Enjoyable tunes with some recognized
This was a really cool and weird album! I almost went with four stars just for the fun change of pace it provided, but I don’t think I’d add most of these tracks to me regular rotation.
Good for writing to!
Lofi before lofi. Easy listening beats that will make you nod your head.
Solid downbeat electronica, the music industry listen to when I don't want to to pay attention to what I am listening too.
The music isn't bad, it's just really not my style...
this really appealed to my thoughtless brain. I’m not sure what makes this album revolutionary or historic, but I’m vibing. I liked sparks. Won’t go out of my way to listen again but it was a pleasure to be introduced to Röyksopp today :)
Inoffensive lobby music.
we hope you enjoyed your stay! please leave us a review on TripAdvisor and come again soon
Pretty good, but nothing to wow 3*
A pretty good album, though it gets a bit slow towards the end. Not sure I would recommend this to others, though the music was inoffensive and enjoyable.
"Melody A.M." is the debut album by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp. A good description of this music is "an across-the-board mix of bleepy synths, crunch beats and ambient, dreamy vocals with even a bit of disco mixed at times." The musical genres include downtempo, trip hop, chill-out, house, ambient and techno. Yep, all there. Röyksopp consists of Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland who met when they were younger. The album received universal acclaim and topped the UK Dance and Independent album charts. There were five singles released with the first being "So Easy." Eerie synths. A dance beat. It samples Bobby Vinton's "Blue on Blue" with a vocal chorus. OK. Good start. "Eple" has more of a groove and is chill. It picks up with synths and a melody. "Sparks" has a slower R&B beat. Female singer Anneli Drecker gives it a soulful feeling. Dreamy and is Portishead-esque. The third single "Poor Leno" is in the chill category. A male singer now with Erlend Øye. This is easy dance. A nice flow. Erlend Øye continues the vocals in "Remind Me " my favorite song on the album. More a dance "club" vibe. 60's keyboards. Nice bass. Catchy chorus repeating "Remind Me, Remind Me, Remind Me." The variety of the songs kept this interesting for me. It reminded me of the Air "Virgin Suicides" soundtrack. That's a good thing. This is a decent album and one if you're into chill-wave and dreamy music, you probably will like.
HL: Eple, In Space, Poor Leno
I liked this album! Warm and summery.
This is just muzak, surely - why is it on the list? I played the whole album back-to-back four times and one track (So easy) has given me an earworm, but I wouldn't ever recognise the rest of the album if I heard it again.
I really don’t like ambient music, so this was pleasantly surprising.
Fine album, not sure why it is on the list.
Easy listening electro hiphop.
Nice background music, and some stand-out tracks. It can all blur together a bit though
Disc d'electrònica d'ambient, l'anomenat downtempo.
Dull light weight electronic, few lyrics
Quite a fun listen, I know nothing when it comes to that style so I'll keep my analysis to myself. Nonetheless I had a good time listening to that album.
I had this back in the day. 3 CDs for £21 at HMV. You felt like you had to own it to be cool. But really you weren't. And now it just feels tired.
yeah this was pretty cool. fun to branch out into other genres that i'm not super well-versed in
Pretty good
Nice little Scandinavian sounds
cool idm. nothing too crazy but a fun listen nonetheless.
Enjoyed listen to it, but not sure I would return to it.
Belfast - Birmingham flight. Just okay, sounded very safe nothing too game changing. Couple of good songs which I’d already heard.
Oh yeah remember when everyone had a right lob on for Eple?
Nicely boopy.
Chill beats for zoning out to.
Middle of the road, pleasant sounding but boring
I really enjoyed the song Sparks. Static LP vocals with soft, urban beats behind. In Space, according to Amazon Music, is the most famous track from the album (the most listened to) but it was one of my least favorite tracks. Melody AM reminds me of Moby's famous album, Play.
Was hoping for a Christmas album, but this was fine. Ended up exploring electronic Christmas music as a result and wasn’t disappointed.
Good electronic sound
Really good chill hop. Definitely will keep this in my rotation for background music
Cool vibes. Why don't you kill me?
Before listening I thought "ugh, not another electronica album". I still haven't figured out what makes one so interesting, innovative, or ground-breaking from the next. Like others before it, it's good background music. But except for the first track, which I kind of dug, the rest truly is just background noise to me - nothing stood out from the rest.
Getting over my initial disappointment that I’ve mixed up Röyksopp with Sigur Rós and I’d been really looking forward to a dose of Hoppípolla. I realise that this album must’ve had an awful lot of AirPlay because I knew almost every track and I’ve never consciously sought out Röyksopp. It’s a loungey loafy kind of vibe. Nice to have on in the background.
I liked it enough that I'm going to give it another listen or two.
Well I remember when Eple and Remind Me were trending back in the day, not my favorite record but I like it, only thing is it is so looooooong
On commence à en avoir assez des hipstereries de Robert, envoie nous l'album de Nirvana bon dieu.
Groovy
had some OK songs but didn't gel for me
Some WII Fit music
This is one of those albums that was on and I didn't even realize it. I just worked away and at some point the album changed to another Röyksopp album and I didn't even know it. It's one of those albums that just is.
3.4 - Sophisticated lounge music for a tastefully furnished hotel bar. Some interesting sonic distortions to tickle the ears.
Had never ventured down the Royksopp rabbit hole. Was a pleasant 2001 era electronica vibe. Decent vibe to get some work done to. Wasn't especially noteworthy for me though.
Bobby Vinton has entered the chat! In the interest of full disclosure, if every song included a Bobby Vinton sample, I'd be compelled to rate this a 5. As it stands, this is as close as we're going to get to having Mr. Vinton on the list, until the Goodfellas soundtrack becomes eligible. Plus it turns out Ol' Bobby is still alive, so perhaps Röyksopp can do right by him and produce one final album and give Mr. Blue a Johnny Cash-Rick Rubin swan song.
Alright
Ei ehkä ihan mulle ominaisinta genreä. Silti omal taval diggasin täst. Hyvää taustamusiikkia mut ei ehkä myöskään optimaalinen kuuntelu ja arviointikokemus kun tekee töitä samalla. Paras biisi: Eple Huonoin biisi: 40 years back \ come
To be honest most of the listening for this album was done in the background but I found it to be very enjoyable electronica, the album contains little vocals which isn’t really my kinda thing and I don’t think that the album gets any better than the really unique opener so easy with all of those awesome textures added on to the track it’s nowhere near perfect and can be fairly uninteresting at places but it’s good background noise! 3/5
Good background music. Interesting
Fun little Norwegian dance album. Not as crazy as the dance album sof today but was enjoyable especially in the morning. Nice wake up music. Week is starting off on a good album but I just hope we get some standouts this week after last week.
Loungiger Eletrosound. Geht gut rein um runter zu kommen!
I'm not big into electronic music but this is pretty nice. Some cool sounds. I especially liked Röyksopp's Night Out - it had a very nice groove. 3 stars.
Decent listen. Do really like Poor Leno but a few of the tracks plod a bit
I remember thinking the beginning was cool, but I also had google maps bitch telling me I was missing turns so the vibe was kinda killed. For how cool and groovy this sounded at points, I’m ultimately kinda forgetting almost everything about the record (expect the Geico ad song)..and I think that’s a bit telling. Still enjoyed nonetheless
Started strong but definitely lost its way.
I remember when this one came out and it was a pretty good time.
Hey look, it's that song the was on everything in the early 00s! I'm also getting a strong whiff of nostalgia from So Easy. Simpler times... Roughly half of this is bleepy bloopy Nordic magic and the other half is just-ok background stuff. Potentially would listen again in future.
I've heard Eple before. So easy is a good opener. That's it to be honest.
Nice but not that memorable
It's a very good album, a couple of the tracks have had so much exposure that their impact has been diluted.
Way ahead of it's time. I think this might have started lofi hip hop. I did listen to this while I went on a walk and some of the horns in songs made me think i was about to get hit by a car. Best Songs: She's So, Poor Leno Worst Songs: Remind Me
-"Poor Leo" is kinda catchy -"Röyksoop's Night Out" is cool -Just barely interesting enough to get a 3. But overall kind of repetitive electonic music
Wanted to not like this album, but I didn't hate it. Good background sounds while I worked.
A few engaging and immersive tracks but just too synthetic and disco-y to attain anything like timelessness. Editor review seems appropriately unsure on the same point, which makes this record, as enjoyable as it is, an obvious candidate for being dropped.
Decent!
Not my cup of tea, but I recognized a handful of tracks I've heard over the years. Didn't realize they were all by Royskopp.
3/10, 30%
Really quite enjoyed this. I recognised about three of the tracks. A solid 3*
Algunas canciones superaron mis espectativas. Otras me aburrieron bastante.
Not what I expected
Ehhh it's fine. But sometimes I find with electronic music is that it ages poorly. Plus I listen to a lot of house and hear way better things all the time so I'm always quite negative to these types of albums.
Was not bad. I can't imagine the 'best' time to listen to though. Neither lends itself to morning pump up or nighttime wind down.
“Remind Me” and “So Easy” are nice. Rest is okay.
Interesting as a chill-out record, but nothing special as a trip hop record.
- Kinda surreal - Lo-fi electronic beats - A lot of variety, kept you on edge slightly - Not fully my cup of tea
Sounds great but didn't really capture my interest.
first listen very forgettable
This was good music to work to, but does that make it a great, must listen-to-before-you-die, record? I'll admit, I don't know what sets a noteworthy trance/ambient-pop album apart from schlock, but I sometimes felt like this record was scratched. I'd be waiting for a song to progress to the next part and it felt like it just stayed in place. It might be the best album ever for its genre, but that's lost on me.
Very chill, to the point where not much is actually going on to make this interesting.
My ear for this type of music is untrained. As a result I can’t tell if I am listening to a masterpiece or elevator music. I think it’s more towards the masterpiece side.
Interesting listen with diverse sonics unfolding every which way.
Classic electronic beeps and boops
Meh
Not something I would normally listen to, but you put it on in the background and it just blows by...
This was surprisingly great to drive around at night to.
I have some personal biases against Electronic music, I can enjoy it greatly but I just prefer to know something was played live with instruments rather than assembled and hit play. But old man opinions aside, this is a nice ambient lo-fi album. Nothing too exciting, I recognized Remind Me because it was played in a commercial that I can't remember, otherwise just some simple beats to put on in the background while you do some mindless repetitive work or studying.
Some unique dance music but that’s all it has going for it
It has great chill vibes but overall not that memorable. Was good to hear Eple again though.
This would be excellent listening in an up market bar or the sort of party where people want to chat and sip a nice red. Ambient but not in a bad way
I would have given it 4 stars but have simply heard it too many times to enjoy it now. Obvs a classic though.
Electrónica. Chill out.
Música agradable aunque muy compleja en sus arreglos. Electrónico que no cansa y no se oye repetitivo. 3 bien ganado.
är ju inge vidare fan av techno
ok
Good music for listening while working https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B6yksopp
There's nothing wrong with this, and in fact, parts of it are quite enjoyable. It's also just a collection of tracks specifically engineered to be licensed for cell phone and insurance ads. Best track: the one from the Geico ad
Nice production but it’s pretty ambient. 6/10
The first two tracks established a lovely, trippy, lounge feel, but the remainder faded into obscurity for me. I’ll give it an upvote of a star as they did ‘Alpha Male’ a few years ago, and that track KICKS.
Some cool lofi type hip hop type of music. I dig it. This came out in 2001- was this some early inspiration to the lofi hip hop beat youtube genre? I dig it. There should probably be a lofi hip hop sort of album on this list and this one is pretty dynamic. It has some upbeat tracks (Poor Leno), some vocals (Remind Me), some that sound like videogame music (In Space), and overall it was a nice listen!
Ahhh damn it. Another repeat. Can't remember if I gave it a three or a four... It got a three. Don't actually mind this today - new The Smile (Radiohead) and Kendrick albums to be getting on with! Here's a copy-paste of what I said; A brilliant opening 1-2, both of which take me back to the 'chillout' trend of the early noughties, as the whole album does. It drops off significantly after that - not bad (with the exception of Poor Leno, which sounded dumb at the time, and now sounds dated and dumb) but not GOAT standard by any stretch. Nice enough, and with a clear love of Philly Soul and such.
Began strongly with the first two songs, it feels unfair to say it went downhill from this point as the rest of the album isn't bad - but peaking this early meant the remaining songs felt jarringly average. It's good at what it does. Certainly atmospheric, and definitely of it's time. 3/5 is maybe harsh, but there's a lot of albums on this list.
Decent background music, but not super engaging or memorable. They were everywhere for a while, back in the day, but that is not always a mark of quality! Enjoyable enough, but that doesn't translate into a very high score. They get another star for being Norwegian though!
Interessante, un suono elettronico, ma rilassato. Un buon sottofondo, ma non ci sono canzoni particolari che mi colpiscono. Tra il 3 e il 4
I often complain about Burt Baccarat songs but the first song will be an exception. I guess I just don't dig the songs that are played the way he intended them to be played. The album has its highlights but lacks consistency. Both times I played it I really like the songs that the Spotify algo played after this album finished. This album is really good for segue purposes but that's a backhanded compliment rather than a reason for +1.
pretty chill
3.75
Yes
More of a 2.5 than a 3, but rounding it up because there were no actually very bad parts. I can't say there were any really great parts either though. This is just a nice-ish, mellow, ambient background electronic album. No more and no less.
A pleasant surprise.
Just when I thought I had never heard anything by this group BAM! Geico caveman commercial song.
Thought this would be one full of stuff I'd never heard and then track 1 started and had the 'ohhhh that's where this song comes from' moment. A very 'nice' album, good ambience and struck a chord with my tonally for when I was listening. The tracks with lyrics definitely not as good as those without
This is some pretty chill mood music, though one step up from background music. Very listenable.
This isn't really my thing, it's kinda just muzak really, but I do have to give it a couple of points for being incredibly well crafted. It's slick as fuck... just boringly so. 3/5.
Was chill.
This one puzzles me. On the one hand...it's nice. Nice. On the other.... I'm not sure I'd ever want to actively listen to this...? It's great background music. Is that worthy of a top-1001? It's all subjective of course but I can't ever see myself having enough interest in something that's manufactured like this (not necessarily a critique) to voluntarily think "I need this album and nothing else for the next 45 minutes." Atmospheric, uber-mellow, again: it's nice and truthfully after a few songs I was really liking it but afterwards it suffers a ton from just being itself. Repeated loops and beats that have a nice melody and effect still just don't hold up over and over. I have a hard time rating it and will give it a nice 3; would listen again, wouldn't necessarily remember anything from it other than the mood. Maybe that's the point... 5/10 3 stars.
3,5
This is such a fine exemple of trip-hop and chill-out electronic music, and it leaves no doubt that Röyksopp is one of the major artists in those genre. The experimentations make this album unique, but it also feels that there are so much space for then to grow (and they did). "Eple" is so catchy and stays in your head for days.
Nice album tho I would only really listen to it as background music while cleaning or driving.
It’s all right. Good background music
Like Remind me on this but not one for my collection.
Cool sounds.
Good music
Candidate for lo fi hip hop radio-beats to study/relax to Not gonna say I didn’t enjoy it tho
The album as a whole is a mixed bag: the band's arranging talent is interesting, the compositional art rather superficial. Nevertheless, the album is very easy to listen to and enjoyable. (6/10) FT: Poor Leno, So Easy
Never heard of this band or album but enjoyed listening to it in the background while I worked.
Mwah… muziek voor in de C&A…
Está finísimo, pero llega un momento en que suena a ensayos del in rainbows de radiohead.
Interesting
This sounded very of-an-era I would say! Early 2000s chill out electro stuff, quite smooth and not too in your face. Its not really what I'm into but I enjoyed it.
Pleasant enough, but I should listen again when I’m not Christmas shopping
Electroniphy? Symphonica? Either way, just slightly above average for me. Good to hear, but not going back
LOL - the electonic beep boop music that was overused in so many advertisements of the era. Good for these guys for gettin' paid!
Played this for the first time in 15 years, and it’s still exactly how I remember it. Brilliant first half, second half that runs out of steam and limps to the finish line. Having said that, this album is still worth it for ‘So Easy’ and ‘Sparks’ which are the two best things on it, and also happen to be timeless.
I remembered this album from back in the day. Was good to revisit and seemed to age reasonably well. Might give it a listen here and there for focused work.
Solid but not nearly as good as their later stuff.
A couple of trippy bangers in there which would get a 7/10, but not enough in the rest of the material to lift it to a 4/5.
Mellow and hypnotic. Found myself relaxing into the music the more the album played 3.5 🌟
Would give it 3.5? Some were good. Strange electronic vibes and good song radio
Happy .... and stuff
Strong beats and catchy melodies, but it lost my attention half way through when it started to get a bit flat and boring in parts. It’s pretty much music to put on at dinner parties whilst everyone sits around doing drugs. 3/5 - liked it, but probably won’t listen again
This was HUGE when it was first released. It’s still a pleasant listen although most tracks have been played to death, used by marketing firms to soundtrack visions of cool etc Enjoyable. Top tracks: Poor Leno, A Higher Place
The tracks that weren’t hits back in the day were surprisingly meh.
Varsin lepposa tunnelma läpi levyn. Ei mitään korvamatoja mutta ei myöskään savea.
6,5/10 Legal
Melody AM is a look into the world of chilled out house music. Lovely to listen to whilst relaxing on an afternoon, a perfect addition to a background music playlist also. Best: So Easy Worst: Poor Leno 3.5 Stars
Very chill, great if you're in the right mood for it.
It is all electronic sound. I am not sure I needed to hear this album. It was just alright.
3 stars. Great music to have on in the background, but I can’t actively listen to it
A brilliant opening 1-2, both of which take me back to the 'chillout' trend of the early noughties, as the whole album does. It drops off significantly after that - not bad (with the exception of Poor Leno, which sounded dumb at the time, and now sounds dated and dumb) but not GOAT standard by any stretch. Nice enough, and with a clear love of Philly Soul and such.
Electro, c’est special mais smooth et ca s’ecoute bien en travaillant. 3.5
nice vibe
AVR. 6.8 TOP 3: 1. Sparks (+8) 2. Poor Leno (+7.7) 3. She's So (+7.5) TRACKLIST 1. So Easy (+6.5) 2. Eple (+6) 3. Sparks (+8) 4. In Space (+5.8) 5. Poor Leno (+7.7) 6. A Higher Place (+6.4) 7. Röyksopp's Night Out (+7.4) 8. Remind Me (+7.2) 9. She's So (+7.5) 10. 40 Years Back/Come (+5.9)
This is okay. Just not really my style of musice
Buona musica da sottofondo, molto particolare
Sonically sounds like an upbeat Kid A
Good vibes for WFH
Kende het niet maar wqs wel tof, ga ik nog eens luisteren
3 Met momentel heel raar, met andere momentel complete vibe
Lofi hiphop? 2.5/5 Daftpunk?
Boring
Good background music with some solid standouts
cool mellow vibes. wouldn't relisten right away though.
An enjoyable album that flows nicely between early 2000s house and chill out. The big singles off the album haven’t aged particularly well as I find them somewhat irritating, but there is so much more to this album that that.
Some amazing tracks but not as strong over all as I remember it. Did make me want to re-visit their back catalogue though.
Some lovely stuff dotted through it - dinner party dance music though
Good, some stuff I recognize, aside from the main song.
Very early nouties. Basically fine but not particularly interesting.
A moody, poky sampler- knew a few songs and enjoyed ‘Remind Me’ the most.
Solid early 2000s electronic music!
Not bad
I really liked this, going into the regular rotation
More or less just ambience music
Eple lowkey a banger though
blip boop its roykslop
No se ni que decir, es como ross tocando el teclado en friends (Poor Leno si que me gusto igual) 4/10
Going up? 3rd floor....housewares, lingerie, sleepwear....
Not my personal fav
It is background music. Once again not sure why this album is on the list.
Background background background
another middle of the road, background music that I will forget tomorrow.....
Not bad as background music but not my cup of tea
A little bit of it was OK but as a whole album it was boring.
2.5
Some good moments, but not a fan of the vocals
So, so boring.
This album has aged badly.
Nah
4/10
Neither a 1 nor a 4, a little boring though
Nope ... nothing new here.
Not my fav. But not bad. Good background trance electronica
1 2트랙 별로임
I've heard of this artist, though I don't know that I'm familiar with them at all. So, I'm mostly going into this album blind. The track "Remind Me" is vaguely familiar, apparently it's been used in a few different advertisements, so that's probably it. It's not bad, but I just don't find it compelling. I've got a good ear, but I just don't get what makes this special enough that I must listen to it before I die. Why this album over other ones? A lot of the tracks blur together, too. It frequently feels like background music -- like something to be played in a waiting room or as hold music.
Not a fan of this kind of music. At all. Just repetitive beep boop shit all the time man.. Whats with the weird tin can noise on "Poor Leno" ? Lars, who invited you ? There are others weird sound choices on this album but this one was really funny (In a "wtf are you doing" kind of way). Well that was a painfull 47 minutes. Its just so not for me. Its objectively not a 1.5/5 tho.
Não desgostei do álbum, mas também não gostei muito. Rapidamente se tornou som ambiente e caiu no completo esquecimento. Não é ao todo ruim, serve uma função, é legalzinho e atmosférico, mas não mudou minha vida de forma alguma. 2.5
After listening to this album I can say that I listened to this album.
Röyksopp? More like Röykslopp. What do I say about 45 minutes of electronic elevator music?
This is the most generic sounding album I've ever heard. This is 100% the music they play in the concourse of a shopping mall. There's not really anything wrong with it but it's just not interesting at all. I can't remember even listening to this and I just finished it 5 minutes ago. 1.5/5
Another boring electronic album.
Too boring to care about. 2 stars or D-.
Nothing bad to really say about this, but it does just kinda exist. I guess the album title kinda describes it as such though, so I guess it met the mark?
It is fine as electronic background music, but not really my thing.
It was fine I didn’t listen to the whole thing tho
It’s okay. Softer and gentler than I remember and that’s a shame. Some nice singles on this but much of it is kinda forgettable in terms of melodies. Nice production and I’m sure many people would really enjoy this.
better than I thought
Too bad, it got interesting near the end, but it took a very long time to get there.
Boring and repetitive. Unpleasant outweighs the few pleasant parts.
Meh
Nice background-music. favourite: "So Easy" 2,5
not awful but terribly uninteresting. the highlight was the song from the old geico commercial (obligatory mention)
2 out of 5. Like others have said it works as background music.
It’s fine for work but nothing stood out. Possibly would have been better listened to while wearing headphones. I did enjoy Royksopp’s Night Out and Remind me. End of album worked more for me.
Electronic slop
Inoffensive background music. Not sure who this genre actually appeals to.
Just fine.
I listened to this while packing for a trip, and I can barely remember what this album sounded like. Then I went to listen to it again, and remembered that I strongly disliked this album and decided not to listen to it a second time. Too many boops and not enough beeps.
I like some of their other music more. This first album is uh very experimental.
Creepy ish but not the worse
Looking forward to reacquainting myself with this album, been a few years. So Easy is instantly recognisable from a zillion chill out compilations and is probably the best track on the album along with Eple - which is a shame as they’re the opening two tracks. As much as I really wanted to like this album I found it overall quite boring, which was a shame.
I've heard a few of these tracks on Spotify playlists, fits into a "chill electronica" kind of vibe...sounds a little bit generic to my ears, a tier or two above muzak, but not something I'd consciously LISTEN to. Safe production, safe mixing, just...safe.
Easy-listening background music with very little depth. It's the musical equivalent of an Ikea piece of furniture - simple, efficient and reasonably fashionable, but certainly not high-quality or lasting in any way. Even the band's name sounds like a new model of Ikea coffee table. I usually enjoy electronic music, but downtempo is not really my thing. I'll admit that this album creates a pleasant atmosphere, but it also feels too simplistic in terms of structures and sampling. "Eple" is catchy but rather basic ; "Royksopps Night Out" is the only track that sounds a bit more complex, with a few interesting loops and a noticeably darker tone. The other songs feel completely interchangeable, and were quickly forgotten after being heard. I didn't hate it, and Röyksopp were probably pioneers in their own fashion, but the album mostly left me indifferent. There would have been a million better picks for this list in the electronica genre. 4/10
recognize pretty much all the singles here, and honestly, I don’t have a jaded memory of them. A few tracks even flirt with a light trip-hop vibe, which is actually quite nice. Still, this kind of music is never going to feel truly essential to me, apart from a handful of exceptions. That said, I can imagine it finding its way back one day, maybe…
kinda calming but id need to be in a very specific mood to want to listen to this
Just an album of lo fi stuff.
This is #day503 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… surprisingly, "Eple" rang a bell from my childhood radio and electronic-music infatuation days. Melody A.M. is very much music of its time: downtempo, house, a touch of trip-hop... a little too generic for my taste, though. In this regard, I prefer Moby. "She's So" is a nice Twin Peaks-esque gem. Otherwise, this is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day504.
I remember Remind Me trending for a second in the early oughts. It had a cool dejected electro dance sound that I liked. It was kinda tedious but that was part of the sound. The album is filled with that stuff, just it’s not as catchy and much more tedious. Yawn. Two stars. No need to listen to this you can die in peace.
Interesting instruments, at first I was liking it, but it got tedious and almost like creepy background music.
I liked Royksopps night out
chill vibes, not their greatest album but certainly paved the way to better ones
If you aren't a fan of electronic music, this isn't going to change anything for you. I am not a fan of electronic music.
Not really my speed
Cool as back ground music..not something I’d listen to again
Instrumental music only good for background noise
I’ve heard some good remixes of Royksopp. I think they have a good solid base for that kind of thing but on their own it’s a bit dull.
Not the worst thing I’ve ever listened to, but nothing I care to revisit either.
I expect this kind of music to be somewhat hypnotizing. I just found boredom in active listening. There may be some EDM boundaries crossed by this record that I'm not aware of so I'm giving it an ignorance star + one because I didn't really like it.
OK. 2/5
Electronuc, nothing attention grabbing
This was really on the line for me. I actively disliked most of the album, which is not something that comes up often on this project. I don’t know which is worse, (subjectively) bad music or mediocre music? I’ve encountered more of the latter on this project. Maybe I would’ve enjoyed it more if I were it was 2001 and I was rolling on E in a club at 2am, but alas I am judging it as an album in 2025. There were sections that I did genuinely like, however. Especially longer instrumental tracks that were a little out there, like “Röyksopp’s Night Out.” I enjoyed a bit of dancey experimentation and heard directions where this record could actually be more appealing. So this rating managed to achieve the staggering heights of 2 stars.
2.4 Fascinating, that's given me an ever greater appreciation of Boards of Canada. I wondered why there weren't any other bands that sound like them, and it's because, it turns out, when you try, you sound pretty shit. The album closer could have been lifted straight off a lost EP of tracks BoC discarded for not carrying the soul of them, for being unfinished and generally shit. Even the opening two, that I remember hearing at the time, are massively disappointing. Very interesting, glad I heard it.
Just background noise, electronic music not much to care about. 6.75/10 2/5
Ok. ★★
Some ok beeps and boops
Another fine electronic album but not a whole lot going on. Had previously only heard "Happy Up Here" by Röyksopp so I'm glad to listen to some other work but don't feel a need to revisit again in a full album format. 4.5/10 (2.25/5)
Eple is an amazing song 24 years on. However the rest of this is a mixed bag of plinky plink gibberish. Good to use as a coaster for drinks.
I can't really say I'm a fan of this album. It's fine for some background noise. It's got a chill, easy personality, but there's just nothing noteworthy to latch onto. It's a collage of sounds and beats, soullessly compiled into an album without ever generating any interesting texture. I guess the best thing about it is there's nothing to dislike either. It's like soft-serve vanilla ice cream. Nothing really to like or dislike about it. It just is.
merely mind numbing rather than aggravating. wow!
Described as Leftfield, Trip Hop, House, Downtempo. Some pan it as hold music. I think it's upscale MUSAK with lotsa drugs. Not for me.
Like nearly all the Electronica on the list , this did not do it for me.
Not bad but not my speed either
Some ok stuff. Not anything fun enough to come back to. 2.5 down.
When I embark on my large scale ranking projects (e.g., top 100 Beatles songs), I used to make a point of emphasis to include a relatively even distribution of songs from different albums until I realized that not all albums are created equal. I fear that the makers of this list felt like they had to include some lo-fi electronic albums on this list. They didn’t
POV you walked into a CSI knockoff produced in 2006 that's headed to a nice little syndicated run on A&E for your dad to watch on Sunday mornings
This is basically a softer Boards of Canada. It's nice to fall asleep to or mellow out with after tripping balls, but I don't know if it merits much air time beyond that.
It wasn’t as bad as I thought, but I still didn’t really vibe with it.
not really my cup of tea to be honest
2+ Stars (6/15)
Meh
I am growing weary, as this is my third electronica album in the last five. One of the things I’ve discovered that I didn’t know about my music tastes is that I genuinely dislike electronica/techno. I’m sure it’s technically brilliant and all that, but it’s just not a pleasant listen for me with all the beeps and boops; it just all sounds too fake to me. It was better than yesterday’s abomination of a film score, but a low 2/5 is the best I can do. Please give me something with real instruments tomorrow.
Thought I would like it more. Sorta disappointed. Just didn’t grab me
The music is repetitive.
Groupe inconnu. Musique de fond plutôt agréable, mais sans plus. Le morceau 'In Space' sort un peu du lot, mais ce n'est pas assez pour avoir envie d'écouter l'album une seconde fois. =>2/5
Very undeserving of its album title. 2/5
pretty ordinary
It’s…fine. Remind Me still (gently) slaps, but the rest feels like adequate chilltronica. Better than a lot of the dreck from the time, but there’s not much that stands out now.
This is electronica I don’t have much use for. Meandering and not inspiring for me.
If I wanted instrumental music I’d listen to Bach or Beethoven or Zimmer, not this. Come on. Seriously?
This didn’t just struggle - it didn’t make any impression at all. This album means there needs to be an option to complete without rating. How can you rate such aimless background sound?
I struggle to understand who listens to this stuff. It's not offensively awful, just boring.
Increasingly beginning to think that the electronica on this list was selected by someone who doesn't know much about electronica so just picked the most obvious albums that sold rather than the ones that defined and influenced the genre. I bought this album first time around and my general reaction was meh and its still meh now. The two lead singles - So Easy and Eple are easy going and catchy - but the rest is pretty forgettable and lacking any real moments that grab you.
Seeing that I bought this album twice you’d think I would like it but I don’t. Can’t remember why I bought it the first time round but it was a CD I foolishly sold to Music Magpie along with most of my collection when streaming came along. This actual album was no great loss unlike the vast remainder but that’s a story for another day. Second time around it was bought at a charity shop and made up a third choice to get 3 for a pound. Downloaded it to hard drive and then forgot about until today. This says it all really and my attitude towards it. 2/5 24/7/25
Got nervous when I saw "dance" but it's not nearly as bad as I expected. I thought it was going to be some overstimulating shit, but it's chill. I would call it soundscapes moreso than dance. Not my thing at all. This topped charts. What do people use this kind of music for?
Nooooot a huge fan of this. It was fine I guess, but as far as an electronic album goes I’m surprised that this made the list.
Just ok.
Could see myself falling asleep to this on a loop
Melody A.M. is tolerable when it's permeated by hip-hop vigor rather than narcotics. 'Eple,' boasting a piano loop that approximates Premier's 'Mass Appeal,' and 'Röyksopp's Night Out,' featuring some tasteful scratching and funky guitar loops, are passable, while the rest is either slippery languor or tacky buoyancy. Atmosphere is the downfall of could-be-great bands like Portishead, but Röyksopp isn't just reliant on mood, they try to make up for it w/ vocal performances that are mawkish and uninteresting, e.g., 'Remind Me.' By the end, I'm irritatingly relaxed b/c I'm exasperatingly indifferent to the sounds I'm hearing: I find myself not even caring to say who cares. Don't say no to drugs, kids, but say no to this lousy ambiance.
Oh I dunno. Sort of laid back trip-hop-ish but more upbeat in many ways. Just doesn’t do it for me.
Kinda boraing electro-dance that isn't really upbeat enough to dance to. Some interesting beats and sounds nothing here to sustain an entire album 2 stars
Not my favorite, didn’t grab me at all.
While certainly funky with a plethora of effects, the overall album gave the vibe of an underwater dance album. Possibly a good listen if you are high or partying at Sandy's but personally this was not an album that I would in any case want to listen again as it took three days of starts and stops to get through it. As such it will receive a 2/5.
Wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Just ok.
Nothing about this made me think I need to hear it before I die, although I will have “Remind Me” stuck in my head for the next week. Not a terrible album, but not great either. Just sort of… there. A few parts of songs that caught my attention in a good way, but largely the songs felt long and boring with nothing really standing out.
Didn't age gracefully
Standout Songs: So Easy In Space Remind Me I’m not big on electronic music. Really hoping I don’t get any more albums like this, already the second one within a few days. This one was tolerable but still not good. Just not my style.
Hubiera querido vivir en Noruega por lo menos una semana, quizá comprendería un poco algo más que no sé
Esch jetzt I minere Meinig halt work nüd speziells. Ech has rächt langwiilig gfonde ond ohni gross tüüfi. Zomdem esches halt ned so mini Musig (was au de Grond chönnt si, wieso echs ned so verstoh). Es esch aber losbar, drom was öppe s einzige positive esch.
Not bad vibing music, but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to. I debated between 2 and 3* for this one, because it was actually pretty good for what it was, but as I doubt I'll ever listen to it again I'm going to go with 2*.
This album gave off "Please hold while we connect you to a representative" vibes.
Similar to yesterday, the whole electronic sound is just so boring. I found nothing to truly latch onto and enjoy and instead felt that I was just waiting for it to end the whole time
