Reviews (page 13 of 13)
I recognize that this is a huge character flaw but blues just doesn't do it for me.
Respect Muddy Waters for being a big influence on blues and rock, but got bored after a while. More suited to background music for me.
From the off, any album that opens with Mannish Boy has my attention. A three chord riff repeated for five minutes, but never boring. Bus Driver is good, but possibly needed to be a different tempo or feel, because it's starting to feel samey. This continues - by the improvement on prior tracks of The Blues Had A Baby And They Named It Rock and Roll I'd started to struggle to realise when one track ended and the next began. I want to like this album. He was 71 when he made it, and Mannish Boy alone shows he could still create pure fire sometimes. But the complete lack of tonal variety really holds this back - when you look at the energy on display on BB King Live and compare it to the *ahem* muddy mid tempo blues of this, there really isn't enough here to make me want to came back.
I just don’t like the blues.
I think I would have to be in the mood for this one. Right now it just kind of felt boring and all the songs sounded too similar and repetetive.
I'm definitely not a fan of the blues. I found most of the songs repetitive and boring. I can't Be Satisfied was the only song I enjoyed.
Lost interest after the first song ended, just not my thing
Boring
It's like listening to an important historical album. It was fine.
One trick pony
I hate blues
Blues rock and role old school.
Too difficult to listen to! Very heavy blues with wailing harmonicas. Sounds very bloated and over the top for me.
Better than lenny cohen
quite enjoyed this - particularly the more upbeat ones: I can't be satisfied and 'the blues had a baby named rock'n'roll. less so the very slow ones with more harmonica e.g. deep down in Florida. crosseyed cat is fun
bro like wtf stop with the honky
Ok album. Blues isn’t my favorite as it seems many of the songs blend together. Mannish boy stood out but everything else was ok. 4.8/10
Interesting to listen to some music from the Genre Gijs loves: Chicago blues. I only learned from him recently that it's very distinct from other forms of blues. A lot about making love and sleazy undertones. I can appreciate the historical context of this kind of music but with a lot of repetition, my ears do get tired rather quickly listening to this. In my feeling more the type of thing you intersperse a few songs at a party rather than listening to the whole album.
The whole album felt like one long blues song to me. The patterns were repetitive, and everyone was playing on top of one another.
Nope….
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Mannish Boy, Crosseyed Cat Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: I'm sorry I just do not like the recorded blues. Live? Fuck me up. But something just doesn't translate when it's recorded. I apologize.
hey it's that riff george thoroughgood jacked. oh wait they all kinda sound like that
It's blues, it's dirty, and it's done well. I lost interest after a couple tracks. Straight old blues tracks are great now and then but an album of them feels a bit repetitive. It's not bad, it's just not all that interesting.
Was ok
Mehdy Waters
Felt like I listened to the same song on loop for 45mins. 5/10
Pretty cool in places but ot my thing
His voice is fine but, it honestly just sounds like the same song to me played over and over with different lyrics.
Its ok but not for me. Cannot get into the zone for it...and it really does need you to be in it
Blues like this just isn't my thing, it all sounds samey and merges into one
Meh
I love blues but also find it super repetitive. I don't want to do Muddy Waters dirty like this... I really like 'I Want to Be Loved'
No es malo pero enfadó
Individually, these tunes might be a bit of bluesy fun but as an album it gets a bit too repetitive. Bonus star for some lovely guitar sounds
Sounds phat. Bonus star for the guy that screams yeah. YEAH!
Ikkje så glad i blues asssszzzz
Super generic blues. I think his dog ran away to one point. Not my bag
Das ist eher Kultur und weniger Kunst. Musik für live Entertainment, nicht für privaten Genuss. Men singing about speaking to women for men. Nix für mich.
not my vibe
All songs sound exactly the same… hated this tbh
To be honest, I didn’t listen to the entire I listen to like two songs, but this is not my type of music. I don’t like Chicago blues I mean, like I like the blues Brothers, but I don’t like this.
Me entusiasmó el primer tema, dsp se me volvió muy repetitivo pq es puro blues rocanroll, q viste q está bueno pero terminan siendo todos los temas parecidos
First listen
ну такое, 1/5
Hugely influential artist, but this is of no interest to me. I mean, there's a generation before that reminisce about eating tripe, but I'm not touching the stuff, sorry.
Nicht meins
I heard this man is charismatic so I'm excited Mannish Boy: Ooh he's smoooth. I like the whooping in the background. Ok but it doesn't pick up at all like it's the same rhythm and notes the whole time. I got bored after 3 minutes. Sorry Muddy :( 2/5 Bus Driver: Its very bluesy- def what he's going for, it's good. I have a feeling it will not pick up however. Soo... I kind of fell asleep listening to this. I don't know if that makes this a good or bad album. I'm giving it a one however because it's not my thing
Great, another blues album... Let's see if this one catches me a little more than Hendrix. Listening to the first track I'm already getting the feeling that this might be another skip unfortunately. I'm really not the biggest blues fan.
Hoochie Coochie
Singing style is not for me cant get pass through it, was bored
favs: mannish boy bus driver rating 1/5
If you love harmonica, you’re gonna love this. Every friggin song was harmonica. No thanks.
ASS
No, the blues doesn’t do it for me. I mostly find it bland and sluggish.
I like my water clean not muddy like the swamps sounds like im in the western American bar having a pint of butter beer or honey mead and chanting old rhymes like ma used to with the lads
Mannish Boy gets a 1.5, could have turned it off after that
I'm not one to judge an album by its cover, but when I saw this one I knew I was in for a doozy. Yeah so I didn't like anything about this piece. No part of this album made me nod my head in the slightest. There's so much filler too. This album could of been 30 minutes long if there wasn't as much razzle dazzle. I adore the guitar as an instrument, but not like this.
Soft again.....
I like some blues, and blues based rock songs - and I know Muddy Waters is considered one of the godfathers of the whole genre. So I was excited to be assigned this album and was looking forward to listening to it. Started off with Mannish Boy, which I was already familiar with and liked. About halfway through the album I kept thinking "Is this almost over?" Nope. It was just too endlessly repetitive to me. I lost track of when one song started and one ended. I often really like harmonica in songs - but here it was too much - just constant high pitched whining. Maybe they should consider using it more sparingly for better effect. The guitar was a little like that too. The production style just seems like a wall of noise with no breaks or room to breathe. The piano and the drums were the best part of the songs here. Liked songs on Spotify: 1/9 Rating: 1/5
An album I WANT to like a hell of a lot more than I actually do. Guess I'm really not a blues fan...
Straight up and down Blues, with the world's most harmonica tone
nothing for me
Old school blues will good sounds, but most of the tracks were too repetitive to me.
Pre thoughts: don’t like blues, it’s the same couple of riffs over and over in every song. Hank’s song in the Office ruins blues like Dewey Cox ruins biopics. Half way thoughts: I really don’t like blues. No structure like jazz or jam bands. Just not for me. Final thoughts: Before this exercise, I definitely wouldn’t have guessed that I like Romanian Death Metal more than blues. Hated it more than I expected to.
I did not like this album. Perhaps it is the recording technology of the time, but the timing for all the instruments seems off. It felt like a bunch of different instruments were competing for attention with the vocalist, and it just sounded like a dumpster fire. I didn't hate anything individually, it just didn't work for what it is. Maybe a remastered version with modern tech would be more enjoyable.
I know this may be an unpopular opinion but hear me out, I really didn't enjoy Hard Again which is a shame since i enjoy bluesy stuff from time to time but this is just not something i enjoy. Everything about this album feels so self-indulgent from the annoying slide guitar that is used so frequently to the point where it gets even more annoying to the messy composition. But this album not only managed to be annoying but incredibly boring too. All the songs here sounded the same and the album felt like it was going on for far longer than it actually was. I'm sure that you all see something in this album that i don't but as for me, This album is hot garbage. Best song: I Want To Be Loved #2 Worst Song: Little Girl
this was mid
It’s not a go-to genre for me but I don’t mind a bit of Blues music and I know of Muddy Waters reputation so I was quite looking forward to this one. I bloody hated it. More than happy to be in the minority on this one. I get he’s a legend and all but, for me, it dragged on for what felt like a fecking eternity. At one point I figured I must be near the end so checked how long was left and I was only halfway. Gutted.
Probably one track I liked on this album. Which was Little Girl.
TMI
9 tunes die net zo goed 1 tune konden zijn. Iconisch maar niets voor Jonaas.
fell asleep
Ultra sleeper
I should not rate Muddy Waters due to not being a genre that I care for.
Muddy waters indeed.
Not my favorite type of blues. Too much
Who would listen to this voluntarily?
too repetitive musically for my taste it’s just the blues scheme with minor deviations ALL OVER & IN EVERY SONG i’m bored guys
not my style (j'ai pas fini l'album :))
First album I really couldn’t vibe with. Felt repetitive and boring to me.
I’m sorry, but this just all sounds the same to me.
Not a fan.
No me gustó
Not really my cuppa.
Aburrido, cuesta mucho que me guste una canción de blues y más un disco completo, super monótono
idk man it all just sounds the same
No
The songs at the beginning were shite. The songs at the middle were also shite. The songs at the end, I didn't listen.
Uggggh. I hate this stupid list so much. The first song on this is the most repetitive, trite, pathetic, worthless excuse for music I've ever heard. How is anyone hearing this and thinking it's good? It's the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Over 5 minutes of the same 3 seconds repeated over and over. No. Just no. Not for me.
No thanks
More like "boos" (just not a fan of the genre"
Idk. I really can’t stand the harmonica on this album. It’s like a car alarm that just goes on and on through every track but one. You can bend that note, we get it. Crazy to drop a 1 on this. Oh well.
This is the blueiest blues that ever blued. Also the most harmonica I've ever heard. Like waaaaayyy too much. Really not for me at all
Got my mojo snoring
1/10 This was a real struggle to get through, one song was just about listenable but an album was torture. Hated it. His voice and tone were excellent Musically it was repetitive and boring, felt like a jam session with a tight band who could just do this all day (and it felt like they did) Didn’t feel any of the craft of creating an album, just a series of repetitive blues jams with a “this will do” attitude This is obviously not my genre so I could be way off here The harmonica was especially grating, just endless tuneless wailing Sounded like a 1-hour version of the 80s theme tune to Roseanne. To be clear: that is a bad thing. Least favourite album so far in this project
Not my thing.
Nicht mein Geschmack
What could have been a great album ruined by the excesses of Johnny Winter's production.
Surprisingly innovative and inspired instrumental combined with practically no song structure leaves me thinking this is an album one would only listen to to get ideas for their own album, with songs ranging from impressive but dull to outright tedious.
The man was so influential to the genre that he was considered the "father of modern Chicago blues", only for me to come along 45 years later and call his album "bland" and "samey." Smh my damn head. Also, maybe don't be an old man singing about "little girls" in a sexual manner?
Just boring. So boring for me. 1/5
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
Perfectly fine album but I think the blues is just not for me!!!!
I am not a fan of blues apparently, at least not of Muddy Waters
i went into this album thinking i didn’t like the blues and i came out of this album knowing i didn’t like the blues
Not good.
Torture
I hate Blues.
To be completed
“Raining down Delta beatitude.”
Formulaic blues.
En son ne zaman bu kadar emin bi sekilde puan verdim hatirlamiyorum
Not my type Lite variasjon I want to be loved va ok Blues akti me rock gitar
not for listening alone at home
Hard Again
Yawn. Now I realize why I don’t own any straight blues albums. “Is this not over yet” definitely went through my head a few times. Too repetitive, all the songs sound the same, same guitar, harmonica, drums, harmony. Don’t get me wrong this is low down and dirty as it should be. His voice is guttural and perfect for blues. The harmonica howls. The rhythm section keeps it crawling along like a mud snake. “I can’t be satisfied” was a bit different and that was welcome. “Cross eyed cat” had a baseline variation which made it stand out. Maybe if it was hot out, and I was feeling a buzz and inside a sweaty biyou speakeasy I could appreciate it more. But I’m not and I can’t.
Loved Mannish but did it get stolen and remade into Bad to the Bone????😳Great blues if you like blues
Mannish boy is class. The rest could have been one lo g song. Not for me at all.
