The best kind of electronic music

Dust Funk Oasis where they serve cold mojitis every sunday along with a view of the the pearlescent Crystal lake. Sitting down you see awoman in swirly red eyeliner reads a french comicbook next to her is man in orange overalls slipping pineapple-shaped fish food into a seahorse aquarium. Youre expected back at 5 so you have no reason not to stay for a drink or two. Velvety butterflies drift on a wind of lavender and humidity, man-eating pitcher plants hang above your head suspended by hundreds upon hundreds of vines, out the eye-shaped window the glass city sparkles like diamonds in a sandbox.

Very enjoyable but not quite there

One of those albums where I don’t recall having ever listened to it and yet I know every track. So either I did put it on at some point, or I just absorbed it all through cultural osmosis at the time. Either through hip and happening mixtapes or because you used to get a lot of this lo-fi ambient beats stuff then in the background to Changing Rooms or whatever. Anyway, I never really embraced Royksopp at the time, despite being into that sort of thing. It was a bit TOO chill, if that makes sense. But I like it! Pretty good! Yeah!

Unique staple, rarely listened but a collection wouldn't be complete without

This is a wonderful album! So mellow! I first heard “Remind Me” when it was used in the famous Geico Caveman commercials back in the early oughts and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. Link to the commercial: https://youtu.be/9Ao8f4cQ-T8?si=p84uVPBcYIdtWTK3

not their best, they made great things

Nice vibras

Nice one, didn’t know it before, classic trip Hop/downtempo. All I know from Röyksopp is mich Note pop and „modern“

love this stuff

Very soothing, relaxed album feel. Classified as dance, I get it. But, it’s very ambient and more jazzy with the beats and vocals. Very upbeat coffee house vibes for most of the album. Definitely, up there for listening pleasure on my end. Favourite song would have to be “Röyskopp’s night out” a nice dark underground disco-ish vibe. I would also say it has a little Bond vibe as well. Liked the album, mixed all the way through. Definitely on the playlist now.

I enjoyed this a lot especially the middle of the album, it really hit around there. Good background music

Part of this album feels very in line of early 2000s techno (Eple, Poor Leno), but part of this feels like it predicts the trend of lo-fi music made almost two decades later (Sparks, 40 Years Back . It's an interesting album and I quite enjoyed it.

really enjoyed this one, the vocals are well placed and it’s a nice downtempo electronic record. lowkey similar to BoC. i listened to this while doing some homework and it really got me focusing so that’s great

Track 2 was absolute fire. Have I heard some of these in commercials before? Note to self: better review next time

Cool electric sounds

Strong start to the album, actual so peak but the later half though not terrible by any means and also very enjoyable just don’t end as strong as it begins. Overall amazing album and didn’t expect to like it as much as I did.

I wrote so much code to this back in the day.

cool atmosphere and synths, i liked it

Good while working

Better than 77. So close to being 3 stars.

This is ... good? So far, I haven't liked electronic much. This is different. It's got melody and rhythm. In other words, it's music, not electronic noise. Upbeat enough to not put you to sleep, laid back enough to work to without demanding attention.

I liked it very much

Yes, it sounds like the reception area of a (would-be) trendy city hotel, but it sounds good. Relaxing.

Lo-fi electronic beats to game/hack/write papers to.

Before listening I would say I'd heard of the band but couldn't name one of their tunes. While listening there were 2 or 3 tracks that I recognised and could say I'd heard before. The majority of the album was very good. It would be a great album to have on in the background when having a few drinks on a sun terrace somewhere.

First impression pre listen: Music from my own country, how exciting! Being Norwegian I'm of course familiar with Röyksopp even if they're still kinda seen as a bit alternative even here. I've even seen them live. This album is a bit of a classic, though I'll admit that I've maybe heard it all the way through only once or twice. I'm pleasantly surprised they're on this list. Excited to get into it. There is however a risk that this will bring me to sleep. Individual track notes: So Easy Pleasing to the ear. Atmospheric with some good ambience. Really like the dreamy, cloudy feel in the background. The crunchy bass being front and center drives the track forward make it stay away from feeling aimless. Good. 4/5 Eple Love the almost hip hop sounding beat. The main synth sound is really clean. Simple and sweet with some interesting wavy effects to keep it fresh. Good. 4/5 Sparks It's got a calming slow vibe that works well in the background, but does nothing for me when actively trying to listen to it. Pleasant and inoffensive. I like the texture added by the background synths. Fine. 3/5 In Space Light and cheery with a fresh and airy atmosphere. Soothong and sweet. Decent. 3.5/5 Poor Leno Dancy and fun. Love the tonal shift from the previous tracks. Structured and purposeful. Decent. 3.5/5 A Higher Place Ambient. I like how they keep adding new elements as it goes along. Sounds vast and floaty. Love the switchup to a more dramatic sound. Great. 4.5/5 Röyksopp's Night Out Quirky and odd. Quite intense, especially with that almost alarm like synth. I like the switchup into a more rounded and smooth sound. It's a bit of an adventure, showing off different musical locations. The haunting synths building up to the song's hectic climax are quite striking. Great. 4.5/5 Remind Me The vocals are kinda boring honestly. I don't feel like they add much. The plucky beep boop synths are pretty pleasant though, but this is another one which works best in the background. Fine. 3/5 She's So I like the variety provided by the sax. Really ambient and slow. Has a disarming, calm quality to it which makes it feel meditative and kinda hypnotic. Love the ending segment with the strange compression. Adds an additional layer of dynamism to the track. Decent. 3.5/5 40 Years Back/Come Honestly quite abrasive. Has some horror-movie soundtrack like atmosphere to it. It's a cool enough idea, but not exactly pleasant. Continues into a very harmonic ambient section, which really brings back some of the meditative qualities of previous tracks. I really like the reverb. Decent. 3.5/5 Final Review: A cute little excursion into a vast atmospheric electronic sound, which priorities ambience and space instead of blistering dance beats and catchy hooks. It's music to enjoy in those quiet lonely moments where everything seems to slow down a bit. There's a certain level of patience required to truly immerse oneself into the warm and cozy soundscapes provided by this album. It's a great space filler for background listening, but also has some meditative and soothing qualities which makes it stand on its own. For whatever purpose you'd have for putting it on, you'll always find something that sticks out. The main attraction most likely being the fun beep boop synths that sort of signify the album's sound. In conclusion it doesn't exactly blow your socks off, but it does ground you, calm you down and set you up for a new adventure. 3.5/5 rounded up to a 4/5

Not as good as a whole as I remembered but still good.

This album came out the day before my 8th birthday, and the world as we knew it had hardly a week left. Great stuff.

I liked this. Not dance music as some advertised it, but good chill-out music. Some cool bass lines. Don't love the ones with singing throughout, but they're not annoying. Just sort of take me out of the vibe. So Easy is good and my favorite was Röyksopp's Night Out. (Even though it is a tad bit jarring at the intro) I can imagine listening to this while working on something tedious to get me through OR just relaxing with some vibe-y music.

Some great songs, not quite electronic but with a heavy foundation

Loved it! I'm going to keep an eye out for this vinyl. It feels like a perfect album for background record player music.

Another album and artist I’d never heard of. Really liked the first few songs especially. As the album progressed, thought it became a little weaker. Would be great background / studying music. Reminds a bit of Ratatat (but more mellow) or RJD2 etc.

Hipster music for couples home dinners where they sit and brag about their latest hipster holidays. But this album is much better than I want to admit. By the way, did I tell you about my last holiday?

A stunning album that I'd not listened to in an eon. Holds up.

Lots of different vibes — dance music, Blade Runner, Boards of Canada, Air — all of which they do well. A perfect album to listen to while working.

Lovely downtempo jams.

A chill but groovy ate 90's electronic album.

This is just really good chill beeps and boops, this album has always slapped, idk what to tell you

I was introduced to Röyksopp in highschool. I listened to a fair amount of trance and french house before, but this was different. First few tracks are mostly ambient adjacent, but Poor Leno takes that laid back vibe and adds a thumping bass line. Danceable but reserved. The percussion and reverb on this track is hypnotizing. Poor Leno is my favorite track on the album, if every song was as mesmerizing as that one track, this would be a 5/5 album.

Highly pleasant listening. Just about earns a 4

3.9 - Enjoyed, again a bit of a surprise

Really cool electrónica. Catchy beats and they don't overdo the synth like a lot of electronic bands do.

Fantastinen moderni klassikko. Ihana soundimaailma 4/5

Very good for what it was.

After the first 5 seconds, I thought I was in for another 1 star album. Thankfully, it improved very quickly. I was surprised to have recognized Remind Me, probably from a commercial or something. Poor Leno might be one of my favorite songs I've discovered from this list so far.

Another new one to me. I liked it. Good background music to work to. A bit chill. A bit funky. I could see putting this on for a long run or a daytime solo road trip.

One of my littlest brother’s favorite albums. I really want to give this one a 3.5. Groovy, easy listening, almost lofi.

its a chillish electronic album. went in with no idea what this was. very surprised at this album, solid from start to end with some good ones in there.

Really chill electronica, great moods.

This had a great groove to it and was a nice listen. Rating: 4

This was a pleasant surprise for me. I often am not a huge fan of this style of music, but I found this chill and a good album to listen to while starting my day.

Nearly a 5

Generally a fan of downtempo and chill, psytrance, and other related genres as well and this is no exception. Would love a half star to go with 3.5 - giving them the benefit of the doubt and calling it a 4-star release.

This was such a party, and I was very surprised by it

Good soup

Nostalgic!

Det är lattjo och bitvis rikgit bra "elektronisk" musik. På gränsen till bakgrundsmusik ibland. Men överlag grymt.

Mycket bra och fin skiva helt i min smak. Välproducerad och härlig trip hop vibe som är svår att inte gilla.

This is good stuff! Good music to concentrate by or program to

Fantastic electronic album. The 96-04 era of this style of music when computers were first starting to be used was really unique and I miss it. The early releases of Fat boy slim, daft punk, boards of Canada and this. They just have a certain vibe and I’ll definitely be revisiting this one. Fairly random they were playing in Toronto the day that this album was generated.

найс, сохранил.

Great background album. Listened to a bunch of their stuff over the years and kinda cool to see where they started out. Would throw this on again if I was in the mood.

Nice and spacey.

Good music to chill out to....or navigate spreadsheets to. I guess 'downtempo' is a musical genre I like and need to explore more.

I enjoyed it.

I have this one. I bought if for Eple and Poor Leno, but most of the songs are very nice. Sparks is another highlight.

Cool d’album instrumental, mais plus il avance, moins je suis dedans. À revoir plus tard

This was a good album

Nú veit ég ekki hvað svona tónlistarstefna kallast innan raftónlistarheimsins en mér finnst þetta mjög skemmtileg tónlist að hlusta á í réttu andrúmslofti og ég set meira að segja ákkúrat þessa plötu á undir þeim kringumstæðum.

I’d never heard of this but ended up enjoying the chill ambient sound.

Nice surprise - not really in my genre but a very pleasant listen. Will listen again when I need something with some energy in the background.

Beautiful bleeps and bloops here.

House/trance, but more laid-back with indie elements. Pretty good! Best track - Poor Leno or So Easy or Eple

Quite wonderful! 3.9

Very enjoyable electronica. "Royksopp's Night Out" is what elevates this from a three star to four star album. That song told a whole story all by itself, with no words. "In Space" is an upbeat highlight, and "She's So" is a more slowed down beat that I enjoyed. This is in high three star, low four star territory, but I'm feeling generous today.

Everyone in my peer group was into this album in 2002, it was everywhere for a while. I've definitely overheard it as not listened to it for years. It was interesting to go back to it now. I can still see it's appeal, it's very accessible, and doesn't have to rely on adding vocals to tracks to do so, although there are a couple of good performances by Erlend Oye. Royksopp never reached these heights again. It tails off a bit in the last couple of tracks (especially the last one which wasn't on the vinyl version and so is sort of a bonus track really, and sounds like it).

Tempus Fugit. Sometimes in a good way.

Really good electronic music. This is the sort of hidden gem that makes so much else on this list worth struggling through.

Fun techno

Low key techno

I enjoyed this. Dare I say: “boogie-inducing”? I did! I said it.

Brety goood

Some very good tunes.

Great vibes, and it's their first album? Nice. A few misses for me, but every song takes such a fun journey that by the end of a song it's usually... a different song

It's been a while since I spun this record, and I forgot how much I enjoy it! 3.5 so it gets rounder up!

I found this very enjoyable.

Very chill music.

Quite enjoyable. A good electronic record. I might come back to listen to it sometimes

I enjoyed the mellower beginning to the album, but the more uptempo it got, the less I enjoyed it. Still just about a 4 star for me.

Good electronic music

I was torn between a 3 and 4. I am going with 4 because I actually really liked some parts of this and could easily see this becoming a background, zone out, album. Reminds me a little bit of Entroducing by DJ Shadow which I enjoy as well.

Classic!! takes me back to 2ManyDJs mix of 9 to 5 with Eple

Background electronic music (mostly). The mood vibey tracks where you could turn your brain off where the best. Stand-out: In Space

4/5 DC drive

I have Eple on a work playlist, and every time it comes on, it's a standout, and it's on there with Tycho, Bonobo, Aphex Twin, a bunch of other great electronic music. So I was psyched to see this on the list! The album is joy. Röyskopp has a way with melody ("Eple", "Poor Leno," "Remind Me") and they create out of the ordinary sounds that remain organic ("Sparks," "A Higher Place"). "Röyskopp's Night Out" is outstanding, artistic and epic with a light touch. Great song. Typically I don't love featured singers on top of this kind of Electronica, but they make it work. The vocals are tuneful with out overwhelming the proceedings. Like French chillsters (huh? huh? OH COME ON!) Air, Röyskopp has a mood, like, grasping here for the terms, Brazilian Bossa Nova jazz - without being that. Sweet, dance-centric, positive, sunny, easy to listen to.

I liked the dreamy quality of this album. Not a go to but it was pleasant to listen to!

Did enjoy!!

Melody A.M. doesn't scratch that itch deep in the nerdiest part of my brain like Röyksopp's contemporaries on Warp Records but it does show off the bands cooler influences.

I had completely forgotten that "Eple" appears on this album. Very dreamy and catchy debut from the cold North. I would listen to this again before most of the other electronic albums on this list.

Pretty good. It's been forever since I was last recommended an album that wasn't from the UK or the United States, so I'm grateful to finally be given another. A lot of this music feels vaguely familiar, especially Eple. This band is surprisingly quite popular, so I must have heard them at some point or another. "Sparks" is very reminiscent of the Lo-Fi hip hop genre with it's sampling and subdued, muffled sound, which is one of the few hop-adjacent genres that I enjoy. "She's So" is my favourite song on the album, blending a spacy, atmospheric sound with a fantastic, ethereal sax. I've noticed that I've become quite favourable to "cosmic" music of late, and I think that this album captures that aesthetic very well. It's relaxed while also maintaining a deliberate, considered approach to the songwriting I'm conflicted on busting out a 3 or a 4 for this album. It doesn't carry an impactful, genre-defining kick to the music industry and I'm partial to this music without being crazy over it. It is, however, very watertight. There aren't many loose ends on here and I'm interested in listening to more Röyksopp as a consequence of hearing this album. In my heart of hearts I think I already know the answer, though I'm gonna bust out the coin of indecision to do the heavy lifting. Heads is me giving this a 4 Heads. In to the favourites list you go, lil buddy. I am downloading more Röyksopp as I am writing these words. I am officially a member of the ksopperhead army ksopperhead nation.

Noen fantastiske låter og mye nostalgi. Som album er det litt hummer og kanari men det treffer meg som regel godt.

1. She's so 2. So easy/a higher place 3. Eple/remind me

To be honest this would not be a good to listen, but then I guess that this is what the app is all about. Quite chilled vibes for most of it and enjoyed having it as background to reading. Glad I discovered it through the app as it wouldn't have appeared on my radar at all.

Fun album

It was pretty good. A few good ones I'd forgotten. Can't say it's an album I'll go back to though

Röyksopp - Melody A.M. Really cool album to listen. Has a combination of ambient but up-beat music to it, which makes it sounds really catchy to listen. For a band from Norway that I never heard before, this is great! 1.- So Easy = 8/10 2.- Eple = 8/10 3.- Sparks = 9/10 4.- In Space = 9/10 5.- Poor Leno = 7/10 6.- A Higher Place = 10/10 7.- Royksopp's Night Out = 9/10 8.- Remind Me = 7/10 9.- She's So = 8/10 10.- 40 Years Back / Come = 6/10 FINAL SCORE: 8.1/10

Great start, it tailed off a bit at the end but overall a nice listen

While I'm not giving this 5 stars, it might be the one I'm most interested in returning to. The ethereal sounds, sometimes bordering on the Daft Punk era of EDM, other times sounding like Angelo Badalamenti, and often tapping into the other Northern European sounds, it's a journey.

Look, I am not an electronica person. Not a hater, it just seems like something there's a lot to know about, and I never cared to learn. But I'm going to walk around all day listening to this on headphones.

Great electronic music. Poor Leno especially got its hooks into me.

Clean your house music, in a good way. Good beats, repeatative in the right ways not droning. Poor Leno reminds me of that cosmic russian yodeling video too much though. Not something I'd choose often but def worth another listen. Took me way too long to figure out where I always heard Remind Me from lol Geico commercials.

Chachi pistachi

good but not life-changing beep boop music. I wonder if my understanding of this music as whimsical comes from the fact that the sounds are so funny

Melody A.M. occupies a special place in time, when the late 90s turned into the early aughts and electronic music held a stronger promise than merely the unce-unce-unce of mindless techno sounds. Rock bands were experimenting with digital sounds, and DJs were becoming legit rock stars. What is remarkable is how an album seemingly created very much for its time has held up a quarter century (!!). In a former life I tried to sign Royksopp as a composer client so there is a bit of personal bias in my review.

Groovy and chill. This sort of electronic music is more my speed than 90's club bangers to do speed to

Elektronisk toppklasse

Very good electronic album, no misses, flows together very well too, chill atmosphere

Always a good listen. This one has definite Sunday Session vibes.

Repeat

Favorite Track: Remind Me

I was going to semi-ignore this one as another UK-centric album that maybe doesn't belong in a list like this. But I ended up really liking this album. It reminds me of Air and other chill/downtempo artists. I specifically liked 3 tracks: So Easy, Royksopp's Night Out, Remind me.

Very much an album that reminds me of a time and place. Ultimately background music, but excellent background music.

Norsku vinir okkar í Röyksopp klikka ekki. Mjög þægileg tónlist og gott að vinna við.

Fín vinnutónlist frá Bergen.

Nice work music

The kind of music that I completely forget is still playing. I think that's the point, right?

Great album....

This was mostly a quite enjoyable listen. Some really cool sounds (for the time) and lots of great, chill grooves. The only problem I had with this album is that sometimes I thought I was listening to the Weather Channel's "Weather on the 8s". My son rates it 5 stars. I can't go that high, but I'll give it 4 stars.

Really enjoyed it. Great background music.

Really fond of this. Doesn't seem like much, but the more you listen, the more it gives. Goes well with relaxing, running, dancing, thinking, working. Bloody lovely.

"ah, so that's where those tunes come from" the album

Very easy to listen to, smooth synth stylings.

Surprisingly good. Very mellow. Easy to get lost in.

My biggest problem with good albums on this list is the fact that I can't just be one-and-done with them, I have to listen to them three or four times before I'm satisfied. Had only heard Eple prior to this but it wasn't even close to the best song of the album

had heard "Eple" and "she's so" in the background before but never really listened to Röyksopp before. I really enjoyed the sound. If you like late 90s electronica and trip hop then you will probably enjoy this or allready be aware of it. an unexpected track i hadn't heard was poor leno which i really enjoyed. As for personal enjoyment this really was a great album. It is probably just background music for most people and might be a bit niche to be in the must listen category but i feel this is better than most I've gotten recently on this list.

Surprisingly pleasant to listen to. Definitely dinner party music.

More like this please!!!

This was lovely. Felt like Air/Moby/Gidge and a lot of trip hop vibes. 7.5 / 10 Best tracks: Poor Leno, A Higher Place, Royksopps (hey that's the name of the band) Night Out

Wonderful to rediscover this one.

I have a hard time putting a finger on exactly what the Röyksopp sound is, but it's definitively recognizable and distinct. Has some mellowness to it, while still having some dance oriented tracks. 'Eple' and 'Poor Leno' are the best tracks of the album in my opinion, but the other ones hold their ground well too. Overall really cool album that still sounds fresh.

I feel like there are a lot of trip-hop adjacent electronic albums from the ‘90s on this list that I’ve never heard of, that time has essentially forgotten. Not that I’m complaining – I love ‘90s electronica, and I love trip-hop, so I’ve loved a lot of these records – I just can’t help but feel that the importance of this sound, aesthetic, and era are being over-represented by Dimery and Co. Melody A.M. really fits the bill for what I’m talking about here. It is, in some ways, maybe the best non-essential downtempo/trip-hop album I’ve gotten yet. It’s sonically diverse, it’s detailed as hell, and it flows in a way that always keeps me engaged without losing the vibe. It’s just solid as fuck ‘90s electronica. But it’s still not essential. And that’s obvious as I listen to it. No matter how good it may be, it’s not nearly as good as Dummy or the Massive Attack albums, or even lesser Everything But the Girl records and early Gorillaz tunes. That doesn’t mean it’s not great. I really liked this record. But it’s more for people into this specific scene, looking to find Tier-2 classics, I’d say. I’ll personally return to this a lot, because I like trip-hop and I need some good Tier-2 classics. But I get if someone waved their hand at this album. On a worse day, I probably would, too.

Was really good, but I was high af listening to it so might not actually be as good as I remember

First listen. Pretty good.

really cool techno. this is the kind of stuff i like, hinting at experimental but always nice to listen to

Really good! Lived Roykopps Night Out. Feel like the last couple of songs were filler

Surprisingly nice

Fun album. Some great fuzzy tunes on this, and I think there's little else that I know of that captures the same vibes as this. I do wish it was a little bouncier though, there are some banging tunes on this but I do think the album slows down a little too soon. Best Track: So Easy Worst Track: A Higher Place

Best Song: So Easy Worst Song: A Higher Place

Very nice chill downtempo album. The first two songs were bangers, the middle lacked the bit, but the end was again superb. It's definitely an album I'll come back to.

A hidden gem

I have recently listened to some of Royksopp ‘s later albums and enjoyed them so when this appeared on my list to listen I was quite excited to listen to the debut to see how far they had come. I listened to this while on a walk first thing in the morning and it suited that activity perfectly. Really enjoyed it.

I have never heard this before and I think it's really good. The first couple of songs are very catchy so it brings you in before some more experimental type songs. This is something that I will be listening to again for sure, I'm sorry I didn't get to hear it when it came out.

Eple So easy Remind me

First 2 songs are awesome. The rest is not that good, but still good. Great background music. Favorite song: Eple.

very nice

House. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

A really good album of chill instrumentals, fun dance tracks, and peaceful atmosphere that is (mostly) a solid listen from front to back. A few tracks were a little less interesting than others, but for the most part, this is a great electronic album I'll definitely be coming back to

Catch a vibe i guess.

Love it

Solid work. Very chill ambient electronic music, and much is hard to find.

I was a little cold at the beginning, as I usually really enjoy this genre and it wasn't clicking. However, the second half of the album really picked up. 3.5/5

Delightful

Bloops and beeps that tickle your brain in the best way possible.

I'm pretty sure I'm 0% Norwegian, but this record has me feeling most koselig; it's like sipping something warm and fortified at the edge of a formidable fjord.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Röyksopp, probably because I listened to a lot of electronic music back in high-school. This album brings a wave of nostalgia, but even setting that aside, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable dance record that’s definitely worth your time.

Wow this is so good

If you had asked me if I'd recognize a song on a Norwegian Electronic duos album, I'd say no. Electronic music already is hard for me to recognize or distinguish, but I do like to have it on the background, and some of these tracks were just what I needed to chill out after a long day on my way home. "Remind Me" was the track I had heard and had to cheat and look it up and it was another GEICO commercial. I think that's happened before on this 1001 journey as well. Overall, I added a few tracks to a couple different playlists from this one, so that's a win in my book. Favorite track "Remind Me" 3.5/5

I’ve never heard of this album or artist before, but my wife, who is apparently cool than me, had heard of them. As I was listening to this last night, I told her my album of the day was “some Norwegian band called… Roik-sopp?” and she knew them from their collaborations with Robyn (it’s a crime that there are not Robyn albums on this list by the way). My cool wife’s knowledge aside, I tend to enjoy electronica music and Scandinavian music, so I had high hopes going into this album. Of the electronica albums I’ve reviewed so far, this has been one of my favorites. I really loved the variety of sounds that were present, and each song was interesting and entertaining. I definitely preferred the faster and more upbeat songs to the slower ones, but even songs like “Sparks” were still nice to listen to, due to the vocals. The arrangements were really beautiful, and I enjoyed the overall sound of the album. “So Easy” and “A Higher Place” were my favorite songs off the album. “So Easy” was a great leadoff track, and got me in a good head-bobbing mood to start off the album. “So Easy” featured a lot of interesting sound elements, and there was some sort of crackling effect that made me feel like I was eating Pop Rocks, which I absolutely loved. “So Easy” reminded me of some of the songs on Jamie XX’s solo album, which I really love. Also, it turned out that I was familiar with “Remind Me” from its use in a Geico caveman commercial (kudos to Geico for making a commercial that I can still remember almost two decades later), which was a nice little surprise. Overall, this was a really good album, and I enjoyed listening to it. The wide variety of sounds on this album create a wide range of moods and emotions, and the end result is really enjoyable.

4/5. Has an interesting bossa nova vibe full electronic, creating a groovy and relaxing background sound. I think there are some slow tempo songs that do not hit the mark, but anything where the beat and drums are at the forefront, that is where this album shines and thankfully that is most of it. Some nice vocals as well, different for each song too so it feels more like a collection of hits versus an album. Best Song: So Easy, Royksopp's Night Out, Remind Me

Melody A.M. - bevorzugt am Morgen zu hören :-) auf dem Weg zum Beck um sieben Ecken in Rom. Cooler Klangteppich auf dem es beschwingt vorwärts geht.

Perfect music to work to. I know that sounds like a diss, but there is something to be said for something you can loop to carry you through the day. While there's nothing bad on here, Eple and Poor Leno stand out as especially good.

Uhh am I starting to like electronica music? This is darn good

Very nice sound. I'm sure underrated.

It's wild to consider that if you played this for most people, they would recognize its best song as being the soundtrack to a Geico caveman commercial

At any given moment, the percussion from "Poor Leno" is just rattling around in my brain.

This is a peaceful and fun album that is too catchy and boppy for ambient bt can still slide nicely into the background. Aptly titled - it was perfect for morning coffee.

just pure vibes throughout, love it

an experimental journey

A pretty good chill electronic album.

Shad also listened to some of this

Like visiting an old friend. This album marked the beginning of me getting into modern electronica, specifically from Sweden & Norway. This is a good intro to the group. They get better & I very much enjoy their stuff with Robyn & Karin Dreijer of The Knife & Fever Ray.

It was a good listen. I enjoyed it. Made for good background music.

I truly enjoyed this - was new to me.

4+ The beggining is a 5, the end a 4.

Thanks to 1001albums I started to appreciate a bit this kind of electronica. It's no masterpiece but it's pleasant to listen to.

Kind of interesting lo-fi feeling album. Some of the sampling fits well. I kind of zoned out some while listening but in a good way. I'll give this another listen sometime.

Chill vibe. Nice break beats Nothing that will lock into my brain, but I cannot complain. A nice album, cohesive but not repetitive. Favorite part was the second half of A Higher Place

Never heard this band before. I enjoyed it!

Inventive, lush, weird. The only flaw for me was that 2-3 tracks were just a little too long.

4- eple, poor leno, ...

So happy to see a non-UK, and even non-American album on this list. Great music, pretty understated but nice and atmospheric. A good album to have on in the background, which is one of the ways I enjoy music best.

I'm a little scared that I'm going to hate this as much as I hated that Silver Jews album. I guess we'll see. Phew, it's not what I thought it was going to be. It's nice so far. I do prefer lyrics with my music but this isn't bad. It's more of a background music album, which is exactly what I needed today. I'm really liking this. 4/5 Super easy to listen to.

Ahti tar dig... ahti takes you... to tuonelans gate... hell minions... so easy

Perfect album to work to.

This album always reminds me of summer. It's fun and puts me in a better mood every time a listen to it.

definitely the second time i’ve heard this. i like the vibe. little long.

Great background music. Upbeat. I enjoyed it.

Nice album. Had it on while cleaning and it made good background music. I’ve heard and enjoyed some of their music before. 4

Very of its time, but this actually hasn't dated too badly. A more aggressive and dance-oriented take on the chill genre.

The opening to track one is almost iconic but I have neither heard the rest of the track nor knew who actually made it. Röyksopp you say? Never heard of them, but their music is instantly familiar. Track 2 is another with an underlying beeping track that is instantly recognisable but I couldn’t tell you all the different times I’ve heard it. Finishing up the album, I really enjoyed it. Good load of chill out tracks.

A really nice, chill album with some occasional bounce and life. Worth revisiting next time I take an edible, I think. Favorite tracks: "Sparks", "Royksopp's Night Out"

Fun chill listen.

Soort elektronisch album? FAVO: Eple, Sparks, Poor Leno, Remind me, She's so

This debut album of upbeat, ambient electronic began a long career for Royksopp. The tracks experiment with a variety of sounds, providing variety in music that could be critiqued as repetitive. This album was clearly influential - there is a great deal of ambient and soundtrack music that sounds like Royksopp. In that vein, the tracks are fun, catchy, and danceable, but none of them stand out as particularly great.

I've always meant to listen to this one but never prioritised it. It sounds like trip hop with a heavy lean towards ambient music. Perfect for a relaxing Norwegian holiday.

I liked it. Very ambient. First half is stronger while the second half does fade. Still a nice discovery as I've never heard them before.

Great downtempo chill music.

Genres: Downtempo, trip-hop, chill out, house, ambient. A lot of nice sounds and great variety of styles. Standouts: Remind Me, So Easy, Eple, Sparks, Poor Leno, Others: A Higher Place, She's So

I remember hearing "remind me" in a GEICO commercial in the early 2000s. It was so catchy and I thought I'd never figure out what song it was. Great album, love the jazz and downtempo house vibe. Will actually listen to this again for sure.

Pleasant surprise

I don’t think I’ve heard of Röyksopp before. It feels like a name I would remember because it looks Icelandic (turns out they’re Norwegian - close but not close enough). Wikipedia says their genre is downtempo, and I’m not sure exactly what that means other than slow. Songs I already knew: So Easy, Eple Favourites: So Easy, Eple It turns out I was wrong in saying I didn’t know this artist, as I was at least familiar with a few tracks. This is exactly the kind of music that I love to listen to when studying uni work. I don’t know if it boosts my production, but it certainly makes things more fun. There are minimal lyrics here, with chilled out electronic music playing, and I find it all very comforting. This will definitely be an album I’ll be returning to.

One of the rare beast of albums that I have actually bought. ‘Eple’ was the hook, but every track stands on its own. It gets thrown in with that mad time when Chill Out was an everywhere, but there’s too much bass, and too many good beats for it to be tarred with that brush. It’s held up really well over the past 22(!) years. I still like it. It’s full of charm, warm hygge and Nordic cinematic sweeps.

This is your morning downtempo, giving you the most soothing beats for your early rise.

different but good a bit backgroundy. blue on blue stands out but will listen again to the whole thing

Moody, scandi, very mid-noughties BBC drama: think hustle. Moogs and groove galore. Sexier than I imagined. Really good to strut to too. Goes very well with a tiny lump of hash and your girlfriend. It's a teeny tiny bit passe but really satisfying and complete.

I haven't listened to electronic music, except for that one Enigma CD that every GenX college student had in their dorm room, but I enjoyed it. To call it "background music" is not an insult. It's a vibe.

Lovely chill album

Sparks 🥰

💆‍♀️

Clean modern beats on a breakout genre album from Europe.

just some really solid downtempo. a lot of downtempo doesn't properly nail the vibe(tm), but this one does. props.

Upbeat downtempo

It takes a few listens, but i definitely found the low key vibe and groove taking hold. So Easy and Eple are great starts and it flows very naturally from there. Evey Poor Leno, which is a strange detour works for me after a couple of listens. Definitely interested in hearing more.

Relaxing vibes

Chilled out trip hop, yeah I dig this

Great album! I like the combination of relax music, dance music and film music. Perfect atmosphere on this album!!

Downbeat, makes the mind drift away... My kind of jam. Highlight: She's So

Yeah baby quality stoner sounds.

So chilled. Very background music, but lovely nonetheless.

So chill… och jag menar det….

2 great songs at the start then a pleasant album of its time

This was cool, I want to remember this one. Straight up psychedelic electronic music.

I'm digging this dance record this morning. Yea I dug this.

I know nothing about these guys but enjoyed the album a lot

A few songs on here I've heard but didn't know the name, but either way the whole album is transport you to a far away land where the aliens with silver heads recreate using sheep wool. Another one of those albums is great to listen to whilst waking across the Common and the sun shines across the earth. Poor Leno is a secret banger, I'm saying 3.5

one of those albums where you know all the tunes but had no idea that who made them. Lovely.

Completely new to me, and I enjoyed it more than I expected! Primarily instrumental with a very chill vibe. It made for an excellent soundtrack for a laid back, cool Friday evening on the back porch. I should've had a glass of wine to mellow the vibe even more. A solid 4 stars. It would have been 5 if all the tracks were instrumental. The ones with lyrics took me out of the chill zone a bit. I'm sure I'll be checking out more from them.

Melody A.M. is the debut album by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp. This downtempo/trip hop/house/ambient/techno album performed well commercially around the world, but primarily in Europe where more than half of its sales were. This album was able to showcase the best aspects of electronic dance music from the past three decades before the new millennium. These being the 70's warmth, the 80's bumping beats, and the 90's electronic devices' sounds sampling. All of this was bundled into a cocoon of sonic senses that comforts the listener. I loved this album and will have to check out more from this Norwegian artist. Chilled-out EDM can be some of the most soothing music imo, and Melody A.M. may be one of the best albums for this music.

JNCOs and goggle sunglasses 3.5

The chillest of chill-out music. The perfect vibe for the coming spring.

Catchy, beautiful trip hop. Hate skits in albums. Last song isn't good.

So many genres here, from house ("So Easy"), techno ("Remind Me"), DnB ("In Space"), downtempo ("She's So"), and trip hop ("Sparks"). Can clearly hear Daft Punk in "Poor Leno" and Air in "Eple". These styles are all over the place yet somehow they don't sound completely out-of-place, overall contributing to this chill vibe. First few tracks entice you, the middle segment has the highest energy songs, then the final stretch is a relaxing finish. I quite like it's diversity; they were able to perform all their different styles well.

Kind of enjoyed this one. Good vibes and transitions. EDM remains not a usual choice of listening, but I might give this one a listen for while I’m working.

Slow to warm up for me, made me want to listen to The Understanding album, but track 7 pulled me in completely.

Chill anime beats to study to 15 years early LOL Was so busy today so was nice to have some slick work music to just VIIIIBE TOOOO Feels like a video game platformer soundtrack

If hold music sounded like this I’d call my insurance company every day.

I really enjoyed this album and I will listen to it again. Poor Leno and A Higher Place were my favorites. Would really give it a 3.5 but rounding up.

Pretty sure I've reviewed this album before, still it's a great one and I really liked it both times. Super chill ambient like music. Saved tracks: So Easy, In Space, A Higher Place, She's So

Solid electronic vibes. Would take molly and listen to this again.

- didn’t know what to expect (metal?) but this is chill and a bop - really great work/study background music

Still a great album

Does it remind me of ringtone music? Sure. Do I still like it? yup

每首都各有特色,让人沉浸

Actually nice background, lounge-like electronic music. 3.5/5

fucking hell this was massive and i was a part of the reason it was massive because i listened to it fucking loads.

This is an electronic music album I really like. It has varied, interesting sounds to each track. I love how house meets easy listening in such an effective way. A delight.

Well, I didn't get anything special or noteworthy out of this album. It was likable, but I don't know that I am any better off having listened.

Pleasant, unobtrusive electronica.

8/10. muy gueno nose como nunca habia escuchado de estos wones.

I found this album very hard to rate. I really like it, especially the early tracks. I don't have a huge amount of context for what was happening in electronic music in 2001 to know how groundbreaking this album is, but it's great and I had no awareness of it before now 4/5

I love Royksopp, and I really like this album. That said, I would have chosen some different electronica albums to be on the list over this one (Daft Punk, Discovery, obvs), so that was a bit tough for me. I like this album but I'm just not sure it is groundbreaking enough to be on the list. But, but, I really like this album! Soft, mellow, downbeat electronica with strong 70s influences - in other words, one of my favorite sub-genres! A great album that I love, even if I'm not sure it's one of the 1001 best ever (but of course, there are a lot of albums on the list I find questionable).

Fantastic album

it's been a long time since i listened to this. Certainly from a early nought time and place. Great and easy listen though tbf

Sounds like if Daft Punk and Portishead teamed up to make ambient-inspired music. Listen at night for best effects

Oh hey, it's that song from the Geico commercials! Kinda far out trippy melodic electronic. Pleasant.

Not a fan of electronica, but I kinda dug this. The vocals in some of the songs worked. Not overly obtrusive. It was good background music.

Unique - and ideal for cold winter days and nights.

Great ambience! Has that song from Caveman Geico commercial

Another favourite from my times working in Virgin megastore.

Great album. Used to listen to it all the time, probably haven't listened to it in 10+ years. Still good!

Genietbare sfeermuziek

House. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

Ces demeurés auront vraiment profité d'un moment de faiblesse pendant lequel je digérais mes pâtes aux poivrons pour s'en tirer avec un 4 certainement très cher payé.

- First listen - This is the kind of thing I want from this website, good albums from genres I probably wouldn't listen to - More than nice background music - Fav songs: Remind Me, Eple, Poor Leno

For its time it seemed like a revolutionary, wii menu, nonsensical low fi soft feel good melodies. I enjoyed it, I, living in the future, have heard it’s influences for years now though.

Not usually a fan of chill out type albums but thought that was really good.

Very listenable house music. Good groove

Oh come on. I'm starting to think that nobody at Cro Metrics likes music. If you can't at least vibe to "Eple" or "Royksopp's Night Out" you are terminally uncool

Dang, another cool album, I'd say we're off to a great start this week. I think I've seen or heard this name before, but never their music. I really like it though, it's funky and electronic, but with some more concrete song structure than the usual house/EDM fare. In some ways it feels like a precursor to stuff like UMO, Tame Impala, and/or the Avalanches (though this actually came after that one Avalanches album)--alternative style music with a lot of electronic style and instrumentation. I really dig it, and I hope we get more from Royksopp if it sounds like this! Favorite tracks: So Easy, Eple, 40 Years Come Back. Album art: A really cool cloud shot. Nothing too crazy, but it's nice to look at. 4/5

Enjoyable, relaxing. Some songs too much on the relaxing scale though.

Brilliant dance record 👍🏼

A modern classic

Anyone who enjoys electronic should listen to this album. Any younger person who enjoys the Lofi genre should listen to this album

Excellent advert music 4/5

Loved this 4.5 stars

Erland Oye, the singer on this album is a musical genius. The song Remind Me is a huge earworm from the early 2000s due to Geico caveman commercials and I still love it to this day.

This was great!

Good, chill album with some good beats.

I'd definitely heard of this group before (and I obviously knew the song from the Geico commercial), but I'd never actually listened to any of their stuff. Honestly, it's exactly the kind of downtempo electronic music I need when I'm trying to do something that requires me to have music on, but not be distracted. Will definitely revisit this one later. Standouts: So Easy, Eple, Royksopp's Night Out

The geico cavemen commercial! This album was really fun even without that song

THIS IS WHERE POOR LENO CAME FROM my heart is happy Pretty fun album! Interesting melodies and synth beats, kinda reminds me of Entroducing and early Daft Punk (Homework/Discovery). 4/5 cause it brought me back to SSX3. Miss that game.

Easy listening, lot of grooves and bops, chill and relaxing. Lovely to listen to. Lives up to it's album name!

Cool sounding album.
