LOL prodigy. Not sure I had ever listened to this album in its entirety, so there's that.

Super nostalgic, my brother played this album nonstop back in the day. Listening to it as an adult, I can't say I purely love it - some tracks bored me. But it has a lot of bangers for sure.

Each track has a groove. Turns out I like electro-punk.

Classic, very uptempo

Not a lot of variation, some of the tracks are easy to confuse with others. But damn it’s a good formula. More punk influence than I expected.

fat beats, every track went hard. strong strong 4

7/10 pretty good stuff not really a genre I’m a fun of, but this was still very well made

Liked Jilted Generation a bit better but this is still a great album and will probably make it's way into my regular rotation

pretty good

This isn't really my genre, but I always kinda liked Prodigy. They're punk rock - like if the Clash did electronica. They keep the tracks relatively short and there is enough variety that I stay interested the whole time. That's saying something.

Techno techno techno, it's fine, and I love that crab on the album art. Very fun to me that it wouldn't be until about 15 years later the trajectories of stuff like this and mainstream pop would overlap, like i have to remind myself this probably would've had a more niche audience than I'd expect nowadays. I wasn't musically checked in at all during the 90s (being younger than 10 years old the whole way through) (sorry to older millennials for mentioning that), but I'd have probably been drawn more to this kinda thing than Smashing Pumpkins

75/100

Great electronic dance music. Danceable/raveable. Heavy, energetic, chaotic. Flows well between songs. The songs are built well.

Great album. Changed the landscape of rock and dance music

Good album, lots of bangers, great sampling probably 3.5

Not exactly my type of music, but this was good, the singles jump out at you right away but even the filler songs have a lot going on with them really liked Serial Thrilla

Holds up. Pretty good rave music.

Brilliant energetic music with the 3 classic singles on it. Not whole album that level, but 4 stars easily.

Relative to other EDM albums that are likely on this list, I would have to say this is likely going to be the one that’s most appealing to me. Objectively, this album is fast-paced rage-dance. It’s catchy, and it’s action packed. It’s unique and fun and it hits hard!

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Smack my bitch up, Breathe, Mindfileds, Firestarter

Most of it I'd great, some undoubted filler

Good times

Some belters

Techno. Dos megahits. Un 4.

Turned 16 in late 1996, bought this album when I first got my license later in 97. Blared this album all summer down the shore in my mom's Mercury Villager. Great times. Ni hypocrisy Herr, as I just knocked the Buzzcocks down to 2 starts cause there was no depth. Lots more to chew on here in Fat of the Land, but these drum beats are interchangeable, and as with all electronic music, tracks are too long. Not ever concept needs repeating 5 times over 6min. I wish I had a 4 5 option

Pillar album to electronics dance music

Not my thing. But a brilliant use of technology and very interesting to listen to.

Always a banger. Instant transport to 1996 8.5/10

4.5 Enjoyed this

I want to give this 5 stars and say it’s the best dance album of all time… But A lot of the songs do sound very similar so at an hour long, it got pretty boring at times. Still some absolute bangers on here but you shouldn’t have to skip the second half of tunes on a 5 star album.

good album top 3 songs breathe diesel power fuel my fire

Just incredible

Listens: 2 Enjoyed: yes Theres a beauty here - a mixture of two genres which should never be integrated but is done in such a way to make it feel so right

Breath with me! Not a daily listener, but required when the mood hits.

For EDM/Techno, The Prodigy is pretty fucking good.

Things are just different in the UK. So many singles from Prodigy hitting #1 on the UK singles charts – it’s hard to imagine driving around in my car in the 90s, turning the FM dial and finding “Firestarter” on high rotation! They deliver quite a one-two punch with the opening tracks and the relentless energy stays high throughout the album. “Breathe” is my favourite with Keith Flint sounding very Johnny Rotten-like, as he should, since they define their music as electronic punk. Maybe Flint is the addition that made this so much more palatable (to me) than their prior LP, or maybe I just prefer breakbeats to rave. It’s well-produced with great drums and open spaces to drop the bass. Dance all night long!

Firestarter. 4/5

Slapping bangers!

first listen something absolutely classic about this

Bought because it was a bit different for me. Still sounds good.

Still a good album. So very 90's

Pure, chaotic and LOUD dance music. Not for everybody, but definitely an album that warrants a listen.

Timeless, deserves proper speakers. MFTJG is better though.

very cool album with some bangers and some other just solid edm vibers

Classic solid

Better than I remembered.

"The Fat of the Land" is the third studio album from the English electronic music group The Prodigy (now just called Prodigy btw). It was their first album to feature vocalist Keith Flint who was lead vocalist on four songs and co-wrote three. Their music genres listed are big beat, electronica, electropunk, electronic rock technology and dance rock. I wrote that just to write electropunk but all those fit. The album was surrounded by controversy by the National Organization of Women and the song "Smack My Bitch Up" and its misogyny. No matter what the band really meant, there's no getting around that with the title. The album received critical acclaim and reached #1 in both the UK and US. The album gets right into it with "Smack My Bitch Up." A repetitive beat. Driving synths. Weird noises. A distorted sample of Kool Keith's vocals of the Ultramagnetic MCs repeating "Change My Pitch up/Smack My Bitch Up" from the song "Give the Drummer Some." Supposedly about about doing anything intensely. An eerie synth opening on their second single "Breathe." A jittery beat. A sample of a whirling sword sound. That's original. Flint on vocals. A big song from what I remember. "Mindfields" sounds more techno. The beat is pounding like a hammer with a more Middle Eastern melody on the synths. Distorted lyrics. Life is like walking through a minefield. Really good song. Their first single "Firestarter" has a faster beat, a helicopter-type sound and annoying weird noises. I remember being kind of annoyed when this came out; it sounded OK today. They cover L7 on the last song "Fueling Fire." Here's the electropunk. This sounded like if early Gary Numan met Ministry and it works. I expected this album to sounded dated but I actually liked it. It's pretty solid throughout and they vary the music up throughout. I see the controversy in the first song's title and lyric but beyond that there wasn't too much offensive unless you rather dislike the music then it is. An album worth going back to if your a fan of the six genres previously mentioned.

Love the energy on this one, but, wtf with the first song

A total design classic. Heard it everywhere non stop through about 2002, and very lucky to stumble across them at their peak in a field in Portugal around June '96. Bangin'

Genetically, pedophiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me. Now that is scientific fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact.

There seem to be a lot of albums like this on this long list. At least "The Fat of the Land" tickled my interest more powerfully than the other Prodigy selection, "Music for the Jilted Generation".

Great stuff, got some of their bangeriest bangers on there.

A touch flabby.

just a little too jack sprat for my liking

Love this. I think I got really into The Prodigy when they played at Big Day Out in 2009, and I would use the lineups for music festivals to find new music and download a stack of torrents. I also went down the rabbit hole of watching "epic" live crowd videos on Youtube of Prodigy concerts which got 14 year old me pretty fired up.

Bangin album. Fire starter vid one of the most iconic from my childhood Fave track - smack my bitch up

smakc my bithc up

Incredible album, incredible songs!

"Oim a foiah stahtah, tweested foiah stahtah" Elska þetta. Svo mikið kaos.

"Smack my Bitch Up" is still a definite rager to this day. Despite the varied crossover, the album dulls out a bit near the end. It sounds like a product of its era.

I knew the singles of course, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this as a whole. This kind of bombastic 90s electronic music is not something I know very well, but this makes me think I should dig deeper.

It haunts me to this day. Any of these tracks make me think of 2000s racing games, late night MTV, and intrigue of druggy sub cultures.

I loved this album. Not only were the songs I know (and loved) great but the most of the other songs felt good to me too.

One of the better albums of the genre, though at some point, you could no longer distinguish which track is which. Maybe that’s the point.

An odd album, a compelling mix of guitar, samples and synth that is maximized to full effect across all ten tunes here. The prodigy sound hungry and driven here, leading to shocking and incredibly effective cuts like single "breathe" which still sounds as raw and innovative as anything else to come out of the late 90s rave trend. Hell, even the 9 minute guitar/electronica epic works ("Narayan"). However, when the Prodigy aren't motivated, often the quality decreases and the songs sound tired and worn out. Thankfully though, the album keeps a tight grip on its runtime and its goals never slide out of focus fully, leading to a thrilling, riotous hour that is definitely worth your time. A great record.

Kinda a mood

It was neat listening to Firestarter at a Trader Joe's

it's a vibe

I remember this being a slight disappointment at the time as it came out after the the singles. They were always great live in a way that made the albums a bit secondary anyway. Album sounds better than I remember but it might just be the nostalgia talking. You reach an age where you forget that people have died and Keith Flint is always one of those people that I have to remind myself isn't here anymore.

Stupid and contagious.

Smack My Bitch Up gemakshalve maar even geskipt want die is echt over de houdbaarheidsdatum heen.

I am quite familiar and fond of "Firestarter", "Smack My Bitch Up", "Breathe", and "Mindfields". While I[m not a huge fan of electronic music, this album gave me a lot of nostalgia and new songs that I had never heard before. I normally love rap, but the one rap song, "Diesel Power", felt a bit out of place with the music. I do enjoy a good genre crossover here and there but this one fell short. Overall a fantastic album, just short of 5 stars!

Enjoyed more than I thought I would

Very cool and good

I mean, it's good GSD background music but, if you take the effort to actively listen, it gets pretty old pretty fast. Very repetitive. But what they're doing here is cutting edge and really novel for the time and I really did enjoy it for the most part. I'm feeling generous so this one gets 4 stars from me.

Wow, two Prodigy albums in a week! I wish I had revealed this before I went out for my jog. I'm not as fond of this one as "Jilted", but its still a very significant album. I think as a whole, "Jilted" is a better album, but the singles on this one are better. "Smack My Bitch Up" is a bit weird to listen to now and hasn't aged well, no matter what way the guys try to explain it. It would have been perfect as a purely instrumental song. I did always prefer the Enya Orinogo Flow mash up anyway.

So close to a 5 it's a bit tot repetitive, and a bit too 90s. 4.6 maybe.

Some serious bangers, but definitely some fat on the album, keeping it from being a 5/5.

If I had to choose, this would be the album I’d choose to have my jaw swinging to.

Good techno

I prefer their first but plenty of bangers onhere

One thing I like about taking on this 1001 project is having the opportunity see how artists evolve from album to album. Fat of the Land is an excellent example of this. I listened to Music For The Jilted Generation a few months ago and liked it well enough, but this album is far superior. It shows tremendous growth in the band. The album is tighter, more polished and more focused. The band has lost some of their grit in the 3 years between albums, but this is a case study in how you can trim away the rawness of your sound without losing your edge or your power. This is an album with a clear musical point of view, memorable songs, strong beats. And it has aged really well. I enjoyed this. Fave Songs: Firestarter, Breathe, Climbatize, Funky Shit, Narayan, Mindfields

100th album!!! Definitely liked this one, super fun and makes for great background music especially, since every song kind of blended into one (which might be considered a negative thing) - therefore i'm not sure if there's much here that I would revisit individually except the first couple of songs, but its a very well made album nonetheless and deserves a spot on this list.

Amazing how many iconic sounds come from this album, awesome stuff!

Dated but dope. Can hear some hints of industrial in here. Most songs sound like they could be in a Tony Hawk game.

Still sounds bloody good. I don't love it as much as their previous two albums, but it is still excellent.

Yeah, these guys were good. The beats knock you on your butt immediately. Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, and Firestarter are massively popular tracks, and with good reason. Like a lot of this album they are infectious. Funky Sh&t and Mindfields were other tracks that I couldn't shake, in a good way. What struck me about the album is it's electronic but doesn't always feel that way - it feels bass or drum heavy at times, it feels like there are guitars and instruments (which there are, but even when there aren't). It has its moments where a song runs on too long or has too extreme/annoying of loops or beats (looking at you Serial Thrilla). But it is a fun listen that I'm willing to repeat or makes we want to explore more Prodigy.

Not really my type of music, but this is really good. I like the more psychedelic stuff more (think Climbatize was my favourite), a bit less aggressive big beats than most of it, but the rest of it still works really well despite being 25 years old. Consistently good, three instantly recognisable tracks, 4/5 for me.

Not my style of music. I didn't listen them in the '90s But today it's more than just ok.

Great album, can get slightly repetitive after a while

Holds up well.

SMBU, Breathe and Firestarter are classics but the rest of the album is pretty great too.

-S Tier- Smack My Bitch Up Breathe Diesel Power Mindfields Firestarter -A Tier- Funky Shit Narayan -B Tier- Climbatize -C Tier- Serial Thriller Fuel My Fire AVG SCORE: 4 / 5 - - - Another hugely influential album for me. This was the soundtrack of my “Hack the planet” phase in late middle school and early high school. WaReZ, Back Orifice, Sub7, the Rainbow Books, Jolly Roger, my first lineman’s handset…This album brings the memories flooding back. I love it.

Really enjoyed this. Went straight to their next album and listened to it too. It can be a bit repetitive (what self respecting EDM isn't?), but jacked up on my ADHD meds this hits just right!

I dig it. Not my usual thing but pretty enjoyable. Felt like I was listening to a soundtrack of an early 2000’s action movie

Surprisingly fresh after 25 years. One of the best electronic dance albums of the 90s.

It is punk. It is raver. It goes on a lil too long and can be repetitive, but i do think these are intentional things (for the club, for the rave, for the drugs). It's still pretty much a sound that they have mastered. A lot can be said about copycats and such. But that should have any effect on how this sounds. It sounds real good.

Great for the morning, makes me feel sassy.

very rhythmic, both chaotic and controlled, primal - can't help but move to this - climbatize is epic

Kool Keith all over!

Probably the album that first got me deep into my electronica/techno phase. I think it holds up amazingly well. So many bangers. 4.5/5

Pretty 90s. It was fun.

A couple of dated tracks, but the classics hold this album up.

oh hell yeah. now we're getting into home territory. i've actually never listened to this album before but wow. this sounds disgusting (affectionate). i sure wouldn't download a car while listening to this. i feel like i'm listening to what mission impossible 2 looks like. beautiful. that said i think it kinda drags a bit near the end, but then again i'm listening to the whole thing in one go and i am sober. also i think i recognized a sample from firestarter that appears in an alchemist rats beg bashful remix.

Breathe is a banger and is the opener to one of the greatest 90's compilation albums of all time - Big Shiny Tunes 2. Quite a few hits on this album, and it's a solid Industrial Drum n Bass album. Lots of driving beats, very Bri'ish accents, some good hooks on a lot of the tunes. A bit repetitive at times, but a solid album and good music to work to.

8/10 Best Song - Breathe

4.1 - Compared to other British EDM I've reviewed, this one is different. I had it bumping in the back while I was cooking and I really liked it. Besides the pointlessly misogynistic "Smack My Bitch Up", this is solid background for when it's time to get stuff done. I especially like the way "Narayan" fades seamlessly into "Firestarter" - it's a moment that feels especially rave-like.

Great production. Liked Funky Shit.

Diesel Power is a banger

its good but iv listened to it too many times, so i dont listen to the prodigy any more

Classic! Hard not to love.

A blistering, essential big beat album. There's not much to think about with this one, though I caught onto the Kool Keith cameo this time through. Prodigy are less obvious on the samples but sprinkle their signature throughout the tracks, which have very little fat. Here, it seems, the group figures the tunes can be extended via DJ. That's an approach to a dance record I can get behind.

I can see how people like it but I didn't really enjoy the whole genre

Was a good listen. I've listened before. It a little too repeaty for me, but it's still really good. 3.75/5

The Prodigy rules and this is their best by far. Makes you want to destroy shit.

I'm pretty ignorant on the Prodigy, only knowing some of their hits, but this is cool. I can see why they overlap with metal fans often. Will check out more. B-

Seemed more focused then the other Prodigy album. I knew more of the songs. This must have come out during the techno boom of the late 90s. It seemed really familiar... in a good way.

Not sure Fat of the Land was designed to be listened to with a hangover after a night out at a gig, but then prodigy kind of set me off gig going in 1997 when I saw them touring this album at the Astoria (or possibly Brixton Academy) so fair is fair. Think it's generally aged pretty well. It distracted me from my morning funk pretty well.

The album's second-half is underrated. I still struggle through the first-half despite its greater popularity.

Seminal album. Three big hitters and couple that could of been.

Chouette!

great album

A compilation of some really neat tracks without much of an overarching theme. This albums sparked some nostalgic memories too. The energy is palpable and the rythms are captivating.

Highly entertaining, aggressive big-beat album. Felt rave-ish at times. Fun. Highlight: Breathe

4/5. Pretty epic ngl, thought it would blow more 🤷‍♂️

Cool dont sound nothing like prodigy

Y'a du banger.

Pretty solid EDM, better than the other.

Banging

This is pretty fucking good

Vraiment cool même si on s'approche souvent de la musique de blockbusters de Michael Bay par moments Prefs: Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, Funky Shit, Firestarter, Climbatize, Fuel My Fire Moins pref: Narayan

Not much to say about this one. Driving beats, solid electronica, unimposing vocals, layered repetition, one could put this on and get taken back to the 90s, maybe even pretend they are in the Matrix. This is an album that can be forgotten while it is still playing, but in a good way. For the period of time where dance, techno, electronica made their way out of clubs and into movies, commercials, hype albums, we can look back at that as having been an interesting yet appropriate thing for the time. It may seem a bit silly today, but music and nostalgia go hand in hand. This album is worth the walk, or dance, down memory lane.

Definitely not background music - this grabs you by the ears and forces you to listen. Still sounds like nothing else; it sounded like it came from another planet at the time! Firestarter and breathe are the two big hits, and as close to catchy as the album gets, but it probably works best as a whole piece

Just banging. Very close to a big 5…. But not hitting perfection quite!

RIP Keith. Iconic album from late 90s and brings back memories of a great time, preferred the prodigy’s earlier albums but still some great tracks (climbatize especially)

Good, solid album. All tracks well done. Lacks an emotional extra level for me. But still superb

Relentless. Consistent. Radge.

Diferente.

Great album! so so station generated.

Pretty good

A trio of unmatchable singles, some decent album tracks but there is filler and tracks are stretched out. While the heights are greater than previous album Jilted Generation it's not as consistent.

Great album. Had been awhile since I’d listened but really enjoyed that. Climbatize is amongst the best things the Prodigy have done. One Star off for that Firestarter nonsense but otherwise a top album

stress dream of bangers

Great album, one that I don’t listen to enough

Grungy, fast and nostalgic!

Just a solid album and loved all the music videos back in the day

Got a soft spot for this, even though I can't stand the genre in general. Every track is pretty engaging for its variety in sounds, beats and/or tempos. Narayana is the best.

Not what I usually would listen to, but interesting.

Thought this was related to crab rave - I was wrong. This appears to be the "original crab rave". And I really enjoyed this album. Everything somehow didn't sound the same and you were randomly blessed with vocals. Each track jammed, no complaints. Although, i'm not sure electronic music will ever be at the top of my list.

Haven't heard this one in a hot minute. It holds up if you're in that sorta mood

Some very iconic songs. Not something I would personally seek out but I can see its appeal, very energetic with strong beats.

The Fat of the Land is a good album, but the start of the demise of The Prodigy. The singles ("Firestarter", "Breathe" and "Smack My Bitch Up") are great songs, but the record also contains a lot of filler material.

That got to number one in about 1999 in America, and then the next the UK artist to get to number one was like Adele or somebody.

Not surprising that this was controversial when it was released. I recall that MTV did some stories about the misogynistic lyrics for a few days before they world premiered the video for a “one time only” showing. Overall I think this is above average electronica w some pop and rap tossed in. 3.5 stars and difficult for me to round up, but the cool cover art tipped the scales.

Tempted to go 5 but I was sensible. Loved it as a kid and still stands up fairly well I think. It sounded like nothing else at the time. It's not easy to make dance music into an engaging album either

completely forgotten how many great individual tracks there were on this album!

Banging

Me gusto

Solid album

I remember listening to this at 17/18 on a family holiday in Ireland. Using a CD player and some crappy headphones. It sounded dangerous then, as it still does now.

Didn't think I was gonna rate this but it ended up being pretty great. Relentless from the get-go.

If I ever need music for a rave, I know what I can use now. 4/5 stars

I knew the singles as this came out while I was in high school, but it was good to give a critical listen and hear the b-sides. Maybe my favorite dance music so far.

Some of the tracks on this album have not ages well. Others are ageless. Still brilliant

An amazing milestone album for the Prodigy. Love every track (even the weaker ones). Not quite a five though.

Jilted just edges this for me but has some seriously great tracks that still hold up today - brilliant stuff

Climbatize, Firestarter, ... all classics.

Finally listening to the album from which several of The Matrix OST tracks were taken. Whole album is pretty good, and really enjoyed listening to the familiar tracks again. Probably needed it today, when I'm feeling slightly grungy and angsty. 4 stars!

Great album in the right mood but a bit too much for most of the time.

A bit too matrix-sounding at first, but after another listen I'm into it. Kind of a classic sound. Great synth sounds. You really gotta be in the mood for all that energy though.

'avv it

some really nice songs, but got a bit repetitive

I am the Firestarter!!!

Very good!!! Trippy reminds me of The Flaming Lips

20 July 2021 Listened on my phone and laptop while working and going to sainsburys. It's great, they came in and just tore the place up.

FIRESTARTER

omg the matrix

Superb. So close to 5 star.

Still sounds great.

Jilted probably just edges this for me but has some seriously great tracks - brilliant stuff

Hermose

great one, a load of hits and great album overall

Very nice EDM album. Peak late nights electronic.

3+1 for personal

cooool

90s electro. A little to fast and crazy for me

Digging this

My first electronica album, and one that I've been meaning to revisit as a result of the trip-hop albums from this era that I've been listening to lately. Starts off really strong with two huge hits. The whole album is super high energy. Great sounds all the way through. It lags a bit in the middle, but that's partially a result of the fact that it starts off so strong. Perhaps the peak of angry dance music. 4/5

Smack my bitch up!

This was a lot of fun

Bom demais.

Muita coisa interessante aí.

1997. Key Songs: Smack My Bitch Up, Firestarter, Breathe

I feel like I’m in my own personal film soundtrack hacking mainframes and rollerblading around the city. Smack My Bitch Up Breathe Firestarter

Não curti... Electronica meio Z

i've never listened to much edm so this was a fun foray into the genre! not something i would listen to outside of a rave, though. i also did feel the misogyny #sorrynotsorry

Painfully 90s

Legal para danças urbanas.

3.5 ⭐️. Not quite Music for the Jilted Generation.

It's ok

3 - decent

Half of these songs sound like they could be used in a Breaking Bad montage & one of them sounded like they sampled the fitness gram pacer test. Strange but in a weird electronic, club-y way that I can enjoy when I’m in the right mood. I liked the songs that settled into the electronic production more than the lyrical ones, though. Three stars. STAND-OUT SONG: “Climbatize” HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Smack My Bitch Up”, “Funky Shit”, “Narayan”, “Fuel My Fire”

Decent enough for what it is

Classic sound from that era...even if they had an anthem about smacking bitches.

lowkey so lit. probably is the coolest thing to listen to on a motorcycle or something f

The music video for Smack My Bitch Up is high key iconic, like legit one of the best ever. One time when I was like 7, they showed it unedited on MTV2 because it was #1 on their Most Controversial Videos of All Time countdown (which I think was maybe hosted by Andrew WK but I could be making that part up) but anyway, I think it permanently altered my brain chemistry.

three stars especially since the "expanded edition" is the same album cover but with the crab copy and pasted like 20 times

Hardcore electronica Smack my bitch up Breathe Firestarter

Moby on meth, cool that they covered a L7 song. It has some fun beats, very high energy. I just can't take this for an hour.

I get why The Fat Of The Land is a 90s dance music legend, it really nails that wild, aggressive rave vibe. The huge tracks like "Breathe", "Firestarter", and (to a lesser extent) "Smack My Bitch Up" are absolute bangers that brought that raw, industrial energy straight into the mainstream. But honestly, listening to the whole thing in one sitting is a lot. The relentless energy gets old pretty fast. Once you move past the singles, it all just starts to sound the same. The heavy bass and shouted vocals eventually turn into a wall of noise that’s more exhausting than fun. It’s a cool time capsule for sure, but for me, it just doesn't hold up as a full album listen.

I was conflicted about this one. On the one hand it was repetitive which I usually don’t care for, but it did do some interesting things with sounds. I wished it had more substance but it kind of worked and all in all wasn’t bad to listen to.

Some fun tracks in there for sure

It's nice to hear again after all these years. But it's pretty bland, which is probably why I bought the CD then hardly played it back then.

I love Prodigy although I must admit I’m not an avid Prodigy album listener, I do prefer to listen to my favourite few and did enjoy hearing these live at Parklife in 2023. I did like this album but didn’t really enjoy listening to it. I think the songs as a standalone are great, especially the more well known ones. However, as a collective, it wasn’t my favourite. I prefer the album ‘Experience’ as a whole, despite preferring the main songs on this album.

I liked the style but they were all too similar.

This feels like the first proper EDM album I’ve gotten the whole time which is pretty crazy. The cover is also very reminiscent of crab rave. Album is ok overall but Firestarter is a banger

Unironically one of the best album covers ever. A strange blend of hip hop and electronic dance music. It's unconventional in every sense, but somehow still works and makes you want to dance.

In this project I am stuck in mid season. This one was fine and at least a little different. It techy and grungy and a little hard rocky. Not bad but not amazing.

Sigh. They could have picked literally ANY words to repeat over and over in the first song, and that's what they chose. It's unfortunate that sets the tone for the whole thing, because I actually really like this otherwise. It's chock full of cool funky beats!

found myself rockin out, better than expected techno!

Very techno

It was ok! Would be fun to hear in a club and def good to workout to, just didnt really do it for me

Svak 3er

Amazing album cover again lol. Love the crab rave vibes for my finals study sesh. 3/5

5/10 Album is fun, but there isn't much for me to grasp onto in terms of replay-ability.

This is a dumb album. It always has been, and I loved it because of it. I know it was defined as “electro punk” but the only other electro-punk album I knew of was Billy Idol’s Cyberpunk, which was panned as crap but I actually liked too. I never got the Prodigy thing, but I appreciated that there were so many influences wrapped into this album. First off, it’s techno-dance so it wasn’t intended for deep meaning, lyrical prose or conceptual consistency. It was made to get you moving, which it succeeds. I vividly remember listening to Smack My Bitch Up in the clubs and right after Shahin Bader’s Indian chant vocal part—which admittedly helped launch me into my World Music phase—the bass dropped and the room exploded. I was surprised to see Soundgarden/PJ drummer Matt Cameron was listed on Narayan, which is a great song. Diesel Power’s rap/techno/punk was interesting, but I was always surprised it was a one-off song. Key tracks for me were Narayan, SMBU, and Climbatize. The complaints against this album were and are deserved. It’s lyrically bad. It’s misogynistic. It’s still a fun listen, despite having to listen to on headphones to avoid a stream of negativity from my House o’ Feminism. Not an excuse, but it was the late ‘90s, and those who lived it get it….

Random thoughts: * Blast from the 90s past! * As I was listening to this album, I definitely had a copy of this one. Maybe a ripped copy of this album. * "Breathe" was always my favorite track from this album. "Psychosomatic addict, insane"!!! * Of course, Firestarter was probably the bigger hit and Smack My Bitch Up was more controversial, especially the video, which you couldn't have missed if you lived in the 90s. * Overall, this really captures the mid to late 90s and the rave/EDM scene at the time.

I've never really been a fan of techno, and this isn't really an exception for it, but I'll admit that there's some great grooves on this album. I'll give it 3 stars with the added nostalgia factor.

I'm sure if I took a load of e's then did a few lines of coke I'd feel differently, but it's just not my thing. Individually the songs are pretty good and definitely get you pumped up and in a chaotic, frenzied kind of mood, but they're all too long and it isn't until the penultimate songs that there's nay musical variety, ironically climbatize was my favourite on the album and the only one that strays into any different musical territory. Well produced, mixed and performed but not for me

Thought it sounded familiar! Mindfields is on the soundtrack of The Matrix. Definitely fits the time and vibe.

Smack my Garg up! Smack my Garg up!

I actually mostly enjoyed this. Cool production quality. Fun hooks. Catchy hip-hop. Not in my wheelhouse, but it was a fun listen.

Heck yeah. Middle school gym class dodgeball

Very much danceable.

Solid background/movie music. This pumped me up but the longs tracks were a bit meandering. Top tracks: "Narayan," "Serial Thrilla"

--Smack My Bitch Up...great music video --Breathe...very British vocalist --Diesel Power...Kool Keith! --Funky Shit...Beastie Boys sample. I'd rather listen to whatever Beastie track this is a sample of --Serial Thrilla...the chavs are free --Mindfields…decent club rock --Narayan...the first four minutes bored me, things pick up eventually --Firestarter...did not know Kim Deal got a credit for this. nice --Climbatize...sick bass. I also like the rattling sound in the background --Fuel My Fire...huh, an L7 cover. it humps

I remember hearing one of those songs in a flash game 🎮way back then... Soo good 😃Oh yeah, my favorite album thus far. Thank you so much 💖🦀

Ganska extrem video. Anyway, albumet var helt ok.

you wouldn’t steal a car

favorite tracks were diesel power and funky shit, generally a really fun edm listen but some of it was not for me, especially smack my bitch up

What if Johnny Rotten fronted an electronic dance band? Fun in parts, but also long and repetitive throughout

Sure, no problem. Definitely blended into the background after a while. 3/5

Ancient method electronica

neat, experimental

It was ok

Quite enjoyed this, definitely a few solid bangers!! Very ravey and cool, can imagine loving them at a festi

Tjis album bridged dance and alternative/indie mainly thanks the big singles. These still sound as vibrate today as when Firestarter was terrorising the charts. The rest however was better in my memory than hearing now. It’s not bad just nothing great.

There's a very long review of this album on the site (correctly) taking about the optics of a song where someone repeatedly shouts "Smack my bitch up". I remember there being some controversy over it at the time (although mostly because The Prodigy seems to make about 75% of their decisions based on how much controversy they could cause). All I can say in my defence is that this came out when I was 16, and it did not even register in my teenage mind that I probably shouldn't be enjoying something with those lyrics. It's catchy! I love Breathe, and always have. I like it better than Firestarter, which was absolutely the biggest hit, and the one that seems to have had the most staying power. Of the non-singles, I most enjoyed the random appearance of Kular Shaker's Crispian Mills on Narayan. I do think a little bit of The Prodigy goes a very long way though, and 56 minutes is a lot. I'd like a 2.5, but instead: 3/5

I like the prodigy and some of these songs are bangers but the whole album sounds the same

Drie klassiekers.

"Only brainless people get some stupid message out of it."

Never got into them at the time, but I appreciate their importance in blending electronic and rock. On the whole the album was listenable but nothing stood out for me and a found a lot of it repetitive. I obviously knew a few of the tracks and of course firestarter, but it never appealed to me then and it still does not. Standout track was Breathe. I wont listen to this again. 3 stars

Not my style but interting ☝️

pretty epic, would love to dance to this at a club but not super enjoyable for how I listen to music

i’m kinda picking up what they’re putting down.

Couple cool songs. Not much else

Recognizable, danceable , though not my thing

not my taste, electro is not my style

not very into electric and some of the lyrics were a little too screamy to me, but i loved all the different rock elements and i'm always happy to listen to new stuff

Surprised to agree with my teenage self; I didn’t really think much of it overall despite some great tracks.

I liked it more than I expected to. So that’s something.

The singles from this album are absolute all-timers. The rest is a mixed bag. Still worth a listen nonetheless.

Definitely a standout of electronic music of the time so I can see why it belongs on the list. Nothing really stands out for me personally.

Fun but unimportant.

Interesting electronic album. A bit to much for what I was doing yesterday but ver good option for training

This is my favorite electronic album that I have received some 390+ albums in. I know that that it partly due to how "pop" this album is and also because I have heard at least the three main singles before. While this can be tedious like all electronic music in my opinion, the songs are catchy and are able to maintain my interest.

Not my typical wheelhouse as far as genres go. That said, if I am going to listen to this type of music, this is probably one of the better bands to roll with. I recognize the hits, and the hits were strong and impactful at the time. A full album is a lot to absorb, I prefer a few tracks sprinkled into a mix. 3.5/5

I enjoyed this more than their Jilted Generation album. Probably based on the three more well known songs. I don’t mind listening to them with a single song here and there. Serves its purpose I suppose. But a front to back listen admittedly is an ear challenge. It all starts to sound alike. Still, the impact and popularity of this one can’t be overlooked.

This genre isn’t really my cup of tea but this was more enjoyable than I expected and have to respect the impact these guys had in the late 90s. Smack my bitch up (it was a girl at the end!!!!), breathe and fire starter were everywhere at the time. Diesel power was a nice surprise (I didn’t know they rapped!) While somewhat repetitive it was a solid listen overall. 3.25

I just listened to the episode of the POD Kast about this album last week and was hoping for an excuse to relisten to this. I enjoy this album, even if it's kinda dumb guy heavy raver music. The Prodigy found their own lane around this time and I don't think we've begun to see the last of their influence.

Incredibly Loud, with a lot to digest. Interesting and still holds up kinda

I'm not a fan of this kind of music. And I may not listen to this album again. However, I found this one pretty interesting. This is between 2 and 3 stars, but I'm leaning towards 3 stars.
