Reviews (page 4 of 8)
An album I am quite familiar with. So many strong tracks on here and this album was quite influential in its time. Worth a relisten.
Now this is good German electro
Like wet Tacos on a moonlight patio. Smooth, sultry, suductive fruit smoothie with a splash of MDMA.
Gostei muito! Não conhecia e adorei. Achei bem bom pra usar como som ambiente, ótimo para fazer atividade física, se alongar e usar em ensaio. Melhor música: Sparks
Good catchy inviting stuff. A bit whimsical too
I went into this blind, not knowing anything about the band, only having seen the name. I was surprised that I knew the first two tracks, though I'm not sure how. I'm not all that knowledgeable about electronic music, but I really dug this album, start to finish. Very organic, bubbly sounds. Nice melodies. Sounds like a sunrise, which has nothing to do with the album cover art. Good music to work to. 3.5 stars, but let's bump it up to 4.
This is my go-to vibe. I was not familiar with Röyksopp prior to this listen but I definitely got into this type of jam in the early 2000s with Groove Armada, Air, Different Gear.
I'm a sucker for circa 2000 trip-hop
Great!
Dreamy
Hörte Mbw C. damals™️. Mochte ich, besonders natürlich Eile, aber nie mit beschäftigt. Warum eigentlich nicht? Schlechte 4.
Superb chill out album.
Para estar clasificado como Dance, este disco de hecho me pareció muy agradable. Momentos bailables, sí, pero también a raro un algo melódico que lo hace entretenido y alcanza la 4ª estrella.
Completely forgot to rate this one so I’ve kinda forgotten everything about it but I remember liking it a good amount
A pretty enjoyable electronic, samply, disco, trip-hop album, but I think some ideas run thin over the runtimes in their respective songs. Other than the highlights, I don't see myself coming back to this album as it feels pretty average. Although, I really do like Royksopp's Night Out. Highlights: 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8.
7/10. Cool.
This album has a pretty eclectic mix of sounds and styles. There’s some experimental stuff and also some more pop-friendly (even clubby) jams (like “Poor Leno”). Some are in between like “Eple,” which has those weird little off-key notes in its hook. There’s also some chill, blippy-bloopy electronica (like “Remind Me,” “A Higher Place,” and the spacey “In Space”) and even some jazzy numbers (“She’s So”). This is an album worth listening to closely but it can also slip into the background for hangouts, smoking, studying, or writing. There’s a newer electronic artist I like called Caribou that a lot of these songs remind me of. No question Caribou counts Röyksopp as an influence. Cool to hear that connection! Also “Sparks” sounds like Portishead! Highlights: “So Easy,” “Eple,” “Poor Leno”
I tend to find Röyksopp‘a music a bit of a hit or miss affair (including their very latest 2022 release). However, this one is definitely a hit, and Eple is one of those hits that transcend time.
i liked some of this, but i shouldn't have tried to listen at work - more of a put on your headphones and zone out album.
Bangers, men vissa svagheter
Det är så bra! Mycket bättre och low key än junior, som även om det är fint, är det lite väl glättrigt ibland.
Such a fun, yet relaxing listen. Not a single "bad" song, just some are better than others. I'd happily add this to my collection.
Very enjoyable. And very early 2000s. It feels nostalgic even though I can't remember any of this being played, since I was born 2 months after the release, but it feels familiar. 4
Beautiful soundscape of an album - ebbs and flows.
weird and interesting i really liked
I'm sucker for this sort of downtempo chillout post-club electronica, and I liked this album when it first came out. Fave track - "So Easy" and "Eple" are both pretty iconic. Love the guitar trill in "A Higher Place" too...
interesting electronic music. "She's So" is very reminiscent of Vangelis and Pink Floyd
Loved this.
Still stands up more than 20 years on.
Didn't recognize the name, but ended up recognizing a couple of the songs. I realized at the end that I didn't closely listen to the album since I had it on while I was working, but it did set a nice mood for doing said work. Will probably bookmark this one and play it as work music again.
Remember when this hit in the pre streaming days and so was a bit harder to just give a listen without buying it. Listening to a few tracks in the CD shop didn't do it justice as I feel it needs a few solid sessions before it becomes ingrained. I didn't 'get it' back then but it has become a stable that I return to quite often nowadays. sits somewhere between a 3 and 4 for me listened to is on a plane just last week
Relaxing. Pretty good. I would definitely listen to his again.
Loved it!
This album was hyped a lot around its release date. Great album overall but perhaps a bit too loungy for me and some of the vocal tracks are so so.. and perhaps not everyone will agree but: just listen to the Mandy remix of "Sparks" how much the album could have been further improved if they had upped the electro bits.
This was pretty good. There are similar albums that I would give 5 stars without hesitation, but this one is just a little bit too loungy for me to give it full marks.
great background music. Fun easy dance pop
Flew by, fun album, nowt mind-blowin but I like it.
beep boop and also bleep bloop
it was pretty good
nice melodic trance album that doesnt get boring somehow
Lowfi for the P.M.
easy listening, def hear some daft punk influence but may be tripping poor leno was not a hit with sarah
I'd forgotten how much I love this album and artist in general. A nice reminder and nudge to listen again!
I loved this. Perfect music to work to in my opinion. Listened to it twice.
Good electronic music. Perfect to put on and zone out (and I mean that as a good thing.)
Very smooth and relaxing
pretty good
Really good album of its genre.
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: So Easy, Eple, In Space, Poor Leno, A Higher Place, Remind Me Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Portishead that you can play at the hang out without attracting the freaks
Pretty damn good! Will chill to that stuff at some point. Also, "40 Years Come" gave me BOTH Blur AND Earthbound vibes, which is phenomenal.
Some big hits on this.
Very electric, nice for listen while working
Mjög næs dilli-tónlist
I don’t seek it out, but like it when I listen to it. Nice chill club or after party music.
Good level of bangers
Chilled
This is weirdly chill. Kinda reminds me of Blank and Jones and in a good way. I like it.
Mellow gold.
very smooth, very enjoyable, flows great
Full of bops
Funky and chill, good background music 8/10
6/10 not my style, but still good. Very good while working and also good spotify radio with it
wow echt van genoten! zeer cool met headphone. Zeker iets wat ik nog ga opzetten.
Eple is an all time classic and the rest stacks up just behind it.
It's pretty good.
Great atmosphere
Fun album! Interesting electronic duo.
catchy ephemeral downtempo lounge beats. A familiar and nostalgic album for me, but it's aged well. 4/5
I had heard of this artist before but had never listened to anything of theirs (except maybe snippets). Still pleasantly surprised. This was chill work music, and I did enjoy it.
I've been listening to a lot of soft, electronic at work lately and have heard several albums that outclassed Melody AM. It's definitely not bad, but I think there are some better albums to choose from.
This is the kind of lo-fi music I put on to get work done, but not something I would sit and listen to on its own.
Started strong but my attention was drifting by the end.
# Playlist Track - So Easy # Notes - Really enjoyable, but does not have momentum to carry an entire album. The first few tracks are great tho!
It’s a much better listen than the other techno record I listened to this week by Fatboy Slim. Solid Background Music
Yeah it’s fine. Electronic music in general is not really my thing. I find it all very similar and forgettable. 3/5
Nicely produced, easy listening, but probably won't listen again
Very good
heel chill, ook echt vaag
Hypnotic and chill
Well enough ok.
Moderately enjoying this vibey album when suddenly I am hit with the song from the first GEICO Caveman commercial. Iconic. Yeah, it’s fine. Pleasant enough. Listened to it a couple times. Doesn’t inspire a lot of excitement because it’s so kinda chill.
Interesting and a little weird. Oddly relaxing. I preferred the funky-er stuff. Really, it makes you feel like you're in some futuristic noir film. Like a soundtrack to something you can't place. "She's So" was my favorite track. The added saxophone set it apart.
Very fun and somewhat odd electronic album. I really like the twinkling sound design in some of these tracks such as "Eple". They just bring a joyous a playful energy to the table that is really infectious. Key tracks: So Easy Eple Poor Leno
Q Magazine yet again. Epie popped up on one of their amazing cds which led me to the album. While the rests is probably not as good in terms of melody, it is still a very good listen.
I found this more enjoyable than a lot of the electronics I have generated but I liked it less the second time I listened to it. I think I’ll give it a 3 and see if it starts growing on me. I added “Epie” to my playlist.
Another one I do not agree should be considered a T1001 album, I'm basically at an 80% No ratio right now. I am convinced I will create my own T1001 list when I retire and have the time to dedicate, I hope you all will join me and provide biting feedback and the occasional praise. It's got a decent listener count and tracks like "So Easy" and "Eple" top out at 44M and 70M respectively but did this break new ground in 2001? No, but it's an enjoyable album. Must hear before I die stuff? Nope. "Eple" is the catchy highlight, I had it on an electronica sample disc back in the day so it's one I know. "Röyksopp's Night Out" is fun, but it's about 3 minutes too long. Songs like "Sparks", "In Space" and "She's So" have no soul, it's just bland background music and the boring factor drowns it out. The rest is enjoyable background music but you won't hear anyone saying "dude, throw that killer Röyksopp album on again". 3 stars for vanilla-ness but with a few decent grooves added in.
Unfortunately suffering from way too strong a start. So Easy and Eple are classics. Once again though this is an album with well known songs and then 'the rest'. It was interesting to give it a proper listen but I don't think I'll be revisiting it. Remind Me does make think of (might even remind me har har) Cascade by Floating Points so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't at least partly an inspiration. Highlight: Eple (with the intro from the end of So Easy). Honestly those two songs are twinned in my head. Also Impossible by Royksopp is a banger but that's just as an aside.
A little bit lofi beats, a little bit of dystopian jazz, a little bit of Geico commercial, but all vibes.
Nice to listen to in the background while working but not something I would necessarily choose to actively listen to. That being said it sounded nice!
This was alright. The vibes were cool, but not really my genre. Three stars.
Good chill disc, except for the songs with vocals.
Pretty solid for chilling.
I mean its pretty decent downtempo but its hardly a revolutionary, genre-defining must-listen.
This took me a few sessions to get all the way through but it wasn't bad, just not compelling to me personally. Fine. Wish it was a bit More.
good album has a folk dance kinda vibe
3.5
Seemed cool but I wasn’t in the mood for dance music
i've listened to this in full years ago, and have definitely heard Eple dozens of times over the years. still, it's been a while. i'll listen again for rating purposes So Easy - 4/5 Eple - 5/5 Sparks - 4/5 In Space - 4/5 Poor Leno - 3/5 A Higher Place - 3/5 Röyksopp's Night Out - 3/5 Remind Me - 3/5 She's So - 3/5 40 Years Back / Come - 3/5 Average score: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ meh. it's alright. personally, the momentum kinda dies down after the first 4 tracks, but it's not the worst music ever. i really only come back to this for Eple anyway so most of the other tracks are just underwhelming in comparison
Oddly, was listening to a lot of electronica at the time but never got this. Starts very strong.but does descend to bog standard downtempo. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Some Owned: No 75/300 (25%) Will I get: Maybe
I’m not into electronic music as a rule but I like techno-influenced pop music like Moby and Fatboy Slim and trip hop like Portishead and Massive Attack and and down-tempo electronica like Air, so this could have worked for me. I think the line for me is that - while I like an album to have songs that repeat themes and mesh together somewhat - the album has to have songs that I can tell one from another. Even with jazz with no vocals where the songs are called “Jelly Roll Blues” or something, I don’t need to know the song name, but I need to be able to go “Oh yeah, this is the one that goes “Ba Ba ba BAH ba Ba ba” and be able to differentiate that one from the other songs on the album. The album can’t just be 45 minutes of hold music. I need songs. But because I’m a Goldilocks, the songs have to mesh and be connected somehow if I am going to love the album. But that is extra. The first job is for the album to have songs that I can tell one from another in some way. You do that and I may like your album. Then turn those individual songs into a song cycle, while still maintaining their Individual distinctiveness, and I may love it. I am glad to have made this realization about my preferences and to have articulated it. Oscar Wilde probably didn’t say “Self-discovery is the secret of life.” But the internet says he did and I didn’t take even five seconds to verify whether that quote was accurate but I’m out here doing self discovery. I like songs and now I know that about myself. Good job me. This album is alright.
Enjoyable listen. Great background music while I work, just a bit boring.
Decent album, easy to listen to, though nothing at all stands out on this one to me. Not a complaint, I actually like it, and if I'm looking for something in the relaxing electronica genre this fits the bill.
3.5
Continues the very U.K.-centered nature of the 1001 albums list in that it seems only people in the U.K. were interested in this when it came out about a quarter century ago. Still, a nice electronica album that I'm not sorry I've now heard. Doubt I'll be coming back to it anytime soon, though.
good electronica album
chill like that
Pretty solid electronic album. Favorite track(s) A Higher Place Remind Me
Good. That first song has a killer bass line I should learn. Listened at work and didn’t pay a ton of attention
Totally fine Euro-pop. I have no further statement at this time. Except for the fact that Royskopp and The Knife are two different musical acts, which is one thing I learned from this list.
I fully enjoyed this. It was a nice break from the rock-bands-I-know-I-should-appreciate-more-but-mostly-just-sound-like-the-music-that-came-just-before-the-stuff-I-actually-like. It was just weird enough to sound like it didn't come from the US, which I also appreciated. I've added this to my library and plan to come back to it.
I mostly know Röyksopp from their work with Robyn, and that's apparently how it should be, because I think this album is...fine. Like a lot of chill electronic music, it quickly fades into the background for me, which is why I prefer bangers like "Eple" and "Poor Leno." I added those to my running playlist, but I don't anticipate revisiting this album. Hit me up if they work with Robyn again, though.
Interesting album. Parts of it definitely felt like I was listening to a movie soundtrack. It was easy to listen to while I worked, but little caught my attention.
Pleasant, unremarkable. Disposable.
It's fine. Surgery music
Enjoyable but not outstanding
Kinda funky electronic. I liked it
Album 183. Melody A.M. (https://open.spotify.com/album/4WOZU9evfEO7eI6ICsoGN0?si=RY7CR14kRUWfm4JyM_Jcyg) — Röyksopp (2001) Nice and mostly calm electronic music. Nothing was added to the playlist, but I enjoyed the listen. 3/5 No liked songs
Had moments of shine and moments of mundanity. More interesting and engaging than some of the trance albums on this list. Definitely feels foreign. I may or may not come back to this kind of unsure at the moment.
In the land of electronic music, it wasn't bad. But again, it's electronic dance music and it only get so good I'm afraid. But this sat in the background and didn't beg me to turn it off.
thought the name sounded norwegian n yep it is! älskar norge, mina grannar<3 pretty good, rly interesting, not rly my taste tho
Festlig
This is what's playing in my local dimly lit speakeasy.
Not bad, some good hits, like the one from the Apple commercial.
Nothing wrong with it, just not my thing
Highlights: So Easy, Eple. In a nutshell: cinematic chill. With the resurgence of French house, trip hop, lounge and nu-jazz in Europe from the late 90s onwards, Röyksopp did their thing and became a club staple. Anyone remember the Ministry of Sound Chillout Sessions CD series? Yes? This might unlock core memories if you. Röyksopp are a staple in the series. If not, it's exactly what it reads the tin- downtempo, lo-fi, ambient and breezy tunes. It's waking up hungover on a Saturday morning and needing a cuppa. It's strutting around the pool and lying down in a lounge chair to sunbathe. One way to chill before "Netflix and chill" was a thing. As to if Melody A.M. is essential listen for an everyday person, probably not. You can get by with listening to some of the singles. It's a deep dive album if you're new to downtempo. A must have if this is your jam. Overall: 5/10
I thought this was boring. As each song ended I hoped it was the last.
Interesting genre pick
7.5 / 10
kinda feels like budget daft punk
This feels like updated elevator music; it's smooth, inoffensive, and easy to nod along to for a few minutes while you’re waiting. It’s pleasant enough, but not something I’d ever really seek out. Still, enjoyable in its own low-key way.
Never heard of them before, but I like this a lot so far. Wouldn’t call it dance music, but it’s very soothing and envelopes one in calmness. I want to listen to it on a drive at nighttime. Added to my Apple Music collection! 🇳🇴
Easy listening electronic tunes.
Not bad, not exception. Pretty M I D
I really enjoyed this one! I've never heard of them before, but I had a lot of fun listening to this album. A solid 50mins of psychedelic sounds!
A descent effort, but sounded a bit too much like the other trip-hop artists that came before them to stand out.
Yeah, along with everybody else in 2002, I bought this to play pre-clubbing and we all felt very cool and suave drinking our supermarket beer and doing our hair. And honestly, 80% of this is pretty forgettable filler but it was worth owning for Eple and Royksopp's Night Out alone at the time. Just make sure you find the full release with the latter on it, as it increases the songs worth keeping it for by one.
volveria
Tolerable while sober (this is high praise for electronica from me). Probably enjoyable while high.
Interesante...como soundtrack de película o background
This album came dangerously close to the dreaded EDM line for me but I can definitely see it as a useful background track for when I'm in need of such
Though I’d never knowingly heard this album before today, this sounds like the early part of the 2000s, because it feels like you could hear this kind of downtempo electronic music in a lot of places. It’s pleasant sounding with warm analog synths, beats ranging from subdued house music to electro-dub, to hip hop/trip hop. The compositions have enough going on that it’s not just aural wallpaper, but it also feels like it’s never so far from that either. I’ve certainly come across far less enjoyable things on here, but there’s not much about this that stands out either.
Lofi beats?! aight lets go Sparks is super soothing and good this was cool. glad I listened to it, nothing ground breaking tho
Ideal para tejer o scrapbookear
The album was a vibeeeeee. I'm not really into the electro genre but it was definitely fun to listen to in the background. I normally try to focus on the album but I just let it play while I was busy and really liked the atmosphere created by the sound. Would I listen to the songs as singles? Maybe... Would I listen to the whole album while doing chores? 100%. I might rate it higher on another listen but for now i'm okay with a 3. Rating : 6.8 Favorite track : A Higher place
I have listened to this album, but often accidentally because it was everywhere- adverts, inoffensive hotel bars. Atmospheric bleeps and bloops soulful vocals and low key beats are the heart of the album, and whilst it doesn’t really drag you in it’s engaging
2.5/5
I liked the "instrumental" tracks better than I liked any of the vocals. Overall, I enjoyed this album and would definitely put it on as background music again in the future.
It has some good vibes but falls under the same problems with most electronic music with repetition. I do like the production, I think some songs has some pretty unique elements and there’s enough from this group to stand out from other electronic artists. This is probably a “listen to it more than once” kind of album. I did enjoy my time with it.
Background music
Royslop...thought it was interesting
Lots of unique production choices and interesting samples.
Not at all unpleasant, but really nothing all that groundbreaking either
There are moments I really like this album, but only moments, and only really like. This has turned out to be one of the albums with the most recognisable tracks on the list for me - I recognise the opening track So Easy, it was everywhere back in the day as a bedding track. Same for the second track, Eple. And Remind me is familiar thanks to the its great music video. However, do I like Remind Me or do I just like the music video for it and the association is strong enough? Also, is the suitablility of these songs as bedding tracks a point in their favour or against it? Are they chill, or just wallpaper? For me, the answer is that they are chill, but I don't think that I am going to spend a lot more time listening to them.
musique de con mais a du bon
Un peu bizarre assez planant mais y'a un truc qui m'a dérangé
God plade, en af de mest æble-relaterede vi har haft jo.
Pretty chill! Especially while on Oslo 🇳🇴
It's not bad, but think it's really held up by one song.
Decent album with 2 big tunes on it. A few other solid tracks, and then some filler.
Rating: 6/10 A decent entry in the genre of electronic that follows the mellow and calming sound and atmosphere which 90's Downtempo and trip hop influences perfected. It's good, but doesn't hold up to the giants of albums that preceded it. Reminds me most of Boards of Canada but almost with this synthpoppy feel, and clear smooth vocals in the songs
Serviceable but unexceptional. Part of the 1001 albums to be uninspired by before you die collection
As someone with very little exposure to electronic based music, this was quite an enjoyable listen. Perfect music to put on in the background while building a Lego set or doing chores. While not as exciting as some albums on this list, I still felt it was solid. 3/5.
Okie Dokie, not entirely looking forward to this one, but let's see how it goes... overall, this is just fine. Fun production but nothing really pulling me back to listening again
If it's from Norway and it ain't Metal or Lene Marlin, I'm not interested. This is, at best, chilled and fine.
Wholly forgettable ambient house.
First I've heard of this group. Pleasant enough background music
This has the vibe of an AI generated playlist.
Saw these 2 live once. Loudest concert I've ever attended. But I do like their work.
Overall Rating - 2.70/5 (5.40/10). Not bad, but I probably wouldn't listen to it again.
Står i vissa sammanhang betecknad som ambient. Det tycker jag att dra det lite väl långt. Däremot är beundran för och vänskapen med den Tromsöbördige ambienta technopionjären Biosphere obestridlig. Stilmässig bör man snarare placera in Røyksopp i det samtida downtempofacket bredvid Air, Boards of Canada och Inte minst Groove Armada.
Hüt morge um Melody A.M. het bini vode sanfte, nostalgische Kläng vo Röyksopp gweckt worde. Au wenns nüm so ganz die elektronisch Musig isch woni verfolge, hets mer doch no recht gmundet. 3 A.M. by Göytschopp
Toffe liedjes, kende er een paar van
You’re at the beach, sitting on a terrace having a drink. It’s 2 a.m. and you don’t have to work tomorrow. This record is playing in the background. Life is good.
An okay album, I liked Poor Leno the most.
'So easy, a caveman could do it.' 'So Easy' is my favorite track on here. My friends and I used to listen to it and quote the dialogue at the end to each other. 'Four hundred? I'm coming over.' It runs nicely into ‘Eple’ which is another good track.
Very good vibe music. Poor Leno and Remind Me were highlights. I can't imagine giving this my full attention, but it gave a nice wash of comfort on a chilly day.
Rating (out of 10): 7.5/10
Here is yet another electronic album I have really been wanting to hear and unfortunately I was a bit let down this time around. Melody A.M. is a bit all over the place sonically, but when this album hits it goes absolutely insane to the point where it is some of the best Electronic music of the 2000s. This project isn't as tight as I would have liked, especially when looking at the few but extremely memorable peaks of this album. It seems like Röyksopp was sort of throwing ideas at the wall to see what sticks and sometimes hit an utterly perfect bullseye in the midst of the chaotic album tracklisting. It is a pretty enjoyable project for someone who isn't as nitpicky as I am with electronic music, but all in all this thing really throws you around and hopes that all the bumps are enjoyable when really they leave you a bit dazed.
Album de musique électronique qui nous embarque dans un super voyage. Sans connaître, on reconnait le style de musique électronique scandinave. On se surprend à passer un agréable moment en leur compagnie. Note : 3 A réécouter : Oui
Not sure how to rate this one…it’s pretty nice, there are a lot of sweet and groovy moments. It’s kinda like Portishead a little bit with the slow and lo-fi ish grooves. But it’s a little techno with some warm and warbly synths. There were some ear-catching moments, but I had a hard time staying engaged with it overall. I think the whole thing is kinda meh, even if there’s a standout song every now and then
Nice ambience. I enjoyed it enough
5/10
Music interestingly built. Nothing very interesting happening with lyrics.
I'm slowly starting to understand ambience/dance music. While listening to new music, I've been playing PowerWash Simulator to relax but also to understand the lyrics and instrumentals a lot better than if I were to play a game that deals with a lot more mechanics. I've enjoyed a little of this album, so I will give it a 3 for right now as it was average for a listening experience.
Pre listening thoughts: Eurgh.. Röyksopp… creators of TV ad music. Post listening thoughts: Oh.. Röyksopp… creators of the worlds best TV ad music.
I've had opinions on British electronic music and French electronic music for some time now, but now it's time for me to form an opinion on some Norwegian electronic music! How fun! I've got to say, my first impressions are fairly positive. Melody A.M. is a good album! Röyksopp ride the line between dance music and ambient music on this album and the results aren't half bad. Well, I'd say it's less like riding the line and more hopping back and forth between both sides every so often. I feel like the jump from song to song is a little jarring at times. Going from the more atmospheric "In Space" to the pure club music of "Poor Leno" is the clearest instance of this. I do think that this hurts the album's flow a little, but it's not that big of a complaint in the grand scheme of things. It could be much worse. I mean, at least the album's songs sound different from one another! The production here is pretty good all throughout. It's not flawless. I think the closer "40 Years Back Come" is a little wonky, but other songs like "Eple" are rock-solid. Melody A.M. isn't, like, amazing or anything, but I had a good time with it. It's the kind of album that works pretty well as background music, but isn't really the best for focusing on. It is a-okay in my books. High 3/5.
Nothing terrible, but also nothing grabbed me
Pleasant but unremarkable. Probably better than the three I'm giving it here, but I just can't really bothered to wax poetic about their musical capabilities when it's still zone out music. It feels like a precursor to RJD2's deadringer, if he had restraint. Better on headphones when you focus on it, but still, zone-out music.
Is this kind of music intended for the foreground or the background? I typically judge this kind of music by asking the following question: If this were playing in a record shop, restaurant, or cafe, would it make me feel better or worse about my decision to spend time and money there? In the first few minutes I thought, I would probably buy more records than otherwise if this were playing when I walked into the shop. But after half an hour I was thinking, this restaurant is trying too hard. So I dunno. I'm giving it three stars because it sounds more deliberate than just some stoners goofing around with the special effects knobs, but I don't know that this kind of music could ever get more than that because I can't take it seriously as foreground music.
It's always hard to know (for me, at least) how to rate an album in the context of this collection that's more or less designed to be background music. But even if this isn't really a must-hear album, I still enjoyed listening to it, especially once "Eple" came on and I realized that I now had a name to go with that catchy hypnotic track, and then later the same realization with "Poor Leno". Other highlights for me were the Portishead-inspired "Sparks" and the semi-funk "Royksopp's night out" . It's not really music made to stand out, I know, but Royksopp definitely found a solid groove to kick off the 21st century.
Okay
Meh. 3 stars
Interesting! Pleasant to have on -- not sure anything really grabbed me from it
Yea okay!
I like their collabs with other artists (like Robyn) better.
Nice stuff. Will be used in the background while I’m at work.
Lekker hitje, voor de rest leuk maar niet super geweldig ofzo
Not my jam usually, but I enjoyed the melodies on this one.
ok
I was familiar with the opening track "So Easy", but nothing else. I found the album a bit bland and boring, perfect for background music or for chilling-out.
Good album but not my style always but I enjoy it
Marriott hotel lobby vibe.
Dude enough with the average electronica
It floats by
Interesting but not Bjork. Not sure if that is good or bad
Bra med nostalgi, men kanske inte så bra album som jag kom ihåg
Bon mood, musicalement intéressant, l'absence de paroles me gênent cependant
Interesting but not really my thing
I would return to this for like studying. I didn’t mind it. Thoughts it was chill!
Sneaky little three-star, so I can see what today’s album is, and I will come back and listen to this one later.
Easy listening. Not very special, but nice!
6/10
I recall hearing the first track a lot, around and about. An atmospheric, electronic, dance kind of album. This is EDM I guess. Not my thing. Not bad. But not my thing.
Morning, tranquil European vibes make ‘Melody A.M.’ a strong listen for background music. Top tracks: “Eple,” “Remind Me,” “Poor Leno,” “A Higher Place”
Really expected to hate this, euro pop generally not my thing at all, but this is lovely. Nice ambient sounds, great in the background, glad I got to spend some time with it. No real "bangers" but that's fine by me, as Europop + Banger usually means yuck. But this is solid..
--So Easy...nice opener --Eple...fun sci-fi instrumental --Sparks...lyrics! I was not expecting lyrics based on the first two tracks. Portishead vibe to this one --In Space...a pleasant sound collage --Poor Leno...don't love the autotune. this feels like a typical euroclub stuff --A Higher Place...another fun collage with a great beat drop --Röyksopp's Night Out...wonder what they got up to. sounds funky --Remind Me...more generic euroslop --She's So...nice background music --40 Years Back Come...first half seems weird for weirdness' sake. I like the more ethereal second half
A nice electronic journey. Wish it was a bit more uptempo, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
Poor leno was my favorite by far, pretty good ambient/housy grooves otherwise, nothing too crazy but enjoyed regardless
Liked it on first listen. Started fading on me as I peeped more, I need to find a version of Sparks without the singing cuz that beat is a vibe.
Quite good, 3 1/2, so once again I'll rate either too low or too high, eh, what are you gonna do? Fav: Eple A Higher Place Poor Leno
*Melody AM* This album is definitely a mood. I'm glad listened to this after the Christmas rush, because a relaxed headspace it's easier to take this in. There are parts of this I really enjoyed. Most notably "So Easy", "Apel", and Röyksopp's Night Out. The first two along with the closer "40 Years Back Come" though closer to Soft Jazz meets Electronica, I coukd see myself use in ways I'd use New Age music. Meditation and relaxation. "Night Out" has a different theatrical spy vibe. If say the best on the album. The biggest thing that pulls blme out of the peaceful vibes is the trio of songs from "In Space" to "A Higher Place" they are far bringer and feel brighter, colder more mechanical than my Mir fav Warm grove over a cold beat. (6.85) ★★★
"Eple" and "Poor Leno" are classics, the rest hit-or-miss. 3.5 stars
I thought this album was okay. I didn't dislike it, but I think there's a ceiling for my enjoyment of these largely instrumental electronic albums. 3 stars.
Remind me is a heck of an ear worm. I enjoyed it his background music but for me I don’t think it’s genre will ever rise above that so well enjoyable it’s not gonna be one of those perfect albums.
This album and its constant repetition reminded me of a song I heard on a local radio program like 20ish years ago. it was a content block at 1am or something and the host played the most obscure stuff. I distinctly remember being in my car and the song lyrics going "no matter what you do, its always the same. its always the same. its always the same." and the entire song repeated that until it finished. Thats what this whole album felt like. Sure, some interesting sounds here there, but its always the same.
This is an easy album to break down. First: Make a fairly basic sounding trip hop beat Second: Take a vocal sample. Any vocal sample. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. And then repeat it. Done! Nothing terribly offensive about this listening experience but absolutely nothing essential either. You’ve heard this done before and done better but hey 1001 is a lot of albums
This album is good at what it does, but it's missing something for me. I found myself appreciating a lot of segments of songs, but rarely an entire song. There was some great stuff on here but I thought the album was oddly back loaded as well.
Fine
Quite pleasant.
That's what I call human music volume 3
Inoffensive, gentle beep boops. I didn't hate this.
Like their ambient/ electronic sound. First time listening to. Good relaxing music. Thanks
Beeps and boops. Can’t help but think of Geico commercials
Feels like it's pretty effective at what it's trying for, which I think is neat.
Another Miami Beach hotel lobby bathroom soundtrack although surprisingly enjoyable. Initially inclined to rate a 2 but feeling generous to encourage me to come back someday. 3/5
Its decent isnt it, it makes me long for a kind of music that doesn't exist anymore. Eple threw me back into early 2000's and gave me whiplash. No one makes chill out music any more, and maybe that's what the world needs. Not really, chill out music is boring, a bit like this album.
Röyksopp's "Melody A.M." initially held promise. The opening track, "So Easy", immediately appealed with its lovely, mellow tone, pairing charming vocal melodies with a subtle, pulsing electronic rhythm. However, by the third track, a low-key vibe had firmly established itself. While pleasant, this sustained relaxation verged on the inert, lacking an essential edge needed to sustain interest. This absence caused a sharp dip; by the time "In Space" arrived, the album was drifting into dull and uninteresting territory. The mood shifted decisively with "Poor Leno", which delivered a much-needed jolt of energy via its catchy, driving bass line and accelerated tempo. The album's dynamic potential was finally realized around the 2:44 mark of "A Higher Place," providing the track with a vital, soaring lift. This upward trajectory continued brilliantly into the danceable and funky "Röyksopp's Night Out", a clear highlight and the album's strongest moment since the opener. Unfortunately, the latter section of the album, comprising "Remind Me", "She's so", and "40 Years Back\Come", marked a return to the preceding mellowness. "Melody A.M." began with genuine promise but, save for these sporadic exceptions, ultimately sank into a sea of placid soundscapes, narrowly achieving a three-star rating 1 "So Easy" (4/5) 2 "Eple" (3/5) 3 "Sparks" (3/5) 4 "In Space" (2/5) 5 "Poor Leno" (3/5) 6 "A Higher Place" (3/5) 7 "Röyksopp's Night Out" (4/5) 8 "Remind Me" (2/5) 9 "She's So" (2/5) 10 "40 Years Back\Come" (2/5) Total - 28 Average - 2.8 175/1001 96/175 albums reviewed were new to me.
3.5/5
Was fine to get thru a workday full of staring at a computer screen. 3/5
I remember Eple going to number one, or at least I think it was number one. It’s a memory bound up with Beaumont Rise, specifically the side access passageway. In my mind’s eye I’m hearing the song play from a radio in the kitchen, which is odd because I don’t think there was a radio in there. I don’t remember the radio playing much at all in that house, actually. The house before? It was never off. The top 40 was a appointment stuff and entirely formative – “The Drugs Don’t Work” pulling me into a novel melancholy; “House in the country” bouncing my bath-warmed body around like a ball bearing in a washing machine; the three lions ‘98 edition propelling me into such a richly realised back garden fantasy that the joy of scoring the winning goal feels like a real memory. But yeah, which radio, not sure. And really, it’s likely just the sheer ubiquity of Royskopp in the early 00s that I’m really recalling. It isn’t an album I’ve ever sat and listened to, and yet it takes until song six of Melody AM for me to hear a song I’m not already somehow familiar with. And even then – I’ve listened to enough Caribou, Bibio, Bonobo, Golden Panda, Mount Kimbie, Ratatat etc. in the past 15 years to make me feel like I had in fact heard “A higher place” (a bit of a highlight, funnily enough). Now it shouldn’t necessarily be a revelation to me that one of the most popular records of the 00s might have influenced electronic artists a mere 5–10 years later, but here we are. Melody AM is about as influential as it is chill, which is … extraordinarily. All that to one side, though, it’s a record that sounds just as accomplished, confident and comfortable in itself as it ever did. Eple – and Melody AM generally – is fresh and unmistakably Royksopp, whether it’s coming out my kitchen radio in Western Australia today, or one in North Notts 25 years ago.
*Unique entry in a genre I do not like.
am i chilled out or am i a little bit bored
Eletronic nice to listen to...
This was decent. I'm not an overwhelming fan of electronic music, but there was something here that was better than other e.m. albums I've listened to. It was more diverse, less repetitive, more melodic even. A solid effort.
Good techo
It's warm and peaceful but at the same time not a single song stuck with me. I normally don't agree with the critics but Pitchfork says it perfectly: "Röyksopp are, ultimately, too beautiful to hate and too harmless to really love." 8/10.
This one is kinda cool, good flow in most of it Will I listen to again: 55%
I struggled to listen to this whole album, not because it's bad, but because it kept making me fall asleep. It was really good sleep too, I'll be using this again in the future for guaranteed slumber. It's all very dreamy and floaty. I was surprised at how much of it I recognised. Highly recommended for insomniacs.
good yummy brain grooves. for when your brain needs a soft interruption. Will visit again. 3/5
Music to strip mine at Y=13 to.
These really did ride/pioneer that early 00s chilled electro type sound. It’s canny, but after the nostalgia wore off it got quite boring for me. The interesting bits are good, but there’s also a lot of filler
I went through a phase of really liking "what else is there" by royksopp, but wasn't sure how much more I actually knew.... Turns out quite a few! Eple and poor leno were the highlights. It's decent enough, but can't really see myself wanting to listen again 3.5
This was perfectly pleasant mellow electronic music. Great for writing or coding, but nothing that really stood out to me as something I would specifically put on like some other artists I listen to like Nightmares on Wax or Air.
1001 Albums Vol. 0001: Melody A.M. ============================================================ Introduction: This is my first album on this site. I will be reviewing every album and song given to me in this description section on a 1-10 scale. There are some very rare exception in which I will give a song or album an 11 out of 10, but I expect those situation to be extremely rare. I estimate only around 10-20 albums receiving a score that high by the end of this entire journey. Alongside all of this, I hope that my writing ability increases as I go along this journey. I hope for an better, funnier, tone/personality in my writing by the end of this journey. This album was released in 2001 by Norwegian duo Röyksopp. From my research, I've deduced that this album's creativity and continued relevancy comes from the genre-blending it achieved. It manages to blend a downtempo beat with the tight instrumentation of electronic to create something unique at the time. This album apparently helped electronic music reach a wider audience as well. This is a duo that I personally have never heard of before up until this point. Despite this, I have high hopes for this album. This hope may originate from the fact that this is my first album on this site, but I still have high hopes nonetheless. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 1: So Easy - This was an extremely nice song to start off with. Firstly, it is an extremely well-produced track, especially for the time. Many of the instruments here sound so tight and precise. That being said, this preciseness is a common trait I see across most electronic songs I have heard. Don't let that fact downplay this song, however. The sublimation of instrumentation and vocals create a very strange, otherworldly feeling that emanates throughout this song. This sublimation creates a song that feels very laid-back, relaxed, yet oddly dramatic at the same time. I am especially a fan of the rising vocals in the "blue on blue" sections. There isn't much variety in terms of lyrics, but that works for this song since it doesn't seem as if lyrics were meant to be the main focus of the song. This song emanates with creativity. It sets itself apart from most other electronic songs I have listened too very well. Overall, this is an extremely well-made, unique song that deserves the critical praise it receives. So Easy Score: 8/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 2: Eple - This track manages to be much better than the first. It has the same extremely high quality production as the previous, yet the instrumentation and melody is much more creative and profound in this song. This song manages to blend a strange mix between electronic and psychedelia through its unique instrumentation. The high-pitched piano-like sound that plays throughout the entirety of this song is what brings this psychedelic feeling the most. The amount of small details happening in the background of this tightly executed jam makes this song even better. The strange high and low pitching of the melody during the bridge created a strange sense that the melody was traveling up and down through my headphone's channels. Overall, through a very nice blending of genres, a very creative melody that manages to be extremely memorable, and the overall unique mood that emanates from this song, this song manages to achieve a ten rating from me. Eple Score: 10/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 3: Sparks - In my opinion, this song isn't as strong as the two previous. It has the same production value as the previous two, yet there isn't anything that makes this song sound too distinct from the many other electronic beats that I have heard over the years. To me, it sounds like something I would encounter in a relaxed, laid-back game. The melody presented is pretty repetitive and simplistic, this factor being exaggerated over the more than five minute runtime of the song. That being said, this is the first song on the album that contains genuinely complex lyrics that are meant to resonate with the listener. From what I have gathered, this song is meant to convey the feeling of spiraling into grief over a breakup or loss of someone significant. This lyrical meaning blends well with the more monotone melody of the song. This doesn't excuse the music itself from sounding much more generic in terms of electronic, however. On top of the music itself being much more generic, the lyrical meaning too is very generic. The theme of depression after a breakup/death is something that I feel has been explored time and time again in countless songs. Overall, while this song may not be as experimental or as musically complex as the previous two, it still manages to be an influential piece of electronic music. I can hear this effect clearly even on a first listen. Sparks Score: 7/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 4: In Space - This song is an instrumental much like Eple. It isn't as strong as Eple, however. Where Eple had a very psychedelic tone to it, this song has a much more pleasant tone. The production here is a bit off too. The drums don't feel as precise and tight as the way they did in the previous three songs. That being said, this works towards the songs favor. This lack of precision in the instrumentation helps this song create the more pleasant atmosphere it was clearly attempting to create. It's melody almost feels like something you would hear in Minecraft or a game of the like. It's a very nice, well-made instrumental. That being said, it isn't without flaws. Firstly, the melody doesn't feel as personally impactful as any instrumental's should. It does flow with creativity, but not as much so as the previous songs. The song itself isn't all that memorable either. It feels like a simple jam included for the sake of filler. That being said, this song doesn't overstay its welcome like the previous did, its runtime being only three and a half minutes long. Overall, while this song is still good, it misses the magic that made the two opening tracks so great. In Space Score: 7/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 5: Poor Leno - This is the first song on the album that I would describe as being extremely high energy. This is another song that I would describe as leaning toward a much more typical electronic song. That being said, that fact doesn't make the song bad at all. In fact, I would even say that this song is better than the previous two. The song has a very high and loud energy to it that emanates with the lyrical meaning. The vocals to these lyrics themselves are amazing. The masculine soft, perfect, echoing, masculine voice that delivers these lyrics sound so comforting and are perfect in context to the song. Now, I have heard various interpretations of these lyrics. Some of these theories claim pedophilia, some claim that the song is a game of hide and seek between a father; that being said, the interpretation I like to take is that we are listening to a father lecture his nine-year-old son about love, about the fact that he will always be by his side. He will always find him, he will always know him. In my opinion, his lyrical interpretation makes the most sense in context of the melody of the song. One could argue that the wacky melody could indicate a game of hide and seek, yet I believe that it is meant to indicate the magical happiness felt by unconditional love, especially so since this song is from the perspective of a nine-year-old. Overall, my own interpretation of this song allows me to give it an eight of ten. That being said, if the hide and seek meaning is ever confirmed, that score may drop down to a seven or high six. Poor Leno Score: 8/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 6: A Higher Place - This song brings back that strange blend of psychedelia Eple had. It isn't as masterfully executed on this song, however. This song is yet another instrumental...almost. There are a few words spoken during this song's duration, yet I don't consider them significant enough to speak any further on. There is quite a pleasant and progressive tone present in this song, a lot of small elements weaving their way in and out as well. Most of these elements make sense with the melody of the song. There are major, repeating elements that weave their way in as well. That being said, because of how many little things happen in this song, it would take a few listens to recognize these major elements first being weaved into the melody. I consider this to a good thing. There's not really much else to say about this song. It's just a pretty well-made instrumental. If anything, my main critique would be the random moaning sound that the duo decides to sample throughout the song. Other than that unpleasant bit, I have nothing major to criticize about this song. A Higher Place Score: 8/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 7: Röyksopp's Night Out - This song felt a bit too ambitious for its own good. It's yet another instrumental that manages to blend sounds of jazz and funk with electronic. That being said, it does so over the course of eight minutes. Like I said, this track feels a bit too ambitious for its own good. That being said, it's not bad at all, yet the melodies being noticeably weaker than previous songs along with its excessive length drag this song down. In my opinion, it is the weakest song on the album so far. There is some great bass work towards the middle of the song, but that's around the extent that I found myself to be really, really enjoying. This song attempts to feel dramatic in a somewhat weird way. Most of the sectioned melodies that we heard in the first seven minutes of the song: screechy horns, weird horns, and bass all come back in the last minute alongside aggressive crescendos to attempt to make a dramatic finish. That being said, this section just comes off as weird. The song didn't really have any impact on me either. Overall, there isn't much to say about this song that I haven't already. It's still good, but the weakest so far. Röyksopp's Night Out Score: 7/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 8: Remind Me - This is another song that contains a lyrical meaning. It appears to be sung by the same singer as in Poor Leno. The music compliments the nostalgic tone of the lyrics well. The melody is slow, repetitive, and single-noted in certain aspects in a way the reflects the depressing, longing lyrics well. This is the first song in a bit that doesn't try any form on genre-blending. It solely uses aspects of electronic music to make its melody. This song's lyrical meaning seems to depict a man coming home after a long time away; however, after his arrival home, he finds that most of his life has left him behind. The people in his life have left him behind. He no longer feels important or loved by those around him. This song's lyrics seem to have a connection with the natural human need to feel connected to those around us, the natural need to feel like we belong. As stated before, the melody reflects this depressive tone in a successful way. Overall, this is a nice song that managed to have somewhat of an impact on me. Remind Me Score: 8/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 9: She's So - This is yet another song that felt too overbearing for its own good. It's another instrumental as well. The ideas presented on this song feel so loose and as if they weren't explored enough to make something cohesive and logical. It felt as if many different ideas came to the duo and they decided to act on these ideas. This song doesn't really have anything special that we haven't heard before either. If this had been placed earlier in the album, it may have gotten a slightly higher score from me, but I feel inclined to give this uncreative and unmemorable (Albeit still good) piece the lowest score seen yet. She's So Score: 6/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track 10: 40 Years Back \ Come - Well, it's unfortunate that the duo had to pack the weakest two songs at the end of the album. This song is yet another instrumental, and one that I genuinely consider to be bad at that. The melody in the first half of the song feels so random and unmemorable while the one in the second half feels to unoriginal that literally anyone with a guitar and good enough production could replicate it. There really isn't much to say about this song besides what I've stated above. 40 Years Back \ Come Score: 5/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Conclusion: For being my first album, I think it was a pretty good one. Up until this point, most electronic songs I've heard have consisted of simplistic melodies with even simpler lyrics. This album felt complex in almost every song. Even the weakest songs still felt as if they were attempting to flow with creativity, the want to experiment. The constant experimental blending of genres on this album helped propel its creativity and ability to resonate with me to a certain height that just electronic alone wouldn't have done. It's genre-blending felt well-executed in most parts of the album. Lyrically, the album is obviously lacking. Most of the tracks here are instrumentals with a few exceptions here and there; however, this isn't really that big of a drawback in regard to this album. The extremely well-produced and experimental sound alone is enough to have a pretty substantial impact on the listener. When a song does contain lyrics, while the lyrics are typically repeated a lot, they often speak of themes that have a deep meaning to them. They typically dive deep into human emotions such as sadness and love. These songs that contain lyrics are typically complimented well by the melodies too, only propelling the lyrical delivery into even higher regard. The lyrics presented in these songs are just vague enough to be up to multiple interpretations as well. You are allowed to make you ideal version of a song in this album. On a side note, I find the singer's voices on the album to be incredible, especially on Poor Leno. On top of all of this, the production of this album is absolutely incredible as well. Overall, I personally find this album to be an extremely pleasant start to this long journey. The amount of songs that I found myself genuinely enjoying for both casual and artistic purposes is far greater than I estimated. I went into this thinking that I was probably going to initially get a streak of terrible albums followed by one good before jumping back into trash. That did not happen here. I was introduced to an artist that seemed to have genuinely wanted to experiment with genres in an artistic and enjoyable way. I definitely do not think that this will be the best album I listen to on this journey by a long shot, but I do still find this work to be incredibly pleasant. There are a few tracks on here that I could see myself revisiting time to time as well. Great start to this long journey, hopefully I see more stuff like this on my way. ============================================================ Melody A.M. Score: 7/10 Song Average: 7.4/10
Mellow electronic music, an enjoyable record to use as background music.
Some fun ones and some boring ones.
Pleasant background grooves
An exquisite audio screensaver.
Works wonders after a stressful day.
I liked some of the melodies here. Not overly pretentious, but still innovative in some ways.
This too was a unique listening experience. A completely new one, but a pleasant one.
Interesting but some tracks made me sleepy.
Angenehm, aber nichts, das meine Aufmerksamkeit allein auf sich zieht. In Ordnung.
It's alright got more into it by the end
Still learning to love house and EDM, so this lack of familiarity may have caused me to miss something, but nothing here really wowed me as anything new or unique. That said, I enjoyed the album. A good, but not great record.
Is it a problem that I kept forgetting that I was actively listening to this album. I don't want to listen to this again but, if I did, I probably wouldn't realize it anyway. If that's what they were going for, then I give it 5 stars.
I was today years old when I realized Royskopp and The Knife are not the same thing. I can dig some Royskopp.
This didn't suck as bad as most of the Dance/Electronic offerings from "1001 Albums..." Decent background music for working/multi-tasking. I might actually revisit this one from time to time. 3 stars.

Favorite Track: Remind Me
I cannot believe this boring shit is on the list. It’s just naughties furniture shop music. It made me want to buy a sofa.
Not bad!
Not my favorite type of music but it wasn't bad or annoying.
It was good background music while I worked. I could see this being music for a travel vlog.
Interesting, but not something I would choose to listen to.
Sounds a bit too much like N64 James Bond video game soundtrack music.
Early 00s advert music. Make of that what you will.
This album has a smooth, atmospheric quality that makes it an easy listen, but it can also feel a little too comfortable for its own good. The duo’s blend of downtempo beats and soft electronic textures creates a warm, almost weightless mood. It’s the kind of record that slips in quietly and sets a tone, more background than centre stage. Tracks like “Eple” and “Poor Leno” stand out with their bright melodies and crisp production, giving the album its most memorable moments. The rest often drifts by pleasantly without leaving a strong impression, more about vibe than punch. It’s consistent, but that consistency sometimes comes at the cost of variety. Melody A.M. works best as a mellow, late-night listen. It’s beautifully produced and easy to get lost in, but it never really pushes beyond that comfortable space. A solid, enjoyable listen, just not one that hits especially hard.
Royksopp put together a very palatable, smooth electronica album. I don't think we have anything particularly special here but listening to these chill melodies in the wee hours of the A.M. was nice. Made the drive to work a relaxing one. Smoke Mushroom gets 2.55 stars for this debut.
Interestingly enough I was familiar with Royksopp through a Geico caveman commercial and a friend in college quite a while back. I enjoyed what I had heard, but hadn't delved into their albums. Glad I was given an excuse as Melody A.M. was a very pleasant listen. I really vibed with the chill electronic beats and soft vocals. The album was just the right level of engaging and cerebral without asking too much from the listener. The last two songs slowed it down too much and were a little empty, but I really enjoyed 80% of this album. Melody A.M. was mostly delightful and I'd be interested in listening to more by Royksopp. 3.44 stars
One time, in the days before smartphones, Youtube, and shazam, a song showed up on a Geico caveman commercial during an Eagles game. My annoying uncle heard it and loved it and made me look it up based on a small snippet of misheard lyrics. It was this song, and I will never forgive them for that. 3/5
lovely soundscape.
Chillax
Uma mistura de muitas batidas que criam cenários imagéticos na cabeça.
A consistent pleasure: kinetic energy with sweeping vistas and melodic turns of techno
I didn’t get it at first. I thought it was mid techno but too mellow to dance to. But it grew on me. Midway through the album on “Poor Leno” I think I caught the Röyksopp vibe. The mellowness seeped into me and I grooved. “A Higher Place” was a cool track, great outro. “Röyksopp’s Night Out” put me in a trance with a funky flange guitar. Who knew Norwegians could be weird too? I’m glad to have listened to this album.
Started out strong, some of the songs I didn't care for the vocals. Royksopp's Night Out was probably my favorite.
kinda werid pre easy listening though good midday vibe
Not something I'd usually listen to but not bad. Had some "oh, I know this" moments, which is always cool.
Electronic dance/pop music. I enjoyed the album overall. Favorite songs were Sparks, In Space, Remind Me.
Reasonably pleasant and occasionally interesting electronic music. Didn’t hold my interest for very long though. A bit too placid. Reminded me of shopping at dsw.
Enjoyed it, probably not listen to again
Good vocals nice vibe very produced tho
there's better trip hop out there
