet now it seems to almost be forgotten.

“Turn Me On” was excellent and other than that this album was a little meh but still decent

mcdonald's music

first song banger but i got a bit bored probably cause i was revising at the time

Some nice songs but not my genre and a little boring

Sweet, chill, coffee shop vibes. But still cuts a little to close to muzak for my taste perhaps that's just remembering this type of stuff playing in retail contexts. 3/5. Sounds nice at least.

Does what it sets out to do well, be lounge music. It's a pleasant listen in the background but not something I'd seek out again in my own time. No complaints if it was playing in a public space though

Some classics on this album - can’t go past ‘Don’t Know Why’ and ‘Come Away With Me’! But the rest of the album was pretty samey and not too memorable. A nice listen but not groundbreaking

It's funny that we got this right after the very similar K.D. Lang album yesterday. The songwriting is a little better, the voice different, but the vibe is very similar. I think this album got such a positive review on release because it was a breath of relaxing positivity, and the return of not so generic pop music to, well, pop music. At least in America, this came out after an absolute mess of a year where everything changed and the whole country, and ultimately the world, got demonstrably worse. This is unchallenging, smooth, and comforting music. People needed that. Now that we're all numb to everything because everything has gone to shit, it doesn't sound quite as innovative or needed. That isn't to say that it isn't good. She's a great singer and the laid back instrumentals mostly stay in the pop-jazz/contemporary singer songwriter world. There's a little Texas-twang in here but I wouldnt' call any of it country music, not even "Lonestar". This makes it accessible to more people, and in turn more accessible for plaudits. Overall it makes for an easy listen. Something you put on when you are doing something else and need a little warmth in the activity. I think this was good but it's a very situational record.

In which an undeniably talent vocalist sings a bunch of songs that feel scientifically design to leave my brain without a trace the moment they are done.

will this album blow anyone's mind, no of course not, is her voice amazing, YES. random memory of someone on my school's Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award trip singing Norah Jones songs as we walked along the coast in the south of England with our massive rucksacks and our Pot Noodles. we accidentally walked 9km in the wrong direction and had to be picked up in a minibus but we still got the award.

Lovely voice, beautiful songs, the best thing that could be playing when you walk into a coffee shop. What else would you expect from ravi Shankar’s daughter?(!)

Most unexpected lyric: “[…] die in ecstasy.” Not too unexpected lyric: “[… ] feelin’ the same way all over again.” The latter very aptly explains my emotions toward this collection of songs, because I would have wished for more of the former. Not dying, of course, but some more ecstasy would have been nice. While the album flows (occasionally) quite beautifully, an occasional upping of the BPM would have provided some much-needed variation. Regrettably, the record sometimes sounds like expensive session musicians making music for rich people to dine to. Yeah, I know this is unfair and maybe incorrect. However, I will gladly acknowledge this: the minds involved knew how to write intriguing melodies, and Norah’s voice is incredible - incredibly smooth, with pitch that is just… wow. Oh, to have a voice like this. Unfortunately, it's the steady mid-tempo mélange of jazz and soft rock/pop, country, and blues-y figures that doesn’t do much for me. Those marketing jerks would probably label "Come Away With Me" as “music like a warm blanket to wrap around you on a rainy autumn day.” Now, it’s incredibly cold in Europe these days, and I actually do want to hide under my sheets and call it a day - so that blanket-ness earns a bonus point today.

Väldigt fint. Lite mycket mellanmjölk bitvis.

Relaxing for my travel day

I liked this album, especially the jazzier parts. I usually have headphones on at Starbucks, so listening to this for the first time lol (but tbh I probably would've tuned this out if I heard it in public)

This album is not what I usually listen to. But it is very relaxing and subtly technical. And Jones’s voice is magnificent.

The first song is really sweet but it’s just another one hit album

Very soft album

It's good, but I don't know if I would want to listen to it again. favorite track is the title track

Classy piano music by a hot woman. How bad could it be?

I like her voice and it fits perfectly into the style of songs she writes, but when it's this incredibly mellow I just find it hard to stay attentive to it

Weird that she’s Ravi Shankar’s daughter. Anands Shankar from two days ago is her cousin (he’s Ravi’s nephew). This was fine — nothing I need to hear again. Thought she would have written more of these.

Liked the songs I knew (don’t know why, come away with me, shoot the moon), didn’t love anything else. Easy listening.

What a voice!

I can appreciate the talent, but not something I would put on for my listening pleasure

GOING IN: No strong feelings LISTENED WHILE: chillin' at home FAMILIARITY: Listened to it many times SKIP RATE: Played it straight through REPLAY VALUE: Might come back to it DISCOVERY CURVE: Warmed up nicely ALBUM ARC: Strong start, tailed off VERDICT: Fair enough BODY'S VERDICT: Sitting nicely - Motionless appreciation FAVOURITE TRACK: My Rating: 3

Simpático.

161/1089 5 seconds into the first track… “oooh THAT’S Norah Jones”, nice and chill 00s singer-songwriter vibe it was a nice album, quite good movie-soundtrack-esque bg music. I think it would’ve been greatly elevated if 1 or 2 of the track were more uptempo and varied because it did kind of stay at the same level for the whole runtime. faves: Nightingale, Shoot The Moon, I’ve Got To See You Again, Feelin’ The Same Way, Don’t Know Why 60/100

Soft. Subtle. Straight down the line.

This album is right on the edge. Some tracks are beautiful while others tip over into the pure schmaltz.

I've known _of_ Norah Jones for a long time, but always thought of her as yet another pop musician, maybe more in the singer/songwriter style as Kate Bush or Tori Amos, but anyway. Imagine my surprise to listening to a talented jazz singer, or one that sounds like one to me, vocalize her way through emotions and even reactions. While the music is not my favourite, not even in the top 10 styles of music, I can see myself listening to this album in a very specific instance and quite enjoying myself. It is very pretty.

Not bad, mellow

6/10 Feels like autumn, decent I know this is Jazz and is supposed to be slow but at times the slowness feels more like emptiness

/5 Stars Top Songs: Come Away With Me, Nightingale, Seven Years,

Norah has such a lovely voice. While some of the album ran into each other I still found it pleasant. I had never heard track 9: I've got to see you again and I really loved it. I probably wouldn't put this in my regular rotation but I appreciate it.

Just a nice album.

Wirklich noch nie zuvor gehört, aber mal was anderes. Gefällt mir :)

Norah Jones’ voice is amazing. The songs are just kinda ok.

Not exactly my kind of music but I enjoyed one song enough to like it

Don't normally love the genre, but this is the best of it. Great background music and incredible vocals. Not sure I would relisten except if I was trying to focus on work, but really enjoyed despite not usually being my thing. Opening track obviously amazing.

this is nice. jazzy and calming. what's the balance with having some stand out tracks with some fillers versus everything just sounding the same?

Lovely voice, quite calm music, but not my style

This is what happens when country and smooth jazz come together. I am really not surprised that it has been the soundtrack to hundreds of dinner parties.

I know this one already, so will likely skip

Nice for listening to in coffee shop on the early 2000 but a little tame for my taste . Great voice , nice playing on nice songs . Nice but nothing more

i liked it

The only album so far that I do have on CD... This album carries a lot of nostalgia for me, even if it does get a bit tedious at times. If this came on in a coffee shop, I would smile and think of my mom. It's funny to think that when this came out, it was treated as the only album in the world. Don't Know Why is a basic choice but it is the only song that truly stands out even after YEARS of listening.

I recognize the first song. Its ok, not my music, but probably nice in a coffee shop or bookstore.

Ah. Bomo vidl. Spomnim se, ko je album izšel, takrat mi itak ni bla všeč taka muska. S prve zarad tega poznam prvi, "Don't Know Why" in pa seveda najbolj znani komad, "Come Away With Me". Mi je pa "Come Away With Me" še zmer brutalno preveč chill in počasen. "I've Got to See You Again" mi je kul. In to ni moj vajb.

2/3. This album sounds as pretty as Norah Jones looks. It's all very much in one mood and theme (love, longing, heartbreak, etc.), so definitely not something to put on all the time, but her voice is incredible, the instrumentation is soothing and exciting at the same time, and generally speaking this just sounded great. Great lyrics too.

norah has a really pleasant voice and the album is not bad to listen to, but this album has really never done anything for me. this was in heavy rotation in my parents' car when i was a kid and outside of 'don't know why,' this album is so MOR that i can't help but feel apathetic about it. it's nice and pleasant, but that's about it. it's not mindblowing or innovative in any way. it's inoffensive. that's really all i can say.

This is a hell of a debut album, especially for her to be 23. It was a relaxing listen, she’s got a really nice voice. Not really my type of music so I doubt I’ll go back to it but it was nice to have as background music while I was working

Aggressively normal vocal jazz

Nice voice. Untaxing listen. perfect background music for pottering around

This another one I've never heard of before and therefore had no expectations... or so I thought. But this album made me feel odd, like I'm sitting in the back of the car on a long drive with my mother behind the wheel sort of strange. It feels like that, like a drive in the snow or even like watching a beautiful woman sing at a ballroom, just gentle yet elegant. It does have an aggressively early 2000 vibe and I imagine you'd have heard this in every coffee and perfume shop for a little while. Singer songwriter continues to be a personal favourite genre, it's so deeply intimate and tender and the album is the perfect length for that sort of feel but to recency it does mean I want to give direct comparison to Tracy Chapman, and in that instance I'd say this album has lower peaks but is more consistent, but it's also like 25 years later and that accounts for something. I wouldn't ever dare say this album is boring, but I can't particularly sing its praises either as it's absolutely a nice chill listen but it's not particularly exciting. As said before, nothing wrong with that but in this instance it's difficult. I wouldn't necessarily seek this out but I also wouldn't skip any songs which places is in a weird scenario in this list where a lot of these albums are immensely influential and weird and different this is just... not. It's going to be a 3 star but as of this point this is the most I've enjoyed a 3 star album but it's just not got enough interest for me to really consider it's influence properly. Best songs: Don't Know Why, Shoot The Moon Worst song: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 16/19 (Below Daydream Nation, above This Year's Model)

Don't know why was my favorite. I really love Norah Jones, but her voice and vibe were a little slow and sleepy for me, especially at this point my my life, I need something more hype to keep me awake.

Very middle of the road and just fine. It’s alright enough to just kinda have on, but it’s also not very interesting. I made the mistake of listening to an Abbey Lincoln song halfway through to remind myself how other actual jazz singing is, and it made it nearly impossible to come back to Norah Jones. She just isn’t anywhere near the same level

Beautiful voice, fine in the background of a homey coffee shop or something, but most of this really does nothing for me. 2.5/5 I think I have to round this up. It’s exactly middle-of-the-road, milquetoast nonsense, but I don’t hate it. It’s not good, but the production is tight, her musicians are good, her voice is nice. But oh my gosh, the songwriting is so boring. I don’t want to give it three stars, but it’s not a 2-star record at all either.

good voice, so minimum 3

This was pleasant to listen to but I didn’t save anything. Strong 3.

Norah Jones does come to her precocious jazz stylings honestly, and her piano and smooth as silk voice are as inoffensive as any happy hour at a cocktail bar. But the energy and edge of youth is missing for me on this record. It’s bland and forgettable, background chill for the masses.

Easy listening and she has a great voice. Some of the slower, more basic, pop-tinged numbers are not good, but they're forgivable. Also, it's possible to write a review of this album without mentioning coffee houses. 3.0/5.0: Good

i knew the name but wouldnt have been able to tell you a single song by her. i immediately recognized the first song and realized this would be a long 45 minutes. she has a beautiful voice and the songs are soothing to listen to. it makes for very good background music but i struggle to imagine someone actively listening to this for pleasure.

It is fine, but nothing really grabbed me. I really like the pianist.

Overall a pleasant, if boring album. Norah Jones propped up her career at the right time as corporate coffee shops became big and wanted to promote an environment where you can think or be in a calm place while drinking your overpriced caffeinated beverage and or a sweet pastry. Very uncontroversial and safe, especially after 9/11. This isn't my thing, but it's probably a lot of other peoples thing, the pop minded folks or the boring corporate legal/other world types. I like my music more rock-focused or crazy, none of that is here. Some good instrumental parts are here, but again this just isn't music for me, but definitely has that wide appeal that works so well. Norah is clearly talented (and comes from a music family) and it shows here.

I once shoved a guy at a Sharon Van Etten concert cuz after Norah Jones came out as a surprise guest he wouldn’t put his phone down just started recording the entire concert and I got tired of the bright phone light in my line of sight. Shoving him was probably taking things a step too far but it sorta makes me laugh now. Anyway, the album has mass appeal. Nothing wrong with that.

Norah Jones is a fantastic jazz vocalist. Don't Know Why will always be a classic for me.

Lovely voice, great background album

Музика під настрій, хоча Don't Know Why і Turn Me On зі мною більшу частину мого свідомого життя.

Another glorious late night album.

More enjoyable than I thought it would be

A bit dull but nice enough

It was nice for a quiet morning. A bit nostalgic.

Jones has a beautiful voice and the jazzy arrangements are tasteful. The songs are not memorable though and the pace is very, very mellow. It would be nice music to chill out to but I need something with a little more oomph. So it gets a 3/5.

Nice and relaxing but also kind of boring and every song sounded the same. Decent background music

Chill vibes and very pleasant silky voice Tracks to Track: Come Away With Me

*2002. *I didn’t know Nora was Ravi Shankar’s daughter. Huh. *I want to like her, but she feels like a female Jack Johnson - like it should be interesting and compelling, but it’s just not. *Come Away With Me always makes me thinks of Alli though, so Nora gets points for that. *Pleasant enough music, but just not memorable. RATING - 6.5/10

It was p good!

It's pleasant, but not earth shatteringly amazing. 3.49 stars

“Come Away With Me” by Norah Jones is easy listening par excellence—the question is whether that's a good or a bad thing. Personally, I prefer easy listening music that rewards closer listening with subtle surprises that remain hidden to the casual listener. Maybe I'm wrong (because I haven't listened to every second of this record closely), but I don't think Norah Jones delivers these exciting details. On the other hand, she manages not to become boring in the background. So I might even keep this album as background music that doesn't require attention, but it will most likely go unnoticed there. Still not sure what to call this. Calm music without any further properties?

Pleasant, inoffensive, but a little dull. 2006 Starbucks core

Soothing background music. She has a beautiful voice but probably best enjoyed at the end of a long day, under a blanket, nodding off to sleep. You have to be in the right mood and atmosphere for this.

Music for divorcees to enjoy while they sip overpriced lattes at Starbucks.

This album brings me back to a very specific time in my life. I played horn in the pit band when my high school performed the musical Bye Bye Birdie and the drama teacher played Norah Jones every night in the auditorium before the show started. The music is not even remotely similar to the BBB tunes, so I think the drama teacher was just a big fan of this album. This is a pleasant album that gives early 2000s coffee shop vibes. I wasn't feeling it at first, but the music really grew on me as I listened through. All of the songs from Come Away With Me to Painter Song I particularly enjoyed. The music feels warm and inviting. It's not the most musically interesting, but it has its charm. 7/10.

Haven't listened to this for a while. A tremendous performer who i think has been ruined by the music industry giving her poor material. This album is great but it's disappointing by lack of follow up

Thoroughly nice LP if ever so slightly bland, if it were ice cream it would be vanilla, pizza it would be Margherita and crisps it would be ready salted.

Very soft a chill. Kind of mid

Pleasant listen, not really my thing though. Probably won’t listen again

It’s fine

Be tos pirmos dainos, visos kitos meh. Labai gražus balsas.

Smooth pis jazzy, ça coule doux dans mes oreilles

It's a fine album. Standard contemporary jazz. Good for sipping coffee at the cafe, by the fire. Pretty but not for me.

Listened to this album a lot as a kid. It represents coziness, romances, and happiness to me. When I say I like slow jazz, this is what I mean. Come Away with Me and Nightengale are some of my fav songs ever. Such beautiful songs.

Pleasant, well-made music, it feels a bit distant, not really rooted to a particular time or person. Disliked the faux-country of ‘Lonestar’. Liked the use of the phrase ‘bag of bones’ in ‘Don’t Know Why’.

I actually expected to like this more than I did. I guess memory is fonder the older it is. Upon re-listening, I find that she has a good voice, although it does get on your nerves after a few songs. I'll give it three stars but I can't do any more than that. It really is like being in a Starbucks.

Inoffensive, easy-listening.

What would Coffee House radio on Sirius XM be without this album. So many restaurants and cafes have used this album to welcome in guests as they wait for the chance to play holiday music. At the end of the day it’s a smooth album with a few bangers (Hank Williams cover, I’ve got to see you again).

It's fine. 3.6.

Of all the 3-star ratings I have ever given, this one is by far the three-est.

Decent listen, found myself zoning out halfway through

I imagine her voice would be absolutely captivating if I heard it live. But when listening to the recording, it sometimes feels like pleasant background music you’d hear in a cozy café — beautiful, yet a bit too safe.

Not as impressed with the overall album.

Norah Jones has a beautiful, warm voice — probably the main reason 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘔𝘦 became such a phenomenon. The album’s smooth blend of jazz, pop, and folk is easy to like but can feel a bit samey and sleepy over time. Lovely background music, though not something I’d return to often.

Its good music, just not what I listen to. Her voice is pleasant.

I typed a whole thing about it and it just deleted… anyways, first album I’ve heard. Great for ambiance during a nice dinner. Lots of singer/songwriter/folk sounds with surprising touches of light jazz and a country twang at some points. Only problem is that it becomes pretty repetitive after the first few songs. Each song takes a similar down-tempo sound that makes it kind of hard to tell each song apart. Overall, pretty good first album to start off the 1001 album journey. Will 100% be adding into a morning mix and be revisiting in the future. 3/5 just because it’s not necessarily bad, but it becomes very repetitive .

Copy from my review earlier of this: Really good singing and playing here just not my usual music genre. 3/5

Good album. It's not 100% my jam but enjoyable enough.

Possibly too adult contemporary for some but if you can't at least appreciate the musicianship on display here then you might have ADD.

Easy listening, enjoyed the relaxed vibe but definitely some bed time music

1. I’ve apparently heard of her (via liked songs), but only a fairly recent song she put out in 19’ 2. Was listening to the start of this on the way to the airport and her initial response was “Oh you won’t like this” because it’s all slow singing you’d fall asleep to 😂 3. Feelin’ The Same Way is more upbeat than the first few, currently my fav on the album 4. This feels like songs you’d listen to at a Jazz Bar in New Orleans or something 5. The songs are very same-y, but overall her voice is phenomenal

Hallmark holiday soundtrack. Smooth jazz. Kind of dragged on towards the end of the album.

Starbucks is not Norah Jones's fault. This album creates a cool musical place, that was coopted by real places that desperately wanted to seem cool. Music can be good even when the wrong people like it.

Ay no Nota: 2.7

tout doux c’est cool

I was 5 years old when this album came out. When I put it on, it took me back to sitting in the back of my mum’s car falling asleep on a long car journey.

6/10 Favourite: Come Away With Me Least Favourite: Lonestar

The queen of background café music! I am somewhat self-aware that this might be read by others on 1001 albums generator, but could not resist making the comment. Surely there's a lot of craft and thought gone behind the tracks, and they do sound lovely. But I can't help but feel she's an artist that has been put by default in any starbucks or café wanting to promote a chill vibe. Or anyone trying to create a cosy environment for their semi-pretentious, semi-expensive wine fuelled dinner party. Which spoils the music a little in a sense. All of this needless context aside, I wouldn't call it my first choice of music, as I tend to gravitate towards music that tries to grab your attention a bit more. Even the jazz/soul territory, I think there are albums more compelling that Come Away With Me. But she's a talent and the songs are pretty tight.

Unnormal entspannt. Hat bisschen was von jazz auch

Me guardo "Don't know why" y "Shoot the moon".

Not my style but musically good and I like her voice.

2,5-3/5 nice and peaceful. a bit too slowpaced for my liking but quite enjoyable. Her voice is very smooth. Maybe a bit too smooth which makes it sometimes a bit boring but I can see why people love it so much.

Yesterday I had Liz Phair - off-pitch voice, offensive lyrics, underproduced. Today Norah Jones - phantastic voice but painfully inoffensive. Thing is - for both women there seems to be something under the surface. Norah Jones is not JUST smooth, there are moments where her character shines through. But the work it takes to get through that pretty facade - I gave up after 1.5 listens.

I think it’s really good, but not revolutionary in any way particularly - not necessarily a must hear for me, but definitely an enjoyable listen.

Lovely voice, this was just a bit too samey and dull. The comparatively more upbeat songs pulled it to a 3. It has a time and place but I'm not going to revisit.

The epitome of Starbucks music. I never patronize that place nor have I worked there but I have a feeling you'd get sick of hearing this if you had the displeasure of working there circa 2002. Turn Me On sounds a lot like Please Come for Christmas. There's some nice melodies, but I can't imagine throwing this on as anything more than background music.

Pleasant and relaxing album. A bit bluesy, a bit jazzy, a bit folky, and she's got an amazing voice. Unfortunately, it does all start sounding the same and it kind of drags on by the end. I did enjoy it, but I’m not going to return to it unless I'm looking for some calm background music to create a relaxing atmosphere for something

Smooth voice.

Some bops but a very slow album as per her style. Just listened

Pretty pleasant.

Lo tengo que por aun

70/100 favourite track - "Come Away With Me" least favourite track - none (they're all extremely consistent in quality)

it's fine

coffee shop vibes in the 2010s

another 90s jam 3.5/5

Really not for me. Nice voice though. It's not unpleasant in the background

She had such a great voice and was a nice break from mainstream music at the time.

Album 20/1001 This might be my old age speaking, but that was more relaxing than drifting off with a cat kneading softly on your lap, purring in time with the crackle of a warm open fire, petrichor drifting through the window, while the patter of rain and the growls of thunder fill the room with tranquil warmth. Utterly delightful. 😌 3 ½ / 5

I had always kind of dismissed Norah Jones at the time this came out as being a bit bland, and middle of the road when it was popular when I was in my early 20s. I liked the record she made with Billie Joe from Green Day on a bunch of traditional songs and it helped me appreciate her voice more. My favourite track was I've Got To See You Again. Also shout out to Norah's podcast where she invites on musical guests: there's a brilliant acoustic version of Sea of Love with The National from a couple of years ago.
