Reviews (page 7 of 15)
My teenage self rabidly defended early Muse against everyone who said they were a Radiohead knockoff. I take it all back. Can't believe it took me this long to listen front to back. This is a revelation.
Didn't listen this time, but have listened 1000s of times. Near perfect.
Heard this one a hundred times. "Paranoid Android" is my generation's "Stairway to Heaven". Killer record, an alt rock classic. My fave by them.
So freaking good
Sometimes I get into weird music ruts where I listen to the same few albums for months on end and don’t touch stuff that I told myself I would revisit long long ago. I don’t listen to OK Computer (or Radiohead, for that matter) nearly enough. I was pulled into the soundscape from the first track all the way to the end — no skips. It's one of those rare albums where with each listen you discover a new detail to fall in love with. Tracks that stood out to me upon this relisten: 3 - Subterranean Homesick Alien; 5 - Let Down Would I revisit this album: YES. It’s going onto my heavy rotation.
jesus christ, I'm not capable of being normal about the fact that I liked this, I really really liked this a lot fucking hell. Confusion about why people like this band *and this album in particular* had been such a cornerstone of my music taste, and I've fully turned my back to it basically thanks to this project. Literally a 20+ year process for them to finally click
One of the all time favorites. Sad but hopeful.
top ten albums of all time
My favourite album, great start. Calm chill psychedelic vibes, dynamic and layered tracks with smooth vocals. Makes me want a doobie and a sunbathe.
Not my favorite Radiohead album but certainly groundbreaking and a real step up in terms of what this band was capable of doing. Incorporating experimental, electronica, a wide variety of melodies and tempos all under an umbrella of post-futurist alienation and emptiness. Really holds together as a concept and has had a lasting legacy after over a quarter century.
One of my favorite albums
Solid.
Easy
come on
You can tell an album is a classic when it's just as relevant today as it was 26 years ago. Social anxiety, technology anxiety, performance anxiety, consumerism anxiery, this is as 2023 as it could possibly get. The album that made britpop peak and then die. Revisionnists may be trying to downplay its role in the alternative rock landscape, but I think it is one of its milestones.
Sounds like Muse defined their whole personality on this album. They still never managed to top this.
Undeniably a legendary album, Ok Computer is a game changer for the 90s era and the history of music. It's like space britpop/alt rock that age very, very well. These songs are a perfect example of what mastered songwriting is and how arrangements can boost everything to the top.
Sublime
One of my favorite albums of all time. The combination of electronic elements with the alternative punky sounds is done so well here, and I wouldn’t say they’ll get close to this level again until In Rainbows. Favorite tracks: No Surprises, Paranoid Android, Let Down
Perfect
Outstanding selection, i have this album thankfully
Had some good songs in it? Some I knew, some I never knew. Good listen.
Has been in my top 3 since it came out.
Best album, EVER!
Leeeeets GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! 3rd Best Radiohead Album I'D give it 4.5 if I could, F
Oh wow this album is completely and wholly stunning. The distinctively familiar and utterly heart-breaking glockenspiel melody on No Surprises is so nostalgic, it really has a lot of emotion attached to it. The whole album's sound was apparently influenced by the child-like guitar sound on No Surprises and I feel like that song is really the corner-stone of the album. I haven't often listened to this album as a whole story in this way and it was so nice to listen in full and on vinyl also lovely to pay more attention to some tracks I knew less on here. It was also fun to read more on the background and writing of the songs, I didn't know that they wrote what they thought was an amazing track and then came to play it without knowing who would play what instrument, that's so interesting and exciting to me! There's some extremely catchy riffs and I feel like also other just small magical moments throughout the album that I discover something new every time I listen again. BIG love. Not sure really how to review this album so this is my best attempt.
Can't compete with Chole's review so I won't bother. This is a belter. Exit Music (For a film) is such a great song, gives me chills every time, I ruddy bloody love it. This album has got some of the best of the best Radiohead. I remember my dad playing me Fitter Happier when I was quite young being like 'listen to this mad song', I had no clue what was going on.
Kid A is more completely my shit than OK Computer, but this is still undeniably a masterpiece. Radiohead in their prime.
One of the best albums ever made. It's ok not to enjoy it, but what other band competently makes music like what's on OK Computer? This is a singular, essential piece of music history. On here is one of the best 3-song opening salvos of all time, followed later by Electioneering, Climbing Up The Walls, and No Surprises one after the other. Each of those would be the best song on most other albums (and I'm also a huge fan of Lucky). My one complaint about this album is that Exit Music takes a while to get going. That's it. I thought I liked Kid A more going into today's listen, but now I'm not sure; maybe that album is just easier to listen to on repeat. Either way, Radiohead was on some next level shit in this era. 5 stars isn't enough.
I already said a decent amount about this album when I got in rainbows so I’ll try not to repeat myself too much. This album was very important to me in high school and was highly influential in expanding the types of music I listen to. Without discovering this album on my own, I’d probably still be listening to the most basic classic rock that my dad listens to. Paranoid android remains one of my go-to songs whenever I’m angry or sad and I don’t think any finale to a song can ever top exit music. I even used SHA as an alarm for a year in college. Just as in rainbows felt transitional in radioheads discography, this feels to me like the beginning of the switch from alt/grunge rock to electronic music that was fully cemented with kid a. The themes of isolation and alienation run strong throughout every track and the abstract lyrics are both clever and thematic. At this point it’s somewhat cliche to call this one of the best albums of the 90s or list it as a favorite album but it’s cliche for a reason because it really is just that good.
4.9 Almost a perfect album. Fave songs: Airbag, Let Down, No Surprises
What an album. Absolute classic. Probably Radiohead at their best - the sound (unsurprisingly) is somewhere in between The Bends and Kid A and delivers the best of both worlds. Amazing lyrics and incredible music. A great Album.
Paranoid Android // Exit Music (For a Film) // Let Down // Karma Police // Electioneering // No Surprises // Lucky
Undoubtedly my most 10/10 albums and will probably forever be my favorite.
I think this is the album that finally made me get Radiohead. There is definitely something special going on with this album but it is so hard to put my finger on what it is. There is so much depth throughout this album that I know with continued listens it will only continue to get better. Added to playlist: Karma Police
Bästa låtar: Exit Music, Paranoid Android, Airbag, No surprises
The classic album every Monday streak continues. Another one where it’s just ‘what do I have to say’. One this I do have to say is that ‘Electioneering’ is a full-on banger and I am coming to your house if you say it’s the low point on this album. Other than that, it’s OK Computer. Just read one of the other billion positive reviews.
There is very little that can be said about this album that hasn’t been said before. It is perfect.
Brilliant album. Gets better with age and repeated listening.
I guess I grew into this album - haven't listened since I was a teen, and found it boring as hell then. Now I think it's pretty sick.
Top ten of all time, probably top 5.
One of the greatest albums of all time
The end of Britpop Despite liking Kid A and In Rainbows a bit more, I can still appreciate how influential this album was to not just rock music, but music as a whole Favourite tracks: Airbag, Paranoid Android, Exit Music, Let Down, No Surprises, The Tourist
A classic. Not a bad track on here. Not really much else to add.
GOOD
Really enjoyed this one front to back. Super cohesive album!
Paranoid Android is my favorite guitar arrangement of all time.
Honestly, hard to be objective with this as it's something I've listened to so many times in the past, but I do think it's as close to a perfect album as you can get. Every track deserves its place - yes, even Fitter Happier - the variety of moods and sounds is unparalleled, and I don't think the quality drops anywhere. Even tracks I didn't love at the time have grown on me to the point where they feel like they've always been there. One addition - if you've listened to it so many times you feel bored, try to find the remastered 'OKNOTOK' version from a couple of years ago. The remaster brought out some parts of tracks I hadn't noticed before and gave it a new sheen, and the bsides from that era are also definitely worth a listen.
Side 1 might be better than any ever. Side 2 is pretty good but lucky and tourist never really do it for me. Still an absolute masterpiece and right off a perfect score. Rating: 4.9
This was a mind opening album for me. Still sounds truly fresh 25+ years on. It's probably my favorite Radiohead album, although of course they have at least 3 albums I'd give a 5. Anyway, easy 5. I feel like the album speaks for itself better than I can.
Pink Floyd vs Coldplay cage match
OK Computer by Radiohead is an avant-garde masterpiece that revolutionized rock music. Released in 1997, it transcends genres, blending rock, electronic, and experimental elements. Tracks like "Paranoid Android" and "Karma Police" are hauntingly beautiful, combining Thom Yorke's ethereal vocals with intricate arrangements. The album's production is intricate and atmospheric, creating an immersive sonic landscape. Yorke's introspective lyrics explore the alienation of the digital age. While some may find the album's complexity challenging, its innovation and emotional depth are undeniable. OK Computer remains a timeless classic that defined a generation and continues to influence modern music. It's a testament to Radiohead's genius and willingness to push boundaries, making it essential for any music aficionado.
This is a great run of records for me, and another Im very familiar with. I know it’s not the ‘cool’ choice to think OK Computer is such an absolute masterpiece but it really is. From the more poppier songs to the experimental, every word just sounds sincere (I think that’s the word I’m looking for). I’m a sucker for bands where you can hear the exact place a song comes from, and Radiohead nail that here. It’s moody, atmospheric, progressive, experimental - every box ticked for me in what makes a great record. If Talking Heads were the band of the 80s, I reckon Radiohead take that prize for band of the 90s. Just fucking mint.
By far the best radiohead album, like lots of bands it's the peak between their straightforward and experimental stuff, best of both. Don't think I've ever given this a full spin though I knew most of it. The other album tracks were largely great too. Will definitely listen again.
5/5
A-OK Computer.
overly complicated wake word
BL: the generator must be trying to prod me by making me get two Radiohead albums two days in a row - this is supposed to be their magnum opus - so I will have to go into it thusly, and disregarded my previous take on The Bends yesterday. AL: alright fine. You got me. This album is brilliant, I was walking through a forest in the morning whilst listening to this and I don’t think there was a better way to experience this for the first time. Somber, beautiful and harrowing. The tones, ethereal sounds, electronica and rock all combined makes for a pretty unique experience and in the early internet days before the popularisation of electronic and rock synergies this would’ve been mind blowing to hear. FT: “Airbag”, “Paranoid Android”, “Exit Music (For a Film)” 5/5
The best album ever. Nuff said.
Life changing, alternative music that would go on to define the century that soon followed. Paranoid Android is a millennial anthem, can’t count the number of times I’ve cried to the beauty of Let Down on the train, and No Surprises depresses me in all the right ways.
Remembering working one of my first jobs during the still-hot CD age and pre-Napster.... I had one of the first portable mp3 players that held up to FIFTEEN SONGS on it that you could swap in and out. Amazing. Anyways it was in this period where I was given this album at said job, who the hell knows what I was listening to at the time but Radiohead? Eh. Creep was just another angsty mid90s song. Forgettable but for that KUH-chuh...KUH-chuh.... You know. I kind of missed The Bends as I was busy in/with my own band at the time living the emaciated van life. Glamour - non-stop .... This is an absolute mess where was I - OH but Rick wherever you are, thanks for the loaner CD. WTF - Paranoid Android?? A friend described it months later as our generation's Bohemian Rhapsody - idk if true but I liked it nonetheless and it stuck with me. I know it's on a lot of shortlists for bEsT aLbUm EVAH!!.! and yeah it maybe is that good; I will subscribe in the sense that those first 4 songs rival anything I've ever drowned myself in with regards to nonstop holyshitness (see: Rush Moving Pictures). Each of these songs are different, melodic, terrifying, gorgeous, lush, mysterious...captivating. I always think once "Subterranean Homesick Alien" is done that it can't get more beautiful than that and yet then "Exit Music..." comes on and holy hell it's haunting. Lyrically sure but the music is a perfect match. My "problem" is that it doesn't hold onto the unimaginable bar those first 4 set. It's probably not possible (Camera Eye, Moving Pictures side 2 / track 5 - there's your bar) so it's unfair to judge against itself. The rest is merely quite good. Just not necessarily ethereal. Then again they could have put something as stupid as a Mac Classic computer voice on any of the remaining 8 tracks and still earned a 5 here so.... 10/10 5 stars
Highlights: Paranoid Android, Exit Music (For A Film), Fitter Happier, Lucky, The Tourist
Pretty good album.I prefer the bends but this album is still good almost every song is a good track. No surprises,Karma Police,Exit music for a film, paranoid android are the stand out tracks.Sometimes it can be annoying with yorkes wailing but beside that it’s a really good album. Not the best of all time though.
This album is my favourite one of all times. 5/5 stars anytime.
Opus magnum
OK Computer is such a profound album. One of Radiohead's best.
Bedsitter
This is one of those albums that sounds normal years later because everyone tried to sound like it after it came out. At the time it was revelatory.
What an incredible album. Most of my favourite Radiohead songs are on here.
Khaaaarmaaa Pooooliiiice
No surprises here it's brilliant
It’s one of the most important albums of BOTH the 20th and the 21st centuries, ok? Enough said.
I'm back to save the universe. God-tier writing on Karma Police and No Surprises. Only gripe is that it seems much longer than it actually is. It feels like I'm slogging away listening to this album but it's only 53 minutes long.
These guys are pretty good Fav track: climbing up the walls 4.5/5
What more can be said? Walking thru n airport trying to find urself with The Tourist in your ears, it'd be a cliché if it wasn't so pitch perfect. The alt-rock album to end all alt-rock albums. Layered to perfection. Accessible and endless. Fave track: No Surprises
One of the all-time perfect albums. I envy anyone that gets to hear it for the first time.
5/5. An emotional and depressing album full of songs about life, society, the future, the present, and the self. The singing is haunting and sad and the instrumentation feels angry. This is a beautiful album that is hard to match. Best song: Paranoid Android, Let Down
Good listen
Perfect from start to finish
Amazing, as always.
Almost singing all of it out loud on the bus. Too good.
I was too excited when I got this album, really made my Thursday. OK Computer presents a dystopian vision of the modern world, exploring themes of alienation, consumerism, and technological dependency in a sound of swirling ambience. Thom Yorke's haunting vocals and introspective lyrics perfectly serve as a conduit for the disillusionment and anxiety prevalent in contemporary society. "Paranoid Android," a standout track and one of the best rock songs of all time, showcases Radiohead's ability to seamlessly blend diverse musical elements. The song transitions from melodic verses to explosive guitar-driven sections, all while maintaining a cohesive narrative. It is an epic sonic journey that encapsulates the album's overall atmospheric and emotional depth. "Karma Police" and "No Surprises" are two other remarkable tracks that demonstrate Radiohead's ability to balance vulnerability and introspection with lush instrumentation. The former's haunting piano melody and Yorke's emotive vocal delivery create a sense of urgency, while the latter's delicate acoustic arrangement juxtaposes with lyrics that express a quiet resignation to the mundane aspects of life. "Climbing Up the Walls" showcases their mastery of creating an unsettling atmosphere through the use of eerie samples and dissonant guitar lines. The use of unconventional time signatures and intricate layering of instruments throughout the album creates a sonic landscape that is both rich and complex. Tracks like ”Exit Music (For A Film” and ”Let Down” are also beautiful with a sense of longing and emotional feelings tied into every word. The production on OK Computer is meticulous, thanks to the collaboration between the band and producer Nigel Godrich. The album effortlessly blends traditional rock instrumentation with electronic elements and innovative production techniques, creating a sound lays the foundation for genre-bending performance. The album's critical and commercial success solidified Radiohead's place as one of the most important and innovative bands of their era and they are in my opinion one of the greatest bands of all time due to their unparalleled discography, and OK Computer is their crown jewel. This album is absolutely timeless and one of the greatest records of all time. PLEASE listen to it, if you haven’t already.
no notes
not my favorite Radiohead, but certainly a 10 and a fantastic listen
This album deservedly gets memed because of rym users but Karma Police is an all time banger
My all time favourite album. Perfect from start to finish.
The album where Radiohead became Radiohead. Essential listening.
My favorite Radiohead album. A masterpiece.
one of their best album
Literal perfection
Iets meer dan alleen OK dit album. Champion’s League van de muziek.
This is somewhere around my fourth time listening to the album and, each time, I enjoy it more than the last. Completely original and all in a good way. Enjoyed the hell out of it. 5/5
great album, so many cool and interesting tracks that combine into a cohesive whole. favorite songs: airbag, no surprises
GOAT
One of the best albums of all time
So many hits!
not bad Favorite Tracks: Paranoid Android, Electioneering 5/5
Not sure how I ended up being one of the few who likes Thom Yorke.
Great album. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
First Radiohead album I got into that also made me not like people who got super into Radiohead. I'm ok with them now though. Some of my best friends are super into Radiohead.
Not my favorite Radiohead but damn if it isn’t five stars, I don’t know what is.
It's just immaculate
I can't listen to this album casually. It's like when I stumble on the Godfather while channel surfing. I have to watch it, and I get totally involved in it all over again. Amazing.
10/10 groundbreaking classic album.
What an album this is. The weakest track is perhaps Airbag, and it just gets better and better after that. Two thoughts: it's another example of the law of threes, completing the explosive growth from their debut through the Bends. After this it's a violent left turn with Kid A. Secondly, most of this album passes the 'busker test' therefore a proper tunes - Lucky, Paranoid Android, Karma Police could all work on an Amsterdam street corner with some guy with an acoustic guitar. Kid A, again not so much.
What else can be said...an absolute masterpiece by what has historically been my favorite band. What an amazing bridge from the "alternative" era sounds of the Bends to the genre pushing behemoths they exemplified from this point forward. 2 of my top five RH songs ever on the front half (Paranoid Android & Let Down...which was my go-to song on 5 am drives to winter swim practice in high school). Not a bad song on the album...even fitter happier has a place. 5/5
Definitely understand the comparisons between radiohead and muse so it's no surprise I enjoyed this as much as I did
Timeless masterpiece.
I’m on the side that this is Radioheads best work and the best album of the 90s. I think I would have heard this whole thing first when my friend Alex (who I have to credit with so much musical influence on me and he had the best CD collection) lent it to me. Would have been around 2003-4. This is an album I come back to maybe every 2-3 years and am just completely bowled over by. What a journey.
Its the best album of the 90s by a mile. Its revolutionary, raw and spectacullar
An amazingly influential album.
Absolute masterpiece. For years I believed this was Radioheads peak, but I have a lot more time for Kid A these days. But given OK computer is slightly more accessible for traditional rock music fans and should be listened to before venturing into KID A. I think this is still their best album, but my opinion might change again tomorrow… 5 star album no doubts about it, one of the best from the 90’s.
One of the all-time classics. I am very glad that this was the first album to pop up on the list. It continues to get better after every individual listens, and I always seem to find something new in the mix. 10/10
I've run out of adjectives to describe this album quite a few years ago. But if I had to use a single word now, it would be "timeless". In the mid to late 90's, where alt rock was still following the trends of grunge, Radiohead decided to go against the tide, and created something unique, hard to describe. The soundscape of a dystopian future, eerily current even now, more than 25 years after it's release. The scariest part, is that Radiohead didn't even peak here.
Genius album. Was there on release day and one of my favourite bands.
This is one of those albums with a big reputation. It can be easy to get lost in the amount of praise this album gets. I’ve actually never listened to the whole album before this. I just listened to this album as an album. Even if this album wasn’t as influential and impactful as it was, it’s a great album. This is a great middle ground between the guitar based music and the more electronic based sound. I don’t know how many people think of this album as a concept album, but it’s an interesting almost prophecy of what life would be like in the future. This is an important album paving the sound of the 21st century, when many bands tried to recreate this album. This is a one of a kind album that greatly deserves its praise.
Genre: Rock, Experimental rock Review: Considered their magnum opus, and it certainly felt that way listening to it. Paranoid Android stands out but the rest is pretty top-grade too. Rating: 9/10
One of the best alternative albums in history. What more can be said? I only wonder which thematic a 2023 OK computer could have? How should we call it? #OKAI maybe? Would it deal with the paradoxes that surround us? Like despite all out progress we did not have the best responses to social events? Or how AI is going to put us in a A Brave New World like dystopia? Or how we find new ways to fuck with our psyche with social media and synthetic drugs? #WeHopeThatYouChoke
What can I say about this album that hasn't been said already. One of the greatest albums of all time and one of my personal favourites as well.
I don't know what it is, but Radiohead has got it
FOR A MINUTE THERE I LOST MYSEEEEEEELFFFFFFF
go outside and shower guys
I really love this album. I'm a big fan of Radiohead but this is a very good album. No surprise being one of my favorites along with all the popular ones. Thom has such a unique and enjoyable voice. They have such a great sound.
Loved this one. I knew 2 songs coming in, both on my list, and added 3 more. Great sound all together. There were a few songs I liked notably less than others, but nothing I would say I 'disliked'. Classic album of one of my favorite eras, hard to go wrong there. 9/10
Sitting in an old car in a university carpark I truly discovered something beautiful. I remember it vividly. Sitting in the Sydney entertainment centre I experienced this beautiful thing live. What a light show. What a live performance. Sitting in my study I listen again. And I still truly listen deeply. After over 25 years . OK Computer is one of the best. Ever.
A couple of the songs don't quite hit for me, but otherwise this album is almost pure genius. Take a liberal dose of Britrock/pop melodic sensibility and add some amazing experimental instrumentation and harmonic movement and cerebral ideas and lyrics. An absolute classic.
Masterpiece. Favorite track: Let Down
- Awesome mix of a variety of sounds and styles - Interesting concept and themes - Perfect blend of experimental and easy to listen to - Favorite songs: Karma Police, Electioneering, Subterranean Homesick Alien
- He doesn’t enunciate very well, gives them their uniqueness - Paranoid Android is so complex and compelling, what a fantastic song - Artsy Dystopian Post-Punk Grunge Prog Rock - One of the best storytelling albums I’ve heard, like a beautifully eerie poem - Let Down is my favorite I think
Radiohead's third album is the last one of their alt-rock phase. And it's a phenomenal. Experimentation reigns supreme here, be it in the form of song structure (Paranoid Android) or of a collection of buzz words of the 90s spoken by an Apple Computer (Fitter Happier). Elsewhere, we have depressing, yet hauntingly beautiful melodies (Exit Music (For a Film), No Surprises, or even the final part of Paranoid Android) or simply great songs and hooks (Karma Police). There is not a single bad song to be found anywhere here. This is a truly iconic masterpiece of an album. 5/5
cmon now
Already listened
Widely hailed as Radiohead's masterpiece, this one proved that The Bends wasn't just a fluke. As relevant as ever, and still sounds fresh over 25 years later. This is one of those classic albums that should age very well, and remain a mainstay for music fans for decades to come.
Karma Police, Lucky, Subterranean Homesick Alien, Paranoid Android... NO SURPRISES?! Some of my favourite Radiohead material
It's not even my favourite Radiohead album but it still achieves the 5. I don't really have much to add to the discourse on it; yeah it's prophetic, yeah it bridges their two styles really well, yeah it's hugely influential. It's just very good. It feels like an album for public transport on a cold day, surrounded by people, but still alone. 14/02/23
Is it the intimate, non-pompous spin of the "we live in society" trope? Or the surprisingly fresh guitar-based sound? Or maybe just the general, oddly comforting yet dark atmosphere of it. What else can be said about one of my favorite albums ever? Instant 5. And for the last time, no I'm not depressed.
This is the album that was there when I wondered “what else is out there?” Grunge was getting past its heyday. The new stuff (nü metal) coming out was horrific. I loved how OK Computer went in so many different directions than what I was used to. This will always be high on the list for me.
I mean what can be said about this masterpiece that hasn’t already been said. It’s possibly my favorite album of all time. It’s top 3, and my top 3 are interchangeable at any given time. The layers, complexity, and contrast that Radiohead puts into their production is my biggest turn on for them. One of my favorite songs of all time is Paranoid Android for that reason. This album is the ultimate masterpiece and a true timeless standard that every album tries to attain. There was a long period in my life where it was a rarity if I didn’t listen to it at least once a day. Beautiful… this is my longest review for good reason, it’s beyond perfect! 5. TBz 1. Paranoid Android 2. Karma Police 3. Climbing Up the Walls 4. Lucky 5. Exit Music (For A Film) 6. No Surprises
This album is in very heavy rotation in all of the albums I listen to at home. One of the few that I can listen to every track on the album and be perfectly happy.
Incredible album, which def deserves a spot here.
Radiohead?? Don’t think I’ve ever heard of them before. Definitely got some Billie Eilish vibes going on. Really dig it. Sounds like it’d be perfect for a bright sunny day in Monterey
Almost as good as Billie eyelash
5.0 + I think I can sing every lyric and guitar riff from memory. Fuck the haters, this album is a GOAT.
My first five. I sang along with some songs I haven’t heard in 20 years. This might be too subjective a reason, but I’m going to choose to lean into it. People go on about Kid A, but OK Computer is my Kid A.
Masterpiece
Always has been, always will be, one of my favourite albums.
The peak of 90's Radiohead, and, for those who might not appreciate the more experimental route Radiohead would take into the 00's and beyond (except for 'Kid A', you HAVE to appreciate 'Kid A'), arguably the band's best album. Seriously - this is just track after track of brilliant music. The incredibly rich arrangements of "Airbag", the hard-hitting transitions of "Paranoid Android", the melodic perfection of "Let Down", the stark beauty of "No Surprises" or "Climbing Up the Walls". The album is also commendable for its often poignant and haunting lyrics, touching on the ordinary and mundane in a way that helps to make them relatable and all the more impactful, much like Pink Floyd did in their hay-day. Easily one of the best albums of the 1990's - the sort of album you wish you could give 6 stars to.
OK Computer was one of my first great album purchases and I listened to it over and over again in middle and high school. Formative experience for me. As soon as the opening riff on "Airbag" started I was suddenly taken back. This album has it all. There are awesome, face-melting rock riffs ("Paranoid Android", "Electioneering", "Climbing up the Walls"), beautiful multi-part harmonies (basically every track), tender melancholic songs ("Subterranean Homesick Alien", "Let Down"), pop hooks ("Karma Police", "No Surprises"), and weird experimental stuff ("Fitter Happier"). And every song gives me the feels in some way. I said in my review of In Rainbows that I thought it was my favorite Radiohead album but I may have been wrong. This is a really, really fantastic album. 5 stars.
I have always rated Radiohead quite highly, but it was never a band I would call my favourite, it was usually an afterthought on any list I made with band I like. Probably one of the reason for that was a fact, that I have never listened to a full album in one sitting. It was always just few songs from this era, few of the other, then top hits and that's all. Today I have listened to the whole OK Computer in one go, and I have to admit, that's the way to do it. Songs are creating a specific atmosphere and context for other songs, and with that in mind, it is much more pleasurable experience. Every track has something special in it, the style is very unique, especially for 90s, but it holds on, even as the 30th anniversary of the release is coming along. Also, I noticed how similar Thom Yorke's vocal is on this album to whatever Matt Bellamy represents across his career with Muse. I had to check the timelines, but maybe it's possible, that he was inspired by this album? Whatever the answer is, I'm happy to be able to listen to both those bands. And for now, I'm even more happy to give this album a pretty strong five stars.
It’s a classic
Well... Comeon..... 5
Énorme classique Let Down et No surprises sont incroyables
master piece
amazing record. cyber y2k. fav tracks: all
effervescence vampire, mecha girl alternate reality realness, i cannot express how much this album is me i can’t listen to it i experience it fav songs: the entire album. as a collective is an emotional experience while all at the same time everything has its own intense feeling
I really love this one! Such a great album.
One of the greatest Albums ever made. Period!
Holds up. Amazing production!
Up there for GOAT
Music is really good. Being pretentious is not an artistic goal or principle by itself.
would give this album a 6 if i could
Music to have a panic attack by.
I only got to listening it once. From the first listen that scattered throughout the day. 9.5/10, I'm one of those guys that cant fully give a 10/10. As I mentioned only played through once, justifies 9.5/10. Will probably change in the future First listen: Every song is beautiful adventure. I got this sense of artificial emotion but yet it was so real. I wish I could articulate it better. I will be dissecting the album later
Listened Before? Y Ohhh yes. This album and I go way back. I found Kid A earlier on this list, so I assumed this (superior) record would be coming at some point. This album is a complete album. It is one of the few things I can listen to and feel stoned even when I'm cold sober.... and when actually stoned, its something to get absolutely lost in. Amazing. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Karma Police
Greatest alt rock album ever
p798. 1997. 5 stars. Cracking tunes, great vocals, sharp lyrics, even sharper production. Not a weak track on this.
Easily one of the most important albums in my musical education. I was a big Radiohead fan from their start (Pablo Honey). I adored The Bends. But it was OK Computer that elevated them to Gods. What a masterpiece!
This is always going to be a 5.
No comment needed
This is an incredible album from one the greatest group of musicians to ever record music. I used to refer to Radiohead as "our generation's Stones or Beatles" but now I'm looking for the next generation's Radiohead. This is so good, it makes me want to give up on recently released music completely. Listen to Exit Music or No Surprises and you'll agree.
Instant classic. Loved it.
Quite an important album to me. I was 17 when "OK Computer" came out. It was quite unlike anything I'd heard before, and it stood in stark contrast to the tedious Britpop that dominated the airwaves at the time. It was weird and geeky, the sound of uncertainty in a world where technology was taking over, and believing in conspiracy theories was fun and silly and not causing the collapse of civilization. Fast-forward 25 years and I still know it inside-out; it's been engraved on my synapses forever. But it's also kinda patchy. For the initial sting of "Airbag" there's the literal let down of "Let Down," "Paranoid Android's" layered despair gives way to "Karma Police," which I never really liked. It's a good album, but, looking back, I feel like "The Bends" is more consistent and coherent.
Fajne
amazing album
Radiohead in optima forma. Great album!
gaydiohead haha rainy vibes
Obviously
All time classic. Not my favorite album of theirs, but has lots of memorable tracks
I listened to this album CONSTANTLY in the late 90s, to the point where my CD version got beat up and scratched and started to skip, but I just kept on listening. Now when I listen to it on Spotify my brain expects it to skip at a couple points and I am viscerally surprised that it doesn't. Which is to say, this is an all time favorite, changed my outlook on music, was the soundtrack to a pivotal time in my young adult life, defined an era, etc. etc. Listening to it 20+ years later, it holds up pretty dang well. In retrospect this was a transitional album as Radiohead started to move away from guitar and into electronic music, and away from sad sack introspection to bigger philosophical themes around technology, late capitalism, postmodernism, etc. It was because of that latter transition that this album captured the zeitgeist and mood of the moment so perfectly. How did they nail that existential millennial anxiety so perfectly? Or did they actually create it? Either way - goosebumps! An important album and one of my all time favorites. 5/5
Great from start to finish.
Its great on the first listen, and then it just keeps getting better every time you play it. 5/5
Never heard of it. OK, seriously. This was one of those albums of the 90s that blew my mind. I do not consider Radiohead "prog rock" like I do not consider Pink Floyd "prog rock". Sure, they will use odd time signatures and whatever else they want to "progress", but they are a band unto its own. Every song on this seems like it's on a completely different album, and yet it all fits together like a jigsaw puzzle. "Exit Music (For A Film)".... god, what an amazing piece. And the thing is that this is not even my favorite album of theirs, but it is definitely the one that made me a fan. I played it for my son once he started listening heavily into Pink Floyd, because I felt that it was the next step. He said it was "good" but I don't think he quite gets it. Yet. Highly recommended.
Another beauty from the 90's. Admittedly I'm a slightly bigger fan of Radiohead's more straight ahead rock album The Bends, but OK Computer is really one of those great albums that must be listened to as a whole. If you just got dropped into it randomly, you may not get it. But starting from Airbag and finishing at The Tourist, it's a seamless and connected journey. For a guy like me there's plenty of great guitar and percussion work to fall back on in songs like Paranoid Android, Electioneering, and Lucky. But even when they experiment (a lot), it's with such cool sounds in songs like Subterranean Homesick Alien, Let Down, Climbing Up the Walls, and No Surprises. And then Thom Yorke is such a brilliant lyricist, even when he's trying to be abstract, with such emotion-grabbing vocals. Karma Police is a great example; beautiful and one of my all-time favorite rock songs. And if you love Radiohead's work in the 90's (perhaps their best period) check out the re-release OK Computer OKNOTOK, with a whole second album of b-sides and unreleased tracks. I Promise off that album maybe surpasses Karma Police in my mind; rawer like Fake Plastic Trees off the Bends, but just beautiful and dripping with desperation and emotion. At any rate, it just goes to show that Radiohead was at their masterful peak around the recording of OK Computer.
On the one hand, this is the album where Radiohead started to get "weird." Their first two albums were excellent and relatively accessible. Albums after this become much more dense, electronic, and difficult to listen to. On the other hand, it's still a fantastic album and deserves all the accolades. I've listened to this album many times but never once read the lyrics until now. They really add to the overall experience and I think that's the word to describe this album - an experience. The lush instrumentation, creative riffs and hooks, often dark, Yorke's plaintive voice, and the poetic (if dense) lyrics. Clear 5, but best when listened to with intention rather than as background.
Radiohead’s 2nd best album (The King of Limbs is their best)
Really calm in a strange way, it has elements of all of the music genres I'm into but each song has a unique style which made it sound like each song was a whole different project but still tying the whole album together
Just a few days removed from Kid A I draw OK Computer. What luck! I could write a paragraph about this one too. It's just a masterpiece. I just wish the themes weren't still so damn relevant. Ugh. I can't praise it enough, that said I could see why people might not love it. It's definitely not a feel good album. I love that Kid A and OK Conputer will be aide by side in my highest rated list. It's the little things in life sometimes.
Perfect
Greatest album of all time.
5 stars even with fitter happier on it. Top notch.
My GOAT
Brilliant album. Lucky is probably amongst my favourite songs of the 90’s.
Classic album
No surprises ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As I said previously, I think Radiohead has one of the greatest and most unique sounds out there. And while some might find that sound to be overly sad or dark, I think it's absolutely achieving its objective. I wouldn't call this a "perfect" album (if such a thing exists), but it certainly rounds to a 5 for me. There are a number of massive hits here, and except for maybe "Fitter Happier" (a style I'm not particularly keen on), the rest of the tracks are solid. Throughout the album, the creativity and musical maturity are strongly evident.
Absolute classic. Love your work Thom and the boys
Well that was a great weekend, back to back 90s classics for totally different reasons. Still my favorite? Radiohead album (The Bends closely ties).
Five stars aren’t enough
I was starting to think I didn’t like radio head with the past two albums. However this album really reoriented my thinking. It’s great and quirky in all the right way
this is just amazing. this album was my introduction to radiohead, and i still absolutely love it
Still a classic 25 years on.
Incredible listen. Hits harder when you’re working while it’s playing.
I've listed to thus countless times. Karma Police, Paranoid Android. Exit music for a film is one of my favorite tracks off the album. Classic all around
Era defining. A ridiculous amount has been written about OK Computer and I doubt I have a fresh perspective. It's many people's favourite Radiohead album, 90s album, indie album, or album ever and deservedly so. It still sounds relevant and fresh - by filtering influences like DJ Shadow, The Beatles, Pink Floyd etc through their own songwriting process, they created something timeless. My highlights are Airbag, Let Down, and Climbing Up The Walls but every song is needed and so well sequenced. You're unlikely to put Fitter Happier in to a playlist but it must be listened to as part of the album - no skipping allowed!
The opus of the first stage of their career.
GOAT
One word 👍🏾!
Half the songs are a little meh but still pretty good, Airbag and Subterranean Homesick Alien absolutely blow me away, No Surprises Paranoid Android and Exit Music also amazing, those songs make the whole album top tier in my opinion. Would buy on CD 👍
OMFG!!
Quite possibly my favorite album of all time.
90s masterpiece
good album
Extrem nicer sound. Erinnert mich sehr stark an Muse!
Really freaking good
Love this album.
Picked up significantly more on the atmosphere of the album this time, surprisingly intimate even though it sounds super big/full
Classic alert! This was one of my favourite albums growing up, and the first Radiohead album that I listened to. There are so many great tracks here
one step ahead of you, already listened to it. pretty amazing
Close to perfect
Has some of my favourite Radiohead songs and is just great as an album. It stays interesting throughout the entire album with a huge variety in sounds.
Heres one that Ive listened to countless times finally This is THE definitive album of the late 90s alt-rock era. This album is a masterpiece start to finish, it never dips in quality and every song is good. The influence this album has on almost every single alternative rock album after it is insane. EASIEST 10/10 we've had so far. One of my favorites of all time
One of the best albums by one of my all-time favorite bands. I can still remember hearing Paranoid Android for the first time, stunned by how different and compelling and beautiful it was. There is so much beauty in the music of OK Computer. I love the way Radiohead displays their mastery in the use of peaks and valleys. Producing swelling crescendos in Exit Music (For a Film), No Suprises, and Let Down, that burst into being and fade into the ending. The theme of feeling like a stranger is given sci-fi context in many places throughout the album, but I can’t help feeling comforted by the warm layers of grooving textures in every song. Love this one so much!
My generation’s Revolver
This was so so so good. I don’t know how I’ve only listened to a few songs on this in passing. I added at least half of these songs to my playlist. I may or may not have listened to this album throughout the whole day and had a minor obsession with it. It gets so energetic and fun while he has such a good voice
RADIOBEAAAAD
One of my favourite albums ever!
Absolutely classic. 5 stars without a doubt!
bem bom os fadinho, curti
wonderfully put together album. could listen over and over again for hours. this album is truly one of the best, it deserves the place it has on this list. timeless alt rock.
https://youtu.be/q13NRoG6mvs
Beautifully intuitive album
Bought this album at the time of release and it’s stood the rest of time. I loved their previous album, which was immense. This is different but equally good/better! True masterpiece. Loved listening to it from beginning to end, brought back lots of memories, like a warm blanket.
i already listened to this album LOLOLOL this album is actually pretty good, obvious highlights include paranoid android, exit music (for a film), karma police, climbing up the walls, and no surprises. as the first radiohead album i have ever listened to, i gotta say that, though the fanbase may be a little weird at times, i totally see where the love for this album is coming from.
Very cool Thom
One of the best albums ever! Truly ahead of its time
It’s fucking OK Computer
I mean I can literally play the entire album in my head beginning to end I’ve listened to it so much. One of the greats.
I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Radiohead-at-their-best, but this is certainly the band in that register. It helps that I was perfectly primed for this listen. I'm in an electroacoustic-reading mood, and OK Computer has plenty of that in its DNA. That presence is more clear than that ascribed to jazz or prog. Yet Radiohead doesn't dive all the way into the experimental mode which fails for me. The record is packed, but packed with beautiful songs.
Pivotal album. Really the turning point for Radiohead moving away from guitar-driven music and creating something truly unique. Really the only track that I feel reaches somewhat backwards is "Karma Police". Fun to return to this album in its entirety. I still feel like the album is rather front-loaded, but works well as a whole. "Paranoid Android", "Let Down", and "No Surprises" are still my favs.
I listen to this album more often than others. Its a 5 all the way. Let Down is consistently on on my top track list.
Incredible
Paranoid Android 10/10 Exit Music (for a film) 10/10 Overall 10/10
Glovely 4.5
One word; great
Unquestionably iconic, important, influential album. Hadn't really listened to it in a while, and it just washed over me in all its anxious beauty.
What is there to say about this album. It's an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. It's also the beginning of one of the greatest three album runs in the history of recorded music. What's more, the more I listen to this album, the more I like it. It just works on every level. Even songs that I would find annoying on a lesser album, like Fitter Happier manage to fit into this album. It's dark and beautiful, wounded yet resilient. 5/5
The album is relaxing and amazing I want to get into more Radiohead
One of the best albums ever made.
This is undoubtedly one of the best albums of all time. I was going to list my favorite songs, but then I realized I was just typing all the tracks on here in order. Even "Fitter Happier", which is a text to speech program coldly reading words from a list manages to make me emotional. Seriously can't name a single thing I dislike about this album. Not only is this a 5/5, it's also a 10/10. Love these little British music goblins. Looking forward to giving The Bends the same score as well. Maybe Kid A as well.
‘OK Computer’ is that nice mid-point between Radiohead’s earlier, straight forward guitar rock and the more experimental, electronic path they would take with ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesiac’. It’s also better than I remember, and has uncannily ended up being as relevant today (probably more so) than when it was released. It captures that quiet sense of desperation, alienation, isolation, loneliness, and paranoia we all feel in modern society. Feelings that were always there lurking in the background, but which have really come to the fore over the last few years, what with a global pandemic and lockdowns, the rise and rise of surveillance by overreaching governments, our reliance on tech in general, our obsession with social media, the outbreak of war in Ukraine, our shitty corporate jobs getting even shittier, the mindless commodification of every aspect of our lives: and this is just the tip of the iceberg. ‘OK Computer’ taps into all of this and more. Its an album that’s direct enough to speak to us in the here and now, but ambiguous enough that it will always sound current in future times.
This is one of the best top-to-bottom albums I ever heard. Usually, when I'm disappointed in an album it's because I'm hoping I'll feel about it the way I feel about this one on the first listen. This is the peak of Radiohead's work. Everything after this feels like interesting ideas but not a cohesive whole. I also had way more time on my hands when this came out than I do now so who knows.
okkkkkkk iconicccccc 🤖🤖
This is probably my favorite album of all time so a very easy review for this one. Everything about this is so well done. 10/10
Automatic 5 for me, this is my most listened to Radiohead album and it's just perfect.
kml
Karma Police has been stuck in my head for 15 years.
Epic, important and progressive rock music. They rejected Britpop and created a masterpiece of textured, sometimes hook-laden rock that definitely was not easy or formulaic. Great.
Super good, love the sound and style of this album. One of my favorites.
ok
Awesome album. Definitely not a mood lifter, but it pinpoints so many topics that are still relevant today, or even more relevant today that they were 25 years ago. Radiohead always delivers. 10/10
9/10 really good
Great album. 9/10
This is likely my all time favorite album from one of my all time favorite groups. What seemed like an apocalyptic glimpse into what might be instead is a disturbingly accurate description of this century. OK COMPUTER is the soundtrack to the disillusionment I have experienced as I witness technology’s total inability to deliver us from our own evils. And yet even as we ignore its dire warning this album is one of a very few that lit my way through some of the darker passages my life has taken. I cannot overstate its importance to me over the last 20 years. The best album to come out of the 90’s still sounds like it is one step ahead of us.
Easy
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this album and Radiohead in general.
Good album, only one strange track
Yeah duh.
Very good! Liked it a lot, but I knew that already. Favorite songs: Airbag, electioneering
Lyriikat myös natsaa tunnelmaan usein just eikä melkein.
19th March 2022 Started on the Friday but finished on Monday. Had mum and dad come to stay for the weekend, took sprout to get spayed, national gallery etc. One of the greats. Could have picked one of No Surprises, Karma Police, Exit Music for the playlist but went for Paranoid Android for the baseline. Unbelievable album, rewards consistent listening.
[Cracks knuckles in anticipation of a treatise on Radiohead...] This record rescued my musical tastes. I really believe that. I was riding the Smashing Pumpkins wave that crested in 1995-1997, which had rescued me from my early guitar bands boredom (no offense Nirvana and Bush). While most popular rock music just kept huffing its own fumes until Creed's Human Clay was shat upon the world's ears, Radiohead were getting weirder and better. It was phenomenally important for me to hear a NEW band with this sense of melody, technicality, and sense of adventure. It's the first band that was releasing music where I felt "in on it." Like, I was anticipating in real time what might happen next. Also, it can't be overstated how macho rock became in the late 90s. It felt dirty to me even if I wouldn't have articulated that. Thom Yorke and this band were so unconcerned about looking like ballsy rockers. I loved that. "Subterranean Homesick Alien" is one of the best pop/rock songs I've ever heard. Lyrically, musically. As with all my favorite bands, I can't pick a favorite record. But this one, "In Rainbows" and "Amnesiac" are all vying for the spot at the top of the list, for me. Until I got into Steely Dan, this record was my go-to "test the sound of the stereo/PA." Also, it was the first new music I had listened to since the late 80s that my dad and I really agreed on. He heard "Paranoid Android" and was really into that. It made me feel good to have that approval when we had been arguing about music more often than not for the few years before that. I'm sure he was relieved to hear this coming from my speakers rather than Tool.
The second of three Radiohead albums in a row that shattered expectations based on the previous one. Who else has done that?
Proof that classic albums were not only made in the sixties and seventies. Still mind-blowing more than twenty years after its release.
Quite simply a masterpiece. Each song is a cinematic journey that delivers in every way possible. I used to think that The Bends is a better album, but that simply isn't true. It might be a more exciting listen, but can't equal the drama and quality of songwriting on OK Computer. 5 🌟
10/10 Best Song - Let Down
No bad songs, great mix, mastery, flow - a very familiar album that I love
Fantastic
A mythical rock classic now, a bold experiment in sound and songwriting then. Really good songs is what makes it really work.
For me, it's one of the greatest albums ever recorded. This record has held a special place in my collection and my heart since I was given a copy on cassette in '97 (by my mate Ben, again!). The fact that people moan about Radiohead being whingers etc, etc, yawn, yawn, just makes me love them more. If my wife whinged like this I'd happily listen to her doing it all day long. Exit Music for Film will probably be played as my coffin trundles through those little red velvet curtains.
For years I didn't get this album, or Radiohead. Then one day I decided to listen to it properly on the train on the way to work. I realised I was utterly and completely wrong; OK Computer is one of the great albums. It's nice to be wrong.
Initially left no review for this LP, because what else is there to say that hasn't been said? After listening back for the recent run of live shows, all I have to add is how shockingly prescient this album was for its time. The ever-present sense of paranoia, technological skepticism, and (at times) hopelessness that defines the world of OK Computer is a dead-ringer for the 21st century outlook as our lives are fed into the woodchipper of capitalism and half-baked AI consumes entire livelihoods and the planet itself. Kudos to Thom and Co. for not only envisioning the future but turning it into one of the most haunting, beautiful albums of our time.
Takes me back to uni... I think I'd probably still give this album 5 stars even without the nostalgia bump, though. Some absolute tunes on here. Fave track - "Paranoid Android" - love that weirdness!
I mean literally one of the most important albums of my life. There's no functional way to be objective about this. Good album. Would obsess over again. A+
