Better than average. I'm sure this globally will get plenty of 5s but it's not quite there for me.

I've listened to this twice now, and I've come to the conclusion that it's really good. There's some great upbeat numbers, as well as some really nice ballads. It's pretty consistently quality throughout, and the instrumentation is on point. It's got a real easy listening vibe to it. I'm going a solid 4/5. But... you know, that's just, like, my opinion, man.

3 songs added hotel California ,New kid in town , life in the fast lane 9.0

Three songs in, I thought I was headed for an easy 5 but it goes a bit soft rock in the second half and overall just has a middle-of-the-roady feel to it. Title track and Life in the Fast Lane are brilliant though and generally just enjoyed it a couple of times through.

Hotel California and life in the fast lane speak for themselves. The rest of the album was just some great easy listening

4 star album for me. I love the songs I know, I liked the songs I didn’t, and I felt like the pacing was good. “Victim of Love” was a new one for me, and I liked the guitar in it. Would listen again.

Classique

So good and classic. Had a few songs I didn’t know were theirs.

I was genuinely shocked to read some of the other reviews on here. This album holds a special place for me, as it was a staple in my father's collection; making it an important part of the soundtrack of my youth. The guitar, the harmonies and the melodies are so familiar and comforting. It definitely drops off near the end for me, but it's certainly earned a spot as one of the most important records in my books.

Omg a whole orchestra , musical masterpiece. Actually so beautiful love album almost bringing me to tears. Not a big fan of the last song it was too religious and about god but sounded good

Really good album. A few really strong tracks obviously but the other lesser known songs didn't resonate as strongly for me. I would listen to 5 of these songs on repeat and never listen to the others again.

Easy listenin. I wasn’t blown away but it was enjoyable to listen to this album! Obviously we had the hits, and for good reason, but all the others were nice too.

Eagles are a pretty vanilla band. I wanted to hate this, but Joe Walsh's guitar licks won me over.

This was such a huge album. Haven't listened to it in years. Coincidentally - and I find this extremely weird - Hotel California came up in today's news and as today's 1001 pick: _____ NEW YORK (AP) — A criminal case involving handwritten lyrics to the classic rock megahit “Hotel California” and other Eagles favorites went to trial Wednesday in New York, with three men accused of scheming to thwart band co-founder Don Henley’s efforts to reclaim the allegedly ill-gotten documents. The trial concerns about 100 pages of drafts of the words to songs from the 1976 release “Hotel California,” which is the third-biggest selling album ever in the U.S. _____ Produced by Bill Szymczyk: mandatory headphones. This album is where The Eagles took over the world - Bernie Leadon was gone (along with his country influence) and Joe Walsh was in (along with his hard rock influence). One of my favorite lines ever: "...she was terminally pretty." As great as this album is, it's also almost too perfect, too polished. But I guess you could say that about any Eagles album. This was around the time I kind of soured on them. They'd become more of a corporate machine than a band. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 46 🎧 LPs left to review: 955 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 11 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 15 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 11

Just seeing an Eagles album made me think of my Uncle Jeff. Man he hated these guys and their music. I think anybody over 40 knows the first 3 songs and Victim of Love. Hotel California is one of those songs ruined by radio when I was younger, but I can still recognize as a good song. I do still appreciate hearing Victim of Love, but the real story here is the rest of the songs on the album. Maybe they faded away from my memory over time, but damn, I was surprised how much those songs were my favorite listens. Wasted Time was very good. I do like Don Henley's voice and a lot of his solo stuff. This song and Joe Walsh's Pretty Maids All in a Row were my favorite songs off the album. Hell even the country song Try Love and Love Again was solid. Favorite songs, Wasted Time, Pretty Maids, The Last Resort and Try and Love again. Life in the Fast Lane always makes me think of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Who didn't love the movie? I really enjoyed my listen and would have no problem throwing this album on again. I'd probably skip first 3 due to overplayed on the radio, but again, still solid songs. This album surprised me in a good way. This is a solid 4 for me and I know Uncle Jeff just had a cold shiver shoot down his spine. Ha. 4

Enjoyed it.

Good album. "Hotel California" and "Life in the Fast Lane" are rightfully classics, and I also appreciated "Victim of Love" quite a bit. However, about 50% of these songs didn't connect with me more than as decent background music.

This album opens up with an absolute classic Hotel California and it absolutely deserves all the hype. I’ve heard the song plenty of times, but it just never gets old. Anyway, the album does have a few weak tracks including the overrated Life in the Fast Lane and the cheesy Wasted Time. I was worried at this point that the album would go into downward spiral of cheesiness, but Pretty Maids All in a Row, though cheesy, was pretty solid and the last two tracks were pretty great and closed out the album on a high note.

I'd never heard the album all-in-one before, but I have heard most of the songs previously. This is solid music. Not every track on here is a keeper, but there's a reason like 1/2 this album is in their Hell Freezes Over tour. Linda Ronstadt was right to encourage them to create their own band!

Classic

The Eagles have amazing harmonies and catchy lyrics.

Don’t think I’d ever listened all the way through this album. There were only two I didn’t know.

Good. One of the classics

Solid rock album, wonderful harmonies, nice hearing a little more of the eagles deep cuts as I’ve never listened to the full album.

Very solid album with many classic Eagle songs and some new ones that I had not previously heard, but really liked. Frey and Henley do such a great job sharing vocals. Guitar is great throughout the album.

The Eagles know how to make a long song not sound boring or drab. Such a great listen overall.

What a pleasant surprise. I had the same mindset for this album coming into it as So by Peter Gabriel of even if all the songs on it are purely mid its getting a four because Hotel California (the song) is just that good. It has one of the most rad guitar licks in existence and is such an incredible song lyrically, musically, and emotionally. The album itself was great as well, the songs were flowing and poetic. Musically it was a nice mix of rock and piano/strings on some of them so very nice variety. Very solid album.

Definately a alt-rock vibe. Can enjoy on a lazy afternoon. 4/5.

I'm pretty happy with this one! 4/5 "Would enjoy listening to it again!"

Goed album hoor.

Feels like you are where the album photo is, like watching a sundown or just after sundown and you are on your way home, at the same time its warm out :) (i also feel like this is like a dad album? if that makes any sense hehe)

Really liked it. Pretty good all the way through

Talkers are losers and fools is one of the craziest lines in a song Amazing loved it got kinda jesusy at the end

Vibes are cool as fuck. Good record to chill with. Classic

Good album. Definitely will listen more

Lot of good jams on here.

I know people like to crap on the Eagles these days. But this was a really good album.

It's tough to rate this album. Some classics, but a bit too soft rock at times.

Adjusted for nostalgia

Better than I was expecting for some reason? It did not overstay its welcome, and it was enjoyable music!

Fun made me dance in the kitchen

a classic

Iconic album.

The Eagles are a seminal American band and this is a classic

- starting with an everlasting banger, a Hotel California would’ve been a very trippy mind-blowing tune to hear for the first time. - followed by another solid jam, New Kid in Town - the opening licks of Life in the Fast Lane lead to some pregnancies for sure (so far, this is not the soft ballad-heavy album I was expecting; stellar funky jams so far) - ok there’s the soft ballad lol but the string instruments are gorgeous. The other slower/softer songs are nice too. Overall less cheese factor than I was expecting and more funk. Great listen!

Listened to "Wasted Time" and main takeaway was the vocals are just so mournful and rich, I can't think of any songs that are like that nowadays.

one of those classic rock albums that you just have to like, many songs added to the summer mix. something for everyone - more romantic sounding slow stuff like New Kid in Town to songs like Life in the Fast Lane and Victim of Love that are just classic 70’s rock chunes. also points for some beautiful piano. exactly what I expected from the little Eagles stuff I already knew. not an every day listen pour moi but objectively musically great

fave track: try and love again final thoughts: maybe these old white men are onto something...

Yes the title track is one of the most ‘overplayed’ classic rock tracks and I still probably hear it once a week but it’s still awesome and the rest of the album is great too.

Ok bisher bestes Album für mich!!! Wie gut ist das bitte.

The way it opens with the slowly building guitar & melody. A classic album that always sounds perfect for a summer night.

Love 'em or hate 'em, this is peak Eagles. For me the dual guitar solo of Hotel California is just epic and memorable for an impressionable 5 year old at the time. Same with the guitar riff for Life in the Fast Lane. I didn't appreciate Victim of Love and Wasted Time until I was older. I had not really listened to the back half of the album, so it was nice to hear Joe Walsh's contribution Pretty Maids All in a Row and Randy Meisner's Try and Love Again, which (harkening back to their earlier sound with Bernie Leadon) was my favorite surprise.

Sympathisch man kann sich unterhalten

Yeah it’s good. The last song was a let down for a finale to an otherwise strong album. Bad song. Hate it

It’s a classic. A classic rock classic.

That's classic if i've ever seen one. They got the feeling and sweet-talk.

I wanted to love this album as I know my father does but I honestly found it kind of sleepy.

Will never understand the hate for The Eagles. This is just fantastic songsmanship from start to finish.

Just how great the Eagles 'Hotel California' is is present here in the comments for this project. Those who get it justifiably give it the 4 or 5 stars it clearly deserves. Those that don't get it, mostly in the younger generations that weren't present for the rise of the Eagles and their greatness just brush it off as Dad-Rock or Boomer-Doomer music. This album is amazing and the naysayers are lucky that the Eagles Greatest Hits Vol. 2 isn't on this list because that album should take this ones place. 4.5/5

Obviously a classic. Essentially a super-group they have really well constructed songs that are catchy yet technologically very sound.

Very good album with both slower and faster cuts. Epic closing track.

Highlights: Hotel California, Life In the Fast Lane Leave Em's: Wasted Time Overall Thoughts: This album includes one of the most interesting and great songs of all time, which shares a name with the project title. The album feels top heavy to me and once the group settles back into their soft rock, love song ballads in the back half of the album they lost some points. I think the group could have built on the mystery and themes of the song Hotel California and maintained the theme throughout the album. What we received from the Eagles is still very good and the start and the end of the album are nearly impeccable. I think if the group subbed in one more song about sin/vices instead of back to back to back soft love songs we would be looking at a perfect album. Alas, I have this album just short of a perfect score. Score Breakdown: 4.05 & 5 -> 4.525

1. Hotel California. I get asked to play this a lot by older men, so approaching this song is like visting a drunk Uncle whose inappropriate stories I've heard too many times, but when I get through the door, I forget how much I appreciate the ambience. Found a live acoustic version - loved the guitar sound, minimal drums and the general space/air in the arrangement.

HL: title track, “New Kid in Town”, “Life in the Fast Lane”, “Victim of Love”, “Try and Love Again” I’ve been craving some cheese, and here you are Prefer the rockier songs (bar “New Kid” and maybe “Wasted Time”), though I can go for an Eagles ballad generally speaking. “Desperado” anyone?

Like rumours, both self indulgent nonsense and one of the great albums of all time. I’ll never forgive that film for stating that the lead coulbt stand the eagles. Dumb and ignorant and allowed too many bros to stop listening to a high level of songwriting and musicality. I don’t know. It’s a wonderful artefact of a certain type of culture. But released the same time as a million other equally good records that do nowhere as well. 10 stars. 2 stars. Averaged to 4. Fight me, I don’t care. I’ll cut you.

I was a huge Joe Walsh fan - The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get was one of my favourite early 70’s albums. I also quite enjoyed a lot of Eagles tracks, so when Walsh joined the band, I had no idea what to expect, because his stuff was a lot rockier than what The Eagles were doing. Without him there would have been no Life In The Fast Lane and the title song would not have been as interesting. They never sounded the same after Walsh joined. The harmonies were always interesting & I have to say I always liked Henley’s voice. A few years ago Dylan claimed Pretty Maids All In A Row was his favourite Eagles song (Walsh on vocals & he wrote it). I always thought the album copped an unfair hiding over the years. I think it was more to do with people’s perceptions of the band, the west cost, cocaine thing of the 70’s than the actual music. I always enjoyed this album.

Sometimes you hear a song at karaoke so many times that you forget that it’s still a really good sone. Hotel California is a fantastic song, killer reggae style baseline in a way that I’ve never noticed. The vocal melody isn’t super interesting in that song but it fits well. Amazing guitar work through the whole album. Mixture of country vibes and classic rock throughout. Really enjoyed the album as a whole.

I've always liked the Eagles. My previous exposure has been limited to compilations and best of albums, this was my first experience of an album release and I was very impressed. There was not one weak track. They really were an amazing band.

This is a good album. I had only listened to Hotel California before, and I still think it's the best song on the album, but the rest of the songs on the album are also really good. The album didn't completely wow me though, and I can't put into words why. 4/5 Favorite song: Hotel California (a classic for a reason) Worst song: The Last Resort (I think it's too long)

"Hotel California" (the song) is on a whole nother level, what a masterpiece. Didn't realize "Life In The Fast Lane" was on this album til now. All around, I really enjoyed. Whatever this easy breezy kinda rock is, I like it.

What a classic album! Dad gave me this album on vinyl a few years ago, which is very fitting as I remember Eagles consistently being his favorite band. Their Greatest Hits CD was on heavy rotation in the white ‘98 Ford Expedition for the majority of my childhood. This whole record is just saturated with Dad; I could very clearly hear him singing along on several of these songs. Something that surprises me about this album is the symphony instrumentals next to crunchy guitar solos, hard rock gems mixed with soft, contemplative pieces. It works! A moment to talk about “Hotel California,” possibly the best rock song ever written. I’ve probably listened to this song hundreds of times over the years and can sing along to the whole thing, including the minutes-long guitar solo on the second half, haha. Just listen to this song and notice the power of each different component- the hazy, narrative lyrics, inquisitive bassline, walloping drums, and of course the guitar solos- one of the very best. Your focus can move from one component to the other for a highly entertaining listen. Almost gets better with time-this is one song that has not worn itself out at all for me. I even remember hearing “Hotel California” on the streets of Argentina once, and the portions of the country I was in were utterly insulated from all American music (except a few pop hits). A great experience; this album is a regular listener for me. Four and a half stars, rounded down to four because even for as good this album is, we have barely touched Led Zeppelin and haven’t even started with the Beatles…

1 Banger, rest good 7/10

This was my second time listening to this album and I really don't understand the Eagles criticism I see so much. I think this is a really fun easy to listen to album that deserves praise, especially beyond the very popular songs on the tracklist. I enjoy it.

Some of the songs surprised me, in a good way. Enjoyable listen.

I'm pretty sure this is one of those albums that I'd 'steal' from Dad's collection and listen to, except I always stopped listening after the first song. 🤣😏 Glad I gave it a proper listen through. Great album.

Some absolute classics on here, of course. The album still sounds great as a whole and, considering the high points, is a must-listen for anyone into rock or rock-adjacent genres.

Good album start to finish. Title track still stands far above the rest Favorite track: Hotel California

I’m the 90s listened to the Eagles comeback/greatest hits album a lot. Some of the same songs. So wasn’t looking forward to this, but really enjoyed it. Production of songs was less over the top

First, can we all agree Hotel California was probably THE SONG of the seventies? As for the album: Long in the tooth, and obviously so, but at the same time a classic, and rightly so. Even if it doesn't maintain its own quality standards as it progresses. Tracks wise, Hotel California's guitar solos will probably always melt me away, and many of the others here clearly come off a mature band at its peak.

Nice, new songs

But you just can't Mr. Beast

A Classic rock album that, while definitely sounding of a specific era, has also managed to find timelessness.

I think this album should be played in reverse order. It's first three tracks leave what is otherwise a fine rock album feeling inadequate.

Oprecht fire

I went on a lads holiday in the 1980s and we realised we had no music for the car. The first garage we stopped at had tapes for sale and we agreed to buy one each. There were three of us and I bought this album. I can't even remember what the other two albums were, but this was the one we played the most. The Eagles have that country rock, over-produced feel that I should hate, but I don't; I love this album from start to finish. It could have been made a decade later and would have fitted in just fine, with the slightly cheesy 80s feel it has. There's a tiny dip in quality in the second half of the album, but it's mainly due to the fact that the first side is so strong. I don't think it's quite a 5-star recording, but it's a very strong 4.

Title Track is an all time classic, some hidden gems, and some forgettable tracks.

I grew up on the Eagles’ original Greatest Hits album. This album comes later and kicks off a different sound. You can hear the solo careers of Henley and Frey starting to emerge.

Simple composition of sounds, just guitar(s) and drum, occasionally keyboard. But, you can definitely appreciate all the different things a guitar can do. Contrary to popularity, I like hotel California less than most other songs on this album, something about the vocals I don't like. Kind of beachy/leisurely vibes. My Name is Earl would like this album, simple and classic American tunes. The 2nd wasted time on the album is very pretty! love the violins, bit of a vibe switch up! Try and love again might be my favorite, the only one I added to my likes. Overall: solid album, wouldn't mind listening to it at all, but there is nothing spectacular about it

Good album, I was only familiar with the MASSIVE title track and "Life in the Fast Lane", but the rest of the album was a pleasant surprise. Pretty ballads and great guitar licks. No wonder it is a staple of road trips.

Very melodic album. The opening song is sure to hook you. Possibly the biggest hook for an album opener. All songs flowed off of one another. Perfect length. All killer no filler as they say.

Never really listened to the Eagles before this recommendation (besides Hotel California of course), but I'm glad I did. Absolutely stunning album.

Some bangers, some self indulgent rubbish

I’ve had a bad day and I fuckin hate the eagles, man….is something any big Lebowski fan would say upon seeing this list. But any person that likes classic rock knows hotel California and life in the fast lane are two classic songs that have been played and will be okayed for years to come. This is a solid album but their greatest hits is the best compilation of music a band has made. Will listen again. 8.0/10

A classic California country rock album, with possibly their biggest hit. Darn fine record. 4 stars.

Only really familiar with the title song before listening to the album. Enjoyed it a lot. It did get a little less good at the end, but not enough to ruin it.

4/5 - classic from start to finish, the big numbers are obviously great songs but even the lesser known are still fantastic. Wasted Time was an unexpected highlight.

What a great album, several songs I might revisit particularly Wasted Time, my only complaint is side 2 didn't really keep up the same standard as side 1.

A classic for sure! Title track… that solo is so good! New Kid in Town is a nice song but a little easy listening. Life in the Fast Lane is jam! Wasted Time is a pretty solid ballad! It's pretty safe slow rock, but it is a classic and very well done. I gotta give this at least a 3.5.

fav song - Wasted Time

I was kind of expecting relatively inoffensive dadrock, but I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought. It triggered some nostalgia in me that I didn't know I had, especially Wasting Time.

Overall an enjoyable first listen! Hotel California is a classic - the guitar parts throughout are killer. Also, the track “Try and Love Again” felt very timeless and was quite unexpected compared to the track I was familiar with, “Hotel California.”

An excellent album, bookended by two surprisingly incisive tracks. Definitely coming back to this.

I don't love the ballads on here (or really in general), but Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane are two of the best songs of all time. I'd never heard The Last Resort before and its lyrics shocked me in a good way. Overall very good album and I'm gonna see if the ballads grow on me with additional listens.

Classic, classic rock.

What a classic. My dad really loved this album and played it all the time growing up. I remember we got him a record player for Christmas, and he popped this album in first.

It’s a classic. Not totally my style but overall through and through good.

Chill, good stuff. Reminds me of Steely Dan

"I hate the Eagles, man!" No, it's a good album. Hotel California is overplayed though.

Still a good album

On paper this should be amazing but I leave feeling just as underwhelmed as when I went in: I never quite got the hype around the Eagles, how can they be such a popular band with so many sales and yet me, someone who has taken in a modest amount of music hasn't heard anything other than 'Hotel California'. I feel they fall in the group of famous in America and thus thrown in the greatest of all time category for just that. Didn't mind this album at all, it wasn't all that tho.

This sounds like an American band trying to sound like a British band imitating an American band. Anyway, the songs are a bit corny but also really sweet and thoughtful.

Solid album. A few boring ones towards the end but that’s alright.

Great album. Final song is definitely the best on the album. Almost a 5

Great records

Klasyczny rock lat 70' z nutami wpadającymi w ucho, o wiele lepsze niż Coldplay. Długie ballady, świetne wokale i praktycznie brak skipów. 7/10

Memes aside, the title track honestly slaps. The rest of the album is honestly similarly great. Hits a good balance between dark and brooding, but still upbeat and catchy.

3.5 outta 5

Rumors and Hotel California were released in the same year. Goddamn.

Great album only not perfect for me

7/10. The Eagles don't have much of a range of sound, but the sound they do have is good. Unless you get them stuck in the tape deck or something

I’m struck by how much this felt like a Steely Dan album. Even though the lyrics and music are comparatively lacking in complexity, there’s something to be said about the clean production and general disdain for California. 8/10

I've definitely heard of The Eagles and some of their music. However, I’ve never paid close attention, so I didn’t realize until now how much Hotel California, the song, sounds very reggae-influenced. I wonder if that was by design. New Kid in Town and Life in the Fast Lane are decent. The latter being more appealing to me than the former. I’m not a big rock music fan, but this is the kind I’d listen to when/if I felt like listening. Or at least, I thought it was until Wasted Time came on. Nothing wrong with it, but I don’t know how I feel about rock ballads. I associate rock with high energy so Wasted Time didn’t resonate with me. But never fear. We came right back with Victim of Love and that guitar riff. A real head-knocker. But then, we’re hit with another ballad – Pretty Maids All in a Row. I didn’t need it, but I didn’t dislike it as much as Wasted Time. Try and Love Again is a nice midtempo track, and then we end with The Last Resort, another ballad, which has a distinctly country vibe. Once again, I prefer high energy, fast tempo rock, but in all, Hotel California is a good album. I can see why it’s one of the 1001 albums to hear before you die.

this was a very good listen i had only listened to hotel california which was obviously good but the other songs were good too. nice sounding music, nice vocals. good composition. enjoyed.

First 3 tracks are belters, gets middle aged really fast after that

Side A is absolutely perfect. Side B didn’t reach the same heights and a couple of the songs didn’t really do it for me but still what a great album. Rating: 4.3

Very pleasant. Surprised how much of it I recognised. Lovely production. Very musical sounding... Felt like The Byrds meets Flying Buritto Bros. It's a little TOO smooth in places. But I liked it.

Pure Dad Rock and I’m here for it. The vocals are great from all contributors and it’s impossible not to say the music isn’t great as well. The first half is full of energy that gets kind of lost with the more ballad-focused second half. Added to the playlist: Life in the Fast Lane

Solid. Title song is definitely the best, but would listen to whole album again.

Enjoyable classic dad rock, pleasant listen. "Try and Love Again" is underrated, great bassline. Other standout is the iconic title track.

Well, I tried to check out, but …

Two fantastic songs help bring this album up.

Great overall album with a surprise orchestral piece that was outstanding.

Nice Album!

Classic American rock. Should be in everyone's collection.

This is pretty dad for a rock.

Lots of good songs if it was the greatest hits would have been 5 stars

I don't think I had ever listened to this whole album before, it's pretty good. I don't think I'd say the was Abad song on here; some were much better than others, but over all quite enjoyable. 4/5

The downside of the album is just how overplayed it is.

# 34 : Love 'em or hate 'em this is one Classic album I could listen to again. A band at their peak. Last In The Fast lane

Välil tulee fiilis että soittaaks kotkat jotain zz top -covereita, mutta kaikenkaikkiaan aika kiva. Hittibiisiä ei oikein jaksa mutta muuten hyvä. Kyl Eagles toimittaa! 4/5

Some great moments but a little bloodless after so much exposure over the years. Still a very well-constructed album. Thank goodness they brought Joe Walsh on board.

well, i enjoyed this album (dads everywhere rejoice). solid tracks, though they were all about two minutes longer than they needed to be. still, would listen again. more albums should do instrumental reprises of the last track on side A to start side B. favorites: hotel california, wasted time (reprise)

Scrapes a 3 purely for the bomb album cover

Had only really heard the title track. I prefer the rock/blues songs to the more ballad type tunes but on balance a pretty solid dad rock LP.

not huge on the eagles and this has its issues but fuck when it's good it's GOOOOD

A mixed bag. A very strong start to the album with the title track, New Kid and Life in the Fast Lane. Wasted Time is fine too, but thereafter the quality of the tracks falls away. Gets an extra star because of Hotel California, which I could listen to every day

A staple of classic rock. This album contains some of the Eagles' greatest hits (Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, New Kid in Town), but can also be another boring mid-70s soft rock record that was all over the place by this time. The record itself is solid, with a few dull tracks, but it still makes for a good listening experience. 8/10

I liked last resort and the instrumental reprise, and of course hotel California. Good album overall.

It’s not as good as I remember it. Apart from Hotel California the rest seems to be average country rock

Very good

Rock sureño con algún tema muy reconocible. Tranquilo y sosegado. Buenas voces. Buen disco de rock clásico

4/5 Best: Hotel California Worst: Victim of Love

Pretty good. I am a little tired of Hotel California the song but can definitely appreciate it for what it is. 4/5

Always liked the top songs of this album - the last few songs weren’t my style - from Victim of Love, Pretty Maids All in a Row and Try and Love Again - but having jus listening again, I enjoyed the voice and message of The Last Resort

Lots of solid tracks for a variety of moods and feelings. Some earworms, some forgettable songs. Overall enjoyed, but wish it felt more cohesive rather than just a collection of songs.

"Hotel California" is one of the first songs I can remember rolling my eyes at on classic rock radio. I'd thought the song was awesome the first dozen or so times I'd heard it (just about all of the songs on Q104.3 were new to me when I was 12 and I was soaking them up like a sponge) but as I got a little older and starting developing my personal tastes, the lyrics of "Hotel California" started to sound cheesy and silly. I'd either switch the station if it came on or leave it on and make fun of it. I've since come back around to the song. It's massively overplayed and is bound to get on anyone's nerves if they hear it every day but that's not really the song's fault. It's an epic rock song and supremely catchy. And even though the lyrics are a bit clichéd, I also think they hold a certain hokey wisdom. But I think learning to hate songs like this is an important part of developing taste as a teenager so I'm grateful for the years I spent groaning at it. This whole album is excellent. I didn't know the Eagles sang "Life in the Fast Lane" and "Victim of Love." Solid hard rock songs! And the album cuts are really good here too. There are some country-tinged soft rock gems here.

I have a sour taste in my mouth these days about the Eagles because they copywrite-strike just about everything on the internet that contains anything related to their music. I've had many times where I've been watching a video on youtube of someone talking about "the greatest guitar riffs of all time" or "the top 50 classic rock songs" and when they get to "Hotel California" the person has to say "hey this next one I can't play even a few seconds of the song but it rhymes with shmobel malifornia". I've even heard full video rants on youtube where a creator has had videos demonetized because it contained a few seconds of an Eagles song. Bleh. Anyway, "Hotel California" is one of the best songs to ever come out of this country and it alone deserves a spot on this list. It's kind of funny for me to hear the rest of the album because I really haven't heard many of these songs- or atleast I don't remember them. I do remember "Life in the Fast lane" though. They have a great way of writing choruses that have no rush to them. I find it to be really common for musicians to naturally and organically speed up portions of their songs (often choruses) and this is counteracted by recording to a click track, but this feels like it goes even further. The choruses really take their time and don't feel any rush at all. The chorus of "New Kid in Town" does it really well. This is a hard vote for me. Hotel California makes me think it's a 4 but there's really not a lot of other tracks that are close to it on this record. I want to give it a high 3 really bad but the title track is just too good.

I know the Eagles are hated and plastic, but I grew up listening to my dad's band play a lot of this stuff, so it is just burned into my soul

I'm usually not in the mood for this type of music, but I'll admit this has a lot of bangers on it. The title track is still overplayed af, but in the context of the rest of the album I really like it. Solid 4.

It could just be the title track alone and still deserve this.

The album that defined a generation of crusty, biker-wannabe, Chevy drivers. Not that it's a bad album. I just didn't let it shape my entire lifestyle.

I hadn't paid much attention to the Eagles before Joe Walsh joined them on this album, but I quickly became a devotee of Don Henley and Glenn Frey and the Eagles in general.

Sure the title track has been played to death to the point of acoustical fatigue but it's still a good song. A few other tracks are really good but there's some really bad stuff as well. As much as I like Joe Walsh his addition made the Eagles more of group of solo artist than a band. Earlier records are much better.

This is probably my favorite standalone Eagles album. It's the first one where they sort of shed their country sound and go pure mainstream rock. Maybe a bit too safe or pop for some, but overall, I'm happy when most of the songs on this album come on. And sure, Hotel California has been overplayed, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it's overplayed because it's excellent.

Overall I’d have to say this album is very solid, great consistency throughout with the instrumentation and song writing and a nice collection of longer songs which I think really suit the Eagles style. Stand out tracks are of course ‘Hotel California’ and ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ but I also particularly enjoyed the final track ‘The Last Resort’ too, all 3 songs had a fantastic fill of guitar all throughout. I felt that by being a Frank Ocean fan I should’ve really known that ‘Hotel California’ was sampled for ‘American Wedding’ off of Frank’s debut mixtape ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’ but nevertheless it gave a nice feeling hearing that instrumental again which is what makes me love the track so much and I’m glad a longer track such as that is appreciated as much as it is. Unfortunately I can’t help but think about how poorly the Eagles dealt with Frank sampling the song especially considering Frank’s song ‘American wedding’ was released for free and he gained nothing but some recognition from making the song. Despite this the only issue I have with this album is the ‘Wasted time’ interlude right after the track itself, it’s okay but considering this is 9 songs long I would’ve just preferred another track. Other than that I did quite enjoy this project, it would be something I would come back to however there is something missing about it that stops me from wanting to give it 5/5 but I’m not sure what. Would still recommend this to anyone regardless.

27th March 2023 Listened in the morning while working from home on my own. Jen in aus, painting for the evening. All time classic storytelling with some of the best guitar solos going.

A guilty pleasure that I always enjoy way more than I should. I loved showing the kids the guitar solo at the end of Hotel California, iconic.

I have some appreciation for punk as a social movement, I think would rather listen to this than punk. Just a personal preference thing. Good album.

A classic.

Great album. Easy to listen to. Has one of the most iconic songs of all time.

not too shabby

The title track is one of those that deserves its ubiquity. I've heard it a million times but never really get tired of it, and listening again today I realised that the guitar solo has to be up there with my favourite ever. I'm not sure what to make of the rest. At times it's bland, and I still don't understand how this band got so huge, but I'm starting to realise that they did excel at some things (vocal harmonies and wistfulness, mainly). Also, the lyrical themes and some of the grander arrangements give this album an ambitious, stately feel that I quite like (the 'state' in question being California, I suppose...) 3.5

Classic for a reason.

Good album though tailed off towards the end. Torn between a 3 and 4 but purely for their iconic hotel california, gets a 4

That band that everyone sings one song and you discover that the others are also very good? That was my feeling listening to this album yesterday/today. I liked it a lot!

- oof love New Kid in Town - didn’t expect to know first 3 songs. Into it

“I hate the fuckin eagles man”

Overplayed, but quality.

It's solid. A lot of big hits on here and the deeper cuts aren't too shabby. I just don't see it as being a 5 star album, but I can understand why others might. Without looking I wonder how many other reviews are just parroting rhe Big Lebowski as if they are clever

I really like it, definitely have to listen to it more!

Just because these songs became overfamiliar, doesn't mean it is not brilliant. Desperado of course their best album, 5 star one, but this one (and the long Run)deserve 4 stars.

At first it's a challenge to listen past the title song, but it turns out to be very respectable.

Beautiful album which i associate many memories with. Soulful, powerful, and very euphoric and nostalgic in many ways. One of my personal top 100 albums of all time. I get very feel good and optimistic feelings to most songs in this album.

Nostalgic, I know all the tracks from my father wearing out this album, and musically elite. Harmonies always top notch, and gotta love a band the has most of its songs sung by the drummer.

Obviously Hotel California is an "all-timer" but the rest of the album doesn't quite reach the same heights.

Hotel California is the fifth album by American rock band Eagles. Hotel California is one of the best-selling albums of all time and is also regarded as one of the greatest. It has been certified 26 times Platinum in the US, and is the band's best-selling album after Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975). The title track won Record of the Year at the 20th Grammy Awards. This is a rock masterpiece that accurately & beautifully displays the modern American Dream with music. I always enjoyed the title track of this album, but the rest of the album was just as good. I'm glad I got around to listening to this album!

I’ve just gave 3 albums in a row (Doors , Michael Jackson, Beach Boys) 5/5’s and while this album is certainly great it’s not in that same level to be honest I like it though 4/5.

Wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did mainly because I didn't like Hotel California when I was growing up. After a good listen, I think I do appreciate it more, especially the instrumentals, which are great. Definitely dad music. Fave track(s): Hotel California, New Kid in Town

I have grown to really enjoy the Eagles music. Hotel California- easy 5/5, legendary song New Kid in Town - 3/5 alright song Life in the Fast Lane- 5/5 Wasted Time - 3/5 Victim of Love - 4/5 Pretty Maids - 3/5 Try and Love - 4/5 The Last Resort - 3/5 Overall a great album!

Tired but good

it was nice :)

One of stapke classic rock albums, love it 8/10

Very enjoyable 70s soft rock, couldn't of asked for much more from it, save for bland, predictable lyrics. A great record.

I really enjoyed this. I think the lyrics in Hotel California are so great. It's definitely not the genre I would listen to on a daily basis but I think it's great.

Glad I finally listened to this classic. It's sweetly mellow and melodramatic. Some of the lyricism feels a little dated but it has a soft, comforting feeling. The title track is still among the greatest I've ever listened to, and I also really loved New Kid in Town and Try and Love Again.

It’s one of the best selling albums ever for a reason. All of the songs were at the very least a good listen while songs like wasted time and obviously the title track are amazing. Life in the fast lane is lame and overrated though

Pretty okay dad rock, nothing you havent heard before. I like that there are multiple different singers, keeps the record fresh.

The title cut is the Pachelbel's Canon of classic rock. Some people love it, some people hate it, but it's got this freaking endless cyclical progression that never ends, ultimately causing the listener madness as it repeats infinitely in the background of the brain. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave, indeed. There is some really good songwriting and performance on this record, there's a good reason it is somewhat legendary, above and beyond the aforementioned madness thing.

a couple megahits, a couple deep cuts. The rest is pretty chill, like borderline folk or country. But the hits are a bullseye.

Dope!!

Good listen, the hits are hits and the rest is pretty solid.

what can you say it’s hotel fucking california

Of course, the title track is one for the ages, as overplayed as it is. It's just epic how the two guitars soloing at the end of this stellar song finally join for a common climax. But when it comes to the album itself, it's the very definition of a *flawed* concept album. A significant chunk of those tracks sound a little ridiculous today, and the obvious ambition of this thing doesn't mesh well with its clear failures in execution, both musically and lyrically. Yet oddly enough, this is also a concept album about *failure* itself (mostly the failure of the American Dream). And in that sense, the overall cheesiness does bring an extra layer that makes the album a very interesting one to listen to, at least on an "intellectual" level. Whether all of that was intended or not is another story, but maybe it doesn't matter so much. It's only a little disappointing that the music is almost never as dark and intense as in closer "The Last Resort". The concept behind this record justified going to darker territories. One can't help regretting this missed opportunity here. But maybe for once, the legendary opener and its negative counterpart at the very end are enough to justify including this album on a list of 1001 essential albums to listen to. What's in between might be cheesy, but it's part of the unapolegetically despondent equation that *Hotel California* really is. Anyway, it would be a shame dying without at least having given a fair try to the fucking Eagles, man. If only because it's the only way to then state how much you hate them, just like the Dude did. Number of albums left to review: 741 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 127 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 65 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 68

A classic.

i have grown up hating the eagles and thought they were a no good bad band. however after listening to this album i am wondering if i have been BRAINWASHED by my father. i liked this album. significantly.

It's strange how a band can rip so hard at times and then be completely blah at others. Still, probably more highs than lows.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a fan of The Big Lebowski AND I like the Eagles. For me, this album is all about nostalgia, it got played a lot when I was a kid. The production, musicianship and guitar work are top notch. The opening of Hotel California gets me every time! The second half (in terms of side B on the LP), starts to feel a bit dreary. I like the anecdote about "The Last Resort" taking days to record, because they kept messing up because Black Sabbath were making too much noise in the studio next door!

Really good - hotel California is such a classic

I need to finish it but I think I know this from being a child

I liked the first half more than the second, but it was still good. No bad songs. Album cover: 3/5 it’s alright

Its a good listen. Some classic bangers included. It falls short of being a perfect classic album though as a whole.

Easy listening, actually a bit more mellow music than I expected, not so much rock as was my previous expectation for an eagles album

Awesome classic

Good album. Not all the songs are masterpieces, but overall a good collection of good songs.

Good stuff, didn't even want to check out

Here’s another iconic album that’s kind of hard to judge on it’s own merits because of the massive legacy that surrounds it. The first side can almost live up to the hype, in my opinion. A really strong start but it does lose momentum on the flip side. I like the anti-corporate American vibes of the closing track but the rest had little impact on me. Haters gunna hate and I think hating Eagles is what the cool kids are about, but screw them, I’m going to dig through my top draw for my capo and lock in on to 7th fret like I don’t give a fuck.

Haven't heard this whole album start to finish in like, 10 years. Definitely a great collection of tunes.

| new kid in town • no lo dije, pero los primeros acordes de "new kid in town". clásicos affffffff. I'M IN "LOVE". | wasted time • el título de "victim of love" engañoso affff; me esperaba una balada a lo "new kid in town". | victim of loveloce • "pretty maids all in a row" = elegancia.

I really liked rock songs on it but not a fan of their ballads. But I was surprised, since I don't like hotel California (the song) I wasn't expecting to actually like the album. I will listen to it again.

liked, quite American, hotel California obviously best but rest was nice too

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Hotel California, New kid in town, Victim of love, Try and love again, The last resort

Not particular music I like but this is a great classic album

The first album here which was actually great. Ive listen to the song hotel cali many times but I never thought to listen to the whole album. what a delight! 8/10

Some really solid California classic rock here

Great album.

Pretty good album with the classic Hotel California

Great rock album with some heavy hitters including the title track and life in the fast lane. This is accompanied by more soft rock / yacht rock commonly found in 70s rock. Few songs added to Playlist

Great Album

Off to a great start with the classic Hotel California. You can never go wrong with this song! I put the album on while working and loved it. I feel you could put this album on at almost any time and could appreciate it. Wasted Time is so soothing, it's otherworldly. It sounds like it was made for a movie like the Never Ending Story. Good album, not too long.

The classicest of Eagles rock

Hard to really know what to give this album. A really well produced album with some great tracks, but the remaining tracks are a snooze fest of middle of the road soft rock. 3.5 out of 5 for me, but will bump to 4 cause of Hotel California

Liked it more than I ever thought I would. Harmonies, hooks, riffs, the lot.

They definitely had it. Writing, execution, recording. I am a bit tired of the Eagles - I wonder how I would rate it had I never heard it/them previously.

Buen grupo, buen disco.

Hotel California (song) is amazing. Rest is pretty good. Wasted Time is a solid anthem

Very good album with a sound that feels ahead of its time. Multiple standout songs including the obvious "Hotel California" for which the album is named. My first time listening to any Eagles album as a whole and I very much enjoyed it. Favorite Songs: "Hotel California", "New Kid in Town", "Wasted Time"

Title track solo is legendary, gotta learn that so I can steal some licks from it. Life in the fast lane is great and victim of love is pretty good but the whole rest of the album kinda failed to strike a chord with me. Not saying it's bad but it's just not my speed. Drumming gets stale when you listen to the whole album all the way through but I get why. Would be 3 stars but that solo kicks it up to 4 all by itself imo.

on first listen 4/5, it’s a beatiful album but not really the type of music i usually listen to.

Solid mix of hits and grooving others.

Never heard wasted time before, soppy as hell but a great song!

Fantastic chilled and rocked simultaneous

A great album, but I feel they really front-loaded it.

Ah, my second Eagles' album and this must also be my California week with 3 out the five artists from LA. This is the Eagles' fifth album with Joe Walsh replacing founding member Bernie Leadon on guitar. It found them moving away from country rock into more rock. Although, there still are some slower-paced songs. In fact, each side closer, "Wasted Time" and "The Last Resort " has a pretty lush string arrangement. According to Don Henley, the album is about the loss of innocence, perils of fame, illusions vs. reality. I agree with that especially the title song. However, there are a number of songs about relationships too. Henley also said this was the peak of the band and they starting growing apart after this. I guess hard to top one of the best selling albums of all time. Besides the title track, other standouts include: "New Kid in Town" - just a nice sounding song, more in that country rock genre to me, "Life in the Fast Lane" - OK, this is more rock, written by Glenn Frey after a discussion with his drug dealer, I can't help thinking about that band covering this song in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "Victum of Love" - always liked the guitar. This album was easy to listen to with its iconic songs. Honestly, I'd give the slight edge, for me, to their first album which I just had last week.

The titel song obviously a classic, and several other of the Eagles top songs are included here. However also a few fillers, that do not stand the test of time. So therefore not a 5 star album in my World, but close

Iconic album.

Is it lyrically complex, meaningful, or anything other than stadium rock? No. Is it still enjoyable? Yes.

Love the first song.

A pleasant journey. I would say it's a perfect road trip album. I was exposed to it many times before - when I was a kid my parents used to play it from a MC while driving. Hotel California brings the good vibes. It's a bit melancholic, laid-back and 70s. However, I don't find it particularly ear-wormy apart from the title song. Highlight: Victim of Love

A classic. Trails off a little there at the end, but still a good album

You know it's a hugely popular album when you're intimately familiar with 6 of the 9 songs, even though you've never actually listened to the album. I've never been a huge fan, but I have to give them credit for what I'm sure everyone would consider their pinnacle. I think Joe Walsh was good for the band. Without him I suspect they would have been firmly in the soft rock/easy listening category, but he gave them a bit more of an edge. Enough at least that I enjoy listening. 4 stars.

Overplayed but still great

I'm not the biggest Eagles fan in the world, but this was pretty good, and I'm glad I checked it out. I think the title track was a strange choice as an opener. Anyway, the band's chiller vibe is kind of hit or miss for me, but the album was still a good listen, even if I don't expect to return to its deep cuts anytime soon.

The Eagles made some classic songs and they will always hold a place in my nostalgia folder but they never took any chances. All their songs are just "safe" so they safely appeal to everyone but there is nothing cutting edge about them or awesome. They are just chill and mellow.

A great classic album. The A-side is a collection of great songs, but it honestly drags a little bit on the B-side. I expected to have more to say about such a classic album but I don't. But it is still a great album.

I have a playlist of my favorite songs of all time. Only one song allowed per band. Hotel California is the first song I put on that list, and I think it still belongs on there. The rest of the album is in the 3-4 range for me. Maybe a few too many ballads, I like them but as a spice rather than the full meal.

A masterpiece

I liked this more than I thought I would but it's not the kind of thing I can see myself putting on often... ... although if I ever do get a nice little home to call my own, with a little area I can sit and watch the rain bucket down and batter the windows, I could see this spinning on vinyl as I had a cup of tea and settled into my favourite comfy chair.

The title track is one of my favorites, and frequently wins radio station polls. The rockers are always fun, and make this one of my top picks. The Eagles reliably deliver the full, polished sound of a real rock band, even in the songs where they're whining instead of rocking. I appreciated the slow songs more this time, since I listened more consciously than I usually do. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the album. I was a little exasperated by Don Henley's perpetually bleeding heart, but that might just be a lack of patience with his slow ones. I loved every song on the Boys of Summer alblum, and I don't have as much trouble with Rufus Wainwright's bleeding heart.

Great. Worth coming back to across the board.

The first side of this record and Victim of Love are all pretty good. The Last Resort is a little embarrassing, maybe more so now than it was then. But I LOVE the story that The Eagles had to stop recording this sometimes because Black Sabbath was being too loud in an adjacent studio. Anyway, I don't hate the Eagles and the songs are pretty catchy. I like the song Hotel California mostly for the eerie weirdness of the story. It's close enough to a horror movie to enjoy. And I like Life in the Fast Lane because I dig a good Hollywood live-fast-die-young story. I also like the production stories on this one. Is the music worth 4 stars? I don't know. But the whole package of this one gets it there, I think.

Album good

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this album and although I have heard of the Eagles, I haven't really listened to much and thought they were just American Country. Hotel California is a great concept album by their own admission. It embodies all of the themes and connotations of what California encompasses, the allure of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood but it also speaks to the illusion of it all. Best: Hotel California; The New Kid in Town Worst: The Last Resort

very good record. very nice and chill with some iconic songs

The Eagles are a band that while they don't appeal to my personal preference for music I like to come back to over and over, I can acknowledge and appreciate their talent in their songs. This was a pretty solid album, until the last song. I'm all for a protest song but found The Last Resort so bland and blatant that i feel it drags down the rest of the album.

I love Henley's voice and the lead guitar backing on almost every song. Hotel and Fast Lane are GD masterpieces, but a couple tracks come in on the boring side as well.

Heel toegankelijke "middle of the road" muziek. ****

Great '70 band. Hotel California was its hit.

Agradable. Songs: Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, Victim of Love

This is actually a great album. Lots of good songs especially "Hotel California" which everyone knows. 8/10.

i've only ever listened to the song "hotel california" so we'll see.... this album feels so damn long bc the first few songs r sooo long enjoyed!!! more than expected

Classic. Really enjoyed the exploration of the theme of the destruction of paradise, loss of innocence etc. Much more urban than their earlier cowboy themes. Gets better with every listen. Cover art: 4.5/5 iconic cover picking up on musical themes.

Many bangers

I am a casual fan of EAGLES having most of their music due to liking most of their hits. I have HOTEL CALIFORNIA and I like the album well enough. After re-listening to HOTEL CALIFORNIA, I enjoy the album especially the hits: "Hotel California", "Life in the Fast Lane" and "New Kid in Town", however, since I am an album oriented person, the remaining 2/3 (6 songs) are decent, but are not consistent enough to hold up the three major hits. The six non-hits seem almost like filler, but actually a little better than that. I think that is true for all or most of their albums and that the reason why I am only a casual fan and not a die-hard one. In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, there is the debut album, EAGLES (1972) in the book #260. Rate Artist: EAGLES (4) Rate Album (Year): HOTEL CALIFORNIA (1976 Original) (4) Rate Album (Year): HOTEL CALIFORNIA (2017 2CD 40th Anniversary) (4.5)

The majority of this album is on their greatest hits, Volume 2. I remember when I was in high school listening to Greatest Hits Volume 1 & 2 over and over again. I grew out of the Eagles. Part of it is that the only song the play on the radio is "Hotel California," which grew tedious. And then they were having a farewell tour, but then changed their minds. They could have gone out in a big finale, but decided "nah, let's not do that." That bugs me still. The few songs not on their greatest hits are also good, although I do not like how "Pretty Maids All In A Row" fades out. It's like Walsh couldn't figure out how to end the song. And Joe Walsh was the secret weapon for that band in this album, man. He was just... awesome. I don't think I would revisit the album, but it was nice to come back to once again.

I feel like I should give this a 5 - after all, it's a classic and includes worthy hits such as Hotel California (love the guitar solos at the end) and Life in the Fast Lane. But there's just something about the album that I find underwhelming. Maybe it's a little too perfect, a little too polished. It just doesn't make me say "I want to listen to this again." I even listened to it multiple times to see if I was missing something, but no. So, I'm giving it a 4. Great songs, including some stone cold classics (I also like Victim of Love), but it's just missing that je ne sais quoi.

Standout - Hotel California Very good album, wasn't listening that intently so might have to come back to it

Solid album!
