The piano is nice
Fine voice.
Singer/songwriter meets jazz piano for nice chill background songs. I love the tone of her voice. Unfortunately, it’s become standard “Starbucks music” but that shouldn’t take away from the album, which was hugely popular when it first debuted. 3⭐️
A moody little record indeed. I thought I would recognize the big songs on here but I don't. Must have been a blind spot for me. I find most of this charming but a bit soulless. Also feels really long for only 45 minutes. Favourite track: Painter Song
I like the slide and other guitar work on some. But man, it is sleepy. All jazz and jazz adjacent musicians of the last couple decades should be put on Charlie Parker's drug regimen, and get some mf pep in their tunes.

One of the first things I saw when I was searching this album was a playlist titled “Coffee Shop Mix”, and that’s a pretty apt description. Nice and soft, with guitar, piano, strings, and a nice smoky voice to tie it all together. A perfectly listenable album.

Enjoyed it

i like mellow stuff. yea. if you told me this was mazzy star, i might believe you for a solid 22 seconds
This is nice relaxing music for a lazy morning. 🙂
A pretty good listen. It's pretty drawn-out and one-note at times, but she is an amazing vocalist. 3/5
It was fine. Nice, like a warm breeze. White women everywhere probably like it. Would be nice to make dinner to probably. Almost fell asleep
some kind of country jazz?
Such a beautiful voice. I remember this album was huge when I was growing up, my father used to play it all the time while ironing. Nice memories. The album is good, the artist is competent, and it’s all nice and warm and polite. But it quickly becomes boring. I mean it’s perfect to put it on In the background during a cozy evening at home. But on its own, it quickly loses its appeal.
Great voice, talented band, but the songwriting is generic and the production is pop 101
Don't Know Why is a strong song. I was sick. This was a pretty good album to listen to when your head is achy and full of snot. It's probably good when you're healthy, too, but it worked for me. I'm a little better today. Coincidence?
She has an amazing voice, but I never felt compelled to listen to this album. After listening, that instinct was correct. The source material is all derivative and frankly a bit boring. This did inspire me to go back and relisten to Little Broken Hearts, a Jones album about ten years newer and much more interesting.
Like John Mayer and Jack Johnson but a much more feminine sound. Great voice, soft music, great study music.
Very chill, not much else to say
It's all very competently played, with a very unexcited, laid back attitude and atmosphere. Which makes it perfect to play in the background while sitting in a café, or while having a wine with your significant other and reminiscing. It ultimately also makes the whole album a tad boring.
enjoyable
Lekker albumpje voor in de ochtend
Generic Starbucks easy listening music but I unapologetically like it. It's some bullshit I can put in the background while I answer emails and that's fine, I enjoyed it as that. There were some pretty groovy bass lines in here too.
Bland, but relaxing
'Come Away With Me' is a pleasant enough album. I listened while watching the rain out of my window, which was very fitting. I don't think that Norah Jones necessarily broke any boundaries with this album, but it's a nice, relaxing jazz standards record and sometimes it's just what you need. It was released by the legendary Blue Note record label, which had released albums from many of the greatest names in jazz, including Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and Dizzy Gillespie, among many others. I don't have much in particular to comment about this album, except to say that she certainly has a beautiful voice. Great music for a coffee shop or rainy afternoon.
Pretty chill listen. I did enjoy listening to this. Her voice is pretty good and I didn’t realize I actually knew a couple of these songs ahead of time. Probably won’t revisit it. Favorite songs were Don’t Know Why, Come Away With Me, and Painter Song.
Really good! She is clearly very talented and has an awesome sound. She has the type of voice that would improve anything. I think the stand out song was the first song. The rest of the album was pleasant but didn’t really grab me to the same extent. I really do appreciate her melancholy sound though. High 3 or a low 4.
sehr ruhig, etwas für kalte Abende am Kamin ;-)
I actually think this is a 2.5 "Don't Know Why" is leaps and bounds ahead of everything else on the album IMO.
some of the instrumentation was cool and her voice was beautiful but overall it was pretty uninteresting. i respect it and i can see why someone would love it but its just not for me at all.
Norah Jones has a nice voice. The album gets a bit boring at times though, but it's mostly because the mood doesn't change a lot.
...
I thought I would enjoy it more, but it was a little too contemporary for me.
Pleasant but a bit too smooth
Beautiful voice. Every song. I understand why this was so highly received and she won Grammys. Just not my type of music. Be happy to listen to in the background of a cocktail party or coffee shop. 3.25
Have heard the album a few times. Beautiful voice. Nice arrangements. Can't figure out why I don't like it more. Maybe it needs just a little more edge, or verve, or something. A soft 3 stars. "Does it seem like I'm looking for an answer"
Klingt alles gleich aber nett zum loungen
Fine
Nice easy listening album and quite chilled, but no stand out tracks
Very talented, just not my kind of music
makes me feel like i am a white kindergarten mom in 2004. 3/5
This was good enough I guess, but I wasn't really feeling it. I don't see myself listening to any of these songs again. high 3.
6/10 - It was kind of boring. I was pretty distracted the whole time tbh. We were making chatgpt sing random songs in baby voice. It was pretty funny. The songs sounded pretty similar so if you like the sound youll like the album.
Great lounge music. Wonderful voice. Most of the album doesn't hold up to the hits
This was fine. It was nice and light and unobjectionable. I was obsessed with my mp3 of "Don't Know Why" in the early Kazaa years, but I ... don't.... know ..... why ..... I didn't download the whole thing.
Ciekawa płyta, ale mocno popowa. Nie więcej niż 3/5. Najlepszy utwór to Turn me on, chociaż on mi się z czymś innym kojarzył więc może dlatego.
This album almost made me go back to sleep. Pretty vocals, just kind of a drag. 3.1 stars
Her voice is so beautiful but as an album it is kind of boring overall in my opinion. I would probably only listen to a few of the songs ever again.
This back-to-back with Aqualung is a unique experience. If they hadn't lined up I'd never have noticed they were opposites. This is easy to listen to, makes sense, you can drift in and out of, and does nothing wrong. Aqualung is a bit all over the place and if anything gets confusing to listen to at times. I prefer Aqualung but I get why people want to listen to this. She can sing and it's peaceful. There's talent here for sure but I'm now blown away.
Norah is talented and has a very nice voice. The production is solid. Seven Years has a little Sitar sounding bit that makes a connection to her famous father's sound. A pleasant Hank Williams cover of Cold Cold Heart Unfortunately, I wouldn't listen to this much personally, but it is pleasant to take a nap to.
I remember this one being a huge success and all the talk when it was released. She singlehandedly put piano torch songs back on the radio. There are no bad songs and two or three classics that still get a lot of airplay. "Don't Know Why" & "Turn Me On" are both sexy, catchy and put her on the map! "Come Away With Me" is a love song that you hear at weddings all the time. While there is some filler (bordering on boring) and the pace is slow from start to finish, it's an enjoyable album. If you're a fan you get your money's worth with 14 songs. Groundbreaking, no, but definitely influential and popular.
Apart from a few songs the album felt a bit dull, like many of the tracks were just filler. Still 3 stars because don't know why is a great song.
too straight
Perfectly listenable, kinda boring
One trick pony as far as soft cafe rock is concerned. She had a lovely, raspy voice and the lyrics are cliche, but not terrible. Just well performed boring love songs.
Here's an early 00's classic. The kind of album that was always on in coffee shops or in the morning as you sip your coffee staring out at the world. Very easy listening.
Norah Jones has a great voice, this was a nice, relaxing album. Nothing really spectacular or groundbreaking that stuck out to me, but a smooth and enjoyable ride. Good album. Favorite tracks: Don't Know Why, Shoot the Moon, Nightingale. Album art: I've seen this one many times, it's just a portrait/profile shot of Norah, but its ubiquity has almost rendered it a classic for me. As far as portrait or headshot covers go, this one's really solid. 3.5/5
I really enjoyed her voice.
This is fine. The songs blend together a bit, but are not unpleasant. Sort of an album full of final songs for romcoms.
Pleasant enough album. Adult contemporary music by a young woman. It’s good. Not too memorable. Dare I say boring.
146/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Not as bad as everyone says. It's anodyne but it's beautiful, the instrumentals arranged sparsely and beautifully. Jones has the opportunity to move into jazzier territory later in the album and it's probably where this album shines. Not ground-breaking but like your favourite worn-in clothes: really comforting.
Don't Know Why is the only song I had heard before, and it's a nice one, soothing lounge pop. And the other songs are just more of the same, not deviating much from the formula. Pretty voice, sparse instrumentation rinse and repeat. It's leagues better than the god-awful pop music I hear today, so I'll give it that, but I prefer more energy and excitement. We would get that the year after this album was released with Amy Winehouse's Frank, which I rated a 5/5.
Probably won’t listen to this a ton but like the vibes Couple of sneaky heaters on here
This is a very calm and relaxing album, the sort of thing you can put on in the background whilst studying or doing some other activity.
It's fine. The singing and the playing is lovely and all. The singles are great. The whole album goes on a bit. Do I think it's a must hear album for all time? No way.
All very pleasant and inoffensive. It’s simply… OK. I’ll listen to it if it’s on and I can’t switch radio channels, but I wouldn’t buy it or put it on, myself.
Like Imagine Dragons makes music for car commercials, Norah Jones' debut album feels like it was tailor-made for Starbucks. But Jones' voice is silky and inviting, and the instrumentation is tastefully subtle - I can't hate it.
FAVO: Don't know why, cold cold heart, Come away with me, Turn me on
MY HEAAAARRRT IIIIIIS DRENCHED IIIIIIN WINE!
Smooth jazz vocals
This was nice
zzzzzzzzz
Softpop, kinda jazzy
A high 3. Was reallllly enjoying it but then about 3/4 the way through, I got bored.
Impressive that Norah was only 21 when she released this debut. It's alright listening occasionally but not too occasional.
It was okay.
I’ve heard of Norah Jones recently, specifically that time she swept a good chunk of the 2003 Grammy Awards with this debut album of hers. I get that dependent on who you are, the Grammys can be taken with a grain of salt, but still for the artist’s recognition it can be validating and Norah continued to be appreciative throughout her career. As for the album in question, it’s a pleasant acoustic pop album with touches of soul and jazz. Norah has a very sultry mezzo-soprano voice, and she seems to know her way around the ivories. The guitars and backing instrumentation provide nice compositions for the ambience, and it all makes for smooth easy-listening background music. Unfortunately, background music is about the highest praise I could give this debut. Aside from a few songs like the opening single “Don’t Know Why” and “Painter’s Song”, a lot of the songs are structured so similarly to the point where the music goes in one ear and out on the other. It’s not a bad album per se, as it’s apparent early on how good of a singer-songwriter Norah is. I certainly don’t regret listening to it, but I also don’t think it left as much of an impression as I’d have wanted it to.
I mean, I'unno. I just have such a hard time getting invested or, like, interested in this. I'm sure there's some technical aspect about that I'm missing, like her breath control or something, but... Nah. I'm just gonna rate it how I feel: an "it's fine" 3.
It's better than yesterday's album. The music is a bit bland throughout. But the selling point is Jones' brilliant singing. If the songs were more energetic, the album would've been a classic. I don't have a favourite track on this album. 3 stars for "Come Away With Me".
This is a soothing, calming, and chill album. It was a good listen. It may not be as radical and crazy as some other albums here, but it succeeds in what it's trying to achieve. A balance of soft and clear vocals and delicate and graceful instrumentation accompany it. It ain't too shabby for Starbucks music. Best - Don't Know Why, Turn Me On, and Painter Song Worst - It all sounds the same fr 2.75-3.25/5
Wenig Unterschied zwischen den einzelnen Songs, aber gutes Album. Mit der richtigen Stimmung würde ich mir das anhören.
I enjoyed this album and own it. It's been a long time since I listened to it. It is good but didn't hold up as well as I thought it would.
very peaceful & you can feel she‘s in love
Bem gostosinho.
More Toyota Corolla core. Solid album tbh
3.5 Honestly a lovely way to start my Monday. I listened to it two times through. Not my favorite type of thing, but when it hits, it hits good. Warm, nostalgic, simple. Quietly massively influential. Everyone’s mom had this CD magically appear in their mini-van in 2004.
Have heard the album a few times. Beautiful voice. Nice arrangements. Can't figure out why I don't like it more. Maybe it needs just a little more edge, or verve, or something. A soft 3 stars. "Does it seem like I'm looking for an answer"
# Playlist track - Don't know why # Notes - It's never too bad, all things considered. Starts off great, but then it just fails to go anywhere. - A bit too slow, too soft, too mellow. - Not bad, but not interesting either.
About what I expected. I could see this being nice to put on for a fancy dinner but not something I would keep in rotation.
Mellow vibe. I liked it.
Enjoyable mellow album, but did not quite click with its totality.
Norah Jones draws a certain amount of criticism that seems disproportionate to the nature of her music, which is well made and pleasant on the ears, if a bit milquetoast. I don't really have particularly strong feelings for this music. It's pretty and relaxing, with a sleepy vibe that goes a long way, but it's a perfectly lovely listen for a quiet afternoon. I would listen to it again. Fave Songs: Don't Know Why, Come Away with Me, Lonestar, I've Got to See You Again, One Flight Down, Seven Years
Too much like hotel lobby music
Reminds me of a lot of musicians I’ve liked.
I liked this album at first, but then it just kept going. Each song felt pretty much the same.
She has a beautiful soulful voice that brings beauty to pain. My biggest issue is that it all starts to sound the same, meshing one song into the next and never really separating into their each distinct song. Sometimes I also found myself drifting out and thinking of it as background music in a department store. I liked it, but for me it was not earth shaking, but at the time I could see it being a departure from a lot of other pop music that was coming out.
This was pretty and vibey but started to get annoyingly boring towards the end.
Stämningsfullt!
Had heard her name before, but never really listened. OK for modern bluesy jazz, but a bit too straightforward/poppy for my taste. Surprised to learn she's the daughter of Ravi Shankar. Still prefer the early 20th century greats- Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday. Can't beat those (and it seems even Norah was a fan of BH).
Really nice
She's pretty great - good tunes.
Good stuff
Parhaat: Don't Know Why, Seven Years, Shoot The Moon
very good. 3.5
Breathy vocal acoustic pop. To call this a soundtrack to 14 John Lewis adverts would be a little trite, but not too far wide of the mark. Fortunately it includes blues, folk, country and soul elements which keep it from being overly twee. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Don't Know Why Date listened: 30/05/24
A soothing calm flood Bathes you at the couch or lounge With sweet reveries
I know why I didn't call
sehr ruhig, ein/zwei richtig gute Stücke
Really nice and relaxing. Sung wonderfully well. But so damn middle of the road and boring as hell.
not my taste but actually not bad- 1st song added to my playlist
New artist alert, pretty good!
Pleasant. Mellow. This album is not quite my thing, but it is understandable why it got as huge as it did. Don’t Know Why is a pretty good song. This is my first time hearing her version of Hank Sr’s Cold Cold Heart, and I really enjoyed that.
I winced when this was revealed, but to be honest, there’s nothing particularly wrong with it. I like my jazz less smooth but it’s inoffensive. Won’t be revisiting anytime soon or like ever but I wasn’t tearing at my ears or anything.
This has a vibe that I would usually be into. But it’s boring. I don’t get why this was so huge. It’s fine, but I’d listen to Stardust over this any day of the week.
Don’t know why Seven Years Come Away with Me I’ve Got To See You Again The Nearness of You Very soothing voice with solid lyric writing. Very good to listen to on a calm day. Can study, walk, clean, do almost anything listening to this. It makes me feel great.
3 - It's good, but very vanilla. But vanilla is nice.
Very pleasant at the start, but monotonous by the end. Fave Tracks: Come Away With Me, Seven Years, Nightingale 3.2/5
Smooth. 3.5
Reminds me of studying at Starbucks in highschool.
Its too bad that the album feels so bland and corporate, because she has a great voice and I appreciate her talent. The production overall is pretty good. But sadly at the end of the day this album is full of music for corporate coffee shops and lobbies. 3/5
Beautiful voice and tunes But it became a sleepingpill
Lovely singing voice, great instrumentals. This is not an album I would normally listen to, I enjoyed it but I doubt I will ever listed to it again.
I have a soft spot for this because of my back in the day. Probably a two otherwise.
Silky smooth voice, I really do love it. For a whole album of it, though, it's a bit boring. 3/5
Nice enough, doesn't do much beyond be ok music. Scrapes a 3.
Wrote the following half way through the album, but then the album kept going and going, yet is somehow only 45 minutes long, so maybe just a 3 instead of a 4- Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Being a kid when it came out, it was boring adult music on the radio. Great voice, nice relaxing music, and the familiarity led to a 4.
This is a very interesting album to look at. It's a slow, melodic, almost jazzy album released in a time when popular music was dominated by pop, rap, and the occasional alt-rock or nu-metal band. And yet somehow, this album sold over 27 million copies and is one of the best selling albums of all time. What? I never hear people talking about Norah Jones, so I'm not exactly sure what to say. Then again, I wasn't around in 2002, so maybe she was much bigger of a deal back then. Still, the high sales are enough to warrant this album being on this list. As for the quality? It's fine. I like the singing. I think the instrumentals are pretty decent. The album is pretty repetitive though, and the writing didn't really stand out to me that much. Overall, this album isn't really my thing, but I get why it's on here. 3/5.
I think my wife has this on cd. Good to put on in the background if your mom is coming over. Norah has a great voice and the arrangements are very well done. But it’s just so safe and clean.
I bought this back in the day when the album was really exploding. It was great for chilling/relaxing/background music but I liked it more then than I do now. This type of thing isn't really on my radar anymore though it was a nice re-visit. Overall it's kind of like sonic wallpaper. You could have it on in the background and be aware that music is playing but shortly after it's over not really remember anything that you just heard. Still, it's a very capable, easy and relaxing listen. 3.5/5
pretty harmless
While I enjoy listening to Ms. Jones' voice, the album does not stir me. I heard her take chances on a song with a slight country sound, but overall, the album did not seem to take chances.
# 213 : I started off thinking I am not going to like the blandness of these songs and this record, but I had to admit to myself that I actually enjoyed the relaxing vibe the songs bring. Her voice has a great range and the jazzy arrangements give the record a good relaxing sound. Favourite track : Don't Know Why - (this was Grammy album of the year in 2003)
Very easy and chill.. it has its place but it’s just not my first choice of music.
#198. Inoffensive piano pop. Decent, I suppose, if you're already into that kind of thing, perhaps a bit boring if you're not. 3/5: acceptable
Feels like the modern-day version of the old school classic female singers.
Yep, that's some laid back piano.
Bog standard love songs. Not great, not terrible
Shes shy and horny with the voice of an angel.
Good voice. Just abit smooth and commercial. Ok for back ground music…
Room temperature water.
Chill music, wouldn’t mind listening again but it doesn’t suit my tastes tbh, would give this album a good 7/10
I didn’t love this. And I was trying to figure out why it didn’t strike me as much as Cowboy Junkies — theoretically they have a similar vibe? But Norah Jones’ voice just doesn’t sound as timelessly beautiful to me. It’s almost as if she’s singing in cursive haha.
Honestly, hard to rate this album without feeling some nostalgia. My mom used to play some Norah Jones when we would garden in the yard. turn me on is sexy. To see you again was a little different, but for the most part, a lot of the song sounds the same. I’d like to give it a solid 3.5
This is fine pop/blues/jazz. Nothing really impresses except her voice. The light instrumentation doesn't elevate or highlight. Just a fine album.
Pleasant enough. Nice for a low-key Sunday afternoon.
Good voice. Album is a little too slow and just not for me though
This is the best nepo-baby record since Nelson hit the scene. But seriously this is a really good record. again i wish there was half stars i would go 3.5
Baladas de pop suave. Buena voz. Ni fu ni fa.
Hoy no hubo mucha concentración para la escucha. En síntesis, siento a éste disco como música matinal, para momentos de desenchufe, para permanecer relajado.
The album Come Away With Me by Norah Jones is on the softer site. She has a very pleasant voice and the instrumentals are soothing. For me that’s nothing I would hear on a regular base but I’ll remember the Song I‘ve Got To See You Again.
good voice, great background music. not something I listen to regularly
Lovely music, although I could walk away from it while still playing and feel like I didn’t miss much.
Pleasant voice. All the songs sound sorta similar, though.
Gives early nostalgic coffee shop vibes…
soft jazz love songs. 2000s romcom. not my daily cup
Perfect album if you want to feel like you're in a coffee shop working on the next assignment for your digital arts class. Not my favorite genre of music, but definitely a good listen.
i've got to see you again
if my life was a hallmark movie, i want my girl Norah Jones on the soundtrack 💯💯💯
Molto carino
Mellow album with a few tracks I enjoyed.
Not very inspired but some good tunes on here.
Creates a mood but it doesn't take long to get your full of it.
Sultry vocals, sad lyrics, mellow over all, but not really my thing.
Very pretty music but pretty slow. I will definitely revisit when I’m more in the mood. I like Norah Jones’ voice a lot and I think I just need to find the right vibe for this album.
The elevator albums strike again with Come Away With Me and to be honest, this album is probably the best of them all. The instruments were all used well and the songs had some noticeable differences between each other but it was mostly Norah's voice that carried the album for me. There is still that elevator album stigma where a majority of the songs sound the same even if there is more of a difference between them. Its still a pretty good album regardless of that. Best Song: One Flight Down Worst Song: Seven Years
Not jazz. Basically, light rock driven by piano, which I like. Is it multi-star worthy? Probably not. Great album to listen to, but kind of becomes background music.
slow silent music
Ja vrij rustige loungemuziek
Realll good record with an incredible voice and some beautiful songwriting that’s made a little less fun to re-listen by how safe and a little boring the production/band choices are. Everything feels just a little too squeaky clean for my liking, the solos just a little too pat and perfect. Not to diminish whatsoever from the players, it just feels a little same-y after a while. But what a voice, what a good showcase for her talents! I could just put this on in most any environment and feel pretty happy about that decision. A high 3/5, I will most definitely be returning to this album when the time is right.
Meh. Yes it was a relaxing album, and there's no denying that Norah has a beautiful voice but the whole album felt so samey, by the final song I couldn't wait for it to end.
A quiet and mostly sweet album. A little too soft for me and not an all time classic, but a nice jazzy little album
My 1001st album. Just chill
Incredibly well produced with beautiful vocals, but very few of the songs actually connected with me. I totally see how this labeled as “Starbucks pop”
i loved this album when it first came out. and today i wanted to like it more than i did. hmmm, weird.
Well that was nice. Transported me back to a Starbucks in early 2000s
Enjoyable listen. Love the piano bits. Nice soft jazzy time.
Jazzy, easy listening
Veldig koselig, høst album
Beautiful voice, and some really beautiful songs. “Don’t Know Why” is a classic. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
I can’t believe that we as a society allowed the phrase Makin’ Whoopee to be acceptable. 3.5/5
Two great tracks. Impressive how popular jazz was in 2002
Great song writer, comforting voice, and the instrumentation is so mature for a her age.
Beautiful jazzy nostalgia! Would be a great lounge or bar band, but gets as a little dull recorded.
Really nice stuff, but it all starts sounding the same. I can’t imagine someone buying this record and playing it on repeat.
It was entirely fine
Nice.
Household favorite for chillin inside days
Lovely voice. Chill music, but also a little boring.
I can't say I'm a big fan of this Grammy winning genre, but I will not deny Norah Jones does it well.
This is good. Not really my taste, but I appreciate it.
Lovely, easy listening, even soothing music!
Good cold/rainy/snowy day vibes
suuuuuuuch a child of its time, it feels so much like something that you'd find in my mother's old car cds or that you'd hear in some mid 2000s coming of age tv series à la one tree hill. it's really nothing more than a sweet collection of harmless jazzy folky pop tunes. it works really well in specific contexts but i'd hardly see myself coming back to the whole record since it falls a bit flat and often fails to mantain my attention. that said, i don't think it's a bad project at all, it has lots of pretty intuitions scattered all around and some of the tunes feel really cute and comfy. the problem i find with it is that many of them feel quite empty and lifeless, expecially when there is little to no variations in the instruments used or the technique of norah's vocals. on the long run it starts to get quite monotonous and repetitive but never to the point of feeling like a waste of time. i think that the opener, don't know why, is a perfect description of what can be found throughout the record and works reeeeally well as a pop single. i can also see how it was influential on the mainstream market at the time while at the same time managing to do it better than most of its successors, or at least from what i can remember. so yeah, as a start it could've been way worse
lush, sophisticated, pretty jazz album, just... pretty. the three stars feel better here, i always feel like i have to give an "iconic album star" but doesn't make much sense now. "nightgale" is probably my fave in the album, along with "the nearness of you" also my most played song of the album. would i listen to it again? who knows
Meh
War recht angenehmen nebenher
I like it. Maybe overrated?
I remember when this album came out and the song Come Away with Me was ubiquitous in a way that few songs become truly ubiquitous. I can enjoy Come Away with Me and Don't Know Why as the standouts from the album. I like the rest of it too, in a pleasant, doesn't leave much of an impression kind of way.
Favorite coffee shop album
Gorgeous easy listening.
3 out of 5. Beautiful voice, great jazzy feel to it. Overall a solid album, easy to listen to. I like Nora’s voice a lot; and this album is peaceful.
Easy listening, but once is enough, thank you.
Already heard this quite a bit. I like the bluesy, low-key sound but not my fave
Classic coffee house sound
read an art history book once that talked about how hard it is to have an authentic emotional reaction to the Mona Lisa or in fact to even really see the Mona Lisa because it’s so prevalent in culture your idea of it is always between you and the painting. that’s kind of how I feel about this album. hard to even imagine hearing it for the first time. would it feel touching, would it feel tender, would it feel corny? would it sound like a particular season or time of day? I don’t know! but she’s clearly very skilled!
A nice voice. Strong and smooth. May be the right sound for some moods. For me it‘s a little bit boring.
Like a time machine straight to an early oughts Starbucks
A stunningly gorgeous voice. The songs are all really pretty, but I probably wouldn't choose to listen to many of these again outside of hearing them on a shuffled relaxing playlist. Not because they weren't well-made or the quality wasn't good; quite the opposite. It just feels like it's relaxing peaceful music meant for the background. Nothing wrong with that at all. To me it felt like the perfect soundtrack to have softly playing while dozing in a hammock on a calm, tranquil, springtime dusk.
Good but not great
Soft breathy vocals married with a rich jazzy acoustic backing band featuring tinkling piano, zingy guitar, brushed drums and stand up bass. It's relaxed atmosphere makes it perfect coffee n chat music (or possibly late night romantic coziness on the sofa).
it was ok, pretty voice
Ultimate chill mudic
This album just keeps getting a little better as each year passes from its release.
Smooth, I can appreciate her voice more now than I used to.
Great record. Was in heavy rotation when it came out. Did not revisit.
I did not realise the album soo so well.I’m not an easy listening kind of guy tho so this did not hit the marks at all for me.
This would be nice to have on at a party or something but it gets dull pretty quick. Fine
BRUUUUCCE!!!!!!
Nice voice, nice music, nice lyrics. Just really nice.
This is a nice album, nothing that grabs me particularly, but it's nice all the same. Also for what it's worth, according to the current 1001 Albums list, this one has been knocked off for something else to keep the "official list" limited to 1001.
Didn't hate this as much as I thought I would, likely because of the fun piano and guitar work. I can't imagine ever seeking this music out again, but I'm glad I gave it a shot.
Pretty cool for someone in her genre to have their first album be full of their own compositions. This doesn’t seem to be the norm. Not a huge fan but a very solid debut.
Love the gentle vibe, def what I needed at the time
I Dont like jazz.
Listen, this album brought me back. With beautiful songs like Come Away With Me and Don’t Know Why it’s got hits. However as a whole the smooth lullaby jazz sound can get boring and put you to sleep. Which can be great if that’s what you’re going for.
Chill album. Nice easy listening. Wouldn’t mind if it was in the background but probably won’t regularly listen to this album.
It was cute, not my cup of tea however.
Great voice and backing instruments. Got Christmas vibes from this one for some reason. However, another singer-songwriter album that doesn't really differentiate itself from others albums in the same genre. Was surprised to see this is one of the top selling albums of all time. Shoot the Moon was my favorite.
Not my cup of tea at all. 3 stars because it was essentially easy listening, which is what it sets out to be. But it wasn’t interesting at all. Would never listen again.
Perfect soundtrack to eat a gluten free muffin to
Can see the appeal but it hardly sets the pulse racing - wouldn't go out of my way to listen but fine enough
3.4 a good, moody winter or rainy day album.
It's hard not to like the soothing sounds of Norah Jones' vocals on this album. She rolls a little too soft for me, but I could see where if I was in a really bad place in my life, like experiencing the death of a close loved one that this album might be really useful.
The success of “Come Away With Me” is baffling. Not because of Norah Jones’ talent, or because of the songs from the album. It is baffling because it is a lounge jazz record that is the 8th best selling album of all time by a female artist. (It’s labeled as “acoustic pop,” and while that might be true, it stands out from the other acoustic pop singer-songwriters of the early 2000s.) This album has every right to be popular, especially with Boomers who weren’t on Napster. But to gain the kind of sales it did, “Come Away With Me” had to transcend all barriers and appeal to a wider audience. The early 2000s were a weird time for popular culture, but no amount of weirdness explains the smashing success of Norah Jones’ debut. Except for the fact that it's really good. Lovely songs, sung in a mellow sultriness that truly makes you want to come away with her. And yet, I couldn’t help the feeling of boredom as the album progressed. I nearly fell asleep grading papers. But, if you’re a Boomer listening to jazzy singer-songwriters on your 5-disc changer, maybe a nap is what you’re actually looking for out of it.
***1/2 soothing jazzy pop to chill. fav: feelin' the same way
Okay I guess, but life is too short to listen to meh music. So I randomly clicked on a band I'd never heard of that the YouTube algorithm fed to me and discovered Polyphia. They turned out to be 1001 times better than this Nora Jones album. So yeah...after Boston yesterday and now this today, I think this 1001 book sucks.
Tykkäsin tästä joskus aikaisemmin mutta nyt ehkä arvostan vähän orginaalimpaa soudia enemmän. Vähän tällänen cover-levyn katku tässä on mutta ihan jees. 3/5
Ei kantanut ihan koko levyllistä, vaikka tykkäsin ekan puoliskon verran. 2,5/5, pyöristyköön ylös.
I know this album well! For some reason I thought it was a good mum gift when I was about 15 but I think then just kept it for myself. No idea how I discovered her. I'm not sure it's my thing anymore or how this holds up. But I enjoyed listening for nostalgia reasons. I remember so many words, the brain is nuts.
Pretty good yeah. I've not really listen to Norah Jones before, just one of those musicians you kind of know but I couldn't have named any songs. I enjoyed that though, it was nice.
2-3 but wife made me
Lots of very clever Starbucks comments on here. Granted, it's not the most exciting album ever but the lady has a lovely voice and it suits the music. Maybe she could get her sister to lay down some nice Sitar on her next record, that would be a cool collaboration. 3.5
Great background music for coffee shops (not a bad thing)
Lovely feel and voice, need to play in the background more often
nice and sweet and light
Enjoyed the singing, and Don’t Know Why is a classic. 3/5 for now as the album full of ballads isn’t something I’m likely going to enjoy listening to often. It was pleasant to listen to while driving and relaxing.
Wasn't bad at all. Slower than I normally listen to, but good.
I remember this being a massively popular record, and the Wikipedia page confirms this (diamond status). Do I agree it should be on this list? Sure, but beyond the two more popular tracks ("Come away with me" and "Don't know why") there isn't much on this album that I would come back to - I think it is too singular of a vibe/tempo throughout to keep me interested, and it doesn't speak to me personally.
"Don't Know Why" is the first song on this album and a pretty cool one so I thought this was going to be one of those albums where I was surprised at how good it was. Unfortunately, the rest of the album has no variety or draw. It is pleasant enough, Norah's voice is great and everything is pretty soothing, but ultimately not interesting enough for me.
Not necessarily bad, but this has very little identity; also don’t see how it’s jazz
I can't escape the other reviews calling this "Starbucks music". That is definitely true. That said, I do enjoy Norah Jones' piano jazz vibes. They make for very easy listening, and she has a very calming yet slightly sultry voice. I do remember this album contributing heavily to the furthering of jazz music in the 2000s -- this album was heavily hyped. While it's still easy listening, I don't know that it has necessarily stood any test of time. A pretty average 3 for me, though!
kinda chill maar ook pici boring
Not for me but she is incredibly talented
Was I at a coffee shop all day yesterday? Did I even come into work?
I remember how ever present this album was when it came out. Listening to it now, it just sounds very safe and vanilla to me. Norah Jones has a great voice and maybe I just can’t hear this without remembering how it was in every coffee shop and seemed like it was played anytime I went to anyone’s parents’ house.
Most of it sounds the same. Very 90s with a Sarah McLachlan breathy vibe
She has a beautiful voice and I found this album a soothing listen. I remember this being a big hit at the time of release and it was played quite a lot in my house - it blew my mind when I learned that she is Ravi Shankar's daughter. It is very well done but this pop-jazz style is not really for me, though I much prefer her to Diana Krall or Corinne Bailey Rae, maybe because I don't find Norah Jones annoying, I guess it's smooth but not annoyingly smooth.
This album is all background music. Not any misses but not any bangers tbh.
Ah, okay, here’s one I’ve heard. My dad bought it probably shortly after it came out and used to play it all the time…to the point that I’m kind of sick of it. 2 stars if I’m being honest, but I’ll give it the extra for my pops.
Good music but feels like one long song lol
It’s hard not to be influenced by the over saturation of the singles on this album. Her voice is good, it sound good, it’s just too vanilla. Too cosey, middle class coffee shop.
you listen to the first track and you've basically heard all of them. doesnt mean the first track isnt bad though.
Rich voice, but doesn't grab me. Sleepytime
Blind album and artist. Calming but nothing exceptional. Coffee house calm for sure.
I quite like Norah Jones overall. I’m not familiar with much of her stuff and I think I only became aware of her because she collaborated with a Foo Fighters on In Your Honour. This was a nice easy listen and my favourite track was quite predictably Come Away With Me, which has been in a couple of my Spotify playlists for a while now. Not an earth shattering album but certainly nothing objectionable about any of it. A solid 3/5
Nice relaxing vibes for a rainy Friday morning. Nothing that's really a banger so I don't see myself throwing these songs on by myself but I'll always be content listening to some Nora.
This was gorgeous, but the piano felt a little repetitive towards the end of the album. Can't believe I thought Avril was better than this back in the day.
great voice,meh music
helt ok
not really my cup of tea, sounded like the backtracking to every 90's action film i've ever seen.
A classic for coffee shops everywhere. This album has some great singer songwriter songs that will be played for years. Jones is a smooth and easy listening artists. This has to be her best album. Some of the songs are very relaxing. Other feel kind of boring and blend with the others. But overall this is a pretty good album even if it is for the coffee shops. 7.1/10
breathy singing im not usually a fan of, but a good album that feels like it hits the mark she was going for, does get a little repetitive in the second half
Norah Jones is a gem. I don't know what was in the water in the early 2000's that made singer songwriters explode again, but I was happy for it. That said, this album is lukewarm. There are some lovely little tracks (Come Away With Me, Cold Cold Heart, Turn Me On) but overall her later, less commercially successful work has a lot more depth to it. Not going to complain though. I love her voice.
This record feels like sitting at a fogged-windowed cafe on a cold winter evening
55/100
Pretty chill album that doesn't really have highs or lows. Her voice is fine, but nothing special. I think the other instruments do a lot to make this album as good as it is. Once again I listened to this mostly as background music, but Nightingale caught my ear; there's some good depth to this song.
I really like Don't Know Why. Definitely had heard it before but a perfect rainy Sunday morning song. Come Away With Me was my Mom's ringtone for years and possibly still is. Alright as a song. This was definitely nothing special but enjoyable at the same time. Really like her voice and the standup bass sections. Not much else stood out. Another solid 3 in my book
Prachtige muziek, maar wel heel erg rustig. Misschien ben ik niet in de juiste stemming, maar mij iets te rustig.
4/14, 29%
This isn't my cup of tea, but it's solid for what it is. She has a pleasing, laid-back, jazzy voice. I like how restrained the entire thing is. Simple-but-effective arrangements. Solid songwriting. Nice covers of a couple of classics. However, I can also see people finding the album a little bland. And maybe it is, though it's a nice, chill listen for a lazy Sunday morning. Is it a timeless classic? I don't know. Does it need to be on this list? Probably not. I am a little surprised at how huge this thing was, given that there are dozens of albums just like it. But it's hard for me to find fault with the material itself.
3.7 + Back in 2002, a girl I was seeing would put this CD in her boombox before I’d put it in hers. So anytime I hear this, I fondly recall pounding dat azzz.
don't Know Why - 7.5/10 Seven years - 8/10 Cold Cold Heart - 6.5/10 Feelin' the Same Way - 8.5/10 Come Away With Me - 8/10 Shoot the Moon - 8.5/10 Turn Me On - 8.5/10 Lonestar - 8/10 I've Got to See You Again - 8/10 Painter Song - 8.5/10 One Flight Down - 8/10 Nightingale - 8/10 The Long Day is Over - 8/10 The Nearness of You - 7.5/10 TOTAL - 111/140
In all honesty, I didn't mind this. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and I have to be in the right mood to listen to this (or at Starbucks which many have said on here already in earlier reviews) but this was OK.
Incredibly pleasant If this album was any better, it wouldn't be as good, it's safe, it's calm, its peaceful, nice vibe, a little bland, but incredibly pleasant the whole way through. Probably not as good as the likes of Lisa Hannigan, but good none the less It's probably a high 3 3/5
Good voice and music but got a bit stale by the end.
May have finally found the album where the drug of choice is caffeine!
You can't say the sounds or songs are particularly original. You can say that Norah Jones' voice sounds great on the recording and the tunes are pleasant.
Lovely album. Very chill. Will defo listen to again. 3.5 stars.
An album mostly of covers and standards. Sparse production and slow tempo that remains consistent throughout the album. Jones' breathy delivery dominates the album.
Now That’s What I Call Coffee Shop Music!
Very good for what it is being comforting music. It doesn’t blow you away but don’t think it tries to and just makes for easy listening. Rating: 3.5
bonito, linda voz, carente de personalidad.
C'est relax, mais j'aime bien le style. Ça fait bcp breakup song j'espère qu'il va revenir though.
